Wisconsin’s Finest: Comedy, Music, and a Hint of the Blues (Hour 3)
Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba and Greg Bach · Fri Nov 21, 2025
Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.
This is Night Light with Peach Wabba.
Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.
And now a guy who prefers to travel by catapult, Peach Wabba.
Hey, welcome to Night Light, ladies and gentlemen.
Let's do this.
It's Friday.
How we feelin' Wisconsin?
Feelin' pretty good.
Con, based on the old schedule here, we've done about three weeks of radio in one week.
That's true.
I'm
exaggerating a little bit,
but... Just a little bit.
How are you tonight, sir?
I'm doing good.
Good.
We got a fun show tonight.
This is gonna be a great show, a Friday show.
This is kind of the kind of Friday show you dream with, you dream about.
So here's my recommendation.
We are jam-packed with guests tonight.
So I would recommend...
either pouring yourself an old-fashioned, mixing an old-fashioned, whatever the proper terminology is, and just hang with us for three hours, the whole show, a Friday night.
We'll be done by eight o'clock, you can still binge watch something, take a walk, whatever, but we just have too much show, and I would love for you guys to be a part of it.
You often are, through our text line or phone line, they're always open at 855-752-4842, 855-75 Civic, let us know what you're thinking.
and contribute to the program as needed.
Yeah, we got great guests tonight.
Hey, I meant to mention this yesterday.
Are you a country music fan?
I would say I've grown increasingly towards it.
I've started to like it more, but I'm still on my favorite genre.
No, mine either.
And I like old country.
More than I do the new country and I but I'm trying to be more open-minded I feel like there are some new country artists that are pretty good and I like the genre Mixing I think that makes it a little more exciting for me But I still don't love it, but I do like it and I'm open-minded but the CMAs were the other night the country music awards and Lainey Wilson She's a town.
She's a talented kid as they say Are you familiar with her work?
I've heard a few of her tunes
She hosted the event and she also took home like best album, best entertainer of the year.
Like she cleaned up.
So country music fans would love to know how you feel about that.
My favorite country music artist nowadays is, I think you know.
You want to venture a gas con?
Morgan Wollin.
No.
Kailin Cole.
No.
Our favorite here at night.
Our favorite country artist.
We have to check in with her because that single.
that we've added to our bumper music mistreated, right, is so great.
And I thought, she's never gonna talk to us again, because she's gonna put her on the charts.
And we haven't heard from her, so maybe it did, but it's a great song.
And when I hear stuff like that with country, I really do like it.
So anyway, that was a big win for Lainey Wilson the other night.
And then...
We're gonna tell you tonight throughout the course of the show, folks.
You're gonna learn where you can see great Christmas movies playing on the big screen in the Milwaukee area.
We'll keep you posted with that.
I'm gonna tell you about a really cool concert coming up here, a 40th album release anniversary coming up here in Green Bay.
It's gonna be a great show right down the street here at the Meyer in June.
We'll tell you about that.
password trends, we're going to cover that.
Do you have a method to your password choosing?
I do.
What is your password?
1-2-3-4 ABCD.
Well, it's funny you say that because I was reading earlier and a lot of people use that.
They said the most common passwords are once again, they have the name admin in them, or the word password, and then 1-2-3-4-5-6.
Admin 1-2-3-4.
You I mean, I'm not saying you could hack into the Pentagon with that kind of you know savvy but You think the Pentagon's using admin one two three four big tank one two three four.
I don't know what they're doing But I do know this Pardon me.
I am sick and tired the two factor identification For my yahoo fantasy football email
Just hack me and take it.
I don't care change my roster for me if you like I hate doing the two-factor ID It's a pain in the ass.
Yeah, it is, you know There's some times in GMO or like your session expires While you're in the middle of doing something.
Yes,
I'm like what?
Why do I need to resign in I'm doing work.
I'm here.
I just tapped the keyboard 30 seconds ago
And sometimes like with my Gmail, I don't, I know roughly what the password is, but I don't sign in enough to memorize it.
So I gotta open my list.
It's really maddening.
Like the password thing has just gotten off the hook.
But let me ask you this, would you change, would you do a fingerprint?
Cause I don't like that either.
Well, I have a fingerprint on my MacBook and my iPad.
Do you?
Okay.
Nowhere else though.
You know when iPhones used to have the button, I did use the fingerprint then.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know if I like that either What if someone comes in like in a spy movie and takes you out and then they just lift your dead finger to the iPad so they can access your
I'm already dead
You want them to access all your packer news, do you?
That's fine with me.
They're gonna find something they love.
That's kind of how I feel I feel like there's really nothing on my computer.
That's that exciting.
I don't want to be hacked but
It is getting to be a headache because I use different passwords like You know, I've got my streaming platform passwords fantasy football all my banking passwords all this kind of stuff and they're all different I don't use the same password Pete one two three four, you know, it's probably taken anyway.
This just reminded me of something hilarious once yeah, I Had a Disney plus account when I was you know relatively cheap and Someone hacked into my Disney plus
And they made themselves a profile on your really yeah, and I said like I forget it said like Alex's family.
I'm like um what Alex's
family
so The only way I knew how to like try to communicate with them is I made like four profiles saying get off my account
And they deleted
every single one and just put a winky face.
That's it
I deleted it, I like permanently deleted it, took off my cards, permanently deleted it.
But I thought that was kind of funny though that they did that.
Yeah, that's a serious taunting.
My issue is like with Netflix and HBO, I feel like my daughter who is in college should be able to use those apps while she's at college.
But she has to sign in sometimes remotely.
And I'm like, just, you know,
I get it.
If you have a child that's out in the world and has their own money and is making their own money, make them get the apps.
I guess I don't have an issue with that, but they make everybody pay now.
Yeah.
Well, Netflix is the worst out of them kind of right now because they put a location like thing on it now.
Exactly.
That's what I'm talking
about.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I can't use my brother lives in Appleton and he was like, yeah, you can use mine and I can't use it in Green Bay.
Yeah, that's lame.
I mean, you guys are cheating.
Well,
you know,
you are a full-time employee of Civic Media.
You can buy your own.
He's helping me save some pennies, you know.
Yeah.
And that was the thing for a while, too.
We would do, like, the exchange.
Hey, give me your HBO and I'll give you my Netflix or whatever.
Well, I mean, when I did, I did have something.
Now, I don't have any streaming service.
That's mine.
Really?
Oh, man.
The last one I used was Apple TV.
Serious aberrant behavior.
Yeah, I mean Apple TV is just like it went up in price again So I'm like do I spend the 12 bucks to watch Pluribus?
Probably should
What but do this dude and I've said this before on the show pay for a month Watch as much TV as you can and then cancel it and then come back.
I mean there's there's a couple movies on there, too It's like, you know, I can't it's like going to the movie theater.
Yeah,
but you're getting more out of it
exactly
and you can eat your own snacks there
Yeah, that kind of sucks
You don't have snow caps sitting around your house or juju bees.
You
don't know what I have.
That's true.
I don't know.
All right, so we will get into a lot of stuff tonight, folks.
We've got, as I mentioned, jam-packed with guests.
Coming up at 5.35, we're going to talk some local sports.
And when I say local sports, I mean Wisconsin sports, the Packers, the Badgers, the Bucks, the guys from Make the Call, the great new Civic Media Sports Show, of which our boy Conrad Krieger is a part of, one of the roundtablers, Greg Gunderson and...
Carter Parker Olson Parker Olson totally spacing out.
I know Parker's name.
So Those two guys will join con and me will have some sports talk here at 535 and we've got two packer games to cover Yeah, I want to get you guys I want to hear what you guys have to say about sure because you won't have another show
before the second packer game, which is about- The next
show we're recapping both games.
Right.
Yeah.
So they got Minnesota on Sunday and then Detroit.
So we'll get into that at 5.25, do some Badger Talk.
And then at 6.05, is it 6.05?
I don't have my schedule here.
Yep, yep.
Our pal Joel Karnick joins us.
More sports talk.
Deer hunting is a sport.
It's considered sport, right?
Joe will be here to talk about Deer Hunter's Roundup, something he has been doing at 98Q Country for years, and it's really cool.
And we had Joe on last year to discuss it, and it was really fun.
So Joe will be here again.
If you're a Deer Hunter, you won't want to miss this.
And Joe's just a fun guy to talk to.
Then at 635, Joe's not at 6th.
I'm totally confused now.
Joel
is down at
6.10.
At 6.35.
Tom and Steph Clark, the comedians.
They are a power couple in comedy.
Tom is a Wisconsin native.
He hails from Milwaukee.
Very funny guy.
He's been all over HBO and Netflix and everything.
Social media blows up.
And his wife Steph Clark.
is also a very funny comedian.
She is from Southern California.
I don't get it.
They make it work.
Who am I to judge?
She has adopted Wisconsin as her second state.
They are a blast.
They will be here at 6.35 to talk about a couple of dates they have coming up in Wisconsin in the next few weeks.
So you can check them out here and then see if you want to go see them live, which I highly recommend.
And ladies and gentlemen, it is a bar band Friday night.
Our pal Terry Barr will be here.
One of the Max Inc.
co-hosts, the award-winning Max Inc.
co-hosts.
She and Rocker do a great job.
Terry will be here at 735 with outstanding music and a really fun chat as we do just about every Friday night here with Terry.
So there you go.
That's a show.
That's one, two, three, four, five, six guests, Conrad.
Have we ever done that?
Did we just break a record?
We're breaking nightlight history.
It seems like we do it every night.
They're going to give us a six hour show and we'll have 18 guests on one day.
Or just we talk the whole show.
Just talk the whole show.
Yeah, that's fun.
I don't know if you're like me.
I get sick of my own voice after like seven minutes.
So we'll do that.
And I think it's time.
Before we go to the break count, let's get our question of the night in.
This is the night like question of the night.
Let's talk about the question.
OK, question.
Question.
Question.
Question.
Question.
OK, I have a question.
Questions.
This question.
Domanda.
Question.
Questions.
This is a great one.
What is the saddest song?
You could also answer what is your favorite sad song?
I think we did something similar to this almost two years ago because this kind of sounded familiar, but Listen, I love sad songs.
Sometimes you're just in the mood for some melancholy You kind of want to feel bummed out.
You want to think about a time in your life that's gone.
You want to think about
People that are out of your life whatever it is the question is what is your favorite sad song?
I'm gonna start off and say the boys of summer by Don Henley Nobody on the beach.
Nobody on the road Great stuff about summer and the days of summer going away So but let us know yours 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 civic you can also text us on the app or if you're watching the radio on Facebook YouTube or
X, you can let us know there.
Drop us a stream comment.
We always love when you guys participate.
And we will read your text on the radio.
Also, leave us a like or a follow while you're there.
That's always fun to get to.
You know what I call that, Conrad?
Validation.
And when we come back after this very short break, Conrad is gonna tell us what his favorite, sad song is.
This is Pete Schwabba in Nightlight.
It's Friday, folks.
Great to have you here on the Civic Media Radio Network.
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Nightlight.
Happy Friday, everybody.
Great to have you with me.
Conrad Krieger working the board.
We are talking tonight.
We've got a lot of guests, as I mentioned.
We'll have the guys from Make the Call will be here.
Conrad's
colleagues
on that show that you can hear every Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
here at Civic Media.
Greg Anderson, Parker Olson, and Conrad will be part of that discussion as well in just a few minutes.
Then our pal Joel Karnick will be here talking to Dear Hunters Roundup at 610.
And Tom and Steph Clark, two very funny comedians.
We'll join us at 7.05 to talk about their, no, 6.35, I'm sorry, to talk about their upcoming dates here in Wisconsin.
Great shows, they're a very funny duo and funny individually as well.
But it's great when you get a little extra bang for your buck when they're on the same show.
And then it's a bar ban Friday night.
Terry Bar, 735.
She will be here with some great new music.
So a big show.
Our question of the night is, what is your favorite sad song?
I said The Boys of Summer by Don Henley.
You got one, Con?
Yeah, you know, I think I said it last time.
But it just, you know,
two years ago, people aren't going to remember.
OK, it's the song Apologize by Timbaland.
I don't know that song.
I'm not gonna sing it.
You could sing it or pull it and play a few bars for us later in another segment.
We could do that.
Well, all right, so When I was younger I'd watch these like Montages with that song in the background of like I don't know some like TV show I was watching and it's like the sad moments of the show And I was like tearing up really funny.
I don't know how old I was I was pretty young but that that yeah that sucks
Makes you makes you a little teary.
Sometimes it's not even a sad song You just have a memory of a song and something sad happened or it reminds you of a time Maybe when you lost somebody or a breakup or whatever But let us know what your favorite sad song is.
Can you pull the boys of summer?
Well, let's
come back from a break with that.
That's a great Don.
I'll grab both of these songs and yeah grab those boys of
summer the boys of summer and I think last time I said all Lang Syne Dan Fogelberg, which is also kind of a sad but a fun sad song
about unrequited love or past lovers.
So there's all kinds of diff.
There are no right or wrong answers, folks.
They're only your answers.
So share them with us and let us know what you're thinking, what your favorite sad song is.
Hey, if you're looking for something to do on December 4th...
Please, please, please come on out and join us if you're in the Madison area for a screening of a film I made 20 years ago called The Godfather of Green Bay.
It is the 20th anniversary screening sponsored by Civic Media, John and Gordy, The Morning Show, and WMDX, and Doundren's Distilling of Madison.
Great sponsorship behind the show.
Thursday, December 4th, the doors open at 6 p.m.
The show starts at 7.
At the beautiful, brand new,
Still kind of brand new atwood music hall in Madison in the Atwood neighborhood a great film if I I mean a great a great crowd film I don't want to say I made a great film, but it's a good film and people like it Audiences like it.
There are some big laughs.
There's some funny northern Wisconsin bar characters characters in the movie The Bodines did the soundtrack Kurt Newman of the Bodines more specifically wrote a great soundtrack and a great score
Let us use some Bodine songs.
It's a really fun film.
Tony Golden, Lauren Holly, Thomas Lennon from Reno 911, Lance Barber from Young Sheldon, me, Tracy Thorpe from Second City, just an outstanding actor.
So many great actors we cast from the Midwest too.
It's going to be a really fun night.
I would love it if you could join us.
Tickets are only $10 and a dollar from each ticket goes to the Humane Society of Dane County.
So it's going to be a lot of fun.
So I hope you can come on out and say hello.
There's gonna be a Q&A afterwards some mingling some food some drink I'll be there.
We'll huddle together in the December cold in Madison and Warm up the night with a great movie and Conrad Krieger's presence.
He's gonna be there getting sound bites and interviewing people It's gonna
join the huddle.
Yeah, it's a while.
I'm gonna say huddle.
I mean kind of metaphorically We're not gonna be yelling break right before
we start the movie cool though
Get you in the mood for a Green Bay movie.
Absolutely.
And
if you like small town bar characters with Wisconsin accents, that's like, I could have shot this anywhere, but I love the, I love the Northern accent too.
That's why we, we shot it in Northern Wisconsin.
So, um, we talked a little bit about passwords.
I got to tell you, I had a burger last night.
I was telling you this before the show.
Yeah,
and it was awful.
I and I won't say where it was from because this is your
place of worship I don't want to I would have to bleep it out
probably But I've been on this good program and I just was jonesing for some red meat last night and I set the heck with it I'm gonna eat a burger.
So I got a bacon double cheeseburger and I probably slept for four minutes last night
See, I know where you got it from and me thinking it's okay
I love this place as much as the next person, but if I'm on, you know, like a fast or something, I'm not going there for my
relief meal.
No, I know.
But, you know, I'm thinking I'm here anyway.
I was getting
gas.
Oh, I guess.
Oh, well, now you just ruined it.
You just ruined it.
You just gave it away.
No, there's the BP station or the holiday station is a killer burger.
But I just I should.
And I didn't want to do Taco Bell, you know,
because that
would have really.
been a fall from grace, you know,
my couple of my buddies were over last weekend.
And we were, you know, stayed out a little too late at bar clothes.
And we got back to my house and my friend goes, I'm going to order some Taco Bell.
You guys want anything?
I'm like, no, he's like, he's like, I'll pay.
Oh, yeah.
Six tacos.
I was like, I don't want any of the random meat that they put in there.
So I ordered their like Cinnabon
things.
My
son calls
those creamy balls.
And he knows I won't order them
if he calls them that.
They are that.
But you know what?
They're kind of good.
They're
really good.
They're really good.
Yeah.
Especially after I had a couple.
You don't really typically go to Taco Bell for your pastries.
But that's not a bad one, I will say.
Yeah.
But it was an awful night of sleep.
And I, you know, you kind of crave something and then you're like, why did I do that?
But you kind of have to do it too.
Otherwise, I'll just wonder, do I still
like bad food?
You still, you have to satisfy those cravings sometimes.
I know.
Hey, the guys from Make the Call, Gray and Parker will be here.
Conrad's gonna join the discussion.
