Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.
This is Night Light with Peach Wabba.
Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.
And now a guy who considers a silver medal, a participation award, Peach Wabba.
Welcome to Night Light, ladies and gentlemen.
Friday night a version of the show I almost I almost morphed into an Italian accent to our Conrad Well, let's hear it a Friday night a version of a night.
Please don't do that again It was spot on come on man Welcome folks.
I am Pete Schwabba.
This is nightlight.
We are hoping to take you into your weekend tonight with two hours of all out unabashed unedited fun well partially edited lots of stuff going on tonight
I did it again.
A lot of stuff onto the show tonight.
What's up with you today?
Did you have a Italian meal or something?
Have a lot of pasta?
You know what I think it is?
I think I had, like you said, what you were talking about earlier.
I had too much caffeine, and it's too damn hot out.
I'm just grouchy.
I don't know what it is.
Do you have warm coffee on a hot day?
I
do.
That's your
problem.
I like hot coffee.
Well, I don't know if you need to escalate it like that.
Yeah, I do.
I don't know.
I like hot coffee.
I'll drink a cold coffee, but I prefer the hot.
Well, mine has to be ice cold.
It's on a hot day, but what's your temperature cut off?
I mean, we're talking 60 here, 80 or what?
All right, so I'm the opposite way probably.
I'll drink cold coffee in the winter.
Even in the winter, wow.
I think the whole point of coffee is to kind of warm your soul a little
bit.
I think it's for the caffeine.
Yeah, but
you could do that.
You could take a pill for that.
Well, it's not as fun.
or a Red Bull.
It doesn't taste as though Red Bull is, you know, you remember how you tried Red Bull that coffee and you're like a little too sweet for me.
I don't like it.
I don't drink some water and go to bed.
Get some rest and hydrate.
There's no point.
There's no reason for
anyone
to drink Red Bull.
Yeah.
In college, I drank a lot of Red Bull.
Really?
Well, honestly, Red Bull trucks would come like every week.
you know, like, or not trucks, the little cars that have the Red Bull thing in the back.
And then they'd be like, you want a Red Bull?
First month's free.
And I'm on my way to class.
I'm like, yes, I will take one,
please.
And they're free.
And that's how they hook you.
It's like a drug dealer.
I mean,
I'm just saying.
Red Bull
drug dealer.
That's how I got in, you know, that's how I developed a crack habit on the way to class.
Hey, what do you got there?
Fun show tonight, folks.
We're going to talk a little golf, a little kids golf, a great program.
that is happening right here in Northeast Wisconsin.
It's a national organization, but we have a chapter here in N-E-W-I called First Tea.
John Sabo will be here at 6.35.
He is the executive director of the Northeast Wisconsin branch of First Tea.
So we'll talk to John.
They do some really great things for youth, the youth of America.
Won't anybody think of the children well first he is and John will be here at 6 35 and then it is a bar band Friday night 7 35 tonight folks You know the time you know the place and you know the guest Terry bar co-host of max inc radio on WMDX Which you can also hear on the podcast at civic media dot US she will be here She's our Wisconsin music expert and she's featuring Well tonight
We have an artist from Madison.
She's gonna bring us and one from Northeast Wisconsin here who
we are We've met.
They're great
on the show.
Maybe not even a month ago.
They did a live performance to rocked it.
Yeah, it was awesome Yeah, it was great.
Love these guys.
So it'll be fun to talk about them again with Terry.
I'm anxious to get Terry's take on them too because
Um, you know, Terry brings us so much music.
Yeah.
Over the last two years, I think we might have, and a couple of times we introduced her to someone.
So that sounds kind of fun.
It might be, it might be the case with a horror screen.
Yes.
Yeah.
You know, as soon as they were done, I texted her, I was like, these guys are awesome.
Yeah.
And you know, they have such a unique sound.
That's why I really like them.
Oh, totally.
They're like mixing different like
It's kind of, it's got some funk, it's got some psychedelics, some rock, some indie roots.
It's just great stuff.
And her second artist tonight, Shikari Desherre, I don't want to say too much.
We'll
let Terry get into all
that, but they're both great.
So stick around for Barbie and Friday Night, folks, at 7.35.
And I want to get this out of the way, because I thought this was a cool thing.
We have a friend who is next door at Rising Grand Coffee, Jocelyn.
She brings us free coffee once in a while, you know.
And I'm happy to pay for it, because she makes outstanding coffee.
I make it sound like she's bringing us free, because she's giving me two free coffees.
To be honest,
she hasn't given me one.
She could
step it up a little bit.
We like them a lot.
They have great gelato, great coffee.
And her family is having a fundraiser this weekend, but anybody is welcome.
It's October 4th.
That's tomorrow at 1264 Brayden Lane into Peer, Wisconsin, 5-4-1-1-5.
Look it up on the Apple Maps, the Google Maps, or your Atlas, or your Thomas Guide.
It
starts at 12 PM until the food is finished.
And this poster I'm looking at...
Is outstanding and it's they're trying to raise money for a family member who needs a lot of money They don't have health insurance and she's got Lyme disease So I told Jocelyn I would put this out there and if you want to go and have some food it goes to a good cause and it's It just looks outstanding if I live in Green Bay I would go to this I'm not saying it's not worth the hour drive To come back from right now, but on a Saturday like if it was right after the show I'd be over there mowing these tacos because this poster looks amazing
If I send this to you, can you put it up on the screen?
Yes, I can.
Let's do
that.
Jocelyn's worth it.
Even though she brings me free coffee.
Yeah, it's all right.
It's all right.
No, she gives me free water whenever I go over there.
No, they're awesome.
She and Abdi, her husband, it's a great business, rising grind.
Check it out.
But there's the poster, I just shared it.
And if you're around and to appear tomorrow at noon, great food and really nice people.
And it's for a great cause.
So check it out if you're so inclined.
I've got this thing here.
I gotta move this from the stream.
There you go.
There it is.
There's a poster.
If you're watching on the stream, you can check it out.
That food looks amazing.
Yeah, that looks tasty.
See, now if I'm you, a young single guy with an appetite, con, huh?
Go get yourself a couple tostadas.
Yeah.
Sounds pretty
good.
I've heard there are going to be a lot of single people there.
I'm just saying.
I'm not trying to like.
I'm not that guy, I'm just saying.
My wife went through that phase when we were like in our 20s, just trying to set everybody up.
I'm like, you gotta don't act out loud.
Sometimes people don't want that.
I had a thing, I was sitting on my porch today, kind of prepping the show, and I realized something about myself.
I think I would rather be attacked by a mountain lion than have just some little thing that flies land on me.
that
can do no damage even if it tried.
I don't know what happens to me.
I call it bug spazzing.
Something lands on you and I literally freak out.
What if a mountain lion lands on you?
At
least I see it coming.
You're done.
No, I do the thing where I stick my forearm way down its throat so it can't bite me.
You know that could mow your arm off right there.
It could, but it's easy for me to say that because there are very few mountain lions in Marinette, Wisconsin.
I see
like one a month.
You never know.
Exactly.
So I got to calm down because it's not really, it's like, it can't even hurt you or anything.
No.
It was like a fly or some type of horse flyers.
You know, the one, okay, when it's like this type of weather.
Yeah, it's those like swarm of like little tiny bugs like
the gnats or the mayfly
accidentally like walk into it and all of a sudden they're just all over you.
It's horrible.
That's That's that's terrible.
You know what I did about a week and a half ago.
I Walked toward my sliding doors to get out to the porch And I walked through a web, but it was all sticky.
Oh
and a friend of mine said that's when they have just they like just literally spun the web
So
you destroyed the home
I did and I didn't I didn't think about it and then later I think was the next night I look up and there's a spider web huge spider inside my house and I Still couldn't just wrap that up and put it outside.
I'm sure it's already moved back in
You know, I have I have one when I lived in Milwaukee that Would be on my my car mirror like the left.
Oh, yeah
And it just every morning I'd go out there and there'd be a new deal.
Why do they do?
I know that happens to my mirror.
I think you can get under, you know, get behind that mirror.
Yeah.
And then they kind of burrow in there.
Creepy.
Yeah.
But every morning I'd be like, all right, I'm going to wreck your home today.
You're a home wrecker.
Hey, let's get to our nightlight question of the night.
We got a good one.
Here it is.
Let's talk about the question.
Okay, question.
Question.
Question.
Pregunta.
Question.
Question.
Okay, I have a
question.
Questions.
This question.
Domanda.
Question.
Question.
Questions.
What celebrity do people tell you you look like?
Or what celebrity do you wish you looked like?
What celebrity do people tell you you look like and what celebrity do you want to look like 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 civic you can also text us on the app We love getting texts on the app and you can also drop us a stream comment at YouTube Facebook or X or Twitter or whatever or Friendster drop us a stream comment.
We will read it on the radio and Let's have some fun with this.
I I'll go first And I said this on social media too when I'm in shape
I hear Sean Penn a lot.
When I'm not in shape, I hear Chris Penn, his fat brother.
Oh, no.
It's terrible, but it's like, yeah, I'm one of those people when I put on weight, I look like a different guy.
It's not even like, you wouldn't look at me and go, is that Pete?
But with a few extra pounds, you go, who is that?
You know, some guys get like, they get a little punch, but their face looks the same.
Nope, not me.
I go full Chris Penn.
I have a picture of Chris Penn.
Put it up.
Pulled
up.
Do it.
I have
it.
Great actor.
I'm just looking at you and going back and forth.
And I'm not Chris Penn Footloose.
This is Chris Penn like, was he in Reservoir Dogs?
I didn't even know Sean Penn had a brother.
He died in like 06.
Did you have to find the fattest picture of him like he's not he's a better looking guy than that Yeah, but that's honestly, and I've heard when I was younger I used to hear Michael Douglas a lot I'd hear Don Henley and none of them I minded you know Michael Douglas handsome enough guy But I was on they call it the incline in Pittsburgh you go up the hill and it's like what the miners used to to ride So I'd go up the hill to the condo.
I was probably 26
And there were these two girls that were like, you're Michael Douglas.
Are you Michael Douglas?
Why are you in Pittsburgh, Michael Douglas?
I go, Michael Douglas is like 60.
I might look like his younger brother, but honestly, do the math here.
Terrible.
See, there's a lot of nice pictures at Christopher Penn.
You could have picked.
That was really mean.
What did you say?
I said, Ryan Gosling.
Oh, I can see that.
I couldn't even joke about it.
My God.
I said Ryan Gosling, you know, but you know, the celebrity I wish I looked like the rock.
But right now he looks more like the pebble.
So
yeah, you'd rather look like the rock than Ryan Gosling.
Yeah.
You look like you could pass for Ryan Gosling right after he was born.
You look like baby
Ryan
Gosling.
You know,
you're both good looking.
I did have someone say something really, really mean to me once in my feelings.
It was someone I've never met, they just texted me, you know, I wanted the dating apps a while ago.
And it said, hey, you look like someone.
I said, okay, who's that?
And they said, Josh Gad.
And I said, please never text me again.
You know what you should have said?
Let me ask you this.
Can Josh Gad bench 250?
That you got to think you know own it man and go back out.
You know, I Josh Gad has he's pretty funny, but oh, yeah, very talented
guy.
I said, all right, it's time to get in shape
Sometimes you need that wake up.
The worst I ever heard was Bob Green who was a columnist from for the Tribune and he looked like well like Chris Penn's cousin but
That's all right.
You're right.
You use that as motivation to get in shape.
So that's our question of the night, folks.
Have fun with it.
What celebrity do people tell you you look like?
What celebrity do you want to look like?
Let us know.
We will read your text on the radio.
When we come back, I'm going to tell you something about Peaky Blinders.
And we'll talk some Cubs and Brewers.
It's Pete Chihuahua and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Welcome back.
I'm Pete Schwabber.
This is Nightlight.
I'm going to talk about golf and a great kids program regarding golf at 635 with my first guest, John Sabo.
That's coming up.
He is part of a group, the executive director.
I believe of this area's chapter called First Tea.
John will be here in studio.
That will be fun.
Our question of the night is, what celebrity do people tell you you look like?
What celebrity do you want to look like?
And you know, this is your blank canvas folks.
So make yourself pretty if you want or outrageous or whatever you think.
Let us know what you think about that.
Elon Musk is trying to cancel Netflix apparently.
He has 227 million Twitter X followers.
I actually saw that post today.
I redownloaded Twitter today.
Oh really?
Yeah.
