Greg Bach

Welcome back.

Jane Matt

Thank

Greg Bach

you.

Welcome back.

Don't ever leave us again.

Thank

Jane Matt

you very much.

I am delighted to be back.

And big shout out to Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee's own, the coat check.

The coat check is a great thing.

You can check your coat when you are flying somewhere warm from Milwaukee.

Two bucks a day.

It's a great deal.

But then you don't have to slap the big heavy thing with you if you're going you know to like that

Greg Bach

you don't have to slap the big

Jane Matt

It's a great thing and a great travel hack.

So when we do our segment at 1130 that we like to call Audio Sorbet 1130 today's audio sorbet are travel hacks.

Greg Bach

What are

Jane Matt

your best travel hacks?

And I would say that using the code check at Mitchell International is one of my favorite newly discovered travel hacks.

Greg Bach

Oh, look at Tony on

Jane Matt

the

Greg Bach

live stream.

Jane Matt

Jane.

He's happy.

Oh, thanks.

Hi, Tony.

Glad to be back.

So yes, please be thinking about your travel hacks.

We will kick that around after the 11 30 news, your favorite tips that you can share.

And then, of course, we'll wrap it up as we always do around 11 51 with this shouldn't be a thing.

Today it is the no strain or.

No gain.

Addition of Tisbet.

Stick around for that.

Dominic Salvia joining us after the 1030 news.

We're going to talk about all the most competent people.

Wow.

And Karina Tweedel, who is a board member of Wisconsin Ukrainians, is going to join us after the 11 o'clock news.

Now that it appears the Trump administration has essentially pulled all of our support from Ukraine, we're going to talk to Karina about what she's hearing from people.

Back home.

Yeah.

So stick around for that.

We did want to start off though It's a week from today Right.

Yeah.

Oh my god.

Greg Bach

Why don't you think it's Wednesday?

Jane Matt

The election is a week from today.

Yep We are going to Select a Supreme Court justice Either Brad Schimmel or Susan Crawford.

We're gonna be electing a new head of the Department of Public Instruction

either Brittany Kinzer or Jill Underly.

And then, of course, there's that constitutional amendment as well.

But I think the state Supreme Court race has pulled in so much money.

And it's a very, very important race.

Greg Bach

Yeah.

And just by the looks of what I'm seeing on social media from outside, like influencers in the political sphere, this is whether you want to talk about

What's at stake for Wisconsin, the money that's being spent, the candidates themselves, just like two years ago, just like two years ago, this is, this is an important race.

And I'm kind of glad that it's a spring, no, I'm not kind of, I am glad it is a spring race that there's not a lot on the ballot

Rob from Port Edwards (caller)

because

Greg Bach

it definitely gets swallowed up by other things.

If it, for some reason, I mean, it wouldn't be a fall thing, but

if it was during presidential time or was during, but it needs its own

Jane Matt

attention.

It does.

This is very, very important.

And I think it's important because we have talked about this quite a bit.

Wisconsin Public Radio today, Rich Creamer with the My Line headline reads, Ron Johnson, Wisconsin senior senator.

Ron Johnson says, we have to thank Elon if Brad Schimmel wins the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.

This is very important to Elon.

Yeah.

This race.

Yes.

Because he has a case that could end up, don't tell me, before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

And wouldn't it be nice if he had his guy on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the guy that he's funneled millions and millions and millions of dollars to, in order to, I don't know, potentially rule in his favor.

Greg Bach

But Jane, that.

Like, why would we be nervous about that?

It's not like Brad Schimel has gone around and told everybody what he thinks about certain cases and certain headlines have come through the news in the past few years, Jane.

That would be ridiculous.

Jane Matt

Yeah.

During an online forum with Elon to promote conservative Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel, Republican U.S.

Senator Ron Johnson said, quote, we have to thank Elon.

if Shimmel wins the April 1st election.

Greg Bach

No serious, they have to, they have to send him a card.

Like, it's gonna be like a thing where Trump is gonna be like, you think, you think, Elon?

Make you better, make you better, let

Jane Matt

him know how grateful you are.

Get to the grovelin,

Greg Bach

that's the

Jane Matt

worst, it's hardest on the knees, but get to the grovelin.

Greg Bach

Get to

Jane Matt

the grovelin, absolutely.

Elon's PAC recently started paying people 100 bucks here in Wisconsin.

to sign a petition against activist judges.

Okay.

A statement from Susan Crawford's campaign described this event as Elon Musk's check-in with his $12 million investment.

Greg Bach

And Alicia Saunders on the live stream, I believe it was yesterday, said it brilliantly.

She said, well, yeah, of course I'm not going to vote for an activist judge.

I'm going to vote for Susan Crawford.

Susan Crawford, thank you.

Because Brad Schimel is the epitome.

of activist judge, period.

Yeah.

Strict conservative.

Jane Matt

Yeah.

Constitutionalist.

Greg Bach

Well, and

Jane Matt

fair and we'll listen to the people.

Right.

Even though, you know, the 1849 abortion ban is not flawed.

It's perfectly fine.

It's really good legislation.

There's a really heartbreaking article in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

referring to this 1849 ban and what it is doing to women who are alive.

Women who live in

Greg Bach

Wisconsin.

And if you want any other, read that article, but also go back to in our archives and look for the show entitled Laurel's Story.

Jane Matt

It's absolutely worth a listen.

Greg Bach

It is hard to listen to.

Yes, it is.

It is very, very, she describes in great detail what happened to her.

This is what happens when you have a murky old Law on the books that does not define what a woman can do to receive good Proper health care.

This is health care.

This is health

Jane Matt

abortion is health

Greg Bach

care

Jane Matt

Yeah, it actually is yeah eight five five seven five two four eight four two There's also another great story in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from Daniel Bice Elon Musk doorknocker wants you to vote for Brad Schimel, but can't tell you why

Ooh.

I mean, I know that they're paying people now

Rob from Port Edwards (caller)

to go

Jane Matt

knock on doors.

And I'm assuming some of them are from out of state, but you would just have a little card to refer back to.

Greg Bach

That's part of the training.

Like when you train doorknockers, you give them the bullet points, three or four things to talk about.

But no, they don't.

They just know because the doorknockers that are coming down, the mailers that come to my neighborhood are all

for Brad Schimmel with pictures of Donald Trump.

Right.

So it doesn't matter because Brad Schimmel has said he will be support the support system for Donald Trump.

So they don't need to know who Brad Schimmel is.

All you need to do is be like, you like Donald Trump?

Well, that guy's your guy.

Jane Matt

I just have never heard before that it was the responsibility of a state Supreme Court justice to be a support system for the current White House administration.

It seems like a

Greg Bach

first.

Yeah, it's I mean.

If anything, you are, you are a balance.

Well, you know, I've never heard that either.

I mean, the US Supreme Court can be a support system.

I mean, that's what they are right now.

Jane Matt

Essentially,

Greg Bach

for the most part

Jane Matt

of Robert's had a little pushback

Greg Bach

last

Jane Matt

week.

That's not going to last.

Yeah, that's not

Greg Bach

going to last.

But yeah, I'm sure I'm sure that Brad Schimmel dialed her play.

All right, cool.

Thanks, Brad.

Appreciate you.

I

Jane Matt

don't know, whatever.

8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2, if you'd like to join us.

Rob from Port Edwards is on the line.

Good morning, Rob.

Thanks for joining us.

What do you want to say?

