Jane Matt and Air (host)

Good, good morning and welcome, welcome to Matt and Air on Air.

Jane Matt and Air, Greg Bach, Calvin Butenoff coming to you live from our studio here at Radio Park in Racine.

You can always join us.

You can call or text.

The number is the same.

855-752-4842.

Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter, all kinds of things coming up for you on the show today, including Dr. Kristen Lierly is going to be joining us right after the 1030 news.

We're going to talk about growing cases of whooping cough.

Also, more deaths related to the measles outbreak in Western Texas.

That's all on the way with Dr. Kristen Lyrely.

Next hour, we're going to talk about our libraries.

And we're going to love on our libraries.

Greg Bach (host)

They need

Jane Matt and Air (host)

it.

Yes, they absolutely do.

1133, as we always do, it's our newly entrenched segment called Audio Sorbet.

People are loving it.

Where we address really important things that will change the course now it's not going to do that.

These are light and silly things So today we're going to talk about over under and other household compromises over under referring to toilet paper and then we'll wrap up the show as We always do with this shouldn't be a thing today.

It is the this sucks edition

You're going to want to stick around for that.

Greg Bach (host)

All right, get those laughs out, because we're going to get serious.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Yeah, we are going to get serious.

Things are not going well on the stock market as I check.

The ticker right now, the Dow is down, the S&P up 0.01%.

And the Nasdaq is up.

But don't worry, everybody, because Tom Tillis, Republican, he's got a question that I think

Most of us have.

Calvin, let's play that clip from Republican Tom Tillis, please.

Tom Tillis (clip)

I'm assuming this all got gamed out.

Because it's a novel approach, it need to be thought out.

Whose throat do I get to choke if this proves to be wrong?

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Yeah, he was questioning one of the Trump administration officials about the tariffs yesterday and essentially saying, I'm assuming you looked far into the future as to what the ramifications of this will be.

I'm sure it was really well thought out.

And if not, then who does he get to hold accountable?

Of course, I think it's important if we watch the entire clip.

Tom Tillis is up for re-election next year.

So that's his concern, essentially, is I got to go back to my people.

And if the stock market is still crashing, and if we go into a recession, that's not going to work good for me.

So that was his main concern.

Greg Bach (host)

I asked a question.

I wanted to know who I could violently assault to find out answers on this.

He's also a senator for North Carolina.

I just wanted to make that clear.

But yeah.

I want to believe that, oh, is this, are these the first cracks in it?

No, it's just, it's just politicians

Jane Matt and Air (host)

hovering their butts.

Yeah, all he's concerned about is getting reelected.

He wants to keep his cushy job.

But yeah, we're not going to dwell on that too much.

This is obviously going to be an ongoing thing.

This is something that I think is very disturbing.

And it's come home now from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today, Kelly Meyerhofer and Sophie Carlson.

With the bylines, Trump administration revokes visas for at least 27 international students across the UW system.

The termination is part of a nationwide campaign to strip international students of their ability to stay in the U.S., often for reasons unclear.

to the universities.

Greg Bach (host)

When I was reading this article, that is the sentence that stuck out to me the most.

It just seems random for no other reason than for spite.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

New York Times reporting this week, almost 300 students across the country have been notified of their visa cancellations.

And what this means essentially is that they have to immediately leave.

There is no grace period.

There's no appealing this, at least as far as I understand.

It's like your visa is terminated.

You have to leave right now.

Greg Bach (host)

And it's not just students either.

And the story goes on to say it's alumni too.

Like people who are working a job.

In our country.

Legally.

Like.

Yes.

Once again.

Doing the process that you've all said you want people to do who come to this country.

Go through that.

Go through the correct steps.

They're going by your rules and they're still getting

Jane Matt and Air (host)

thrown out.

Defend it please.

UW Madison said six current students and seven alumni.

who got employment extensions on their visas, had their visas terminated as of Monday, UW-Madison said it played no role in these terminations, and was unaware of any immigration enforcement activity on campus.

And they also don't believe the terminations were related to free speech or protests.

Greg Bach (host)

So as you said, it seems kind of random.

I mean, not to make a previous.

Uh, uh, reference, but it's, it's the same.

It's the same.