Because my friend told me he messaged me on there and he's like, super funny, you gotta download it again.
Wasn't that good?
No, I cannot.
Now you're back on Twitter.
No, I'm just here.
I don't know.
I just turned it off.
Don't watch it.
He even has it.
He said they're like trying to indoctrinate kids through their programming.
I mean, there's got to be a billion shows on Netflix.
Yeah.
If there's a thousand of them that have a gay theme or
honestly.
You could say they're about any streaming platform right now.
Do they not have the right to make those shows?
Could
those
people not be representing anything?
It's ridiculous.
And he's a trans daughter and most of his kids, by whatever, don't even
know him.
I think after you name your kid X, Y, Z, 4, 5, 2, I think you lose all rights.
He's right up there with Nick Cannon.
They probably get together and have tea and talk about kid names.
Nick Cannon has made better names than Elon Musk, I'll say that.
They're definitely.
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah, Elon's kid's names are out there.
Are you a Peaky Blinders fan?
I am not.
I actually have
never seen it.
I have to be.
I like the first season and I just never went back to it.
But I think I am going to start watching it again.
I kind of need a new show.
And I think I might check that out.
And there's a movie coming out and then two more seasons of a prequel or sequel.
And there's like five seasons of it I haven't watched.
And it's considered, it's in the conversation as one of the best shows.
So I didn't feel that way about it when I watched it.
I liked it, but.
I don't know.
All right.
Go ahead.
I was gonna say remember when we did that question where as mediocre shows or sitcoms, you know, yeah, one of them that came up was two broke girls.
I was like,
oh,
yeah.
Never seen it.
So it's on the Roku.
So I was like, oh, I'll just watch an episode.
I understand completely.
You have to really bad is so bad.
The acting in it is terrible.
Like they try to make a joke.
And then it stops for a second.
Like
almost like they're looking at the camera like
oh no it's so bad it looked bad and then there was that other show that came out and then don't trust the bee in apartment 23 or something like that then there was another WB show called Zoe Duncan Jack and Jane or something there were all those like there's a whole bunch of like kind of mediocre sitcoms in the 90s and most of them didn't last long and a lot of them they needed content like on
Networks like the WB or UPN at the time, they needed content.
But they put out some very mediocre shows.
All right, Con, let's... When I left here last night, I don't know if the Cubs were about to win or had just won, but I know the Cubs pitcher beamed two guys.
Yeah.
Craig, Council left.
After you've been one guy in the ninth, you get him out.
I don't think the guy's not up for it.
Get him out of there.
Council kept him in.
I think it was the same guy being two guys.
Yeah.
And then he ranked him finally in the Cubs held on Wib.
You said you were nervous.
Are you really?
I mean, I know the Cubs won the season series, but it was like by a game.
And I feel like the Brewers came on strong.
And I'm saying this as a Cub fan, the Brewers came on strong.
I mean, they were the best team in baseball the last half of the
season.
Well, yeah.
Yeah, you know, it's just a rivalry.
So, you know, they're both going to be coming in just wanting to beat the other team super, super bad.
It is kind of sweet that we have no...
Well, you'll watch football anyway, but like the Bears or the Packers aren't playing
but
instead we get the Cubs and the Brewers And it's gonna be a gorgeous weekend like this is bring on the buy this weekend as far as I'm concerned because you got playoff baseball And you got a beautiful weekend But folks if you want to chime in and tell us who you think is gonna win the series My guess is it will lean Brewers, but give us a prediction.
You could do that as well 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2
Phone lines are open.
You can also text us on the app or drop us a stream comment.
Let us know who you think is going to win this Highway 94 series.
Is that what you're calling it?
Yeah.
The I-94 series.
You know, I said whoever wins is whatever state wins.
The state that lost can't go
to the other
states.
Can't go to the I-94.
Can't use I-94.
You have to take 41 the whole way.
That's what we're battling for.
Let's get to some of your texts.
Our question, once again, is what celebrity do people tell you you look like?
Or what celebrity do you want to look like?
Edward from the 414 says Eddie Mercury.
I don't think so.
Huge fan, though.
He's got a really unique look.
You know what's funny?
Rami... What's his name?
Rami Manik Manuel.
You know the hometown.
Malik.
Played Freddie Mercury.
In the movie about Queen or about Freddie Mercury.
I don't remember what it's called, but and he put in like fake teeth I don't even think he needed him like Rami Malik still he has a look that's like that anyway.
I thought that was too much But he looks like Freddie Mercury.
That's a good look at work.
You do a lot worse than Freddie Mercury Well done John from Columbia County says Kevin Maisie.
Who's that con?
That I'm gonna go to
the Google for that one, buddy
Stand by John.
We'll get confirmation.
I want to know what John looks like.
So if we can find Kevin Maisie, he's an athlete, isn't he?
I honestly can't find.
Is he a trumpet player?
I
put Matsy.
He looks like
a maestro.
Yeah, maestro.
That's very
distinguished.
Yeah, I'll take that.
Very high class John from Columbia County.
Thank you, buddy.
Tyler from Wisconsin Rapids.
He's in the 608.
He says the unknown comic from the GONG show.
That was the guy that wore the bag over his head.
Tyler says he's the spitting image.
All right.
Let us know.
Keep those texts coming, folks.
You can let us know who you think is going to win the Cubs Brewer Series.
Have fun with it.
We're going to be talking a little golf next.
It's our last night for the Civic Media.
Go for the green and gold text to win contest, our multi-state contest.
I'll give you the keyword after the news.
at the top of the hour and some more details, too, as we get closer to that.
We are coming right back after the news and talking some golf.
It's Pete Schwabba in Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio Network.
All right, welcome back.
I'm Pete Chihuahua.
This is Nightlight, a Friday night version, folks.
It's the most fun night of the week.
And it's great to have you here, although it is a long way on Monday.
We'll have to count the days so we can get back in the air and talk about the things we'd love to talk about.
But in the meantime,
We still got a ways to go here tonight, and we've got two fun guests.
It's a Bar Band Friday night.
Terry Barr will be here at 730 with some great music tonight.
She is out done herself, and I know I say that every week, but I really mean it this week.
She's never let us down.
She's outstanding and fun to talk to.
And right now, I'm very excited to welcome my next guest.
This is the first time he's been on Night Light, and he is the executive director.
of the Northeast Wisconsin chapter of first tee, Mr. John Sabo.
Hey, buddy.
Hello, how's
it going?
Nice to meet
you.
Yeah, thanks for having me.
I saw you golfing out there on
Washington Street tonight, and it's a tough course.
It's a tough course.
The nice thing is if you can hit it straight, the ball goes for a mile.
So it just keeps bouncing.
I don't know if you know this.
Conrad is an avid golfer.
Yeah, that's true.
He went out yesterday.
I did.
It was freezing yesterday.
It
was
like
65 out.
Actually,
it was beautiful.
It was beautiful yesterday.
Well, compared to today, it was a little chilly.
But Conrad loves to golf.
You're a big fan of golf.
Let's get to know you a little bit first, John, here, before we jump into first tee.
So first of all, do people tell you you look like a celebrity?
I've gotten, I look like Elf, for Will Ferrell from the movie, before the long beard.
And the most recent one is I get Yukon Cornelius a lot.
Who is that?
You from the from the old animation.
Oh, Christmas movies.
Yeah, the island of misfit toys.
That's a great dress up is that for Christmas parties before with and got my buddies to dress up as misfit toys.
So it's a lot of fun.
It's pretty fun.
That's outstanding.
Well, our mutual friend, Brad introduced us.
And I know he's a golf fan.
So I assume you are too, obviously.
And you sound like you found a really.
great gig for someone who loves golf at First Tea.
Tell us first of all a little bit about First Tea.
What does First Tea do and
what is it?
So First Tea what we do is we are part of a national or international organization actually.
So there are three chapters in the state of Wisconsin.
We have one primarily here in the Green Bay area, one in the Milwaukee area and then one in the Madison area.
So what we do is we provide youth development through the game of golf.
So we have a life skills curriculum that basically teaches kids how to handle life's challenges all while teaching them a game they can play their entire life.
So it's a pretty cool gig, like you said.
Yeah, because you get to be on a golf course most days and you get to work with kids.
So it's all about.
Basically teaching, we call them our five key commitments, stuff like good judgment, collaborating with others.
Basically it's all about how do we create good human beings all while teaching them something really cool where they don't necessarily understand it because they think they're just learning golf, but really they're learning things that they can take them through their entire life.
Yeah, that's that's really cool.
And I like what you said about you could play it for the rest of your life.
I remember some of the sports we played as kids, it's like you just stop when you're 18 or even sooner and golf tennis, some of these sports you can play.
and keep doing them and be active.
That's what I love about golf.
Like I wish I had played golf more when I was younger.
It's a great game.
So what does first tee?
Is it a non-for-profit or how
does that work?
Yeah, we're a non-for-profit.
So what we do is we run
classes throughout the year.
So we were fortunate that a couple of years ago, we opened a indoor facility out at Mid Valley Golf Course, our Trinks Learning Center.
So that allows us to offer the programming year round.
So what we do is our busiest time of the year is obviously during the summer.
So right now we're just wrapping up classes.
Yeah.
But we offer essentially how we structure our programming is we do month long classes.
It's typically twice a week.
for the month of let's say June or July.
And then it's all priced affordably so that anyone can do it.
So we never turn anyone down.
We have scholarships available for those that don't can't afford it.
We have equipment available for all kids that need equipment.
And then as we kind of recycle through our equipment, we actually
provide that equipment to kids at like a buck of club.
So you can get a full set of clubs for like 10 bucks.
Wow.
And then we're really fortunate that we have donors that come in.
I've got gallons of golf balls.
So the kids can come in, get golf balls, never have to worry about paying for golf balls, stuff like that.
And then we also, they get involved through school programs.
So we have another schools that reach out to us.
For instance, Bayview Middle School, often Howard Tuomical just got done doing a month long golf program with their PE classes.
So we provide training for their PE teachers and then the equipment and they can just kind of run with it.
And then all those kids get exposed to the great game, which is pretty cool.
So how does, how
does it teach?
What, what is it about golf?
the kids take away that they can use their whole life.
To me, probably playing golf like I'm terrible under pressure.
If there's a big putt, I know I'm going to miss it.
I like myself up.
What is it, though, is it just keeping your cool when you hit a bad shot?
Is it being out in the sun?
I mean, what what values do you teach the kids
through?
There's so many different things with the game of golf that you can relate to real life.
OK, so if you think about a round of golf, you're going to have great shots.
You're going to have bad shots.
You're going to go through the gamut of emotions.
So the first thing it kind of teaches kids is how do we handle those emotions?
How do we handle the high highs and the low lows?
And how do we handle it when it can all happen within 15 minutes of each other?
So it's teaching the kids that...
Okay, there was those great moments.
How do we have them respectfully?
Because we have our competitors with us.
And how do we handle those moments when we're not playing well?
And we have to focus and reset ourselves so that we can not let it affect the rest of our round.
So similar to in life, if we have a bad day, how do we reset, recognize it, and then figure out, okay, how do I change my mindset?
How do I go that happened?
Now, what do I do to move forward so that I can still have a great day?
derail your
whole game,
which is very similar to life, you know, you make one small mistake, you lose your temper and it's snowballs, you know, that's how golf can be.
Exactly.
And
with golf, it's a lot of etiquette as well.
So there's no referees.
There's it's all self policing.
You call your own penalties, basically.
So it's it's that etiquette, it's that honesty that you are taking with you then when, oh, did I really do that?
Or did I, you know,
What we talk a lot about is respect.
So that's part of our core curriculum and respecting the golf course, leaving it in a better condition than it was before.
But then how do you take that into your classroom?
How do you respect your siblings?
What do you, how does that work with your parents?
And it's pretty cool because at times
Well, we typically talk about it during class.
We integrate it and then kids will come back and say, oh, Coach John, Coach John, like I, you know, my parents told me to do this and I did it right away.
Is that a good good example of respect?
And it's like, yes, you're respecting your parents by not having them have to ask you 30 times to do something.
Right.
So it's it's those things that are, like I said, we seamlessly integrate them into the into the instruction.
So the kids are not fully, I would say
It's not thrown in their face.
Like, oh, you have to learn this.
It's really, oh, let's go learn golf.
And in the process, you're learning really cool things that are just awesome to do.
That's so great.
My guess is John Sabo.
He is the executive director of First Tea, the Northeast Wisconsin chapter.
