John Maino

Smith What a beautiful morning out there today

on the weekend nice, it's awesome

John Maino

nice.

Nice.

Nice.

Thank God the 4th of July.

I think we're in For a good week.

I mean, it's hard when you it's it's it's not a good year when you say, oh, thank God we're through with June I Said a record personal best

Personal worst.

I was just gonna

John Maino

say not you're

talking about before we came on.

Yes, that is not I would not call that a personal best

John Maino

personal

worst personal worst.

Yes, pw And there's no reason to do that in the summer.

That's a winter record.

No question.

That's a that's a Christmas record ladies and gentlemen.

Okay, let's hear

Hi guys, I can hear I got it someplace.

Where is it?

I gotta get the timpani roll

going.

This is and I want to

John Maino

I know, ladies and gentlemen.

On Friday, John Minow stood at his scale, naked.

Ugh, that's- And right.

What, you say it's not like a clothes thing, Jim?

Yeah, but I think that's the

John Maino

worst.

No, but it's like boxing.

It's like in wrestling you couldn't have anything on.

Trunks.

Whatever.

Okay, so whatever.

210 pounds.

That is actually

commendable.

John Maino

This morning, on Monday,

Same scale.

Same whatever, whatever.

Two hundred and twenty-one pounds.

Wow.

How does a person put on eleven bleeping pounds in one weekend?

And the heat and the, like I was telling you, the, what you eat, like this time of year is not like... It's good stuff.

Right, cause we...

John Maino

I ate, you know what I ate?

I ate nothing but strawberries all weekend.

Well, I don't believe that.

John Maino

I'll remember a few other things

too.

That's it.

But we

John Maino

had, we had like.

Had broccoli and sauerkraut yesterday.

Ooh.

John Maino

No, that's.

Can't beat that.

No.

And a summer shandy type thing.

Yeah.

You just, you

got it.

But you don't eat it all, eat it all day.

That's the

John Maino

problem.

Yeah.

We had.

The bruschetta.

You're right out of the

John Maino

garden.

Nice.

Nice.

Nothing better.

Nothing better.

That's really good.

Vicki says good morning, fellas.

Hi, Vicki.

Michael says good morning, gents.

I'm having dinner with Michael tomorrow.

Oh, yeah?

Yep.

Oh, nice.

John Maino

Nice.

Seen him in a

while.

Michael just texted, OK, I just threw up in my mouth after I heard John was naked.

John Maino

See?

That was worse than the 11 pounds.

I just said that because it's like, well, you were wearing heavy jeans.

Oh, you must have had your shoes on.

You must

have.

15 pounds away from my goal.

I'm going

John Maino

to

hit that.

I want to do it by my wife's birthday will not happen.

My doctor said that because that will not happen.

John Maino

So you're looking to put on 15 more pounds?

No, no,

John Maino

no, no.

Oh.

If I wanted to do that, I would call you.

And almost in a weekend, it'd be

taken care of.

John Maino

I can't believe that's unbelievable.

I laughed.

I literally laughed.

I burst out laughing because I was thinking, I bet I put on a couple of pounds.

I put on 11 pounds.

Medically, I don't know if anybody can do better than that.

Wow.

Yeah.

Would you drink?

John Maino

Hardly

anything.

Just water?

John Maino

No, you did not.

Actually, I will say this.

The best water I've ever tasted is from Manitowoc.

I was in Manitowoc all weekend.

They have good water.

We go to that artesian well.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

And you put it in a big old, like a Lamers chocolate milk bottle with those big, thick, heavy bottles.

And you put it there, it's so, I mean, it's crazy to say, whoever said, oh, that water tastes good.

This water is so good from that well.

We have like a raised garden, we grow mint, throw a few leaves of mint in there.

John Maino

Not bad.

It's good.

Yeah, not bad.

Yeah, and that's like great for you to drink.

Although I bought, what's that called, those little packets you

John Maino

put in?

Yeah, that I buy, yeah.

Yeah.

John Maino

Oh yeah, you're the one that turned me on to that.

Yeah, I did.

Well, Mark told us about it.

Mark Houston told us about those.

So that's where we got

those from.

I was getting tired.

John Maino

Yeah.

Yeah, those are great.

Yeah.

Got a text there from Terry.

Good morning, gentlemen.

Had a blast at the Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire this past weekend.

Oh, yeah, that's right.

Except for the damn rain.

I kept having the Woodstock chant in my head.

No rain, no rain, no rain.

Terry, how bad was it, Terry?

Yeah.

Yeah.

I went to a party and people said to say hello to you.

John Maino

Lenny's,

huh?

Yeah, Lenny's tap.

That's awesome.

So that place is on Broadway and Broadway in the last, what, 30 years has gone through renovation, 25 probably, 30.

And he has stayed the course.

And interesting guy who runs that place.

One of the, quiet guy, but one of the most generous people in Green Bay.

