Jim Schmidt

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And

John Mino

here are your hosts, John Mino and Jim Schmidt.

Good morning, happy Friday, June 13th.

It feels like April 13th.

Oh man,

Jim Schmidt

that is cool.

John Mino

Maybe April, right?

It ain't nice 53 and 55 and Alton 54 and Green Bay high in the low 60s today mostly cloudy scattered showers Come on man.

We need summer.

We lost like a we lost a good month of summer if you could like, you know middle of May when it gets nice Haven't we

Jim Schmidt

yeah, I don't want a month, but it at least hasn't been consistent That's the problem.

It's been cold hot and come

Todd

on time.

But this weekend this week,

Jim Schmidt

but

You know, these graduation parties, you kind of hope it.

I know.

Absolutely.

And then, you know, I was looking ahead.

I talked to Brittany on Monday, but, you know, Tuesday, you know, Big Malt's playing at that park across the street.

You know, I hope you're coming to that.

But, you know, but the forecast was rain, like 70% rain.

Yeah.

So I'm like, are they going to call it off?

Or might they reschedule?

They're like, we're busy all summer.

There's

Todd

no rescheduling.

This is

Jim Schmidt

it.

So anyway, but it looks like it's going to taper up.

As long as it's gonna be 81, which is good.

Yeah, so all right, but anyway, this is cold these next couple days

John Mino

I remember we had Dom's graduation party and the night before it was the worst storm I've ever seen blow through I mean like I said, it was like the old movie twister when neighbor stuff was just flying through the air through your yard or I lived like on Grace Hill or where that that wind would just come up It was incredible.

Jim Schmidt

It was like build

John Mino

momentum.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Well, I mean you could see it just build as it would come up now and

And then the next day, it was 96.

Too hot.

Thank God we had one of those big tents.

OK.

But somebody actually brought one of those big.

Todd, what are the farm fans, the barn fans, to cool cows or something,

Todd

right?

John Mino

Those things are amazing.

Those things work great.

Oh, yeah.

They move the air.

But not in a way that it blows you over.

It just.

Those are I mean if people have outdoor vents where it's super hot.

I don't know where you'd get one

Jim Schmidt

right after we about that.

John Mino

No, I don't

Todd

but But was that to cool down the cows?

Todd will keep the air moving.

Yeah.

Yep.

Keep some cool air going.

John Mino

Yeah, those are amazing.

Yeah What work Todd, you know what I when I tore down this one barn this one time.

Yeah, I wish I would have saved this what were the Okay, two things were

They would have like there's this one thing.

It was in a pile of junk.

So I pulled it out, but it was like almost like it was a chicken with the arrow.

Todd

Yeah.

So whether they yeah.

Yeah.

Those are cool.

John Mino

But it also had wires coming out of it was or were those also lightning rods?

Todd

I'm thinking probably at some point it was.

Okay.

Yeah.

Was it like copper wire and stuff like that?

Well, it was

John Mino

coated, you know,

Todd

whatever.

But yeah, probably.

John Mino

I wish I would have saved that.

Todd

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

Todd

That's cool.

I love lightning rods.

You can sometimes you'll like be going through an old antique store or something like that and you'll find them with the glass ball still on them and stuff like that.

No kidding.

Put those in your backyard, Jim, in your orchard.

Those are collector items, huh?

Jim Schmidt

See that, you guys?

I just, you know, I see it's weed your garden day today, but hey, I went out to that orchard.

I'm doing it.

You're going to do the orchard?

I'm pretty sure.

I want to talk to the guy.

John Mino

What was there before?

Is there ever a house there?

Where I am?

Yeah.

Yeah.

In that lot?

Okay, then I'm metal detecting it before you turn over the soil.

I'll give you half of everything I find.

Jim Schmidt

You can have it all.

But this orchard, I look at the trees, the pears, apple, cherry trees, and the trees, they were good-sized and they'll bear fruit in like two years, which is perfect for me.

Well,

John Mino

okay, Todd, can you go back a couple of days, go Jim, one of our guys, Jim, Jim F. He put, he's very, very into, he did a big thing for you about two days ago.

or two or three days ago and we're really talking about growing things.

He put in there specifically the types of things you should grow and how long, I mean he had this thing down to a science.

He put it on our Facebook.

Jim Schmidt

You can find that.

I don't want to garden, Johnny.

I want you.

You don't have to.

It's all trees.

He was talking.

But he

John Mino

said this specific type of tree, exactly how long it would take if it's this big.

He had this thing down.

Jim, if you could send that again.

Jim F, I won't say last name.

Jim Schmidt

I'll

John Mino

get it here.

Jim Schmidt

Okay.

SPEAKER_??

Yep.

Jim Schmidt

Um Talk to the guy and I said, what's can I do this?

Yeah, you just got a watered a lot.

Look at that.

John Mino

Well, okay, let's pick it right there I mean it but I told you I screwed up my arbor vitis because he said I watered him too much Oh, yeah, I did say that.

Yeah, so it's and I had I know another guy out in Green Greenville and he'd help me but he and same thing and he goes, you know

I watered the hell out of those and they die.

Yeah, so there is a fine line.

I did get his car.

Just yeah, I I'm not kidding, you know, I planted trees one summer.

Jim Schmidt

Did you?

John Mino

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt

Like an orchard tree?

No, well, it

John Mino

was a couple of months worth up in Northern Minnesota.

Oh, it's where a forest fire had gone through and wiped out pretty much everything.

So they were replanting pine trees.

Yeah, right.

But it was easy.

You'd have this like spade type thing and you'd just, you know, stuff it in like that and just pull it back and you'd

Jim Schmidt

put in the

John Mino

thing and then stomp it down.

We planted like thousands

Jim Schmidt

of them.

No, this is going to be eight.

Oh, that's it?

That I looked, I measured between the trees.

It's going to work.

I think that's going to be like, I don't know if this works.

I'm not going to try it for three, four, five years.

If it doesn't work, I'll take them all.

But I just think that's because, you know, like your grandpa.

You want something cool at your house versus, you know.

Yeah, no question.

The other three I'm competing with.

Do you mow that now?

It's mowed.

Okay, somebody mows it, yeah.

And fertilizes it.

I mean, it's, so, yeah, I just, if we put those in space to mow it right, I think that could be, I don't know, I just think they're gonna like that.

Going over to grandpa's picking some stuff and, I don't know, that Donna can make

Todd

some

Jim Schmidt

maybe pie.

I'm not gonna argue with that.

We can be old fashioned, get the big old apron on and, yeah.

Donna's okay with that?

Call one of

John Mino

your

Jim Schmidt

grandkids shortcake.

John Mino

Give her a little

Jim Schmidt

bonnet.

Yeah, we're gonna do something.

I'm not done with the final presentation yet, but this guy was very helpful yesterday at Bellevue.

They did two of these orchards in Bellevue.

All I'm saying, Jim, is... The trees were like 150 bucks, but I'm gonna get a better deal.

John Mino

Okay, that was what I was gonna get

Jim Schmidt

at

John Mino

next.

You know, you can go buy some, you know, little seeds to

Jim Schmidt

grow your

John Mino

vegetables.

If they die, they die.

Big deal, you buy another pack of seeds.

When you're putting in that kind of money, I would have somebody that really has it down to a science when to water, how much to water.

Jim Schmidt

And...

get the tree so in two years it's it's good yeah I would rather spend a little bit more money get the mature tree yeah we went to pickles and bags

Todd

I saw the pictures

That was

Jim Schmidt

that place was awesome.

He's got that VIP lounge in there for parties and birthday parties.

I can't

John Mino

think of a better place to have like, okay, like I was talking

Jim Schmidt

about

John Mino

class.

What a great like class reunion place that would be.

You know, if it wasn't a huge club, but I mean,

Jim Schmidt

yeah,

John Mino

those pit that pickleball we put that was fun.

Todd

That's very cool.

It was interesting seeing you guys in action.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay.

Very much.

It was good.

It was good.

I got cancer in my face.

Yeah, that's right.

What about you, Jim?

I had the wrong shoes on.

I had the wrong shoes

Jim Schmidt

on.

Todd

How's that?

I

Jim Schmidt

was wearing sunglasses, too.

We're afraid to scuff up the cord.

I was going to go out to the car and get my glasses.

I'm not going to do

Todd

that.

That bar was

Jim Schmidt

pretty cool.

Todd

That's really nice.

Huge!

That place is really nice.

Beautiful.

Did you guys play Jeff a little bit or not?

Jim Schmidt

Yeah, I did.

Jeff's good.

I mean, he's really good.

John Mino

I did all right against him, though.

Jim Schmidt

Jeff's really

Todd

good.

Jim Schmidt

Our

John Mino

sales guy, Peter, is that the world's most coordinated human

Jim Schmidt

being?

No, no.

John wasn't very, John, you could have been nicer.

He's like, what?

He was, Peter was trying, and he was, he was like that.

Were you giving him health?

Well, he wasn't giving him health, he just, the kid was trying, like that kid at the playground.

He just told me to get off the court.

He did, he did.

Give me somebody else I can play with.

You did.

I did.

Anyway,

John Mino

I want to do that once

Jim Schmidt

I'm feeling

John Mino

up and up and running it is a really anybody in the Oshkosh area out in Oshkosh area You want to hold an event for your work party right anything like that?

You know those get pickles and bags in Oshkosh I mean you should see how cool the bar is they got like a lounge then with the coaches and tape VIP lounge It's great.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah good facilities and

Ample parking.

Oh, yeah, I'm gonna see a parking out.

No.

Yeah, so I thought it was those cool.

That's very nice indoors and I you know about the weather I'm telling you

John Mino

man.

I'm gonna start playing that

Jim Schmidt

Where were the bags?

I didn't see that

John Mino

We probably just pulled some out, you know,

Jim Schmidt

there's actually for

John Mino

that.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna

Distortion pulls them out.

Yeah.

So there you go.

Um, gotta hear we made it through another week.

Let's go fellas says Vicky.

Todd

Hi Vicky.

John Mino

Uh, you better not cancel Jim.

I'm coming too.

Who's that from Todd?

Todd

That's from Nick's Nick.

Cheese curd Nick.

He's

John Mino

coming over.

Todd

Yeah.

John Mino

Oh,

Todd

good.

Oh, good

Jim Schmidt

you.

I am.

Okay.

That's great.

Yes.

That's gonna be fun.

All right.

Here's how to bring cheese curds.

I mean, it's very basic.

I told you that Johnny.

It's, um, the hot dog bar.

John Mino

I wonder if, can you heat up cheese, like if he cooked a bunch and you have brawn, could you like microwave them and,

Todd

um, maybe.

I mean, at home, I wouldn't microwave them.

Cause the microwave just softens everything.

I don't want to,

Jim Schmidt

I don't want

Todd

him

Jim Schmidt

cooking.

Todd

I don't like.

All right.

All right.

So, all right.

I think, I think Mino's just asking for himself.

Nothing to do with my party.

Eric, put those in an air fryer.

Oh, somebody said that.

That's right.

Jim Schmidt

Somebody said that air fryer.

Um, no, it's, it's, it's that I'm going to make.

I make some awesome baked beans and spotted cow.

Nice.

That's it.

Nice.

I'm Julie Arts, Jim Arts, as you know, he's my every color.

He's not my father.

Yeah.

Yeah.

John Mino

What is there a term for that?

Jim Schmidt

His, my daughter is married to his son.

So what is he to me?

John Mino

He's your daughter's father-in-law.

Jim Schmidt

Yep.

But he's to me.

I know.

Okay.

What?

Is there a

John Mino

term for

Jim Schmidt

that?

They're bringing, they're bringing the dessert.

Nice.

So.

Nice.

That's what they called yesterday.

All right.

Today, by

John Mino

the way, ironically, is Weed Your Garden Day.

It is.

Jim Schmidt

There you go.

John Mino

Softball Day.

Nice.

Axe Throwing Day.

Jim Schmidt

Are those things still around?

I don't know.

There's one in

John Mino

two rivers, right?

There's

Jim Schmidt

two rivers.

There's one on Knight Street.

It's

John Mino

right across from the lake.

Really?

Is that Memorial Trail?

What's the, that goes from?

Jim Schmidt

Yeah, that's Memorial.

John Mino

Yeah.

There's one right there.

Jim Schmidt

Really?

Alcohol Axe Throwing?

Yeah, I know.

I think it's,

John Mino

I like it.

Have you done that?

Yeah, I had me just screwing around

Jim Schmidt

Wow, okay.

I want to try that all right I know because I thought that was for sure one of those like talked about riding the bull like yeah a fad yeah, but if it's still on a

John Mino

log roll I Don't know.

I think you're saying that

Jim Schmidt

up.

No, not me.

Remember I told you I was gonna

John Mino

log rolling.

Yep.

Yep sewing machine day people still so oh, yeah Oh, yeah, that was a big thing man back in my day where people would make girls would make their own clothes

Yeah, those patterns.

Todd

Okay.

What are you laughing about?

Because I have a fit.

Did you so?

Jim Schmidt

No, no, no, I just we had that but we say girls and we only said but that you're right the guys didn't really do that and no but

Todd

I mean

Jim Schmidt

but with

Todd

all I think more guys

Jim Schmidt

do now.

Todd

Oh, yeah, there's no

Jim Schmidt

doubt.

Yep That's what I was kind of laughing about but they those patterns and they put like the like just really like paper.

John Mino

Oh, yeah,

Jim Schmidt

yeah, yeah, you remember that

John Mino

exactly all over the house exactly.

Yeah

That's exactly it with the little pins.

Yep pins all over the place.

Yeah, the pat.

Yeah, no question about it.

That was the big thing making their own clothes.

Yeah, kind of brings back the memories of macrame days.

Todd

Yeah, a little bit.

Same

John Mino

era.

Yeah.

It's National Movie Night.

Nice.

Jim Schmidt

Nice.

Pete Schwabba can talk a little bit more about it.

Yeah, absolutely.

John Mino

You know, movies just.

It's lost it a little bit hasn't it though.

I mean remember in our era Where like a new movie would come out and it's like big news

Todd

because there's so many

John Mino

now

Todd

streaming and that's what I mean 20 screens it used to be one or two movies would be at a theater So it's like big deal, but everybody would go see it.

Jim Schmidt

It's also

Todd

there's more competition.

I mean,

Jim Schmidt

that's

Todd

what

Jim Schmidt

I'm saying Yeah, I'm talking about movies.

I'm talking about like The Meyer theater there's a lot to do right like if you're gonna do something on a weekend

I don't know if that movies would be on the top of my list with all the I brought today What's going on this weekend and just in Green Bay.

It's unbelievable

John Mino

Well, the thing is okay, so we had we had a little movie theater in my hometown Then what an issue between one Marquette, okay?

And like I think it was Thursdays when they would always have in the paper first thing you do in the paper What new movies

Jim Schmidt

around right and

John Mino

then if you didn't see them within like three or four days they're gone and you'll never see that

Jim Schmidt

What

John Mino

Jim submit your soil to was University of Wisconsin for a test that takes forever.

I've been waiting for three months

Jim Schmidt

Good idea Brian.

Wow.

I got till next year.

I can test that for you.

All right.

I got stuff I take care of it.

Well back to this weed or weed your garden.

Yes.

All right You know everything is something else the

John Mino

W word with you.

Jim Schmidt

We got to test that

John Mino

full slate of folks coming on folks back after this

Host

We're talking 97.9 FMWGBW, 98.3 and 96.5 FMW ISS in the Civic Media app.

And I'll tell you what, we had a nice time in Oshkosh yesterday.

I'm not even joking about that.

I enjoy that right down in the mornings.

Now, cause it's like- Yeah, I didn't

Co-host

like it when

Host

it was dark o'clock.

Was

Co-host

that

Host

cool?

Co-host

It's great.

But we were talking-

When you're gone, we had somebody come in from I don't swam across something.

She's like, oh my god I can't believe how aggressive the people are driving in the moment.

Host

Oh, well that

Co-host

yeah, but you know what people at 435 5th.

They're going somewhere.

Shannon (co-host)

Yeah, they

Co-host

got to get there, right?

Shannon (co-host)

I was your co-host Shannon.

Co-host

Oh, Shannon

Host

did you know what I

Co-host

and she came from so much when she goes She usually just goes to work at like eight.

Yeah, but she's like, oh my gosh.

I couldn't believe how and I was I noticed that yesterday, too I think people were kind of jockeying to get to where they were going

Host

I think 41 is worse than 43

Because the other morning when I had to go to Manitowoc early for my doctor's appointment It doesn't seem as everybody's going for I I'll put it on I put my cruise on 78 Yeah, and I just getting that right and I just not good a jockey in between yada yada yada, but 41 man You got to have your head on a

Co-host

swivel.

Well, it's it's narrower that and that's why when they widen it's gonna be great, but you're right.

It's

Yeah, you gotta watch what you're doing

Host

and the other thing is and I'll argue this till they close the casket on me The person driving down the highway in the right hand lane Okay, does not legally have to give the person coming onto the highway access the responsibility is up to the person

On the exit on the on ramp.

It's their responsibility to adjust their speed to blend into traffic It's not the responsibility of the person on the right.

Co-host

I mean come on move over.

Host

Why?

Why does it why can't the other person adjust?

Co-host

Because there's other cars behind them.

Host

No, no, no, no, no, no, no As a cop ask any police.

Do we have any police officers out there?

Any police officers

Co-host

professional courtesy?

Just move over man.

Host

I almost said the F word.

I almost said the F word

bleep courtesy when some ass is Coming in all air against screw you get out of my way.

I almost just gave a finger You

Shannon (co-host)

bleep

Host

you bleep you who's next that's my attitude

Shannon (co-host)

the password is yeah a hat

Host

That's just how I feel

Shannon (co-host)

All right, I I think there should be some responsibility there on both ends But what bothers me is when you're driving in the right handling.

Yeah, and you can't get over right there's other Right, that's different.

Yeah, and then you're you know what go I don't

Host

give a crap you have to ride in the solar I'll go I won't there's times I'll be honest with you and I'm not an aggressive driver, but I'll be honest with you There's times I thought okay.

You're gonna be a jerk about this.

You're just like expecting me to slow down I will go the exact same speed so go ahead drive on the shoulder for a while until you adjust buddy

Co-host

Boy, that talk about road rage.

It's not that's starting it though.

No, it's not.

It's it's it's

Host

called the safety responsibility.

Co-host

The safest.

Host

The safest traffic.

There's a name for it.

Co-host

The safety

Host

traffic.

I'm just

Co-host

saying at the same speed.

That's that's safety.

It's safety.

Whether you're going

Host

90, 60, any state police officers listening and then to make that all work.

Co-host

You don't want to do that slow down.

That's the accident.

Host

But if that's the OK, that's the state rule.

Why not follow the state rule?

Co-host

Well, the state rule, we should find people for big times hanging in the left lane.

That too.

Host

I agree

Co-host

with that.

Now, that's where I get a little bit aggressive.

Host

I

Shannon (co-host)

agree with that too.

People are actually texting in that word like it's our Scotty Summer word.

Scotty Summer word.

Ryan, thank you.

Host

Hey, that's one for the bingo card.

Shannon (co-host)

Exactly.

Write that one down.

Lisa and I were working on that yesterday.

Oh, yeah.

Host

Excellent.

Yeah.

We got to do that.

I know

Shannon (co-host)

we will.