They're going again, going at this, the same notion, the same way they're doing the tariffs.

It seems scattershot.

It seems random, not so thought through.

And now having to, we'll have to probably go back.

There will be court cases, I'm sure.

And people have to go back.

Oh, they, they, they'll find one lucky person who looks camera ready.

We let them back in because of whatever reason we thought.

So, and it's, this is what we're living in now.

It's scattershot and it's chaos.

But it's all okay.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Oh, it is.

If you listen to Christian nationalist William Wolfe, you may not know who William Wolfe is.

So let's introduce him a little bit.

William Wolfe recently met with White House faith advisor, Paula White, who's all about prosperity gospel.

Gross.

Send me a dollar and then you'll get blessings because that's how that all kind of works with with Paula White.

But William Wolfe met with

White House faith advisor Paula White, and joined several other Christian nationalists in preying over President Trump, he said, quote, I told the White House faith office, I think Christians want to see mass deportations.

You'll see a lot of sort of evangelical organizations attacking Trump's immigration policies and priorities.

They're astroturf, they're left leaning.

They're using evangelical in a way that is not historically accurate.

But I'm telling you, I think that Southern Baptists and Christians want to see this happen, unquote.

Greg Bach (host)

I don't disagree with that at all.

But I did, Jane, in my research before the show, I did struggle to come across anything in the New Testament where Jesus said specifically things like, get out of Galilee, you were born in Jerusalem.

Leave.

He wasn't huge on deportation.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Yeah, I don't think that was a big tenet of Jesus.

I'm very, very curious if you are Christian, and I am not a person of faith, so I can't speak to this.

Neither am I.

855-752-4842.

Do most true Christians agree with these deportation moves by the Trump administration?

855-752-4842.

4842.

Greg Bach (host)

If you're a supporter and you're a Christian and you can lay out a reasoned argument on why what Mr. Wolf, by the way, his name sounds like a comic book villain, why what he says makes sense.

I'd love to know, I'd love to hear what your defense of this is because to me, this just seems to be one of the most anti-Christian, specifically anti-Jesus crusades I've ever seen

Jane Matt and Air (host)

in my

Greg Bach (host)

life.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

His statements contradicting centuries of history of Christian churches serving as sanctuaries.

Fort persecuted peoples.

Recent reports suggest that roughly 10 million Christians are at risk of deportation now from the US.

Greg Bach (host)

They're not real Christians.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Apparently not.

Greg Bach (host)

They didn't

Jane Matt and Air (host)

do

Greg Bach (host)

all the

Jane Matt and Air (host)

work.

Unless you think that William Wolfe is an outlier.

Oh no, he previously served in Donald Trump's first administration.

So he's all in the white.

He's all got he's got friends in the wine house.

Greg Bach (host)

This isn't an outlier This is the playbook of 2025 project 2025.

This is all about Pushing out any dissenters anybody who doesn't look like us anybody who doesn't pray like does any and even if you do pray like them It doesn't matter because you're not American enough Which I mean is you're not white enough and specifically male enough I mean they'd probably throw out all the women too if they could

Jane Matt and Air (host)

that's a different story That's a whole other show.

Greg Bach (host)

This is not this is not an outlier.

This is becoming this is not the exception

This

Jane Matt and Air (host)

is becoming the

Greg Bach (host)

rule.

This is the rule.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Wolf, along with his supporters, believe U.S.

law should be subordinate to their interpretations of the Bible.

They have fought to erode or terminate same-sex marriage, abortion, contraception, sex education, surrogacy, and no-fault divorce.

And surprise, William Wolf, who says, again, most Christians...

Apparently, if you're the right kind of Christian support, nasty portations, William Wolf has ties to Russell vote.

Oh, one of the main architects of project 2025 and now in the Trump administration as the head of the Office of Management and Budget.

Greg Bach (host)

They, I mean, what was it?

The mid 2000s, everything was about they're trying to make Sharia law in America.

We don't want their religion in our laws.

They don't want their religion, but they're fine with and it's even that it's not even making America It's about bringing America's laws to them saying like you follow us America follows our rules our way of thinking and our interpretation of Christianity and if you don't like it There's the door or there's the prison because you're gonna go to one place

And, well, when you die, you're going to hell because you are who you are, Jane.

