The

World

The

Glee out your books from a ship

Well, this song is inspired by good man and it's true

Doing good for the sick amazing grace to you. Yeah, it doesn't mean it's 25

Twenty twenty four

If it's seven o'clock on Saturday morning

It's time for this week and walk a shot. Give it up

I'm your host Don Brown coming to you live in local from the office of former alderman Don Paul Brown here in the W.A.

UK studios in downtown right around the corner from the Adora Yomans Park where we are proud to honor our suffragette heritage here in this

Shaw I am joined by the mighty max martinson my awesome producer getting ready to one of the great

career opportunities for him will be

Broadcasting the circus parade in his hometown of baribu. Is that right in a couple weeks max?

Yep two weeks away from today. So jumping at the bit. I've had missing some headphones this morning

I'm not really sure where they were here, but we'll get we'll get those eventually sounds great sounds great

Really glad you're here. We have a very packed agenda on this

It is Memorial Day weekend, of course, and

So much to be grateful for and to observe and to reflect upon

We're going to talk about the events. Yes, there is not a parade, but there is still a pretty full schedule of activities that day that

I think merit observation and can really be part of a special weekend as well as things I think that could be going on

You know today tomorrow

Again to to take a moment of pause and to remember with gratitude those who made the ultimate sacrifice

Um in defense of our freedoms and in service to our country and um in particular

I'm going to call out the the 14th sons of wakasha who we lost in in the Vietnam war

I had the honor when I was still in the city council

To volunteer

for the um when the city when parks and rec hosted the

Vietnam veterans moving

The Memorial wall that you see in Washington. There's a moving one that that travels from city to city and in

Those wakasha's turn a few years ago and we had it at frame park and uh

In the each day starting with the first day. We honored the different sons and daughters killed

In Vietnam from the different cities the first night was wakasha and unfortunately

It was just a terrible rain and it so I just

While still very special. It was just a drenching rain and um so and this beautiful sunny day. I'd like to again

kind of drop their memories and um

And we're taking your calls to on the civic media app

I've been told it works a while now. We've done some good testing on it

So if you haven't already if you're listening to this on the radio or from the website download the civic media app

and you can choose our station

and um

As well as 20 other stations and I'm going to tell you a little about WRJ and this kind of music parade

They have going on that I just I just love but um anyway

I have two uh wonderful guests here

uh returning to us

A second tour of duty my good friend Tyler Pudliner

Who's now associated with bobble heads bring us together and he'll be exhibiting his project at Friday night live

Which opens up is that next Friday Tyler already? It's the seventh. Yep. This oh wait June 7th. Yes. Oh, so it's a couple Fridays

Yeah, okay. I stand corrected. I thought it was opening next week

So well gee that gives us a little more time to get ready for Friday night live and then

I also have uh Jessica

Says says nasky. Did I say that correct? Yeah, it's close enough. All right, so you know

I'm from like where I was born and raised as one of the largest Polish communities in America

So I'm actually pretty good with a lot of the

Surning pronunciations as well as many of the traditions and that Jessica is a professional musician

who'll be talking about

Music in the shot and you've performed a Friday night live before right? Yes

I have maybe give us a little little a little review of a music going on

this year and then

The farmers market open at the beginning of the month, but for us at WAUK. It's week two and Chris Moro are

Our executive vice president of sales and the station manager will be

Manning will be leading the farmers market effortate. So who'll be calling in and I know we had some trouble

It's Collins last week. They're so busy, but Chris is gonna make time for us at the beginning of the second hour

So he's gonna give us a little update

I imagine this morning weekend

We're gonna have some people traveling people out of town

So it could be if you're if you're here in town an optimal time to check out the farmers market again with this beautiful day and then

City news and sports and so much more so

Tyler welcome back. Yeah, thank you. So yes, and

Tyler as many of you know was one of the members of the Walker Shaw South marching band

Who was seriously injured in the the Christmas parade attack

Couple years ago, and I imagine you still a lot of people that ask you about that, but

You have you've taken in a very tragic situation. Not only were we're grateful you survived

But you've also it gave you inspiration to start a philanthropy if you will a project

Tell us about Bobbleheads

So after the parade I had some duplicate Bobbleheads in my personal collection. I grown up collecting them for years brewers and stuff like that

and

I had about 18 to 20 duplicates and I had reached out to other victims of the parade attack to give them Bobbleheads to cheer up some of the younger victims

And we were honored to give to the team of Tucker Sparks Jackson's older brother nice, and that's kind of what started it

Wow, then it took off and

We know

Have the official nonprofit status for Bobbleheads bring us together project

And it's all about sharing a smile. That's our mission is to gift to kids who go through traumatic situations and have suffered traumatic injuries

That's wonderful. And so that's a that's a 501c3 now. Is that correct? Yep. Congratulations. That's awesome

You're what 19 20 years old 19. Yeah. Yeah, and now already you've got your own your own nonprofit

Congratulations

And so what will you be doing specifically a Friday night live?

So basically we're looking to raise funds to

Better our mission and fulfill our mission of sharing a smile. We're gonna be doing that by selling some merch

And stuff like that. We have Babenko, which is Plenko basically have had the Bobblehead version where you can win Bobbleheads

Okay, and then our big gig is we're bringing in some former athletes Badgers Brewers ad rules

Maybe some Packers too to do some autograph signings to raise funds for us to be able to fulfill our mission as well

That's terrific. Is there anybody already committed with certain dates that people can can jot down?

Yeah, so I'll run through them. We got on June 14th Danny LaCours the Milwaukee ad rules legend

He holds many records June 21st Travis Beckham former Wisconsin Badger tight end and Super Bowl 46 champion with the New York Giants

Aaron Sims on June 28th. He's the ad rules announcer legendary guy that way. All right

July 19th vineyard Tino who was a recene native and recene county Hall of Famer

and

Brewer announcer as well

July 26th Danny Cobb 2004 nationally all-star and former pitcher for the Brewers nice

August 16th Frankie DeFelco who was a former AWA NWA and WWF wrestler

He also owns Brewster Dressling here in town. Good friend. He's been on the show. Yeah, as he had

I'm glad you mentioned Frankie because he was gonna come on last week to promote they had an event over at the Alcs Lodge last sat

Yeah, and unfortunately he couldn't make it anybody see supposed to be stopping in

In the next couple of weeks to promote some upcoming events

So one of our civic media team members Rich LaCasio out of racing. Yeah, it's good pals with Frankie says he knows you

Yeah, Rich has been trying to coordinate that with me and Rich obviously is a very

Passionate about wrestling. Yeah, so I think does he also do the PA or does he do the guy? You know the

Great at that and then as well we do have on August 30th that'll be the last Friday night live

We have Brewers legend Larry Heisel and his son Larry Heisel Jr

So they're co-founders of Heiselwood a bat-making company that they have started and

There is a two-time World Series champion as a hitting coach for the blue jays very cool

We got some big names Larry coaches some youth teams around here too. Doesn't he? Yeah, he does a lot of youth work too

So that'll be a good connection to have one of my pals Johnny gagging the former student. He still calls me Professor Brown

From my Kendall college days in Chicago

I think his son did some training under him and his son and Griffins that way with this son's name, but he

He every time he's at the plate. I whenever I get to see him he goes yard

If it's just yeah, so just really uh and and Emmer John mentioned that I like Larry was one of his mentors

So now the bat company is that wooden bats are yeah, okay good. I'm a wooden bat purist

So I'd like to see a wooden bat league come back maybe at the youth levels at some

point so

but

We think of Friday night live and there's all sorts of attractions and and I think having Bobbleheads bring us together is a really nice

Accent or enhancement to the concept. Yeah, but there's always been music

And then the here is my guess a fellow walk a shot transplant, but from Virginia Jessica

Let's try to say again. Cisnowski. Yeah, that's perfect

Cisnowski. Okay. I think I spelled it differently on my little card here. So I'm glad that I had a moment of pause and so

Tell us what you do Jessica. I play piano. I sing and that's pretty much my life

I primarily teach part-time at both outpost music downtown here and White House the music and Walker Shaw

fantastic, but I also

Play for a lot of weddings special events. I play for the farmer's market actually primarily Friday night live

I've played for two years in a row

I think I was actually pre-COVID though. Okay, and since then I think

Correct me if I'm wrong if anyone knows, but um, they've changed who's in charge of putting the music together

