Coming to Northeast Wisconsin live from the Civic Media Studios, this is Mino and the Mayor.
And here are your hosts.
John Minow, and Jim Schmidt.
All right, good morning,
everybody.
Back by popular demand, it's Jim Schmidt and Connie Feldman.
Connie and the mayor this morning.
Thank you for coming back.
Oh, it's great to be here.
We had so much fun last week, Jim.
And we got some nice
texts on you, too.
So welcome.
This is going
to be a
fun day today.
And we're starting off with great weather, right?
Green Bay, 56, Appleton 52, and Oshkosh 52.
Oh, pretty close.
Do you see the high today?
70 something?
No, 82.
Are you kidding me?
Oh, we got to get out of here and go play.
Well, no,
no, we're gonna, we got an exit plan coming up.
Did you see what you read?
This is today is leave the office early day.
So Todd was about 630.
What time we leave in 630 quarter to 7?
Well,
we'll
be out of here.
It's
pretty much when the show
wraps up
anyway.
Most
morning.
It's going to be that kind of a Monday morning.
It
might
be.
I'm sorry.
But this, this weather, like we're there.
Yeah.
What a gorgeous weekend it was out.
Yep, I'm just digging this.
Are you a gardener?
Well, I'm a wannabe gardener.
Todd, you're a gardener.
Yeah.
My wife's a big gardener.
Yeah.
And our neighbors are.
And you know what I think is cool about gardening is even though what somebody could afford to maybe get a gardener, you'd like to do it yourself.
Oh, I do love
it.
That is a do it yourself
thing.
I love being out there.
Yeah.
Hired out, but she
didn't see how
he started that
You know my challenge this year's I'm trying to get our grass to grow.
I mean, it's you know, we have clay Green Bay's got a lot of clay and I'm bound to determine I've been out there every day, you know, I'm overseeding and watering and sprouting and
Now that I do I would admit I do find that out but it is
Those guys know what they're doing and you've got to, it's a process.
It's not like one
thing.
So maybe if you want to go to Liza or somebody and just ask them, how do I get a putting green?
Yeah, but
it takes a while.
But that garden, I really think that's an interesting thing because if you have the resources, you don't really wash your own windows and you don't really clean your house.
Well,
I don't know about you, Jim.
No, I want to make a point here
because
People can afford to get a somebody do their their whatever Draniums or whatever you guys put in there and they and they don't and the reason we were in Miami And we took one of those tours.
I like looking at houses.
Yeah,
so we took a house tour and this guy is out there working and he is on it just in his garden this trim and trees and It wasn't a gardener.
I mean it was yeah, and he is the guy who is the president.
He's got a
unbelievably home right in the peninsula, the company that makes Viagra.
So he made a fortune,
an absolute fortune.
And there's a lot of entertainers along there too.
Now, maybe they farm it out, but not farm it out, but they have people do it.
But I just am amazed by how many people, even our neighborhood, you drive around our neighborhood, there's just a lot of neighbors working in
And they love
it.
We bought our house.
The woman who lived there before us was a premier gardener.
All I heard of was, oh, wow, Linda was out there all the time in the garden.
And she had the entire gardens around her house all mapped out.
She gave me the grid to find out this plant is here.
And I've tried to keep up with it.
I really have.
You might have to bring her
back.
Do you feel like you're disappointing the neighbors?
I do.
I do.
I felt all the pressure.
Oh, and Linda was
here.
Yeah, I'm not the one out there.
She was out there all day, every day I heard, you know.
I was out there this morning.
This morning before.
Yeah, it's so nice
out.
And she,
yeah.
I spent some time.
I had to redo some porch steps and do some painting in my house.
I was out there.
Now.
Jim, you know this, Connie, you probably don't.
But I really don't know my neighbors, right?
I know, I know one person who lives next to me two lots over.
I know her name is Holly.
Other than that, I don't know.
And that
I really like it
that
way.
So yeah, Todd is not
the president of Neighborhood
Watch.
No, no,
don't even let people load on the sidewalk or something when I'm driving by.
I look the other way like I'm, you know, looking for something in the trees.
But so I'm out there and I'm doing some work.
Two people came up.
to talk to me, two neighbors, right?
But it was because they had gossip about somebody down the street,
right?
Oh, did you hear about so and so and such and
such?
His car was there, too.
Yeah, right.
Yeah.
Well, they came in and they cleared the house out.
Okay, great.
Thanks.
Bye.
You know,
so I was out there trying to enjoy the weather and people were bothering me.
Oh,
yeah.
Do you have
a
front porch?
I do.
Okay.
And that, that's the way.
A lot of old homes.
I mean, I will you're gonna come over on the 17th where I remember a party big
month is playing right
across the street
Oh,
and Jim arts is coming over.
Yeah.
Oh, you're on vacation that week.
Yeah, I'll be gone.
Yeah Anyway, we have a lot of front porches and that's I think how people go.
Yeah, we're all over neighborhoods We've had someone on here from the Green Bay neighborhood association.