I'm a dirty heathen.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

I'll know lots

Greg Bach (host)

of

Jane Matt and Air (host)

people there.

8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2.

Would love to hear your comments on this.

Jean from AllClairs on the line.

Good morning, Jean.

Thanks so much for joining us.

Jean from AllClair (caller)

Boy, I'm burning up over here.

And you know what?

Hey, you know what?

This is so second.

I mean, these guys have been so blasphemous.

I thought Sunday school and Bible school years ago, give me a break.

It's their own kind of religion.

Remember, they follow their God who puts his name on the Dean Bible.

Give me a break.

Tom Tillis (clip)

These guys are

Jean from AllClair (caller)

sick.

And people who follow it, I don't know about you, but I think you're going to go in a warm place.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Thanks, Gene.

Always appreciate you checking in.

Again, I am not a person of faith.

I cannot speak to this.

If you are, I am curious.

Your reaction to this from this person who is now White House adjacent, essentially saying that good Christians agree with Trump's mass deportations.

And again, from what we saw with the visa revocations,

from these UW students, there doesn't seem to be any justification for it.

Greg Bach (host)

No, none.

None whatsoever.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

None whatsoever.

None that we've seen and certainly none that has been provided to the university.

Greg Bach (host)

Once again, it is showing the pure chaotic rule of this administration and how they handle huge issues that required a delicate touch.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

855-752-4842.

You can join us.

Stay with us.

You are listening to Matt Nair on air on the Civic Media Radio Network.

We'll be right back.

Jane Matt Nair

Good morning.

Welcome.

Welcome to Matt Nair on air.

Jane Matt Nair, Greg Bach and Sweet Calbee coming to you live from our studio here at Radio Park in Racine.

You can always join us.

Call or text.

The number is the same.

855-752-4842.

You can leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter after the 1030 news.

Dr. Kristen Lierly will be joining us.

Couple special announcements.

A special announcement about Dr. Lierly.

And we're also going to talk about the increasing cases of whooping cough and also measles deaths.

Measles, by the way, had been essentially eradicated from this country, but we'll get to that with Dr. Lierly.

Before we went to the break, we were talking about the Trump administration stripping visas from at least 27 international students across the UW system.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason

for these revocations and but it's all good according to William Wolfe who is a big fan of deportations and he believes that most good Christians completely agree with these mass deportations under the Trump administration.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on that 855-752

4842 Cassandra on the live stream says absolutely not.

We just had a rally in New London, supporting the immigrant community that moved here to take jobs at the local Tyson plant.

You can bet that there were Christians there.

Greg Bach

And Calvin just told me that there was a guy on the phone who hung up who said he was going to explain why deportations were Christian.

Jane Matt Nair

Oh, please call back.

Greg Bach

I

Jane Matt Nair

would love to understand how that is a

of Christian value.

Cassandra also says their visas are being canceled over a year early for no good reason.

They were told they have to leave by April 24th with less than a month to leave.

I'm assuming that a lot of them were not financially expecting this.

Greg Bach

No, not at

Jane Matt Nair

all.

And they have to pay for these flights themselves, of course.

So yeah, it's...

It is this is where we are and again I would love to understand how Christians are backing mass deportations and how this

Greg Bach

is Christian values Absolutely, and I just want to and from a political stamp or not political a process standpoint I want to reiterate what I said earlier and what we have said on the show before These students of the school are here legally They're here through the process that this country set up that you begged all these immigrants to follow

Just do it the right way do it the legal way do it our way and that's what they've been doing Studying to become better.

Maybe maybe better Americans maybe take that learning to another country and help but no That's not good enough and and the chaos that's ensued will not be defended period

will not be defended eight five

Jane Matt Nair

five seven five two four eight four two if you would like to join us mic from green bay listening on wgbw hi guys i'm a non-practicing catholic i grew up in the system they lost me for numerous reasons do these zealous believers understand that jesus was brown and from the middle east

Greg Bach

yeah

Jane Matt Nair

i don't think they know that mike

Greg Bach

i have i have seen videos on

very uneducated video saying, well, we have new evidence to show that Jesus was actually white.

I'm like, was he born in Europe and just get lost somewhere down the road?