They are the hosts of Make the Call here on Civic Media.
We're gonna talk some packers, some badgers, some bucks.
Don't go anywhere.
It is a jam-packed show here tonight, folks, and it is great to have you with me.
It's Nightlight with Pete Schwabba on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
I really wanna go with
Happy Friday, everybody.
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Night Light.
It is so great to have you here.
We're having some fun tonight.
We got a jam-packed show.
Great guests.
We're talking sports, music, comedy, all the things in life that make us feel good.
And right now, our question of the night, folks, is, what is your favorite sad song?
855-752-4842-855-75 Civic.
Jim and Kenosha, he's in the 262, says,
or his phone is in the 262 says taxi.
I think it's from Harry Chapin.
Oh, Harry Chapin has a few sad ones.
That's great, Jim.
Thank you.
Adam from Oregon in the 608 says Blink 182, Adam's song.
Only coincidental, song has my name.
Adam in Oregon.
Thank you, Adam.
I don't know that song.
You know that song, kind of?
I'm
not really much of a Blink 182 person.
I've heard a couple of their tunes though.
Yeah, they got some good songs.
I don't know if I know that one, but keep those texts coming, folks.
We will read them throughout the course of the show.
We get a lot of texts on social media.
We'll get to it at some point too.
But right now, let's kick off an extended sports part of tonight's episode of Nightlight.
Joining me now on the stream to talk some sports is, well, we have a couple hosts coming.
Right now we have one of them.
We'll bring Parker in, right, Khan?
You feel comfortable having just one of them here and not both?
Or is that going to be weird for you?
No, no, no.
Parker's great.
Parker's great.
Parker's fantastic.
Parker also joins us now over the stream.
One of the hosts of Make the Call here on Civic Media, which you can catch Saturday mornings at 7 AM.
And you might recognize, if you do tune into the show, Conrad Krieger's voice is one of the hosts as well.
And Greg Gunderson, I'm assuming, will be along at some point.
But hey, buddy, how are you, Parker?
I'm doing alright, Pete.
You know, I got my nap in tonight, which was very good.
Woke up 15 minutes ago, down to sandwich, and now I'm here.
You took a nap
at five o'clock.
That's impressive.
Well, I got home around three, and I'm like, you know what?
If I don't take a nap.
That half hour with Pete's gonna be a lot longer
than half
hour.
It's gonna be a slow night for me.
Well, I appreciate you getting a few winks to make yourself more into the interview.
That's fantastic.
But I don't think, first of all, I can't nap.
I can lay down and space out.
I just can't sleep.
And it's very frustrating.
It's before working here.
I was not a nap guy, but then I started doing mornings with Pat Crilo.
And I wake up at four o'clock now.
So
it's a little
different now.
And I need to nap.
Does Pat nap?
That's my question.
Oh, he has to write it, right?
He's he's older.
He's
gotta write.
I don't know.
Pat is older, but slightly immature.
So I'm oh, I don't I don't want to judge him for and no.
We love Pat, Pat's awesome, and he must be a blast to work with.
We love
him because he's slightly immature.
Exactly.
Well, hey, it's great to have you here.
Hey, do you have a favorite sad song, Parker?
You know, when he said that I was trying to think of something, I'm not a sad song kind of guy.
When I'm listening to music, I'm trying to usually lighten the mood.
So most of my stuff is kind of happy fun.
I can't think of... When we get back from break, I'll let you know.
I'll figure something out.
Have you ever had your heart broken Parker?
Maybe I should have prefaced this, you know, ask you that first.
It hasn't felt awesome, but I wouldn't say broken.
Fair enough.
Well, let's jump into some sports talk here because the Packers specifically have two big games coming up within just a few days.
They're playing on Thanksgiving against Detroit and they've got the Vikings this weekend.
And I'm going to ask you and Conrad.
How do you think that's gonna go?
Like they've kind of been, you know, they had two surprising losses.
They eked out a win last week.
You know, they're gonna turn it around at some point.
And I know this as a Bears fan.
They're gonna turn it around right before they play my Bears, most likely, because that's just what happens.
But how do you see the next two games going, you guys?
I mean...
I think the Packers right now, as I heard about Toyotathan, it's on.
Jordan Love is definitely gonna lock it in right now for whatever reason this time of year, causation or correlation with Toyotathan, I don't know.
He certainly does seem to lock it in around this time of year because I think it's the time of year where...
You're in a spot that you just need to frankly.
We were looking at the standings earlier today And I think this is more true for the Vikings frankly than it is for the Packers the Vikings I believe are sitting at What is it six and seven or four
and six six eight?
Yeah.
Yeah
That's in the rest of the division is above 500 by at least two games.
So if you if you lose right now, if you're the Vikings, then you're digging yourself into hole and it's going to be pretty hard to get back out of that.
So I think that the Vikings are really going to scratch and claw in this game.
I think JJ McCarthy is going to try to have a good game, obviously.
I'm not sure that I think that he should be an NFL quarterback entirely.
But the Vikings are always the thorn in the Packers side.
I'm really interested in What former Packers running back Aaron Jones is gonna be doing is he comes into Lambo?
I think Packers will win on Sunday this week, but I think it's gonna be tough Next week on Thanksgiving.
I am not looking forward to it.
I I think the Lions are gonna absolutely Take out some bad memories on us
Really?
Okay.
Well, let's sticking with the Vikings for now.
Do they have con as their pass rusher back?
Is it Greenlaw?
I'm not sure.
I
haven't checked into that
because this could be another 10-7 game really like I don't see JJ McCarthy doing anything against the Packer defense.
He's just and I don't totally agree with you.
Parker like I still think he's going to be a decent quarterback down the road, but he's very far away from that right now.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
I think I I don't know what the Vikings real situation is because earlier this year it seemed like they didn't want him to play at all.
They do.
They did the kind of weird thing with the injury list when he was on it.
And it didn't really feel like he needed to be on it.
And then all of a sudden he was off and he was starting and was like, Hey, I don't really know how they got upgraded.
But I don't know.
It's very interesting.
I think that he
It was overhyped coming out of college.
I think he was in a pretty easy system over there at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh Granted he won a national title and he's got to be doing something right and he's getting paid millions of dollars to be a quarterback So he's got to be doing something right
right now a great point.
What do you think con defensive battle?
Well, you know one thing I haven't seen from JJ McCarthy is his you know Dealing under pressure.
Can he do it?
And that's what the Packers
That's what they're going to do.
The front line is just going to go for him.
It's going to be like three seconds, probably.
He's going
to be under
pressure instantly with Micah Parsons, probably getting double teamed.
And then Rashon Gary on the other side, which Rashon Gary is amazing as well.
So
it's a true test for JJ McCarthy.
Can he survive under pressure like that?
Absolutely.
But you've got Brian Flores on the other side and a pretty good defense there too.
I mean, I like the idea.
I like Green Bay's offense doing better against the Vikings than the other way around, but it still could be a kind of a slog.
You know, it just comes down to our receivers actually catching the ball.
Yeah.
Yes.
It's just that simple.
All right.
So that's, uh, uh, we've got Parker Olson on the stream folks.
We're talking, uh, he is one third.
Conrad being another third of the hosts of make the call here on civic media Which you can hear 7 a.m.
On Saturday mornings.
We're talking Packers over the next couple couple weeks not even a couple couple weeks It's five or six days from now.
They'll be playing the Detroit Lions as well and Parker you said you thought the Lions were gonna get some revenge
Yeah, it's just with how badly
The Packers beat them, frankly, at the week one or week two.
I just have a hard time seeing that Dan Campbell coach team doesn't come in absolutely ready to bite off your kneecaps.
Because that's the type of team that they are.
And they're also significantly improved from what they were at the beginning of the season.
Because I think that the Lions were just kind of trying to figure out what was going on.
without Ben Johnson being there anymore.
Obviously he's over to your bears now.
So I think that they had to get their feet under them a little bit.
And I think that they've done that pretty well.
It's been kind of a weird phenomenon this year.
It seems like with nobody in the NFL really seeming like the team.
Maybe
the Eagles.
Maybe the Eagles.
I'll give you
maybe the Eagles, but like the bills that.
They lost to the Texans last night.
They're not, they're not the team.
Um, they've had a couple of their losses Conrad, I don't know about you, but it's, I don't think that there is a very significant front runner, except, except maybe the Eagles.
I give you that Pete.
The Broncos, you know, they're, they're the best.
Yeah.
No, I'm scared.
They're
joking, but no, you got Sean Peyton.
I mean, they're pretty decent.
You don't want to play them to playoffs, right?
No, I think, I think they're a good team.
I just think they're the worst, best team.
Okay.
Yeah, that's a very good point.
I'm a fan of it.
You know one thing I'll say with this Lions and Packers matchup They have something similar to us is that they lost one of their best Dump-off targets like we did Tucker Kraft.
We lost they lost Sam LaPorta
Yeah,
who's I mean he's gonna be out maybe the rest of the year now.
So
really
yeah,
so
They're tight end to is kind of like our tight end to where they don't do much.
They're just out there.
What do you guys think about like?
I mean, you probably love this.
I mean, Dan Campbell calling the plays and he goes for it.
I think he was 0 for five last week.
Like he's not doing his guys any favors.
Is he?
When you go for it that many times and a couple of the times you're like, what are you doing?
It's, it's such a weird age of football that we're in because five years ago that happens.
You're calling for the guy's job.
Um.
Now with the analytics and everything, and everyone for whatever reason has really embraced that over the last couple of years, which I did not really expect in football.
It's almost acceptable to do that.
And frankly, it's kind of encouraged at some points.
I think there needs to be a little more common sense, maybe, with when we're going forward on fourth down.
But you know what?
If it ain't broke, and sometimes it's not, it seems like.
Yeah, I don't know.
I would love to know what the analytics said when he was over five.
A couple of those times, it was probably the analytics were on his side.
The other times, he's just like, oh, this is me.
This is what I do.
And it's like, well, OK, that's just the kind of guy.
I like the guy.
I just think it's like, I think he's kind of a meathead if that's what he's going to do all the
time.
With it being the Eagles, I want to push my luck on the fourth downs.
And it could have been closer a little bit if they kicked some of the field goals, too.
You know, what are you gonna do?
Sometimes you go for it and just doesn't pan out.
So what do you guys say with predictions over the next six seven days here?
Well, how do you think the Packers are gonna come out of this?
I think they go one in one and then I think Maybe a one or two score win against the Vikings Yeah, I will be surprised if it's not a two-score loss to the Lions
I
was, I'm going to say the same thing.
I think it's going to be a one-one.
We went against the Vikings and lose to the, to the Lions.
Um, you know, the, the Lions are a really good football team.
And with us actually having a little bit of in week two, we looked like an orchestrated team actually, like our defense played well or offense
played
well.
The, these past, I don't know, five weeks, it's like offense is doing something.
Then the defense sucks.
Defense
is doing something.
Our offense can't do anything.
So we need to get that in order before we beat these, you know, these really good teams.
Absolutely.
Do you guys have a prediction on the rest of the season?
Like I said this, I really mean this.
I think the Packers are going to turn it around.
They always seem to.
But it's a tough division.
Yeah, I think we had this on.
We're going to talk about this tomorrow morning.
I make the call in our first segment.
I think that all of us were pretty much in the same boat of they're going to be a little bit better, but they're not going to be awesome.
I think I've got them going four and three.
I think that they're going to split the series with Chicago.
And I think they're going to split the series with the Vikings.
It's a couple of tough ones in there.
I'm not too sure that they can come out of that better than five and two.
I'm taking four and three.
Four and three probably get your playoffs.
You know, I'm thinking 11 five and one so that means we lose two I think I think we can win against the the Broncos and in the Ravens I think we can do it, but the Vikings and these divisional games They just feel like a tougher battle all the time.
Yeah.
No great point Okay, we're gonna come back.
We're gonna do a very quick break here and we'll come back with more sports talk Maybe we'll get into some badgers, but you're just gonna have to hang around and find out Parker Olson is here.
It's peach wabba and nightlight on the civic media radio network
Welcome back to Nightlight.
I'm Pete Schwabba.
Adam in the 608 says, Olivia Newton-John, hopelessly devoted to you.
Yeah, that's kind of a sad song.
That was from Grease.
Great movie.
And thank you for the contribution.
Adam, much appreciated.
We'll get to your social media text in just a bit.
Got quite a few of those, we'll get to.
Right now, we're talking with Parker Olson, one of the hosts of Make the Call here at Civic Media, which you can catch every Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
A roundtable discussion of all things Wisconsin sports, Conrad Krieger, Parker, and Greg Anderson.
And then you guys, is Jimmy on every week?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
So, and Mike Clemmons.
He's the man.
He's the guy with the plan.
He actually hosts this thing.
We just kind of show up and he tells us, hey, talk.
And I'm like, okay, cool.
I knew he was like EP'ing it, you know, I knew he was like the executive producer I didn't realize he was along for the ride and he is the busiest guy He's got to be one of the busiest guys at civic media.
I when he comes on the show I'm like I can't even believe we got him like but he's awesome, so
Yeah, I'm not sure when he sleeps.
I'll be on both of them him and my comments.
I don't know what either of them
sleep
All right, so I I want to
bring up one more thing about the backers.
This Toyodathon.
You guys, you mentioned it a little bit.
Are you superstitious?
Is that a thing?
I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious.
I can get behind a little Toyodathon magic.
Sure.
Well, it'll be interesting.
When will we know if it's a thing this year?
Like he's got to turn it around right now, right?
Yeah.
I mean, what is, what is he on now?
Is this his third year of doing this?
So, and he's off
to a good start.
So maybe there's something to it.
Maybe he really likes cold weather football.
Maybe that's it.
How about that?
You know, the numbers, the numbers don't lie.
I saw stat 30, like 30 touchdowns during the Toyota Thon and only four interceptions with like
4000 yards something around there and a really high completion rate.
So it's something about
doing the
heck noticed
that Talk about a stat geek.
Holy smoke.
Someone was on that Hey Parker.
So what do you think about Luke fickle?
Well, you know, I feel like you know I thought the Badgers would be where Indiana is now and I'm kind of bummed because that's my like college sports I'm all about Wisconsin and I it really hurts me that they're not better
Yeah, I think it hurts a lot of us.
Strangely, it also hurts the economy really badly.
It
was an article recently on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about the economic impact of badger football not being good.
And I'm not going to throw any numbers out because I'm totally going to miss because I don't remember what it was that I read.
millions of dollars.
It's a lot of economic impact when the bad football team is not good.
But yeah, for Fickle, same boat as you.
I honestly thought that they would be maybe not quite to where Indiana is right now, but I certainly thought that they would be a top 15 team with him.
Because frankly, we've gotten used to the Badgers being the top 25 team at all the time.
Frankly, I can't think of a worse season.
then like bubble of top 25 and now boy they just they're scrapping along for a win.
It's really upsetting to see.
It's really sad.
I do think that they're going to turn it around a little bit next year.
I think after Chris McIntosh, the AD at Wisconsin, after he came out and said, you know what?
This is our guy.
We don't blame him.
We blame what's going on with the landscape of college football because you got to remember that too.
Fickle got hired at Wisconsin when NIL was becoming a big thing.
The
transfer portal was still becoming like basically everyone's a freak.
Asian now.
Yeah.
Um, so he's got, he's got a tough task with a school that frankly, even though we were just talking about it being a bubble, top 25 team, it's not, it doesn't have a lot of, um, cashier.
It's
not
a big flashy football school that a lot of guys want to go to.
So he's got a tough task.
Um,
Certainly hoping that he can turn it around.
I think with the commitment from the ad he's gonna get a little bit something going on
I think their problem is that they tied their wagon to the Buickathon instead of the Toyota so I don't know if the bad Hey, we've got Gray has just joined us over the stream now great Gundersen also one of the hopes of Make the call so great.
How are
you doing great guys?
Can you hear me?
Yeah
Good to see you.
Excellent, excellent.
Fantastic to be back on Nightlight and so sorry I'm late, y'all.
It's deer hunting season starting tomorrow, of course, as you know, but I'm from an area that, as you can tell by the plaid, is heavily affected.
So the schedule for the afternoon somewhat controlled itself.
What have I missed?
Oh, man.
Well, we closed up our Packer talk and Conrad and Parker educated me on what's going to happen in the next few days, which is nice.
And we sort of shifted to Badger football a little bit.
Do we want to keep these guys through the break?
And we can leave them right up to Joel Karnak.
Yeah.
Because Joel's going to come on to talk about deer.
Are you guys deer hunters?
I have been in my past.
I'm not currently I do when we need food though.
So times are not as lean So if they do get lean again, I'll be out there again.
You hunt for food
Wow.
Yeah, yeah subsistence only I want to keep the herd intact as best as I can and it's had some trouble the last few years So I have no business taking trophy bucks or or
any other form
of deer when as far as I'm concerned The herd could grow if I don't so in some day someday I may need the deer that I'm leaving behind this year as far as I see it.
