live statewide from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.

This is Night Light with Pete Schwabba, your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.

And now, a guy who has a black and white plasma TV, Pete Schwabba.

Pete Schwabba

Welcome.

It is a Friday night in the state of Wisconsin.

You could be doing a lot worse.

Great to have you with me on this Friday night as we plow into the weekend a pre-NFL draft weekend, which, you know, to other people in the state, probably I think it's recognized as a cool thing, but I don't know if people realize how much is going to change our lives here in Northeast Wisconsin.

Even like in an hour radius, even in some cases more,

Hotel rooms will be booked up.

There will be parking issues.

And so much so that I will be headed to Madison for a couple nights to do the show down there because it will just be easier to get around.

But we've got one more normal weekend.

Next weekend will be crazy, but it'll be kind of fun if you live in Northeast Wisconsin.

We'll talk a little bit about the draft tonight with our first guest.

I kind of buried the lead there because we're going to talk about the draft.

I'm going to ask Emerson Layman.

one of the co-hosts of the WBAY Morning Show here in Green Bay, what his plans for the draft will be and what he thinks about it.

But Conrad, you know the main reason tonight we're having Emerson on the show.

Lay it on me.

Conrad

Pickleball?

Pete Schwabba

Pickleball, baby.

Emerson was in Marinette last weekend.

He sent me a text saying, hey, as promised, I'm letting you know I'm in Marinette, so I went there.

Got a bunch of footage.

We played it.

Some soundbites, I should say.

Yeah.

And we played it.

Emerson sounded like he was having a great time.

So he's coming on tonight.

He's going to be here at 6.35 to give us an in-person recap of his time in my hood.

It was great to have him there.

He looked like he was having a ball.

Everyone looked like they were having fun.

I could not believe how crowded and it's not a little rec center.

It's good size for Marinette, but it's not humongous by rec center standards, but it

was packed.

And pickleball, ladies and gentlemen, is the sport of the future.

John Cusack in Say Anything said, kickboxing was the sport of the future.

I think pickleball has taken over.

And I think you're less likely to be concussed.

Emerson will be here at 635.

We've got a pickleball quiz for Emerson.

He's going to talk about how he did in the tournament.

I still don't know how he did.

I know there was a pro there.

That Emerson told me was really hard to beat so we'll find out how the pro did we'll find out how Emerson did it's gonna be a great conversation and then if we have time I Have a little game I created called this just in Or this just in And I'm gonna give a new story and Emerson will have to decide if it's fake or real it's gonna be fun so Emerson's got his work cut out for him tonight.

He's gonna leave here mentally exhausted Conrad

Conrad

well

He's got some songs to look forward to in the second hour.

Pete Schwabba

That's true.

Is he going to stay for that?

I mean, he could, but I'm saying

Conrad

he can also listen on his drive back.

Pete Schwabba

That will mellow him out.

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah.

And I think my goal is for him to leave here.

I want this to be kind of an escape for him because he works very hard at his job.

Tonight he's going to have to put his sticky cap on, but it'll be fun.

No pressure.

And then, ladies and gentlemen, it is Friday night on Nightlight, and you know what that means.

It is a bar band Friday night, our friend Terry Barr from Max, Inc.

Radio, one of the brilliant hosts of Max, Inc.

Radio drops by with new tunes and fun chat every week.

We look forward to spending time with Terry.

It's so much fun.

So you're here on a good night.

We've got a lot going on and some big changes here to folks at Civic Media, not huge changes, but as many of you may or not.

or may probably know by now, Dhamma Salvia.

The Dhamma Salvia show is no longer, Dhamma is no longer with the network, but it was all good.

Parting was friendly, Dhamma's doing other things, but that caused a little bit of a shuffle.

So starting next Wednesday from 5 a.m.

to 6 a.m., it'll be the Midwest Farm Report with Pam Yankee.

I almost said Yankee.

You almost did it.

I know.

Pam Yankee.

That's such a cool.

It's kind of exotic.

It's like the anti Schwabba

Conrad

having that silent J's, you know,

Pete Schwabba

it's

Conrad

kind

Pete Schwabba

of cool.

Conrad

It's really cool.

Pete Schwabba

Is she from Iceland?

That's a good question because my friend Thor Johnson was actually Jansen and it was with a J. That is cool.

Very cool.

And maybe they're friends.

Love Pam.

She does a great job.

She'll be on from 5 to 6 a.m.

And then from 6 to 9 on the network, Pat Crightlow will be on, powered by Up North News.

Pat is a blast to listen to.

Informative, fun, smart, great stuff.

However, in local markets, John and Gordy will still be on at WMDX, Mornings in Madison, and our pals, Minow and the Mayor, will still be on here in Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin.

Minow and the Mayor will still continue from 6 to 9.

From 9 to 11,

It's Matt Narenair with Jane, Matt Naren, Greg Bach.

11-2 will be the Tom Hartman program.

Tom is coming back during daylight hours on the network from 11-2.

2-4, it's the Todd Alba show.

4-6, you got Maggie Dawn.

And then 6-8, we are still where we are at Nightlight with Pete Schwabba will continue in that time slot.

Conrad

And if you just... So, John and Gordy and Mino and Mary stay at the same time.

Yeah.

Yep.

WGBWW ISS for mine on the mayor.

It's awesome.

Pete Schwabba

Did I not say that?

Conrad

I don't,

Pete Schwabba

I thought I said things that say the, stay the same in Madison and Green Bay.

Thank you for your meticulous, just making sure.

No, you're not Conrad.

You're busting my chops.

And you know what?

Take a memo.

Oh.

No, I appreciate you.

I appreciate the backup.

So that's good.

All good.

John and Gordy still kicking things around in Madison in the morning and Mino in the mirror.

So none of that changes, but great things happening here at Civic Media.

And that was supposed to come out as a joke, but I think it was kind of hard on you there.

I apologize for

Conrad

that.

You said take a memo.

I'm waiting for the memo.

Pete Schwabba

How about dropping give me 20?

How does that sound?

Conrad

I'm writing that down.

Pete Schwabba

You know, I got so excited yesterday gelato next door There's a whole bunch of activity over there and I thought I'm gonna get some Friday night gelato They're open and it's like close for construction remember last year They were doing that construction and we could hear banging and sawing all through the show.

What are they remodeling already?

Conrad

Yeah, you know, I didn't think they would actually take off that whole winter I thought they were gone, but they just took off the winter months and now they're coming back

So

Pete Schwabba

it's only it's a summer only business because I don't think they can or they don't think Pete I would go for some occasional winter gelato.

Conrad

I love their coffee there.

So I

Pete Schwabba

probably coffee gelato or

Conrad

coffee.

I'm glad they kind of shut down for a while.

It didn't spend so much money on

Pete Schwabba

it's a five dollar coffee.

It is expensive.

Here's what I've decided.

Let's do first.

Let's do the question because I think this is important.

We got a good question tonight and for the this is inspired.

You remember last night when Mike Clemens was here?

I said that like it was a long time ago.

Yeah, I remember.

I was cracking up all night that that just came out of the blue that he wrote the song Pacarena.

That's just so

Conrad

bizarre.

That's awesome.

Pete Schwabba

It is awesome.

And Jane McNair was singing it.

It was just a funny story of the guy said, have it done by the end of the day.

And he wanted to get to his tea time.

He wanted to get to his tea time.

And they did it and they still made their tea time.

Now, don't.

Panic.

It's not like they mailed it in.

This song is quality, and they wrote great lyrics and still made their tea time, which is awesome, but it inspired tonight's question of the night.

Announcer

Let's talk about the question.

Pete Schwabba

OK, question.

Announcer

Question.

Conrad

Question.

Pregunta.

Question.

Question.

OK, I have a question.

Questions.

This question.

Domanda.

Question.

Question.

Questions.

Pete Schwabba

What is your favorite sports-related song?

What is your favorite sports related song?

Mike Clemens inspired 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 Civic or you can text us on the app or on the stream if you're watching on YouTube X Twitter Is it X Twitter?

It's Twix.

It's Twix.

Oh, yeah, I forgot.

I forgot about Twix.

Thanks to Todd Alba.

Yeah Or Facebook

So if you're watching on the stream you can text us on the stream use the Facebook app It's so easy and you probably all have it after our last awesome contest our break into summer contest which was a big success or Old school pick up your phone and text away at eight five five seven five two four eight four two I'm gonna go first my favorite sports related song just because I was a former Chicago Bulls partial season ticket holder During the Jordan years, so I got to say I in the sky the intro when they would announce the team it was

majestic, it was spine-tingling, it was incredible.

So that is my favorite sports-related song.

There are so many, though.

These are all inspired by the Pacarano.

Thanks to Mike Lemons.

And Jane McNair.

What's your favorite, Conrad?

You got a favorite?

God, that's just

Conrad

a little bit obnoxious.

Announcer

It's not even a song!

Conrad

Bang on the

Announcer

drum all day.

It's a

Conrad

song For the group for the peck Green Bay Packers.

I've heard of them Or like the go-pack go chant slash

Pete Schwabba

no

Conrad

no no no

Pete Schwabba

no bang

Conrad

on

Pete Schwabba

the drum is much better.

Conrad

It's so yeah, it's so good Go-pack.

Oh, it's just a chant.

It's not really there's music behind it Do-do-do-do-do-do exactly

Pete Schwabba

you know it That should win a mammy or a whammy

Uh, is that your favorite bang on the drum?

Yeah, I love that song.

I get that.

Okay.

That's a fun one.

I can, I can transport myself to the body of a Packer fan and I could say, yeah, I'd probably really enjoy that.

Um, we got some texts.

Oh, we got to read Luke Mather's text last night because our song last night or our question last night was who was your favorite solo artist, musical solo artist?

And Luke Mathers, we missed this text right at the end of the show.

He said, the White Stripes Seven Nation Army transports me back to the student section for a Saturday game day at Camp Randall Stadium.

I don't think I know that song, but I must have heard it because I've been to Badger games.

That's interesting.

You know what?

Jump around is up there too.

I

Conrad

mean, yeah, that was a close second for me.

Pete Schwabba

That's a great song with or without sports.

Conrad

Yeah.

Pete Schwabba

So, thank you, Luke.

Matt Harper says, Bruce Springsteen, glory days, phenomenal one.

Well done, Matt.

Yeah, I love that tune.

Eric Rathsack from Ask Your Mother says, put me in coach John Fogarty, or relatively unknown song called Beat the Record by the Warren Brothers.

Announcer

Oh, I

Pete Schwabba

don't know that song either.

Put me in coach is a great, actually, I think it's called Center Field, but it's a great tune.

Good baseball song.

Lots of great baseball songs.

Conrad

Oh, yes.

I'm trying to think of one.

I'll get back to you on which one I really

Pete Schwabba

like.

Yeah, I need a good baseball song from Conrad.

Mike Desatel also says, Glory Days, Springsteen.

It's funny because that's, it's just a, again, it's just a great song and they talk about a guy who was a great pitcher in high school.

So it's funny that you equate that with sports and they also sang it at the Super Bowl during the halftime show and that was phenomenal.

I think Streets Have No Name, U2.

A lot of people think Prince had the best halftime show.

For me, it was U2 after 9-11 when they had that banner going up with all the names of the 9-11 victims and they were singing Streets Have No Name.

I don't think of that as a sports song, but I do now because of that Super Bowl performance.

Maybe the same thing with Glory Days.

All right, we're coming back.

We're going to read some more texts and we're going to talk some more pickleball.

What's going on here tonight?

You're here on a great night, folks.

It's a Friday nightlight edition with Pete Schwabba.

Great to have you on the Civic Media Radio

Narrator

Network.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Welcome back to Nightlight.

I am your host for this evening's festivities.

Pete Schwaba, great to have you with me.

Great show tonight Emerson layman coming up in just a few minutes He is the morning show host at WBA Y here in Green Bay And he is an avid and very talented pickleball player.

It is also a bar band Friday night So terry bar from max inc radio our Friday night friend will be here to bring some new tunes and And dazzles with her conversation skills because she's always so much fun to talk to our question of the night

Is what is your favorite sports related song?

So it's kind of a You know, it's kind of a there's those Like somebody said does this count?

Glory days, I think it wasn't yeah if you associated with sports or if you hear it at your stadium or as part of this opening starting lineups, whatever absolutely There are no rules to this as per usual.

So let us know what your favorite sports song is I said I in the sky by Alan Parsons project

from my days going to see the Bulls play at the Chicago Stadium.

Chicago Stadium and then the United Center and the place would just rock.

House of Pains jump around is right up there too.

Conrad's is bang on the drum.

Is that the actual title?

Bang on the drum, right?

Okay.

That's a good one too.

So what are your favorite sports songs?

PJ on the stream says, oh yeah, House of Pains, jump around.

UW Badgers hands down.

Tough to argue with that.

And then PJ says, does wild thing count?

Absolutely.

Because it was in the movie.

It was, I almost said just a bit outside.

It was in Major League.

That absolutely counts, PJ.

That's a great one.

So let us know yours.

We'll read it on the radio and it will be great fun.

Monica from Mount Horrib says, was going to say Boys of Summer.

But that's a sports song in name only.

So you know what?

I kind of disagree with you, Monica.

But Boys of Summer, it is a sports term.

Yeah, it's not a support song.

I assume you're talking about the Don Hanley version.

But that is such an amazing song about the end of summer.

Nobody on the beach, nobody on the road, the sun goes down alone.

God, great tune.

If anything, thank you for making me think of that song, Monica.

But yeah, gonna fly now from Rocky, another phenomenal one.

Tony the trucker says, Pete, the bears still suck by the happy schnapps combo.

You know what, Tony?

I've had about enough of your crap.

Conrad, you're not chiming in there.

I don't know what to say anymore.

That's what I get for hosting a radio show on Wisconsin.

Conrad

I'm bound

Pete Schwaba (host)

to hear that.

That's fine, Tony.

And the Bears have sucked for a long time.

I can't really argue with that.

I will say, I've never heard of the happy schnapps combo though, but I love that name.

Conrad's dad, Steve says, all time greatest is gonna fly now.

Another vote for gonna fly now, the theme from Rocky.

Could not agree more.

Paula, Conrad's mom checking in.

We are the champions.

Yeah, another big one.

That might be the most famous one.

Or we will rock you.

All great stuff.

So keep those texts coming, folks.

Be part of the show.

It's always more fun that way.

I will say, driving down here tonight, I always have an issue.

I could complain every night about other drivers, but I only do it like four nights a week because I don't want people to get sick of it.

But I found out something tonight.

I was driving down here and you know those Calvin peeing stickers that people put on their cars Just a cute kid and one of the cutest cartoons ever Calvin and Hobbes and they've completely made it into this weird thing where angry people put a sticker of Calvin pissing on something Yeah, that they don't like and I here's here's what I have surmised from seeing these stickers on these cars

The stickers are douchey The cars are douchey typically that they're on and the people inside same I don't want to be friends with people who think it's cool to put a Calvin peeing on some regardless whether he's peeing on Trump or some kind of liberal thing or whatever if you have if you have completely cheap and this awesome cartoon and You have Calvin peeing as a sticker on your car regardless of what he is peeing on I know that we probably wouldn't be friends.

