Maino and the Mayor · Thu Jul 3, 2025

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And

here are your hosts, John Mino and Jim Schmidt.

What's the laughter for already?

Well, first of all, I will no longer during any breaks for anything like that.

Yeah.

I will no longer be sitting in this chair.

OK.

This camera makes us look really wide.

And

I've had

people say that.

Oh, I'm

sure.

They're happy with

you.

They

think you do that on purpose.

I saw you fiddling around here with the camera before we went on.

I know what you're doing.

You're doing that wide angle thing.

Right.

They only make it.

Yes.

I mean, I'm not going to lie.

Neither does the

camera.

Exactly.

Wow.

So remember when I said I put 11 pounds over a week.

Oh, yeah, did you lose that?

No, I'm still up.

Wow.

I went from 210 to 214 in a weekend that has stayed now.

But that class reunion is like what eight

days?

Not in Wednesday.

Oh, you

got

to

hit eight pounds in four days, five days.

Don't they have those like fat suits?

Yeah, whatever

else.

I'm gonna do it.

What'd you do in wrestling?

Didn't you do like?

Oh, yeah, X lax.

Biggies.

Rubber

suits.

Rubber

suits, right?

Yeah, I don't think we had the budget for the rubber suits.

Oh, and then you just take the last.

Sweep would just pour off.

Yeah, I know.

So I got to try something, man.

Oh, boy.

Yes.

How you doing, Todd?

I'm good.

What were you guys doing this morning early?

Oh my god.

OK, so go ahead.

I didn't do anything.

I just woke up really, fell asleep really early, woke up really early, did nothing but red type thing.

But so you go ahead and tell everybody, because you came, okay, you came in looking like you just got done working at the afternoon shift at the mill.

And one of the paper machines went down and you had to exchange parts and you're sweaty and you're all whatever.

Change shirts because it got dirty

because man.

So, okay.

So I didn't sleep as well as I wanted to.

So I'm leaving right after the show going to a resort, right?

And we're, the restaurants, the lines are too, you had to wait too long.

I don't like eating at restaurants at this time of year, because you have to wait.

So we're going to cook food, grill food.

The problem at the resort, there's, you have balconies, but you can't have grills on the balcony,

like

your

place,

right?

So you have to

use like,

all places are like that.

So you have to use like a community grill.

And I talked to Donna, she goes, you know, there's a lot of people that are grilling out and.

I don't want to wait, right?

And I can just see, I'll get behind the guy that is like really slow, doesn't know how to grill.

And so I thought, you know what, um, heck with it, I'm going to grill the food.

Back up just one second, though.

Are you saying you would use a grill immediately after some other guy used that grill?

I would

clean it, but he would that

surprised me, Todd.

What are you going to do?

I don't know.

I

well, I know one thing.

I know one

thing.

I know what.

You're not doing it.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That's come you know, girls and

I've never done that because remember

we mentioned that about parks, going to city parks and growing.

He says, I would never do that.

But I never,

I never have done that.

And I'm thinking, because, you know, we're going to be there for, you know, five days.

I got my son lost coming.

There's, you know, nine of us.

And I thought.

Wait a minute.

I don't think I like that.

It's kind of my idea.

And this isn't going to work.

And so anyway, the more I thought about it, the less I slept.

And I thought, you know what?

So what is it?

So what would you do?

I would start to read, you know, something that kind of loves you to sleep, something that's not, you know, whatever, spying tingler, maybe watching old movie, trying to find something like that.

Skrull social media.

I came up with two ideas.

One was to go and buy a grill, my own.

Okay, get the charcoal three in the morning.

Well, no, it's just I would

like right after the

show, okay?

Drive some place to Menards by a grill by the charcoal, but have my own so I don't have to deal with people which Which I'm shocked that you haven't done that before right?

Okay.

Go ahead.

That is a strategy, right?

The other thing I thought well anyway, but you would buy the charcoal instead of the gas, huh?

If I said I don't need a grill John,

so I

would buy it.

Okay.

Got it.

Get the charcoal use it and leave it for

got it.

Okay.

All right The other thing I thought you know what?

The chickens there, the brats are there.

I'm just gonna get up and cook this stuff right now.

At what time?

Probably 10 to three.

So

you're outside in your backyard?

At three

o'clock.

Grilling at three o'clock.

Turn the light on.

I was like, it might have been a little bright for my neighbor, but he didn't call.

So I, yeah, that's what I did.

Milton comes down.

He's like, what are you doing?

I'm like, just go to sleep.

So I did that.

So now we're gonna have to heat it up, but it's gonna work better.

It looks great.

barbecue sauce is on there.

So that's what I did.

I did that.

And I feel really, really good that I did that.

That was a good decision.

So just from three to one.

Well, I did different things.

I did even cook some vegetables on there too.

So yeah, I was done at, I don't know, four to five probably worked out great.

And then I made some pasta salads.

I was gonna do that anyway.

So you boiled some noodles and put shrimp in there.

You

know,

typical stuff.

I am not joking about this.

You should.

Think about being a, not a huge, but almost like a party caterer, where you would cook this stuff for the people, you would grill it, you're doing your own kitchen, your own utensils, your own pots and pans, whatever, and then get those big things, you know, it keeps, and bring it right to the place.

No?

I'd rather have people over, like, but this

pasta salad, you would like that pasta salad I made today, that was good.

I think you could make some serious money doing that.

Yeah, I'd rather.

Have runs over

now.

I don't know you just told me a story this morning about how much you love cash Anyway,

so that's yeah, that's

what I did and I feel really good

because I would be here this morning thinking like I had to go buy this grill or I'd be even more stressed out thinking I'm gonna get there and I'm gonna and everybody's gonna be around the grill and I'm gonna want to Cook it like you know for and I'm not gonna get on the grill till six.

You

know, I mean like that

and it's gonna stress me out so

It's done, I'm in control, and I happen to like being in control.

Can't picture you stressed out with the family on a vacation.

Needing to be in control?

No, neither one of those.

So it's done.

It's

done.

I feel really good.

Good.

Good, good, good.

And my mom's coming today too, and I don't

want to make her wait.

That's special.

You bet.

That's awesome.

That's great.

It's done.

And how about you, John?

What did you, same thing, or what?

I read.

I just picked

up a, at least, the good.

We neither of us slept though.

Why is it though?

And then I don't just literally the alarm went off it like I'm just starting to like dream a little bit and boom though, you know Why is is there something psychological about a person that?

Right before they have to get up all of a sudden They can sleep.

I know is that crazy?

It's like unbelievable, but anyway, you know what it is a beautiful

beautiful morning out there the day before what what more can you ask for than to be in state of Wisconsin the UP wherever wherever right now

and at this time like I was talking to some friends over last night the this I'm really in we talked about the spirit I don't know if you call it like it's more the Christmas spirit but yesterday our show was like I like you said that I think was one of the best shows we had in terms of the and we've had some great guests I'm not taking anything away from any of our guests but

Big Mouth, Woody, that was just-

I got so many comments from people, you can't believe

it.

I'll say it was even, say it was topped off, it was equal.

Last night, the Green Bay City Band concert played their patriotic set, and it was unbelievable.

Perfect night last night.

Beautiful night.

I actually went, you know what?

The first time I've gone out a little bit, went set by the water a little bit last night.

Yeah.

Since, yeah.

This is great, man.

And then, you know, we're talking about favorite holidays, and everybody probably has one.

I think this is it for me, because...

Me too.

Well, mine's Thanksgiving.

Mine is Thanksgiving.

I really love Thanksgiving.

That's a good one.

That's a good one.

But, yeah, I don't know.

That would be close.

But,

you know, it... I think it goes back to my college days, because the night before Thanksgiving was so much fun.

Yeah, that's a good

one.

And then we're, you know...

both like you too, Alter Boys.

It's kind of nice you don't have the math.

Oh

man, Easter was the worst.

Three times.

I hate the month.

I'm sorry.

I know one of your priest friends listens.

And I don't mean anything.

No, I beg in religion a little bit sometimes.

I don't mean to.

But it's just when I we go back to that era of I mean, I got when I learned how to be an altar boy, it was in Latin.

Yeah, so I mean we go back to the hardcore three hours and when you had your schedule to I mean we'd be scheduled to Do 530 mass all week long

in the incense

and then go to school all day and then every first Friday every every holiday or mean every?

Saints birthday, you know what I mean?

I mean it was it was such a big part of your life Yeah, it was very that's almost like the Amish sometimes the kids get a chance to leave.

It's like well, I'm just gonna step back a little bit

Very but ironically I might step into being Amish.

That's right.

I could see that but I even though um There was very meaningful to go to those masses.

It was that meant a lot to me but I this I still this this is fun because There's just no pressure.

Yeah, somebody else does the fireworks.

Somebody.

Yeah, you

know the cooking.

I love doing the cooking.

I just this is great I mean, I'm all into this holiday.

So

I do

it's a little extended to it's like

Three

days of

nothing.

Tell us your favorite text ourselves.

We got it.

We got it.

Good morning, everybody from Vicky.

Hi, Vicky.

She's awesome.

I figured Jim would be calmly folding his linens and brushing Milton when he can't sleep, right?

Yeah.

My feelings are hurt about your quote best show ever, Michael.

I'm sorry, Michael.

Sorry, buddy.

Michael's been

on our show many

times.

Well, not that, Michael.

We've done it at his places.

I know.

I don't think that what we did.

I take that back.

The two we did for Michael.

We're two of our all-time best shows.

The all-time locations.

Don't you agree, Todd?

Yeah, maybe.

Oh, yeah.

They were phenomenal.

I didn't mean to best show.

I meant the most emotional show.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's what I meant.

But you cried, remember, on your birthday or something when you got your dog picture?

That's right.

That was good.

That's right.

That's right.

That's right.

I mean, don't forget the anniversary show that was.

That was emotional.

That

was great.

The day the ping-pong balls drop,

that's

right.

Kids running around trying to get their sandwich.

From the helicopter?

Yeah.

All right, all right, all right.

Let's move on.

That would have been fun if we would have dropped actual sandwiches.

Oh, that would have been awesome.

Oh, that would have been really great.

You know what somebody texted me, Todd?

This was a few weeks back.

We're talking about that.

But they said, you know, you can probably get drones these days that could do something like that.

Probably.

Yeah.

Oh, God, did you have to?

I'm

sorry.

I'm just throwing it out

there.

know a couple drone people that okay

yeah

let me look into that all right

got this one that dedication gets you into the altar boy hall of fame John thank you Brian

all right see

yeah today is stay out of the Sunday huh okay yeah I got the eye I mean I'm telling you well why would they have that on the 3rd of July I know but it's it's

It's funny when you do step outside when you're not supposed to be in the Sun.

Yeah, like I'm not supposed to be in the Sun That's not as warm as you know, I haven't been like almost sequestered Wait for this thing to heal and it's like when you go out in that it's like whoa, but so you haven't done a sun for what three weeks Since the 27th of May

so they talk about you know, you're

I have with a band-aid on and

stuff.

Oh Talk about vitamin D. Do you feel less energy?

I mean the Sun is not

Bad.

The sun's good for you.

Sometimes,

right?

Yeah, I fight him in D. I haven't noticed anything, to be honest with you.

Plastic bag, free day.

That'll never take.

You know what?

You remember it used to be paper or plastic?

Nobody ever took the paper.

Everybody takes plastic because you use them in garbage bags.

Air conditioning appreciation day.

We didn't have air.

We only needed it three days a year growing up.

We didn't have air conditioning.

Did you?

Yeah, you'd never.

But fried clam day like that.

Do you?

I don't know if I would.

Oh, really?

Did you then you put bread?

I don't

think that's real healthy.

That's the only way I like clams.

You eat them where they're just like, oh, no, I'm thinking of oysters.

Never mind.

Never mind.

I'm thinking of oysters.

Olivia Munn 44 today.

She's why I was thinking of that was in that

show.

I

really like her.

Really like Tom Cruise is 62.

Aaron Tippin 66.

Montell William 68.

Jan Smithers.

I knew you would like that one.

My goodness gracious.

I'm not even joking about this.

She's like my all time cute girl who I would have wanted as a girlfriend.

Yeah.

In the day.

You know, it's not like the whole voluptuous yada, yada, yada, which is, you know, unreachable anyway.

But the Jan Smithers, the cute Jan Smithers, when she wears a little sweater over the tight t-shirt and the tight jeans, not to even pay attention to that.

But she, I still love Jan

Smithers.

She was Bailey on WKRP in Cincinnati.

Oh, all right.

I know

who

she is.

Yeah, okay,

I can see that.

Sure.

Yeah.

Cute personality.

Yeah, that'd be fun.

Betty Buckley is 77.

She was the mom and it's eight and enough.

It is eight

is enough.

That's right.

It wasn't

she John Travolta's girlfriend at

one time.

She may have been but she was also in Carrie.

She was the teacher.

She was

the gym teacher.

Gym teacher.

Good call.

Yeah.

Wow.

By the way, folks, later on, you're going to hear once again Woody Mankowski with a rendition of God was America.

America, America, the beautiful.

That's mind boggling.

Quick break back after

this.

Such a

habit

with me

Hey,

welcome back.

Great song.

Yes.

Great song.

I know it's

supposed to be a trucker Thursday, but it's going to be patriotic music.

Fantastic.

Fantastic.

Welcome.

97.9 FM WGPW 98.3 96.5 FM WSS and of course the Civic Media app.

63 in Green Bay, 66 in Abton, 65 in Oshkosh, high in the lower 80s.

What a perfect, perfect day to head into the holiday weekend.

This is phenomenal, really is.

I wish that, you know, I know when they messed around with it.

Okay.

I love it that the 4th of July is on a Friday.

Okay.

It should always be on a Friday, so you can have that long weekend.

So when it's like a Tuesday and you want to go to fireworks, if it's not, you know, if you have a party.

Everybody has to go.

I have to work tomorrow.

I have to get up early.

I think it should always be.

Don't you?

No.

Okay.

No way.

As a matter of fact, we changed that when I got elected.

I know you did.

Fourth is on the fourth.

That's why I didn't vote for

you that second time.

Well, I'll take that as a reason.

Yeah.

We were nothing to do with it.

Now, fourth's on the fourth.

Well, okay.

Yeah.

No, I that that's like.

not really honoring, honoring it.

No, I know.

People say that.

But then you don't really, you can't really have a real, true party celebration, whatever, because you said it's on a

Wednesday.

Right.

You

know, it's kind of tough.

Exactly.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I have to give the UK some credit because they do a lot of bank holidays over there.

There's at least

one.

But

what?

they call them bank holidays

bank

bank bank so basically it's kind of like our our president's day or our and they do them on Mondays or Fridays so people get three day we

perfect

thank you

well we do that with president's days yeah but nobody gets that

that's only if you're in government

Otherwise, you don't get it.

Yeah.

Well, we don't get enough to keep it.

I think we get plenty, but there's a compared to other countries.

Americans.

Oh, man, when you talk at any vacation, you know, when you talk from Germany down at a resort in Mexico, it's unbelievable.

But there's a couple of countries.

I want it's like Denmark or somebody where they're they're a four day week now.

It's like it's a four day work week.

What?

Those are economy, John.

Great.

It's phenomenal.

The grease grease.

Greasy, I don't know, but not everything's about the economy Think

about humans once in

a

while.

Yeah Yeah, the Danes are the healthiest people on the face of the earth.

They're the happiest people I'm just telling you that's what they are I Yeah,

okay,

that's when's the last time you saw an angry Dane John I wouldn't know if I saw yeah, oh, yeah, you don't want

Pea them off.

Trust me.

I've seen them.

I'm just saying I think it's a great thing.

I really do.

I do nothing like a great game.

I will say something else though that I know where you're going with that.

There is nothing like a day in the world or a dog.

Great.

Oh, great.

Great games.

But anyway, you know what I, you know what I. OK, let me just say something else that other countries do that everybody that has done it has said it's a really great thing.

some sort of service for a year like in Norway.

I'm all in on that.

They all

go through two years.

It's almost like being in the in the reserves.

You go through boot camp for like

two months or something

and you learn

all those Israel.

Then if they call you up.

Yeah.

Exactly.

We had a bunch of

young ladies

when we did the golf tournament on a night or at Thornberry a few years back and these girls I mean I shouldn't call them girls young 20s.

Okay.

They were selling and I actually bought one they were selling those things that a lot of golfers use where you put them in the little sticky pads, then they vibrate You know where they hit you in the Lord Lumber

ten tens unit.

Is that what it is?

Yeah,

yeah, yeah, yeah, I loaned it to Duke right and I never got it back by the way I'll get her on the line, but

Okay, I was talking.

Hey, what are you guys?

Well, you know, we're we gotta go back for service next week.

Oh, yeah, I thought service.

I thought some, you know, religious.

She don't know where every couple of years or something we do a month or two of blah, blah, blah.

I said, oh, and they were sorry.

They sort of like very, very attractive young girls.

Okay.

And it's like, oh, we love it.

We absolutely that's we look forward to it.

We love it.

We had that other kid play basketball at Green Bay from Norway.

He said, oh my God, it's the best thing ever.

So everybody that I know that has done it, has really enjoyed

it.

You talk about that friend of yours that was here, her daughter came on here, went in for two years, thought it was the best thing she did right after high school.

Well,

it's not her, but

she loves it.

She thought it was the

best decision she ever made.

You just learn so much about people's skills, management skills, even though it's not specifically the career.

I think it's great.

Other countries do it.

That is something I wouldn't mind adapting.

some of the case there's there's things we can learn from other countries i think we do it better i think overall we do it better than anybody else

okay but let me do okay i'm not i'm not gonna argue with you about economy and things like that i'm not i'd be like you arguing about quarterbacks from the 60s okay okay so i'm giving you that fair but what i'm saying is

Okay, with the four-day workweek, is your economy?

Well, how about this?

They just hire more people then, so your economy is real good because you need more people to fill all those other days.

I'm not.

Thank you, Ty.

And

more time for leisure that you can actually go

do

something.

Absolutely.

I don't know.

When did I say I'm not opposed to the four-day workweek of 10 hours a

day?

Well, you said, you said, how's your

economy?

So that, yeah.

Yeah, if it's eight hours.

You ripped the date.

Yeah, I don't know the day's economy.

I know

I

do the problem is though, too We have a lot of people working five days a week, but they're working 50 hours They're working 10 hours

those days.

So it's

like, yeah, come on, right,

right?

It's almost like that.

I just read some of that stuff I know a lot of it's BS.

We just read some but it's like, you know, think about this

You work, you know, oh, yeah, how many hours a day for four hours off?

You work how many hours for and another thing, you know what they're talking about and I this hit me because I'm starting to get up there a little bit age wise.

I'll

be with you.

Yeah, I'm gonna be honest with I'm just laid out there.

I'm gonna be honest and

I know I don't look at it.

But anyway, um, at least you don't look like the lunch lady.

Come on.

Stop it.

I can say that.

I can

say that.

Turn his mic up.

Turn his mic up.

Turn his mic up.

No, no, no.

John, you're the one who showed me.

Turn his mic

up.

No, Todd, turn his mic up.

And

he showed me the planning committee.

And it was a picture of what, nine people?

Maybe it's more than that, 12 people.

And I'm like, John, what's the lunch lady doing in that picture?

One

person aged a little bit.

No, no, they're all.

No, they did.

It looked like that.

And then

I said, well,

was this guy your teacher?

And it wasn't just they looked old.

Their hairstyle was

old.

Quick

break back after this,

man.

Wow.

At least you look young.

Wow.

I did some disco, Mew.

I did some disco dancing here yesterday, Lisa.

A lot of people said, oh my God, that was

so hot.

Painful.

They said it was

hot.

Hey, Lisa.

Hi, Lisa.

Yes.

Hello.

How are you?

Big

plans.

We're good.

We are excited about the fourth.

You

have

plans.

We are the fun weekend coming up.

Yep.

Four day work week.

I actually have a four day weekend.

I'm going to be off Friday and Monday.

And you

know what I'm going to do?

It's

too

long.

I'm going to sleep.

Well.

If you get up at three o'clock, you go and grill like Jim does.

Sleep's overrated.

I still can't believe you're outside with the lights on, grilling at three in the morning.

You know your neighbors were hearing

that.

Nah, there's a little space

there.

I don't.

Yeah, well, I had to get that.

Whatever.

Hi, Lisa Hale.

If they weren't hearing the grilling, they were definitely smelling it.

Could

you imagine

waking up first thing in the morning and smelling burgers and everything

grilling?

Absolutely.

Chicken.

Yes, that's what happened.

It did smell good, I will say that.

How's the weather in beautiful downtown?

Oh, gosh, right now.

absolutely gorgeous.

I mean, it is sincerely gorgeous over here.

It is awesome.

The next four days, although I did see that might might rain Saturday tomorrow night.

Every forecast has a little bit of rain in it in every single one.

But anyway, what do you got going on, Lisa?

What's going on with your new Wisco?

Well, new Wisco weekend this weekend is really a great one.

We've got a kind of a

combined theme happening here.

We're talking a lot about the 4th of July because it is the 4th of July weekend.

And so we've got stories on PTSD and fireworks and fireworks safety and stuff like that.

But we also are our code theme is rock and roll because Monday, June 7th is National Rock and Roll Day.

I did not know that.

Yes, Terry Barr has a great feature story on that that we'll start the issue off with and we've got lots of little tidbits all the way through it.

Our musical guest is the Bodines.

Do you remember

the Bodines?

Absolutely.

I absolutely love

the entire 90s were the Bodines.

Absolutely.

I'm telling you, I'm telling you.

So yeah, we feature them and then our cover story.

this week is a little bit off topic, but it's something that's very important.

And it's an interview that our Melissa K did with Feeding America on just how those federal cuts are going to affect food insecurity here in Wisconsin.

So that's a very good interview with Melissa K as our cover story.

Okay, I've asked this before and I don't mean to be uncomfortable here, but how come you never asked me to do a story for New Whisker Weekend?

You were a cover story a couple of weeks ago.

You know that but

I was wasn't he also the centerfold that way?

Yeah, all right,

and

then we did

and

Did

writings went way right?

That's we didn't air either one.

No, I want to be a reporter I would be the person doing the the questioning type thing

You can do that if you if you want to put together an interview.

Yeah

needs to be 13 and a half seconds

13 and a half minutes is the length of the interview.

That's all you have for an interview or you can create a story for me.

That's about say three minutes, a three minute package.

Anytime you just create something and get it to me.

You got to do me one favor first though, because I'm not going to be the guy to try to do it.

What's that?

Make sure Todd will stick around long enough to

ride the

board.

You go have to talk to Todd about that.

That's the hard part.

I

cannot tell him to do

anything.

Join our club.

I think Lisa is the

only one who realizes in this whole mess of Northeast Wisconsin that I am the boss.

Thank

you,

Lisa.

Thank

you.

I was thinking of both of you guys the other day where they're doing the heat index thing and Jackson, Mississippi was like 107 because there's

like a hundred and then the humidity.

I thought that has to be just brutally miserable.

Jackson, Mississippi at that hot at that heat.

Jackson, Mississippi itself is brutally

when we were working at Y 101.

Lisa, I was my first gig down in the south, right?

I'd been in Toledo, Ohio and I moved down there and met Lisa, which is a whole.

We could do a whole show on Lisa's

show on

that.

But I got out of the car and I left my chapstick in the front.

Okay.

And I got in and I go, Oh, I better go get that.

Got out there.

The whole thing had melted

all

over everything.

Yeah.

Like, and I was literally in the building 30 seconds.

Oh, yeah.

In

Tucson, actually in Tucson and in Phoenix, um, I didn't have, you know, a lot of those people that, uh, you could buy these things, reflective things to

put in your windshield

so they didn't and

If you didn't, I mean, there were times I would have to have like paper towels or something holding the steering wheel

that

plastic would get so hot.

It was mind boggling.

And then the dashboard would like crack.

Oh, yeah, all the time.

That would happen.

I mean, we talk about crazy things, but that heat is inside of it.

And that's where they're saying, I hate to say this, but, you know, with people either tragically kids or animals or something.

No idea how hot a car can get with those windows.

Oh,

yeah.

Even if it's say 75 degrees out.

And that's, you know, a nice temperature when it's 75, I'm happy.

It will be 90 degrees in your car or hotter.

So that's something that people really need to remember just because the outside temperature is lovely.

The inside temperature of a car is brutal.

I also noticed Lisa living down there that everybody had just a little bit of twang to their smell all the time.

Well, yeah, because you sweat all

the time.

So it's not, you know, up here, people can smell fresh.

Maybe in a

hot day, you get a little bit of that with no everybody down there had

a

little bit of something.

Jim's got working today.

Well, he

smells like he's grill after

I grilled first.

I did not think yeah, whatever.

Maybe a little bit.

It's

OK.

It's not a bad smell.

Just

making me hungry.

It is.

It was a girl.

Smell coming out of there.

Milton didn't want to leave

today.

Oh, yeah.

What are you doing this weekend for the holiday, Lisa?

Besides, yeah.

But no, Friday, Friday, I'm going to go.

Here in Oshkosh, they've got at Menominee Park.

They're doing the fireworks celebration and

on the fourth.

Yep.

On the fourth.

Yes.

If it rains, it'll move to

Saturday.

Hey, Jim, just give me those.

I like

the fourth.

Damn

it.

But I'm going because of the food trucks.

Yeah.

Seriously, we're going to we're going to have about 20 food trucks

in Oshkosh

Ground Menominee Park.

on friday so i'm going to go and i'm going to sample me some yummy food

nice

you can tell i mean look at me

i

enjoy food well

you know what i'll do correct me if i'm wrong but it seems like

I mean, it's almost like showing up

and Jim, you kind of talked about this, like having an ethnic area where you can try a little bit of this track.

I mean, there's Indian food trucks.

There's Thai food trucks.

There's, you know,

Haitian food trucks.

Right.

Yeah.

And you

can still get the old Bratton burger if

you want to.

We had some.

politics with food truck rallies.

Maybe because we have more municipalities.

We just, I just remember struggling with the county to do, those are great.

Is the Tarleton trying to do that a little bit?

He is.

Okay.

He is, but there was some municipal things going on.

And it's kind of like, while in music, they just kind of got ahead of us.

We're all

trying to catch up.

Oshkosh has done some things and we're trying to catch up.

But yet we're the largest community, and I

don't know if

it's

more

political.

But food truck rallies, I mean, look at what Nashville does, my guy.

Ages get thousands

of people.

But I mean, you can just bounce from one to one.

And God bless the brick and mortars and how hard it is to struggle with.

Sure.

Nothing against them whatsoever.

But for festival type things like that, to be able to bounce from one to one and where you don't have to sit and wait or whatever.

And some people have both.

Yeah, exactly.

That sounds like fun.

Is it one theme or is it just...

Oh, no, it's not one theme.

There are so many different.

I mean, there's there's the agro food truck.

There's Caribbean taste.

There's busted spuds.

There's I believe the Indian food trucks going to be out there.

Polora Cafe is going to be out there.

I mean, so many food trucks.

