Mike Clemens on the Bucks & Brewers (Hour 1)
Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba and Greg Bach · Mon Apr 13, 2026
From Washington to Hollywood and right back to Wisconsin.
It's Night Light with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach.
Connecting the dots on the stories shaping our world with smart takes, sharp humor, and plenty of personality.
You know, I really expected more professional behavior from you.
It's news and culture without the noise.
Yeah, come on!
Here's Pete Schwabba.
Dude.
And Greg Bach.
Dude!
Hey, hey, Wisconsin.
Welcome to Nightlight, everybody.
I am Pete Schwabos sitting upstate from Greg Bach and Dom Lee.
We will tell you where those guys are in just a moment, but we've got Greg is adjusting his camera for those
of you that are watching
on the stream.
You can't fix perfection, Greg.
It was a great angle.
We have an absolutely fantastic show for you guys tonight.
Happy Monday, everybody.
Wherever you're joining us from in the great state of Wisconsin, it is great to have you.
And we hope to ease you into your evening.
And if you're in the car right now, we hope to make that drive feel a little more relaxed.
Right, Greg?
Was that an accurate description of tonight's show?
Yes.
Perfect.
That is Greg.
He is coming to you
live from radio park in Racine and, uh, Dom Lee working the board in Madison.
Dom, do you miss me?
I was there Thursday and Friday.
It was great to hang in Madison with you a little bit.
Um, what's, is there, is there a, the kind of depression and a.
can only happen when like a Schwabba leaves the room.
Yeah, as
soon as you left, I was like,
oh
man, my night was from an eight from out of 10 to now a five out of 10.
I was getting really sad.
So I'm
feeling it
too, buddy.
It's not just Schwabba, it's Domly.
When there's no Domly in the prep.
Schwabba
leaves a room.
I'm gonna remember that.
You'll know the feeling Greg, when we ever, when we get together and hang and do like a fun way to see a
Schwabba leave the room then.
All right.
Awesome.
Hey, that was a
day to talk to.
I'm just, I'm just writing things down.
I'm just taking notes, buddy.
For therapy later legal pad, you pull out whenever you're shuffling through something, we get those sound effects.
It's old timey
radio.
Like, Oh no, he's walking down the hallway.
Here he
comes.
That was fun though last week guys it was two
of
us are together I know we'll get together the three of us and do a show for Madison at some point that'll be
fun, but
Tom you were
Headed to Chicago when I last talked to you.
Headed home for a big event.
Tell us about this really cool thing you did on behalf of your
papa.
Well, I'd
love to hear more.
Okay, Greg, this is sarcastic.
Greg's coming at you.
Guns of laser.
What's going on?
Okay, I'll tell you a little bit about it.
It was my dad's 50th birthday a week prior and we threw him a surprise party and it was great.
It worked out well.
I got the ice.
in charge of ice, and that was it.
Just ice.
But it worked out really well.
He had no idea, and it was really fun.
It was a really fun time.
Two things.
I love the fact that I am a mere less than two years younger than your father.
That's interesting.
But also, Dom, you had an interesting conversation with your mother.
About the show.
Oh, yes, and about me.
Yes.
Yes.
And if my mom is listening, I'm sorry mom.
Yeah, Caroline.
Yeah, Caroline.
We it turns out that she's not a big fan of Phil Collins and obviously Greg is the number one fan of Phil Collins and she was just like, yeah, I don't know about I don't know about his favorite, you know artists and I was like, oh, okay.
All right.
I'm not gonna tell him and then about an hour ago.
And then you told me.
Where is Greg?
number.
Yeah.
I
mean, it's like, I just feels hurtful.
You know, I thought we thought, I thought there was a rapport here.
And I guess I was wrong.
I've
got a couple thoughts now.
I think is that, Dom, is that your mom's way of like, it's just, first of all, Greg, you might be overreacting.
A lot of people say that they don't like Springsteen.
And that's my guy.
And I'm like, all right, whatever, you're taking this very personally.
Which is kind of sweet
actually.
I think
it's because it's Dom.
It's the Dom mom.
It's the Dom mom who like I felt like was with us and then all of a sudden she's like I don't understand Greg's choices.
We're going to
see in the text line her saying sorry in a bit.
The other thing is Dom, I don't know where that puts you in the pecking order of responsibility for family obligations, but you were in charge of ice?
Yeah.
Oh, it was difficult.
There was so many people.
So I had to get more ice.
I had to go back to 7 11.
It was, it was a really big task and I was very proud to drive a car.
Oh my God.
I had to go pick up a bunch of frozen water.
Oh my goodness gracious.
What am I ever to
do?
You're not making the lasagna.
They're making you go get
the ice.
What are you in charge of?
The napkins.
Oh my gosh.
Our good friend Todd on the live stream says his dad is only 50.
OMG.
Do I feel old?
Yep.
That's how I feel too right now.
I'm even older than that.
So look, age is a state of mind and it's
your actual chronological life.
So it's pretty depressing.
However, Dom was at a phone bar.
It was not helpful Pete at all.
I started to try to make us feel better and then I just bailed.
It is what it is, but was your dad surprised?
He was very surprised.
He actually umpires.
So he was gone for like two hours and it was a perfect opportunity.
We got everyone there and people came on time and it was just perfect.
He walked in
and he was
just...
He was really happy about it, so it was good.
It was
nice to see my dad.
Were the baseball metaphors a-flying?
Yes, absolutely.
Yes, that's exactly me.
I want to make so many baseball jokes right now, but I know that would be kind of lame.
Was the party a home run?
The party was a home run.
Wow, okay.
Did your dad arrive safe at home, or was he just a bit outside?
Oh, my God.
Damn.
All right, you know what, Tom?
That's not enough.
I can't.
All right, that was deserved.
You get one, you get one rim shot per show.
Hey, we got a great show tonight, Greg.
We've got a couple of civic media all stars here tonight.
We've got Mike Clemens is going to join us at 535.
There is so much, I did not realize how much is going on in the world of Wisconsin sports until.
He, until Mike reached out today.
So
we
got, we're going to talk a little bit about Chris McIntosh, uh, stepping down in Madison as the athletic director.
The brewers are on a skid, which I'm sure Greg is totally bummed out about as our all brewer fans, uh, the bucks, let dock rivers go.
Um, and the Packers have a big event coming up too.
So we'll break all of that down with our civic media sports authority, Mike Clemens.
And then in hour two, our pal, Dan Schaefer will be here, the founder of the recombobulation area award-winning.
recon population area.
And my fellow wire fan, you can, you can get into that with him, Greg.
Well, I think we're going
to be talking more about the
bucks.
We'll be talking to more about the bucks today with Dan too, because he is
a
huge bucks fan.
And we've had conversations about this man, Doc Rivers, who will soon be the former coach of the bucks.
I'd love to hear Dan's take on that in the second hour as well.
Guess what, everybody?
It's time for yet another.
to win contest for the Milwaukee Film Festival this this hour in the second hour will be once again doing the win your way into the 2026 Milwaukee Film Festival.
It's a text to win contest this week.
It's only three days this week, but the Milwaukee Film Festival kicks off on Thursday, and there are so many great films, and this is your opportunity to win an all access pass.
One all access pass will be given out this week.
There will be a keyword in the second hour You will have the opportunity to to enter to win that all access pass so stick around and also really quick here Brett on the text line says hey guys.
I won the film festival tickets.
Thanks.
I appreciate it.
Oh He's good.
He's actually said he's actually sending us some some behind-the-scenes stuff here, but Brett did wait
Brett from Brown Deer did win the tickets.
He's listening to us on WAUK.
We'll get in touch with you, Brett, and let you know more about that.
Get that straightened away so you can get your tickets.
But congratulations to Brett, and possibly congratulations to you if you text a win in the second hour with the keyword for the Win Your Way into the Milwaukee Film Festival Contest.
Lude luck ahead of time.
Yeah, that is a like 600 plus dollar value.
That's a huge two week festival.
And they've got and check in here all week, folks.
We've got a couple of guests on from that are going to discuss the festival this week, including Susan Kern tomorrow.
And we'll be talking about it all week.
So it's a two week festival outstanding.
I just came from the Wisconsin Film Festival and had an absolute blast.
I'm I want to say I'm festival out, but I'm not like you look at the Milwaukee offerings and they're just incredible.
So that's going to be fun talking about that all week, too.
And definitely listen in.
our number two for those, for the
keyword, Greg.
Yes, it'll be a
keyword.
It'll be a keyword and it's only three day contest.
So today, tomorrow and Wednesday because the film festival starts on Thursday.
Thursday.
All right.
I think without further ado, Mr. Damley, we should get to our question of the night.
Let's talk about the question.
Okay, question.
Question.
Question.
Pregunta.
Question.
Question.
Okay, I have a question.
Questions.
This question.
Domanda.
Question.