Rob from Port Edwards (caller)

Good morning, folks.

Great show.

Thank you.

I've been door knocking for Susan Crawford and Jill Underly, and voting no on the Constitutional Amendment for well over a month.

And the thing that I would suggest to the listeners out there

talk to people, actually go and talk to them.

They're bombarded on television and radio.

They're bombarded on radio programs.

You name the media source, and in large case, it's not getting through because you would be amazed at the number of people that once I actually talked to them said, well, one, I really wasn't sure when the election was.

Go figure.

I'm not going to ask them, why don't you know?

That's not right.

They don't necessarily know when and where to vote.

And in the small community, it's kind of limited.

There's only one place to go on the day of and the one place to go early.

And they really aren't sure about the candidates per se because they've shut them all down.

But if you talk person to person, a friend, a neighbor, someone that actually trusts you to give them the straight dope, it goes miles.

What do you say?

Thank

Jane Matt

you so

Rob from Port Edwards (caller)

much, Rob.

And

Jane Matt

you are so right.

We've been saying this for a long time.

Share what you know.

Share what you know.

And it sounds like a small, insignificant thing.

It's not.

Greg Bach

Just listen to Rob.

And something that Rob, Rob, I thought that was very, very important is that these campaigns can bombard people with commercials, radio ads, things coming to your mailer and get to the point where people are frustrated and upset and don't want to do anything.

If you talk to them and say, hey, don't worry about all that noise.

Let's just talk me and you.

What do you have questions about?

What can I do to answer?

Let's both look stuff up.

We can do this together.

It makes people feel better because I think a lot of people want to get involved in the process, but they're just hit with so much stuff that they get frustrated

Jane Matt

or overwhelmed.

It's exhausting.

Absolutely.

We're going to switch gears a little bit when we come back.

Trump administration official has thoughts.

If you are complaining about not getting your Social Security check bad news for you, that's all on the way.

Stay with us.

You are listening to Matt Nair on air.

This is the Civic Media Radio Network.

We'll be right back.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Good morning and welcome back to Matt and Air on Air.

Jane Matt and Air, Greg Bach, Sweet Calbee on the board coming to you live from your studio here at Radio Park in Racine.

You can always join us.

Call or text the number is the same.

Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter after the 1030 News host of the Dom Salvia program.

From 4 to 6 p.m.

Dom's gonna be with us live.

in studio to talk about all the most competent people in the Trump administration.

Greg Bach

And I'm proud

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

of them too.

Well, and doesn't it make you feel good to see their thought processes play out in an unsecured channel

Greg Bach

when they're discussing war plans?

I just have Lee Greenwood just on a loop in my head right now singing right now how proud I would be American because of it.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

By the way, you still have time if you have not yet to download.

the absolutely free civic media app.

Go to where go to your app store, whatever one you use, look for civic media, C I V I C civic media, download the civic media app.

After the 11 o'clock news, we will have the word of the hour that you want to text in via the app.

You cannot email it.

It's not going to count.

You have to download the app.

Greg Bach

So here's we we encountered this on patch show this morning.

You can't

You can't text it to us via regular texting.

No, you can't email it to us.

You can't put on the live stream.

It has to come through the civic media app and the word must be spelled correctly.

Yes, it sounds like a lot, but it's really simple when you do it.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

And I'm telling you, once you get the app, I think you're going to love it.

There's all kinds of things you can do on the app.

You can listen to all of our stations all across the state.

You can call in text directly to whatever show you're listening to from the app.

So check it out.

It's great.

It's free.

Download the Civic Media app and then we will have that super secret word coming your way right after the 11 o'clock news.

I did want to share this briefly before we get to the news because I think it's really important.

We've talked a lot about social security and what is going to happen now under a second Trump administration.

What's going to happen to social security?

They've already talked their closing offices all over the place.

Yeah.

But never fear, you guys, all is well.

One of Donald Trump's cabinet members was on Fox, I believe, recently talking about people on social security.

And if they don't, what happens if they don't get their checks?

Calvin, let's play that clip, please, from Howard Lucknick.

Didn't send out their

Calvin (Board Operator)

checks.

Howard Lutnick Clip

this month, my mother-in-law, who's 94, she wouldn't call and complain.

She just wouldn't.

She'd think something got messed up and she'll get it next

Calvin (Board Operator)

month.

Howard Lutnick Clip

A fraudster always makes the loudest noise screaming and yelling and complaining.

So essentially,

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Howard Letnick, who is worth multi-millions,

That's why his mother-in-law is not going to complain about her not giving her social security check because she's going to be just fine.

If you don't get your social security check and you call to find out where it is, you're a cheater and you're a fraudster and you aren't deserving of that check.

Okay,

Greg Bach

okay, all right, all right, all

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

right,

Greg Bach

all

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

right.

So,

Greg Bach

yeah.

Let's, I'm going to be Howard Lucknick's mother-in-law.

I'm 94.

And let's say I do need my social security.

And I also remember the days of big band, but I'm not calling that first month because I think something's up.

Okay.

Month two, I'm going to call and say, Hey, I didn't receive my check last month.

I'm not going to scream.

I'm not going to yell because I'm polite.

Right.

But I didn't receive my check this month as well as last month.

What's happening right now?

if they keep calling because they're not getting their checks, if they, if, let me put it this way, if there is a natural screw up, sometimes things happen.

The department will take their pathway to get it taken care of, get you your money done.

But if I'm not getting my check for the first month and then I'm not getting my check for the second month, then I want to know where is my money?

Not just why is it not my bank account, but what have you done with my money?

Because I know,

you guys want to cut Social Security.

So the scenario Mr. Lutnick is playing out is factually inaccurate to someone who's just trying to, as I've said before on the show, my mother-in-law, who's not 94, two-thirds of her income rely on Social Security.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

There are a lot of folks who depend upon Social Security.

And

Greg Bach

if she doesn't get that first

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

month, she's going to call.

Well, unfortunately now,

They're getting rid of people at social security.

So there are fewer people there are fewer people to answer the phones So the Trump administration's response to that is well, then just go to the office in person Unfortunately, they're closing social security offices around the country one could posit that they don't want they want to make it harder Yeah, for people to get their social security benefits

Greg Bach

and also put a a

Make it seem like you are rude or fraudulent for even asking in the first place They're trying to make you look like a bad person for asking for that which you are entitled

Howard Lutnick Clip

to

Greg Bach

so Don't listen to that said like if you don't get your money you call You do what you can to get through to them and you be I mean I'm always gonna be polite, but you're not a fraudster.

You're not a cheat You've put in you've paid your dues and the money's yours

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Tony on the live stream says, so you go hungry for a week or two.

What's the big deal?

Yeah.

We're talking about meds sometimes or food or meds or rent for folks who depend upon social security.

Greg Bach

Are you even talking about saying that to a human being?

Let alone an elderly person.

Just skip a lunch.

Skip a dinner.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Howard Lutnik's mother-in-law is going to be fine.

Therefore, your mother-in-law is going to be fine.

Greg Bach

Apparently.

This is

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

so disgusting.

Calvin, let's play that clip just one more time before we go to break.

I think it's important that we understand what Trump administration officials think about social security recipients.

Howard Lutnick Clip

Didn't send out their checks this month.

My mother-in-law, who's 94, she wouldn't call and complain.

She just wouldn't.

She thinks something got messed up and she'll get it next month.

Oh, she's a nice lady.

A fraudster.

Hmm.

