I don't know what it's like in your part of the state, but here in northeast Wisconsin, it's a little rainy, a little chilly.

There's a smell of pine needles in the air.

It's an absolutely beautiful evening.

Monday is finally here, folks.

And I've got a terrific show for you tonight.

You know, tomorrow it's going to be 97

degrees,

right?

You know, what's so funny is last week we were talking about, I said, what a great week to have a buy.

Like the Bears and the Packers both had a buy.

I'm sure a couple of other teams did too.

But I'm like, all right, there's no football to watch.

So we've got Cubs Brewers, though, and a gorgeous weekend.

Well, the weekend was pretty damn hot.

Yeah, it was.

And the cup sucked.

So it was not the weekend I had a vision, but you must be happy.

Brewer bats showed up, that's for sure.

Yeah, they showed it.

You know, I was, I got nervous when I heard the first pitch go out of the stadium.

I was like, oh, here we go.

But after that, yeah, I was like, every single bat just was hot.

They looked well rested.

They looked like they couldn't wait to play baseball.

Honestly, God, it was like, oh, okay.

Because sometimes you don't know like those, those layoffs can be, can kind of work against you.

But boy, that was,

you

know, it was not the case.

When you said there's no football to watch, I watched football Saturday and Sunday.

So.

Well, I watched part of the Badgers.

Let me ask you

something.

You shouldn't watch that.

That was bad.

But that call that they overturned.

There was not inconclusive evidence.

I don't know if you know the one I'm talking about.

Some guy's hand was right over the guy's foot.

And I'm like, how is that inconclusive evidence?

And I think it was a badger.

I can't remember who it was.

It just irritated me because you couldn't even see and they still overturned it.

It was kind of ridiculous.

It went against the rule.

And the announcers didn't even say anything either.

For my mental health, I've stopped watching badger games.

It's just, it's really frustrating.

I'm waiting for their basketball to come back up because last year they were really decent.

I'm hoping it continues this year.

Yeah, we'll see.

I've got a, I've got a chai latte from the Kira here.

Well, it's probably like condensed, I would assume, or the flavor, which is delicious.

But this is like the perfect fault.

I'm not even really a chai guy.

I had a pretty good weekend though.

I did watch I I was just so bummed out sports wise because the Badgers and then the Cubs Brewers game so I watched highest to lowest the Spike Lee movie that stars Denzel Washington and I gotta tell you it got like a 90-something on Rotten Tomatoes and I was very excited to see it because of Spike Lee and Denzel Washington

And I liked it.

It was very Spike Lee.

And Spike Lee has become this filmmaker where I don't really lose myself in his films, like Black Clansman.

I liked it.

I love the music.

I love the acting.

I love the look of it.

But it always seemed like a movie.

And some filmmakers are just like that.

But Highest to Lowest, I felt was like that too.

They had all these different kind of, the music is great, the acting is great, but...

Here's what ruined it here.

It didn't ruin the movie for me.

But the mayhem guy was in it.

Oh,

the all state guy

or whatever it is.

Yeah.

It's this great cast Denzel Washington.

Jeffrey Wright love him.

The woman who played Denzel Washington's wife.

I did not think she was a very good actor.

Coach Rick Fox was in it.

Rod Strickland who went to DePaul when I was there.

played coach Strickland.

I don't remember seeing him in the movie.

But yeah, the mayhem guy who was on Law and Order Special Victims Unit for the first two seasons and then he went and made millions of dollars being the mayhem guy.

Why do you cast him in your movie?

He's the mayhem guy.

I could not get past that.

And my wife's like, well, he's a good actor.

I'm like, I know he's a good actor.

But the minute you become a spokesperson for a brand or an insurance company,

There's a million other actors you've could you could have cast in that role

you know

where I don't go There mayhem guy

there is yeah, I would say the same thing

so weird

when you get to that point where you see him almost every day when you're watching TV It's like how can you get past that me like I can't see this guy is this act this character or whatever I couldn't and and

like If you're gonna use him

put him in a movie and let him be on the screen all the time so you can kind of readjust and he buries himself in this role.