Okay, we were talking about this yesterday, though.

So for burgers, Jim and I both agreed that

hamburgers are you got to have cheese and it's got to be melted on there and you don't need a whole bunch of other things and I that's the only thing he and I agree on what about yourself how do you like your burgers

okay when it comes to a hamburger I like it medium rare

And I do like lettuce, tomato, and onion.

If it does not have onion, it is not a good hamburger to me.

I agree with you on that.

I'll take the.

I like onion on mine.

I do too.

Fried or raw.

Raw.

Raw.

Raw.

Definitely raw.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And I can take or leave cheese.

Oh, really?

Wow.

OK.

Sorry,

Lisa,

nice to know you.

Yeah, I went to a, I just told these guys yesterday that I went to it, it was kind of a buffet where you kind of get your hamburger or the bun and you go down and they didn't have cheese and I just kind of set it aside.

I mean, cheese is great.

It's great.

It

really is.

But if it's if it's an American cheese slice, it's like, OK, fine.

But I mean,

if it's because I I've sent back hamburgers at fast food places because because they take that.

You know where it was bad at

the

burger king in is it Mischekot?

You know that one if the gas station is attached to the gas station or Maribel, one of those twice that happened to me.

I get my cheeseburger.

And I go out to the car.

I want to see the

manager.

And the cheese is cold.

Yeah.

And

when you think of a Burger King attached to a gas station, you think that they would have better cheese choices than a cold slice of cheese, right?

Yeah.

Well,

I drive a little

further and find a better place.

You want to know the greatest combination when I lived in Flint, Michigan, the greatest combination of a place to go to there was a it was a laundry mat connected with a baby ribs joint.

And those baby you put your clothes in the thing and you go over and you have your baby ribs.

Oh, I love a good baby rib.

I mean, those combinations are, you know, you need to do

that.

Nancy, just text it in, by the

way.

Lisa Hale I am here for you.

I love love love cheese, but I prefer my hamburger without it

Thanks Nancy

Nancy.

It's just I love cheese, but it doesn't All it does is add a little bit of um

Greatness.

Greatness.

Right.

Right.

Richness.

Oh.

Okay, at

least I can taste it.

So today at 915, I'm going to be sitting at a great little breakfast place here called Delilah's.

And I'm going to have the same thing I've ordered ever since the first time I had it.

It's not the all the all pork thing.

My stomach got a little something from that all pork.

It was it was it was an all pork.

It was

I thought it was all pork.

Now it's like, now it's all protein, but it was just

fried pork.

It was, it was, I, you didn't like it, but

it

was.

Yeah.

So what are

you

going to get?

Pimento cheese omelet.

Yeah.

Pimento cheese.

I'd never tasted it before that.

Yeah, that's good.

Oh, have you ever had that?

Cause that's a

southern.

I've tasted Pimento cheese before.

No.

I've had everything on that

menu.

I lived in the South and Pimento cheese sandwiches are a staple in the

South.

Well, I know at the Masters, that's the big thing.

At Augusta, Georgia, Pimento cheese.

That's Georgia.

I don't think you can even buy it around here.

Sure you

can.

Pimento's cheese

bread stuff.

Julian Dunn bought some up in like, Dork County, but I don't know if they make it around here.

Kraft

actually makes them in little jars.

Do they

really?

Yeah, they do.

Yep.

What's a good cheese shop around here?

Is there one?

There's so many.

I mean, there's a good one.

There's simons and no and renards, I guess.

But

even at festival, they have a good cheese selection.

But yeah, you can't fight where like all the cheeses are.

You got to go find they have their own little.

Higher specialty.

Yeah, that's

what I'm

looking

for.

You know what I was just pointing out?

I went to the next time on a new diet.

OK, right?

That's not

working because you're

up

14 pounds.

But I'm up four pounds, Todd.

OK, 11 plus three.

OK, I'm on.

Listen to me.

Listen to me.

It's so healthy.

It's mind boggling.

Okay.

I got frozen strawberries, fresh frozen strawberries mixed with protein.

That doesn't make sense.

Fresh frozen.

Um, probably mixed with protein powder and tang and it's in a little bit of yogurt, Greek yogurt, unflavored.

It's phenomenal.

It's so healthy for you.

But my sandwiches, get this Lisa.

You love this.

It's, it's sliced, colorabi.

Okay.

That is good.

Yes.

Slice, colorabi with sliced onions.

Okay.

A piece of cheese.

light male in a lettuce wrap.

That's not bad.

All right, guys.

New Wiska weekend coming up this weekend, Saturday at 8 Sunday at 11 on WGV

double.

Have fun this weekend.

Have

a great, great week to celebrate.

You bet.

Lots to celebrate.

We guys are a great break back.

Hey,

welcome back!

Minor of the Mayor here, and a beautiful, beautiful July 3rd.

Got some texts here.

Another word for the bingo carton.

Mind boggling.

Yeah,

you like the word catch?

Yeah.

I got another one here, John.

That Burger King in Maribel is now a family restaurant and is very good food.

Like I was saying,

imagine

you screw up a Burger King.

And they did.

By the way, what comes to mind when you say picnic hamburgers, old fashioned Fireman's Park picnic burgers, Scotty.

You're right.

Old.

So is that the old Fireman's Park type of burger?

Oh, yeah.

It's like almost a

smash burger.

Yeah.

Exactly.

Because smash burgers Mark Houston imply.

Well, sports matters.

How you doing, buddy?

Good.

How

are you guys?

We're good.

Excellent.

Excited off tomorrow

weekend.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I don't think that's

very funny what you brought in to show me.

Well, thank you.

Thank you to Charlie.

I love it.

I love it.

All right.

All right.

No, I was just saying, OK, we're going to talk about high school sports, physicals, right?

In our day, that's all you did was turn your head and coughed.

Yep.

I don't know anybody that ever flunked their high school physical.

Didn't matter.

That's all the doctors just next cough next cough.

cough, cough.

But I did have a serious sports injury that I told you about.

Yep.

And they had to use a hyperthermic hyperdermic needle like the size when they inject horses with steroids or whatever they do.

Okay.

That's what they used on me.

So I'm just saying that ended your career.

I stymied it didn't end but you know, it was a roadblock.

It was over before it began.

Right.

Who knows what I could have been, right?

I could have been a Heisman candidate.

You could have been a contender.

You could have been drafting the NFL draft.

Not even a question about that.

There's a lot of five, eight and a half

quarterbacks

up.

How

you doing,

Mark?

Great.

Great.

Are you

a big fourth of July like you camped you?

is it a thing for your family?

You had three of you, right?

Yeah, yeah.

There's three of us.

I heard you guys talking.

Yeah, we talked about going to, I'll say it, I think it's the dream beach of all of Wisconsin.

To the Nechotos.

Nechotos.

Absolutely.

I think it's one of them.

Get there early, get in the morning place.

Not around Green Bay or Dorkoni.

I'm just telling you that I have friends who told me about this beach.

Thank you, Terry and Sue Beck.

Many, oh.

You know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know

Have a great day on the beach.

They do that.

You guys just talk about food trucks.

They got food trucks.

They got concessions They got bathrooms very reasonably priced.

Yeah,

everything,

you know, and there's music on some nights I

just and I again just put in a plug for another place that's one of my favorite places is Port Sandy Bay just down the road from there phenomenal pizza phenomenal fish

and it's that pizza's been the same since we've been in high school.

Yeah, they're consistent

That is great great pizza and you can get it you can eat there Which is great great service, but it's fun to take it to go to

and I'm not calling you guys old But if that's when that's how long it's gone it must say something about what it is absolutely I mean if they've held that tradition.

Yeah, man Why not go to it?

You know, I think so many times we go to the we have to so goes back to your question Jim It just break it out this weekend if you guys are listening on this radio Run down there for a day.

Yeah, I mean you got three days now.

That's what my wife just said this morning.

Oh

Maybe some rain, but every day is probably rain every

day.

Yeah.

Yeah,

but I'll tell you what two rivers has a couple of other places Waverly Beach Waverly's good.

Waverly's great pizza And then a place I've never gone and I can't believe I have it because you know why because we always eat and then you're so full You know, but that ice cream parlor in that building.

That's like 150 years

old at the museum.

Yeah, that's a great ice cream.

If their fireworks are good for a little 12,000.

Yeah municipality Yeah, two of us are fun back and I've only spent

that's that's just a great little community and I love it.

I mean, that's

and the greatest place for fireworks.

You ever find you sit in a baseball stadium that's built in like again, 1890 or something where the bleachers are built into the hill.

Yep.

I just had a friend from my home.

So I'm home.

My hometown is Janesville, Southern Wisconsin and a friend of mine.

I don't even know why he was up here a couple weeks ago and they pulled in at like 930 at night into two rivers and his family's big baseball fans and they're like.

What is going on here at 9 30 on a Friday night?

You know and they were he had a post

okay?

I'm gonna say one thing though within a three-hour Drive of right at three and a half hour drive of where we are right here right now there is one beach that I think is Literally does rival any of the beaches in the United States

and

that's it.

No, it's a train

By municing on Lake Superior.

Oh when we had Dom up there a couple of years like I can't believe this This is like unbelievable and how clear the water is now It's like superior so it's but you know he could handle it You can't believe how beautiful how big this beach is up by municing, Michigan Anybody has anybody been up there to a train?

Unbelievable beach.

I haven't heard of that one.

You

that would be a great road trip for

you guys But it you know again, it's like I said I think there's so many people who have lived in Green Bay or Oshkosh Appleton

And haven't made that our drive right in the shoulder.

So it's just I love the but you know what?

I think two rivers people like don't tell anybody It's

you know, and it's amazing.

I mean we I still remember we had friends It was back when it was like 98 one year.

We're all sitting here on July 3rd going What are we all gonna do?

And it's like a whole bunch just went over there and it was just you know three four hours Yeah, you know grab grab even if you want to grab a sub and eat I mean it just you do have to get there early.

Yeah, otherwise you'll be walking

But that's, you don't have to go on the 4th of July, but you just go during the summer and it's pretty quiet during the summer.

I mean, if you go on a Tuesday.

I'll tell you what

else, it's great though, in the fall when they have the big storms.

Wow, is that a great place to sit and watch those storms roll in?

I bet.

I mean, they come in there like you can't believe.

I think they used to do a kite festival there.

They did.

They did.

That was a lot of fun.

Yeah, that was the great thing.

They were almost known for that for a while.

Yeah, they were.

That was a big deal.

The other thing that I think, you know,

put on your list for a family thing with the three of you guys.

A lot of families is that Man Talk to Luddington.

That's a fun thing.

Oh, the Badger?

Yeah, the Badger.

Yeah, we've talked about it.

Okay,

that's the thing that's fun to just go by where they dock

and watch it.

That's fun to watch it.

But that is just a really cool thing.

And then, you know, being Mr. Dad, we did that when we were kids and we had a million of us.

But then my dad always said when you can't see land and you throw a penny over and make a wish.

So we got pennies in there.

We're gonna set

a

quick break.

Mark Houston, amplify by Fountain Health Sports Medicine.

Back after this.

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And

here are your hosts, John Mino and Jim Schmidt.

Hey, thank you very much.

Welcome back.

Just a beautiful morning out there.

63 in Green Bay, 66 in Alpton, 65 in Oshkosh, mostly sunny high in the lower 80s today.

I think we sent quite a few people going into two rivers

this weekend.

It's awesome.

I

mean, and why not?

It's cool.

It's a beautiful beach.

Get there early.

Yeah.

Check out it in two or get there later

and

We're there one day and this guy gets out with these little kids.

And I thought, what's wrong with this guy?

He digs this huge hole, then takes 20, 30, I don't know how many buckets of water from the lake and pours it in.

So it's like he made a beach swimming pool for the

kids.

I didn't quite get that.

Yeah.

Have you ever seen that before?

That's

a lot of work.

I know, right?

Yeah, that's.

I don't

know.

Can't you just keep them?

Can't they play in the beach and

put an eye on them?

I will also say that we used to do, I think we've probably done it five, six times.

We've rented an RV and the first RV trip we did was the campsite just north of Nishota Beach.

Is it Point Beach?

That's where it's Port Sandy Beach.

So we went there and

It was their beach was gone.

The water levels went up and on destroyed their dock.

Yeah, so we say let's go down back in the shoulder.

So we have an RV.

Oh, we parked it right along the road.

As I said, it's a

real narrow road.

They're going but parked got a got a got a spot and it was the best where you could go in the water, sand, come back.

Shower that's cool and head home.

That's bad.

Yeah, I was like man.

That was nice

You know, it's kind of cool because I I'm hoping to do a van life for a couple of years.

Okay, and Gas

station bathrooms and no, no,

no, no, no, no, here's

what

I'm

saying.

Okay, we're no driver on the toilet in the back one producer laughing one

host may I

finish may I finish

So you work your whole life to drive around.

Okay.

Well, okay.

John finished.

Yeah.

But I don't have confidence in myself that I wouldn't knock stuff over driving a big RV and I go back up good and I'll go corners.

Okay.

So

that's good.

I'm glad to hear that.

What I'm saying is they're making small ones now with all the amenities of the big ones.

Have you seen some of those small RVs now?

Half the size of a big RV?

If you get, if you got money, I think you can get what you want.

Are they expensive?

What

are they?

Okay.

But that's a tiny home, right?

No, yeah, but no, no, no, but you

can't stand

up and they got hydraulics in these things where The bedroom is up above now and everything that's awesome Or I'd like to get one of those things one of those vans we can drive and you can you can let you pitch a tent on top of the van

That's what I was thinking and you know, I don't

Right now, Todd's rolling his eyes.

This is what would

happen.

What's going to happen to that guy?

Remember that guy I told you about?

He slept on top, and then he came down to go to the bathroom.

What happened to him?

I

don't know.

What guy?

I told you that guy.

No, I

don't.

You never told me the guy.

Yeah, but this is what happened.

I'm trying to remember that.

You don't remember that?

No.

The tent would go up for John.

John would say, I'm going to go down the next destination.

He'd forget to bring that tent down.

That's possible.

But you know what my dream is?

I told you that.

Spent one year going from one college football game to the next.

just just all the way through

like start

off at University of Michigan, maybe then I really want to go to like West Point and then go down to go to like Alabama,

LSU, SC, SC, SC.

That's my

dream to spend

one, six months

just

traveling

from

high school from college football to college football.

That would be fun.

Yeah, I

can

see you doing that.

Yeah, your your Saturdays.

Well, your Sundays are going to be tough.

You'll be recovering on your son.

I'll just recover.

Yeah,

but but

even I'd like you know what I'd like to do I'd like to go to like the Todd Talks with high school football in Georgia They get

like a thousand people.

Correct.

I'd like to throw the Friday nights I'd love to go to a high school game

and some of those said if you could tie those things together on what you do on a Monday Tuesday and Yeah, you could really have a you could I think you can have an interest

right, you know You could probably be in subtle.

Okay.

Let's say Georgia Okay, I mean they said that's quite the experience at the University of Georgia Friday night at one of these unbelievable high school football places

Saturday University of Georgia Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons against somebody.

I'm with Vinnie.

What's Vinnie saying?

Johnny, just buy the damn plane tickets.

Sparky says, hi, I'm John Mino.

I live in a van down by the river, but it's a very cool van with a raised thing.

You know, I think that that

could be fun.

Johnny and hydraulics don't go together for me.

There'd be some sort of bad injury, John, but there's manuals.

Yeah.

Well, you know,

you'd

see the country and yeah, that

we did say we did say though John even said it himself What oh, you know driving larger vehicle?

No, no, that'd be changing lanes back enough.

No

freeway.

Yeah, the ones we would rented our 25 31 Well, we're a little big Johnny let's

go.

We'll take my 38

order.

Yeah, Torrey is he knows what he's doing.

You know what I thought about that because I actually sold when I was in real estate

uh, these people in in Manitowoc moved over from Minnesota here.

Okay.

And, um, they, I was waiting for them and they, they said, okay, we're, we got the big RV.

We're, we're in wherever we'll be there by such, such.

Come there and they, they pull in and stuff.

It's like, pardon.

I said, how did it go?

The guy goes, good.

The guy said, I gotta run to the men's room.

She goes, oh my god, we knocked over three mailboxes and a roadside.

But a

small little.

That would be fun.

Those are, those are hard to drive.

16 feet down.

Yeah.

12 feet.

That'd be nice.

Todd, the company should buy me one.

That

would be, that could be fun.

I

could see you

doing that.

Put that in the budget for 2026.

Yes.

But I think, is it, you can have the bathroom in there.

Yes.

See, you gotta clean that out though.

Well, they got those new ones though, where they're all organic.

All organic.

What does that mean?

I don't

even know what that means.

Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching.

Okay.

Okay.

I'll be honest with you.

To pee.

I just pull over.

Yeah.

I've thought everybody's done that where you pretend like you're getting some out of the side of the car.

This is just getting

to some

guy did that.

He got eaten by a line.

Where?

He did.

He got he was up on top sleeping and he went

to

that.

I'm not going to do a safari.

Well, just don't get eaten by a line.

OK.

Yeah.

OK.

Well, when I go to Tams in the end, Jim, I'll sleep inside.

You could

get mugged.

You could get mugged.

I'm very dangerous.

I'm not going to get

mugged.

You're in a hotel.

You're not going to get mugged.

OK, trust me.

I would have my 38 with me.

Yeah, you would, though.

I

would.

Not that I want to interrupt too much, but you know the story John was talking about earlier, how the maintenance guy from the building went in his apartment and said, still thinking about getting a cleaning woman?

Can you imagine what his camper would be like?

Right.

There you go.

We have to call social service.

Now we need two vans though because we have one van that's going down the road with John.

Second van is going to follow John.

This could be like Big Ten

TV.

It would be

a whole new me.

I don't know that.

There's something about this that could work for you.

I know

because it's gonna check some pretty good box absolutely the games and

I bet you could find places to sleep in all those college towns You know college weekend type thing,

you know

parking

lots Walmart.

That's

what I mean.

Yeah Yeah, I could see you doing that me to writing the story.

Yeah, posting it doing podcasts from the road

Absolutely doing a blog the whole thing.

There'll probably be some incidents in butte modern channel.

Yeah

John how come you keep going back to you like Charles Croll?

Why do you keep going back to this place?

We're both talking about how Charles Croll was like we just loved his stories and he inspired me I mean I'm not even joking about this Charles Croll was part of my inspiration about doing really like normal people you know small town this guy who normally the networks would never do but you know this guy who's done whatever for 72 years in the back of his shop hand forging

Donkey shoes or you know something like that, okay?

My favorite place is a little cabin in the picturesque Rocky Mountains of Montana with a small stream cascading and I listen to the sound of the water

Fresh water that you can drink ready from the stream cascading over the rocks.

You go there all the time.

It's like, OK, OK, you've been there, but you keep going there.

It's like, the hell's up there?

Turns out he

had a little something, something on the side up there at the cabin.

Producer never caught on.

So he died.

She came out of the woodwork.

It's like, you know, half that is mine.

Yeah.

Royalties.

Charles got around.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That would be fun for you to do because you're not big flyer and you don't that's.

Yes.

That's something to think about.

You should like

I am.

It's not going to be that

expensive to do that either.

I used to OK.

I used to want to do something that's considered a little not cool anymore.

Converting a school bus.

That used to be the big thing.

You can drive that.

Convert.

No, I know.

But converting school buses were the big thing.

Remember that.

Yeah.

People would put in bunks and everything like that.

I think some people still do it.

They do.

Yeah.

A lot of social media people do the bus.

They rehab the whole thing.

They sell their house.

They live in the bus.

I think it I think that's kind of came out of code.

I can travel.

I can do things virtually.

So guess what?

Let's go.

Did you go to school in a long bus or a short bus?

Okay, I got a thing here, Todd.

Good morning.

On behalf of the power tool horns and Woody, thank you for having us on yesterday.

We had a great time.

A big thanks to Todd for all of his work to love you guys.

Fluff.

That's awesome.

Later this morning, we will feature the music that they brought to us yesterday

morning right here.

So I listen to I share they played at my wedding.

So I played it yesterday at the house.

So it's a yeah, I can't imagine.

I played it later on, but I heard it live.

So I can't imagine what it was.

It was unbelievable.

It was, I mean, Jim and I were both like, we're covered in goosebumps.

Yeah.

And you know, we've been doing this for two years.

You don't want to say it best because other people are like, oh, my show was good, too.

But it was, you got to say it was one of the best shows we ever had.

It was just so emotional and so like, and we were really surprised.

Like, we didn't know it was coming.

I mean, John Kramer hooked that up for us.

And we're both like.

We thought they were going to show you what Jim said though.

Oh my God.

I went out

to the lobby and there were four of them sitting there and I'm like, whoa, this, I don't know.

I guess I read that they were coming in, but I don't know.

Anyway, I went out there and I'm like, oh, whoa, this looks like a $3,000 expense.

And he said, ah, that was 20 years ago.

Cost a little bit more.

We were standing right there watching Woody sing.

And we were just literally.

And we've got some we've had some phenomenal talents come through musically,

but this was a different level lives in Hollywood just traveled just did a tour from the west coast of the east

coast.

I think here's the thing about it.

If you would play the original version of that.

And if you pick two or two of them.

I'll take what?

But if you would have said, hey, pick which one it is, I don't know if you would have known.

I've seen Ray Charles.

And he's been angry with me.

Because when you said that, it was going to be Ray Charles in that audition, I was just like, oh, yeah, this is going to be pretty good.

You got

a text here.

Michael says, I'm going to Alabama versus Wisconsin at Alabama.

Want to join?

Wow.

Yes.

And Lisa says, I have ticket connections to Georgia.

No, and LSU.

LSU, I'm sorry.

Oh, LSU.

Yeah.

Oh, that was Mike.

OK.

Have you ever been to a big-time college game like outside of Wisconsin type thing

Like a night game

because I would almost only

want to go to night games.

I was at you know, I was at a Wisconsin Michigan game.

Oh Pretty good.

It was at

Wisconsin or at Michigan

at Michigan.

Yeah, I think they're up 18 points at half Guess who won?

Oh, I had to leave you

know one thing about Michigan Stadium though.

It's it's not

You don't you think it's a hundred and eight

or seven?

That

sounds bigger than NFL.

But it doesn't feel

that big.

No,

it's weird because you can drive.

You think you're like the first time I went there.

This is no lie.

I missed it.

I drove past it.

Well, you know, it's sunk in the ground, sunk in the ground or built up on the sides or I don't know.

I don't know the best way to say it.

But you're looking at your expect.

You're waiting to see this.

Yeah.

Unbelievable big

thing.

Yeah.

Interesting.

Yeah.

So it's beautiful.

But I have I will say.

I'm a big 10 fan, but I would have loved to have gone to like an LSU, Georgia game, LSU, Alabama game, Saturday night, I think.

I've got

Notre Dame games.

Yeah, I went to a Notre Dame game.

Everybody should do that one time.

Yep, that's another place.

And

those guys who own the Northland, they're huge, huge Penn State guys.

Well,

that's quite the place, too.

Well, that's quite the

place.

Take care of you on that.

But you know what?

The pageantry of college football is so much better than the NFL.

It's incredible.

And they got the ultimate tailgate party there.

They do those.

What are the big steaks thing?

Yeah, they do the Tomahawk steaks.

I think

that's banned these days.

No, the Tomahawk steaks.

They do the Tomahawk steaks.

What

are the steaks?

I'll

show

you the Tomahawk for a

steak.

What's

going

on

here?

I don't

know.

Help

me.

Keep up.

I've seen enough to know that we've got it good.

Where the stars and stripes and eagle

fly.

Hey, welcome back.

Mine on the Mirror in a beautiful July 3rd.

It doesn't get much better than today.

Beautiful day out there.

Nice forecast.

We're with Mark Hewson.

Amplify by Bell and Health Sports Medicine.

Vinny says, if Mino goes on this trip, one travel van.

one has Matt Van.

Thank you very much.

Michael says it's been to Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, LSU Clemson, my amy, uh, and Georgia Florida game and Jacksonville.

How much cooler of a life does Michael have than us?

Michael

should live in the, in the southeast.

I'm disappointed someone would yield you.

What's that?

Okay.

My brother did the, uh, um, baseball.

Oh, yeah,

well,

I know some people do that.

That's kind of easy to do.

Yeah, because they're kind of close.

Yeah.

They're like

Detroit Pittsburgh.

Yeah.

Oh,

yeah.

Okay, so you're doing all this stuff for your family.

You got a phenomenal weekend coming up.

Did all the cooking at three o'clock this morning.

By the way, what do you think of

that, Mark?

He's got that three o'clock

morning.

The neighbors loved that one.

He agreed, though, that that was he thought it out.

Yeah.

But

And then you did something yesterday to take care of dogs.

No, no, no, I'm just but I mean, you've you've been perfect.

It's like, wow, I'm what a shining example.

A lot of dads do that.

That's Mr.

Dads who you leave at home.

Look, he's happy.

I talked to him about it.

I said, look, Milton's staying home, but his cousin, my daughter's dog is there and.

So all

these dogs are re frolicking and your dogs will be cooped up in the house.

No, no, his the babysitter we got.

He likes her a lot.

So no, he's got no, it's all good.

It's okay.

Mark.

Yeah.

So, Mark, we got high school football coming up down the road.

We're gonna

reveal it.

I think two weeks.

Yeah.

Yeah, we're finishing up some of our commercials next week so they can get edited.

It's going to be here before you know it.

But you guys are going to be a part of it again, right?

Yep, we're all part of it.

So you guys are trying to get ready.

Such a part.

And that's what it is.

Starting to get ready for fall seasons.

I know, hey, we just talked about summer, but everything's going to come fast and furious.

We all just said, man, June's already done.

I know.

So I just said, you know, hey, my reminder, my preach, because it's for the next six weeks, get out there, get your kids.

If your kids have to play sports, if they want to play sports, I should say, they do need a pre-participation exam.

So do the school

schedule those mark or is

it on the individual?

That's on the individual.

But if you are, I mean, we try to start in the middle school, but you're required in high school every other year in Wisconsin, every year in Michigan.

It's just, it's a quick exam.

When I say quick exam, it probably takes you 20 minutes, but they're going to check your vision.

They're going to check your heart.

They're going to check your lungs.

They're going to check your body parts.

They want to make sure that you're safe.

I'm

going to say something.

I was joking around about what I really did have, my torsion incident.

You don't even want me to get started.

That's a whole different show.

We could go on and on about that.

But I do know on a serious note, some young guys have been diagnosed because the doctors noticed something a little abnormal.

that wouldn't have been detected before and have caught some serious things early.

Yeah, you know, I mean, the big one right now that's being talked about is cardiac screenings.

You know, I mean, you can sit there and say, Hey, someone, you know, they don't we don't think they have any problems.

They don't have any symptoms.

But even as my wife knows, sometimes these things kind of creep up.

It doesn't matter if you're age, you could you could be 10 15 20, you could be 40 50 60.

So it's one of those things.

If you have something, we want to make sure we catch it.

someone asked me, how many times does everyone go through a physical and you never can participate?

