farther up north where there is still a blizzard warning up in the Ashland area.

Are you still getting catalogs?
I know we've talked about it a few times, but I want to know your input.
What's something you still buy from a catalog?
And again, maybe you probably just browse.
I really doubt that anybody
still like rips the little form out of the middle of the catalog and in teeny tiny boxes puts in the the catalog number and the size and the quantity and then puts it in that cheap envelope, you know, with the the glue, you know, this little glue strip that tastes like the bottom of your shoe and males.
I'm sure that doesn't happen, but you still use it for browsing purposes, right?
And then maybe you get a discount code that comes with the catalog.
What's your experience with that?
Because I'm I'm still getting plenty of them here.

No, you know, which one I want to know if it works or not, because I see it in every one of the catalogs and I see it here as well, is it'll take your old photo negatives and digitize them.
Now, for people Parker's age, when I say photo negatives, I mean the cameras once upon a time used film.
Yes.
when you developed the film you would get this thing back called a negative and you could make more prints off of them.
And we have a fire safe.
It used to keep a lot of valuable documents but now like basically everything's in the cloud.
The one thing that's definitely in our fire safe is a big box of negatives.
All the photos we took from the pre-digital era.
So from basically 2000 going back to the
late 1960s are in there.
I'd love to have those things digitized, but I'm afraid of paying for something that's just going to not work and break my heart.
So yeah, I don't know.
I don't know.
But some there's just so many gadgets, so many catalogs.
So I'd kind of like to know, do you still use a catalog for your shopping?
Do you have one that you're like, yep, I wait for that thing to arrive and I order stuff out of there and you'll recall last week.
I told you mine, uh, there's, there's one for cringles.
I think it's O and H out of Racine.
I ordered cringles out of there for some folks and send it your way.

And again, this is showing my age, but the old Sears catalog, the old JC penny catalog, these things were as big as phone books.
Uh, for people, Parker's age and younger phone books were these things that they published and everybody's phone number was in it for a landline.
parkers age a landline was a phone that was attached to the wall anyway Yeah, the Sears catalog the JC penny catalog around Christmas time you get that Christmas catalog and oh And you'd be going through that thing looking for you and you know your parents would be like okay circle the things you want and you know including clothes and pajamas not just toys and It one of the things I've always said is that Sears and these other major retailers
They really had no business going out of business because look at Amazon it started as a bookstore and now it's got everything and I don't know why Sears and the others didn't just kind of evolve that way and you think well Nobody does that well.
I saw an example last night on the news QVC
Now, I don't know who sits and watches QVC is as a cable channel to buy things anymore.
I'd be surprised.
Honestly, I'd be surprised if anybody does.
But what have they figured out?
Do you know why they're suddenly hot again?
They're on TikTok.
Ooh.
So you just take all the same stuff, shall we say, and you aim it toward the youths that way.
And they're getting orders again.
And I look at like a Sears and I go, why didn't you just evolve with the times?
You know?

We really should make a podcast out of our off air meetings.
Roger says on Facebook, I get an occasional catalog from places I initially ordered from online.

