From Washington to Hollywood and right back to Wisconsin.
It's Night Light with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach.
Connecting the dots on the stories shaping our world with smart takes.
sharp humor, and plenty of personality.
You know, I really expected more professional behavior from you.
It's news and culture without the noise.
Yeah, I'm on!
Here's Pete Schwabba.
Dude.
And Greg Bach.
Dude!
Hey, welcome to Nightlight, everybody.
I am Pete Schwabba.
joined as always by my co-host Greg Bach with Dom Lee, working things out in many ways, online and off in Madison.
Dom was working through it.
Welcome to Nightlight.
This is a Wednesday night as we continue to... How's the weather there, you guys?
Are you both doing okay after last night?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We got a, we got a tornado warning at nine, like eight 50 something.
It lasted till nine 30.
It touched down in a couple of places.
Nothing around it was funny because the the tornado warning was specifically for my area of the county in northeastern Kenosha where I live and I was like, oh boy Okay, I better go look for our home insurance policies right now because who knows but Everything was fine.
We sat in the basement.
The dog was a little she was she wasn't nervous.
She was just like, why are we down here?
Like it's fun.
I'm done.
Can I go back upstairs now?
So she went like to the top of this, the basement stairs and just kind of like sat on a step waiting.
Like you got some time here.
So we're just going to keep watching the Lincoln lawyer.
But, um, yeah, it was, we were good.
It was a lot of lightning, a lot of thunder, a lot of rain, but no damage from any hail, no wind damages in the neighborhood.
So we're good.
And right now it's what, uh, 60 something degrees outside.
So it's nice.
It's, it's fine.
Man,
I'll take that we were at 48 today and overcast but no crazy hail or anything It's funny like it was always like when you had to go to the basement as a kid It was a little scary, but my son lives on the north side of Milwaukee He had to go to his basement and he has one of those old apartment buildings And you go into the foyer and the lights in the basement are always on it's like a dungeon basement Where the laundry stuff is.
Oh, yeah, it's like a six unit building.
He had to go down there by himself
and just hang out for an hour in this horrible thing where you're down there and it's just like you get the sense that something bad has happened down there and he's stuck down there by himself last night during
out
I like that.
We do have a great show tonight.
Logan Rogi will be here from Travel Wisconsin.
Logan is always fun.
Those of you who listen to Nightlight have heard Logan before.
He's a fun, engaging interview and informative.
If you're looking for something to do this spring, you'll want to hear our interview with Logan because he has all the 411 on what's happening, on what's the haps in Wisconsin this spring.
See how
will take another one of Dom's quizzes in the second hour and it pertains to the state of Wisconsin Inspire I'm sorry in the first hour.
We'll do that.
Yeah, because Logan will be here We'll set the table with some Wisconsin quiz talk for Logan's arrival in hour number two and Should we we've got some contest information coming
Yes, in the second hour today is the final day of the be an MKE VIP your chance to win an all access pass to the MKE film festival that is coming up tonight.
The final keyword will be coming in the second hour.
So keep it locked here, get ready to text that word in.
And then one lucky winner this week will receive an all access pass to get access to get into any movie, even the sold out ones.
So
you want to text that in that'll be coming up in the second hour and then the the the the fest begins tomorrow goes until the 30th if you have any inclination of going if you live in the area mkefilm.org for more information for lineups and i think you said pete if you win that all access pass that's like a six hundred dollar value
But really, even if you only managed to go see two to five films over two weeks, it's just a great value.
And like Greg said, you can get into stuff even when it's sold out.
Membership has its privileges.
So good luck in the contest.
We'll give you more information about that in hour two.
I had a really weird day today, you guys.
I had a, it was kind of chilly here.
So I had the gas fireplace going and I was being lazy.
I just sat on my phone.
for like an hour.
And I'm like, this is kind of old school.
I'm like sitting by the fire, but on social media, it's like, yeah, I don't know what generation I belong in, you know, it was relaxing.
But then because how shows that go a long time go
eventually he probably said something in effect of I'm tired of playing this character all the time.
So then science prevailed in this program and he was able to get into a machine that turned, basically it was a, basically a nutty professor situation where it said like he was Steve Urkel nerdy, you know, like talk like this.
And then he gets in this machine that turns him into Stefan Urkel, who is a smooth talking, beautiful man who like, Laura dislikes Steve Urkel a lot, but Steven Urkel, oh my goodness gracious, because she can't see past Urkel's
Charm, she can't see what a great guy Steve Urkel is.
All I can think of right now is I am glad that it's not our nightlight movie club showing tomorrow night.
Cause I would be totally lost.
It was also be a TV show.
That'd be weird.
That would be even weirder.
Hey, which reminds us folks, tomorrow night, uh, for nightlight movie club in the second hour, we will be talking about this week's popcorn pick of the week.
