Looks like the deep freeze is just about to end.
We have much warmer weather coming our way just in the next couple of days.
So Brittany will have an update about that.

Right before the top of the hour news, we were talking about social security and what that would mean to you, to us, if you would lose your social security.
We did have a bunch of texts that we didn't have an opportunity to get to, so I would like to address some of those.

How important is social security to you?
John from Milwaukee texting in, you continue to try and scare the elderly and disabled.
You have been using the same fear mongering tactics for 40 years.
But social security hasn't been touched.
Have you no shame?
I think this is a good point, Calvin, to play that clip from Howard Lucknick, who is our new Commerce Secretary talking to Jesse Waters on the fake news network about this very thing.
Let's play that clip, please.
When I set up Doge with Elon, so back in October, Elon Musk and I, I flew down to Texas, got Elon Musk to do it, and here was our agreement, that Elon was going to cut a trillion dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse.
Think about it.
We have almost four trillion dollars of entitlements, and no one's ever looked at it before.
You know Social Security is wrong.
You know Medicaid and Medicare are wrong.
So he's going to cut a trillion, and then we're going to get rid of all these tax scams that hammer
against America, and we're going to raise a trillion dollars of revenue.
And our objective under Donald Trump is to balance this budget.
And I'm telling you, you watch it, we're going to do it.
You know Social Security
is

I'm going to pretend like John is watching.
He's not.
He's listening, which is fine.
John, come closer.
Do you think any of those tax scams that they're talking about are going to be closing loopholes on the rich or businesses that don't pay?
any taxes are very little and take take our taxes out more and more.
Do you think that that man's going to do that?
No, he's not.
That was not our words.
That was our Commerce Secretary on Fox News talking about how Social Security has done quote unquote wrong.
So don't look at us about scaremongering.
Mike Lee from Utah is on record.
There's a video of him saying, I want to rip out Social Security root and stem.
You can look it up.
Yeah.
Uh, I, I think it's, I think it's irresponsible to say that we're fear mongering because we're not, we, I'm not fear mongering.
I'm afraid.
Cause as we've said, I, that's my money, that my, it's somewhere in that pile of money is the money I've been paying.
And since I was 12 years old, so yeah, you could, it might not have been touched, but we have people who have their targets on it and they say they're not going to do anything about it, but.
When can you trust them?
But there's also a whole bunch of people who need Medicaid, who have worked most of their lives and either had an injury or an illness, and now they need Medicaid in order to live.
And by the way, when we talk about fear mongering, just briefly I want to throw this in.
Can we just say NRA?
who has been fear-mongering for more than 50 years that the Democrats are coming for your guns.
They're coming for your guns.
You know what has never happened in 50 years?
Anyone coming to take your guns.
So please don't come at me with fear-mongering.
I really don't have the patience for it today, but thank you for checking in.

You can't pull the rug out from under them.
Kimber from Muskaday says, I have, I use dark humor to cope.
She says, I tell myself, yes, I'll live down by the river, but I don't have a van and there are no rich people to eat.
Okay.
I mean, that's the thing is, is, is that there are real time consequences.
And if I don't know if John was listening to the previous individuals calling, but these are people who are making real life decisions with that, with their social security, do I pay for groceries?
Do I pay for heat?
Do I pay for my house?
Do I pay for my car?
Does that sound like the American dream to you, John, or anyone else who thinks that we're scaremongering or fear mongering?
These are real time issues.
And when a man who is the commerce secretary, who, by the way, I didn't know he co-created Doge, I thought that was Vivek Ramaswamy, but he just got in the mix all of a sudden says that social security is done wrong.
Then how are they going to correct it?
Cause I know that's not going to be about our best interest.
And those people will include Trump voters as well.
Absolutely.
This is going to affect all of us.
I'm concerned for all of us.
I don't care how you vote.
This is about concerns for our fellow Americans who have worked all of their lives and paid into the system and with the assumption that that was going to be there for them.
Carol, in a walk-a-shot texting in, listening on WAUK, to be honest, we're only in our early 60s.
We planned on our retirement, not including social security.
My biggest fear is loss of Medicare or Medicaid for over 65 as nursing home care can lead to financial ruin very quickly.
You're absolutely
right, Carol.
That's the quickest way.
Medical bills.
And nursing home care, probably the quickest ways to go bankrupt in this country.
Ryan from Milwaukee texting in, I'm 39.
I've worked since I was in high school and I meet the requirements for SSA.
I'm applying for SSDI because of my health and I can't work now.
I'm screwed.
If I don't get SSDI or Social Security is taken away, I have meds and housing that need to be taken care of.
This is we and the the text go on and on the calls come in and and and Jean from Eau Claire, we see you will get to you in a moment, but they're all saying the same thing.
Nobody is taking their Social Security money and buying their fourth house with it.
They're using it to try to fully live.
And if you have a group of people in the White House, whose best laid plan is to say, instead of going over it with a fine tooth comb, like the J6 traders, they're just going to say, nah, to hell with it.
Let's just get rid of it.
Because that's their plan.
That's how they like doing things.
And he wanted to find $2 trillion in quote unquote, wasteful spending.
That's going to be directed at us, the taxpayers, the middle class, the working class, the working poor, and the poor.
the millionaires and billionaires like Elon and all his little buddies.
It's us with the target on our forehead.
Oh, absolutely.
And the recipients of this big tax cut, these big savings, it's not going to be us.
No Elon needs a bigger tax cut Jeff Bezos needs a bigger tax cut Mark Zuckerberg needs a bigger tax cut.
Those guys are struggling.
Yeah, absolutely.