But he was like one of the secondary cops and kind of a hard ass.

And I'm like, that's the mayhem guy.

Why am

I

listening?

No, the ceiling is going to fall on him right now or he's going to knock a vase over.

It was just such an odd choice.

And I'm like thinking he must be like Spike Lee's friend.

I don't know.

It was just an odd choice.

And then.

I don't know.

I kind of like Spike Lee, but sometimes he kind of loses me a little bit.

But Denzel Washington was great, and it was good.

It was based on a Kira Sawa film.

I think of the same title.

And I did dig it, but I didn't love it.

I was kind of slightly let down.

you all cast them and it's like all them clashing against each other.

So you won.

That's really

interesting.

We should cut together lines from all of their commercials and see if we can put together like a little video or something.

But you saw Freaky Friday.

Did you have to, did you feel a little.

Duded out by football.

So you were like, I got a much freakier Friday.

Well, I really did enjoy the freaky freaky Friday when I was younger, you know, so I was like, yeah, why not give it a shot?

And I regret watching the movie.

I'm

surprised I got through all of it.

Oh, you know, it just it didn't hit the same because I mean, obviously I'm older now.

Right.

And all the stuff that happens and it couldn't happen.

So kind of feels like it's

like your disbelief.

I don't know.

It goes like

Is it supposed to be real or is it supposed to be like, you know, not it's like they switch bodies.

But then

the rest of it's like playing it off like, oh, this could be real.

Yeah, I get it.

I probably won't see that now.

I would have seen it like when it first came out opening weekend just because I was curious.

But I feel like those are so tired.

Some of those body swapping or especially when they wait that long to make a sequel.

It's like, really?

How far down the list?

I mean, don't try to sell it to us now, like you gotta see this.

You would have done that 20 years ago.

I just, you know, maybe if you're a family that has some young children, maybe

that's,

maybe you watch both.

But yeah, if you're a young adult like me, I didn't like it.

I was surprised this new smashing machine he's in.

He makes really mediocre movies, I feel, but then he makes this and he really throws himself into it and he got like a 10 minute standing ovation in France at Cannes.

And it kind of was a disappointment here.

And the reviews were good.

I think he got 70s on Rotten Tomato.

But I'm starting to think maybe the huge response he got was because they were surprised or like, oh wow, like he wasn't mediocre, like he was good.

But that doesn't mean the movie's good.

So I am curious to see it.

It opened with like six million bucks at the box office.

It was one of two movies that cracked the top 10, top five this weekend.

The other one being Taylor Swift.

I mean, Taylor Swift, I like her, but oh my gosh.

She could film herself doing chores and put it on the big screen and people would watch it.

And they go, what a masterpiece.

She just, look at her.

She's a normal girl.

She sweeps.

She wipes the counters, which she probably doesn't.

I love her.

But honestly, she could do anything.

And it's not, she's crazy talented.

But how is that the number one movie?

Like, you got this amazing movie out there in one battle after another.

And that slipped to number two.

But Taylor Swift owns the world right now, so.

Anyway, but let us know.

Fairly new museum that's doing some really cool stuff.

I wasn't sure you'd come back after the way things went last time.

I'm a glutton for punishment.

I remember you said you were a huge Simpsons fan.

So I was going to put

together this quiz and then we ended up adding Mike to the show because it's the playoffs.

But that is in the back of my mind.

I do, it's kind of my, it's just so that, like the comfort, like you just turn it on and you're not quite sure what to turn on.

So I don't know that I've seen like the newest season, but I do have them on quite a bit.

The

newest season, like season 37 or whatever

it is.

Whatever number they're on.

Cause I usually just go on Disney plus and then I turn it on and then.

So I'll admit, I'm a Simpsons fanatic, but not, I don't, I haven't, I watched like the first seven.

And then occasionally I'll see a clip

Well,

yeah, could be an actor, could be a character from a movie, the fictional character, but someone who reminds you of you.