What do you think about that Conrad?

Conrad

Well, all right, so

Pete Schwaba (host)

you have one of those stickers on

Conrad

your car No, but I know this I follow this page on Instagram that's they have this it's it's all about a Packers like man cave that they have in the basement,

Pete Schwaba (host)

okay?

Conrad

And they have three Kelvin pissing in their toilet, okay, and it's all of them like pissing out like The bears bears

Pete Schwaba (host)

Vikings

Okay, haha, but I mean It's one thing to put it in that I guess mostly it's in the car.

Why would you you're driving around with

Conrad

yeah?

Pete Schwaba (host)

Broadcasting what an idiot you are.

Conrad

Yeah, I don't like it on the car And the toilet's kind of funny cuz I mean it's just in the toilet.

No one can see unless you're there But why Calvin?

That's what I love that cartoon.

Why would you do that?

You know, there's a lot of spin-offs with Calvin Wow, where does it come from?

I just think it was a really popular cartoon, and they just were like, let's make Calvin do something different.

Pete Schwaba (host)

But I've never seen a sticker of Charlie Brown flipping people off.

Conrad

You haven't?

Pete Schwaba (host)

Just gave you an idea.

Here's what Tyler from Wisconsin Rapid says.

That's also the 608.

He says, I don't want to pickle.

I just want to ride my motorcycle by Arlo Guthrie.

What the heck is pickleball?

Oh, Tyler, you have to stick around.

See, no only Tyler and how perverse his texts can be sometimes.

Conrad

I thought he meant

Pete Schwaba (host)

pickle like in a naughty way or something Yeah, our local three, that's awesome.

We'll tell you you got to stick around cuz you're gonna learn a lot about pickle ball with our next guest who's coming up in just a few minutes Emerson layman will be here.

That's gonna be fun.

So anyway, we've established that I don't like that I don't like that sticker

Conrad

I need to get

Pete Schwaba (host)

that off my chest

Conrad

speaking of stickers.

Yeah

You know, I told you this yesterday, which when I was coming to coming to work, coming to the studio, not even leaving my apartment building in the apartment building, you know, the complex eight miles per hour.

That's how fast speed limit in there or whatever.

Right.

Someone flying by me doing nine and I get to the stop sign at the end of the road.

It says caution, elderly driver.

And then another sticker says caution, slow driver.

Like what?

So who passed you?

It wasn't elderly.

It was not an elderly woman.

All right.

She had to be in her mid twenties.

How ironic going 20 miles through the complex.

Pete Schwaba (host)

I think they need to need to bring the hammer down on some of those residents flying through because I've done that in this parking garage over here where it's also eight.

There must have been a Green Bay City Council meeting where they said, all right, I think we can all agree eight miles per hour and parking lots.

Conrad

That's not Max.

Not

Pete Schwaba (host)

six.

They have done studies and data shows.

There are fewer accidents if the speed limit is eight.

All right, folks, lots of fun tonight.

It's a bar ban Friday night.

We got a great question.

What's your favorite sports related song?

No rules.

Just have fun with it.

Let us know.

And Emerson layman from the WBAY morning show.

And he is a killer pickleball player too.

And we're going to come out.

We're going to mentally exhaust Emerson tonight.

That's coming up next on Nightlight with Peach Waba on the Civic Media radio

Conrad

network.

I just wanna dance the night away

Pete Schwabba

This Friday edition, I'm Pete Schwabba.

Great to have you with me.

Here's Anna from Madison in the 608 said, Hi, Pete and Conrad, my favorite sports song is Enter Sandman by Metallica.

Is that the one that goes, do, do, do, do, do, do?

Is that the one that said, they go, exit light, enter night.

Is that,

Emerson Lehman

that was in

Pete Schwabba

Severance.

And it was really cool.

And I hadn't heard that song in 20 years.

You

Emerson Lehman

just sang it pretty well, though.

I was good at pipes, buddy.

I believe

Pete Schwabba

it.

Listen, pickleball's your thing.

I'm a crooner.

That's the voice of Emerson Lehman, who joins us now in the studio.

He is the host of the WBA Y Morning News Show and a great pickleball player.

We're going to get into all that.

It is great to have you here in the studio, as always.

I was so excited when I got the text from you saying, hey, let's have you on to talk about Marinette.

Absolutely, my friend.

I'm always happy to be here.

And you were so gracious, like I asked you.

About you know, and you said you've been there many times actually

Emerson Lehman

I was trying to think about that after we after we talked I think that was my fourth or fifth time up there out of the seven tournaments that they've done So yeah, I've been there.

I I remember my first trip up there I was working down in Milwaukee and I drove up on a Friday night to play singles and drove back that Wow and Brian and Kim Swenson who run the tournament they just left an incredible impression on me

from that one trip.

And then now I get to see them weekly playing in the groups around Green Bay.

So yeah, great people, great tournament, always a fun time.

Pete Schwabba

So you said that the other day, too, when I was interviewing you, you said you'd drive up from Milwaukee.

That's like serious dedication to the sport.

Emerson Lehman

Probably too much dedication at some points.

But sometimes I joke that I should say I'm a part time news anchor full time pickleballer.

It does not pay the bills, however, so we gotta stick with the day job.

But it's just fun and you meet so many really cool people who I enjoy spending time with.

So you're getting active, you're kind of scratching that competitive itch and hanging out with some really fantastic individuals.

You can't beat it.

I thought I was

Pete Schwabba

when I

Emerson Lehman

first

Pete Schwabba

got there the other day.

I thought, you know, I asked a couple of people and they knew you.

They said, oh, are you here to talk to Emerson?

I was like, my god, this guy's like Bono here at the Marinette

Rec

Center.

No, they know Nightlight.

They know

Pichuava.

That's what it

is.

Well, one of them happened to be one of your partners.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah.

OK, that makes

Pete Schwabba

sense.

But seriously, how many of the people, there had to be a couple hundred?

Emerson Lehman

Oh, yeah, there was 260 players signed up for the tournament side.

Just in Marinette.

I imagine.

Just, yeah, in Marinette.

I mean, it's a.

Marinette's kind of a melting pot of pickleball in the Midwest where there were people coming from the up Down toward the Madison area a lot of Green Bay players were there some folks come over from wassa and ago They all just kind of come into that northeast corner and

Have a great weekend of fun.

Pete Schwabba

It's great.

And you know how what a small town guy I am now, like I've spent most of my life in big cities, but like when I drive to the rec center in Marinette and there's a camping show or a pickleball and I see how crowded the parking lot is and I go, ah, come

on.

I have to walk an

extra hundred feet.

Emerson Lehman

I know

Pete Schwabba

nothing.

You know what I mean?

But I still I'm so used to being in a small town where I can park 20 feet from the door.

Emerson Lehman

Agreed.

Yeah.

You had to get your steps in on Saturday.

Pete Schwabba

Exactly.

Let's talk about that.

So let's jump right in.

Let's start with pickleball.

How did you do?

Emerson Lehman

I got third overall.

Oh, yeah.

So we were I played in the top division and mixed on Friday and then the top division and men's on Saturday, third and both.

So shout out to my partners, Carolyn and JJ.

We kept the podium streak alive this year, which is good.

I haven't played a tournament and not meddled yet this year.

So that's fun.

I was thinking about that the other day, slight flex, but that's it's been it's been a good 20, 25 so far.

Pete Schwabba

So you joked about pickleball being full-time Newscasting being part-time.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah,

Pete Schwabba

that's a joke cuz that but you're third and I interviewed a guy there Zach Zach honoring honoring who someone Connected me with Greg van der Finn connected me with him and I interviewed him and got to talk to him He's got sponsors.

Yeah,

Emerson Lehman

you're

Pete Schwabba

third.

Yeah, not that far away like you could maybe so

Emerson Lehman

I

Pete Schwabba

make

Emerson Lehman

the jump we know I don't like it Zach plays so much

all the time.

He's going to school, but he's able to just commit right now at his point in his life.

Maybe if I was five years younger and

Pete Schwabba

at a

Emerson Lehman

different point, like just getting out of school or something, I would maybe consider it because I would dedicate more time, but it's just a fun competitive hobby for me.

I enjoy it.

I enjoy kind of being an ambassador for it and trying to get more people into

Pete Schwabba

it

Emerson Lehman

because it's changed my life for the better, I would say.

Gets me active, gets me out there.

again, has introduced me to some just incredible people.

And it's just cool to see people who maybe would be sitting at home on the couch.

Now they're out there being active, being competitive, having fun.

And that's what it's all about, right?

Pete Schwabba

And just

Emerson Lehman

making memories and enjoying cool experiences going to different places.

Yeah, but I will not be going pro.

Some of my co anchors will joke with me sometimes on the air when they're behind the scenes, too.

Oh, you won again this week and you're going to be leaving us like.

It's not happening, but it's really fun to play against people like Zach.

On Saturday, we beat him in the round robin portion.

So that

Pete Schwabba

was like, that was

Emerson Lehman

sick.

That was cool.

And then they, we ended up facing him in the semifinals, which no offense to the second place team.

I think people kind of looked at that.

Okay, this is going to be the championship match because they beat us 11 to nine and then went and won like 15 to two in the championship.

So it was.

So

Pete Schwabba

that was we gave

Emerson Lehman

him we gave him a fight and it's always fun to play against him.

I'll get to play against him again tomorrow and I'm sure he'll make us work for every point like he always does.

But it's it's cool to have someone chasing that pro dream from Northeast Wisconsin and representing it.

And a lot of folks came out wanting to see him play.

So we at least nice.

We didn't let him walk over us.

We gave him a good match to watch.

So where is he from?

Zach's from Oconto, I believe.

Pete Schwabba

Oh, so he's in northeast.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah, he's in northeast through and through exactly.

He went to Bayport High School.

He's yeah, he's from here.

Pete Schwabba

So let's back up just for a second.

We had a text or Tyler who didn't know much about pickleball.

Okay.

So for the people listening right now who, you know, sometimes they take for granted people have at least heard of it, but some people might not have.

So you say you and your partner, do you ever play pickleball folks is like a cross between tennis?

Table tennis and badminton.

Yeah, I would

Emerson Lehman

say like tennis badminton and ping pong kind of all combined together, right?

There's some Interesting rules that take a little bit.

I always tell people when they're trying to learn the the main rules that you need to be able to play the game properly it takes probably A half hour to an hour to really kind of comprehend those rules and the scoring because the scoring is a little wonky as well,

Pete Schwabba

but

Emerson Lehman

once you understand that and

keep playing.

Then after that, it's easy.

And then you're just starting to learn the different aspects of the game that can make you better.

But you got to kind of commit to that first half hour to an hour of knowing this is going to seem super weird, super random, all kinds of different.

Oh, you can't step there or you

Pete Schwabba

can't

Emerson Lehman

hit the ball here.

But once you figure that out, it's it kind of becomes a second nature and then you're you're off to the races

Pete Schwabba

from there.

My guest is Emerson Layman.

You can see his fine work at WBAY every morning here in Green Bay.

He is also an avid pickleball player.

We're talking about pickleball.

He was just in a tournament in Marinette and took third out of like 260 people.

You talk about your partner.

Is it ever one-on-one pickleball or is it always

Emerson Lehman

partner?

Yeah.

So there's singles as well.

I dabble in singles.

It is exhausting.

Um,

Pete Schwabba

but

Emerson Lehman

it's, it's a fun workout.

I'm not horrible at it.

I was a singles tennis player.

So, okay.

That's, I would say singles pickleball is a little more similar to tennis in terms of strategy and what you're doing.

It's a lot more about power and whatnot where doubles is more about placement and, uh, kind of the slow games, speeding it up.

It's more of a chess match where singles is just, I'm going to try and hit it past you as hard as I can and hope you don't hit it back sort of deal.

So it's, it's different.

It's, it's a different type of game, a different type of workout, but yeah.

if I'm playing pickleball, I'm happy.

So I'll play any type of tournament I can find.

Pete Schwabba

What kind of workout is it?

Because it's a condensed court compared to tennis.

And I've played.

My mom used to set up a pickleball court in their driveway 12 years ago, maybe.

Emerson Lehman

Back before it was

Pete Schwabba

cool.

Before it was cool.

And we got into it.

It was fun.

But their driveway was a little bit on a slant.

So if you were on the downside.

Emerson Lehman

You had to choose one

Pete Schwabba

side was better, yeah.

And I thought it was you're being active, but are you getting a workout?

Are you getting like a cardiovascular?

Probably when you play good players

Emerson Lehman

I think when you play good players with long points.

I mean if you're playing Kind of you know, just tapping the ball over back and forth and okay You hit it three times and points done, but I mean yeah, we'll play rallies where you're it's going back and forth 30 40 times and you're just kidding constantly moving side to side front and back You know, you're just constantly moving keeping your feet moving.

It's it's

quite the workout.

Pete Schwabba

And it's

Emerson Lehman

it's

Pete Schwabba

really sweet when you get with a ball when you can really crush it.

Because even when you crush it, it's not like it's not like a baseball come in 90 miles an hour, but you get that that wood on the on the ball.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah,

Pete Schwabba

because it's a wiffle ball,

Emerson Lehman

right?

It's like a plastic wiffle ball.

The the paddles are not so much wood anymore.

They're made, you know, some of them are with like honeycomb type, some of them are more composite type paddles.

They're

Making progress in terms of the technology

Pete Schwabba

when it comes to that.

Yeah

Emerson Lehman

paddle technology But yeah, there's no better feeling especially after like a really long point and you finally see that one ball that you just you know, you're about to

Pete Schwabba

end it with

Emerson Lehman

it and No worse feeling when you see that ball and you smoke it in the net or hit it on a bounce But when you when you hit that winner, it's a yeah, it's a pretty magical feeling I'd say so Zach

Pete Schwabba

gonering the pro won the whole thing

Emerson Lehman

he did

Pete Schwabba

team do you have?

All right, so how do you you lost 11 to 9?

to

Emerson Lehman

them in the semifinals.

Yes, we beat them.

I think it was eleven seven in the round robin seating.

So

Pete Schwabba

so how how does your partner stack up and how does his partner stack up?

Like when you guys faced off, are you losing anything partner to partner?

You guys about

Emerson Lehman

know, I would say very evenly matched.

So Zach's partner on Saturday, Quinn Thompson, he does a lot of coaching actually in the Green Bay area and he's.

one of, he's a very highly respected player.

My partner, JJ Fila, he's from the UP.

He and I have played, this was our third tournament together.

We played the PPA tournament in Minnesota last year, our first time together and we got third.

And then we won in Green Bay about a month ago.

And then this one, we were able to get third.

We mesh pretty well together.

Yeah.

Yeah, I would say it was fairly evenly matched.

I think I was actually talking to Quinn and Zach yesterday.

when we were playing and they they were.

I think I don't want to say threatened by us, but we they said we played them the best because we actually kept Zach involved.

Pete Schwabba

A lot of

Emerson Lehman

people will see all the pro.

We don't want to hit him the ball, but we kept him involved and kind of wanted to keep it unpredictable with him and not let him know what was coming.