You know, this is a hostile takeover.

think that they've paid in for forever i'm in the retirement benefit and things like that i think this is what this is and this is not fear-mongering this is a fact they're talking about it and and
They were trying to do this years ago, and it was stopped.
And Ron Johnson, the Ponzi scheme, gave me a break, Johnson, that it just drives me nuts.
But anyway, also we paid into this for our entire life.
Many of us
worked two and three jobs at a time.
We didn't complain because we were paying into a retirement.
So it is retirement, it's not entitlement, and they better cut it out.
This is sickening.

So, I mean, that man has probably the darkest, craziest thoughts I've ever, I don't even want to delve into.

Mark, what say you about social security?
Such a, such a easy topic to talk about.
Well, it's a easy topic to talk about for me that in 1970, my dad coming back from celebrating his 38th birthday with my mom a few days before it stopped.
And this is far north of Wisconsin.
It's had to
dropped my mom off and rode back on the road a half mile or so, and to give a guy a jump to a stall alongside the road.
It was between the two cars that could fix up the jumper cables, which normally would have had it with them, but didn't.
They had to run home and get them.
Drunk driver came along, and my dad was between the two cars and was severely injured after he flew 40 feet in the air and dropped in the ditch and had compound fractures, and one leg and fractures, and the other and was in the hospital.
quite a while.
It was on disability from work at the oil refinery for a significant period of time after he got out of the hospital and was on SSI for a while after his disability had run out.
Now, disability payment kept us in our house and kept us fed until he was able to go back to work.
It was a lifesaver for my family back in 1970.
It left an impact on my dad.
There's stuff we couldn't do together because of

was a,

I've been trying to gauge how you're feeling because I know you were very excited about the snow, so you got your snow, and now it's gonna melt.
Are you
okay?
I'm hanging in there for the moment.
I'm trying to be okay with this because I know that most of the state wants the 40s, but up north, we're not happy.
We're not happy about it at all.
So
we do have a big warm-up coming.
Yeah.
It's starting right now.
I mean, temperatures today, right?
We're going to hit those low 20s.
We're already in the mid 20s in some places.
And we'll put that on repeat for tomorrow.
Then by Saturday, we'll be in the low 30s.
Sunday, above freezing.
And Monday, a lot of the state hitting 40s.
Some places getting into the mid 40s.
And that holds Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at least.
But it's not going to be that spring, sunny, beautiful.
Forties that you're thinking like today looks beautiful.
It's not gonna look like that when the forties are here.
What's it
gonna be Brittany?
I know Greg you hate it DJ flip mix says it's gonna be a wintry mix all across the state More chances for snow obviously the further north and east you live and more chances for Freezing rain and regular rain the further southwest that you live in the state So this is gonna be the case Monday Tuesday Wednesday.
We're looking at these systems really becoming
You know, kind of consistent through the area.
Now they're not major.
It doesn't look like a big blast of freezing rain or anything like that, but it'll be sprinkled in and out and heavy at times on occasion.
So it's kind of a mess that starts then and it continues into early next month.
I mean, we're looking at potentially a big storm hitting early March.
So
just a heads up, everybody.
A
big snow storm.
You know, one of those that really packs the punch of heavy snow, then actually puts a layer of ice down and a lot of rain.
One of those, the spring good ones.
I can't even use words
that
are allowed on the radio to say what I want to say about that.
We
need to keep this license.
Yeah, we want to keep it
clean.
That's just being Brittany.
That's just mean.
You knew it was going to be around the corner.
It happens every year.
Do you see me near
all just on my name?
I didn't know.
Yes, you do.
You knew when the hair was standing up in the back of your neck.
You knew it was there.
My concern is with this big warm-up that we're going to have so suddenly, what this is going to do to potential for flooding.
Yes.
So up north, we're worried about our snow melting.
We've got a foot of snow on the ground.
Down in southern parts, you've got about a half a foot of snowpack on the ground right now.
And with temperatures in the 40s, it should be melting at least a half an inch of snow per day at least.
We could lose around an inch.
Potentially so all of that moisture is going to go into the soil.
It's going to be absorbed.
It's going to get saturated It's going to puddle up in places and it's going to become muddy The major flooding I don't think we're looking at anything too wild but obviously in your basements and areas farm fields will as well But the heavy precipitation does hold off until at least Wednesday, so it's nothing major on top of a melt
but it will cause some localized areas to definitely see some flooding going on and snowmobile trails probably closing, which they're having a blast right now.
It's sad.
Well, and this has been, I mean, it's not been a great winter for tourism in northern Wisconsin, but it's certainly better than it was last year.
Absolutely.
It was thriving just last weekend.
The trails were all open pretty much all across northern Wisconsin, even in portions of southern parts of the state, but people using them, going into the restaurants, giving their money to the bars in the area and the local tourists.
It's been great.