I guess you'd say Greg, you want to tell them what it is?
It's the Rob Reiner classic when Harry Met Sally starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan and Carrie Fisher and Rob Reiner and Rob Reiner's mother and a whole host of other people will be talking about that movie tomorrow in the second hour as we do every single week on the Nightlight Movie Club.
So watch it and then feel free to participate.
You'll be able to call or text and let us know.
Love to hear your thoughts on this absolute classic.
I would, I mean, when we were looking it up, it said something the effective was like number 13 on top 20.
I'm like, I feel like...
When Harry and Sally is like a top five at the very least.
Absolutely.
And if you have ever thought on a movie that we should watch,
email us nightlight at civicmedia.us.
You can also email us if you know, your thoughts on the show, if there's a guest you think we should be talking about, a topic, that kind of thing, but nightlight at civicmedia.us for all your needs if you want to contact us via the good old fashioned electronic mail.
Let's talk about the question.
Question.
Question.
Pregunta.
Question.
Question.
Okay, I have a question.
Questions.
This question.
Domanda.
Question.
Question.
Questions.
All right, Pete.
It's not really I want to say it's heating up, but it's really not the Democrats the Democrats vine for Wisconsin governor We're at a forum this this week earlier on Mondays.
This is in WPR Wisconsin public radio and the reason why I wanted to talk about this They nobody said anything super controversial or super out there But we had just came out of a spring election and according to this article and it makes sense But the newest Marquette polls said that people are completely undecided and not really tuned into this race
yet,
It's coming before you know it.
So we want to make sure people are understanding.
So I really, you know, especially for tonight's stories, civicmedia.us slash shows, you can find this article in WPR.
They were talking mainly about, uh, they were talking about data centers and climate accountability and climate accountability, specifically pertaining to data centers as well.
All seven democratic candidates were at this forum.
It was, it was, if I'm not mistaken, it was an electronic forum or, uh, I don't know how you
pronounced that or but yet.
Virtual.
Thank you.
There it is.
That was the word I was trying to think of.
But, you know, they were all given 90 seconds to talk about topics and a lot of things they were talking about had to do with climate change, which is no surprise that many of them are in favor of much stricter climate change legislation that helps protect Wisconsin.
It's conservation efforts.
The fact that we are Wisconsin, we believe in our beautiful land and we should protect it.
A lot of throwing around of quote, a green new deal, not the, but a green new deal for
public schools and making sure that retrofitting buildings was easier and lower, to help lower utility costs.
But then they also went on to talk about data centers and how we need to be doing way more for data, for the community.
Yeah.
When it comes to data, so in as much as to like pause all data center construction and any consideration until more work, more legislation and more information has been put.
forth so they can make sure that these companies are paying their fair share, that the communities aren't getting hit hard with utility costs.
And a big thing that Robin Voss is against is having these companies use...
being environmentally sustainable in their ability to gain energy.
So this one was very interesting.
Again, not super crazy out there.
No one did anything weird or said anything outrageous, but we do have an election this fall.
We have an election November for a new governor.
This is an open seat and we need to start keeping our eyes and ears open now.
So I would look into this story and just keep yourself, you know, a prize of what's going on with this election.
Cause there are seven people running on the, on the left.
And so far, only one guy running on the right.
And no
Folks, don't go anywhere.
What is your favorite musical film?
That's tonight's question of the night.
Let us know and don't go anywhere.
We are coming right back.
We've got much more to discuss and a quiz at 535.
This is Pete and Greg and Nightlight on the Civic Media Lab.
Is anyone else starting to really like him?
He is back at it again.
There was an AI picture.
I saw this on NBC News, a picture of Trump and Jesus.
And I couldn't tell which one was the doctor or the Red Cross worker, but it's basically Jesus comforting Trump.
And Trump posted it.
Who is he doing this, Greg?
Does he know how to use AI?
like,
It's like, oh, no, I gotta tweet for this guy now.
This could be a sentence.
This could be 40 paragraphs.
But yeah, he's trying to suck up and bring back all those people who are quite upset about him being AI'd as a, quote, doctor, working for the Red Cross, unquote.
So, yeah.
And this is a day after another image that was shared on social media, the one where he said he was a doctor, but he was really obviously trying to be Jesus.
So,
I don't know, will it work?
Greg, that's the question.
I mean, people are starting to see through him, especially religious people, which they probably should have a long time ago.
But is this going to get him back in good graces with the
If they have something tied to Trump, they will.
They don't.
I mean, there's no real allegiance to anything.
If they want clout, money, privilege, power, they're going to do whatever.
And they're going to forgive him.
And they're going to say he has worked towards his, he's worked.
He's worked on his relationship with God and we believe that he is once again, the proper, you know, vessel for our broken message.