that's a
good point.
You order something online and suddenly now you're getting their catalog all the time.
Again, not that you're going to order from the catalog, but you're going to use the catalog as, you know, incentive to go to the website.
and get something there.
So that's what we're wondering today is, do you do any of your shopping still out of a catalog?
And you can also tell us, you know, your, your recommendations, some that you have particularly good experience from.
I, for example, for mine, so much of what I, what I like in the Orvis catalog for men's clothing, I always like to see that.
You may have something of a favorite of yours as well.
We'd love to hear about catalogs today.
All right, in the news.
Here's something we're going to talk about in a little bit.
Are you familiar with the line what's good for the goose is good for the gander or sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, however you use that saying.
Today, we're going to talk about it in political karma.
It might take 14 years, as it did with today's top story, but it's here now for the Republicans who rigged our state's congressional maps all those years ago.
So you're going to want to stick around as we talk about that.
In our seven o'clock hour, we're going to talk to State Senator Jeff Smith and Representative Christian Phelps, both of the Eau Claire area, both very involved in educational policy in the Wisconsin legislature.
They heard us talking last week, two members of the Blue Ribbon Commission from 2017 on reforming school funding.
A lot of good ideas in there still sitting on the shelf and they want to come in and say this in so many words.
Those ideas can still be put into play.
They can still be put into action.
All you need is the political will in the legislature to do it, or perhaps you need a new legislature.
So give a listen to their ideas, the things that they'd like to have done, and then assess whether your state assembly representative and state senator could be part of the solution, or if they insist on continuing to be part of the problem.
All right, looking at the weather right now, and I wanted to put off talking about it, but I can't.
I mean, these winds, the winds woke me up about 330 this morning.
They were just howling.
Here's some current conditions for a few places around Wisconsin.
Here in the Chippewa Valley right now, it's 27 degrees.
And again, disregard the temperatures because temps are going to drop like a rock.
from here on out all through the Thanksgiving weekend.
It's just going to be very, very cold.
27 right now, a northwest wind sustained at 20 with gusts to 37 miles an hour.
It feels even more sometimes.
It sounds like more sometimes.
In La Crosse right now, 32 degrees, a west wind at 30, gusting to 41 with some light snow.
Richland Center is also at 32, a northwest wind at 22, gusting to 38.
Wisconsin Rapids, you're at 34 right now.
A west wind of 10 gusting to 21 and you're still getting some light rain, it says here based on where you are in this system as it spins all across Wisconsin right now.
Oshkosh is at 34 and they only have cloudy skies and a southwest wind at 14 to 24 miles an hour.
But then there's Ashland and when when asking about whether the snow fell, Tony puts up on YouTube, I think all of the snow fell.
It might not be done yet from what I'm seeing here because as of 3 a.m.
the National Weather Service says a blizzard warning will remain in effect for Ashland and Iron Counties until 6 a.m.
tomorrow.
Additional snow accumulations in the Hurley, Ashland and other areas of 13 to 20 inches except Northern Iron County where they're going to get 20 to 30 additional inches of snow.
Wind gusts as high as 45 miles an hour.
Now, they know that this stuff is coming.
They thrive on the tourism, but it doesn't make it any less easy to have to drive through and everything.
And Tony just puts up on YouTube, yay.

There are no exclamation points, so I don't know if it's a yay or if it's a yay.

You wouldn't mind getting 20 to 30 inches of snow right now.

Oh, we used to get that all the time.
Our two girls were so into American girl, especially since, uh, one of them was named Samantha.

I don't know.
And they really liked the books as well.
So it wasn't just a it wasn't just a toy thing, you know.

So we're going to talk a bit about what the State Supreme Court decided to do next on congressional maps and potential redrawing of the lines.
Also, the Secretary of the Navy is canceling a shipbuilding program.
That's going to have an impact on Fincantieri, Marinette Marine.
We're going to tell you all about that as well, Senator Tammy Baldwin.
Not too happy about that development.