Galvin, I know that you had a specific question for Ms.
Merlot.
Yeah, I guess mine is a...
little outside of the present weather situation.
But so I vaguely understand what wind chill is.
Like, it's how we feel the temperature is.
But if our feelings are subjective, how do we measure wind chill?
Yeah.
Oh, that's a great question.
Um, so basically wind chill is you have to imagine like our bodies
we lose heat through convection, right?
That happens.
And now if there's no wind out there, we've got this layer of warmth kind of wrapped around our body, our body heat in a sense.
Well, if the wind blows, and depending on how strong it is, which is part of the measurement, it breaks up that insulating layer.
It takes the warmth away from you.
You lose heat more rapidly.
So everyone is a human, you know, you're going down from your normal body temperature because of those winds and because of that cold.
So yes, it's kind of subjective on how you handle the cold, but overall,
it's a process that's just taking that heat away from us that we're used to staying warm with.
So that's why we say dress in layers because the more layers hold that in and obviously the windbreaker part as the most outermost shell is the best to keep you warmer.
I think we need Mad Nairnair windbreakers.
I'm just gonna
put that out there.

I was scolded earlier this week because we were warning people about those, and they were dangerously cold temperatures.
When we're talking windshields of 25 below, you can get frostbite really, really quickly.
And yes, I was scolded because only Democrats think people are so stupid.
that we have to warn them and tell them to dress warmly in cold weather.
And my response to that is...
We put warning labels on pizza boxes.
Do not eat frozen, remove cardboard before putting an oven.
So I don't know.
I guess I do feel the new need just from time to time to remind folks to protect themselves.
Also, real quick question.
If your mom or your grandma says, hey, put a coat on, put a hat on, are you going to call her a stupid Democrat to her face?
No, you're not.