And he is celebrating obviously 50 years in business.

His first 45 years, get this tied, he was open every day.

It's amazing.

John Maino

Every day.

Every single day.

Usually people knock off on Monday or, you

John Maino

know, Monday to day.

Does he live upstairs or anything type of

thing?

No,

John Maino

he didn't

say that.

No, but, and he has just a very, very loyal Green Bay.

Right.

Green Bay crowd.

John Maino

That's old school.

You don't, that's, okay, when they talk about running a bar, that's a little neighborhood type of bar.

Yeah.

Oh, that's a neighborhood bar.

That's,

yeah.

That's a neighborhood bar.

And a little touristy because.

John Maino

Now, yeah.

Yeah, it's a

pub.

Yeah.

Right.

But, and he did the 50-50 raffle, his kids.

It was kids.

I mean, these kids are probably 28, 25 years old.

We're working the 50-50 raffle, and then you could bring canned goods or non-perishable goods for Salvation Army.

And the 50-50 raffle, the winner won 50.

The other 50 went to the new community shelter.

Oh, that's cool.

So generous.

He did the 50-50 raffle every hour.

So it was from one to six.

Great band.

And then he had his friends do the pig.

What's it called?

Sparkle.

Two of those.

Wow.

Right?

That sounds good.

And then, you know, baked beans and some other things.

And there were a lot of people there, I was just telling you.

And it was just free.

John Maino

That's cool.

And

he just won a party.

So he's a great guy.

I just want to thank in London.

And I don't think the listeners, too, that was awesome when they come up to you.

It's like, I voted for you, but it's like, I listened to you.

It's like, thank you.

We're doing.

That's

John Maino

cool, and that's why Todd the other day or the other day we got a little week Yeah, but we were going when we went to pickle some bags.

Yeah, and we're driving down that street And again, I always get a mix of was that Congress Street or Oregon Street or not?

Oregon Oregon

And it's like those neighborhood bars are still there in Oshkosh.

Yeah.

I just think that's so cool.

It's tough to preserve those

two because the neighbors are like, yeah,

John Maino

it's absolutely too loud at night.

People leave it.

So I mean, but for him for 45 years to never take a day off is that'll never, that's like one of those records that'll never be beaten.

And it was only

because of COVID

John Maino

that he would have stayed

the course.

Yeah.

Wow.

But I said to him, I just don't know.

I don't think people know how generous you are and he goes, I like it that way.

You know, it's perfect.

He's just low keyed and but boy does he do a lot.

So anyway, that was it's great to have him as a neighbor because we're right down the block from him.

John Maino

That's awesome.

Yeah, he's just a great business guy.

John Maino

And you'll tell you what that business that's chewed some people up the bar business for a couple or one is it's too easy to start, you know, drinking your own stuff all day.

You know, his kids were all just great.

Nick wasn't Nick's wife was there.

But Nick was fishing.

Oh,

John Maino

okay.

Oh,

John Maino

that's cool.

So then I met his nephew was there and some other people.

John Maino

That's cool.

Yeah, it was just a

great time.

Anyway, that was speaking.

I got onto that because of the weather.

It was perfect on Saturday afternoon.

John Maino

Yeah.

Yeah.

So anyway, whatever you got going here, 71 in Green Bay, 72 in Athens, 72 in Oshkosh, clouds and possible thunderstorms high in the mid 80s.

That's pretty much been the

forecast.

John Maino

Like Jude, hasn't it?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Every day, chance of thunderstorms.

Yeah, we have that this week, but I do think, yeah, there's a chance of it.

But when you look at, then they have the, when it's going to happen, it seems like it happens like really early in the morning.

I think the days look pretty good.

I mean, I was kind of

John Maino

feels great out there right now.

A little bit of wind, just perfect, beautiful day.

If you get out there, it is social media day, um, asteroid day, Corvette day.

I was never a vet guy.

Were you?

Oh yeah.

Were you?

I was a kid, a little kid.

Yeah,

John Maino

that was never my car.

My neighbor crossed

the street.

Really?

Neighbor crossed the street, who was like my idol.

Yeah.

Yeah.

He had Corvettes.

And I just, yeah, I just loved what, yeah.

Kathryn Lake

Really?

Okay.

Absolutely.

I was a

Corvette kid.

Yeah.

They changed a little bit, a little too much.

Kathryn Lake

A

lot.

Kathryn Lake

Too much, I

think.

We were a marketing major at St.

Norbert.

And Bill Dargan was, there's a scholarship named after him now, because he was there forever.

I just remembered him talking about it.

Well, we all know Corbett's nothing more than a penis on wheels.

John Maino

Okay.

That's what he said.

All right.

I didn't know that.

But happy Corbett thing or happy believe on wheels.

And it was

just like everybody knows that's like what we went

John Maino

on like a

status.

Kathryn Lake

Okay.

All

right, but that's not why I like them.

I just I could have left a little bit more space between those

two

things.