What are you

Jane Matt Nair

talking about?

855-752-4842.

Anne from Chippewa Falls joins us.

Good morning, Anne.

Thanks for calling in.

Anne from Chippewa Falls (caller)

Good morning, Greg and Jane.

I just want to let you know, have you ever heard of handmade

Jane Matt Nair

sales?

SPEAKER_??

Yes.

Anne from Chippewa Falls (caller)

Handmaid's Tale and Project 2025 goes exactly with the white nationalist Christians.

I know of one, I am not a religious person,

Greg Bach

but I

Anne from Chippewa Falls (caller)

know of one and she actually told her daughter that she only had to vote this one time and everything will be great.

So there are people lurking all over as national, these Christians think they are superior to everybody else that lives here.

That's what

That's the bottom line.

That's what they want.

And this is happening in a small town.

because all these people want to belong to something, all these young kids.

So I'm really happy about these protests because I feel now we can get these young kids out and they can see what democracy is really about.

Thanks, Greg and Jane, for everything you do.

Jane Matt Nair

Oh, thank

Greg Bach

you so much.

And really, really

Jane Matt Nair

appreciate that.

That's very kind of you.

855-752-4842.

Again, we're talking about William Wolfe.

who was in the former Trump administration and has prayed over Donald Trump, along with Grifter Paula White.

Oops, did I say that?

And he says, you know, good people, good Christians are all supportive of mass deportations of immigrants.

I'm assuming even if they're Christian.

Oh, God, yeah.

But again, this goes back to a discussion we've had many times before.

That brand of Christianity, they love the Old Testament, man.

They love Smitey God.

They love the

Greg Bach

Smotan.

They love Old Testament and they love money.

Jane Matt Nair

Yeah, they're not so much turn the other cheek kind of Christians.

They're more God will smite you and take you out because you annoy me.

Greg Bach

They're not about feeding the poor.

They're telling you this food will cost you some money.

Jane Matt Nair

Ollie from the Northwoods, you get the last word on this before we go to break.

Thanks for joining us.

Ollie, what do you want to say?

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

Well, I just wanted to say that I do have my own faith and

And I know the Bible says by their works you will know them.

And I just want to point everyone to the Reverend Bunny who gave the service after the inauguration of Trump.

And her face and her Christianity was true Christianity, not the one of Trump.

She preached of forgiveness, of hope, of helping people.

Jane Matt Nair

And she got excoriated for it, Ollie.

She was dragged through the mud for that, for preaching compassion.

I mean, yeah.

It was a what she gave a wonderful message.

She gave a wonderful, wonderful message and she got dragged through the month for it.

Thank you so much, Ollie.

Really appreciate you checking in.

We have news coming up next.

When we return, Dr. Kristen Lierly will be here.

So stay close.

You were listening to Matt Nair on air.

This is the Civic Media Radio

Broadcast Announcer

Network.

Jane Matt and Air

Good morning and welcome, welcome to Matt and Air on Air.

Jane Matt and Air, Greg Bach, Calvinator on the board coming to you from our studio.

At Radio Park in Racine, you can always join us.

Caller text, the number is the same, 855-752-4842.

Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream, on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter coming up next hour at this time.

As we always do now, it's a segment we call Audio Sorbet.

Where we lighten things up a little bit for the last half hour of the show We're gonna talk about over under and other household compromises the great toilet paper debate over or under.

Oh Let's see.

Okay.

Everybody's got an opinion on this next hour at this time over under and other household compromises is coming your way joining us right now on the live stream our friend

And new colleague, Dr. Kristen Lierly is here.

Good morning, my friend.

How are you?

Good morning.

How crazy that I'm your new colleague.

I know.

I mean, it's fantastic.

Greg Bach

I was excited to say this to Dan Schaefer, but I'm saying it to you too.

Now, hello, co-worker.

Jane Matt and Air

You are getting your own show on the Civic Media Network.

I'm so excited for you.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

You know, I am so excited as well.

This has been a long time coming.

It is a show that's going to be broadcast live on the radio, not live, it's going to be broadcast on the radio up in Northeast Wisconsin and WISS and WGBW at three o'clock on Saturday and Sunday.

And then just like all of the civic media programming, it's going to be available wherever you get your podcasts.

