At Christmas time, she would read a Christmas Carol.

How did this group get started?

Uh, because I'm a crazy person.

That's how it got started.

So yeah, I started doing comedy four years ago.

I mean, trust me, I've been

a

jokester my entire life.

I finally started putting it in real time.

And I noticed when I was at all of these mics in Chicago that there weren't a lot of moms in the audience.

And I thought to myself, Oh, these women need to night out.

So I started gathering all these mom comics and we started booking rooms.

And next thing you know, we're on the Kelly Clarkson show and we've been at city wineries in Nashville.

and St.

Louis and Chicago.

So we're just, we're having a really good time, having a lot of fun.

And we are not, we're not mean moms.

We're just bad moms, which is really like a play on words.

Cause we're all good moms, but.

Sometimes it's just really hard to be the best mom all the time.

But are you worried people are going to show up and chastise you for being bad mothers?

I mean that name.

Go for it.

We are

ready.

Oh, trust me.

I have hecklers at home called teenagers.

So yeah, like John read with his peace fingers.

I'm like, yeah, come on, try it.

Yeah.

Hold my costume back.

I will hurt you.

Don't even think about it.

You have a tough crowd in the living room.

What audiences can't throw anything at you?

Exactly.

That's fantastic.

So what can we expect if people go out to Waterloo to see the show?

I love surprising men who come to the show because they're like, that was really funny.

I'm like, yeah, just cause we're moms doesn't make us on funny.

Like it seems like being a mom and all the stuff as parents that we go through it gives you more of a Canvas so to speak for material with your kids with your husbands because you know, we can be kind of dopey sometimes but like what how did you start this and how many moms are there in this group?

So I started with four moms I am up to a hundred moms from across the country

that

we pick and choose for every show and Yeah, depending on like flights and things like that.

So It's been amazing.

I

And not just that, in my opinion, we also, we have typical moms that was at, you know, our moms of children, but we also have dog moms and cat moms.

And I try

to feed to

them too, because I feel like those women don't, I feel like women just keep getting passed up in this industry.

So I want to give them credit, but like on our Mother's Day shows, it's always the typical, that woman is in pain at home with her

children.

It's funny you say that that's interesting because when I did stand up in the 90s, I think we started I started at Zany's So I think we started at the same club if your bio is correct But you know there was a lot fewer Female comedians then and it seems like now when I when my reels pop up There's tons of female comics and they're hilarious like did when did this happen?

When did that turn happen where all of a sudden there were a lot more women on the scene?

Can I be honest Pete?

I think yeah

um with covid a lot of women were trying that had been waiting to get their shot with producers on these shows said screw it i'm just going to do it on my own and put it on instagram and that's and that's how they start getting popular and then then you started signing them but i think women have been passed up for a really long time just

for whatever reason and i'm not saying every woman comic is funny but

i can tell

you every bad mom of comedy comic is a scare

and some of them are even good moms believe it or not

you know we you know against our better judgment yeah i don't know how i did it i have two great kids

and when you yeah when you do these shows do people do you ever threaten to ground

anybody

I think the thing is if you're gonna put a bra on leave the house buy a ticket park the car You're gonna have a good time at the show where again, we're not the bat the mean moms of comedy.

We're the bad moms of comedy So we're not gonna heckle you back.

We're not gonna roast you.

We're just talking about what it is like Living right aging what's going on in the world?

Yeah, honey So, you know, and that's my thing is I think it's I can relate better to comics

that our moms, because we're living a same experience.

If they're a 20-year-old and they're just talking about Pornhub and weed, I'm like, I'm kind of past that.

So I want someone to talk to me about stuff that I am living as well.

That's very well put.

But since then, but we've been featured on

women's world magazine and in she knows.com and we're just having a really good time.

And my thing is, is there are an amazing female comics out there and I love giving them this stage time because they totally deserve it.

They're so funny.

Kristen Toomey, Lindsay Porter, Leah Berman, so many Moe Goods, so many incredibly good comics that are on this show.

It's awesome.

He's a celebrity chef.

He kind of was already, but now he's on this great show called Next Level Baker, a spin-off of Next Level Chef, one of Gordon Ramsay's babies.

And he is a very talented guy.

And I'm thrilled to have him on the show, Mr. Chad Viskr.

How are you?

Hey, Pete.

Hey, guys.

Thanks for having me.

This is so much fun.

I mean, what a thrill for you.

I mean, you've already

Perfected the art of the pastry, and you were a chef.

I assume you can make anything great.

What has next level Baker been like for you?

How did they find you, Chad?

Yeah, so

kind of cool, Pete.

You know, I have a couple different theories to how they found me.

I think the official reason is my wife is very good at marketing.

Oh, nice.

You know, I'm terrible on computers, terrible marketing.

Luckily, my wife is really good at that stuff.

So, you know, I just make all the good stuff.