And he doesn't get to control the game as much

Pete Schwabba

then.

Emerson Lehman

So, you know, he's so

Pete Schwabba

good and so

Emerson Lehman

fast that you can try and avoid him, but he's just going to be more aggressive with that and still.

take up 80% of the court and get to every ball.

And then he's

Pete Schwabba

kind of,

Emerson Lehman

if I remember,

Pete Schwabba

he's kind of a

Emerson Lehman

tall guy, right?

Yeah, I

Pete Schwabba

mean, he was a good

Emerson Lehman

basketball player

Pete Schwabba

in high

Emerson Lehman

school.

He's very athletic, very agile.

So instead of trying to avoid him and then watching him just carve us up, we tried to keep him involved, go right at him.

And it worked one of the times, but it's very tough to beat a good team twice.

And that was

the case.

We just they beat us when it counted.

We beat him when it didn't matter.

So that's how it goes.

But you always

Pete Schwabba

have that thing you can fall back on where you're like, I'm a news anchor.

And you beat me by two.

Emerson Lehman

Listen, listen, try, junior.

No, tons.

I have so much respect for Zach and the work he puts in.

And like I said, it's just the other day.

Yeah, he it's fun to play against really good people who he plays against.

Better people and so to see the skills that he has and to Try and take away a few things from him every time you're on the court and learn from that I mean yeah, yeah, you could come in and say oh you're some 21 year old I'm whatever right I'm but I try and learn from anybody in anything right you can always learn from someone else and Yeah, it's cool to play against him.

That's awesome.

Pete Schwabba

And there's nothing worse than like

like I have two brothers one is six seven the other one is six four

Emerson Lehman

I'm gonna

Pete Schwabba

run to the litter I'm the oldest I remember playing tennis against my brother I was probably 25 and he was like 24 and he's so tall and he didn't even like I'm working my butt off I'm running and running he's wearing jeans and he's pulling them up in between shots I'm like

He beat me and after I'm sweating like crazy.

And I said, can you at least next time we're a belt act like not humiliate

Emerson Lehman

a little bit here, man.

It's

Pete Schwabba

just awful.

All right.

So Emerson layman is here.

We have a we have a pickleball quiz.

Are you game?

I'm game.

I'm nervous,

Emerson Lehman

but I'm game.

Pete Schwabba

We're ready to rock.

You have nothing.

Listen, you played a pro to within two points.

This this will be a walk in the park.

Emerson Lehman

We'll

Pete Schwabba

see.

All right, Emerson Layman, WBAY Morning Show anchor, hanging out with us here at Night Light in the studio.

We always have so much fun.

We're coming right back to give him the pickleball quiz.

It's Peach Waba and Night Light on the Civic Media Radio

Network.

I'll follow your dream back.

Peach Waba (host)

Great to have you with me.

It's a Friday night edition.

We are barreling toward the weekend, folks.

We've got so much show still coming up.

Emerson Lehman is here.

It's a bar ban Friday night.

Terry Bar will be here shortly with new tunes and great chat.

Emerson Lehman is here in the studio.

We always have a blast with our pal Emerson.

He, okay, so I knew we'd get, I was hoping we'd get a pickleball related text.

This is Conrad's dad actually, so.

Shout out Conrad's dad.

Absolutely.

Pete, where Paula and I now live in Florida,

Oh boy is at on top of the world in Ocala The top three activities are one golf 318 whole courses to pickle ball pickle ball 27 courts And three softball Wow, that's interesting surprisingly the most injuries occur playing pickle ball, but I'll stick to golf at the time being okay, Steve Yeah, I could see that.

I mean golf is you're playing golf.

You're doing something wrong

Emerson Lehman (guest)

Yeah, and I talked we've actually done some stories on pickle ball injuries and

the problem with it is some of the folks that pick up pickleball they haven't done anything athletic in like 20 years and then they like oh I'm kind of good at this and they take off and you know you trip and maybe they don't have the the strength to catch themselves like they used to and they're the dexterity busting wrists or you know knees it's yeah it's quite the

It's keeping orthopedic surgeons busy, I think.

Peach Waba (host)

And I don't know, like we played Frisbee Ultimate several years ago where I live with this little community.

We have a community field and it was right before COVID.

And we played into COVID because it was kind of COVID friendly.

And you know, I'm not as young as I used to be.

but you get out there and it's like you think you're in high school again.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

Yeah.

Peach Waba (host)

No, no, no, I'm going to dominate.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

It's like, no, you're not.

Yeah, don't get me wrong.

Young people playing can get hurt as well playing pickleball.

But I think it's just the I don't want to jinx anything here.

I got to play a tournament tomorrow.

But yeah, it's yeah, I think it's just that that competitive nature in everybody.

Everybody's got a little bit of competitive edge in them.

I feel like and when you're finding something that you're halfway decent at, it comes out really fast and you got to kind of keep yourself in reality.

Is there a trash talking ever?

Oh, so much.

Oh, really?

So much.

Yeah.

Peach Waba (host)

Oh, God, I love this even more

Emerson Lehman (guest)

now.

Yeah.

Zach and I had a good little chat going during our finals match.

Really?

Is it good natured, or is it?

Is there a little heat?

I had to go up to him afterwards and give him a hug and be like, hey, buddy, you know, we're cool.

Like, it's all right.

We're good.

Yeah, it's.

Oh my gosh, that's hilarious.

Yeah, and we're playing for a $3 medal.

Is it necessary absolutely not but

Peach Waba (host)

but you just said you've got 40 people around the court in Marinette, Wisconsin on a Saturday afternoon.

Yeah, so It's intense.

You

Emerson Lehman (guest)

just you get that That competitive spirit and yeah when you're doing something and you're you're throwing that effort and you're You're giving that effort and you want to you want to win and sometimes the emotions get the best of you, but now as long as as long as you leave

Friendly with your friends.

I think that's good.

But when you're on the court, you're competing.

So that's that's how it is.

All right

Peach Waba (host)

So Emerson Lehman is here.

He is one of the anchors of the WBA WBA Y. See I get that award thing mixed up WBA Y.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

You got it.

Peach Waba (host)

Yeah morning show.

You going to the WBAs?

Emerson Lehman (guest)

I don't want to throw you in the spot.

Well,

Peach Waba (host)

we had to submit a bunch of stuff, but They just sent back something a file an audio file and

Emerson Lehman (guest)

they're

Peach Waba (host)

laughing.

Oh

No, I'm just kidding.

Which is good.

We enjoy a laugh.

Make a laugh track out of it.

But we want to give you this quiz.

Just pick

Emerson Lehman (guest)

one.

I'm ready.

I'm ready

Peach Waba (host)

to do that.

OK.

So Emerson Layman, we got the bell or no?

W-B-A-Y.

We got, oh, buddy, we've upgraded.

OK.

Here

Emerson Lehman (guest)

we go.

Peach Waba (host)

Oh, boy.

Wow.

That's

Emerson Lehman (guest)

loud.

I may have turned it up just a little

Peach Waba (host)

bit.

Alright, so

Emerson Lehman (guest)

how many

Peach Waba (host)

questions and is it multiple choice?

Emerson Lehman (guest)

It is multiple choice.

There are ten questions.

Alright, here we go.

We may have

Peach Waba (host)

to continue this in the other side of the news, but I think we should get started here because this is a great quiz, alright?

You ready?

Yep.

Nightlight pickleball quiz, Emerson Layman contestant.

What year was pickleball invented?

1965.

Oh, he

Emerson Lehman (guest)

didn't

Peach Waba (host)

even need.

I guess I gotta activate the pen.

Okay,

Emerson Lehman (guest)

number

Peach Waba (host)

two.

Where did the name pickleball come from?

It was first played with pickles as a paddle.

A, I can't really came up with this, by the way.

B, named after the inventor's dog Pickles.

C, named after Olympic champ pickleball slacks McGee.

D, the guy who invented it, ate pickles while playing.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

I'm going to question your authenticity on this quiz Conrad, but I'm going to go with B for this answer.

Correct you I don't think that's totally accurate, but that's fine.

I could believe it though Yeah,

Peach Waba (host)

yeah, that's what

Emerson Lehman (guest)

that might be part of it.

Yeah, that

Peach Waba (host)

might be part of it Does it sound probable?

Emerson Lehman (guest)

It

Peach Waba (host)

sounds good two for two number three What long how long I think you meant how long is the pickleball court?

Is it a 100 by 100 B 60 by 20 C 20 by 44 D 5 by 5 feet 20 by 44 3 for 3

Emerson Lehman (guest)

I was you think I'd play this sometimes, you know Watch the next time the next seven.

I'm going down.

It's gonna be horrible

Peach Waba (host)

C Number four.

What is the kitchen and pickleball?

Is it a the area near the net B where you wash your water bottles C middle of the court D the area where you serve

Emerson Lehman (guest)

That's where you wash your water bottles.

I'm kidding.

I'm kidding.

It's staring by the net Yeah, he dinged it before I even had the answer.

He knew I think you guys

Peach Waba (host)

are in cahoots really I think

Emerson Lehman (guest)

no you

The water bottle thing, that's totally correct.

I

Peach Waba (host)

just washed my water bottle in the kitchen today.

Number five, can you serve overhand?

A, yes.

B, yes only after gaining a point.

C, no.

D, sometimes only if you are down 11 points.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

I mean, yeah, it's no.

It is correct.

It is a no go.

I kind of like that.

I should have been able to serve overhead against Zach and maybe we would have had better luck next time.

I think we're up for a real change.

We can get one more of these in before

Peach Waba (host)

the news.

All right, you got that one too.

Five for five, buddy.

Emerson Lehman (guest)

Here we go.

Peach Waba (host)

Great.

Number six, what sport is pickleball combined with?

A, baseball, soccer, and F1 racing.

B, football, golf, and water polo.

C, volleyball, tennis, and high diving.

D, tennis, badminton, and table tennis.

We'll

Emerson Lehman (guest)

go

Peach Waba (host)

D. We already talked about that.

What happened?

Emerson Lehman (guest)

I wanted to switch it

Peach Waba (host)

up.

Oh, I don't like that.

You

Emerson Lehman (guest)

made me feel like

Peach Waba (host)

I had it wrong for a second.

It's like total de-escalation.

All right.

Emerson Layman is here.

We're going to finish our pickleball quiz after the news, and we've got another fun game to play with him, too.

You're here on a great night, folks, and it's a barman Friday night.

It's Peach Waba and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Pete Chwaba

Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay.

This is Night Light with Pete Chwaba.

Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.

And now a guy who never leaves the house without wearing a cup.

Pete Chwaba.

Conrad

Listen, if you're playing pickleball, you wear a cup during pickleball?

Do

Emerson Layman

you ever take one of the seeds?

I have not worn a cup.

I yes to the second question And then you're wishing you had but yeah, if you got to watch out man, you got a fast man's especially when you're standing at the kitchen line

Conrad

Washing washing your water bottles.

We were just talking about wiffle ball I took and they put tape on the wiffle balls when we would fast pitch them

Emerson Layman

Yeah, I

Conrad

took one right in the cheek and they're coming in at 90 miles an hour.

Emerson Layman

Oh, do I wear glasses?

Conrad

I work

I

Emerson Layman

gotta be able to see for my job man.

I'm not taking a yeah with a bowl off the face and Yeah, no, no, thanks.

I'm good.

You

Conrad

can't show up doing the news of the big shiner

Emerson Layman

big black eye.

Conrad

Yeah Leon from Oshkosh in the last hour.

That's the that's the 9 2 0.

He says enter Sandman by Motorhead.

That's the one used by the Sandman in ECW, which is wrestling and when Rich Locasio is on next week

We'll ask him about that, because

Pete Chwaba

I think

Conrad

I need some intro music, too, for my wrestling

Pete Chwaba

character.

There we go.

I

Emerson Layman

could

Conrad

see you being a wrestler.

Pete Chwaba

Could you see

Conrad

that?

Yeah.

I could see me losing.

I mean, but still stepping in the ring.

That's all that matters.

Here's the thing about fighting.

You could always get a lucky shot in.

You never know.

Yeah.

It's anybody's game.

So quick little elbow and you're it's a whole different whole different situation.

Emerson Layman

Not

Conrad

with me and wrestling.

All right.

Folks, our question of the night is what is your favorite sports related song?

We've heard we are the champions.

We will rock you.

Glory days.

We've got the Sandman Jump Around is another big one.

Conrad's favorite was Bang in the Drum.

Emerson Layman

Back home again in Indiana.

What's that one?

They sing it before the Indy 500 every year.

Oh, yeah.

OK, which is next month.

Very excited.

And yeah, it is the year after covid when.

fans weren't allowed in the stands.

I think I almost cried during Back Home Again in Indiana when I

Pete Chwaba

was back there again.

I

Emerson Layman

was like fighting back the tears.

It's my favorite day of the year.

So yeah, that's a good one.

Conrad

So that's a new one.

We haven't heard

Emerson Layman

that one yet.

That's probably won't hear that one again from everybody.

Conrad

Listen, any sport too.

I mean, there are no rules to any time we do our question of the night, but that's great.

Okay, so.

Share your favorite sports-related song.

It's a Bar Band Friday night.

Terry Barr will be here at 7.35.

She's got two great artists, too.

I heard both the songs.

Well, one is a song, the other one's like a half a song.

Pete Chwaba

Yeah, both great.

Conrad

Both outstanding.

And Terry is so much fun to talk to.

So right now, we are in the throes of another fun segment here with our guest, Emerson Layman.

I need, what, four more to be perfect?

You need, yeah, you're six for six, right, Conrad?

Yeah, six for six.

Yep.

And you got the no more bell though.

I think we move past the bell, right?

We're in the big leagues now.

Okay.

Pete Chwaba

Give us give us the kind of look disappointed

Conrad

about that.

It's he hasn't been He hasn't had to do the which is obnoxious

because you turned it down last

Pete Chwaba

night that my

Conrad

ears are bleeding.

All right, so Emerson Lehman, we're gonna finish the quiz.

He's got four more questions.

He's six for six in our nightlight pickleball quiz.

Here's number seven.

Who is currently ranked number one in men's singles in the PPA?

Do you need to hear the options?

I'm gonna need the

Emerson Layman

options for this

Conrad

one.

A, you're gonna get this so easily.

A, Con the Brute Krieger.

D, Federico...

I'm

Emerson Layman

pretty sure that's the answer but I want to hear the other ones.

Conrad

See Pete the Snail Schwabba or D. Zane Ford?

I'm still going to go Spedereco.

Like how Conrad gave himself a cool nickname the brute the last time I asked him to do I feel bad I made Conrad do extra

Emerson Layman

work on a Friday,

Conrad

but no, that's all right We like our quizzes number eight.

What is pickleball played to a 21 b7c 50 dear god or d11 that would be a lot

Emerson Layman

I didn't even answer

Conrad

Conrad

Eight for eight, crushing it.

Number nine, what was the original purpose of pickleball?

A, another addition to four school sports.

B, tennis is a big game, so they cut it in half.

Fair, honestly fair.

You have to at least

Emerson Layman

make it sound like it's from an actual rule code read.

Conrad

C, summer activity for kids.

