Yeah says the doors I mean, this is all subjective.

There's no right or wrong answers, but

Half of these, I'm reading, I'm like, oh, I love them.

That's what you're going to get

with a question like this, right?

I can see why someone might feel the doors are overrated.

I feel like, you know, the timeframe, I grew up in the 80s and the 90s, and I feel like there was a great deal of kudos, flowers to the doors.

And granted, they're a good band.

They made some good music.

But I don't think they're as great as everyone says they're I'll definitely there are songs I'll listen to like peace frog I'll always listen to peace frog, but it's just not a band where I'm like, you do you understand the doors man?

No, I don't it's fine.

It's fine.

Yeah, I mean, I don't they're not in my top five bands.

I love LA woman I love some of their songs, but I get that Dave Sidney politics as kings of Leon interesting and you too I disagree about you

do not accept that as an answer.

I think that's wrong

I disagree with that.

I think you two is a fantastic band.

I do too.

And here's the thing

about you two.

They have the same four dudes have

been together

since the late seven since they were like 15 that I don't think that happens.

That's

there's not a lot of bands that still do that.

I mean, I'm trying to think right now of bands that still have all like all of their original members.

I'm sure they're out there and they're just escaping me right now.

But yeah, yeah, you two still, I know that they tour with a different drummer, but Adam or Larry.

Larry Mullin Jr.

still plays in the studio, but I think he's like kind of done with touring, but who knows?

I mean, it's still those four guys though, and the band is like going on 50 years old.

So it's, I don't know.

I've seen them.

It's an amazing show.

I love their music.

I didn't care when their album showed up on my iPhone.

I let that go.

People still talk about it to this day, but

is still my favorite Super Bowl halftime show right after 9-11 with

the theater they put into that and streets have no name, which

I love it.

When I first heard it, loved it, learned how to play it on the guitar, but now it's everywhere.

New generations have adopted it.

It's their anthem.

It's a little overplayed, so it's hard to disagree with that text as well.

Greg also goes out a couple of things with Greg.

Greg texted in a few times in the beginning of the show.

First of all, I love you to death, Greg.

I was never in the band, sweetheart, tripwire.

That was not a group I was in back in the day.

And he also went on to say, there was one other thing too here he put on.

overrated band artist, at least in Wisconsin, Pat McCurdy.

He goes on to say, McCurdy came to my Catholic music camp back in the day, wasn't impressed with him then, not impressed with him now.

And Greg, I know I was at that Catholic music camp back in the day.

I remember that show.

I played bass for him on stage.

Yeah, it was, they needed a bass player.

I could play three notes.

It's fine.

But I mean, he's still, he's still- And he

was at that show where you played with Pat McCurdy and that just all came

together on this text.

where Greg and I met.

I've known Greg for about 30 years now.

Yeah.

We, we, yeah, we came

up.

There's a lot of rock and roll stars that I probably wouldn't like personally, but I don't know that kid rocks overrated because he hasn't, he has hits in his own little stratosphere.

His music to me is always a guy trying to be the coolest guy at the bar.

Yeah, I mean, but then the rap game, the rap game dried up on him and became a rock star.

That's what they do when, you know, ask machine gun Kelly.

I completely agree.

I think Kiss is an overrated band.

I said on the text, not the text line, but the post that you made, I said that I think that the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, and here was the T's, Elvis overrated.

And I'm going for the big hitters.

Like I'm going for the Titans of music and rock and roll.

And I'm like, no, I don't really enjoy any of them.

So sure.

Look, I love a controversy you'll take when it's, we're talking about stuff.

This isn't really that important.

That's the fun of the whole thing, right?

So I can live with that.

I said, I don't even remember who I said.

I think Bon Jovi is just, you know, a couple tunes you tap your toes to, but I just never, I

think it's fine.

But sometimes people mention them in the same breath with Springsteen.

I'm like, what are you on?

Like, come on.

I think it's the New Jersey thing, you know?

Yeah, probably.

But when I watched their documentary, that it was like a four part documentary basically centered around John Bon Jovi and his voice trying to be saved.