And luckily, she was, you know, tagging my stuff, doing all of the hashtags that were kind of in with the, you know, so.

Good team.

Some producers, you know, stumbled across it and.

Uh, so we kind of did it backwards where, you know, hundreds of thousands of people applied where, you know, they found me and then I kind of went through the whole process after that.

Wow.

That's pretty cool.

I thought you were going to say somebody took a bite of one of your pastries and said, who made this?

Get

him

on the show.

That's exciting.

Um, well, all right.

So what can you tell us so far about your experience?

I'm sure it's three rounds, right?

Yeah.

The first round or first show is three episodes.

It's like a mini series.

So is nostalgic chocolate treats.

Um, so you have to make them and, and it's three celebrity judges is Gordon Ramsay, Carla Hall and Candace Nelson.

How did, uh, how was that?

How was round one?

Oh man, Pete.

So round one was probably, well, so I have nothing to compare it to, okay?

It's because I've never experienced anything like this in my life.

But to kind of put it in perspective, you know, so it was filmed in Ireland.

So I had 18 hours to think about what the heck I'm getting myself into, right?

Yeah.

I'll be away from, you know, Milwaukee to Ireland.

And honestly, I kind of had like all the emotions leading up to it, you know, leading up to episode.

I was scared.

Yeah, I had been on TV, not at, you know, this magnitude.

Right.

You know, whether I was cooking or not, you know, I was very nervous for it.

And then, you know, throwing Gordon Ramsay, throwing Carlisle, throwing Candace Nelson, you know, I'm fine.

Yeah.

Gosh, can I turn around?

I don't even know if I'm qualified to do this.

But yeah, honestly, it's one of those things that, they first reached out to me, I thought it was a scam, and then the whole process is so long and elongated, and you go through all these different phases before you actually find out if you're on the show.

And honestly, when I was flying out to Ireland, I still wasn't guaranteed to be on the

show.

Yeah.

So they flew 14 contestants out and only 12 actually made it on the show.

So, um, you know, too alternate.

But yeah.

So I really had all the emotions, um, more than anything, uh, you know, I would like to say I wasn't nervous, but come on now.

I was very scared.

Um, I'm very grateful.

You know, very grateful Pete.

Um,

yeah.

In the same breath, I had a lot of time to kind of reflect on how grateful I was for my journey.

So

yeah, I would imagine just being.

I mean, first of all, you're successful already.

You know, it sounds like you're, you're, you have a shop in Elkhorn, right?

Yeah.

Okay.

Oh.

Oh, Khan, did we lose Chad?

Yeah, I believe so.

Um, so yeah, I would imagine like you've got, you've already got this successful store.

Your wife sounds like a brilliant marketer.

Like you don't need, you don't need a TV show, but it must have been a thrill.

Like even if you, let's say, and I don't, we don't know the results yet.

I know you can't share those, but if you're out on round one, people still know you've got that credit and you're just to make it there.

You, you know your stuff, right?

Oh, absolutely.

And you know, even.

even going into the competition, I had the mindset already that I had already won.

So even

in

my interview with the producers, I'm like, well, honestly, if I make it on already won, so it's a matter if I want to stack a double win or if we just want to call it a win.

So because you're absolutely right, just getting out there and creating these connections with the other chefs and the mentors, that in itself is

you know, worth all the money in the world, right?

You can't put money, you can't put a price tag on that.

So having those contacts, Chef Carl Laha, Gordon Ramsay in the back pocket, Candace Nelson, really winner of lose, it doesn't matter.

You have those contacts, right?

And in our industry, those contacts are so important.

So

Can you just tell me, Chad, what was it like performing, you know, baking, whatever, in front of Gordon Ramsay and Candace and Carla?

That had to be intimidating, but you know your stuff.

How much did that affect you?

So it honestly, I felt at home.

Honestly, I felt at home.

I didn't feel intimidated.

I felt like Gordon was very calming in the kitchen.

I felt like Carlo was very calming.

Same with Candace.

And I truly think it's because of my background in the savory kitchens.

So I'm very familiar with the yelling and the...

the coordinated chaos and how long on this chef, you know?

So I honestly, that's kind of where I, you know, I pitch my tent every day.

So it was weird, you know, because everyone's like, what the heck's wrong with you?

A lot of people are intimidated, freaked out.

But honestly, it's so subjective too, because it's like, what's your mindset going in?

Are you gonna be offended that one of the best chefs in the world is giving you constructive criticism?

Or are you going to take it as it's supposed to be received, you know?

Yeah.

You know, so it's, it's, and not everyone's like that, right?

Because it's such a raw thing, you know, because we are artists, right?

And we're putting our, our work out there.

So it's such a raw thing to be critiqued on national television, especially if you don't agree with them.

But for me personally, I'm, you know, I have the mindset why I always have something to learn, right?

Right.

That's a

great

outlook.