They do great things for kids, teaching them the game of golf and the game of life.
Have you ever thrown a club?
Ooh, yes, I
have.
In front of the kids.
Not in front of the kids.
So yeah, but again, great example.
OK, I've got to learn to control my emotions, learn how to do it.
And we do it as an example of what not to do on a golf course.
It's a good teaching experience for the kids.
That's
excellent.
How old were
you when you started playing golf?
I've started playing golf probably around three years old.
I think was the first time that I started playing.
So it's been a been a few years.
Yeah.
Pretty much been part of my life the the entire time I've loved playing.
What's your like a handicap?
What do you.
So right now I'm at about a four point five.
So good enough to stay in trouble and be competitive but also on any given day could could have a really high number which just makes the game even more humbling.
You know, I don't know when it happened for me, but I played as a kid and most of the time in northern Wisconsin like golf courses that were not that great, you know, they were kind of sandy and hard ground and then I played at Chicago Public Courses where they have the mats and you put the tea in and that's so I never have played but a few years ago I hadn't golfed in years a friend of mine and Brad McCarville our mutual friend was there He and our other friend Tom were in one cart and I was in another cart with another good was four of us
And the guy I was with, I'm not going to name him, but was hammered.
And he lined up a shot and hit the shot without like kind of clocking where the other guys were.
John, I'm not kidding.
The ball went between the bars of the cart and their faces.
They almost died.
Then we had a talking to him, but Brad might not be here.
So I'm glad he made it through that.
Yeah, I mean, I'm glad to Brad's one of our top coaches.
We can't lose him.
Is he one of the coaches?
Yeah, he's one of our coaches.
He he actually volunteers every Tuesday night throughout the summer.
And then he also does it all the way through the winter as well.
So he's our Tuesday night coach and he is.
Wonderful with the kids and we are it's a blessing to have him.
So it was great when he reached out and said, Hey, John, I want to get involved.
I'm like, Oh, you are.
Did you know him already?
I did.
He went to high school with my mom.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
He's a pretty old
guy.
Yeah.
But he, uh, no, I could see that's good to know because Brad used to have the right, he used to call him the Bob Knight of kids golf coaching.
So I'm glad he worked his stuff out.
And
he did.
Yeah.
We keep them under wraps.
So
it's a
4.5 handicap.
Good.
What does that mean?
Yeah, that's
great.
4.5 under the par.
That's above par, right?
It's above par.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's
still
good.
Mid 70s.
I don't listen and I'm saying this like because I'm curious because like my wife and I are at the age where you know both of our kids are mostly out of the house.
It's like she's like what are we going to do?
I don't know.
Golf.
So she wants to take up golf now and I'm not that good.
I mean she's probably better than me.
But so one
of
the two late to learn.
Oh it's never too late.
OK.
One of the best systems that I ever heard was playing with with a guy and it was awesome.
It was me my dad him.
And he's just like, we asked him like, oh, what'd you get?
What'd you get?
He's like, um, I don't really go by score.
I give myself more of a letter grade.
So I'd say about a C minus on that one.
And it's just perfect.
It's like, that's just
awesome.
It's like, oh, it's so funny because when I would golf like my grandma's cottage up in three lakes, my dad has a big family and they're kind of big age ranges.
And I had a couple uncles that used to golf barefoot.
They used to have a beer in their hand.
and it was I mean you're talking laid back like the 1970s does anybody still golf like that like it seems like the sport has evolved into this sort of um elite elitist and I know a lot of golfers don't want to hear that because I don't think all of them are like that but you don't see a lot of people casually you don't see a lot of high tops and tank tops out on the golf courses anymore
I think courses have reeled it in a little bit, but you definitely still see it.
If you go to if you go to some of the courses, you'll still see the the barefoot, the tank tops, the burning the heater and drinking the beers.
And so it's it's still out there.
But I would say people golf has just gotten more fun.
I think it's it's in the aspect.
Colvin was great for golf and people just they enjoy it more.
So they're trying.
Yeah, you get to be outside.
Yeah.
So how did you get involved with first tea?
Like, what were you doing before you did this?
I would imagine this is a full time job, right?
Yes, this is a full time job for me.
So what I was doing, so I've been involved with our particular chapter, probably on and off for about five, well, more than five years, about 10 years now.
So I started out one of the the previous
chair for the board reached out to me and asked if I wanted to get involved in volunteer coaching.
So at the time I was working for St.
over college.
Okay.
So he knew I loved golf.
And so I started volunteering.
And then I eventually worked my way onto the board.
And then I ended up taking a new job up into our county.
So I was kind of a little ways away.
And I'm like, I need to step down from the board.
I had my first son and it was awesome.
It's a blessing.
And then
you know, I decided to step away for a little bit just to, uh, cause we were kind of far away from family and then got the call and I'm like, yeah, I'm like, this would be awesome.
No, you're in your dream gig.
So
now I'm in my dream gig.
All right.
Let's pick up there.
We're going to do a very short break.
We're coming right back with, uh, John Sabo from first team northeast Wisconsin.
This is Pete Schwabba and nightlight on the civic media radio network.
My sweet love.
My
love.
My sweet love.
have fun reading these texts.
We're getting more action on the Cubs Brewers than we are on the question of the night.
But we'll have fun with all
of that.
What is the score for the Cubs Brewers game right now?
Tomorrow they start.
Oh, tomorrow.
So
yeah, we just ask people for like a prediction, you know, assuming like I'm a Cubs fan.
But I'm sorry.
I know a
lot of people are going to be like.
leaning brewers, which is fine.
You know, Khan and I talk about this semi-regularly.
But Tom from New Berlin says, Peter, learning golf, you're going to get frustrated.
OK, thank you, Tom.
Thanks for the faith.
That is probably the most accurate statement of the night.
Listen, I play Wii golf, and I find that frustrating.
But I actually love Wii golf.
Have you ever played?
Yeah, it's a ton of fun.
It's outstanding.
I'm not very good at it, but it's fun.
That's the only I think I'm good at we golf and it would probably end there.
And you talk about COVID like to be out, you know, what a great game to find during COVID because where I live in Marinette, a friend of ours came back, he was living in Oakland at the time and he said, we got to play this game.
It's called soccer golf.
And we all have our own ball.
So it was like COVID friendly, you know, we kick it to a tree.
And John
I am not lying to.
I cannot believe how frustrated that came.
Like you'll miss like a soccer ball on a tree this big and you'll miss it and it'll drive you bananas just like real golf.
Oh yeah.
That's like if you ever get a chance to play a big cup tournament that the cup is about five times or six times the size of an actual of a standard car.
Oh really.
And it is the most frustrating thing in the world because you can't comprehend how hard it is to still miss a pot.
And.
Like, how do you lip out a cup that's 12 inches around?
Like, it's just, it's frustrating.
That is
frustrating.
All right, you guys have some upcoming events.
I know that you talked about some fundraisers.
You want to tell us about those?
Yeah, we got a couple of cool fundraisers that are coming up.
One right now, we're doing a Pebble Beach raffle.
So what that entitles is it's $100 a ticket.
We sell a max of 400 tickets.
And the winner receives four rounds of golf at Pebble Beach, four rounds of golf at Spyglass.
And then two three night states at the Spanish Inn.
So it's pretty cool.
Basically all you got to do is get yourself out there.
Pay Uncle Sam because he loves it to get his cut and then just enjoy yourself.
So last year we only sold 170 tickets.
So your odds were pretty good.
OK.
And the winners, it was actually a group of four guys that went in and all bought kind of tickets together.
So that group is heading out there in November, I believe that is the date they took.
So it's pretty cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's fortunately for me, it's one of my board members, which was awesome.
And I'm like, you're going to be doing some live streaming and promotion of this event for us.
So enjoy.
Conrad, can you scrape together 100 bucks?
That sounds like something right up your alley.
Yeah.
I would say so.
Perfect.
100
bucks.
And then the other event we have, our biggest fundraiser of the year is our Supinsud's event that happens January 30th.
It's at the Oneida Casino Hotel and we get the local beer distributors together.
So last year we had about 85 different
craft beers, and then about 18 restaurants came and supplied different samples, everything from soups, soup and suds, to sliders, to desserts, all sorts of different things.
It's about 50 bucks a ticket.
Oh, that's not bad.
Yeah.
And it's right at the casino, so you can come gamble.
We've got a huge silent auction, 50-50 your Apple, and it turns out to be an awesome night.
And we'll have...
It's we're working out the details yet, but we'll have stay in play packages stuff like that.
So you can stay right there at the casino.
Enjoy yourself at the event.
Stay there.
Try to win some money.
Hopefully you win some money and you come back and spend it spend it with us.
So two great fundraisers that we're we're definitely we're selling tickets.
You can find that information on our website at first T any W dot org.
Outstanding.
That's the voice of John Sabo.
He is the Executive Director of the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of First Tea.
They've reached over 10 million, or they've had over 10 million participants.
You have actively engaged 20,000 volunteers.
and I love that you you try to make golf affordable for people who don't have the means because it's not a cheap sport like all sports are getting expensive because you got travel teams and all that stuff but yes golf greens fees not cheap so that's nice that you guys make an effort to include everybody too
yeah no absolutely and like I said we have scholarships available for anyone that we never want to turn anyone away yeah so that's the biggest thing and one great thing about
golf that is I think different from team sports or other other sports is the ability to as we talk about I'm a pretty good golfer you're so so but we can have a ton of fun together playing you all have the right attitude whereas if I'm a really good basketball player and you're a really terrible basketball player it's probably not going to be that enjoyable so it brings people together of
all the abilities that they can have fun, enjoy it.
So it's pretty cool.
There's only so many times you can get dunked on before
you go.
You
know what?
This isn't very fun.
All right.
Two quick questions for you before we let you go, John.
It's been really fun.
Thank you for making the drive up
from
Appleton.
It was great to meet you.
Favorite golfer?
Oh, good question.
I would say Rory McRoy.
I am a huge Rory fan.
I just love what he's done for the game of golf and I think he's a ton of fun to watch.
Um, and Scotty, I mean, the top two players in the world.
So it's kind of a no brainer answer, but they're just both, they're both a ton of fun.
And I think they, they are bringing the right attitude and the right demeanor to the game.
Conrad, who is Scotty?
Scottie Shuffler, Scottie Shuffler.
Oh yeah, Scottie Shuffler.
Yeah, absolutely.
The Shuffler Shuffle.
I worked on a comedy show, comedy sports show, years ago, and we had John Dalion.
That was a trip.
He
was a guest star, and he had a little trouble with his lines, but it was fun.
And last thing, we've got about, I would say, a minute, John.
Favorite golf movie?
I'd have to say there's two.
Obviously the original happy Gilmore is just you got to go there.
I love what they try to do with the second one.
It's entertaining, but you just can't beat the original and probably the legend of Baker Vance.
It's one of those the golf movie.
It's just a different style.
It's more of the Will Smith, right?
Will Smith, Matt Damon and Charlie.
I can't I can't pronounce her last name, but just kind of a different twist on golf and they asked what the more the mental side of it and how golf can really bring you back.
There are so many good
ones.
Come back before you do that big fundraiser after
the first of the year.
I'd love to.
We'll talk again.
This has been fun, John.
Thank you very much.
John Sabo, ladies and gentlemen, check out First Tea.
They do great stuff.
We're coming right back after intermission for Act 2, and I'm going to give you the keyword to our Go For The Greening Gold Text to Win contest.
This is Pete Schwabba in Night Light, a Friday night night light on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.
This is Night Light with Peach Wabba.
Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.
And now, a guy who likes pina coladas but hates getting caught in the rain, Peach Wabba.
Welcome back.
Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, our...
Friday night version of our favorite entertainment show.
I think I can say that even though I'm the host Conrad Krieger work in the board tonight and we are barreling through this Friday night show as we kick off act too great to have you with me We had a great first hour.
That was fun.
John Sabo.
What a nice guy, huh?
Yeah, that was it's a lot of fun.
Totally changed my opinion of golfers.
I gotta be
honest.
Oh, really?
Oh, you were my only reference.
So
that's where you got a bad rep
You guys are both OK.
That was fun.
So is a 4.5 handicap?
That's a good thing.
That's great.
OK.
So he's a good golfer.
I mean, I've golfed for like three years fully now.
OK.
I'm saying we're on like a 26.
So in 18 holes, you'll finish 26 over par?
Yeah.
So yeah,
around there.
OK.
It
definitely depends on the day.
Yeah.