I don't think I've ever heard anyone get disqualified ever.

Now, I'm not going to say that it hasn't happened, but it's just one of those things.

It's a good preventive technique.

Are you ready?

The other thing, it's kind of like, Hey, you know, do you have anything wrong?

No, no, no, no, yes.

And all these knows, then also during the exam, you know what?

My knee still hurts from an injury that I had six months ago.

Oh, well, let's take a look at and find out.

Geez, it was never taken care of because it got injured in the last game of the year.

So, if you, you know, and I tell people, talk to your primary care physicians, they do them at fast care, urgent cares, just get out, be seen.

It, you know, it'll, for some people, it'll be your insurance.

If you're a partner in school with Bell and we do them for $20, we turn the $20 back over to the schools.

How do they

make a reservation?

or an appointment.

A lot of times, you know, just call your primary care physician and get scheduled.

That may be one of your tougher ones.

If you're last minute, we do have fast care urgent cares where you can walk in and probably spend 70 bucks, 80 bucks.

And like I said, if you're a partner in school, it's $20, but it's easy to do.

The biggest thing I'm saying this, it's July 3rd.

don't wait till August 5th on first day of football, or whatever.

It's August 17th.

I'm making that day up, but it's probably close.

First day of soccer, and you've waited the entire summer.

You didn't act on it, and now your kids screaming, going, I have practice at 3 PM, and I need this.

Why didn't you get it done back in July and August?

My point is, plan it out and get in.

All right.

That's good advice.

And you know, it's summer.

My father-in-law used to say, you know, July

I don't know that it's half over, but you know, we're going to see back to school stuff.

If you're a high school football athlete,

it's going to come quick.

It is.

So I think that's really good advice and, you know, $20, 20 minutes.

That's not a lot.

Yeah.

So in

state rule, they have to have it before they're about to practice.

Yeah.

Okay.

So it's so in high school, you should have it coming as a freshman and then you would get it done again in your junior year or right before your junior.

So twice in a high school period, if you're living in Michigan, you need to get it done every year.

And to your knowledge, which is pretty deep, there's no one's been disqualified, so there's no fear in doing it.

Yeah, I mean, if your question would be, have you ever heard anyone disqualified?

I have never heard anyone disqualified.

I would agree.

But I will say, I'm sure some people have been disqualified.

Some people may come up and say, hey, we do some of these cardiac screens, and sometimes to be like, hey, you need to get this thing, look at it, and get it ruled out.

Whatever.

Get it done.

Yeah, get it done.

I think that's the biggest thing.

you know, it's it's it's it's it's

it's it's it's it's it's it's

it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's

it's it's it's it's it's it's it's

Still a lot of my friends and trivers, trivers.

Quick break, back

in.

as they say.

Well, James Brown,

living in

America, baby.

Yeah.

That was not a bad James Brown.

That

was pretty

good.

Actually, if you could dance like him, that would be interesting.

You could do that.

We're here at Kelly and Jerry from the Elks Lodge.

Hello, ladies.

Hello.

Thanks for getting

up early and coming to see us.

Yes.

Absolutely.

Say your

last names for me so I know McCain.

McCann.

McCann.

McCann.

Downard.

Yes.

Okay.

There you go.

Thank you very much.

A little prize.

Thank you very

much.

Yeah, you said it better than my grandma.

We got married.

We took her five years.

Love it.

Well, you guys got a lot going on.

You guys have done so much for the community.

We wanted to recognize you and Jim's got all the details.

Well, we talk about how this, what makes this community work, are organizations like yours that raise money, give out grants.

Tell us some of the things you're working on and we just really appreciate what the Elks do.

Well,

The nice thing is this is something I know for myself and a lot of the Elks, we like to help in the community, but we can only do so much on our own.

So we found that going to the Elks for us helped us.

We get grants from both the Wisconsin Elks Association and Grand Lodge, which is the national Elks.

We get a freedom grant and we use that money for soup for vets.

We have a free meal for our veterans once a month.

It's the second Wednesday of every month, except July.

July is just too busy.

and where do you host that?

That's at the Elk's Lodge.

Right at the Lodge, okay.

3195 South Ridge Road.

And it's

been there forever,

huh?

Well, before that, it was downtown here.

Yeah, that's right.

A lot of people remember downtown.

They remember that, yeah.

And yeah, you bring your families, come on down.

It's not always soup.

Sometimes we cook out.

You know, we do a lot of different things.

And our cooks are

awesome.

Nice.

I just want to talk about how important that is, not for the meals, the socialization that

is so important as we get, not older, but it just, it pours a lot of widowers.

Absolutely, absolutely.

We have a group of brothers, they come, there's five brothers, and they all did multiple tours in Vietnam, and they come with their wives, but they socialize with everybody there, everybody socializes, and it's so nice.

I don't know if you realize it, we've had people come on here, psychologists, we've had people, that can help.

depression it can help with can lead to some not good things if people don't socialize so just thank you for keeping that up and that you've been doing that for some time I

just think that's been doing that for many years and then we also have crafts kits that we give out to our veterans and that's something else that you've had Gail Norr on here before with veterans first she's a member of ours and she's making the tiny home community and we are

going to be supplying them with a lot of different items.

One of the things is the craft kits and all they're free to, you know, any of the veterans that come in for super vets, we give them the craft kits.

There's a little thank you note.

It's pre stamped inside there.

They just need to send the thank you note so that the people that donate them to the alks get the recognition that they need.

But it's nice because they can sit down and they can sew or something or do some beadwork.

and talk to each other socialize and it's nice because that opens it up.

All right.

And what I like about the Elks is you really put you walk the walk.

I mean, you really.

Exactly.

That's exactly

what Kim

just

texted it.

The Elks walk the walk when it

comes to helping veterans.

Because when we hear about your organization, I used to attend quite a few of them like Johnny did too.

And it's just it's such a plethora of things that you that you offer.

So so then some of the things that that go on at the Elks Lodge are.

Now while the American Red Cross Drive is every Friday at the Elks Lodge, and then there's a modern twist Western Dance Club every Thursday night.

We have Soup for Vets is a free meal for the vets every second Wednesday of the month

in

July, except for July.

Then there's the Green Bay Accordion Club the first Saturday of the month.

except for in July there's

an accordion club

there's an accordion club that shows up at the lodge they come from all over wisconsin i

mean they travel and what do they do they play accordions they come

there and do a oh yes wow is it lessons or do they just like jam

they jam

isn't that fun you know what wouldn't that be fun on a friday morning because normally we do live music on fridays wouldn't they

come in here and play one of them is a member

We can give you a contact number.

We

would love that.

That is a, just an, I mean, everybody likes accordion music.

Oh, and

you can go listen to it if you just want to go listen to it.

All right.

Yeah.

That's cool.

All right.

So that's on the

first Saturday of the month.

Okay.

And then, uh, the, uh, the, uh, Carrie Calva Trivia, second Friday of every month, except for July.

And that funds, uh, two scholarships.

Wow.

That's neat.

Um, the Green Bay Deaf Club.

check the Facebook page for that,

because they have different

schedules.

Then the PAC, the Boy Scouts, 4163, they have meetings there, and then the Ladies American Legion Post, 539 has meetings there also.

I spoke at one of the Veterans Day.

activities you guys had there a few years back and boy that you guys treated those veterans so well and the meal you had just the door prizes and just the it was just a great great event in fact for one of my books.

I bet I came up with three candidates that are now in my book.

that I'm writing, you know, just from meeting them there in that social setting like that.

So you guys do a great thing up in my hometown and I've talked to Jim about this, the Elks, my brother's member, the Elks up in my hometown in the UP, they raise so much money by making and selling pasties.

You can't believe it.

It's legendary how much money they make selling pasties.

Oh, you should become an elk.

Do you know how many members of ours are from the UP?

I'll bet a lot.

I can count about 10 of them, myself included.

Where are you from?

Go ahead.

Oh my gosh.

Originally, Susan Marie.

Oh, you're a blue devil then.

Yes, I'm both.

You know what?

In those small communities up there, the Elks is kind of like the, you know, center

of

social

social.

Right.

It is.

It's great.

Yeah.

My grandpa's brother was an elk and I always thought, oh, he'd be so proud because I'm the club president, which is our exalted

ruler.

And then I thought, oh, he passed in the 70s.

He might have been kind of annoyed that they even let me in the door.

Right.

Things have changed.

You know better

pasties.

Oh, I can make a pasty.

But we do the broad fry down here.

We do broad fries.

And matter of fact, if you check our schedule, we have five of them coming up at Festival Foods.

Well, those are good broads.

Another text

there.

Just one of the underrated organizations that do so much for folks in our community.

Thank you from Rick.

Oh, you're welcome.

Thank you.

Thank you.

And that's nice because just going through these things, you're very visible almost weekly.

Oh yeah, we do children's parties.

We do a Halloween, Christmas, and Easter.

So are you looking for new members?

Always.

Always.

Let's

talk about that.

Always

looking for new members.

If you are interested in becoming an elk, you can go to www.elks.org.

You can pop into the lodge, come in on a Thursday night.

The bartender can help you out, show you around, tell you about what's going on.

And you can go to...

Um, gb elks two five nine at gmail.com that will email our lodge or call us at nine two zero nine eight three nine two five nine.

And that phone rings to the secretary.

I love

what you guys are talking about with so many different types of activities, right?

You know, where it's the different days of the week and things like that.

Talk one more time.

The gym brought up about your brat fries.

Cause I want to be able to be push people there

when and

where.

We'll be at the Depeer festival foods, July 20th.

July 25th, and August 24th.

And

then the Kerry-Kulba Scholarship, they're doing two broadfies to help get more funds so they can give up.

larger amounts or more scholarships and those will be August 2nd and August 23rd.

All Green Bay.

And you have branches all over.

I know in two rivers my dad was the exalted ruler in two rivers and he called it the exhausted

rooster.

I actually have a pin my husband ordered me that says the exhausted ruler and I wore it to a conference and nobody

saw.

He said the exhausted rooster or something.

But he really enjoyed that and again what he liked about it was there's

just the variety of things that they did in two rivers.

And the thing is, you can put as little or as much time as you want.

Jerry, tell them about, I was in the hospital and I wasn't there, but everybody

stepped up and tried to help out, lead the meetings.

I was out for almost six months.

during Christmas.

So I missed Christmas.

I missed a lot of stuff.

And it went on without me.

You know, there are a lot of

organizations that have really well, the BFW is one of them that have really struggled for newer members.

How are you guys doing along those lines?

We're keeping our head above water.

Yeah, I think

so.

But it is every organization.

Optimist,

Rotary, all that stuff.

And

what there's got to be dues for this about

it's about $123 a year.

But it's prorated.

We go from April to

March and it's roughly $10 and something like $11 a month.

So they'll prorate it.

Right.

But when you think about it, putting in that much money, you know, you'd spend that much at Starbucks going there once or twice.

You could put that in.

Got a text here.

Just follow up when you're standing there.

Follow the green GB Elks Lodge 259 Facebook page for more details.

Elizabeth.

Elizabeth.

I knew that was Elizabeth.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for the

reminder.

And I just want to say that you do a lot of good, but

Selfishly you it's good to socialize with people.

That's really healthy people talk about diets and exercise, which is really important But you know you read a lot more about getting out of the house and talking to people and meeting people and this is a great way to do that

For

$11 a month.

Oh, I know I know like I said you can go to Starbucks and spend that yeah And

it's about the it's all about it is all about the social and the

The thing about the Elks is they remember you.

You become part of a group that they will not forget you.

If you're sick, they'll

send you a card.

They'll

visit you if you need a meal.

They'll show up.

They're just a wonderful...

Brotherly love it's all about the brotherly love.

That's great.

Oh, and we do a lot with the youth We've been talking a lot about them about the veterans, but not just that I we buy school supplies and give them to the kids that need and we fill backpacks and give them to kids We buy like $1,200 worth of winter clothes every year and we donate them to the school districts

You guys are old school in a really good way when I say that

and the more people we have the more members we have the more we can do

right beautiful true and when you look at

community.

And I know a little bit about that.

Those are the organizations that make it work.

You know, I mean, politicians might take the credit, but it is grassroots.

It's the nonprofit grassroots that that understand what the community needs to.

I mean, you're hearing things, you go to these meetings and say, look, these kids need school supplies.

It's Green Bay's changed a little bit.

And we there's a lot of needs out there.

And the Elks that came before us, they taught us so much, so much that we didn't even realize that how many years these things have been happening.

I mean, the Green Bay Elks has been

in Green Bay since 1893.

The Elks started out as a group of actors in New York in 1868.

They were called the Jolly Corks and one of their members died and left his family destitute and they decided that they were going to turn themselves into a group that was a benevolent protective order of the Elks.

And what they did is they're helping the widows, they're helping the children, they're helping people with homelessness.

you know, take

you got to just another quick texture.

It must be from your Elizabeth possibly.

Okay.

No, for membership information, you can email B G E L K S. So B G

G B.

It's backwards

backwards.

Green Bay.

Is that too much

to ask?

Come on, Elizabeth.

Come on.

She's blaming

Elizabeth.

You're blaming Todd.

Anyway, G.B.

We know

that.

G.B.

Elks 259 at gmail.com.

G.B.

Elks 259 at gmail.com.

All right.

My fault, Elizabeth.

OK.

Sorry, Elizabeth.

It was my fault.

All right.

All right.

All right.

All right.

Anyway, there's so many ways to contact this.

Even phone number talk to the secretary, but yeah, what a great thing and then you know people we talk about New Year's resolutions, but there's any time you can join right?

If

you

call me if you call the lodge today, we can get you in the third Wednesday We have a meeting and we're doing where

do

you guys meet at 3195 South Ridge?

Oh, yeah, okay.

That's right.

That's where your headquarters is.

All right easy parking easy to get there.

So

lots of

parking

Yeah,

okay.

Listen, thank you for you do for our veterans for our youth for just everybody the community and you guys do it quiet

you know, pound your chest, look at us.

You guys just put your heads down and get the

job done.

And look at all these activities that you read off and we didn't even get to them all.

We're going to keep promoting you.

We've got a

copy of this.

We're going to keep promoting them as they go on.

I appreciate

that.

Thanks for what you're

doing.

Thank you very much.

Thank you both very

much.

Have a

good four.

Kelly Downard, Jerry McCain, McCann, right?

Yes.

Jerry McCann.

I got to ask one quick, right?

Rootabakers, yes or no?

Yes.

In your pasties?

Yes.

Okay.

Thank you.

Oh, yeah.

All right.

Go for

it.

Did you ever go to Jack's Hideaway Bar?

A Jack's Hideaway, one of the people from Jack's Hideaway, one of their family members, I went to school with her.

Jocko?

One of Jocko's

family?

Uh, I'm not gonna say names on the character,

but yeah, yeah, it was.

Brats are rutabaggy.

Brats are pasties.

Pasties.

Yeah!

July 3rd all getting a little bit cloudy out there now, but not bad.

Nice forecast.

Hi in the mid 80s.

By the way, your Milwaukee Brewers.

We take it on the Mets in New York again 535 on WISS.

Todd, we haven't talked about your weekend.

He doesn't tell

us anything.

Why do you even?

It'll be work.

I gotta tell you though, my garden is going crazy.

I bet I have so many tomatoes, so many.

cucumbers and zucchini and all my God, I'll take I'll take

zucchini and I'll take cucumbers.

Okay.

So when I was making my pasta, spinach, salad, tomatoes, I just it was great just out in the that six foot thing and get the cilantro and parsley and yeah, just your

flower bed, your vegetable

bed, just go out there and cut it off and put it in there.

It was nothing I taste better.

Yeah.

And it's so fresh.

Because that's the kind of stuff is like, I forgot to get at the store.

Boom, it's right there.

So it's not as good as Todd's.

When I was a kid,

I mean, my dad was so big into his gardens.

I mean, they were huge.

And for salads at night,

somebody would go out to the garden.

It's right there.

And the whole thing would be picked right there.

And five minutes later, you were eating.

I

know.

See, I don't have to go to the garden.

I just turn around.

It's right there because I don't have the garden like Todd.

I'm not that.

Yeah, you keep it.

It's just closer.

Might are just beds, too, though.

Like, just larger beds that I've built.

Are they raised?

Oh, they are.

If you don't, rabbits will eat everything.

That's true, too.

Yep.

Yep.

That's the only thing that saved me this year, because I've lost a lot of stuff over the years.

I

hate to say it, but I almost think it's time to bring in some kind of a predator for rabbits.

I

mean, there's so many of

them.

22.

It's beyond belief.

My dog tries to

do

this job.

Yeah.

It's

crazy.

So there's, Brad, there's chipmunks, too, right?

And Chippy is

one that is in our yard and him and Milton.

Wait a minute,

you've named the chipmunk?

Oh yeah, Chippy.

And

Milton.

That's original, I believe.

Yeah, I know.

It just took him days and days.

Anyway, if we say Chippy's here, right to the window, we let him out.

That chipmunk knows that we have that electric fence and he goes

right across and he's like putting the finger

up.

But anyway, he stays in the yard, obviously, but rabbits, they are, we have a ton of rabbits.

And I live in the hood and they're right there.

So it's, I don't know.

They're kind of.

He taught, he did not get a joke.

I told him yesterday that I read off the internet.

What joke

is

it?

It's just

wondering about the guy.

He goes, sorry, I wanted to buy some fireworks and kind of heavy duty stuff.

So I went to this, this roadside thing and the guy brought out some extra strength stuff and I said, are these, are these safe?

I said, does anybody need to know about this?

He gave me a wink and a high four.

That was funny.

I'm like, why don't get it?

He could not figure that out.

How long did it take you,

Jeff?

I told him I said, I don't get it.

He blew off a finger.

No, I get it.

No, that's funny.

That's really funny.

So yeah.

Yeah.

Are you doing it at home?

Are you going to shoot off some fireworks?

I don't think so.

My dog hates it.

I

don't want

to have

it.

It's, you know, there's enough places to go now.

Yeah, there.

You know, when I lived in Ledgeview and it wasn't, it wasn't even fully developed yet that area.

There was woods

behind me and you could, you know, do whatever, but no, not now.

But I'll tell you what, we're right here where we are.

This is going to be the hub of everything happening in Green Bay.

Yeah.

I mean, it really is.

Celebrating America's birthday, shooting off fireworks that are 99% from China.

Yes.

Okay.

But.

Yeah.

Do you remember?

Remember the Bicentennial?

Oh, yeah.

Oh,

yeah, man.

Yeah.

That was the biggest buildup ever.

How many?

How many silos out there had the big 76 painted?

Yeah.

Remember that?

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

Yes.

Red, white, and blue, Vera.

Then they had this.

I have the.

And Rocky had come

out.

Remember Rocky had come out then?

I still have those.

It's the donkey and the elephant.

Like canisters.

It must have been.

vodka whiskey and just there's a lot of cool commemorative stuff you could buy and Yeah, it was a big big big deal.

It was a long time ago.

Donate those for something.

Didn't you show me those one

time or

donate them for something?

Maybe I did.

Yeah.

Yeah, I don't know but there was that was cool 200 and that's not a long time 200 years.

Oh my gosh.

Well, that is what I don't

know.

But all you got to do is go to Europe, go to like Prague.

And it's like, oh, that's a nice church.

Yeah, it was built.

Oh, I know.

You know what I mean?

It's like, yeah.

Yeah.

But everybody was into it in 76.

I remember even the TV stations changed their logo to have red, white and blue or something.

Absolutely.

That was huge.

The bison tenure was a huge thing.

But you know, it's one of those things.

So too, it's it's like when you.

when it's it's just kind of funny because okay I've got my 50th class reunion coming up okay it's like 1975 doesn't seem that long ago I mean okay but in 1975 if somebody was having a 50 year reunion they would have been born in like 1904 you know what I mean I know that isn't that bizarre

when you think about that it is here's the other thing as of

as of today that was cars 1904

I'm going to blow your mind.

Maybe the automobile wasn't here.

We weren't flying.

Well,

we're just getting started on that.

That

would have been the people having a 50 year reunion when I was graduating from high

school.

So we are over half the years done for 2025.

OK, here's the thing.

We are now closer to 2050 than we are to 20,000.

Say

that again.

No.

We are closer to 2050.

Wow.

Now

right

then 2000 then 2000.

Okay.

I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you something I remember I had a brother in a lot tell me this one time Actually, if I still remember because it was on the 4th of July and and I was his birthday and he's like 34 You know one of those not you know, you think you know, he's a poor guy, you know, I said, what's that like?

You know getting me there for he says I'm gonna tell you something from

about 28 to 34 is going to go by so fast.

And you're going to constantly think to yourself, well, last year when I did, and I said, oh, that was five years ago.

And he said, it keeps going that way.

And when you said the year 2000, I still think of that as, oh, yeah, I remember that basketball game

that

day.

Isn't that crazy?

It

is.

I hate to sound like two old guys talking about, but it does go so fast.

It's mind boggling.

And people said to us,

It goes fast and you're like not believe we didn't believe like you're old You just say that because you're old and now it

and now it's 100% the truth

blinking.

It's

gone.

Yeah, it's unreal But

Steve just texted and he said next year is 250 years.

How come we don't hear much about it?

That's a good point.

You know what?

Yeah, that

is

250.

We're just talking about the 200.

I

know

What are we gonna do for that show?

No man, I don't know.

We'll close the street.

Wow.

We will.

We'll be like a

hundred.

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And here are your hosts, John

Mino and Jim Schmidt.

Hey, thank you very much.

Welcome back.

Mino and the Mayor, hour number three.

If you've been with us this long, stay with us.

This could get even better.

Oh, as soon as we're done with Pat Tracy.

Because then...

We got Dennis coming on Dennis Peters of course from the glam band and we are going to have a Replay a big mouth the power tool horns and Woody Mankowski and what they did in this studio yesterday You got to hear this to believe it is for our daddy D productions live music series

I love

what Woody did in the America, the beautiful

you heard

that.

Yes, I

was guys picture this.

I'm cleaning out my garage in anticipation of the 4th of July.

And of course I have WSS on in my garage.

Great.

And that comes on.

I had goosebumps in my garage listening to

Jim and I were standing right there.

We both turned to each other.

It's like, do you have goosebumps?

Completely.

It was it was it was incredible.

He's good.

Wait till you folks hear us.

If you missed it yesterday, wait till you play it back coming up during our Daddy Deep Productions live music series with Dennis from the Glam Band.

How you doing, Pat?

We just had Lisa on.

Told us it's a beautiful day in Oshkosh.

Yes, you had Lisa.

I missed it.

Lisa.

Lisa Lisa.

Lisa Hale.

Oh, oh, our Lisa Hale.

Our Lisa Hale.

Yeah, that lady that kind of is right there.

Hey, can we call her Lisa Lisa

now?

I think that's cool.

I like it.

I like it.

But she was talking about the thing at Menominee

Park.

She's trying to break into radio.

So yeah,

we'll give her a name.

Got to give her a name.

So hey, big doings in Ashkosh this weekend.

And the best part is my daughter is bringing home her newly minted husband.

Oh, to spend the fourth with

mom and dad.

That's why you were cleaning the garage.

That's cleaning up the garage.

You should have left it for him and really give him the test.

Can I just paint a quick picture here of what this poor guy's weekend's going to be like?

Yes.

I have a list of like eight projects.

All those little things that like I either hate doing or I can't do like fix the toilet handle, you

know,

like, I got a list.

You're going to give him the list.

Wow.

So

he loves it.

He lives for the list.

OK.

He's an overachiever.

OK.

Good to

hear.

Nobody on this show is Pat.

I know we're questioning it.

We're not overachievers.

We're going

to get.

OK.

I'll tell you I'll tell you a little story of what I got from my father.

We would be

the bare minimum.

Yes.

Here.

OK.

So

this guy's showing

up.

He's

here.

OK.

Well let's just.

So actually I wanted to run a chainsaw.

is what I wanted to do.

I wanted to get the biggest chainsaw I could rent because RJ is, uh, his side gig is fireman EMT.

Oh, okay.

He's a man's talent.

Yeah.

I wanted to rent the chainsaw and I've got a forest in my backyard that I was hoping he would just chop down for me over the fourth.

Well, I'm feeding him brats and spotted cows.

That's

good.

My wife's like, no,

we're not getting a lot of cows in a big chainsaw.

You know, not a good combo, but.

Anyway, I lost though.

There's no chainsaw.

We're going to be like, you know, fixing the toilet and handle and the little screw in the cabinet.

So that's what we're going

to be doing.

Yeah.

OK, Pat.

I would have given up the spotted car.

It

went very manly to very.

I didn't want to say it, but

the wife won.

OK.

Well, that's nothing new.

Yeah.

Jim,

tell us your story and save me.

OK.

So I was.

My father-in-law came to my house and said to Donnie, he goes, I don't see a lot of tools around the house.

I'm going to get some for Jim.

So this was in my Christmas.

And he got me the crescent wrenches and stuff, you know, and they come looking at like cellophane.

Yeah, the

ratchet set.

The ratchet set.

And then he came over 4th of July.

I had a change the tank on the gas grill and he said, um, I'll help you do that.

And I'm like, no, don't go downstairs and you're all still in.

Not my thing.

Just don't.

I don't like tools.

So anyway,

I did not win the man a card like your son in law.

So not my thing, but.

So love them.

That was my lead in to talk about the amazing fourth of July weekend that I'm going to show them here in Oshkosh.

Farmers markets got to be on there.

Oh my gosh.

Well, that's Saturday.

Let's make it to Saturday because tomorrow friends is the fourth of July.

It is.

We will be marching in the Oshkosh fourth of July parade.

with discover Oshkosh RJ is coming and it's gonna be his first parade ever.

He's gonna march with me.

He's how long of a parade is that?

I it might be two

miles.

Oh, that's not too bad because you ever have you ever done that Appleton one?

I walked that one time for an organization way back and I know what parade right you guys because when I did the the Miss Wisconsin.

pageant thingy.

So

I know exactly where you mean.

That's that's a cool loop.

That's not too bad.

So this guy gets to fix the toilet handle and march in a parade.

And screwing the cabinet

menacing cabinet.

Wow.

Missing.

Yeah.

For

any projects that I've missed.

How much is he going to be lying when he goes back home.

Right.

Get down some trees.

Drink some spotted cows.

Awesome.

He loves it.

He's a Minnesota man.

Sure.

He does.

Yeah, I'm sure.

Yeah.

Um, uh, nine a.m.

She's like

RJ.

RJ.

It's one day.

It's one day, honey.

Please.

Yes.

Wow.

What?

Friends, if you have not seen the Oshkosh, uh, Fourth of July parade, it's really fun.

And the streets from literally Main Street from, uh, Wagyu all the way north to Irving.

is lined with festive people and then the parade turns right on Irving Street and then marches due east right to Monamony Park.

So what are you

going to be

wearing?

We'll be wearing like, well, I'll personally have a red hat and a white shirt and blue pants.

Nice.

Okay, there you

go.

All right.

Are you handing anything

out, candy to

the

kids or anything?

We have a Discover Oshkosh Cousies.

