Mornings with WFHR · Tue Nov 11, 2025

Good morning Wisconsin, morning world, it's a new day.

Sometimes I'm right, and I can be wrong.

My own beliefs are in my song.

The future, the figure, the drama and then

makes no difference what you brought in.

Welcome back to the show, our two of the morning show here at 975 FM,

1320 AM, locally grown radio. Laura and James hanging out with you.

Thanks for hanging out with us everybody. Shout out to the best listeners and radio.

We're going to have some fun this hour and a little bit.

We're going to get into how many of us can actually swallow a pill dry.

It's an interesting one. I came across.

Yeah, that is a thing that I did not realize was as difficult for others as it is.

Same. Got that one coming up for you in a little bit.

We'll get into some good stories of the day.

We of course got a bunch of great events going on in our area.

Veterans day events that we'll be touching on in a little bit as well.

But I want to get into some entertainment news, kick off the hour.

Okay.

And the 2026 Grammy nominees came out.

Laura and I are going to go through every category now.

No, no, every single one.

There's a lot of them.

There are a lot of them.

And there's going to be a lot of artists that I've probably never heard of.

And that is okay.

You know, when we do this, I find that that's one of the more fun parts of this.

It's so fun because there's, listen, there are truly an unnumbered amount of artists out there making music of one kind of an or another.

So it shouldn't be surprising that there are tons of them that are very talented

and even being recognized by awards that you've never heard of before.

Taking a look at some of the bigger categories, we'll keep it to that.

Yes, of course.

Album of the Year, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Clips, Pusha T and Malice, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Leon Thomas, and Tyler the creator.

Lady Gaga and Kendrick have the top for me in there.

Yeah, I got a feeling Kendrick's going to take a lot of this this year.

Kendrick's going to take a lot this year.

Record of the Year, Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Doce, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and Sizzah, Shaperone, Rose, and Bruno Mars.

Okay.

Big list there.

And Song of the Year, very similar, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Doce, Kendrick Lamar, and Sizzah, Lady Gaga.

That one's Kendrick's.

Yeah.

And Sabrina Carpenter.

That one is definitely Kendrick's category.

And best pop vocal, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Teddy Swims.

Lady Gaga is now on.

I like seeing Teddy Swims.

Yeah, I like seeing him.

Best solo performance, Shaperone, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Lola Young, and Sabrina Carpenter.

Cool.

So I'm mentioning these lists in everything in part because there's a couple of names there that I think are maybe new to people.

But I don't know about anybody else.

I didn't realize Justin Bieber was still going at it and doing this good.

Oh yeah, he released a new album, not doing it.

He's doing stuff.

He's out doing things.

And he's a dad.

There's a part of me that really enjoys this.

Even though I'll have to be honest, I have not seen the movies yet and the wicked movies.

I haven't seen him.

Oh, sure.

And I honestly, I don't know if or when I'm gone.

I like the book.

I like to play a lot.

And it's nothing against a movie or anything like that.

I'm not a big R&D fan.

So I don't know.

But everybody else and it looks great.

It is clearly personal.

Everybody else and it looks great.

Jeff Goldblum has the wit.

The wit of Oz.

No, I mean, that sounds really cool.

I want to see that.

It also is way too much green screen for me.

It's too much for me.

Give me some costumes, some puppets.

Give me some of that handsome magic.

Something real.

Yeah.

I just can't do it.

It's the same thing with the Avatar movies.

I have a really hard time with it.

It hurts my eyes.

It takes me out of there.

Too much green screen.

I get a little bit of it.

But you know, get some puppets out there or something.

It takes me right out of it.

But I am a...

I remember seeing the play and hearing Edy and...

Edy Menzel in a Christian channel.

Edy Menzel in a Christian channel.

I am a Christian channel.

I am a version of Defying Gravity.

I hear that.

And it is the first time I have ever heard a musical.

I am like, that is a pop song.

Right.

That is a pop song right there.

That is just a pop song.

Yeah.

And it is kind of cool to see Best Pop Performance Duo Defying Gravity.

Cynthia Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Irvero.

Number one, 2021.

Remember, I will say it once more about the song.

Oh, yeah.

The It's Brandon Andrew Bener.

So here's the Zeroим

We are going to have to tell David stories God.

God.

So

you're going to say,

you're just not going to.

It is kind of cool to see some of these artists

getting a little bit of notoriety though.

You know, some of these moral.

I don't know.

Who do we have in the rock categories?

I want to hear it.

Let me have it.

Let me feel really sad.

Deft tones.

Okay.

Hame.

Okay, sure, sure.

Yeah.

Lincoln Park.

Okay.

Turnstile.

Turnstile's good.

I like them.

Hey, I've seen them.

Oh, yeah, it's right.

And Youngblood.

Okay, sure.

That's not so bad.

All right.

I'll take that.

Alternative music performance.

Please.

Haley Williams.

Okay.

Wetleg.

Turnstile.

Bon Avaire.

And the cure.

Bon Avaire.

Bon Avaire.

Thank you.

The cure being now.

That's cool to see the cure.

No, those are all great.

And Haley Williams is great.

Yeah, she's got a great voice.

And Wetleg is great.