Happy Monday.

John Maino

It's all in the timing.

It's all in the timing.

Here we go.

Alright, Mike Tyson is 59?

He seems like he should be older, doesn't he?

Doesn't he?

He does.

He

does.

John Maino

He almost seems like one of those guys where it's like, you just, hey, you're about Mike Tyson.

But

he was up there though,

John Maino

wasn't

he?

John Maino

And I don't mean that in a bad way, but he's been through so much.

And he's

been to media a lot.

And he looks old too.

John Maino

I still say when they ask him at times, Mike, what are you going to do now that you like him?

I think I might just fade away into Bolivia.

He meant to say,

Kathryn Lake

I

John Maino

might just fade away to Bolivia.

Yeah, Michael Phelps is 40, Cole Swindell is 42, David Allen Greer is 69.

Boy, I'll tell you, a type of music that chews people up real quick is country.

I was watching a thing the other night.

These kids now, they're so young, and it's amazing how the older people, you know, they have, they have their, their reign, their kind of, and then these young, just move aside, move aside.

We got these young people coming in, move aside.

What

do you mean choose them up?

I think that's sustainable.

John Maino

You think well, it's a steeper what I'm saying is you know, it's like okay back in the day I mean I'll throw up some old country like Conway 20 right forever, you know

Well, but you look at like Reba and Garth Brooks right that

John Maino

right those two not

straight

But, but they can't even get records

John Maino

out anymore.

You can't, well no, I remember Johnny Cash.

I see.

Johnny Cash had the famous thing, or Billboard magazine, Foot with the Bird.

Just like no radio stations would play his music.

Yeah.

And it seems like it's getting that way now with these, these kids were so young watching this special the other night.

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

Yeah.

They're, but the whole.

Delivery is so much different, right?

It's not radio.

Isn't it all how many hits they get on YouTube?

And that's how they deliver the music knows a lot more about that than I do.

I just I just I don't know.

I don't know.

John Maino

You do cut.

Is that once this you're doing Georgia country?

Yeah.

Okay.

John Maino

That's got to be huge down there, huh?

I mean,

absolutely.

Yeah, absolutely.

But I get to do I do a program called lunch with the legends.

So it's all old stuff.

So I can go, you

John Maino

know, I can

play Breba and Johnny and I can play Hank Williams

John Maino

and all that stuff.

I want

That's a pretty

good one.

That's a pretty good name.

Lunch with the legends.

I would listen to that.

So it's on for what, two hours, 11 to one or something?

Just noon to one.

Noon to one.

Yep.

I like that.

You can't

do that.

Why?

It's mine.

That's a good one.

Give it to me.

And every day I do a legends jukebox where we drop a quarter in and it's tied into today in history.

Quick pull people.

John Maino

Who would you think should do that show, me or Todd?

Yeah, that's

John Maino

actually that's a good

one.

Todd.

Quick pull.

I like that.

My phone's

John Maino

blowing up.

Todd, what did you do this weekend?

You always get out and about.

Uh, so, uh, Saturday worked, right?

Got to get some work done.

And then yesterday we had an event in Oshkosh that W ISS was at.

So Lisa Hale, myself, Tammy, Peter were down there.

John Maino

Cool.

Yeah.

That's nice.

That was have good events on there, don't they though?

I mean, they just, they just do.

Yeah.

Was it one of those like kind of a neighborhood type thing?

It was at

the arena.

John Maino

Oh, yeah.

Oh, okay.

Well,

that's cool.

Standing on my feet for eight hours.

Those floors are so soft.

John Maino

Yeah.

Wow.

I still can't, is that hard to believe?

And I know you can say it's water weight and too much salt or whatever, whatever, whatever.

Um, but 11 pounds is that's pretty, that's quite the, that's amazing.

Wouldn't you say?

Yeah, John, I think that's a lot and the same scale though.

Yeah,

John Maino

that's what I mean That's why I mean it grows people out that I was I had okay I could put that image anybody's

head.

No, that's yeah Make me right now needles epic anymore.

Yeah, so um, yeah, I Okay, well you gotta get back at that.

I know what?

And tomorrow tomorrow, I'm

John Maino

gonna get for the entire weekend.

I cleaned the garage

So it's not like I did, you know, weird things, but just like cleaned the garage.

Oh, yeah.

You, I think you're missing something.

Do you take like ambient at night and then you get up and eat, you

John Maino

know what

you're eating?

No.

John Maino

I will say this.

Took cold.

Just this one time.

John Maino

Yeah.

Go ahead.

Took cold, some cold brats.

And at about one this morning, I was hitting those.

How many did you have?

Three, six.

Three, okay, and just the broader.

Did you have buns and stuff?

I never used buns.

Yeah

But there's a lot of fat Not 11 pounds.

I mean,

no, that's true.

That's unbelievable.

When's

the last time you use the bathroom?

John Maino

Are

you you're not backed up or anything?