And I didn't realize how many

multi-platinum albums they put out.

Like

usually it's

like, you know, they put out an album, then they put out another album and then people are like, ooh, they're really good.

Then they put out the album that defines their career.

And then it sort of slides down from there.

They put out like five albums in a row that sold huge.

And I mean, I don't know.

I personally feel like, I don't know if I'm in the same place as you, Pete.

They're fine.

There are songs in there.

They're good.

I enjoy, but I'll never turn off Wanted Dead or Alive.

That'll be tune I always listen to.

I like

that first guitar.

Look, I'm not saying I hate them or anything.

I just feel like I just don't need to keep hearing about them.

Like, like I feel like Springsteen, just to compare them again, has been putting out new music his whole career.

And he's five years younger than my dad.

And he's still doing three hour shows in Bon Jovi.

I feel like they're kind of riding on the whatever.

It's a good argument.

But I don't totally disagree with you.

I think it's when we over intellectualize certain bands.

That's when it becomes a thing of like, look, they're great.

They're a group or it's, you know, the Beatles.

Yes, they did a lot of great things, but I understand if someone says it's four dudes from Liverpool and it's a pop outfit.

I understand that criticism, but Dolly Parton dude, come on, man.

Daniel listening in on WMDX and Manasha says, grateful dead, boring 20 minute noodling around songs, bored.

I understand that point too, but I love that too.

I love, I love jam bands that know how to jam correctly versus a band that's like, Oh, it's one guitar player and three to four other people who are just like supporting them.

But

we talked about that, Greg.

And

I, we kind of, I don't think we totally disagree, but I, to me a lengthy guitar solo can ruin a good song.

It's like, I get it.

You know how to play the guitar.

That sounded good for about a minute.

Can we get back to the lyrics and the melody now?

I

think it's how you interweave the jamming.

If it's a 30-minute guitar solo, then yes, I understand that.

But if it's guitar, bass, and drums, and everyone's doing their thing and they're having fun, then it's more entertaining.

I get that.

But

30 minutes, you need a beating.

Already rated overrated not rated enough.

I think they're not rated enough honestly because bad company not getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a big deal for a long time Cindy

Lover lover love a few of her tunes, but I can't say I own her whole library

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I mean She wrote some a couple iconic tunes time after time girls just want to have fun.

Bruce Springsteen overrated when we just got done saying Bob Dylan is overrated I feel like subjective I understand it's a matter for me that people like worship at the altar of some of these artists where you as a person can't not like them or not be into them like like I've had people yell at me saying how do you not like them like it's easy I'm doing it right now but like I understand if someone sees

Bruce Springsteen is overrated.

I get that

Where's the chink in the armor with Springsteen?

That's my like, I can say that about Dylan because I don't believe that about Dylan.

I do believe that about Springsteen.

And when you, whether it's pop hits and anthems or reflective, you know, Nebraska or Devils and Dust, I mean, there is no

weak link there.

There's one song America knows about Bruce Springsteen.

Maybe two.

With Springsteen, I don't even get that that bad is there to like.

And Cougar, to me, is like a poor man's Springsteen.

She's not with them anymore.

And I feel like that's a crime.

And then spend a relish in the middle doing the DJ work, but she's not with the group anymore, which is like, what am I doing

This is what happens when you ask a newsman on the show.

He's wrong about spring steam, but I appreciate the effort here, Stuart.

I had a test tasted a bunch of Oval Ruddenbacher this week in preparation.

But Greg and I want to ask you a few questions about your movie watching tendencies.

How do you like to watch movies?

Are you a theater guy, a home guy?

What do you

mostly asleep these days?

I got three young kids.

So anything I'm watching, I got time for is kid related.

So that's kind of different than, you know, when

I was

younger.

Well, then when was the last time you went to a theater to see a movie then?

Oh, probably Frozen 2.

That was five years ago, six years ago.

When's the last time you went to a movie theater to see a movie that you wanted to see that you were taking

kids?

I don't know that I wanted to see it.

It was playing.

Bruce Springsteen

biopic.

It was the Will Smith aliens.