Yeah, so 4.5.
That's pretty good.
That's really
good.
Can you go pro?
I
can say
the pros are, you know, they're zero or better than that, you know.
I could trim four strokes.
It's pretty difficult to just trim four strokes when you're four.
With that
attitude, yeah.
So we got a lot of fun still on the show folks.
Terry Barr will be here for Barman Friday night.
That's coming up at 7 35 Our question of the night is what celebrity do people tell you you look like or what celebrity?
Do you wish you looked like you can have fun with this?
You can say whoever you want Conrad wants to look like did you want to look like the rock?
pre weight loss or
the rock before the smashing machine
the buff rock
just the absolute beast the jacked rock, okay
because you know he comes into a movie role and he's just he's just a guy in it you know
yeah
he's he's the buff in it
you mean
before
yeah before the smashing
machine that'd be cool to just be an actor in a movie and just being like I'm bigger than everyone else here
absolutely nobody would get out of line exactly he's just you know I mean I never thought he's that great an actor but he got a lot of praise from critics for this smashing machine so I'm gonna have to check this out
And I said that I looked like people used to tell me I look like Sean Penn when I'm in shape.
But I think I look like Chris Penn when I'm not in shape.
And Conrad found the fattest picture ever of Chris Penn and put it on the stream.
So that was fun.
And then so but we're going to get some of your texts in just a few minutes.
We've got.
Terry Barr coming up at 735.
It is our last night, ladies and gentlemen, of this contest we've had so much fun with.
The civic media, go for the green and gold text to win contest, comes to an end tonight.
It is our multi-state text to win contest.
And the daily prize, as you probably already know, I imagine most of you have played.
Hopefully you can get one more shot in here at our daily prize, which is $200 cash and gold jewelry.
And that will also make you eligible for our grand prize, which is two club level indoor seats to Green Bay versus Minnesota.
The green and gold versus the...
Purple people eaters.
Does anybody still call them that?
Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, I do now.
Bring it back.
They're facing the brown people eaters this week.
Oh, are they really?
Okay.
Working their way through the NFC North.
It's a Green Bay home game November 23rd at 12 noon.
You also get a gas card, which will help you get to the game.
It's a $1550 value, folks, not too shabby.
And if you click on the link we send you to confirm after you send in the keyword, click on that link.
And if you're so inclined, sign up for Civic Media Today, the Civic Media Newsletter, some of our socials, and you will enhance your chance to win.
uh this contest so have fun with it it's our last night i'm sure we'll have another contest right around the corner but for now uh be special folks and and and have fun the last night and totally appropriate keyword here it is final f i n a l final f i n a l like last night of the contest so text that in and uh let's go to town good luck everybody
So I'm gonna get some, now I'm gonna start reading texts and all these keywords are gonna start coming in.
So you're gonna have to help me here, Conn.
Yeah?
So, all right.
What is this, Brandon Gleason?
Oh, this is funny.
Oh, we got some great responses on the question of the night.
Tyler said, unknown comment.
Conrad's mom checks in from the 920 and says, when I was a teenager, people told me I looked like Christy McNichol.
That's a good one.
You probably don't even know who that is.
No, she's was.
Just a kind of a teen actress, sort of a Molly Ringwald of the 70s.
She said, I would like to look like Jacqueline Smith in her prime.
Paula, I'd like to look like Jacqueline Smith in her prime.
I'm kidding.
But that's a great one.
An original Charlie's Angel for Conrad's mom.
Love the text.
Thank you, Paula.
Everett from Sun Prairie says, props to everyone who just duck ducked.
Brandon Gleason with two E's.
Spelled it wrong.
Oops.
I don't know whatever it was going for there.
He texted us again.
He says I'm about the same age as Seth Rogen and was frequently compared to his character Ken from Freaks and Geeks.
Awesome character, by the way.
That's a great one in both bearing and style.
In my 20s and 30s, I often was compared to Brandon Gleason's character in Braveheart.
Now I think his text got mixed up.
Now that other one makes sense.
I seriously wish Freaks and Geeks got a season two or season three did.
That was a fun show.
It was so fun.
It was very good.
I like that show better than I like most of Judd Apatow's movies.
Like I just thought that was a really good show.
It
kept me engaged when I watched it
and
I've rewatched it like three times just because I'm like,
oh really?
I wish that every time I'm like, well, I like Country B season.
Was it one season?
Just one season.
That's crazy.
Melissa from Willy Street in the 608 that's in Madison for those of you scoring at home says, hi Pete, John and I are both fibs in a previous life.
So go cubbies.
Conrad, I'm going to put you in charge of something.
I think you're going to dig this.
A
better word than fib.
It's nothing.
We can do better.
And this is half fib here talking.
So I'm, you know.
I
didn't know what that stood for until like a year ago.
Seriously?
Yeah, we could do better.
Thank you, Melissa.
John from Madison.
Melissa's other half.
I won't say better half says underdog cubbies, my friends.
They will steal game one of the series.
Not so sure after that.
So John is John's predicting a game one win.
But not saying they'll win the series.
OK,
I
don't know.
And we'll see.
Conrad's dad says the Brewer the Brewers will win the first three games and sweep the Cubs with I like that sunglasses, emoji, the confidence.
I like Mr. Krieger.
He seems pretty confident.
Let's go to some more texts here.
Tom from New Berlin says, I love you.
I love you're a Cub fan, my friend.
Well, thank you, Tom.
I don't know if that means Tom is a Cub fan.
Oh, then he says in his next test, that's the glue that makes us friends.
OK, Tom.
Well, I am a Cub fan and, you know, you can't we grow up somewhere.
That's your team.
I mean, I know there are some transplants and I know some people from Chicago.
who have become Packer fans.
So it's like we're strangers in a strange land.
I don't know.
Do you have Cub fan friends, Conrad?
Uh, I, yeah, I have bear friends too.
And you know,
I
talk to them sometimes.
It's a fun
ride.
I mean, I love it.
I
mean, most of my friends are fully, you know,
Packer,
Packer brewers.
In
only a couple
bucks
fans.
I grew up to with my mom again my mom and dad met at Marquette My dad was from Chicago.
My mom was from Wisconsin by way of Ohio So my all the Murphy's and I have an uncle named Pat Murphy.
They're all Brewer's fans But they kind of like the Cubs too.
I'd probably just because of the history, but they're definite Packer fans.
So I've dealt with I Don't feel at home anywhere.
That's what I'm saying
You should just you know switch your teams move to like Nevada or something.
Oh, yeah
Maybe a little
extreme.
Nick from Marshall in the 608 says, when I get my hair bleached, people say I look like Eminem.
Oh, that's kind of cool.
Marshall Mathers, right?
Is this real name?
That's a fantastic one.
Thank you.
Thank you, Nick.
And then we go to Michael and Madison says, yeah, hey guys, as a young man, I was told I look like Brett Favre.
Obviously, the shine on that has depreciated.
If I could emulate one celebrity and look style and persona, it's got to be Jeff Bridges.
Not only is he handsome, but he seems like a nice guy.
I agree.
I'm halfway there too.
Just working on the handsome part.
Maybe a beard to cover my face will help.
Come on, Michael.
Anyway, growing up, I would listen to the Cubbies on 720 WGN with my pops go Cubs.
Conrad, I think we're about even here.
Am I in?
Well, he's just cheering.
No, you're not.
He didn't give a prediction, though.
He just said go Cubs.
He's not really predicting.
Like your dad was saying with authority, this is already over.
It's a sweep.
The keyword, ladies and gentlemen, just to reiterate is final, F-I-N-A-L, final.
I've seen a couple words here that aren't.
matching up so all right there we go and now we've got some social media texts and then we've got a really funny clip of Jason Alexander you have a surprise too I do how long have you been sitting on that a while seriously
yeah
I mean you said something last night but we didn't get to it but if I'd known
well it's from the question one what the actors or athletes and actors
Oh, wow.
One doesn't stop, you know, or whatever.
Going back a couple of weeks.
All right.
Social media responses today.
We always post our question on Facebook, folks.
You could have some fun there, too, and answer it on the socials, if that's better for you.
JB Thompson, the guy behind the guy, con.
Behind the
guy behind I've been told I look like the guy behind the guy behind the guy There we go snarky answer from our pal JB Eric Ratsack frontman stretch as he's known For how I met your mom how I met your mother see what you've done to me ask your mother the band great great band Eric says to a Tolled stone cold wish Paul Rudd dude never ages.
That's a good one
I could see Stone Cold.
Eric's an intimidating guy.
You always say you think you could take him, but I don't, uh... I
just, you know, if it's Stone Cold, you know, I just got him with a stunner.
Does he know you bench 250?
You just got to go low.
It's actually 275.
Is
it 275?
Oh, I don't
know.
You got to get it right.
Worked hard for those extra 25 pounds.
Chicken or the Egg Photography.
Our pal, uh, Chris, says, uh...
the amount of times I've been compared to Jack Black.
I could see that when he was in here.
Jack Black's really cool.
He looks like kind of in shape Jack Black, I would
say.
Yeah, definitely
that.
So that you might that might kind of insult him if somebody said you look like Jack Black because I think he's a better looking guy personally.
My pal Sean on social media says some some ass told me Kyle Schwerber.
If I could look like one Steve McQueen coolest guy ever.
That's a pretty good one Sean.
I would say Paul Newman if you're going classic Hollywood, I probably want to look like Paul Newman But you can't go wrong with Steve McQueen.
He was pretty cool I remember and I said I asked this to Sean once because he is the spitting image of Kyle Schwabber and In Sean was a Marine and I think he said I got look at where I was stationed over the years and where Kyle Schwabber was born They look that much alike.
It's it's frightening, but Sean is a terrible baseball player
Patrick Mines on social media says I've had Topol.
Oh, he's going to throw all these.
I know Patrick.
He's going to throw all these like.
What's the one of those movies with the trees?
The movie with the tree,
you know, and the goblins and what's the the famous?
Narnia.
No, no, you're close.
It's Lord of the Rings.
Lord of the Rings.
The movie, The Trees.
He says I've had Topol, Zero Mustel.
That's a pretty cool one, Patrick.
Peter Yustanov and wrestler Mick Foley.
Wow, that is an array of celebrities.
I don't know if there's any I particularly want to look like.
It's not a bad group, Patrick.
Talented bunch.
Amanda Nimmer, our pal social media guru, says I used to be told I look like Juno.
Elliott Page's character in Juneau.
That's a good one, Amanda.
All right, we're coming right back, folks.
We are going to play a really funny clip, and Conrad's going to surprise me with something.
I'm as much in the dark as you are.
We're coming right back.
It's Nightlight with Peach Waba on the Civic Media radio
network.
What celebrity do people tell you you look like, or what celebrity do you wish you look like?
We're getting some, let's do this first, O'Connor.
Well, actually, let me see what these, all right, we get these texts.
John Minter says, these are all messed up now because the keyword.
John in the 608 says, I worked in Chicago for 13 years.
I've seen so many Cubs games.
I don't know which team to go for now.
But born and raised in Wisconsin, I think I'm going for the Brewers.
He is conflicted that John Mentor, I'll tell you.
John says, P.S., I was told I look like William Hurd.
Okay, that's a good one.
Fine actor.
920 says, this is actually J.P.
and Madison says, when I was in high school, the film, when I was in high school, the film Superbad came out, and at the time, I was a spinning image of Micka Love.
That's so awesome.
Not a bad guy.
That
whole scene where he shows him his license in super bad is so funny.
Great text, everybody.
Keep them coming.
All right, Conn, we got to do our predictions now.
And I will admit, I'm just going to be a Homer and probably say my cubs, even though I haven't.
I've probably watched a total of like five games over the course of the summer, knitting here, a couple of innings there, read about them a little bit.
So I don't know what I'm talking about.
But I'll say it's five game series.
I'm going to say Cubs in four because I think if they're going to win it, it's going to be at home.
Does it go 2-2-1?
Yeah.
I don't think they'll win a game seven in Milwaukee.
So if the Cubs are going to win almost, I'll say Cubs in four.
It would actually be Cubs in three.
Why
does the ski five game series?
No, but I'm saying the brewers will win one game So the cubs will be the birds three games to one.
Yeah, they only need to win three.
Oh, okay.
I know Jimmy in game four
incorrect It'll take them four games to win the series by my uneducated pick Messed you up totally though.
You're like wait a minute.
What's going on
here?
I'm going to say I'm going to say the Cubs win two games, but the Brewers win three.