Or D, a game so adults can drink and play.

Emerson Layman

It was the...

So the owners or the owners the founders of it they wanted to keep their kids busy So I'm gonna say it was the the kids answer see

Conrad

yeah You gotta keep kids busy.

Emerson Layman

They

Conrad

can't sell drugs all day.

You gotta

Emerson Layman

have another out You

Conrad

want

Emerson Layman

to give them better more positive outlets in the world?

Yes.

All right, so nine for nine, buddy.

I I feel proud I shouldn't though because some of these ones have been gimme's.

Thank you Conrad.

I appreciate it Let's see what's get number 10.

I have a feeling

Conrad

you're gonna get this one number 10

Where was pickleball invented?

Was it A, Key Wascom, Wisconsin?

B, Bainbridge Island, Washington.

That one.

Feel free, Congress.

Emerson Layman

I wanted the other answer, too, you know?

One of the other ones, yeah.

We took the powder.

Conrad

C, Bushwood Coffee Club.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir.

And D, Gotham, Wisconsin.

Is that a town?

Emerson Layman

Yeah.

OK.

Yeah, no, Washington gets that one.

I want to go out there.

I want to see the island like they have the like original court

Pete Chwaba

Do they

Emerson Layman

assign there?

Yeah, I want to go out there.

That's on the on the bucket list It's like a statue of Tommy Bainbridge looking over the pickleball court

Conrad

like with a paddle in hand ready to go.

Yeah Wooden paddle old school All right, do we have a parting gift we got to get some gifts

Pete Chwaba

There's some water in the fridge.

Conrad

Do we already blow through

Pete Chwaba

hydration hydration

Conrad

guy?

You're a big fan

We

Pete Chwaba

got a

Conrad

lot of pens, too.

We got pens, that's true.

This is awesome, dude.

You crushed our pickleball quiz 10 for 10.

10

Emerson Layman

for 10.

Conrad

Yeah.

And we didn't, honestly, we didn't know, like, what level, like, because you're a good pickleball player, but that doesn't mean you... That does not mean you know what's

Emerson Layman

going on.

I like to

Conrad

watch football.

I don't know.

Sometimes

Emerson Layman

these rules are my question.

I was a little... Yeah.

Because you're coming in, people expect, you know, you better go 10 out

Pete Chwaba

of

Emerson Layman

10.

Right.

That was, I was kind of set up for failure there.

If you get 10 out of 10, good.

You should have if you didn't.

Yeah, wow, dude, but you jumped in feet

Conrad

first.

So it's great.

So

Emerson Layman

like

Conrad

if that's something you didn't score perfectly on with your colleagues at WBA why I've given you a hard time.

Emerson Layman

My pickleball friends would have definitely given me a hard time because I know quite a few of them are listening in right now.

I had people send me a picture of you on their TV screen.

Shout out Tanya Valenta.

They're watching Nightlight up in Marinette right now.

So the hometown representing

Conrad

represent my homies.

So we've got a text from

PJ who says so pickleball can be a brutal sport note taken.

Yeah, PJ, but you don't want to scare people.

No, no, no come come hang out very welcoming Al from Madison says what was the answer to how did pickleball get its name?

I missed it.

Pete Chwaba

That

Emerson Layman

was a dog, right?

Yeah.

Well,

Conrad

there's two schools of thought.

Yeah.

Yeah, we'll go with Conrad's though.

I don't want to

Emerson Layman

guy named Steph on after his dog pickles.

Conrad

Yeah.

So he called the pickleball which makes let's be honest.

No sense at all.

I bet it was a great dog, but it's only a golden retriever.

He did his dog, bro.

Pickles lives on.

Oh, Conrad, what's that?

How do we say that name again?

This is Lilerve?

I'm sorry, Texter.

Lilerve on the stream says, queen, we are the champions.

Were you looking out the window like you thought I was talking about someone passing by or what?

All right, Emerson Layman is here, folks.

He is one of the hosts of the WBAY morning show here in Green Bay.

He does great work.

You've worked in Milwaukee before that.

You're a staple in the community now, and this is pretty cool.

You've got this new segment that you do that you

Emerson Layman

took

Conrad

over, Small Towns with Emerson Layman.

What's

Emerson Layman

come up on that?

Yeah, really been enjoying that.

It's been quite the journey after taking over in January.

You got to meet some really incredible people.

Share some cool stories so far coming up.

So this coming week is draft week So I'm gonna be showcasing actually staying right here in Green Bay.

Usually we

Pete Chwaba

haven't done a

Emerson Layman

small towns Green Bay, but you know compared to a lot of other cities in the in the nation Green Bay is pretty small So yeah gonna be highlighting the automobile gallery the Bart Starr MVP car That's on display there for folks that can go check it out doing the draft.

That's really a really neat piece of NFL history Packers history.

So really cool to share that we actually

did a story on the Marinette Pickleball Tournament, the people who run

Pete Chwaba

it.

So we

Emerson Layman

had the TV crew out there before you showed up on Saturday.

And so that's going to be airing May 1st, I believe that's the Thursday that week.

So

Pete Chwaba

the week

Emerson Layman

after the draft, really looking forward to sharing that one.

And yeah, just some really cool stories coming up this summer too that I'm really excited to share.

But it's so fun for me being from a small town to be able to go

Pete Chwaba

out to all

Emerson Layman

these other communities and just seeing the passion and the pride that they have in

the different events, the different people, the different nonprofits that make up these communities and make them so special to be able to shine a spotlight on that and let, you know...

Tens of thousands of people get to learn about it and hopefully bring more awareness to it.

That's a pretty big privilege.

So I enjoy it.

Conrad

Where are you at now?

You're from a small town, like you just said.

And you've lived in bigger cities now.

Is that something like, are you ever going back to the small town?

Or are you kind of like, I like the vibe in the city.

You're still a young guy.

Emerson Layman

You've got

Conrad

tons of time to figure it

Emerson Layman

out.

Yeah, I'm kind of just, I'm very much a go with the flow kind of thing.

Really enjoyed living in wasa that was my first job out of college and that's a fair It's a growing community smaller than Green Bay or Milwaukee I went to Milwaukee lived in the city and absolutely loved that Really enjoyed being here in Green Bay and kind of the the change in pace it is

Pete Chwaba

here.

So I

Emerson Layman

just you know Go with the flow see what kind of opportunities are presented to me and I'm never one to not at least explore an opportunity or see

hear things out, but I love being here in Green Bay.

I've really, really enjoyed, honestly, enjoyed living here more than I was expecting to.

So

Pete Chwaba

it's

Emerson Layman

been, this is a really cool city.

I recommended to a lot of people, I try and get friends to come and visit.

So I see myself being here for a while.

Conrad

And

Emerson Layman

you live only an

Conrad

hour from Marinette.

which you probably didn't anticipate.

Emerson Layman

Even better.

Yeah, I don't have to drive three hours to play one tournament and drive back again.

So

Conrad

that's great.

So what's going on with the draft?

How does that affect your

Emerson Layman

job?

So excited for the draft, man.

I'm so pumped.

So we're actually going to be live out at the Great North Commons next week, amplified by Bell and Health Studio at the Great North Commons.

We're going to be broadcasting our morning show live out there.

weather permitting, uh, but we've got some contingencies in place.

Hopefully so Monday through Friday of next week, my co anchor, Tammy Elliott, and then I will, we'll be out there.

Uh, we're going to have some live guests coming on, just getting Green Bay excited, right?

Draft weeks here.

It's six days, five and a half days away now, right?

We're pumped, man.

It's going

Pete Chwaba

to be

Emerson Layman

the biggest event this city has ever seen.

I was in Detroit

Pete Chwaba

last year

Emerson Layman

and I don't think people understand how huge this is.

Like it is going to be just remarkable.

The

the experience for people.

I mean, my family's coming up next weekend to come experience it.

It'll be fun to have some of them in town.

Go hang out with some friends out there, too.

But it's going to be a very busy, busy work week, but it's going to be a fun work week.

So really, really excited for that.

People should definitely tune into Action 2 News this morning and Action 2 News throughout the draft because

Pete Chwaba

we'll

Emerson Layman

have our evening team out there, too.

There's just going to be a lot of really cool coverage.

That sounds like a blot.

That's like one of those events, too.

You're excited, probably, more than other things sometimes.

Yeah, I'm already excited for work on Monday morning.

Let's get this rolling, man.

It's going to be great.

Conrad

All right, Emerson is here.

Can we keep you for another

Emerson Layman

set?

Do you want to take

Conrad

another quiz?

I'm ready for

Emerson Layman

it.

Let's go.

I promise it'll be perfect again.

He's

Conrad

going to take our quiz called This Just In or This Just In.

where he has to decide if it's a real news story or if it's coming up next with our pal Emerson here on Nightlight with Peach Waba on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Unknown Speaker

Honey, you are my shining star.

Don't you go away.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

Just talking about Dan Shaper, and he is going to come on the show probably the next few weeks, and we're going to have a little wire discussion about the show, the wire.

And that will be fun.

And I highly recommend that show.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

I need to watch it.

I've heard

Pete Schwabba (Host)

that from a few people now.

It's great.

This is Nightlight with Pete Schwabba.

Welcome back.

Emerson Lehman is here.

We've got Emerson for a few more or you can stay the whole time if you want I don't know if you have plans.

You're kind of a man about town We'll get through this next quiz.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

We

Pete Schwabba (Host)

won't kick you out We've got seven more quizzes for Emerson tonight folks.

So seven more quizzes.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

No, I'm kidding

Pete Schwabba (Host)

I thought I graduated I

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

barely graduated but I

Pete Schwabba (Host)

graduated

Unknown Speaker

it's

Pete Schwabba (Host)

a sleeping bag

All right, this is a game we came up with, and we'll send you out on a high note,

Unknown Speaker

because I think

Pete Schwabba (Host)

at the very least, this will be fun.

Yeah, I like that.

It's called This Just In, or This Just In.

Did you write both of those in the title, like, This Just In question mark?

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

You did?

OK, perfect.

Yeah, that's great.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

Is this a real new story or fictitious?

All right, you ready?

Yep.

All right.

Emerson layman this is the first we're making radio history We've never given a quiz to the same person twice

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

twice in one show

Unknown Speaker

it seems

Pete Schwabba (Host)

like every night we make history all right, so number one Baseball player Bryce Harper recently used a blue bat as a gender reveal tactic

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

that is just

Pete Schwabba (Host)

in or this just in So this just in is the real yeah, this just in nice This is really emasculating

He's 11

Unknown Speaker

for

Pete Schwabba (Host)

11.

All right.

Number two, the Food and Drug Administration is planning to end its routine safety inspections.

This just in?

Or this just in?

This just in?

Question mark.

That is true, sadly.

He finally got one wrong.

Okay, well, oops.

They might outsource it to state and local officials, so.

But yeah, that

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

is it.

So it's not

Pete Schwabba (Host)

really ending, they're

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

outsourcing, okay, yeah.

The Food and Drug Administration is,

Pete Schwabba (Host)

I won't hit you with it.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

You want a challenge?

No, we're

Pete Schwabba (Host)

good.

I gotta be better.

All right, number three.

Emerson Layman got his first one wrong all night.

He's crushing these quizzes.

School children in Canada yesterday had a red, white, and blue water balloon fight at the end of the day in an effort to get the attention of their American schoolyard counterparts as a show of unity.

This just in.

Or this just in I

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

feel like it's way too cold right now in Canada to be having a water balloon fight This just in that is correct.

All right Actually, I wrote that question.

I'm

Pete Schwabba (Host)

like kind of his kind of cold

Context clues.

Yes, that's bad.

All right, so you got that one too.

All right, two for three so far.

Oh, I'm upset with myself.

That's all right.

Number four, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently revealed that part of the reason he is in such good shape despite his age is due to pickleball.

This just is.

And three jazz or size classes a week.

This just in.

Or this just in.

This just in.

All right.

I couldn't sell

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

you.

If you would have said anything but pickleball, I might have I might have Contemplated a little bit, but taking my mouth you're playing to your audience.

I appreciate

Pete Schwabba (Host)

that All right, so that one see three for four right yeah,

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

I'm

Pete Schwabba (Host)

mad about that second one, but that's

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

fine.

That's

Pete Schwabba (Host)

fine number five a helicopter flying over Warden Park in Detroit dropped hundreds of marshmallows to waiting children below who scooped them up eagerly this just in or this just in

I feel like that's weird enough that it would be real, so this just in.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

Marshmallows are the new Easter egg this year.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

Well, here's why I thought that was so crazy, but apparently my line was, don't worry folks, the marshmallows weren't for eating, they were just to be collected, and then they exchanged them for a prize.

Okay.

We can shake those home and die them, right?

Probably

Unknown Speaker

a

Pete Schwabba (Host)

sanitary marshmallow

Unknown Speaker

that they could eat, yeah.

Oh

Pete Schwabba (Host)

well.

So, that's good.

All right, so, wow.

SPEAKER_??

All right.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

Ready?

Yeah.

All right, we got three more.

Here

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

we

Pete Schwabba (Host)

go.

I think we can do this.

Let's, LFG.

Easter is a holiday celebrated by Christians all over the world, but it was recently revealed that the actual name Easter belonged to an early East Coast pilgrim practitioner named John David Easter.

This just in, or this just in.

This just in.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

Yeah,

Unknown Speaker

I think you

Pete Schwabba (Host)

got

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

it right

Pete Schwabba (Host)

I say he's right now.

I don't care

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

That one's fake all right that yeah, that's very

Pete Schwabba (Host)

good by the John David Easter.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

I easily easily and you sold that very well the way you read it, too Yeah, that was good.

Appreciate that.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

No,

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

I feel a little better good

All right,

Pete Schwabba (Host)

number,

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

we're gonna gas you

Pete Schwabba (Host)

up.

Number seven.

Five for six, correct?

No.

Five

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

for

Pete Schwabba (Host)

seven?

Five for seven, yeah.

Well, we're on number seven.

Then four for six.

Four for six, I'm sorry.

Okay.

Number seven, pseudo rapper, former pseudo rapper, Robert Van Winkle, also known as Vanilla Ice, is now in a sales position at a relax the back store in Detroit.

This just in, or this just in.

I hope it's this just

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

in.

I really do.

Is that your answer?

Yeah.

It's this just in?

I can see it.

Ice-sized baby making it in the business world?

Yeah, he's gotta make it work, man.

He just kind of saunters and does his moves around the store.

I'd buy a chair from him.

I would, too.

Yeah, absolutely.

That could be successful.

And

Pete Schwabba (Host)

as much of a laughingstock as he was back in the day, like, his, that song is sampled so much.

Yeah.

And it's kind of cool.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

He's

Pete Schwabba (Host)

got to be just, yeah, he's making.

I

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

would think

Pete Schwabba (Host)

although he sampled it from under pressure So

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

true.

Pete Schwabba (Host)

It's not like it's an original piece.

All right Number eight final question for our pal Emerson layman a court in the UK recently found six men guilty of stealing a cold toilet

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

This just in this just in

Pete Schwabba (Host)

this just in that is correct And not a high note in a related story one of Donald Trump's toilets is missing.