Host

We got to come up with the bingo card thing.

We'll get it sponsored and it'll be great.

Yes.

All right.

Happy birthday, Mary, Kate and Ashley Olson.

They're 30.

99 years old they've turned out a little I

Shannon (co-host)

mean they

Host

made a billion dollars but a little

Shannon (co-host)

hard

Host

huh yep um Tim Allen is 71 does he still have a show he's he's had like nine different shows and he's the same character in every show

Shannon (co-host)

yeah I'm not sure I think he's got a new one coming out or they're gonna do a reboot or something like that of are they

Host

I don't know I get some he keeps coming up with these shows and he's the same exact character yeah with just other people around him

Boy, by the way, you know, that's where what's her name got her start.

You know who?

Shannon (co-host)

Oh,

Host

Pamela

Shannon (co-host)

Anderson.

Host

Yeah, Pamela Anderson.

Yeah.

Shannon (co-host)

Okay.

That's where she got her start.

That in MTV, right?

Or was, was she on, was she on home improvement before she was on Baywatch?

Host

Yes.

Yes.

I didn't know that.

That was her first.

Well, she was the Molson girl first.

That was where she was the Molson girl for Molson beer.

Then she did that.

All right.

And then, but here's the deal.

Have you seen her recently?

She won't wear makeup anymore.

Yeah, and she's unrecognizable.

Shannon (co-host)

I'm

Host

just so attractive and everything.

Yeah, but it realizes what makeup can do for

Shannon (co-host)

a person.

I mean really, it's incredible.

Are you thinking about maybe?

Host

No, but I will say this.

I used to get this a lot when I was on TV on a regular basis.

And you never quite know if they're giving you a compliment or a little bit of an insult.

Yeah.

Oh, you look different than on TV.

Yeah.

You know what I mean?

Like, oh, thanks.

I'm better looking.

Shannon (co-host)

It

Host

could be a weight.

Something.

But you get that a

Co-host

lot.

Yeah.

Tim Allen, though, I told you that I met him.

He's a huge Lions fan.

Host

Yeah, well,

Co-host

yeah.

And he's got a box right next to the mayor.

Oh, OK.

His box is like, you know, there's really very little glass in between.

You can just look over there.

But anyway.

Met him after the game and he was really true notice kid for not being

Host

home

Co-host

But very cool guy anyway, yeah, he's huge Lions fan.

Host

Yeah.

Co-host

Yeah, but you're right He's kind of typecast exact

Host

same guy all the time, but if you're making money doing it, exactly right?

He was in Jackson Prison.

Yeah, it's Jackson Prison, Michigan is a bad place.

Yeah, whoo very bad place

And he, he was there, my buddy's there, my buddy's there for life.

And I've seen pictures of him since, kid he went to high school with.

And he just looks like he's gotten hardened.

Co-host

But he rebounded from that, okay.

Host

Yeah, absolutely.

So

Co-host

these guys don't.

Right.

Yeah.

Anyway,

Host

yeah.

Isn't that kind of bizarre when you think about the coke back in the day and you go to hardcore killer prison versus, you know.

I know.

Co-host

I know.

Host

Yeah, yeah of all the things that people do to each other.

We uh

Co-host

Yeah, we could refocus our energies to worse.

Host

Yeah.

Co-host

Yeah, I

Host

would agree Richard Thomas John boy Walton 73 never did much afterwards, huh?

No, no and again if you

Shannon (co-host)

don't have

Host

to why

Shannon (co-host)

do it?

How many you got to

Host

think about this?

So how many times could he if he goes to a ball game?

Oh

Co-host

god.

Host

Hey John boy.

Good night John boy.

SPEAKER_??

Oh

Co-host

Can you imagine how many people say goodnight John Boy to him?

Host

That drove Bob Euker crazy for all.

Hey Bob, you're in the front room.

Hey Bob, you're in the front.

Yeah.

What would people say to me that would bug me after all?

Bleep you.

Hey, hey bleep

Co-host

hat.

You look marvelous.

They just, they get me.

Scotty

Yep, the Scotty summer text to win statewide contest.

Today is the final day for your chance to win a pair of Milwaukee Brewer's club level tickets or $100 cash plus every entry puts you into with the grand prize drawing.

How about a trip to the Wisconsin Dells area?

Or how about a trip to Door County?

Got the word coming up after seven o'clock this morning.

The Scotty summer text to win statewide contest with your good old radio pals, John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

Jim Schmidt

Hey, welcome back.

Got a text here from Vicki to Mountain's new show is called a shifting gears.

Thank you Vicki.

Thank you very much.

Vicki's awesome.

Yeah, Ty.

When we got questions about things, she's awesome.

She also said celebrities are also fault failing in society and that could attribute to lack of interest in movies.

I think so too.

I do too.

Yeah, I kind of do too.

And then that's one of the reasons that we're not listening to Lisa.

Lisa Hale anymore.

She's falling.

She's so failed us so badly yesterday because you're so mean to us and gosh.

She's

Lisa Hale

gonna

Jim Schmidt

put us on ignore Lisa.

I mean, Lisa.

Hi, Lisa.

Lisa Hale

Hi.

Jim Schmidt

How

Lisa Hale

you doing?

Jim Schmidt

How you doing?

Lisa Hale

I'm doing real well.

You know, you mentioned movies, but I have to say, nerds, geeks, people who love to laugh everywhere yesterday got such

Scotty

a. Oh, yeah.

I heard about that

Lisa Hale

boost and we're so looking forward to 2027 because there's going to be a new Spaceballs movie from Mel

Jim Schmidt

Brooks.

Is Mel Brooks still alive?

He's going to be close to 100.

He was in World War Two veteran.

Yeah, he is.

He's close.

Oh my God.

Unfortunately, John Candy won't be there.

Lisa Hale

Right.

But.

Pullman is coming back and so is Rick Moranis.

So I'm so excited.

I could just TT.

I mean, it is that exciting to make.

Jim Schmidt

We never gonna comb the desert report.

What did you find?

But nothing, sir.

How about you?

Nothing, sir.

How about you?

Man, we found.

I love spaceballs.

That's one of those movies.

It's like I was talking, if you watch 10 minutes with Lethal Weapon, whichever one it was, remember a couple of weeks ago, and it said, I laugh more in 10 minutes watching this movie from 30 years ago than any movie that you could put out right now.

That's, I've never seen spaceballs, but you know

John Minow

what

Jim Schmidt

I mean?

where it's just certain.

Oh,

John Minow

you don't have the weapon.

Jim Schmidt

No, no,

John Minow

no, you're talking about

Jim Schmidt

naked gun, naked gun or which was a takeoff of lethal.

But it was a spoof or blazing saddles, which is his, his stuff.

That's all you want to laugh more in those 10 minutes than any of these other funny.

Scotty

We just got a text from Nancy who says Bill Pullman will reprise his role as Lone Star.

Oh, and his son Lewis will join as his son in the movie.

His name will be starburst in space.

Jim Schmidt

Nice.

Scotty

She's excited about that.

Oh, man.

Lisa Hale

I'm telling you, I'm so excited.

I that's just one of those movies that I've never

Jim Schmidt

seen either.

Well, you don't need to.

No, you don't need to watch the whole thing.

It's like any of those movies you watch 10, 15 minutes at a time.

Kind of like airplanes.

Same thing.

Because it's gag after gag after gag after gag after gag.

Really?

It's as funny as airplane.

Oh, there's some funny.

I

John Minow

mean, all right.

I watch it.

Jim Schmidt

It's probably what 30 years ago it came out and I can still recite 10 lines from it verbatim.

John Minow

That's good.

Lisa Hale

Yeah.

All right.

Yeah.

Spaceballs is.

is right up there, you know, with me.

Jim Schmidt

You know how fast I was going yesterday coming to Oshkosh?

Lisa Hale

How fast?

Jim Schmidt

Ludicrous speed.

Lisa Hale

I knew you were going to say that.

Jim Schmidt

You're going to just go on and on with that movie.

I love it.

I enjoyed meeting at your place again yesterday.

Lisa Hale

It was nice having you guys here.

It's

Jim Schmidt

fun.

I really like it.

Great people.

And then we went over to Beggs.

Pickle and Beggs.

Pickle and Beggs.

What a neat place that is right at Congress Street in that big like almost like a strip altar.

No, it's not a shopping center.

Yeah.

Shopping shopping center.

Lots of room.

Lisa Hale

It's on it's on 20th and

Jim Schmidt

Oregon.

Oregon.

John Minow

I'm sorry.

Oregon.

Your

Jim Schmidt

buddy was on Congress.

Yes.

Oregon Street.

Yes.

Lisa Hale

I was going to say.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

No.

Yeah.

Lisa Hale

So close to my house.

It's

Jim Schmidt

no closer to 20th.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But that's that is that was

John Minow

that was that

Jim Schmidt

was was

Fantastic.

Yeah, we loved

Lisa Hale

it.

It's a great.

That's a great area.

Jim Schmidt

I'm going to start playing that sport.

I think we'll be pretty good at it.

Oh, gosh.

Oh, Lord.

I will tell you that area is nice.

It's clean.

The roads are good.

I mean, it did some work on that.

Some cool neighborhood bars.

Did you notice that?

Yeah, I just I mean, you got a new

Scotty

drive.

Did you drive down Oregon?

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

Scotty

And you went right past Pete's garage bar.

Lisa Hale

You sure did.

Oh, you're kidding.

Nope.

You went right past it.

If you drive, if you drove down Oregon to get to 20th, you went right past

Jim Schmidt

Pete's garage bar.

I'll be damned.

We left your place and took a left.

Would that have been open?

Probably not.

Right.

Yeah.

And we're

Lisa Hale

not at your time.

Probably not.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

SPEAKER_??

Could have called.

Jim Schmidt

Wow.

But there was like those nice little neighborhood type bars that I talk about

Lisa Hale

all over the place.

Jim Schmidt

When I own one of those, they live upstairs of it.

It's been phenomenal.

Some day.

Yeah, you want to work for me?

Lisa Hale

Sure.

Sure.

I'll be your bar back.

Scotty

Thank you.

She'll make pies and stuff too.

Oh, that's right.

That's a cat eight.

Lisa Hale

Stop talking about cat lick pie.

Jim Schmidt

Oh, that actually sounds like some cat lick pie.

That's

Lisa Hale

what we called it.

Jim Schmidt

We'll have that on the menu, Lisa.

Lisa Hale

Oh my gosh, I am not the best cook.

I love food, but I am not the best

Jim Schmidt

cook.

Well, that's all right.

So what's going on this weekend on your great show?

Lisa Hale

New WISCO weekend this weekend.

It's of course, Father's Day is coming up Sunday.

By the way, if you guys haven't noted that, you might want to make a note.

Jim Schmidt

Is it Sunday or tomorrow?

Sunday?

I thought it was the 14th for some reason.

It's always Sunday, John.

I didn't know

Lisa Hale

that.

Just like Mother's Day, it's always on a Sunday.

Jim Schmidt

Did they change that?

Never.

No, no.

Okay.

All

Lisa Hale

right, it's always in there.

Um, but this weekend's Father's Day, but it's also flag day.

As you know, tomorrow is flag day and we really talk about flags all over the place.

American flags.

Yes.

Our cover story is Fly Me Flag up in Green Bay that is a

They're considered the flag experts.

So they can teach you everything from how to care for your flag, when it's time to retire the flag, what to do, all that stuff.

And it's a wonderful interview with Stacey Stewart from Fly Me Flag.

Jim Schmidt

You know, I know a few of those types of things.

And one of them is, you know, a lot of people, it was like, well, when the sun goes down, you got to take your flag down.

You don't have to if you have a light on it.

Lisa Hale

Exactly.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

Lisa Hale

Exactly.

As a matter of fact, I worked at a

TV station once that had a huge flagpole and a huge flag and we were very What's the word I'm looking for I don't we were very obsessive about making sure that light was always

Jim Schmidt

yeah, yeah, yeah, that's yeah, that's the one important thing

Lisa Hale

Yeah, and I remember that that was part of my job was to check the light every night,

Jim Schmidt

you know a little thing I collect when I go to I don't go to garage sales much or anything but

even flea markets are anti I always try to collect 48 star flags

Lisa Hale

if you can find them

Jim Schmidt

yeah they're hard to find and you know the way you can tell the difference is they're completely symmetrical they're completely a rectangle whereas obviously in the you know the 50 flags they're off-spaced but they are completely boom boom so they're 49

40

John Minow

I've never

Jim Schmidt

seen a 49.

I know this 48 for sure right 40.

I want was there ever a 49 star flag Well, how close for

John Minow

those

Jim Schmidt

two?

I think a few months.

We're only a few more than I doubt it.

That's a good

John Minow

boy would

Jim Schmidt

that be a collector's item?

Lisa Hale

Wow What year did we go to 50 stars?

Yeah, you got it.

Jim Schmidt

Thank you over there.

Lisa Hale

That's our little trivia guy.

Jim Schmidt

That's

John Minow

what

Jim Schmidt

we

John Minow

do

Jim Schmidt

here.

John Minow

John

Jim Schmidt

is in school.

He's graduating.

What else is coming on in Whiskey Weekend?

Lisa Hale

We've got a story on the Oshkosh Farmers Market.

We did a story on that.

It opened up last weekend, and it's continuing, of course.

And this week is Tomato Mania there.

We've got a story on Historic Point Bot.

Boss, is it boss or bossy?

In central Wisconsin.

Anyway,

Jim Schmidt

we've got to

Lisa Hale

know that.

We've got

Jim Schmidt

to

Lisa Hale

know

Jim Schmidt

Todd.

Todd.

SPEAKER_??

Todd.

Lisa Hale

We also talk about other flags too, you know, like the Jolly Roger, like traffic flags and stuff like that.

So it's a really, it's flag focused.

Jim Schmidt

Awesome.

I love it.

I absolutely love it.

Scotty

And what time is it on Lisa Hale?

You know,

Lisa Hale

it is on at eight o'clock on Saturday and 11 o'clock on Sunday here at WGBW and W ISS.

Scotty

And of course, the Civic Media app

Lisa Hale

and the Civic Media app.

Scotty

Let me do a segment.

You've done a segment.

You were

Jim Schmidt

a

Lisa Hale

cover story a couple weeks ago.

Remember Memorial Day.

Jim Schmidt

Not the first time I've been a cover boy.

I'll tell you that.

Oh,

Lisa Hale

God.

I'm sure it was.

How about

Jim Schmidt

a centerfold?

Had to work my way through college somehow.

You know what I mean?

Yeah,

Scotty

and Jim on Sunday, what would you got coming up on?

Jim Schmidt

Oh my god.

Hey, wait a minute.

I got back up with something here talking about being cover boys back today.

Oh god Do you see Jim's picture of when he auditioned for a boy band?

No show the picture he showed me today in the striped little short shorts No,

John Minow

Jim Schmidt

no, that was the bell in he's looking like a boy band member on that.

Okay.

I got this is my this is my flag day picture.

Oh

Oh, look at that.

Can you put that up to the camera here?

Put it right there.

This is... Amanda wanted pictures of John and I and Pete, right?

When we were young dads.

No, I wasn't asked for that.

Yeah, you were.

No, I wasn't.

Yes, you were.

When?

And that's why I got... When?

Scotty

Yesterday.

Jim Schmidt

So... Oh, I said they wanted pictures of our dads.

Anything you want.

You as a dad, their dad.

Oh, yeah.

Scotty

I could find that.

We'll do it.

Jim Schmidt

Okay.

I did that this morning.

But this is my Father's Day flag day.

played up a little bit.

Oh, that's cute.

John Minow

Oh, that's cute.

Show the shirt shirt.

And that's Anna, who's 32 now.

Show him the

Scotty

bell

Jim Schmidt

and

Scotty

picture.

Show him the bell and picture.

So that was that wasn't you as a child?

I thought that was you as a child in

Jim Schmidt

your dad.

Scotty

That that's me holding Anna.

Oh, wow.

Yeah, she was.

She was.

Jim Schmidt

That's

Scotty

sweet.

White picket fence and everything.

Jim Schmidt

Oh, that I know.

That's America right there.

Right.

With and with a sheepdog.

We were I'm telling you that.

was the perfect.

You

John Minow

are

Jim Schmidt

white bread and egg salad.

John Minow

A glass

Jim Schmidt

of Tang.

Lisa Hale

A mayonnaise.

Jim Schmidt

Absolutely.

But I knew we were having the, um, that's an old Saturday Night Live thing.

I'm going to make you kids some nice egg salad sandwiches on white bread with a glass of Tang.

God.

John Minow

Remember that one,

Jim Schmidt

Todd?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Bill Murray.

All right.

Gilda Radner.

Do you have your short shorts?

John Minow

You

Jim Schmidt

just showed it to me two seconds ago.

These are some of the shortest shorts.

No, it was the

John Minow

they'll be

Jim Schmidt

banned.

I don't know John too much skin the We're gonna be tied by the bell in this morning That is why I brought that picture.

Okay.

Um, yeah, you just had this is this is back same house

Scotty

All right, let me pull that up here stand by

Lisa Hale

I

Jim Schmidt

know it just says back in the day.

Anyway, that was I really enjoyed this morning.

I get up

Scotty

James, what do you got coming up on Lean Local?

Wow,

Jim Schmidt

that was funny.

Nothing to beat that.

No, we really... Wow, that was funny.

We just we just totally lean into the coal pile.

That's a big deal.

We've been working on it for 60 years I worked on it Paul worked on it Sam Romy.

We all worked on it finally got done this week.

So Dean Hain came on He's the port director.

He's been on our show before and just talked about the the economics of relocating those and how we can get more product on the port and you know that port employ 1600 people does 217 million dollars of annual revenue

That's a big business here in Green Bay, you know it so he talks about that and then Brian Johnson who that's his district president of the city council Talks about when the coal piles moved and they will in a couple years.

What's gonna happen on that land?

So it's both things, right?

It's what's gonna happen to the poor.

John Minow

I'm

Jim Schmidt

really excited about that land that it's like I said it sent Tata like a block They can't screw this up, right?

There's no do over on that.

No

They got to get the right.

I still think it could be the greatest music venue in Northeast, Wisconsin That is

Scotty

coming up on Sunday

Jim Schmidt

Sunday at one.

Scotty

Yep one o'clock, and you'll also be able to see a blog on that Jim gives his thoughts on it at WGP

Jim Schmidt

Tell everybody one more time what it is.

Lisa Hale

Newisco weekend, Saturdays at 8, Sundays at 11 on WISS and WGBW.

You're gonna love it.

Jim Schmidt

You got some really talented people on that show.

See ya.

John (Contributor)

Okay, Todd.

Todd, that was magnificent.

That was funny.

I sent you the picture too, Todd, just so that, you know... Yeah, I'm gonna pull it up and put it on

Unnamed Contributor 1

the

Unnamed Contributor 2

wall.

Yeah, right above my bed.

Unnamed Contributor 1

But that went right past my house.

I used to run down Eliza Street about the bell, and I did.

Unnamed Contributor 2

I don't know what happened, but anyway, we just got a text from Michael who says I'm trying to get that picture of Jim and the shorts out of

Todd (Co-Host)

my Then he asked if he ever sported a

Unnamed Contributor 2

mustache.

Todd (Co-Host)

Yes Did you I've never seen a picture of you in a mustache?