Okay, I haven't been getting back in the lineup for that, but um, it's really awesome plates for some coffee shops. I've played for um

Local hero Greg Weinstein. It was birthday party twice actually

And we come to carol. Let me prep to call from Gibblegee. Yeah, triple G

So be expected. I maybe get a call from Greg and then I think the strangest gig that I have ongoing is I play at

Minards in Walker Shaw. Oh, that's a piano upstairs and I play that once or twice

That they sell grand pianos at minards. No, okay. They just have what it's uh. Yes, but it's great

I think that's a neat sales concept because it's something that

It's when you have soothing background music while you're shopping or even like working

Because I used to manage a steakhouse at live jazz, but even jazz in the can was extremely soothing while you're working. So that's a really nice little

um

Plug I think that they do and that you're part of have told me that

They've stayed longer like they'll literally come up to me and one gentleman. I remember number number months ago

He said I just

I don't think he said wasted, but he was kind of given the vibe 45 minutes in here because I couldn't leave

Like the walking escalator. Yeah, yeah, do they let you

To have a tip jar on the piano too or no, there's a little um or they just pay you well enough that

Little controversial subject we can steer on from that. But yeah, they do pay me. So oh, I mentioned

They would yeah, so actually going up and down the little escalator thing um some parents legit will just bring their kids there

And just like it's an amusement park and have their kids go up and it's the cheapest way to have fun

So you know, it could be really cool here

If Minards were to let you have a tip jar and the proceeds went to bobble heads

Bring us together project that we'll talk about in there, you know cross promotion and affiliate marketing if you will for a fantastic cause

I just want to mention too dumb

That we are selling pre-sealed tickets for the Friday night live autograph signings. Oh cool

You can go to bobble heads together dot com slash shop

Okay, and you can buy your five dollar off pre-sealed tickets for all the signings

Sounds great. We're going to talk some more

With Tyler Pudliner of bobble heads bring us together and Jessica says nasky local musician

And then my guest next week keep in mind it's

Election time. So I'll have state

Assembly candidates Kevin Riley and the young Samuel DeMico as well as state senate candidate

Megan Latch and

The drop-off center is open today for mate to four

I know a lot of people like to do the spring cleaning. I'm a moiledy weekend

So keep that in mind the drop-off center is open today for mate to four

As this week and watch that continues on w a uk five forty a m one one point one of them

The Shaw and don't forget the civic media. Talk about it

See now you guys

And

Is waiting for the

My heart is calling you

That was my turn now

Hey, this is sweet and lockish uh

If you're listening to Waksha's favorite son Les Paul with the wife Mary Ford

Our Saturday morning traditions song to and it's working

The world does not have to wait for the son to rise and walk shot because it's here and it's a beautiful Saturday

especially after the uh

The what should we say the monsoons or there's the the the real uh violent storms

We've had this week in Tuesday. There were 40,000 homes in Waksha County without power

And um, we are one of them uh that did not we didn't lose our power Tuesday

But yesterday we did it interestingly enough and it didn't even rain that hard early on later on

It did and

Tyler will appreciate this as an alumnus of the Waksha South Baseball Co

The the boys were playing over at um Milwaukee uh south Milwaukee. It was a makeup game

A non-conference game

And the traded leads back and forth and it went into extra innings. It was like I think it's got the 12 innings

It was like real

And finally in that 12

In each inning we'd have a go ahead run and then they'd come back and then in this last frame

With bases loaded uh Tyler conjured jacked up like a two run single or something

Oh, no, maybe it was well, but it was just a great as a clutch hit and

This and this was finally going to be our moment. Yeah, because that it was only one out and it's just you know

I I just think there was a really good module going and then

Little bolt of lightning came out and that's it and and when they call a game

They have to revert back to the previous innings. So the game ended in a tie. Oh, so it um and it's tried

You know because the the black shirts the night before and Thursday lost a heartbreaker or a conmo lock

in extra innings and

Yeah, just just heartbreaking

I think the final score that game was like five to three or five to two and

Brighton stop pitch an amazing game that day on Thursday night and especially after um

They had uh they got they got trounce by a conmo lock at all kind of Tuesday like 10 nothing

They're starting pitcher. I guess is committing to a South Carolina great great program and then money night

um

Black shirts also luck to cross lost across town rivals walk a shot north

down radamsky's nor stars having a great year

and

So they they swept the black shirts and coach radamsi gets to keep the long wooden bat that coach stillman reintroduced into the

the rivalry the tradition

So but the nice thing about that night it was a close game for the first reunings

But we had a lot of alumni come to visit

Including eric teagues your former teammate and bandmate who was who was also seriously injured and the parade and uh

It's just great to see eric

He did miss his freshman year of boyate for baseball because of a torn ECL

But he's getting that fixed. So hopefully he'll be back out in the diamond

If not later this summer uh, well for sure next season for the buccaneers of boyate. So

It's uh been a busy week already and um and getting ready for a very busy weekend

After this show we driving down to Elkorn to watch the walk shot

ESA suffer jets in a tournament down there and um my daughter and her team

Really excited to see them

so um

But you know both of you actually haven't have a musical background and you know and Tyler born and raised here in the show

Jessica transpired like myself

What is the less Paul Heritage meant to you guys here in the show starting with putty?

You know growing up that was a name you always heard and as I've gotten older and gone through you know band and stuff like that

It's uh

It's a true honor to have been a part of the music community with such a

You know legend that came out of this time. Sure. Sure. Can you move the mic up to you a little bit there? Yeah

There you go. You have such a great voice Tyler. How about you Jessica? What does it meant to you?

A whole bunch of people in my family my extended family. I've always played guitar

I'm hung the I'm the anomaly playing piano and um that includes my husband my dad

cousins and so when we were moving here to be honest I'm like

But they're like

Okay, okay, okay, okay, and they're like okay. He's a really great guitar guy isn't he's like oh my gosh

We gotta educate you so um and got the history about him everything and then I'm like wait

I think my dad had a less ball guitar and

It just kind of snowballed from there. I'm like oh, I'm really glad that I'm living in a place where

Everyone that I know yeah, I feel like everyone I know or a lot of people that I know

Kind of got their inspiration from when I kind of understood more about what gave them inspiration

And the more I learned about him the more I was intrigued like he would if you know where gurk

He's corners is that there was a drive-in years ago and in the last Paul actually that's kind of how the electric guitar was born

Was that he he ripped out the amps from his parents phonograph

Brought it to the drive in and took some copper and some wiring and then wired the guitar to the so people could hear and play guitar

And that was like one of this first little money making gigs, but

He then invented a new way of you know enjoying guitar playing and enjoying guitar and and really revolutionized

So many music genres in America

And I think guitar is actually a lot easier to

I think maybe that's my ignorance, but you can correct me if I'm wrong

Easier to improvise and kind of

Create into something new like a piano. Yeah, you know, I mean so many of the grades were like I never knew that instrument could like be

That sound could be wrought out of that instrument right right people I follow on Facebook or TikTok or whatever

And I'm like dang

They're so innovative with this instrument that was meant to do this and now they've just made a whole entire genre of doing this

Yeah, yeah, and so and and I want to say this real quick if you love music

One of the stations we have is called WRJN out of racing

You know, we have over 20 stations in the civic media portfolio

And WRJN went back to its original format, which was strictly

Music and news and if you love oldies like I do oldies rock

tune that in at your leisure

Again, you can use the civic media app so you don't have to be in racing to enjoy it

And it's like like this morning

I heard like hang on slupy by the McCoy's and love child by the Supremes and

Yeah, a lot of that a lot of that great music you can listen to for hours and that's

One of the questions we ask a lot on the different civic media stations is what is radio meant to you and for me

You know, I'm in my 50s like radio was always was a big part of my life because of the music and when you have stations like

WRJN it continues to be and I love that and

Another thing too when you go to our radio station Wruk radio.com or any of the civic media radio stations

There's a big on the navigation bar on the top. It'll say big deals

Check that out because you have an opportunity to get gift cards at participating restaurants and retailers

And you're getting a discount so you're you're buying a $40 gift card for $30 or you in every little bit helps

And it's it's great promotion for the businesses and it's a great way for you

You know, especially with graduation coming up to get some really neat gifts for those graduates and save a few bucks

Buy yourself a couple beers or whatever it is. You like to use so but

Max says we about about two minutes here

What is radio meant to you guys in your lives?