All right.

Hey great job

Hey,

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

we ended it on a positive.

I think so too.

Always a pleasure being here and really appreciate

Pete Schwabba (Host)

you guys.

This is fun.

Good luck with Small Towns.

Emerson Lehman (Guest)

Thank you very much.

You're going

Pete Schwabba (Host)

to crush the draft, crush it tomorrow with pickleball.

I'm kind of in awe of you, I'm going to be honest.

It's always a pleasure, my friend.

Always a blast.

Emerson Lehman, ladies and gentlemen, when we come back after the news, we'll read more of your texts about what your favorites are.

Sports related song is and then we will have terry bar here for bar ban Friday night It's nightlight with peach waba on the civic media radio

Unknown Speaker

network

Announcer

Time to check out original music with bar band Friday on nightlight now your host peach wabba and special guest Terry bar

Peach Wabba (host)

Another fun Friday here at night like great to have you with me.

I am peach wabba

We are in our last, it's the fourth quarter, ladies and gentlemen, of a long week and a great show because it's a Barbie on Friday night.

And that can only mean one thing.

Our pal, Terry Barr brings new music and killer conversation.

How are you, Terry?

Terry Barr (guest)

Hello, Peachwaba.

How are you?

I'm good.

Thank you.

Peach Wabba (host)

I'm so glad to hear that.

I'm excited to have you here.

Was it just last week?

No, two weeks ago.

We were in Madison live.

You were in the studio

Terry Barr (guest)

with you two weeks ago already.

Yeah.

Peach Wabba (host)

Time flies.

Okay.

Terry Barr (guest)

So how are you?

Peach Wabba (host)

Yes.

Next week I'll be there.

Are we going to be able to line

Terry Barr (guest)

something up?

Do you think?

Oh, I think I can.

Peach Wabba (host)

Oh, I know you.

You're like, you got all the sweet hookups, you know, every person who plays an instrument

Terry Barr (guest)

in Wisconsin.

You do pretty all right yourself, young man.

Thanks

Peach Wabba (host)

to you when it comes to music, certainly.

Hey, speaking of music, do you have a favorite sports related song?

Terry Barr (guest)

Wow, you know, it's probably the typical that other people would say the jump around.

Peach Wabba (host)

Yeah.

Terry Barr (guest)

You know what comes to mind though, and I was thinking about this the other day with the stories I'm working on for the NFL Draft.

I remember when the Packers were gonna go to the Super Bowl in the 90s, and standing on the field because I worked for the Fox Station in Green Bay at that time, I think is at the Natalie Merchant Song, these are the days to remember that

Peach Wabba (host)

song.

Terry Barr (guest)

That song was blasting in Lambeau Field, and I locked eyes with none other than Reggie White.

Peach Wabba (host)

Oh,

Terry Barr (guest)

wow.

And he was just bouncing his head to the song.

And that's one of those I just think about him and that song as a beautiful sports moment.

I don't know if it's the music, but just a really cool moment.

That's a great story.

Peach Wabba (host)

Yeah.

You know what that reminds me of is when...

What I love about jump around that you just mentioned is when the other team on the sidelines, they're doing it too.

Like all the players are doing it.

Opposing team loves being at Camp Randall.

They're doing it.

Those moments in sports are just great.

And that moment you just shared, especially with Reggie White, who just by all

Terry Barr (guest)

accounts

Peach Wabba (host)

was such a great guy.

Great sports moment.

Terry Barr (guest)

Thank you, thank you for asking.

Yeah, do you have a favorite?

Peach Wabba (host)

I do.

Mine is I in the Sky.

When I was in my 20s doing stand-up in Chicago, I was part of a Chicago Bulls season ticket pack.

I got like six games a year with a bunch of guys, you know, and we

Terry Barr (guest)

would

Peach Wabba (host)

see, yeah, they would introduce Michael Jordan and they'd play I in the Sky by Alan Parsons' project with this spine-tingling music.

It was incredible.

That's mine.

And then jump around as a close second, I will say, and then bridge it on the text line of the 818 just said, when I forgot about Eye of the Tiger.

That's a big

Terry Barr (guest)

sports song too.

Yeah.

Peach Wabba (host)

Survivors.

So.

Terry Barr (guest)

Yes.

I forgot about that one too.

But oh, when that comes on, you know, everybody's going to move it around and yeah, grooving to it.

Peach Wabba (host)

Trying to get in shape.

Yeah.

Thanks.

And Conrad's is, uh, Conrad's is, uh, jumping the crowd.

What?

He just wants to bang on the drum all day.

Terry Barr (guest)

He has another pack.

Oh, there you go.

So

Peach Wabba (host)

you got that.

You got go pack go.

You got your, uh, I would not have equated Natalie Merchant or that's a great song, but I wouldn't have equated it with sports, but it was like the soundtrack to a great moment you had.

And I think that's spectacular.

Terry Barr (guest)

Well, and it was the buildup that season.

They were playing so well.

They made it all the way through the playoffs, and that was the last playoff game, and they're going to the Super Bowl.

Yeah.

And someone had that brilliant idea to play that song over the loudspeaker, and it just hit at the right moment.

Yeah.

Peach Wabba (host)

That's perfect.

All right, so, Barman Friday night.

Shall we dive right in?

You got a big

Terry Barr (guest)

show coming up tomorrow, too.

I love

Peach Wabba (host)

that both your songs you sent, you're going to also talk about tomorrow night on Maxingradio.

Terry Barr (guest)

Yes, we are it's gonna be a jam-packed show and I'm really looking forward to it We're starting to get back to some normalcy rockers feeling good You know for people who didn't know he had a heart attack in January, but he he's starting to rock it again So he was great and

Peach Wabba (host)

he was on the show a couple weeks ago Conrad and I were talking about he just sounds like his old self, you know, and he was

Terry Barr (guest)

a lot of fun

Peach Wabba (host)

to

Terry Barr (guest)

talk to

Peach Wabba (host)

Yeah, I agree.

It's great to see.

So this is kind of a cool band.

Should we start with PTO?

Sure, let's do

Terry Barr (guest)

it.

Power

Peach Wabba (host)

Takeoff.

Okay, so tell us all about Power Takeoff.

Terry Barr (guest)

This is a new band, but a very seasoned band.

Basically, everyone in this band has been in another project that has done really well.

The lead singer, Scotty Tice,

If you ever have heard of the Weisenheimer's hot, hot band out of Wisconsin in the 80s, 90s.

Peach Wabba (host)

Okay.

Terry Barr (guest)

Very popular.

They couldn't hold it together, though, which is, you know, always that disappointment.

Oh, they're breaking up.

Are you kidding?

Boo.

Well, he is the singer and his son is on drums.

And then we've got another young man, a son of a guitar player from another band is in this band.

And then you've got two other young guys who also have family that are musicians and other big bands.

So it's almost one of these all from different bands, from different families that have music connections.

And now they've come together to almost form this little super group.

Peach Wabba (host)

Wow, it's like the Wisconsin version of the traveling will berries, right?

Terry Barr (guest)

Oh gosh, I love those guys, but you're right This really is the song that you're going to hear is their first original new release and this song already hit number 29 on

this chart called the secondary market rock chart.

Okay.

And I guess to put it into perspective, Lincoln Park, the band has some new music out as well.

One of Lincoln Park songs is at number 24.

Oh,

Announcer

wow.

Terry Barr (guest)

This band song is rolling up and who knows what's going to happen.

Peach Wabba (host)

All right, well, why don't we the song is called Do You Want It's power take off.

And they can be heard tomorrow.

Are they going to play?

You said they're on

Terry Barr (guest)

eight o'clock.

They are going to play.

They're going to be with us from eight until nine o'clock.

So they will be live in the studio.

They're going to be jamming.

And we hope you will join us to have all the fun with us.

Peach Wabba (host)

Here is a little sample of what you can hear tomorrow night on MaxInc Radio at eight o'clock.

It's power takeoff.

And do you want to?

That's just straight up rock.

Terry Barr (guest)

It is.

And it's catchy, isn't it?

You can see why it might make it on the charts to radio play because you want to sing along to it once you know all the words.

Peach Wabba (host)

It's like I listened to it a couple times on the way down today and I love at the end when he says go out tonight with me like they go up.

It's just great energy.

And that's for those of you listening that didn't hear Terry before, that's father son, Scotty and Aiden, right?

And it says on their website, father and son, loud and proud, bringing the noise one stage at a time.

I love that.

Terry Barr (guest)

There you go.

And they're living up to it, which is awesome.

Peach Wabba (host)

So fun.

So tell us, where do they tour?

Are they just primarily, it looks like they spent a lot of time in Nashville, but are they kind of touring around Wisconsin a lot too?

Terry Barr (guest)

They are planning to this summer.

One of the first big shows that they're going to do is at Broadfest.

That's the big Memorial Day weekend music and Broadfestival in

Peach Wabba (host)

Manhattan.

Terry Barr (guest)

They are playing Friday, May 23rd, and they are going to be one of the openers for Ace Fraley, the original guitar player from KISS.

That's your guy.

Yeah.

This is going to be quite the night, that Friday night of Brot Fest in Madison.

Peach Wabba (host)

That's so fun.

Terry Barr is here, folks.

It's a bar band Friday night.

Tune in tomorrow night to her show Max, Inc Radio, where you can hear what we just heard at eight o'clock tomorrow night.

There's an interview.

with, on the website, it says PTO.

Do they go by that or power takeoff?

Do they prefer one or the other?

Terry Barr (guest)

You know, I think it's the PTO.

Peach Wabba (host)

Yeah.

Terry Barr (guest)

You say power takeoff and then you say PTO.

PTO just sticks too.

Yeah.

Kind of like words in that song.

Peach Wabba (host)

Well, when I was Googling them, I put in power takeoff and all this like hemi stuff came up for

Terry Barr (guest)

engines.

Peach Wabba (host)

I'm like, I don't think that's.

All right, so catch them tomorrow night with Terry Barr and Rocker on Maxink Radio.

And now tell us about Doosy.

This is kind of, this is fun.

Terry Barr (guest)

This is really fun.

This is a Rocker find, my co-host with Maxink Radio.

And he's been searching for this band for a couple of weeks, knowing the NFL draft is just six days away.

Isn't that incredible?

Doosy.

went to the Packers and then ended up going to the NFL saying, we want to write a song for the NFL Draft.

And everybody gave them thumbs up.

So we were able to get our hands on just a little piece of it that we can listen to with you, Pete.

They are going to be at the NFL Draft and will play this song live.

for the very first time this next Friday night.

How exciting for them and for us and for everyone.

They're a Wisconsin band.

They're from right outside of Milwaukee.

And they've been together for 20 years.

So they're not just a little fly by night kind of thing.

They know what they're doing.

So

Peach Wabba (host)

you said Rocker was looking for them.

Why

Terry Barr (guest)

were

Peach Wabba (host)

they so hard to find?

Like if they're a Wisconsin band, are they just kind of living in anonymity and now they've got a break?

I'll

Terry Barr (guest)

be honest.

I didn't hear of them until getting.

this song to share with you.

So I sort of had to look up some info, even though they've been together for 20 years, you know, they all have their own, you know, family things, a job thing.

So it's not like they're playing out constantly or touring or things like that.

But I love that they got together and said this NFL draft thing is happening in Wisconsin.

We're a Wisconsin band.

Somebody should write the official NFL draft song.

And I just think you have to really hand it to them for going after it and making it happen.

When Rocker found out about this, the trouble he was having was first of all, finding the band and second of all, finding the song.

So he has now been in touch with them.

We are going to interview them tomorrow night to get the whole story.

Peach Wabba (host)

Wow.

Terry Barr (guest)

And find out, yeah, I want every step.

I want to know every step of the way how this happened.

Peach Wabba (host)

Absolutely.

That's a packed show tomorrow night on Max Inc.

And when we come back, folks, after a very short break, you're going to get a preview of the official NFL draft song.

and it's happening here in Green Bay next week.

This is Peach Wabba and Nightlight on a Bar Band Friday night on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Emerson Lehman

It is a bar ban Friday night.

MaxSync radio co-host Terry Barr is here as she always is on Friday.

At this time bringing us new music and just a whole lot of fun.

Terry, you bring your own fun.

That's why I love having you on the show.

Terry Barr

Well, we have to bring our own fun, right?

Absolutely.

I think sometimes things just aren't fun.

I

Emerson Lehman

could not agree more.

Dave

Terry Barr

on the

Emerson Lehman

stream says, this is out there, but the climb by Miley Cyrus.

I saw an inspirational video about Jordan with that song playing in the background.

I don't know that song.

Do

Terry Barr

you know that song, Terry?

Emerson Lehman

Climb?

Terry Barr

I don't, but now listen to it.

Conrad Krieger

Actually,

That song it was like a Disney Channel song because Miley Cyrus was

Terry Barr

a

Conrad Krieger

big part of Disney Channel Okay, yeah, she had her own movie and that was like the big song of that time was her song the climb nice I didn't know was associated with sports though.

I'd never heard it in sports

Emerson Lehman

Yeah, I don't know that one either.

Good one Dave.

Thank you All right, Terry.

So we've got doozy I kind of tease this before we went to the break.

This is called last one standing

This is the official song of the NFL Draft, correct?

Yeah.

Terry Barr

All right.

Yes.

And they wrote it with the idea of overcoming obstacles, similar to what the players will be waiting for when they have their name called during the NFL Draft.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah, no kidding.

The big moment for sure.

Well, this is great.

We've

got a

we've got a small sample.

It's about a minute long.

And then if you want to hear the whole song, you'll have to watch the draft and doozy will perform it.

But right now here's the official NFL draft song.

Last one standing a small sample.

Song Clip

of my own drum.

Emerson Lehman

That's why they call it a tease you kind of get into it.

Then they just yeah, that's all we get right now, but that's fun.

That's a good song

Terry Barr

The theme of your evening with song

Emerson Lehman

Lee

Terry Barr

yeah, it totally works listening to the words I get it I

the NFL Draft thing.

Yep.

Emerson Lehman

I love it.

That's going to be far.

Are you going to be anywhere near Green Bay for the draft or?

I

Terry Barr

want to be badly.

I love the Green Bay area.

Worked there a long time.

Family still there.

And I think this is such an outstanding opportunity to be

of something that's going to be maybe a once in a lifetime thing.

Emerson Lehman

It's interesting because I think it's fun too.

But they also said maybe you should come down and do the show for Madison because I might not be able to park out here.

You know, I mean,

Terry Barr

it's going to be that crazy.

They're having you in Madison.

Emerson Lehman

No.

And I never have a problem going to Madison.

I like it even if even if I'm on the burbs.

It's just fun to be

Terry Barr

in Madison.

So I could be in Green Bay and you'll be in Madison.

So we'll switch it

Emerson Lehman

up.

We may have to swap roles.

Well, I'm holding a spot.

next Friday night, if you think of someone you, you could have on or that we could prerecorded or whatever.

I think that would be a blast, but no pressure whatsoever.

Oh,

Terry Barr

I'll work on it.

Don't you worry.

Okay.

Emerson Lehman

Fantastic.