Always makes the loudest noise screaming yelling and complaining.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

So if you call and complain, apparently

Greg Bach

you are a fraudster.

And a grifter or a huckster will say something like that to make you feel like you're not entitled to what you deserve.

It's not.

It's an intimidation tactic.

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Absolutely.

And so if you call and complain then what your name is marked.

Greg Bach

Oh, I didn't even think about that.

Right.

News

Jane Matt and Air (Host)

Dominic

Unidentified speaker

Salia

Jane Matt and Air (host)

is here.

You can catch Dom with his show from 4 to 6 p.m.

Across the Civic Media radio network.

So good to see you, my friend.

How are you?

I am great.

Thank you so much.

Jane, Greg,

Dominic Salia (guest)

Cal, what's Cal's name?

Board Lord?

It can be many things.

Sweet Calbee, spicy Calbee, Calvitini.

Calvitini?

Oh, I like that one.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Oh, yeah,

Dominic Salia (guest)

yeah, yeah.

It's great to be with you.

You know, it is so much more fun in person.

So I'm happy to be here.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Well, I thought you would be a wonderful person to talk about.

all the most competent people.

Yes.

In the Trump administration, after that little oopsie, sharing war plans.

Dominic Salia (guest)

No, no, he said he didn't share war plans.

Oh, no.

No.

Oh, no, no, no.

Wasn't me.

There are recipes.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Oh, they're right.

Dominic Salia (guest)

For big missiles.

Sharing

Jane Matt and Air (host)

recipes on an unsecured platform, not in a skiff, which is a secure place to.

doesn't the government have specific channels

Dominic Salia (guest)

why yes they do as a matter of fact my understanding is the government officials are required to use specific channels when in conducting their business especially these kinds of things so my you know there's so many things to unpack on this yes yes great I have another

Greg Bach (co-host)

question are while talking about these super secret plans that could you know be warlike are

Dominic Salia (guest)

you supposed

Greg Bach (co-host)

to also involve

journalists in their discussions.

Dominic Salia (guest)

Oh,

Greg Bach (co-host)

that's right.

Dominic Salia (guest)

Are you

Greg Bach (co-host)

supposed to like, it's like, I mean, we, I mean, I have a group chat with my sister and my wife.

I have a group chat with my mom and my sister.

And sometimes it's like, oh, mom's really getting out of my nerves.

Oh.

Yeah,

Jane Matt and Air (host)

typically, I believe when you are discussing things among government officials, particularly, you know, war plans.

You don't include journalists.

Dominic Salia (guest)

No, that's not that's

Jane Matt and Air (host)

not a tip.

You're not normally

Dominic Salia (guest)

on the fight list standard standard operating procedure.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

No, it is not

Dominic Salia (guest)

I should be writing this down

Jane Matt and Air (host)

and and to this reporters credits

He did not share everything that he saw and he could have.

Dominic Salia (guest)

Yeah.

Yeah, he didn't he didn't and thankfully it was it was that the Atlantic editor I mean the editor for crying out loud And but but it is it is stunning and I don't know you know right now that we have we have Tulsi gabbered and there's hearings going on as we speak About this and it should there should be I mean there there should be some

consequence to these actions.

There's so many things about this, you know, the reaction of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, you got to be kidding me with the eye roll thing because all we heard for years, what about her emails?

What about it?

You know, and ultimately, you know, there is some there there.

I mean, why are you using an email server?

Those are those are those are things that can be considered.

Where is the criticism now?

As far as I understand, Fox News is praising our leaders.

This is

Jane Matt and Air (host)

what, Fox?

This is the spin.

This is the spin, at least for right now.

This is the spin from Fox News.

Host Will Cain says, quote, again, this unsecured discussion on signal, discussing war plans.

Quote, it is insight into the thought process and dialogue of our national leaders.

I think you will come away proud.

These are the leaders making these decisions in America.

You mean the same leaders who made the decision to have this discussion on an unsecured app?

Those leaders?

Greg Bach (co-host)

Those leaders.

Two things I'm going to say.

One, I don't disagree with you, Dom, on the whole Hillary Clinton email thing.

It was their go-to.

If they didn't have Benghazi, it was her emails.

But we also learned there were many other people in the government at the time who were using their own private servers, using different emails.

So it was the fact they were targeting her.

But also, I wonder what would have happened if, say, General Eisenhower would have written to the New York Times said,

Dominic Salia (guest)

hey, we

Greg Bach (co-host)

have this really good plan for storming the beaches of Normandy.

Here it all is.

Do me a favor, don't tell anybody either.

And

Dominic Salia (guest)

Fox News would be like, if

Greg Bach (co-host)

that

Dominic Salia (guest)

were to be the case.

speech party, you know what I'm saying?

And the response from Fox News, yes, this is insight into the thought process.

That is accurate.

And yes, these are the leaders.

Now the part in between about being proud.

totally disagree with.

I mean, this is it's like frat party central.

These guys are sending smiley facing emojis, fist bump emojis.

I mean, this is this isn't a joke, people.

And then what, Stephen Miller is on there trying to shake down Egypt and Europe.

What's what are we going to get?

What's the remuneration they're going to give us for this effort if we open up these shipping lanes?

Jane Matt and Air (host)

They're looking for a payday.

Well, everything is quick pro quo with

Dominic Salia (guest)

this administration.

And that if these cats are using something like signal with for this kind of activity,

What else are they using it for?

Retain these records these things were scheduled to be deleted on specific time frames.

They're not only Hiding this from us.

They're dangerously Playing games here.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

So from Franklin listening on WAUK.

I read that these chats can be set to delete

After a certain amount of time, so how many other texts have they sent using this platform that have already been lost?

And Hegseth and Trump both trashing the Atlantic and the editor, Lion Deflect is always their response.

Greg Bach (co-host)

Lion

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Deflect, you're absolutely

Greg Bach (co-host)

right.

discredited news source.

It's the Atlantic.

It's older than your grandparents.

What are you talking about?

And the other thing too is when we come to a situation like this where you have to believe, you want to believe, there is no further down we can go on this.

Dominic Salia (guest)

I need to

Greg Bach (co-host)

ask the listeners who disagree with us, how do you defend this beyond, you can't say you have to be proud because that's a dumb line from Fox and you can't say it's a mistake.

How do you defense do you think there should be consequences in a real-world situation in a job if you shared company secrets?

You're gonna get fired So what is your defense or what do you think should happen?

And do you believe that there should be consequences listeners who disagree with us?

I wouldn't I would love to know I would love to

Jane Matt and Air (host)

know

Unfortunately, I think for the hardcore supporters, there is no line.

There

Jane Matt and Air (host)

is no

Dominic Salia (guest)

line.

Everything is

Jane Matt and Air (host)

justifiable.

Everything is fine if it's done by

Dominic Salia (guest)

Trump.

Right.

There is no line and there is no consistency in their criticism.

If there were, they would be all over this calling for Pete Hague's this and everybody else's head.

And here's the other thing about this, you know, this leadership, our national security leadership.

No, we got, we got.

All these Intel folks, not one of these folks said, you know, maybe we should take this somewhere else.

No, no one, no one, no one stood up and said, Hey, this is a bad idea doing this on here.

Everyone was, yeah, let's do this tonight.

We got, we got a full operational ops that we're totally secure.

Hey Seth, what?

And then he gets in front of the cameras and his, his, not only the words that come out of his mouth, but his mannerism, his demeanor, the way he is, it is, it is.