So again, I shouldn't say this either, but my joke used to always be at an old job that my work spirit animal was Ron Swanson, if you remember Ron.

Oh, yeah.

At

least that's who I

wanted to be.

But in reality, I was really hey, hey from Moana, running around and kind of like pecking at certain things and a little here and there.

So I don't know if that still applies, but I think both of them, I think both of them

are great.

See, couldn't you just say Ron Swanson kind of, that's an easy one.

It's a good one.

It's a great one.

of its favorite show.

So for those who are unaware of this great Malva Cultural Center that we have in Green Bay, please give us some background.

I knew it was, I had really heard of it, but you said it was only a couple of years old.

Yeah.

How do you just start a museum?

That's crazy.

So.

It was in the works for like a decade.

So it isn't like we just kind of threw everything together and there we were.

the Malvas who were named after were talking with the Depeer Historical Society and they were kind of going back and forth on what they could do and it kind of ended up rolling into this larger cultural center.

So it started about 10 years before we opened and now we're rolling on two years.

So you're talking about a dozen years to where we are right now.

So I know that it's very new, but we're really kind of not

in

that sense.

So there was a lot of...

a lot of planning and then there was building and then people that drive by, you know, the famous roundabout and to peer, I'm sure sought going up and question what it was.

And so, yeah, we've been around for a little bit, but not really, if that makes

sense.

Oh, it does.

I'm sure tons of planning would have to go into something like that.

And how far ahead do you have to get your exhibits?

Like, is that something you book years out, months out?

So we have a book all the way through 2026.

We've actually booked all the way through 2027, even though we haven't announced it yet.

But all of next year is booked.

Nice.

OK, so let's talk about this great.

some really cool stuff you have.

How is the life in space exhibit going?

Because I read about that and I'm like, I'm going there today.

Like it looked that cool.

It is.

It's really cool.

So it's kind of split into two, I guess, parts.

So the first part is more, I think what you would think of as museum.

It has some artifacts that has a piece, an actual piece of the moon, which you can, you can touch.

It's not from the, it's not from an Apollo mission.

It's from a meteorite, but there's an actual piece of the moon.

There's some different spacesuits.

There's a lifetime model of the.

life-size model of the lunar rover.

So that's kind of all on one side.

There's also a simulator where you can try to land the space shuttle.

And then you kind of walk through this little international space station module.

And when you get through to the other side, we have more simulators.

So we have F-18s that you can fly, the

virtual

reality.

We have a virtual reality international space station so you can put on the goggles and you walk through like this section of the space station and you can push things out of the way and you can look through windows and...

We

have

a multi-axis trainer.

So for people who don't know what that is, if you've ever seen the person kind of strapped to the middle of a gyroscope, spinning all over, we have one of those.

Yeah, and then we have a little virtual reality kind of roller coaster on the space station as well.

So what is it?

Like, is it primarily focused on kids?

Or is it just for everybody?

I think it's just for everybody because you know as you walk through you get a little bit of information about like the first animals in space and then the Apollo missions that landed on the moon and then the space shuttle and the International Space Station and then I think the hands-on area I kind of tell people I think the coolest part is the virtual reality space station part because you can walk through

like I said look through windows you can see the space toilet which you know a lot of people enjoy the space toilet yeah you can see we actually have a model of the space toilet

we

have to go

upside down or how does that work

no it looks it just I guess it kind of looks just like a little outhouse but you think like you're in space so it can't

You know, you need some precautions so things don't float around.

So it's a little bit, you know, a little bit more engineered, I guess, than the ones we use on Earth.

And I like how you said you're in space.

That's

where I didn't know if that was a pun or what.

No.

But I'll take it.

I'll say I did it on purpose.

Very good.

So that's it.

That exhibit is September 26th through January 5th.

What are, like, is it more of a hands-on?

Like, these simulators sound great.

Is

that what people go there for, too, is like the hands-on experience?