Yes,

Unnamed Contributor 1

I had a mustache for like yes, I did wow kids didn't like it Wow, okay.

All right.

Yes, I tell you when Amanda sent that

but yesterday afternoon, right?

And then I, it's stuff to do last night, but I got up this morning, you know, 330 and that is fun going through those books.

Vinny Vincenzo (Host)

Oh, I mean, I haven't done

Unnamed Contributor 1

that in years.

And I said it down where are they?

Oh, downstairs.

And, um, but I didn't know there were pictures because I have some pictures of me and my dad.

I wish I didn't read it that way.

I read it pictures of us and our kids.

Todd (Co-Host)

So I read it just pictures of our dad.

Unnamed Contributor 1

Nope.

Todd (Co-Host)

Anyway, you want to do it.

All right.

I'm next year.

I'm

Unnamed Contributor 1

sending some pictures of

Todd (Co-Host)

my dad.

Unnamed Contributor 1

Okay.

All right.

SPEAKER_??

Cause.

Unnamed Contributor 1

Yeah, anyway, that was I really enjoyed that this morning.

There's a lot of fun doing that.

Todd (Co-Host)

Absolutely.

Good morning, fellas.

Vinnie Vincenzo.

What's going on?

Good to have you joining us.

We've got a great lineup coming up today.

Todd, run through our little lineup here.

Unnamed Contributor 2

All right.

So coming up in just a bit, Roland Schmidt's coming in.

He's going to talk about the medical side of the bell and run.

That'll be part of our amplify health segment.

Mike Byers coming out from Operation Song.

We've got the Blizzard military event coming up and we're going to actually play one of the songs that they're

Unnamed Contributor 1

going to feature.

That is coming up.

Have you been to that at the Blizzard game, that military night?

Todd (Co-Host)

I have.

Yeah, that's awesome.

I've also been to one of their, oh, you put the picture on, that's awesome.

Okay, Donna looks about 14 years younger than you.

I mean, if you said that was like you and your daughter from years ago,

Unnamed Contributor 1

wouldn't it though?

that military night that starts

Todd (Co-Host)

outside, you

Unnamed Contributor 1

know,

Todd (Co-Host)

at four o'clock and something.

Blizzard does a great job with that.

And those operations song things are just fantastic.

Unnamed Contributor 2

That's good.

Yeah.

So we'll be, we'll be doing that.

Danny Bames joining us along.

I believe Nikki's coming in this morning too from Papa Murphy's.

They've got some stores in Northeast Wisconsin.

Absolutely.

He's grilling some pizza.

He wants to talk about how you can do that for Father's Day.

I've never heard of grilling pizza.

We had some last night.

Really?

Oh my goodness.

Oh my goodness.

So what kind of a grill do you use?

Charcoal or

Todd (Co-Host)

a grill gas?

When you saw it sitting out here, right?

Is that charcoal?

So we did charcoal last night.

Wow.

So you're gonna have time to get the charcoal going?

Yeah, absolutely.

Oh

Unnamed Contributor 2

yeah.

Oh yeah, we had like three pizzas going

Todd (Co-Host)

last night.

I've never had that.

Me neither.

It solves great though.

Unnamed Contributor 2

It sure does.

So we're gonna have him on and then later on the Daddy D's production live music series, there are new sponsor

Todd (Co-Host)

of our live

Unnamed Contributor 2

music, is American Honey.

Todd (Co-Host)

Fantastic.

So be sharing some

Unnamed Contributor 2

music from the Daddy D folks themselves.

Todd (Co-Host)

Nice.

They're amazing.

They're fantastic.

Oh, it's like a fun morning, man.

What a great lineup of guests.

Unnamed Contributor 1

And then we have this weekend, there's like I said, a ton of stuff going on Father's Day, Botanical Gardens.

I mean, you saw that and all the free stuff for dads to do.

But Saturday is Juneteenth, which is the big deal.

That's getting more and more popular.

And that this year, it starts with a parade at 1030 at the BLM.

And right here on Washington on Webster in Green Bay.

I'm sure they're doing this in Oshkosh and Appleton and everywhere else But and then that goes to joining's park and what kicks off at 1130, but our friend Neil is singing

Todd (Co-Host)

Yeah, let me get back up real quick When's kids day remember you started kids day 25th.

Oh, that's okay.

Oh, that's right.

It's Christmas

Unnamed Contributor 1

six months to Christmas.

Yeah, so we'll we'll have the you know the mayor the day

You know, they do this contest.

And then the 24th is our two year anniversary.

Wow.

Right?

24th or 25th?

24th.

I think it's the 25th.

Oh, OK.

Same day.

All right.

Wow.

Anyway, so that's, that's coming up.

Todd (Co-Host)

It's apropos kids day in our anniversary.

Same.

It's like Todd dealing with 11 year old babysitting.

Right.

Right.

For two years.

So I'm taking vacation off during the anniversary here.

I don't blame you.

When did you stop running the bell in?

Unnamed Contributor 1

Well, I lived on, like I said, I lived on Eliza and Roosevelt, which is that.

It

Todd (Co-Host)

was

Unnamed Contributor 1

an awesome house where I picket fence and it ran right by there.

So

Todd (Co-Host)

I,

Unnamed Contributor 1

I got, I do have a picture of me running.

I saved that one.

Todd (Co-Host)

In those

Unnamed Contributor 1

shorts?

No, there's different shorts and blue shorts.

Vinny Vincenzo (Host)

Okay.

Unnamed Contributor 1

Thank God.

Yeah.

I mean, I don't know.

Probably.

Yeah, I don't know, John.

Todd (Co-Host)

That's a good question.

They should bring back.

I used

Unnamed Contributor 1

to run with my sister

Todd (Co-Host)

too.

I think they should bring back the old coaching shorts.

Remember the coaches shorts?

They're polyester.

They were longer and they kind of came up.

But if you ever watched the movie Dazed and Confused, it was set in like 1975, or it's set in 1976, because on their last day of school, the teacher says, just remember in celebrating our bicentennial, you're celebrating a bunch of really rich white landovers who wanted to keep their slaves.

Unnamed Contributor 2

They're bike shorts, bike.

B-I-K-E, it's a brand.

It's the same as like the jock straps.

Todd (Co-Host)

You're

Unnamed Contributor 2

right.

And they were polyester, and they'd pull them up over their gut, right?

Todd (Co-Host)

Exactly.

Unnamed Contributor 2

Yeah.

But

Todd (Co-Host)

they

Unnamed Contributor 2

would tuck things in.

Yeah.

Well, that's what

Todd (Co-Host)

I'm saying.

I know.

I think they should bring those back.

SPEAKER_??

Yeah.

Unnamed Contributor 1

There's some people.

Todd (Co-Host)

I'm in fan of that.

Instead of having to get

Unnamed Contributor 1

over, it's

Todd (Co-Host)

more

Unnamed Contributor 1

enclosed.

Unnamed Contributor 2

Yeah.

If you look at old coaches' pictures, man, I would never be caught dead in those things.

They'd have knee-high socks.

I would wear gym shorts before I wore that.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_??

Yeah.

Unnamed Contributor 2

But,

Unnamed Contributor 1

yeah, but sometimes

Unnamed Contributor 2

stuff does come back.

Unnamed Contributor 1

You

Unnamed Contributor 2

know

Todd (Co-Host)

how we

Unnamed Contributor 2

like

Unnamed Contributor 1

that

Unnamed Contributor 2

a little bit.

I thought you were going to say, sometimes stuff does come

Todd (Co-Host)

out.

Yeah, that's right.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh, gosh.

But they were, remember the shirts you would have in gym class?

Oh, yeah.

They were those small little, short little, even though our basketball, when I see pictures of basketball.

Unnamed Contributor 1

And those uniforms really changed basketball,

Todd (Co-Host)

right?

Oh, my God.

And now they're down to

Unnamed Contributor 1

their knees.

Todd (Co-Host)

For the better.

Unnamed Contributor 2

Really with the socks up to the knees.

Todd (Co-Host)

Absolutely

Unnamed Contributor 2

at the shorts up to your

Todd (Co-Host)

well We decide I come from the era where you also in basketball You would wear the stirrup socks first where they were just in the basketball Yeah, they had no function other than the look.

Yeah in basketball Absolutely, how long ago was that not that long ago?

I was in high school 50 years ago

Unnamed Contributor 1

I mean, he has 50th coming up this summer, so I've never seen

Unnamed Contributor 2

anybody play basketball in those socks.

Oh, I'll show you

Todd (Co-Host)

some pictures right now.

I'm sure he will.

They were a good-looking thing between his shorts and

Vinny Vincenzo (Host)

your size.

Yeah, I'm on this.

I'm on this.

for your chance to win in the statewide contest.

Producer

All right, this hour you're playing for a pair of Milwaukee Brewers club level tickets.

Key word again is water.

You've got until eight o'clock this morning to text in for your shot to win and also help Jim and John look good to the Boston.

John Mino

Yeah, come on.

We need it.

Come on, man.

For what we do for you every day.

Come on.

Think about it.

I got a text here.

This is an important text, actually, in regards to the entire community about an event coming up.

We got the bell.

We're talking with Raleigh Schmidt here a little bit about the bell.

But something that actually

is a little bit bigger than that as far as just the day to day getting around downtown Green Bay.

We just got a great question.

You just want to.

OK, John,

Jim Schmidt

do we have any music for such a slow breaking news or not

John Mino

breaking news, but just something

Jim Schmidt

people

John Mino

be aware of here.

Ladies and gentlemen, we just had a text coming in that's very, very important for those who might be in downtown Green Bay on the 25th.

The question is, sirs.

Will the streets of downtown be closed for the show anniversary?

Just trying to plan my downtown traffic patterns.

Funny,

Jim Schmidt

funny.

John Mino

Snarky Brian.

Jim Schmidt

Exactly.

Snarky Brian.

Just for our guests, may not be Raleigh.

Raleigh, last year we had our one year anniversary.

And I was in charge of-

Producer

No, wait a minute.

You weren't in charge of anything.

Jim Schmidt

No, okay.

No, you took charge of something.

Okay, that's right.

I just, I'm reflecting back to my old days as mayor where I could say that.

And I thought being really interrupted.

Todd, I was no longer.

No longer is right.

And I thought that'd be fun.

We'll have an event.

So I said, let's close the street.

out in front of here, right?

Cause it'd be have a little band and maybe, you know, at a helicopter coming over, dropping ping pong balls.

And so I did the first turkeys.

But yeah, right?

We talked about that.

We talked about that.

But I, um, so I, or sent the thing in, close the street and then the rest of the deal fell apart because nobody else picked up their pieces.

So we were here on the 25th, right here, right here.

And we're like, and, uh,

the truck comes with all the barricades and literally we had a gas

John Mino

setting exactly where

Jim Schmidt

you were on and I looked and I

John Mino

saw the big thing pulling a trailer with all these barricades I don't know what's going on there and then I looked and they stopped right at the end here

Jim Schmidt

and they're unloading

John Mino

the barricades and closing off the street

Jim Schmidt

Actually, oh, yeah, I went out there.

You guys that was that was just Todd's idea.

We're not doing this.

So no, I took the heat on it.

I did I was

John Mino

really impressed that the city actually did

Jim Schmidt

it for it.

They were closing off the street.

So he has to go running out

John Mino

of

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

the clout that

John Mino

you carry.

Jim Schmidt

I

John Mino

said live very little, but I'm running sprinting.

I've never seen him move so fast like you guys don't do this because last time he moved that fast.

He's wearing the shortest

Jim Schmidt

shorts.

All right, that's my job anyway.

Our two year anniversary is coming up on the 25th.

So it's just one of our, as John so well-labeled him, our snarky listener said, do I have to do my traffic routing because the street is going to be closed?

And the answer is, I

John Mino

don't know yet.

Hey Brian, we don't know.

We'll

Jim Schmidt

let you

John Mino

know.

It's

Jim Schmidt

on a need to know basis.

See if the

John Mino

truck shows up.

Jim Schmidt

The truck shows up.

Yes, Brian.

Adjust your downtown

John Mino

traffic pattern.

All right.

Ron Schmidt, guru on medical for the bell in run.

And that is coming up.

And you guys were talking here during the break.

Tell us again and forget COVID when it was shut down.

That doesn't count for anything in regards to length of service here.

Tell us again how far back this goes.

OK, correct me if I'm wrong.

You were in like.

Junior high maybe when this started

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

that yeah, well, it's about junior high for me, right exactly.

Yeah, even probably elementary school.

John Mino

Yeah 1980 No,

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

this started in the 70s,

John Mino

right?

1974 right 74 75

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

exact number again.

I do medical.

I don't do math I don't do the hard stuff I do the easy stuff like medical so

John Mino

that's that's before running even became a

Before running was really cool.

Before jogging, it was really cool guys.

Well actually, he goes back to, you know, Anchorman.

Yes, my wife and I are gonna try something.

It's called jogging, I believe.

I believe it's a soft J. You know, I mean, there was no such thing as jogging.

Yeah,

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

right.

Yeah, it was a kickoff to our hospital, the new cardiac center that we had at the hospital.

George Kerwin had a dream, a vision.

And he brought in a couple.

He

John Mino

knew something special.

There's a guy there.

What you talk about, yeah.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

George's top notch class that guy.

give you the shirt off his back kind of a person.

He's

Jim Schmidt

a wonderful guy.

What a great story too.

I mean, well educated, but he really didn't start at the top there.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

George worked his way

Jim Schmidt

all the way

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

from the hospital system all the way through and became the top dog at

John Mino

the hospital

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

and very well respected for it.

John Mino

But was so big into people getting out and moving.

Well, George was a good example.

He ran that thing,

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

what?

Jim Schmidt

He went

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

out and moved.

Jim Schmidt

20 years, 25

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

years.

Yeah, whatever the number is,

Jim Schmidt

exactly.

Yeah, it's a long time.

But what's cool about the bell and we were talking about that is there's

It's this is the 49th running of the bell and and you have 20 guys You said there are other women in their tours 20 legends 20 like 20

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

legends at this time that have run every

Jim Schmidt

one of

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

49 Bell and runs

John Mino

That's incredible.

So the oldest right now would be what seven in 70s

Jim Schmidt

all of that right?

Would that be interesting to compare his vitals?

to the guy that didn't.

I mean, that's it.

To mine?

Oh man, you get your great shape.

You walk in and I'm like, okay, another bell and guy.

So this exciting and 49 years, you got it down, but it's grown.

You've got different heats now, but you still do a great family thing with the parks and it's a great, it's more than a run.

I mean, that's a festival.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

It really is.

It is a community event and the support we get from the community is why we have

49 years

Jim Schmidt

of

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

successful runs, right?

It starts with our community, it starts with our hospital system, supporting what we do, supporting that vision of getting feet on the street, getting people out there getting healthy, that's really the biggest thing for us.

John Mino

But if you didn't have those people handing out cups of water and don't, you wouldn't have the

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

runs.

Our volunteers, our corner volunteers, our, you know, race pack of volunteers, you name it, exactly.

You hit that nail on the head, John.

It really is a community event and we don't do it without...

It's the support from everybody.

We're here to talk about the medical team, but I've got 100 medical volunteers.

We don't do this without those people.

We don't do it without the 2000 plus volunteers standing on a corner somewhere telling people which way to go and which cars can't go which direction.

John Mino

Or I know this for a fact with some of those hot days pulling people off the course.

We've had a few of those.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

We've had a few of those.

trying to hone that process in and how to help people avoid those situations.

I know a

John Mino

guy that happened to.

And at first, he was offended.

And then he realized, I didn't even saw pictures of himself.

And it's like, holy crap, I didn't realize it.

I thought, well, I got through this.

But you guys really, some of your volunteers really look for signs of, hey.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

Yeah.

We have our medical team.

some of our volunteers as well, but our medical team is on bikes, right?

Cruising the course, you know, looking for those, those participants that are maybe struggling, whatever, um, our aid stations as they're, they're spaced out around the course.

They're looking for those people to go, okay, uh, bib number one, two, three, four looks rough and they'll radio that through to the next stations.

Hey, the, the guy in the red shirt and you know, bib number one, two, three, four, he looks a little tough.

John Mino

That's exactly.

And he's like, wow, I didn't realize it.

You know, I just thought I'll gut this out.

I'll tell you one quick funny story.

One of the times I was covering it, they'd have that pickup truck for the media so you could video.

Announcer

Yeah.

John Mino

And they were going and some kid was like driving or whatever.

I remember.

And the one guy in the lead starts yelling and somebody's people like, what's he yelling?

That's what he said.

He's yelling.

Speed up.

The truck was going too slow for him.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

So I'll tag along with that story.

I drove the truck one year.

It may have been me, right?

Yeah.

No, I drove the truck one year.

You know, as part of my medical team, I wanted to see what the course looked like.

I wanted to be out there, wanted to see what that looked like, you know, with the elites behind me.

And I'm pacing it and my spotters in the seat next to me.

And I'm looking at my speedometer.

It's 15, 16 miles an hour, 17 miles an hour.

John Mino

And he's

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

going.

Pick it up.

John Mino

They're making a move.

Pick it up.

They're making a move.

Exactly.

That's exactly right.

So I

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

hammered and I'm like, it was 16, 17, 18 miles an hour.

And

John Mino

I'm

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

like, these guys are

John Mino

catching me.

And you're riding in the back of a truck and you feel like you're going fast.

And these guys are right on you.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That was incredible.

That really showed those elite people how fast they run.

Jim Schmidt

They're pretty darn good.

But the medical team, it's not going to, the heat won't be an issue this year.

But what are the things you,

Most common out of the yeah, so we

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

we our medical team prepares for the worst pray for the best and hope for something in between

John Mino

you had all Levels haven't your few years goes beyond belief hot and humid.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

We really have and we so we put in our medical tent We have dunk tanks the best way to cool somebody is a full immersion so we get a

core body temperature on them, and then we cool them as quickly as we can by putting them in a cold water bath, basically.

We actually had a gentleman, speaking of funny stories or scary stories, it might be, gentlemen stopped Randy Van Stratten in the hospital a year or so ago, Randy told me this story, and he said, hey, you don't know me, but your medical team saved my life.

Wow.

And Randy's like, you know, kind of taken back.

He goes, really?

What happened?

He goes, well, I had a heat stroke.

I was unconscious.

Your team wheeled me in.

put me in the dunk tank, and I walked home with my family that day.

Jim Schmidt

Wow.

Yeah.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

So that's the type of stuff that, you know, like you said, we'll do everything from...

John Mino

What are they?

Explain the silver, like, blankets that you give people.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

So the Mylar blankets are obviously a very thin space blanket,

John Mino

if you

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

will, right?

So it's a heat retaining blanket.

People get chilled as soon as they stop running.

John Mino

Right.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

Okay, so in a day like tomorrow, we might see a few more of those heat, or they're done Saturday, excuse me, we might see a few more of those Mylar blankets going out because it's going to be cool and rainy and everything else.

Your body temperature is up really high when you're out

Jim Schmidt

there

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

running and you're moving around and all of a sudden you stop right away.

It just helps retain that heat is more than anything.

I didn't, I didn't know that,

Jim Schmidt

but I can use a

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

calcium, right?

A roll of them.

you know, we can put $10,000

Jim Schmidt

on a roll.

Right.

But what I do know about them, they look really cool in the picture.

Absolutely.

They do.

You're silver cape.

Yeah.