And, and, and he basically pulled the night, uh, Eddie Murphy, raw.

Was it raw?

I think it was raw 87.

wasn't me yeah right no there were no there were no well yeah wasn't me there was no there was no war

Greg Bach (co-host)

half the chat saying it was you know it was this and he's saying it didn't happen and he has that he has that what what su was referring to when he when he's trying to discredit the atlantic a how dare you approach to it as well like so so

offended that anyone would dare question what they do.

That's how he comes in because he's just a bully.

He is an idiot bully who failed his way into this job.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Kathleen from Libertyville.

Listening on WAUK, Hexeth was coming at the reporter like it was the reporter's

Unidentified speaker

fault.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

Now you included the reporter in this chat.

Greg Bach (co-host)

He didn't wiggle his way into this thing.

And also, if anything, Pete Hexeth should be calling this man saying, thank you for not sharing this.

What's your favorite kind of flowers?

Because honestly, he didn't have to say anything about the Atlantic.

He could just say,

Whatever is going to happen is going to happen and we will deal with if he decides to leak which would probably be classified information But the report said no he just simply said no and that for him should be the end of it But not all Pete.

Hey you Seth.

He's got to get all Boiled under the collar about it.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

If you are just joining us.

We were talking about the incredible competence Displayed by members of the Trump administration talking about war plans and talking about it on signal

which is an app we can all use

Dominic Salia (guest)

or even with a journalist.

They didn't know they invited

Jane Matt and Air (host)

that they.

Yeah.

Whoopsie doodles

Greg Bach (co-host)

from.

OK, that's the other thing.

That's the other.

Dominic Salia (guest)

And it's

Greg Bach (co-host)

his fault.

Can we can we also just take a moment?

This group of hardcore Trumpers.

Dominic Salia (guest)

Yes.

Greg Bach (co-host)

Who think the Atlantic and I'm sure the nation and MSNBC.

All of these.

They're nothing but commie rags.

Who.

invited the Atlantic, like if they wouldn't have invited Fox News or Newsmax or the Wall Street Journal or something, I get that.

But that's real, that is

Jane Matt and Air (host)

dumb.

Well, and I guess what gets me also is we have heard from the beginning that this will be the most transparent administration in history.

It

Cal (board operator)

is, we saw the

Jane Matt and Air (host)

stuff.

Dominic Salia (guest)

Apparently so.

It's

Jane Matt and Air (host)

open to anybody.

Dominic Salia (guest)

I mean... Well, and vice president,

Keeping Vance and pants up Vance and Vance was on this and he was softly questioning whether or not the timing is right Should we do this because there's some back and forth on that and Hicks out the way his response to the vice president was essentially Number one time isn't going to change the scenario and number two the longer we wait, you know it might leak

Yeah, that might that might happen.

It's all on there It is it is just it's amateur hour.

It's bushly gets all of those things and there's there's no Regret there's no Admission of of error ever never own anything ever it's always everybody else and everything else and again if this is happening on this kind of level just think of all the things that we don't know

Jane Matt and Air (host)

yeah, and it goes back to

I'm sorry, but Donald Trump is the head of this, and all of his people in his administration have now adopted the, I don't take responsibility for anything.

It's the Roy Cohn

Greg Bach (co-host)

School of Public Defense.

Yes, yes.

You attack, attack, attack.

You never admit fall.

I mean, my God, we were talking about this last week, about five years on COVID.

Him being asked, do you feel a responsibility for your administration?

No, I don't take any

Jane Matt and Air (host)

responsibility.

Greg Bach (co-host)

President of the United States, you know what you could do?

Honestly, Donald Trump, if you were smart, if you were this smart, you'd fire most of them and get people who are just as loyal to you and to show

I will not tolerate this kind of stupidity.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

And that is largely their biggest qualification is the amount of loyalty they have to him.

Donald Trump speaking about this, uh, uh, walls, Mike Walls, National Security Advisor, Mike Walls, a lot of calls now for him to step down.

And, uh, the Trump administration is saying he's learned his lesson.

Dominic Salia (guest)

He learned his lesson.

Why would you fire someone who's already loyal and now owes you a favor?

Because now you're super loyal.

You know what I'm saying?

Now you got them under their th-

I did see that Mike, I'm sorry, Mark Warner, the Senator from Virginia, he is calling for, and they're in this meeting right now, this hearing right now, calling for National Security Advisor Mike Walls and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign.

He will never get rid of Hegseth.

Jane Matt and Air (host)

I can see them sacrificing Walls as the sacrificial lamb.

He will

Greg Bach (co-host)

never get rid of Hegseth.

Hegseth was too much of a pretty boy for that.

He is a symbol for them.

Dominic Salia (guest)

And what I really want to know, and I haven't seen from the hearings yet, was it just the wrong digit?

Like, were they going to invite someone else and just go and board?

Right, right.

How did that happen?

I want to know, literally, did you go through and click and drag the wrong... I'm just curious, what was the actual functional practical invitation process whereby this editor from the Atlantic was invited to this?

Jane Matt and Air (host)

We're going to continue this discussion.

Cindy, I see you on the line.

We will take you first.

When we get back, you can join us too at 855-752-4.

You are listening to Matt Nair on air.

This is the Civic Media Radio Network.

We'll be right back.

Matt Nair (host)

Good morning.

Welcome back to Matt and air on air Jane Matt and air Greg Bach Calvitini on the board Coming to you from our studio here at radio park in Racine You can always join us caller text at 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook YouTube and the platform shedding more users than a molting parrot If you're just joining us we're talking about this little oopsie

National Security Advisor Mike Walls, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and many others in the Trump administration, discussing top secret war plans two hours before US troops conducted a bombing raid in Yemen.

They did this not in a skiff, not in a secure government facility, not even apparently using government-issued phones, unsignaled, which we can all use.

In fact,

NPR's Tom Bowman has just learned that a Pentagon-wide email went out last week about the vulnerability of using signal, quote, a vulnerability has been identified in the signal messenger application.

The app is the same one used by Pete Hegseth and other leading national security officials within the administration.

Dude, did you not get.

Did you read the memo?

Did you get the memo?

They got the memo.

Cindy from Appleton (caller)

Did you read

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

the memo?

Matt Nair (host)

Cindy from Appleton has been very patient.

Good morning, Cindy.

Thank you for joining us.

What do you want to say?

Cindy from Appleton (caller)

Well, with this national insecurity stuff, it begs the question, who are they selling us out to?

Greg Bach (co-host)

The highest bidder.

Matt Nair (host)

Well, yeah.

I agree.

It's the highest bidder.

Yeah.

And it's the it's the elons and the peter teals And I can name a whole bunch of guys who were in the first trump administration who are gonna make bank on this That's that's my opinion city.

What do you think?

Jane (co-host)

I Don't I just honestly the incompetence and the stupidity is just more than my brain can comprehend anymore I mean, it's it's it's almost laughable, but it's not funny at all

Matt Nair (host)

No, I agree with you Cindy, I do.

Thank you for calling and thank you for listening.

Greg Bach (co-host)

It's just the kind of behavior that in any other situation, any business, you'd be fired into school, you'd be suspended.

Anything that would, you would act this stupidly, there would be real consequences.

