I'm happy to report it worked out oh well.
Night number two.
There's still some getting used to it but there is really something to be said about
sleeping more and not waking up all the time and not realizing all that time.
It was because, you know, I wasn't breathing, which I couldn't tell.
I just know I keep waking up.
What's what's with these little wakeups?
it's kind of cool when you don't have as many little wake-ups.
And so, so far so good.
Greg Bach will be here tomorrow for our history lesson and I will give him as much time as he needs to say, I told you so, as often as he wants to say it.
All I can say is I appreciate his continuing to prod me on my journey toward getting a better night's sleep and hopefully you had a good night as well and are ready to get your Thursday started off on a good note.

Uh, I don't know how to tell you this.
I just, I just learned this within the past hour.
Uh, NASA has a new administrator and it's Sean Duffy.
Yeah, I, I, I know, I don't know exactly what his qualifications are either to be the new interim administrator of NASA other than he had a public argument with Elon Musk.
So.
I guess the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Is that what Donald Trump was thinking?
So it turns out Sean Duffy, however, is not the only Wisconsin Republican who's had a change of heart on the world's richest man.
We'll talk about a couple of other Wisconsin Republicans and how the guy who was once upon a time, not that long ago, completely without fault is now a rather flawed figure that they enjoy having public spats with.
We'll talk about some of this with Congressman Mark Pocan in our seven o'clock hour.
You know, for the longest time, Congressman Pocan had a fairly limited role representing Wisconsin's second congressional district around Madison, but lately he's been filling the void of public representation over in the third district.
He continues growing his influence inside the congressional progressive caucus.
So we'll have a lot to catch up on.
since the the big Trump mega bill passed last week.
We'll talk to Sandra Goldstein of the campaign for a family friendly economy about the impact of the Trump agenda on Wisconsin families.
We'll talk to Joseph Peckie about this week's political news and Sean O'Malley talks about your money in the markets as President Trump's hope for a big, beautiful series of trade agreements, fizzles and falls flat.
All that and more coming up throughout the course of this Thursday morning.
We'll get a forecast from Brittany Merleau coming up as well.
In fact, she may have even sent me a state forecast for today.
In fact, she did.
She writes a slow moving warm front is approaching the state dragging in the potential for showers and storms.
As the cold front follows, heavy rainfall and localized flooding is possible.
That really feels like the whole story of this spring.
is it's just one front after another, one system after another.
And what we haven't really had is that thing where usually it's a high pressure system where it just parks itself.
And if you're lucky, you're on the good side of it.
You know, if you're on the on the backside of it, it's like this heat pump, you know, just keeps bringing up all this hot air.
But if you're somewhere in the middle of it, you just get, you know, nice sunny skies for days on end.
that won't be happening here like she said a warm front approaching a cold front will follow it her state forecast for today goes like this partly sunny a little more muggy I can testify yep showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon highs near 80 up north mid 80s south with a southeast wind at five to 15 miles an hour scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight lows tonight in the low 60s up north the upper 60s south and a south wind at five to 10 miles an hour

The Northern Wisconsin State Fair is underway and that means Todd Alba is gonna be here.
Todd Alba is bringing his show to Chippewa Falls this afternoon from two to four and tomorrow again from two to four.

And the Cubs and Twins play a day game today as do the Brewers and Dodgers with the Brewers winning again.