Terry Barr

And

Emerson Lehman

did you know before we let you go, Mike Clemens, this is kind of what inspired the sports song tonight question.

He wrote the

pack

arena.

Remember that you were talking about the nineties.

Mike wrote the pack arena and Jane McNair was a performer on it.

Terry Barr

How crazy is that?

I did not know that.

Emerson Lehman

It's a terrible song.

I'm kidding.

Terry Barr

It's a lot

Emerson Lehman

of fun.

No, Mike was on last night.

We played it, right, Con?

We had a couple... Let's give Terry a couple seconds of pack arena.

Conrad Krieger

Ooh.

One second.

Emerson Lehman

Maybe four seconds.

Oh, he's got to find it.

But it's great.

If you get a chance to listen to it, it's so fun.

It's like to the Macarena music, and they just had so much fun with it, and it's great.

So

Terry Barr

it was fun.

Oh, I love it.

I didn't know

Emerson Lehman

Mike was a songwriter, too.

So maybe have him on Max Inc.

Terry Barr

That would be perfect now that you've said that.

Ooh.

Emerson Lehman

Now I've made things awkward.

Terry Barr

It's the idea.

Emerson Lehman

You have Mike and Jane, and

Terry Barr

they'll sing it.

Thank

Emerson Lehman

you as always, my friend.

We will talk next

Terry Barr

week.

Oh, and you guys too, and all your listeners.

Have a great weekend.

Emerson Lehman

You too, Terry.

Thanks so much.

Have a great night.

That's Terry Barr.

Check out Max, Inc.

Radio tomorrow night, folks.

You just got a great sample of what they have coming up.

Power takeoff, PTO, and doozy.

with the NFL draft song, official draft song.

I didn't know they had an official draft song.

I really liked that riff.

Oh yeah, me

Conrad Krieger

too.

That was

Emerson Lehman

great.

Do you think, did he kind of sound like R&B or rapper?

Like it was sort of had a rap style.

Conrad Krieger

A little bit, yeah.

Emerson Lehman

Yeah, I thought that was pretty sweet.

So check out Max Inc Radio tomorrow night from six to midnight.

Power takeoff will be on at eight o'clock.

We gotta have Lisa Hale on again.

Don't forget to check out new Isco weekend folks this weekend.

Lisa does such a great job.

and everybody who contributes to that song, that great Northeast Wisconsin magazine show that Lisa does such a great job hosting.

I have a classic movie pick on there.

Brittany Merlot contributes.

Todd Michaels, Terry Barr, Amanda Nimmer, Conrad Krieger, the kid Conrad Krieger.

Has anyone called you that?

The kid Conrad Krieger?

Conrad Krieger

No.

Emerson Lehman

You sound like you're like a shoe shine guy in a mob movie.

Get the kid Conrad Krieger over here.

That's awesome.

All right.

Lots of fun tonight, folks.

Who do we have Monday, Conrad?

I didn't even tease a Monday show.

What

Conrad Krieger

are we

Emerson Lehman

looking at?

Conrad Krieger

Before we leave, I just want to end with that.

We got a text down if you saw.

I did not.

Yes.

Who is it?

So we got Carol in Madison.

She said, best song in sports is Chelsea Dagger.

Fight me.

I don't think I know that song.

Emerson Lehman

I don't.

I'm going to listen to that on the way home.

Carol, thanks for getting in under the wire.

Monday.

Kirsten Larson from the Milwaukee Film Festival.

She'll give us a review at 6.35 and our pal Tim Sowers from the Overture Center in Madison at 7.20.

That's Monday.

Thank you, everybody.

Thank you to Terry Barr, Emerson Lehman, and on behalf of the lovable producer Conrad.

Good night,

Wisconsin.

Pete Chwaba (host)

Broadcasting live from the Civic Media Studios in Green Bay, this is Night Light with Pete Chwaba.

Your inside source on everything entertainment from Wisconsin to Hollywood.

And now a man barely six feet tall but a mountain of muscle, Pete Chwaba.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

Welcome back to Night Light, ladies and gentlemen, as we kick off our number two.

So great to have you with me on this Wednesday night here at Night Light Conrad Riding Shotgun.

If you were the lead actor or actress in a romantic comedy, who would you want to play your co-star?

That is tonight's Night Light Question of the Night.

We've had some outstanding...

answer so far.

Matt Miller coming up a little later here in hour two.

Right now, this is really fun for me.

I've got the legendary actor Mike Starr here.

He's been over in over 300 films, TV credits too.

He's done theater.

He's an absolute treasure.

And you've seen him in so many movies that you've probably forgotten about because he's in so many of them.

The Bodyguard, Miller's Crossing, Dumb and Dumber.

And Mike, I'll ask you about this one.

kill the irish

Mike Starr (guest)

can i first apologize i know i did a lot of chicago things i do love milwaukee and wisconsin had great experiences there including being out for weddings and and uh so many so many great times and uh stayed uh stayed out in milwaukee and made made special trips not only with my wife but also uh i with with friends out there and was lucky to work and i even have these friends that have a

a film show on the radio in Kenosha.

And so I try to, I try to, I'm not, not competitors, it's all, we're all in this together.

And was lucky enough to go to Lambeau Field.

Oh yeah.

Like that and spend great times in Wisconsin.

Listen,

Conrad Riding (co-host)

it's a great, I mean, I've lived in Chicago, LA and Wisconsin.

I loved them all, but Wisconsin, where I live now in northeast Wisconsin is the easiest place to live, you will ever, it's like, oh God, it's like heaven.

The people are nice.

It's just easy to get around.

There's enough culture.

It's fantastic.

So, but thank

Mike Starr (guest)

you for

Conrad Riding (co-host)

the nice words.

You, I was about to ask you about Kill the Irishman.

This movie that you were in that,

Not a lot of people saw it.

I just watched it like three years ago.

Was that a good

Mike Starr (guest)

experience?

That was tremendous.

It was about Danny Green.

Pete Chwaba (host)

Yeah.

Mike Starr (guest)

And Cleveland gangster, right?

Yeah.

I was a long shaman and originally from Ireland.

It's a really interesting story.

The book was written by who's now a police.

Commission, I think in the suburbs of Ohio at least he was at the time when he gave me the book and he had been a Petroman I think way back then there were I think 35 bombings in 1973 between these wars they were having and You know you look at the cares we had and of course race evens we lost who was Originally I think from Northern Ireland and England he was a wonderful wonderful actor and we lost him at a young age

and he had played the lead and he was just spot on perfect, just great to be around.

And there's, you know, you see all the other characters in, oh man, Vince DeVonafrio, and we had, jeez, we just, oh.

It's a great cast, yeah.

Chris Walken, and you see, yeah, so it's, jeez, I'm just thinking of all the people that were on it, and some who are not with us anymore, Tony.

I didn't know.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

Yeah, Ray Stevens was great.

You are like, let's, let's talk about that, Mike.

You, and I want to get to Dumb and Dumber and Miller's Crossing and maybe even

Mike Starr (guest)

the

Conrad Riding (co-host)

bodyguard.

We'll see how we do here.

But like, you, you've been described, everybody I've talked to about you, or if I said Mike Starr is coming on the show, whatever I said, he is such a nice guy.

He is one of the nicest guys you will meet in the entertainment business.

For you, and you've worked with tons of people, who do you say that about?

Mike Starr (guest)

Oh, Lord.

Now what now you're gonna get me in trouble if I So okay Gene Wilde I Mean how much geez I'm thinking of so many.

I mean, you know, I mentioned a nice Robert DeNiro was to be Dustin Hoffman, but John Lithgow

He got me work too.

That's all.

That always helps.

Thank you Imperiali for the sopranos.

Oh yeah.

Got me work a few times and so many people.

I was lucky enough to work with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick on Broadway and a few other nice people.

Wow.

And geez, now I get nervous that I'm not going to say it's that cliche of who am I leaving out.

But Gene Wilder was.

One of the most special people you can't imagine.

You couldn't wait to get to the set.

We did these A&E mysteries.

He wrote Agatha Christie's style.

We did a couple of those and special TV movies.

He's in Milwaukee.

He

Conrad Riding (co-host)

was born

Mike Starr (guest)

in Milwaukee.

That's it.

That's it.

Oh, good.

I finally.

Great choice.

Oh, the stories you would tell.

I'd ask about young Frankenstein.

Hey, John Candy was.

Oh, yeah.

You

Conrad Riding (co-host)

were an Uncle Buck.

Mike Starr (guest)

That's right.

The drunken clown,

Conrad Riding (co-host)

right?

What are your, like, you play a great tough guy, Mike.

I've seen you play cops.

Where does comedy rank?

Like, when you get to play comedy, is that like a nice added bonus to your career or is it tops on your list?

Mike Starr (guest)

Oh, geez.

I don't want to make a cliche, it's all the same to me, but it's funny, they all have their, it's just, you know, Peter Farrell told me, and I think Jim Carrey was involved in the decision-making too, but Peter had said something that they wanted, someone that had played these, you know, serious mob characters or whatever I was supposed to be, and it's funny,

You know, and you see so many wonderful actors who got their start in doing stand-up, but they didn't want like a stand-up comedian.

He said, one of them said, I don't know, you know, on that.

But you see so many fabulous people who started in comedy or that we knew from comedy, and then you find out how wonderful they can be.

But it's funny, some of, only once or twice, it would

But, you know, someone would say something like, but isn't he a comedian?

How are they going to take him seriously as this character of the mock?

Because if you did something that was popular, like dumb and dumb, not because of me, but it has such a following.

It's outrageous internationally.

I mean, people still talk of all ages.

And so, yeah, that was that's so much fun.

I mean,

I don't like, geez, I don't know what to say because I like, I love period pieces and I don't know how to say it.

I mean, there's some things that aren't comedies and you get to be kind of a funny guy.

Like in the natural, I was kind of, you know, I improvised a few funny lines here and there, you know, thanks to Barry Levinson.

And I, I don't know, I don't know how to answer that.

I mean,

Conrad Riding (co-host)

it is

Mike Starr (guest)

so great to make people laugh.

Let's put it that

Conrad Riding (co-host)

way.

Yeah, I knew.

You know, you're rolling dumb and dumber.

I knew every line at one point.

Even when you come out of the restroom and you're like feeling better girls, just

Mike Starr (guest)

everything you say to

Conrad Riding (co-host)

those guys is so funny.

And it's such a scene.

Mike Starr (guest)

It's

Conrad Riding (co-host)

written

Mike Starr (guest)

by them.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

Yeah, well, yeah, but it's performed well, too.

And I feel like comedians should just act.

Whether you're a comedian or whatever, the script is there.

That's the material.

Just play it straight.

And if it's funny, it's funny.

But was

Mike Starr (guest)

that... Whatever way you get there, as people say to me, you work at it.

But a lot of the humor comes out of reality.

I mean, you think of little things like in Goodfellas when...

when Joe Pesci after this terrible killing, he says, make that coffee to go, you know.

And the Godfather, you know, a lot of times humor comes out of that.

And then there's different styles, of course, of comedy and being on.

Dumb and Dumber was just the toughest part was to keep a straight face when I'm either supposed to be angry or dying or whatever.

And these surprises come from Jim and Jeff, you know.

Nefarally, brothers, tell me things about my guy Fred Stola when I first met him with the phone booth.

Oh, he's great.

And he's just really hysterical and he's a wonderful writer.

He wrote, I believe he, I know that he was on Seinfeld, but it looks great.

But he also wrote on Seinfeld too.

Oh, is that right?

Yeah.

Fred did a lot of stuff.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

Great comic.

He's

Mike Starr (guest)

been in touch with me.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

And a great part.

I mean, I forgot about the phone booth scene in Dumb and Dumber.

That's classic.

What was it like?

We talked about Miller's crossing a little bit in our text exchange the other day, and you sounded excited to talk about that.

What was it like working with the Coen brothers and Gabriel Byrne and Albert Finney in this great cast?

Mike Starr (guest)

Oh, man.

Too long a story on that one, if I could add.

I mean, Albert Finney.

The Danny boy scene probably listening and oh just but so many other things just the conversations again Offset well, I was drinking that wait a second, but just Just the The stories and the things they share and these people that you looked up to and my partner in it Al Manchini Congress so he was in and and and You know Albert

But Gabe, you know, there was so many like laughs and things.

Gabe was filming off the set and there was just so much.

And John Titori I've worked and known for years.

So we got to do that scene together and work together.

And there's a lot of things I could tell you.

And then having to all of a sudden come up with a song.

And then what happened was they changed it.

And another time I can tell you how I learned it.

going through customs.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

But that really is you singing?

Mike Starr (guest)

Yeah.

That's why it doesn't look like it.

I mean, people don't say, oh, you're not a singer or whatever.

But I'm no genius.

But what happened was that I did one that had this page that something I'd learned in Northern Italy.

And then they changed the song.

I had about five days to a week.

And I was going up doing this.

film about the Boston busing and on a bound or something was a and I was going up to Toronto and I had to learn it and even I asked neighbors and they said the dialect was so strange to them but so you don't see it on my mouth much because you go from back that after that that none then the song in the film is there and it was about Pavarotti's town.

Is the song from pronouncing it right and

It's so it that that that that you know, it's like so it's very hard to match the mouth.

So yeah sideways and things and and they they actually Was it Joel Ethan they apologized to me said we should have put you in the credits because people thought it was someone else You know, and I got to be

pretty obnoxious about it over the years.

Mick Flanagan, great line producer, said, if you asked Mike about Miller's Cross, that's one of my favorite movies, but he'll immediately go, that was me singing, you know.

Conrad Riding (co-host)

Mike Starr is here, ladies and gentlemen.

He has been in such movies as The Bodyguard, Kill the Irishman, Miller's Crossing.

Goodfellas will have a couple more minutes with Mike after a very short break.

And then Matt Miller comes up to talk about the Milwaukee Film Festival.

You got nightlight with peach wabba here on the civic media radio network

Pete Chihuahua (host)

Tonight light I am peach wava and Matt Miller comes up in just a few minutes.

We'll talk about the Milwaukee Film Festival We have a couple more minutes here with our our guest Mike star an actor with so many credits, you know his work from the Godfather Bodyguard the bodyguard is what I'm gonna say bodyguard good fellas Miller's crossing so many so many great credits Mike

Mike Starr (guest actor)

I just tell you that Miller's crossing that was an example of with there was some comic things we

We

Pete Chihuahua (host)

did you

Mike Starr (guest actor)

know, but not complete but things like when he hits me in the face with the chair and how we set it up and and the con bros were just so great to be around

They're just like that.

And I did a lot of off-camera humor with them, too.

Pete Chihuahua (host)

That's great.

I'm not surprised by that because you seem like a real jovial guy who likes to laugh.

It did surprise me a little bit, maybe just because of his character, but the Gabriel Byrne was someone who liked to crack up and be funny.

He had

Mike Starr (guest actor)

a very dry sense of humor.

I mean, I even called him out, but he was great.

He's very funny.

He's really

Pete Chihuahua (host)

something.

That's so cool.

Well, you'll have to come back because I'd love to do a deep dive on some of these things and talk to you more about your process and all that kind of stuff.