Matt Nair (host)

If any other administration, any democratic administration, if this had happened under Obama,

or biden impeachment oh my god the screeching would never end but this has been the case with so many other instances

Dom Salvia (contributor)

yeah they don't have consistency in their criticism and you're absolutely right jane to the point uh we heard donald trump yesterday when i asked about this i don't know i don't know what are you talking about

Matt Nair (host)

i don't know

Dom Salvia (contributor)

i don't know if that were to be joe uh joe biden up there saying i don't know i don't know the right wing would be going freaking nuts

Matt Nair (host)

and now

Dom Salvia (contributor)

competent yes of course these things but what do we see now and it's consistent if that were to be the case

I would also be like, damn, Joe, you know, when Joe got, I was like, whew.

I like to think in, when we observe and talk about these, these issues were consistent, you know, we have the ability to do that.

And I certainly want, you know, one side to win, you know, I'm a partisan in that regard, but I'm not going to willing to give up my own principles and values just because my guys on that team, if you see something so blatantly obvious, there's more than just the politics here.

This is literally a national security.

And all the all the screaming and crying and posting over the years from all these Republicans about Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, all you got to be very careful father.

And now they're defending to the last these efforts

Matt Nair (host)

and trying to sell it as it's a good thing.

It's a good thing.

It's looking how smart and competent they are.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the whole emotion, the whole emoji portion of it.

it is like being ruled by frat boys.

Yeah, it's juvenile.

It is.

It's absolutely

Greg Bach (co-host)

juvenile.

Frat boys, like they're being ruled by 12.

Matt Nair (host)

I'm sorry if there's any frat boys listening, I

Greg Bach (co-host)

apologize.

I guess going back to the original question I had in the earlier segment about those who disagree with us and what do you think the punishment should actually be, I guess the question is, if you think there should be no punishment, why are you so easily able to change?

Change the standard.

Dom Salvia (contributor)

Disconnect.

Greg Bach (co-host)

Why is this okay to you?

Make that make sense to me.

I'm not that smart apparently.

Dom Salvia (contributor)

And anywhere else in the chain of command in a military operation, if this were to happen, if it weren't, if it were a general or a sergeant, whatever the case, those cats would be gone.

Gone.

Gone.

Gone.

Matt Nair (host)

Gone.

855-7524842.

Ollie from the Northwoods on the line.

Good morning, Ollie.

What do you want to say about this?

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

Well, I agree with you about the frat boy things.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first heard the actual transcripts of what they said.

They were like a bunch of frat boys setting up a panty raid.

And not only that, then they have to talk about the other boys in their class that they don't like.

And so therefore, they're standing out there talking about the other governments.

and who they don't like, which makes other governments look at us even worse than the day Trump...

Matt Nair (host)

Well, right, Ali.

How can other countries assume that the United States is trustworthy anymore?

Yeah.

Greg Bach (co-host)

Well, I mean, the Canadian, the guy who took over Justin Trudeau, said plainly, two and a half weeks ago, America is a country we can no longer trust.

Matt Nair (host)

Thank you, Ali.

I appreciate you checking in.

Greg Bach (co-host)

And that's Canada.

That's not one of our enemies.

That's Canada.

Matt Nair (host)

That's evil Canadians.

Oh, I knew it.

I knew it was

Dom Salvia (contributor)

something in that syrup.

Not not only the national security risk, not only inviting the Atlantic editor, not only using emojis as our national security, I don't know, pom poms, they they rip on Europe and they try to extort Europe and in Egypt in this in this whole effort.

Oh, I'm so sick of bailing out Europe.

What are we going to get for it if we do this?

There's so much here.

Matt Nair (host)

Got to be.

Great.

We don't do anything for nothing, Dom.

You got to pay for it.

That ain't that the truth.

Dom Salvia, catch him this afternoon.

Delighted.

to be welcoming.

She is a board member for Wisconsin Ukrainians.

Karina Tweedel is on with us.

Good morning, Karina.

Thanks so much for being here.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

Good morning.

Thank you so much for having me.

Matt Nair (host)

Absolutely.

Karina, tell us a little bit about the organization that you're with and its founding and how it got started and all of that, if you would please give us a little background.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

Absolutely.

Yeah.

So when the full scale invasion of Ukraine started, a lot of us felt very passionate about trying to do anything that we can to try and resist and support our relatives and friends in Ukraine.

And it was difficult to find an organization that was local where we could donate and they were

quite a few community members that gather together and form Wisconsin Ukrainians and I'm so proud to be a part of it.

We work directly with volunteers on the front lines who are able to pass along the medical supplies and other humanitarian aid that we're able to raise money for and ship directly to Ukraine.

Matt Nair (host)

I cannot imagine the level of frustration that you and other members of your organization must be feeling right now with the switch that has happened with the second Trump administration and its attitude towards Ukraine.

And at least for me, I find it especially disturbing when I see our elected officials coming out and essentially repeating talking points from the Kremlin.

They are repeating talking points from Vladimir Putin

and trying to place Ukraine as the aggressor in all of this, when it is Russia that essentially went in and went into Ukraine.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

That's right.

It has felt really like a whiplash and a big betrayal.

I am so glad that you are mentioning that and saying so plainly that this is Russia's war against Ukraine, that Ukraine was invaded and with the

conversations that are happening right now with the narrative that we're hearing increasingly it does seem like this is from Russia's playbook which is just so surreal and extremely disheartening also frightening because this is not just some kind of political discourse we're having just about you know something that doesn't make an impact these are people's lives that we're talking about thousands and thousands of civilians that millions really who are

Ponds right now in this situation where I hope that our officials are simply uninformed.

I don't want to imply anything with intent, but it has been really difficult to see that Russia's rhetoric, the narratives that are clearly Russian propaganda have been stewed will nearly as if it's the reality where indeed

Ukraine has been invaded by Russia, and I really don't want for anybody to forget what has been going on when the full-scale invasion just started, where we saw Buche, and it's still happening.

Just hours after the latest talks, well, not the baby latest, but the ceasefire agreement with the infrastructure deal, Russia completely

disregarded that and there were so many attacks on Ukrainian civilian facilities, hospitals and energy facilities right after they said that they wouldn't do that.

But most importantly, I just want to remind our listeners about all of the atrocities that Russia created with the torch.

and abductions of children.

Thousands of children have been abducted from Ukraine.

And of course, with the deaths of civilians, what we saw with the visceral images from Buchan, this is happening, this continuous happening.

Matt Nair (host)

It's amazing to me that anyone would take Vladimir Putin at his word.

Vladimir Putin is not a trusted source.

This is not an honest, trustworthy...

Man, he's just not.

So I can't imagine what it's like for you to hear.

Vladimir Putin said this and they're not, you know, we have this agreement and it's all going to be fine.

And the next day he goes and breaks it anyway.

This is pretty much par for the course when you are dealing with Vladimir Putin.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

Exactly.

With very conservative estimates, recently, President Zelensky mentioned that

There were cases of Vladimir Putin breaking ceasefire agreements since the military action started since 2014.

And this is a vague estimate.

Of course, there are so many more cases not just related to Ukraine.

I think that's another thing that gets lost in this.

really upside down narrative that this is not just about Ukraine.

Russia has been exercising imperialistic intent towards other nations for quite a while.

This is something that's a part of how the current regime functions.

And this is not just some kind of quarrel or a conflict.

I'm putting in quotes for our listeners in the video.

between Ukraine and Russia.

Russia invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine is defending itself right now.

Ukrainians are fighting for their survival now.

Greg Bach (host)

Well, and that's the thing that I've been saying that just escapes me, especially, you know, the the the MO of America is freedom.