There's like 40 different neighborhoods in in Green Bay and
You know, if people get to know each other and they have like a block party, like in the
old days
or just a neighborhood, you know, the city will pay for, well, not alcohol, but we would pay for like the food,
the
ones, that kind of stuff.
I don't know what the limit is on that.
Neighbors knowing each other reduces crime.
And
that's
the reason we do it, but we also want them to know each other.
Well, you know what?
So you're not
going to be, you're not going to run for city council.
Absolutely not.
He's the only boy who's going to get his hollies.
I told this
story and I don't mean to take time away from you, Connie, but when I lived in my other house in Oshkosh, I had a very old house and it was a doctor's house.
So the doors automatically locked.
You always had to have your keys with you.
Okay.
Well, I left and forgot my keys.
So I had to get in the house.
There was this box on the door.
from where the chemist or the pharmacy would drop off drugs
and the
door automatically locks and then you can open it on the inside.
And then when that closes, that locks all the, you know, the whole thing.
So I thought the only, I'm not breaking these old windows.
I'm just not going to do it.
I'm going to bust open this box.
The only thing
I,
the only
thing I really
had in my garage that I could use was an axe.
So I'm out there prying away.
Now I'd lived in the house for like three years at this point.
But you wonder why the neighbors don't want to talk to
them.
So I'm sitting there, apparently my neighbors who don't know who I am saw me breaking into the house because all of a sudden I heard, sir, drop the weapon.
And
I turned around and there were three cops in my driveway
with their guns drawn.
Now, those are
good neighbors.
It was my
neighbor Kitty Corner for me
who had never
met me before.
Who called the cops?
Okay.
Can you blame her?
You know a guy that looks like you with an axe getting in a house?
That's okay, Jim.
You know what?
Do you know in our neighborhood?
I know everyone's dogs.
Yes.
I know their dogs by name.
Great way to
meet neighbors.
Then I have to try and remember what's the dog's parents name?
Yeah, but they know my dog by name too.
I don't know that they know who I am.
That's cool walking your dog.
You know our neighbors, well we get along with our neighbors pretty well, but it
I think that's kind of important, but you know, Todd, you're a little bit of a... Enhaxman.
Bubble?
No, no, bubble or recluse, whatever.
I'm not a recluse.
I just... I
don't like people.
Right.
I have said that.
Anyway, that yesterday, I just couldn't believe all the people that were working outside.
We're going to get to this a little bit later, but also yesterday, breakfast on the farm.
A lot.
Oh, what a beautiful day for
it.
Yeah, 6,000 people.
Wow.
You know what I mean?
In four hours.
About that far?
Well, they
started a little bit early, like at 7.30.
But it's really four hours to get all, and then one of our, you know, they make those eggs and those huge, they look like satellite dishes, you know, and they're scraping that.
And one of them went down.
Oh no.
Think about that.
Think if you have four of those and one went down.
Like if you had a machine,
that was
a capacity, and one went down.
So.
Just that wasn't bad, but a little weight on the eggs.
And they're stirring them with dust pans.
You know,
that's anyway, we'll get to that because that was pretty cool.
I'm so glad they had a great turnout.
That's such an important event.
Yeah.
And, you know, we were talking to, you know, there's four age kids and stuff there, but I was with, is it Miss Dairyland?
Is that it?
Yeah, Miss Dairyland.
Alice in
Dairyland.
So I was with her.
And she still says she gets that question that
from adults too.
I was like, oh, those kids, adults, that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
She still
doesn't.
Okay, Connie.
Yes.
And the other.
She really enjoys talking to schools because she talks about, especially those of us who live in the hood, they maybe don't have that connection to farms.
So
it's important.
Well, we were talking about that last week, how important it is to know where the food comes from.
And this is such a great opportunity.
I was reading about that farm has been in business since the 1800s in Wisconsin.
And that's how long local farms go back in this community.
So to get out there and check out everything they do and see it up close and where chocolate milk really does come
from.
So
I think we
have, we're gonna get to that.
We have some audio that I took.
I'm not, you know, Mr. Interview, you know that I, but I took, I gave it.
I don't know.
Wish I would have known that before we hired you.
I know.
I'll tell you something I did Friday.
Friday night there was an event at the Mulva Center.
And we've had them on here and they want to come back and they listen to our show.
That is the cultural center to hear.
beautiful building.
Yes.
Um, have you been there?
I have not yet.
But you've been by there.
Everybody knows where it is.
Yeah.
And we're, they were talking about that.
Um, I think it's too, it's a little intimidating.
Like maybe I don't, they just aren't getting the public to come in like they had hoped.
So
we really helpful with
that.
I, I, we're trying to figure that out.
Is it, it is, it's, it's, you know,
It's a big building.
Are you not highbrow enough?
Well, I know.
I didn't want it to be that.
That's not why they built it.
But I wonder if
people think
that.
I
wonder if people think it's
too highbrow for me,
you
know?
And I think, but if you look at the events they've got going
on,
it's for everybody.
It's totally for everybody.