But before we let you go, can you give me, you know, you've got like almost 300 movie credits, TV credits.

If someone said, Mike, what three films of yours should I watch?

What would your answer be?

Mike Starr (guest actor)

Oh, Lord.

I find it hard to.

Pete Chihuahua (host)

You don't like to leave

Mike Starr (guest actor)

anybody out, I could tell.

Yeah, and also, I don't like to call them my films either.

I mean, there's different things where you, you know, I mean, I think Edward is a great experience.

Oh yeah.

And I had done this comedy with all friends.

the deli where I played a degenerate gamble to live what it's like.

But I mean, the obvious one's a good fellow's bodyguard, you know, dumb and dumb.

So I mean, it's hard to say.

I mean, the natural was such a great experience, but I'd love to, Jesus, if you ever see path to paradise where I actually played an Egyptian blue-eyed redhead at one of the 93 World Trade Center farmers before that, which was very controversial at the time and known in 9-11, but it was a fascinating

study they did and then But there's things that like I said did with Gene Wilder and there are things that might not have been it's well-known I mean Black Valley was a great experience Sometimes all the scenes you do certain things don't get in the film whatever But of course and again good fellows is just like one of the highlights, but but you know, it's You don't consider yourself by any means a lead in some of these films.

You know what I mean, so

I guess if you put it that way, films that you've been in, but there's so many that had wonderful experiences.

I mean, I've been really lucky when you think about it.

I just recently did one some things, but and there's television shows that were just tremendous experiences, you know, whether they were Lauren Otis, Crime Story, Ray Donovan.

I got to be on Blacklist.

James Bennett was just something to work with him and to work with Bill on shameless even though it's one scene, you know, it was William, uh, what

Pete Chihuahua (host)

was so great

Mike Starr (guest actor)

and Ray Donovan with John Boyd and the whole crew on that.

Uh,

Pete Chihuahua (host)

well.

What I love, Mike, too, though, when I was looking at your IMDb page, you've got a ton of projects that aren't even out yet.

So you're still working hard.

I would love to have you come back soon.

And don't hit the gym too much, though, dude, because you look like a welterweight.

You look like a welterweight.

You're missing the intimidating.

You're trying to get the line back away.

There you go.

Mike, thank you so much for your time tonight.

It's great to meet you.

Thank you.

And I'd love to have you back on sometime, buddy.

Mike Starr (guest actor)

I really appreciate this.

My kids, all of

Pete Chihuahua (host)

them.

Keep up the great work.

Those are my children.

Yeah, thank you very much Mike.

Have a great

Mike Starr (guest actor)

night.

All right,

Pete Chihuahua (host)

kids.

All right.

That's that's Mike Star, ladies and gentlemen, check out this.

Go to his IMDB page.

In fact, you know what?

Let's bring our next guest in because I'm sure Matt has seen his share of Mike's films, too.

Milwaukee film critic Matt Miller joins us now also on the stream.

Matt, you got to hear part of that interview with the great Mike Star.

Talk about an actor like we've got another actor in Wisconsin, Richard, really, with over 300 credits.

Mike has like

He's got to be pushing 300 credits just with films.

And that's not even talking about the TV he did.

I mean, what a great career.

Matt Miller (Milwaukee film critic)

Yeah, I think I actually pulled up as IMDB while you were doing that interview.

And I think the number is like 249 on IMDB, which is wild.

And I mean, to have a year in which you are in Goodfellas and Miller, Miller's crossing in the same year, that's a pretty good way to live.

Absolutely.

would be a Hall of Fame year.

And then, you know, there's the rest of his career to go with it.

So that's kind of the dream career, you know, just like being memorable in movies, great movies, like what a great career to have.

Pete Chihuahua (host)

Absolutely.

And I think Miller's crossing to me is, you know, I do these classic movie picks.

And it's funny, I've got two Mike Starr.

movies.

Last week I did Miller's Crossing, Jim Carrey's name came up, so I did Dumb and Dumber this week, but Miller's Crossing is a very underrated, not underrated, because I think people think it's great, but that film executed brilliantly, writing, directing, acting, the look, the aesthetics, so great.

Matt Miller (Milwaukee film critic)

I mean, he's arguably in three modern great directors.

best movies.

Pete Chihuahua (host)

Right.

Matt Miller (Milwaukee film critic)

He's in Miller's Crossing by the Coen Brothers, which I think is probably top three Coen Brothers.

He's in Good Sellers, which I would say is like a top three Scorsese.

And he's in Ed Wood, which I think

Tim Burton (mentioned by Matt Miller)

is

Matt Miller (Milwaukee film critic)

probably the top three Tim Burton, like, right, who invented like modern cinema and great of our times.

Um, and he was, he was a part of all three of some of their best projects.

That's a, that's it.

Again, that's a good way to live.

Pete Chihuahua (host)

Absolutely.

Um, all right.

So Matt Miller is here folks, Milwaukee film critic.

Uh, you can follow him at a man about film.

He has a sub stack there.

It does great work.

This is Pete Chihuahua and nightlight on the civic media radio network.

Pete Schwaba (host)

I'm joined here in the studio right now by Green Bay Children's Museum, Director of Business Development.

But don't let that fool you, folks.

She will take a gig at the Guggenheim or the Science and Industry

Heather Heil (guest)

Museum.

I mean, yeah.

Pete Schwaba (host)

If there's like a signing bonus

and a

podium, she can be swayed.

It's great to have you with me tonight here on Nightlight.

We've got our question of the night is who is your favorite sitcom actress?

And I would say Betty White maybe is in the lead or...

From her

Heather Heil (guest)

since I've been here, there's been a lot of Betty Whites.

Three or four

Pete Schwaba (host)

Betty Whites.

Lee from Depeer says over the text line, I heard Miss Heather likes Mai Ties.

Heather Heil (guest)

Lee, I do.

Can you confirm?

I do, this is a true statement.

Only if they do not have pineapple juice in them.

Pineapple juice or orange juice should not be in a traditional Mai Tie.

I mean, they can be, but yeah, I don't like, no.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Is that your favorite drink?

Heather Heil (guest)

Oh, it's one of my favorites.

Pete Schwaba (host)

If you had to have, if you could only have one more cocktail.

Heather Heil (guest)

You know what, it depends on where I am.

If I'm listening to jazz, I want a really dirty martini, vodka martini.

If I'm at a tailgate, I want a carbless.

If I'm, it just depends on where, yeah.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Okay, at first.

I was hungry because I'm fasting and you brought in these Thai Brussels sprouts that

Heather Heil (guest)

I can smell.

And

Pete Schwaba (host)

now I haven't had a drink in like two and a half years and all I can think about is a dirty martini.

You are messing

Heather Heil (guest)

me up tonight.

Like Ron Jeremy dirty.

Like, yes.

So good.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Speaking of prosthetics.

Okay, hi-o.

Or not speaking of them.

Steve.

From Sun Prairie, that's the 608.

Steve says, my new bride, Anne, says Loretta, sweat from mash.

That's a great

Heather Heil (guest)

one.

Oh, yes.

I forgot

Pete Schwaba (host)

about mash.

Congratulations on the new bride, Steve.

And hello, Anne.

Thank you guys for listening tonight.

And then on the stream, PJ says, S.

Heather Heil (guest)

S. Well, Rick back at you, PJ.

Am I missing something there again?

Pete Schwaba (host)

S. Listen, it means money.

I don't know.

We need clarification, PJ.

But thank you for playing.

So we've got Heather Heil here.

She is the business development director of the Green Bay Children's Museum.

Give us another quick recap about the great event you have regarding tailgating and kids, because that sounds like fun.

And then we're going to take our movie quiz.

Heather Heil (guest)

You got it.

A future season ticket holder tailgate event, Friday, April 25th, 9 to 12, sponsored by the Green Bay Packers Give Back.

And you can bring your family, you can tailgate in our back parking lot and then come on into our museum.

And we have a little mini combine sign up for season ticket holders.

You can paint yourself up like a fan, make a mascot.

you know, do all of the things.

So it's really a fun day for the kids to get involved, burn off some energy and take part in those traditions of something new that Green Bay is fostering this year.

Yeah,

Pete Schwaba (host)

what would be really funny is if you did this combine for kids and there's some kid that ran like a three, eight, 40,

Heather Heil (guest)

vertical

Pete Schwaba (host)

of like 50 inches or something in the packers.

Heather Heil (guest)

I know people.

Do you really?

I know people.

Yeah, I could be like, yeah.

You could be the agent.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Yeah.

Getting on the packers ticket list though, is it was like a 400, it's like.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yeah, it's still a

The Greenland Sharks

Pete Schwaba (host)

will be born and die before you get your tickets.

Heather Heil (guest)

You will probably be 20s, 30s before you can get on that list.

However, you still need to sign up to be a season ticket holder.

So now is the time.

Bring in those kiddos.

Let's get this done.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Fair enough.

Todd from DePierre says we're learning a lot all in caps about Heather tonight.

Heather Heil (guest)

I'm sorry.

It's kind of an open book.

I am really whatever you want to

Pete Schwaba (host)

know.

you've done radio before, you're

Heather Heil (guest)

sort of

Pete Schwaba (host)

open anyway about stuff, you know, cause you've had quite a history, let's be honest.

Heather Heil (guest)

I've never been up in a spaceship

Pete Schwaba (host)

though.

Heather Heil (guest)

That I have not, yes.

Pete Schwaba (host)

All right, let's take our, all right, Heather, we'd like to give these nightlife quizzes once in a while.

We have some that are about Wisconsin or sports

Heather Heil (guest)

or show

Pete Schwaba (host)

business or whatever.

You said I'd love to take a sports movie quiz.

Heather Heil (guest)

I did say that and then I immediately regretted it.

Why?

Cause I was like, if it's not like feel.

to dreams or like movies I've seen, I don't know that.

I

Pete Schwaba (host)

think you'll do okay.

Heather Heil (guest)

How I'm gonna do with this.

Pete Schwaba (host)

We kinda came up with this.

Heather Heil (guest)

Can Conrad and I do this together?

No,

Pete Schwaba (host)

because he created like half the questions.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yeah, half of mine.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Shoot.

So, well, let's start with, all right, here's a Conrad question.

All right, you ready?

All right, this is ready?

Conrad, you got the bell ready?

Heather Heil (guest)

Can we get it in like a British accent, please?

Pete Schwaba (host)

Hold on a second.

Heather Heil (guest)

You got

Pete Schwaba (host)

this.

Two and a half men octo.

played the wild thing in major league.

I'm gonna go with the American.

What two and a half men actor played the wild thing

Heather Heil (guest)

in major league?

He was in two and a half men.

Charlie Sheen.

Pete Schwaba (host)

I

Heather Heil (guest)

didn't even have to read it.

You should see the smoke coming from my ears right now.

Pete Schwaba (host)

I

Heather Heil (guest)

didn't even have to read the

Pete Schwaba (host)

choice.

Heather Heil (guest)

I

Pete Schwaba (host)

was gonna say there's multiple choice.

Conrad's questions are multiple choice.

Heather Heil (guest)

I'm not as forgiving.

Thank you Conrad.

Pete Schwaba (host)

All right, here's another con question.

What actor played Billy Bean in Money Ball?

I'm

Heather Heil (guest)

gonna say it was the blonde-haired guy who was in Oceans 11 and 12 and he was really smoking hot and he was married to Angelina Jolie.

Is that the correct actor?

Pete Schwaba (host)

Well here are your options.

Heather Heil (guest)

Red Pit.

I didn't even see it, like, did you just see that, like,

Pete Schwaba (host)

boom.

I don't even know how easy Conrad is making this, he says.

Heather Heil (guest)

No, he's not.

This is

Pete Schwaba (host)

hard.

I didn't even have to read the choices.

He said, A, Brad Pitt.

Just so smart.

B, Aaron Rodgers, C, Pete Schwabba, D, Jonah Hill.

Heather Heil (guest)

I was going between Jonah Hill, but I couldn't come up with his name either.

Pete Schwaba (host)

In what movie do the average Joe's gym and Globo gym face off in the dodgeball championship?

Is it?

Heather Heil (guest)

Dodgeball.

Okay, Conrad, was that a Conrad question?

Good

Pete Schwaba (host)

lord, Conrad.

If this were an IQ test, you'd be an absolute rocket

Heather Heil (guest)

scientist right now.

I know, I'm just crushing it.

But that's

Pete Schwaba (host)

good, we like our guests to do well.

So you're three for three on the nightlight sports movie quiz.

What 1986 movie stars Gene Hackman as coach Norman Dale?

Is it A, remember the Titans, C42, D, John Wick 5,

Dodgeball assassination.

You got him.

Or B dodgeball.

Heather Heil (guest)

What was the question again?

Pete Schwaba (host)

In what movie do the average Joe's gym and global gym face off in the dodgeball championship?

Heather Heil (guest)

What gym is called the average Joe's?

Pete Schwaba (host)

No, what movie do the average?

Heather Heil (guest)

Dodgeball.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Correct.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yeah.

SPEAKER_??

Okay.

Heather Heil (guest)

Did we not just ask

Pete Schwaba (host)

that question?

No, you just asked that

Heather Heil (guest)

question.

You just asked me that question.

So what's the question after that?

There was something about that.

I was like, who's been drinking?

Do you want me to do it?

I don't know.

Who

Pete Schwaba (host)

had the wine?

John Wick 5 dodgeball assassination.

I gravitated

Heather Heil (guest)

back.

I'm like, what is

Pete Schwaba (host)

that?

All right, you're three for three.

Disregard that last question.

This is why I don't host Jeopardy.

Heather Heil (guest)

I think you're doing great,

Pete Schwaba (host)

buddy.

OK.

What 1986 movie stars Gene Hackman as coach Norman Dale?

Is it A, remember the Titans?

B, Hoosiers?

C, Peach Wabba's Basketball 5?

Or D, Larry the Cable Guy on Ice?

Heather Heil (guest)

A or B?

I'm going to say B. B.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Dodgeball is

Heather Heil (guest)

correct.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Dodgeball.

Oh, it is Hoosiers.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yes.

Very well done.

Okay.

If you haven't seen

Pete Schwaba (host)

Larry the Cable Guy on Ice, it is a spectacular show, by the

Heather Heil (guest)

way.

Wasn't there like a for real?

Will Ferrell was on Ice, Blades of Glory.

Yes, that's a sports movie.

He asked me those questions.

Pete Schwaba (host)

All right, Heather Hiles here, she's our guest.

She is the business development director for the Green Bay Children's Museum.

She's taking our sports movie quiz here.

She is four for four, five for ten.

No, four for four.

Okay.

What movie do the average joke?

No, I'm kidding.

What movie what golf movie?

Oh boy stars Kevin Costner as Roy tin cup McEvoy

Heather Heil (guest)

Tin cup I

Pete Schwaba (host)

don't even have to read the options You know somewhere Luke Mathers right now is like oh man.

Let me out there All right here here we go.

She's six for six Heather Hile what basketball movie stars Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes

Heather Heil (guest)

white man can't jump

Pete Schwaba (host)

Yeah, you're undefeated.

You're seven for seven.