Question.
It is National, folks, National Scrabble Day, which begs the question.
Greg, it was between what is your favorite scrabble word
or what's
your favorite board game?
I went, what is your favorite board game?
But you're welcome to share fun scrabble words.
You've come up with two over the years, folks, but that is our question of the night.
What is your favorite board game?
There are
so
many that can, uh, can induce arguments between family, which is always fun.
And, uh, some that are just a ripper on good time.
Yeah, let's see.
eight, five, five, seven, five, two, four, eight, four, two, eight, five, five, seven, five civic.
Let us know where you can text us or drop us a stream comment.
If you're watching the radio on YouTube, Facebook or X Twitter.
So there you go.
There you go.
All right.
We're, I feel like we've gotten all of the
stuff to care of all the, all the
business.
We should get to the, we should get to the news, the top three stories of the day.
The first big story.
So if you don't already know the president of the United States decided to post a very interesting picture of himself on his true social social media platform of social meeting This it was a picture of him.
I mean, I don't know how he thought otherwise But it's a picture of him basically looking like Jesus Christ healing someone who is sick in bed and People were unhappy and it's not the people you think it was it was actually a lot of
conservatives, Catholics, Christians, Trump supporters, unhappy about this post.
And I don't know, Pete, what version of this picture do you think he looked at where he said, well, it's me being a doctor, like with the Red Cross, right?
That's what I thought it was.
So for me, Greg, here's the thing.
I think a doctor is more likely to have a comb over than Jesus.
But that's ridiculous.
What irritates me is what I find so shocking is that this is what put many conservatives over the top.
He's been blasphemous since he's been in office even the first time with the Bible and this and that.
What now?
It's got to be all this other fatigue that they finally have a reason to say, okay, this is too far.
He posted a picture of himself many other times.
He posted a picture of himself last year dressed as the Pope.
like an AI image and for those who haven't seen it the AP does a great job of describing it says the image posted by the president Sunday night this is last night show Trump wearing a biblical style robe and laying hands on a bedridden man as light emanates from his fingers in both hands by the way while a soldier a nurse praying woman and a bearded man in a baseball cap all look on in my link we're not done yet the sky above is filled with eagles an american flag and vaporous images um
Yet he thought he was a picture of him working for the Red Cross.
But he didn't.
No, of course he didn't.
No, he's a liar.
Right.
And you're saying this guy, oh, he's got conviction in all this.
If he really did, he should say, yes, I feel like I'm very much like Jesus.
If you have stones, that's what you say.
You don't pull it and say, oh, I meant to be a doctor.
No doctor.
I've ever seen where it's flowing robes.
And it's just insanity.
And I think people are finally even.
The diehard mag is I think
they're
very they are
very very upset about this and I mean like we've in a in a Washington Post article that we will also put in the show notes Megan Basham Megan Basham was upset.
She is a prominent conservative Protestant Christian writer and commentator and then there was another gentleman Michael Brown as well.
He's a Catholic conservative commentator also very upset about this and
He decided to sling rocks at the Pope too about this and we can maybe get to it on the other side of the break But he got into a little mini fight with the Pope and the Pope basically says I'm not afraid of the Trump administration I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing.
Well, that's something new.
Yeah, I love that
We'll break all of that down coming up next, folks.
Don't go anywhere.
It's a very short break.
Pete and Greg are here.
We are not Jesus.
We are not even close.
We're just a couple of guys talking about three things.
There's more coming up next on nightlight with beach wabba and Greg Bach on the civic media network.
Welcome back.
This is Nightlight with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach coming to you on the Civic Media Network.
Great to have you with us on this Monday.
Mike Clemens is coming up after the news of sports and weather.
He's going to break down all of the stuff that is happening here with our Wisconsin sports teams.
But right now, Greg and I are breaking down some news stories.
Just when you think things can't get more preposterous.
Yeah, they do and it's yeah, so let's just jump back and we were on story number one I think we had to put a button on that Greg before we moved on and we were talking about the Pope and the President calling the Pope weak on crime
Yes, he said he did he did say that in fact The Pope isn't happy about the president's direction on Iran.
He feels that what the president's doing is not You know, it's not Christian.
It's not based in the
the gospel, it's not peace and love and things of that nature.
President Trump had thoughts on that.
He said something to the effect of, yes, he is weak on crime.
That's what the president said about the Pope.
He's also, the Pope has not put forth one infrastructure bill either, which I-
No, I'm really disappointed in this.
Where is he on pork barrel spending?
I really would love to know.
He's the, I mean, this is like, this was, it was a Sunday, a Sunday full of postings for the president.
But he said, quote, I don't want to pope who I'm going to, I'm not going to do the impression.
I don't do a good Trump.
I don't want to pope who criticizes the president of the United States because I'm doing exactly what I was elected.
all caps in a landslide to do, unquote.
He then went on to say that the only reason why Leo was elected Pontiff was, quote, because he was an American and they thought that he would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump.
And that's not the end of it, but that's where I have to end it because I just know here.
Actually, I'll tell you that, quote, I don't think he's doing a very good job.
He likes crime.
I guess he's a very liberal person.
You know, this is actually I have one more thing to add to this is brilliant branding that what the Pope is doing for the Catholic Church He's showing leadership whether you agree with Catholics or not or the Pope or not I happen to the church is not as progressive as I am but
this
Pope is a step in the right direction I believe in the fact that he's standing up to war
is exactly what you think someone who follows the Prince of Peace should do.
So I think it's something that could galvanize Catholics and give them a sense of purpose again, rather than just being, well, not told who to vote for in every case, but being led a certain way.
This is just the purpose against the war, basically.
And
I find no problem with that.
He should be.
The Pope
is weak on crimes.
It's really fun.
And I go back to the point that the Pope may, he says, I'm not afraid of the Trump administration.
And I really appreciate it because those are important words to say out loud.
Regardless, you know, there are a lot of conversations you can have about the Pope, the role of Pope, the Catholic church, you know, but someone like that who
Outwardly criticizes the president and says, I'm not afraid of you.
I think we need more of that and hopefully there are more people out there who get who get the guts to do so, but yeah,
that's there you go.
Well, she wasn't so weak on crime.
All right.
Number two, Mr. Domley, the second big story.
Greg, are you a gambler?
No, I
mean, but.
Maybe we should
it depends on where I'm eating a buffet.
That's sometimes that's a gamble Like that's that's a gamble, but I can't really go to like poly market or Kalsh Kalsh Kalsh I'm not a gambling person.
I just I love my money and I love my money staying in my pocket I don't have a lot of it So I don't know why I would willfully just say hey computer.
Here's some of my money You keep it, but in Wisconsin
It's become a thing now because Governor Evers signs Wisconsin online sports betting into law.
Woo.
This is what we needed, folks, not education or childcare.
We need online gambling.
Yeah,
I don't.
It's Assembly Bill 601 and it allocates the gambling options to all the tribes
in
Wisconsin equally.
I guess there is some money put aside for.
gambling addiction, which I didn't
know
this.
And I don't mean to focus on this because I know a lot of my friends like to gamble.
I don't.
I'm just, I don't think I'd be very good at it.
And I don't have the money to do it.
But the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling estimates that between 300,000 and 350,000 people in the state have a gambling problem.
That's a substantial amount of our population.
And it's become even easier now when you put that ability on your phone.
Right.
You know, you put it on your phone.
They're like, I was joking about before you got, but you've got DraftKings.
You've got FanDuel.
You've got Kelsey.
You've got Polymarket.
You've got OTC betting.
You've got, you've got cause tribal casinos.
They're trying to build another one in, in Kenosha right now, a hard rock, which the mayor of Milwaukee is against because, you know, Potawatomi said, Hey, be against this or you don't get more money.
And he's like, okay.
But I, you know,
It says here in the story on 27 WKOW.com says the bill had bipartisan support and the support of a federally recognized tribes of Wisconsin.
The tribe sent the governor a letter on Wednesday encouraging him to sign this into law.
Supporters say it will establish necessary regulations to protect people.
Okay.
But as we mentioned, FanDuel and DraftKings were against this.
They did not like this.
They did not like this probably because now there's other places people can bet.
Follow the money, baby.
Let's try to squeeze in our third big story because we got to go to a break soon.
Yeah.
The third big story.
Greg, I love this.
Alan Richardson makes the papers, makes the papers, makes the news for all the right reasons.
He's on a couple hit shows.
He's been in great movies.
He kicked his neighbor's butt, who was threatening him a few weeks ago.
And now he is a part of a new Netflix show that's going to lead survivalist group.
It's a competition reality show.
And when I was reading about that, it said that he was the last time he was on a reality show was American Idol where he sang Paula Abdul as a much thinner man.
Please
elaborate.
It's a very weird video.
He's very, he's a very, he's a very silly, weird boy, even though he's like bigger than me in all way shapes and forms.