Well, that's a great answer
So do you have an opinion on the, how do you think the Packers, we got about a minute and then we'll come back.
If you guys don't mind hanging through the news, we can keep you for a few more minutes too and then we'll let you get on with your Friday night.
Absolutely.
How do you think the Packers are going to come out of this next, the next few days here at Gray?
I think we get a win against the Vikings.
I think JJ McCarthy is not going to be able to figure it out in time for that, but there are some scary possibilities like Justin Jefferson taking advantage of some missing defenders and some defenders that haven't been
playing up to snuff, you know, if the pass rush doesn't get home and the cover, the corners don't cover well, that's going to be a problem.
But if one of those two does their job pretty well, I don't think the Vikings can stand up against it.
You guys are all in cahoots.
on the next few days.
That's pretty impressive.
And I'm sure there's that kind of cohesion on the show.
Check out, make the call Saturday mornings at 7 a.m.
Gray is here.
Parker, two of the hosts and Conrad Krieger joins them and Jimmy Cuska.
That's all the sports knowledge you need around the same table.
So we got a lot still to come, folks.
Act two and three are going to be outstanding.
Joel Karnick is going to join us in just a few minutes after the news and we'll keep these guys for a couple more minutes.
It's a bar ban Friday night.
Our Paltteri bar comes by and then was
He's a Wisconsin native and very funny Tom Clark joins us with his very funny wife, Steph Clark.
They will be here too.
You're here on a great night.
It's Night Light with Pete Schwabba on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.
This is Night Light with Pete Schwabba.
Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.
And now a guy who considers a silver medal, a participation award, Pete Schwabba.
Hey, welcome back to Night Light.
Great to have you here folks.
We are kicking off our number two here the second act as I like to call it on a jam-packed show Conrad and I had we opened the show With a talk about passwords that once and once again, I just got off on a tangent don't I
yeah It's always just one two three four,
you know, it's never on it's never on the sheet, but you roll with it.
I give you credit for that
So we covered that.
Conrad's co-host, Greg Anderson and Parker Olsen are here.
You can catch that show at 7 a.m.
on Saturday morning here on Civic Media.
We will get back to those guys in just a minute.
After that interview, Joel Karnick will be here at 610 to talk Dear Hunter's Roundup, a really cool thing he's been doing for years over at 98Q country.
And we've got comedians.
Tom Clark and Steph Clark will be here later in the show as well, talking about dates they have here in Wisconsin.
That is Milwaukee is Tom's hometown and Steph is a SoCal girl who has, I think, thrown her arms around Wisconsin.
She was a lot of fun last time she was here at Con.
True that.
And she puts up with Tom, so that's kind of cool too.
And it's a Bar Band Friday night.
Terry Barr is here at 735 with great new tunes and really fun conversation.
Tonight's question of the night is, what is your favorite sad song?
We gotta catch up on some texts.
We'll do that in a little bit, but be part of the show, folks.
Let us know at 855-752-4842-855-75 Civic.
You can also text us on the app.
The Civic Media app is very easy to use, and you can text us there too, or if you are watching the radio on the stream, you're welcome to leave us a stream comment as well from YouTube, Facebook, or...
X Twitter.
Nick Marshall in the 608 says, she's gone by Bob Marley and Careless Whisper by Wham.
Careless Whisper is a great one.
That's a very sad song.
I hope the Packers aren't singing a sad song for you guys because you're getting a lot of mileage.
Like, what is your favorite season to cover you guys?
I'm talking, this question is directed at Mr. Parker Olson, Greg Anderson, and Conrad Krieger, the hosts of Make the Call.
Favorite season to cover.
I would say probably this time of year, honestly, just because there's so much going on, football is my number one thing.
But once you get basketball going, it feels like you've got a lot going on and it's not quite overwhelming usually.
So I'm a big fan of that.
I know NFL for you, Con, right?
You know, I'd say it is this time because basketball also starts around this time as well.
It's a crazy time of year,
especially when
the
baseball
playoffs are going on too.
That's insane.
It's like I like one of the sports equinox happens when it's like there's hockey hockey just starting out I believe baseball basketball and football.
Absolutely.
All right.
So you want to give us a quick update on the Bucks Parker?
Did they overspend for Miles Turner?
What are your thoughts there?
I will say that I
Don't follow the bucks incredibly closely.
But what I can tell you is when you bring somebody in that, frankly, you kind of just bought, you should expect them to be a top performer on your team.
I'm not 100% sure that that's exactly what's going on.
You certainly has not been what they wanted him to be.
Conrad, I know that you can probably talk about this a little bit better than I can.
But it just doesn't quite seem like the chemistry is there, doesn't quite seem like he's got, doesn't seem like he's cooking like Jordan Love and Toyota Fun, which is what we probably are getting.
It's
the Buick of Fun.
That's
the
problem.
Yes.
You know, I just, I'm concerned with Miles Turner a lot.
I mean, it's just like,
Last year, he did have a great point guard in Tyrese Halliburton, who averages, like, you know, eight assists a game.
So, I mean, he'd always be in the right spot.
And just with this Bucks team, it doesn't feel like the chemistry is always there, especially with Yanis out.
But
when
Yanis is out, he's trying to be that top guy, and it just can't, it just doesn't happen.
He averages, like, 13 points, which, how much you pay for him is not what you want.
This has been great, guys.
I just want to say, does it bother?
You guys, the co-host, the Conrad's real favorite team is not the Milwaukee Bucks.
Uh-oh.
Who is it?
I'm
breaking a story here.
I
guess, yeah, I guess I didn't say.
This is news to me.
I break
all the big news.
Where ever Kevin Durant goes.
Yeah, I, you know, the first, all right.
Let me explain, okay?
The first basketball game I ever watched was Seattle SuperSonics.
Yeah.
And Katie, that was his rookie year, and it was the best basketball I've ever seen.
So you stuck
with him.
That's loyalty.
I like that.
Listen, you guys, this has been really fun.
We're about to bring another colleague of ours on the show.
So I'm going to let you guys go.
But keep up the great work and make the call.
Love the title.
Love the show.
You guys are fun to talk to.
It's just keep up the great work.
And thanks so much for your time tonight.
Yeah, thanks for having us on.
We appreciate it.
You got it.
That's Parker Olson and Greg Gunderson.
We are letting them get on with their Friday night.
Conrad, you're still stuck here for the foreseeable future.
I was about to
say, thanks Pete.
Take
it
off.
He's gonna take a powder.
All right, we're gonna pivot here and we're gonna talk about another sport because I don't think deer hunting really gets mentioned when you think big sports, but it is, it's an institution here in Wisconsin and there's a really cool thing going on over in Park Falls.
So joining us right now to talk about it from 98Q Country is Morning Show host and program director, our panel Joel Karnick.
Hey buddy, how are you?
I'm doing hang on I'm wiping some tears from my eyes because I just got finished listening to at this moment by Billy bearer the beaters.
Oh, that's a great one Joe
That one always makes me cry from family ties.
Yeah.
Oh, that was a great song.
Billy Vera and the beaters.
Oh, yeah.
It's so funny how a song like that just touches you.
I thought you were going to be funny and say like one of these deer hunting novelty songs that comes up every year, you know, by the Uppers or whatever.
Well, the 30 the 30 point buck song does actually have weeping in the song after they finish not getting the deer.
So yeah, I guess that would that quality.
Hey, speaking of not getting the deer, Joel.
I have a friend and a colleague and a partner on a couple projects named Bob Brown.
He made a film called Escanaba in the Moonlight, which is all about deer hunting, starring Jeff Daniels.
Have you seen the film?
It's the best worst movie I've ever seen, yes.
I cannot wait to
tell them
that.
That's great.
It's shot in and around Upper Michigan, and they even make reference to Menominee.
I live right across the river in Marinette, so I got to kick out of that too.
But it came out before I even met Bob, but a fun deer hunting movie.
And deer hunters love it.
They go, that movie made so much money when it came out because these deer hunters kept going over and over to see it, like they really embraced it.
Yeah, I back when it came out, I actually owned a video store here in our small town.
And that thing had a waiting list of about a month.
People people would call every day saying is that's kind of in the moonlight back in yet?
Is it back in yet?
That's crazy.
That's excellent.
Hunting is a big tradition in here in northern Wisconsin, obviously, Pete.
And tomorrow night we kick off.
We just open up the phones for a couple hours and we hear from camps all around the Northwood.
It's a crazy couple hours.
that we do eight of the nine nights of the gun deer season.
Such a great idea for a show.
And for people that didn't hear you on this show last year, Joel, or just forgot, tell them a little bit like what kind of stories do people hunters call in and tell you?
Well, I mean it's basically just people being people so I mean everyone's around we get people who have Prescripted stuff, which is fine, but it's usually just people calling in saying how they did in the hunt picking on the people that they're That they're currently playing a little buck uke or with or whatever it may be Sending a shout out to somebody.
So, you know, and we're not reinventing the radio here.
It's just people honestly just being themselves and enjoying time with family picking at each other
I mean it's just it's not just the guys either it's the ladies too calling in we get young kids calling in and it's it's insane if people want to go to youtube and look at 98q country we've got last last year's studio feed on there and you'll get an idea of what happens and we're going to stream it again this year because uh people apparently um well it takes them a little
about 10 seconds to realize why, you know, me and Gray, why we're on the radio, Gray Gunderson, you know, we, we, we, we closed the show and they're like, Oh, so that's why they're on the radio.
I should have just kept Gray.
I don't know why I let him go.
So tell us a little bit about the history of this.
This is such a cool thing, Joel.
You've been doing it for like 25 years or something like that, but Dear Hunter's Roundup is like a 50 year old tradition.
Maybe.
Yeah.
I mean, it goes back.
I mean, really it started.
It's almost a service because back before people did not have landlines at cabins, no cell phones, of course.
You know, people would go out hunting in the woods and they'd stay out there for a while.
Sometimes they'd stay the whole week or two, three days.
their loved ones would call from back home and they would send them a message, you know, on the radio saying, you know, hope you guys are doing okay.
You know, we'll have supper for you tomorrow night.
You know, if you want to pick up a loaf of bread when you come home.
I mean, it was, it was almost like communicating to hunters who had no other way to communicate back.
And now it's kind of really transformed into the world of...
where everybody has a cell phone and now it's something different.
It's kind of the same Pete, but it's just a lot different.
The necessity of the communication isn't there anymore, but the entertainment value is extremely high.
That's so great.
Joel Karnak is my guest.
He is the program director and morning host at 98Q country here under the Civic Media umbrella.
Joe what okay, so was this a natural thing for you?
Did you have to learn more about deer hunting or are you like a tried-and-true serious deer hunter yourself?
Well, I grew up hunting my dad always took the week off of deer hunting So from my youth seven eight years old all the way up until junior senior in high school We hunted near Boysville, Wisconsin monomony Eau Claire area shotgun territory So he had to be fairly close to the air so so we had a tradition I moved away after that and haven't hunted a lot
since I left, but that tradition and really grasping that sense of family and just great memories I have of my late dad, and you can see over my shoulder here, my father-in-law.
Uh, the late B. J. Peterson, who was a state trooper up here in Washburn County.
Uh, he was a big hunter too.
And so we've got, uh, you know, a lot of family tradition with it.
So yeah, I mean, you know, I'm not an expert, but I know what a rut is and I know what the buck scrapes are.
And I can, I can talk the lingo with the boys and girls out in the woods if I need to.
Well, I can't wait for you to tell me what those things mean.
We're going to do a quick break.
Um, from the text line, Scott in the six, oh, eight says, uh, this was for the guys that just left.
Unfortunately.
Uh, yes.
Luke Fickle a problem, but Chris McIntosh needs to go first.
Well, that's interesting.
Hey, folks, Joel Karnak is here.
You're listening to Nightlight with Peach Waba, and right about now is the perfect time to highlight a new segment on our show.
Your cocktail of the week, courtesy of Sturgeon Spirits.
This week, their featured cocktails are the Tipsy Elf and Salty Siren.
Here's a recipe to make yourself a salty siren at home.
Add one ounce of mocha liqueur, a cold brew vodka made from Oshkosh's own black pearl coffee roasters, a half ounce of vanilla vodka, a half ounce of caramel syrup, a dash of salt, top it off with half and half.
To make a Tipsy Elf at home, take
one ounce of candy cane vodka, one ounce of mocha liqueur, an ounce of Irish cream and top that off with half and half.
Or even better, stop by their tasting room in Oshkosh and mention our show Nightlight to get a dollar off this month's featured cocktail or grab one of their Dear Widow weekend specials this Friday and Saturday.
That's Sturgeon Spirits, local flavor mixed with a little creativity.
More Nightlight after this quick commercial break.
Nobody
on
the road.
Nobody on the beach.
Feel it in the air.
The summer's out of reach.
Empty streets.
Empty streets.
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Nightlight.
That's my favorite sad song, or one of them.
I've probably got way too many.
I like to keep myself in a constant state of melancholy.
That's Don Henley, Boys of Summer.
What was the name of your song again, Conn?
I didn't even know
it.
It's Apologize by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic.
Okay.
Well done.
On the stream right now is one of our Civic Media colleagues from 98Q Country, Joel Karnick, whose favorite sad song was Billy Vera and the Beaters, and that is a great song.
They featured it in the show Family Ties.
Great choice, Joel.
So you've been in radio 37 years.
You host this really cool show that you describe on your website as a train wreck.
Can you explain that?
It sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Well, it is.
Do
people start talking about personal problems or something or what?
Let me just say that my hand is never too far from the drop button.
And I've had an ability in my 40 plus years in radio to kind of sense when the train wreck to see the light coming at the other end of the tunnel.
And sometimes people will try to tell a joke or say something and I'll just say, you know, maybe save that for another time and I'll drop it and let it go.
And you know, I've been doing this 25 years here in Park Falls up here in Northern Wisconsin.
And I think
I think only maybe two or three times, we may have been close to an FCC violation, but when you consider the thousands of calls that we've taken, and really the blood alcohol level of some of the people that call, it really is crazy to think that we've been able to continue this.
I tell our listeners every year, I said, as long as you guys behave yourselves, we can continue to do this, and they do every single year.
So I'm proud of our listeners, you know, radio listeners are some of the, some of the best and most dedicated and I'm proud of our guys up here and gals.
So how can people listen to this?
Like if they don't live in Park Falls and can't hear it live, is it posted on a podcast?
If people just want to call and hear the camaraderie and the stories?
Well, on the Civic Media app, they can tap on 98Q.
They can go to 98Qcountry.com.
They can go to the, you can go to YouTube 98Q country.
I'll just run it all together.
So any of those, we stream them all on there.
For those who are up hunting this weekend muskie 101 and Hayward will be simulcasting this year and 98.3 FM also We'll have it on live.
We go six to eight sometimes we go a little bit longer.
We've got people that
Those first few nights are pretty crazy.
But a lot of people use email now and use other ways, comment through YouTube.
So let's take it a little heat off the phone lines a little bit.
Back in the day, we had five or six phone lines and now not quite as many phone lines because a lot of people like to communicate through text and messaging and emailing.
So that's fine.
Sure.
I'm just going to tell you this story.
We had, I made this movie called The Godfather of Green Bay years ago over in the Marinette area.
And Tony Goldman plays this, the title character, he plays the big Jake Norquist, the Godfather of Green Bay.
His first day on the set, he's in a deer blind and he's supposed to be shot at by these gangsters that find him in the woods.
Well, he, he stands up and he goes, Hey, Pete.
Someone just missed his head.
We almost had like an Alec Baldwin incident and there was a whole like a blank I don't even know what it is.
I'm not a gun guy, but oh my god It was so scary and it went right through the deer blind Which reminds me to tell people to be careful out there starting tomorrow What what have you heard?
What are some of your favorite stories if you have one or two?
I
guess you know
We have so many people that that battle over who got the deer You know of who shot it sometimes people shoot at the same time I mean we hear so many one of my favorite personally is one that my my dad told me what I was younger and he told us the fact that that one of my uncles who was
who was one of those guys that would corner you at the family reunion, you know, he told the tale about the fact that he, you know, that he shot at a deer and he missed and his
And his nephew, they came around the corner and his nephew shot the deer and they were bragging about who actually shot the deer.
And they said, well, there was only one hole in the deer.
How could that have possibly been?
And he said, well, he says, I'm such a good shot.
He says, my shot ended up exactly where yours did.
It was in the exact same hole.
So that's why there was only one.
one hole in there so he claimed the deer and we always used to pick up my dad too.
I mean the stories you tell are just so good and you know this isn't a true one but we always used to tell my dad that he he fell asleep in the woods so often that whenever he got a deer we'd always check the site at the end of the gun because we're pretty sure there was hair on there because the deer would come up and sniff them and it would trigger the gun just by flipping his nose up and that's how he gets the deer so everybody's got their stories everybody's got their traditions
And as, like we always tell the kids, they'll tell their story of how they got their first buck or something.