Where would you like to start, Paul Noonan?
I think we may as well start with Bobby Portis and the Bucks because that is breaking news fresh off of the the internet.
The report's coming out that Bobby Portis is likely to be suspended for 25 games for violating the NBA's substance abuse policy.
He released a statement, his agents did, claiming that he meant to take toretal, the very common, somewhat dangerous, pain killing medication that a lot of athletes take, and instead took something called tormidol, which is banned by the league.
It is an opioid.
I think they both are, honestly.
It is an interesting story to tell because...
The Bucks may do things a little differently than some other teams I talk to, but generally speaking, at the professional level, Toradol is not taken orally.
There is an oral version of it, but it's generally given by IV.
So it's not something you can really make a mistake on most of the time.
Not saying that Bobby is telling a fib, but there is, it's plausible.
There's an oral version of Toradol, but
I think one of the reasons that they do it via IV is to avoid problems like this.
So this is bad for the Bucks for a lot of reasons.
Bobby Portis is one of the more important players on the team and especially allowing them to run small.
They don't have a lot of depth generally on the Bucks.
They definitely don't have a lot of depth at that position.
At the trade deadline, they did acquire as a kind of afterthought to the big Middleton Calcuzma trade.
Jericho Sims, who is kind of someone who can play that position, but is not great.
And the Bucks are fifth right now.
You don't like to get the fourth spot.
This is really going to hurt them down the stretch.
It is just the wrong time to lose Bobby Portis when you're trying to desperately make up ground and set yourself up in the playoffs in a good position.
And it's just going to be hard for the Bucks to pull that off
now.
It sounds like splitting hairs to me as far as the difference between these two substances that you mentioned.
If they're both opioids, that's the same family.
Yeah, I can't speak to the NBA's banned versus unbanned substances, but you know, this is one of those things where as long as you pay attention to the team trainers, as long as you don't go off brand and take things that you shouldn't be taking, this is all spelled out very clearly at all levels of sport.
It is frankly something that's difficult to make a mistake and you need to be on a bunch of not a bunch, but you need to be doing your own thing off the books.
generally for mistakes to even happen and the I will say it strikes me as unlike the excuse it sounds plausible because they're so close spelling wise but
You don't just have the illegal substances laying around.
That's the thing.
You shouldn't be able to make the mistake because it shouldn't be there in the first place.
You had to go out of your way to acquire the illegal substance.
You can't just walk into, you know, any old place without a prescription and buy yourself any of these things.
Like, so I'm not in a mood at the moment to give Bobby a lot of the benefit of the doubt.
The
Yeah, the question and two is like, you know that the policies are very straightforward The as you're saying they both seem to be in the same family.
This seems a very like a very very thin excuse, but His lawyer or his manager might be able to negotiate with the NBA
because I see this all the time with other sports and enhancement drugs.
They'll say like, oh, you're suspended for this many games.
They're like, well, we're going to appeal it, and they get to play, and then the appeal goes on later, or they just appeal it down.
So there can be no real consequences at the end of the day.
They're saying 25 games.
It might not even be that.
It could be less, because that's the negotiation part of it all.
With the statement he's already released though, I think getting any reduction in games is going to be very difficult.
Typically accidental consumption isn't a good enough excuse with the league substance abuse policy to get a reduction in games.
And since he's essentially admitted it already, I think that that is very, very unlikely at this point, that he's probably going to be serving that and would be better served to do it sooner rather than later.
They're 54 games in, I think, 53 games into the season.
And you may as well get that out of the way sooner rather than later.
Is there a financial component to this?
I mean, or is it just you don't get to play 25 games?
I was just curious.
I mean, because otherwise it's like, okay, well, I don't get to play.
But
right.
But what kind of, what does this bring to the locker room then?
I
mean, all locker rooms are different, but nobody likes when your carelessness or, you know, we don't know that it was outright cheating.
We can take Bobby's word a little bit, but.
It is not good for the locker room that this one player will end up costing everybody, like possibly playoff seating possible.
It puts everybody in such a bad position.
Maybe more minutes for Giannis and Damian Lillard down the stretch trying to grind into that four spot when you could maybe be resting a little bit.
Like this has huge knock on effects.
It brings trust into the equation.
I'm not sure how the Bucks locker room has been generally since the Middleton deal.
No evidence that it's been anything other than good.
But Giannis even said the other day that, you know, that the prime out of Milwaukee is not interested in being traded.
I'll thought that's always good to hear.
But this is the kind of thing without Middleton there anymore, with sort of already changing and breaking up the locker room to some extent, that it's not good.
You want people to be gelling and getting used to each other.
Since you have new players, you don't want trust issues.
You don't want to be injecting new talent into the lineup.
It's not going to play in the playoffs at this late stage in the season.
It's just bad all around.

Let's move on to summertime and baseball and Mark Atanasio.
gosh, Greg.
Yeah, heavy sigh from Greg Bach over there.
But Marc Adonazio did a press availability the other day with a lot of national and local reporters.
I know Todd Rosiak was there from the Journal Sentinel.
I know Ken Rosenthal and Bob Nightingale were there nationally because they all wrote about it.
They all wrote about it differently.
But the big takeaway is that Marc Adonazio spent a lot of time in this interview.
defending the brewers off season spending or more importantly lack thereof and basically just going over how they've been so successful without doling out huge contracts most of the time uh that it made an excuse that he actually would be okay spending money but the baseball ops people the brewers front office uh didn't want them to this year that they wanted to trust in their development so they told him no on a few things and like that is uh
offensive slash implausible front offices will always take money whenever you give it to them and also had a quote out there basically this is a little out of context but the context is weird saying is it my job to win the world series or is it just my job to provide fun for the summer for people and so bob nightingale ran with that he is i would say no i'll just say
Bob Nightingale is dishonest in how he frames things on a fairly regular basis.
There was some more context to that, but the context doesn't make it great.
It just makes it better.
It was kind of a rambling answer that Atanasio gave when talking about giving Christian Yellich an extension and whether that was necessarily in the best interest of the team or just something we did for fans, which was that's why it's kind of clouded.
It could be interpreted as both insulting Yellich and also saying Yellich is a very important part of the team, but it didn't sound good.
But it sounded like it was an afterthought to be chasing World Series, that it was good to be putting a winner on the field.
And really, really an untrained interview.
Usually, I feel like owners are better at giving just bland, non-answers to questions
like
And Atanasio really let himself ramble and really made himself sound.
bad, even in the most optimistic, the most light-hearted coverage of how that went.
Fans have not taken kindly to it.
He's been made fun of a lot on over at Blue Sky and other places.
And it also sounds like they're just not going to do anything in terms of adding any major free agents.
There's not really any more left to sign.
Of like the six top free agents left from last year by war that play position war being wins above replacement to play positions that the brewers could potentially use.
They're almost all ex brewers.
Um, it's Yasmini grandals.
The top catcher left.
Um, Louis year is just signed.
So he's gone.
Mark Kana's the top left fielder left.
Uh, the top first baseman left are G man.
Shoei and rowdy Thales.
Like that's what's left on the free agent mark.