And if you watch the video, go to look it up.
Alan Richardson, American Idol.
It's hilarious.
And he sings directly.
to Paul Abdul.
So you are the sunshine of my life on his knees.
Yes,
it's
beautiful.
Give
it a Google, folks.
We're coming right back after the news with Mr. Mike Clemens.
This is Pete and Greg on Civic Media.
Love that song.
Hey, welcome back to nightlight.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am Pete Schwab is sitting upstate from Greg Bach, who is coming to you from what to do with that wave that Greg is doing right now.
And, uh, Dom Lee, who is in Madison, we are, uh, the yotter hay triangle here and finally back.
Yeah.
Talking about all things, uh, current events this hour.
And now we're going to shift it to some sports because we have one of our good pals here today.
He is, uh, covers civic media.
He covers sports or civic media like a maniac.
He is our Civic Media
Sports
Authority and, uh, our pal, Mr. Mike Clements.
Hey, Mike, how are you?
Hi, Pete.
Hi, Greg.
How are you guys?
Doing well.
How are you today, sir?
Better now.
Keep it busy.
Of course.
It's
gonna be 24 hours.
Well, it's always busy for you.
You're always traveling all over the country.
You're everywhere, all the places, all at once, all the ways.
now chasing the teams uh... we had that little blizzard come through about a month ago that they're kind of screw things up a little bit but uh... that now you know uh... uh... you know we got uh... we were watching for this to happen that uh... dock rivers would be stepping down as the head coach of the box after two and a half years we and i saw one headlight that he was fired as i i'm not sure that that's it i mean uh... a month ago steven a smith
The commentator and ESPN said, look for doctors to step down and retire at the end of this losing season for the Bucks, because a year of reports and drama about as Giannis won out, is he going to betray, does he want to go to the next year?
All those kinds of things, the injuries that they've had, going back to the Damien Lillard, Torna Killies and everything, and then
you know we started watching these games and like in the last month you would watch like the fourth quarter of the game whether on the road or here at home and one day one of the beat guys said hey you know we like when you guys huddle in the fourth quarter it looks like your assistant darvin ham it's kind of out there running the place goes yeah yeah because you know why he's an NBA head coach and I want the world to see that you know we played that clip you know in our sports updates
Yeah.
So he's basically saying, I'd like to see this guy, you know, considered for my job or somewhere else, you know, back in the NBA to get back to a head coaching job.
He'd been with the Lakers.
And then just a couple of weeks ago, we're just, we have these pregame press conferences with Doc and just kind of checking back and forth.
And, you know, he'd been inducted now into the, you know, he's got plans of summer and August.
He's going to be inducted into the basketball hall of fame there in Springfield, Mass.
And he said, you know, I got grandkids now, like seven, eight years old, and I'm missing, you know, grandpa day and stuff like that.
And I'm kind of looking forward to that.
So he's all but he's telling us.
So does that sound to you like you was fired?
Because I talked to him Friday night, last home game of the year.
First quarter was.
unbelievable.
I mean, they put up 38 points and in the last 10 games or so, they've been, you know, they've emptied the bench.
They're trying to assess this roster.
Guys don't get much playing time.
How do I click?
They've got this Cormac lion kid.
You know, 18 points in the first quarter, three point shot was going and they were playing the kind of offense that Doc Rivers has been trying to get this team to play really all year because he even said on record, look at the start of the season,
john horse the gmail i knew that uh... this wasn't that deep of a roster after losing game you know there in the other things they thought that kevin porter jr could replace that role as a shooter next to us he's been out the last month with a swollen knee that had to be scoped about a week ago so he's been shut down so they were in terms of the injuries had so many more obstacles again in the whole time that you know doctor's been a coach there and so i talked to him about this first period and he's also he just went into the speech listen to this
You'll hear me ask them about how they scored 38 points in the first quarter against the Nets in their win Friday night.
Doc, I wanted to ask toward the end of the first quarter, how good was the ball movement, the passing?
It was
beautiful.
It was unbelievable.
Yeah, it was beautiful.
I'm telling you, with this team, because we didn't, you know, for the most part this year have a lot of guard play.
But when we played that way, when the ball moves and just in people's hands for a second, we made some plays today around the horn, passing unselfish plays.
It's fun to watch if you're a fan, and it's fun to coach.
And so it was really good to see.
Guys, thank you, media, especially local media.
This is all that's really here.
I know I've been a pain in the ass at times.
But really, you guys, I've always respected all of you guys.
I've not, like always, handled you well at times because I'm always gonna be fiery.
And I was at times, but overall, you guys have been phenomenal.
I think you've covered me fairly, you've covered the team fairly, and that's all I can ever ask.
I do have a bite when I don't think things are fair, and the fact that I've not had that with you guys in the
two and a half years tells me all of you give me a fair shake and given our team a fair shake.
And that's really important.
You guys don't understand that maybe right now.
But when you get my old age, you will understand that.
And so I really appreciate all you thank you.
I mean,
It sounds like a guy who is on his way out.
It sounds like a guy who's like checked out and I mean a fiery dock rivers.
I'm Mike.
I've been listening to his post
game conferences for a while now.
And he never seemed fiery at all.
He always, in fact, there were times where I said to people like, it doesn't even sound like he cares whether they win or lose.
Like when they lost, they're like, yeah, I lost.
So what?
Like they're just, I never felt personally like there was a ton of passion behind Doc Rivers.
And I may be wrong.
I'm not the world's biggest basketball fan, but it just felt like, you know, this was another stop for him.
And now he's done and he's going to go play with his grandkids, which is great.
But I never took him as fiery.
Yeah.
Maybe he just wanted to overcompensate for that, you know, in certain interviews, one on one.
But I mean, he came over and shook my hand.
You know, he's been around a while, right?
Yeah, you know.
I mean, so, here's a guy who came in and thought, wouldn't it be great if I could finish my career?
Because he was actually a consultant for the team before they hired him to bring him in.
He'd also been, you know, on ESPN, too, as an analyst as well.
So with this Yana stuff going on and off and on and off, and even the player Bobby Porce saying about a month ago, I believe on a podcast, so down officially at his locker, saying, you know, this Yana stuff is really starting to wear on all of us.
And then it goes to the next level, Greg, in terms of, you know, somewhere, they came back from a road trip, three or four game road trip, and I'm down there, and all of a sudden the staff, like the people I deal with every day,
PR, some front office, they kind of walked around like zombies.
And I, and how are you, Mike?
Who are you people?
And I'm
good.
How
are you guys doing?
I realized, see, Peter Fagan, the president of the last 12 years, he's gone.
And you say, Hey, what about Brian, the new guy?
I haven't met him yet.
Okay.
I mean, so there could be major regime change going on.
What if Wes Eden's lease may hand it over to Jimmy Haslam?
And then he's already brought in a new president.
I've actually heard some pretty good things about Jimmy, who is the guy that's messed up the Cleveland Browns, and some of their trade moves over the years.
But whatever the case, we're looking for, is ownership going to change?
And then after that, are they going to stick with John Horst as a GM?
And then after that, you know, who are they going to hire as a coach?
And then any decent candidate for a coach coming from the outside, it's like, well, what's your roster going to look like?
Are you going to have Yanis or not?
And which is also why the owners then told John Horst, you will sit this guy, OK?
We don't want to see another blown Achilles.
I don't care if he wants to play with his two brothers.
And if he's recovered from the hyper extended knee, that guy's a commodity now.
And he's either going to resign and commit to stay here for another contract,
or he's property, and we're going to get the most value for him when we trade him.
But he's not going to go injured.
So that's why they sat him.
And that's where it's going to be a busy summer with the box.
That's the voice of Mike Clemens.
He's talking about Giannis there at the end.
He is our civic media sports authority joining us to talk about many Wisconsin sports stories, just to put a button on this mic.
That makes sense, because I was like,
They had a winning I think they were like 48 and 34 or 32 last year or whatever and then Yannis only played like 40 games this year So he can't really put all of that on dock rivers, but I do agree with Greg I never heard crazy passion in his voice since he's been here.
So great reporting my friend That's that's really
excellent and then and the number 36 out of 82 games Yannis was there 36 games this year That's how bad and of course the last couple he wanted to play
But they sat him down.
They shut him down.
Yeah.
Was I'll
go ahead, Greg.
I was going to say, was there tension?
Is there tension between Yanis and Doc Rivers?
I mean, again, like now that he is apparently on his way out, people are revitalizing the question.
OK, where is Yanis?
Is is he going to stay and maybe have a hand in like picking the new coach and telling what he wants in order to stay here to win, to possibly bring home another trophy?
I mean, like it kind of leaves the.
Unfortunately, the Bucks are looking for another head coach, but also it bring in when it's sandwiched with does Yanis stay.
Do you think Doc Rivers leaving gives Yanis more, more value as far as staying here now he can like maybe start a new or just does he want to get out?