Like, an actual lunar rover.

I mean, can people go on it?

Can they take it for a spin

or what?

No, so you would know that's just the artifacts that you can see.

But it is kind of cool to see.

It's kind of like a...

I guess a retro golf cart.

But I know the original Lunar Rovers, the ones that went up in space, like their wheels were made out of piano wire.

So yeah, because you couldn't inflate it.

They didn't have enough gravity and pressure to stay like rubber

and air.

So they

ended up making them out of piano wire.

So there's always kind of cool little facts that you can learn as you walk through.

I think too, when you when you look at it, it's

I guess you realize sometimes how complicated it is to live and work in space, you know, like there's a whole display that's just about space food and how it's packaged and kind of how it's evolved from, you know, more of the toothpaste to a little bit more appetizing as I would say, because look at it.

But you should let people eat space food I've always seen those like on TV like when they would make it and I was always curious like what does that taste like

yeah I mean we have some freeze-dried in our in our gift shop that you can check out yes we have some freeze-dried ice cream so if you come to the exhibit make sure you stop and splurge our gift shop and see kind of what's in there but you can you can give it a try there

how much does a nice

I don't I don't know and it all it would all have to be like vacuumed in you know, I'm curious maybe Dehydrated you put a little water in and shake it up and it works Very

She is the marketing director at the Malva Cultural Center here in Green Bay They have this great exhibit called life in space and it goes September 26th through January 5th.

I think it sounds fantastic when people go there

Because everything you said sounds so cool the simulators and all that it like how long are you in line waiting for something like that?

Or is there some days where you get right in or there's

some

days where there's a line around the block?

What's that like?

It depends on when you come in so Mondays and Wednesdays, we're kind of a little bit slower, right?

So we're open till five Mondays and Wednesdays, so if you come in those days you can probably get right through pretty easily Saturdays and Sundays tend to be a little bit busier We are open Thursdays Fridays and Saturday nights until nine which

I don't know that

everybody realized

is because we do slow down a bit than after five as well.

So if you come in then, you're probably gonna get in and have a little bit more time with everything, a little bit less lines.

How much does it cost

to get in?

So you can get into the center itself for free, and we always are stressing that.

We always have an exhibit that's free downstairs, it's an art exhibit.

To get in the exhibition life in space is gonna be $20 for adults, it's $10 for kids, and then there's discounts for seniors and for military.

Very cool.

What museums do you like?

Like, where did you like going before you had this gig?

Is this your first museum gig?

It isn't.

It's like my third.

Oh, really?

Yeah, I was at the Children's Museum in Appleton for a little bit, and then actually, I tell people in a different life, I actually worked at the U.S.

Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Oh, wow.

Yeah, I worked at Space Camp.

Was that fun?

That seems like it

would be a blast.

It was fun and it's come up a lot more now with this exhibit because some of this stuff has come up and I'll just kind of, you know, know all of this stuff and people look at you like, that's just really weird that you know this.

That is why I taught it for multiple years down there.

Yeah, that's fantastic.

Your mission statement says you inspire curiosity.

What

types of exhibits are people most curious about?

Like, I would imagine space is a huge

one,

but what else?

Like, do you have an exhibit that's on the way or, you know, when you have it, it's going to be packed or people love this kind of

stuff?

I think that varies a ton.

I will say this, that we are having an exhibit on Cowboys next summer.

And we have actually had people come in because on the website, you know, it said the dates and they thought it was in this summer.

So they wanted to see it already.

So that one has gotten, people are really excited about that.

It's called Cowboys History in Hollywood.

Right now, it's about to open in the next couple of weeks at the Reagan Presidential Museum in California, and then it's gonna come over to us.

So that one, I think people are pretty excited about.

Personally, I'm a little bit of a history nerd too.

We have The Real Gangest Con coming in the beginning of next year.

The guy?

What do you mean The Real

Gangest Con?

About him, about him.

Sorry, you threw me off.

I think it's not really Genghis

Khan.