Actually, it's all great.

Yeah.

So.

But turnstile in that one too.

Yeah.

A bunch of interesting stuff out there.

Yeah.

We'll see how they play out.

Yeah.

And it's about time that comedy gets a reward as the art form that it is.

And Amy Poler is leading the charge.

Good.

On the latest episode of Good Hang Podcast, she spoke with Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia

Coleman about the merits of comedy.

Benedict says, quote, if you can do comedy, you can do anything.

I really do believe that.

That's such a...

Amy replied, quote, of course, you don't have to tell me, babe.

Every single year at the Oscars, everybody gets blanked.

And all the serious people get up and accept and accept and accept.

And it's kind of BS because comedy, it's not easy.

And they don't get any notoriety.

Nope.

So I...

This has been a long, long, long standing conversation in the acting world.

It's one of the oldest that I can remember when I first started to actually

talk into professional actors and performers and comedians, especially stand-up

comedians that are acting.

Sure.

Now, there's also a pushback on this from a lot of old school comedians.

Because it kind of goes back.

South Park did a great special, a great episode on this.

Sure.

The idea is comedy central at the time did the comedy awards.

I remember this.

And they got shredded for it.

Because you don't do awards for comedy.

It's kind of a thing among comedians.

It's kind of like the opposite of what they do comedy for.

It's like the Mark Twain award is kind of all they have.

Yeah.

And that one's different.

That's different because it's Mark Twain.

And it's like a lifetime achievement award.

And it's kind of looked at a little bit differently.

And I love Amy Poehler.

You've heard me ramble about how much I live Amy Poehler.

Thank you.

Many years on these airwaves.

I don't know if I agree with her.

I agree with the comedy should have its category.

The comedy should have its place in the sun.

Definitely.

I could not agree more with maybe the greatest actor in the world right now.

I'm Ben and the Cumberbatch.

And I agree with him too.

Yeah.

If you should do comedy, you can do almost anything.

You look at how many serious actors cannot make you laugh.

But how many comedians like Billy Crystal,

Larav Williams can do Shakespeare like nobody's business.

Completely agree with that.

But that also again makes me feel like...

If you want recognition as a comedian, you've got to do a not comedy.

I'm a big believer in you don't have to brag.

If you're good at something others will talk about you.

Sure.

Comedy is almost the definition of that.

Yeah, that's how it's been built structurally.

So while I would not as somebody that is humbled to vote on these things

and the Oscars and stuff like that, I wouldn't shy away from a comedic category.

I don't know how you...

I don't know.

Well, that could be a tougher one.

But I will say perhaps it is too...

Comedy is so subjective too.

There's that.

But perhaps it is time to give comedy its just rewards.

Maybe it's time to put away the idea that comedy doesn't do awards.

And give some recognition to comedians who have truly earned it and been pioneers in the craft.

Completely agree.

Here's the thing really going in the favor of that.

And for what Amy and Benedict and you are saying about this.

Right.

The Oscars want your eyeballs.

They want ratings.

Right.

Having a new category kind of does that.

It's part of the reason the Grammys do it.

And also, comedies.

People love comedies.

People love comedies.

Those are the movies that people are going to recognize.

It's part of the reason they expanded the best picture category to 10 movies.

So they could throw comedies and, you know, picks our movies and stuff like that in there.

Movies that we never think is going to win best picture.

But it's nominated so fans still watch.

Yeah.

They're going to create this category.

They're going to do it.

They're going to.

They've got to.

It's just a matter of time.

I just don't know how to feel about it to be honest.

You know, I'm not like it's not a hill.

I'm going to die.

Right.

I think it's not that big of a deal.

I tend towards change.

And so I'm always going to be okay with the idea of, you know, evolving something like this.

What should evolve with time?

What Matt and Tray said I come back to about how the art of comedy is not to be taken seriously.

The moment you start to take it too serious, it stops being funny.

Right.

And that's in awards are serious.

So it's hard to.

But that's Matt and Tray.

Well, that's how some comedians feel and stuff.

I don't even know how I feel about it.

I don't think that that's awards can be taken seriously.

I don't think they have to be.

Right.

And I think that it becomes an opportunity for the comedians to show that they appreciate the recognition and they're humbled by it.

But they're not taking it seriously because why are they taking anything seriously?

They're comedians.

Yeah.

It's about being able to show still culturally what it means to be comedy.

And I will say I don't think it's comedies ever been harder.

No.

And the thing about comedy that people love and appreciate about it the most is when comedy has heart.

And I think trying to cut the recognition and the humility and stuff out of it so that comedy can be untethered.

To whatever because that's what they've been doing always.

I don't think that that's the future.

Yeah.

First it was Miss Piggy.

We just talked about that yesterday.

Yes.

And now.

Let's do it.

Jessica Rabbit is getting her own name.

Oh, yeah.

Disney is not going to be having anything to do with this though.

That's fine.

Gary Wolfe is the creator of Roger Rabbit in Toontown who framed Roger Rabbit as based on his 1981 book who censored Roger Rabbit.

Okay.

And it's actually kind of a good book.

And in a new interview he revealed that he recently got the rights to the property back from Disney.