That's the thing we talk about all the time.

Specifically with this administration, they talk about the star-spangling freedom of all freedoms that's freedoming and they just can't stop talking about freedom.

And to me,

Ukraine is a country doing exactly what we tried what we did hundreds of years ago to defend ourselves against an aggressor We fought for our freedom.

That is what Ukraine is doing and to even broach the topic that Russia should be given sympathy or at the very least Well, we don't know all the information and and and and we don't know what Zelensky is doing Zelensky is fighting for his people and that's the American way too and to see it any other way is

It's shameful is what I think it is.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

Thank you for bringing that up.

I think it is an important point that this is about values here too.

What do we stand for?

And I would like to remind our listeners that

way back in 1994, which while it seems a while ago, I want to think that I live in a country that keeps its promises.

The United States was a part of the three nations that assured Ukraine that if Ukraine gives up its nuclear weapons to Russia that Russia, United Kingdom and the United States would protect Ukraine against anybody who encroaches on sovereignty.

So right now to act as if

United States has nothing to do with securing Ukraine's lasting peace is just really preposterous and feels like such a betrayal.

But absolutely what Ukraine is doing right now fighting for its survival is also standing for democracy and global peace.

Calvin Butenoff (host)

I

Karina Tweedel (guest)

think Ukraine's defending itself and standing against the tyranny, standing against

Russia just trying to change the world map.

However, Putin wants is the epitome of what America that I naturalized into stands

Matt Nair (host)

for.

This is

Karina Tweedel (guest)

about American values, what Ukraine is doing right now.

Matt Nair (host)

We used to be the defenders of democracy around the world.

And we used to be the place that was encouraging democracies around the world.

And apparently that's not a responsibility anymore.

I want to talk Karina.

Karina Tweedel is our guest, by the way.

She's a board member of Wisconsin, Ukrainians.

And I want to talk more about the children that were abducted by the Russians.

And we did have a program in place, at least under the Biden administration, that was trying to find these kids and reunite them with their parents.

I believe the Trump administration has now done away with that.

So we have just kind of given up, we've just kind of given up on these kids and now they're going to be raised as Russians.

Karina Tweedel (guest)

And it's something that's very emotional to me.

It's honestly difficult to talk about it, but Doge has recently defunded the Yale institution that has kept track of those abducted Ukrainian children.

And a lot of Ukraine NGOs, national government organizations, were using their data in order to find those kids and return them, reunite them with their families.

So it's extremely distressing.

And we're talking about over 19,000 kids and most likely more, but these are the official figures that we have.

Matt Nair (host)

Why?

And I think this also plays into the whole.

the desire of Russia to erase Ukraine and erase Ukrainian identity.

This is this is one way to do that.

We take their children and we tell them they're Russian and you are, you know, and it's just another way to disappear Ukraine and Ukrainians.

We're going to continue our conversation with Karina Tweedel, a board member of Wisconsin, Ukrainians.

Please stay with us.

You were listening to Matt Nair on air.

And download it right now so you can take part.

We're going to continue our conversation with Karina Tweedel.

She's a board member of Wisconsin-Ukrainians.

Wisconsin-Ukrainians.

founded in 2022, supporting Ukrainian defenders by providing medical supplies, tactical gear, thermal wear generators, food supplies, and much, much more so far.

This organization has already allocated over $665,000, which is not a small amount of money.

Karina Tweedel, continuing our conversation.

Karina, there has been some...

criticisms, I guess, before Volodymyr Zelensky was elected president, as far as whether or not the government of Ukraine was on the up and up.

And it's my understanding that Zelensky was elected in order to take some of that on and kind of make it a better, cleaner kind of government.

Is that accurate or am I, or am I wrong?

Karina Tweedel (interviewee)

No, I think even just you speaking about the changes that have been going on within the Ukrainian government is a testament to Ukraine's people speaking up and wanting change and wanting just government where they're able to prosper and express themselves.

I think that's a good sign that while it's not

pleasant to live through different changes.

I think that really shows how Ukraine is just becoming more and more democratic.

And sometimes you might hear some Russian propaganda about the blatant corruption that's happening, which Ukraine has done.

So much work to make sure that the especially the monies that have been coming for support of Ukrainian defenders the America's contributions have been they heavily Kind of like investigated just to make sure that things go where they're supposed to go.

So I think

the political situation within Ukraine is just getting better and better.

And it's really encouraging to see how the people feel like their voice does matter based on their actions.

And I think it's something that we should remember as well here in America.

It's so easy to get discouraged right now.

And part of what our organization does is bring people together.

And we're welcoming of anybody.

You don't have to be Ukrainian to participate in our events.

Once again, Wisconsin-Ukrainian Inc.

is the name of our organization.

And I feel like anybody who believes in freedom and justice is absolutely welcome to join our...

Rose and something that we do is empower people to know that their voice has a difference in policy that we are not going to just stand by and see our world crush.

We encourage everybody to reach out to their elected officials and we even train if somebody has never done that, I or lots of members of our organization would be willing to help them to reach out to their congresspeople and share that what our administration is doing does not represent

all Americans, and that we stand for justice, we stand for democracy and freedom all over the world.

Matt Nair (host)

What kinds of things are you hearing from people in Wisconsin?

Karina, I'm curious.

Karina Tweedel (interviewee)

Were you asking about Ukrainians or just general population?

Just

Matt Nair (host)

general population of Wisconsin.

What kind of reception have you gotten from Wisconsinites?

Karina Tweedel (interviewee)

Oh, sure.

You know, we've been really fortunate to hear so many encouraging words, especially after the just extremely difficult interview between President Zelensky and President Trump.

We've received so many words of support saying that, you know, that particular interview does not represent what Americans feel.

And it's been great to hear words of support.

I just want to encourage our listeners

to not only speak on their social media outlets, but also reach out to their elected officials.

But I am extremely grateful and I know all of our community members from Ukraine are just beyond grateful for hearing.

this overwhelming support that we've received after especially some instances where it seems that our administration, U.S.

administration has not been acting in Ukraine's or really U.S.

interests.

Greg Bach (contributor)

Yeah, the meeting between the presidents and the vice president was one where I wanted to, like, I'm glad you're hearing that because for me, I know that I don't have a line presence to President Zelensky, but I just want to be like, I'm sorry, that's not us.

We believe in you and what you are fighting for with your people.

So thank you so much for being here today, Karina.

Matt Nair (host)

Karina, we're going to put your organization's website link in our show notes after the show is over.

Other than financial support, what can folks do if they want to get involved real quickly?

Karina Tweedel (interviewee)

You're welcome to go on our website.

We have a lot of events where we are trying to spread Ukrainian culture.

As you mentioned earlier, there's an attack on Ukrainian culture right now.

Ukrainian people are trying to be eradicated by Russia.

So by being interested in Ukrainian culture, this is definitely a way to resist.

And feel free to look us up at Wisconsin-Ukrainian's Inc.

And we are happy to have anybody at our events who just had

on egg decorating event happened just this past weekend.

So everybody's welcome to join.

Matt Nair (host)

Karina Tweedal with, as a board member with Wisconsin, Ukrainians again.

We will get that link in our show notes.

This is the portion of the program that we like to call Audio Sorbet.

Cherub Angels.

We do.

Try to lighten things up a little bit and I wanted to share.

We got the nicest email from Todd last week.

Greg Bach

Yeah.