Well, Jim goes there, you know.
You know, he hires out his garden.
I don't know.
I'm not left with that.
But they're really trying to do that.
And the director,
we should help him out.
Yeah.
And he's going to come on here.
We've had the marketing.
I forgot her name twice, but he wants to come on here.
That's one of his, I don't know if they say it's a challenge, but they want to get more people there,
and I don't
blame
them.
Well, when we talk about everything there is to do in Northeast Wisconsin, it's not just about football, it's not just about cheese.
That's one of the things.
We have some real cultural gems in this area, and we need to promote that a little bit more.
People need to be aware of it.
That
is our job.
Anyway, so that was that was a cool event but I just want to tell you why I was there It was private event because you can rent it out too.
I was rented out by Berkstrom Yeah, they need to become a sponsor of ours.
They're great people.
Yeah, and of course they have so they brought in their You know the Porsches the Mercedes they had like 30 cars parked up there in the building and on the terrace neat I think the cheapest car there was 67,000 but they went up from there and it was just kind of an open house
And I talked to a friend of mine, and he said, yeah, I'm going to buy one of these.
Like, wow.
So anyway, it was a very cool event.
But it was nice to get in there and see that.
You can use it for things like that.
But like Todd said, it's mostly
for like a library.
It's like, come on, use this place.
There's movies, there's so much to do there.
So anyway, yeah, we gotta get them back on here
though.
Got a couple of texts coming in this morning.
Vicki says, good morning everybody.
Terry says, enjoy the wildfire smoke.
Coming
this way.
Well he
asks how Mino's doing.
And I spoke with Mino on Friday.
He's doing relatively well, I think.
Gave him the weekend to kind of rest up.
I'll call him and see how he's doing today.
Hopefully he'll be back on Thursday.
And then Brian said so.
Did she answer your question about the chocolate milk,
Jim?
He digs pretty deep.
What did she say?
You know, about the chocolate milk, does it come from Broncos?
He thinks I asked the question.
I'm sure you did.
Good morning, Vicky.
But her reign is kind of ending in, what, six weeks or so?
But oh my god, what they do.
get her on here too.
The traveling they do, the schools they go to, the
events
they do, you know, a lot of them.
Anyway, that was a lot of fun.
So let's, well, today we got a lot to do today, but let's talk about what Monday is, Connie.
You want to just mention, we got one minute here.
We'll just start with rotisserie.
Rotisserie
chicken
day.
Okay, so do you cook on a rotisserie?
I don't, but I will always get the rotisserie chicken.
at the store, and you can make, you know, five meals out of that.
Really?
I'll eat the whole thing in one
second.
I know,
on the way home.
That's right.
That's right.
You're right.
I'll be right back.
This is Connie the Mayor.
And
later on this morning, your chance to win with Scotty Summer, be listening in in the text-to-win contest that's coming up this morning after seven o'clock with Mino and the Mayor.

It's a pretty music, Todd.
It always
is.
Connie Feldman and Jim Schmidt.
Connie's in.
What I like
about having Connie here is we dance.
You and John never
dance,
which thank
the Lord for that.
But we jam out.
She does.
Got some good tunes going.
You've got great energy.
So those of you who don't know the name, you would know her face, she anchored the news.
Was it Fox 11 when you were there?
Or was it just Channel 11?
No, it was Fox 11.
Shortly after I got there, it was NBC when I first started.
All right.
Way back when.
All right.
And then you decided to take a break and,
you
know, here you are.
Isn't that nice?
And then I was at five for a few years after getting back into TV.
But yeah, the bulk of my career was at Fox 11.
Isn't radio like chill?
I love radio.
You can wear your sweatshirt.
Because
we're on but that, you know.
I come in and a ball cap, you know.
you know, sweatshirt, t-shirt, you know, tennis shoes.
It is.
It's
great.
And she is, she's, yes, tennis shoes.
She's sporting
a pair of
Chuck Taylor's.
Did you see
that?
Is he?
She
is.
All right.
Chuck
Taylor's.
So yeah, that's it.
All right.
So today, rotisserie chicken day.
So this is the thing that people stand in line for at Costco, right?
When they're out of chicken and then
they come in
at 4.95 or 5.95.
But you guys, that's, that's not good.
What?
It's okay.
Who cares?
Do not say it's not, it tastes great.
Are you kidding?
Yeah, but still.
Okay, you're not supposed to eat.
Don't make a diet of those.
That's a treat.
It's like ice cream.
Yeah, whatever.
Okay.
I'm gonna eat whatever I want to eat.
Okay, here we go.
Rocky Road Day.
So that's the ice cream,
right?
Yeah, not my favorite.
Not my
favorite
either.
And why not yours?
Well, doesn't it have marshmallows in it?
I can't deal with marshmallows.
There's too much stuff, right?
Yeah, they tried too hard.
Yeah.
I like simple plain flavors of ice cream.
See, I can't mix.
I love
Fruit ice cream, and I love chocolate ice cream, but I can't mix like cherry chocolate.