Oh, fantastic.

How?

Listen.

Seek it.

I really got to follow into that, man.

Yeah.

You update us on that because that's really cool.

Disney don't let go of nothing.

Like the only reason they lost steam, but Willie is because of the copyright law and they aged out of it.

But this isn't that old.

No.

He must have just asked.

It might have just been, you know, the contract ended and he didn't re up.

And he's already got new projects in the works.

The one that's furthest along is the Jessica Rabbit movie.

But get this.

It's going to be live action.

It's based on his 2022 book, Jessica Rabbit, Serious Business.

And it sounds like a prequel focusing on Jessica's pre-tune life as an actual human-seeker agent in the real world.

And maybe it shows how she goes into becoming a cartoon.

But they don't mean fully live action, do they?

I don't know.

Yeah.

I don't think they even know yet.

It's still in the works.

They said so she's going to be a person until she's a cartoon.

Yeah, because I thought her character was originally a human and then turned into a cartoon.

That's possible a long time since I've seen that movie.

A long time since I saw it at the theater and I barely remember seeing it at home.

I don't remember that.

Oh, man.

I could still hear Christopher Warrer.

That's the thing I can still hear him scream.

I've been waiting for the screams to stop before I watched it again.

There are horror movies that have never haunted me.

That has screamed us.

That has screamed us.

It has screamed us.

Well-groomed scream and his face as he melts.

Yeah.

Wolf would still love Disney to be involved along with all the people who made Roger Rabbit such

as success like Steven Spielberg, Robert Semeckis and Charles Fleischer as the voice of Roger.

Okay.

But what about the voice of Jessica Rabbit?

They are really overlooking the lead here.

Yeah.

I want to enjoy this idea.

Another thing that I've rambled about plenty.

There's a lot of voices I love, a lot of voices I shout out.

Shout out to Jane Mattner, one of my favorite voices of all time.

But long before Jane or kind of for these other voices I've mentioned, I was in love with Kathleen Turner.

You know, yeah.

Did I know what Kathleen Turner looked like?

No.

Didn't matter.

Didn't matter.

It did not matter to me whatsoever.

That voice felt madly in love with her.

You have to have Kathleen.

Come on.

Come on.

Yeah.

That does it.

But also, where do I read for that character?

Yeah.

Yeah.

I don't know.

You can tell that.

I would tell that.

Yeah.

I could see that.

That seems like a fun role to play.

That's what I mean.

I think it would be a really good time.

We're going to be following that one, of course.

We'll see where that goes.

Oh, right.

As we get ready to go to our commercial break, I did want to remind everybody that you can go to wfhatr.com right now

and sign up for our newsletter.

Of course, we've got a new one coming up this week.

Be on the lookout for that.

Yeah.

It'll be in your email box later this week.

Yeah, you can sign up at wfhatr.com.

And why are you there?

You should give us a recipe.

Oh, my gosh.

I did one last night.

Did you?

I submitted the sandwich I had for dinner last night.

And I called it the day the Earth stood sandwich.

It's a great name.

Stay tuned for lots more excellent recipes where that came from.

It's a great sandwich name.

That's a great name.

It was also a great sandwich.

I love it.

I love a sandwich that I want.

I want everybody in the in the deli to hear me at order it.

I love a sandwich like that.

I love that.

That's a great one.

That's a good name.

Yep.

That's the kind and not to pry, but it didn't seem like you you have so many different recipes that you could submit.

I don't actually have recipes.

That's the thing, guys.

I love cooking.

I hate recipes.

I just kind of cook from the heart.

And it's tasty.

And so I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to just keep adding the things I'm having for dinner until the due date is up.

That due date is coming up this week, everybody.

It is.

It's Friday.

This Friday is where we're going to have to cap off.

We're going to cut off our recipes.

So get them into us before then.

Submit those recipes at WFHR.com.

Got a banner going by.

You can do it there.

If you need to reach out to us because you need to have us photocopy it or write a copy ourselves.

Whatever it takes, we will do that because we want you to be a part of this cookbook.

Yeah, you can stop on by during regular business hours when Pam is in.

She'll take copies of your recipes for you and everything.

Just be sure to get it to us before this Friday, everyone.

Looking forward to that.

Looking forward to getting them back and talking some more with everybody.

On the morning show here at WFHR.

Hey.

Welcome back, everyone.

Morning show here at WFHR.

Locally grown radio.

Hope you all are having a good one out there.

Lauren James hanging out with you.

It's true.

Thanks for hanging out with us.

So I wanted to touch on this one.

It's just an interesting article about a couple of different things.

Sure.

We are or we aren't good at.

Oh, okay.

A random poll online asked people, can you swallow a pill dry and nothing to wash it down?

Nearly 2,000 people weighed in.

Oh, it's a pretty decent number.

All right.

5% said yes.

I prefer it that way.

Oh, okay.

27% said, yeah, I can no problem.

40% said sure.

If I absolutely have to.

And so far about 72% of people say that they could do it, whether they like it or not.

13% said no.

I physically can't.

And another 13% said no.

I psychologically can't do it.

Okay.

Interesting kind of definition.

Sure.

Defying there between them.