So it'll go five.
Yeah.
Brewers won a game five in Milwaukee.
That place will be in.
Can you imagine if the Brewers beat the Cubs at Pfizer Forum?
American Family Field.
Oh, wow.
That's nuts.
That would be kind of cool to see a baseball game at Pfizer Forum.
I think it could happen.
I think we could put that together.
So there you go.
Conrad says Brewers in five.
I say Cubs in four.
We'll just see what happens.
It's going to be a fun series.
And like I said, of all the weekends to have, I'm glad because we got Bears on this side of the glass, Packers on that side.
Neither team is playing this weekend.
It's going to be gorgeous and just play off baseball.
So it's a perfect week for a buy, even though I thought it was
a little
early initially.
All right.
Let's I know you this clip has been burning a hole in your pocket for a couple weeks.
Yeah, so tell us about what you got lined up here
Well, it's it's kind of a surprise.
All right, so we talked about Actors that are athletes that really shouldn't be actors, right?
I think the question was who was the worst one.
I can't remember we said who was the best
We
talked about many guys, but you know this guy's not mean he's not an athlete
By any
means all right, but he's he's in the world of sports
Okay, and he's made some terrible terrible terrible Ads for the certain company.
I think you'll know
well.
I know okay perfect
Patrick take for safe farm explain this bundling thing again.
All right coach read.
Let's say these fries are your car
And
this burger is
your home
Okay, it can be more affordable if you bundle them together
kind of like a combo milk.
I'm like a
combo
Explain it again with those nuggies.
Not a lot of people know about my side hustle.
Male hand model.
But now I just discovered these.
Relax, fit, hands-free, sketch or slip-ins.
Comfy shoes with a little extra room.
You don't need your hands to put on.
I just step in and go with no bending down and no touching.
And to be honest, I kind of love not using my hands.
Come on, Andy.
No one peels like you.
Sorry, bro.
I'm out the game.
Go hands-free with relax, fit, sketch or slip-ins.
Hey, Jake from State Farm.
I want that personal price plan.
So how's this for personal?
I'd run mustache on players' faces when they're asleep.
Coach Reed, you don't need to get that personal to get the State Farm personal price plan.
It helps you create an affordable price just for you.
Oh,
Coach.
It happened again.
Oh,
man.
I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
Bundlerusky.
Bundlerusky.
Bundlerusky.
I
think
I put you through enough torture
Why I never pictured Andy Reed is a creepy guy before but that nuggies line where his fingers are huge sausage fingers are crawling across the table and then In here, but here's what I'll say because I'm great at playing devil's advocate Reed is more believable because he's just being read.
That's how he is.
He's a kind of the goofy grandpa probably
Jake from State Farm, I still don't buy.
He looks like he's 19 and should be on a skateboard.
And he is the face of State Farm.
Like he's an insurance agent.
Yeah, you
know, he looks way too cool to be an insurance agent, way too young.
And he looks like he should be at Coachella or something.
I don't know.
Did you like that I snuck in that Skechers ad there?
Yeah.
How many of you have ever seen that ad?
I vaguely recall it.
He's a hand model in it.
Yeah.
It doesn't have to use his hands because it's a slip on sketcher.
He makes he makes Russell Wilson and that subway commercial look like a good actor.
Hey, you want to put this subway sandwich?
It is my signature sandwich.
It's called the danger which and it's dangerously good.
Be careful, though.
It's spicy.
In fairness to Russell Wilson, it is a really bad writing.
How'd you make that leap to danger to dangerous?
It was terrible.
Um, I hope that was, I hope my reaction was worth the wait.
Yeah.
You
know, I know you love Andy Reed and his commercials.
So my gosh,
it's just brutal.
And you got.
It's such an odd pairing because you got Patrick Mahomes with his voice, and then you got Andy Reed with his fingers trying to steal nuggies.
He says nuggies.
Show me
you again.
Oh,
that's so bad.
John from, oh, we better do this after the break.
All right, when we come back, folks, after the news, it is Bar Band Friday night.
Terry Barr will be here.
It's Pete Schwabba and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
Time to check out original music with bar band Friday on nightlight now your host peach wabba and special guest Terry bar Do we have Terry
I Think she just she'll be here.
We have a picture of Terry
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna introduce Terry though until we have her because I want her to hear me You know kind of giving her a big introduction because I think that
I think she likes that.
I think so too.
So I'll read the text.
John from Madison in the 608 says, when I was in my early 20s, I was accused of being Ryan Sandberg's twin.
Chicago Cubs, second baseman in the 80s.
John says, almost always by older women.
Sometimes much older women.
Sometimes they would touch me.
Weird kind of attention.
Fun but awkward.
OK.
John, that is kind of an overshare, buddy.
But as long as you've made peace with your past, that's totally fine.
I think my favorite one so far is the McLovin one.
That's a great one.
That's so
good.
That is outstanding.
I need something new to watch because I'm done with Dexter.
I think I'm gonna go Peaky Blinders.
Oh, I was gonna say you watch the two episodes of Chad Powers.
Yeah, maybe I am curious.
I think you'll be like, okay, this is gonna be stupid.
And then you watch it and be like, it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was.
Maybe not.
I hope not.
I mean, I...
I like to be entertained, but I will say this.
Last night, we were talking about that Mark Wahlberg movie, Dirty Wash, Dirty Cars, Dirty Hands.
Play Dirty.
Yeah, you love Mark Wahlberg.
We know.
I'm not a fan.
I'm not a hater, but I just feel like he's not going to do anything that I haven't already seen.
And he's proven that over and over again.
However, this is how bad it is, my Mark Wahlberg thing.
I got home last night.
I turn on prime because the game was on.
I watched the end of the game and then I went back to prime the menu and the movie is right there.
I've got two hours before I go to bed.
I was just kind of prepping tonight's show.
It's right in front of me.
It's highlight the movie and I still I don't even check it out.
It was like gift wrapped and I didn't even click play.
So I'm probably never going to see that movie.
But if it was say if it was instead of Mark Wahlberg and it was Paul Rudd.
Are you watching it?
Do we have that Paul Rudd clip?
Gary Gullman.
I don't
know.
Did you save that or do we not?
We played it, didn't we?
I don't know which one you're talking
about.
Gary Gullman is a Boston comedian.
He said, he's about my age.
I was growing up in the 70s.
Do we have that?
Yeah, we do.
See if we can play that.
I love that.
I have it if you want to play it quick.
Let's play it quick.
It's like 30 seconds.
If we've learned anything from Shaq, it's that when an NBA player acts, it doesn't usually turn through.
I named it Gary Oldman.
I don't know why I did that.
So that's my fault.
All right.
Terry's here.
I'll just say really quick, the joke, the Gary Goldman joke was when I was growing up in the 70s, you were either Clint Eastwood or Richard Simmons.
There was no in between.
There were no Paul Rudds or Mark Ruffalo's.
Such a great joke.
All right.
He said Ruffalo.
He said Ruffalo.
That's right.
That's that Boston thing.
All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are officially underway here for Bar Band Friday Night.
Our pal, Terry Barr, has joined the show.
She is in the building, as they say, over the stream, if you will.
She joins us here every week at this time, just about every week.
And we love when she brings us new music and just her amazing personality.
Hello, Terry.
Oh, boy.
How are
you?
Yeah, I was enjoying your conversation there.
That was pretty funny.
Oh,
that's what we do here.
Would it kill you to listen to the show when you're not on it?
I mean, come on.
Terry, I have to ask you our question of the night is, who is the celebrity people tell you you look like or who do you wish you looked like?
Have you ever heard comparisons?
Oh, so like a doppelganger.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You can look at it like that.
Um, no, that's sad.
Not really just kind of
mean celebrity doppelganger.
It just kind of means you're your own person, but and I think that's cool And you're kind of a celebrity you've been on the news, you know you've been on TV now you're on the radio You're like all over civic media, but who do you wish you looked like?
Oh My goodness
Wow,
that's a tough one there are so many women I admire
But does it mean I would want to look like them?
I'm not sure.
You know, I like Lizzie Hale.
She's the lead singer of Hale Storm, heavy metal band.
Nice.
And she's got a great look.
But do I want that for my look every day?
I don't know.
But you know what I want?
I want her voice.
Yeah.
That's what I
want.
Wait a minute.
You have like one of the coolest voices I've ever heard and you're willing to swap your voice?
Well, that's your moneymaker.
Yeah, I know what you mean though like I admire Neil deGrasse Tyson, but I wouldn't want to I couldn't
pull off the hair and the mustache Yeah,
but it's this is purely looks this is a vanity question all the way so
it is it is
all right Well, let's get down to what you know.
Yeah ponder and we will talk about We'll come back to your wheelhouse with
a fun one.
Yeah
We've heard some really great.
We heard McLovin was good.
I said, when I'm in shape, people tell me Sean Penn, and when I'm not in shape, like now people tell me Chris Penn.
His fat brother.
That's what I'm working with.
Conrad said he looks like, or people tell him he looks like Ryan Gosling.
Yeah, and yeah, so.
Obviously, we've been having fun with that question.
But listen, let's get to the task at hand.
Let's talk some music here because I love these two different artists.
I love when you do two artists.
It's fun when we hear one artist in two songs, but I like it this way too.
Who should we start with?
Should we start with Shikari because, you know, it's kind of a little more like, ah,
Judgy.
Shikari Desher.
Yeah, she is great.
And I was...
All right, I'm just gonna say this and then I'll let you to I I did not I could not believe her age Because I
listen to the
song first and I love that she's local.
So tell us all about her, please
Isn't it incredible?
I think every time I Research look these folks up before we either talk about them on your show or on max inc radio on Saturday night
I still cannot believe how lucky we are in Wisconsin with all of this amazing local music and overall original local music.
Right.
So yes, Shikari does all her own music.
She's considered a neo soul singer, songwriter.
But when you listen to the song we're going to play Pete, she does all of it.
It's all done by herself.
And then she kind of puts it all together and she was in
in the Max Inc.
studio last week, and she brings it all as a backtrack, but she sings live to it.
Oh, wow.
Oh, yeah.
Her age, 23.
That blew my mind, because she
was like,
I thought I was listening to like an Ella Fitzgerald or something, and I'm like, this kid is 20.
She's a kid.
That's
nuts.
Yeah.
So then you think okay, where can she go from here now that she's getting her big music out there her first album was only released a couple of months ago
15 original songs
on it.
And every single song is a little different than the other.
So it's jazz.
It's, you know, feelings.
She can rock out and she can also belt it out too.
Yeah.
But this song I really like because I think it kind of symbolizes what she really likes to sing.
All right, that's great.
You're going to have to help me with the name of the song.
Is it Ricidio, Ricidio?
No, it's Recidio.
Recidio.
Oh, wow.
I would not have guessed that.
Yeah, it actually stands for Ricky.
Oh, fantastic.
OK, well, let's get to, this is a Shikari to share, compliments of Terry Barr and the song, say it again, Terry.
Recidio.
Recidio.
All right, let's hear it, Con.
Hello, you have a prepaid call from... Jamate.
Hello, you have a prepaid call from...
I love when she talks at the beginning with the answer.
It's got such a great, this amazing composition.
And again, 15 original songs, similar to that.
Some are different, some are not.
And you can find it if you wanna listen to more.
She has it right now streaming wherever you get music.
But you also listen to her entire interview from last weekend.
If you go to civicmedia.us,
hit the shows tab and then look for Maxink radio.
Absolutely.
G is amazing, Pete.
23 years old from Madison.
When we come back, we've got another amazing song and you can hear them tomorrow night on Maxink and you're going to want to hear these guys.
We'll do an abbreviated thing.
Terry Barr is here.
And now Terry, a text from John, who just sings your praises, loves you, says you have the best voice.
He's from Madison, a big fan listening to.
We're coming right back with Terry Barr and the Bar Band Friday night.
It's Pete Schwabba and Nightlight.
Under me

Final.
All
right, let's talk about Horace Green because we're up against the clock here.
And theirs is a very long song.
We'll play as much of it as we can.
They were in the studio here a month ago, and they rocked it.
They are
awesome.
Oh, you know these guys.
We do, yes.
OK, that is
so good.
So yeah, give us some background.
Well, as you know, it's Tony and Sam and friends.
So
who knows who's going to show up to play with Tony and Sam.
They're based out of Oshkosh.
We've got the brand new song they just put out, but they
tons of shows around Wisconsin coming up.