It was a, it was, you know, your, your typical three hour game or so, which is fine, but I forgot to make note that the, the game on Monday night was a Monday night or Tuesday, whatever it was.
Oh yeah.
Monday was
like that.
Two 18, two hours and 18 minutes to play that game on Monday.
It was, it was amazing.
We need a
Oh, I don't know about that.
I think they've, I feel like they've right-sized it, especially watching, watching Mizoroski and Clayton Kershaw.
Neither one of them wastes any time, you know and they just get right to it and I love that the batters Cannot get in and out of the box and adjust the glove and adjust their helmet and adjust it.
No stop it Yeah, so I I'm good with it.
I get the point But I for me it's right-sized at this moment and and I think I misspoke a second ago when I said the Dodgers and Brewers again have a day game to know the twins and Cubs have a day game today
The Brewers Dodgers series wrapped up yesterday with a day game and Jackson Churio singled home the winning run in the 10th inning as the Brewers rallied to beat the Dodgers three to two to complete the first home sweep of the Dodgers in franchise history.
That is amazing.
First time in franchise history, we have swept the Dodgers in Milwaukee.
They are your defending World Series champions, and they are now on a six game losing streak, the Dodgers.
Although, what's the stat I heard?
Their injured list, the injured list of players, is $100 million of payroll.
What is that, like, half
them?
No, but it's several players.
Brewer starting pitcher Jose Quintana worked six innings, didn't allow a hit, until a two out single in the fifth.
Again, we're getting a lot of this or like four innings of no hit baseball and we start to get excited and then you give up a hit in the fifth, sixth, maybe the seventh.
There's like,
It's a it's a nice problem to have.
It's OK.
Tony says the game is running a little fast for me, but overall I like it.
He says I like my baseball like I like my radio shows three hours long.

See this show used to be two hours and 18 minutes They just didn't air, you know the final 18 minutes and then they grew the show after that that was so anyway, the Brewers are off today But they stay home.
They started three game series at American Family Field against the Washington Nationals I feel like I should give it the full name though lowly Washington Nationals that poor team just can't catch a break since winning the World Series in 2019 games Friday Saturday Sunday and then
the All-Star break.
And then after the All-Star break, the Brewers will be back in action next week Friday in LA against the Dodgers.
Yes.
So here's hoping.
Roger's done some math.
He says that $100 million on the injured list is about 30% of the Dodgers payroll.
So that is a lot of injuries.
sucks.
But you know, baseball is like that.
You don't know.
what's going to happen.
they still have a ton of names.
Oh, come on.
They're fine.
Look at the top of the lineup.
Shohei Otani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman.
Yeah.
Okay.
I mean, they don't even, they don't even deserve to have nine players in the lineup.
If they just played those same three, they could probably win a few games.
And then you got Cubs manager Craig Council.
I can't believe I still have to say this.

Now his bullpen, again, they're still in first place, still a game and a half up on the Brewers.
Their bullpen has the third best earn-run average in baseball, which is all fine and good, but I like that some folks were taking issue with one of his comments yesterday about having
such a
good bullpen.
He says, quote, I don't know that I've ever been able to manage a bullpen like this.
Really?
Really?
Do these names seem familiar to you?
Craigers, Corey Cnebel, Corbin Burns, Brandon Woodruff, Josh Hader, Devin Williams.
I mean, I don't know what happened to this guy, but he could not get out of Wisconsin fast enough.

