I did want to mention today is a disabled Americans veterans day.

This is a day of, forget me, a national forget me day.

Forget me not day.

Is a day created to remember our disabled veterans and our soldiers coming over, coming back from war and what they have been through.

It's also the Marine Corps birthday.

So simplify and a number of different things that we wanted to note there.

And along with all of that, it is Sesame Street day.

Cool.

Very cool.

Today, one of the more integral programs of all time.

I think one of the most influential shows of all time.

There are plenty, plenty of generations out there listening to us right now that grew up or were impacted by Sesame Street in one way or another.

If anything, we're all taken recently with a pigeon talk and pigeon conversation.

I love pigeons and I love how they walk.

And I've created a really cool dance called doing the pigeon.

Things like that were brought to us, of course, by Sesame Street and many of others.

Many others.

The PBS charity Next Avenue did a list a while back of Sesame Street lessons.

Adults should never forget.

Okay.

We're going to get into a couple of those.

Those will be fun too.

Right now.

Just looking at some breaking news there.

As far as lessons that they learn, this is the list that the charity Next Avenue came up with.

I want to add any that we can throw a show today as they pop in our mind and we think of them and everything.

Different lessons that we learn from Sesame Street.

There was an old episode where Ernie wanted to play sax but wouldn't let go of his rubber ducky.

I remember this one.

Now what this meant don't take on too much.

If you want to try something new, you might need to leave something behind for now and that's okay.

This one is favorite things.

It could also have just been as simple as just trying to literally pick up too much at once.

And that and try to do too many things.

There's several lessons there.

Friends matter.

They've done countless skills about it and it's true for adults too.

More and more studies have found staying social as you age can keep you happy, healthy and extend your life.

100%.

And I was never any good at making friends as a kid.

I have only gotten worse as an adult.

It's one of those things.

That's a great one right there.

You want to throw a caveat on that one because I think if it's social media that you're doing, it's actually the opposite of that.

I don't think it's healthy.

We're talking like actual social interaction.

Well it depends.

Because the thing about social media is that it opens up the opportunity for you to be friends with people that are farther away.

And if you are a person and they are a person who is able to maintain a close personal friendship in that way, then social media is great.

But if you guys are not those kinds of people, it's not.

There's always exceptions and you're very right on that.

Because I do have friends that I don't social media typically, but I once did.

And I developed a lot of friendships from people all over the world.

And I missed them.

So I have recently gone back to a social media just to talk to some of them because it was important to me.

Sure.

I will only be friends with people from out of the country.

Yeah that sounds right.

Just safer.

It's just easier that way.

Uh huh.

Never have to make plans and kids.

That's true.

That's the thing right there.

Makes more sense for me.

Celebrate yourself.

Kids are great at celebrating themselves, but we tend to get more critical and reserved about it as we get older.

Remember to give yourself a pat on the back when you deserve one or even when you don't think you deserve it.

Yeah.

Here's the thing.

How many of us when we were kids?

Do you remember being a kid and that voice in your head of doubt, that voice in your head that can be so critical of you?

Where was that when we were kids?

I don't remember that.

I see you more of a learning behavior, right?

It seems like something that grows and becomes more of a more of a thing the older we get to when we talk about acting young or remembering,

you know, having a little youth in us or something like that.

These are the things that I think of that joy of life that you have when you're young or the idea of being open to more things.

And one of the bigger ones is the beating ourselves up.

Yeah.

I think more times, like there are so many people in my life that don't even give me a hard time when I do something wrong because they know I'm beating myself up worse than anything they could ever say or do.

And that's my mom.

I'm joking.

I'm joking.

My mother will never stop particularly.

No, I was going to say we had that conversation.

When it comes to the critiquing we do in our own heads, it is one of my biggest hills that I will die on.

And the idea of that is not you, that is not your voice, that is not your head, that is not your conscience, that is your fight or flight mechanism that is trying to keep you alive.

It doesn't need to work overtime anymore, but it doesn't know any other way.

It only knows what to do in these instances.

Your brain has not evolved from caveman days.

It still thinks the saber two tigers coming after you.

It has not changed from that.

So when it comes to beating ourselves up, nobody's better at it than ourselves.

I mean, there are a handful of things that stand out, narcissists and some of those kind of things.

But I almost guarantee you that this is a better life than that.

I look at it a little bit differently for me.

Those words are not mine.

Those thoughts are not words that I have said to me first.

Those are thoughts that I have because someone has said those words to me before.

Those are someone else's words.

And I try and remember whose words they were and why they're not in my life anymore.

And it helps me not take it so personally.

When it comes to that for me, part of that came from Sesame Street.