Nope.
No, you don't make fruit and chocolate.
I can't do it
Yeah, like 33 flavors their number one seller
Vanilla, well, that's see and I'm that's me.
That's boring though jam
Nah, I'm a boring guy.
Well, but I I
will say would when you
over for my party will have I'll have different ice creams, but I have lots of toppings.
Oh see that
There you got it, but
I don't put them on but there's like nuts and chocolate and cherry They got cherry that squeezed cherry stuff and sometimes it the right season all the right cherries and you can put those in too.
So
anyway,
hot caramel
Will
there be just asking will there be cloth linens at the party?
Okay, this I don't want to listen you hear this last time you guys but We don't use we use cloth for everything and even I was just in the kitchen and making something and I just
opened up the drawer and took out a cloth, and I could have used paper, but it's just something that you do.
You know, there's some people that, I don't know, you just do certain things a certain way and it's hard to switch over.
We use cloth.
Let's see.
All
the time.
Up at the cabin all the time.
Love it.
It's reusable.
It is.
Yeah.
And yeah.
Are yours?
embroidered with...
Monogrammed?
Are they
monogrammed?
They are not monogrammed.
It's not that expensive.
But my mother made them.
It's
not as expensive as you think.
And yeah, my mother made them and I remember as a kid learning how to iron.
Cloth napkins.
What you
can do is cut back on some of the gardening money and
get
them
embroidered.
And lawn
care.
I will hand embroider them myself.
That I could do.
All right, so hey, we got a text in.
This is interesting.
7.30 yesterday morning, we're talking about what a great time to get out and work in your neighbor.
Okay, 7.30 yesterday morning, my neighbor was cutting his lawn.
I thought that was a little too early.
Am I right?
Probably talk to him today.
Well, here's the deal.
I think it is seven o'clock the noise ordinance so I think he was okay we used to get a lot of complaints about leaf blowers because and now there's communities banning leaf blowers because it's so damn loud
real yeah mm-hmm well see one of my fondest memories growing up every Saturday morning my dad was mowing the lawn that's how I would wake up every Saturday morning fresh cut grass yeah and here in dad
mown the lawn right so he did it early i don't know if it was that early
but well there's a noise ordinance and i i know it starts at 10 at night but i think it goes to six or seven so i just remember it's got to be seven i think it's seven probably because Notre Dame where my kids went to school were you know heavy on the academics but they were going to a contest for their band so they were
playing at six in the morning, outside, marching band.
And some neighbor called and put the smack
down on him.
Let me come on there.
High school
kids practicing for this tournament.
And anyway, so I think it is seven o'clock.
You know, I was telling you, we... So anyway, just to our
call, I just want to
say,
so 730 is legit.
Yeah, probably.
Maybe you got to get up a little
earlier.
I played in this jazz band, this New Orleans style jazz band, and we were on a morning show.
And we were playing in some local park, but you know, it was like 6 30.
Yeah, and we're you know busting out Saints go marching.
Oh, yeah We got a call we got a call
and But did the cops let you play or did they put the smack down on you?
No, they let us
play.
I see that we should have done that Set by that right what else we got going on today Rocky Road now here's a cool day I love my dentist day and I saw that yesterday when Todd sent it and I I don't have my dentists
I have my doctor's home phone.
Why don't I have my dentist's home phone to call him?
So I'm gonna try him a little bit later.
You know, maybe it's seven, seven, 30, but I wonder if those guys celebrate that, if they get gifts.
Is this a thing?
Did you ever hear of this
before?
I have not heard of that.
I do love my dentist though.
I know him very well.
So
if you knew it was, I love my dentist a, would you do something?
Well, I have not done anything.
We
just
don't know, but would you?
I don't want you to send him a card or drop off like some cookies.
I would.
I think I would.
I wouldn't die.
I don't know.
Cookies, that's not good
for your teeth.
Drop
something
else off.
I'd probably drop off a rotisserie chicken.
That's what I went to.
He'd never forget me then.
And then the day that we are
celebrating, Connie.
Yeah.
We got about leave the office early day.
So we're out of here in, like, what, 20 minutes?
Whatever.
Yeah, as
soon as Todd goes
to the bathroom, we're gone.
We're gone.
Fishing and boating week That's really kicking off and we there you go.
This
is
New Orleans jazz Yeah, but that fishing and boating week we've had people on here I'm gonna talk about this again the safety so many of those actions are preventable So we're gonna talk about that life preserver life preserver life preserver should see
the text that came in
Jim didn't
you make your fortune from the paper industry
yet using cloth come on Jim jobs That is funny and
I didn't read that because it is kind of true.
All right.
Exactly.
We'll be right back, honey in the mirror.
After seven o'clock is the Scotty Summer Text to win statewide contests.
Your chance to win a pair of Milwaukee Brewers club level tickets or $100 cash.
Also puts you into a drawing for a great Wisconsin getaway to the Wisconsin Dells area or Door County.
That's coming up this morning after seven o'clock.
If you haven't done so already download that Civic Media app, get ready for it.