Jane Matt and Air

That's great.

That is, that's just wonderful.

You are a fabulous fount of knowledge.

And, and you're, but you're just, you are, you take very realistic approaches to things, which I think people, which I think people appreciate.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Well, and the focus of the show, so initially as we were talking about it, I was thinking like we should talk about, you know, healthcare and politics.

And, but then as it evolved, it became clear that really.

We're going to just shine a light on what's happening in Northeast Wisconsin.

Unknown Speaker

We're

Dr. Kristen Lierly

going to talk about the people who live here and the resources and the great things that are happening.

It's more of a long form conversation.

Like we're sitting at a table, drinking coffee, just chatting and then pulling in all that other stuff.

And then, you know, really just leaving.

Hopefully my goal is with a sense of hope and inspiration and how we can navigate these really

challenging times together because it's not coming from up above.

It's got to come

Jane Matt and Air

from us in our

Dr. Kristen Lierly

communities, banding together, solving these problems.

Jane Matt and Air

That is where the change will come without a doubt, without a doubt.

So when is the debut of your new show?

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Saturday.

Jane Matt and Air

This Saturday.

Greg Bach

It's here, folks.

It's

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Wow.

This Saturday, I sat down with Emily Sappos.

We've already taped it.

Emily is an incredible mom.

She's a former teacher.

She's an organizer.

She's the chair of the Democratic Party in Out of Game County.

She was the assembly candidate for District 56.

And Emily and I talked about the election, the Supreme Court election.

We talked about what Wisconsinites want, what's happening in our communities, and we gave people ways that they can get involved in their own communities.

So please

Join us for that conversation.

And stay tuned.

There's so much more good stuff on the horizon.

Jane Matt and Air

Well, and as always, you can download it as a podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.

Also, if you download the Civic Media app, which is completely free, you can listen because you can pick which station you want to listen to on the app.

So you can listen live on Saturdays if you would like on WISS.

And what's it going to be called?

The Dr. Kristen Lierly Show.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

It is, which feels so weird to me, because I wanted it to have like a catchy name, but they were like, no, you actually are the person that it's about.

Greg Bach

Exactly.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

So I don't know, you know, I just, in my mind, I'm still that little kid who grew up in Kakana, who, when I would hear Kakana on the radio, I'd get excited.

Jane Matt and Air

And now I have a show wild.

That's wonderful.

It's going to be fantastic.

It's going to be fantastic.

I can't wait to check it out this Saturday at three o'clock.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

This Saturday at three and I also should mention let me put in a plug for Mark Becker and his show Rational Revolution which you can catch all across the civic media universe Mark and I are going to be talking about abortion

Jane Matt and Air

Should be a very interesting conversation indeed.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

We're going to be dispelling myths We're going to be talking about common things, you know one of the most challenging things about the topic of abortion is that it is

just loaded with disinformation to manipulate us and try to divide us.

But really, when it comes down to it, it's a personal health care decision.

Jane Matt and Air

It's health care.

So

Dr. Kristen Lierly

we're going to talk through, it's health care.

Jane Matt and Air

It's health care.

So

Dr. Kristen Lierly

we're going to talk through some of the common arguments that people make, some of the misunderstandings.

And I think it's going to be a really interesting show.

So that's Rational Revolution with Mark Becker this weekend as well.

Greg Bach

I love Mark Becker.

He's so great.

And one of the things I said this morning, I sent you a video of

a shouting match between a pro-lifer and pro-choice person.

And even though the video reinforced and made me feel fuzzy in my bias of being someone who is for bodily autonomy and access to abortion care, I sent it to you because I felt like the things that the guy who's pro-healthcare, they don't seem right.

And you could easily say, no, what he's saying is right.

Once again, it reinforced my biases, but you didn't.

You broke it down and said, no, this is why what he says is maybe wrong and not fair to say out loud and not based in science.

That's what I love about you, Dr. Lyrely.

And I think that's what people are going to get from your show is, yes, we're going to be talking about those.

Oh, you will.

I'm not going to be.

You will be talking about those topics, but you are talking about them and how they affect all the people and how we could all come together and help and do the work.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Absolutely.