You know, what do you think about this?

Paul, you covered it really well.
And I sent you a little, I'm sorry for the little email like dump I gave you this morning.
Cause it's just like the way he speaks.
And I just want to quote something from the beginning of that article where they're talking about the minimal additions that not.
using a lot of the money out there.
He says, uh, I reflected on that.
First of all, I just want to say that at the outset, for what it's worth base in baseball, accounting seems more like, seems more mysterious than Hollywood accounting.
First of all, that means nothing to anybody.
And also that would be something if I was saying that, if I was an outsider saying that's about there.
He is the owner of the team and he's acting like he doesn't know how baseball accounting works.
It's all a mystery.
And he has this real.
I used it when I used it when I emailed Paul a laissez faire Attitude towards this team of like we're just gonna have fun.
We're gonna, you know, it's cool when some games will lose some games We don't have to worry about rebuilding man.
He's like he's like a milk like a billionaire dad had who owns a team is like man This is cool man.
Just hit the ball with the bat.
It's it's so
Deserving to the people on your team.

That doesn't seem like that's going to play very well.
The taxpayers just gave the brewers $500 million to extend the lease through 2050 and to do repairs on the stadium that were debatably not the responsibility of taxpayers in the first place.
not spending any money after that level of shakedown is pretty offensive.
I know they're in a bit of an economic uncertain place right now with their TV deal, but they're certainly not poor.
They were ninth in attendance last year in the smallest market in baseball.

Allen Davis, Oh, Seminole County, $5.5 million in code violations.
Alan Davis, referred to as Seminole County's infamous junk man, has frustrated his neighbors with the junk in his yard for 25 years.
He is now celebrating the anniversary of his first county code violation by creating a new fiberglass sculpture to adorn his trash filled property.
It is a six foot tall representation of a human buttocks.
Yeah, this is a thing Davis has sculpted multiple has displayed multiple sculpted posteriors of various sizes in his yard over the last 25 years Along with stacks of scrap metal PVC pipes steel drums rusted appliances tarps hoses junked vehicles and towering weeds He occasionally sprinkles with fertilizer to make them grow bigger
This is what Davis describes as his political protest against Seminole County government, which he argues is protected by the First Amendment.
You can all kiss my blank, said Davis.
He spent decades touting, taunting county officials and they've tried to enforce local ordinances about how your yards look.
He said, I pile it up intentionally to aggravate them.
His neighbors not this has been going on for 25 years you guys.
I have a basic question when you're done though.

Neighbors are discouraged that so far County officials have not been able to do anything about this I thought for sure by now it would be cleaned up said one neighbor.
This is a junkyard He was originally fined $13,000 for non-compliance along with additional fines of $250
per day, he now owes as of mid-January $5,432,300,000.
It really
shows how toothless that municipality is, because you think they would have hauled them off or put them into... You can't put them in jail?
I mean, yeah, there's got to be some sort of thing that happens.
You don't just keep on...
Putting the fines out putting the fines up.
He's because I worked in city government.
He's that guy who comes into the office and everyone's like, oh, don't talk to him.
Just don't talk to him.
Just don't talk to him.
He's gonna he will chew your ear off for an hour.
But obviously the municipality doesn't really care that much or they would go after this guy.
But come on

Davis tells a local news crew.

He admits he put up without getting any county building permits.
The government doesn't permit me to do anything.
I do what I want on my property.
Seminole County officials have court orders authorizing the sheriff to seize the junk and other personal properties.
Every time they've done this, the county spent $9000 in taxpayer money to remove all the junk and then he starts all.