And we always say, yeah, that story will get better in 10, 15 years.
We'll prove on that.
Joel, that's fantastic.
Thank you as always, buddy, for being here.
We've got about maybe a little less than a minute.
Are you binge watching anything you could share with us?
Oh, we are binge watching Better Call Saul.
We never,
I watched, I watched, you know, the
a breaking bad.
We never got around to watching Better Call Saul.
But so my wife and I are binge watching right right now.
And I'm pleasantly surprised.
I'm not I'm not mad at the show yet.
I I kind of knew who Saul was.
And I love it.
I love Big Mike and the the hit man guy.
It's a great show.
So if folks haven't watched Better Call Saul, you can do it, I guess, before after Breaking Bad.
It's a great one.
Yeah, because it's a prequel, but even though it came out later, I agree with you.
I absolutely love that show.
Joel, thank you so much.
Have a great few days talking about such a fun time there at 98Q Country.
And thanks for taking time out to join us.
We don't have to just do this during deer season, too.
Come back anytime,
buddy.
Thanks, Pete.
Great to be on your show.
You got a
great thanksgiving to you and your family.
You too.
Thanks, Joel.
All right.
That's Joel Karnick.
Check out your Hunter's Roundup and you can watch the or you can listen to the podcast at civicmedia.us if you don't live in the Park Falls area.
Great stuff.
All right.
We're coming back with some comedy folks.
Tom Clark, Milwaukee native son and his wife, comedian Steph Clark will both be here to tell you about dates they have coming up here in Wisconsin and we'll read some of your text.
It's all happening here on Nightlight with Peach Waba on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
Welcome back.
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Nightlight.
Great to have you with me.
Conrad Krieger working the board, producing the show.
Having some fun here tonight.
We had some sports talk a little deer hunters round up with our pal Joel Karnak That's always fun to talk to Joel if you're looking for something to do December 4th And you happen to live in the Madison area or aren't opposed to a fun road trip Head down to the Atwood music hall in the Atwood neighborhood and join me and some of my civic media colleagues for a screening of a film I made 20 years ago called the Godfather of Green Bay It's gonna be a really fun night.
Some of the proceeds go to charity more specifically the Dane County
Humane Society.
The show is sponsored by John and Gordy of the WMDX Morning Show and Doundren's Distilling.
It's gonna be a great night.
Tony Goldman, Lauren Holly, Tom Lennon, Lance Barber, me, Tracy Thorpe, all kinds of great actors from Wisconsin.
Fill the screen and the music is by the Bodeen's who are another great Wisconsin band.
Lots of fun small town bar characters and a real kind of a audience, a good audience movie, a good film to watch with other people.
The Atwood Music Hall is beautiful.
And like I said, it's for a good cause.
John and Gordy will host a Q&A with me after the movie.
It's going to be a really fun night.
So hope to see you out.
Come on out and say hello.
Conrad will be there.
That's true.
I will.
What are you doing?
Are you going to
be trying to look busy or are you
actually going to be like a reporter and go get it?
I'll just put the mic up to your mouth every time you talk.
All right.
That's money well spent.
It's good they're bringing it down for that.
That's room at the concourse for that nonsense.
All right, it is a barbie on Friday night.
Terry Barr will be here at 7.35 with new music and a fun chat.
As always, our question of the night is what is your favorite sad song?
We'll catch up on texts in just a little bit, but right now, we are gonna turn and talk some comedy.
I'm very excited to have these next two guests on.
They're very funny stand-up comedians, individually, and they're even better when they're on the same show, which they do from time to time.
And it's great to have them both back here in a native Wisconsinite, Tom Clark, who's been all over TV and social media and is a damn good actor, is too.
We'll talk about that.
And Steph Clark, who happens to be married to Tom Clark, who I'm guessing has adopted Tom's home state, our home state of Wisconsin, except in the winter.
Steph is also a very...
accomplished stand-up comedian as well.
They've both been seen on outlets like HBO, Netflix, Comedy Central, probably the Food Network.
I don't know, but they're here now tonight over the stream joining me on Nightlight.
Hey guys, how are you?
Hey, how are you?
Was
it
like two years ago we did this because you did the fundraiser in Marinette, but I was thinking that was last year, but it's got to be almost two years now.
Yeah, it's two years ago.
Yeah.
Crazy.
It's our annual trip to Wisconsin.
Yeah, and a great month, December to come back to Ice Cold Wisconsin.
It's good to see you guys.
Do each of you or do you have the same or separate?
Do you have a favorite sad song?
Ooh, that's a good one.
What's the one where they play with the shelter animals?
Oh, I will remember you
by
Sarah McLaughlin.
That is like life-endingly sad.
That's a great one.
Oh, that's awesome.
Well, I'm glad you guys are here.
It's always fun when you're in the show.
And Tom, I just want to say before we start and talk about your stand updates, our mutual friend Rich Talarico, who's also a semi-regular guest like you guys here on Nightlight, put together a script reading of his new story on Zoom.
And
Tom played the lead role and I...
My son and I were both part of it and I was like, oh wow, Tom's playing the lead.
I didn't even know you acted at the time and you crushed it.
I'm like, Tom's a really good actor too.
Oh, thank you.
That was a funny script.
That was a lot of fun.
I didn't care for it, but I thought you were good.
No.
I thought Tom was on his phone looking up his IMDB
right now.
I better record this.
No, that was a fun script reading, but yeah, it was.
I've done, you know, I played a, one of my
most famous roles.
I played a murderer on The Closer and I actually murdered Rhea Seahorn from the new show Pluribus on Apple.
Yeah, but although we never met in person, that was the person I murdered.
Well, that seems like kind of inconvenient, but I'm sure you crushed it.
That's kind of cool.
What about you,
Steph?
We've created a web series called The Clerks and you can check that out on YouTube that we
Road and co-starred in so that's been fun doing the acting with him
very nice So what are you a Steph so you have acting aspirations to or you've acted in the past?
Yeah, I think it falls apart for me when I have to submit when I anytime there's like a form involved all my ambitions disappear
Well now it's so different because now you have to literally set up a studio in your house
set up lighting, set up sound.
When I have an audition, stuff has to read with me.
It's more pressure with stuff reading, because if I don't get it right, she's like, did you study this?
She doesn't tolerate multiple takes.
She's like two takes.
She's like Clint Eastwood.
We're like two takes and we're done.
It's like Eastwood of our townhouse.
That's right.
you get a talking to.
I'm with you.
I always feel like I don't have a home studio and I like that all the auditions now are over Zoom because I get included more because I live, you know, in the sticks.
But I also feel like, oh, my fireplace is behind me.
Like, how professional does this look, you know, where the unmade bed is behind me?
me, you know, so.
Right, right.
You gotta like really think about what's going on in the background.
Absolutely.
But if you have a fireplace, you're doing pretty well, you know.
That's true.
Just have all your awards up.
Or I'll do like the Mike Toomey joke and I'll go to Goodwill and buy trophies and put them up and hope people can't
read the fine print.
You gotta have a screening of your movie in California in Los Angeles.
It's great that everyone's coming out there.
Yeah, it's so funny.
Our best screening back in the day, I'm going back 20 years now, was at the Pacific Design Center.
It seats 500 people and we had standing room only.
And that's where like people came out and I apparently cast a lot of people that had kind of famous friends because Nia Vardalos came up to me and she's like, oh, I was calling Tom Hanks during the credits.
I love this movie.
And I'm just like, I think I almost fainted, you know.
But, uh, it was, it was magical.
So I would love to show it again out there.
I haven't showed it in years.
And when they asked me to do this, I'm like, yeah, let's do it.
I just hope people show up, you know, it's kind of nerve wreck.
Yeah.
No, it's great.
I can't, I can't remember how I saw it.
I think I probably rented it on Amazon, but yeah, I really enjoyed it.
I
love, uh, I look, cause I'm friends with Eric Price.
So I love that story of sort of.
Eric and Mark Borechart in that scene and Eric slowly started to get more lines than Mark.
But that was a great role for Eric.
Speaking of like Eric and just all the great actors we found, we had some from Chicago, we had a ton from Wisconsin and Northeast Wisconsin too, but Eric is a Milwaukee guy like you, Tom, and he
That part was written for an older guy, but he was so funny.
It's like, this is the guy.
Forget it.
We're done.
Eric is just such a sweetheart of a guy, too.
Oh, yeah.
Total Uper.
I mean, I do did comedy sports with him.
So, I mean, he just turns on those characters like, you know, it's nothing.
Yeah.
Well, let's talk a little bit about Milwaukee.
You guys have some dates coming up.
Tell us about where people can see you coming up in the next few weeks.
Yeah, we're excited.
Well, December 4th, we're coming out to we're going to be out in Windsor, Wisconsin, a place I never knew existed until a couple weeks ago.
But it's a beautiful theater.
They have different they have a lot of music.
This is their first comedy event.
That's Thursday.
It's eight o'clock.
They have a great dinner and stuff beforehand.
And
we're going to do a ugly sweater show for that one.
a contest yeah dress up and have fun and it'll be a good night
yeah and then Friday December 5th we're going to be in Kenosha at the Kenosha comedy club which is a great new club they get a lot of great comics coming through there and that's 30 I think it's inside a I don't want to say
it's
inside a it's inside a hotel I think it's a window
And then the sixth, we are at the Foundry 45 in Key Wascom, Wisconsin.
So that's with Jerry Walske's putting on that show.
I don't know if you remember Jerry.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that's, that's, that's the show Saturday night, eight o'clock and all the tickets are available on our website, TomClark.com or StephClarkComedy.com.
Oh, that's nice and you made it really easy too.
I do I do want to say that Kiewaskam has a special place in our hearts here at Night Light because we'll go head count.
Yeah, I'm from there.
That's where I grew up.
It's a beautiful place.
I've been to a wedding there and other stuff.
It's definitely go up to the foundry.
It's awesome there.
Yeah, we're excited.
It's all like an hour from Milwaukee.
So it's just nice.
We can
either stay or drive back to Milwaukee each night but
uh and people if you're listening in Milwaukee you can go to all three of them
that's right we'll give you we'll give you a punch card and you can win a prize
then you move yourself up to the front of the ugly sweater contest too
that's right i have a sweet ugly sweater that i'm gonna be wearing so for the battle people should come up
That's excellent.
All right, so that's three shows all within a good timeframe.
Where do you stay?
I know your dad moved out to LA.
Tom and Steph, I don't think you have any connections to Milwaukee.
Where do you get?
Do you just hotel it or Airbnb?
We have a cousin.
I have a cousin who stays.
We stay in their basement.
But it's like a very sweet, you know, HGTV style basement
set up.
Oh, that's awesome.
That's a Wisconsin basement, yeah.
the Midwestern, yeah, Wisconsin, you know, I want to build a bar in the basement type of basement.
And then I'd otherwise they're putting putting us up a couple of the places, but we go there and we always go to balustraries in Milwaukee for their pizza.
It's incredible.
I mean, it's it's it's I don't like balustraries in Milwaukee, 60 fourth and blue mom, best pizza in the country, I'm
gonna
say.
Wow, nice.
Tom Clark and Steph Clark are here.
They are comedians.
Tom is a native Milwaukee, I think it's Milwaukee and they both call Southern California their home now.
Steph is a SoCal girl who has embraced Milwaukee.
Tell me, Steph, the first time you went to Milwaukee, what were you thinking?
Did it meet your expectations or what was your mindset?
Well, also I have to say, your show is one of the...
best shows I've had in so long at that country club.
Oh yeah,
Little River.
They're just nice people out there.
I just love it.
It's just like they're very friendly and they're
They're a great audience.
They're there for a good time.
Sometimes in LA or near LA, it can be uptight.
And every time I've been, it's just so fun.
Even though it can be freezing, it's worth it because of the people there.
Wow, that's a great answer.
They're not afraid to let their hair down and have a few beers.
Pretty licked up.
I mean, that show that we did, and that was insane, the amount of
booze being consumed.
Oh, and Marinette.
Yeah.
That's what I tell people.
I say, like, you know, you're not going to get heckled, but you're going to have people that think they're whispering and are talking really loud because they're hammered.
That's what you'll have to deal with, you know.
Right.
That was out
there.
We got Lil' Irv on the stream is asking, where in Windsor did you guys say the name of the, uh, the joint?
The
Windsor.
Yeah.
Although Windsor and Windsor was.
And it's, I think it's the Windsor in, in Wisconsin.com.
I think the Windsor Wisconsin, but though the Windsor in Windsor, it's a new venue.
It's beautiful
and
really great dinner.
And the show I think is going to be upstairs and wear your ugly sweater.
Yeah, I love that.
All
right.
Classy point.
Oh, wow.
Look at what that's like.
I
never played rooms
like that.
You can come, even if you're not classier.
Come on out.
You missed the show with Marinette.
Go check them out at Windsor.
We're going to do a very short break.
We'll be right back with Tom Clark and Steph Clark, two very funny comics who are about to invade Wisconsin.
This is Pete Schwabba and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Night Light, Conrad Krieger, working the board tonight.
We are covering just about everything, some sports, some deer hunting.
We're talking comedy now with my current guests, Tom Clark and Steph Clark, and Terry Bar will be along at 7.35 for Bar Band Friday Night.
Tom and Steph, it's so fun to have you guys here.
We were talking about the Marinette gig you guys did for me, the football fundraiser that I do every year.
And that is like, I'm just gonna come out with it.
There are no comics that live in Marinette, Wisconsin.
But there are a couple guys that would do you know open mics and they're great guys and but so it's fun every year I get to have actual comics come into town and hang out with them and we did that and I laughed so hard and I know I've probably told this the last time you guys were here but another friend of ours Tim Kavanaugh was in town in Marinette 10,000 people doing a fundraiser a different fundraiser for my old high school Marinette Catholic Central which I think now is called St.
Thomas Aquinas and
Tim posted that he was going to be in Marin, Wisconsin on the same date you were, Tom.
And you, right?
You told me later when we went out for drinks, you were like, you saw Tim's post and you're like, did I get bumped?
Right.
I was like, what is, how is it literally the same night, a fundraiser for football or for a school?
Right.
What is the planning committee?
Or
it's a, it's a spike show.
Yeah.
It's like I was spiteful at the school that it.
It's like same night comedy like
what are the
last Marinette?
Yeah.
It was a tough, it was a tough conversation.
Tom, this is never easy.
Uh, we had to, we had to go in a different direction.
Uh, but you know, it's
happened.
That was, of course, but that was a really fun night hanging out with you, you guys.
And then, uh, Tim was there who's hilarious and his wife and then my son Joe was with and we hung out at that, uh, the bar that is painted in Packer colors called the short crest on short drive, which was really fun.
So very fun.
Oh yeah.
I know it's classic Wisconsin night with the snow falling.
It's perfect.
And by the way, your son, Joe, what he's doing on Instagram right now is so funny.
Oh, thanks.
He really really started doing those character videos.
And by the one I made funny before was you rewinding a movie and just rewinding all the way back to the beginning.
It's not me.
But it's it's really good.
He's really good.
He
just posted one that kind of went nuts and he was pretty excited.
So yeah, they're fun and it's it's just a world I don't really know you're very good you you guys have great social media presences and So it's yeah, that's exciting though But I want to ask you Tom because your dad is about to turn a hundred and that's amazing World War two vet if I remember correctly and But tell me what what you had to tell him when the fires hit
Southern California.
Please, please share with that with the listeners.
So, uh, so yeah, back in January, the fires hit the Palisades and they were kind of sparking up everywhere.
And, uh, I said, and, uh, I had to evacuate my dad.
And it's like, I said, I don't know if you've ever tried to evacuate somebody who's been through the Great Depression and World War two.
And you're like, Hey, we got to get out of here.
It's windy.
He's like, ah, I fought in World War II.
I'm not really worried about the barometric pressure.
I'll gut it out.
I can handle a breeze.
That's so funny, Tom.
Steph, let me ask you this.
Who are your influences comedically?
Like when you were starting out, was there someone you wanted to emulate or someone you kind of hold in really high regard even now?
Well, I've always been a Joan Rivers fan.
Oh,
nice.
So iconic.
When I guess when I was younger in middle school, high school, I loved Sarah Silverman.
So a lot of just women and stand up.
Carol Liefer.
Carol Liefer.
Yeah, she's a great comedic writer and a stand up.
Yeah.
She was
just women.
doing the damn thing.
Well, she was the inspiration to for Elaine, right?
On Seinfeld, Carol Liefer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I recently got to meet her.
So that was exciting.
I did a, I was at Flappers and she was on the early show with Leno.
So I got to tell her that I went to a live taping of her, of her sitcom when she had it on, on
WB.
WB.
And I said, I had gone to the live taping of it.
And it was my birthday in the whole
audience and the warm-up comic were singing me happy birthday and so that was nice to like share that with her that you know I'm a stand-up now
say what her reaction was
um she didn't seem to care
she was so proud of it and she's like
been wanting to meet her happened to get on the show with her at Flappers and Burbank.