Because I couldn't get past any of the stuff in my head or anything like that, understanding the science of it.

When I talk about that stuff, I'm not talking in theories or anything.

This is stuff that I've actually done the homework on.

And they've brained that, you know, actual neurologists have discovered and figured out about us.

And why we are so hard on ourselves and everything.

It's something that I think the more and more we talk about, the more and more, maybe you can quiet that voice up.

Or at least understand what that voice is trying to tell you.

It's not necessarily trying to tell you, oh, you suck.

Oh, my God, are you bad at that?

Don't ever do that again because you are really bad at it.

Better yet, don't do anything ever again.

You're just bad at things.

It thinks that you might die if you do said thing.

You know, like, oh, I'm horrible at singing, but I really want to sing.

So I'm going to sing.

Where your brain is telling you, no, no, no, no, you can die.

You can die. Don't do that.

But it's not, you know, we understand.

I'm not going to die if I sing.

I'm not going to die from embarrassment.

I'm not going to, it'll be okay.

It's in the more of that that you do, your brain is learning that, oh, this is okay.

And you're teaching yourself these things.

That's a mystery street.

Much like, I would say critical thinking, Sesame Street letters, numbers, those kind of things.

The basics, you know, that kind of thing.

Reading, the writing, the arithmetic.

So many great writers and creatives on those shows coming up with lessons and how to,

and not one of the bigger things that they did too.

And I actually use a different cartoon as an example for this, but blues clues.

And Steve and how we got the job and everything and that story of the guy, they had a guy

who was 20 times handsomer than him and had, you know, Thespian, you know, work had done.

I'm praying a great job.

But the kids just weren't into him.

But he came out and talked to the kid, talked at the kids and said, hey, this, this, this,

and what you need to do.

Steve came out and looked at the kids and said, oh my God, what do we do?

How do we figure this out?

It's talking to kids.

Sesame Street were the first to do that.

Mr. Roger shortly after, but Sesame Street really got the ball rolling on that hole.

I don't know.

I'm not just going to talk to kids.

I'm going to talk with kids.

I'm going to listen to kids.

Hey, kids got to bring too.

Hey, kids actually see the world a little bit better in some ways than us.

Well, that's what I was going to give for some of that.

I mean, 1969, man.

It's been around since 1969.

And it's been doing this.

I mean, it's, it's really, truly remarkable.

I think some of the greatest lessons that they taught too were organic,

when they would lose somebody that was a mainstay on the show or something

and teaching the kids about death and some of that.

When, uh, Mr., was it Hooper or Hopper?

Mr. Erwin.

Mr. Erwin.

Mr. Erwin.

When he died, yeah, they didn't, they didn't just replace him.

They said, no, they were going to talk about him passing away.

We're going to say goodbye.

We're going to talk about death on a kid's show.

Right.

There's been two about them.

I understand how silly this is to say,

but there was something so relatable to be about Muppets.

There was, there was a, it wasn't just Super Grover.

Like a little bit, a little bit better.

I know why I related to the Muppets.

The, um, they, they, they were, what Henson did with these creatures,

these characters, along with many, many other creatives and everything,

um, is been normalized a bit.

But it, it's such a, like a puppet that we know is a fake puppet.

And even a child probably knows it is a fake real, right?

Right.

Everyone knows.

But there is such a care and a relationship built.

Right.

Right.

These animals, almost everybody has a favorite Muppet.

It's, it's wild to think of.

People like Permit the Frog.

People love Elmo.

People love Big Bird.

I love Snuff Olympias.

Snuff is the man.

We have to give the puppeteers a lot of credit for that too.

Yeah, we do.

Because of all the personality and talent and everything.

Oh my gosh.

Those, those, those guys.

And they were mostly guys.

Uh, did such a fantastic job.

Mm-hmm.

One of the more cool things I think to see is the behind-the-scenes footage.

Oh, of them.

Really?

Down there working the Muppets.

Yeah.

The first time I saw, like a diagram of what it looked like to be the people inside of a Big Bird.

Mm-hmm.

It was just, I changed my world.

And if you think about it at her age, she's only getting better.

So I don't know if we've seen the best work of Margaret Roby yet.

And she makes a perfect Harley Quinn.

Whether he's able to accomplish this or not, I honestly, that's his business.

I'm so blown away by a human being doing this and trying to accomplish this that he's already won to me.

He's already accomplished something to me.

He's made it so far from where he began.

It's just incredible story.

I encourage people to look into it.

That's really cool.

And the good work that he's doing along with it too.

He's bringing a lot of awareness and attention to a lot of great causes.

And I wanted to get to this story because I want us to be cool.