No, a couple weeks during all that in there 624.

John Maino

He's ready to leave

You need to get back in the gym.

I know I agree.

I mean look, I'm not

Luxuring I'm not you're gonna hear from me, but I'm fighting my tongue for that.

Yep.

Yeah, it's coming

John Maino

I did I

did I still am that's why you haven't heard from me I but you will

John Maino

because that picture this Todd could we please get a new picture?

Yes behind I agree I would like a

new picture not I definitely gonna take a new picture.

He told me you know

He told me the holidays.

I'm like, I ain't waiting that long.

My doctor.

John Maino

Oh,

OK.

I said, look, I want to be at my goal weight by August 1st.

He goes, that ain't going to happen.

OK, OK.

When will it happen?

I'm honest.

Yeah.

And it was he didn't like pause.

Look it.

We don't that we're thinner than that.

Yes.

John Maino

Oh, you're much thinner than that.

No,

no.

But no, the one

John Maino

I

don't like was our promo picture.

John Maino

The one by the big the monument back.

We love Green Bay thing.

Yeah.

Well, that.

John Maino

We come on.

That's a bad one.

This is not good.

Do you do that on purpose?

No,

of course not.

There's there's a good one

John Maino

then.

You're a little.

That was actually not bad.

Yeah.

That one's not bad.

It's because it's not us.

Right.

Okay.

You know what?

Okay.

I hate to say this.

You know what I'm like addicted to.

If you want to call it that those when they do the things of the little people like.

It's like these, oh my God.

I, John,

I,

John Maino

I'm more addicted than you.

My,

when I look at how much time I spent on

John Maino

the

phone, it's over 50% is watching those little people.

So is this, it's people's

voices, but they make

it a baby talking.

Yeah.

That's what you guys are

John Maino

addicted to.

Yeah.

Whoever did that.

Whoever did that.

There's one doing my cousin Vinny, they're like, the youths and it's this little baby kid.

Oh my God.

Is that funny?

All AI.

Is that what that is?

Yes.

John Maino

All AI.

How does he or she that company making money?

I or is it I think that's hilarious like I would if you to subscribe to that for X amount I would I think that is hilarious because when they use

Kathryn Lake

those voices

man something is really His eyes that little baby little mannerism I know look right into the camera.

I know I know I'll see if somebody can make one of you guys okay, and that is that

is really funny and

That

John Maino

is really funny stuff.

And then they do Obama and just everybody.

It is really, really funny.

The judge.

That, yeah, that's, that is, like, what are you looking at?

John Maino

I know, I know.

I

love comedians, right?

I mean, I'll watch comedians for...

Right.

Sometime.

And that is right up to a

John Maino

three.

You know what's weird though?

I'm gonna tell you something.

I was actually thinking of you last night watching this.

There's one in the morning and you can't see.

And I was watching Jim Gaffigan thing.

Oh, man.

Not as funny as it used to be.

I agree.

I, you know, neither is Bill Burr.

John Maino

Right.

I mean, he's throttled it down a little bit.

A little too much political, too much about his kids.

But he's still, yeah, I agree.

I won't listen to him for...

an hour

John Maino

no I watched like for 10 minutes like yeah right okay switching this yep yep yeah isn't that weird that at a certain time some guys seem so funny and then it's like

I will tell you and I you know I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings I thought Nate Borgessi was okay you know what I

John Maino

thought I talked to other people that's exact how was it okay that's what I got for everybody I thought the

Guys

John Maino

that you got

me tickets

John Maino

met a

scalco

John Maino

was

better.

John Maino

Yeah.

Yeah, that's why I've heard to

and that was right.

Yo, I mean What Nate was a hundred bucks that ticket was a little bit 80 bucks or something but of course Todd gave me the ticket But I thought that and we it was Donna too.

I just thought it was it was funny, but it was okay So but you know

John Maino

these guys get so big and you can you can look them up anytime and watch his entire routine

But what they say is, it's like, I've heard that before, but if you went to a concert and didn't hear the oldies, you wouldn't like that.

John Maino

Right,

exactly.

So they want you to tell those same stories, but enough to deliver was slow.

I just wasn't into it like I thought it would be and I don't know, whatever.

It was, but I love comedians.

John Maino

Todd, will you let us know where that way?

Thank you.

Last year.

John Maino

Vinny says, Minos manual labor Monday.

Damn right, Vinnie.

Damn right.

Yeah, they love hiring people that gain 11 pounds

John Maino

on a

weekend.

Wow.

My head even looks big.

Look

John Maino

at my head.

I'm worried about

you, John.

He looks swollen.

John Maino

I do.

I look swollen.

That's a great guy.

My head is swollen.

The best word is swollen.

Wow.

How do you get rid of a swollen head?

Brots.

Oh my god.

Lots of them.

We got to send her a quick break back after this.

John Maino

Hey, thank you very much.

Welcome back and a beautiful Monday.