Music

Yeah

It honestly is different for me to listen to the radio with music then listening to the same exact music on a CD

And like for me, maybe I'm the weird one, but I actually don't mind the commercials because in my brain

I think I'm connected to like live people doing something

Even if they don't hear who they are. Let's say it's not a talk show. They just play the oldies

And they announce it in between but sometimes it feels very cloistered listening to a CD and I want to be connected to the world

Well, and that's what radio used to be and that the whole concept of a DJ at disc jockey

The disc jockey would be would be chatting and up all the songs playing as if you're in the same room enjoying it

Where in which in the days of vinyl like that was our tradition

so

So much more to unpack here on this beautiful Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend and speaking of tradition

We're gonna be honoring our vets including especially the 14 sons of Walker shot

We lost in Vietnam and then more to learn about

Farmer's market in the next hour

June 15th speaking of music. It'll be anarchy in the WAUK as another Waksha South catcher like Tyler here

Evan Bendix and as a band called the Nunchucks

then

a punk rack band out of high school

So he'll be my guest on my birthday June 15th

So so much more in this week in Waksha on WAUK 540 AM 101.1 FM this shot

Every little rose white is covered with me and my heart is calling for you the thrush

I have a letter here

Been a long time ago to a miss Bixby in Boston

It's better with me

There madam

I've been shown in the files of the board department a statement

The Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five

sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle

I feel how we can fruitless must be any words of mine

It would attempt to be guile you from the grief of a loss overwhelming

But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found

In the thanks of the Republic

They died to save

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement

And leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost

The solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom

Your was very sincerely and respectfully

Your Brem Lincoln

You guys think this week in Waukesha and what you just heard is the

What is commonly known as the Bixby letter was one of the pivotal scenes and the movie saving private Ryan

And something I like to play every year and Memorial Day weekend as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and I

I want to specifically call out

The 14 sons of Waukesha

That we lost in the Vietnam War

And

Gonna try my best in the time we have left to

Tell a little bit about each one because they're they found a few neat interesting testimonials

But right now I'm just gonna give you the name of all 14 and

Join me in kind of a moment of a reflection

Walter Clay Booth

Excuse me

Robert Lee Whedon

Aaron Lee Wood

David Joseph Frischman

And William Steven Hider

Now in a moment we're gonna give you

Tell you with the activities we have that are going on here in Waukesha from Wauldy

But we have a call from one of our our biggest fans and a really good friend on Waukesha native Greg Wandsnighter Greg. Are you still there?

We're doing great on this lovely Memorial Day weekend and Greg I understand it one of your friends here in studio

Jessica

Just a little music yes

And you can find her

And just to do so hand to your Facebook page. I believe you do that

I do facebook.com slash Jessica Lynn music Lynn with a single in

Yeah

Um, good to hear your voice my friend and I think you take just that. I don't know if you got it

Anyway, um, I got no text from you actually. I was gonna yell at you about that because I always be techist to you

Yeah, yeah, so anyway, I'll have to walk to resolve that but anyway

Jessica has played at several of my birthday parties and um

Maybe pre-calibre when I had a birthday party in

My dad's in Waukesha and um at different coffee shops. I'm gonna surprise surprise down right there to coffee shops and driver

You don't know me, but uh

driver we should get together. Yeah, absolutely

shop because yeah

Because that's why I met all the time

and

Yeah

Dan I was just going to

um

First of all, I was going to ask Jessica to see

Possibly seeing my favorite song

Acapella putting her on the spotable to it $25

Uh, a few bars of it, but

Besides that I wanted to pass one

Um, so a little bit of Waukesha needs if I plan

Um, Dan, have you been in the new hope center?

Um, have you seen that he center has moved?

I haven't it's is it on the is it on the corner of Wisconsin or has that moved? Is that the old location?

Um Wisconsin in east I think it is

Okay, um, it's moved to

um

Location and I forgot the address, but there's an open house

Later on this week and people want more information about that you go to the center website

Um, unfortunately, I wasn't able to get out my email

I'm on my phone this morning, but you can google hope center Waukesha to find it, right Greg?

Hope center incorporated Waukesha

and uh

The cool thing is with this transition um

That helps and uh is they

Didn't miss a single beat even when they were moving uh locations

Um, they

Yeah, we obviously offer a hot meal every day

And they offer offer their

Closing shop and they were still

able to offer those things even

I say we're moving

locations so um

Pretty pretty impressive with that

I could as to

Our well stick and as team um

We should get the well stick as a guest on that

We can walk this off the desk. We have to reach out. Yeah, whatever you can do to help in that effort. It's fairly appreciated

Hey, yeah, real quick. I'm sorry. Go ahead

Um, I'm still making care of the university. Have their golf shouting coming up coming up too

So um, carry you got you for more information about that. That sounds good

So hey, I want to kind of get back on topic with memorial day and and like

Um, we we have any special plans to um to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice

Yeah, well, I am thinking about going down to the does that pretty moving ceremony from what I understand a copper park

Yep on Monday. Yep. Um

And I'm not sure what time that is so I got right here for your friend and for everyone listening uh

Well the morning starts

From eight to three there's the avenue of flags at prairie home cemetery

I'm gonna get back to prairie home in a second, but then at 10 a.m

There's the river service at veterans park at 710 west avenue

And um, even though they're in close close proximity for many of those that are elderly or especially our veterans

uh

Their coach USA is offering free bus service for those to go from the river service to the memorial

They service at cutler park 321 was cancer and avenue and that starts at 11 a.m

So yes, I'll put that on your your your calendar there

Greg and um going back to the cemetery too

I encourage everyone to check out prairie home cemetery the avenue of flags and there's an opportunity

There's maps and where where you can find some of the um those veterans

especially the 14th sons of wakashah that may be buried there

And I think it's just a wonderful way to uh to make a great observance

For our sons and daughters and in all the words from wakashah who made the ultimate sacrifice and

You know, there's not a parade, but there's all these other observances that are very meaningful and um before there was a parade

prairie home cemetery was basically the center piece of

Memorial Day observations

Down the street there was or adjacent to the cemetery. There would be a festival every year

And it was kind of a chance for everybody to kick off the summer and um you and after you know

You spend an hour or however long that is at prairie home cemetery and you know and there's some some reflection and

Well, it's just nice especially for the children to then to say hey, you know

It's time to celebrate the summer and uh, and of course keep those forever in our hearts

Um knowing they may never grow old, but the youthful spirit lives on and so um you know

Maybe that's something we can resurrect if we can't bring the parade back and maybe it might make more sense to have something

That would give a chance for a community-wide celebration

I know a lot of people like to make their own plans a lot of people will go out of town

Maybe to their cottages and stuff and um and that's that's wonderful too

And I know my my in-laws will be there and my my

In-laws on Monday for a nice celebration

We're gonna see some family I haven't seen in a while so that that's that's important too

But um that might be a new wrinkle if we're if we're not gonna have a parade that maybe we have something

That's a chance for the whole community to come together in addition to those services. So

Down to one minute and one point say

Justice yeah

Copilot coffee I was talking with the owner of that. I know they don't advertise on the show

So yeah, but um they are looking for

musicians um I was talking with Amelia their owner as a reason next day copilot is in the um

At the building that's uh 363 Westman

Um historically that's the former location of spizzo cafe and they're looking for musicians that have all original

content

They can't do covers there, but they are looking for musicians. So

plenty of them

Yeah, people are interested. They can um

stop in there and

and attack to

Amelia um

If they're manager and just see um

They are open limited hours so they could meet someone kind of like that

lunch sounds good you know good deal music that um that would be

Something I have read and then just one more thing real quick

Sure, one real quick. Oh, we got to shoot. Yeah, we got to rest the show to do here Greg as much say love to hear from me. Go ahead

Okay

Love this thing to Cindy super she's a vocal legend and uh she does the mid-day show on local news timeless hits

1400 w rj and so

Yeah, that's

That's really great. So um she's

She's a

Radio

Hey, thanks for the call Greg and for all that you do for our city and um Greg triple G once nighter. Have a great holiday weekend

Take care man, so you keep that all right

So Tyler, what are your plans for Memorial Day weekend?