Well, this one was interesting.
Late yesterday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ordered a pair of three judge panels to hear a pair of lawsuits that argue that our state's congressional maps
should be redrawn because they unconstitutionally favor Republicans.
In other words, they are gerrymandered.
That is what the lawsuits allege.
And the Supreme Court ordered three judge panels in each of these two lawsuits to hear the arguments.
Now there's, let's just say there's a case to be made that these maps are rigged and gerrymandered.
We are in a 50-50 state.
75% of the seats are held by Republicans.
Six Republicans, two Democrats in a 50-50 state.
Well, the conservative justices on the court, they howled.
Republicans howled.
But let me read the Associated Press copy on this because the the suits were brought by two different law firms.
Law firms that brought the pending cases are arguing the cases should be heard by three judge panels, and here's the important part, as required under a 2011 law passed by the Republican-controlled legislature and signed by then-Governor Scott Walker.
Any decisions of those panels can be appealed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which is currently under liberal control, four to three.
Now you're saying okay, what what's that about the three-judge panel and what did Republicans do?
Well in this story from Wisconsin Public Radio after Republicans won control of the Assembly the Senate and the governorship in 2010 They changed the rules because they did not like that gerrymandering cases could be brought to a single judge in Dane County Why are these suits filed in Dane County?
Because that's where the state capital is and they didn't like that
They wanted the opportunity for judges all over the state who might be more conservative to hear these cases.
And so they said, nope, we're changing the rules.
Can't do it with just one judge in Dane County.
It's got to go to a three judge panel controlled by the Supreme Court.
And since we control the Supreme Court, conservatives said, you know, we're, we're good to go with all this.
Having no idea that 14 years later political karma would kick in, it's now progressives that control the state supreme court and what did they do?
They followed the law as written by Republicans and Scott Walker when they just thought they'd be in control forever and appointed a couple of three judge panels.
Now, conservatives are unhappy with how the judges were picked.
But how do you think those judges would have been picked if conservatives were still controlling the Wisconsin Supreme Court?
Again sauce for the goose sauce for the gander so now we'll let these three judge panels determine things and Then the Wisconsin Supreme Court can take a crack at it.
There is absolutely no guarantee that this thing will be moving along fast enough and decided in a way
that changes the lines.
If you had to put money down right now, I'd say that the congressional lines are not going to change.
But, you know, as Alicia says so well on YouTube, I get to say, I told you so when they were changing those rules.
And that's exactly it.
And you think at the time, like, okay, well, you won.
You get to change the rules as to how these lawsuits are heard.
But at some point, it's going to come back to bite you.
And so many politicians
cannot think past the next election and just do what's in it for them.
And then they want to just howl when things go against them because pendulums swing.
That's how this works.
And that's how this is working right now.
Another late development, this one coming from the secretary of the Navy.
The secretary has decided to kill the remaining frigate program.
that involved a lot of ships that were scheduled to be built at Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
So far, two of these constellation-class frigates were under construction.
There were supposed to be at least four more.
Originally, 20 of these constellation-line frigates had been proposed, but it has become
seemingly a master class in bureaucracy.
Because these frigates, and by the way, a frigate, I've only learned this by doing the story, a frigate is something that's larger than a combat ship, but smaller than a destroyer.
And they're trying to right size, you know, the Navy's fleet to keep up with China.
China is on track to have well over 400 ships at sea, and the Navy at this point has a little over 200.
of these types of ships.
So the Navy picked a design that was put forward by Fincantieri, Marinette Marine as the parent for what would become this new class of frigate ships.
And they thought, okay, we're going to take this original design and we'll maybe have to update it by about 15% to accommodate all the different needs.
Well,
there were a lot of cooks in that kitchen.
And instead of a 15% redesign, it turned into an 85% redesign.
And so now the Navy secretary is canceling it.
And Senator Tammy Baldwin is none too happy.
She is blasting the plan in the sense that again, now we're going backwards in building up our shipbuilding capacity to keep up with China.
Now up in Marinette, they're saying they probably won't have to do any layoffs because they have other orders coming in and they'll be okay.
The trick is whether the Navy turns this around fast enough to get back into the shipbuilding business.
And I am not one to give the Trump administration the benefit of the doubt.
But in this particular case, if the constellation line was this far bogged down, then it's clear something needed to change.
I don't know if this was the right change to make.
I'm encouraged that there hasn't been word that there's going to be layoffs necessary in Marinette, but we also can't dawdle on this.
We talked to Tom Nelson about this earlier.
America's shipbuilding is sorely behind, and we have got to get caught up.

On this day in 1917, the National Hockey League was formed with four teams, including the Montreal Canadiens and a Toronto team later, Chris and the Maple Leafs.
The NHL then expanded into the United States in 1924 with the founding of the Boston Bruins.
So those three teams plus the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks made up the so-called original six.
And that's all the NHL was until 1967.

Our class hired a heavy metal band to play at our prom.
I did not stay, mostly because my girlfriend had dumped me the week earlier, but we decided to go to prom anyway because we'd already paid for the dress and the tux.