It's

just kind of about the reality of him and not the myth.

Conrad, do you know who Genghis Khan is?

Or Genghis Khan, as John Kerry used to call him?

He's the Chinese

leader, right?

Or something like that.

He was.

Supposedly, he is responsible for the lives of like 16,000 human beings or something.

Like he

was not

shy about...

you know, spreading your seeds, so to speak.

In fact, this documentary I watched, they went to this coffee shop in San Francisco in Chinatown, and like four out of the five people they talked about all thought they were descendants of Genghis Khan.

That's insanity.

I know when we've kind of been reading up on him, and I think you could Google it to get the actual number, but I think he had over 400 wives.

So he was, I guess, a very busy gentleman, like all those wives and lots of support.

I mean, he had a good job, so it's okay.

that's not that's like you have more than two anniversaries a day and some

days of

the year

yeah

or maybe just do them all at once i don't know

you just have like a one day or my guess would be like i don't know for sure but i get you know as you conquer you probably kind of marry

you know, the chief's daughter or something like that.

But I don't know for sure.

I guess we're all going to find out if you come to the cultural center in January.

I'm responsible for two lives and I'm not even sure they're both mine.

I love them both.

know, so it's more about just like.

We

had a big weekend display coming into the museum this week.

Oh, greater weekends.

Katie Compton is here from the Malva Cultural Center.

If you haven't checked it out, folks, it's right here in Green Bay.

It's only a couple of years old, and they do some really cool stuff.

And it's a huge space, isn't it?

Yeah, we are about 77,000 square feet.

And then our main exhibit hall is 10,000 square feet.

And then we have a full service restaurant, say, around Broadway.

And then our cafe is open all of the same hours that the center is open.

So you can go there and grab a cup of coffee.

Nice.

Get kind of like a baked good or something lunchy.

And our patios are open.

So I mean.

Today was kind of maybe not the best day, but it's been

really nice

out, so you can come hang out on the patio.

Thursday nights, we've been doing live music on the patio, which is also free.

You can just kind of walk in and go to the patio and pull up a chair, and we have fireplaces, fire pits, if you will.

And you can just hang out, yeah.

Is it like you're getting a community there, like you're hoping people just come there and have a sandwich, even if they don't go

into

the exhibits or anything?

Yeah, it's kind of a...

all of the above so you know some people just come for the exhibits and some people don't ever go to the exhibits they come in and have dinner or they come and go to music or they'll come see a film or you know now we're getting a little bit more popular with people during the day coming for a meeting and grabbing a cup of coffee and chatting or coming for lunch so you know if you're in the area yeah you can just stop by and hang out on the patio a little bit we have an upstairs patio you can look at the river and

Tell us about the Frankenstein.

This sounded really cool.

You have a Frankenstein

showing.

So this is the first time we have done a showing from the National Live Theater, which is out of London.

And so this is a filming of the play that was live.

And it has Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature.

and Johnny Lee Miller is Dr. Frankenstein.

So you're gonna come in, we have a beautiful screen, we have a beautiful theater, you can come in and you can watch this production of this play.

I love it.

Yeah, it's

cool stuff like that.

That's offbeat kind of different, you know,

and that's kind of what we try to do is look for something that is just a little bit different, but yet still really interesting.

So this one obviously goes with Halloween with Frankenstein.

So it is a little I've watched the preview.

I've not seen the, you know, the whole play yet.

To me, it looks a little bit scary, but it goes with Halloween, right?

So I just, you know, if you're going to bring your kids, maybe watch the preview first and make sure that it's something that they might enjoy.

I

mean, it's a play.

It's a recording.

Bad

kids, kids watch, the head's getting lopped off on AMC.

Yeah, it's kind of crazy.

I don't know, it looks like they really did some interesting things with

it.

So I'm kind of intrigued to watch it actually.

Plus there's a movie coming out soon too, the Frankenstein movie with Jacob Elordi, I think plays the monster,

if

I'm not mistaken.

I did not know that.