Trumpelow, they're going to be in Sheboygan, they're going to be in Appleton, and find all of it at Horace Green.
It's G-R-E-E-N-E HoraceGreen.com.
One thing I think is hilarious on their website.
They have frequently asked questions.
Pete, did you see this?
What covers do you do as the Horace Green Band?
Well...
We do Horace Green covers.
Yeah.
And then the other
one, who's your manager?
Who do you think
Horace Green
is our manager?
Yeah, I love these guys and their sound.
I'm so glad.
Have you heard this brand new song?
We have.
And it's like got this kind of funkadelic.
It is just a different, unique, really cool song.
Like they have a great sound.
I agree, and they are bringing it all to the Max Inc Radio Studio tomorrow night live from 8 to 9.
That's outstanding, folks.
If you're in the Madison area, tune in at WMDX 92.7, or you can listen on the app.
But check out Max Inc Radio.
Terry is the co-host with Rocker.
They're both award-winning.
The show is award-winning.
They have outstanding music every week.
And tomorrow from 8 to 9, Cream, that's so cool.
They're in Madison with you.
Yes, they're going to be live in the studio.
So anything you hear from them, live interview, live stories, live songs.
And I'm
sure it's going to get crazy.
And they were fun to talk to too, just really.
down home guys really like them a lot, so why don't we do this?
I'm
so sorry I missed that you had them on, but I love that you did.
That is so great.
Yeah, once in a great while, Terry, we find good music without you, but mostly you're responsible for everything we've discovered.
It's very true, and we appreciate it very much.
Why don't we just close, should we just close the show with cream?
Terry, what do you think?
If you want, it's
your show.
I'm
visiting, but I love
it.
Yeah.
What else?
Well, that way we can get to hear a little more of it because it's kind of a long song and we could take it right up to the top of the hour.
So what anything else you want to tell us about them other than their Max, Inc.
appearance tomorrow night?
Oh, they have a half a million streams on Spotify.
Oh, wow.
And a lot of artists are like, eh, Spotify, we don't get anything from it.
Yeah.
But yet it is a good bragging point when you have half a million streams.
Well, you get a good enough following.
I would have, like, use it for that and then do your own thing, maybe.
No kidding.
All
right.
Yep.
And then try to get people to buy your music, buy your merchandise.
And they really do have a ton of shows coming up.
And if you enjoy what you hear, please go see them.
They're local.
They're Wisconsin.
And this is a great opportunity to just rock out to their music.
This song is a rocker, as are you, Terry.
Next week, Friday, are we good?
I think we have a date.
Outstanding.
Terry Bar, ladies and gentlemen, another Bar Band Friday night is in the books.
Thank you to our guests tonight, John Sabo and Terry Bar.
And thank you for all your texts and calls.
Always more fun when you guys participate.
On behalf of the lovable producer Conrad, we're going out on this tune.

And we're throwing in a gas card, too.
It's a $1,500 plus value.
That's some good walking around money right there.
So good luck, everybody.
Right now, joining me here at Nightlight is our pal, Sean Hannish, and our new pal, Paul.
Paul, tell me how to say your last name again.
Sure.
Jaconi Beery.
Jaconi Beery.
That's a great name.
All right.
Well done.
It's great to meet you.
And this is so funny because I made this film years ago called The Godfather of Green Bay.
paired myself up, this Midwestern boy with my friend Brian and his brother Josh, Brian and Josh Edding, who are from the valley.
And it's funny how Midwest people always go, oh, everybody's so weird out there.
I think people that grow up.
Out there are fine.
They're like everywhere.
It's the people that move there from Chicago or Milwaukee or Minneapolis that feel like they have to act a certain way.
Honest to God, my experience is like, oh, God, they're just like valley kids.
You know, it's like, I don't know where you grew up, Paul, but I
had a
lovely experience with Californians.
We're great.
All right.
It is great to have you guys here.
We're talking about a movie that Paul and Sean are helping or have helped get into theaters.
It opens in a couple of weeks called No Packers, No Life.
The director is Craig Benzine.
Tell us a little bit about the movie itself, you guys.
Well, I'll jump in.
The movie is a very simple story.
but so resonant when it comes to friendship and community.
Really, the story is about Time Morse, who is the producer of the film.
He's also one of the stars of the film.
He has traveled to Asia well over 100 times.
And a number of years ago, he was on a trip and he was in Tokyo, which you know, has this big crossing called Shibuya.
And it's the big one with all the crosswalks.
It's in all the movies and you see it.
He was crossing the street and he actually saw a Green Bay, somebody wearing a Green Bay Packers jersey.
And he'd never seen this on
any
of his 100 trips.
He'd never seen anybody with a Packers jersey.
So he goes up to him and he says, go back, go.
And the
guy
turns around and he says to him, he goes, go back, go.
And the two of them start going, go pack go back and forth until they're in the middle of this crossing going, go pack go.
And the guy, they were both so excited, but neither of them spoke, Tai doesn't speak Japanese, and this gentleman doesn't speak English, but they spoke Green Bay Packers.
So one would say Donald, and the other one would say Driver.
Wow.
One
would say, John.
The other would say, Coon.
So this guy was on his way to go and watch the Packer game with all of his buddies.
And what Ty found is there is this group of passionate Packer fans in Tokyo that call themselves the Japanese Packers' cheering squad.
And they have been cheering on the Packers since the early 90s.
So, you know, since about the time of, you know, the first days of Brett Favre and Reggie White, when they started televising the NFL over, you know, in Japan.
And so they became huge fans.
And so he stumbled into this really great, you know, passionate group of Packer fans half a world away.
And so he goes back to Green Bay and he says to his buddies, he was like, you know, I think we should bring him over to go to a game at Lambeau.
And they make room in all their houses.
His father-in-law has three rooms, a buddy down the street has two beds.
And so they ended up bringing over and hosting almost 30 Japanese Packer fans.
Wow.
And took them to Lambeau Field.
And this is a documentary about that experience, about that trip, about the friendships that were made, and really about...
how amazing it is to be a Green Bay Packer fan, whether you're in Green Bay, Wisconsin, or you're in the middle of Tokyo.
So that's kind of the nuts and bolts of what the film's about, but it doesn't quite capture just the spirit of what it's like to be really from Wisconsin and a Wisconsin sports fan, because that's what it makes it like, the baseball movie.
Both of these movies are about the fans of Wisconsin and how special we all are.
I heard that, uh, I think Craig told me that these people in, uh, these Japanese people would watch VHS tapes of old Packer games.
Like I don't even do that with my teams.
And I, you know, that's, why do they do that?
Do they not have access to the live games all the time?
Or do they just like to relive these great memories?
Yeah, they go, they show up at a karaoke bar two in the morning, Monday morning to watch the game live.
But then they have these regular get togethers where they watch their favorite game.
So they're watch at the end of the season, they'll watch their favorite game of the season.
And then, you know, in the off season, they'll have these regular tape viewers.
And I think, you know, you show almost talking about how how this movie connects to just a bit outside.
And for me, what really connects here is it's about community, right?
And it's about how sports and teams build community.
And whereas just a bit outside is about, you know, the
building up of of Milwaukee over the course of that magical season.
This is about the creation of community around the world.
Yeah.
And how sport can bring people together across boundaries of language, across boundaries of culture, across boundaries of history, across, you know, a dozen time zones.
Right.
So that's that was the magic for us is that this has something really beautiful to say.
about the power of the Packers in sports generally to bring people together.
And it's really a film about joy and about friendship.
And so, you know, we really also felt that, like, right now, that kind of film, like, there's very much a place for that film, for all of us, I think.
I think we could all use a couple hours of just joy and connection.
So that's why we're here.
That's the voice of Paul Giaconi-Berry and Sean Hannish's with us too.
They are executive producers and distributors of the movie No Packers No Life, which opens in Marcus Theatres in a couple weeks.
So Sean, compare what you expect out of the audience if you had to draw a parallel between just a bit outside and the reaction you got with that film in theaters to what you think it will be like for No Packers No Life.
I think people are going to be a little happier about the ending.
Oh, you hope so, right?
I mean, I mean, the ending of I'm so proud of the ending of the Bruce film is very profound.
But this one's really about, you know, I think the film's about anything.
It's really about, you know, finding your passion.
And I think, listen, you know, whether it's 1982, the summer of 1982 in Milwaukee, where the city just became and the state became electric by this group of players that we all felt like, you know, we'd meet in the parking lot and have a beer with or, you know, they just felt like part of the community.
This film is similar in that, you know, the Packers themselves feel part of the community.
I mean, maybe some of the listeners out there took their bike.
you know when they were kids to you know the practice facility and had the players in you know uh when they were in their you know camp you know ride them ride the bike over you know I mean the Packers is a community it's a community of I think what what is kind of cool about this film is it gives us and I say us because I'm born and raised in Wisconsin and I've been a Packer fan since I could remember my first word is that
it really shows us what we have is so incredibly special that people that grew up in a one of the people that live in one of the biggest cities in the world would find the fact that there's an NFL team in a city of 110,000 people in the smallest market in all of pro sports that would have such a huge footprint kind of on American sports culture and world sports culture so it kind of holds up a mirror and in a way I thought
Wow, you know, we are really lucky.
We're so lucky to have this team.
I mean, it's such a crazy thing to think that this team even exists.
And that's what I get through watching the Japanese fans talk about what it's like to be a Packer fan, but also what it's like to visit Green Bay and Wisconsin, one of the one of the lines that I love from the trailer.
And one of the Japanese fans when they came over said, Wisconsin is human.
Wow.
And I think
That's really beautiful because it's true.
Wisconsin is human.
We try so hard to make everybody else feel at home and feel comfortable.
Maybe not Viking fans, but other than them, we try to make everybody feel at home.
It's
definitely, it's so unique because of what you just said, the size of the city.
I think, you know, if Green Bay had 800,000 people or whatever, it might just be...
You know, it's still a popular franchise, but you're right.
The size of the city makes it so you like people that don't have teams.
I think in America and even overseas tend to gravitate towards the Packers just because of the story behind them.
The city owns the team.
It's the only team in the city.
And it makes me think I cannot believe they used to play half their season in Milwaukee.
Like how did that, you know, and it was a good thing for the people in Milwaukee.
It was still the Green Bay Packers, but I don't know why you would give up those four games.
Certainly they don't anymore.
But
it was actually Lombardi's idea to start taking games down to Milwaukee because they needed the money.
Lombardi, what's he
done?
I know, right?
When he came, they needed the money.
So but it's all worked out in the end.
Absolutely.
What do you guys have?
in store next, like this is your second sports movie.
You had different roles on this one, but you're still an integral part of it.
Like what's next?
What is next, Paul?
Gee, that's a good
question.
There's like 10 different things.
It kind of depends, you know?
We're actually, you know, on the distribution side, I will say this.
We're developing this little distribution business and we have been
in conversations with a number of other filmmakers about bringing their films into the world.
So along with our own projects that are currently simmering at various stages, we're also hoping to get a few more films out there in the coming year and really help folks find an audience.
That's why we do this.
We do this so that we can find an audience and share stories with them.
So that's been a little bit of our focus for the minute.
Can you talk about any more Wisconsin sports movies like you seem to hit a niche here that's that, you know, there's a demand for it.
Well, it's, you know, we've had a lot of people reach out since just a bit outside.
And, you know, we've talked to a number of people, people that you'd know about, you know, potentially doing other documentaries, you know, one of a different one about the Brewers, a different one about the Packers.
You know, I think it's.
The fans of Wisconsin are so special Like I feel like we could you know continue to bring all these stories and people will continue to show up as long as they're good But this is a good movie and and you know those who saw just a bit outside would agree that was good, too I mean one Wisconsin sports story that Paul and I have been writing is and I think I mentioned this at a previous show We're writing a story of the early days of Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry
That's great.
Hey, can you
guys stick around for a couple more minutes?
Absolutely.
All
right, we're gonna do a really quick break.
We'll come back and close things up.
We'll have a few more minutes with Paul and Sean, and we'll finish up your text.
And I'm gonna ask you guys what your most mediocre sitcoms is, too.
So think about that over the break, too.
We're coming right back.
It's Nightlight with Pete Schwabba on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Hey, this is John Gries, also Uncle Rico, and you're listening to Nightlight with P.
Chihuahua.
Welcome
back to Nightlight.
I'm P. Chihuahua.
We've got a few more texts here we'll get to from the 920 Caroline in the City.
No name, just 920.