There

you

go.

Oh.

Another promo item that will remain unnamed.

But guys, our funnest thing is we have this big picture frame.

And if you go to discover Oshkosh, you'll see some of the photos.

We have this big picture frame that you can that like we carry around.

It's light and three or four people can get in it and it says, you know, Happy Fourth of July from Oshkosh.

Isn't that nice?

That's good.

Nice

memory.

I know.

Get

your frame makes it you guys.

I want to give that idea to you as my

I like it.

I like it a lot.

Now,

tell us about this food truck rally at Menominee Park.

Oh my gosh.

So they, the fireworks are moving slightly north this year.

So most people won't care.

But in Oshkosh, you're just going to sit in the big lawn there in Menominee Park now, right along Hazel Street.

The food trucks will start at 3pm.

And so we've got 20 of the Valley's finest food trucks.

coming.

That's

a I've never been to a place with 20 food trucks.

That's really

that's cool.

And they're going to locate it like five spots, I believe five clusters throughout the park.

And so you know, it's, it's not quite a mile from one end of the other, it's probably a half mile from one end of the park to the other.

So families would be able to come to Menominee Park to enjoy the fireworks, walk up and down along the lake, eat food.

The playground is there so you can tire the kids out.

The beach is there.

Heck, I would swim in the little beach right there.

There's sand and everything.

And then a food truck yourself and the kids will be asleep before the fire.

I don't mean to interrupt here, Pat.

We got a text, a serious text for you.

Ceiling fan.

Don't forget the bleeping ceiling fan.

Oh, gosh.

OK.

That.

That's so funny.

Who's that from?

Gee, I wonder who sent that.

It wasn't it wasn't RJ.

Thank you, Don.

The ceiling fan.

Yeah.

This is classic Pat.

Pat's Pat's the big project.

The whole lifestyle improvement project to keep on cool.

Yeah.

In July.

All of a sudden that got forgotten.

Okay.

Wow,

that's okay, buddy.

She's

listed.

I gotta meet.

I gotta I want to meet Saint RJ.

Okay, so and then the fireworks start at nine, but I have a super cool tip for the listeners.

Okay, this is this is not really out there on Hazel Street at Melvin and Hazel.

Okay, Melvin is one of the East West streets.

Okay.

There's a house that a fellow sets up a rock band on his roof His roof on his roof and he puts scaffolding up there and he plays at 9 p.m.

Todd have you seen bad acts?

Yes Wow see so This fella has been working for a week to build a ski he does this every year

He builds a scaffold on his roof enough that he can put up on his roof of a one-story

In the city of Oshkosh is okay with this because I could see Jim back

Just

being

on love live music in Oshkosh, okay, he then hauls up an entire drum kit and riser Good bass guitar and electric guitar and I think one year they had keyboards amps up on the roof

with a light show and pyrotechnics

and honest to God, he doesn't as owner.

Yeah, it's a bar.

Tell him he doesn't want

his own and there's a sign out in front of his house that says 9 p.m.

Fourth of July.

Bring lawn chairs.

Wow.

That's actually really cool.

I would like to see that.

Oh, wow.

Ashkashians and beyond be at Menominee Park.

put in your phone Hazel and Melvin to houses north is bad acts.

Wow.

A D A X.

We got to get some video of that.

Yeah.

We got.

I want to see this.

That sounds like I

get video for you guys.

Excellent.

So so how are we doing for breaks here?

Because I

got about two minutes, two minutes.

Oh, last last year.

So we go down every year.

Last year we went down and they play like a classic rock set of like, uh, you know, early seventies stuff, right?

I'm super fun classic rock at the big crescendo at the end.

They light off the pyro on the roof and it is so hot that it hits your forehead.

I mean, it's like, wow.

This

is and they're allowed.

I mean, one person at their home is allowed to do that.

I love this.

I love that about Oshkosh.

This is why I love Oshkosh, baby.

Right.

Come here.

Liability.

What's the liability?

That's great.

I mean, it's, it's fantastic.

That is, that's a fun.

Todd,

are you going to

be, touch me there?

He just said, go ahead and get the door.

Yeah.

Open the door.

That sounds like a fun evening.

Wow.

That is.

Oh my gosh.

So, so he's got it figured out now.

So nine p.m.

He plays his set up until like 945 And then the fireworks start

that sounds phenomenal.

That just sounds like a really fun

weekend like neighborhood yes camaraderie and yeah that's

great I'm so jacked and and the best part is I get to come here and share it with you in the listeners right that's like the the funnest part of all that's

great well Pat I'll tell you what you should I hope you have a phenomenal weekend I hope the weather holds but man you sure honor we talk about this all the time for as much crap as we give you you are so passionate for your community it's incredible and

community

needs

that to keep going and you bring it

Yeah,

we love our community here in Oshkosh.

We have a great fourth and we'll see you next week.

You're

the best.

Appreciate it, my friend.

Take care, buddy.

We got a quick break back right after this.

when they do their thing with this.

Goosebumps.

Goosebumps.

But again, wait till you hear.

We're here at Dennis Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns with Woody Mankowski did an amazing performance yesterday.

We're going to be playing that back in our Daddy D productions live music series.

And I'll tell you what, you know, it's really cool.

Both of you guys, Dennis Peters here and Daddy D, both Army veterans.

And when you hear music like that, I still think of the

You know, of the concert or excuse me, the parades with the when I was the World War Two, even some World War One veterans and the World War Two veterans.

And that was the music that all the bands will be playing in the parades.

Oh, yeah.

So I still get a thing for you guys having been a part of that.

And their uniforms are still fit.

So am I really?

Absolutely.

It's unbelievable.

Some of those might.

Yeah, that music takes you back to the bison.

It does.

Yeah, I was listening to that on the way in here.

Yeah,

crazy that next year is 50.

Yeah, you know,

Arthur Fielder's Boston pops.

Right.

Yeah.

Unbelievable.

Love that.

I still I still get goosebumps listening to that.

I mean, that's something I would attend.

You know what I mean?

Where is that in Boston itself?

Right?

Right in the in the Harbor Lake area.

Where they do that life.

I thought that was in New York City that they had the thing that they had the bicentennial the big prey.

There was a national TV back in the day.

Okay, was it DC?

I don't know.

I got a feeling it was freaking everywhere.

You know, I

was I mean it was talking but talking made a good point that we really there was a lot of buildup to that

the sure was

doesn't seem like there's a lot of buildup to the 250th.

So maybe we have

to start

working on

it.

So we're launching it right here and

I've noticed

that as well.

We're

officially launching it

right here.

Tonight.

And to do it, I want to just, I want to share this picture on our stream.

This is what'll kick it off for us.

Oh yeah, I just got to wear that.

It's Liberace.

That's right.

And he's going to lead the parade.

I like to thank my

friend George.

And the parade's only going to be here in the studio and he'll just march

around.

Hey, steps are steps.

It doesn't matter, right?

Absolutely.

They don't, they don't, they don't say how, they say how many.

That's right.

Dennis Peters lamb band in the house.

Good

morning.

We

have a weekend off or no,

we do not as they say up

north.

Okay,

we are playing at Riverfront rendezvous and Stevens Point tonight.

Oh, six to 10.

So it's gonna all those deals.

But on the fourth you have a gig.

We're off.

Oh, that's right.

We had it scheduled off in advance.

Cool.

Yeah,

I mean

you know

people realize

you guys have families.

We do.

You're not all 24 years old like you look on

stage.

So what will you do?

That's a good question.

I have some friends that in American Platinum probably see them once or twice this weekend.

Some other bands too.

They're like Boogie and the Yo-Yo's is playing at the Wharf this weekend on Sunday.

Might stop in and see those folks.

Cool.

They got some friends down in Sheboygan area.

Who knows?

Who knows?

Can you

go to somebody else's venue as you?

and be left alone by people.

A lot of the time.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But the musician types usually kind of know me.

Because when

we were at the at Epic that night and it was fine and then once no it wasn't there.

Where was it?

Oh it's a different it was at Epic but you guys were performed and beforehand you know you were you're cool talking and then as soon as you put on your thing it's like you couldn't move with people.

Talking to you and everything.

It's interesting because there's some bliss in that You know what I mean?

Yeah, you know So I'm kind of a private person to begin with that's what I mean, you know

But then when you're that character people just want

to swarm you I just realized I'm starting to sound like Mark Houston

You didn't notice that in that delivery?

It's like, holy, wow.

Sorry, Mark.

I meant no harm by that.

But I just realized that my tone sounded just like him.

We're Dennis Peters from Glam Band for the Daddy D Productions live music series.

But our live music, as we mentioned, will be what we recorded yesterday with Woody Mankowski in Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns.

And there's a lot going on.

Of course, it's for two reasons.

One is it's a great time to celebrate.

But secondly, it is July.

It's

not crazy.

We got

to lean into July here and these parts.

But yeah, just everywhere it is.

You know, I'm talking about Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, you know, just all the way up and down the lake.

There's just so many festivals and things going on.

And yeah, people need to get out and celebrate.

And this is

when we were kids, how the two rivers had stuff, but you know, in my area, there's so many, all these small communities go so big with it now.

And this is not a.

controversial.

Well, maybe a little bit today, but this isn't a controversial holiday.

This isn't a religious holiday.

This isn't buying gifts.

This is not a stressful holiday.

Pretty easy holiday, right?

I mean, oh,

yeah, the

food's not real expensive.

And it's like, you don't have to get dressed up.

You don't have to go buy something new.

It's this is just a very let's celebrate.

I mean, we're all Americans and let's

celebrate baseball hot dogs,

apple pie and Chevrolet.

You know, it's still kind of funny that I'd love to go to some of those places.

I know Todd was gonna go to Gettysburg and I don't know if you've been to those.

But I

When you read about some of those revolutionary war battles or whatever, I can't believe our side won.

That's fair.

Well, I think

that's a good start of that way.

Right.

But the

other thing is how young those guys were.

I mean, those guys were

teen

ages, right?

Like 19, 20, 21.

They're like, you know,

and younger.

Yeah.

But I mean,

we're going to be one of the most

well-trained army in the world was Britain.

And we had a bunch of little farm

guys

beat them.

But they also said, you know, we're going to kick their ass.

They

were it's a matter of life.

It's like our guys said they were going to.

Yeah, they were very confident.

Well, that does sound the book of the World

War Fair, though, too.

Yeah.

Standing there in the wide open.

Hello.

Yeah.

Can you imagine

that?

I am a target.

I'm a red coat.

Isn't that amazing how they're dumb?

Did you ever watch the

pompous

series?

Not HBO, but one.

I don't know what it's whatever, whatever.

But it was I think it was called Spies.

Did you ever see that about the

Oh, George Washington had an amazing spy network.

Yeah, I want to go back to what I said.

But you said them or us when I said we're going to kick them, they were overconfident in

the British.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That's what I meant.

Yeah.

Yeah.

They were overconfident, but we were not intimidated.

That's

what I was looking for.

Great point.

Great point.

Life and liberty.

I mean, if you're right, right, it has a little more meaning than just fighting for the king.

Right.

Big mouth and the power tool horns and the Woody Mankowski segment will be coming up.

Daddy D productions live music series Dennis Pittier from the glam band.

We got a cast of thousands here.

They're just so impressive.

Yeah.

And then there's me in this slump.

97.9 FM WGVW 98.3 96.5 FM WISS and of course the Civic Media amp we're heading into a phenomenal weekend and I'll tell you we got Dennis Peters here from the Glam Band talk about some great things during our Big Mouth or during our Daddy Dee Productions live music series where you'll be hearing Big Mouth and the Power Tool horns and the solo by Woody Mankowski that was just amazing.

John Kramer, we want to thank you for putting that together.

Like I said, we already talked about it before, but Jim kind of put his foot in his mouth because he thought he was going to be like the big dog here with those cases.

Holy cow.

Oh, you guys here.

This was cost about three grand.

And fluff goes, Jim, that would have been 20 years ago.

Yeah, they're a little more expensive.

I know they

are.

But they're great at a wedding.

They played my my wedding Shindig.

I was there.

Yeah, you were there.

Yeah, you showed up on time and I know.

And that was awesome.

Fluffy pulling that card and the time you didn't show up to that event and I had to cover for you yesterday.

Yeah, that wasn't good again.

No, that

was

perfect.

That was great.

I don't know how he held that in all this time to play that card.

Yeah, he must have been playing.

He's very devious.

I know I'm not going to mess with him

anymore.

It's kind of scary.

Yeah,

John, introduce yourself and introduce Kevin.

Well, once again, John Kramer hit here today with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and our.

Division commander Kevin Osgood and we're going to talk a little bit about operation dry water

dry

water

Go ahead Kevin dry operation dry water.

Okay.

Well, thank you for being here now What is operation dry water

operation dry water is an annual national event and it's it's stepped up enforcement of

boating while intoxicated.

Trying to

reduce the number of intoxicated boaters on the water because so many people are going to be on the water from today on.

I mean it is a long weekend, it is a fun weekend, the weather is going to be great, people are going to be on the water and alcohol is the number one cause of fatalities and let's just call it deaths.

The number one cause of deaths on the water and we don't need that.

Across the country we've done a really good job of bringing the number of deaths down due to alcohol.

Let's keep it up.

What are you trying to do take a picture?

Well, yeah your

radio man put the camera away.

You're beautiful.

We got

to get you Can you do you need a reason to stop them like or you can you just Well, you know on the water any law enforcement organization can do a boarding to do a safety inspection There is no probable cause required to stop a boater on the water One of the difference that's that's one of the differences about

They're driving a boat and driving a car.

So law enforcement needs no reason to stop you other than to do a safety inspection.

If they smell alcohol on the captain, then that could lead to a whole new thing.

Right.

Is it like zero tolerance if you're piloting, driving a boat?

I mean, it's going to be a zero tolerance weekend, but it's the same blood alcohol content as driving in Wisconsin.

It's still 0.08.

OK.

And your guests can have open containers on the boat.

That's another thing that's different.

But the captain can't be intoxicated.

And there's a whole sort of slew of things that'll happen if you're caught.

So just avoid it.

So what do you mean by zero tolerance?

So you can still be given a ticket for operating well?

Do you guys do the test?

Even if you're under the 0.08?

Well, yeah, law enforcement can still, you know, if they suspect that the captain's intoxicated, then they're going to do a field sobriety test, just like you would if you were pulled over.

Wow.

How do you do that in the water?

I know.

There are some things they can do.

They'll sit you down on their vessel and do some things, and then there's...

then if they suspect from that, then they take you back to

shore.

Wow.

But they will.

But

here's

the biggest thing.

Is everybody tipsy in a boat?

I mean, literally.

Other folks can be tipsy, but there's a whole other risk that goes with that, too.

There's statistics on the number of drunk passengers who drown every year because they're not wearing a life

jacket

and they fall off.

But they can, yeah.

Can when you board the boat, can you look around and cite them for other things, like if they don't have their life preservers?

Well, yeah, it says if they stop you for safety inspection,

it's

a safety inspection

So

so where are your life jackets?

Are they readily accessible again in a locked cabinet doesn't work.

They got to be so

those are

Yeah, and that happens a lot.

It happens

a lot.

How much is the fine for something like that for not wearing a lot more than

Lionelite's got a seat belt, for example.

Not

wearing a life jacket, just paddling your kayak down the Fox River without the life jacket with you on the boat.

A couple hundred bucks.

No kidding.

That's not like a seat belt violation.

I mean, we had

4th of July here several years ago right here on the Green Bay waterfront.

Back when you were mayor, I remember a Coast Guard boat stopped a canoe that had six people in it and they had no life jackets.

and then six times 200.

Hey,

I hate to bring up a terrible thing.

Just happened.

I brought my area up in the U.P.

They had a bad tragedy last week up around Copper Harbor, which is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I tell Jim in the fall, he's got to make a road trip up there.

But three people in a canoe from what I understand on Lake Superior in the middle of the night, no life

jackets.

Two

of

them dropping.

That's that's incredibly sad.

That's

totally preventable.

Totally completely preventable.

I don't know what to say to that.

It's not in here about that one yet.

Yeah.

And I don't

know.

Do you guys borrow them to them or no, you used to

borrow them to them or

loan

them?

No, whatever.

Active duty Coast Guard.

No, I

mean,

they're there.

I mean.

No, on the auxiliary patrol boat, I've been out there on patrol on the Fox River and here in southern Bay of Green Bay.

And if we come across a boat and we see a small child, it's usually an infant because people find it it's harder to find those Coast Guard approved life jackets for your three month old baby.

But they're still required to have a life jacket on because they're under 12 and under.

So Jim is going to be out on the pontoon with his family.

this weekend.

We got him.

Give him some suggestions here just

don't drink and pilot the boat.

Have those life jackets out and about if not on on is preferable but

That's a struggle to get people to do and pay attention to the other people because I said this every time I'm here.

80% of the people on the water have never taken a boating safety class and have no idea what they're doing.

So only 20% do.

And that can scare you if you think of what I-41 would look like on a Friday holiday weekend if 80% of the people didn't know what they were doing.

So that's what's happening out on the water.

Be careful.

So the role then of an auxiliary is very much the same as you are enforcing law.

The auxiliary does not

enforce.

We are

all about education.

I'm

confused.

The Coast Guard auxiliary is the education arm of the active duty Coast Guard.

So we're local volunteers.

We're all about getting the message out, educating, helping people with safety inspections, no citations.

We'll go to your house and do a safety inspection on your boat and talk about all these things and answer all your questions.

We put on voting safety classes every spring because we want people to be educated out there.

So our active duty shipmates aren't as

busy.

So what are you doing when you're out there in the water actively doing?

it as far as you know something see something say something to them basically

right yeah we see something hey that that child should be in a life jacket and if somebody needs help a lot of times we help a lot of people the southern Bay of Green Bay we all know long tail it's a great place for everybody to go and sometimes the tides don't change but a boaters decision to put the boat on the beach might

Might have been a really good idea at the start and then if they can't get it off the beach at the end or or their engine dies or your your brand-new sailor and you forgot

There's plenty of enforcement out there though.

Yes I don't think there's not there's plenty of enforcement

and our boat will be out there right this weekend right helping out with the 4th of July making sure people stay out of the zone there

Want to do some live some music from yesterday's go you introduce this

you.

Well yesterday we had the honor of having a couple of great individuals in the studio.

We had Woody Mankowski, local musician, singer, songwriter, and of course the power tool horns.

All thanks to the Green Bay Press Times and John Kramer, and it was outstanding.

And this morning we're going to we're going to start the music off this morning and the Daddy D Productions live music series with Woody's rendition.

of America, the beautiful.

This is the Ray Charles version, and he knocked it out of the ballpark.

Oh, beautiful.

Who more than said their country love

Oh, beautiful, full spacious sky.

But I tell you wow

that is Ray Charles though, right?

I mean I've seen Ray Charles do this that yes, like perfect Yeah, how does that guy sing like

that in the

morning?

All

right, and just sitting right there.

There's

a real

without things But

it's you know, it's amazing how

you guys you really get into your music Yeah, I mean, it's it's from it's from the deep in your body.

So here's it good That's what I was thinking other Kevin.

It's in your soul.

Yeah, he's

not looking around.

He's just

He's in it.

He's in it.

He's just totally immersed in it.

That's a beautiful

thing.

And he's a very interesting person too.

I mean, he lives in North Hollywood and he just finishes tour from really the west coast to the east coast.

Yeah.

Right.

Amazing.

Florida, Dallas.

Wow.

And a super nice guy too.

Oh, a sweetheart.

All those guys are.

Hey, I don't want to sound old, but I almost talked to Mark Houston this morning.

I think I pulled up a groin.

You and me getting up yesterday after we kneeled for the picture.

What?

It seemed a little bit harder for Jim, but I love you guys

all.

Tough crowd.

John Gramer, thank you for what you do.

Kevin Burke or Kevin Osgood, please have a phenomenal weekend and keep everybody safe.

Thanks for what you guys do.

Thanks for having us.

Because again, this is something that people need to know how dangerous it is out in the water this weekend.

But if you just follow some basic rules, it's a great weekend.

Right.

Just stay alert and follow the basics.

You'll have a great time.

Common sense, right?

Common sense, stay alert, stay alive.

There you go.

Love it.

You guys are awesome.

U.S.

Coast Guard Auxiliary.

We'll be back with more of the Daddy D productions after

this.

There he is once again, Woody Mankowski, just phenomenal.

Got another Texer, get a head start on the holiday weekend tonight at Ledgestone Winery in Greenleaf.

That's a good place.

It's a great place.

Maricana, Maricana, Maricana band, then the Cooley boys hitting the stage from seven to 10.

A really great time from Terry.

I got texts there for Kramer Kramer, you rock brother.

I know you're not too bad, Brian Brick.

The Brickster Brickie was one of my all time great friends.

So Dennis, this weekend, I mean, you being an army veteran, and you're one of the most love our country kind of guys.

This has

to be a really cool time for you.

Love it.

it's like Christmas during the summertime in a way.

Yeah, because I mean, I love this country and, you know, without a doubt.

Yeah.

And despite what's going on,

you serve, you raise your right hand and said, you know, I'll defend it.

Heck yeah.

Yeah.

I think this is becoming one of my favorite holidays.

Sure.

Yeah.

But the thing is, we're talking about this off air, but I wish people would say Independence Day instead of have, you know, July 4th.

Happy.

You know, whatever, you know,

it's like,

no, man, it's our independence.

Let's focus on that.

I relate to seeing happy.

I was saying before, so to sing happy Fourth of July.

Happy 27th of September.

Yeah.

No, man.

It's

it's history.

But though, too, I mean, you understand the.

would it took to get this?

It's our country's independence.

Yeah, you

know,

let's talk about that instead of Happy Fourth of July.

Happy Effingland.

You know, I get passionate about that.

Every time I hear that, it's on the commercials, on TV, you know, just

come on.

I think that's why I like bringing out that

side.

Me too.

And I just when you read about, you know, and I get it, there were some older people, there are a lot of younger people and what what they did.

And you know,

But I like that you're such a passion about our history, our nation's history.

I mean, that's really cool.

You mentioned it before, you know, life, liberty.

They knew it.

Yeah, exactly.

You're fighting for your life and your country.

This wasn't

a tour duty.

Yeah, that's right.

This is life.

You're all in.

All in.

If

you're not, you did.

And they

knew

it.

And they knew

it.

You could lose your life here.

It's like, I know that.

Have you ever thought about doing...

Well, I don't know if you want to do the Ray Charles type thing like what he did there.

But I mean, have you ever thought about doing like a fourth of July type thing where you're not the character from the glam band?

You're Dennis Peters, the army veteran who, you know, loves our country and has a phenomenal voice.

Have you ever thought about doing something like that?

I think you'd be really great.

Yeah.

He said everything great, except for that phenomenal voice part.

I'm not so sure about that, but I appreciate you saying

that.

I guess I'll listen to the year two years running in the state of Wisconsin.

I

love I love singing songs about America.

That's

what I mean.

I do, you know.

And if there's a way, sure.

I

mean, I would buy a front row ticket to that.

Oh, man.

Who?

That'd be fantastic.

I'd love to do something like

that.

I hope you do.

Put it together.

I mean, seriously.

It's fun.

Yeah, I mean, I don't know.

I would agree.

I think I'm lacking

words, but that'd be awesome.

I think you would be phenomenal

with that.

I would, you know, the pride would be amazing.

I'd be honored to do something like that.

Next

year we're doing it.

I played

taps before, you know, and with the trumpet, you know, for military

funeral stuff.

You do?

I

have.

I have.

Because, yo, that's such a lost art.

It's

incredible.

I would do it again, you know, if need be, if somebody wanted me to.

That's really hard.

I was at an event.

I'm not going to say where, who, whatever.

And the guy just really struggled with it.

And you hate to say it, but it's, you know, it's, that's a really hard thing to play, right?

It drives me crazy.

It takes some skill, you know,

it's like anything else.

Well, that's a tough song to play.

But it drives me nuts when someone fought for this country and someone plays a recording of it.

I know.

brother, man.

Todd,

what do you got coming up buddy?

Well, yesterday, besides the great rendition of America, the beautiful from Woody Mankowski, we had the one and only Big Mouth and the Power Tool horns in the studio and they did a great version of the Star Spangled Banner.

So I feel like we should go out with that, right?

It's about two minutes.

It's about two minutes long.

So it's perfect.

We've got about a minute here to kind of wrap it up for the week and we'll go out with that.

Okay, Daddy D Productions.

Thanks for your support of this great thing that we do every week, every Friday.

every Friday.

But Dennis, this is always great having you here, buddy.

My pleasure to be

here.

And we appreciate everything you do like you can't believe.

And once again, we just want to say to everybody and all the veterans and I know it's not a veterans type day or whatever, but I hope you guys when when you see that flag going down the street with some, you know, club scout carrying it or something, you know that we're all still 100% behind you like you can't believe.

We'll be wearing our red, white and blue with our band tonight celebrating our country.

Yeah, stuff going on,

but we're all we're all

we're all together

tomorrow morning Just so you know mine on the mayor special edition of operation song that'll be a three-hour special tomorrow morning in place of what you guys typically

Awesome.

All right.

You know I look forward to hearing that myself.

Yeah, all right folks We're gonna send it out have yourselves an incredible Independence Day have a great safe weekend like John and Kevin or sin if you're on the water, please be careful.

Yep Dennis Peters.

You're the awesomeest guy we've ever

walk through this door.

Listen to this guy.

I know,

right?

He's a 20 bucks for you.

All right,

thank you.

We're off tomorrow.

See ya.

Kathryn Lake

You're listening to Civic Media.

You can tune into any of our live shows on any radio station across the state with the Civic Media app.

Find us in your phone's app store and listen anytime, anywhere.

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And here are your hosts, John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

Good morning,

John Maino

Todd.

What's the laughter for already?

John Maino

Well, first of all, I will no longer during any breaks or anything like that.

Yeah, I will no longer be sitting in this chair.

OK.

John Maino

This camera makes us look really wide.

And

I've had

John Maino

people say that.

Oh, I'm sure they're happy with you.

They think you do that on purpose.

I say.

Fiddling around here with the camera before we went on.

I know what you're doing.

You're doing that wide angle thing,

right?

They really make it.

John Maino

Yes.

I mean, I'm not gonna lie

neither does the camera

John Maino

Exactly Wow So remember I said I put 11 pounds over a week.

Oh, yeah, did you lose that?

John Maino

No, I'm still up Wow, I went from 210 to 214 in a weekend

that has

John Maino

stayed now

But that class reunion is like what

John Maino

eight days of not even Wednesday

Ooh, you

John Maino

gotta

hit eight pounds in four days

John Maino

five days.

Don't they have those like fat suits?

Yeah, whatever.

I'm

going to do it.

What'd you do in wrestling?

Didn't you do like?

Oh, yeah.

X lax,

baggies, rubber, baggies, rubber suits, right?

Yeah.

I don't think we had the

John Maino

budget for the rubber

suit.

Oh, and then you just take the last one.

Sweat would just

John Maino

pour off.

Yeah, I know.