Honestly, that's a good way to put it though.

Yeah.

And again, another one of those things that I never thought about.

I've never would have.

No.

But more people can than not.

Yeah.

Okay.

Which makes sense.

Yeah.

Should the pharmaceutical industry, did they actually miss a window here?

Like, should they have worked with a bottled water company?

Wow.

And you sell the aspirin with the bottle.

Don't give them ideas.

Well, before you know it, they will have to prescribe water.

Well, maybe this is your pill-taking water.

Maybe if they have another source of income, they won't have to overly charge us for things.

I don't know.

I'm trying to think of anything right now.

Yeah, that's a perfect world isn't it.

That's not the movie living.

How are you with these things, everybody?

I thought it was an interesting one.

Yeah.

And I'm kind of tying it into another one here regarding clocks.

Okay.

So there is no way.

A new study found.

Most people under 30 can't look at an old school clock until what time it is right away.

Okay.

So they're talking about being able to read an analog clock.

Okay.

We're talking about that, the kind with an hour and minute hands and all that.

Right.

95% of boomers and over 80% of Gen Xers can look at one and instantly know what time it is.

But barely more than half of millennials can.

And by the time you get to Gen Z, only 43% can look at a clock and no.

It takes a while for most Zoomers to figure it out.

45% said a few seconds.

6% said more time than that.

Right.

But we've also been reading analog clocks longer because we're older.

It comes to us faster.

Most Gen Zers just checked the time on their phone now, of course.

Sure.

So there's that too.

But to your point, if you go up with something, you're going to be more familiar with it.

Right.

If you don't go up with it, you're not going to be.

Right.

And let's put yourself in that position for a moment as a Zoomer.

When was the last time you saw an analog clock hanging up in a house with young kids?

And then, you know, to be on to that, right?

Like, let's say the first time they've really truly encountered an analog clock and been challenged to have to know how to read it.

Was that work?

As an adult.

Right.

And so they're kind of just figuring it out now.

And it's going to take them a long time until they're in their 30s.

And then it's easier because they've now been doing it for a decade.

Right.

I don't know.

I feel like we're being unfair.

Well, I just think it's interesting.

It is very interesting.

There's judgment for me on it or anything like that.

Sure.

I can't speak for others.

No, I just think it's interesting.

The attitude of the article.

Sure.

Sure.

I think what it...

Especially, there's no judgment for me because I'll be completely honest with everybody.

I'm not good at that.

I'm not good at reading analog clocks.

I, in school, I don't know if it was because I moved to so many different schools when they were teaching that.

You feel like you met that chapter somehow?

Or are they just...

Being honest, and this is nothing against the teachers that we had or anything like that.

I don't remember being a whole lot of time being put into this.

No pun intended.

Or, yeah, maybe pun intended.

You know what?

Except the pun when it's there.

I really don't.

So when it comes to this, I feel like it's one of those things.

It's a little bit like, do you remember who taught you how to read a clock?

Yes.

I think most of us...

Because I think most of us...

I think a lot of us don't remember those things.

Right.

But 56% of Americans still own an alarm clock.

54% have a wall clock.

33% have a smartwatch.

11% have a free standing or grandfather clock.

Oh, I love a good grandfather clock.

Or a cuckoo clock.

My grandparents used to collect them.

I love a good grandfather clock.

But if you have one, that's where we'll always stay.

Like, if I move...

Don't move it.

No, I mean...

I'm just hoping to move into another house with a grandfather clock.

Right, yeah.

It might as well be a fireplace.

Because they're going nowhere.

And 7% of us use a pocket watch.

Oh, bring that back.

The old school pocket watches with a long row.

You know, the chain hanging off.

There's a reason for a chain coming out of your pocket.

That's a cool one.

Pocket watch.

Ooh, buddy.

I don't know the kind of...

Like, as I know, I'm not cool enough to pull one off.

But I know there are people out there that are.

And I hope they are.

If you're feeling that to pull off a pocket watch.

I hope they are pulling it off.

Get that pocket watch, baby.

That's something about that.

That's a cool look.

That's a cool look there.

Do you have a preferred way of telling time?

Because I know for...

You've been in this business long enough.

And obviously being a parent, you know, time is of the essence.

Time is on your mind quite a bit.

I imagine.

I know for me...

Honestly, for what we do, I hate analog clocks.

They don't work for what we have to do.

We need something more precise than that.

Yeah, exact opposite of what we need.

Yeah, in radio, that's just what it is.

So, unfortunately, for my life, analog clocks just don't make sense.

I had to hunt one down.

I wanted a wall clock for my room.

I have intentionally purchased watches that are analog just so that I'm able to do it.

Right.

Yes.

I want to be better if not at least keep the skill.

Right.

I'm with you.

I feel that way about cursive.

Sure.

I like writing in cursive, and I know there's like 3% of us still are.

I don't know the last time.

But I want to lose it.

I honestly don't know the last time I've written anything with a pen.

Other than like forms.

I wanted to get a wall clock for my room, and I wanted one with an analog and a digital.

I mean, I didn't think that'd be a big deal.

I had to hunt that thing down.

I still haven't found one that I really like.

I just found one that actually is that.