This might be the nicest morning we've had all summer.

That is the time.

Beautiful.

John Maino

Would say so.

Oh, how does it in Georgia right now when you do your stations in there?

Um Upper 80s lower 90s.

John Maino

Do you have to put in a little bit of a little?

No, I don't know.

Okay.

No,

all right

John Maino

Well, you know what I mean if you're doing a country station in Georgia

like yeah country, but their news is not

right,

but I mean

just kind of like Our news guy down there is pretty southern

really.

John Maino

Oh, yeah.

Is it really

a little bit?

John Maino

Yeah, I'd like to hear that kind

Because otherwise, remember in radio, well, you got, did you guys both go, no, you didn't.

You and, Todd, you and Dennis, didn't you both go to Brown Institute?

I did not go to school for radio.

Oh, you did go to, I thought you did.

I just got

John Maino

a

part time.

Murphy did.

Murphy did.

John Maino

Murphy went to Brown Institute and Dennis did.

Right.

Okay.

And with those kind of things, it's like, oh man, you had to be so, you know, perfect with your.

Hello.

Yeah, exactly.

Like you're not from any other area.

One of the

first things they teach you is it's not W, it's W.

It's not news.

It's news.

John Maino

Wow.

Yeah.

I remember one of mine was just what I went to that broadcasting class by, you know, a little station up WJP D lane Dawson WJP to get your little licensing and I remember the word diamond.

Okay.

It's anybody like it's diamond.

Correct.

Yep.

Diamond.

No, diamond.

Exactly.

Rush Limbo used to say with the February because notice the

But

John Maino

that was that kid that but that was the thing and remember there's a big thing about don't ever use you must sign this right now that you'll never use profanity ever in your life

Because it could slip out if it's part of your overly dialect.

Wow.

Yeah, that was a big thing Why

be screwed?

I think every radio announcer I know would be

absolutely, but that was one of them.

Did you ever make a mistake on there and say something?

No, not one of the bad ones I said the sh word one time.

Okay.

I had a comedian on who?

Wasn't doing much right?

And I said, so what's up with this bleep bleep?

Wow.

I

John Maino

don't think I ever did.

Oh, that's pretty.

John Maino

Yeah.

I'm impressed.

I am too.

Yeah.

I am too.

Oh yeah.

Here's another one.

Todd say sherbet, please.

Cause it is sherbet.

It's not sherbet.

It's sherbet.

Or

sherbet.

There's no,

there's

no second arm sherbet.

I

don't know

that

either.

I didn't know that either.

Yeah.

I would have.

Thanks, Brian for

reminding me.

Okay.

Hey,

Kathryn Lake

I

was gonna call you Brian I was to get his contact info that pasty that he gave us was

Kathryn Lake

all I

put it in the fridge.

I had it Saturday for lunch.

Yeah, did you put ketchup on yours?

Yes, so did I yeah, I did not I just ate it It was I ate and those were hearty those were good.

There's a lot in there and I was I do

I was going to text you and I didn't, but I ate part of it and I thought, ooh, I think some ketchup would really add

John Maino

a little bit to it.

So

Kathryn Lake

I, it was

probably half and half.

John Maino

That

was really, really good, Brian.

Thank you

John Maino

for that.

Brian

is awesome.

Yes, that was good.

John Maino

When Mino puts those glasses on, I feel he should have a chain on that and be playing Mahjong or Canasta.

can ask these are my you know what these are Todd I see what are those I they're here I don't know who's they are and I can't see like anything whatever it's like it's like it's like Vaseline over but I can read really good with them

that's weird because they look like they're glasses for far away I

John Maino

know and they're not but you know I feel like what's your name from the Matt was in the match game

Brett

John Maino

summer what's it Rodney say

That's what I feel.

Did you watch that show?

Oh my gosh.

Everybody watch that show.

Come on.

That

was like water cooler show.

Absolutely.

That was come home from school and

John Maino

sit right down in front of the TV and watch that whole thing.

Can you believe what's his name?

Who's the one guy?

Charles Nelson Riley.

All right, Richard Dawson.

Oh my god, and Betty White.

Yeah.

John Maino

Oh God, I don't love that

era of shows.

John Maino

Oh

my gosh, that's my favorite

John Maino

me to watch them.

I want to get I know there's a network to quiz Irving the

buzzer network has him.

Okay.

Yeah,

John Maino

I want to watch those old shows and they all dressed really cool.

That was back today's that have a big white tie that was striped in a plaid jacket.

Yeah.

Yeah

We talked about doing that one time.

I think that match game, if we got like some celebrities would be a fund fundraiser.

John Maino

I would be Gene Rayburn.

Was it Gene Rayburn?

Gene Rayburn.

Gene Rayburn.

We'd have to get you the microphone.

Oh,

John Maino

I think we should do that.

That's

coming back to the ABC again this summer, of course.

Right.

Who's the guy that did it just recently?