I don't know if I need it.

I didn't know it was for heat.

I'm just giving you one of those.

Okay, honey, take the picture.

All right, that's, yeah.

Did you run the Bellin?

Check out the cape, sister.

That's right.

That's what you wanted.

How about we'll talk a little bit about preparing for it.

And then the Bellin, you know, it's 6.2 miles.

It's not a forever.

It's not a marathon, but still it's

It's over five.

It's a lot of people's

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

marathon.

Jim Schmidt

It is.

Right.

It's that

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

person who's going from couch to 5k, couch

Jim Schmidt

to 10k.

You do go to trade, but little things, twisted ankles, does that stuff happen there?

We see quite a bit of

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

that.

Yeah.

I mean, orthopedic injuries, blisters, you know, the little minor things, cuts, boo-boos, nicks and, you know, scrapes and things like that.

We see a lot of that.

we see hamstring strains and hip problems.

So a lot of that orthopedic stuff we see and we manage those things many times on course or after the race, maybe they can gut it through and finish out the event.

But I always recommend those people, don't make it your PR today if you're having symptoms.

Stop, make this a fun event.

Make this a fun event.

Don't gut it

Jim Schmidt

out just to gut it out.

And you respect that by the different.

the heats that you had the different times, right?

I mean, you even have a walking section, right?

Absolutely.

John Mino

So, okay.

Yeah.

Can I tell you one thing that has, um, in the back when I used to run, I used to jog, shouldn't say run.

Um, that's always prevented me from taking part in the belly.

What?

What's that?

Listing everybody's times.

I didn't want to be like last in my category.

Do they still, do they

Jim Schmidt

still, do they still do that?

But I got

John Mino

guys that's like, okay, my goal.

I don't care if it's 59, 9, 9, 9, 9

Jim Schmidt

is to

John Mino

be under the six.

SPEAKER_??

Oh, yeah.

Jim Schmidt

Right.

That's a

John Mino

lot of

Jim Schmidt

peer pressure.

Most people want to run that.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

That hour.

That

Jim Schmidt

hour mark is exactly the

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

magic

Jim Schmidt

number.

Right.

And people shoot for that.

And then it was to that.

running your age, which, yeah, you know, some of those don't kids can run their age.

I mean, they're 29 year old, you know, they fly through that first.

It's amazing.

It is.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

When we see that elite group come flying

John Mino

in.

Oh, my

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

God.

John Mino

Yeah, it's

Jim Schmidt

pretty cool.

All

John Mino

right, we gotta start a quick break.

Stick around, please.

Rollin Schmidt.

Medical.

What would be your personal title for this, Rowan?

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

I'm the medical coordinator.

John Mino

Medical coordinator for the bell and run.

Jim Schmidt

Medical director.

We're going to elevate you today.

Thank you for being here.

Raleigh Schmidt (guest)

Oh, no, that's Dr. Quellio.

Jim Schmidt

She gets the big bucks.

All right, all right, all right.

Not today.

She's not.

You've

Producer

already learned.

You're on our show.

Jim makes all the decisions you hear about.

Host

Summer Summer Summer

All right.

Yeah.

The Scotty summer text to win statewide contest is on your final shot to play along this go round with Jim and John.

And here are all the details from John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

John Minow

Hey, that's right is your Scotty summer, your Scotty summer text to win statewide contest.

You're giving chance for Milwaukee Brewers club level tickets or $100 cash.

Plus every entry puts you into one of our grand prize drawings of Wisconsin Dells area vacation or a door county vacation.

All right.

Jim Schmidt

So this

John Minow

hour's keyword

Jim Schmidt

is water.

W A T E.

We are Water.

Download the Civic Media app in the Apple Google Play stores, choose WISS or WGBW, and use the text button to send in the keyword, Water, for your chance to win in the statewide contest.

John Minow

We're being joined by Roland Schmidt-Guru on the medical side of things for the bell and run.

Jim, how many years did you run it?

Jim Schmidt

Oh, not enough.

Um, I'd not, six, seven, eight, nine.

Oh, that's a lot.

But it was really fun.

And, you know, and it wasn't, you got to train out when you're our age,

It wasn't that much training, maybe, you know, a week.

Now you have to train, you know, a couple months, and now Johnny and I got trained like a couple years.

But it's just so much... I just like the spaghetti dinner.

I like...

Going with my kid, I like the family part of it, the music, the event after and all the kids, the little kids got, all their bibs were number one.

So there was no, you know what

Roland Schmidt

I mean?

Jim Schmidt

I thought it was just, you got like cool stuff over there.

Do

Roland Schmidt

you still have the

Jim Schmidt

half bananas at the end?

We

Roland Schmidt

still have bananas at the end.

I mean, you can't have a race without bananas.

No.

God

Jim Schmidt

no, so, all right.

And in terms of, I mean, you're the medical guy for the whole thing.

You see, you have a hundred.

of you guys there

Roland Schmidt

yeah there's a hundred volunteers medical volunteers in our first aid tents out on the bikes everything else and then add in our green bay fire team you know we're right yeah we got quite a few folks running around

Jim Schmidt

Roland has that changed you know you've been doing this for 49 years but did they always submerge people in that no that's that's

Roland Schmidt

fairly well not

Fairly knew

John Minow

it When that became a big thing in like professional sports when Corey Stringer for the Minnesota Vikings exactly it died of heat Exhaustion and then and every NFL team from them and college football That's exactly when they started doing the big for lack of better words dunk tank type things

Roland Schmidt

correct And that's exactly it John the the Corey Stringer associate Corey Stringer Institute and the National Athletic Training Association

my organization that I work with and work under, that's really where the big push came and the research came with, hey, this saves lives.

This saves lives, right?

And cool first transport second mentality has actually even, you've seen it just recently in the news, some of the fire stations out west and in California, you're like, oh, we're doing dunk tanks and this is new information.

Dude, we've been doing this

Host

for

Roland Schmidt

20 years,

Host

you know.

Roland Schmidt

So it's really cool to be able to do that.

I was lucky enough to work with the Green Bay Fire Department many, many years ago now already and bring that information and bring that research to them and say, hey, this, this saves lives.

And I had, I had descendants going, no, man, you put somebody in a dunk taker to kill them.

You give them a heart attack, you give this, you give that, whatever.

And the research just didn't show that.

And it showed obviously the opposite.

The quickest

John Minow

way to lower that body free from like a lethal.

to at least get it down below that line,

Roland Schmidt

right?

Your body is cooking from the inside out at that point, so we have to get you cool.

You'd

John Minow

have to take a drastic measure.

Jim Schmidt

Correct.

The advancement, I mean, that's changed.

I mean, the Superman capes weren't there 49 years ago.

Correct.

And to keep your, you said to warm your body, right?

Because it's chilled, that's the reason for those.

But some of this stuff is...

49 years, like the half bananas.

I mean, some of this stuff is traditional, right?

Yeah, absolutely.

Roland Schmidt

So we've got a lot of really cool changes, you know, and we, every year you think, oh, it's medical, it's medical, medical.

You don't do anything different in medical, right?

You treat the people the same.

We don't.

Every year we look for advancements.

This year we brought in hands-only CPR.

So we're offering an opportunity for volunteers, spectators, you name it, to participate in our medical team as a medical volunteer.

by recognizing sudden cardiac arrest on the street.

John Minow

I was going to ask you, because Mark Houston brought in the, I can never remember the name of them, the small units.

Roland Schmidt

The ADs.

John Minow

Yes.

Yeah.

And anybody can use them.

I mean, it talks, it talks right through it.

How do you guys distribute those throughout a course?

Roland Schmidt

So we have, as I said, we have athletic trainers on bikes.

Right.

Our Green Bay Medical.

guys are on bikes as well.

We have firefighters on bikes.

They are all carrying backpacks with AEDs in them.

John Minow

Got it.

Roland Schmidt

All of our aid stations have AEDs at them as well.

Got it.

So we have an opportunity to get them out to the facilities right away.

John Minow

Because really, if something happened, what is a time span?

What's that golden time

Roland Schmidt

or whatever they call it?

So gold standard from if you look at sudden cardiac arrest in that in that it regards, if you look at sudden cardiac arrest, gold standard.

to get hands on chest to start CPR.

Gold standard is one minute.

Well, we certainly can't accomplish that with our bikes,

Host

right?

Roland Schmidt

It's gonna take us a minute to get that call to our incident command center, us to dispatch out that individual to that location.

So that's where our volunteers are so important.

That's why we're doing the hands only CPR training.

We want our volunteers to recognize, boy, if somebody falls down in front of me, it looks like they're not breathing.

It looks like they're pulseless.

get

John Minow

something

Roland Schmidt

started.

I should start CPR.

I should start hands-only CPR for this victim.

And I can help save a life as a volunteer, as a spectator.

Interesting.

Wow.

That's why we're pushing this right this year.

We'll have opportunities for our community members, our volunteers, spectators, our runners to learn hands-only CPR at our expo tonight.

So that's fantastic.

So we're teaching it.

John Minow

That is awesome.

Roland Schmidt

Yeah.

One of the things that we, again, looking for enhancements every single year to our medical team, to our medical program.

This is one of the things that we brought in this year as an enhancement to it.

Very

Jim Schmidt

cool.

They learned that this weekend.

Roland Schmidt

You can literally learn hands only CPR.

It's a minute 47 second video and probably two or three minutes of practice.

Jim Schmidt

No kidding.

Roland Schmidt

Under five minutes, you can learn how to save a life.

Jim Schmidt

And you just do that.

until you guys show

Roland Schmidt

up.

And so one of us shows up with an AD.

That could

Jim Schmidt

be another two, three minutes.

That's

Roland Schmidt

correct.

And that can make the difference.

Your steps for sudden cardiac arrest, when you witness a sudden cardiac arrest or when you witness a collapse, you're not sure what it is even.

You can start CPR.

It's OK.

It's safe to do that.

It's not going to hurt them.

It's not going to hurt them, right?

If you're not sure what their breathing level is,

They're not breathing good enough for me, and we should start CPR in that situation.

This is great information, Rowan.

Check all the boxes.

Jim Schmidt

We're so lucky to have Bell in here.

Just everything, right?

I mean, the health care, the cardiac.

And then to do this for the community is just awesome.

Thank you.

Can I just ask one personal

John Minow

question?

Yeah, okay,

Jim Schmidt

Ron has one.

Do you

John Minow

guys still get mad if a non-runner like myself wears a belling t-shirt?

We love it.

We love it.

Thank you so much, Roland Schmidt.

He is literally the guru for the medical information for the bell and run coming up tomorrow.

Thanks for everything you do.

And thanks for putting together such an amazing event for our community.

Roland Schmidt

Thanks for having us guys.

We really appreciate it.

49 years going

John Minow

back after this.

Todd

All right, the Scotty summer text-to-win contest, your final shot to play along with Jim and John this morning.

Details on it and how you can play right now from John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

Jim Schmidt

Hey, that's right, it's ours.

It's Gunny Summer Texan Statewide Contest.

Your daily chance when a pair of Milwaukee Brewer's club level are $100 cash.

Plus every entry puts you into one of our grand prize drawings of a couple of great packages.

Wisconsin Dell's area vacation or a Dork County vacation.

All right, and this hour's keyword is

John Minow

water.

W-A-T-E-R water.

Download this water.

I want to get that T in there.

I want to just spell, you know, it's W-A-T-E-R, right?

Yeah.

like in Uganda, they spell it W. A. D. E. R. This is W. A. T. W. A. T. E. R. Download the Civic Media app in the Apple or Google Play stores, choose W. I. S. S. Or W. G. B. W. And use the text button to send the keyword water for your chance to win in the statewide contest.

Todd

You got until eight o'clock to play along again.

That word is water this hour.

You're playing for Milwaukee Brewers Club level tickets.

Your next shot to play will be later on this morning after 11 o'clock.

Jim Schmidt

There we go.

I'll tell you what, a lot of great things taking place this week.

And of course the bell and run and the great event that the Green Bay Blizzard puts on, on a regular basis.

Todd, I want to talk a little bit about that buddy.

Todd

Mike Bayer is on with us from Operation Song to get us into it.

Good morning, Mike.

John Minow

Good morning.

Mike, thanks for doing this.

This is such a great event here in Green Bay.

Just the honor of the military that fun into our football game at the, at the rush at the arena.

Um, and you're going to really enhance that with this.

Military appreciate a right date

Mike Bayer

Yeah, so I mean one we're super excited to just be back in the Green Bay community It you know folks up there is just phenomenal.

They love the military.

They love music and You know what better?

Organization to bring up there than operation song.

It's just it's powerful and Just a great addition to a military appreciation night for sure We're we're so thankful to Green Bay Blizzard and and everybody out there

Jim Schmidt

And Mike, for those that don't understand or don't realize what Operation Song is, could you go ahead and give us a thumbnail sketch one more time?

What exactly you guys do?

Mike Bayer

Absolutely, yeah.

So we're a nonprofit that pairs professional songwriters with veterans and their families to tell their stories.

Since 2012, we have written around 2,050 songs with veterans from World War II all the way up to post 9-11.

and including their family members.

We understand that family members serve just as much as the veterans did, and so we want to honor all of them and tell their stories through song.

2000, did you say?

2050, yeah.

Jim Schmidt

And you guys haven't been around that long.

It's not like you've been around for 30 years.

Mike Bayer

Yeah.

Well, I mean, for a nonprofit doing what we do, we consider getting past 10 years of success.

Yeah.

But yeah, it's been incredible and it just keeps growing.

And so we're so proud of what we do and grateful just to be able to have the chance to bring it into a community like Green Bay.

Jim Schmidt

Can you describe the process, Mike, if somebody wanted to have one of their family members or friend or whomever veteran, if they want to take part in something like this, could you tell the process, please?

Mike Bayer

Yeah, so the process is if we have a lot of opportunities for veterans and their families to write.

you know the the easiest way is to reach out to us through the website and we can write virtually with anybody across the country so it's it's after after we receive your in-processing application we pair you with a songwriter and you guys

Coordinate when you want to meet and and for how long and they sit down and just work out the song together When I say together, I mean we consider the participant a songwriter It's not our job to write the song for them.

It's it's our job to write the song with them We want them to be an active participant

John Minow

and it's amazing what you capture in that interview and sometimes those interviews really all that long and they come out with some unbelievable just heartfelt

I don't know, I've just, I've listened to a number of your songs and it's terrific what you do there.

And yeah, it's just, that's a great- Well, they're perfect.

I mean, these-

Jim Schmidt

Well, the musicians

John Minow

are-

Jim Schmidt

Yeah, the musicians and the writers, I mean, these people make a living writing songs, right, Mike?

Mike Bayer

Yeah, I mean they do.

So these are all professional songwriters that work here in Nashville and we have a lot in Texas as well.

And during the week they're writing two or three songs a day for the industry and we're just grateful to be able to have them.

participate with us and use their skill and talent to help us tell our stories.

It is incredible.

It's a process that could take anywhere from an hour to three hours.

And when I went through it myself, my song was actually written in a span of about 45 minutes.

So it's pretty incredible.

John Minow

That's cool, man.

And we've been privileged to hear a few of those songs.

Todd's

Jim Schmidt

wearing one of your t-shirts as we speak.

John Minow

Absolutely.

What you capture is, and of course you got the professional musician in an unbelievable story.

Todd

Mike, can you tell us about the song we're gonna kind of preview here today on the show?

Mike Bayer

Yeah, so the song is called Love Never Dies, and we wrote this last year at our October show in Green Bay with Kathy Trinkler and Taylor Davis was the songwriter.

And Kathy wanted to write this song for her mom about her dad.

Uh, her dad was a veteran.

He had passed away and she wanted to surprise her mom with this song and that's just such a beautiful tribute.

She did such a great job and Taylor really captured.

I think what Kathy wanted to say, uh, and to see the, see the face, you know, her mom's face at the show, uh, when she surprised her with this song, it was just priceless.

Was her dad,

Jim Schmidt

was her dad Gordon?

Uh, you know, I don't know her dad's name because he's in my, one of my books that I wrote on World War two veterans, tremendous guy.

Todd

Oh, that's awesome.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

Awesome.

Let's give it a

Todd

spin.

Jim Schmidt

What do you say?

Todd

Absolutely.

I believe this is called Love Never Dies and you're hearing it first this morning on Mino

Taylor Davis

and the Mayor.

Well they rushed right in.

It was wedding bells and a baby on the way.

Her uncle Sam came knocking on that door and he had to go away.

She lay awake and wonder if he was gonna make it home.

But he made her promise she wouldn't

even on the rainy days you got somebody to help you get on through over six years they built a lot

and a couple scars, some that couldn't be seen.

And that baby was growing up real fast and soon came two and three.

It was church every Sunday, dinners at five and summers out on the lake.

A lot of hard work and sacrifice and doing whatever it takes.

Cause love never dies, it never fades, even on.

We got somebody to help you get on through.

Over six years they built...

fire still burned hot up until the end when it was his time to go cuz love never dies it never fades even on the rainy days he got somebody

John Minow

That's

Jim Schmidt

great.

Mike Bayer

Mike, is that you singing?

You know, I wish it was.

That's actually that's actually Taylor Davis singing.

He's the songwriter that wrote with with Kathy.

Jim Schmidt

I mean, that if somebody played that on a country station, you would have no idea it was a local type of song about somebody.

I mean, that had every bit of Nashville, any type of song that would be mainstream.

That was fantastic.

The professionalism and the quality is incredible.

Mike Bayer

Thank you.

Yeah, that's that's one thing we proud ourselves on is you know when we tell these stories We want to not only tell the story in a way that makes the veteran or the family member proud and honors them But is it you know is professional and good quality as well.

And so we take pride in that

John Minow

Wow, what I like about that is that I mentioned I was specifically for the person that did the interview but

That could transcend to a whole lot of families what you talked about in there 60 years and you know

Jim Schmidt

That was an amazing tune I have tears in my eyes.

Yeah, that's great.

Just

Mike Bayer

great You know what you 100% correct about that.

There's so many songs that we have I mean my song was

was about myself and my son.

I was retiring as my son was joining the army.

And every time that song is played, somebody always comes up and says, man, that's me and my dad's song.

That's me and my son's song.

So we've got a ton of them that just relate to multiple people.

Jim Schmidt

That

Mike Bayer

is so

Jim Schmidt

cool and you guys can be a part of a great thing taking place the Green Bay Blizzard It's tonight block party starts at five o'clock.

The tip off is 705 It's game day promotions military night car flag giveaway to the first 1000 fans the block party military vehicles music from operation song which is you guys of course inflatables a lot more special game ball delivery that they say you don't want to miss have type featuring operation song for you guys the Green Bay Blizzard

It's a great night.

I mean, that's something they and their families will have for generations after generations after generations to commemorate the service and the family service.

So, Mike, I just salute you guys.

Thank you for doing this.

We

John Minow

all get

Jim Schmidt

to

Mike Bayer

enjoy that.

Oh, thank you so much.

And we appreciate you guys having us on.

And it's so great to be up there.

You know, we're also going to be up there in October, October 17th.

We're coming back for our annual event.

at the epic event center.

We got some incredible songwriters and we've got, we're actually bringing a Texas artist up with us as well, Warb Davis.

Man, it's going to be just a great show.

So we can't wait to get back there in October.

Todd

Please swing by before the show so that we can stop by the studios and stuff like that around that show time.