Well, well, I guess this this next this next question would be moot because you haven't gone to them since but Would you order food in the theater like you get a dinner and whatnot or are you that type person?

You know, give me some some goobers if they got them.

wish we I was just saying this earlier on the show.

I get goobers at the dollar store and bring them into the theater, which is so weird because the theater used to be the only place you could get them.

Raisinets, though, you can count on the raisinets to be there.

They're still there.

And so what is your favorite snack?

Is it popcorn or is it one of the your candy choices your slurpee?

The doctor told me I shouldn't eat the popcorn That's a funny line you guys didn't you guys didn't sell that at all You know the Rolos are good the caramels

I like

Caramel inside the end the chocolate's good.

No, I go back both ways.

It's whatever you want.

Caramel, because normally that like draws ire from people.

So I'll throw it out there.

Oh, Stuart, I guess you're not of the people anymore, man.

In the younger days, when you did see movies, did you ever movie hop in your life?

Oh, yeah.

They would drop

us

off at the movie theater when I was 11, 12, 13 years old.

And we would hop movies, go over and play at the pick and save next door.

Yeah, we would hop movies.

That's the greatest feeling.

It's a victimless crime, really.

I mean, I guess the art, you could say if you're not paying, it's the writer, the director, they're not getting there, but you're not going anyway.

You're either going to sneak in or you're going home because you can't afford two movies when you're a kid anyway.

Right.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And I would say, I would say unless the director actor has a deal, they already got their money.

Right.

They already got their check.

They're good.

If I tell Tom Hanks, I saw, you know, whatever movie splashed for free when I was a kid, he probably like, that's fine.

Yeah.

Stuart where do you like where do you sit with like when you watch a movie at home and you and I have discussed bluey before you introduced me to that kid show and I don't have kids at home anymore and it made me sad that's how good the show is but what do you what do you do at home do you have a different snack preference at home

typically it's a movie night on Friday so we get get some pizza pizza pie from a local eatery and somebody gets a pick either the oldest the youngest sometimes mom and dad gets the pick

So that's when we introduce kind of the older stuff that or stuff that, you know, they wouldn't pick that I think that they would like.

So that's kind of spread it out.

If you don't mind me asking how old are the kids?

Okay.

So

we're still so when mom and dad get to pick, there's still guidelines on what you are going to watch now.

Is there a movie that you, as a movie fan, can't wait to show?

Let's just say you're oldest at first, but there's a movie that you're like, I watched this when I was a kid, I shouldn't have, but I can't wait to show them.

Is there a movie for you that's like that where you're like, hey, don't tell your mom, or just don't tell anyone, we're gonna watch, I'm just catty-shack, just picking that one out of the blue.

That's probably it, because at least my boy would love that, it's just a nice silly movie that he would love.

We dropped back to the future on him last week.

So that was a,

you know, we

haven't done that.

They've seen bits and pieces of it, but it's all sitting right there in front of them now.

And why is he sitting with his mom?

There's some weird questions that come up.

I saw one of the, like the, uh, one of the early sand people and she did not like that at all.

So we haven't gone back to that one

yet.

We're firing up porkies.

I

was one of my favorites when I was younger.

Oh, great.

Great.

Here's, it's funny.

You mentioned Caddyshack because I remember my kids, we were just kind of lounging on the couch one day, you know, and it was on in the afternoon.

And it's the scene where they're, it's the gopher and the gopher's dancing.

I'm like, oh, the kids will like this.

My kids were like, I don't know, seven and three or something like that.

And it's a hard cut.

2003 is when it came out.

It's really good.

you know, I've loved

Sandman all my life.

Yeah.

And you think he's doing a kid's movie and like, oh, boy, how's this going to work?

It's great.

It's almost like it's a musical more

than

anything else.

There's a lot of music in it.

Nice.

And Sandman and Bill Burr are kind of the lead characters.

Bill Burr in 2003 is in this?

Yeah, is a turtle named Squirtle and

Adam

Sandler is a lizard named Leo and they live in a classroom and they've uh That is

not the

kids don't know they can talk it gets into a whole thing and a lot of music and them guiding through these guiding these kids through the fifth grade year

That doesn't surprise me.