I plan an out Friday night live and you know

Getting ready remembering those yeah sure sure

And then you said you also tickets for sale for the first exhibit, right? Yeah, so um actually all the ones

We have planned out and dates booked to go to bobble heads dot com slash

Shop so when people want to get ahold of you they've got there's a Facebook page, right? Yes. We have our Facebook or Instagram

Another thing that I wanted to mention really quick is that we're always looking for nominations of our warrior children to

So you can go to bobble heads together. Dot com slash warriors. Thank you for mentioning that yeah to nominate a kid today

That's terrific

So you know as much

I hate say there's there's there's probably keeping you busy with a lot of the the tragedies that take place

locally and in the world today

Yeah, but that's the thing is even though that we have those horrible things and acts that happen is just

Remembering to stay positive and help people through it

There's angels like you and your mom Katie Katie's also here in studio that are

Are there to kind of to share some some some comfort and some joy. Yeah, during a difficult time

That's fantastic. So how about you Jessica any

Memorial Day plans?

Well tonight we're going over some friends house. Oh, that's right game night

Yeah, well, actually, we were chatting off air about that. No, that's actually next week. I'm sorry. We have a lot of weekends

booked up

But that's what we're doing to tonight and then I don't think we have anything that we were

Officially planning Monday, but we probably should check out that um

The memorial service going on. Yeah, and because I don't think I'm teaching piano lessons that day

It's a loyal day. Yeah, you gotta gotta have the day off. So I didn't take it off like calendar

I was like, I don't think I'll do it

So you know, you want to talk about um, so we're not we're not from

Quaker Shaw originally, but Jessica and I both come from towns that have a lot of history

Jessica, what's the name you tell us the name of your hometown?

My hometown's Appomattox, Virginia. I lived there for most of my life before moving here

I wasn't born there, but for a long sense and purposes. Yes, which is where as we know

General Lee surrendered to general granta and the civil war. So great great history there and

My hometown is part of the underground railroad found it by Quakers

So but hey so much more to talk about here in this week and watch out with Tyler Pudliner of Bobbleheads bring us together and

Jessica says nasky of Jessica Lynn music

and

As we get ready to for our report coming in from the farmer's market that'll begin in the second hour and then

my guests on June 22nd include

Fort district alderman Joe Piper making his maiden voyage and

Ben Steinhoff was running for U.S. Congress will stop by as well as a retired Milwaukee police officer

As a new book out and looking forward to

Tell you more about that here this week and watch out w.a.uk

540 am 101.1 FM the shot and don't forget to download the civic media app if you haven't already

You

Yes, and this week and watch out the song in hearing is called all together now by a band called the farm and I just learned

This song is all about

The christmas Eve truce in world war one where both sides got together and shared libations and a game of

Well, what the europeans call football what we call soccer and it was a night of peace and a night of

By the way, it should be and I think that's neat that you'd have a modern song that would reflect on that

and

Want to thank triple g for the call he asked if

Jessica would play his favorite song here in acapello and Jessica's agreed to do it would now be a good time

Yeah better than that anything else I could say go

So great personal plug. I think I know that you wanted me to do an original, but I'm gonna actually not do that one. I'm gonna do the um

Uh

Public domain

Spiritual that I know you like because it's a little better acapella than the other sounds great

Have at it

The

Who's that writing

John the revelator wrote the book of the seven seals

We're on the book of the seven seals

God came down in the cool of the day

Called out on by his name

But Adam was afraid and he had himself he was naked and a shame

He was naked and a shame

Who's that writing

John the revelator tell me who's that writing

John the revelator tell me who's that writing

The revelator wrote the book of the seven seals

We're on the book of the seven seals

Fantastic, thank you. Just they should have asked you about the length of the song. You know, they could have been like hey

Jude or something

So when I bet yeah, no, that was lovely and an acapello to um

Always fun. No, no, I just I know that's uh

A lot of people that's a challenge a lot of people if you don't have that music behind you

So for vocalist, but no, thank you for sharing and

Um, it's too bad putty didn't bring his sacks, you know, we could have a little collaboration here

But we we got to get you to take that up again, you know, and just maybe just a little little gathered

And I just can't help me organize that little sessune of different musicians and uh

I'm ready to practice for a while. That's well, that's the whole idea is you're practicing

So yeah, yeah, you're we're not asking you to come to uh, you know play um

Fieserve or like in a or major major music venue

It's you know, we're getting together at a coffee house or bar or even here in studio and just uh

Just jamming and if I can plug in real quick

I don't know if you know that every Thursday night at mainstream

bar and grill on main street

They have the open mic. All right. I don't know if you knew that um starts at eight

I believe goes till whenever it's always till whenever, you know

And um, I've been there a couple of times

I know a couple of people who run because each month so like the first week or the second week

There's the same person that runs at that week. Yeah, the month

And um, I wish I had a saxophone um, there was a wedding I played for where there was a sax player that we do

Edited we played this will be an everlasting love for me because you have to have a saxophone with that one

Yeah, yeah, I love it. So I love and then Tuesday nights at house again. It's there's a sessune

There's a traditional Irish session and they have professional musicians like three of them to come in but

In a traditional set anyone can come in that has an instrument and if they know some Irish music or

A vocal instrument if you will if there's a for the Irish ballad you know and love you could you could just go and belt it out and

You know, that it's a very there's real communal aspect to it that makes it fun

So and that's a word. So we're like so we're not expecting clearance climbers Tyler

We're just you know, it's just a young guy who loves playing sax and uh

And just yeah kind of working out and having fun. So hey returning to

Uh more of the observances

I wanted again. I shouted out. I listed the 14 sons

From Waukeshaw killed in Vietnam and wanted to cite them individually

First one is this is Walter Clay Booth was a captain in the 20th special ops squadron 14 special ops wing

7th at the United States Air Force and

He was born on September 18, 1939 passed away and marched

29th, 1969

and

You know on the website you can find these reflections and there's one from his daughter a Carmen Jane Booth

And she says Walter Clay Booth was my dad

I remember him from when we lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico before he left for Vietnam

My sister and I both kept

Booth as our last names to honor his memory

I have three children and both of my sons have part of his name Andrew Clay and Walter Ryan

He has never been forgotten

And and we will never of course will never forget him here in the shot. We remember him with love

How we doing on time here max is that three minutes or 30 seconds 30 seconds three minutes. Okay great

so

So yes some more veterans. We're gonna

Shout out here actually the next one here is Donald Glenn

Dingledine

And he was born on St. Patrick's Day 1945

and

Was killed in the Quang Nong province on September 14, 1966

and

Donald was a member of the Marine Corps

And a special plate my place in my heart for the Marines

And then my predecessor on the City Council current County Supervisor

Terry Thimi was a Marine as well as my good friend Harold Pete Miller

Purple Heart in

World War II in the Pacific theater in Guadalcanal

and

So much respect for all the Armed Forces, but in particular those those Marines

So many but

Another name here is Otto Robert enslin

And Otto was born on April 22nd, 1946

And then was killed on April 22nd, 1967

And he was Otto was in the

US Army, so Otto is remembered family and so we're gonna talk about actually I got time for one more name

I have

Fred Anderson Fetter born January 14th, 1944

And

Was killed on August 9th, 1969

And he was a member of the US Army

And of course that's Fred Anderson Fetter forget forever in our hearts and

Well

So many more veterans

11 more to talk about here in the next hour as well as we'll be opening up with a report from the farmers markets looking forward to hearing from Chris Merrill

And so much to catch up on here

Jessica gave us her party piece me. We get Tyler to give us a couple

Little Acapella with his sacks there now

Now actually we'll be talking more about Bob all heads bringing us together

And if I didn't live opening up and again, of course some more of Memorial Day observances here

And this beautiful Saturday

I'm a Memorial Day weekend and my daughter care if you're listening. I will bring your turf shoes

downtown corn

So

Right after the show say hopefully the game's been pushed back because of all the rain

So by you're listening this week and watch out w8k

540 am 101.1 FM this shot and don't forget the civic media app and I don't forget to look for those big deals

I'm big deals on w8kradio.com

What's together now

Clean out your books from the shift

Well this song is inspired by good manners too

Doing good for the sick amazing ways to you

It doesn't really matter if you're a jumble up inside as long as you know

The love is in my sense the world is wild

I

love

You ready

Give it up

Share it out

Oh, they don't know the words hey, it's May 25th

2024 and if it's eight o'clock on Saturday morning, it's still time

For this week in Wakshaw, I'm your host down brown. I've got the mighty max martinson producing

My guest here Tyler putt liner of bobble heads bring us together and Jessica

Cisnowski of jescaline music and

I am proud to introduce our inaugural farmers market report from our very own Chris morrow Chris. Are you there?