No, I think that Yanis would love to stay in Milwaukee if they had a roster that they thought they were working around them.
They did not have that roster.
Then on top of that, they had the injuries.
And Yanis is like, this is wasting my time.
But whoever's going to be the Yannis's new head coach has got a lot to handle there because Yannis is a 14 year old kid who just wants to play every day.
And that's part of his problem.
He's 31 and he needs to act like a 31 year old player and not play for a nation last summer.
And then wonder why his calves were out halfway through the season.
That's great.
Yeah.
Mike, I know we have some other things we want to discuss.
Maybe we've got to do a break in about two and a half minutes.
You want to give us an update on Chris McIntosh, the.
Another person who stepped down as the athletic director of UW, and then maybe we could do some brewers talk after the break.
But what's going on in Madison?
Badgersextra.com, breaking the story last night about six or seven o'clock that the athletic director for Wisconsin Badgers, all those sports programs and over 20 programs, is leaving.
And he's taking a job, a new job being created at the Big Ten conference.
And so, you know, I'm texting about one buddy that's a former player and a part of the Lummi says, yeah, I'd heard something like this starting Friday.
I wasn't sure, but how about that?
And when you start to look at it today, it's like, all right, look at, you know, he's made some good hires like Mike Hastings, the head coach of the men's hockey team that got all the way to the finals of the frozen four.
So that was the last three years.
But you know, the Luke Fickle story as a head football coach has been, you know, up and down.
This NIL thing has been a whole new landscape in the last five years.
And he's going off to the conference.
It doesn't have to worry about this stuff.
At the same time, look at, I mean, his, his boss, the chancellor, Jennifer Nukin, she's taken a job with Columbia University.
I think they made that official today.
And then the board of regents fired the president of all the universities, Jay Rothman.
Do they know?
I mean, in other words, Chris McIntosh is looking at this.
I'm going to have a new chancellor and a new, you know, board of regents again.
You know, I'm out of here.
I don't know who my next boss is.
And it's
just
turbulent waters.
I think that's what's going on in Madison.
That's crazy because like as an alumni and a player, it seems like that's the dream job.
And what he's going to do for the conference seems so kind of vanilla.
But I guess if you're a climber, maybe he has more opportunity there.
And
the decision makers are done.
And I asked, well, Miss Barry Alvarez could get involved like, no, you know, very retired.
He's in Florida.
He's got tea times.
He's got.
Yeah.
All right, great stuff.
Mike Clemens is here folks, Civic Media Sports Authority and our pal.
And when we come back, I'm sure Greg is gonna pepper him with questions.
Get that baseball reference about
your
Milwaukee Brewers.
We're coming right back at Nightlight with Peach Waba and Greg Bach on the Civic
BDN.
That is understood, but even I didn't know I could pitch that good
All right, now you got me pumped up down sitting in my car all day little stones now I'm ready to go as the goal I don't know what I was doing before guys, but I'm with you know, all right This is a nightlight with peach wabba and Greg Bach.
We are talking to our pal Mike Clemens who does an outstanding job covering sports and he's been a busy guy this weekend Mike, I think you need a couple of assistants with all these stories going on right now Tell us what is going on with Greg's Milwaukee Brewers a five game stick
Yeah, and I mean that you know there was a whole thing last year where the bruise it never lost more than Three in a row now they've lost five in a row and that's the first time that's happened and it was a franchise I think in three years first time since they've lost a Series been swept by the Nationals since 2011 the Nationals came into town and they were kind of playing some Brewer ball you saw them very aggressive
on the base running couple times over the guy would get like caught in a pickle and get thrown out because the brewers infield is so
good
but you know the bats started going silent in the last week or so but the road trip that they had uh... out against the red sox and then coming home this weekend and you know at the end of the game last night pat murphy went back to just saying look man you know there's no jackson trio here right now at that fractured hand
And Andrew Vaughn, first baseman, another, you know, long ball hitter.
He's been out with a fracture in his hand.
So they'll be coming later.
In terms of the rotations, like, you know, leverage pitchers like Jared Koenig, a starter like Quinn Priester, Rob Z, they'll get some of these guys back.
So they've had a number of injuries.
And then, at the end of the game, you saw Christian Yellich,
exit after an at bat he's got a hamstring i don't know how bad it is because but he was going in for an MRI after yesterday's uh... lost to the to the and it looked like the national like the brewers going to come back jake bowers crushed one out to right field i thought
it was
going out and i thought about three feet short of all you know the warning track so they had the best the hits just weren't falling the right places yesterday
They just kept losing their leads and and blowing ties and like they only one game where they got like they got smoked the rest of them there were there were some decent hitting and some and there are runs coming and they just couldn't keep up and you know I'm watching a game where they're losing and then they come up to tie and then they just start losing again or the other night where it was three three and then boom I look at seven three like
it's like it feels like a systematic failure right now where it's not just the bats or the pitching, it's a combination of both.
And as you said, with early on injuries now, we're already looking at Christian Yelich with, you know, getting an MRI, we're looking, it just feels very off-putting that to start so strong and now we just boom, like kind of lose it all in the matter of a week.
Yeah, but you know at the end of the day you talked to the starter Brandon Woodruff Woody after the game yesterday's like you know it pumped the brakes now we're not the wheels aren't falling off here and Although yeah, okay.
It's not like we've lost five-year-old around here This is pretty normal baseball for April and for the kinds of things that are going on and you know We'll find ways to to circle around now They got a good team coming in tomorrow night was in the world series the Blue Jays, so they opened up a series against them
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at home before they have to go back out on the road.
To me, it's just a sense of they just weren't getting the breaks that they usually get because other than that, that infield is unbelievable in its defense.
You know, and Joey Ortiz, he had a chance to be the hero the other night.
And he grounded out.
He could have won the game, you know, and that's why he bats ninth.
But between him and what Bryce Terang does in second base, it's incredible what they, how good they are on defense.
Yeah, it's just, it sucks to watch them go from first place.
Now they are in fourth place and that's not fun, but.
But
they're only a game out of first to though.
You're right.
I mean,
well, I mean the standings.
I mean, it's like right now the standings are really weird because Cincinnati, St.
Louis and Milwaukee have the same record, but because of the percentages, they are in fourth place technically tied with the cards.
So it's just weird that like they could win one game and be in second place again, but it also just doesn't.
I don't like looking at fourth place.
Okay.
I had enough of that back in the day.
Thank you.
Mike, our guest is Mike Clemens, a civic media sports authority.
We've got about a minute, minute and a half left.
Can you tell us about this cool event coming up with your Green Bay Packers?
The tailgate tour is out there.
And what's big difference this year is it's not Mark Murphy doing a shaggy green.
Hey, everybody.
Hey, welcome, ladies and germs.
It's
a reference.
Ed
policy.
How I knew that he would like that.
It's Ed policy.
That's the emcee because he's the new president of the team.
But they're going to have some current players like Edger and Cooper.
It's going to be out there.
The great linebacker with some former players out there, like Desmond Bishop was a linebacker on the Super Bowl team.
And
Randall Cobb is going to be there too.
And James Jones.
And so they're going around.
They'll start off in Green Bay tomorrow morning.
And they're coming down to Racine County.
I'm going to chase them there at a couple of stops, non-pleasant.
Then they go across the state.
They're going to go to Dyer'sville to the field of dreams and before they make their way back next Saturday to Green Bay.
Oh,
that
sounds
like a blast.
That's
always a good time
for the weekend.
You saw that.
I saw that.
Yeah, the wide receiver.
But see, they got some draft picks out of it.
And Wicks has been a good receiver.
I think he's kind of hit his ceiling.
And the Eagles are trying to stock up at wide receiver.
And so Goody Kinsley with those picks he had to give away to get Micah Parsons, that huge deal with the Cowboys.
He's got a fifth round pick coming up in a couple of weeks and a sixth round pick next year.
And Wix got signed by 12 and a half million dollars in a one-year extension with Philly.
He was never going to get that money in Green
Bay.
So I think
it worked out for both teams,
really.
Holy cow.
That's kind of a genius move, actually.
Mike, I can't believe we got through.
When I got your text this morning, Mike, there's no way we're going to cover all this, but we did.
Solid stuff, man.
Thank you so much.
Professional.
You bet, boys.
Have a good.
I appreciate the show.
And I'll have a report for you from the tailgate tour on the road this week.
Thanks, Mike.
I'm standing.
Thanks, buddy.

It's National Scrabble Day, ladies and gentlemen.

That's our Nightlight Question of the Night.
I'm Pete Schwabbe.
He's Greg Bach.
We are coming back after the news to read your texts.
We'll be right back.
Trying to make sense of the world.
You've got Night Light with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach.

We are currently streaming on Facebook, YouTube and the platform.