He made eight crazy nights and people, I think people thought like, Oh gosh, he's making it like an, like an R rated cartoon about Hanukkah.

No, it's a movie for kids.

Like he is so childlike in that sense.

And I don't mean that as an insult.

Like there's something about him.

His Mark Twain award special was so wonderful because everyone who did that spoke on behalf, did nothing.

It was like Conan's as well.

Did nothing but gosh about how great of a human he is.

And

I am a total fan of his.

I've not seen all of his movies.

I don't need to.

I just love his vibe and who he is as a person.

He seems like it and his films are like this.

They're very sweet.

It's just a very sweet atmosphere he

presents

in his films.

Wedding singer.

It's a very syrupy and it's funny and it's really good.

But Rob Snyder is in this movie.

You're wondering us.

Of course he is.

It's an Adam Sandler

movie.

My

sandler thing I have okay, so I met him a couple times back in the day.

Very nice guy.

I had a I had a friend who worked for common control So they put out a cd rom.

That's how far back this is like 93 on the cover of the cd rom adam sandler peach wabba So my kids see that and again my buddy was just throwing me a bone.

I wasn't at he was already on saturday night live I'm still working the clubs, you know, but my kids see that

And they're like, whoa, your careers went different ways.

And I'm like, no, he was already famous.

That was just a friend putting me on there.

So I had to dig my way out of an Adam Sandler hole for the last 25.

You're coming out on a booth.

It hurts.

So do they bring that up just to like.

Like ribbit you ever once a while.

Oh dad.

Oh, they're good movie.

It's no big daddy.

Another interesting part of this movie is that Sandler's putting his kids to work two of his daughters do like prominent

I'm not shunning or

happy Gil, happy Gilmore too was, you know, it was fun.

I feel like there was some things that didn't need to be in there, but it was a good movie.

It's still based in heart.

And what I really loved is that, you know, the, that, you know, how they treated the Julie Bowen character in that movie.

And she was surprised.

She didn't expect to be invited back at all.

Cause she's like, well, I'm in my fifties and women don't get to be.

You know attractive moms and they have to be this kind of thing and they're like I was surprised I was invited.

I thought that was great, but Didn't think you need all the celebrities that had and it didn't need like if you look at the the himself or herself lineup on the credit You're like wow, you know a lot of people and they all showed up for this my goodness gracious

Well, it reminds me of kind of what my pick was going to be the Cannibal Run

So many great

bloopers.

So many great bloopers at the end of that movie.

Yeah.

So my slash story really quickly is just I was a student at DePaul I was a freshman and I walk into this sports bar called Kelly's Was right on the campus and there's all these you know dudes with the Paul jackets and they like want to be athletes and athletes and then there's slash

Sitting at a table with a cheeseburger.

He had the hat on the glasses.

He's slashed and he said Kelly's bar And I'm like, I'm pretty sure that's slashed and these guys are no way what would he be doing in Lincoln Park or in Chicago, you know And as it turns out we found out like the next day guns and roses rented an apartment on the DePaul or near the DePaul campus because they were trying to stay clean Making an album.

I was probably the album with patients on it

And they would, uh, they would yell out the window and have the Paul students go rent them videos at blockbuster and then throw them like 20 or 50 bucks or whatever.

But that was like, I was right next to slash.

He's just eating the cheeseburger.

This dude who stood out like a sore thumb yet totally belong.

It was beautiful.

I saw Joe Perry at Disney world one time I was there and I saw it was like, there was a group of people around him.

Like that's Joe Perry.

And that's when I found out that Joe Perry is like five foot four.

He is a tiny human being, but he, I mean, you know, he, the staff did a good job of keeping people away from him.

Cause he was with his family, but he was still very gracious.

People wanted like, you know, a thumbs up or a high five.

He's just very, very nice.

And I really appreciate it.

But I was just like, that's Joe Perry.

That's what I, that was when I realized that, you know, like, Oh wow, the celebrities are not, they're, they are like us, but much shorter.