We'd love to have you guys back on.

Jim Schmidt

Oh, that'd be great.

We'd appreciate that.

And you know, Jen Gill up here, who's one of your coordinators, right?

Oh, Jen is amazing.

She set

Todd

this up this

Jim Schmidt

morning.

She actually asked if I would sing one of the songs in October.

I don't think so.

Todd

Yes,

Jim Schmidt

she did.

She

Mike Bayer

did work on work on your guitar chops right now.

We'll see about that

Jim Schmidt

fine Mike Thank you for what you guys are doing man.

You guys are welcome here anytime On behalf of all and I'm not a veteran but on a half of all the veteran friends of mine You guys are doing something real special for them and we salute you

Mike Bayer

Well, thank you.

We appreciate your support and appreciate the support of the Desert Vets of Wisconsin as well.

They were instrumental in bringing us up there to the Green Bay Blizzard military.

Appreciate that.

Mike, what

Todd

about a website that people can get more information about Operation Song?

What do you got?

Mike Bayer

Yeah, so go to operationsong.org to learn more about the organization and then go to bandcamp.com to hear all of our songs and just search for Operation Song.

Jim Schmidt

Outstanding.

Mike Byer, Operation Song, Blizzard Military Event tonight.

Thank you very much, my friend.

Thank you very much.

Appreciate you guys.

You

Taylor Davis

got it, bud.

Well they rushed right in, it was wedding bells and a baby on the way.

But Uncle Sam came knocking on that door and he had to go away.

Jim Schmitt (host)

All

Todd (contributor)

and Jim Schmitt.

John (host)

Yeah, coming up, we got Daddy Bame, Green Bay, Papa Murphy.

Can you smell the big girl?

It's phenomenal.

Jim Schmitt (host)

That is awesome.

Nikki's out there.

She is cooking the pizzas.

And I love Papa Murphy's because

John (host)

now they don't make

Jim Schmitt (host)

the pizzas, right?

You got to take them home, but

John (host)

they don't cook them.

They make them.

They make them.

They don't.

That's what I meant.

They don't cook them.

Jim Schmitt (host)

But what a great order.

What you want on there.

Absolutely.

John (host)

Those are so fresh.

No question about it.

Love it.

Smelling

Jim Schmitt (host)

great.

It's much better than a frozen

John (host)

pizza.

Then we got Daddy D productions coming up at our live.

Daddy D Productions Live Music Series.

Very, very honored to have them as our guest American honey will be featured.

Also, also, I, damn it.

You ever have one of those things that's, oh, you know what?

I meant to mention something to somebody.

When we had Roland Schmidt on for the, uh, the bell and run and we're talking about, you know, different things.

Okay.

So the other, I should have brought this up to him.

I wanted to give him some advice on people, um, medically.

Um, so the other night I got a cramp.

in like my foot.

You ever get a cramp in your foot in the middle of the night?

Jim Schmitt (host)

I thought that was nice that he was here and you didn't do anything self-serving.

It's not about me, Jim.

You forgot about it.

It's not about me.

Todd (contributor)

It's about the people.

It's

John (host)

about the people.

Right.

I'm here for the people.

I'm just a conduit.

No, so I got that.

You ever get a cramp in your foot?

Worse isn't so I tried putting I because you can't stretch it out sure you can't so I know you can't so I did the old-fashioned way that completely cured my cramp

Jim Schmitt (host)

drink water

John (host)

no I Drank something but not water Okay, what did you do John pickle juice Took my jar of pickles and I drank the juice and my cramp.

What

Todd (contributor)

a way my dad actually no totally was on that yep

totally was

John (host)

on why

Todd (contributor)

would that

John (host)

I don't

Todd (contributor)

insult maybe right

John (host)

yeah yeah

Todd (contributor)

my cramp away nothing else would and if you didn't have that olive juice one or the other

Jim Schmitt (host)

you would do

Todd (contributor)

but you know above the stove there was all you always have those little cabinets right that's where he kept his brandy

Jim Schmitt (host)

yeah because

Todd (contributor)

you had to have a shit whenever you felt like you're feeling bad you're gonna say

Couple of shots.

Yep.

Boom.

John (host)

Yep.

You're done the pickle juice cured my cramp and I wish I meant to mention that to Robin They should have like a vat of pickle juice there if people cramp up

Jim Schmitt (host)

get right on that Don't why don't you just stretch it out John?

John (host)

You can't exist in your foot if it was in my hamstring or my whatever You know you can stretch into all these things with your feet back like tried to buddy was like on the top the whole top of my foot the whole point the whole fasciitis

Type of area.

I

Todd (contributor)

don't think that's fasciitis.

John (host)

Yeah, it is.

That's the top membrane of your foot is called fasciitis.

Jim Schmitt (host)

Oh my God, you don't even know what membrane.

John (host)

It's okay.

All right.

That's... I don't think fasciitis

Jim Schmitt (host)

is...

John (host)

Or membrane.

It is.

It's called your fascia membrane.

It's the top of your foot and that's what was cramping up and pickle juice cured

Jim Schmitt (host)

it.

That's interesting.

Like, I would have just written it off until Todd said his dad used that.

But it is it's salt water that does it.

Okay, that makes sense.

John (host)

But it's the brine, it's the actual brine that really makes a big difference.

Jim Schmitt (host)

I'm

John (host)

telling you, Jim.

Jim Schmitt (host)

I'm going to go to the Bell in tomorrow, Johnny, and just see if they got shelves and shelves of pickle juice.

John (host)

Well, they should if they don't.

They should if they

Jim Schmitt (host)

don't next year.

Yeah.

For the 50th.

Yeah.

Because he talked about how the medical is advancing every year.

And here we go.

We are contributing.

Todd (contributor)

So fascia is a sheath of stringy connective tissue that surrounds every structure in your body.

Thank

John (host)

you.

Providing

Todd (contributor)

support to your organs, muscles, tendons, ligaments, tissue, nerves, joints and bones.

John (host)

Give me a bell, please.

I don't think that's the top portion

Jim Schmitt (host)

of your... Neither do I. I think that's around the organs, but I don't know that it's on the surface.

John (host)

Like you don't have organs in your feet?

Todd (contributor)

No, no,

Jim Schmitt (host)

no.

Muscles,

Todd (contributor)

tendons, ligaments,

Jim Schmitt (host)

tissues.

I'm saying around all that.

I'm saying is it bones?

I don't think it's the top layer.

I think that's called skin.

John (host)

Which one of us major in kinesiology?

Jim Schmitt (host)

Man, it wasn't me because I didn't know what the hell that word means.

John (host)

Exactly.

Exactly.

Hey, John, what does it mean?

Don't question me on medical things, Jim.

I've studied these things vociferously.

Oh, my God.

It's like Norm Crosby over here.

If anyone even gets that, right?

Todd (contributor)

Right.

Jim Schmitt (host)

Remember Norm Crosby?

Todd (contributor)

Yeah, he's butchered everything.

The top of the foot is known as the dorsum.

There it is.

There you go.

John (host)

That's what I'm looking for.

Yeah, that's the different way to do it.

Latin word or American word.

Same thing.

I mean same thing.

All I'm saying is pickle juice cures cramps.

I think saltwater cures cramps.

And I

Jim Schmitt (host)

think a form of that is pickle

John (host)

juice.

It just makes sense to me.

It won't work if you just take a salt shaker and take that.

That won't work.

It's because of the brine because it's developed and it ages.

And that's what works.

Jim, it worked.

I think it worked.

Jim Schmitt (host)

I don't doubt it worked.

I don't doubt it worked at all.

I think that's part of your...

mental part of it and you know, that's, but I think that's great.

It worked.

It worked for you.

And I think that's, that's what's important.

Todd, your

John (host)

family and for his dad.

Jim Schmitt (host)

That's

John (host)

all I think that's the old farm thing.

Do you really think his

Jim Schmitt (host)

dad grabbed the pickle juice or touch?

Yeah.

Or the whiskey.

Well, he said there's or the brandy, right?

Whatever.

John (host)

I still

Jim Schmitt (host)

think if you talk to a doctor,

I still think they're going to tell you the first thing you should do is try and stretch it out.

Todd (contributor)

But when it's on top of your foot, you can't.

What if you walked on your foot a little bit with that?

That's

Jim Schmitt (host)

what I'm

John (host)

saying.

Yeah.

You know, try everything.

Yeah.

I tried everything.

Yeah.

Everything there was I tried.

So I grabbed the pickle juice and it's magical.

It's magical.

Not kidding about this.

I like

Jim Schmitt (host)

that.

Yeah.

Okay.

What's good?

We will talk to

John (host)

is Mark.

Mark, are you out there?

Do you guys teach that at Bellin?

Of course he does.

We actually got another

Todd (contributor)

text.

Okay.

John (host)

It's the vinegar in the bride.

Okay.

Okay.

Thank you cowboy Dave I bet all farm type people country people know about this probably Because they had to come up with their own you know types of things You know

Jim Schmitt (host)

mm-hmm.

John (host)

Yeah, that's there

Jim Schmitt (host)

You're right.

There's a lot of stuff that back on the farm.

This is what they and it works It's even today

John (host)

and I'll bet you if you dug out a farmer's almanac.

I'll bet they would say that I bet they would say using

Pickle juice for different things.

Jim Schmitt (host)

Not, okay,

Todd (contributor)

I don't know if I want to bet,

John (host)

but not for cramps.

Todd (contributor)

So I started typing in, can pickle juice and immediately on the computer side help with cramps?

Yes, there's evidence that pickle juice can reduce the duration and severity of muscle cramps.

John (host)

Can I please get a bell?

Yes, you can.

Is it too much to ask to get a bell?

Thank you.

Is that, do you rub it on?

Can you rub it on?

You just drink it.

I'm telling you.

Thank God I'm here.

You're right.

I know man.

Thank God for the people.

Hey folks, you know

Jim Schmitt (host)

what?

We don't need bellen.

John (host)

I don't do this for me.

I do this for you.

Consider me a gift to you.

759.

All right, we'll be right back.

That's what I do.

John Mino

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And here are your hosts, John Mino and Jim

Schmidt.

Oh, here we go.

We are back.

Hey, welcome again.

We're outside right now with Danny Bain.

Green Bay Papa Murphy father's day demo for pizza and I'll tell you what I'm Jim I've talked about this for I'm gonna build a wood-burning pizza oven in my yard Okay, and Danny this tastes like what I would assume my wood-burning pizza is going to taste like just like it.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah Papa Murphy's makes great pizza and we've been going to your place for but it's cooked in the oven you cook this on the grill

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah, this one on the grill.

It's just new.

No, we've been trying to get people to grill.

Cooked pizza on the grill.

What

John Mino

a great idea.

What are the... Nikki's actually doing the work.

Cheers,

Jim Schmidt

Andrew.

He's just taking

John Mino

credit.

Nikki, come on over here.

You're running around doing all the work.

He's just here to be a big time guy.

Taking the credit.

These are so good.

Danny Bain

Thank you.

I'm glad you're enjoying them.

John Mino

Oh, man, are we enjoying them.

Danny Bain

Absolutely.

They're tasty, fresh made this morning by yours truly.

And we're glad to be out here today.

It's a beautiful day in Green Bay.

What's the

John Mino

secret of getting this crust so good?

Danny Bain

Actually, we go on every day early morning.

We make it fresh.

But then with

John Mino

the grilling part, give us some secrets on grilling it so you don't burn it or so it's not too raw.

Danny Bain

Sure.

I like to proof my crust.

So a lot of times you're going to leave your pizza in the refrigerator to keep your toppings all nice and fresh.

But you're going to want to pull that out and let it actually come to room temperature for about an hour.

And then you're going to want to put it into the oven or onto the grill.

Jim Schmidt

It has a different flavor.

Danny Bain

Doesn't it, Jim?

Yeah, absolutely.

I've never

Jim Schmidt

had smoked pizza.

Danny Bain

And I

Jim Schmidt

love your pizza.

Danny Bain

Excellent.

The charcoal really does make a big difference.

I've heard people are getting more creative with their smokers.

But I'm a little old fashioned.

I like to sit out in my lawn chair, enjoy a drink, and grill out.

But you put that even on,

Jim Schmidt

I have gas grill, but you put those wood chips in there.

That gives it that smoke

Danny Bain

flavor.

So I'm going to try that.

Yeah, absolutely.

And for

Jim Schmidt

Father's Day, I still like to grill, but the kids can buy the pizza.

Danny Bain

Yes.

And it's a great recommendation for babysitters.

If you and the wife maybe want to go out and have a more special dinner,

You know, you can get pizza and have those kids all happy at home as well.

Yeah.

John Mino

And the freshest pizza, too.

Danny Bain

I mean, you guys are

John Mino

all about this.

This is, I mean, I'm not joking about this.

This is delicious.

Danny Bain

This

John Mino

is really, really good.

And it's unique.

It's pizza like I've never tasted pizza before being grilled.

Yeah.

Do you guys use any special type of charcoal or anything?

No, she just

Danny Bain

bought some.

Really?

I like to stay away from the briquettes.

They don't burn as fast.

Okay.

So I like to get that hardwood clump stuff.

But, you know, like you were saying, there's plenty of different flavors.

But don't discount the wood chips on the

John Mino

gas grills.

Yeah.

Could you do this?

OK, you were talking about camping and different things.

Could you do this over a wood fire?

Danny Bain

Yeah.

The tripod, absolutely.

OK.

We have a

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

piece of stone that's on the grill.

So if you do that, it just helps disperse the heat a little bit.

You just don't want direct heat onto

John Mino

the pizza.

God, so it doesn't

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

burn?

Correct.

You want to do it on indirect heat?

So

Jim Schmidt

this is good for any I mean how

Danny Bain

many different pizzas do you have like a

John Mino

million?

I've never been a fan of like vegetable pizza you guys put a vegetable pizza on there I just had it

Tastes completely different than any vegetable people.

It was

Danny Bain

a recommendation.

That's one of our gourmet delights.

And it's very popular among our guests.

Wow.

John Mino

Guilt free pizza.

You

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

can try

John Mino

to

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

go.

John Mino

I know, right?

Get the

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

veggies

Jim Schmidt

in.

Oh my

John Mino

gosh.

Yeah.

This is so good.

And I'm not just saying that I've never tasted pizza with that kind of a flavor before.

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt

And Danny, you I think a lot of us, while people listening, they listen, you know, here, Mantua, Appleton, Oshkosh.

We're your locations.

You guys are you're you're.

You're big time.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Oh, we have just the location of bandits walk one there and then five in the Green Bay area.

So one in Howard, two in Green Bay and then two in Depeer.

And then we have five in the Appleton area as well.

There's also a location.

Jim Schmidt

It's got like 14, 15 locations.

That's

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

awesome.

Yeah.

Got to keep Nikki busy.

John Mino

Who came up with that?

Officer Craig.

Officer Craig.

We need somebody to get officer.

Look at that.

He's fading away to nothing.

Jim Schmidt

Bring him

John Mino

some pizza for crying out loud.

Look at that poor guy.

Oh my gosh.

You're looking good, Craig.

Yeah, Craig.

Have a little something.

Have some nourishment if you're going to patrol our streets.

My goodness.

Or the cop's pretty good clients.

Jim Schmidt

The cop's a good pizza guy.

Well, Officer Craig, how are you, sir?

John Mino

Officer Craig, have you ever had a grilled pizza before?

I

have not.

You're going to

love this.

I can't wait to see it.

Fantastic.

This is unbelievable.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Go

John Mino

step inside.

Don't try taking it from Jim.

You do not want to try taking it away from Jim's hands.

Jim Schmidt

This

John Mino

is good stuff.

Oh, man.

This is great.

This

Jim Schmidt

is a piece

John Mino

on the diet of police

Jim Schmidt

officers.

Absolutely.

Of course.

Pizza and donuts.

That's right.

So this is Papa Murphy's.

You know, they have great fresh pizzas.

You can get anything you want.

So do I, right?

They're just great.

Bring that home and throw it into the oven.

throw it on the grill.

I'm going to do that this weekend with wood chips because I have a gas grill.

John Mino

That sounds fantastic.

That's

Jim Schmidt

what she said.

It can work.

I'm going to give this a whirl.

Oh,

John Mino

look at that.

I know, right?

Jim Schmidt

Yeah.

Breakfast pizza, right?

Yeah.

Absolutely.

Doesn't even just

John Mino

smell good?

Lunch pizza,

Jim Schmidt

whatever.

Did bacon and Canadian bacon on that one?

John Mino

Just like a... Oh, yeah, back bacon on there.

Oh, I'm basically Canadian, so I can call

Jim Schmidt

it back bacon.

That is

John Mino

awesome.

What do you think, officer?

Great.

Awesome.

Isn't that great?

Mm-hmm.

Nicky, tell us a little bit about how long you have to cook it to make it like that.

Danny Bain

I would say roughly around 15 minutes.

Okay.

If you like it crispier, you know, you're going to want to leave it on there.

Some people like their pizzas a little more doughy, so low and slow is the way to go with that.

John Mino

Okay.

Danny Bain

We do have multiple crusts, so we have original crust, thin crust, and we have a gluten-free option that we did bring today for everyone to try.

We're

Jim Schmidt

eating gluten-free.

Can you believe that?

That's what we're eating.

Yeah, yes.

It's good for you.

See, John,

Danny Bain

you can do this.

And it's very healthy.

Jim Schmidt

What

John Mino

is

Jim Schmidt

he always looking at me when he talks about stuff like that?

I was looking

John Mino

at your gut.

Oh

Jim Schmidt

my

John Mino

God!

This is great.

Wow.

So tell me a little bit how you came up with this.

Give us a background on Papa Murphy's.

It's been such a staple in the community.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah.

The brand is about 30 years old, but it started out West and there's been some stores that are 20, 25 years old around here.

Wow.

But yeah, we've been around in the community.

do a lot of fundraising in the community.

John Mino

I know you do.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

And definitely try to just get to know our people, get to know our guests.

And

John Mino

it's not an easy gig because everybody has their own type of pizza they can do.

And you guys have found a way to make a niche that is just truly successful.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah, definitely try to make it easy.

Don't have to go out and have an expensive meal or chase the kids around and keep them corralled at home.

Jim Schmidt

Wow.

However, people say that once a while.

There's a lot of pizza places.

But pizza is the number one food that people want.

Hands down over sub sandwiches cheeseburgers hamburgers.

It's pizza.

John Mino

Yeah,

Jim Schmidt

I mean there's a market there, too You just like Johnny just said you kind of carved out a really cool niche that you make it as fresh as can be and yeah, take it home and boom Yeah, but if you

John Mino

don't have good crust we've talked about

Jim Schmidt

this.

You don't have

John Mino

good pizza Yeah, you put any topping in the world on top of it doesn't matter

Jim Schmidt

Jesus cheese cheese cheese But even when we before we put it in the the oven room temperature is what we or is that just for the grill

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

just because ours is fresh dill

That's why she's talking to proof the crust up to room temperature.

Jim Schmidt

So that'll help

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

it crisp up when you put it in the oven.

Jim Schmidt

Okay,

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

and then

John Mino

what's the other thing you're the cinnamon roll thing you got coming on?

Danny Bain

Yep, so we actually have that on the grill right now.

That is a dessert option that we offer I like to switch it up a little bit for breakfast.

I like to have it with my coffee It's kind of a sweet and savory, but I also know the kids love it late at night.