We still call Twitter still ahead.
the creator, the founder of the multi-award when he 21 time Milwaukee press club winning website, the recombobulation area.
Yeah, I know.
I know Dan Schaefer will be here coming up after the break to talk about probably talking about the bucks.
And we'll also be talking about the recombobulation area as well as his live 414 event tomorrow is going to be Milwaukee day.
So
April the 14th get it 414 He will be here talking about that event talking about whatever we want to discuss But most likely that as well as the bucks, but it's gonna be great haven't talked to him in a while He is our buddy our co-worker our friend but before we get to that and Before we restate the question of the night
We have something very important to discuss, and that is the key word this hour in our Win Your Way into the Milwaukee Film Festival.
The Milwaukee Film Festival kicks off this Thursday, and there are dozens of incredible films out there, and they're going to be at the Oriental as well as the Downer Theater, so you can get your tickets by going to mkefilm.org.
You can also enter right now to possibly win an all-access pass that will get you to see every single film of the festival.
And we're going to give you a keyword right now.
You will have one hour to enter that word in for your chance to win a full all-access pass to the Milwaukee Film Festival here in 2026.
So if you're all ready, get yourselves prepared.
Here comes your keyword.
the tension builds.
The word is action.
A C T I O N action as in my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie is last action hero action.
A C T I O N spelling counts.
Capitalization does not put that word into the text to the text world here on civic media for your chance to win an all access pass to the 2026 Milwaukee Film Festival.
Once again, the word is action.
A C T I O N. Good luck and
JB, I'm sorry to tell you this, you have to text it in, you cannot put it on the live stream, you can't email it in, you can't call it in, you have to text it in via the Civic Media app or your phone.
Once again, the word is AC, T-I-O-N.
Good luck, you have the rest of the hour to participate.
You can pretend you're a director while you're typing in say action and shout it.
I just said JB at the Wisconsin Film Festival Yeah, there's a great contingency of Northeast Wisconsin film makers there this last week, which was fun How about this Greg though from Milwaukee another
great
film festival?
You've got opening night.
The film is yoke about Bob Yooker.
Yep closing night.
It's the Paul Rudd Nick Jonas comedy power ballad
They're also screening something called the big cheese documentary, which looks like a blast.
Song sung blue and the Italian classic horror film, Bay of Blood.
I mean, those are just a few of the things at the Milwaukee film festival this year.
And they're going to
be filming, not filming, they're going to be showing stop making sense again, as they usually do every single year.
So that's a great one to check.
There's great midnight movies.
But again, go to mkefilm.org for the complete lineup, text in the word action for your chance to win an all access pass and congratulations.
all the people last week who won tickets to go see a movie at the festival this year.
Again, starts this Thursday, the 16th through the 30th.
Good luck.
I really hope that I've loved this.
I'd love for someone to go take some pictures and send them via the Civic Media app because you can do that when you download the app.
And I'd love to see the fun y'all are having.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it this year.
I'd like to, but I want to hear all the great stories from those who did participate and those who got a chance to see movies.
So yeah.
It's going to be fun.
It's going to be fun.
It's a phenomenal festival and it'll be fun to talk to.
Maybe we'll talk to Dan a little bit about that.
Greg, who knows?
You
don't know when Dan Shaffer swings by the wire is on the table.
I don't want to get you to arguing about that because you're Milwaukee brothers, but,
uh, I mean, he already knows I'm not a fan, but it's fine.
You guys can talk about it.
I'll take a break.
I'll go
out of my desk and just sleep for a little while.
We talked about it on mat and
air and air.
Okay.
Yeah.
But I'm just curious.
Did you just say that in conversation?
Did you know he was a big fan?
And did you kind of pick a fight with
him?
Well, first of all, I don't pick fights with people because I'm not a child.
Also, Mark from Prairie to Sack, you misspelled the word.
So just want to let you know, you
guys
Texan spelling counts, Mark spelling counts.
No, I didn't pick a fight.
I don't like not trying to pick fights.
Like my whole thing is if you like something and I don't like that thing.
That's fine.
Unless you're Dom's mom who doesn't like Phil Collins, then I have a problem because I felt like she specifically called me out.
That's what I am.
Age.
Well,
uh, no, it's, but yeah, I don't, I mean, like, look, I, again, I think I said this before.
I understand why the wire is considered one of the best TV shows of all time.
I'm not disputing that point.
I'm just saying for me, it wasn't my jam.
That's it.
I know.
I'm just teasing.
It's fun to have a spirit.
He wants to start a fight.
He wants to start a fight.
I love it when someone doesn't like something that's popular.
And I think I'm on your side, Greg.
However, when it comes to Dom's mom, but she was so irate about your love for Phil Collins, she grounded Dom.
Oh man, I don't think that was fair.
She took the ice and she threw it in the trash and said no son of mine.
Yeah, which actually funny because that's the name of a Genesis song.
No son of mine.
But that's, you know, sung by Phil
Collins.
I thought I did a good job.
I don't know.
Yeah.
He did a great job.
Did you walk in with the
bags and she's going ice, ice, baby.
I'm proud of you.
Oh,
weird.
Alright, so
do you guys
want to restate the question of the evening?
Yeah, why not?
Let's do that.
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
Let's talk about the question.
Okay, question.
Question.
Question.
Pregunta.
Question.
Question.
Okay, I have a question.
Questions.
This question.
Domanda.
Question.
Questions.
The question of the night is it's National Scrabble Day.
So what's your favorite board game again?
855-752-4842, 855-755-CIVIC.
You can call or text that number.
You can also call, text, or leave a voice message on the Civic Media app.
If you don't have the app, download it from wherever you get your apps.
It's app, absolutely free.
You can listen to shows live.
You can, like I said, text again, but let us know your favorite board game right now.
That's what we're talking about.
All right, Pete, let us know.
What is your favorite board game?
Okay.
My favorite board game is
Balderdash.
Oh, and
that's a
fun word too.
It's a fun way, but it's, I wasn't, I have to say my family were not, we were like more outside game type people.
But when I met my wife's family, they were so into board games and I became addicted to board games.
They're
so much
fun.
And you know, there's some great ones that like spark arguments and discussion, like picture or not, but the Scattergories.
or I like catchphrase.
I love Scrabble, but I would have to say Balderdash because some of the definitions you come up with while you're playing, and most, a lot of people in my family just like to write funny definitions and make people laugh.
They're not actually even trying to win the game.
So that would probably be my favorite.
What about you?
So here's the question I have.
when we'd say people will say like boulder dash or they'll say monopoly can it be a non but like like one of my favorite games is not so much a board game it's a card game called joking hazard where
it's
so good it's yeah it's a really fun
game yeah
that's totally fine yeah it goes along the same line of uh on apples to apples or cards against humanity where
cards are put down everyone puts in their their card and then one person at the table is the judge and they pick who the winner is and it's it is a little more
blue slash possibly offensive than apples to apples, but it's not as over the top as cards against humanity, especially has become in the past few years.
But I love joking hazard because it's comic it's comic strip based.
It's really fun.
And I love that game.
I'm not a I'm personally not a huge fan of board games like the Monopoly stuff like that.
I feel like I get to I get
Anxious because the competition of it all whereas like with those
other
games It's fun the the rounds over quick and we move on and then we're done and it but for me joking hazard is the game I love to play.
Oh That's a great answer.
Yeah, it's a great.
I thought I've never played cards against humanity.
Really?
Dying
to I once played it with my mother-in-law dot-dot-dot
that
went horribly so
See, I love those awkward moments.
Oh, well,
yeah, off air, I'll tell you what I had to do.
I can't say that
on the
air, but we, so cards into humanity used to do a Christmas pack every year.
You pay like 15, 20 bucks and you get like a care package from them with special cards made only for this pack.
So nobody else had to put this and you get like,
a letter and you get like, it's just, it's a weird little care package from this company.
And one year it got, you got cards and it said, oh, who are you planning on giving this to?
And I said to my wife and I gave my name and they printed a card with her name on it.
My wife was not.
happy because it's like, I don't want my name being put on something like, I get it.
So we just took the card out, we put it away and we're like, we'd never do that, but she's got her own card.
It's, you know, on the side, we haven't played cards against humanity in a very long time.
We, you know, if, if we're doing that, it's usually going to be again, joking hazard, but that was a fun game for a while.
And then after, you know, then it's like, all right, we're moving on to other things.
That sounds like a blast.
Don, what about you?
I gotta go with, I really like long now.
I love Monopoly, but I gotta go with risk.
I love risk.
It is, yes.
I love taking over the territories.
Me and my roommate play it constantly.
I just, I like winning that.
It's an obsessive game.
It's an obsessive game.
Yeah, it's very
authoritarian
and sponsored.
Nikki on my Facebook page said, of course, risk as well.
I used to play a weekly risk game with friends and they're a lot, they're like a thousand times smarter than I am, which isn't saying much, but they are much smarter than I am.