I actually know people that have worse prom stories than that.

Louis, the late Gail McCormick, she was the lead singer for a group named Smith that should have had more hits than just this one, but just this one is enough from Gail McCormick.
Just see just this little blonde white girl from St.
Louis blasting this out.

And then look at the Wikipedia entry and you'll see that growing up in St.
Louis, she was part of the high school choir and her musical influences were Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight.
And she, honest to God, should have had more hits, but the group kind of broke up and then she tried to change her musical direction a bit.

on Gail McCormick who passed away in 2016 at the age of 67.

On this day in 1983, Quiet Riot's Metal Health became the first heavy metal album to reach number one on the album charts.

I mean, the tamest of them was Loverboy.

It is also National Jukebox Day.

I, I love jukebox.
That to me was like one of my indulgent guilty pleasures.
Like if I had, if I had like unlimited funds, there would definitely be a jukebox in my basement.
And I've got a neighbor who has a jukebox in the basement.
Oh, cool.
And of course, you could, you know, when you could fit them with CDs.
And you thought, oh, this is the ultimate.
And now, of course,
You know, you have these digital jukeboxes, the most well known as touch tunes, where you don't even have to go up to the jukebox, you play it off your phone.
I mean, there doesn't even really need to be a box on the wall.
It can just be, hey, we have touch tunes here, you know, play a song off your phone.
Yeah.
But there was really something cool.
If you could have a jukebox in your home to play whatever music you want.
say.
Horrible tunes.
Tell you what, you know where it comes in handy is a little not so subtle sports warfare, shall we say.
We happen to have a friend who would come in and play.
What's what's the Chicago bear down Chicago Bears?
Yeah, because you can play pretty much anything if it's on the Internet.
You can play it through these digital jukeboxes.
And so whenever he'd show up at the bar, he'd start the bear down Chicago Bears thing and you know, and like the third time he did it, I was ready immediately following that.

Absolutely.
And so that became his walk-up music whenever he walked into the place.
And then we finally agreed on a truce.
Although he at one point told me how much money he puts into touch tunes because he's a very social creature.
I mean, if you had to, again, we've removed the friction.
It's one thing if you have to walk up and put a quarter in or later on put a dollar bill in.
When it's just tapping your phone screen, that adds up real quick.

Oh, yeah,

So so national national jukebox day, which is funny because again, my computer right here, it's a jukebox.
It'll play anything I want it to.
And yet I still think it would be really cool to have a jukebox.

for the highly anticipated Scrubs revival.
The initial teaser had a series retrospective culminated in a brief glimpse of JD and Turk doing their signature eagle.
It shows JD and Turk and all the regulars returning, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalk, as they walk their way through OG Sacred Heart Hospital before confronting a gaggle of newbies.
Yes, Dr. Cox will be there, recurring guest star, John C. McGinley.
And, uh, then of course without missing to be Carla again, fellow recurring guest star Judy rise will appear and urge Perry to leave Bambi alone.
We watched scrubs so much.
Now, of course the, well, that might have had something to do with fact that, yeah, we were going through like, you know, Sherry's medical residency at the time and it's, you know,
They're not a match for match, but when you see the little things where you know they did their homework to make it, you know, somewhat closer to being realistic, you know, plus it was it was just a really funny show.

And the headline made people think he was just homeless.

Yeah, well, look, again, you know, he has spent a lot of time defending himself from allegations of sexual assault by a fellow actor.
And, you know, he did have to sell his home in Baltimore and talked about it tearfully to Pierce Morgan at one point.
So I can see where people would have thought that.
And it's, again, one of those cases where
You don't want to necessarily give the guy a break if, you know, depending on what he really did in his personal life.
But I did see something recently that he starred in.
I wish I could remember off the top of my head now what it is, and you're just thinking, ugh, I really liked that guy.
He was really talented in some of these roles.
And now he's got, you know, basically his own personal battles to deal with of some sort or another, but not homeless.