And, you know, I was like, I was telling like approach your hero.
She, she ran in, she was at a vegan restaurant.
She ran into what's the director?
Oh,
Sean Baker,
the
director.
And
Steph's been a fan of him since like,
star, starlet from like, you know, early movie, early movies that he wrote and directed and
I saw him at this vegan restaurant, and I was just so nervous.
I didn't say anything.
I just watched him eat
like a
weirdo.
And after the Carol Liefer thing, I'm just like, yep, don't approach your heroes.
Just leave them alone.
That is so funny.
I went to see Jerry Seinfeld in 1987.
I was still a student at DePaul and I sat up front and my roommate at the time was kind of a really loud guy and had crazy hair.
So he had this crazy laugh.
So I saw Jerry at the Laugh Factory years later and I went up to him, same thing, you know, and I said, hey, I saw you at the Vic Theater in Chicago in 87.
We were sitting right up front.
My roommate had this crazy hair and laughing.
Seinfeld looks at me and goes, oh yeah.
No way.
He was just being a nice guy.
But now I'm like, there's no way he remembered me.
But that's kind of, I wish Carol Liefer should have been nice to you.
Hey, can we keep you guys for a few more minutes?
Yes.
All right, fantastic.
We're going to do the news.
Tom and Steph Clark are here.
They are coming to Wisconsin.
We'll recap their dates.
And our question of the night is, what is your favorite sad song?
It's Peach Wabba and Nightlight.
We're coming right back for act three on the Civic Media radio network.
Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.
This is Night Light with Pete Chwaba.
Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.
And now a guy who thinks outside the box and hates cliches.
Pete Chwaba.
Welcome
back.
To act three of nightlight folks our new extended time.
We are an hour number three here the final the final curtain as Sideshow Bob would say It's great to have you with me on this Friday night We've had a really fun time tonight the guys from make the call the new sports show here at Civic Media We're here earlier with Conrad being one of the roundtable correct.
Yeah, that's exciting.
Are you joining that gig?
I would say so.
Yeah, do you like the guys that were on Parker and Gray?
You know
They're okay.
Okay.
They try to steal your thunder.
They're fantastic guys to work with.
Yeah.
We all get to say our own thing, and that's what I really like, you know?
That's so cool.
It's a great show.
Check it out, folks.
7 a.m.
on Saturdays.
You can go to civicmedia.us and listen to all your favorite Wisconsin sports topics.
Jimmy Koska, also the ringleader, right?
Yeah, yep, yep.
And you know, I
mean, Mike Clemens always is on there every week as well.
Like
Mike.
Doing his sports updates.
Absolutely.
And you know me, I like a good sports contest.
Joel Karnick was here talking about 98Q country's Deer Hunters Roundup.
Great show that they're gonna do the next few nights, but you can also catch that on the website if you don't live in the Park Falls area, but they're under the Civic Media umbrella as well.
It's a Bar Band Friday night.
Terry Barr will be here at 7.35 and our question of the night is what is your favorite sad song
I think people are all caught up.
Should we get back to our very awesome hilarious guests, Khan?
What do you think?
I think so.
There are a lot of people walking by outside.
It's just the windows right here.
I feel like, I feel like one of these shows, one of these nights, I'm going to do the show topless, which is going to scare people away.
But maybe we get more window people right here because as it gets colder, it's tough to get the.
Yeah, I love the window.
Yeah.
Do you?
There's a window right there.
Well, it's over to the side here.
Oh,
yeah.
If you guys are ever...
People are stopping.
They do.
And I've seen people, like people that have gone through.
I've been flashed a couple times.
I've never flashed back.
I want to make that very clear.
But yeah, people walk by, sometimes drunk, sometimes sober.
It's Green Bay, so you just don't know what you're going to get.
But we get an assortment of characters, and it's really fun.
You guys should book a date here in Northeast Wisconsin, like Appleton or Green Bay.
There's all kinds of venues here, right?
Yeah, we'd love to.
We need somebody to reach out.
Please.
We'll get on that.
Well, I'm serious, because I would love for you guys to be here in the studio.
So Conrad, let's put our heads together.
Take a memo.
Tom and Steph.
Yeah.
Green Bay,
right?
Well, I think the last time we were there or nearby, we did Shawno, Stubborn Brothers Brewery and Shawno.
That was.
That sounds fun.
It's fairly close, isn't it?
Yeah, I think so.
But yeah, we'd love to get back there.
I'd love to be in the studio and check out the people walking by and maybe I'll flash them.
Hey listen, we'll throw you a few bucks.
We get more viewers out of this stuff.
I don't care what you do.
Anything
for
an audience,
okay?
Exactly.
Anything to get people to our shows.
Precisely.
Those are the voices of Steph Clark and Tom Clark, two very funny comedians who are headed back to Wisconsin, Tom's native land.
And his wife is gonna brave the elements with him.
She is from Southern California, but they are great.
They're often on the same show.
I had them in Marinette a couple of years ago for
this football fundraiser, I do.
And they are just a dynamite show and a great one-two punch.
So they're playing, let's go over this again.
Windsor, Wisconsin, December 4th, that's a Thursday, that's near DeForest.
And that's why Lil' Irv was asking because he lives in DeForest and he sent us a stream comment saying the Windsor is great.
And he was just there and says it's just a few miles from his home.
So I hope he comes out and says hello to you guys, yeah.
So, and what are the other dates?
We've got December 4th and
Windsor.
Friday, December 5th at Kenosha Comedy Club, which is a great comedy club in Kenosha.
They really nailed
that.
Put the notes down, Tom.
No marketing school, can you believe it?
It's all natural.
And then Saturday, Foundry 45 in Kiewaskum.
Also a nice town.
A nice town with a foundry.
I'm sitting across the window here from its most famous resident.
That is not true.
You
know who it is.
It's the poet.
There's a poet from Kiewaskum who's so famous.
He's from Conrad's town and Conrad has talked about him multiple times on the show.
And I bet you still can't remember his name, can you, Con?
I forgot.
Walt
Whitman, that's I think.
No, it's Glenway Westcott.
Glenway Westcott.
That's right.
So
you'll have to bring that up during your show.
Got any Glenway Westcott fans out here tonight?
We're excited because this Sunday, so I did another fundraiser.
I do all the Catholic School of Fundraisers
and
I did one in Beverly Hills and I won the raffle.
It seems like a fix,
but no,
legitimately I won the raffle and I won Rams tickets.
So I'm going, we're going to the Rams, uh, Buccaneers game.
Oh, nice.
Oh, that's so cool.
Is that when you get, when you do a gig like that and you win something, do you feel obligated to donate some of it back to the school or all of it?
Or what do you do?
Not at all.
I mean.
We once went to a yacht club and we snuck in because we were just hanging out.
We went into the yacht club.
And it was a fundraiser.
They gave away a big screen TV, a really nice big screen TV, and the lady's doing it and she's like, this is the number.
And then she goes, oh my god, that's my number.
I won.
And I'm like, no, you can't win.
You can't.
be the, the, the charity and you won the raffle prize.
Like that's like that.
Like they hired me to be a comedian.
I came in off the streets.
That's fine.
Right.
But if you are running the raffle and you win the raffle, then that's a problem.
That stinks.
That stinks that I haven't.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And we're just
like looking around like, how are people not like overturning tables?
They're happy.
They're happy for Gladys, you know, they're like That's so great.
She needs a break Hey, so this is kind of fun.
I don't know.
Do you guys know Rob Brackenridge?
Yeah, he was my roommate in LA for about five years.
Well, that must have been awkward, but Oh, he's great
Was
his mom with you
the whole
time well
That's just where I was going with this, because your dad is about to turn 100, which is amazing.
And his mom is like 96, and she's part of all of his social media posts.
And she's hilarious and sharp as a tack.
She's funnier than Rob.
Let's be honest.
Hook him up, Tom.
Kidding.
My dad's very quiet, so that might work out.
Hook
him
up.
Before I let you guys go, what, and by the way, all the.
Tickets can, for all three of these gigs can be found at TomClark.com and StephClarkComedy.com.
So if you're interested in any one of those three shows here in Wisconsin, over the next couple of weeks, check out those websites and get, grab some tickets.
They're great and they're great together on the same show.
What are you guys, what are you watching on color television?
Anything you can binge watch recommend?
Oh, yes.
There is a new Netflix series with Michael Shannon called, do you remember what it was called, Burning?
Bert Light.
Something lightening.
It's about James Garfield's presidency, which I never thought would be interesting, but he's quite a fascinating character.
It's Michael Shannon and Nick Offerman.
Oh,
wow.
And Tom from Succession.
I don't know
his name.
Oh,
he's funny.
Yeah, he's so good.
It's like those boring years of where you thought like nothing happened.
So it's him.
James Garfield and then Chester Arthur who was who after you know Garfield not to ruin it spoiler alert he was assassinated About 30 days into his presidency and then Chester Arthur takes over but but the whole series is about who he was and all the great things that he did and sort of like an early civil rights
Person and sort of like a Cinderella story.
He was never really nominated.
He
didn't even want to be president Yeah, so it was really interesting four episodes nice thing to binge through
don't you love that that he didn't want to be president Don't you have a little more faith in that guy kind of
refreshing?
Yeah, I'll have I just want to tell you guys this so
This is my presidential story, and this is kind of embarrassing, but I don't know if you ever worked at Indianapolis.
There were two comedy clubs there back in the day.
They put you up in a condo.
Crackers.
Yeah, yeah.
No, it wasn't crackers.
I mean, that's there, but I didn't work those.
I worked the comedy connections.
There was one in Broad Ripple and one downtown.
So I'm in this condo right downtown, and right around the corner is Benjamin Harrison's home.
And my wife was with me.
I'm like, well, God, it's a US president.
Let's go check this out.
So we go through the home and there's this kid who is working there who never gets.
has to do anything because nobody's taking the tour, especially right in the town he's from.
So we go in there and this kid starts giving the tour and he's so bored and he can't believe he has to do this.
And I'm fascinated because it's a US president and everything he's saying fascinates me.
So I'm geeking it up and I'm like, this is his kitchen and he liked to cook.
He cooked right in this kitchen.
The kid's like, yeah.
Then we get up, this is the desk Abraham Lincoln gave him as a gift.
I go, wait a minute.
Lincoln sat at this desk and Benjamin Harrison, the kid's like, uh-huh.
And then we get to the bedroom.
We get to the bedroom.
And the kid goes, and this is the bed that Benjamin Harrison died in.
I'm like, you gotta be kidding me.
He died in this bed and the kid finally looks at me and goes, it's just Benjamin Harrison, man.
He totally emasculated me in front of my wife.
But I
love
that stuff.
So I'm definitely going to check out that show.
That's great.
I once performed in Sun Valley, Idaho.
And I stayed at the same hotel where Ernest Hemingway stayed.
Oh, nice.
And they took me on a tour before the show.
And they're like, yeah, this is the room where Hemingway would write.
And that's also where he killed himself.
Showtime is 7 o'clock.
Did you try to drink as much as you did just to reminisce?
Yeah, just to live the life.
That's much cooler.
I would love to see anything Hemingway related.
He's lived a more exciting life than I did.
You guys, this is so fun.
Thank you for your time.
Enjoy your time back here in your home state and adopted home state.
Have great shows, knock them dead.
Is
Conrad coming out to Kiewaskam or what?
That's a great
question.
I
might have to go back to the hometown.
You can sense the enthusiasm in his words.
You can't fake
excitement like that.
Have a great show, guys.
Break a leg, safe travels, and yeah, we'll talk soon.
Thanks
for
having us, Pete.
Any time.
All right, that's Tom Clark and Steph Clark.
Two very funny comedians, and they happen to be married, and they're oftentimes on the same show in there.
It's a great show.
I witnessed it firsthand in Marinette.
and as good of people as they are comedians.
Very cool stuff.
Let's get some texts going here, Khan, because we are falling a little bit behind here.
Did I ask Tom and Steph what their favorite sad songs?
I don't know if I did.
Yeah, you did.
I did.
It was the song in all those dog commercials.
Oh, yeah.
Of course, I will remember you.
Sarah McLaughlin, right?
Yeah.
All right, so Anna in Madison.
In the 608 says, hi, Pete and Conrad.
My favorite sad song is The Way We Were by Barbara Streisand.
Yeah, that's a good one.
That's a sad song, but also a great song.
Monica from Mount Horrib in the 608 says, Harry Chapin's Cats in the Cradle or Jim Croci's Operator.
Yeah, that's, man, Operator is a great tune.
She's living in LA with my best old ex-friend Ray.
Love it.
And Cats in the Cradle is probably maybe the all-time saddest song.
to some people.
Let's see, let's see where we go in here.
We got some social media responses.
Chris Morrow, our civic media pal says, don't laugh, but puff the magic dragon, the unexpected loss of innocence and imagination.
Brings a tear whenever I hear it.
Why would we laugh at that, Chris?
That's a great song and I'm totally with you there.
Rich Lucassio, our wrestling announcer, WRJN friend says, Billy Joel, tomorrow is today.
Thank you, Rich.
Keep those texts coming, folks.
We've got a lot to get to.
We'll do that after a very short break.
This is Pete Schwabba at Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
Is that like the This is this is the start of the song my my song.
It's kind of oh It just sounds sad when it starts doesn't it?
Well, it sounds upbeat compared to that Sarah McLaughlin song is what I thought you were playing with the pets No, no, no, this is this is apologized.
Yeah, it's kind of sad You want me to sing it
Would you?
No, I'm sorry.
You don't want to hear that.
We only have about a quarter of the show left.
Let's not.
Hey, this
is Pete Chwapa at Nightlight.
Welcome back, folks.
Well, it was fun talking.
It's funny.
I lived in LA for years.
I never really knew Tom, and he lived out there.
I wish I had gotten to know him more when I lived there, because he's so funny, and he's just a great Wisconsin dude, and Steph is equally as funny and cool, so fun catching up with them and talking to them.
Halfway, you know through my Benjamin Harris's story though.
I had this weird deja vu I'm like I know I've told that story before on this show But did I tell that to them before when they were on the show?
I really hope not.
I'm gonna think I'm crazy
All right, so next time they come on you definitely have
to tell Yes, and let's record their faces and see if they if they write if they realize
Oh, man.
All right.
So our question of the night, folks, is what is your favorite sad song?
We are going through some social media responses and the text line here getting caught up Rachel Maddock, my pal from Fox 11 here in Green Bay says, that one about the horse.
What's the one about the horse?
What is that song?
I have no idea.
But there's a, can you, can you click the reply under Rachel's comment?
Cause that didn't print up.
So I don't know what we can have Rachel back on the show.
Remember, we gave Rachel a quiz.
And it was like 80s comedies, but they're kind of guy heavy.
Rachel just, I thought she did fine, but I don't know that she was that enamored with our, with our format that night.
But I would love to get Rachel back on the show.
Alan Whitebird says, can't live by Harry Nielsen.
Yeah.
I can't live if living is without you.
How'd you like that, Alan?
I got the raspy voice going.
The comment says wildfire.
Oh yeah, wildfire.
Cause Lisa Simpson.
Saying that when Homer got her a pony all my knowledge of pop culture and history sadly is from the Simpsons that makes sense Rachel we got you my pal Tim Plager awesome drummer Says tears in heaven by Clapton.
Yeah, that one's horrible to listen to Like that was about you know what that song's about con?
No
here Clapton's child fell out of a window of a high rise in New York unattended well little tyke, you know
And so yeah, that's a great one.
And that brought down the whole mood of the show.
That's how sad that sounds.
Rich Talarico says, blind man in the bleachers by David Gettys.
I remember that tune.
Great one, Rich.
The last game of the season and the blind man couldn't come because the kid's dad passed away.
Very sad.
Mike Dessetel says, time by the Alan Parsons project.
You know what, Mike?
I don't think I've ever listened to the lyrics.
So I never thought it was sad, but thank you, sir Courtney Cronin who is on the show next week I cannot wait to have Courtney very funny Courtney Cronin on the show very funny comedian says alone again naturally Gilbert O'Sullivan it sounds peppy But it's so sad and now I cannot picture how that song goes, but I know that song
I'm totally Googling that after the show.
Matt Cousine on social media says, hurt.
Johnny Cash version.
Love it, Matt.
Thank you, buddy.
Amanda Nimmer, our social media guru here says, say something.
A great big world.
Nice.
Thank you, Amanda.
Rachel Ingalls on social media says, dust in the wind.
Oh, that's a great one, Rachel.
She says, that is my answer to most song related questions.
Most upbeat, dust in the wind.
Saddest, dust in the wind.
Love it.
Eric Bernstead, Civic Media Pal and engineering expert says, whiskey lullaby.
I don't know that song.
Mike says, put the bone in by Terry Jax.
Can we say that?
I don't, I don't even know that song.