Hey, good morning. I am here. How are things there would just great just great

And you're the one who inspired me to bring Tyler back on the show when we were covering the parade you guys at a nice chat

So really glad to have him back on you're gonna see him at Friday night live

Chris be sure to look for him and

Get some some bobble heads autograph by local celebrity sports celebrity. So yeah, very cool

That's always one of our favorite events in the summer here in Wakshaw. No doubt. So tell us about the farmers market

Well, that's another favorite event here. We are once again at the farmers market in downtown Wakshaw

Everything got rolling here just a few minutes ago eight o'clock

You can officially walk in although on a beautiful morning like this

It's kind of fun to see how many people were here before eight o'clock walk in the

Walk in the aisles with the tents and everything set up

So I think it's gonna be a pretty busy day today. So come on down here

I mean this looking around from the the crafts and get a little early for fresh produce for the fields

But the baked goods and the different things that people have including a lot of the green things like the flowers that grow in the garden this time of the year

There's popcorn as it looked behind me. There's there's all kinds of stuff you can choose from

But we urge you to come down. It's one of these one of these community events that just makes you feel connected to Wakshaw and the southeast Wisconsin

One of the biggest farmers markets in the state if not the region

So we'd love to see you down here

I've also got a chance for anybody who stops by our WAUK table to when our bike we got a bike

We're being given away or we will give away sometime in early July

And you know what it's a simple bike. It's not a 10 speed. It's not a racer

It's a lot of bike

But the thing is is solid. It's something you can use probably for the next 20 years

And we'll give it away simply by having you stop by our booth and signing up

And we'll do a random drawing in July. In the meantime, we'll check back in in about 30 minutes down

I can't wait again live from the farmers market here on 540 AM and 101.1 FM WAUK

Thanks so much. Chris Merot

I'm so open. It was a Harley

Not that kind of bike

Yeah, that kind but I will say this don't be surprised down the road if that becomes a

Chris has done a fantastic job leading the sales efforts for civic media across our portfolio of stations

And we're noticing in here on WAUK when you hear there's just like so many great sponsors

Local businesses to people we want to support so we're very grateful for that very grateful for Chris's efforts

I actually want to have him on a guest

I might show one of these Saturday mornings because he's got a really rich history in radio

Many might recognize that voice, you know, Chris was on he was on air and he continues to

Consult and do other great things in radio

So when I have him on it's gonna probably have to be a recorded show

So but he was saying about the Waukshap farmers market being one of the largest in the state

I think yeah, at least for a while technically it was actually second only to medicines

Wow, yeah, when I first moved here that was definite and I was 2015 though it could have changed but still

Yeah, that is a lot. Well, and I know we

Are we the largest Friday night live in Wisconsin?

And maybe the only one but and that's getting bigger now that

Tyler Tyler had pub liner has brought his bible heads bring us together project as an exhibitor at Friday night live

And I think that adds the fun especially when you have your

Many of them brewers or admiral players or legends. Yeah

Showing up as an appearance. That's a great

Great issue for you about Friday night live because when we first moved here

It was a longer stretch. It wasn't just June, July, August or whatever it is now

Going to September I think yeah, or maybe even started in May. How do you think the change is fair?

Do you think that there's more people that come out per weekend now or do you think it's with the same?

That's a good question. I think for sure one of the reasons that

They shortened it is that

The high school football season starts early so even in like mid-August you start to see those numbers drop off because

People are at

North side especially if they're I mean they're all opening that's like that second or third

Friday and August that they start it's earlier

There's always two games in August and so you have three high schools while four when you count cat a memorial

So that right there takes away, you know hundreds and I believe it was only that first week in September that

Go into so now if it's stopping at the 30th this year of August it might just be one week

Yeah, I might have just been how it felt this sure

But that's a nice time I said if you're not a high school football fan or you don't have kids that are playing

That's a great time to go because and you feel like you kind of got

The finite life more to yourself and that's one too and uh, but it's just it that's

When the kids were little used to go and I think we had more fun when the kids were little yeah

Because there was so much for them to do and see

We'd always go to the joke shop called the joke shop. Oh, yeah, the joke shop called and they're running out of you

George is dancing, but um, and then there was there used to be a popcorn place

Kind of around the bend there next to dadios

And then that move like Knudsen's bought that and they put it right there and then well Knudsen's moved

But there's still fun things for the kids to do a lot of opportunity

I mean, I met Jessica dance shop the frame store

And Dan's got that really crazy exhibit where he's like uh, yeah

Yeah, he's doing, you know, he's very talented. He does. Oh, yeah, he has a lot of fun to that too

Yeah, it's funny because I did not I knew him

When the Knudsen's had the place on the the five points

He hit next to guitar for life studio and I'd meet him for a beer before my

Before a couple of my committee meetings was just one beer. I wasn't shown up drunk for a city council, but

Then I didn't recognize him right away when he was out there in the street for Friday alive

He kind of takes on a different persona, I think and really has fun with it

And so again, it's something for the kids to enjoy all the different music exhibits

I need and um

You know during covid who was decided on out I was probably part of the council that

We were

became a lot more open-minded about this the street

Cafe licenses and so groups like spring city that didn't really have a full kitchen menu

You could now have an outdoor and that really that really helped them a lot

And all the other small businesses

That necessarily didn't have a full kitchen menu

Yeah, and it just it makes for much a much richer experience at Friday live and um

You know if I become king of lockish now, nope, no kids, but if I were I'd have more influence. I would want to explore ways where

Some adults could take adult beverages and because you can't leave one one venue with your adult

You know the way it is now and I think

There was a fear that it would attract too many young people that might

Abuse that privilege, but I just that's not young people

We're talking like college age and higher. They might go there to meet

Maybe have a drink somewhere and then they're gonna go to the lake or to you know the lot or some other place

And sister bay up in door county has that um, I don't know if you know that but you can

Walk with your open container down the street. Yeah, and it's a beautiful place to go. There's nothing no riffing as far as I know

It's crawling with police and we have such a great relationship with our police in this city everybody knows

So it's like you're not gonna do even our young people through our student resource austere programs at every high school

They know these guys and so you're you're not gonna

risk your reputation by you know tying one on at Friday night live

um, but well you would

What a lot of us adults would like to do those take our drink and and walk the street and check out some of the different exhibits

Instead of instead we're kind of forced to stand at

You know the place where you got the beer or the or the drink and we can't leave until we finish it

And so I think that's just the one thing and it'd be great to work on that

And find a way to enhance it because it is such a great concept and it's very contrarian because as a former operator

You would not want something on a Friday night that took up all the parking spots or the access

That's usually a Thursday or Monday night thing or something like that or a festival kind of but

Walk a shami to work and it what started as a way to give the downtown of a facelift and attract

It's really become a tradition and a really fun one and it's become lucrative for these local businesses

So like I mentioned spring city

You know a lot of times people get this outdoor cafe tables and they're there for the night

But what it does is to draw people in it's like wow, you know, I mean it and that says you you look beyond those little tables and spring

City is now packed on Friday nights and it's fun to see

Because that's also it's about you know helping drive business drive our local businesses and support them in a big way speaking of driving businesses

I want to know what business I accidentally stumbled on at Friday night live. I don't know what street I was on

I wasn't even drunk. That's just how dumb I am. I can't remember where I was. I maybe I was on south street

Okay, I ended up watching people do axe throwing. Where is this place axe? It was axe throwing. How long ago is that?