And I won once and then I never played again.
I was like, I'm retiring on top.
No, I was defeated many times, but that night
I
won.
And I'm like, well, it's been fun.
I'm going to take off now and get out of here because I'm smarter than all of you right this moment.
And goodbye.
And then there was
a Greg size
plume of smoke and the door was just open.
So,
um, JB says cards against humanity last Wednesday of the month at Appleton cigar company.
Uh, he says, I haven't played it either.
Check that out at Appleton cigar company.
Fine.
And proud.
A nightlight sponsor.
Great job over there.
And that's a great plug, JB.
JB, I got to get down there cause they have poker nights too.
And I keep saying I'm going to go down there and I never have a set than saying young Campbell.
No, I play poker.
I don't gamble.
I don't do professional sports betting
But I poker with friend.
The only thing I'll play for money is poker with friends because I'd rather give 20 or 50 bucks to a friend.
I'm not going to give it to fan duel or whatever.
And when I play on my phone, it's not for real money.
So I'm not lame gambler.
Dave on the stream says wits and wagers.
I
don't think
I don't
know what the other one is
either.
So
do we have, what about our, the text line for eight, five, five, seven, five, two, four, eight, four, two.
Yes.
Uh, we do have Brett from brown deer saying favorite board game was battleship as a kid, which is really good.
But now I'd say chess because I bought a really.
I always wanted to play chess,
but I just like feel like I don't have the wherewithal like
dive into what's necessary to be at least mediocre at chess.
Again, I get very anxious.
I'm like, here you go, you win.
Here's my queen and my king.
You can take those home.
It's fine.
Chess is a
fun game, too, though.
Chess is a very
interesting.
It's very interesting to watch people play, believe it or not, because when you're watching these masters playing, you're trying to understand what they're thinking about.
And you can't because they are just absolutely out of this world.
brilliant at what they do.
But
I thought
I said chest.
You did say chest because I also said chest as well.
But that's that's the way radio works.
We can't
take it back.
Go there.
But we're
Don't go anywhere, folks, right after the break.
Come on back, grab some water, grab some snacks, because we're talking to the founder of the Recon Population Area, our friend, Mr. Dan Schaefer, about four one four day, most likely the Bucks and Pete wants to start a fight about the wire because that's who he is.
But don't go anywhere.
You were listening and we're watching Nightlight with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach here on the Civic Media Network.
Stay tuned.
Stay close.

Capitalization does not.
It's your chance to win an all-access pass to this year's Milwaukee Film Festival.

Good luck.
And speaking of luck and awesomeness and amazingness, Pete and Dom, our next guest is awesome, amazing, and wonderful.
He is the founder of the Recombobulation Area.
He is
our co-worker and our friend, Mr. Dan Schaefer, right here on the show.
Good evening, Dan.
How are you today?
Good evening, fellas.
Wonderful to be joining you here on Nightlight.
Hello, Greg.
Hello, Pete.
It's been too long.
It's good to see you
guys.
Way too long.
And you're such a humble guy.
Greg was giving you all this praise, and I almost said, Greg, please, you're going to embarrass Dan, because he's that humble of a guy.
Oh, no, he
told me I had to say all those things.
I'd write down.
I gave Greg
a script to gas me up a little bit here.
It would have been nice to be included in that, but OK.
He
said, Dan, he said, say the following.
I'm awesome, amazing, humble.
And if you get any of this wrong, I will find out where you, I don't
think I'm supposed to
read that part.
Oops.
Sorry.
Sorry about that.
So yeah.
Welcome to the show, Dan.
We're happy to see
you.
We're happy
to hear from you.
Let's kick it right off.
414 Day is tomorrow for those who don't know and like listening throughout Wisconsin or around the world on the Civic Media app.
Tomorrow is April the 14th, which has been designated 414 Day Milwaukee Day.
What do you have planned?
What goes on in a day like that in Milwaukee?
How do they celebrate their fine city?
Well, the Reconpopulation Area is a proud, proud Milwaukee publication.
And we love to celebrate the city that we call home, the city that we have built this community around this scrappy little publication, the Reconpopulation Area.
And so each and every year, since we got things started, we have
our biggest sale of the year on Milwaukee Day.
So Milwaukee
Day
is on April 14th, which mirrors the city's area code of 414 for April 14th of the month.
And we offer all of our subscriptions for 41.4% off on Milwaukee Day.
Yes, it is that specific.
But it means that you can get a full year subscription, usually a $50 value for $29.50.
Pretty good, right?
full
year of award-winning independent journalism for less than 30 bucks.
Or if you just want to sample it a little bit here and there, you can get started for less than three bucks a month.
So, you know, our prices have remained the same since 2019.
Who else can say that, right?
Nobody,
absolutely
nobody.
It's not just award-winning either.
It's a lot of awards, Dan, like 21 Milwaukee Press Club awards alone.
Yeah, we're winning our 20th and 21st Press Club Awards this year.
Wow.
I think what Greg is trying to tell you is you could bump up those prices a little bit.
Maybe I should, but not for tomorrow.
Not
on
Milwaukee Day when people get their chip.
It's kind of our Black Friday, right?
We have our biggest sale of the year so people can subscribe and get a full year in it.
It helps us plan for the year ahead.
This is going to be a big year in the political union.
here in the state of Wisconsin and in the city of Milwaukee with the race for governor, the midterms, so much happening up and down the ballot, so much happening here in our fair city all the time.
So there's going to be a lot to cover.
So be sure to subscribe with that.
And along with the subscription, we are hosting an event tomorrow evening in the city of Milwaukee.
We are hosting a live podcast at Anadine Coffee's Walker's Point Roastery.
That will begin at 5.30.
We will start podcasting at about 6 p.m.
So fit, you know, it's sorry to break into nightlight at all But we will have the podcast available as a video for you later this week if you are a subscriber as well So we are excited to be having that conversation tomorrow evening Angela Lang from Black Leaders Organizing for Communities and Matt Wild from Milwaukee Record will be joining for the live podcast and we'll have some special guests there as well
Do you want to talk about who one of the special guests might be Dan like who the Maybe the catalyst for the whole day, or would you rather talk about?
The bonus you'll be offering tomorrow
Well, we can talk a little after the break here, too, but we have the founder of Milwaukee Day, one of the founders of Milwaukee Day, Andy Silverman.
He and a couple other of his friends founded this holiday back in 2010, and it has grown to be the glorious celebration that it's become.
So we will be talking about those humble origins of Milwaukee Day, getting the backstory, you know, the prequel to what we are celebrating now in Milwaukee Day.
I've been trying to found Waukesha Day for February 26 and nobody will take
it because they're like, that's not how
it works.
It's 262.
And they're like, you can't do it British style.
Like, okay, fine, whatever.
So my, my plans have failed again.
You know, I saw that Madison was kind of flirting with trying like a June 8th, Madison Day or something like that.
They could do a September 20th in the Fox Valley, you know, but nothing will really compare to Milwaukee Day and
here in
the 414.
No, it's perfect.
And you don't, you know, Madison is enough.
I mean, I love Madison, but they've got enough days there.
Dan, before we go to a break, can I ask you what your favorite board game is?
That's our question of the night.
Are you a board game guy?
I like
a good board game.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, I would say I'll go with the classic.
I'll go with monopoly because it's got some family.
We used to play monopoly every year after Thanksgiving, after we were after a long meal of, uh, hanging out with each other.
We'd just play over the longest possible board game right after that too.
Which makes
nothing but friends with each other afterwards, by the way.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Just hear me out.
Recombob, the recombobulation area of the board game.
Oh, I like it.
I want it.
I like it.
Pete's telling you to do some more work down until you create
this with
you.
That's all I'm saying.
Wet that beak, baby.
When
we come back, we'll be
talking more with the founder of the recombobulation area, Mr. Dan Schaefer, about the history of 414.
And if we get to it too, we might get his feelings on all the news coming out of the Bucks organization.
But to find out, you'll have to stay tuned.
You're listening and or watching Nightlight with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach here on the Civic Meeting Network.
Stay tuned.
Stay
close.
I'm sure you've heard it all before, but you never really had a doubt.
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.
Welcome back to Night Light with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach here on the Civic Media Network.
We are coming to you live from all over Wisconsin.
The Yadarhe triangle is sort of a Yadarhe square now because I'm coming to you live from Radio Park.
up a little bit from the state in Milwaukee as our guest Mr. Dan Schaefer up a little bit further is Mr. Pete Schwabba and over in Madison is Dom Lee on the boards.
If you want to be part of the conversation, 855-752-4842-855-755.
Civic, leave a comment on that live stream.
We are currently streaming on Facebook, YouTube, and the platform we still call Twitter.
Tonight's question is, what is your favorite board game celebrating National Board Game Day?