You'll choose WGVW or WISS for a shot to play along and win.
And of course,
by playing along, not only can you win, but you help Jim and John as well by being one of the top morning shows in the company
to
get texts.
So
that's coming up
this morning after seven o'clock with Connie and the mayor
this morning.
Thank you, Todd.
Yes.
We have like 21 stations, right?
And we compete.
John and I are the best, but we compete on these contests.
So we need our work.
We're second fast.
We went to this awards ceremony.
What's the title of it?
It was got some
broadcasters
association.
We went down there, tons of people and we took second twice.
Well, WBA is a big deal.
It
is a big
deal.
Well, that's fine.
I won't spend the money to put your stuff in.
No, we
gotta
win though.
Johnny and I are a little competitive.
Well, you shouldn't be, yeah.
Anyway, get behind them.
At seven o'clock when we do this, Scotty Summer, you're gonna give the keyword away,
so we'll
just hold on to
that.
Hey, so we talked a lot about kind of what was going on, but at break, we talked about fishing and boating week,
which is this
week
to kind of get out.
That's your thing.
It is, absolutely.
Fishing and boating, and you don't fish, you said.
No, it's boring, I hate
it.
I'm
there for like, let's go.
Oh, no, no.
That's my passion, get out there.
I mean, even if you're having a catch in anything, to be out on the water.
Man,
when I was done being mayor, I went and saw a shrink or whatever, what are they called?
Male career counselors.
And the guy's like, you gotta find a hobby.
You gotta
find something to do, you know?
Cause that's all you did.
I'm like, yeah.
He did a lot of fishing.
I said, no, I hate fishing.
I said, it's just boring.
It's sitting a boat.
And I've gone before, my brother's a big, big fisherman.
And he's retired.
He said, look, let's go on.
golf, you know, I told you that I'd throw my clubs.
I have no patience for that.
Um, anyway, cause Connie's new, you guys and you listeners, you're gonna hear this, but I'll make this really quick.
They go through all this, they ask you all these questions and what do you like to do?
And you know, I like people and you like to give people things.
And, um, so, okay, well, let me do a little work on this.
And so I went back there and he goes, I think I got it.
Yeah.
I'm like, cool.
Yeah.
He goes, I think you should make candles.
Oh,
because I have a place to do it in my house and I like giving stuff away and he'd like thought I was a little creative.
But wait, needless to say, it was the last time I saw him.
But that is a cool little hobby.
You know what?
It's interesting.
So it's interesting that you like parties, you like to throw parties, you like linens, you know, and you like barbershop, you like.
Yeah.
But you don't like making candles.
I would think that would go hand in hand.
Yeah, maybe you're in the wrong field.
That's cost me 250 bucks to hear that.
And it does make sense.
It is that you have the area to do it, all this other stuff.
Candle making is fun to make candles.
It
is.
And there's some cool things you can put scent in there
and, you
know, yeah.
You know what's fun?
It's watching.
If you've never seen a little kid catch the first fish.
Oh, man.
I saw that the other week in our cabin and cousin was up.
He caught his first fish, and the rest of the day, little kids running around saying, I caught my own dinner.
I caught my own dinner.
So we filleted up for him and said, all right, here you go.
Awesome.
He hated
it.
He hated it?
Yeah.
What kind of fish do you catch up at your place?
Oh, everything.
Mainly bass and crappie, if you perch.
But there's some monster musky in that lake, and I'm
after it.
I would take my kids, would they like put the fish in there?
you know, and then they give them the rod and reel
so
that
they knew it.
So they learned the truth challenge of the
sport.
They learned it.
The fish is already
attached to the line.
Don't look, look over there,
kid.
Anyway, that's there where we didn't grow up fishing in my house.
See, and maybe that's it.
I grew up with my dad fishing and those are some really great memories.
No, we sang barbershop music, so.
Well, I sang barbershop.
Barbershop.
You think you were in band too?
Yeah, we can do that.
All right.
Sweet Adalines.
What else do we have going on?
We got some birthdays.
I told you this is, well, I have a lot of weaknesses in this show,
but this is really
a big one of them.
Joy
Coy.
Joe Coy.
Joe.
Comedian.
Funny, funny guy, right?
Really?
I knew he was a comedian.
I'm not familiar
with it.
He did one of the big award shows this last year,
and there
was a lot of...
Bad things said about him, because some writer strikes.
I'm not sure exactly what happened, but he is a funny guy.
Lisa Hale actually went to see him a couple of weeks ago.
Oh, really?
Was
he?
Yeah.
He
was in the air.
I think he was in Milwaukee or maybe he was up here.
I can't remember.
Dana Carvey,
you got to know him.
Absolutely.
Yeah, that guy, George Bush.
Yeah, that guy.
The church lady.
Yep.
Oh my gosh.
He's 70.
He's 70 years old.
Good mat special.
Good mat special.
Oh, he was hilarious.
Is he still
working?
He
is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Man, we should get him here, because, you know, we get him here on the way up and the way down, so.