It was just last year Friday night live. It was I went inside an elevator

I went up to the second floor and it was a business. There was a bar

I had fries. I had karaoke and in the adjacent rooms same business. There was freaking axe

Wow

If you own this if you own this business or if you've been there and you know the name of this place

You can call using the city media. Okay, he put on your friend. Okay, so I'm in the studio is looking to stuff on her phone

And that's a new it must be new that open up. I heard there was something like that coming to a shop

831 north grand avenue sweet b200 in walkershaw so north grand avenue. All right

That's what I was and apparently it was it was amazing. I didn't axe throw. I was watching. I'm like

Yeah, it takes talent though. Oh sure

And and there was you know the whole safety thing like they look like they really covered all their bases

But then they was karaoke on the one side and the beer that was the axe throwing up stairs are down

It was upstairs because the business is on the second floor. Okay, but yeah, so we we've got it all here like you don't even know

Wow hidden secrets and gems and down

Yep, yep, I love that. I love that. Hey, why don't you take a moment to again? Remember

some of the the 14 sons of walkershaw that we had lost and the name of mine now is James Peter Harto

James was born on a New Year's Day in 1945

And had passed away on April 6, 1966 in the twat 10 province and

James was also a member a proud member of our Marines and I also want to mention here Dennis Lee McCormick

Who was born on

Veterans Day or what we used to call armistice date 1949 November 11th and

he had

He passed away in September 15, 1968 in the Tydenin province

And he was a member of our army that's Dennis Lee McCormick and so

um

But back with Tyler Pudliner

And Jessica Sysnowski got both getting really excited about

Friday nightlife and

Just um

Okay, so yeah, let's um we're going to continue this conversation with them before we do

I also want to mention another veteran we lost in Vietnam from watch out John D Morris who was

born in April excuse me February 28th

1942

And then passed away on December and Christmas Day 1967 in the Klang Tree Tribe province and

This young man for every young was a member another member of our Air Force

So we remember him with love

Again, that's John D Morris as this week in watch I continues on this memorial the beautiful memorial day weekend

May 25th 2024

Ready let's give it up share it out help we can talk about and talk about it ready

Give it up

Share it out

Help we can

Help we can

Remember that terrible day

When the blood stained the sand and the water

And how in that hell

That they call so

Levi

We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter

Yeah

Johnny Tarky was ready

Hey prime

Here's a new this week in watch on WUK and that's um my dear departed friend

Shea McGowan and the pokes with um their version of uh and the band played Waltsing Matilda

a classic ballad um that pays tribute to the

50,000

Australian troops killed in Gallipoli in World War One

And um you talk about a terrible beauty

The I guess I think we call them allied forces then

were basically uh

British

Colonials

So you had Irish Catholics and Protestants from Northern Ireland

You had um

Jews and Palestinians from the what was that known as the old Palestine

You know a lot of bitter tribes fighting together as one as brothers as comrades and

arms in a

A real obviously a violent bat one of the violent most violent theaters of World War of the Great War

They're in Gallipoli

fighting the Turks and

um

You know we obviously lost quite a few Americans in that war too and so but um you know

With Memorial Day 2, I think it is a good opportunity to remember those who who fought alongside us

Uh in our battles to um as Woodrow Wilson said then make the world safe for democracy and um

But I do recommend anyone has the chance to hear that song in its entirety

Um very moving on this Memorial Day weekend and um I'm here with Tyler Pudliner of Bobbleheads bring us together

And Tyler's also joined by his mom Katie here in studio. Oh, it's always great to have her around

And then uh Jessica says nasky and Jessica has coordinated a uh after this

They're gonna head over to one of the coffee shops to meet Greg triple G once nighter who was uh one of earlier colors and who

Convince Jessica to give us a lovely uh

Acapella song a favorite Negro spiritual of hers and so that was uh that was rather enjoyable

We had a great farm report from chris morrow at um at the farmers market

That's our second week there and he's gonna be calling in um in the

The next early in the next half hour to give us an update now that uh

The market is officially open enough

It is true a chris said is even though the farmers are going to open is officially late

But there are people that uh you can come earlier and a lot of those guys those vendors are ready

If there's a produce you get really excited about you want to be the first one in there and it's kind of an unwritten rule

So you know wink wink but um

There's some people that just love to come to avoid the dogs

You know when I help set up a couple summers go

I was like what are you looking for? I was thinking he's like, you know, gonna look for some real like

Minestra Nair or some like really unique green or some cool produce to cook with me

No, I just I don't like the dogs very much so they let me come in like before I

So let um

Want to remember another one of our 14 sons um killed in the war and Vietnam from walk shan. This is Lawrence E

Schmidt

Who was born on October 30th

1948

And I was killed on November 4th 1969 in the the nin

Twan

Province

And Lawrence was a member of our us army. I also want to remember Cornelius a vanderstering

Who was born on

July 20th

1948

And was killed um

On September 13th 1968 in the toatian province

And Cornelius was a member of the us army and you know what observation we never think about with the Vietnam

You know a lot of these veterans

Were born in the forties while world war two was going on or in the aftermath. I mean they're obviously they were old enough for a member

Um bits of it. I mean maybe maybe too young but the thing is they they

They they were born right after world war two which we would we'd hoped I mean world war one

Associated war to end all wars and that was the hope for world war two

And then create happen and and so

You know a lot of those young men

Not only survived, but though obviously those are killed it

They were basically surrounded by there was war major war going on

Throughout their lives and I guess it is very much true today in many parts of the world in our lifetimes, but

You know, I think as we as we remember those that we love those loved and lost um

I think our our commitment to honor them is to do what we can to um

um

As one of my favorite um

statesman once said to

To tame the savages of man and make gentle of a life of this world. So but um, how are we doing on time there mr. maxa million

Okay, good four minutes. That's fantastic. So um Tyler any other little surprises or things we should be aware of

For right in it live with bobble heads bring us together. Oh, we said we still got a couple open dates

Uh, they were trying to fill so stay tuned to the Facebook page and see what we got going on try to get some celebrities to uh

To get in there with you then, huh? Yep. Yeah

Fantastic. I love it

And i just skate because you you performed at friday at live before so you you're looking to try to get in at some point too

If that's if the schedule's not completely full. Yeah, I mean, I would highly doubt that it's not full at this point

It's already on us um, but yeah, definitely for next year

I've had trouble finding who's in charge of the music line up uh, so if anyone knows uh

Call in or hit me up on Facebook or something. Sure. So I have um go ahead. I'm sorry. No, no, it's not you. It's me

This okay, I'll take it

Uh, I I'm far more plugged in currently with the farmers market music lineup

I'm actually playing next week the eight to nine thirty slot and this year they're having two stage right

Which is awesome. They've worked on that for so long. It's a little unfortunate one of the stages

It doesn't have electric as at least of now

So you can only do your acoustic instrument so that you know limits someone like me for example at the one

But still it opens up um and he's had people just banging down the door

Trying to line uh, bands up and everything they all want to be part of it because it's great good exposure

And yeah, just is a comfortable place honestly with the the way that they have it set up right

So yeah, um, I don't know if you're

Familiar with any of the bands that are lining up for this year at the

Yeah, let's hear it. You have a schedule for obviously. There's me. I'm playing this month. That's next week. Okay

Actually next week is actually next month

There you go. Hey, if you know who Caitlyn

Is uh, Caitlyn's a friend of mine. She also teaches it out. Oh, it's music

That's right over there. Okay. Uh, Caitlyn Pico. She used to go by. She's recently married. Okay, she's playing at the farmers market this year

There's a band called little bit of heaven. There's band called casual intent

I actually used to be in that band years ago pre-COVID

Um, but you know styles and whatnot and they're great people. They really got tight. Yeah, yeah, all

Kind of stuff and cold rock

Dr. Bob music Bryce hunter

Frickin company walking cartoon love light and harmony or just a couple of lineups. They're gonna get this year

At the farmers market. That's a nice lineup and um, yeah, it leads me to a question

What I imagine you play piano and you sing that you're you probably play many different genres of music

I would imagine you do some some jazz torch singing

I do some jazz and oddly enough I tend to make a jazz

slash

Folk sounding nice stuff out of

I was just gonna say folk had to be in there. Yeah pull from yeah out of stuff that you'd expect to hear

As a rock and roll song or even as metal like I play Metallica

But it's not gonna sound like Metallica. Right. Okay. I play, you know, Jay Taylor

Okay, Simon. I play um, you know, obviously. I do obviously play some rap pack. Yeah

It's pretty much just making it sound like my own style, but it's a song you'd know and love

Sounds good. We're gonna learn more about the music that

Jessica's

Siznowski provides as well as more from

Tyler Puttliner and Bobbleheads and more on Friday Live and also um Memorial Day Remembrance is and the um

More on the farmers market from Chris Moro who'll be calling in

Stick around and this week and walk a shot so much done pack

Yeah

Oh

I just come from the land of the sun

For my war that must be one in the name of truth

Will I

So just so brave your freedom we will save

With our life

What are you talking about?