I mean, it's a great simple treat

John Mino

So it's not done yet.

That's on the grill right now, right?

Danny Bain

Tell

John Mino

Officer Craig to leave it alone then.

Danny Bain

Absolutely.

John Mino

Tell him to wait.

Danny Bain

Just a few more

John Mino

minutes please.

He's getting a call.

He's got to run to something so

beat it up

Jim Schmidt

he's like how

John Mino

they can wait I'll

be there soon I'll

be there when I get there thanks for coming by buddy thanks for all you do thank you that's awesome so tell me a little bit more about if somebody buys this is great and I still think camping wise this would be great when you got the

You got the little fire going out there in the campground or whatever.

Tell me how somebody can do this.

You need one of the tripod type things, right?

Danny Bain

Correct.

OK.

And then that's going to have a grate over your fire.

John Mino

Right.

Danny Bain

And you're going to want to let your flames get down real low because you're going to want to use those hot coals just like if you're cooking anything else.

John Mino

That's what I was going to ask.

More over the coals than the flames.

Danny Bain

Correct.

John Mino

OK.

Danny Bain

You can order ahead.

You can call.

You can come in store or you can do the online options.

We have a lot of deals available and discounts available.

A lot of people like to get them on Friday and then they're going to wrap them up and take them up north for the weekend.

John Mino

Do they

Danny Bain

come frozen when they buy

John Mino

them from you guys?

Absolutely not.

So they're never frozen?

No.

That's

Danny Bain

the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't

John Mino

it?

That's the

difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't

it?

Jim Schmidt

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

John Mino

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference,

That's one of the things that separates yours.

That dough is always fresh.

Jim Schmidt

There's really no difference between a frozen pizza and your pizza.

I mean, it's just your pizza is so much better because the frozen has, I like it.

Oh man, we're back up.

You

John Mino

just said there's no dirt in the frozen pizza and their people.

I

Jim Schmidt

think you got that wrong.

You had a big difference.

Totally wrong.

Huge

John Mino

difference.

Huge difference.

Big difference.

Big difference.

90 is what you're trying to say.

Jim Schmidt

Big difference.

John Mino

Are

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

your taste

Jim Schmidt

buds working this morning?

They are.

That was good.

John Mino

That's still.

Jim Schmidt

Yeah, I am.

The big difference is what I'm

John Mino

saying.

But here's the deal, though, too.

When you cook something like this, do you?

OK.

And I'm a crust guy.

You know, you gotta have the, and I like the thinner crust more than the thicker crust.

Okay.

Do you scorch it a little bit?

Do you check the crust to know when it's really done with something like this, when you're cooking it over a grill like this or over a campfire?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

And the thin crust will definitely cook a lot faster.

Right.

Yep.

But always keeping on rotating it too on the grill.

Obviously you can get some of those hot spots.

Right.

Keeping rotating the crust and checking the crust off.

And I mean, peel it up a little bit.

Obviously we have the white tray that keeps it very easy to cook to give a little barrier, but.

Tell a little bit more about that stone you were talking about.

Yeah, so you can see Nikki has a stone.

So it just helps move the heat around so you don't get those hot spots.

But having a pizza stone, they're very cheap at a store.

Oh, I've never seen one of those

John Mino

before.

Yeah, so

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

then you can put the pizza right on.

And we have the white tray that we use.

So you can see that gets a little brown on the

John Mino

bottom.

So you don't put the pizza actually on the actual grates?

We do.

Not on the grates.

That's really OK.

Got it.

OK.

But

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

definitely helps with grilling, for sure, to keep the crust from getting.

You know,

Jim Schmidt

and those stones aren't that expensive.

I mean, yeah, I'd never heard of that before.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah.

And on the campfire, too, put the grill, put the stone on the great same thing.

Wow.

Yeah.

John Mino

Jim, I'm shocked that you don't know that this isn't,

Jim Schmidt

you know, one of your in your real house.

Yeah.

And I use the grill like I'll use it in the winter, too.

Yeah.

It's right on the deck.

John Mino

Yeah.

But you make your own pizzas.

I do.

Great.

I

Jim Schmidt

do because I like him.

Oh,

John Mino

he's big time in this.

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt

I do like pizza.

This is really, really, I'm telling you, I've never had, is it called smoked pizza or just pizza on the grill?

No, pizza on the grill.

Just pizza on the grill.

Pizza on the grill.

All right, it's great.

Love it.

And what did you just make?

What is on there?

Danny Bain

That's going to be our cinnamon meal.

It's going to be our dessert option.

It has a delicious cinnamon granola-y, crispy.

Cream cheesy deliciousness.

I don't sound good at all.

John Mino

Why is it going to be ready?

I just heard Officer Craig put on his brakes.

He's coming back with a siren on.

Like she said

Jim Schmidt

with coffee, that would be great.

Absolutely.

Danny Bain

Wow.

How many

Jim Schmidt

varieties of pizza does Papa Murphy's have?

And I know I kind of said a jazillion, but I mean, do you get custom, right?

Danny Bain

Yeah, so you can get create your own on Tuesdays.

That's going to be our special.

You can create your own up to five toppings or we have our signature pizzas or any of our gourmet delight pizzas available.

And you can come in and meet with somebody like my wonderful self.

And I would love to take your order and make your pizza for you.

What's your

John Mino

background on this, Nick?

How'd you get so good at this?

Danny Bain

I honestly give credit to the boss.

John Mino

Yeah, right here.

Come on.

Danny Bain

Honestly,

John Mino

I'd have to give

Danny Bain

credit to my kids.

John Mino

My kids

Danny Bain

actually worked for Papa Murphy's before me.

They started when they were 14.

And I used to stop and visit them just to get pizza and to get that employee discount that they had.

And it was great.

Well, she's very honest.

I met the boss and the owners and we kind of hit it off right away personality and work wise.

And I just kind of dug right in.

I learned about pizza dough and I learned about, you know, yeast and all the

baking kind of metrics, and I just ran with it since then.

Jim Schmidt

Danny, how is it the employee basic?

If I'm a good employee,

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

that's always the challenge, right?

We're very lucky to have awesome people that work with us.

That's the key.

We've had managers that have worked with us for 15, 16 years.

John Mino

We have new

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

people that have new high school kids.

John Mino

They

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

graduate eventually, but yeah, we have a good mix of veterans and new kids that...

That's

Jim Schmidt

awesome.

It's their

Nikki (Papa Murphy's)

first job of their junior senior in high school and

Jim Schmidt

get to make some money.

I don't want to gloss over it.

You do a lot of charity work for the community.

I mean, your name's on a lot of things.

You're helping high schools, booster clubs, all that kind of stuff.

And with that, we're

John Mino

going to sit our quick break.

We're going to be moving inside.

We're going to be back with more with Papa Murphy's.

Folks, we can't say enough good things about how delicious this is.

Back, mine on the mayor, right after this.

Host

So I chose this hot never plays a song without a meeting.

Co-Host

I chose this song because you guys made the dessert.

The cinnamon

Unidentified Guest

desert.

I was, you know, if you had given me a multiple, I would have guessed that.

Would you have?

I would have.

I said that really smells good.

That is cinnamon.

You can smell it outside.

Co-Host

Get real close to those mics, guys.

Yeah, pull on up.

Papa Murphy's this morning, man.

Um, Danny.

Host

So you guys can be one of a weekly presence on this show.

Yeah.

How hungry are you guys every hour?

Oh

Co-Host

my gosh.

I was just, I was like running around and every time I ran past out there, I grabbed another piece.

Host

It reminded me of a fourth of July, pulling into my, my aunt's camp is we call it up in the UP and they'd have, you know, the fire going out there

Unidentified Guest

and

Host

the, and the, and stuff.

And that was because that.

I still think smells conjure up memories better than anything.

And the smell of you guys roasting that pizza out there brought me back to those memories.

Just that smell is awesome with that crust.

Isn't it though?

Yep.

There's just nothing.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Nothing quite like it.

No.

Brats on the grill and hamburgers and celery.

I mean, that's a whole nother smell.

But yeah, pizza on the grill is just fantastic.

Co-Host

Danny, tell us what locations you're involved with.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah.

So Danny Bain, by the way.

SPEAKER_??

Yep.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

The Howard location to in Green Bay on Main Street Mason Street and then both the locations into peer and then locations in the five and Appleton Tell me where you are into peer into peer at East to peer in West to peer.

Host

Yeah, and I'll tell you what with you guys though to people When they when they buy your pizza they take it home and they cook it anywhere they want Okay, and we've all been to pizza places where it's like that crust wasn't done well enough or that crust was too well done and you know what?

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

That's the best part about doing it.

Host

Absolutely.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Do it

Host

exactly

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

how you want to do

Host

it.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah.

I would just recommend to people like 15 to 18 minutes on the tray.

If you want a little crispier, it'll easily slide off there for another two minutes.

And that's how you can kind of dial in your crispiness.

Host

I'm, I'm, I always kind of look at the bottom when I get a pizza.

Cause I want to see a little bit of that scorchedness.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Color is flavor.

That's the tasty part.

Host

And that's the thing is okay.

So Jim was talking, he wants to try that, but you want to do what?

with your brick, the hardwood?

Unidentified Guest

Oh, I have a gas grill.

So I'm going to put in wood chips.

Host

I've

Unidentified Guest

never heard of that.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

So

Unidentified Guest

that's the way we do smoked chicken, right?

Because I don't have a smoker, although I should get one because they're not.

But anyway, I don't have a smoker.

My brother does.

Oh, you got to get one.

But if you put wood chips with some water in there, that will create that same smell that you're

Host

getting

Unidentified Guest

off the charcoal.

So that's

Host

very expensive.

So when you do that, when you get that going, do you keep the lid on to keep all the smoke

Unidentified Guest

in?

I do,

Host

because

Unidentified Guest

if you're...

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Because

Host

that's what you're doing, right, Nick?

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yes.

That's what also helps to melt the cheese.

Right.

If you're

Unidentified Guest

looking, it ain't cooking.

Host

Oh, my gosh.

What?

Todd.

Todd.

What?

I'd like a little cinnamon roll.

You want me to bring you something?

That would

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

be kind

Host

of nice.

I mean a piece

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

of

Host

cinnamon roll?

Todd, I'm doing it for our clients.

I'm doing it for them.

Again, I do

Unidentified Guest

everything

Host

for the

Unidentified Guest

people.

But Daddy, just tell us about online, our website, just so we can order.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Absolutely.

So we have an app.

Or you can go to our website, patmurphy.com, place your order.

You can give the stores any store a telephone call and go ahead and place your order.

Or you can come right in and place your order with one of our wonderful staff

Host

members.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

We also run multiple specials on Tuesday.

We have our large pizzas are 10.99 and our families are 13.99.

Unidentified Guest

Yeah, that's amazing.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

And you can create your own.

And it's really fun to see the different recipes and combinations that the guests come up with.

And then like Father's Day, for example, we do do a special promotion.

Dads love pizzas along with grandpa's.

So we will have a special promo going for that.

Unidentified Speaker

This is horrible.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Absolutely.

It's breakfast.

It's delicious.

Unidentified Speaker

Oh my God.

Tell us again what this is.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

So this is going to be our cinnamon meal.

This is going to be our dessert option.

It's got a cinnamon butter spread and then it has a granola brown sugar crisp that goes on the top.

I went ahead and braided the crust for you guys this morning to give you a little bit more of that flavor from the grill.

There are multiple options available online that people create their own items with our pizzas.

They take them home and- This crust is

Host

perfect.

You see what I mean about that scorch underneath?

Wonderful.

Unidentified Guest

That's perfect.

Excellent.

When we buy that, that comes with the butter.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yep, that comes with the butter.

Unidentified Guest

Okay, cool.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

And then we also have... Just for

Unidentified Guest

the butter.

Just so

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

you know, don't come, just get the butter.

Extra cups, only 50 cents.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

All right, all right.

We have a lot to

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

say.

I'm gonna use this butter on

Host

my face.

Unidentified Guest

Yeah,

Host

okay.

This is so good.

Yeah.

Unidentified Guest

That smells great.

Yeah, good.

Host

You gotta try it.

Here,

Unidentified Guest

seriously, try it.

Do you have, okay, this is cinnamon.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yes.

Unidentified Guest

Do you have other varieties or cinnamon?

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Cinnamon is primarily our staple right now.

Yeah.

Sometimes we'll get lucky and we'll run up special limited time only option, but right now we're focusing on our limited time only as a pizza option.

We have our summer selects available right now and it's a great deal.

They're only $8.99 and there's a couple options that you can choose from.

and it's just great for the summer options.

Not only for adults, but kids.

Kids in high school, you got any young boys.

I mean, their friends are coming over, grab up a pizza.

Unidentified Guest

Everybody loves pizza,

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

right?

And

Unidentified Guest

when kids come over, it's pizza, pizza, pizza.

Host

But I can't, okay, you get up, you're camping someplace, you get out of the tent or whatever.

Mama or whomever has this cooking on the grill.

Mama, mama.

And you walk out, how great would this be to have a camp site?

And pause with the banjos.

What?

What did I say wrong?

Unidentified Guest

Mama.

And

Host

mom was

Unidentified Guest

there, she's cooking and I said, pause with the banjo.

Host

So anyway, I just thought.

Ignore

Unidentified Guest

him.

Host

Yes, please.

This is delicious.

This is absolutely fantastic.

I'm not just saying that.

Co-Host

It's good stuff.

Thanks for coming in and treating us and just having some fun with us this morning.

They were here last night too.

So they did double duty for us.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Oh, you did

Co-Host

Pete?

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

Yeah.

We slept in the studio.

Did you?

All right.

Pulling the night shift.

Co-Host

They may or may not have had a couple of spotted hanging out someplace ago.

Nikki Bain (Papa Murphy's)

I'm

Co-Host

just saying.

SPEAKER_??

All right.

Host

Jim was brinking up Sunday before we left outside about what you guys do for the community.

Talk

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

a little bit about that.

That's a priority for you

Unidentified Guest

guys.

People know, but

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's)

those who don't know need to know.

Yeah, we do some fundraising nights at individual stores.

We have an email you can email into if you're a group, a church, a school, you know, sports team that wants to raise money.

So that's pmwisconsin.com.

If you ever want to send an email there, we'll return it and get back to you.

And then we also do some pizza sales where we've raised $2,000, $3,000 for some causes that people give.

We give them the sell sheet.

They can go sell and they make certain dollars for pizza.

Yeah, we've raised a lot of money.

What a great

Host

asset to the entire community.

Check

Unidentified Guest

all the boxes.

That's awesome.

Host

You guys are the absolute best.

Nikki and Danny Bame, Green Bay Pop and Murphy.

You got to check it out, folks.

It's truly, it's truly fantastic.

Thank you both so very, very much.

Thank you guys.

Thanks for having us.

Unidentified Guest

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

Well, this is

John Mino

so great.

So DaddyDProductions, you guys are finishing up.

Shall we talk to us here?

We've talked here.

I know.

How mad were you at me last week when I pointed

Shelly

out something about your husband?

I laughed really hard.

I can't believe I was up early enough to even see it.

He gets that a lot.

Don't worry about it.

I was really proud.

Really proud.

Dennis Pettiers

Now, if people didn't...

weren't tuned in, I'm the dum-dum that had my shirt on inside out.

Shelly

Because

Dennis Pettiers

I dressed in the dark.

Barely

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

noticed

Dennis Pettiers

it.

They wouldn't have noticed it if you didn't see anything, John.

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

John was the compassionate host who pointed it out.

Just when I forgot.

For the rest

John Mino

of the show.

Okay, can I just say something?

Dennis was over there and he was going...

I never

Announcer

let facts

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

stand

John Mino

in

Announcer

the

John Mino

way of a good story

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

Just so you know

Facts ran out kind of like in the 90s.

They had their they had the facts.

John Mino

Yeah.

Yeah.

All right.

Daddy D with American machines and you guys.

OK, talk about the difference between or is it what you're doing at the Riverside and your last show is what tonight

Dennis Pettiers

tonight?

Yeah, we're doing the old time rock and roll show.

That's with our Daddy D productions group.

That's the big group.

We've got a full band.

We've got four vocalists, all kinds of production.

Kevin that tonight.

Kevin Van As is with Alicia, Michelle plays the violin, all kinds of

Amazing folks.

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

I'm sure a lot of people have seen you, but you really bring the energy to that room.

I mean, that's, yeah, you're pointing to him.

You're a big part of it too.

Shelly

I'm there too, yes.

But

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

yeah, we talk, Daddy, about Green Bay has got some great companies and what they give back, but you're one of those.

I mean, we wouldn't call you a company, but you're, you just do a lot

Dennis Pettiers

for Green Bay.

Well, everything do for better.

19 years.

Yeah, it has, right?

19 years we've been doing this.

I can't believe it since we were how old, babe.

Shelly

Seven.

Seven.

Yeah.

Seven.

You guys went to school together, right?

Yeah, we did.

Seat

Dennis Pettiers

Norbert

Alicia Michelle

College, baby.

There

John Mino

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

Your college is seven?

John Mino

Yes.

Tonight is military night for the Green Bay blister.

Oh, I saw that.

Both you and

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

you, both veterans, thank you for that.

Hey, man.

Hey, well, by the way, we're going to be there.

My lovely spouse and I will be at the game tonight.

Awesome.

Dennis Pettiers

Awesome.

That's a good

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

time.

Dennis Pettiers

Army guy.

Hula.

Hula.

Yeah.

So we enjoy every one of our shows, no matter where we are or where we go, we like to introduce the veterans.

And I will tell you, it's because it's a tradition, it gets lost on me.

And when it starts to, somebody comes up and says, what a big deal it is to him.

And then it brings it back like, oh, this is really a good idea to do it.

The audience loves it.

You

John Mino

both raised your right hand.

Said you're ready willing and able to put your life in the line for our country No matter what happens after that it's out of your control But you had the courage to raise that right hand and that means everything

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

I

John Mino

was going

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

to say, let me count the ways it's out of our control.

No,

Dennis Pettiers

no, indeed.

That's a fact.

Despite the

John Mino

promises of a recruiter.

Dennis Pettiers

Well, you know, it's funny.

I was I went down to the MEP Center and I was going to be a newscaster.

Me too.

And the guy switched me.

He goes, wouldn't your parents rather have an engineer?

And he signed me up to be a demolitions engineer.

What a weasel.

Oh, I don't know.

I

John Mino

think fighting land mines is a pretty good thing that.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

I mean, Dennis

John Mino

introduced these people.

They're going to

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

send me overseas to be a

behind the lines radar guy

John Mino

sending

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

up radar communications behind enemy lines.

That's what they're going

John Mino

to do to

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

me.

Dennis Pettiers

Yeah.

Well, you're smart

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

enough.

You'll figure it out.

Okay.

Dennis Pettiers

Right.

Yeah.

And when you got our smaller group, American Honey, there's four of us.

Shelly, myself, Tony Pezzavento and Alicia Michelle.

Sometimes we go as three, but a lot of times as four as well because the summers, a lot of people aren't going to pay for a ticket to sit inside.