I think he's actually doing a podcast with Kevin Nieland, and they talk
about all the
stuff that went on at Saturday Night Live behind the scenes.
I think it's Kevin Nieland.
Well, and he was Garth, wasn't
he?
Yeah, he
was.
Wayne's World?
Wayne's World.
That's right.
He was Garth.
Excellent.
He did a great Jimmy Stewart is what
he did.
Oh, listen to you.
I told him he could.
You know how you can type in a celebrity and then they will do a birthday wish for you.
Like Brett Favre and, you know, cost money, tell them they like to fish or they like to golf and they're married to so and so or they're dating.
And then they come and they do these unbelievable, like you'd think they were hanging out for a couple of years.
It's like, you know, we got one for my nephew from Brett Favre.
And they never met and he would think they are besties.
I mean, he really does a good job.
I don't know if he still does that, but I told Todd, Jimmy Stewart, you know, he's long gone.
I said, just do it.
You know, he sounds, make it Jimmy Stewart.
Can you imagine giving
that to your mom?
The Jimmy
Stewart, you
know.
I do a lot of stuff around the holidays, commercials and stuff like that.
Oh, that's neat.
I want a birthday wish
from Melissa Atheridge.
All
right, we'll
get that done.
Yeah, chop that up.
Thanks.
I can't tell you how many people could not believe that you did not know who Melissa Atheridge
was last
because Melissa Atheridge had a birthday and you didn't know
who she was
when
you said it now
Oh, yeah,
yeah, okay, that's right.
That's right.
I got it
All
right another birthday Wayne Brady Wayne Brady whose line is it anyway and now the host of let's make
it let's make a deal and
yeah
Wayne Brady the name clicked.
He was I saw him in Hamilton.
Was he?
Oh, yeah, he was great.
Yeah, it was great.
It was when the Chicago kids saw him.
He was great and he signed a what a poster or something for them.
So yeah, he's great.
And he's he's
weird.
Though
his sex identity is weird.
Like he calls himself.
Anyway, his what identities were his sex identity is is Wayne Brady.
And he's pansexual.
That's what it is.
You'll hear that a lot.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's me
all right All
right on to Zachary Quinto Well, I think it's pronounced Quinto.
He is an actor.
He played the young Spock in the
Star Wars.
Okay.
All right.
I Didn't know who you all
right.
Well, happy birthday young Spock
All right, so here we go, another Tex.
I feel a little picked on today.
Maybe the mayor should make and give away.
No, that's funny.
All right.
Well, my nose is not here.
Somebody's got to step up.
I
do
like to grill.
Hey, I made yesterday.
I like to cook, but it's hot out and you kind of want something more like a cold salad or something.
Get this.
Todd, you'll like this.
I'll bring some.
I don't have any more left.
I made a Mexican shrimp salad.
And so I made the shrimp course.
And then I made some Donovan, some pasta with presto.
Anyway, but you take the shrimp and you, it's awesome.
You put in some cucumbers, some jalapeno, tomatoes.
And this is where I kind of blew it, red onions, you know, diced cucumbers.
And you mix this all together with olive oil, you put the shrimp in there.
And you serve it cold.
And it's really, really good.
But I thought it needed a little something.
You always do.
I know, I do.
I never leave a recipe alone.
I
like the emerald
agasi,
where
he's
got
to do some bam in
there, you know?
Yeah, toss some burritos in there.
That's what you need in a Mexican salad.
Yeah, no, this was just a salad, the celery, the cucumbers.
So
where did you add to it?
Garlic and I took too much garlic too much.
I sliced it up and Probably should have made a little smaller pieces of garlic, but it then it was it was garlic from I think it's from Wayne it was
It was a little, you know, garlic can be a little stronger.
You're dependent on the batch.
And I think it was pretty strong.
So I sliced that up and put it in there
and I was like, eh.
But so if you smell it, I
brushed my teeth a bunch of times, I chewed gum this morning.
But I just,
if I, it's okay, you're just
sweating
it this
morning.
It's oozing from his pores.
But anyway, that, that Mexican shrimp cocktail is, is the bomb.
Got another text this morning, Jim, after seeing a few food trucks at Meat Fest, I'm thinking you should open a linen truck.
You can sell linens to people that are eating at the bear picnic tables.
I think that could work Sparky.
I
think that that we're gonna talk about that at the seven o'clock hour that Meat Fest that was a great event.
So we'll get to that just a second What else are you a cook Connie?
Yeah, I cook
do you grill I do so are you into them?
Hot dogs brats chicken.
What do you
make?
I make a little bit of everything But my husband does a lot better steaks than I do because I like them seared on the outside and then medium rare
and mine always get overcooked.
Oh, that's the worst
because you can't go backwards.
I know
it.
Yeah.
No, when you go, when you cross that line, say, say, with adding a little too much garlic
to your salad.
I make a mean burger though.
Do you?
A little onion soup mix in there.
Oh, yeah.
See, that's
awesome.
Oh, it's mellow.