Yeah, leave a comment, send a question.
or leave a comment on your favorite game, any way you want, whether you're called text, leave it on the civic media app or on the live stream.
But we are talking to our friend Dan Schaefer, the founder of the recombobulation area and multi award winning outfit.
Their big four, one, four day sale is going on tomorrow in celebration of four, one, four day Milwaukee day.
And Dan, before we went to the break, you wanted to talk about.
the history of 414 day, you're going to be having one of the creators at the show tomorrow, but it has been around for now, what, 16 years tomorrow, right?
Yeah, that's right.
So Andy Silverman is one of the folks that founded Milwaukee Day.
He has a wonderful, terrific guy.
He and Brent Godey and Tim
Gable put together this holiday a number of years back and it kind of started as a joke.
almost to say that, hey, 414, this is Milwaukee Day, but it has grown into this whole citywide celebration that there are events all over town.
There are mayoral proclamations.
There are all sorts of different things happening all over the city with in conjunction with Milwaukee Day.
And I think it really comes at a great time of year for Milwaukee too, because we're finally emerging from winter.
We're starting to get also
of like summer concert announcements, all sorts of fun stuff like that.
We're looking ahead to Summer Fest.
We're looking ahead to Brewer Games, getting started and all of that.
And I think it's just a great time of year.
It's a hopeful time of year for Milwaukee, right?
And we've got the great Milwaukee summer right around the corner.
So I just think it's a great, great time for this city to have this goofy little made up holiday and have that, you know, it's just, I think it's just the spirit of it is.
so wonderful because it's just like, you know, you can just do things.
You can just come up with a holiday and you can do that in a city like Milwaukee.
And I was thinking about, um, I was getting, getting some stuff together for it for some of our promotions tomorrow too.
And the recombobulation area, the actual one at Mitchell airport is like that too.
I actually did some research on the origins of the recombobulation area in conjunction with Milwaukee day.
And the former airport director, Barry Bateman, just decided to do it.
it's just, there is that spirit of just like creativity and silliness and a little bit of whimsy that comes in with, uh, with Milwaukee.
And you can just, you know, put up signs and have a recon population area at the airport and just notice the date on the calendar.
And hey, say we're, we're going to make that a holiday.
And I really love that spirit about this city.
And I'm excited to celebrate it tomorrow at Anadine in Walker's point.
I got to tell you, Dan, I first heard about Milwaukee day a week ago.
It's already above Arbor day.
on my list of holidays that I think it has that much potential.
You're right
though.
It's so cool.
We got to work with our tree brothers and sisters.
Maybe that's a new holiday.
But you've got a really cool bonus tomorrow during your event that you're going to be giving away something.
And please tell us about that because that's pretty cool.
Although hopefully it'll be after.
Well, go ahead and tell us about the bonus that we'll talk about.
Yeah, we've got a couple things to give away with at the event as well.
We've got some brew a pair of brewers tickets for an upcoming game.
I believe it's a Saturday night game when they've got they're giving away a windbreaker.
So you're going to want to
want to get
those tickets for that one.
And then we're also partnering with the Milwaukee Film Festival this year.
So we're giving away a couple passes to a couple films at the Milwaukee Film Festival.
I know you find folks here have been looking forward to that event as well.
So where we are a community
partner for a couple of the, couple of the films going on there and we'll be giving away some passes with that as well.
And, um, yeah, it's, uh, it's going to be a terrific event.
Love that.
Love.
I love, I love, I love the baseball giveaways.
I love a windbreaker.
Who doesn't love breaking wind seriously.
It's just wonderful.
I waited to say that joke, by the way.
I let that just let that faster.
I wanted to say really quick, uh, until I met, like, I always knew what the right recombobulation area was, like, as far as like the airport and I, you know, I've seen the sign.
Dozens upon dozens of times, but it wasn't until I met you and saw the work you did with the Reconpopulation area because what happens is people will take pictures of that sign and at you usually on Twitter I'll see it on Facebook, but you're kind of like they're North Star when they get to that thing and you and you always respond It's always lovely, but I didn't know
until like two years ago that not every airport had that sign.
I thought every airport had a recombine.
I thought that was an, I thought that was an
FAA
term that everywhere else.
And I'm like, wait a minute, I'm in DC.
Where's the recombination sign?
And then I came to the realization, Oh, only Milwaukee has it.
That's right,
baby.
It is a uniquely Milwaukee thing.
And that is part of what I love about it, too.
Yeah, nobody, no place else has a recombobulation area.
Maybe that's why so many other cities are so discombobulated because they have no place in Milwaukee to, you know, really piece yourself together and make your way to your destination and all of that.
And I just love the way that Milwaukee has kind of celebrated it and it's become part of like the vernacular.
in the city for the recombobulation area and the uniquely Milwaukee thing that it is.
It's just very silly.
And it's got some good wordplay.
And, you know, if anything else I get wrong over the course of the recombobulation area in my, you know, my political opinions or whatever it else might be, you know, I think I've got a little bit better batting average than most.
But if I
get everything
wrong, I
know I got the
name right.
I know I got the name right.
There you
go.
Love that.
Check out Dan Shaver as our guest, the multiple, multiple award-winning host of the recon population area and founder of the recon population area, but not the one at the airport.
Don't get confused folks, but check out Dan online.
You can follow him on Twitter.
He's got a great event coming up tomorrow to celebrate.
Oh,
four days.
He's going to be an anodyne coffee and Walker's point.
And did I say
something?
Oh, you froze for a
moment.
We lost you.
We lost you, Pete.
You were briefly
discombobulated, but then look,
I'm
here.
Oh, I might not be, if you weren't here, I wouldn't be back right now.
So that worked out really well.
The cost is free though.
And you can RSVP on Facebook.
And what can people expect?
And like, are you expecting a crowd when you broadcast from there?
And if so, what are we looking at if people want to swing by?
Yeah, we've we've held events, live podcast events at Anaheim Coffee before they've been terrific hosts for us.
And it's a great place, you know, if you're going out to, I know there's some like live music and stuff like that in Milwaukee tomorrow night for Milwaukee Day as well.
So I think this is a good, you know, happy hour.
Just come hang out.
Just talk with us for a little for an hour in the early evening.
And yeah, we'll get a bunch of people there.
Myself, Angela Lang and Matt Wilde from Milwaukee Record.
Matt has a great series at
Milwaukee record called mandatory Milwaukee.
And I think we're going to be talking about some of the mandatory Milwaukee articles that they've written over the past year, you know, some just quintessential Milwaukee things that we'll enjoy bantering about.
And I think with Angela there as well, we'll have a little opportunity to get into some politics to talk about
the
talk about the political universe and how things are in Milwaukee right now, what we're looking forward to for the rest of this year.
You know, there's there's going to be some news tomorrow to talk about with this potential.
special session on banning gerrymandering, which as you may know, is an issue that I'm particularly passionate about.
We just had the spring election last week, so we're gonna have to get into some politics, but most of the day, most of the program, most of the podcast will be focused on celebrating the city that we love.
And one of the things that we have made a priority at the Reconpopulation Area since we launched it has been not just to try to provide
a new option for some independent journalism here in the city, but also to build community.
And that's one thing that's been really important to us and events like this.
You know, we started as a subscriber funded publication and it is because of those people who subscribe to our publication that we're able to exist at all and do the types of things that we do.
So we always want to give people an opportunity to join in that community together with us.
events like this in Milwaukee.
We did a podcast before the RNC a couple years ago.
We did a live event there with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley a couple years ago.
And we're really excited to be having this conversation at Anaheim tomorrow evening.
So be there at 5 30.
We'll get things started at about six.
Get yourself a coffee.
I think they got a couple other adult beverages on the on the menu
as well.
If you want to celebrate Milwaukee style with a River West stein or something like that too.
And we'll have
a great time.
I don't want to end this on a sour note, but I don't also know your feelings on this.
We've got a four minutes left.
Really quick thoughts on the Bucks news with Doc Rivers.
Is it give you hope for the next season?
What are you feeling with all this news coming out of the Bucks organization?
I'm certainly excited that Doc Rivers is no longer going to be the coach.
Somehow I was not shocked by that statement.
You know, it hasn't worked.
The Doc Revers experiment hasn't worked.
It was time to move on.
It was probably time to move on a while ago.
But, you know, definitely an uncertain offseason ahead for my beloved Milwaukee Bucks.
I am firmly in the keep Giannis.
Don't trade him.
Never leave us.
Why would you ever go anywhere?
Wow.
There's just Dan Schaefer wrapped around Giannis' leg going, don't go.
Don't go.
I get that because he's, he's Giannis, but like as a Bucs fan, while he still has trade value, I feel like he's going to leave Dan.
And I don't, I don't, I don't want that because I think you need a sports hero in your town.
And he's definitely that, but like,
How did you feel when they fired Adrian Griffin, who had a winning record at the time compared to this fire?