So I got to try something, man.

Oh, boy.

John Maino

Yes, how you doing Todd?

I'm good.

What were you guys doing this morning early?

Oh my god.

Okay, so go ahead I just woke up really fell asleep early early woke up really early did nothing but red type thing But so you go ahead and tell everybody wait because you came okay You came in looking like you just got done working at the afternoon shift at the mill and one of that one of the paper machines went down and you had to

Change parts and

John Maino

sweaty and you're all whatever

change shirts because it got dirty right man.

So

John Maino

okay,

so I didn't sleep as well as I wanted to

So I'm leaving right after the show going to a resort, right?

And the restaurants, the lines are too long.

You have to wait too long.

I don't like eating at restaurants at this time of year because you have to wait.

So we're gonna cook food, grill food.

The problem at the resort, you have balconies, but you can't have grills on the balcony.

Like your

Kathryn Lake

place, right?

So you have to use like... All places are like that.

All places are like that.

So you have to use like a community grill.

And I talked to Donna, she goes, you know, there's a lot of people that are grilling out.

I don't want to wait, right?

And I can, I can just see, I'll get behind the guy that is like really slow, doesn't know how to grill.

And so I thought, you know what, um, heck with it, I'm going to grill the food

John Maino

here.

Back up just one second though.

Are you saying you would use a grill immediately after some other guy used to that grill?

I would

clean it, but he would do

John Maino

that surprise me, Todd.

What are you going to do?

I don't know.

I

well, I know one thing.

I know one

John Maino

thing.

I know what.

You're not doing it.

Yeah, yeah.

You're asking me what you do.

Can you know girls?

And

I've never done that.

Because

John Maino

remember we mentioned that about parks, going

to city

John Maino

parks.

And he

John Maino

says, I would never do

that.

I never have done that.

And I'm thinking, because we're going to be there for five days ago.

My son-in-law's coming.

There's nine of us.

And I thought, wait a minute, I don't think I like that.

It's kind of my idea.

And this isn't going to work.

And so anyway, the more I thought about it, the less I slept.

And I thought, you know what?

John Maino

So what is it?

So, what would you do?

I would start to read, you know, something that kind of loves you to sleep, something that's not, you know, would have spine tingler, maybe watch an old movie, try

to find an old

John Maino

thing, something like

that.

Skrull social media.

Yeah,

John Maino

yeah,

yeah.

I came up with two ideas.

Okay.

One was to go and buy a grill, my own.

Okay, get the charcoal three in the morning.

Well, no, it's just I would

Kathryn Lake

like right after the show,

okay?

Drive some place to Menards by a grill by the charcoal, but have my own so I don't have to deal with people which Which I'm shocked that you haven't done that before right?

Okay.

Go ahead.

That is a strategy, right?

The other thing I thought well anyway, but you would buy the charcoal instead of the gas, huh?

If I said I don't need a grill John, so I would buy it.

Okay.

Got it Get the charcoal use it and leave it for got it.

Okay.

All right the other thing I thought you know what?

The chickens there, the brats are there.

I'm just gonna get up and cook this stuff right now.

At what time?

Probably 10 to three.

So you're outside in your backyard?

At three o'clock.

John Maino

Grilling at three

o'clock.

Turn the light on.

I was like, it might have been a little bright for my neighbor, but he didn't call.

So I, yeah, that's what I did.

Milton comes down.

He's like, what are you doing?

I'm like, just go to sleep.

So I did that.

So now we're gonna have to heat it up, but it's gonna be, it's gonna work better.

It looks great.

barbecue sauce is on there.

So that's what I did.

I did that.

And I feel really, really good that I did that.

That was a good decision.

John Maino

So

just

John Maino

from three to one.

Well, I did different things.

I did even cook some vegetables on there too.

So yeah, I was done at, I don't know, four to five probably worked out great.

And then I made some pasta salads.

I was gonna do that anyway.

So you boiled some noodles and put shrimp in there.

John Maino

You know, typical stuff.

No?

I'd rather have people over, like, but this pasta salad, you would like that pasta salad I made

John Maino

today, that was good.

I think you could make some serious money doing that.

Yeah, I'd rather.

I

John Maino

don't know you just told me a story this morning about how much you love cash Anyway,

so that's yeah, that's what I did and I feel really good because I would be here this morning thinking like I had to go buy this grill or I'd be even more stressed out thinking I'm gonna get there and I'm gonna and everybody's gonna be around the grill and I'm gonna want to Cook it like you know for and I'm not gonna get on the grill till six.

You know I mean like that and it's gonna stress me out so

It's done, I'm in control, and I happen to like being in control.

So- Can't picture you stressed out with the family on a vacation?

Or needing to be in control?

No, neither one of those.

So it's done.

It's done.

I feel really good.

Good.

Good, good, good.

And my mom's coming today too, and I don't want to make her wait.

That's special.

You bet.

That's awesome.

That's great.

It's done.

And how about you, John?

What did you, same thing, or what?

I read.

I just picked up a, at least, the good.

We neither of us slept though.

John Maino

Why is it though?

And then I don't

know this

John Maino

literally the alarm went off it like I'm just starting to like dream a little bit and boom though, you know Why is is there something psychological about a person that?

Right before they have to get up all of a sudden They can sleep.

I know is that crazy?

It's like it's unbelievable But anyway, you know what it is a beautiful beautiful morning out there the day before what what more can you ask for than to be in

State of Wisconsin the UP wherever wherever right now

and at this time like I was talking to some friends over last night The this I'm really in we talked about the spirit.

I don't if you call it like it's more the Christmas spirit, but Yesterday our show was like I like you said that I think was one of the best shows we had in terms of the and we've had some great guests I'm not taking anything away from any of our guests, but Big Mouth Woody that was just

John Maino

I got so many comments from people you can't believe

it.

I'll say then it was even

It was topped off as equal last night the city the Green Bay City Band concert played their patriotic set and it was unbelievable perfect last night

John Maino

I actually went in what first time I've gone out a little bit when set by the water a little bit last night.

Yeah, since yeah This is great, man.

And then you know, we're talking about Favorite holidays and everybody probably has one.

I think this is it for me because I

John Maino

guess Thanksgiving minus Thanksgiving.

I really

love

John Maino

Thanksgiving.

That's a good one but

Yeah, I don't that would be close.

But

John Maino

I think it goes back to my college days.

Because the night before Thanksgiving was so much fun.

Yeah,

that's a good one.

And then we're, you know, both like you too, Alter Boys, it's kind of nice.

You don't have the math.

Easter was the worst.

I hate the

John Maino

month.

I'm sorry.

I know

John Maino

one of your priest friends listens.

And I don't mean anything.

No, I beg in religion a little bit sometimes.

I don't mean to.

But it's just I we go back to that era.

of, I mean, I got, when I learned how to be an altar boy, it was in Latin.

Yeah.

So, I mean, we go back to the hardcore.

Three hours of Friday.

And when you had, you were scheduled to, I mean, we'd be scheduled to do 530 mass all week long.

In the incense.

John Maino

And go to school all day.

And then every first Friday, every, every holiday, I mean, every, uh, saint's birthday.

You know what I mean?

Kathryn Lake

I

John Maino

mean,

Kathryn Lake

it

John Maino

was, it was such a big part of your life.

It was very, it's almost like the Amish sometimes when the kids get a chance to leave, it's like, well, I'm just going to step back a little bit.

Very, but ironically, I might step into being Amish.

That's right.

That's right.

I could see that.

But I even though.

That was very meaningful to go to those masses.

It was.

That meant a lot to me.

But I still, this, this is fun because.

There's just no pressure.

Somebody else does the fireworks.

Somebody,

Kathryn Lake

you

know, the cooking, I love doing the cooking.

I just, this is great.

I mean, I'm all into this holiday, so.

I too.

It's a little extended too.

It's like three days of nothing.

John Maino

Tell us your favorite ones.

Texas Hills.

We got it.

We got it.

Good morning, everybody, from Vicky.

Hi, Vicky.

She's awesome.

I figured Jim would be calmly folding his linens and brushing Milton when he can't sleep.

Right?

Yeah.

My feelings are hurt about your quote, best show ever, Michael.

I'm

sorry, Michael.

Michael's been on our show many times.

Well,

John Maino

not that.

Michael, we've done it at his place.

I know.

I don't think that what we did,

John Maino

the two we did for Michael were two of our all-time best shows.

The all-time

best shows.

John Maino

The On Locations.

Don't you agree, Todd?

Yeah, maybe.

Oh, yeah.

John Maino

They were phenomenal.

I know.

I didn't mean to best show.

I meant the most emotional show.

Oh,

yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's what I meant.

But you cried, remember, on your birthday or something when you got your dog picture?

That's right.

That was good.

That's right.

That's right.

That's right.

I mean, don't forget the anniversary show that was.

That was emotional.

That

John Maino

was great.

The day the ping-pong balls drop,

that's right.

Kids running around trying to get their sandwich.

From the helicopter?

Yeah.

All right, all right, all right.

Let's move on.

That would have been fun if we would have dropped actual sandwiches.

Oh,

John Maino

that would have been awesome.

Oh, that would have been really great.

You know what somebody texted me, Todd?

This was a few weeks back.

We're talking about that.

But they said, you know, you can probably get drones these days

that could do something like that.

Probably.

Yeah.

Oh, god.

Did you have to?

I'm sorry.

I'm just throwing it out there.

I know a couple drone people that okay.

Yeah, let me look into that All right

John Maino

got this one that dedication

gets

John Maino

you into the elder boy Hall of Fame John.

Thank you, Brian.

All right

John Maino

Yeah, today is stay out of the Sunday.

Huh, okay Yeah, I got the eye.

I mean, I'm telling

you well, why would they have that on the third of July?

John Maino

I know but it's it's

It's funny when you do step outside when you're not supposed to be in the Sun.

Yeah, like I'm not supposed to be in the Sun That's not as warm as you know, I haven't been like almost sequestered Wait for this thing to heal and it's like when you go out in that it's like whoa, but so you

haven't done a

John Maino

sun for what three weeks Since the 27th of May

so they talk about you know, you're I have with a

John Maino

band-aid on and

stuff.

Oh Talk about vitamin D. Do you feel less energy?

I mean the Sun is not

Bad.

The sun's good for you.

Sometimes, right?

John Maino

Yeah, I fight them in D.

Oh, really?

Then you put bread.

I don't

John Maino

think that's real healthy.

That's the only way I like clams.

You eat them where they're just like, oh, no, I'm thinking of

oysters.

John Maino

Never mind.

Never mind.

I'm thinking of oysters.

Olivia Munn 44 today.

She's why I was thinking of that was in that

show.

I really like

John Maino

her.

But the Jan Smithers, the cute Jan Smithers, when she wear a little sweater over a tight t-shirt and tight jeans, not to even pay attention to that.

But she, I still love Jan

Smithers.

She was Bailey on WKR, P and Cincinnati.

Oh, all right.

I know who she is.

I know

John Maino

who she

is.

Yeah, okay, I can see that.

Sure.

Yeah.

Cute personality.

Yeah, that'd be fun.

John Maino

Betty Buckley is 77.

She was the mom and it's eight and enough.

It is eight is enough.

That's right.

It wasn't

John Maino

she John Travolta's girlfriend at

one time.

She may have been, but she was also in Carrie.

She was the teacher.

She was the

John Maino

gym teacher teacher.

Good call.

Yeah.

Wow.

By the way, folks, later on, you're going to hear once again, Woody Mankowski with a rendition of God was America.

America, America, the beautiful.

That's mind boggling.

Quick break back after

this.

Hey,

Kathryn Lake

welcome back!

John Maino

Great song.

Yes.

Great song.

I know it's supposed to be a trucker Thursday, but it's going to be patriotic music.

John Maino

Fantastic.

Fantastic.

Welcome.

97.9 FM, WGBW 98.3, 96.5 FM, WISS, and of course the Civic Media app.

63 in Green Bay, 66 in Abton, 65 in Oshkosh, high in the lower 80s.

What a perfect, perfect day to head into the holiday weekend.

This is phenomenal.

It really is.

I wish that, you know, I know when they messed around with it.

Okay.

John Maino

I love it that the 4th of July is on a Friday.

Okay.

It should always be on a Friday.

So you can have that long weekend.

So when it's like a Tuesday and you want to go to fireworks, if it's not, you know, if you have a party, everybody has to go.

I have to work tomorrow.

I have to get up early.

I think it should always be.

Don't you?

No, okay.

No, we have, by the fact, we changed that when I got elected.

I know

John Maino

you did.

Fourth is on the fourth.

John Maino

That's why I

didn't

John Maino

vote for you that second

time.

Well, I think that is a reason.

We were nothing to do with it.

force on the fourth.

Okay.

No, I that that's like, not really honoring, honoring it.

No, I know.

But people say

John Maino

that you can't really have a real true party celebration, whatever.

It's on a Wednesday.

Right.

It's kind of tough.

Exactly.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I have to give the UK some credit because they do a lot of bank holidays over there.

There's at least one.

They call them bank holidays.

Bank bank bank.

So basically, it's kind of like

our our president's day or our and they do them on Mondays or Fridays so people get three day weekends perfect thank you well we do that with president's days yeah but nobody gets that that's only if you're in

government but otherwise

you don't get it yeah

well we don't get enough of cake but i i think we get plenty but there's compared to other countries americans oh man when you talk at any vacation yeah no when you talk to someone from

John Maino

germany oh yeah i'm down at a resort

in Mexico yeah there

John Maino

it's unbelievable but

There's a couple of countries.

I want it's like Denmark or somebody where they're they're a four-day week now.

It's like it's a four-day work week

What those are economy John

John Maino

great phenomenal the grease grease Greasy, I don't know but not everything's

about the economy Yeah, the

John Maino

Danes are the healthiest people on the face of the earth.

They're the happiest people

I'm just telling you, that's what they are.

When's the last time you saw an angry Dane?

John,

I wouldn't know if I saw one.

John Maino

Oh yeah, you don't want to pee them off.

Trust me, I've seen them.

I'm just saying, I think it's a great thing.

I really do.

Nothing like a great Dane.

John Maino

I will say something else though that

I know where you're going with that.

There is nothing like a day in the world

or a

John Maino

dog.

Great.

Oh, great.

Great

John Maino

games.

But anyway, you know what I, you know what I. OK, let me just say something else that other countries do that everybody that has done it has said it's a really great thing.

Some sort of service for a year.

Like in Norway,

I'm all in on that.

They all

John Maino

go through two years.

It's almost like being in the reserves.

You go through boot camp for like

two months or

John Maino

something.

And you learn all

those

John Maino

Israel.

Then if they call you up.

Yeah, exactly.

We had a bunch of

Kathryn Lake

young ladies

John Maino

when we did the golf tournament on a night or at Thornberry a few years back.

And these girls.

I mean, I shouldn't call them girls.

Young 20s.

OK.

They were selling and I actually bought one they were selling those things that a lot of golfers use where you put them in the little sticky pads, then they vibrate You know where they hit you in the Lord Lumber

ten tens unit.

Is that what it is?

Yeah, yeah, yeah,

John Maino

yeah, I loaned it to Duke right and I never got it back by the way Call Peg I'll get her on the line, but

Hey, what are you guys?

Well, you know where we got to go back for service next week.

Oh, yeah, I thought service.

I thought some, you know, religious.

She don't know where every couple of years or something we do a month or two of blah blah blah.

And they were sort of, they sort of like very, very attractive young girls.

Okay.

And it's like, oh, we love it.

We absolutely, that's, we look forward to it.

We love it.

We had that other kid play basketball at Green Bay from Norway.

He's, oh my God, it's the best thing ever.

So everybody that I know that has done it, has really enjoyed

it.

You talk about that friend of yours that was here, her daughter came on here, went in for two years, thought it was the best thing she did right after high school.

Well, it's not her,

John Maino

but she

loves it.

She thought it was the best decision she ever made.

You just learn so much about people's skills, management skills, even though it's not specifically the career.

I think it's great.

Other countries do it.

That is something I wouldn't mind adapting.

Some of the case there's there's things we can learn from other countries.

I think we do it better.

I think overall We do it better than anybody else.

John Maino

Okay, but let me do okay I'm not gonna argue with you about economy and things like that.

I'm not I'd say be like you argue about quarterbacks from the 60s Okay,

okay, so

John Maino

I'm giving you that fair, but what I'm saying is

Okay, with the four-day workweek, is your economy?

Well, how about this?

They just hire more people then, so your economy's real good because you need more people to fill all those other days.

I'm not.

Thank you, Ty.

And more time for leisure that you can actually go do something.

Absolutely.

I don't know.

When did I say I'm not opposed to the four-day workweek of 10 hours a day?

Well, you said, you said, how's your

economy?

So that, yeah.

Yeah, if it's eight hours,

you'll

rip the days.

Yeah, I don't know the day's economy.

I know

I do the problem is though, too We have a lot of people working five days a week, but they're working 50 hours They're working 10 hours those days.

So it's like, yeah, come on, right,

John Maino

right?

It's almost like that.

I just read some of that stuff I know a lot of it's BS.

We just read some but it's like, you know, think about this

you work, you know, how many hours a day for four hours off, you work, how many hours for, and another thing, you know, what they're talking about, and this hit me, because I'm starting to get up there a little bit age-wise, I'll

be honest with you.

John Maino

Are you?

Yeah, I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm gonna just lay it out there, I'm gonna be honest.

And...

I know I don't look it.

But anyway, um, at least you

don't look like

John Maino

the lunch

lady.

Come on, stop it.

I can say that.

Turn his mic up.

Turn his mic up.

Turn his mic up.

No, no, no.

John, you're the one who showed me.

Turn his mic up.

No, Todd, turn his mic up.

And he showed me the planning committee.

And it was a picture of, what, nine people?

Maybe it's more than that, 12 people.

And I'm like, John, what's the lunch lady doing in that picture?

One person aged a little bit.

No, no, they're all.

No, they did.

It looked like that.

And then I said, well, was this guy your teacher?

And it wasn't just they looked old.

Their hairstyle was old.

Quick

break, back that bridge, man.

Wow.

At least you look young.

Wow.

John Maino

Disco mute.

I did some disco dancing here yesterday, Lisa.

A lot of people said, oh

my God, that was so

John Maino

hot.

Painful.

John Maino

They said it was hot.

Hey, Lisa.

Hi, Lisa.

Lisa Hale

Yes.

Hello.

How are

you?

Big

Lisa Hale

plans?

We're good.

We are excited about the fourth.

You have plans?

We are the fun weekend coming up.

Yep.

Four

Lisa Hale

day

work week.

Lisa Hale

I actually have a four day weekend.

I'm going to be off Friday and Monday.

And you know what I'm going to do?

It's

John Maino

too

Lisa Hale

long.

I'm going to sleep.

John Maino

Well.

If you get up at 3 o'clock, you go and grill like Jim does.

Sleeps overrated.

I still

John Maino

can't believe you're outside with the lights on grilling at 3 in the morning.

You know your neighbors were hearing

that.

Nah, there's a little space there.

I don't.

Yeah, well, I had to get in.

Whatever.

Lisa Hale

Hi, Lisa Hale.

If you weren't hearing the grilling, they were definitely smelling it.

Could you imagine waking up first thing in the morning and smelling burgers and everything grilling?

John Maino

Absolutely.

Yes, that's what happened.

It did smell good.

I will say that.

How's the weather in beautiful downtown?

Oh, she got straight now.

Lisa Hale

Absolutely gorgeous.

I mean, it is sincerely gorgeous over here.

It is.

Awesome.

The next four days, although I did see that might might rain Saturday tomorrow night.

Every forecast has a little bit of rain in it in every single

John Maino

one.

But anyway, what do you got going on, Lisa?

What's going on with your new Wisco?

Lisa Hale

Well, new Wisco weekend this weekend is really a great one.

We've got a kind of a.

combined theme happening here.

We're talking a lot about the 4th of July because it is the 4th of July weekend.

And so we've got stories on PTSD and fireworks and fireworks safety and stuff like that.

But we also are our code theme is rock and roll because Monday, June 7th is National Rock and Roll Day.

John Maino

I did

Lisa Hale

not know that.

Yes, Terry Barr has a great feature story on that that will start the issue off with.

And we've got lots of little tidbits all the way through it.

Our musical guest is the Bodines.

Do you remember the

Bodines?

Oh my God.

John Maino

Absolutely.

Lisa Hale

I absolutely love close to the experience.

The

John Maino

entire 90s were the Bodines.

Absolutely.

Lisa Hale

I'm telling you.

I'm telling you.

So yeah, we feature them.

And then our cover story.

this week is a little bit off topic, but it's something that's very important.

And it's an interview that our Melissa K did with Feeding America on just how those federal cuts are going to affect food insecurity here in Wisconsin.

So that's a very good interview with Melissa K as our cover story.

John Maino

Okay, I've asked this before and I don't mean to be uncomfortable here, but how come you never asked me to do a story for New Whiskey Weekend?

Lisa Hale

You were a cover story a couple of weeks ago.

You know that but I

wasn't he also the centerfold that way.

Yeah,

John Maino

right?

And

John Maino

if we didn't and Did writings went way, right?

That's we didn't air either one.

No,

John Maino

I want to be a reporter would be the person doing the the questioning type thing

Lisa Hale

You can do that if you if you want to put together an interview.

Yeah needs to be 13 and a half seconds

13 and a half.

That would be it for

John.

13

Lisa Hale

and a half minutes is the length of the interview.

That's all you have for an interview or you can create a story for me.

That's about say three minutes, a three minute package.

Anytime you just create something and get it to me.

John Maino

You got to do me one favor first though, because I'm not going to be the guy to try to do it.

Lisa Hale

What's that?

John Maino

Make sure Todd will stick around long enough to ride the board.

Lisa Hale

You go have to talk to Todd about that.

That's the hard part.

I cannot tell him to do anything.

John Maino

Join our club.

Lisa, join our club.

I think Lisa is the only one who realizes in this whole mess of Northeast Wisconsin that I am the boss.

Thank you, Lisa.

Thank you.

I was thinking

John Maino

of both of you guys the other day where they're doing the heat index thing and Jackson,

Mississippi was like

John Maino

107 because there's

like a hundred and then the humidity.

I thought that has to be just brutally miserable.

Jackson, Mississippi at that hot at that heat.

Lisa Hale

Jackson, Mississippi itself is brutally when

we were working at Y 101.

Lisa, I was my first gig down in the south, right?

I'd been in Toledo, Ohio and then moved down there and met Lisa, which is a whole.

We could do a whole show on a

Lisa Hale

whole show on that.

But

I got out of the car and I left my chapstick in the front.

Okay, and I got in and I go, oh, I better go get that.

Got out there.

The whole thing had melted all over everything.

Like, and I was literally in the building 30 seconds.

Oh, yeah.

In

John Maino

Tucson, actually in Tucson and in Phoenix, um, I didn't have, you know, a lot of those people that, uh, you could buy these things, reflective things to

put your

John Maino

windshield so they didn't, and

If you didn't, I mean, there were times I would have to have like paper towels or something holding the steering wheel.

Yeah, that's plastic would get so hot.

It was mind boggling.

And then the dashboard would like crack.

Oh, yeah, all the time.

That would happen.

I mean, we talk about crazy things, but that heat is inside of it.

And that's what I hate to say.

But you know, with people, if they're tragically kids or or animals or something, no idea how hot a car can get with those windows.

Lisa Hale

Oh, yeah.

Even if it's say 75 degrees out.

And that's, you know, a nice temperature when it's 75, I'm happy.

It will be 90 degrees in your car or hotter.

So that's something that people really need to remember just because the outside temperature is lovely.

The inside temperature of a car is brutal.

I also noticed Lisa living down there that everybody had just a little bit of twang to their smell

Lisa Hale

all the

time.

Well, yeah, because you sweat all the time.

So it's not, you know, up here, people can smell fresh.

Maybe in a hot day, you get a little bit of that with no everybody down there had a little bit of something.

John Maino

Jim's got working today.

Well, he

John Maino

smells like

he's grill after I grilled first.

I did not think yeah, whatever.

Maybe a little

bit.

It's okay.

Just

making me hungry.

What

are you doing this weekend for the holiday, Lisa?

But

Lisa Hale

no Friday, Friday, I'm going to go.

Here in Oshkosh, they've got at Menominee Park.

They're doing the fireworks celebration and

on the fourth.

Yep.

Lisa Hale

On the fourth.

Yes.

If it rains, it'll move to Saturday.

Hey, Jim,

John Maino

just give

Lisa Hale

me those.

I like the fourth.

I like the fourth.

Damn it.

But I'm going because of the food trucks.

Yeah.

Seriously, we're going to we're going to have about 20 food trucks in Oshkosh Ground Menominee Park.

on Friday.

So I'm going to go and I'm going to sample me some yummy food.

Nice.

You can tell.

I mean, look at me.

Well, you know,

John Maino

correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like after nosh gosh, take food trucks a little more serious than around here.

I mean, so many times when Todd decided

when you tell us about what you did.

It's like, I went to so-and-so and Reggie's food truck was there

or

John Maino

so-and-so's food truck was there.

That's like a big thing in Oshkosh and Appleton,

isn't it?

It's almost like showing up.

And Jim, you kind of talked about this, like having an ethnic area where you can try a little bit of this.

I mean, there's Indian food trucks.

There's Thai food trucks.

There's, you know, Haitian food trucks.

That's all it wants, right?

Yeah, and you can

still get the old Bratton burger if you want

to.

We had some politics with food truck rallies, maybe because we have more municipalities.

We just, I just remember,

struggling with the colony to do.

Those are great.

Is the

John Maino

Tarleton trying to do that a little bit?

He is.

Okay.

He is.

But there was some municipal things going on.

And it's kind of like my music.

They just kind of got ahead of us.

We're all trying to catch up.

Oshkosh has done some things and we're trying to catch up.

Um, but yet we're the largest community and I don't

Kathryn Lake

know, we don't

do more political truck rallies.

I mean, look at what Nashville does.

My God, I just get thousands.

I mean, you just bounce

John Maino

from one to one

and

John Maino

God bless the brick and mortars and how hard it is to struggle

with

John Maino

nothing against them whatsoever.

But for festival type things like

that,

John Maino

to be able to bounce from one to one

and we

John Maino

don't have to sit and wait or whatever.

And some people have both.

John Maino

Yeah,

exactly.

So yeah, it sounds

John Maino

like fun.

Is it one

John Maino

theme or is it just.

Lisa Hale

Oh, no, it's not one thing.

There are so many different.

I mean, there's there's the agro food truck.

There's Caribbean taste.

There's busted spuds.

There's, I believe the Indian food trucks going to be out there.

Polora Cafe is going to be out there.

I mean, so many food trucks.

Okay, we

John Maino

were talking about this yesterday, though.

So for burgers, Jim and I both agreed that

hamburgers are you got to have cheese and it's got to be melted on there and you don't need a whole bunch of other things and I that's the only thing he and I agree on what about yourself how do you like your burgers

Lisa Hale

okay when it comes to a hamburger I like it medium rare

And I do like lettuce, tomato, and onion.