That's interesting because Caroline in the City had a character
It was from Pestigo, Wisconsin, which is like six miles from where I live right now.
So Caroline in the city.
Yeah, kind of forgettable though.
I'm with you.
Melissa from Willie Street says, two broke girls.
That's the second text for two broke girls tonight.
And then John in the 608 says, my three sons.
Oh, okay.
We have another text from Steady Eddie and John.
We will get to shortly right now.
One more reminder, folks.
Tonight's keyword is Laugh.
L-A-U-G-H Laugh.
So get your keyword in on the app.
Good luck.
We have a couple more minutes here with our guests, Paul Giaconi, Biri and Sean Hannish.
They are the executive producers behind No Packers, No Life, which opens in Marcus Theatres in a couple... What's the exact date, you guys?
October 17th.
Okay.
Will you guys be here for
at any of the screenings or.
We're going to we're going to be there that whole week.
We're going to be there for the opening on the 17th but we're also going to be there for the VIP premiere which is going to take place at the majestic Marcus majestic in Waukesha.
Oh
nice.
And that's Wednesday October 15th Pete you should come down for it.
It's going to be fun.
We're getting some of the some great Packers are going to be joining us.
We just confirmed that George Coons.
Super Bowl champion George Coons
is going to be
joining us.
We're going to have a few
other folks that will be announcing along with the filmmakers.
And one of the film, one of the producers was Jay de Merritt, who is captain of the US men's national soccer team back about 15 years ago.
So it's going to be a really fun night.
And yeah, it'll be the it'll be the premier screening of the film.
I would love
to go.
I'm not a very important person, so I don't know if I qualify for the VIP, but you could just give me an AP ticket, like a person.
Pete is, you know, sitting
in that side, the
Euker seats.
And tickets, tickets are available.
There are a limited number of tickets for the public if they want to attend the VIP screening.
They're available at the website, nopackersnolife.com.
Great,
great.
They're going quick for anybody who's interested.
And as Sean said,
We're going to be announcing some additional Packers Legends over the coming days and weeks.
We'll be joining us there.
Oh, that's outstanding.
Well, I wish you luck, guys.
Keep bringing these great movies.
It's so refreshing.
I just saw the movie one battle after another today.
Loved it.
But there are so few films on a bigger scale that come out like Sinners or that one that aren't
superhero franchise, whatever.
I really think there's like a market for these kind of local heightened interest films about sports.
It's so great that you can go to the theater to and have that experience.
Well, that's that's kind of what we want to do.
We want to test this out.
And if, you know, we just think people still want to go to the movies, you know, and have a good couple of hours of escape.
Absolutely.
All right, before we let you guys go, I have to ask you, what are your, what show comes to mind?
And I have to be careful because these guys are both writers.
All right.
So don't say anything they might have worked on.
It's like
looking at your
IMDB pages before going, all right, don't insult the guest, but you're not on there.
And I know you only do awesome work.
But personally, I'd love to be, you know, if someone's heard of my sitcom and they trash it, I don't care, as long as the check's clear.
But what do you guys, what do you think of when you think of mediocre sitcoms?
Don't take mine,
Paul.
I don't think I'm going to.
You go
first.
Alf.
Oh, interesting.
You're a bit younger.
Yeah, Alf.
I thought Alf was, you know, it went four seasons on NBC, you know, mid, mid, mid late 80s.
And, you know, I was just reading there's a little controversy about the ending.
I guess the puppeteers weren't getting along with the actors.
Anyway, I think there's more there to impact.
Alf walked
out during the.
Mine's a slightly deeper poll.
When I was a high school student, I had the opportunity to be in the audience of Golden Palace, which was a spin-off of the Golden Girls.
They got two of the Golden Girls, and they ran a hotel in Miami, and it was very mediocre.
I don't even remember that one.
And the Golden Girls was great.
It's so funny how you can have that big of a drop-off, you know?
It's like Joey or the Friends has been off, or whatever.
You lose the Stelgetti.
It's all
over.
Absolutely.
Guys, thank you so much.
Best of luck with the screenings.
Keep me posted.
And Sean, I'll probably see you with the rest of the band very shortly again here on the show.
I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks,
Pete.
Thanks,
Pete.
Paul Geconi, Barry, and Sean Hannish.
Go to that.
What's the website again?
Real quick, guys, for the tickets.
NoPackersNoLife.com.
Outstanding.
Have a great night, guys.
Thanks so much.
All right.
Thanks so
much.
Thank you.
You got it.
A couple more texts here.
Jim from Appleton says, my mother, the car, early TV sitcom.
I kind of remember that name, but I've never seen the show.
But thank you, Jim.
John Murray in Madison says, Mary Tyler Moore's spin-off Rota gave me issues and I abandoned it at like age 12.
Best show ever back then, Bob Newhart, but his ski mountain spin-off was Daryl and Daryl and not much more.
Why?
Why, Bob?
Even Sheldon was not down with that business.
I don't know, I like, I like both Bob Newhart's, but you know what, John?
You're a savvy guy to each his own.
I really appreciate the text and I, yeah, that's a tough one.
I remember liking Mary Tyler Moore.
I don't remember much about Rhoda.
But I did like Bob Newhart.
But we can agree to disagree, John.
Stettietti says, I loved, hey Pete, I loved Downton Abbey, the TV show, the continuing story, the writing, the actors, the music, the costumes, the settings, and the cinematography were all wonderful.
I looked forward to watching it every Sunday night.
Steadfast Edward says, Pip Pip Cheerio, Downton Abbey, and Nicely Played.
The first movie was only okay.
I think there were too many characters in the TV show for the movie to do them all justice.
Wow, that's a well thought out text.
Thank you, Steady Eddie.
He adds a post script, Conrad.
He says, I have already forgotten the names of many mediocre TV sitcoms.
Hey, great show tonight.
Thank you to Sean Hannish, Paul Gikoni, Barry, and our pal Chris Foran.
Thank you, Conrad.
Conrad, thank you seriously.
Thanks for coming in tonight.
Yeah, you're welcome.
Oh, great stuff.
Thank you for all your texts.
Good luck in the contest.
We'll be back tomorrow night to do it all again with some great guests.
Katharine Lake will be here to tell you about a Godfather of Green Bay Screening in Madison coming up.
Our pal, actor Dan Davies and Greg Bach will talk about the Milwaukee Comedy Festival at 635.
So great show, jam packed show again tomorrow night.
We'll have a great question for you.
Please join us again on behalf of the lovable producer Conrad.
I'm Pete Schwab.
I was saying good night,
Wisconsin.
Welcome back.
I'm Pete Schwabba.
Great to have you here on this Wednesday night, the last farmer's market in downtown, on Broadway.
I gotta keep catching myself, Conrad.
I never, I've never been to the farmer's market here.
I
haven't
either.
It's like $9 for an ear of corn.
You have to cook it yourself and there's no butter.
How is that fun?
It's not, folks.
So we're going to bring the fun to make up for that lack of fun.
And that was brutal.
That
might be the
worst.
Let's just move on.
All right.
This is exciting, though.
Things are about to pick up because my pal Greg Bak is about to join us.
A fellow host here at Civic Media, he is one of the co-hosts of Matt and Aaron Error.
He does every day with Jane Matt and Error.
They do a great job talking current events.
They'll make you laugh.
They do it all.
Greg is also a very funny comedian and one of the producers of the Milwaukee Comedy Festival and he joins us now here on Nightlight over the stream.
Hey, buddy.
Hey, my friends, how are you doing?
Can you hear me?
We can hear you great.
Did you get a haircut, Greg?
I did.
I got a haircut and I got rid of the beard and,
yeah.
I'm not entirely sure that's Greg Bachcon read.
Can you verify?
I think that is great.
I trust you.
Hey buddy.
It's great to have you here.
You look outstanding.
Thank you very much.
It's good to be here.
Thanks for having me this evening.
I appreciate you.
My pleasure, and I think there needs to be more comedy.
Anytime there's a festival or a fun show coming up, we have to talk about it.
But before we get there, and maybe this is apropos because you just got a haircut, not saying you have bad hair, certainly, but what celebrity, Greg, our question tonight is, has the worst hair?
Oh, boy.
Oh, gosh.
What celebrity has the worst?
Hair
I say you could think about it for a while and we can come back to it.
I said Bon Jovi You know, yeah, it looks like he spent two hours trying to make it look perfectly messy.
It's annoying.
Oh See that doesn't sound like you don't I think you're jealous of that hair peach blob.
I don't think it's about the the quality of his work I think it's more about the impact and you're jealous of his quaff
And it is quaffed for 40 plus years, and it's always- That's part
of it.
It
has stayed as relevant as his music has stayed relevant.
Well, we could argue that too.
I don't think it's music.
I have jumped off the Bon Jovi train years ago.
I just find it.
Oh boy.
Welcome everyone to Peach Waba Bean Brave.
But listen, I thought you actually were- You actually were speaking truth to power.
I thought you were talking.
I thought you were gonna fight me on that for a minute there.
No,
no.
Okay.
I understand the impact of Bon Jovi and I understand that people love Bon Jovi and, you know, they have a place in this world and God bless them for doing what they did.
They wrote amazing songs that make you tap your toe and take
you back to
middle school dances.
And yeah, so I'm pro Bon Jovi, but I just don't listen to them anymore.
When you say Bon Jovi, and I say Bon Jovi, are we talking about the same band?
I just want to clarify that before.
I just like
feeling
a
little sassy.
Bon Jovi.
Bon Jovi.
You give love about a name.
He's a very handsome man.
There's no doubt about that.
So we'll come back to you
for your
answer.
I'm going to
keep that in the back of my noggin here, my brain box here, and try to think of a...
A celebrity with the worst hair.
The other one Greg I had was Boris Johnson.
That was a runner-up because that guy's just a clown.
I mean, I know what he's doing with that hair.
Yeah, that is, it's ridiculous.
The fact that anyone has ever taken him seriously is beyond me.
Correct.
All right, Greg, so let's jump in.
You've got this great comedy club.
Now, did I read this correctly?
You're moving, right?
Are you in the new space yet?
Correct.
Not yet.
We have not
announced this the new space yet.
We're in the we're in the they're in the the throws of movement and and and Finding and negotiating and all the things but we cannot announce anything yet because we do not have those details to Put out to the world
as soon as
we do we will let everyone know and Yeah, and the the old space we closed that in mid-June of this year last summer or this past summer I should say
And we have been looking for a new spot in Milwaukee cause that is where we, you know, we're, we are a Milwaukee club.
We're a Milwaukee company cause we're in Milwaukee comedy.
And so yeah, with more, with more days that come, we will give more information.
Awesome.
What is, is that old comedy cafe space on Brady street still available?
Is that, is anything in there?
It's gone.
What do you mean gone?
They knocked it down.
They knocked it down.
They, there's an arcade there, arcade bar there.
Oh wow.
Yeah, it's just gone.
Well, actually, I don't know if you knew this, but.
They were on, they were on water street just before, you know, if you know Milwaukee, they were on water street just before it became Brady.
And then they moved to old world third.
I remember that.
It was a nice small room.
It was really fun.
I, I really
liked that
room.
The only thing I didn't like is the back walls had mirrors along the, along it.
So while you were watching, while you were doing stand up, you were watching yourself do stand up, which was a little disconcerting, but then that one closed, I think in 2018.
And then, oh God, jokers.
Joker's closed, I think the following year and that was it.
We were bereft of comedy clubs in Milwaukee, the city, the, you know,
the
nuts.
Yeah.
Wow.
For like a
solid two years.
So what made you, and then the laughing tap appeared and then problem solved.
So you, what made you want to do that?
Like for a comic to do that, you know, that's a pretty big plunge, right?
Well, I mean, it was the fact that we were already putting on shows around the area and we were for a while, we were purposely putting on shows during the week.
So we didn't compete with the clubs.
We didn't, you know, we, we understand everyone's got to make their money and we didn't
want
to try to hone in on anyone's territory.
But as we kept doing more shows and the consistency of the clubs, like I shouldn't say consistency, but sometimes they'd be open.
Sometimes they'd be closed.
So we'd start doing shows on weekends.
Plus some comics just can't do a Tuesday night.
They want to do a Friday or a Saturday.
So finally just became part of the story of we will build a comedy club or we will open a comedy club in the next few years.
And then it all got hit.
The gas got hit hard because someone offered us a space.
And in January of 2020, we opened the doors in March of 2020.
We closed the doors for four months.
Well, I applaud you.
I think that's so great.