One of the Baldwin brothers, right?

Alec Baldwin was the host for a couple of seasons.

He got canned.

Now the guy...

He was on Saturday night live.

I can't remember his name.

Uh, he's doing that TV show with Steve Martin Now they kind of go.

Um, Martin shorts.

John Maino

He's gonna host

those commercials

home depot or whoever.

Yeah,

so he's gonna host it now.

Okay, cool.

All right Martin short was at the wide nerve.

I'll see.

He's funny.

John Maino

Good guy.

Yeah, great guy.

All right.

Yeah Well, give me okay.

Give me your top three not nice people of the big names.

You're loose

Jerry Lewis, okay.

I

can see

John Maino

that.

Me too.

I've had people that have worked the telethon with him and he's, yeah.

Dionne Warwick.

Yep.

Dionne Warwick.

Take a letter to Michael.

Take a letter to Michael.

Here I am in green base.

John Maino

Really?

Move the stool.

Easiest lighting show I ever did.

John Maino

Really?

Wow.

All

right.

Didn't work the

John Maino

crowd.

Who's your third?

So Jerry Lewis, Dionne Warwick.

Probably Lou Rawls.

Really?

Yeah, he was.

John Maino

That's

disappointing.

Yeah.

John Maino

Seems like such a cool laid-back guy.

No, he didn't rehearsal.

He wasn't very nice.

Wow.

You know that?

OK.

Can

John Maino

I be honest?

Yeah, I

have to think about it.

But I don't like the nicest people.

You know, Uncle Miltie.

You'll never find.

But then he teed.

Another one like me.

He was, his show was good.

Just the rehearsal, he wasn't.

Whereas DMO, I didn't think it was very nice to the crowd.

Well.

Todd, who are yours?

My number one is Frank Gorshwin.

John Maino

I love him.

Frank Gifford.

Oh, he was a jerk.

Oh my God.

Don't tell me that.

Don't

tell me I got this impression that he's like one of the nicest guys off

John Maino

stage.

Frank Gifford and Frank Gorshwin, two of my worst.

Frank Gifford, I can see.

I hate to say this, but Paul Horning might even be on that list.

I think he was, yeah.

Yeah.

Not nice.

Did not want to

be

there.

I would say the only one that really stands out to me was Eminem.

Really just because he was like four hours late to come.

John Maino

Oh,

yeah.

John Maino

Yeah You said Madonna was nice, right?

Very nice.

Didn't you get it out of her a little

bit?

There was a party or something like that for one of her albums and there was some stuff going on,

John Maino

but okay.

No, no something something something for the effort Yeah, I heard she's a lot littler than you would think.

Oh, yeah, they all are though.

Yeah, that's true.

Absolutely Absolutely

in politicians the nicest

Hands down Barack Obama.

John Maino

Oh really?

I believe that too.

I believe that.

Hands down, met my mom and then I met him at a different time because I was in like this VIP thing and she was upstairs.

He came down and said, I'm going to bring back, I met your mom upstairs.

John Maino

No kidding.

That's cool.

And

then met him in the White House.

I was wearing this tie that said Barack Obama.

And he, this is when he took out...

Uh, we're, we're at war.

He goes, you guys, we lost that game.

He goes, you guys sat Rogers too long.

Wow.

Okay.

We're at war.

John Maino

Wow.

And he goes, where'd you get that tie?

I said, I bought it for you.

And he goes, I said, would you sign it?

And he signed my tie.

So I still got that in the closet.

Like this guy was like, okay.

John Maino

What?

What?

Okay.

You know the code word though, right?

Regarding ties and politics.

Yeah.

You told me that.

John Maino

If somebody compliments your tie, it means bleeds ugly.

They're saying, because David Marinus from the, you know, Washington Post, he wrote the book on Bill Clinton.

The, what is it?

The, is it a biography when you don't have the person's permission?

So he wrote the biography on Bill Clinton.

Okay.

I think that might have been what he won.

The Pulitzer honors, but it wasn't favorable to say that.

Yeah.

So David's dad, who's a longtime newspaper guy in Madison.

He invited him to the correspondence dinner.

And they were talking and he goes, hi, David, how are you?

This is my dad.

Or this is my dad.

Oh, how you doing, man?

Hey, David, one quick thing.

And he goes, yeah.

Nice tie.

Which is him saying bleep you.

Exactly.

Yeah.

I'll show you a picture.

Bill Clinton, super nice.

George Bush.

Could have been nicer.

He was here the day before 9-11 remember that.

Oh was I didn't know that senior or

junior junior

all senior was awesome

Yeah,

yeah, he was

John Maino

nice.

He

was here the day

John Maino

before 9-11

Wow, okay Wouldn't sign anything.

I was like give me a break really that important, you know, I met him

John Maino

when he came into town one time.

He was here a

number of times, right?

You remember that doctor's house?

John Maino

Yes.