If it does not have onion, it is not a good hamburger to me.

John Maino

I agree with you on that.

I'll take the onion on mine.

I do too.

Fried or raw.

Raw.

Lisa Hale

Raw.

Definitely raw.

John Maino

Yeah.

Yeah.

I can take or leave cheese.

Lisa Hale

Oh, really?

Wow.

OK.

Sorry Lisa,

nice to know you.

I went to a, I just told these guys yesterday that I went to it, it was kind of a buffet where you kind of get your hamburger or the bun and you go down and they didn't have cheese and I just kind of set it aside.

Lisa Hale

I mean, cheese is great.

It's great.

But if it's if it's an American cheese slice, it's like, OK, fine.

But I mean, if it's

John Maino

because I I've sent back hamburgers at fast food places

Kathryn Lake

because

John Maino

because they take that.

You know where it was bad at

Kathryn Lake

the

John Maino

burger king in is it Mischekot?

You know that one if the gas station is attached to the gas station or Maribel, one of those twice that happened to me.

I get my cheeseburger.

And I go out to the car.

I

want to see the manager.

John Maino

And the cheese is cold.

Yeah.

And when you think of a Burger King attached to a gas station, you think that they would have better cheese choices than a cold slice of cheese, right?

Lisa Hale

Yeah.

Well, I drive a little

John Maino

further

and find a better place.

I don't

John Maino

know, John.

You want to know what the greatest combination, when I lived in Flint, Michigan, the greatest combination of a place you go to, there was a laundry mat connected with a baby ribs joint.

And those baby ribs, you put your clothes in the thing and you go over and you have your baby ribs.

Oh, I love a good baby rib.

I mean, those combinations are, you know, you need to do that.

Nancy just texted in, by the way.

John Maino

Lisa Hale, I am here for you.

I love, love, love cheese, but I prefer my hamburger without it.

Thanks, Nancy.

Lisa Hale

Nancy it's just I love cheese, but it doesn't All it does is add a little bit of um

Greatness.

Greatness.

Right.

Richness.

Oh, yeah.

Okay, at

John Maino

least I can taste it.

So today at 915, I'm going to be sitting at a great little breakfast place here called Delilah's.

And I'm going to have the same thing I've ordered ever since the first time I had it.

It's not the all the all pork thing.

My stomach got a little something from that all pork.

It was it was it was an all pork.

It was

John Maino

I thought it was all pork.

Now it's like, now it's all protein, but it was just fried pork.

It was, it was, I, you didn't like it, but it was.

Yeah.

So

John Maino

what are you going to get?

Pimento cheese omelet.

Yeah.

Pimento cheese.

I'd

John Maino

never tasted it before that.

Yeah,

John Maino

that's good.

Oh, have you ever had that?

Lisa Hale

Because that's a southern.

I tasted Pimento cheese before.

No.

I've had everything

Lisa Hale

on that menu.

Oh my God.

Look, I lived in the south and Pimento cheese sandwiches are a staple.

Well, I know

John Maino

at the Masters, that's the big thing at Augusta, Georgia, Pimento cheese.

I don't think you can even buy it around here.

Sure you can.

Pimento's cheese bread stuff.

John Maino

Julian Dunn bought some up in like Dork County, but I don't know if

they're around here.

Kraft actually makes them in little jars.

Do they really?

John Maino

Yeah, they do.

What's a good cheese shop around here?

Is there one?

Oh, there's

Lisa Hale

so

John Maino

many.

Lisa Hale

I mean,

John Maino

there's

so many.

I mean, there's so

John Maino

many.

Lisa Hale

I

John Maino

mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so many.

I mean, there's so

You can't bite where like all the cheeses are you got to go find they have their

own little Specialty cheese.

Yeah, that's

what I'm looking for.

You know

John Maino

what I was just pointing out I went to fessily because I'm on a new diet, okay, right?

That's

not working because you're up 14 pounds, but I'm

John Maino

up four pounds Todd.

Okay

11 plus

John Maino

three.

Okay.

I'm on new diet.

Listen to me.

Listen to me.

It's so healthy.

It's mind-boggling Okay, I got frozen strawberries fresh frozen strawberries mixed with protein.

That's that doesn't make sense fresh

John Maino

frozen

Mixed with protein powder and tang and it's a man a little bit of yogurt Greek yogurt unflavored.

It's phenomenal.

It's so healthy for you But my sandwiches get this Lisa.

You love this.

It's it's sliced colorabi.

Okay, it's good.

Yes sliced colorabi with sliced onions Okay, a piece of cheese light mayo in a lettuce

wrap

All right, guys, new Wiska weekend coming up this weekend, Saturday at 8 Sunday at 11 on WGV double.

We love you.

You're

John Maino

awesome.

Have fun this weekend.

Have a great, great weekend.

Lots to

John Maino

celebrate.

You bet.

Lots to celebrate.

Well, you guys, they're a great break.

Back in.

Kathryn Lake

You're listening to Civic Media.

John Maino

Got some text here, uh, another word for the bingo cart, Todd.

Mind boggling.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

John Maino

Yeah.

I got another one here, John.

That Burger King in Maribel is now a family restaurant and is very good food.

Like I was saying.

Imagine.

How can

John Maino

you screw up a Burger King?

And they did.

By the way, what comes to mind when you say picnic hamburgers, old fashioned Fireman's Park picnic burgers?

Scotty.

You're right.

Old.

So is that?

The old.

Fireman's Park type of burger.

Oh, yeah, okay.

It's like almost a smash burger.

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah, let's make a smash burgers Mark Houston.

Implify.

Sports matters.

How you doing, buddy?

Good.

How are you guys?

Good.

Excited.

John Maino

Weekend.

Yeah.

That's very funny what you brought in to show me.

Well, thank you.

Thank you to Charlie.

I love it.

I love it.

All

John Maino

right.

No, I was just saying, okay, we're going to talk about high school sports, physicals, right?

In our day, that's all you did was turn your head and coughed.

Yep.

I don't know anybody that ever flunked their high school physical.

Didn't matter.

That's all the doctors.

They're just next cough, next cough, cough, cough.

But I did have a serious sports injury that I told you about.

Yep.

And they had to use a hyperthermic hyperdermic needle like the size when they inject horses with steroids or whatever they do.

Okay.

That's what they used on me.

So I'm just saying that ended your career.

All right, stymied it.

Didn't end, but, you know, it was a roadblock.

It was over before it began.

All

John Maino

right.

Who knows what I could have been.

Right.

I could have

been a Heisman candidate.

Could have been a contender.

Exactly.

You could have been drafted in the NFL draft.

Not even a question about that.

There's a lot of five, eight and a half

John Maino

quarterbacks

up.

John Maino

How

you doing, Mark?

Great.

Great.

Are you

a big Fourth of July like you?

Camped you is that is it a thing for your family?

You had what three of you, right?

Yeah, there's three of us the play heard you guys talking yet.

We were we talked about going to I'll say it.

I think it's the dream beach of all of Wisconsin to the show to the show I think it's one of them get around Green Bay or door colony.

Sure.

Yep.

I'm just telling you that I have friends who told me about this beach Thank You Terry and Sue Beck many

I think it's the biggest thing in Wisconsin.

Oh 15 years ago, right?

That beach is one of the best beaches to go to in Wisconsin.

And even I think the biggest thing, even if you go there today.

And it could be it'll be cooler.

You know it'll be cooler.

Yeah, but you love it when it's 98 here.

You know where there it's 85.

They market that as a cool spot in Wisconsin.

But even if the water is cold and it can be.

if you go there early enough.

Depending on the wind.

But you can have a great day on the beach.

Yep.

You guys just talk about food trucks.

They got food trucks.

They got concessions.

They got bathrooms.

Very reasonably priced.

Yeah.

Everything.

And there's music on some nights.

John Maino

And again, just put in a plug for another place.

That's one of my favorite places is Port Sandy Bay, just down the road from there.

Phenomenal pizza, phenomenal fish.

And that pizza's...

been the same since we've been in high school.

They are consistent.

That is great, great pizza.

And you can get it, you can eat there, which is great, great service, but it's fun to take it to go

to.

And I'm not calling you guys old, but if that's when, that's how long it's gone, it must say something about what it is.

Absolutely.

You know, I mean, if they've held that tradition, man, why not go to it?

And you know, I think so many times we go to the, we have to, so it goes back to your question, Jim, it just break it out this weekend.

If you guys are listening on this radio,

run down there for a day.

You know, I mean, you got three days.

Now, that's what my wife just said this morning.

Oh, maybe some rain, but every day is probably rain.

Every

John Maino

day.

Yeah.

But I'll tell you what, Two Rivers has a couple of other places.

Waverly Beach.

Waverly is good.

Waverly is great pizza.

And then a place I've never gone and I can't believe I have it because you know why?

Because we always eat and then you're so full.

But that ice cream parlor in that building, that's like 150 years old.

Right, the museum.

Yeah.

That's a great ice cream.

Their fireworks are good for a little $12,000.

Yeah.

Municipality.

Yeah, two rivers are fun.

And I've only spent my whole childhood there.

But that's just a great little community.

I love it.

I mean, that's...

John Maino

And the greatest place for fireworks, you'll ever find, you sit in a baseball stadium that's built in, like, again, 1890 or something, where the bleachers are built into the hill.

Yep.

I just had a friend from my home.

So I'm home.

My home town is Janesville, Southern Wisconsin.

And a friend of mine, I don't even know why he was up here a couple weeks ago.

And they pulled in at like 9 30 at night into two rivers and his family's big baseball fans.

And they're like, what is going on here at 9 30 on a Friday night?

You know, and they were he had a post.

John Maino

OK, I'm going to say one thing, though, within a three hour drive of right at three and a half hour drive of where we are right here right now, there is one beach that I think is literally does rival any of the beaches in the United States.

And

John Maino

that's it.

No, it's a train.

Unbelievable beach haven't heard of that one.

Yeah,

John Maino

that would be a great road trip

for you guys But it you know again, it's like I said I think there's so many people who have lived in Green Bay or Oshkosh Appleton

and haven't made that hour drive right in the shoulder.

So it's just, I love the plug.

But you know

John Maino

what?

I think two reverse people are like, don't tell anybody.

And

it's amazing.

I mean, I still remember we had friends.

It was back when it was like 98 one year.

We're all sitting here on July 3rd going, what are we all going to do?

And it's like, whole bunch just went over there and it was just, you know, three, four hours.

You know, grab, grab, even if you want to grab a sub and eat, I mean, it's just, you do have to get there early.

Otherwise you'll be walking.

But that's, you don't have to go on the 4th of July, but you just go during the summer and it's pretty quiet during the summer.

I mean, if you go on a Tuesday.

I'll tell you what

John Maino

else, it's great though.

In the fall when they have the big storms, wow, is that a great place to sit and watch those storms roll in.

I bet.

John Maino

I mean, they come in there like you can't believe.

I think they used to do a kite festival there.

They did.

They did.

That was a lot of fun.

Yeah, that was the great thing.

They were almost known for that for a while.

Yeah, they were.

That was a big deal.

The other thing that I think, you know,

put on your list for a family thing with the three of you guys.

A lot of families is that Man Talk to Luddington.

That's a fun thing.

Oh, the Badger.

Yeah, the Badger.

You did that.

No, we've talked about it.

OK.

That's

John Maino

the thing that's fun to just go by where they dock.

Exactly.

That's fun to

John Maino

watch

it.

But that is just a really cool thing.

And then, you know, being Mr. Dad, we did that when we were kids and we had a million of us.

But then my dad always said, when you can't see land, then you throw a penny over and make a wish.

So we got pennies in there.

John Maino

I got to say that correctly.

Hey,

John Maino

thank you very much.

Welcome back.

Just a beautiful morning out there.

63 in Green Bay, 66 in Alton, 65 in Oshkosh, mostly sunny high in the lower 80s today.

Got text here on the docket for Saturday, Nishoto Beach and Port Sandy Bay for Pizza.

Terry, you'll enjoy Terry.

I don't think he's the only one doing that.

No, I think we're some other people that way.

As a matter of fact,

our guest is doing that.

Yeah, Mark Houston.

John Maino

Implified by Bella and Health Sports Medicine.

I think we sent quite a few people going into two rivers this weekend.

It's awesome.

I mean and why not it's cool.

It's beautiful beach.

Get there early.

Yeah.

Check out it in two or get there later and check out it.

You know I

John Maino

was telling Jim this we're there one day and this guy gets out with these little kids and I thought what's wrong with this guy.

He digs this huge hole then takes

20 30, I don't know how many buckets of water from the lake and pours it in so it's like he made a beach swimming pool for the

kids

John Maino

I didn't quite get that.

Yeah.

Have you ever seen that before?

That's a lot of work.

I know right?

Yeah, that's I

John Maino

Don't know.

It's like can't

you just

John Maino

keep them?

You know whatever can't they

play

John Maino

in the beach

right?

Exactly.

I will also say that So it we used to do I think we've probably done it five six times.

We've rented an RV

And the first RV trip we did was the campsite just north of Nishota Beach.

Trying to think, is it Point Beach?

That's where it's Port Sandy Beach.

Okay, so we went there and it was, their beach was gone.

The water levels went up and undestroyed their dock.

So we said, let's go down back to Nishota.

So we have an RV.

We parked it right along the road.

As I said, it's a

John Maino

real narrow road

there.

But parked, got a spot and

It was the best where you could go in the water, sand, come back, shower.

That's cool.

And head home.

And yeah, I was like, man, that was nice.

John Maino

You know, it's kind of cool, because I hope to do van life for a couple of years.

OK.

And what was

that?

John Maino

Gas

station bathrooms.

No,

John Maino

no,

no,

John Maino

no, no, no.

Here's what I'm

saying.

OK, but.

No.

Drive around with the toilet in the back.

One producer laughing, one

host.

May I

finish?

May I finish?

So.

You work your whole life to drive around.

OK.

Well, OK.

John, finish

John Maino

him.

But I don't have confidence in myself that I wouldn't knock stuff over driving a big RV.

And I don't back up good.

And I don't go corners.

OK.

So

that's good.

I'm glad to hear that.

John Maino

What I'm saying is they're making small ones now with all the amenities of the big ones.

Have you seen some of those small RVs now?

Half the size of a big RV?

If you got, if you got money, I think you can get what you want.

Are they expensive?

What are they?

Okay.

John Maino

But

they got

John Maino

a tiny home, right?

No, yeah.

No, no, no, but here's the deal.

Can't

John Maino

stand up.

They got hydraulics in these things where the bedroom is up above now and everything.

That's awesome.

Or I'd like to get one of those things, one of those vans we can drive and you can you can you pitch a tent on top of the van.

That's what I was thinking.

And you know, I know.

Right now, Todd's rolling his eyes.

This is what would

happen.

What's going to happen to that guy?

Remember that guy I told you about?

He slept on top, and then he came down to go to the bathroom.

What happened to him?

I

don't know.

What guy?

I told you that guy.

No, I

John Maino

don't.

You never told me the guy.

Yeah, but this is what happened.

I'm trying to remember that.

You don't remember that?

No.

The tent would go up for John.

John would say, I'm going to go down the next destination.

He'd forget to bring that tent down.

John Maino

That's possible.

But you know what my dream is?

I told you that.

Spent one year going from one college football game to the next.

Just just all the way through

like start

John Maino

off at University of Michigan, maybe then I really want to go to like West Point and then go down to go to like Alabama,

LSU, SC, SC, SC.

John Maino

That's my

dream to spend one

John Maino

six months

just

John Maino

traveling

from

John Maino

high school from college football to college football.

That would be fun.

Yeah, I

can see you doing that.

Yeah, your your Saturdays.

Well, your Sundays are going to be tough.

You'll be recovering on your son.

John Maino

I'll just recover.

Yeah,

but but

John Maino

even I'd like

you know

John Maino

what I'd like to do I'd like to go to like the Todd Talks with high school football in Georgia They get like

a thousand people.

John Maino

Correct.

I'd like to throw the Friday nights I'd love to go to a high school game

and some of those said if you could tie those things together on what you do on a Monday Tuesday and Yeah, you could really have a you could I think you can have an interesting

John Maino

right, you know, you could probably be in some well, okay Let's say Georgia.

Okay.

I mean they said that's quite the experience at the University of Georgia Friday night at one of these unbelievable high school football places

Saturday University of Georgia Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons against somebody.

I'm with Vinnie.

What's Vinnie say?

John Maino

Johnny just buy the damn plane tickets Spark I says hi, I'm John mine.

I live in a van down by the river, but it's a very cool van with it with the raised thing, you know, I think that I don't know that

could be fun Johnny and hydraulics don't go together for me.

There'd be some sort of bad injury John, but there's manuals.

Yeah

Well,

you know,

you'd see the country and

yeah, that

we we did say we did say though John even said it himself What oh, you know driving larger vehicle?

No, no, that'd be changing lanes back enough.

No

John Maino

freeway.

Yeah, the ones we would rented our 25 31 Well, we're a little big Johnny.

Let's

John Maino

go.

We'll take my 38.

Yeah

Tori is he knows what he's doing

John Maino

again You know what I thought about that because I actually sold out when I was in real estate

uh, these people in, in Manitowoc moved over from Minnesota here.

Okay.

And, um, they, I was waiting for them and they, they said, okay, we're, we got the big RV.

We're, we're in wherever we'll be there by such, such come there and they, they pull in and stuff.

It's like, pardon.

I said, how did it go?

The guy goes, good.

And the guy said, I got to run to the men's room.

She goes, oh my God, we knocked over three mailboxes in a roadside.

But a small little.

That would be

fun.

John Maino

Those aren't hard to drive.

16 feet down.

Yeah, 12 feet.

That'd be nice.

John Maino

Todd, the company should buy me one.

That

would be, that could be fun.

I

could see you

doing

that.

Put that in the budget for 2026.

But I think, is it, you can have the bathroom in there.

Yes.

See, you gotta clean that out though.

John Maino

Well, they got those new ones though, where they're all organic.

All organic.

What does that mean?

John Maino

I don't

even know what

John Maino

that

means.

Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching.

John Maino

Okay.

Okay.

I'll be honest with you.

To pee.

I just pull over.

Yeah.

John Maino

I've thought everybody's done that where you pretend like you're getting some out of the size of the car.

This

is what I was just getting

John Maino

to.

Everybody's done

that.

Some guy did that.

He got eaten by a lion.

Where?

What?

He did.

He got he was up on top sleeping and he went

John Maino

to

that.

I'm not going to do a safari.

Well, just don't get eaten by a line.

John Maino

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

John Maino

Dangerous.

You could get mugged.

You could get mugged.

You

could get mugged.

I'm very dangerous.

John Maino

I'm not going to get mugged.

You're in a hotel.

You're not going to get mugged.

John Maino

Okay.

Trust me.

I would have my 38 with me.

Yeah, you would.

So I would.

Not that I want to interrupt too much, but you know, the story John was talking about earlier, how the maintenance guy from the building went in his apartment and said, still thinking about getting a cleaning woman.

Can you imagine what his camper would be like?

Right.

There you go.

We have to call social service.

Now we need two vans go because we have one van that's going down the road with John.

Second van is going to follow John.

This could be like Big Ten

TV.

It would be

John Maino

a whole new me.

I don't know that.

There's something about this that could work for you.

John Maino

I know

because it's gonna check some pretty good box absolutely the games and

John Maino

I bet you could find places to sleep in all those college towns You know college weekend type thing.

You know parking lots Walmart.

That's what I mean.

Yeah Yeah, I could see you doing that me to writing the story.

Yeah, posting it doing podcasts from the road Absolutely doing a blog the whole thing.

John Maino

There'll probably be some incidents in butte modern channel.

Yeah

John,

John Maino

how

come you keep going back to you like Charles Kroot?

Why do you keep going back to this

John Maino

place?

We both talked about how Charles Kroot was like, we just loved his stories and he inspired me.

I mean, I'm not even joking about this.

Charles Kroot was part of my inspiration about doing really like normal people, you know.

Small town this guy who normally the networks would never do but you know this guy who's done whatever for 72 years in the back of his shop hand forging Donkey shoes or you know, I mean something like that Okay, my favorite place is a little cabin in the picturesque Rocky Mountains of Montana

with a small stream cascading and I listened to the sound of the water, fresh water that you can drink right from the stream cascading over the rocks.

You go there all the time.

It's like, okay, okay, you've been there, but you keep going there.

It's like, the hell's

John Maino

up there?

Turns out he had a little something, something on the side up there at the cabin.

Producer never caught on, so.

And then he died, she came out of the woodwork.

It's like, I'm, you know, half that is mine.

Yeah.

Royalties.

John Maino

Yes.

Old Charles got around.

Yeah,

that would be fun for you to do because you're not big flyer and you don't that's yes That's something to think about you should

John Maino

like I am it's not gonna be that expensive to

do that

John Maino

either.

I used okay I used to want to do something that's considered a little not cool anymore Converting a school bus that used to be the big thing you can drive that convert.

No, I know

but converting school buses were the big thing.

Remember that?

People would put in bunks, everything like that.

I think some people

John Maino

still do it.

They do.

Yeah, a lot of social media people do the bus.

They rehab the whole thing.

They sell their house.

They live in the bus.

I think that's kind of came out of COVID.

A lot of people said, I can go.

I can travel.

I can do things virtually.

So guess what?

Let's go.

Did you go to school in a long bus or a short bus?

John Maino

OK, I got a thing here, Todd.

Good morning.

On behalf of the Power Toolhorns and Woody,

Thank you for having us on yesterday.

We had a great time.

A big thanks to Todd for all of his work, too.

Love you guys.

Fluff.

That's awesome.

Later this morning, we will feature the music that they brought to us yesterday

morning right here.

Yeah.

So I listen to it.

I share it.

They played at my wedding.

So I played it yesterday at the house.

So it's, yeah, I can't imagine.

I played it later on, but I heard it live.

I can't imagine what it was in person

John Maino

here.

It was, I mean, Jim and I were both like, we're covered in goosebumps.

Yeah.

And, you know, we've been doing this for two years.

You don't want to say it best because other people are like, oh, my show was good too.

But it was, you got to say it was one of the best shows we ever had.

It was just so emotional and so like, and we were really surprised.

Like, we didn't know what was coming.

John Maino

I mean, John Kramer hooked that up for us.

And we're both like, can we hear what Jim said though?

Oh my God.

John Maino

I went out

to the lobby and there were four of them sitting there.

And I'm like, whoa, this.

I don't know.

I guess I read that they were coming in, but I don't read.

Anyway, while I'm out there, I'm like, oh, well, this looks like a $3,000 expense.

And he said, ah, that was 20 years ago.

Cost a little bit more now.

Yeah.

John Maino

Yeah.

We were standing right there watching Woody sing.

And we were just literally.

And we've had some phenomenal talents come through musically, but this was a

different level.

Lives in Hollywood, just traveled, just did a tour from the west coast to the east

coast.

I think here's the thing about it.

If you would play the original version of that, or if you picked two,

or

two of them.

I'll take voice.

But if you would have said, hey, pick which one it is, I don't know if you would have known.

I've seen Ray Charles, and he's been in Green Bay.

Because when you said that, it was going to be Ray Charles in that audition.

I was just like, oh, this is going to be pretty good.

Got

John Maino

it.

Texture.

Michael says, I'm going to Alabama versus Wisconsin in Alabama.

Want to join?

Yes.

And Lisa says, I have ticket connections to Georgia.

No, and LSU.

LSU, I'm sorry.

Oh, LSU.

Oh,

John Maino

that was Mike.

OK.

John Maino

Have you ever been to a big-time college game like outside of Wisconsin type thing?

Like a night

John Maino

game because not I would almost I

was at you know, I was at a Wisconsin Michigan game.

Oh Pretty good.

It was at

John Maino

Wisconsin at Michigan

at Michigan.

Yeah, I think they're up 18 points at half Guess who won?

Oh, I had to leave you

John Maino

know one thing about Michigan Stadium though.

It's it's not

You don't you think it's a hundred and eight

or seven?

That

John Maino

sounds bigger than NFL.

But it doesn't feel that big.

No,

John Maino

it's weird because you can drive.

You think you're looking the first time I went there.

This is no lie.

I missed it.

I drove past it.

Well, you know, it's sunk in the ground, sunk in the ground or built up on the sides

or I

don't know.

I don't know the best way to say it.

But you're looking at your expect.

You're waiting to see this.

Yeah.

Unbelievable big

John Maino

thing.

Yeah.

Interesting.

Yeah.

So it's beautiful.

But I have I will say.

I'm a big 10 fan, but I would have loved to have gone to like an LSU, Georgia game, LSU, Alabama game, Saturday night, I think.

I've got Notre

John Maino

Dame games.

Yeah, I went to a Notre Dame game.

Everybody should do that one time.

Yep, that's another place.

And

those guys who own the Northland, they're huge, huge Penn State guys.

Well,

John Maino

that's quite the place, yeah.

What

John Maino

that's quite the

place to carry on that

John Maino

but you know what the pageantry of college football is so much better than the NFL is

incredible They got the ultimate tailgate party there.

They do those um

John Maino

What

are the big steaks thing?

Yeah, they do the

John Maino

Tomahawk

steaks.

John Maino

I think that's banned these days.

No, the Tomahawk steaks.

They do the Tomahawk steaks.

I'll show you the Tomahawk

steak.

John Maino

What's going on here?

I don't know.

Help me.

Wow.

Keep up.

Back after this.

John Maino

a beautiful July 3rd.

It doesn't get much better than today.

Beautiful day out there.

Nice forecast.

We're with Mark Houston.

Amplify by Bell and Health Sports Medicine.

Vinny says, if Mino goes on this trip, one travel van, one hazmat van.

Thank you, Vinny.

Michael says, been to Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, LSU Clemson, Miami, and Georgia, Florida Game and Jacksonville.

How much cooler of a life does Michael have than us?

Michael should live in the

Southeast I'm disappointed someone you know Jim.

What's that?

John Maino

You're okay.

My brother did the Baseball.

John Maino

Oh, yeah, I know some people like that's kind of easy

to do.

Yeah, because they're kind of

John Maino

close.

Yeah Okay, so you're doing all this stuff for your family you got a phenomenal weekend coming up did all the cooking at three o'clock this morning.

Yeah,

that's my way.

What do you

John Maino

think

of

John Maino

that mark?

He's got that three o'clock.

The neighbors loved that one.

He

John Maino

agreed though that

That was he thought it out.

Yeah, but and then you did something yesterday to take care of dogs No, no, no, I'm just but I mean you've you've been perfect.

It's like wow.

I'm what a shining example a lot of dads do that.

That's

John Maino

mr.. Dads who you leave at home

Look, he's happy.

I talked to him about it.

I said look Milton's staying home, but his cousin my daughter's dog is there and

So

John Maino

all these dogs are re-frolicking and your dogs will be cooped up in the house?

No, no, the babysitter we got, he likes her a lot.

So, no, he's got, no,

John Maino

it's

all good,

John Maino

it's all

good.

John Maino

Mark?

Yeah.