Heather Heil (guest)

It's because I'm athletic.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Can

Heather Heil (guest)

you look at me?

All

Pete Schwaba (host)

right.

Heather Heil (guest)

Oh, this is a good one.

Pete Schwaba (host)

You know what?

Yeah, it's not I keep seeing the answers because I haven't read them and then I go, I'm excited for that question.

Oh, we just read it because I saw you had hoop dreams as one of the.

Choices.

That's a phenomenal film.

I don't know if I've seen it.

What about Peach Wabba Can Dunk?

That was a good movie, too.

Yeah.

And Peach Wabba could dunk.

Heather Heil (guest)

She had a prosthetic doll.

He couldn't dribble.

Why can't he just be himself?

Pete Schwaba (host)

I was one of the few basketball players on our team that wore a prosthetic, which was weird because I had shorts on, so it didn't really matter.

I know.

I was like, what's happening?

But it helped me dunk.

I just couldn't dribble or pass or shoot.

All right, what football movie based on a true story stars Sandra Bullock?

Heather Heil (guest)

Blindside.

Pete Schwaba (host)

She's crushing this thing.

We got to get the right questions.

She's ace.

Heather Heil (guest)

I was nervous.

I'm like, this is gonna be terrible.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Well, we still felt, we felt bad after that Friends quiz we

Heather Heil (guest)

gave.

Well, but I came back and was crushed to the other quiz.

You did very well.

Mm-hmm.

Pete Schwaba (host)

All right, what movie stars Adam Sandler as Bobby Boucher?

Heather Heil (guest)

Bobby Boucher, The Waterboy.

Mm-hmm.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Yep.

I have to tell the story.

There's, I listened to a podcast and there was, you know, I'm a...

For college, I like Wisconsin teams.

For, oh, I'm a Chicagoan or that's where I sport.

So I was listening to a sports show and there's a late night host there and he was doing a draft over the phone.

and say, who do you think the bear should draft?

And one guy texted in Bobby Boucher

Heather Heil (guest)

from

Pete Schwaba (host)

Southwest Missouri State and the host didn't know the movie.

Heather Heil (guest)

And he goes, he

Pete Schwaba (host)

was trying to play along and he goes, well, Bobby Boucher, you know, he's a good player.

I don't think he's going to go in the first round.

Like he had no idea

Heather Heil (guest)

what he was

Pete Schwaba (host)

talking about.

And

Heather Heil (guest)

the other hosts played

Pete Schwaba (host)

that over and over all day.

Like I almost felt bad for the guy.

Heather Heil (guest)

That's funny.

Pete Schwaba (host)

All right.

Heather Heil (guest)

What is,

Pete Schwaba (host)

is Heather one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight for eight.

She's crushing.

All right.

What 2024 movie?

Stars Zendaya as a tennis coach and former player and has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world famous Grand Slam champ.

Heather Heil (guest)

I do not do we have multiple choice on this one?

Pete Schwaba (host)

Okay, is it a challengers be tennis dudes?

At

Heather Heil (guest)

least make it sound

Pete Schwaba (host)

real.

See tennis threesome

All right, that sounds kind of interesting.

And then D, Grand Salami Tennis.

When I said make this easy for her.

Heather Heil (guest)

Conrad.

I didn't mean, she's not a toddler.

Pete Schwaba (host)

Okay.

Heather Heil (guest)

My face is flushed.

It's not the wine.

It's one.

Number one.

Chandler.

Challengers.

I didn't know that one though.

Pete Schwaba (host)

You didn't know

Heather Heil (guest)

that one?

I didn't know that one.

Pete Schwaba (host)

It's a really, it's a very interesting movie.

I liked it.

Okay.

What 1993 movie stars Sean Aston as a student for Notre Dame who plays, who wants to play football?

What 1993 movie star Sean Aston as a student for Notre Dame who wants to play football?

Is it a

Heather Heil (guest)

the Goonies?

No, remember the Titans B

Pete Schwaba (host)

Rudy C Notre Dame pride and D the Goonies to Rudy goes to Rudy

Heather Heil (guest)

Rudy How about radio we didn't talk about radio or

Pete Schwaba (host)

like all of these that was one of the selections You just you know, you didn't have to read the multiple choice for that question

Yeah.

So we've got more questions

for Heather.

We're going to do a very,

very quick break.

Folks, this break is so fast.

You're not going to get a blank.

We're going to be back.

So don't go anywhere.

Heather Heil (guest)

She's crushing the quiz.

Pete Schwaba (host)

You're undefeated.

You have a perfect attendance.

All right.

We're coming right back.

Heather Hiles here from the Green Bay Children's Museum taking our movie quiz, which will segue into Wisconsin sports.

Heather Heil (guest)

There's

Pete Schwaba (host)

more.

It's Beach Wabba and Nightlight on the Civic Media Radio

Network.

Pete Schwabba (host)

That's our space

Heather Heil (guest)

girl.

Yeah, nicely done Conrad.

Pete Schwabba (host)

She went into space for eight minutes with five other women.

and achieved absolutely nothing.

Welcome back to Nightlight.

This is Pete Schwabba.

Tyler from Wisconsin Rapids says, I dream of Jeanne's naughty sister too.

Heather Heil (guest)

Oh, I don't remember.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Who is he referring to, Conrad?

Yeah, I don't remember that.

You have to scroll back.

Now I'm curious, because I loved I Dream of Jeanne.

Barbara Eden, she was great too.

Barbara from Waukesha says, Edie Falco in the Sopranos and Nurse Jackie.

Oh yeah, she's

Heather Heil (guest)

fantastic.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Lee from DePierre, Elaine Benes.

Our question of the night, folks, by the way, is who is your favorite sitcom actress?

And we've had all kinds of amazing answers.

Barb from Waukesha also says, disregard my Edie Falco text.

Those aren't sitcoms.

It's been a long time.

That's okay, Barb, we weren't going to call you out.

Heather Heil (guest)

Isn't Nurse Jackie, wasn't it?

I think it was a sitcom,

Pete Schwabba (host)

a

Heather Heil (guest)

drama.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right, that is the voice of Heather Heil.

It's so fun to have Heather here.

like we always do.

And you know, Kristen Lyrely, you guys are like interchangeable almost as guests because you come out and you can just talk about anything.

I know.

Actually,

Heather Heil (guest)

I was with her significant other and my significant other before I

Pete Schwabba (host)

came here.

I will not say his name.

Heather Heil (guest)

Craigers.

Pete Schwabba (host)

No, Craig, that was not me.

I have too much respect for law enforcement to call you by a name you don't want to be referred to.

Heather Heil (guest)

My significant other said, so what are you guys going to talk about tonight?

And I'm like, nothing that we talked about because I walk in there and it's bull in the china shop.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All bets are off.

So, and I can't remember, did you introduce me to Kristen or did she introduce me to you?

I think

Heather Heil (guest)

she introduced.

Yep.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Because she was already kind of in the next year.

Correct.

I introduced

Heather Heil (guest)

her to Mino and Mayor and then she introduced me to you because

Pete Schwabba (host)

she was

Heather Heil (guest)

like, I think you do need to know each other.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Can you introduce me to Mino and the Mayor?

Heather Heil (guest)

I sure can.

Pete Schwabba (host)

They don't return my call.

I

Heather Heil (guest)

can get you in.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right, sweet.

I'll slip you a double sawbuck for that.

Thank you.

All right, we've got a few more minutes with Heather, unless you want to stick around, which is fine too.

No, I got to go.

I got to watch

Heather Heil (guest)

some more TV.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Yeah, you got to.

I got to finish

Heather Heil (guest)

my guitar documentary.

Pete Schwabba (host)

What's that?

Heather Heil (guest)

The guy who owns the guitar shop, the famous guitar shop, they did a documentary.

I know it's my documentary club.

Already bored.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Yeah.

OK.

Heather Heil (guest)

No, it's awesome.

He's like sold guitars to like.

Anybody

Pete Schwabba (host)

was

Heather Heil (guest)

anybody?

Yeah.

Is this local?

Green

Pete Schwabba (host)

Bay?

No, it's

Heather Heil (guest)

like California.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Okay.

It was fun.

Like when I lived out there, you could go into guitar center because I play poorly, but I once in a while if I was bored or had time because I'd go in and you could see like people like slash.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yes.

Pete Schwabba (host)

So he would like go to this

Heather Heil (guest)

place and like that's where they would and they let you actually play there.

It wasn't like

Pete Schwabba (host)

a place.

Yeah, you just picked up a guitar.

I was at Norman's Rare Guitar.

Norman's Rare Guitar, son,

Heather Heil (guest)

Rad.

So that's good.

Pete Schwabba (host)

The

Heather Heil (guest)

documentary I'm watching right now.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Is it a docu-series?

Heather Heil (guest)

Nope.

Just a documentary.

Just a documentary.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right, let's try to get a few more questions in.

You're like, what is she, 10 for 10?

10 for 10.

Heather Heil (guest)

Smartest

Pete Schwabba (host)

guess ever.

Here are the questions that I came up with.

These are not.

Heather Heil (guest)

Multiple

Pete Schwabba (host)

choice.

Multiple choice.

Boo.

Multiple guess.

Let's start with movies that have packer themes.

Heather Heil (guest)

OK.

Pete Schwabba (host)

This film shot in 2012 in and around Lambeau Field has a cameo by Green Bay Mayor at the time, Jim Schmidt, and has a certain yard line in the title of the film.

Heather Heil (guest)

50 yard line.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Close.

Heather Heil (guest)

40 yard

Pete Schwabba (host)

line.

We'll accept that.

It's 60 yard line.

60 yard line.

That's pretty good.

That movie's 13 years old.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yeah.

That's the movie I was an extra in.

I should have known that one.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Oh nice.

Yeah.

Okay.

This movie that often references Green Bay Packers refers to their team colors and was just released a couple months ago in theaters.

Heather Heil (guest)

The green and gold.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Have you seen it?

Heather Heil (guest)

Not yet.

Oh,

Pete Schwabba (host)

you gotta check it out.

We were just

Heather Heil (guest)

talking about that at dinner tonight, too.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Oh, really?

I guess it's with Craig.

See?

I'm not gonna give you this forum to insult my friend.

Yeah, you are, because

Heather Heil (guest)

you know, every time I'm gonna...

Pete Schwabba (host)

Well, he's your friend.

Craig and I know each other, but not well.

I mean, we went... I'm

Heather Heil (guest)

trying to make you friends.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Okay, thanks, Craig.

Heather Heil (guest)

My friends are your friends.

Pete Schwabba (host)

It's just like a blind date for a friendship.

It's not the least bit awkward.

Heather Heil (guest)

You're welcome.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right, this 20...

12 film involving the Packers explores the last day or the the last day of quarterback Brett Favre and includes Lambo in the title The whole title of the film isn't what I just read if you can remember it.

Heather Heil (guest)

No, I don't know what you're talking about.

Pete Schwabba (host)

It's called last

Heather Heil (guest)

thing about Mary The last day at Lambo

Pete Schwabba (host)

she got it.

Yeah, I'm defeated All right, we're gonna segue these are movies that were just shot in what?

Heather Heil (guest)

You didn't do something about Mary.

Brett Farve was in that one.

Pete Schwabba (host)

He was.

Yeah, he's a good actor.

Heather Heil (guest)

He was so,

Pete Schwabba (host)

so good.

He does great charity work.

All right.

In this 19, this 2009 film starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger was shot around Oshkosh,

Heather Heil (guest)

Wisconsin.

I saw this and I remember this.

Multiple choice.

I need.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right.

Multiple choice.

We'll say, let's say The Omen.

Nope.

Um, major league.

Nope.

Public enemies.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yes.

Public enemies.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Very well done.

Heather Heil (guest)

And they were in Managua and there

Pete Schwabba (host)

were like

Heather Heil (guest)

bull holes and like the whole thing.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Yeah.

That's right.

Good memory.

That's tough though when they're not.

See, I don't coddle people like Conrad does.

You are graded on a curve, but well.

Heather Heil (guest)

Okay.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Wow.

Craig just beat.

Please arrest Heather for me.

Never.

Citizens arrest.

Freedom.

All right, I'm doing my best here, Craig.

This film starring Bob Uker and Tom Beringer was shot primarily at Milwaukee County Stadium in 1989.

Is

Heather Heil (guest)

that the major league?

Pete Schwabba (host)

Yeah, it is.

You did that old person

Heather Heil (guest)

thing.

Just a bit outside.

Pete Schwabba (host)

You did that old person thing where you out of the.

Yeah, I'm going to get the cable.

The major.

Have you seen the Batman?

Heather Heil (guest)

No, I have not.

Or the Twitter was able to, on a serious note, was just in Milwaukee and was able to pay my respects to Bob Yooker in the cemetery there.

So that was

Pete Schwabba (host)

quite an

Heather Heil (guest)

amazing, like, experience.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Was he

Heather Heil (guest)

buried there?

He was a military person, so it was like really impactful for me to be, I wanted to meet him and not the way I wanted to do

Pete Schwabba (host)

it, but it

Heather Heil (guest)

was nice to thank him for giving

Pete Schwabba (host)

a kid

Heather Heil (guest)

like me a chance in radio.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Can you imagine Bob Yooker in the military?

Like he must have been that guy, like Bill Murray.

Oh my gosh, for sure.

Probably Wisecracking and getting in trouble.

Such a funny guy.

Let's try to do this.

Let's try to get a couple more in before we bring Dave, our brewmaster onto the show.

This film was released in the last few months.

This film, which was released in the last few months, looks at the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers World Series appearance, and it's titled after a famous Bob Hucker phrase.

Heather Heil (guest)

Just a bit outside.

The

Pete Schwabba (host)

story of the 1982 Brewers.

Heather Heil (guest)

Yes.

Pete Schwabba (host)

That's right.

Made by Sean Hannish and Kelly Call.

Great film.

I have not seen

Heather Heil (guest)

this.

I didn't realize.

Pete Schwabba (host)

I'm halfway through.

I watched it the other night, and then I got a phone call, but I'm going to go back to it.

It's really, really good.

Heather Heil (guest)

OK, babe.

Mark

Pete Schwabba (host)

that down

Heather Heil (guest)

on our list.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right.

This 1999 film.

David Lynchfilm is about a man unable to drive a car who rides a tractor from Iowa to Wisconsin to visit his alien brother.

Heather Heil (guest)

Is this a film that just came out with

Pete Schwabba (host)

the... No, 1999.

The Straight Story.

Heather Heil (guest)

Oh, The Straight

Pete Schwabba (host)

Story.

Connie got that

Heather Heil (guest)

buzzer.

Pete Schwabba (host)

No, no, I'm playing music now so I can use the

Heather Heil (guest)

buzzer.

Pete Schwabba (host)

All right, we're gonna one more quick one here, right Heather This film from 1986 shot in and around Madison's UW campus and stars Rodney Dangerfield.

Heather Heil (guest)

Oh back to school.

Pete Schwabba (host)

Yeah You're really good.

I

Heather Heil (guest)

adore you.

Pete Schwabba (host)

I know I stick around if you want man.

I got a man up here.

I got it coming right back