And you know, one thing that that video really reminds me of over and over again, whether we're talking about abortion or medication or anything, whatever you see on TikTok is boiled down to the least common denominator.

So it is simple and it's often not right.

and often not right for you.

So that's not the place to get your information, and certainly not to get your healthcare advice.

Jane Matt and Air

Please don't get healthcare advice from the influencer you follow who comments on yoga pants.

That's probably the wrong person to be getting your medical information from.

I'm just throwing that out there.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Yeah, we're all different.

And you need to know what all of the options are, not just the things that you see on TikTok, because those things might not be the right things for you.

So, but it's hard, you know, when you don't have the money to go see a doctor, I mean, I don't know about you, but my premium, my insurance premium is $800 a month and I have an $8,000 deductible on the exchange.

So for me, as a doctor who makes a pretty good salary, I am even reluctant to go to the doctor when I have a problem.

So I can understand why people turn to TikTok because it's free.

Unknown Speaker

It's

Dr. Kristen Lierly

there, you search for something and, you know, you doctor Google it.

We need better.

We deserve better in this country.

And we see that because people are making their health care decisions based on inadequate information, our outcomes aren't good.

It affects every single one of us.

Jane Matt and Air

Yeah, it certainly does.

And we also see it by people who are essentially choosing not to get health care because they simply can't afford it.

Cindy from Appleton is on the line real quickly.

Cindy, thank you for joining us.

What do you want to say?

Cindy from Appleton (caller)

Well, I have three quick things.

First of all, congratulations, Dr. Leireland, your show.

Second

Greg Bach

of all, I

Cindy from Appleton (caller)

hope you will bring up the information about one-term Tony pull the weeds campaign, the no show for Friday afternoon and appear.

I hope you'll bring those details out again.

And I actually got the toilet paper jitters because I remember what happened to COVID during COVID.

And with all these tariffs, they got a little jittery.

So I went out and bought 82 rolls of toilet paper so that if I go to the dollar store and can't find toilet paper, I don't have to worry about it because.

I'm really kind of afraid that with these tariffs, it's going to go skyrocketing out of this world.

So I jumped on that one.

Jane Matt and Air

Well, Cindy, now we know where to go if we all run out of toilet paper.

Unfortunately, we're going to call you.

No, I'm kidding.

Thank you, Cindy.

Thank you for checking in.

And again, congratulations, Dr. Lyrely.

It's going to be a great show.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Yeah.

We wanted to

Jane Matt and Air

move

Dr. Kristen Lierly

on.

Let me follow up.

Let me follow up real quick with something Cindy said.

Thank you, Cindy.

We are doing a town hall in Depeer in the eighth congressional district on Friday at 6 PM at the Depeer Community Center.

Everybody's welcome.

This is a listening session.

Congressman Weed has been invited.

We don't know whether he's going to be there or not, but I'll be there.

Mark Becker will be there, and lots of other folks are going to be there so that people will have a place to use their voices.

And, Cindy, to your other point about prices going up,

My son works at Target and he came home last night and he said, mom, I had to do a lot of price changes yesterday.

Jane Matt and Air

Already.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Yeah, and they're they're shocking and there's more on the horizon.

Jane Matt and Air

I'm sure it's

Dr. Kristen Lierly

already happening.

Jane Matt and Air

Speaking of this Friday event that Tony Weed is invited to, who is the elected official for that area.

I don't know if you heard of any of our earlier shows, but I believe in Alabama, Dr. Lierly, they have started taking cardboard cutouts

of their representatives who don't show up to meetings.

And so we've been trying to kind of make Flat Tony a thing.

Yeah.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

We got that.

It's done.

Flat Tony will be there.

Oh, I'm so

Greg Bach

excited.

We need the next

Jane Matt and Air

Flat Derrick.

Flat Derrick.

We need

Greg Bach

a

Jane Matt and Air

Flat Derrick.

Greg Bach

That's a good

Jane Matt and Air

one.

Yeah, we'll work on that.

Yeah.

OK.

Let's talk about the, this is not good news and this is not funny by any stretch of the imagination.

We are having now more measles related deaths.

We've had another child die, an adult die.

And Robert Kennedy Jr., who is now the head of Health and Human Services and all those agencies, now all of a sudden he's all pro-vaccine for measles.