I almost got fired for playing it on the radio in the mid-70s, says Mike.
It's about a dog.
Oh, that's even creepier.
Can you see what the two replies were under that one, Con, on social media?
Sure.
Scott Tom, our Madison friend, says, actually, don't give up.
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush love Kate Bush and obviously love Peter Gabriel.
But Scott says it should have been the Stranger Things theme.
Oh, that's interesting.
Thank you, Scott.
Scott also says, Sad Songs by Elton John.
Great one.
And Boris Hamilton, whose joke I quoted the other night.
Do you remember that Con read?
He was the one that said, I put my clothes on.
And
they
were losing us.
Oh, I'm losing weight.
Oh, no,
it's wash
day.
And Boris also says, second vote of the night for Jim Croci, operator.
We have someone on the phone?
Yeah, Ollie from the Northwoods.
Oh,
fantastic.
Ollie, how are you?
I'm fine.
I like this song always on my mind.
The Willie Nelson version.
I know.
Elvis Presley sang it great too, but Willie's got a little more soul in there.
Ollie, I could not agree more with you and I'm glad you said that is one of my favorite songs too of all time and the Willie Nelson version.
I love his voice.
I'm just about everything, but that is a great choice.
Thank you
so much.
Can I ask you a favor?
Yeah.
I don't want to call back and interrupt somebody else's time, but would you ask Terry Barr about to
say a little bit about the Jimmy's genre.
They're coming to Hayward, I hear.
Jimmy's
genre.
Jimmy.
The Jimmy's.
What kind of songs they sing?
The Jimmy's.
I know she's been on before.
And I thought I had remembered something that she had played some of the...
Maybe it was her and rocker had played some of the Jimmy's
Oh, that's
cool.
Yeah, I
will I will definitely do that Yeah, she's on here every Friday night, and I will ask her about I will ask her about that.
Thank you very much Ali
All right.
Thanks a lot a
great night.
Thank you, and that's a great choice for a set song
Why is the music playing because we got a minute
what?
Jamie another civic media pal of ours says bridge over troubled water or Dolly's version of I will always love.
Yes, the Dolly Parton version.
That's so funny, Jamie.
I have said that kicks butt on the Whitney Houston version, even though Whitney has a beautiful voice, but I'm totally with you.
All right.
Hey, we're coming right back.
It's Barman Friday night, folks.
Terry Barr is just around the corner on the stream.
It's Pete Schwabba and nightlight on the civic media radio network.
The grossest dog I've seen for my whole
Time to check out original music with Bar Band Friday on Nightlight.
Now your host Pete Schwabba and special guest Terry Barr.
Welcome back.
It is a very special time when we welcome my Bar Band Friday night co-host.
The segment is named in her honor for God's sakes.
You can't do better than that.
I think that's our only segment except Conrad Complaints.
That segment we do.
Never, but we will,
we'll get
to it.
But right now, Terri Barr is here for Bar Band Friday Night.
How are you, Terri?
I'm good.
I was so happy to see you at Connie Feldman on last night.
Yeah.
Yeah, she's fabulous.
Connie and I have been friends since 1991.
That's, which is weird though, because you've known each other since 1985.
And I don't want to read into that one, but something's not right there.
I'm kidding, Terry.
I am.
I am her daughter's godmother.
That's what she said.
That means a lot.
That's great.
She was so fun to
talk to.
And I
didn't know.
Yeah.
I mean, she's been working here for a while.
We've exchanged, you know, pleasantries,
but it's
so great knowing that it's like one of those things like, oh, well, if you're a friend of Terry's, you know, you're a friend of friend of
ours.
Well, you guys had a great segment last night.
I really enjoyed listening to it.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you for listening.
And yeah, thank you for saying so.
She's great.
How are you tonight?
I am good.
I am tired.
I only had a four-day week this week, but it feels like it was 25 days.
You know, it's one of those weeks.
That's so funny because we kind of and I were just talking where our show has been three hours starting on Monday and I am limping to the finish line.
It's only been a week.
You know, it's like a muscle.
You just get used to it.
But man, yeah, I am ready to, uh, to hit the hay.
Yeah.
I'm with you.
I mean, that can't be with you.
That would be weird.
That would be
weird.
I'm sure our spouses would understand, but you know, we're just
a lot of
friends.
Hey, this is fun.
Welcome.
I have to ask you, before we get too much into this, do you have a favorite sad song?
Oh, gosh, there's so many.
I know.
A lot of Jim Croce music.
Yes.
But also the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Oh, that's cool.
And I know it was such a big anniversary recently, but I cannot listen to that entire song.
And if I do, I'm probably in tears.
I just heard the other day that was based on a real event.
No, I'm just kidding.
No, I love Jim Croci too.
And sometimes there are folks who sing sad songs, but his stuff makes me happy, even though the songs are sad.
It's like, because I love the beauty in his work.
It's just...
He captures relationships so perfectly and melancholy.
It's brilliant.
He is a poet, yes.
Yeah, for
sure.
Oh, Cats in the Cradle is another one.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Yeah, I don't doubt it.
Well, let's jump in here because
you've got... Thanks for
asking.
You've got two great artists, but not really.
There's one that kind of connects the two bands.
So tell us, should we do a cross the pond for Craig Bowman in the story first?
Sure, because this discussion that I want to share with you really is about Craig.
Craig Bowman is a carpenter by trade.
He also owns a music store in Waukesha.
He's in the two bands that you will hear tonight, his own band and the People Brothers Band.
But why I was so interested in sharing this with everyone.
For 20 years, Craig has gone to Jamaica over our winter to either help build houses for people that are basically homeless or he's helping them fix up their huts.
And it is what it is.
Many of these people are sleeping on the dirt floor and their roof is not covering them.
And so he brings a group of volunteers for 20 years, Pete, including the bands he's in.
They have gone there.
They have done shows there.
I am just blown away by his effort.
I knew about this a long time ago.
I did a story with him and he's been so proud of this.
But why I felt I needed to catch up with him this week, I just wanted to see if he's going back anytime soon.
And if he has any updates on what the recent hurricane did to any of the buildings that he has been a part of.
He says, as far as he knows, he basically goes into the middle of Jamaica, but they were hit really hard there as well.
And he said, in some cases,
Things are standing, but they still don't have any electricity.
It's hard to get by on the roads.
Now, this is a while ago already.
For Rubbish, he said this is a big issue there.
It just lays there for months and months and months.
And he said, he's been part of 200 different projects in the central area of Jamaica.
He has not heard that any single one
fell during the hurricane.
But his concern is those that still had a dirt floor that now they're not stable.
And those that they actually put a cement floor in that those are starting to crack because the water got underneath.
So he's going back in January and he's going to do whatever he can to get them situated.
But he also wants to go to the schools and the hospitals because many of them are
just not in good shape.
Wow.
I love this guy already.
That's, that's great.
We're talking about, we're about to hear the song across the pond, but before we do that, he's also part of the people brothers band.
Um, and part of several other bands you said, and I love both these songs.
So at some point you have to say, well, there's a connection here and it's him, right?
I mean, not
that the other musicians
aren't great too, but
yeah.
Well, and it's so funny.
He said,
He does his work as a carpenter so he can pay for his music habit because he just loves me so much.
I like that a lot.
And the People Brothers Band, he plays guitar and sings.
They travel constantly.
So I'm sure being out on the road means he is then not doing his work to make money to support both his habit and to support the work that he's trying to do in Jamaica.
That's amazing.
Before
we hear our first song, I have to say one of our regular callers, Olly from the Northwoods, wanted to ask you about the jimmies because they're coming up, I guess, to Hayward.
What was the question?
She wanted to know.
Yeah,
she wanted to see what kind of music they play
because I guess
they're going
up to
Hayward.
Oh, that's right.
They're
going to Hayward.
Oh my gosh.
And this is Olly.
Olly from the Northwood.
She's great.
Oh, Olly, if you get a chance to see them, you will enjoy them so much.
They are keyboard.
They're a horn section.
They've got everybody that sings in this band and they just make you want to dance.
How do I describe it?
It's upbeat blues type of music.
Really fun, all original.
Great description.
Let's hear Craig Baumann and the story.
This is Across the Pond on a Barband Friday Night Compliments of Terry Barr.
North, North, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South, South
Only one way to get there, one way I know
Chicago, Stokey Way.
Kept on your tempting from state to state.
Got buffalo gospel on radio.
Only one way to get there, one way I know.
Talking about Conker station by corner at night.
I got rockin' Johnny on radio Only one way to get there, one way I know I talk about the I-94 to the I-90 Put me with Nona, my other home Got all my good friends on radio
Right, that was, Across the Pond by Craig Bowman and the Story, compliments of our bar band Friday Night Guest here, Terry Barr.
That was a great song, Terry.
These people are ridiculously tailed.
Yeah,
and why is Joliette, Illinois in every blues song ever, and why is it fit so perfectly in a blues tune?
It must rhyme with whatever was by or after.
Oh, that's
so great.
Terry's
here.
That's a great question.
Yeah, we're going to talk about another band that Craig Bowman is in after a very short break here.
Terry Barr is joining us here.
As usual, she is the co-host of the award-winning MaxiGradio, which if you live in the Madison area, you can hear every Saturday night from 6 to 9 p.m.
with her pal, Rocker and our pal as well.
And if you don't live in Madison, you can check it out at civicmedia.us.
All the podcasts are there and it is an absolutely excellent show.
We will have more with Terry in just a moment.
Lori from Hayward in the 715 says, go rest high upon that mountain by Vince Gill.
Oh, I don't know.
We were just talking about country music before.
That's great.
Catherine Lake, another of our civic media brethren or sister in chiming in and says, everyone in Madison knows the Jimmy's.
Okay, well, there you go.
I'm getting an education tonight.
Rin from Madison, pardon me, says, Wichita Lineman, Glenn Campbell.
That's a great one too, yeah.
Jim from Appleton says, alone again, naturally hurt Johnny Cash.
All right,
there
we go.
And Steve from Florida Conrad's dad says the dance by Garth Brooks, epic sad song.
We've got a steady eddy text and some from John will get to momentarily, but first we're going to do a very quick break and come back and finish off Bar Band Friday night, folks.
It's Pete Schwabba in Nightlight.
Welcome back.
This is Pete Schwabba and Nightlight.
Great to have you with me.
We are going to power through some text here.
Conn, I think everybody was at a fish fry.
And then all of a sudden they're catching the last part of Nightlight and texting, which is awesome.
John Murray from Madison says, evening gents, great show as usual.
Caleb, I really like.
He meant Conrad.
I
really like
the idea Peter tossed out where earlier you do an entire show of just two of you goofballs talking, going off on a hundred tangents.
I do that anyway, John.
But thank you.
He says it would be a fan favorite once a month or something.
Clever brand name, a musical vocal open.
Boy, John is like on fire tonight.
He says
Hotel California is his most favorite sad song.
He says you're going
to
cut some glass, Peter.
Glass is cold in Green Bay.
I knew where you were going with that.
He says, Conrad, sorry, I keep calling you Caleb.
John says, it's just too damn old to keep it all.
I'm too damn old to keep it all straight.
My bad, love you guys.
We love you too, John.
And you can call us whatever you want.
And then a steady Eddie in the 608 says, Pete, on opening day of deer season in 1967, I shot at a 10 pointer I missed.
I know it was a 10 pointer because my dad ended up shooting the buck.
I still have the antlers and the memories.
My favorite sad song right now is You Don't Know Me written by Cindy Walker and Eddie Arnold.
I sing the song and play along on my guitar.
Sometimes I almost make myself cry.
Oh, man.
What do you think about that, Terry?
Geez.
He says Ray Charles made it a hit in 1962.
I like the Willie Nelson version.
Outstanding works, Eddie.
Eddie, thank you, sir.
I think we're all cut up there.
And then we've got Lori Garrett.
He says, imagine by John Lennon on social media, another
Phenomenal song.
Do you like John Lennon Terry?
I do.
Yeah, that's
such a great song.
Sarah Stino on social media says, this woman's work by Kate Bush or Maxwell.
Awesome.
Thank you, Sarah.
Don Clover says, sound of silence.
That's a great song.
Well, there are a ton of great sad songs, aren't there?
Yeah.
You don't realize that until you ask this question.
Right, exactly.
And I can't even get through all the texts.
I know.
Tiff on social media, Tiff Berry says, Desperado, it reminds me of someone I love and gets me every time.
Yeah, that's one of
those songs,
too.
Thank you all for your text tonight.
I'd like to thank Greg Gunderson and...
Parker Olson.
Parker Olson.
I always want to call him Carter.
I don't know.
Carter could work for him.
Tell him I said to think about it.
Stage name.
I would love.
Terry, can you see Carter Schwabba?
Can you see me rocking Carter?
Wait, I thought it was going to be, um, Shali?
Shali.
Oh,
Shali Schwabba.
Yeah.
And Pete Pitman.
We were doing a name swap.
That was the other night.
That's impressive.
Thank you, Terry.
Um, and also a thank you to Tom and Steph Clark and Joel Karnick from 98Q Country.
All right.
We have a few more minutes here with our pal Terry Barr on Bar Band Friday night.
Let's do this, Terry.
Um, I don't know if we ever leave ourselves enough time.
So this might have to be a mini series moving forward.
What do you think about that?
We could do that between all of them and then your texts.
Absolutely.
All right, so
let's do this.
Tell us a little bit about Craig's other band, the People Brothers band, and then we'll just go out on the song and the show with the song Money Goes, which is a great
song.
Oh, and this is one you kind of bop around, but you got to listen to the words.
Yeah.
Because it really is true right now.
Where is our money going?
And it's Teresa is the lead singer of the People Brothers Band.
And you'll understand her words as you listen, but it also sort of makes you bop around.
So that's good.
sad note, I don't think.
But again, I want to mention Craig is in the People Brothers band where he also sings and plays guitar.
And his nonprofit where he is going to be out in Jamaica in January to check on the homes and the projects he's worked on.
200 different projects in 20 years.
If you want to learn more or
Even if you like you want to donate if you're feeling like this is the time of year you want to support something go to jam for jam so J a m f o r J a m dot org and you'll see all their work.
It's really quite incredible
That is fantastic.
All right.
Well, we're just going to hear this song.
All of you that just have been texting, thank you.
John got one last text in and it's for Terry.
He says, Terry Barr, thanks for bringing the passion as usual.
Aw, thank you, John.
Could not
agree more.
Folks, thank you so much.
Join me Monday.
Terry, how about this lineup on Monday?
We've got Grant Fenster, the producer of a documentary called A Bucky about the Wisconsin mascot.
And then we've got wonderfully Wisconsin's Paul Vandenplatz and Reno911 and the Godfather of Green Bay.
Tom Lennon will be here on Monday.
Tuesday is our pal Stuart J. Waddles, Lance Barber from Young Sheldon and also the godfather of Green Bay and the hilariously funny Courtney Cronin and then we've got best ofs for the holiday Conrad's going out of town.
Terry, I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you so
much as always.
Oh, both of you and all of your listeners and everybody who's connecting with you tonight.
Thank you for listening and happy Thanksgiving.
Well, I see you
on the fourth in Madison at the Godfather of Green Bay.
You come
out.
Yes, I need to get my ticket, so yes, sir.
Awesome.
All right.
This is Money Goes Compliments of Terry Barr.
It's going to take us home tonight.
The People Brothers Band with Craig Bowman.
Good night, everybody.
On behalf of the lovable producer Conrad, I'm Pete Schwabba saying good night, Wisconsin.
In and out my-
I am Pete Schwabba.
It is great to have you with me tonight, folks.
It is a Tuesday night in the state of Wisconsin broadcasting statewide from beautiful downtown Green Bay.
Ellie Bordo will be here at 635 from Up North News.
We're going to talk about where you can get
Thanksgiving dinner for the needy.
That's going to be really cool.
Up North News does some great stuff.
Madison film critic Rob Thomas will be here at 720.
Our question of the night is, in honor of Mickey Mouse's birthday, who is your favorite animated or Pixar character?
I said Homer and Buzz and Woody.
Well, I said wasn't buddy.
What did I say?
Was and buddy.
I just polished off a bottle of whiskey on my way down from Marinette.
And Conrad says, Tom and Jerry.
So let's ask our next guest though, what he thinks.
He is one of my favorite guests to have here in the studio.
And I don't like him personally, but I love when he's on the show and we just seem to make it work.
Mr. Frank Hermans of Wisconsin, entertainment legend is here.
Hey buddy, how are you?
We are statewide.
Yeah,
that's awesome.
Right now.
So they can listen to me in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Crap.
We're on all the big markets.
I don't know if we're on in Onalaska.
Onalaska, that's the first thing.
It's pretty cool.
It's a beautiful little
town.
I don't know, buddy.
I'm fantastic and thanks for having me.
Holy
cats is it getting cold out.
So I got to do the holiday parade this weekend.
Green
Bay Holiday Parade.