So Mark, we got High School Football coming up down the road.

We're gonna

John Maino

reveal in, I think, two weeks.

Yeah, I heard that.

We're finishing up some of our commercials next week so they can get edited.

It's going to be here before you know it.

But you guys

John Maino

can be a part of it again,

right?

Yep.

Yep.

We're all part of it.

So you guys are trying to get ready.

Such a part.

I mean, and that's what it is.

If your kids have to play sports, if they want to play sports, I should say, they do need a pre-participation exam.

by a physician, by a provider, by a mid-level, which is PAs.

So do the school

John Maino

schedule those mark, or is

it on the individual?

That's on the individual.

But if you are, I mean, we try to start in the middle school, but you're required in high school every other year in Wisconsin, every year in Michigan.

It's a quick exam.

When I say a quick exam, it probably takes you 20 minutes.

But they're going to check your vision.

They're going to check your heart.

They're going to check your

lungs.

They're going to check your body parts.

They want to make sure that you're safe.

John Maino

I'm going to say something.

I was joking around about my whatever I did have my torsion incident.

You don't even want me to get started.

That's a whole different show.

We could go on and on about that.

But but I do know on a serious note, some young guys have been diagnosed because they the doctors noticed something a little abnormal that wouldn't have been detected before and have caught some serious things early.

Yeah, you know, I mean, the big one right now that's being talked about is cardiac screenings.

You know, I mean, you can

sit there and say, hey, someone, you know, they don't, we don't think they have any problems.

They don't have any symptoms.

But even as my wife knows, sometimes these things kind of creep up, it doesn't matter if you're age, you could be 10, 15, 20, you could be 40, 50, 60.

So it's one of those things, if you have something, we want to make sure we catch it.

Someone asked me, how many times does everyone go through a physical and you never can participate?

I don't think I've ever heard anyone get disqualified ever.

Now, I'm not going to say that it hasn't happened.

But it's just one of those things.

It's a good preventive technique.

Are you ready?

The other thing, it's kind of like, hey, you know, do you have anything wrong?

No, no, no, no, yes.

All these no's.

Then also during the exam, you know what?

My knee still hurts from that injury that I had six months ago.

Oh, well, let's take a look at and find out.

Geez, it was never taken care of because it got injured in the last game of the year.

So.

If you, you know, and I tell people, talk to your primary care physicians, they do them at fast care, urgent cares, just get out, be seen.

It, you know, it'll, for some people, it'll be your insurance.

If you're a partnered school with Bell and we do them for $20, we turn the $20 back over to the schools.

How do they

John Maino

make a reservation

or an appointment?

A lot of times, you know, just call you, call your primary care physician and get scheduled.

That may be one of your tougher ones.

If you're last minute, we do have fast care, urgent cares where you can walk in and

probably spend 70 bucks, 80 bucks.

And like I said, if you're a partner in school, it's $20, but it's easy to do.

The biggest thing I'm saying this, it's July 3rd.

Don't wait till August 5th on first day of football or whatever.

It's August 17th.

I'm making that day up, but it's probably close.

First day of soccer and you've waited the entire summer.

You didn't act on it.

And now your kids screaming going, I have practice at 3pm and I need this.

Why didn't you get it done back in July and August?

My point is plan it out.

and get in.

All right.

That's good advice and you know it's summer my father-in-law used to say you know July 4th summer's half over

John Maino

and

I don't know it's half over but you know we're gonna see back to school stuff.

John Maino

Well I want to say if you're a high school football athlete it's gonna

come quick.

It is so I think that's really good advice and you know 20 dollars 20 minutes that's not a lot.

John Maino

Yeah so in state rule they have to have it before they're about to practice.

Yeah okay so it's

So in high school, you should have it coming as a freshman.

And then you would get it done again in your junior year, or right before your junior.

So twice in a high school period, if you're living in Michigan, you need to get it done every year.

And to your knowledge, which is pretty deep, there's no one's been disqualified.

So there's no fear in doing it.

Yeah.

I mean, if your question would be, have you ever heard anyone disqualified?

I have never heard anyone disqualified.

I would agree.

But I will say, I'm sure some people have been disqualified.

Some people may come up and say, hey, we do some of these cardiac screens.

sometimes to be like hey you need to get this thing look at it and get it ruled out whatever so

get it done

yeah get it done I think that's a big thing as simple as get it done because we don't want to hear them

first day of practice.

I love your name.

Love what's going on.

Um, your CEOs retiring and you, do you have a new one on board?

I had been

following that.

Scott Rath gaber.

Oh, that's right.

I did read that.

Okay.

Scott Rath gaber is a CEO from, from, uh, Gunderson.

He, he, he's taken it over.

That's great.

And yep.

Chris is, uh, Chris Willesky retired.

He did a great job.

Did a wonderful job.

Yeah.

John Maino

Good.

Mark Houston, amplified by Bell and health sports medicine.

I was a pleasure having you in here, buddy.

Thanks guys.

Have a great week.

Still a lot of my friends in trivers.

Trivers.

Quick break, back up.

That was not a bad James Brown.

That

was not a bad James Brown.

Actually, if you could dance like him, that

John Maino

would be interesting.

I could do that.

We're here at Kelly and Jerry from the Elks Lodge.

Hello, ladies.

Hello.

Thanks for getting

John Maino

up early and coming to see us.

Absolutely.

Say your

John Maino

last names for me so I know McCain.

McCann.

McCann.

McCann.

Downard.

Yes.

OK.

There you go.

Thank you very much.

A little prize.

Thank you very

much.

Yeah, you said it better than my grandma.

We got married.

We took her five years.

John Maino

Love it.

Well, you guys got a lot going on.

You guys have done so much for the community.

We wanted to recognize you and Jim's got all the details.

Well,

we talk about how this, what makes this community work, are organizations like yours that raise money, give out grants.

Tell us some of the things you're working on and we just really appreciate what the Elks do.

Well, the nice thing is this is something I know for myself and a lot of the Elks, we like to help in the community, but we can only do so much on our own.

So we found that going to...

The Elks for us helped us.

We get grants from both the Wisconsin Elks Association and Grand Lodge, which is the national Elks.

We get a freedom grant and we use that money for soup for vets.

We have a free meal for our veterans once a month.

It's the second Wednesday of every month, except July.

July is just too busy.

And- Where do you host that?

That's at the Elks Lodge.

Right at the lodge, okay.

In 3195 South Ridge Road.

And... It's

John Maino

been there forever, huh?

Well, before that, it was downtown here.

Yeah, that's right.

A lot of people remember that, yeah.

And yeah, you bring your families, come on down.

It's not always soup.

Sometimes we cook out.

We do a lot of different things.

And our cooks are awesome.

Nice.

I just want to talk about how important that is, not for the meals, the socialization that...

is so important as we get, not older, but it's just important.

There's a lot of widowers.

Absolutely, absolutely.

We have a group of brothers.

They come, there's five brothers, and they all did multiple tours in Vietnam, and they come with their wives, but they socialize with everybody there.

Everybody socializes, and it's so nice.

I don't know if you realize it, we've had people come on here, psychologists, we've had people, that can help.

with depression, it can help with, it can lead to some not good things if people don't socialize.

So just thank you for keeping that up.

And you've been doing that for some time.

I just think that's-

Oh, we've been doing that for many years.

I know.

And then we also have crafts kits that we give out to our veterans.

And that's something else that you've had Gayle Norr on here before with Veterans First.

She's a member of ours.

And she's making the tiny home community.

And we are-

going to be supplying them with a lot of different items.

One of the things is the craft kits, and they're free to any of the veterans that come in for super vets.

We give them the craft kits.

There's a little thank you note.

It's pre-stamped inside there.

They just need to send the thank you note so that the people that donate them to the Elks get the recognition that they need.

But it's nice because they can sit down and they can sew or something or do some bead work.

and talk to each other, socialize.

Isn't that nice?

And it's nice because that opens it up.

All right.

And what I like about the Elks is you really put, you walk the walk.

I mean, you really put-

Exactly.

That's exactly what they do.

John Maino

That's exactly what Kim just texted it.

The Elks walk the walk when it comes to helping veterans.

Because when we hear about your organization, they used to attend quite a few of them like Johnny did too.

And it's just, it's such a plethora of things that you offer.

So then some of the things that go on at the Elks Lodge are,

Now while the American Red Cross Drive is every Friday at the Elk's Lodge and then there's a modern twist Western Dance Club every Thursday night.

We have Soup for Vets is a free meal for the vets every second Wednesday of the month in July, except for July.

Then there's the Green Bay Accordion Club the first Saturday of the month except for in July.

There's an accordion club.

There's an accordion club that shows up at the Lodge.

They come from

all over Wisconsin.

I mean, they travel.

And what do they do?

They play accordions.

I mean, they come there and do a...

Oh, yes.

Wow.

Is it lessons or do they just jam?

They jam.

Isn't that

fun?

Wouldn't that be fun on a Friday morning?

Because normally we do live music on Fridays.

Can they

come in here and play?

I can give you a contact number.

We can give you a contact number.

We

would love that.

That is a...

I mean, everybody likes accordion music.

Oh, and you can go listen to it if you just want to go listen to it.

All right.

Yeah.

That's cool.

All right.

So that's on the first Saturday of the month.

Okay.

And then, uh, the, uh, the, uh, Carrie Calva trivia second Friday of every month, except for July.

And that funds, uh, two scholarships.

Wow.

That's

neat.

Um, the Green Bay Deaf Club, uh, check the Facebook.

page for that

because

they have different schedules.

Then the PAC, the Boy Scouts, 4163, they have meetings there, and then the Ladies American Legion Post, 539 has meetings there also.

John Maino

I spoke at one of the Veterans Day activities you guys had there.

a few years back, and boy, you guys treated those veterans so well and the meal you had and just the door prizes and just the, it was just a great, great event.

In fact, for one of my books, I bet I came up with three candidates that are now in my book that I'm writing, you know, just from meeting them there in that social setting like that.

So you guys do a great thing.

Up in my hometown, and I've talked to Jim about this, the Elks, my brothers remember the Elks up in my hometown in the UP, they raise so much money

by making and selling pasties.

You can't believe it.

It's legendary how much money they make selling pasties.

Oh, you should become an elk.

Do you know how many members of ours are from the UP?

I'll bet a lot.

I can count about ten of them, myself included.

Where are you from?

Go ahead.

Oh my gosh, your model towner.

Originally, Sault Ste.

John Maino

Marie.

Oh, you're a red or a blue devil then?

Yes, I'm both.

You know what,

John Maino

in those small communities up there, the elks is kind of like the

you know center of social

right is it's great

John Maino

yeah

my grandpa's brother was an elk and i always thought oh he'd be so proud because i'm the club president which is our

exaltation

and then i thought oh he passed in the 70s he might have been kind of annoyed that they even let me in the door

right things have changed you

know

better

pasties

Oh, I can make a pasty.

Oh, boy.

But we do the broad fry down here.

We do broad fries.

And matter of fact, if you check our schedule, we have five of them coming up at Festival Foods.

Well, those are good broads.

John Maino

Another text there.

Always.

Oh, let's

talk about that.

Always

looking for new members.

If you are interested in becoming an elk, you can go to www.elks.org.

You can pop into the lodge, come in on a Thursday night.

The bartender can help you out, show you around, tell you about what's going on.

And you can go to GBELKS259 at gmail.com.

But that will email our lodge or call us at 920-983-9259.

And that phone rings to the secretary.

I love

John Maino

what you guys are talking about with so many different types of activities.

Right.

You know, where it's the different days of the week and things like that.

Talk one more time that Jim brought up about your brought fries.

Cause I want to be able to push people there,

when and

John Maino

where.

We'll be at the Depear Festival Foods, July 20th, July 25th.

and September and August 24th.

And

then the Kerry Calva Scholarship, they're doing two brought files to help get more funds so they can give.

larger amounts or more scholarships and those will be august 2nd and august 23rd

all

green bay

and you have branches all over i know and two rivers my dad was the exalted ruler in two rivers and he called it the exhausted

rooster i actually i actually have a pin my husband ordered me that says the exhausted ruler and i wore it to a conference and nobody

saw he said the exhausted rooster or something but he really enjoyed that and i do again what he liked about it was there's

just the variety of things that they did in two rivers.

And the thing is, you can put as little or as much time as you want in.

Jerry, tell them about, I was in the hospital and I wasn't there, but everybody stepped up and did so much.

True, everybody

stepped up and tried to help out, lead the meetings and, you

know.

I was out for almost six months.

And it was during Christmas, so I missed Christmas, I missed a lot of stuff.

It went on without me.

You know, there are a lot of

John Maino

organizations that have really, well, the BFW is one of them that have really struggled for newer members.

How are you guys doing along those lines?

We're keeping our head above water.

Yeah, I think

so.

But it is every organization, Optimist,

Rotary, all that stuff.

There's got to be dues for this.

It's

about $123 a year, but it's prorated.

We go from April to March.

and it's roughly $10 and like $11 a month.

So they'll prorate it.

But when you think about it, putting in that much money, you'd spend that much at Starbucks going there once or twice.

You could put that in.

John Maino

Got a text here just to follow up when you're standing there.

Follow the GB Elks Lodge 259 Facebook page for more details.

Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, I knew that was Elizabeth.

Thanks Elizabeth

for the reminder.

And I just want to say that you do a lot of good, but

Selfishly, it's good to socialize with people.

That's really healthy.

People talk about diets and exercise, which is really important.

But you read a lot more about getting out of the house and talking to people and meeting people.

And this is a great way to do that.

For

$11 a month.

Oh, I know.

I know.

Like I said, you can go to Starbucks and spend that on a drink or two or a movie.

And it's all about the social.

And the thing about...

the elxes, they remember you.

You become part of a group that they will not forget you.

If you're sick, they'll send you a card.

Support each other, right.

They'll visit you if you need a meal.

John Maino

You guys are old school in a really good way when I say that

and the more people we have the more members we have the more we can do

right beautiful true and when you look at

a community and I know a little bit about that.

Those are the organizations that make it work.

You know, I mean, politicians might take the credit, but it's the non-profit grassroots that understand what the community needs too.

I mean, you're hearing things, you go to these meetings and say, look, these kids need school supplies.

Green Bay's changed a little bit and there's a lot of needs out there.

And the Elks that came before us, they taught us so much, so much that we didn't even realize that how many years these things have been happening.

I mean, the Green Bay Elks has been

in Green Bay since 1893.

The Elks started out as a group of actors in New York in 1868.

They were called the Jolly Corks and one of their members died and left his family destitute and they decided that they were going to turn themselves into a group that was of an Evelyn protective order of the Elks.

And what they did is they're helping the widows, they're helping the children, they're helping people with homelessness.

You know take you

John Maino

gotta just another quick texture.

It must be from your Elizabeth possibly.

Okay.

What do

John Maino

I forget from membership information or you can email B G E L K S. So B

G G B.

John Maino

But it's backwards.

He put it backwards.

Todd Green Bay.

John Maino

Todd.

Is that

too much to ask?

Come on Elizabeth.

Come on.

He's blaming

John Maino

Elizabeth.

You're blaming Todd.

Anyway,

John Maino

G B. We know that.

G B. Right.

259 at gmail.com.

GBLX259 at gmail.com.

All right.

My

fault, Elizabeth.

Sorry, Elizabeth.

It was my fault.

All

right, all right, all right, all right.

Anyway, there's so many ways to contact this.

even phone number, talk to the secretary, but yeah, what a great thing.

And then, you know, people, we talk about New Year's resolutions, but there's any time you can join, right?

There's

not, you don't have to wait till

April or anything.

So.

If you call me, if you call the lodge today, we can get you in the third Wednesday, we have a meeting and we're doing.

Where do

you guys meet?

At 3195 South Ridge.

Oh

yeah.

Okay.

That's right.

That's where your headquarters is.

All right.

Easy parking, easy to get there.

So.

Lots of parking.

Lots

of parking.

John Maino

Listen, thank you for what you do for our veterans,

for our

John Maino

youth, for just everybody in the community, and you guys do it quietly.

You don't, you know, pound your chest, look at us.

You guys just put your heads down and get the job

done.

And look at all these activities that you read off, and we didn't even get to them all.

We're

John Maino

going to keep promoting you.

You got a copy of this.

We're going to keep promoting them as they go on.

I appreciate that.

Thanks for what you're doing.

Thank

you very

John Maino

much.

Thank you very much.

Have a good floor.

Kelly Downard, Jerry McCain, or McCann, right?

Yes.

Jerry McCann.

I got to ask one quick, right?

Ruta Begas, yes or no?

Yes.

In your pasties?

Yes.

Okay.

Thank you.

Oh, yeah.

All right.

Go for it.

Do you ever go to Jack's Hideaway Bar?

Jack's Hideaway.

One of the people from Jack's Hideaway, one of their family members, I went to school with her.

John Maino

Jocko?

One of

Jocko's family?

Uh, I'm not gonna say names on the

caravan.

Okay, all right.

Yeah, yeah, it was.

Bratz or Rootabaggy?

Bratz or pasties?

Pasties.

Yeah!

July 3rd all getting a little bit cloudy out there now, but not bad.

Oh nice forecast Hi in the mid 80s by the way, you're Milwaukee Brewers.

We take it on the Mets in New York again 535 on WIS S Todd we haven't talked about your weekend

He doesn't tell

I know he doesn't what even it's it'll be work.

I gotta tell you though my My garden is going crazy.

I have so many tomatoes so many

cucumbers and zucchini and all my God.

I'll take zucchini

and I'll take cucumbers.

Okay.

So when I was making my pasta, spinach, salad, tomatoes, it was great.

Just out in the, I have that six foot thing and get the cilantro and parsley.

Yeah.

John Maino

Your flower bed, your vegetable bed.

Just go out there and

cut it off

John Maino

and put it in there.

It's nothing that

tastes better.

Yeah.

And it's so fresh.

Because that's the kind of stuff it's like, I forgot

John Maino

to

get it at the store.

Boom, it's right there.

So it sounds good.

John Maino

When I was a kid, I mean, my dad was so big into his gardens.

I mean, they were huge.

And for salads at night, somebody go out to the garden and the whole thing would be picked right there.

And five minutes later, you were eating.

I know.

See, I don't.

Have to go to the guy's turn around.

It's right there because I don't have the garden like Todd.

I'm not that

John Maino

Closer

might are just beds too though.

Like just larger beds that I've built.

Are they raised?

Oh, they are.

If you don't rabbits will eat everything.

That's true too.

Yeah.

Yep.

That's the only thing that saved me this year because I've lost a lot of stuff over the years.

John Maino

I hate to say it, but I almost think it's time to bring in some kind of a predator for rabbits.

I mean, there's so many of

them.

22.

John Maino

It's beyond belief.

My dog tries to

John Maino

do this job.

Yeah, it's crazy.

I

So there's Brad, there's chipmunks too, right?

And Chippy is one that is in our yard and him and Milton.

Wait a minute, you've named the chipmunk?

Oh yeah, Chippy.

And

Milton.

That's original.

Yeah, I know.

Just took some different ways of layering.

Just took the days and days.

Anyway, if we say Chippy's here, right to the window, we let him out.

That chipmunk knows that we have that electric fence and he goes right across and he's like putting the finger up.

But anyway, he stays in the yard, obviously, but rabbits, they are, we have a ton of rabbits.

And I live in the hood

John Maino

and they're right there.

So

it's, I don't know.

They're kind of.

John Maino

He taught, he did not get a joke.

I told him yesterday that I read off the internet.

What joke

John Maino

is it?

It's just one of the guy goes, sorry, I wanted to buy some fireworks and kind of heavy duty stuff.

So I went to this, this roadside thing and the guy brought out some extra strength stuff and I said, are these safe?

I said, does anybody need to know about this?

He gave me a wink and a high four.

That was funny.

I'm like, why don't get it?

He could not figure that out.

How long did it take you, Jeff?

I told

him I said, I don't get it.

He blew off a finger.

John Maino

Oh, I get it now.

That's funny.

That's really funny.

So, yeah.

Yeah.

Are you doing it at home?

Are you going to shoot off some fireworks?

John Maino

I don't think so.

My dog hates them.

I don't want to have anything to do with that stuff.

John Maino

It's, you know, there's enough places to go now.

Yeah, there.

You know, when I lived in Ledgeview and it wasn't, it wasn't even fully developed yet, that area.

There was woods behind me and you could, you know, do whatever, but no, not now.

But I'll tell you what, we're right here where we are.

This is going to be the hub of everything happening in Green Bay.

Yeah.

I mean, it really is.

Celebrating America's birthday, shooting off fireworks that are 99% from China.

John Maino

Yes.

Okay.

But.

Yeah, do you remember the Bicentennial?

Oh,

yeah.

Oh,

John Maino

yeah, man

Yeah,

John Maino

that was the biggest build-up ever

how many how many how many silos out there had the big 76 paint?

Yeah, remember that absolutely absolutely.

Yes red white and blue Vera then they had this um I Have the and

John Maino

rock come out Remember rock you'd come up in

I still have those that it's the donkey and the elephant like canisters that must have been

vodka whiskey and just there's a lot of cool commemorative stuff you could buy and Yeah, it was a big big big deal Donate

John Maino

those for something.

Didn't you show me those one time to donate them for something?

Maybe I did.

Yeah Yeah, I don't know but there was that was cool 200 and that's not a long time 200 years

John Maino

Oh my gosh.

Well, that is no, but all you guys do is go to Europe, go to like Prague.

And it's like, oh, that's a nice church.

Yeah, it was built.

Oh, I

know.

You know what I mean?

It's

like,

yeah.

Yeah.

But everybody was into it in 76.

I remember even the TV stations changed their logo to have red, white and blue or something.

John Maino

Absolutely.

That was huge.

The bison tenure was a huge thing.

But you know, it's one of those things.

So too, it's it's like when you.

When it's just kind of funny because I've got my 50th class reunion coming up.

Okay.

It's like 1975 doesn't seem that long ago.

I mean, okay.

But in 1975, if somebody was having a 50 year reunion, they would have been born in like 1904.

You know what I mean?

Isn't that bizarre when you think

about

that?

Here's the other thing

as of today.

1904.

I'm going to blow your

mind.

Maybe the automobile wasn't

John Maino

here.

We weren't flying.

We were

just

getting started on that.

John Maino

That would have been the people having a 50-year reunion when I was graduating from high school.

So we are over half the years done for 2025.

OK, here's the thing.

We are now closer to 2050 than we are to 2020,000.

John Maino

Say that again.

We are closer to 2050.

John Maino

Wow.

Now

right

John Maino

then two thousand then two thousand.

Okay.

I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you something I remember I had a brother in law tell me this one time Actually, if I still remember because it was on the 4th of July and and I see it was his birthday and He's like 34, you know one of those not you know, you think you know, he's a poor guy, you know I said, what's that like, you know getting me there for he says I'm gonna tell you something from

about 28 to 34 is going to go by so fast.

And you're going to constantly think to yourself, well, last year when I did, and I said, oh, that was five years ago.

And he said, it keeps going that way.

And when you said the year 2000, I still think of that as, oh, yeah, I remember that basketball game

that

John Maino

day.

Isn't that crazy?

It

John Maino

is.

I hate to sound like two old guys talking about, but it does go so fast.

It's mind boggling.

And people said to us,

It goes fast

John Maino

and you're like not believe we didn't believe it's like I want you're old school I just want to

say that because you're old.

John Maino

Yes, and now

it

John Maino

and now it's 100% the truth

blinking.

It's gone.

John Maino

Yeah, it's unreal Unbelievable

Steve just texted and he said next year is 250 years.

How come we don't hear much about it?

That's a good point.

You know what?

Yeah,

John Maino

that is

250.

We're just talking

about the 200.

I know

John Maino

We're gonna, what are we

gonna do for that show?

No man, I don't know.

We'll close the street.

John Maino

Wow.

Yeah, we will.

We'll be like a hundred.

Yeah, we're excited to break back.

and Jim Smith.

Hey, thank you very much Welcome back mine on the mayor our number three if you have been with us this long Stay with us.

It's gonna get even better.

Oh, it's soon as we're done with Pat Tracy because then We got Dennis coming on Dennis Peters, of course from the glam band and we are going to have a Replay a big mouth

the power tool horns and Woody Mankowski and what they did in the studio yesterday.

You got to hear this to believe it is for our Daddy D productions live music series.

Oh, crap.

Hey, Pat.

I love I love

what Woody did in the America, the beautiful

you heard

that.

Yes,

I

was guys picture this.

I'm cleaning out my garage.

in anticipation of the 4th of July.

And of course I have WISS on in my garage.

Great.

And that comes on.

I had goosebumps in my garage listening to that.

John Maino

Jim and I were standing right there.

We both turned to each other.

It's like, do you have goosebumps?

Completely.

It was incredible.

He's good.

John Maino

Wait till you folks hear us.

If you missed it yesterday, wait till you play it back coming up during our Daddy Deep Productions live music series with Dennis from the Glam Band.

How you doing, Pat?

We just had Lisa on.

Told us it's a beautiful day in Oshkosh.

Yes, you had Lisa.

I missed it.

Lisa.

Lisa Lisa.

Lisa Hale.

John Maino

Oh, oh, our Lisa.

Yeah, that lady that kind of is right there.

Hey, can we call her Lisa Lisa

John Maino

now?

I think that's cool.

I like it.

I like it.

But she was talking about the thing at Menominee

Park.

She's trying to break into radio.

So

yeah,

John Maino

we'll give her a name.

Got to give her a name.

So, hey, big duens in Ashkosh this weekend.

And the best part is my daughter is bringing home her newly minted husband to spend the fourth with

Mom and dad.

That's why you were cleaning the garage.

That's cleaning up the garage.

He should have left it for him and really give him the test.

Can I just paint a quick picture here of what this poor guy's weekend is going to be like?

Yes.

I have a list of like eight projects.

All those little things that like I either hate doing or I can't do like fix the toilet handle, you know, like I got a list.

You're going to give him the list.

Wow.

So

he loves it.

He lives for the list.

OK.

He's an overachiever.

OK.

Good to hear.

Nobody on this show is Pat.

I know we're questioning

John Maino

it.

We're not overachievers.

We're going to get.

OK.

I'll tell you I'll tell you a

little story of

John Maino

what I

got from my father.

John Maino

We would be the bare minimum.

Yes.

Here.

OK.

So

this guy's showing up.

He's

John Maino

here.

John Maino

That's

good.

My wife's like, no,

John Maino

we're not getting a lot of cows in a big chainsaw.

You know, not a good combo, but.

Anyway, I lost though.

There's no chainsaw.

We're going to be like, you know, fixing the toilet and handle and the little screw in the cabinet.

So that's what we're going

to be doing.

Yeah.

OK, Pat.

I would have given up the spotted car.

It went very manly to very.

I didn't want to say it,

but

the wife won.

OK.

Well, that's nothing new.

Yeah.

OK.

Jim,

tell us your story and save me.

OK.

So I was.

My father-in-law came to my house and said to Donnie, he goes, I don't see a lot of tools around the house.

I'm going to get some for Jim.