And yet, one of the organizations that he founded has been pushing vitamin A as a way to combat measles.

And now we are seeing children showing up in hospitals in areas of Texas

Who are having complications from having too much vitamin A?

Dr. Kristen Lierly

That is true.

It's liver damage.

Vitamin A can be helpful in situations where malnutrition is a problem, so they do use it in third world countries.

And for people who are profoundly sick with measles in the hospital, that is part of the treatment.

But to be very clear, vitamin A does not prevent measles, and vitamin A does not generally treat measles.

And too much vitamin A is bad for you.

Greg Bach

The question I have is, I mean, where did they get vitamin A from as some sort of alternative?

Jane Matt and Air

But as she just said, it is used in some instances, right, in countries where malnutrition is a big issue.

Greg Bach

Yeah, I get, yeah, I, malnutrition.

Yes, absolutely.

But like measles or any, I just, I just don't understand.

It seems like these, when especially when someone is, um, suggesting vitamins, it just seems like a random suggestion.

Get more vitamin A. Okay.

Show me the paper.

Dr. Kristen Lierly

Yeah.

Vitamins are important.

We all need them.

It would be great if we all had balanced diets where we ate lots of fruits and vegetables so that we weren't, we didn't have malnutrition as an issue.

But most of us don't eat perfect diets.

So a daily multivitamin is not a bad idea.

I recommend that to my patients, especially my patients who are of childbearing age because we all need folic acid to prevent.

neural tube defects in an early pregnancy.

But in this situation, large doses of vitamin A are not okay.

And what they're seeing in West Texas is there's a lot of vitamin A and cod liver oil.

They can't keep cod liver oil on the shelf because that is the word is out.

And people are using cod liver oil.

Yeah, there's a lot of panic.

And you know, really the best way to combat this measles epidemic is prevention.

So I've said it before, I'll say it again, I'm going to say it a lot.

If you haven't been vaccinated, please do get vaccinated.

And if you are questioning whether it's appropriate for you, please talk to a healthcare provider.

It's really important to make an informed decision.

So you need to know all the risks and benefits before you undertake any sort of medical treatment.

So please do look into this because measles is

coming.

I'm certain it's already here in Wisconsin.

We don't have any cases reported yet, but it's incredibly contagious.

It's all around us.

It's coming, and we are the second least vaccinated state in the country.

So we are at risk, especially young children.

Jane Matt and Air

Dr Lylee for adults who are not certain whether or not they got the measles vaccine.

If say they did as a child and they got another one now as an adult, there there is no downside to that.

Is there?

Dr. Kristen Lierly

There really isn't.

The biggest downside is mild fever, pain at the injection site, but it's an incredibly safe vaccine.

And if you're not sure, you can always look back at the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.

Just Google Wisconsin Immunization Registry.

You just have to put in your last name and I think your social security number, and it will give you your full immunization history.

Greg Bach

So

Dr. Kristen Lierly

you'll know if you've been immunized, if you've received two doses of the MMR vaccine, you should be covered.

And that coverage does not wane with

time, so you should be good.

And if you've had measles, Jane, like you have, you're very, very good because actually having had the disease makes you the most immune.

Jane Matt and Air

I'm going to go lick doorknobs now.

Don't do it.

I'm not kidding.

Dr. Kristin Lierly is our guest.

We're going to continue our conversation on the other side.

Stay with us.

You are listening to Matt Nair on AIR.

We were talking about measles before we went to the break and we did have a question from Jack.

Greg Bach

From Jack, yeah.

He asked, my apologies, I clicked the wrong window.

Jack from Merrimack wanted to know if you should still get vaccinated even if you had measles as a child.

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

Well, hello, Jack from Merrimack.

That just sounded fun to say.

No, you don't need to.

Because if you've had it, your body has that memory.

And this is actually the most optimal situation.

You are the most immune.

You're more immune than somebody who's been vaccinated.

Somebody who's gotten both vaccines as 97% immune, you are even more than that.

Jane Netnair

But I do want to, I do want to counter that because I don't want someone listening to think.

Great.

I'll make sure my kid gets measles and that

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

way they're going to

Jane Netnair

be doubly protected.

That's the wrong message to take from this.