It's
It is not easy to talk about the Texas floods to the point where I really haven't on this program because, A, it's happening by and large outside Wisconsin, though there's reaction in Wisconsin and every place else.
There's very little that we can do with it here.
But we can at least try to see if there are lessons we can glean from this, especially in the area of providing alarms before
tragic events happen if they are foreseen like severe weather, you know unlike our our great grandparents We are better than ever at being able to foresee severe weather and warn people to get out of the way That certainly exists with with more things like like flash flooding for example and yet Texas governor Greg Abbott when asked if there would be an investigation
into who is to blame for the lack of adequate flood warnings on the ground in the Texas Hill Country.
The same way that there was, you know, an investigation into who is to blame for the high death toll after the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde.
And instead, Texas Governor Greg Abbott just went off in such a crazy inappropriate fashion.
He said that when asked about who is to blame,
Abbott said, know this.
That's the word choice of losers, he said to the reporter.
Let me explain one thing about Texas.
And that is Texas.
Every square inch of our state cares about football.
Every football team makes mistakes, he said.
And then he kept going with the stupid football metaphor, saying that losing teams were the ones that assigned blame, while championship teams respond to mistakes by saying, quote, we got this.
We're gonna make sure that we go score again, that we win this game.
I'm sorry, what?
Score again?
I'm sorry, what?
Win, win this game?
What's a win to this guy?
Because it's not bringing back the lives that were lost because you could have had better flood warning systems that you chose not to put into place because you thought they might be a little too expensive.
Not that I should be surprised.
This is the same guy whose state had to have its own power grid and when it failed in 2021 during a freeze, it left about 250 people dead.
250 people freezing to death in the state of Texas because the power grid failed.
And now we're looking at another something like 250 people dead in part because of another failure.
And this guy's move is to blame the media, grasp for a Texas football metaphor and say accountability is the word choice of losers.
The loser is a guy who'd rather cling to a failed ideology about everyone being on their own and not needing their government to function properly as long as we keep taxes low and you know, keep those brown people in their place while we're at it.
Honestly, the only thing this governor's got going is his ability to talk tough.
Everything else has left the state miserable.
And frankly, Trump's Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, was talking pretty much along those same lines, saying, we as a federal government, we don't manage these disasters.
We come support the states.
God created us to take care of each other.
Yeah, by putting our resources together into a competent system of government that can act quickly with experts, economies of scale, and actual plans.
Not the foolish incompetence we're getting from Kristi Noem, Greg Abbott, and Donald Trump.

So balloon activities include a walk-in balloon where you can walk inside the hot air balloon to see what it actually looks and feels like.
There will also be tethered rides that go to 50 to 100 feet in the air but are safely anchored to the ground and that'll cost $20.
Other activities include kids crafts, bungee jumping, games, inflatables, and a cow patty toss.
Food vendors and a beer garden will be available along with beer and wine tasting and live music.
Entry fees are just $5 and kids five and under are free.