My wife and I, we sing from nine to 10 and then we emcee.
And it's
shown on
NBC 26.
Anyway, I'm looking at the weather today.
30 degrees, cloudy.
I've
done the
parade where it was 15 degrees before because we've done it for like 20 years.
And it is hard to sing in that cold weather.
I bet it is.
Yeah.
Although, if I will say this, I know I sound like a total Wisconsinite, but I was when I.
I think I got home the other night, it stopped at my parents, and they said, how is it outside?
I go, well, it's about 32, but there's no wind.
It's pretty nice.
You know when there's no wind?
It makes a big difference.
It makes a
huge difference.
I'm a 50 degree guy, and when it's 50 degrees, I'll do it.
Yeah.
I'll swim.
Same.
I'll go swimming.
I've done that.
Here's how stupid I was when I was younger.
I had this great apartment in Chicago when I was like 22.
I just started doing stand-up.
All my high school buddies from Marinette came down.
And it was on the 18th floor, I had two roommates, it was a blast.
And I said, we're gonna go out till four in the morning, because the bars are open all day.
We're gonna come back, and we're gonna go swim, and it was like mid-October.
So I was the only one that went frank, because I was mad at them, because they all bailed.
And I crossed Lake Shore Drive like a moron, and I went in the lake for about five minutes.
And I'm like, and then your imagination starts going like, what if I die?
My friends are like, we tried to tell them not to go.
Such an idiot.
You
know, we've all done that.
You would have swam with me though.
You have that streak.
I would do, when I was younger, I'd do anything.
You know, I was all into that rock climbing crap and jumping off cliffs and crazy
stuff.
Okay, tell me about that.
I can't do the height thing.
Yeah, I was into repelling.
I had this buddy, I worked in Columbia, Missouri at a nightclub called Doc and Eddie's.
I ran it and had all these college friends and one was in the...
whatever we call it in college when he going to be in the Army, ROTC.
Oh yeah.
And so he wanted to teach me what an Army Swiss knot was.
And you're supposed to use half inch rope, but we couldn't find half inch.
So we got three eighth inch.
So I tied an Army Swiss seat and went repelling off 135 foot cliff with that thing.
And it was my first time ever.
Now that's dumb.
Whoa.
Army Swiss seat is called.
And yeah, it was burnt.
But
he kind of was guiding you?
Well, he was,
what was he,
19?
I don't know.
I was 21, 22 years old.
Oh man.
I got into that rock climbing, caving, spelunking stuff for a while.
It was a lot of fun.
Spelunking does sound interesting.
The word,
not the
actual
act of it.
It's a very cool word.
Spelunking.
It is.
It is.
Dude, it's a major spelunking last weekend.
When you say you rock climbed.
Yeah.
I'm kind of fascinated by it.
Yeah, how does that work?
You have nothing
tied to you.
But in Missouri, you know, the Ozarks, there's a lot of steep cliffs, but they weren't like the stuff you see like out in Montana and Wyoming where you're climbing on cracks, okay?
Yeah.
These
were rocks and it was straight up, but it was just fun.
And I had no fear of heights back then.
Now, I get on a bridge.
You know, I'm like, wow.
I know.
I can't do roller coasters.
I can't do anything anymore.
I
can't do roller-crosses because you hear of the stuff people getting stuck upside down.
Well, lately, lots of stuff.
And who's
putting
them together?
We just died last week.
Yeah.
Oh, it's
terrible.
No thanks.
Let's talk about singing and stuff.
That's safer.
It's more fun.
Yeah.
It's good to have you here, but do you have a favorite cartoon character or Pixar?
Pixar?
Well, I have to say, you know, I'm trying to think of Pixar the anger in what is that show where it's the emotions.
It's
Pixar.
The kids I cry
in and out.
Yeah, that's
a great movie.
What
a sequel was even
better
better.
Yeah, I agree
and the angry guy played by what's his next a lot of the comedian I love his voice guy.
My brain is fried
right
now.
No, he's the anger guy.
He's always mad.
Oh And what he doesn't come
But I love the whole, that's my favorite character.
You gotta look that
up now, don't you?
Yes, I do.
I love that movie.
He's always mad.
Gilbert Godfrey?
No, Godfrey's the duck.
Afflack.
Wait, was it in and out?
Like all I'm getting is like the Kevin Klein movie.
Inside out.
INSIDE OUT!
Did
you have the Google
open camera?
I had
it in and out too, man.
I thought it was in and out too until I just looked it up.
You
look good
inside out everywhere.
I still got young kids, so I go to all these movies yet, so
I
love it.
I
love it.
I just saw Predator the other night.
The
Predator Badlands.
Yeah, loved it.
Really good movie.
Absolutely loved it.
And I brought my 10-year-old and my 12-year-old and they just were fixated.
Did it take you a while?
Like, I was watching this and I'm like, there's no humans.
Yeah.
I mean, they're humans and acting as robots, but that was kind of weird.
It was weird.
But it was kind of cool to have the Predator be the good guy for different.
It was so odd.
Yeah.
Because
the other Predator movies, hey, it's kind of a
jerk.
Yeah.
Well, yeah.
Lewis Black.
Lewis
Black,
that's the guy.
Love that character.
That's my favorite Pixar character.
I had a really weird moment with Lewis Black.
And you know, this is a former comedy clowner.
I worked the funny bone in Pittsburgh with Lewis.
Lewis was the headliner.
I was the middle act.
And my buddy Keith, God rest his soul, was the MC.
And Keith would say anything to anybody.
And Lewis is confrontational.
Oh, I know.
And Lewis started ripping on Dennis Miller's special.
And Keith, that was his island, he goes, well, I totally disagree with you.
And it was like, I was just sliding down in the chair.
The two of them were like, it was the most uncomfortable.
But I kind of respected both of them for not backing off, you know, like to sort of.
It's good debate.
It's good debate.
Good debate.
Anyway, all right, so that's a great choice, Frank.
And I want to ask you, how did...
Don't squeeze the Charmin go.
Well, fantastic.
It was a great show, great run, like a great turnout.
And, you know, we've taken our show as we used to do four-week runs.
Now we do three-week runs.
So there were bigger houses and we actually, Procter & Gamble bought two shows for their company.
It was pretty cool.
Bought it out, sold it out.
So, well, it's sold out, but they bought it out.
But it was great.
And you know what's funny?
Now that I did a show with Procter & Gamble, so I thought of a show.
Let me tell you which thing.
the musical, right?
So I texted the marketing department, hey, thinking about doing a show in 2027 called Quick Trip the Musical.
What do you think?
Guess what I got?
A big no.
Come on.
I'm sorry, Frank.
It was, you know, it was classic somebody else, somebody's assistant wrote it.
Well, we get lots of requests for things like this.
We won't be interested in that at this time.
Okay, but do you know what
I do?
Yeah, I spelled it out.
So I'm doing a show called Quack Trip.
No cease and desist on that mess with the
same
logo
Quacktrip the musical to watch for it in
2027.
Well, you have like songs that are relatable to I will see you next time or whatever Well, the whole
thing is they always say would you like a bag with that?
Yeah, would you like to receive with that?
They say the same things.
It's like it's like rehearsed and which is fantastic.
It's a great organization I got to meet the owner a couple times when we did some fundraising, but Paul trip Paul trip Yeah, yeah madam and they handed me a big check for cerebral palsy.
That was fantastic
Yeah,
that's I get it.
You know, it's a great That's ripe for not not parody of the business itself But it's a story that takes place around a quick trip could be kind of fun.
That's all
it's gonna be Yeah, I would not and I put that I and I've gotten I haven't gotten permission from a lot of people I've only got three cease and desist in my life and one was from Paul McCartney's I did a show called beer and wings and we used wing songs and I got a cease and desist They wanted to see the script and it said that he ate chicken wings and they wanted me to take that out of the
The script.
Isn't that crazy?
But I
got
correspondence from the management
company.
Yeah, that's kind of cool.
Paul McCartney.
And one was He-Ha.
I called He-Ha Ho-Down.
I couldn't use the name He-Ha.
So
I just called it
Ho-Down.
And the third was, I did a show called Grease Trap.
And the logo kind of looked like the logo from Grease.
They said, uh-uh.
And I had four songs that were called, they call them, what do they call?
Grand Rites.
Grand Rites are like Disney songs and songs in Broadway musicals that you can't use without written permission from the author.
So I had to take... Night of.
I had to take out four songs.
Come on.
Kid, you're not.
What if you had done them?
Well,
here's the deal.
Do they have a guy there?
You don't get, you don't get a, oh, sorry.
Next time, it's $50,000.
So no, I
didn't
do that.
And they bring spotters.
I've had spotters in the audience.
They just hire a law firm and send somebody.
So
I
am parody.
So I get away with a lot of stuff.
I get away with a lot of stuff.
But we have ASCAP and BMI that we can do songs from that.
But there's certain companies and certain songs that have grand rights you can't do.
That's crazy.
You would think a show like He-Ha, that has not been on in decades, would like a little nostalgic reminder.
You would probably watch this somewhere.
You would think that.
That's crazy.
But yeah, Paul McCartney's cool.
But how about the reach, man?
Yeah.
It's all Warren Gertz fault.
He put a review out, and then the bots.
They
look for
things online, and that's how they find out things.
that's why you can't advertise frank i
can't i don't think we should talk about your christmas show we should we should talk about there's no right stand in the song
so all right so tell us i just want to say first of all folks frank hermans this guy is an institution he puts out i mean how prolific are you put out all these new shows and i want to say last year your christmas show i took my wife and two kids do it we saw it and i was i don't know
I'm just gonna say this, I was not in the Christmas spirit last year.
I don't know what the deal was, it's just one of those years.
Probably the first year the kids were out of the house, whatever, but I thought, let's meet there.
So my son drove up, my daughter came over from Steven's point, and we met at the Meyer Theater.
All four of us together for the first time, yeah.
And we watched that show, and I was in the mood, man.
The Christmas cheer?
You filled our souls.
I filled your heart with
Christmas cheer.
My
heart grew three sizes that dear.
You had the, but the Meyer theater is so beautiful.
You got this great story.
I mean, it was, it was a marvelous way to kick off the holidays.
Thank you.
And we've written, isn't it crazy?
This will be my 26th different Christmas show this
year.
I
come up with a different theme every year and I think about it all year long.
I don't know what I'm doing next year.
But this year is kind of a Dr. Seuss thing.
It's the who's versus the what's.
Oh, I love that.
Got it?
Yeah,
yeah.
A little Dr. Seuss.
Grinch makes an appearance.
He's actually my wife's brother, Tom Grinch.
Tom.
Tommy G. Tommy's good, Tommy G. And he should hashtag Jim Carrey, kind of, you know.
Oh, nice.
Talk like that, like you're from the, you know, almost James Cagney.
Yeah,
or Jimmy Stewart.
Jerry,
Jerry, Mary!
You need a rope?
I'll throw
a
rope
for ya!
All right, let's let's pick up there.
We got to do a very short break.
Frank Herman's is here.
Can you sing for us too?
I brought my guitar.
I love it.
We'll do a little song.
I will do some window photos.
Let's do it.
I love window photos.
How about you and I?
I'll play air guitar.
Okay, and you play air.
I'll be backing you up.
Sounds good.
All right, perfect.
Frank Herman is here, folks.
Always fun when Frank is here.
Our question of the night is, who is your favorite animated or Pixar character in honor of Mickey Mouse's birthday?
We'll come back and Frank is going to tell you all about this year's Christmas show, which you absolutely have to check out.
And we'll talk about a lot of other shows he's got coming up around the state.
Always fun.
Pete Schwabba and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Just just a little light-hearted.
We
should have a podcast with everything man.
That was
Frank say listen to a book on tape about Epstein.
I Automatically thought you meant one Epstein from welcome back I gotta get my hands on
He just talked about the overalls.
Frank Hermans is here.
Folks, we're talking to Frank about many of his upcoming shows.
First and foremost, though,
is his Christmas show.
And it's just called Frank's Christmas, right?
We call it a Frank's Christmas, but it's a different show every year.
It's just kind of become like a, it's kind of an institution.
I tell you what, people have been coming for 26 years.
They bring the kids, you know, it grows and grows.
And as I was telling you off camera, can
I say
that?
Third of my income was made in the month of December.
It is a huge show, 23.
performances of Christmas and, you know, it seats, you know, over a thousand people in there and there's some nights we'll sell out.
It's
just wonderful.
The attendance and we make it, we make the thing.
Normally our shows are PG 13.
This one is PG.
I
mean, I say heck.
That's as far as
we know there's no any windows.
Yeah, what in fact, I talked like an elf.
So what the heck is sorry for my profanity
Cindy
Lou.
Don't be saying that.
Heck, what the heck?
That's your language.
Yeah.
Have you ever done an NC 17 show?
I think the Brady bunch was a little NC 17 because in fact we got a little comments because.
There was a lot of stuff happening in that show with Greg and mom and Cindy and some other things.
And they, somebody said that it was incestual, but those were actors.
They're
actors.
It was not
a real family.
Right.
So we hit on some of those things that were in there and I'm like.
That's, the Brady Bunch aren't real, people.
They're not
real.
Relax.
And they're step siblings.
We've all messed around with step siblings.
Come on, give me a break.
Come on,
I had a first cousin.
Did I just say that?
Hope you're not listening.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I was kidding, Frank.
That was a trap.
I didn't know I could believe you went
there.
Oh, you got me.
I'm easily, easily
swanked.
So we're, okay, so.
So who's in the show this year?
Obviously you and Amy, your wife, I assume.
And then any of the kids in the show this year?
No, we have the kids.
We have our 10-year-old and 12-year-old singing before the show.
And they're
doing a
funny version of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.
Remember that with an all of the other?
Who's all of?
You know, they
make little comments
on it.
So
it's the funniest.
So on Fridays and Saturdays, they're going to perform before the show that song.
So it's always wonderful.
Is that your favorite holiday?
It's gotta be.
Christmas?
Of course.
Yeah, I mean.
I
have eight kids.
So Christmas at our house
is- Speaking of the Brady
Bunch.
Yeah, no kidding.
Is phenomenal.
And, you know, just the gifts and the food and the, you know, the Packers are playing that day too this year.
No, they're playing Thanksgiving.
I'll be watching that one too.
Yeah.
But, you know, it's always a great time.
Christmas.
And plus it's like having a day off.
I'm not doing a show.
On Christmas day.
On Christmas day.
Yeah.
But this is great.
Your show runs from November 28th through December 27th, Frank's Christmas.
Does it have a title, like a subtitle under Frank's Christmas?
Frank's Who Christmas.
Oh, nice.
Okay.
Were you a big fan of Dr. Seuss?
I
love Dr. Seuss.
In fact, when, when I was writing the show, I said, kids, give me all your Dr. Seuss books.
Cause I wanted to put in lines.
Like the, if you let's come to the show, you'll, you'll hear Cindy a little bit.
Well, I want to get the mayor present.
I'll give him one fish, two fish, maybe a blue fish and a red fish.
You know,
the moose makes it, the cat in the hat, you know, the one slur makes it, not in appearance, but in the verbiage, I use a lot of Dr. Seuss lines.
That's so great.
Yeah, it's fun.
How
fun,
yeah.
So when did you have this show done and
ready?
I had this show written, probably would have been a month ago.
Okay.
Yeah, because we're getting Christmas music.
First, I get the music, okay?
And this one is a little bit more modern.
We have some C in there, we got some George Michael, we got some, you know, secular and non-secular music in there, but there's some...
songs that maybe haven't heard in a while.
Remember, Step into Christmas by Elton John is in the show.
Step into Christmas, let's join together.
Anyway,
and Christmas is a time to say I love you, Billy Squire.
Nice.
Billy Squire's got a Christmas song, it's a big hit.
That's awesome.
Yeah, so.
Little Kelly Clarkson in the show.
Who is your favorite like of the pop, the pop singers that sing Christmas songs like Mariah Carey or Carolus Whisp, not Carolus Whisp, George Michael.
George
Michael.
I've been a huge fan of...
Last Christmas, my whole life, and I've never sang it in a show.
So this is my first time
singing this
song in a show.
And I sing it all the time when we do the Christmas parade or we got private parties and stuff.
And I've always wanted to do that song.
And it is, it's one of the songs that's been recorded by hundreds of artists too.
But I wanted to stay true and do the original kind of sound, the
Wham
sound and, you know, the Casio keyboard sound in the background
and the drum machine, it sounds great.
That's a great song.
It is.
Frank Herman says, my guest, he is the founder of Let Me Be Frank Productions.
They travel all over the state, and he is an absolute institution here in Northeast Wisconsin.
Check out his Christmas show at the Meyer Theater.
I just realized you've been here almost a half hour.
You haven't even played anything yet, but we'll do that after the news.
Sure, sounds good.
Yeah, okay.
Tell us quickly.
We got about a minute and a half till break, till the news, but what's, you got a show tomorrow at a school.