I and I that's impressive Because I made a bologna sandwich for Gordon Ramsay once and he hated it and he tore me to shreds.

So I did had the little olives in it.

I thought I thought he'd be impressed but So so talk

about

I said hi talk about you mentioned the camaraderie with the other bakers

Yeah.

You know, I remember being around other comics and when I was younger, I was sort of like, oh, he's on that show.

I haven't been on that show.

It's a little more competitive.

And then you get older and you just truly mature and appreciate their craft.

Is it the same way with bakers?

Like when you talk to these people, it must be a thrill for you.

It must be invigorating.

Yeah, it's honestly, you know, I was thinking to myself when I was out there, like,

how, aside from culinary school, you know, you kind of see this dense population of, you know, food and baking enthusiasts.

But aside from that, like I haven't really been in a room with that level of professionals, you know, really ever in my career.

And, and just to be around them and, you know, kind of geek out with them was phenomenal because they're

They're just as nerdy as I am, you know, and they love it just as much as I do like we still have a group chat that goes off

nice,

you know And it's funny because sometimes I'm still in boss mode So they'll be like hey anyone got a good caramel glaze recipe, you know I'll send it to the group message and then I'll go over the methodology and be like, okay, this is what you do this this this

They'll be like, come on, Chad.

We know how to make this.

That's great.

I noticed some of your representatives sent some clips out of the show.

You are the tallest chef by far.

You tower over the other contestants.

Is it harder to cook or bake when the food is that much farther away from you, Chad?

You know.

I think I'm used to it.

So my bakery, I intentionally have the tables a little higher.

It was such a whirlwind being out there.

I don't even know if I could think.

Because you get out to Ireland and you have jet lag, right?

So I wasn't sleeping good.

Their food is so much more fresh than the food we have in America.

So it's not a good situation there.

So I'm not sleeping, the food's running through me.

So my back was hurting, but I was dialed in, right?

So it's incredible what your body, they're going on.

Two hours of sleep, three hours of sleep when you really want

something.

Oh, that's great.

Chad, tell us about your pastry shop.

Where can people go to experience flavor country?

Yes, so we are in downtown Elkhorn, you know, right between like Whitewater and Lake Geneva.

Nice, okay.

29 North Wisconsin Street, just right downtown.

Really can't miss us, so.

Love it.

You know, pastries are my weakness.

Like, I like, more so than, I said this before, meat, pasta, fish, whatever, all the stuff I like to binge eat.

I could give those up before I could give up a great pastry on the weekend with my coffee.

Are they your favorite things to make or do you just do it really good and so you have to do it?

Oh, wow.

I would say a little bit of both.

Because I make so many different things at the shop and for wholesale as well.

Like my favorite thing to make is probably laminated doughs, which is the base of so many good pastries like croissants, you know, that's the base for this.

So yeah, I mean, there's definitely an art to it.

And, you know, kind of one is never the same, which is really cool.

So yeah, I'd say, you know, a little bit of both, you know, I'm good at it, but I also just do it every day.

Were you a fan of competition shows before you were part of one?

Like, did you watch these shows like Cupcake Wars or any of these competitive food shows?

You know, honestly, I'm so boring.

I got, you know, I got two kids.

I got two young kids.

I got a two year old and eight year old.

So between that, you know, the business, me and my wife are lucky to, you know, give a hug and a kiss.

watch a TV show, you know?

But no, I've never, honestly, I've never really been, I've never really been into TV much.

Is that weird?

Like I've always been more like outdoors.

You know, honestly, she'd make fun of me, but in college, like I would literally, on the weekends, I'd be cooking, you

know?

That's so cool.

What do you think about like,

To me what I have seen some of those shows my wife and my daughter watch them occasionally and I would sit with them and you know it's it seems so hard to unless food is really bad unless something is prepared and it's terrible which I doubt any of the chefs on TV do.

How do you judge it like I equate it to kind of like movies like when I watch the Oscars and like how do you pick the best movie it's all subjective is it the same way with food.

It's so hard yet so I've actually been a judge in competitions.

the same thoughts go through my head.

Cause it's like, you're here judging, you know, six incredible.

So this is when I was judging a competition, you know, tasting six incredible dishes and it's like evils, right?

They're all amazing.

So, you know, it's really like, you know, thoughtfulness for, for a dish like how thoughtful are you when preparing the dish, you know, whether it's,

you know, savory or sweet because, you know, that's really what takes an experience to the next level.

That's number one on my list when I go to restaurants, when I'm eating something.

How thoughtful is the person that I'm seeing their art?

So, um, so yeah, sorry, I'm kind of getting off topic here.

Oh, that's good.

Um, do you have a, uh, favorite restaurant, favorite Wisconsin eatery that is not yours that you could recommend?

Where should we go from the next level?

So Kurt bio was his, uh, was the guitar player for them in the early 2000s, only a couple of albums.

Um, and then he kind of broke off and, uh, does his own stuff.