But I don't like the clocks.

I'm not going to get it.

But I know they make some really good ones that are analog with a digital in the middle of the face.

It can't be an idea that they need that far.

No, they definitely have those kind of things.

I've been looking all over.

I just don't know what you're envisioning because they definitely have those.

When it comes to researching articles and looking into things, I tend to be pretty good at that.

But if I'm looking for something like that for myself, I don't know what it is about me and the search engine

and where the miscommunication happens, but it'll show me like alligator stuffed animals.

I'm like, I'm looking for a clock.

I don't know what goes wrong in my head and putting it on the search engine.

Is it possible that your dyslexia caused you to type the word alligator?

It is definitely that.

Thank you.

It is definitely that.

It's got to be that.

Glad I could help.

It's got to be that.

I don't know what else happens between my brain and my hands and typing it in.

But somehow it messes up when I throw it into the search engine.

I don't know.

I sent this link over to lore from ugov.com with this article.

It's got some other interesting stuff about the poll in it.

But just thought that was interesting as far as how we have grown with clocks in time.

Because it's not like time isn't significant and doesn't still matter.

No, we are still timing.

We just kind of got a little different about it.

We will take a time out, get to our news, sport, entertainment and partner break.

When we come back, we have the 10 best and worst cities for veterans to live.

All right.

Coming up on the morning show.

Welcome back everyone.

Morning show here at WFHR, locally grown radio.

Lauren James hanging out with you.

Hello.

Thanks for hanging out with us.

Yes.

Today is Veterans Day.

And one of the best ways you can think veterans is certainly to be aware of your surroundings,

where of your community, aware of your state.

Yeah.

How do they handle veterans issues?

How do they handle veterans?

We are constantly in a political cycle.

Unfortunately.

There is no time off anymore.

When it comes to these individuals that are, I believe, getting back to work today,

when it comes to that, how are they voting?

How are they, where do they stand on them?

And where do they stand for veterans' rights and help and assistance and needs?

And please, please, everybody, do not think that just because somebody is a former vet,

that they are backing vet issues.

Those are not the same thing.

We've got some people in this state that are, are, are supposed to be representing our veterans that are not.

It's true.

And that is coming from our veterans.

That's not coming from me.

That's not an opinion.

That's fact.

Yep.

And looking into these things is another one of those things to consider today on this day of all every day,

but especially on a day like this of, hey, what can I do for my veterans?

Well, voting people in the office that are going to look out for our veterans.

I think it's a, I think the important thing is to look beyond politic.

Please look at the policy.

I just look at what the policy that the politician is putting forth so that you can understand their politics.

But don't just take them at face value saying, no, I'm green.

No, I'm yellow.

No, I'm red and blue.

It's, look at what their platform is.

Look at what their policies that they're suggesting are.

You know, there's, there's some people out there that will try to, kind of try to twist things sometimes.

Like, especially when it comes to our station and what we do, we are a democracy station.

We are a pro-democracy news party station.

We are not anybody's pocket.

We are not democratic.

We are not Republican.

We are not independent.

We are our own thing.

And anybody that tries to tell you different has something to sell.

They're trying to sell something.

No.

Whether they're actual businessmen or not, we have worked 85 years to maintain that.

And we ain't changing for anybody.

We are not in anyone's pocket and we're not going to be.

No, and civic media has given all of their hosts the allowance to voice where they're at genuinely and authentically.

And that is what they do.

When it comes to these issues, back to people that are backing our veterans, supporting our vets.

It's not that difficult.

And that does not mean just because they wave an American flag around or they got 80 flags on their car or something like that.

That's not the same one.

Quit.

That American flag is supposed to be done to use something with respect.

It's for all of us.

It's all of ours.

That's my flag as much as it is yours.

And these are things I think to keep in mind on veterans day along with every other day.

Researchers recently looked into the best places in America for veterans.

And they ranked the 100 biggest cities in the country based on 19 relative factors.

Things like the veteran population, how many businesses they own and how many job opportunities they have,

veteran unemployment and housing affordability, quality of life, and the quality of the VA facilities.

Oh, good.

All I think of really, you know, we do a lot of these.

Those are really good criteria.

That's a pretty good one.

The top 10 cities for veterans are Austin, Texas.

Tampa, Florida.

Madison, Wisconsin.

That's right.

Yeah.

Raleigh, North Carolina.

Gotta love saying Raleigh.

It's one of my favorite cities.

It's a lovely place.

It's a great place.

It is a beautiful place.

I ran a red light there once.

Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Virginia Beach, Virginia, Orlando, Florida.

St. Petersburg, Florida, Irvine, California, and Fort Worth, Texas.

That all sounds right, honestly.

I think there's a lot of bases nearby those.

Yes.

Yes.

Not surprising to see Texas represented twice in here.

Florida represented twice in here for those that know about these things.

Like I said, all of those towns are nearby, pretty significant bases.

And so a lot of the veterans in the area probably worked on those bases or, you know,

were in some way associated with those bases.

And they liked the location enough to settle down there when they retired.

That's what it says to me.

And how about Madison, Wisconsin showing up third on this list?

Take some pride in that one, Wisconsinites.