We kind of go around the places with the four of us and play a lot of, you know, more intimate venues and all that kind of stuff.

intimate that's what the love is yeah what are you gonna sort of play for us to do a little Johnny Cash this morning oh I would love that why wouldn't we huh hey man you want me to chime in or no uh shelly

Alicia Michelle

yep let me take

Dennis Pettiers

your part

Alicia Michelle

you're singing your

Dennis Pettiers

head

Alicia Michelle

daddy's saying bass

And I hear the whistle blowin' On down a ceiling joint When I was just a baby Mama told me, son Always be a good boy Don't you ever play with guns But I shot a man in Shino Just to watch him die Shot him twice And I hear the whistle blowin' I hit my head and cried

Yeah?

Tony Pezzavento

Hey!

Dennis Pettiers

Now, you want to send out a verse to all the folks in

Tony Pezzavento

the great state of

Dennis Pettiers

Wisconsin?

If the city that you're from isn't in this song,

It doesn't mean we don't love you.

It just means it doesn't rhyme with anything.

We're starting Appleton.

You know what?

Two.

What?

Two?

That was awesome!

That is good.

How long did it take

John Mino

you to get all the

Dennis Pettiers

ones down?

I would love to tell you it took a long time, but some of the stuff comes, that was a quick one, for whatever reason.

Well, I grew up in Howard, so I kind of knew all of those places there.

There you go.

That is

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

fantastic.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

I was waiting to see how you'd find a way to fit a conema walk.

A

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

conema walk, yeah.

I do want to say that that's emblematic of your shows.

They are local.

I think part of the reason that you guys were born and raised here, but secondly, you just

Love this community, you can tell when you're up there.

Dennis Pettiers

Well, thank you so much.

We try and implement local things, but not too local, because you never know who's out there.

In fact, we did a show for the American Legion, and this is about to...

two years ago, and it was a local show, and then there was somebody in the audience, and they're like, hey, do you guys travel?

And I'm like, yeah, we'll travel.

They're like, well, we have the Midwest Convention, and we'd like to bring your group to the Midwest Convention.

Might be in Minnesota, it might be in Iowa, it might be in Illinois,

Shelly

and she might

Dennis Pettiers

be in Wisconsin.

And I said, okay, we had the day open, they're like, good, I'll call you in a week.

They call back, they're like, hey, good news, they planned it, it's in Wisconsin.

at Oneida Bingo and Casino.

And I'm like, okay, well, that's fine, which was great.

And we had about five, 600 people at this thing.

We do the show and I get off the stage and the person stops me and they're like, hey, do you guys travel?

And I'm like, yeah, where are we going?

Like Croco

Shelly

or whatever,

Dennis Pettiers

you know?

And they said, no, a little further than that, you give me your phone number.

I'm gonna text you.

There's a committee.

You tell them what.

They tell you, I'll tell you what they tell me will make this happen.

Here, it was the national president of the American Legion.

They flew us out to Charlotte, North Carolina, the whole group, and we performed for all of them there in Charlotte.

So we had the entertainment for the National Convention.

John Mino

You're not by chance doing the Wisconsin Convention this year,

Dennis Pettiers

are you?

We are.

We're doing the Midwest

John Mino

Convention

Dennis Pettiers

this year, yeah.

You know the featured speakers?

Who's that?

The mayor?

Tell him, Shelley.

Shelly

It's my nose.

Oh, that's fantastic.

Dennis Pettiers

Yeah.

Well, we'll save us a seat.

Shelly

Absolutely.

That'll be

Dennis Pettiers

fun.

And listen, I'm not.

I don't want you to think that I'm saying that to brag.

I'm not.

We're not saying that to break what I'm.

I'm just very proud that we can do a mom and pop.

That's what I want to say.

A thing that can travel nationwide and people dig it, man.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

What a song about

John Mino

it.

Yeah.

Right.

Dennis, there's something special.

OK, so.

So you have the glamban and then you have your acoustic group almost exactly along the same lines with them Sometimes it's nice to break away and do something a little bit more.

What's the best way of put it?

Not personal but more

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

from

John Mino

you know what I mean?

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

It's a different different approach all together different different brain cells are being used

Dennis Pettiers

What do you guys enjoy more?

Well, you know at this point

Gotta catch me on ask me on what night yeah, but it's one of those things like you know I'm getting a little bit older my wife never ages But sometimes when you do we do the smaller group show you'll have people who have no idea who you are They didn't pay you to buy a ticket there They're not just coming to see you and if they still turn around at the bar stools and clap

then you should still be doing it.

And if they don't, then maybe, maybe it's time to think about, you know.

Announcer

Don't think

Dennis Pettiers

about it too hard,

Announcer

man.

Maybe the conversation's pretty heavy.

Maybe that advice goes for radio hosts, too.

I'm just saying.

How dare you, sir.

John Mino

What are

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

you

John Mino

talking about, Schwabba, that way?

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

Who writes your shows?

Too much time you spend doing that.

They're different.

Shelly

That's this guy.

You do, huh?

Well, that's a good... He actually... You know, sometimes it'll be new material at rehearsal that we have no idea it's coming.

He wrote a parody on a song from Get Back, and it is about his...

Is it uncle or grandpa?

Grandpa Jojo.

Dennis Pettiers

Oh, nice.

Shelly

Who clucks like a chicken.

Yeah.

And you guys would not believe how funny it is.

It

Dennis Pettiers

was really dumb.

We also, like, I like

Shelly

to do a parody, like

Dennis Pettiers

if Elmer Fudd was really cast as Danny Zuko in Greece, you know, Wabbit season, had me a blast.

Alicia Michelle

It was fun, you know.

Dennis Pettiers

Is it

John Mino

more, okay, when you guys, like, Dennis, when you do your little acoustic.

Yeah.

ensemble and you guys is this more of the real you versus the characters you play in the bigger events?

Is this more of the real you coming out?

Dennis Pettiers

Yeah, I think so.

And it's the music that we picked that we can do of all the genre.

Exactly.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

Yeah, I think especially I think when in this element you're actually digging deeper into yourself.

You're actually finding more of more of really who you are.

And on the fly.

That's

John Mino

what I mean.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

And it's a real present.

Our drill sergeants would always say, situation awareness will keep you alive on the battlefield.

And I also want to say, and on the

Tony Pezzavento

stage.

Interviewee (possibly a member of the Glam Band)

Because there's something to it.

It's an incredible alertness.

as you're doing this, you're trying to entertain, and something comes up on the fly, and you figure out something different, something new, comes out of your mouth you never thought of, never would have thought of, comes out, maybe sometimes people laugh, maybe they won't.

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

But you'll

Alicia Michelle

have

Jim Schmidt (The Mayor)

that.

They do, they do.

I was just looking at my phone, but I, pictures when you were that Elmer Fudd thing with the, I have pictures of that, and that was hilarious.

John Mino

We got set up right, but I gotta tell you one thing that blew me away what you did one night, Shelley, I was backstage with you guys at the Meyer years ago, and you did the Lucille Ball thing?

Oh yeah.

Oh my god, that was incredible.

Nice.

Oh, that was

Dennis Pettiers

unbelievable.

John Mino

We can't get rid of that

Dennis Pettiers

bit.

Yeah.

Don't.

Don't.

It's

John Mino

unbelievable.

We get started at Quick Break.

Back with more Big Daddy Deep Productions, our live music series reminder of the mayor and American honey back after

Alicia Michelle

this.

Unidentified speaker

So I told her we'd still

be

friends And we made our

And right at the very top, there's the phone numbers.

So just go to the Facebook page.

And if you can't remember the phone number, don't have the pen, ink or the fax machine to write the phone number down.

Just

Dennis Peters (host)

who's working?

Who's working the phone?

Shelly Johnson

That's me.

Oh, OK.

Dennis Peters (host)

Yeah.

Yeah.

Shelly Johnson

Mom, do

David Johnson

that for a while.

You know, it's funny.

She was great.

Well, I would I would transfer the phone because we were it.

I mean, we're truly a mom and pop.

It's Shelly and I when now with the, you know, the way things are, so many more people order online.

So that helps a bunch.

But we'll have people and I call they leave a message.

I give Michelle back.

But yeah, we were at the point where a mom was helping out.

My mom's 80.

Remember what tell sec was

Shelly Johnson

a big thing back in the day.

What did you should have tell sec or something like that doing something?

I don't well, you know, I

David Johnson

like to talk to people, you know, I like to be but you're a busy guy, you know Yeah,

Dennis Peters (host)

that's it.

That's it.

You want some fries with that?

Wait a minute.

We got to read this

a special medical alert here, right?

That's right.

Do we have music?

Do you want

Unidentified speaker

more music?

I mean, it's a

Dennis Peters (host)

medical thing.

Perfect.

That was perfect.

Unidentified speaker

Yeah, go for it.

All right,

Dennis Peters (host)

ladies and gentlemen,

Unidentified speaker

we

Dennis Peters (host)

have

a special medical alert here.

Not that we need to give John any more ammo,

but you can let John

know that there is some validity to the pickle juice theory.

It has been used in

Unidentified speaker

athletics

Dennis Peters (host)

for quite some time.

Unidentified speaker

I think there is a

Dennis Peters (host)

back order on it right now, maybe next year at the Bell and Run.

Rollin'

Unidentified speaker

Schmidt.

Dennis Peters (host)

Yeah!

Thank you very much We

Unidentified speaker

Good investment.

David Johnson

We do some tours.

We're going to put some people on a bus.

They leave from, like, St.

Mark Ministries in Depeere because they can park in the parking lot.

We take them out to Sonny's Pizza.

They

Bring it home!

Yeah!

Dennis Peters (host)

Love

Unidentified speaker

it.

Love it.

That's my all-time favorite song.

That's the one thing I could

Dennis Peters (host)

do.

I do that.

Roll it.

Oh, it's nice, man.

David Johnson

Roll

Dennis Peters (host)

it.

You were like, you know, I am like.

Hope you have fun at the bell, and tomorrow I'll be running, of course.

Have a great Father's Day, everybody!

Unidentified speaker

Happy

Dennis Peters (host)

Father's Day!

See ya!

John Mino (host)

Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.

And here are your hosts, John Mino and Jim

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Jim Schmidt (host)

Yeah Papa Murphy's makes great pizza and we've been going to your place for but it's cooked in the oven you cook this on the grill

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah, this one on the grill.

It's just new.

No, we've been trying to get people to grill.

Cooked pizza on the grill.

What

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

a great idea.

What are the... Nikki's actually doing the work.

Cheers,

Jim Schmidt (host)

Andrew.

He's just taking

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

credit.

Nikki, come on over here.

You're running around doing all the work.

He's just here to be a big time guy.

Taking the credit.

These are so good.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Thank you.

I'm glad you're enjoying them.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Oh, man, are we enjoying them.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Absolutely.

They're tasty, fresh made this morning by yours truly.

And we're glad to be out here today.

It's a beautiful day in Green Bay.

What's the

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

secret of getting this crust so good?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Actually, we go on every day early morning.

We make it fresh.

But then with

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

the grilling part, give us some secrets on grilling it so you don't burn it or so it's not too raw.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Sure.

I like to proof my crust.

So a lot of times you're going to leave your pizza in the refrigerator to keep your toppings all nice and fresh.

But you're going to want to pull that out and let it actually come to room temperature for about an hour.

And then you're going to want to put it into the oven or onto the grill.

Jim Schmidt (host)

It has a different flavor.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Doesn't it, Jim?

Yeah, absolutely.

I've never

Jim Schmidt (host)

had smoked pizza.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

And I

Jim Schmidt (host)

love your pizza.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Excellent.

The charcoal really does make a big difference.

I've heard people are getting more creative with their smokers.

But I'm a little old fashioned.

I like to sit out in my lawn chair, enjoy a drink, and grill out.

But you put that even on,

Jim Schmidt (host)

I have gas grill, but you put those wood chips in there.

That gives it that smoke

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

flavor.

So I'm going to try that.

Yeah, absolutely.

And for

Jim Schmidt (host)

Father's Day, I still like to grill, but the kids can buy the pizza.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yes.

And it's a great recommendation for babysitters.

If you and the wife maybe want to go out and have a more special dinner,

You know, you can get pizza and have those kids all happy at home as well.

Yeah.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

And the freshest pizza, too.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

I mean, you guys are

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

all about this.

This is, I mean, I'm not joking about this.

This is delicious.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

This

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

is really, really good.

And it's unique.

It's pizza like I've never tasted pizza before being grilled.

Yeah.

Do you guys use any special type of charcoal or anything?

No, she just

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

bought some.

Really?

I like to stay away from the briquettes.

They don't burn as fast.

Okay.

So I like to get that hardwood clump stuff.

But, you know, like you were saying, there's plenty of different flavors.

But don't discount the wood chips on the

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

gas grills.

Yeah.

Could you do this?

OK, you were talking about camping and different things.

Could you do this over a wood fire?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah.

The tripod, absolutely.

OK.

We have a

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

piece of stone that's on the grill.

So if you do that, it just helps disperse the heat a little bit.

You just don't want direct heat onto

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

the pizza.

God, so it doesn't

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

burn?

Correct.

You want to do it on indirect heat?

So

Jim Schmidt (host)

this is good for any I mean how

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

many different pizzas do you have like a

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

million?

I've never been a fan of like vegetable pizza you guys put a vegetable pizza on there I just had it

Tastes completely different than any vegetable people.

It was

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

a recommendation.

That's one of our gourmet delights.

And it's very popular among our guests.

Wow.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Guilt free pizza.

You

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

can try

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

to

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

go.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

I know, right?

Get the

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

veggies

Jim Schmidt (host)

in.

Oh my

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

gosh.

Yeah.

This is so good.

And I'm not just saying that I've never tasted pizza with that kind of a flavor before.

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt (host)

And Danny, you I think a lot of us, while people listening, they listen, you know, here, Mantua, Appleton, Oshkosh.

We're your locations.

You guys are you're you're.

You're big time.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Oh, we have just the location of bandits walk one there and then five in the Green Bay area.

So one in Howard, two in Green Bay and then two in Depeer.

And then we have five in the Appleton area as well.

There's also a location.

Jim Schmidt (host)

It's got like 14, 15 locations.

That's

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

awesome.

Yeah.

Got to keep Nikki busy.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Who came up with that?

Officer Craig.

Officer Craig.

We need somebody to get officer.

Look at that.

He's fading away to nothing.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Bring him

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

some pizza for crying out loud.

Look at that poor guy.

Oh my gosh.

You're looking good, Craig.

Yeah, Craig.

Have a little something.

Have some nourishment if you're going to patrol our streets.

My goodness.

Or the cop's pretty good clients.

Jim Schmidt (host)

The cop's a good pizza guy.

Well, Officer Craig, how are you, sir?

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Officer Craig, have you ever had a grilled pizza before?

I

John Mino (host)

have not.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

You're going to

John Mino (host)

love this.

I can't wait to see it.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Fantastic.

This is unbelievable.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Go

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

step inside.

Don't try taking it from Jim.

You do not want to try taking it away from Jim's hands.

Jim Schmidt (host)

This

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

is good stuff.

Oh, man.

This is great.

This

Jim Schmidt (host)

is a piece

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

on the diet of police

Jim Schmidt (host)

officers.

Absolutely.

John Mino (host)

That sounds fantastic.

That's

Jim Schmidt (host)

what she said.

It can work.

I'm going to give this a whirl.

Oh,

John Mino (host)

look at that.

I know, right?

Jim Schmidt (host)

Yeah.

Breakfast pizza, right?

Yeah.

Absolutely.

Doesn't even just

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

smell good?

Lunch pizza,

Jim Schmidt (host)

whatever.

Did bacon and Canadian bacon on that one?

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Just like a... Oh, yeah, back bacon on there.

Oh, I'm basically Canadian, so I can call

Jim Schmidt (host)

it back bacon.

That is

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

awesome.

What do you think, officer?

Great.

Awesome.

Isn't that great?

Mm-hmm.

Nicky, tell us a little bit about how long you have to cook it to make it like that.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

I would say roughly around 15 minutes.

Okay.

If you like it crispier, you know, you're going to want to leave it on there.

Some people like their pizzas a little more doughy, so low and slow is the way to go with that.

John Mino (host)

Okay.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

We do have multiple crusts, so we have original crust, thin crust, and we have a gluten-free option that we did bring today for everyone to try.

We're

Jim Schmidt (host)

eating gluten-free.

Can you believe that?

That's what we're eating.

Yeah, yes.

It's good for you.

See, John,

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

you can do this.

And it's very healthy.

Jim Schmidt (host)

What

John Mino (host)

is

Jim Schmidt (host)

he always looking at me when he talks about stuff like that?

I was looking

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

at your gut.

Oh

Jim Schmidt (host)

my

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

God!

This is great.

Wow.

So tell me a little bit how you came up with this.

Give us a background on Papa Murphy's.

It's been such a staple in the community.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah.

The brand is about 30 years old, but it started out West and there's been some stores that are 20, 25 years old around here.

Wow.

But yeah, we've been around in the community.

do a lot of fundraising in the community.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

I know you do.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

And definitely try to just get to know our people, get to know our guests.

And

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

it's not an easy gig because everybody has their own type of pizza they can do.

And you guys have found a way to make a niche that is just truly successful.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah, definitely try to make it easy.

Don't have to go out and have an expensive meal or chase the kids around and keep them corralled at home.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Wow.

However, people say that once a while.

There's a lot of pizza places.

But pizza is the number one food that people want.

Hands down over sub sandwiches cheeseburgers hamburgers.

It's pizza.

John Mino (host)

Yeah,

Jim Schmidt (host)

I mean there's a market there, too You just like Johnny just said you kind of carved out a really cool niche that you make it as fresh as can be and yeah, take it home and boom Yeah, but if you

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

don't have good crust we've talked about

Jim Schmidt (host)

this.

You don't have

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

good pizza Yeah, you put any topping in the world on top of it doesn't matter

Jim Schmidt (host)

Jesus cheese cheese cheese But even when we before we put it in the the oven room temperature is what we or is that just for the grill

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

just because ours is fresh dill

That's why she's talking to proof the crust up to room temperature.

Jim Schmidt (host)

So that'll help

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

it crisp up when you put it in the oven.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Okay,

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

and then

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

what's the other thing you're the cinnamon roll thing you got coming on?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yep, so we actually have that on the grill right now.

That is a dessert option that we offer I like to switch it up a little bit for breakfast.

I like to have it with my coffee It's kind of a sweet and savory, but I also know the kids love it late at night.

I mean, it's a great simple treat

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

So it's not done yet.

That's on the grill right now, right?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Tell

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Officer Craig to leave it alone then.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Absolutely.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Tell him to wait.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Just a few more

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

minutes please.

He's getting a call.

He's got to run to something so

beat it up

Jim Schmidt (host)

he's like how

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

they can wait I'll

John Mino (host)

be there soon I'll

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

be there when I get there thanks for coming by buddy thanks for all you do thank you that's awesome so tell me a little bit more about if somebody buys this is great and I still think camping wise this would be great when you got the

You got the little fire going out there in the campground or whatever.

Tell me how somebody can do this.

You need one of the tripod type things, right?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Correct.

OK.

And then that's going to have a grate over your fire.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Right.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

And you're going to want to let your flames get down real low because you're going to want to use those hot coals just like if you're cooking anything else.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

That's what I was going to ask.

More over the coals than the flames.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Correct.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

OK.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

You can order ahead.

You can call.

You can come in store or you can do the online options.

We have a lot of deals available and discounts available.