There's a wellness trend going viral called dark showering.

Okay.

You have to say it like that.

It's simple.

A normal shower.

But first, you flip the lights off so you can't see anything.

You mean my migraine showers?

Then I take three times a week?

Oh, you just have a different name for it.

Okay.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Dark shower sounds way better than migraine showers.

It really does.

It does.

Dark showering sounds like a late 70s show.

Like they came out like they would be on it like 10 to 11 o'clock at night.

Right.

They didn't scare anybody.

No.

They were supposed to scare people but didn't scare anybody.

Dark showering.

So two or like an Edward film.

Like it says like one of the other.

Two main things come to mind.

Why?

Well, various doctors, quote unquote, doctors.

Doctor, I'm sorry, doctor types.

That's why it's important.

Oh, okay.

Very good.

My microphone was covered in one part.

Various doctor types claim that it's a sensory change.

It's a sensory change that can improve your sleep.

If you shower at night before bed.

Oh, sure.

Bright lights tend to wake your brain up.

That makes sense.

That part.

Yeah, that's it.

By cutting the lights, you can have the opposite effect.

Low light or no light signals safely.

Activates the parasymmic, parasymmic, nervous system.

And begins the body's natural descent into rest and repair mode.

Of course, you can do this without the shower part.

Right.

Just dim your room light.

Like, you know, yeah, I've been hearing that for a couple of times.

Seriously, yeah.

I remember that.

Listen, dark showers are nice.

You also want to avoid blue light, like from your phone or computer screens.

If that is something that keeps you awake.

Warm red light, not blue light.

And then there's, isn't showering in the dark insufficient and dangerous.

Yes, definitely.

If you want to hop on the trend of dark showering, you should probably start by showering under low light so you can still see.

If it's too dark, you might not get completely clean or you could create a mess.

There is also being a clutz in the shower.

Sure, okay.

But all of those things are factors with the lights on too.

And if you happen to be someone whose vision is as bad as mine,

every shower is that dangerous and risky.

So like, lights on or off is kind of irrelevant to this point.

It feels that way, right?

I can't even see my hands.

It doesn't matter.

Wow, I guess, yeah, if you're blind, I guess you're always doing dark showers,

but you know, washing myself thoroughly with or without vision.

I don't do it by smell.

I can't, I don't know what exactly.

Yeah, right.

That's it.

That's too much.

It's effective.

It's like, what part of me is effective?

There's water running.

What are you going to do with snort your shower?

I didn't know it was possible, but somehow James drowned in the shower.

Apparently, he was trying to go by sets of smell.

He was smelling his calves.

He was looking up at the ground.

We had a way to go.

I mean, I guess.

I feel like there's also a lot of other factors here that make it positive or negative

that I would discover in all the wrong ways.

All the worst of ways.

This does not also keep it, this doesn't bring up the biggest factor of the shower,

the shower curtain, the evil evil evil evil.

Here we go.

We're back to the shower curtain.

Don't touch me.

Don't touch me.

In my life, I've never met a good shower curtain there.

I said it.

They're all handsy.

Every last one of them.

That was a deep cut callback right there.

I don't think you've mentioned that for like a year, dude.

That's amazing that we got back to the shower curtain.

Wow.

That wasn't a tent.

By the way, I'm going to throw one little thing in here.

The fact that, okay.

Anyway, the fact that one thing that may be keeping you from falling asleep is the fact that water is running on you.

The darkness will help me get ready for sleep, except that you're under running water.

You can't sleep under running water.

No, you're just trying to relax.

And it's getting the war.

It relax afterwards, not during the shower.

You got to wait till it's done and then you can relax.

You're not making sense.

Have you guys ever fallen asleep in the shower?

More than once.

My first apartment, it was just a stall.

It was one of those kind of showers and everything.

And I don't remember what it was.

It was probably a migraine.

I fell asleep in there.

And I was so thankful it wasn't a tub.

I'm so drunk.

Yeah, right.

It was bad.

It was bad.

I didn't even know how long I was out.

My more tub.

I was laying in the tub in the shower and fell asleep.

I don't even know.

If James should be taking showers, I'm worried about it.

It might not be...

Just get a damp cloth and you know, wake yourself up.

It just shows how much I care about others that I do.

Then he's still risking it all to take a shower.

You're welcome, everybody.

Clearly, my showers are risky, too.

I want no risk when I take my showers.

Zero.

I want to be as safe as I possibly can because I am not buying it in the shower.

In the light.

I'm not going to die in a shower.

I'll tell you that right now.

Speaking of safety, I love the idea of your refusal.

All places I'm going to die, it will not be the shower.