Yeah.

We did that.

Could be better.

Could always be better.

That's what they keep in mind.

It could be better, but it means that legislatively we've been thinking thoughtfully about our veterans and their needs.

And that's a win.

That's pretty darn cool.

Yeah.

And the 10 worst cities for veterans are Newark, New Jersey, Detroit, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Memphis, Toledo, Ohio, Indianapolis.

Baltimore, Stockton, California, Fresno, California, and Chicago.

All right.

There are, and there are some bases near some of those, but some of those cities do not have large military installations near them.

I know both my grandfather's vets and both of them Chicagoans.

And this was something, part of the reason you hear me bark so much about vet issues is it really comes from those two.

I'm a megaphone of those two spirits and they talked a lot about that in the city.

And a lot about how RVFWs and those things needed more attention in the city and Chicago.

You know, I only speak on that one because it's the only one of these cities that I've actually been to and I could speak on.

Well, upon further inspection once I'm looking at it, I think there are military installations by the other cities as well.

But I think it's a matter of the type of branches that are represented in those cities.

The higher ranked ones have more air force or navy bases near them.

The other ones have more army bases near them.

And I think that that is, that speaks to the culture of the different branches a little bit.

And the care that they give to their enlisted.

And it gets kind of interesting here.

The city in the exact center at 50 out of 100, washing in DC.

Yeah.

It's just ahead of Seattle and San Francisco just behind Cincinnati and St. Louis.

All right.

Waldhub.com has the complete list for you, everybody.

No, that sounds right.

Honestly, because the thing about Washington DC is yeah, there's a whole lot there and it's a beautiful place.

And it really does have a lot of what you're looking for.

But then there's also the politics of it all.

And nobody wants to live in a place as politically charged as well, not no one.

But you know what I mean?

Yeah.

Not as many people want to live in a place as politically charged as Washington DC just at its natural state.

Every year we add on to a military's budget.

Yeah.

Every year.

Yeah.

We spend three to four times more than any other country in the world.

But it's not going to the members of the enlisted service.

But we don't put enough into our vets.

How does that sense to anybody?

We don't even put them into the enlisted people that are currently working.

I get alone the vets.

And we wonder why this society is so high for our vets.

Yeah.

It's going to armaments.

It's going to machinery.

It's going to things that do not serve the people.

Some Veterans Day deals going around today from some of the bigger businesses out there.

It looks like that Applebee's has a good deal going on.

It's good.

I have one of those near yet.

They've always got lots of good deals on Veterans Day for vets.

Yeah.

Just look them up.

You can find a thousand lists of these things.

Krispy Kreme's got one.

Veterans in active duty military personnel.

Oh, thank goodness.

Get a free small hot or iced coffee and a free donut of their choice.

That's a good one.

Yeah.

I mentioned them because they always do a good deal.

They usually do.

They usually do.

Not by 20 get the 21st free or something.

That's not a deal.

I'm so tired of that deal.

You buy four of anything.

You better give me a fifth free.

I don't care what it is.

That's right.

I'll care if I buy four tires.

I want a fifth free.

What?

What you going to do with that fifth tire, my guy?

Deep.

I'll go put it on the back.

Yeah.

You are.

Again, thank you to all of our veterans out there.

We appreciate you.

We got some Veterans Day events going on in our area.

One of the touch on those for a second here before we go to break.

So kicking off in about 15 minutes.

There is a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Park in downtown Wisconsin Rapids.

At one o'clock, there'll be a legacy stone dedication at Assumption High School at Chestnut Street.

And at three o'clock, a Veterans Day observance with rededication of the Veterans Memorial at Midstate Techno College

on 32nd Street North right here in Rapids, all these events taking place.

We got a lot of great communities in our area and a lot of communities surrounding us.

I imagine many of them have other Veterans Day events going on.

Exactly.

You can call up and tell us about them if you'd like.

Otherwise, encourage you to out there to reach to find out about those Veterans activities and be a part of them.

Yeah.

We will take a quick time out.

We'll come back and wrap up the show Morning Show at WFHR.

Welcome back, everyone.

Morning Show here at WFHR.

Locally grown, Radio, Laura and James hanging out with him.

Yep.

Thanks for hanging out with us.

As listeners and radio, we appreciate you.

We got some great things going on in our area.

We're going to touch on those Veterans activities in a moment when I get to our schedule first.

We got a great rapper support lined up for you today, everybody.

We do.

Our head producer of the show, Laura, put together a nice one.

Oh, I did.

We're going to be speaking with our good friend Abby from Hardwood, Wisconsin, Chamber of Commerce.

That's right.

Abby's been doing great.

She has.

She's been a lot of fun working with her.

Looking forward to her coming in, telling us about all these great events going on in their area.

You got quite a few of them coming up.

Yeah, we do.

It is a marathon from now until the beginning of the year.

So we'll be talking about those with Abby and our Hardwood, Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce.

And in part two, it's Reality Radio with David Farmer.

It sure is.

David's got a great topic for us today.

We'll be diving into that a little bit later.

Very good.

Be sure to check the pods at WFHR.com, everybody.

And while you're over there, go ahead and set up for that newsletter and give us that recipe.