Yeah, that was, that was kind of a fun party, but yeah, he, but he tried being funny.

He was not funny.

He was not funny.

He said, you know, Laura told me not to say that.

You know, I'm here at the home.

I appreciate doctors.

So he's a, he's a brain surgeon.

I guess we don't have too much in common, huh?

It's just kind of like a plate.

Laura told me not to say that.

He always came across as like a college bro,

John Maino

didn't he?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Just Marva.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And then he was at, um, a place right across from Bay Beach.

It made those like, uh, what's the guy's name?

Made those like cartons.

Anyway, I took my daughter, Laura, cause, uh, Laura Bush was there.

He was there with Laura.

He was, um,

And then she signed a card to Laura, you know, to Laura from Laura Bush.

And I said, well, maybe you can take that to like, she won't tell.

And she's like, it's not even a toy.

She did not think it was that

John Maino

funny though.

And you think about it, it's kind of like in our line of work or two, you might have one interaction with a person.

And that will form their opinion on you for their entirety of their life.

That one interaction.

First impressions are

lasting.

But not just in this business, I think in life in

general, if you meet somebody

and you're like, right.

Oh yeah.

But it's, yeah.

Is that what you're blaming your situation on, John?

People have the wrong impression

on me.

No, I think that's in sales.

That's in everything, man.

Yeah,

John Maino

I would agree with that first impressions with that.

Yeah, you're exactly right But you know why it's one of those things too in in our business because we you know, we know who the Good people are and we know who the yeah, okay You just know because you work with them, you know, and you could put on such a persona You know in in this field.

All right, but How many times have you had to bite your teeth with somebody you know as a total home?

Yeah, whatever.

I think oh my god.

I love

Oh, I know.

Leap.

Oh, here's the nicest human being.

He's like, and you know, but you can't, you can't say

it.

Have you ever though?

Have you just like off to the side just once or twice gone?

Let me tell you some stories.

John Maino

Every time.

This is me you're talking to, I'm not like a normal.

Cause I

may have done the same thing

John Maino

a couple of times.

Oh yeah.

Well, let

John Maino

me tell you some stories about so and

so.

In the mayor's world, someone who I thought could have been nicer is Rom Manuel in Chicago.

I was talking to him and a lady came up to him with her son and obviously she wanted to meet him.

I wouldn't have bothered me a bit had he just was like...

really shoot her away.

Kathryn Lake

And

I was like, come on, come

Kathryn Lake

on.

Especially when

there's kids involved, right?

That would have been fine, but it means he's a 12-year-old, 10-year-old kid.

I was like, you know, and he's just like, I don't know.

I still

John Maino

say the biggest blow off of all time, Frank Gifford to me.

Frank, can I bother you for one second?

You already have.

I love that line.

I want to use that sometimes.

Someday.

Ooh,

John Maino

little Lurals here.

Yeah.

Oh, man.

This is a make-up song.

I think it was there for 8 days, 16 shows, so I just... Back

John Maino

before the days where I put out 11

pounds

Kathryn Lake

in a weekend.

Nice guy, not a good rehearsal.

If you see me walkin' down the

street, and I got you cry.

I have a good mood.

Woke up this morning.

The weather's perfect.

It's the 4th of July, short week.

Talkin' about the three people that aren't my favorites.

Thank you, Todd.

Boy, what a voice she has, though.

Oh, she's great.

She is.

John Maino

Welcome back.

The legend.

Todd, give me a good name.

She did not want a good name

John Maino

for what I just for my radio name radio name I'm the only person so I was just used my own name and radio Isn't that funny when you think about it a little bit, but it's very radio ask But I mean who think of who else was the last key because it used to be

The old school was, it shouldn't be any sort of ethnicity.

Yeah, they did that for, but now it's even big.

They want that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Like if you look at TV now, everybody has their own

John Maino

name.

There's

no

John Maino

TV names anymore, radio names

anymore.

It's almost like a plus if you have an ethnic sounding name.

Right.

Right.

Cause you stand out.

I

John Maino

hurt.

No, no, no.

I went, I talked to Crute two and a half years ago about this.

He said, look, whatever you're going to do, put your own name because he thought he made a mistake with his show not putting his name in it.

I don't even know what the name of the show was.

Devil's Advocates.

John Maino

He

said, I wish I would have put my own name in there because you should just, and I didn't, you did.

John Maino

But that was, why was that time?

Nobody used their real names back in the day.

Like in the 70s or whatever?

Yeah, I mean, it's just a show name.

A lot of actors and singers don't have their real name

John Maino

either.

Well, maybe

they

wanted to sell the brand.

John Maino

Well, I mean, what is the show?

I would say Country is more of that, like, you know, Shotgun or Charlie or, you know what I mean, Buckshot.

Yeah.

You know, those kind of things.

Or it's almost like a character type of name.

Yeah, that makes

sense.

Yeah.

I was thinking maybe a talk show would be more like, what are we talking about?