And I thought, you know, if I was ever going to own a business, I mean, what more fun could you have than owning a comedy?
I'm sure it's got its headaches.
I'm sure comics are difficult to deal with sometimes.
But how much do you make a year, Greg, doing that?
I make exactly 32,000 laughs a year.
That's not counting taxes, which I pay.
I pay my taxes looking at you, most of Congress.
And no, I will say this.
One thing that we've talked about before amongst us who, you know, me and Caitlin and Matt, we are the three who run the club is we've been very lucky to never work with any comics who have been massive headaches.
Yeah, everyone's got their personalities.
You know this as well as anybody.
There's, I mean.
just because a comic's quiet doesn't mean they're mean or they're rude.
There just might be quite a lot of comics or introverts, a lot of comics when they get off stage.
They're not about going to the bar and whooping it up.
They want to go in the back room.
They want to think about their show.
They want to decompress.
That being said, everyone, I mean, I can't think of a single comic who's walked through the room who we've ever said cannot do this.
They are too...
much personality, too much ego, too much, ugh, don't like that at all, never again.
We've been very lucky in that sense.
Oh, that's excellent.
Well, you kind of can pursue the ones you want, too.
Absolutely.
The people's reputation sometimes precedes them, you know, so.
Well, that's outstanding.
I look forward to the new space, even though I never made it into the old space.
I will definitely love
it.
No, Pete, you didn't.
Well, listen, I asked for, I said I could do a tight five and you said, no crowd work within that five.
And I said, I'll take a hike.
You have your, you know,
I've got my standards.
That's in my rider.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
So tell us about the comedy festival, Greg.
It's, I believe it's this weekend, correct?
It starts.
Unofficially starts on Monday with the roast of Milwaukee, which is put on with by Milwaukee record.
That's happening at the Coopridge hosted by our friend, Kristen Brie.
And it's going to be Milwaukee comedians roasting Milwaukee like they have.
And I think this is the eighth or ninth year.
Very, very fun.
Always a good time.
Always making fun of the fun things about Milwaukee and suburban Wisconsin and things
like that.
And then Tuesday kicks off the official event with a partner non-Sherlock.
who is, she's been in movies and TV shows.
She has written a wonderful book.
She will be opening the show at Lakefront brewery on that Tuesday, next Tuesday, the seventh.
And that show is creeping towards sold out.
So if you
want to go to that show,
you want to get tickets sooner than later.
You can do that by going to MKEcomedyfest.com.
And then the next night we have, we're going to be back at the Cooperage with Sean Patton, who you've seen in all the late night shows.
And his show, he's a co-star of
the show English teacher, which just premiered their second season last week on FX.
He plays the gym teacher.
He will be headlining the Cooperage that night on Wednesday, the eighth.
And then the ninth, actually, I'm going to go to the 10th real quick Friday, Shank Hall, punky Johnson of Saturday Night Live, formerly of Saturday Night Live will be headlining Shank Hall on the 10th.
She's, I'm so excited to meet her and to watch her work.
It's going to be a great time.
That Shank Hall is one of the best rooms, one of the best non-comedy club rooms in the city or I've ever been to.
It's just perfect for comedy, intimate, quiet, low ceilings, dark, great staff.
Always love working with Shank Hall.
And then going back to Thursday, the eight of the ninth, we are working with our, probably the biggest get my, he is the reason why I do stand up.
We are, we have Patton Oswald.
He will be headlining the Pat's theater.
All those
tickets, you can find links to those tickets at MKEcomedyfest.com.
And the thing is, is that all those shows will have comics on there from the fest, people who have been admitted in, they submitted, we've admitted them in, they are going to be part of it.
And then throughout the weekend, Friday, late nights, two shows on Saturday, two shows on Sunday.
And we talk more about that in a moment, but they're going to have a lot of great comics from all over the country, doing shows, doing sets, but those are big for
Headliners of Parnan on Sherilla, Sean Patton.
Punky Johnson, and of course, Patton Oswald.
That is an outstanding lineup.
My guest is Greg Bach, folks.
He is the co-host of Matten Air on Air that you can hear every day here on Civic Media on the network.
And he's also a comedian and one of the producers of the Milwaukee Comedy Festival.
And that's what we're talking about right now.
I was telling a story, Greg.
I don't know Patton Oswald.
By the time I had moved to LA, all he had to do was go on stage.
And I remember this vividly.
And he said, he went on stage and he
He said, Matt Damon and people erupted at the anticipation of what he was going to say.
I'm like, this guy's a juggernaut, you know?
And then I was telling Conrad, my pal Jimmy Parno got married and Patton and I were both on the roasting team.
Again,
I don't know
him, but he kept calling me.
I kept calling Jimmy Johnny Pardo, and it was the funniest thing.
Like by the eighth time he said Johnny Pardo, I was in stitches.
He's a very funny guy.
He is, he's
very funny.
He's one of
those comics.
Very good actor, great writer, knowledge of movies is wonderful.
He's written a couple great books I've read.
And he is, like I said, the reason why I do stand up, he is
my number one
guy.
And I'm gonna do my best to be both a...
professional producer, which I always am, but also try not to fanboy out too much if I have the opportunity to meet him.
And yeah, he's just, what I like about him so much is that he also grows.
He
is a
man who is, I think, knocking on 16.
There's a lot of comics out there.
Headed Sage could do whatever they want or do nothing, but he continues to grow in not only his comedy, but in his opinions of the world.
And it's great to listen to him.
talk about that on stage and be funny at the same time.
That is a great point because I remember, you remember the HBO Young Comedian specials.
Absolutely.
Sometimes they would have someone on there and I'm like, well, that's a great point.
I'm not really laughing.
It's very
rare that you
can
have a Bill Hicks or a Patton Oswald.
He's become that guy who can say really insightful stuff and be hilarious.
Greg, let's pick it up right there.
We're gonna do a really short break and we'll come back and talk for a few more minutes with our pal Greg Bach about the Milwaukee Comedy Festival.
We're coming right back.
This is Night Light with Pete Schwabba on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
Welcome back.
Great texts.
Folks, keep those coming.
Our question of the night is, what celebrity has the worst hair?
I'm Pete Schwab, and this is Nightlight.
We will get to your tech soon and I will give you some more info on our go for the green and gold text to win multi-state contest here at Civic Media.
It's really fun.
We've been, I'm going to blast with it.
It goes through Friday.
More details coming up in act two and I will give you the keyword shortly after that as well.
So stick around right now.
We have a few more minutes with our pal.
Greg Bach, who is one of the co-hosts of Matt and Aaron Error every day here on the Civic Media Network from 9 to 11.
And how are things going there?
Are you and Jane still getting along, Greg?
Absolutely.
We have a great time.
It's really,
really fun.
I'm very, very lucky to be doing that show.
I'm really lucky, honestly, when it comes to this network.
And I'm not saying that because I know our overlords
are listening.
But
radio was something I always wanted to do.
I never thought there was going to be an opportunity.
And then I received one opportunity.
And then I mean, like more happened and more happened.
And now I am where I am with the Matt and Aaron Aaron, with Jane, who is a legend.
I mean, all the time we hear people saying things like, you know, you're with Jamie.
I've been listening to her since I was a kid.
And then I don't tell her that.
Cause then she's like, Oh, people are calling me old.
I'm like, take a compliment already.
Would you?
But yeah, I mean, it's great.
We have a really great time.
I think the show was great because.
We talk about important things, things that affect Wisconsinites, things that affect Americans, but then we also do know how to keep some lighter tones in there.
We know how to poke fun at what needs to be poked fun at, revere and respect that needs respect, but we always want to make sure that for ourselves as the people doing the job, it can be a lot looking at the news every single day and trying to decide what we want to talk about, but then trying to involve a bit of
Levity, if you will.
Absolutely.
Greg is also a very accomplished stand-up comedian and comedy club owner.
The Milwaukee Comedy Festival starts Monday, October 6th.
They have a great lineup, Patton Oswald, Punky Johnson, Sean Patton, and Aparna Nanchurla.
Am I saying that right, Greg?
Yes, you did.
Good job.
Oh, wow.
All right.
Look at that.
I'm getting better at this.
Yeah, this.
So are you going to perform?
Are you emceeing or doing anything?
Can people see your act?
No, I don't perform during
the
fest.
We, we, you know, that's something that I hold very strongly for me.
It's like, I'm not against anyone.
I'm not against producers performing in their own festivals.
If they'd like to, I for myself don't because we have so few slots to begin with,
but
every one that I may take is one less that a comic gets.
And especially if they're traveling from around the country, it's just for me.
And also,
to have to think about my set and then also go on and then put on the show.
It's not apt for concentration and good performance.
So I'd much rather just watch and then enjoy from that point of view.
Well said.
Let me ask you this.
Is there pressure?
I mean, this festival's been around for many years, but Milwaukee kind of has a reputation of the city of festivals.
Is there pressure to put on like a great festival every year?
Do you feel like you do that every year?
Do you ever feel like, oh, we could, you know, the city's watching, right?
Well, I think that for us personally, like the pressure that we have is not coming from outside forces.
It's from within the pressure we put upon ourselves to create the best festival possible with the best headliners and the best.
people from around the country, from around the world coming through, slotting
the
shows.
I mean, I don't know your experience with producing shows, but putting together a show in my opinion is as much an art form as stand-up comedy can be as well, because
you
have to look at the show, you have to look at the time slot, you have to look at the people, you have to say, okay, these people compliment each other.
These people have the same style, so we don't want to put them either next to each other or even on the same show.
It's about crafting a show and crafting a festival.
And the pressure really comes from within.
I mean, people have a good time.
They have a great time.
And we get great, we get great, you know, we get great notes and great words.
And we have a lot of great reviews from people, both,
you
know, performers, producers, managers, agents, all the, you know, the only pressure I really ever feel is can we do as well as we did the year before?
And
I don't think, I can't think of a single festival we ever did where I said, let's never do that again.
In fact, you know,
We actually did a festival in 2020.
We did the 14th and a half annual because it was much smaller, less people, less applicants, and we kept it very, very safe.
But even that one was great because it knew what it was in the time we were living and we were just trying to get out and have as much of a good time as we could with masks and no vaccine.
So yeah, the pressure always just comes from within.
And then as soon as we're done, we're like, ugh.
And then for like 15 seconds, we're like, let's never do this again.
Wow.
I can't even imagine.
That does sound like a lot of pressure.
Greg Bakas here.
We're talking about the Milwaukee Comedy Festival that starts Monday coming up at 7.05.
Catherine Lake will be here.
The station manager of WMDX will be discussing a movie screening of one of my films in Madison.
I'm excited about that.
And then it's 7.35.
And Davies and director Michael Seibel.
Yeah, you going to come, Greg?
They're showing a film they
made.
I'll be here movies more times.
You've been to the laughing tap peep schwaba.
I will come to the laughing tap as a show of good faith I want to there you go.
I want to be there anyway It's it's I'm sure you guys are gonna have a great space before we let you go Greg.
We've got about a minute Who makes you laugh?
You're a savvy guy probably a little jaded when it comes to comedy who's out there right now that really makes you laugh
I mean
Honestly, the people who make me laugh aren't even comedians sometimes, you know, or, or people that comedians make me laugh offstage privately.
We're having a good time.
But I would say someone who still makes me laugh this day, who's performing.
Oh God, another one of those.
I would say Kyle Canane.
I say Kyle Canane always makes me laugh.
There's something about him that just sounds.
So conversational, but it's so brilliant the way he talks and yeah, he's and then someone like my friend Maddie Field who always makes me laugh and we're hanging out and he's great comedian But he's even funnier offstage.
I like all these guys.
You've had Kyle at the festival before love Todd Berry Brian Pussain lovely guy Mary Mac.
She's been on the show.
She's hilarious.
Oh, yeah, you guys you know a lot of my friends are on your show Oh, well, hey keep sending them.
We love the comedians.
So it's
absolutely
Greg, best of luck.
Crush it with the festival.
Keep us posted.
And I really, truly cannot wait to see your new space.
So keep me posted on that as well.
We'll do, Pete.
Thank you so much for having me tonight.
Okay, buddy.
That's Greg Bach.
Listen to Matt Nair on air every day here on the network from 9 to 11.
Such a great show.
Greg is outstanding on the show as is Jane.
So we will wrap this up for intermission and be back for Act 2 with Catherine Lake.
And a keyword awaits all of you folks.
Do not go anywhere.
This is Pete Schwabba in Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio
Network.