This is not a firing.
I'm sorry.
Departure
or whatever.
Departure.
Departure.

Dep
like I thought, I didn't think Doc was the best choice as a replacement, but I, you know, he had a winning record, but it was like, it was embarrassingly disastrous tenure as coach.
It didn't get any better with Doc Rivers and they kept him there for two and a half years.
And so that wasn't great.
So, you know, there's all my friend Eric name who is a reporter at the athletic has written some terrific pieces about the Bucks over the last 24 hours Featuring, you know stuff about Doc Rivers about just the acrimony within the within the organization He had an exclusive interview with Yanis.
I would go check out Eric stuff at the athletic I'm still processing a lot of that right now looking ahead to this on you know uncertain offseason
I still think there's a path to become a contender.
It's a long shot.
Um, but you know, this is, this has been their worst season, the first time missing the playoffs, uh, in nine years since the 2015-16 season.
And you know what?
Before that, you know, nine years in a row, but the bucks making the playoffs and being a competitive team and making the finals before that, they didn't make the playoffs.
I think.
nine times in the rest of my life in the 90s and 2000s,
you know,
and so like we've had this sustained period of competitive, successful bucks basketball and I'm grateful for it.
And I'm, I don't know if it's going to continue, but I've been grateful for these past nine years.
That's for sure.
I hope it
happens just for you, Dan.
Exactly.
We're keeping the hope alive for Dan Schaefer, who is the founder of the Recon Population Area.
You can go to the Recon Population Area dot news 414 sale tomorrow, 41.4% off.
a yearly subscription.
So don't miss it.
Excellent award-winning reporting.
Also, check out the event tomorrow at Anaheim Coffee in Milwaukee on Bruce in the third ward.
So don't go anywhere.
Thank you, Dan, so much for being here.
When we come back, we'll be getting you the nightcap and wrapping up the show.
You're listening to Civic Media.
Stay tuned and stay close.
It's time to wind it down.
This is Nightcap with Greg and Pete.
Welcome back to Nightlight with Pete Schwabba and Greg Bach here on the Civic Media Network.
You can always get in touch by calling or texting.
The number is the same 855-752-484-2855-757.
Leave a comment on that live stream.
We are currently streaming on Facebook, YouTube and the platform.
We still call Twitter.
You still have some time to let us know your thoughts, your favorite board game in celebration of National Scrabble Day.
I said National Board Game Day the hour or earlier.
I was
wrong.
National Scrabble Day.
What is your favorite board game?
Let us know.
And you also, if you haven't already, still have an opportunity to text in the word action A C T I O N for your chance to win an all access pass to the 2026 Milwaukee Film Festival text that in now, whether it's for your phone or the Civic Media app, but that is your opportunity and two more days of contest.
And then we'll pick a winner.
But again, the word is action A C T I O N.
Good luck.
Tomorrow, very excited about our show.
We are going to be speaking to Donald Chi, who is a professor of oral oral health sciences at the University of Washington.
He's going to be talking about the bad ideas behind secretary of health RFK juniors crusade to ban fluoride from drinking water in the US because it's got a lot of conspiracy theories backing it up.
And then welcoming back to the show.
And I didn't know this.
Dr. Susan Kearns.
She is in charge of the Milwaukee film.
She's in charge of Milwaukee film talking to us about the film festival starting this Thursday, the 16th.
I didn't realize she was a doctor, but she will be returning back to the show to talk about the film festival.
So that'd be very, very exciting.
So don't go anywhere sticking up.
She checked out
my gallbladder on one of her
visits.
Really?
Oh my gosh, she's so talented.
She can talk about, she can talk about Fellini, then she can also be like, get me that scalpel.
Is there a doctor that knows a lot about movies in the house?
Luckily she was here.
Well actually sir, I like to watch film.
Although I do like it when old people call it the pictures.
They're like, oh back in my day we would go see the pictures.
Let's go see a picture.
Dom, speaking of the question of the night, do we have any leftover text messages that we weren't able to get to yet?
Yes, we do have a few.
We have someone from texting you on WMDX said Scrabble, which is really
good.
Nice.
Love me
a
Scrabble.
Nice.
And
then we also have- Love me a Scrabble.
We have my mom.
She says, love plain aggravation, especially with my son, which is me, when he visits.
So thank you.
Thank you so much.
Wait, do you have a brother?
Do you have a brother?
I do.
Yes,
I do have a
brother.
I just like the idea.
He's just like with my son and he was like, it's not you.
My other son who visits more.
No, he hates board games.
Yeah.
My mom likes more.
So, so
we know where it is.
All right.
You sit on the radio.
It's true.
Pete, anybody on Facebook giving us some last thoughts?
Yeah.
Our pal Rich Tallarico
from P
and Peel, who's an awesome guest.
We got
a huge
back on.
He says favorite scrabble word.
I think I understand this, but I'm not 100% sure.
CWM.
I think he's using a letter in there, but I don't know.
Let's just skip a seat.
Tim Joyce on social media says actually scrabble.
Okay, Tim.
That's good.
Dan fine on Facebook.
A family friend says, Hey, Pete, what was the game we played that you had to write down the meaning of the really long obscure word and hand it over to the person who needs everyone's definition.
That is Balderdash.
If you guys haven't played it, highly recommend it.
He says that was my favorite game.
Otherwise.
Scategories, Othello, Stratigo, Scrabble, Trouble, Monopoly, Jenga.
Sorry, we're
all fun games.
All of them.
Yeah, they're all great.
I like a game where it's like two against two and you have to like use boards and like, you know, draw things.
That's also fun.
Jenga is fun though.
I love Jenga.
Oh, Jenga is awesome.
Pictionary.
But I feel like there's like, isn't there like also like, or there's win-lose and draw or tagging.
Don't you draw and taboo or something?
I don't remember.
I don't
remember.
I was too
busy.
That's a good one too.
Vince Moranto says it's a toss up between shoots and ladders and Candyland.
Okay.
Thank you.
Sometimes
you have your life.
There's no right or wrong
answers.
And trumpet, trumpet Joe on the live stream says risk or monopoly are the best.
That works for me too.
Tim Baker says a Ouija kind of creepy.
Love it, Tim.
Thank you.
Sean Boy says risk or monopoly, which is an interesting game and that you only type that.
with you left hand.
I don't understand.
Some of these people who get in touch with us just say interesting things.
I have trouble texting too.
I am the amount of typos I have.
Teresa on Facebook says, sorry, has always been my favorite.
Yes, I forgot about sorry.
Sorry.
My daughter and
I have been playing that since she was young.
And when she comes home now from college, we still have these great sorry marathons.
Such a
fun game.
That's awesome.
It's the game of sweet revenge and a member our social media pal who does great work here at at civic media and nightlight says payday I Also love the candy bar It's a great candy bar.
I'm gonna rated candy bar.
I don't disagree at all.
I don't disagree at all 1000% All right before we get on out of here Pete.
What did you learn today?
Well, I learned about Milwaukee day.
Obviously
I
made it
joke about it, but I really had never heard of it.
And I cannot imagine what better person to be having some type of celebration for that day than Dan Schaefer.
So
that was
really fun.
And I
learned that Mike.
Clemens is the hardest working man in sports.
Yeah, I did not know the history of Milwaukee day as well.
I didn't know it goes back that far.
And I'm very happy to hear about them very much looking forward to the event tomorrow.
If you guys can make it again, it's going to be the 414 event at anodyne coffee on Bruce street in the in Walker's point for a great discussion, fun, maybe some politics.
You never know.
Senior producer Tucker put on our chat.
He said settlers of Katan is also his is his favorite game.
So now we know
And I now know that Tucker's even smarter than I I knew before because people who love that game are Real good at games and I'm just like just here.
I I lose you can I lose you can just have whatever you can have my property.
It's fine All right.
Oh
Dom
really quick.
What'd you
learn?
I learned about four one four way and four one four day I learned a lot more
about
that.
So that was that was always
fine day.
All right
Well, on behalf of Pete, I'd like to thank Tucker.
I'd like to thank Dominic for everything they do, including traffic and engineering.
They make everything work here.
We just, you know, we just come in and talk.
But everyone who called texted, got in touch with us on the live stream.
Thank you so much.
Without you, there is no us.
Thank you very much to my Clemens and Dan Schaefer for stopping by.
Remember, tomorrow we're talking to Donald Chee, a professor of oral health sciences and why getting rid of fluoride from drinking water is bad.
And Dr. Susan Kearns of Milwaukee Film returns to talk about this year's
Milwaukee Film Fest starting on Thursday.
And if you haven't already, text in the word action, A-C-T-I-O-N for your chance to win an all-access pest in Milwaukee Film Festival starting this Thursday.
All right, folks, with all that being said, have a great night.
Pete, say good night to the people.
Good night, Wisconsin.