Revolution.

You know devil's advocate obviously that's gonna be against but I think

John Maino

Todd You go way back in this business.

Yeah, too Do you find that some people?

Do that almost for to get noticed a little bit like a name that really will stand like oh sure I mean it's branding right

spray.

Yeah What's recognizable exactly exactly and I think they're finding out that the now

John Maino

They're going back the other

are because that stands out right right.

They're going back.

What other way?

to back to their name.

I would use my name because then if you guys switch stations too, then your name carries the value.

John Maino

Yeah.

But I always thought it would have been cool to have kind of a cool radio name at one time.

But again, a lot of, like, I was given my name from Dan Stone.

John Maino

Really?

Right.

John Maino

Whose name is not Stone.

Right.

Exactly.

But he said, you know

what?

Your name is blah,

John Maino

blah, blah,

blah.

We're going

to go with blah,

blah, blah,

blah.

Like Animal House.

Yeah, same thing.

Same thing.

Just got a text from Brian.

You mean John Minow is in a stage name?

Okay,

John Maino

somebody help me out here.

Give me a date.

Give me a name I could use for radio in case I want to do a different show.

So what kind of radio?

So give us, that's like, is it country?

John Maino

Is it going to be rock?

Country.

Country.

Country or classic rock?

Those might only two.

It can't be modern.

Either one of those.

So I think you've got to go with Johnny.

Johnny.

Okay.

It's got to be Johnny something.

I would say truck and Johnny.

Trucking Johnny King.

I think people would throw no, no, I think they'd say leaping Johnny or something.

Oh, we'd

like

John Maino

drop the team.

Yeah.

Okay.

Sorry, John.

Didn't even think about that.

You got

John Maino

to be early for that, Jim.

It's not even 7 o'clock.

Hey, Jim, you know what?

You know, you don't have a you don't have a staff anymore, Jim.

Somebody vet that.

Yeah.

Okay.

If you were a fighter, I'd say Johnny Turnbuckle or something

John Maino

like that.

Like that'd be my wrestling name.

Yeah.

Yeah.

John Maino

How did that go did you hear I did I did not did isn't that something that picture that guy played high school football against?

That was scary.

Yeah, I

load that

John Maino

up anyway, but how funny is it?

He loaned me is here's this 400 pound guy and he loaned me his Rod Stewart cassette,

so I loaded it up on our stream yard Okay on a

John Maino

safe order Jim the guy behind him

74

John Maino

right

and here's what he looked like as a wrestler Yeah

Oh, this is a good one.

Brian is right on.

Dr. Johnny fever.

John Maino

Oh, yeah.

Well, I mean, I can't steal that though.

Well, you know, that show is still, it popped up.

You know, that's a cool thing about TV these days.

Dom hooked me up to get like prime, whatever.

And it had a thing on where it's all old TV shows.

And that's kind of cool when you can watch like WKRP.

I mean, those were fun shows in that era.

You know what I mean?

They were just fun shows.

Clean shows, whatever shows, it was just, I used to, when I was doing sports, if I went home to eat in between the six and the 10, it's like one of those shows would always be on.

And it's like every night there was, there was that one and it was the, what was it?

The Alex P Keaton.

Oh yeah, family ties.

Family ties.

I mean, whenever you turned on the TV at night, there was like a really good show you could watch.

There's nothing anymore.

Is there?

Are there?

Those kind of TV shows anymore.

I don't think so.

It's all streaming services and

John Maino

stuff like

that.

I think, I don't know.

I haven't watched a network show in

John Maino

that's what I mean.

The American idols of the world or whatever, whatever.

I hate

that stuff.

Yeah.

John Maino

No, I

hate that stuff.

I'd rather watch news PBS or something.

Yeah, me too.

Rather sit out on the beach and listen to meet the press.

I

John Maino

do.

I did.

I did that.

I love that.

Oh, absolutely.

Really?

That is my son.

John Maino

Just get old.

No, no, it doesn't.

No others.

And they could know.

Mm-hmm.

No, I just I'd love the cabinet.

I like

I love the

John Maino

cabinet.

We're just so different.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

I do.

John Maino

I do.

Okay.

John Maino

Yeah.

That's what I did yesterday.

John Maino

Okay.

We believe you.

Okay.

So we got Kimberly coming up.

Hey,

John Maino

but this is what you know, it's really good lineup coming up starting now.

And I tell you that festival foods that fire over the Fox, that celebration.

Yep.

There's a lot more than fireworks to that.

That's going to be cool.

John Maino

It's an all day thing.

I know that's going to be

really cool.

I don't know.

Are we swearing in people that day at the Liberty Bill?

Yeah.

I don't know.

John Maino

What

we've done, you've been there.

We've done that before.

I don't know if we're doing that on another Fourth of July.

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.

I don't know.

I'm going to read up on that before.

For

John Maino

like the Navy trip thing?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