My family

My wife and child

Waiting for me

Oh

Hey, you're listening this week and walk a shot and that was a love vigilante used some new order which if you listen to the song closely

It's about a guy coming home from the war to see his family

Then you find out the end of the song that the guy it's his ghost that he was killed in action

And because he walks in the door and his wife's reading the telegram

Saying that um, I was a brave brave man, but that I was that was dead and uh hang

Again, keeping in our hearts

Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country this Memorial Day weekend and

Speaking of sacrifices. Oh, no, not much. It's an enjoyable sacrifice. Our good friend Chris Moro is calling in from the walk a shot

farmers market now that it's in full

um, and it's first half hour Chris. Uh, go ahead. What's going on there?

Well, it's the it's the farmers market as we do every Saturday morning here in walk a shot

It opens up at eight o'clock every Saturday runs until noon and we're down here doing our

Our part to promote it on w a uk and and then you're shown down every week every Saturday morning

But I want a great day for this you know you wake up early on a Saturday morning. You kind of stretch

You look out the window and think what kind of day am I going to get

This is the day we've been waiting for since last October

The sun is down. It's a little bit on the cool side

But it's fresh and clean and what better place to spend a fresh

Almost like a country Saturday morning is that the farmers market one of the things

I think I see most of the people kind of gravitating to are some of the

annual flowers and plants a lot of people down here with amazingly bright colors and beautiful greenery

Uh, the blooms are in in full bloom as they would say and people walking around with

And baskets and various things like that

But of course when you walk down here the first thing you do is smell some of the food cooking everything from your

Burgers and broads for breakfast, which is just fine

Some of the bakery is just amazing and anything you can imagine to enhance your kitchen or even outdoor living

So we invite you to come on down. We're given away a bike this spring. We've got this great logger bike

It's a regular old-fashioned pedal bike

Not 10 speeds not even three speeds it does have handle breaks

But you can get on this thing and anybody of any biking skills can ride it

I if you were to buy it in the bike store probably around 400 bucks, but we're going to give it away to somebody in early July

So you can spend the second half of the summer biking some of the great trails here in Waukeshau County

But we invite you to come on down. We're under the civic media tent

Uh, just waiting to say hello. We've got dog treats for your dog for that something else I should mention as a as a dog lover

The amazing variety of dogs walking around the farmers market

We had one. I think it was a poodle maybe a golden doodle or something nice

They had given a quite the interesting haircut and it had designed died in its fur and we escalated you know these

Are these safe? Oh, yeah, get it done by a by a certified groomer

But the dog looks like it had this amazing work of art across the spec

But everything from St. Bernard's to tiny little chihuahua is walking around here

So bring your dog come on down keep monoliche, but we'd love to see them too because we do have

Milk phones for the dogs

So we'll we'll check it again next Saturday morning as we continue to enjoy the farmers market

And we invite you to stop by and say hi to us w auk had 540 am 101.1 fm live at the farmers market this morning down

Thanks so much chris morrow

Executive vice president of sales for civic media and our station manager here at w auk

And yes make an effort to say hi to chris because chris

Brings a wealth of radio experience. You may be familiar with his voice from when he was on air

And so grateful that chris could spend his Saturday morning on this holiday weekend with us

But it sounds like a holiday going on there at the farmers market and we have kind of a baker's market here

Every Saturday morning around 830 thanks to our

Our resident council here at the office of former alderman down paul brown

James santel who show amicus a lot of you as next, but of course I call it adicus because he

In bodies the the spirit of adicus finch

In my in my mind and he's graced my guest and in the mighty max here with that myself with some wonderful pastries

homemade pastries and

From from a great mark from glorious was again from glorious was on Brady street. So

Jim does not spare any great expense very grateful for all that he does here and definitely stick around for his show

So much to learn especially with some of the legal developments going on

nationally

Chris mentioned he's giving a bike away and I think it's a good time for me to mention that

There is a trail challenge that the city walk a shop has going on

Here in our park system. We had Mary burg recreation services manager on the show last week talking about that

So I encourage you to check out

Parks rec and forestry you can get it to the city website and learn more about that and I believe biking is allowed

As well as pedestrian walking so

So yes sign up for that bike if you're down at the farmers market

I think that's a really great promotion. We have going on and

Speaking of chris maro and promotions and markets

We also have a daily market going on in w a uk radio.com

Called big deals. It's right in the there's a it's on the top navigation bar and w a k radio.com and a great opportunity to get some great deals

And gift cards from some great local restaurants

You know, you're going to save if it's a $40 gift card at one place you may only have to pay 30 or 25

Depending on who the retailer is and so highly encourage you to check that out especially with a lot of graduations going on in a great way

Especially if you're not a big shopper

But want to get something really thoughtful for those loved ones that are earning their degrees

Check out big deals here on w a uk radio.com and

Hey, we're talking off off line here

Jessica says naska you have jescaline music one of my guests

And um, she's a trans plant like myself, but she comes to us from the south from apomattox, Virginia, which we all know about historically and

You mentioned you want to talk about the cultural difference between walkishah and uh, so you say the southern experience

Yeah, yeah, it's definitely a very large experience

difference and

You know having been born in new york so the new england area and then moved very very young to Virginia where I really grew up

And then also having friends out you know in arizona and toward the west coast and now moving here in the midwest

It kind of seems as if you get more

Genuinity the farther you go west and it's it's interesting

When you think about it because a lot of people consider

Southern hospitality the concept to be

One of the best cultural experience you can get and obviously the food is outstanding or whatever

But I really enjoy the midwestern

Hospitality if I can even call it that because you have this genuinity about people

That they're gonna open their home to you. They want to know who you are even if there's you know

Disagreement along the way. There's no

I haven't experienced and maybe I'll be blindsided one day, but there's no backstabbing

Like and I don't mean to say that the south is bad or anything like that. I love I love all my friends there

and um, but it's it's just this culture of

Ah

Having to keep the peace as a facade for the sake of you know, and that's not here

And I really appreciate that and then obviously you have differences like um

The the weather is actually a lot less humid here

I think people sometimes are like what how can you say that it's so humid here as a yes

But you don't know the south it's like living in Florida if you're in the south the good south is Florida

I spent a year and two summers of Washington DC and um

We've got nothing on that in terms of humanity. Oh, yeah, not all and then you have um

The um well the food experience like obviously you're not gonna have the southern comfort food that you know

Only only the south can do the biscuits and gravy the chicken waffles and all that really great stuff

but

You have um more of a I guess a melting pot of culture here, which I like and then you have

We're not by any means in any

stretch of the imagination a dry town

This is the most drunk state in the nation as they joke Wisconsin is and I enjoy the

The culture that comes with sharing a beer with someone sharing a drink

Yeah, you don't have that down south you have other things, but

You would camaraderie in other ways that's greatly appreciated and um

It reminds me too as I um

I mentioned I had a retired police officer as a guest on June 22nd along with fourth district alderman

Joe Piper smoke and Joe Piper and a congressional candidate Ben Steinoff is um

His name is Patrick O'Donnell fellow Irishman like me a retired Milwaukee police sergeant who has a

A new concept of cops and writers podcast and I believe he also has a book out too

So I'm really looking forward to having a

Patrick on the show to add some Milwaukee area flavor to this week and walk a shot

And June 22nd so marker calendars and hey want to take a moment to as part of what I promised to

Shout out the the sons of 14 sons of walka Shah

We lost in the Vietnam war and this gentleman was why is Robert Lee Whedon

Who was born on April 23rd 1946

And was killed on May 2nd 1968 in the quang tri province and

um

Robert Lee Whedon

was part of the

He was part of our marine corps. So another um simplify another

Great marine uh remembered finally in our hearts forever and then uh Aaron Lee would

Who was born on august 13th 1949 and was killed on May 17th 1968 in the jidan province and Aaron

Um

Was a member of our um, you know, oh of the of the army. So armed forces

Army excuse me. So um again, we remember them

finally in our hearts and um

We will mention the the final two um

um

Later on and then I'm gonna read off all 14 again with a

Nice little I guess

Close to a prayer nice. Thanks a little

Ah image that I discovered yesterday at city hall of all places actually

So uh, but um back with my friend Tyler Pudliner getting ready for friday live opening

June 7th that next week June 7th

And um what was the opening day be like again for you

Our first one right now is the 14th. So that's the second week. Oh, okay. So you really have time. Okay. Yeah

So just a big tease then yeah, June 7th. Where's where's potty man? Where's the bobblehead?