I might get spent all day in the kitchen, so.
But that's the other thing he said.
I shouldn't talk about hobbies, you know, to this.
Well, there you go.
Career
counselor.
No, he, no, he, what did he say?
because I eat at that and I wake too much.
You know what I mean?
And I got to kind of watch mine.
But I look
good, don't I?
You look great.
Thank
you.
All right, that's good.
How much do I get for that, Todd?
No, I was talking about fishing.
See, you
do
love to fish.
But I...
Okay.
We are picking on you.
Well, we are.
I've been,
you know, we're
working on it.
Todd's down, what, 25, 30 pounds?
I think I'm going to eat.
So anyway, we a lot of work to
do.
I,
however, am not using any kind of help.
I'm just, you know, doing it on my own.
I'm not shooting up every week or whatever you have to do.
Is
it weekly?
You have to shoot up with
that stuff?
Shoot up.
I don't know.
I, you know, I don't qualify for it.
And, you know, who knows if, you know, I would love to get a shot.
Jim
should know.
Is it every week that you
shoot up?
Yeah, it is.
It's every
week.
And if you qualify, just you qualify.
Everybody qualifies.
You just, there's ways you can do that.
Wow, well, it was like 1500 bucks a week, and I'm like, I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to do it the old fashioned way.
Go to
the back of Jim's
crying,
he'll open up the truck, he'll
get you set up.
I can
get you set up for 200 a month.
Well, just put him in Todd's drug compartment at his old house.
Can you
put a needle in your body, can you do that?
Yes, that I can do.
Okay, some people get freaked out about that.
And then they're gonna go to a pill form of a Zempick.
Not as, I shouldn't say that, I talked to my doctor about it.
Because some people don't like their verse to the needles.
They just won't do
that.
The
other wife or their husband put it in for
them.
Well, you know, but also the side effects of that can be can be really bad.
Some digestive issues and, you know, it's
you.
Yeah, you forget stuff.
No, I'm not forgetting stuff.
I don't.
I don't.
They give it
as they have to with every medication.
They give you the the downside.
Yeah.
But none zero none none of that stuff happened to me.
Wow.
Well, good.
Good for you.
Anyway.
Yeah.
And I like, I like the doctor.
Yeah.
I got to the point where I will try anything to be
like, I want to
be
it.
Like I belong at like 170.
And what are you now?
182.
Well,
it's not far off,
but I was two.
We were all over 200.
Well,
where were you at?
Was it 220 something?
I got.
I brought
that book with me.
I'm going to try and find that because we weighed ourselves in here.
We had a scale and everything.
John and Todd and I, and we would go on once a week and then the scale, I don't think the scale was working right because it kept going up and we just thought what the hell with it.
So we took a scale out.
So we don't have a scale in here anymore, but I got to find that because there was a high point in.
We've got pictures to prove it, too, right, Todd?
Oh, absolutely.
Let me
show you a picture of Jim.
Oh, wow.
He's got laterhosen on.
Laterhosen?
I did.
There was a special pouch.
That's all I can say.
Oh, geez.
To get the pouch.
I was
talking about my gut.
Same
thing.
So that rotisserie chicken.
Pouch hasn't
changed.
All right.
We're going to be right back.
It's Connie in the mirror.

Welcome back everybody.
Connie the mayor, Johnny's still out and we are gonna get through today with some great guests coming up.
Did you see the lineup
here?
I did, I did.
I'm not too sure about Tarle Knight.
He runs the Tarleton, he's been on here before.
Sometimes those guys who work in the evenings aren't morning people.
And this is pretty early in the
morning.
It is, so I've invited him to come on but if he doesn't come on at seven,
Since you're kind of new to this whole gig, you know, and with Civic Media, we just, I thought I'd put a little quiz together for you.
Oh boy, oh boy.
Little
Wisconsin trivia, Northeast Wisconsin, you know, and, you know, like I told you, Oldest City.
Well, I'm in Northeast Wisconsin.
I know who you are, that's right.
I should be, I should
be old to nail this.
So, I know you, yeah, I know, no, Johnny didn't.
Yeah, you passed the drug test, didn't you?
Yeah, okay, so you're
good, we can get, we can bring you on.
There's a drug test?
Todd got exempt because he's the boss.
But anyway, that's, like, what's hazelnut coffee, what'd you get?
Todd just brought her coffee, never brings me coffee.
I've only been here two years.
You're the one who gets coffee for everyone, fancy coffee next door, and you come in except Todd and I have never gotten
any.
She mentioned that to me right away
this morning.
For my guests.
Yeah,
I do.
And sometimes I tape that in the afternoon too.
And a lot of people, I'm amazed how many people want coffee in the afternoon.
Cool, iced coffee.
Yeah, because I've got for my show, which is on Sundays.
We'll talk about that later.
But I interviewed the mayor of DPR and the engineer from the county on the southern bridge.
Oh, yes.
You know, after you talked about that.
183 million dollars.
Yeah.
And I think everybody's heard about it, but nobody
knows about
it.