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

That's exactly right, Jane, because the implications, the complications from getting sick with measles can be profound.

I mean, death can happen.

We've seen this in Texas, but not just death, but

the inflammation of the brain and sephalitis that can cause blindness and deafness and permanent damage.

So for every kid that dies, for those two kids that have died in Texas, there are at least 200 other kids who will have long standing, lifelong.

problems related to this measles infection.

So please, especially for children, because children under five are most vulnerable and they're most likely to have these long-term effects.

Please get your children vaccinated.

Greg Bach

We spoke earlier about the vaccination record, and I just wanted to let people know that over the break, I went to it and found out the information.

That's how quick and easy it is.

I will put a link.

If you're in Wisconsin and you want to check your vaccination records, that link will be in the show notes, very clear in the first hour.

Jane Netnair

I wanted to briefly, because we don't have a whole lot of time left, Dr. Liarly, to mention, I found this article in the Wall Street Journal, ousted vaccine chief says RFK Junior's team was looking for data to justify their anti-science stance.

Dr. Peter Marks says RFK Junior wants to show vaccines aren't safe while promoting dangerous and unproven treatments.

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

Yeah, I guess that's not at all surprising because that's what we have seen in the past the thing that was surprising and you said it earlier in the show Jane RFK did come out in a statement recommending that people get vaccinated and I was

Thrilled to see that that was absolutely the right thing to do that is the kind of leadership We need that must have been incredibly hard for him to do given his history and the connections He's made in the past and we've seen a lot of backlash from that anti-vax community But that was a life-saving statement and I am so very happy that he did that

Jane Netnair

Do you think that will make a difference though to all the people he's been preaching to for 30 years on how dangerous vaccines are and now

Now he comes and does a 180 like that.

Are those people going to be convinced or are they just going to?

He's been corrupted by the deep state now or whatever.

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

Hey, I don't know.

I hope it makes a difference.

I mean, all we can do in these times where there's so much misinformation and disinformation is just keep talking to people, keep building trust, keep speaking.

truth to power.

And hopefully, as we continue to have these conversations, the truth will prevail

Greg Bach

where

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

it needs to.

I hope so, Jane.

I mean, that is a big part of the reason that I wanted to do this show.

And, you know, I was talking with a reporter the other day, and I told her that I'm not getting paid for any of this.

Like, I am doing this out of the goodness of my heart because it means something to me.

And that is 100% the case.

I am spending hours and hours and hours

talking to you folks, talking to reporters, trying to get as much information as I can because it all comes down to those times where I've sat in an exam room with a patient and they've said, I wish I would have known this before this happened to me.

So if I can just prevent that from happening, if I can help you get the cancer screening you need or the vaccines that you need or the medication that you need or the health care that you need, then my job here is done.

Greg Bach

And last time I checked, she didn't care who you voted

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

for.

What are you voting for?

Come on, bring me your problems.

Let's solve

Jane Netnair

them.

It's so important.

It is.

And the fact that you are doing it.

for nothing because it is important to you that people have access to accurate information to speak so highly to you and who you are, Dr. Liarley.

I'm very serious.

You could turn this into a huge grift if you wanted to.

And I can send you to some people who I think would be really good advisors on how to grift if you're looking for it.

Greg Bach

Do you want to sell some weight loss pills, Dr. Liarley?

Jane Netnair

No,

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

I'll go for a bike ride with

Jane Netnair

you.

Dr. Lyrely's St.

James Wart or whatever was the thing.

Akai berries.

What is the berry?

Yeah, those

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

two.

You know, sometimes there's evidence for that.

Like there is some evidence for.

For some of those things, for some of the supplements, there is some evidence.

So it's not a complete wash, but make an informed decision.

Have a conversation, understand the benefits and the risks.

Supplements are not FDA regulated.

You don't know what is in those supplements.

So if you're choosing a supplement instead of an actual treatment, you may be denying yourself the thing that you truly need to live a healthy life.

Jane Netnair

Check out Dr. Lyrely's new show, The Kristen Lyrely Show, this Saturday and Sunday on WISS and WGBW.

Thank you so very much, my friend.

We will talk soon.

Thank you, friends.

Love you.

Dr. Kristen Lyrely

Love you,

Greg Bach