A lot of people like to get them on Friday and then they're going to wrap them up and take them up north for the weekend.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Do they

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

come frozen when they buy

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

them from you guys?

Absolutely not.

So they're never frozen?

No.

That's

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

it?

That's the

John Mino (host)

difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

it?

Jim Schmidt (host)

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference, isn't it?

That's the difference,

That's one of the things that separates yours.

That dough is always fresh.

Jim Schmidt (host)

There's really no difference between a frozen pizza and your pizza.

I mean, it's just your pizza is so much better because the frozen has, I like it.

Oh man, we're back up.

You

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

just said there's no dirt in the frozen pizza and their people.

I

Jim Schmidt (host)

think you got that wrong.

You had a big difference.

Totally wrong.

Huge

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

difference.

Huge difference.

Big difference.

Big difference.

90 is what you're trying to say.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Big difference.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Are

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

your taste

Jim Schmidt (host)

buds working this morning?

They are.

That was good.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

That's still.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Yeah, I am.

The big difference is what I'm

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

before.

Yeah, so

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

then you can put the pizza right on.

And we have the white tray that we use.

So you can see that gets a little brown on the

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

bottom.

So you don't put the pizza actually on the actual grates?

We do.

Not on the grates.

That's really OK.

Got it.

OK.

But

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

definitely helps with grilling, for sure, to keep the crust from getting.

You know,

Jim Schmidt (host)

and those stones aren't that expensive.

I mean, yeah, I'd never heard of that before.

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah.

And on the campfire, too, put the grill, put the stone on the great same thing.

Wow.

Yeah.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Jim, I'm shocked that you don't know that this isn't,

Jim Schmidt (host)

you know, one of your in your real house.

Yeah.

And I use the grill like I'll use it in the winter, too.

Yeah.

It's right on the deck.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Yeah.

But you make your own pizzas.

I do.

Great.

I

Jim Schmidt (host)

do because I like him.

Oh,

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

he's big time in this.

Yeah.

Jim Schmidt (host)

I do like pizza.

This is really, really, I'm telling you, I've never had, is it called smoked pizza or just pizza on the grill?

No, pizza on the grill.

Just pizza on the grill.

Pizza on the grill.

All right, it's great.

Love it.

And what did you just make?

What is on there?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

That's going to be our cinnamon meal.

It's going to be our dessert option.

It has a delicious cinnamon granola-y, crispy.

Cream cheesy deliciousness.

I don't sound good at all.

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

Why is it going to be ready?

I just heard Officer Craig put on his brakes.

He's coming back with a siren on.

Like she said

Jim Schmidt (host)

with coffee, that would be great.

Absolutely.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Wow.

How many

Jim Schmidt (host)

varieties of pizza does Papa Murphy's have?

And I know I kind of said a jazillion, but I mean, do you get custom, right?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Yeah, so you can get create your own on Tuesdays.

That's going to be our special.

You can create your own up to five toppings or we have our signature pizzas or any of our gourmet delight pizzas available.

And you can come in and meet with somebody like my wonderful self.

And I would love to take your order and make your pizza for you.

What's your

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

background on this, Nick?

How'd you get so good at this?

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

I honestly give credit to the boss.

John Mino (host)

Yeah, right here.

Come on.

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

Honestly,

John Mino (host)

I'd have to give

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

credit to my kids.

John Mino (host)

My kids

Nikki (Papa Murphy's representative)

actually worked for Papa Murphy's before me.

Jim Schmidt (host)

Danny, how is it the employee basic?

If I'm a good employee,

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

that's always the challenge, right?

We're very lucky to have awesome people that work with us.

That's the key.

We've had managers that have worked with us for 15, 16 years.

John Mino (host)

We have new

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

people that have new high school kids.

John Mino (host)

They

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

graduate eventually, but yeah, we have a good mix of veterans and new kids that...

That's

Jim Schmidt (host)

awesome.

It's their

Danny Bain (Papa Murphy's representative)

first job of their junior senior in high school and

Jim Schmidt (host)

get to make some money.

I don't want to gloss over it.

You do a lot of charity work for the community.

I mean, your name's on a lot of things.

You're helping high schools, booster clubs, all that kind of stuff.

And with that, we're

John/Jim (possible overlapping hosts)

going to sit our quick break.

We're going to be moving inside.

We're going to be back with more with Papa Murphy's.

Folks, we can't say enough good things about how delicious this is.

Back, mine on the mayor, right after this.

Radio Host

So I chose this hot never plays a song without a meeting.

Nikki Bain

I chose this song because you guys made the dessert.

The cinnamon

Co-Host

desert.

I was, you know, if you had given me a multiple, I would have guessed that.

Would you have?

I would have.

I said that really smells good.

That is cinnamon.

You can smell it outside.

Nikki Bain

Get real close to those mics, guys.

Yeah, pull on up.

Papa Murphy's this morning, man.

Um, Danny.

Radio Host

So you guys can be one of a weekly presence on this show.

Yeah.

How hungry are you guys every hour?

Oh

Nikki Bain

my gosh.

I was just, I was like running around and every time I ran past out there, I grabbed another piece.

Radio Host

It reminded me of a fourth of July, pulling into my, my aunt's camp is we call it up in the UP and they'd have, you know, the fire going out there

Co-Host

and

Radio Host

the, and the, and stuff.

And that was because that.

I still think smells conjure up memories better than anything.

And the smell of you guys roasting that pizza out there brought me back to those memories.

Just that smell is awesome with that crust.

Isn't it though?

Yep.

There's just nothing.

Danny Bain

Nothing quite like it.

No.

Brats on the grill and hamburgers and celery.

I mean, that's a whole nother smell.

But yeah, pizza on the grill is just fantastic.

Nikki Bain

Danny, tell us what locations you're involved with.

Danny Bain

Yeah.

So Danny Bain, by the way.

SPEAKER_??

Yep.

Danny Bain

The Howard location to in Green Bay on Main Street Mason Street and then both the locations into peer and then locations in the five and Appleton Tell me where you are into peer into peer at East to peer in West to peer.

Radio Host

Yeah, and I'll tell you what with you guys though to people When they when they buy your pizza they take it home and they cook it anywhere they want Okay, and we've all been to pizza places where it's like that crust wasn't done well enough or that crust was too well done and you know what?

Danny Bain

That's the best part about doing it.

Radio Host

Absolutely.

Danny Bain

Do it

Radio Host

exactly

Danny Bain

how you want to do

Radio Host

it.

Danny Bain

Yeah.

I would just recommend to people like 15 to 18 minutes on the tray.

If you want a little crispier, it'll easily slide off there for another two minutes.

And that's how you can kind of dial in your crispiness.

Radio Host

I'm, I'm, I always kind of look at the bottom when I get a pizza.

Cause I want to see a little bit of that scorchedness.

Papa Murphy's Staff

Color is flavor.

That's the tasty part.

Radio Host

And that's the thing is okay.

So Jim was talking, he wants to try that, but you want to do what?

with your brick, the hardwood?

Co-Host

Oh, I have a gas grill.

So I'm going to put in wood chips.

Radio Host

I've

Co-Host

never heard of that.

Danny Bain

So

Co-Host

that's the way we do smoked chicken, right?

Because I don't have a smoker, although I should get one because they're not.

But anyway, I don't have a smoker.

My brother does.

Oh, you got to get one.

But if you put wood chips with some water in there, that will create that same smell that you're

Radio Host

getting

Co-Host

off the charcoal.

So that's

Radio Host

very expensive.

So when you do that, when you get that going, do you keep the lid on to keep all the smoke

Co-Host

in?

I do,

Radio Host

because

Co-Host

if you're...

Danny Bain

Because

Radio Host

that's what you're doing, right, Nick?

Danny Bain

Yes.

That's what also helps to melt the cheese.

Right.

If you're

Co-Host

looking, it ain't cooking.

Radio Host

Oh, my gosh.

What?

Todd.

Todd.

What?

I'd like a little cinnamon roll.

You want me to bring you something?

That would

Papa Murphy's Staff

be kind

Radio Host

of nice.

I mean a piece

Papa Murphy's Staff

of

Radio Host

cinnamon roll?

Todd, I'm doing it for our clients.

I'm doing it for them.

Again, I do

Co-Host

everything

Radio Host

for the

Co-Host

people.

But Daddy, just tell us about online, our website, just so we can order.

Papa Murphy's Staff

Absolutely.

So we have an app.

Or you can go to our website, patmurphy.com, place your order.

You can give the stores any store a telephone call and go ahead and place your order.

Or you can come right in and place your order with one of our wonderful staff

Radio Host

members.

Papa Murphy's Staff

We also run multiple specials on Tuesday.

We have our large pizzas are 10.99 and our families are 13.99.

Co-Host

Yeah, that's amazing.

Papa Murphy's Staff

And you can create your own.

And it's really fun to see the different recipes and combinations that the guests come up with.

And then like Father's Day, for example, we do do a special promotion.

Dads love pizzas along with grandpa's.

So we will have a special promo going for that.

Unidentified Speaker

This is horrible.

Papa Murphy's Staff

Absolutely.

It's breakfast.

It's delicious.

Unidentified Speaker

Oh my God.

Tell us again what this is.

Papa Murphy's Staff

So this is going to be our cinnamon meal.

This is going to be our dessert option.

It's got a cinnamon butter spread and then it has a granola brown sugar crisp that goes on the top.

I went ahead and braided the crust for you guys this morning to give you a little bit more of that flavor from the grill.

There are multiple options available online that people create their own items with our pizzas.

They take them home and- This crust is

Radio Host

perfect.

You see what I mean about that scorch underneath?

Wonderful.

Co-Host

That's perfect.

Excellent.

When we buy that, that comes with the butter.

Papa Murphy's Staff

Yep, that comes with the butter.

Co-Host

Okay, cool.

Papa Murphy's Staff

And then we also have... Just for

Co-Host

the butter.

Just so

Danny Bain

you know, don't come, just get the butter.

Extra cups, only 50 cents.

Papa Murphy's Staff

All right, all right.

We have a lot to

Danny Bain

say.

I'm gonna use this butter on

Radio Host

my face.

Co-Host

Yeah,

Radio Host

okay.

This is so good.

Yeah.

Co-Host

That smells great.

Yeah, good.

Radio Host

You gotta try it.

Here,

Co-Host

seriously, try it.

Do you have, okay, this is cinnamon.

Papa Murphy's Staff

Yes.

Co-Host

Do you have other varieties or cinnamon?

Papa Murphy's Staff

Cinnamon is primarily our staple right now.

Yeah.

Sometimes we'll get lucky and we'll run up special limited time only option, but right now we're focusing on our limited time only as a pizza option.

We have our summer selects available right now and it's a great deal.

They're only $8.99 and there's a couple options that you can choose from.

and it's just great for the summer options.

Not only for adults, but kids.

Kids in high school, you got any young boys.

I mean, their friends are coming over, grab up a pizza.

Co-Host

Everybody loves pizza,

Papa Murphy's Staff

right?

And

Co-Host

when kids come over, it's pizza, pizza, pizza.

Radio Host

But I can't, okay, you get up, you're camping someplace, you get out of the tent or whatever.

Mama or whomever has this cooking on the grill.

Mama, mama.

And you walk out, how great would this be to have a camp site?

And pause with the banjos.

What?

What did I say wrong?

Co-Host

Mama.

And

Radio Host

mom was

Co-Host

there, she's cooking and I said, pause with the banjo.

Radio Host

So anyway, I just thought.

Ignore

Co-Host

him.

Radio Host

Yes, please.

This is delicious.

This is absolutely fantastic.

I'm not just saying that.

Nikki Bain

It's good stuff.

Thanks for coming in and treating us and just having some fun with us this morning.

They were here last night too.

So they did double duty for us.

Danny Bain

Oh, you did

Nikki Bain

Pete?

Danny Bain

Yeah.

We slept in the studio.

Did you?

All right.

Pulling the night shift.

Nikki Bain

They may or may not have had a couple of spotted hanging out someplace ago.

Papa Murphy's Staff

I'm

Nikki Bain

just saying.

SPEAKER_??

All right.

Radio Host

Jim was brinking up Sunday before we left outside about what you guys do for the community.

Talk

Danny Bain

a little bit about that.

That's a priority for you

Co-Host

guys.

People know, but

Danny Bain

those who don't know need to know.

Radio Host

asset to the entire community.

Check

Co-Host

all the boxes.

That's awesome.

Radio Host

You guys are the absolute best.

Nikki and Danny Bame, Green Bay Pop and Murphy.

You got to check it out, folks.

It's truly, it's truly fantastic.

Thank you both so very, very much.

Thank you guys.

Thanks for having us.

Co-Host

Absolutely.

Barely

Jim Schmidt

noticed

Dennis Pettiers

it.

They wouldn't have noticed it if you didn't see anything, John.

Jim Schmidt

John was the compassionate host who pointed it out.

Just when I forgot.

For the rest

John Mino

of the show.

Okay, can I just say something?

Dennis was over there and he was going...

I never

Radio Announcer

let facts

Dennis Pettiers

stand

John Mino

in

Radio Announcer

the

John Mino

way of a good story

Dennis Pettiers

Jim Schmidt

I'm sure a lot of people have seen you, but you really bring the energy to that room.

I mean, that's, yeah, you're pointing to him.

You're a big part of it too.

Shelly

I'm there too, yes.

But

Jim Schmidt

yeah, we talk, Daddy, about Green Bay has got some great companies and what they give back, but you're one of those.

I mean, we wouldn't call you a company, but you're, you just do a lot

Dennis Pettiers

for Green Bay.

Well, everything do for better.

19 years.

Yeah, it has, right?

19 years we've been doing this.

I can't believe it since we were how old, babe.

Shelly

Seven.

Seven.

Yeah.

Seven.

You guys went to school together, right?

Yeah, we did.

Seat

Dennis Pettiers

Norbert

Shelly

College, baby.

There

John Mino

Jim Schmidt

Your college is seven?

John Mino

Yes.

Tonight is military night for the Green Bay blister.

Oh, I saw that.

Both you and

Dennis Pettiers

you, both veterans, thank you for that.

Hey, man.

Hey, well, by the way, we're going to be there.

My lovely spouse and I will be at the game tonight.

Awesome.

Awesome.

That's a good

time.

Army guy.

Hula.

Hula.

Dennis Pettiers

I

John Mino

was going

Dennis Pettiers

to say, let me count the ways it's out of our control.

No,

Dennis Pettiers

I mean, Dennis

John Mino

introduced these people.

They're going to

Dennis Pettiers

send me overseas to be a

behind the lines radar guy

John Mino

sending

Dennis Pettiers

up radar communications behind enemy lines.

That's what they're going

John Mino

to do to

Dennis Pettiers

me.

Yeah.

Well, you're smart

enough.

You'll figure it out.

Okay.

Right.

Shelly

yep let me take

Dennis Pettiers

your part

Shelly

you're singing your

Dennis Pettiers

head

Shelly

daddy's saying bass

And I hear the whistle blowin' On down a ceiling joint When I was just a baby Mama told me, son Always be a good boy Don't you ever play with guns But I shot a man in Shino Just to watch him die Shot him twice And I hear the whistle blowin' I hit my head and cried

Yeah?

Hey!

Dennis Pettiers

Now, you want to send out a verse to all the folks in

Shelly

the great state of

Dennis Pettiers

Wisconsin?

If the city that you're from isn't in this song,

It doesn't mean we don't love you.

It just means it doesn't rhyme with anything.

We're starting Appleton.

You know what?

Two.

What?

Two?

That was awesome!

That is good.

How long did it take

John Mino

you to get all the

Dennis Pettiers

ones down?

I would love to tell you it took a long time, but some of the stuff comes, that was a quick one, for whatever reason.

Well, I grew up in Howard, so I kind of knew all of those places there.

There you go.

That is

Jim Schmidt

fantastic.

Dennis Pettiers

I was waiting to see how you'd find a way to fit a conema walk.

A

Jim Schmidt

conema walk, yeah.

Absolutely.

Dennis Pettiers

from

John Mino

you know what I mean?

Dennis Pettiers

It's a different different approach all together different different brain cells are being used

Radio Announcer

Don't think

Dennis Pettiers

about it too hard,

Radio Announcer

man.

Maybe the conversation's pretty heavy.

Maybe that advice goes for radio hosts, too.

I'm just saying.

How dare you, sir.

John Mino

What are

Jim Schmidt

you

John Mino

talking about, Schwabba, that way?

Jim Schmidt

Who writes your shows?

Too much time you spend doing that.

They're different.

Shelly

That's this guy.

You do, huh?

Well, that's a good... He actually... You know, sometimes it'll be new material at rehearsal that we have no idea it's coming.

He wrote a parody on a song from Get Back, and it is about his...

Is it uncle or grandpa?

Grandpa Jojo.

Dennis Pettiers

Oh, nice.

Shelly

Who clucks like a chicken.

Yeah.

And you guys would not believe how funny it is.

It

Dennis Pettiers

was really dumb.

We also, like, I like

Shelly

to do a parody, like

Dennis Pettiers

if Elmer Fudd was really cast as Danny Zuko in Greece, you know, Wabbit season, had me a blast.

Shelly

It was fun, you know.

Dennis Pettiers

Is it

John Mino

more, okay, when you guys, like, Dennis, when you do your little acoustic.

Yeah.

ensemble and you guys is this more of the real you versus the characters you play in the bigger events?

Is this more of the real you coming out?

Dennis Pettiers

Yeah, I think so.

And it's the music that we picked that we can do of all the genre.

Exactly.

Yeah, I think especially I think when in this element you're actually digging deeper into yourself.

You're actually finding more of more of really who you are.

And on the fly.

That's

John Mino

what I mean.

Dennis Pettiers

And it's a real present.

Our drill sergeants would always say, situation awareness will keep you alive on the battlefield.

And I also want to say, and on the

Shelly

stage.

Dennis Pettiers

Because there's something to it.

It's an incredible alertness.

as you're doing this, you're trying to entertain, and something comes up on the fly, and you figure out something different, something new, comes out of your mouth you never thought of, never would have thought of, comes out, maybe sometimes people laugh, maybe they won't.

Jim Schmidt

But you'll

Shelly

have

Jim Schmidt

Shelly

Shelley Johnson

That's me.

Oh, OK.

Darren Johnson

Yeah.

Yeah.

Shelley Johnson

Mom, do

Darren Johnson

that for a while.

Shelley Johnson

a big thing back in the day.

What did you should have tell sec or something like that doing something?

I don't well, you know, I

Darren Johnson

like to talk to people, you know, I like to be but you're a busy guy, you know Yeah,

that's it.

That's it.

You want some fries with that?

Wait a minute.

We got to read this

a special medical alert here, right?

That's right.

Do we have music?

Do you want

Dennis Peters

more music?

I mean, it's a

Darren Johnson

medical thing.

Perfect.

That was perfect.

Dennis Peters

Yeah, go for it.

All right,

Darren Johnson

ladies and gentlemen,

Dennis Peters

we

Shelley Johnson

have

Darren Johnson

a special medical alert here.

Not that we need to give John any more ammo,

Shelley Johnson

but you can let John

Darren Johnson

know that there is some validity to the pickle juice theory.

It has been used in

Dennis Peters

athletics

Darren Johnson

for quite some time.

Dennis Peters

I think there is a

Darren Johnson

back order on it right now, maybe next year at the Bell and Run.

Rollin'

Dennis Peters