You know what I mean?
You're right.
When we were talking last week, I, you know... And it's only 50 years in the making,
actually 60.
And I'm going to write about that too, but...
There's things in government that take that long.
I'm not kidding you.
You know, that's too long.
Well, it's fascinating, though.
I would love to pick your brain about just kind of the inner workings of government that the average person doesn't see.
Yeah, that's taken a long time.
It's kind of akin to the coal piles.
Yeah.
That's been worked on all of 50, probably more than that, closer to 60 years, if I think about it, because I know Romy Denison worked on that.
And that's got to happen.
I think the deadline on the coal piles is tomorrow.
And this has got to get
done.
It's been extended.
Yeah.
You know, my personal opinion, I, you know, I don't want to, but we have such a beautiful waterfront opportunity in our city.
It just, it's a- Look what Oshkosh has done with the
waterfront and just even smaller, you know, Oshkosh is a big city.
And that took some time.
It did.
I mean, it was not always nice and they're still working on parts of it, but- It's your boy can had coal piles, you know, and then that's where the Blue Harbor is.
Yep.
But like you said, that is not
inexpensive to do.
Now they had a little bit of an advantage because the people using the coal didn't want the coal anymore.
We still have people who rely on coal and
our coal
comes in and we ship it down to our, actually our listening area.
A lot of that goes to Appleton, Oshkosh.
So we need coal.
There's people that, oh no, coal's gonna be a thing in the past.
It's still the cheapest form of energy for some of these
people.
And Green Bay is a port city.
Not taking away from that, but there has to be another solution.
Right.
And I agree we're a port city and I think you have to weigh that.
And that's one of the
issues is
that let's use this new land that we got from WPS because they decommissioned their... So let's use this for port.
And the city's like, wait a minute, we've been working on this.
Let's use this to store coal.
And C. Rice said, let's use that
to store coal.
So
that's the, I think that's the rub.
And I haven't been in it for a couple of years, but I had the mayor in here and offered.
to sort of Paul too.
We both wrote a letter to the county board saying, hey, look at guys.
Because that opportunity for the city, the city is doing well, but nothing like land on the waterfront
to
really up our game.
I mean,
you're talking
housing, maybe $200 million of development.
And look where we are in, you know, in the state of Wisconsin, right on the Bay of Green Bay.
To me, it's huge.
It's one of the things that brought me to this area.
It is.
And that could be...
I know you're just talking to your friend again in San Diego, but they have that whole seaport
village down
there.
And that's just, you know, I don't know that we're going to have something like that with the docs and all the restaurants.
I mean, that's San Diego, but there's a lot we could do with that land.
And I don't know from, like I said, housing, retail.
I wonder how long coal piles would last in San Diego.
See, right?
They won't even let them
in.
I mean,
it's, but so that, that'd be interesting.
We'll talk about that tomorrow because tomorrow's the deadline on that.
So, yeah.
Yeah, I.
got an opinion on it.
I think everybody does and it sure seems to be leaning one way when I talk to people.
Even at that cocktail party that came up.
And it's funny because you serve an office for some time and I think people forgot it left.
Because what the hell is going on with those co-pods?
I don't know.
I want to move too.
But anyway, people are super nice but they sometimes call you about things that you're out of the loop.
Like if somebody's called you about...
The anchoring at Fox News, you would say, yeah, I don't know that
anymore.
And they do people all the time will talk to me about various on-air people.
And I'm like, well, you know, don't know.
Out of my realm.
All right.
So anyway, let's talk about today.
We've got a little trivia, so Todd and I are going to screen you a little bit to see if you are civic material.
I'll help you out.
Thank
you.
Anything to make you look.
And
Todd's thinking, why would we start now?
Because Johnny and I, we had a fog of mirror, and here we are.
OK, Bill Quackenbush.
Is that his name?
That is correct.
All right.
He is with the Ho-Chunk Nation, and he's the tribal historic provider.
preservation officer, and they have an event coming up.
And the whole chunk, people, when I don't, when I don't, they were here first.
So very cool
tribe.
And the history is fascinating.
It's unbelievable what these guys have done.
So that's going to be fun talking to him.
And of course, we got that Scotty Summer coming up.
So stick around for that.
That's coming.
And then, what is Corey?
Corey and
Amy are in from HME Home Medical today.
They want to talk about making your home more accessible as you age,
Jim,
right?
Gotta make those
accessibility things.
So I can wave to people when I take my little chair
upstairs?
That's
right.
Ain't gonna happen.
That will not happen.
I was thinking last night is hauling my 10th load of laundry up two flights of stairs.
You know.
Ranch, ranch, ranch house.
Oh my gosh, I'm in the same boat.
I'm in the same
boat.
I got a lot of
steps.
Well, I do too, but I like it, you know.
It keeps you
young.
That's my theory
on that.
Does
it?
No, but it's just my theory.
I don't want to move.
All right, we're going to be right back.
This is Connie Thelman and Jim Schmidt.
Connie in the mirror.
We'll be right back.