I do.
I love
that.
Jill at high school.
We do a fundraiser for the FFA.
They're sending some guys over.
some kids over to Ireland.
So it's a fundraiser.
It's at Gillette High School.
It's our tribute show, Elvis, Reba, Neil
Diamond, George
Jones, Karen Carpenter, Adele.
And we do our Christmas show and there are tickets available at the door.
It's dinner in a show.
It's at 6.30, Gillette High School.
And then Saturday we're up at venue 906 in Iron Mountain.
Doing our Christmas tribute show up there also.
So we're doing that show, I think seven times.
on or off days of the Christmas show in the next month and a half.
That's
so great.
So can people book you guys?
How would they find
out?
Give me a call, 920-371-4070.
Let me be Franks.com.
I just gave his phone number to the radio.
I put my cell phone everywhere because I want to know if you can't get tickets, if I can help you out.
If you're spam, I'm going to answer and not order your roofing or your windows, but I'll talk to you.
And I'll tell you tickets.
I love this
guy.
That's so great.
A great sweatshirt too.
People watching on the
stream.
Is it like a retro?
Where'd you get that?
It's a
retro.
Lambeau Field, I got this.
I also do Curly Lambeau in impersonation.
In fact, I'm doing it Friday for a group from Germany that's coming in.
So I'm playing
Curly
Lambeau.
Oh, nice.
Curly
Lambeau!
Sucks to be Frank Hermans.
We're coming back folks for act two after the news don't go anywhere Frank's gonna perform in the studio We got movie talk coming up and up north news talk coming up too in hour number two This is Pete Schwab in nightlight.
We'll be right back on the civic media radio network
I'm
Pete Schwab, and this is Nightlight.
Great to have you with me on a kind of a, would you call this a kick ass Monday Conrad, or just a basic?
Yeah, I'd say so.
It's three hours.
It is.
You gotta pace yourself.
I'm getting a little winded, but I took a knee outside.
Caught a blow, as they say.
And I can talk like that because we were talking sports.
Great to have you with me.
At 720 folks, Lindsay Fry from the Festival Theatre in St.
Croix Falls will be here to tell us about a really cool Christmas play they're putting on over there.
They do really great work.
Our question of the night is, in honor of National Butter Day, what is your favorite dairy product?
We are Dairylanders.
We need to represent.
And I'm going to ask my next
Guests that question to even though they're here to sing I'm gonna ask them about dairy because I take all the risks It is my pleasure to welcome back into the studio three of my absolute favorite people They're here representing doctors and recital Kim chef chick Chris and Paul Piat and you guys are married, correct?
We are yeah 25 years 25 years today.
No, that would have been cool.
That would have been ridiculous.
Yeah
Outstanding.
It's great to have you guys here.
Kim, you and I met almost two years ago, and we set this whole thing up.
We brought the Piets in because they're so talented.
They're
ringers.
They're
ringers.
You said I got a couple ringers.
I got a couple ringers.
I'm your
groupie.
You guys are so much fun to have here because you're very talented singers, but you also have a good sense of humor.
We have a lot of laughs when you're here.
We do, we do, we love coming and hanging out with you and it's fun.
Genuinely
like you.
Wow.
And that list might not be as long as people think.
It's probably
not, Paul.
I'm okay with that.
I know that I can be a real SOB sometimes.
I would not, nope, nope.
And you were, I think it asked us about our favorite dairy product.
I was about to, yeah.
I was so excited to answer that question.
Oh, I'm thrilled then.
Tell me please.
I feel like I've been waiting my whole life to answer this
question.
It's about time.
I,
you,
You know what I'm gonna say.
Well, Paul knows I love all dairy.
So it's hard for me to pick, but I love milk and I love all kinds of milk.
Like I grew up my grandparents farm.
They had, you know, the milk right from the cow.
And then we pasteurize it at their house.
And then we drink warm, fresh, pasteurized milk.
Conrad, you might have to take over for a few minutes
here.
Yeah.
But then, but then my dad had high cholesterol.
So then we went from like whole milk to skim milk.
But I also like skin milk, and then I like 2% and 1%, I like all the milk.
Chocolate milk.
You
like
all the dairy
milk.
All the dairy milk, oat milk.
I actually do not discriminate against non-dairy
milk.
I'm an oat milk guy.
Not my favorite.
These guys like the, you guys like the non-dairy milk, don't you?
Well, it's the whole lactose interaction.
Yeah, there's that minor
thing.
There's that kind of stuff.
You know, have you ever witnessed a pasteurizing?
That must be something.
Yeah.
What
happens?
What's that?
It's really, really, really hot.
You go out in the
pasture and it begins to levitate.
The milk starts
to bubble.
The pasture rise from
the
sun.
No, but that's a good analogy.
No, it's like you just basically get it super hot.
Really?
Yeah.
And it's like a pressurized system.
And so it uses pressure to like not really get it hot.
It's a lower temperature, high pressure.
Boil the devil
out of
it.
And my grandma would always get mad if we drank it before it was pasteurized because she grew up when people were drinking non-pasteurized milk and getting really, really sick.
And so she today would just like roll over in her grave knowing that people pay a lot of money for unpasteurized milk.
because she saw people get really sick and practically
bad.
Did they know what was
making?
Yeah, they knew it was bad milk and they had no choice because it was the depression and they had to drink it.
And what are you gonna
do?
No, this is interesting because the song you're gonna play for us is called Bad Milk.
So I think this is a great way for us to lead, no.
And what about you guys?
Paul, whip it up.
Paul is about ready.
I'm like, okay, bad one.
Oh, I love that,
that's great.
That was good.
Keep going.
That
was pretty good.
So what about you guys?
Do you have a favorite dairy product?
Ice cream is the, you know, obvious, right?
But when you're in the mood for like melted cheese,
like
on a sandwich, like a toasted sandwich with gooey melted cheese.
That's
pretty good.
That's pretty good.
What about you, Paul?
Gotta go with a good sharp cheddar.
Good sharp cheddar, nice.
And I like the stuff that's also got like cranberries in it or getting fancy, yeah.
Do you guys, are you
guys fans of the cheese log?
I don't know who created that.
Probably
a
guy, last name log, but he came up with that
and
that's
made, he's got
millions in cheese money.
And then the cheese ball.
And then the cheese ball.
Mr. Ball.
We've got a good friend that makes a mighty good cheese ball.
And likes to bring it to parties.
Cheese curds.
Just
fun to talk about cheese.
Growing up.
Dikesville Bowl, cheese curds, dust in
the state.
I feel like we had this conversation the last time we were in.
I feel like we did too.
No, it's National Butter Day today.
And my
favorite is actually Melted Butter.
I don't need a lot of dairy, but I will never say no to Melted
Butter.
Bread, potatoes.
Butter makes everything better.
Absolutely.
Conrad, did I leave anything out in the preparation of the dairy talk with the doctors and recital?
I don't think so.
Some people said sour cream today.
That's true.
Sour cream is great.
or Mexican food, love
that.
It's a great garnish.
We're very fortunate to be able to talk.
You know, in some foreign countries, they can't just have willy-nilly cheese talk.
We can talk about it here, though, and not be worried
about, exactly.
All right, so that was fun.
Thank you for indulging me in my dairy questions.
But how are you guys?
What is going on?
Tell us, for people who have not been to a doctors and recital performance, give us a little background,
Kim.
Wow.
What you will witness is first you're going to walk into the beautiful space of the Widener.
You know, one of a kind.
We're so lucky to have that gem in our community.
And we have physicians and other healthcare team members.
putting together essentially a variety show.
And then other musicians, some of our local talent in Northeast Wisconsin joins them on stage.
And you'll see things that range from classical to pop to country to jazz.
Sometimes we get really crazy and there's music theater.
I mean, it's just, it's a wide variety.
It's all to raise money for local nonprofits.
This year's theme is essentially helping and hunger in our community.
So we have several nonprofits that help to feed their community and we are fortunate to have
Just some wonderful nonprofits again this year every year at somebody different, but and then we also support music education and the arts education So that's also another subset of where our money that we raise goes So we get sponsors and we've kind of closed up our books with that and now it's all about ticket sales, which is of course One of the things we are asking our audience for spread the word because you can get a great ticket support some local causes enjoy wonderful music
these people will be on stage among many, many others.
And it's just a fun night.
And I don't know, like people say, yeah, I heard of it, but like doctors and recital.
I think it does.
It's kind of a weird name, but now we've done it so long, we have to stick with it.
It's not a recital.
It's more of just a cabaret kind of thing, variety, singing, instruments.
And it's
very talented people.
Very, very talented.
The first time you guys were here, I remember watching a clip and thinking, oh, there are like medical people who invite these performers to town and you guys play background or something.
But I'm like, they're all doctors or people in your
field and your
physician's assistant, right, Kim?
Yep.
So it's spectacular.
Yeah.
Well, every, every act has to be headlined by.
a physician, and maybe they're not the headliner, but they're definitely going to be one of the main players, one of the main singers.
They're organizing the act.
So one of our performers who's a neurosurgeon, I mean, he plays and he sings.
One of our performers who's a neurologist, he sings in a quartet, he sings in kind of a more of a group.
We've got all sorts of medical specialties involved, and it's pretty awesome.
I mean, it's not just a bunch of people who think they're good.
There's people who are actually good.
And if those
of you listening have health problems, this is the show to go to.
Yes.
Because if something does happen,
you are covered.
Yes, is there a doctor in the house?
You've got several.
There's
nothing but doctors in the
house.
Yes.
Kim Shevchik, Paul and Chris Piet are here.
They are here representing Doctors in Recital, a great show.
This year's show is in January, every year it's in January,
right?
It's always January.
Either the last Saturday or the second last, this year we're on the 24th.
So that last, second to last Saturday in January, 7 p.m.
and many people in our community probably already know this, but the Widener has kind of their own ticketing platforms.
You can just go right to the Widener, their main page.
You can find us there, get your tickets, and it's pretty easy peasy.
Can we hear something before we've got about five minutes to a break?
I think you
could belt something out in that time.
What do
you want to do, Paul?
Should we start with a little bit of what we call this?
Gospel?
A
little gospel.
Sure.
Doctors and recital.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that sings.
Kristen, Paul, Piat, Kim, Chef, Jake here representing the Doctors In Recital.
I want to talk about that, that song when we come back.
We're going to do a very quick break.
And then you guys are going to sing something else at some point.
We'll have a little Yahtzee, all kinds of fun stuff going on here.
Yahtzee?
I love ya.
Let's
roll for cheese curds.
We are coming right back with the Doctors In Recital on Nightlight with Peach Wabba.
Welcome
back.
This is Nightlight.
I am Pete Schwabba.
We are hanging out with the doctors in Recital.
Our question of the night is...
Honor of National Butter Day, what is your favorite dairy product?
We have to represent.
We are the dairy state.
Michael from the 608 says, yeah, hey guys, it's cheese.
1000%, he's leaving no doubt Conrad.
What other food group has a dedicated drawer in the fridge?
Well, vegetables.
Veggies.
But I'm not gonna sidetrack him, he's in a role, he says, and don't tell me veggies.
I just stole his thunder.
Spoiler alert!
We all know the veggie crisper is also for emergency cheeses.
That's great, Michael.
Thank you.
Love it.
Dave on the stream says, I think he means not drink.
He says, I will drink or eat any dairy that comes from a nut.
Milk must come from a mammary gland.
Like Mr. Focker said, a cat has nip... Nope.
What is that?
A cat?
Is that from the movie that a cat actually had nipples?
Yeah.
Okay.
A cat has nipples.
Can you milk a cat?
Well, I can't really argue with that, Dave.
And then he clarifies that he'll not eat.
And then he put the emoji for memory glance, for lack of a better.
Oh.
Yes, I was wondering what that was.
Now I see
it.
Yeah, my wife
says
that to me all the time.
No, I can't wait to get home.
Here are, you know, no.
But we have a few textors who are a little obsessed with the women's anatomy.
Would you find that?
Was that accurate, Conrad?
Yeah, I would
say so.
And they
find ways around it.
They're tasteful, but you know what they're thinking.
So
I don't think that counts as a dairy either.
All right, the Doctors in Recital are being represented here in the studio tonight by Kim Shevchik, Paul and Chris Pia.
They come by, well, in the summer and in the fall, you guys do on stage for cancer as well in the summer, which is so great.
So Doctors in Recital, you can get tickets at the Weidner website.
It's January 24th, and the Weidner Center is a phenomenal facility with it.
Beautiful.
Some of the best acoustics I would
imagine,
which are.
Is there anyone, is it kind of the same, like if people go every year, are there different featured singers every year?
Not that they wouldn't want to see the same
ones, but
like.
There's like your core anchors.
I mean, some of us have been in it almost from the beginning.
Dr. Ringwellski, singing gospel.
I'm in there, I usually, I'm a hodgepodge performer.
We've done a wide variety.
Let's see, Dr. Chun, she always does some very, very classy piano.
I mean, she.
She basically turned down Julliard to go to medical school.
Oh, we've talked about her.
Wow.
Yeah, we've talked about her.
That's really emasculating.
But then you'll have people.
You know what I mean?
Honestly, she's not even a guy and I'm emasculating.
Like, she could have gone to Julliard.
No.
I'll go to medical school.
Yeah.
I'll save lives.
Right.
I'm like, whatever.
With me,
it's either do nails or go into show business.
Those are my options.
And I'm not sure I chose the right one.
Waiter.
Waiter.
I would.
I would
drop something.
That's kind of like show business, actually.
Yeah, that's true.
If you want to make money, you need tips.
That's like the old question.
Oh, my wife's an actress.
Oh, really?
What restaurant does she work at?
So there
you go.
Well, I mean, you will never be able to predict what the show is because it's different every year.
There's not, and we try really hard to not repeat songs too, so it's pretty rare that you'll be like, didn't someone do this already?
We have a choir that is every year picking a couple different songs and they usually do some show tunes, but not always.
We had a Moana song, what was that one that, don't talk about Bruno or one of them?
We don't talk about Bruno.
We don't talk about Bruno, that was cute.
It's fun, they try to do something that's kind of like in that popular.
current timing, things that are classics and oldies but goodies.
I don't know, it's been all over the map.
So do you have a theme in terms of, first of all, I just want to say too, you guys did Amazing Grace right before the break.
There are three songs where I really struggle to hold back tears and they're tears of joy because of the beauty of the songs.
And Amazing Grace is one of them.
Really?
Ave Maria, forget it.
And Danny Boy.
Those three songs, I just can't.
If it's like a funeral setting or in somewhere where there's perfect acoustics and it goes right to your bones, it's just like those songs in particular.
But are there songs like that in this year's show?
What can you tell us about?
I know you said you'd mix it up a little bit.
Is there anything you can share that we're definitely gonna hear?
Hmm, let's see.
Well, we are doing listen to the music.
Do you remember the Doobie Brothers?
Oh nice, I love that.
And we are lucky that the Power Tool and the horns from Big Mouth and the Power Tool horns local band, they will be joining us on stage, so that'll be exciting.
Excellent.
There's always, oh, there you go, thanks.
Chris always is at the ready with the actual plan.
Such a teacher.
I can't help it, can't shut that off.
So do you know the, oh gosh, it was popular back in the day.
I want to say like mid to late 2000s, Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.
That was like that kind of like jazzy, what would you call that style?
It was popular on pop radio.
That one was super popular for a bit.
Feeling Good, that one's gonna be good.
Brad Lach, he likes to sing kind of one year he did Elton John, he's done show tunes, but Feeling Good with the East High School Jazz Band, which is always fun to get some of the high school kids singing.
and playing and then we have Like ragtime, you know the ragtime musical.
Yeah,
there's lots of variety.
We've got a couple.
Oh, yeah I love
ragtime.
I love Scott Joplin.
He's like one of my all-time favorite.
There's a couple that are Like written for the show so dr. Cuss has an original piece and then every year dr. Vardis writes a song about our recipients
This year, his song is titled, A Biker Dude Named Matt.
I cannot believe that that's the title, but that's what it's called.
But it's almost always moving.
Usually, if you read the lyrics of his song, like, you were just saying, like, they'll move you to tears.
Last year's was really good because, you know, there's different recipients we've had over the years, and many of them do involve...
We tend to pick things that are for our health and wellness in Brown County.
So a lot of things with mothers and children, you know, hungering this year.
But the story was, you know, about kids that are, need a place that feels like home and smells like home and is like home.
And he kind of wrote it from the kid's perspective.
It was beautiful.
Yeah.
You never know what you're going to get.
I love that.
There's always a touch of things you'll know.
We're going to talk more about this after the news.
We'll be back for act three.
No longer act two.
It's a three act show now, Conrad.
Look alive.
You ready?
All right.
We're coming back after the news.
More with the doctors in recital who are here.
Kim, Paul, and Chris.
They're going to perform again as well.
And then we've got some talk about a great show coming up in Western Wisconsin in hour number two as well.