Well, I don't know how much longer I can avoid talking about this, but there is a new interim administrator at NASA and it is Sean Duffy.
President Trump named his transportation secretary as the interim leader of NASA.
Duffy will also keep his job at the transportation department and said on Twitter, he is, quote, honored to accept this mission.
Time to take over space.
Let's launch rocket emoji, flag emoji, satellite emoji.
First off, I didn't even know there was a satellite emoji.
So Sean Duffy's already done me a favor here, but take over space.
Take takeover space from from whom I guess from Elon Musk since Duffy's only apparent qualification is having what became a public argument with the Elon Musk back when Doge Was trying to cut air traffic controllers and Sean Duffy looked like the responsible person in the room by saying to Elon Musk That's a horrible idea
and that while his Starlink satellite system is nice, it is not the only solution to, it can't be the only solution, there's more to it than that.
From CT on YouTube, Sean Duffy being acting head of NASA, of course, he's a star.
I see what you did there, start of the real world.
Tony, when I think of Duffy, I think we should send that guy to space so that checks out, yeah.
Here's the thing, and again, it's not that Sean Duffy is a bad guy.
He was just a bad congressman and as transportation secretary, has a lot to do already with overhauling the air traffic control system.
And now you're giving the guy NASA simply because you, the president, are no longer besties with the world's richest man.
Which, by the way, tells you something about Donald Trump.
He has no longer buddies with the two people on the earth who could take away America's space program, Elon Musk and Vladimir Putin.
So, I mean, we've got that going for us, which is nice, right?
Rolling Stone magazine is
looking, continuing to look through the Trump big bloated boondoggle and you might be tired of hearing about this by now.
After all, all we heard about for months was will this thing pass?
What's in?
What's out?
The reason you're still hearing about it is that we're still finding things that are in it.
Again, from the people who were so upset about the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan and everything else where they said, these bills are too big.
But when it suited their purposes, no problem whatsoever, just cramming it full of things.
We've already talked about the millions of people who are gonna lose their health insurance and of course, much more funding for a campaign of mass deportation.
Rolling Stone has looked into some of the other things that aren't getting as much attention.
For example, keep in mind that a lot of the tax cuts in the bill for the middle class are temporary, but the tax breaks for the wealthy and for corporations are permanent.
For example, in Trump's first tax bill in 2017, there was something called a rule for bonus depreciation.
which allowed business owners to write off a portion of their large-scale investments in things like factories as they age.
Okay, that makes sense.
And the 2017 bill sought to goose up the spending and investment by letting businesses write off the full value of the short-lived investments in that first year, which could include factory machinery, farm equipment, but of course, in terms of short-lived investments,
It was also including, for whatever reason, private jets for corporate executives.
Now that's part of the 2017 bill that was made temporary and was supposed to expire in 2027.
But in this new bill, the tax deduction for private corporate jets has not only been renewed, it's been made permanent.
It's now a permanent part of the tax code.
There is of course the limit on how much students can borrow from the federal government to pay for graduate education.
And the problem with that is when you limit how much people who don't come from a family of means can borrow for their education, you're pricing out lower income students who may very well be our hope for the future.
And what I mean by that is when I talk about graduate education, I'm lumping in medical school.
And the American Medical Association CEO says that this change alone will severely limit the number of individuals who can afford a medical degree and will exacerbate the looming shortage of physicians.
One of the smartest, cutest physicians I know grew up milking cows.
Go to school, come home from school, milk some more cows.
There was not a lot of money stashed away from med school.
And there was a lot of debt coming out of med school, but it was paid back with hard work.
But you can't pay it back with hard work if you can't acquire it in the first place.
And we had programs set up that enabled people who did not come from families of means to give themselves an opportunity.
And instead, the Trump administration has just taken that away.
The Biden administration was starting to put in place minimum staffing requirements at long-term care facilities that receive Medicare and Medicaid funding.
You know why the Biden administration was putting minimum staffing requirements there?
Because without those staffing requirements, understaffed nursing homes and other places were seeing astronomical death rates during the COVID pandemic.
So the Biden administration said, you know, maybe some minimum staffing levels would be a good idea.
the Trump administration's taking that out as well.
There is a facet of doge that's now being made permanent.
In other words, a big chunk of money, $100 million is set aside for the purposes of finding budget and accounting efficiencies in the executive branch, which is code for $100 million to scour through the budget and get rid of things that they don't think you should have, like the free filing program.
that was just getting started so that you wouldn't have to use a private company to file your taxes.
If any of this is making you upset or you feel like it's redundant, I'm sorry, but it is important that we not just sweep all of this under the rug.
A big beautiful mess has been created for us in this country and better we know what's in it so that in the long run, and it's going to take a long run, we can fix it.

All right, this one's a little melancholy as we mark the birth this day in 1949 of the late Greg Kin of the Greg Kin Band.
All I mean by melancholy is we marked his birthday last year, and unfortunately the following month, August 13th of last year, Greg Kin,
passed away at the age of what would that be 74 years old.
Also birthdays today, Gary Levox the lead singer of Rascal Flats is 55 years old today and Jessica Simpson was born in Abilene, Texas 45 years ago today so happy birthday to her.

I apparently became old in 2004.
That was the year I turned 40 because I have no memory of this.
I don't know who Fantasia is.
I wasn't watching American Idol at that point.

I was like,

See, and I was thinking R Kelly, I believe I can fly, which, you know, again, I wasn't going to be playing that today.

I do too.
And here's the thing about, you know, commercials versus personal recommendations.
It was several years ago now.
But a friend of ours, a neighbor here, I had not heard of Shazam at this point, but I said, kind of wonder what the song is.
And she says, you should get this app called Sound Hound.
which I'm sure maybe other people have heard of as well, but I mean Shazam is far and away the leading one from what I understand, but based on personal recommendation, I'm like, okay, so I've got sound on my phone, but a lot of people have been using Shazam now for 17 years since it launched this week in 2008.
On the national day calendar, today is Global Energy Independence Day, which is a little tougher to do when you're killing all the green energy programs, but what do I know?