Ooh, yeah, you should do that.

Do it.

Do it.

Get it over there.

I'll get another one in tonight.

Great basketball.

It's a ball night.

Oh, seven o'clock tonight Wisconsin men's basketball hosting ball state.

Men's Badger team has been playing great so far this season.

Oh, that's good.

Both them and the men's hockey teams are just playing really good.

It's been a lot of fun.

Well, that's nice.

Be sure to check that out tonight at right here at WFHR.

Seven o'clock.

Looking forward to it.

Yeah.

As we get into local events going on in the area, I didn't want to touch on this one.

As long as I can remember, our friends at Tri-City Services have worked with us here at WFHR.

They're great.

They've been a long relationship with them.

We love work with them.

Great people over there.

Absolutely.

Good morning to our friends at Tri-City Services.

You go, stop over there, say hi for us.

And if you can, give thanks.

Give back.

They have a Thanksgiving food drive going on.

Help us share the warmth of the season.

They're collecting non-parasable food items to help local families enjoy comfortable Thanksgiving meal.

They're collecting now until November 25th.

You can drop things off wherever at their location at 321-4th Avenue North here in Rapids.

They're open 730-430 Monday through Friday.

They have some suggestions, canned vegetables and fruits, canned gravy, stuffed stuffing mix, instant potatoes.

Thank you, thank you.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Items donated to Focus Food Pantry.

Everything can count.

For every item donated, Tri-City Services will donate $1 an item.

You know they're very cool.

To focus to the Focus Food Pantry.

So get on over there and help them help everyone.

Talk about above and beyond.

That's awesome.

Together we can make this Thanksgiving a little brighter for our neighbors in need.

Absolutely.

Big time shout out to Tri-City Services doing that.

Absolutely.

Appreciate our friends.

Bi-local support, local support people that support our community over.

Until the 25th, right?

Yeah, they're doing that until November 25th.

We'll be sure to mention this throughout the time in between now and then.

And wanted to remind everybody that tomorrow morning from 730-930 they got here American Heroes Cafe going on.

That's right.

This will happen over a cross-view church right here in Rapids.

All veterans, military, police and firefighters are welcome.

Yeah, they are.

Come on, bye.

Get a nice cup of coffee.

Hang around people that can really relate to you.

Mm-hmm.

Everything, it's such a great event.

American Heroes Cafe going on.

Tomorrow 730-930 over cross-view church here in Rapids.

This is the only one for the month.

Is this?

That's right.

And I'm not sure.

I don't remember if they're doing one in December.

I can't remember.

I can't remember and I know Tom told us sorry Tom.

Ah, sorry Tom.

I know it's on the...

We're the worst.

Yeah.

It's fine.

But you know what, we'll have Tom in next month and let us know.

Oh, we will.

He'll let us know.

Big shout out to Tom.

Mm-hmm.

And we had the Y in yesterday.

No, we haven't.

Our good friends at the South of County YMCA.

Shout out to Ms. Verouink.

Yes.

I always love talking with her.

I love having her.

Do you see a ring she had on too?

No, I didn't.

Blinging it.

That was a little good.

That was a nice ring.

Maybe being impressed by her Packers jacket.

Did that too.

That was pretty rocking too.

So the Y is doing a couple of cool things over the next couple of weeks.

They have a couple of fundraisers.

Pop a Murphy's fundraiser, grab a bite and give back.

20% of your total orders purchase will be donated to the South of County YMCA Gymnastics Team

fundraiser.

How cool.

This is going on November 12th.

So it's happening tomorrow.

Oh, awesome.

So get some pizza.

You got your dinner covered tomorrow.

You don't even have to worry about dinner.

Get in pop a Murphy's.

That rocks.

And then coming up at Arby's, they're going to be having one on 16th this Sunday.

So help raise some funds.

One bite of the time at Arby's.

Again, 10% of the proceeds will help out the South of County YMCA Gymnastics Team.

Very cool.

We got a great Gymnastics team.

Gymnastics is great.

It's a wonderful thing for kids.

So get some Arby's this weekend.

Yeah.

And from 5 to 8, know that 10% of the food will go into the YMCA Gymnastics fund.

Big shout out to them.

Absolutely.

And the Assumption High School's production of Sister Act will be happening on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Friday night at 7 p.m.

And then Saturday's got two showings at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m.

You can get your tickets by visiting AssumptionCatholicSchools.org or by calling 715-422-0910.

Break a leg, kids.

Yes, break a leg, kids.

This is going to be so.

It's going to be so cool.

Yeah.

And the Macmillan Concert Series is happening also on Thursday from 7 to 9.30 p.m.

in the Fine Arts Center at Macmillan Memorial Library.

You can watch Brian Drow.

He is best described as a pop folk artist with a large dose of blues, rock, and country influences.

This show is free.

And it comes with a complimentary button.

Yeah.

I love that they're doing that.

Yep.

Seth was saying people are...

Collect them all.

Collect them all.

Collect them all.

Yep.

They worked really hard to bring these acts to town.

It's so cool that they do it.

And again, the concerts are free.

Like, these are really cool creative artists that are making really cool, interesting music.