Jane Matt

Just saying how much he enjoys Audio Sorbet gives us all a chance to take a breath.

We know there's a lot of really important frightening disturbing things going on and we do spend a lot of time on this show Talking about those things, but we've all discussed this and agreed.

We all need a chance to take a breath Maybe get a couple laps.

It's good for you.

Greg Bach

Yes, and there have been some people who have said it

We need to talk about the stuff we need.

And we do.

And we do.

And we do.

Every day we talk about it for anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes a day.

And I don't mean to sound like a jerk here, but it's your show, Jane.

And if we're going to, if we're going to keep it, and you want to keep it light in the last half hour, we got to laugh because however long he's in office, however long this goes on, you will laugh.

You will laugh with friends.

You will laugh with family.

You will laugh.

I hope so.

So let's laugh together.

Keep our eyes on the prize.

Yes.

Voting next Tuesday.

Yes.

And let's laugh a little for now.

Jane Matt

So we wanted to talk about travel hacks.

Greg Bach

Yeah.

Jane Matt

What is your travel hack?

I just got back from a couple of days out of town seeing a friend in Texas.

And by the way, I hope everybody has a friend like I have in Texas.

We don't get to see each other very often.

And it is like I saw her yesterday.

every time we get together.

We might not see each other for three years.

And yet, every time we see each other, it's like no time has passed.

I hope you all have a friend like I do.

It's really a wonderful gift.

But what is your travel hack?

855-752-4842.

What is your travel hack?

I have two.

First of all, use the code check at Mitchell International Airport.

Greg Bach

Which I know right now, some people are saying,

What coat check at Mitchell International Airport?

Jane Matt

There is a coat check at Mitchell International Airport When I got there on last Thursday and I went up to the information booth Nicola lovely woman.

Greg Bach

We had a

Jane Matt

long chat.

She's hilarious It's in the summerfest store.

Okay So if you want if you're going somewhere warm like I was I was going to Texas and I didn't want to take my big winter coat along with me You can check it for two bucks a day.

Greg Bach

That is by far probably the cheapest thing

in Mitchell Airport.

It's great.

Yes, it actually is.

I mean, I don't think there is anything.

I don't think you can get gum

Jane Matt

for less than $2

Greg Bach

at the airport.

Yeah, I was gonna say, when I, oh my God, I paid five bucks for a travel size thing of sanitizer.

Jane Matt

Oh yeah.

It's five bucks.

No, this is a, it's great.

It's a great deal.

And it's, it's, it's just so handy.

Greg Bach

So

Jane Matt

that's one travel hack.

I don't know if other airports have this.

If they don't, they should.

Yeah.

about the coat check at Mitchell International Airport.

It's at Summerfest.

Two bucks a day, completely worth it.

The other travel hack my friend shared with me that I was visiting with for ladies in particular and guys too.

If you have ladies, you like to wear aftershave or, you know, you want to smell nice.

Yeah.

If you want to get around the whole liquid problem and bringing a full bottle of perfume, you can take a little container of Vaseline.

OK.

and spray your favorite smell in there and mix it up, and then you just dab a little Vaseline on that will have your favorite scent.

Greg Bach

I just think the only for guys who spray it on their necks, they'll be like, hey, Todd, why is your neck so shiny?

Jane Matt

Well, I'm not saying slather Vaseline on yourself.

Greg Bach

It's a little

Jane Matt

dabble-doo.

A little dabble-doo.

That sounds like a marketing line.

Was a marketing

Greg Bach

loan.

It was.

Jane Matt

Yes, it was.

855-752-4842.

What is your travel hack?

What's your travel secret?

What's something you've discovered that just, it might seem like a small thing, but it really, it's like, that was great.

This worked out so well.

I mean,

Greg Bach

for me, my travel, I mean, cause, I think for me, my travel hack, one basic, it is not free.

But it is kind of a hack is that if you fly, if you know you fly once a year or twice a year, I would severely, severely suggest you enroll in TSA pre-check.

It is $75 for five years.

It's very easy to enroll in.

You do have to go to a location and kind of like sign some paperwork, but you skip the line.

You don't have to take your shoes off.

You have to take your shoes off.

Which just says to me, we don't have to take them off in the first place, but that's beside the point.

But I think that if you travel once or twice a year, $75 for five years, that is definitely worth it.

And we have something called Clear, which actually gets you through all lines.

So it pushes you right to the front of, even if there's, even if there's a TSA pre-check line, it pushes you past that.

Look at you.

It's expensive and I forgot to I forgot to cancel last year, so I'm just gonna enjoy it But I just I think the TSA pre-check is great and I would also say um I mean I'm trying I gotta think some more because all my other travel hacks are like packing But that's a great

Jane Matt

travel Eric from Tosa just texted in rolling clothes.

Yes versus flat folding.

Yes extra one-third of space you save on luggage fees.

Yes roll your stuff

Greg Bach

especially now that

Southwest is doing away with their two free bags.

Yes.

So if you want to pack less, cause you know, Southwest is about to suck out loud, but it's, yeah, for me, it's, it's rolling up or bought like balling up t-shirts or you can place t-shirts on top of each other and make like a bigger, like, but I like the rolling.

Jane Matt

The rolling is, it's really, it is, and it saves you so much room.

Greg Bach

Yeah.

Jane Matt

It does.

Sue from Franklin, I agree 100%.

It is so worth it talking about the coat check.

At Mitchell, we went to the airport, right by the information desk, no appointment required.

Yep, the coat check at Mitchell is in the Summerfest store.

It's fantastic, two bucks a day.

Tyler from Columbia County, listening in Madison on WMDX.

I have TSA pre-check, it's called Amtrak.

I save money and enjoy the journey.

That's great.

I mean, if you get to, if you've got the time,

Greg Bach

that's the thing with Amtrak and trains are not cheap.

If you're going far, like if you went to Chicago, that's absolutely fine.

If you're going to, I mean, I really want to take the Borealis train to Minneapolis this year.

I think that'd be very fun.

But I mean, Milwaukee, if you're like, I'm going to Los Angeles via train, that's you, you can't do that.

Just sitting, you have to get a room and the rooms are expensive.

Unless someone wants to buy me or Amtrak, you want to sponsor me.

I'll talk great about Amtrak.

Jane Matt

Matt and Air on Air always open to sponsorships.

Exactly.

Terry from Cross Plains, Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check.

120 bucks, many credit cards reimburse the fee.

Plus, if you have a United card, you don't have to pay for bags.

Same with a Delta credit card.

If you travel overseas, Global Entry is the way to go.

Yeah, there's... It is fantastic.

My husband and I use it all the time.

And that will, if you've ever flown into Chicago,

from overseas, flying to O'Hare and you finally get from your gates down into a passport check and there's 400 people in line.

If you have global entry, you go over to a machine and it's zip zip and boom you're through.

It's fantastic.

Greg Bach

I have a thing on my phone right now that I didn't really learn how to use well my wife because my wife works for a Canadian bank.

Okay.

And she goes to Canada a lot.

Yeah, exactly.

And she has an app called Arrive Canada.

And it allows you to declare, it allows you to do all like the paperwork before you.

Oh, nice.

And then the other one, the other app she has is CBP MPC.

It is also, I believe for going to Canada, it allows you to just skip the lines.

It allows you to just get in and get through.

I am not smart enough to work this thing.

Every time I try to do it, it didn't work, but luckily the lines were not that long.