And the broken messages don't expose people in the Epstein file.
Don't talk about the big bill for billionaires.
And even in here, it says like on the, what's funny is that the, the original post that was put on, on Twitter.
Some person, I'm not even gonna say their name, it says, I was never a very, this is the person, not Trump saying this.
I was
never
And then Trump wrote too, the radical left lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice.
Like what is he's normally I don't like doing that, but I didn't want to have anybody be confused Trump said when asked why he took down the photo the previous photo of him as a quote doctor and quote people were confused I'm confused more so lately with everything he says almost it's
And we as a society let him do this the news the people everybody we just because we thought it was and and it just become commonplace and and not acceptable but
It's a thing where people shrug their shoulders and say, what are you going to do?
It's Trump.
And that's not a good enough answer.
I mean, the radical left lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice.
That sentence holds so much emotion on varying scales.
The radical left lunatics might not like this, but I think it's quite nice.
There's an instability even in one sentence.
It's ridiculous.
But people who were concerned then who don't actually care about faith will be fine with this.
The folks who spoke out wanted attention, and he did something for them.
There's a picture of him in Jesus, white Jesus, however you want to place it.
It's a weird picture too, by the way.
They look very close.
It's a white Jesus, and that's factually inaccurate.
But it's just absolutely ridiculous here.
And it's such a weird thing of like, well, I know what will work.
I'll post a picture of me with Jesus, or maybe it's a long hair doctor from the Red Cross.
I don't know.
He hasn't said.
A jury found in an antitrust trial trial against live nation whose subsidiary is ticket master.
They found out they delivered a verdict that they legally maintain monopoly power.
in the ticket market.
This is still a developing story.
Nothing has been, just the decision has been released.
There has been no compensation, no deal, but this was a, this was a case between 34 attorneys general and ticket master or live nation who owns ticket master.
There was a deal brought forth and settled in March against the DOJ, but this, that
deal actually kind of pushed the states to say, we need to do more.
We need to actually hold this company accountable.
And honestly, in today's day and age, the fact that an antitrust trial not only went through, but the company was found to be liable is mind blowing to me.
Again, we'll put this in the, this is a longer article.
This will be in the show notes.
Check this out because again, I think this is inspiring that if we can do this now, that means there's, there's maybe hope for other businesses coming under fire
for the stuff they're doing.
word on
This is going to be fun folks.
It's Wisconsin based play along.
This is nightlife with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bogg.
We will be right back.
Welcome back.
Tom, never disappoints.
Nope.
Great tune.
But was that Dylan?
It was.
Yeah, that's Dylan.
When he actually had a voice.
I gotta
Fun fact about that song, it inspired Sam Cook to write a change is going to come because he heard that song and he said, I should have written that song.
Oh, no way.
That's awesome.
And that song was released after he passed away, unfortunately.
And it told us where that mind could have gone with his songwriting, because Sam Cooke is one of the greatest singers of all time.
He's fantastic.
Yeah, absolutely.
And
he

Pete, you don't, you would never be, you would be a terrible tyrant cause you'd be like,
Build me that house or it's fine.
You don't have to if you don't want to it's like you're very understanding and kind and nice and I'm very Cranky and irascible and hot-headed sometimes.
I'm a nice person, but I just have sometimes I'm just like a crank pan so and dumb I Don't know about dumb.
That's why I'm a sleeper
I'm a sleeper choice.
That's exactly.
I feel like the obvious choice wouldn't be me, but the sleeper choice, of course, would be Dom.
Yeah.
All right.
I mean, look at us here now.
We're just answering this question, dancing like a bunch of puppets.
Like, yes, sir, tell me more about how I'm smart about Wisconsin.
Speaking of that, we're taking a quiz right now about Wisconsin.
Put together by Dom Lee, the man who will be running all of our lives soon.
Yeah.
True.
Great butter.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Maybe if it's like solid, like frozen butter, you grate it and then like you, I don't know.
People are weird nowadays.
I've watched the internet.
I roll my corn in the cob on the top of the butter.
Oh, yeah.
I put lime juice on mine.
I don't have a mess with mess with them.
Not in lieu of or in lieu of butter or in lieu of butter only.

Someone
So, no.
Well, that was fun.
I like, I always love these quizzes.
They're really, really fun.
They're really good time.
Thank you so much.
Would you have guessed, would you have guessed Tombstone if I hadn't suggested the strategy there?
Tombstone was my first guess, but as, as I started to think about it more, I was like, but Red Baron like, I don't remember eating that as a kid and I felt like that was a Wisconsin thing.
But yeah, so I'm glad I.
went with it.
And yeah, I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to play defense there.
But I also wanted to, you know, I wanted to, I didn't want to just say because you said it.
So we're good.
It's good.
Good stuff there.