And they're coming to our library for free.

My mom got along with everybody really good over at Macmillan, so I'm sure they knew this.

She wanted to...

She would always try to work Thursday nights so she could hear the music.

Why not?

I bet everyone there does that.

Sure.

Yeah.

Big shout out to our friends over at Macmillan.

Yeah, absolutely.

Appreciate them.

And the Wood County Rifle and Pistol Club is sponsoring a public sight and date.

You can bring out your hunting rifle and ammo and they're going to help you if needed.

Yeah.

All are welcome whether you could use the help or not.

They're doing this at the outdoor range of 3350 range road right here in Rapids.

It's going on this Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 3.

Awesome.

Great opportunity to come on by.

Maybe even share some information.

Check out what they're all about.

Maybe give them a donation if it feels right.

But they'd really appreciate it if you could.

And we appreciate it if you can because the Wood County Rifle and Pistol Club doing things right over there.

We appreciate that.

And it's really cool to be doing this on the verge of hunting season.

It's smart.

It's good job.

Stop by and certainly have some fun and definitely throw in a donation if you can.

Absolutely.

And one more time I did want to mention those Veterans Day events going on.

Veterans Day ceremony of Veterans Park in downtown Wisconsin Rapids is kicking off in just minutes.

Yeah, head on over there.

It starts at 11.

When a clock legacy stone dedication is assumption high school on Chestnut Street.

And at 3 o'clock the Veterans Day observance with rededication of the Vetson Memorial at mid state technical college on 32nd Street North.

All right.

All great events encourage you to attend all of them if you can.

Or at least one of them or at minimum think of it.

A family in Ohio adopted a now four year old boy just one year ago and they've noticed a big change.

He was timid and withdrawn before and would barely speak.

As an infant he suffered cardiac arrest due to malnutrition.

Sure.

And that left him with development challenges.

Yeah.

Now he laughs easily and his confidence is built building and he caught them by surprise while they were filming themselves stringing up Christmas lights in the kitchen.

I'm promptly he blurted out.

I love doing this.

This is the best life.

How cute is a wonderful little video that is going on.

And they're just doing you know regular stuff.

But for him this is in gigantic.

This is so huge.

Because he's only been with them for a year.

This might just be his second Christmas with them.

It's a beautiful little a little palette cleanser.

You know you could use a smile today.

I think that one will bring it to you.

Horses and swimming pools do not mix.

A couple weeks ago two police officers in Kentucky.

Kentucky had to lead a horse out of a swimming pool using a garden hose as a makeshift lasso.

Yeah.

Meanwhile in Virginia fire fighters came to the rescue of a 900 pound horse that fell into a pool.

They built a ramp in the water and wrapped the horse with a harness so it could be pulled up the ramp to dry land.

We are certainly trying to honor our veterans today and everything.

But I think it doesn't hurt to mention some of the work that our officers are doing out there.

Even horses from swimming pools.

They're not exactly vets.

But they're asked to be in many ways.

There's something I would say that there's a level of veteran to what they are.

Yeah.

It really is.

It's something we can know whenever we get the chance.

In a woman Ohio named Nancy pushed the wrong button on a lottery vending machine.

Oh dear.

But won the chance to be on the lottery's cash explosion TV show.

Oh.

She wound up winning $750,000, $750,000.

Very cool.

In the first round of the show and scored another 50 Gs in the second chance.

Wow.

Hey.

All right.

Why do accidents like that never happen to me?

Right.

I have never accidentally earned $500,000.

That seems.

And how does that show up on your taxes?

I could use it.

Where do you put the accidental?

I would use it so thoughtfully.

50 Gs on my tax report.

Or if it's accidental, is it like a no arm no foul?

You don't got to say anything.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works.

She's definitely got to pay taxes on those.

But still.

Yeah.

Definitely, definitely.

And there are a lot of good veteran stories out there.

There's a lot of good work.

Our veterans are doing out there.

Absolutely.

There is the rhino in the glue on shoes.

A story by Lucy Pease Bellman.

A book of surprising true stories from a veterinarian.

And I bet.

I'm sorry, I bet.

Okay.

There's a lot of great books out there on this subject.

And there's a lot of great good stories out there.

Sure.

Encourage people to hunt down and look.

I didn't have the time to give you ever one of these or anything.

But if you go to goodnewsnetwork.org,

you will find a lot of them.

Yeah.

There's a lot of good ones.

And there's a lot of good local ones.

There are.

We send a shout out to all of our local vets in our area.

Absolutely.

We greatly appreciate it.

You've heard them on the air with us many times.

You have.

We've had a handful of them.

You've even heard them during new emiluses news break and stuff in that.

There's plenty of time and plenty.

Your area, no matter where you live, no matter where you're listening to us,

you've got vets.

You do.

And you've got individuals putting into the community.

It's true.

Have their back like they've had ours.

A big thank you again to our veterans out there for having our back.

We appreciate you.

We see you.

Thank you.

We do.

Again, in just minutes that veterans day ceremony, a veterans part,

but kicking off in downtown Wisconsin Rapids.

Uh-huh.

Good show, Laura.

Same to you.

Be good to each other out there.

This is locally grown radio.