But any app that is sponsored by the government that helps you travel, look into

Jane Matt

it.

Look into it.

And again, if you only travel once a year, once every five years,

Greg Bach

it might not

Jane Matt

be worth it

Greg Bach

for you.

Jane Matt

But if you do it more than that, certainly it is worth it just for the lesson.

Aggravation yeah, shall we

Calvin (board operator)

say flying

Jane Matt

now so much fun.

Oh, I know a text from Shelly listening on Madison on WAUK Put shower caps on your shoes What so if you stay in a hotel, you know and sometimes they will give you the yeah this soap and the little and this that you can take with you and there's usually a shower cap in there Yeah, so if you are squishing everything in and you don't want you know the bottom of your shoes are dirty

So you just put

Calvin (board operator)

a little shower

Greg Bach

cap,

Jane Matt

you'll put a little shower

Greg Bach

cap on your

Jane Matt

shoes and then you don't have to worry about them getting the rest of your things in your luggage dirty.

Greg Bach

And if you are packing shoes, pack socks and underwear in the shoes.

Jane Matt

I do that all the time.

Greg Bach

And also, if you don't do the pre-check, I would even say if you're going somewhere colder, unless it's like dangerously cold.

I will go in a pair of basketball shorts and flip-flops and a t-shirt.

That way, there's no belt to mess with, no watch to mess with.

The only thing I have in my hand is my phone, which has my ID and my ticket.

Because then I can just at least travel.

Because we all love the recombobulation area.

We do.

But sometimes, it's discombobulating to get your stuff.

And it's really, really frustrating.

So yeah, that's what I do too.

But not anymore.

TSA Pre-Check.

Jane Matt

What are your travel hacks?

8-5-5-7-5-2, 4-8-4-2, 8-5-5-7-5 Civic.

It makes it easier when you travel.

What do you do?

Do you roll as opposed to fold?

I like the Vaseline and the perfume idea.

That's, I mean,

Greg Bach

yeah.

Jane Matt

But I found it interesting too.

Everybody, it seems to me, every TSA has different rules.

Yes.

It used to be standard that the same rules applied.

When I went through Mitchell last week, I had to take my shoes off.

I put them in a bin.

They took them out of the bin and all the shoes went through individually.

When I went through Austin, that didn't happen.

Greg Bach

I'm trying to think what state I flew back from and I want to say it's one from the West.

Like Colorado or something or Point is you go to the you go to the the airport and at one point a lady just shouts out Don't worry about your shoes or computers.

Don't worry about we're not doing that today today, and I'm like Once again proves my point we don't have to take our shoes off

Jane Matt

We don't have to take our belts off but well that's still where we are

But anyway, all right, when we return, we're going to wrap it up as we always do with this shouldn't be a thing.

Today it is the no strain or no gain.

If you ever have a thing you think should not be or you would like to share some completely unsolicited praise about the show like Todd did,

Greg Bach

which is

Jane Matt

so nice.

Coming up on the show tomorrow, we got a jam-packed show for you.

Ben Wickler is gonna be here in the first hour.

Karina Hendrickson, who we have spoken to before about childcare in Wisconsin.

We haven't heard a lot about this.

This issue has not gone away and it's not gotten better.

And I'm sure if you were a parent or even a grandparent, you know the challenges there are with trying to find childcare.

Jane (co-host)

I feel like, and we spoke to Darren Madison yesterday, who's a rep from a rep of Milwaukee in Madison.

And we talked about the fact that this is a topic that is on top of mind for the taxpayers of Wisconsin, specifically parents and maybe grandparents as well.

And it's not being given the proper attention by the powers that be

Matt (host)

in the state house.

So no, it's really not.

So Kareen Hendrickson will be joining us.

after 10 30 to talk about childcare in Wisconsin and what if anything folks can do so I hope you will join us for that right now though it's 11 54 Calvin that means it's time for

Jane (co-host)

this shouldn't

Matt (host)

be a thing today's tis bets from the New York Post Bastion of journalistic integrity Tracy Swartz with the byline headline reads nutritionist recommends

Eating like a baby to lose weight.

Here's how.

Puree genius.

Nice, huh?

If you're looking to shed stubborn pounds, you may go Goo Goo Gaga for this diet plan.

A registered dietitian, chef and nutritionist, Nicolette Pace from Long Island recommends eating like a baby.

Quote, a baby is the key to adult well-being, unquote.

It's remarkable that a baby without any life experience can give us a roadmap to live healthy, unquote.

I'm sorry, just a quick side note, Nicolette.

Babies will eat anything that they find on the floor.

So I don't know that maybe she's giving them a little too much credit.

Jane (co-host)

I think so.

I think maybe we're giving the parents credit

Matt (host)

for what they're eating.

A little too much.

So here's her thing.

If you want to lose weight, eat like a baby.

Some of this I don't disagree with, eat every two to four hours.

Because that's part of the problem.

People tend to overeat because you're hungry, you don't eat breakfast, and you're really, really hungry, and then lunch comes and it's like you eat everything in sight.

So it's about having smaller snacks throughout the day to try and fend off that hunger.

So okay, eat every two to four hours, that's fine.

Take your time.

Babies typically feed for 15 to 30 minutes.

Jane (co-host)

No one, you didn't see me as a baby.

Matt (host)

She suggests taking at least 15 minutes to finish a meal.

There's nothing, I think it's nice to linger over, you know, take your time.

You want to make sure that you're enjoying it, not just shoving it.

Eating quickly makes it harder for your brain to register that you're full.

Yes.

Which can result in overeating.

One of the other recommendations to eat like a baby.

Avoid mindless munching.

This is where babies would be all about mindless munching They would mindless munch a nail if they found

Jane (co-host)

this is not how like Babies aren't mindfully eating in these patterns.

They're not like that They're not in their little baby brain saying like, you know, I really need to say I spent two hours to say it last time really maybe it's just that maybe I'm not hungry Maybe I'm just thirsty.

I'll have some water

Matt (host)

there.

Jane (co-host)

Yeah, I mean these are all

Very, very smart things that doctors and nutritionists will tell you if you want to lose weight.

But let's, let me stop right there.

Talk to your doctor.

Talk to your doctor.

Talk to a nutritionist.

Yes.

And find out what the best plan is for you.

Because it's different for everybody.

I better not hear about the baby diet.

Matt (host)

Eat like a baby.

Does she not?

Nutritionist recommends eating like a baby to lose weight.

Jane (co-host)

So strain peas in a high top chair.

with just

Matt (host)

food all over my face.

With a bib.

No, again, it's more about eating more frequently, taking your time when you eat, and have some nutritious snacks throughout the day.

Jane (co-host)

Be sensible.

It's always about the two things.

You can drink all the potions.

You can do whatever you want.

It's about a good exercise plan and a good eating plan.

That's what every doctor is going to tell you every single time.

That wraps up today's episode of...

This shouldn't be a thing.

I just want to say it's someone out there listening to WFHR.

They just typed in the word Beg, B-E-G.

Bed.

It's bed, B-E-D.

Check your phone if you're listening to WFHR.

You got two minutes.

Two minutes.

Matt (host)

To text in the word bed.

Thank you, Greg and Calvin and all of our engineers without you, nothing works.

And thank you, most of all, for calling and for texting and for listening.

It really does mean the world.

I hope you find some joy today.

and you get the chance to share it.

Keep it right here, news coming up next on the Civic Media Radio Network.

We'll see you tomorrow.