So this was in my Christmas.

And he got me the crescent wrenches and stuff.

And they come looking at like cellophane.

Yeah,

the

ratchets.

The ratchets.

And

then he came over 4th of July.

I had a change the tank on the gas grill and he said, um, I'll help you do that.

And I'm like, don't go downstairs and you're all still in.

Not my thing.

Just don't.

I don't like tools.

So anyway,

I did not win the man a card like your son in law.

So not my thing, but.

So love them.

That was my lead in to talk about the amazing 4th of July weekend that I'm going to show them here in Oshkosh.

Farmers markets got to be on there.

Oh my gosh.

Well, that's Saturday.

Let's make it to Saturday because tomorrow friends is the 4th of July.

It is the

4th.

We will be marching in the Oshkosh 4th of July parade.

With Discover Oshkosh, RJ is coming, and it's going to be his first parade ever.

He's going to march with

John Maino

me.

How long of a parade is that?

It might be two miles.

Oh, that's not too bad.

Because have you ever done that Appleton one?

I walked that one time for an organization way back.

And oh, I know what parade right, you guys, because when I did the Miss Wisconsin.

Pageant thingy miss one year.

So I know exactly where you meet.

That's a that's a cool loop That's not too bad.

So this guy gets

to fix the toilet handle and march in

John Maino

a parade And screw in the cabinet menacing cabinet Wow, yeah missing.

Yeah,

dog any projects that I've missed

John Maino

face How much is he could be lying when he goes back home that right dead down some

trees?

He loves it.

He's a Minnesota

man.

Sure.

He does.

Yeah.

I'm sure.

Yeah.

Um, uh, nine a.m.

She's like

RJ.

RJ.

It's one day.

It's one day, honey.

Please.

Yes.

Wow.

What?

Friends, if you have not seen the Oshkosh, uh, Fourth of July parade, it's really fun.

And the streets from literally Main Street from, uh, Wagyu all the way north to Irving is lined.

with festive people.

And then the parade turns right on Irving Street and then marches due east right to Monomony Park.

So what are

you going to be wearing?

We'll be wearing like, well, I'll personally have a red hat and a white shirt and blue pants.

OK,

John Maino

there you

go.

All right.

John Maino

All right.

Handing

anything out, candy to the kids or anything?

We have discover Ashkosh Kuzi's.

There

you

go.

Oh, another promo item that will remain unnamed.

But guys, our funnest thing is we have this big picture frame.

And if you go to discover Oshkosh, you'll see some of the photos.

We have this big picture frame that you can like we carry around.

It's light and three or four people can get in it and it says, you know, Happy Fourth of July from Oshkosh.

Isn't that nice?

That's good.

Nice

John Maino

memory.

I know.

Get

your frame makes it you guys.

I want to give that idea to you as my

John Maino

I like it.

I like it a lot.

Okay.

John Maino

Now, tell us about this food truck rally at Menominee Park.

I've

John Maino

never been to a place with 20 food trucks.

Yeah, that's a rally.

That's cool.

And they're going to locate it like five spots, I believe, five clusters throughout the park.

And so, you know, it's not quite a mile from one end of the other.

It's probably a half mile from one end of the park to the other.

John Maino

I don't mean to interrupt here, Pat.

We got a text, a serious text for you.

Ceiling fan.

Don't forget the bleeping ceiling fan.

Oh,

gosh.

OK.

That.

That's so funny.

Who's that from?

Gee, I wonder who sent that in.

It wasn't RJ.

Thank you, Don.

The ceiling fan.

Yeah.

This is classic Pat.

Pat's Pat's the big project.

The whole lifestyle improvement project to keep on cool.

Yeah.

In July.

All of a sudden that got forgotten.

John Maino

Okay.

Wow.

John Maino

That's okay, buddy.

She's listed.

I gotta meet.

I gotta.

I want to meet Saint RJ.

Okay.

So, uh, and then the fireworks started nine, but I have a super cool tip for the listeners.

Okay.

This is, this is not really out there on Hazel street, uh, at Melvin and Hazel.

Okay.

Melvin is one of the, uh, East West streets.

Okay.

there's a house that a fellow sets up a rock band on his roof.

His roof on his roof.

And he puts scaffolding up there.

And he plays at 9pm.

Todd, have you seen bad acts?

Yes.

Well, see, so this fella has been working for a week to build a he does this every year.

He builds a scaffold on his roof enough that he can put up on his roof of a

John Maino

one-story In the city of Oshkosh is okay with this because I could see Jim back today Take that

down.

Just

John Maino

me

love live music in Oshkosh.

Okay, he then hauls up an entire drum kit and riser Good bass guitar and electric guitar and I think one year they had keyboards amps up on the roof

with a light show and pyrotechnics

honest to God.

He does it on

his own.

And there's a sign out in front of his house.

It says 9 p.m.

Fourth of July.

Bring lawn chairs.

Wow.

John Maino

That's actually really cool.

I would like to see that.

Ashkashians and beyond.

Be at Menominee Park.

Put in your phone.

Hazel and Melvin two houses north is bad acts Wow ad

John Maino

ax We got to get some video of that.

Yeah, we got I want to see this that sounds like I

get video for you guys

John Maino

excellent

So so how we doing for breaks here because I

can we got about two minutes two minutes

Oh last last year so we go down every year last year we went down and they play like a classic rock set of like

you know, early 70s stuff, right?

I'm super fun classic rock.

At the big crescendo at the end, they light off the pyro on the roof.

And it is so hot that it hits your forehead.

I mean, it's like, wow.

John Maino

This is allowed.

I mean, one person at their home is allowed to do that.

I love this.

I love that about Oshkosh.

That's

great.

I mean, that's it.

Wow.

That is.

That's that's a fun.

Are you going to be?

Touch me.

Go get the

John Maino

door.

Yeah.

Open

the door.

That sounds like a fun evening.

Wow.

That is

my gosh.

So so he's got it figured out now.

So 9 p.m.

He plays his set up until like 9 45.

And then the

John Maino

fireworks start.

That sounds phenomenal.

That just sounds like a really fun

Weekend like neighborhood.

Yes camaraderie.

Yeah,

John Maino

that's great.

I'm so jacked and the best part is I get to come here and share it with you in the listeners.

Right?

That's like the the funnest part of all.

That's

John Maino

great.

Well, Pat, I'll tell you what, you should.

I hope you have a phenomenal weekend.

I hope the weather holds.

But man, you sure.

We talk about this all the time for as much crap as we give you.

You are so passionate for your community.

It's incredible.

And community needs that to keep going and you bring it.

Yeah, just

yeah, we love we love our community here in Oshkosh.

We have a great fourth and we'll see you.

Yeah, next week.

But yes.

John Maino

You're the best.

I appreciate it, my friend.

All right.

Take care, buddy.

We got a quick break back right after this.

when they do their thing with this.

Goosebumps.

Goosebumps.

But again, wait till you hear.

We're here at Dennis.

Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns with Woody Mankowski did an amazing performance yesterday.

We're gonna be playing that back in our Daddy D productions live music series.

And I'll tell you what, you know it's really cool.

Both of you guys, Dennis Peters here and Daddy D, both Army veterans.

And when you hear music like that, I still think of the...

You know of the concert or excuse me the parades with the when I was at the World War two even some World War one veterans and the World War two veterans and that was the music that all the bands will be playing in the parades Oh, yeah, so I still get I think for you guys having been a part of that

And their uniform would still fit my every

John Maino

really

absolutely as unbelievable some of those might

Yeah, that music takes you back to the bison.

It does.

Yeah, I was listening to that on the way in here.

Yeah, crazy that next year is 50.

Yeah, you know,

Arthur Fielder's Boston pops.

Right.

Yeah.

Unbelievable.

Love that.

I still I still get goosebumps listening to that.

John Maino

I mean, that's something I would attend.

You know what I mean?

Where is that in Boston itself?

Right?

Right in the in the Harbor Lake area.

Were they do that life?

I thought that was in New York City that they had the thing that they had the bicentennial the big prey There was a national TV back in the day.

Okay.

Was it DC?

I don't know.

I got a thing goes freaking everywhere, you know, I

was I mean it was talking but Todd made a good point that We really there's a lot of buildup to that

the sure was

doesn't seem like there's a lot of buildup to the 250th So maybe we gotta start working on it.

So we're launching it right here and

I've

John Maino

noticed that as well.

We're officially

launching

it right here.

Tonight.

And to do it, I want to just, I want to share this picture on our stream.

This is what'll kick it off for us.

Oh yeah, I just got to wear that outfit of Liberace.

It's Liberace.

That's right.

And he's going to lead the parade.

I'd like to thank my

friend George.

And the parade's only going to be here in the studio and he'll just march

around.

Hey, steps are steps.

That doesn't matter, right?

Absolutely.

They don't, they don't, they don't say how, they say how many.

John Maino

That's right.

Dennis Peters lamb band in the house.

Good

morning.

Do you

John Maino

have a weekend off or no?

We do not, as they say up

John Maino

north.

We are playing at Riverfront Rendezvous and Stevens Point tonight, six to 10.

So it's going to all those deals.

John Maino

But on the fourth, do you have a

gig?

We're off.

Oh, that's right.

At least you got that going.

We had it scheduled off in advance.

John Maino

Cool.

Yeah.

I mean, you know, people don't realize

John Maino

you guys have families.

We do.

John Maino

You're not all 24 years old like you look on

stage.

So what will you do?

That's a good question.

I have some friends that in American Platinum probably see them once or twice this weekend.

Some other bands too.

I think Boogie and the Yo-Yo's is playing at the Wharf this weekend on Sunday.

Might stop in and see those folks.

Cool.

They got some friends down in Sheboygan area.

Who knows?

Who knows?

Can you

John Maino

go to somebody else's venue as you and be left alone by people?

A lot of the time.

Okay.

That's good then.

I put the musician types usually kind of know me.

Because when

John Maino

we were at Epic that night,

And it was fine.

And then once, no, it wasn't there.

Where was it?

Oh, it's a different, it was that epic, but you guys were performed.

And beforehand, you know, you were, you're cool talking.

And then as soon as you put on your thing, it's like you couldn't move with people

talking to you and everything.

It's interesting because there's some bliss in that.

You know what I mean?

Yeah, you know.

I'm kind of a private person to begin with.

Well, that's what I mean.

John Maino

But then when you're

that character, people just want to swarm you.

I just realized I'm starting to sound like Mark Hewson.

You didn't notice that in that delivery?

It's like, holy, wow.

Sorry, Mark, I meant no harm by that.

But I just realized that my tone sounded just like him.

John Maino

We're Dennis Peters from Glam Band for the Daddy D Productions live music series.

But our live music, as we mentioned, will be what we recorded yesterday with Woody Mankowski in Big Mouth and the Power Toolhorns.

And there's a lot going on.

Of course, it's for two reasons.

One is it's a great time to celebrate.

But secondly, it is July.

We

got to

lean into July here and these parts, but yeah, just everywhere it is, you know, I'm talking about Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, you know, just all the way up and down the lake.

There's just so many festivals and things going on.

And yeah, people need to get out and celebrate.

And this is-

John Maino

When we were kids, how about two rivers had stuff, I was, but you know, in my area, there's so many, all these small communities go so big with it now.

And this is not a-

controversial, well, maybe a little bit today, but this isn't a controversial holiday.

This isn't a religious holiday.

This isn't buying gifts.

This is not a stressful holiday.

It's a pretty easy holiday, right?

I mean, the food's not real expensive and it's like, you don't have to get dressed up.

You don't have to go buy something new.

This is just a very, let's celebrate.

I mean, we're all Americans and let's

John Maino

celebrate.

Baseball hot dogs,

apple

John Maino

pie, and Chevrolet,

you know?

It

John Maino

kind of is.

You know what's still kind of funny then?

I'd love to go to some of those places.

I know Todd was going to go to Gettysburg and I don't know if you've been to those, but I

When you read about some of those revolutionary war battles or whatever, I can't believe our side won.

That's fair.

John Maino

Well, I

think that's a good start of that way.

Right.

But the

other thing is how young those guys were.

I mean, those guys were

teen

ages, right?

Like 19, 20, 21.

They're like, you know,

and younger.

Yeah.

But I

John Maino

mean,

we're going to one of the most

John Maino

well-trained army in the world was Britain.

And we had a bunch of little farm

guys beat them.

But they also said, you know, we're going to kick their ass.

Oh,

John Maino

it's a matter of life.

It's like our guys said they were going to.

Yeah, they were very confident.

Well, that does sound the book of the World

John Maino

Warfare a little too.

Yeah.

Standing there in the wide open.

Hello.

John Maino

Yeah.

Can you imagine that?

I am a target.

I'm a red coat.

John Maino

Isn't that amazing?

How they dumb.

Did you ever watch the

pompous

John Maino

series?

Not HBO, but one.

I don't know what it's whatever, whatever.

But it was, I think it was called Spies.

Did you ever see that about the

Oh, George Washington had an amazing spy network.

Yeah, I want to go back to what I said.

But you said them are awesome.

I said, we're going to kick them.

They were overconfident in

John Maino

the British.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That's what I meant.

Yeah.

Yeah.

They were overconfident, but we were not intimidated.

That's what I was looking for.

Great point.

Great point.

Life and liberty.

I mean, if you're right, right, it has a little more meaning than just fighting for the king.

Right.

John Maino

Bigmouth and the Power Tool horns and the Woody Mankowski segment will be coming up.

DaddyD Productions live music series.

Dennis Pittier from the Glam Band.

We got a cast of thousands here.

They're just so impressive.

And then there's me and this slumpa.

Back after this.

97.9 FM, WGBW 98.3, 96.5 FM, WISS and of course the Civic Media app.

We're heading into a phenomenal weekend and I'll tell you we got Dennis Peters here from the Glam Band talk about some great things during our Big Mouth or during our Daddy D Productions live music series where you'll be hearing Big Mouth and the Power Toolhorns and the solo by Woody Mankowski that was just

Amazing.

John Kramer, we want to thank you for putting that together.

Like I said, we already talked about it before, but Jim kind of put his foot in his mouth because he thought he was going to be like the big dog here with all these guys.

He says, holy cow.

Yeah, you showed up on time.

And I know.

And that was awesome fluffy pulling that card and what the time you didn't show up to that event and I had to cover for you yesterday Yeah, that wasn't good again.

No, that

was perfect.

That

was great.

I don't know how he held that in all this time to play that card.

Yeah, he must have been plant.

He's very devious.

I'm not gonna mess with him

John Maino

anymore.

It's kind of scary.

Yeah,

John Maino

John introduce yourself and introduce Kevin.

Well, once again, John Kramer hit here today with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and our

Division Commander Kevin Osgood and we're going to talk a little bit about Operation Dry Water.

Dry Water.

Go ahead Kevin.

Operation Dry Water.

John Maino

Okay well thank you for being here.

Thanks for having us.

What is Operation Dry Water?

Operation Dry Water is an annual national event and it's it's stepped up enforcement of boating while intoxicated.

trying to reduce the number of intoxicated boaters on the water, because so many people are going to be on the water from today on.

I mean, it is a long weekend.

It is a fun weekend.

The weather is going to be great.

People are going to be on the water.

And alcohol is the number one cause of fatalities.

And let's just call it deaths, the number one cause of deaths on the water.

And we don't need that.

Across the country, we've done a really good job of bringing the number of deaths down due to alcohol.

Let's keep it up.

What are you trying to do take a picture?

Well, yeah your radio man put the camera away.

You're beautiful.

We got to get you Can you do you need a reason to stop them like or you can you just Well, you know on the water any law enforcement organization can do a boarding to do a safety inspection There is no probable cause required to stop a boater on the water One of the difference that's that's one of the differences about

you're driving a boat and driving a car.

So law enforcement needs no reason to stop you other than to do a safety inspection.

If they smell alcohol on the captain, then that could lead to a whole new thing.

John Maino

Right.

Is it like zero tolerance if you're piloting, driving a boat?

I mean, it's going to be zero tolerance weekend, but it's the same blood alcohol content as driving in Wisconsin.

It's still 0.08.

OK.

And your guests can have open containers on the boat.

That's another thing that's different.

But the captain can't be intoxicated.

And there's a whole sort of slew of things that'll happen if you're caught.

So just avoid it.

So what do you

mean by zero tolerance?

So you can still be given a ticket for operating well.

Do you guys do the test, too?

Even if you're under the

0.08.

Well, yeah, law enforcement can still, you know, if they suspect that the captain's intoxicated, then they're going to do a field sobriety test, just like you would if you were pulled over.

Wow.

How do you do that in the

John Maino

water?

I know.

There are some things they can do.

They'll sit you down on their vessel and do some things, and then there's...

Then if they suspect from that, then they take you back to

shore.

Wow.

But they will.

But here's the biggest thing.

Is

everybody tipsy in a boat?

I mean, literally.

Other folks can be tipsy, but there's a whole other risk that goes with that, too.

There's statistics on the number of drunk passengers who drown every year because they're not wearing a life jacket and they fall off.

But they can, yeah.

Can

when you board the boat, can you look around and cite them for other things, like if they don't have their life preservers?

Well, yeah, it says if they stop you for a safety inspection, right it's a safety inspection So so where are your life jackets?

Are they readily accessible again in a locked cabinet doesn't work.

They got to be so

those are Yeah, and that

happens a lot

it

happens a

lot how much

is the fine for something like that for not wearing

a lot more than Not wearing a life jacket just paddling your kayak down the Fox River without without the life jacket with you on the boat

couple hundred bucks.

No kidding.

That's

not like a seat belt violation.

I mean we had 4th of July here several years ago right here on the Green Bay waterfront back when you were mayor.

I remember a Coast Guard boat stopped a canoe.

that had six people in it, and they had no life jackets.

And it done six times 200.

Hey, I hate to bring a terrible thing up.

Just happened.

John Maino

I brought my area up in the UP.

They had a bad tragedy last week up around Copper Harbor, which is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I tell Jim in the fall, he's got to make a road trip up there.

But three people in a canoe, from what I understand, on Lake Superior in the middle of the night, no.

That's that's incredibly sad.

Yeah, that's a totally preventable totally completely preventable I don't know what to say to that.

It's not in here about that one yet.

Yeah, but

I don't know

do you

guys Borrow them to him or no you used to Well, I want them whatever active duty Coast Guard.

No, I mean there.

I mean no

On the auxiliary patrol boat, I've been out there on patrol on the Fox River and here in southern Bay of Green Bay.

And if we come across a boat and we see a small child, it's usually an infant because people find it, it's harder to find those.

Coast Guard approved life jackets for your three-month-old baby, but they're still required to have a life jacket on because they're under 12 and under.

John Maino

So Jim is gonna be out on the pontoon with his family this weekend.

We got

John Maino

him.

Give him some suggestions here, just

don't drink and pilot the boat Have those life jackets out and about if not on on as preferable, but

The

auxiliary does not enforce.

We are all about education.

I'm confused.

So our active duty shipmates aren't as busy.

So what are you doing when you're out there in the water?

Actively doing it as far as

when I notice

something see something say something to them basically,

right?

Yeah, we see something.

Hey that that child should be in a life jacket and if somebody needs help a lot of times We we help a lot of people the southern Bay of Green Bay.

We all know Longtail is a great place for everybody to go and sometimes the tides don't change but a boaters decision to put the boat on the beach might

Might have been a really good idea at the start and then if they can't get it off the beach at the end or where their engine dies or you're your brand new sailor and you forgot.

There's plenty of enforcement out there.

Yes.

I just don't want people to think there's not.

There's plenty of enforcement.

And our boat will be out there this weekend.

Right.

Helping out with the 4th of July, making sure people stay out of the zone there.

Want to do some music from the left?

You introduced this.

Well, yesterday we had the honor of having a couple of great

We had Woody Mankowski, a local musician, singer, songwriter.

And of course, the Power Tool horns, all thanks to the Green Bay Press Times and John Kramer.

And it was outstanding.

And this morning, we're going to start the music off this morning in the Daddy Deep Productions live music series with Woody's rendition of America the Beautiful.

This is the Ray Charles version, and he knocked it out of the ballpark.

Oh, beautiful, for heroes' proof, in liberating strife, who more than self their country loves.

Oh beautiful, full spacious sky.

John Maino

Mankowski big mouth and the power tool horns Dennis I got goosebumps brother, but I tell you wow that

is Ray Charles though, right?

I mean I've seen Ray Charles do this that yes, like perfect Yeah,

how does that guy sing like that in the morning?

John Maino

And just sitting right there.

There's

unreal

John Maino

without things but

it's you know, it's amazing how

John Maino

you guys You really get into your music.

Oh, yeah, I mean it's it's from it's from the

deep in your body.

That's what I was thinking of, Kevin.

It's in your soul.

Yeah,

he's not looking around.

He's just

in it.

He's in it.

He's just totally immersed in it.

That's a beautiful thing.

He's a very interesting person, too.

I mean, he lives in North Hollywood and he just finishes tour from really the West Coast to the East Coast.

Yeah,

it's amazing.

Florida Dallas.

Wow.

And a super nice guy too.

A sweetheart.

All those guys are.

John Maino

Hey, I don't want to sound old, but I almost talked to Mark Houston this morning.

I think I pulled up a groin.

You and me getting up yesterday after we kneeled for the picture.

Well, it seemed a little bit harder for Jim, but I hope you guys

John Maino

all.

Tough crowd.

John Graver, thank you for what you do.

Kevin Burke or Kevin Osgood, please have a phenomenal weekend and keep everybody safe.

Thanks for what you guys do.

Thanks for having us.

Because again, this is something people need to know how dangerous it is out in the water this weekend.

But

if you just follow some basic rules, it's a great weekend.

Right.

Just stay alert.

Follow the basics.

You'll have a great time.

Common sense, right?

Common sense.

Stay alert.

Stay alive.

John Maino

There you go.

Love it.

You guys are awesome.

U.S.

Coast Guard Agility.

We'll be back with more of the Daddy D productions after

this.

Americana, Americana, Americana, Americana band, then the Cooley boys hitting the stage from seven to 10.

A really great time from Terry.

I got text there for Kramer Kramer, you rock brother.

I know you're not too bad, Brian Brick.

The Brickster Brickie was one of my all time great friends.

So Dennis, this weekend, I mean, you being an army veteran.

And you're one of the most love our country kind of guys.

This

has to be a really cool time for you.

Love it.

To me, it's like Christmas during the summertime in a way.

Yeah.

Because I love this country without aid out.

John Maino

Yeah.

And despite what's going on.

John Maino

You raised your right hand

and

John Maino

said, I'll defend it.

Heck yeah.

I think this is becoming one of my favorite holidays.

Sure.

Yeah, but the thing is, we're talking about this off air, but I wish people would say Independence Day instead of, you know, July 4th.

Happy, you know, whatever, you know.

Happy 4th of July.

It's like, no, man.

It's our independence.

Let's focus on that.

I relate to saying happy.

I was saying before, instead of saying happy 4th of July.

Happy 27th of September.

Yeah.

No, man.

Well, you're a history

John Maino

buff, though, too.

I mean, you understand the...

What

it

John Maino

took to get this

it's independent our country's independence.

Yeah, you know, let's talk about that instead of happy 4th of July happy f you England, you know I Get passionate about that when every time I hear that it's on the commercials on TV on you know, it's just come on I

think that's like

John Maino

bringing out

that side I'd be too and I just when you read about You know that and I get it there were some older people there are a lot of younger people and what what they did and then you

know

John Maino

But I like that you're such a passion about our history,

our

John Maino

nation's history.

I mean, that's really

cool.

And you mentioned it before, you know, life, liberty, they knew

it.

Yeah, exactly.

You're fighting for your life and your country.

This wasn't a

tour duty.

Yeah, that's right.

This is life.

You're all in.

All

in.

If

you're

not, you did.

John Maino

And

they

John Maino

knew it.

And they knew it.

It wasn't

like, yeah, you could lose your life here.

It's like, I know that.

John Maino

Have you ever thought about doing

Well, I don't know if you want to do the Ray Charles type thing like what he did there But I mean have you ever thought about doing like a 4th of July type thing where you're not the character from the glam band you're Dennis Peters the army veteran who?

You know loves our country and has a phenomenal voice if you ever thought about doing something like that I think you'd be really great.

Yeah,

he said everything great there except for that phenomenal voice part I'm not so sure about that, but I appreciate you saying I guess I'll close

John Maino

the year two years running in the state of Wisconsin doesn't help for

anything I love I love singing songs about America

That's what I mean.

I do, you know.

And if there's a way, sure.

I mean, I would

John Maino

buy a front row ticket to that.

Oh, man.

Who?

That'd be fantastic.

I'd love to do something like

John Maino

that.

I hope you do.

Put it together.

I mean, seriously.

Yeah,

John Maino

I mean, it's I don't know.

I would agree.

I think

I'm lacking words, but that'd be awesome.

I think you'd be phenomenal with that.

I would, you know, the pride would be amazing.

I'd be honored to do something like that.

Next year we're doing it.

I played taps before, you know, and with the trumpet, you know, for military, you know, stuff like that.

You do?

I have.

I have.

Because, yo,

John Maino

that's such a lost art.

It's incredible.

I would do it again, you know, if need be, if somebody wanted me to.

John Maino

That's really hard.

I was in an event.

I'm not going to say where, who, whatever.

And the guy just really struggled with it.

And he hate to say it, but it's, you know, it's, that's a really hard thing to play, right?

It drives me crazy.

It takes some skill, you know, it's like anything else.

Well, that's a tough song to play.

But it tries to mean not someone fought for this country and someone plays a recording of it.

I know.

It's a brother, man.

Todd, what do you

John Maino

got coming up, buddy?

Well, yesterday, besides the great rendition of America, the beautiful from Woody Mankowski, we had the one and only Big Mouth and the Power Tool horns in the studio, and they did a great version of the Star Spangled Banner.

So I feel like we should go out with that, right?

It's about two minutes.

Sounds good to me.

It's about two minutes long, so it's perfect.

We've got about a minute here to kind of wrap it up for the week, and we'll go out with that.

John Maino

OK, Daddy D Productions, thanks for your support of this great

thing that

John Maino

we

do

John Maino

every week, every Friday.

every Friday but Dennis this is always great having you here buddy

my pleasure to be

John Maino

here and now we appreciate everything you do like you can't believe and once again we just want to say to everybody and all the veterans and I know it's not a veterans type day or whatever but I hope you guys when when you see that flag going down the street with some you know club scout carrying it or something you know that we're all still 100% behind you like you can't believe

we'll be wearing our red white and blue with our band tonight celebrating you know our country's

Yeah, it's not going on,

but so we're all we're all in together and tomorrow morning Just so you know mine on the mayor special edition of operation song that'll be a three-hour special tomorrow morning in place of what you guys typically Awesome, you know I look

John Maino

forward to hearing that myself.

Yeah.

All right, folks We're gonna send it out have yourselves an incredible Independence Day have a great safe weekend like John and Kevin or sin if you're on the water, please be careful.

Yep Dennis Peters.

You're the awesomeest guy we've ever

Listen to this guy.

John Maino