I'll be there in theory. We just might not have a extra sign even

But you'll have like a table and you'll get some people to buy tickets or to support you know

It's a good opportunity for people to to support the um the philanthropy. Yep. And again, it's a wonderful cause and

um

Inspired by Tyler's experiences as a survivor on the the christmas parade

tragedy and um

What started is taking duplicate or extra bobbleheads and giving them to

um

Families um is that 30 seconds or three minutes max. Sorry

Three minutes three minute. Okay. Thank you. Sorry

I'm still trying to get my cc legs here with max what max had max dwarfs me in terms of his experience and expertise and radio

Uh second generation. Yes. Yes. Yes. So anyway, um

Yeah, so what was inspired from the the parade tragedy is now

um

He's taking the experience to spread joy among children suffering from similar

tragedies

traumas and providing a little comfort and joy with that with a bobblehead

so

And those are fun. I remember uh

I'm showing my um age here. There was a serenade live artist named joe piscopo great very funny guy

Who actually retired from entertainment after serenade live and a couple movies really funny guy

But he used to do this thing on NBC when NBC would have the football and

Mornings

He would have the bobblehead sing and he'd do a little

Kind of news report banging on the bobbleheads, you know, each different player or coach and uh, you know

If you can find that on youtube by highly encourage it was very funny very entertaining, but uh you know bobbleheads have become um

They continue to be a big part of our pop culture and a fun type of thing

And uh, they're really for kids of all ages, right Tyler? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So

Do you get calls from people that if they have if there's an adult that

Again, it had suffered a similar trauma. Is it just specific to children? We like to keep it to the children

We have helped some older adults too as well, but okay

Our main mission is centered around those young kids that

Experience something that's so traumatic to their childhood. Okay, you know that they you want to get their mind off of it and help cheer them up

Sounds great. So we're gonna talk more about um

How bobbleheads keep us together works as we prepare for friend alive

some more from Jessica and music and um will be

Calling out the um the final two sons of the the 14 sons of Waksha killed in the Vietnam war

Um as well as a tribute I guess to all all those who lost their lives here in this week in Waksha

540 am 101.1 FM the Shah and uh don't forget to download the Civic Media app if you haven't already

Here we go

You

You

It's this week in Waksha in the song you're listening to is called toys planes and the hearth

It's uh

Chopin, Miseric, Opus

17 number four

And it was part of the soundtrack from the Steven Spielberg movie Empire of the Sun you ever see that

Tyler wonder what

Christian Bale

One of his first roles that was a young boy

Who's with a family of like British diplomats that are basically

I

Captured sees basically put in these internment camps in Japan

And he's um the young Christian Bale be friends um these American GIs one played by um

John Melchavik

Oh, okay, and the other guy uh Joel Pantoliano another great actor and um i just

Wonderful movie and the music's just incredible and i i was so many of those songs

I think you're very fitting for Memorial Day weekend

and uh especially that one

And um i want to kind of finish here

With the final two sons of Waksha

Um

Well the 14 sons killed in the world in Vietnam

So David Joseph Frischmann

David was born

Let's see here he was born on March 23rd, 1944

And then David was killed in the Twattian

Province on February 1st of 1967

And David um was a member of our marine corps. So quite a few marines

From Waksha that were part of our 14 sons and the final name is William Stephen Heiter

And William was born on September 9th, 1942

And um also killed in the Twattian province

August 16th, 1969

And William was a member of our um our army

Again, um William Stephen Heiter

And

Give you all the 14 names again as we remember them finally in our hearts and for those that maybe just tuning in or we're listening earlier

The 14 sons of Waksha

That we keep in our hearts this weekend

And and always our Walter Clay Booth

Donald Glenn um dengelden

Otto Robert Enslyn

Fred Anderson Fetter

James Peter Harto

Dennis Lee McCormick

John D. Morris

John Robert Poff

Lawrence Edward Schmitt

Cornelius A. Van der Stern

Robert Lee Whedon

Irrin Lee Wood

David Joseph Frischmann

And William Stephen Heiter

And you'll notice the last two names are out of alphabetical order and that's because um

At one time there are the only two

Of those 14 sons that we had photos of

Now thanks to a great effort. We have all 14 photos

So that

All of these 14 sons can be remembered finally

And as it should be to them and to all the men and women we lost in service to our country during war

I was at the

City Hall Waksha City Hall

So I'll Sean Riley Mayor Sean Riley in the parking lot. He was kind enough to say hi to me and uh

uh

Point me out and all that and um, but I yet uh has checking on our black party

Permit for my son's graduation

And take care of some other business

But as I was coming out I saw the police memorial honoring those uh, well, it's police and fire but

It was a great little quote in here. I think that I think it's fitting for our veterans

The author's name is Robert Longley. It says

Time to come home to your friend your tour of duty through

You've given as much as anyone could be expected to do

Just a few steps further the smoke will start to clear

Others here will guide you you have no need to fear

You have not failed your community your country

You clearly gave it all

And through your selfless actions others will hear the call

So take your place of honor

Among those who have gone before

And know you will be remembered for now and evermore

And so in that spirit. I'm I'm wishing all of you were a thoughtful and heart-felt

Um, Memorial Day weekend and

returning with my guest Tyler Pudliner

and

Jessica says nasky so Tyler funds raised for

Bobbleheads go basically to purchasing more Bobbleheads correct. Yeah, that's meant to we're looking to do some special events with the kids too

That could range to taking them to like an admiral's game or a brewer's game, you know

Okay, so expanding the services. I think that's really that's not and how many Bobbleheads would you say you have right now in your collection in my personal collection?

Well, let me know for what will be used to be donated

Oh, we have probably about 200 or stock five. Wow. Okay, so it's it's about finding kids too

um

And getting nominations for them

Okay, and they can and we accept all nominations on our website bobbleheads together dot com as I said

Sure

That's great. So how many do you have in your personal collection? It's over 500

Wow, okay

That's really neat. So and um

What is it you want people to know about your cause that we haven't talked about yet in our show?

I mean the main thing that we always want to focus on is just sharing that smile and bringing positivity to those

Children who go through such horrible situations, you know, those as you said earlier those horrible situations and X

Happened way too much nowadays. Sure sure

So to get their minds off of that and what they've been through and just to get them to have that one smile

It could change their whole philosophy on their recovery and things like that

Sounds great. Have you thought about if you would like this um to expand beyond

The state of Wisconsin. Yes. Yes. I've had big goals and dreams to expand it across the country

And one day be a bigger one kind of like a make-a-wish or you know something

Like that uh in our own right though, you know, it's it's not about necessarily

Keeping it that way, but to as it said broaden it out to where we do special things and give them their special

Moment it's it's not just sports related either. We've gifted to a couple

Young girls too who haven't has been had been into sports as much. They're more girly girls

If you want to say so we've done some more

Literary things like that and blankets and shirts like that to cheer them up as well

It's true. How about you Chesco? What is it we haven't

Covered with Jessica Lynn music that you want our listeners to know about um maybe just some ways to contact me

I I primarily don't do public shows

So if I am at a farmer's market or maybe in the future of Friday night live now that I know the contact information

I was chatting in here. Thank you Katie put liner um

You know if then that's your chance to hear me live and see what I'm all about, but otherwise I'm online

My website is Jessica Lynn music.com one in one in LYN they didn't spell the rest of my middle name

All right

Facebook.com slash Jessica Lynn music and I'm also on a website called gig salad if you truly want to book gig salad

Okay, gig salad.com and you can look up Jessica Lynn music through there

And there's a bunch of vendors like you type in what you're looking for, but I'm a vendor through there. All right

So Jessica says nasky of Jessica Lynn music Tyler Pudliner of Bobbleheads bring us together

Thank you for joining us today. I'm wishing everyone a safe

Thoughtful memorable and enjoyable

Memorial Day weekend. Please remember safety is everyone's responsibility

Good mental health is also everyone's right here as we wind down mental health awareness month

See
