And here are your hosts John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

Good

John Maino

morning.

Happy Wednesday to you.

A little chilly out there compared to yesterday.

A little different.

What did you say about your friends up in Marinette?

John Maino

No.

Superior.

Oh, superior.

82

John Maino

degrees yesterday.

42 right now.

50 degree drop overnight.

Wow.

Yeah.

John Maino

Yeah.

Have you ever spent any time in that area up there, though?

No, I just, no, I haven't.

It's bizarre.

I mean, like I

John Maino

told you, I'm so old, I specifically remember, I know that I've told you a million times, but I remember watching the weather forecast out of Duluth, and I'm talking like Northern Wisconsin, Northwestern Wisconsin, that whole little area

Kathryn Lake

up there,

John Maino

okay, where you got Lake Superior and you got Canada and you got whatever.

And I remember that night when they said they've lost contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald.

And I'll never forget that was this crazy scary of a night.

You know, it's it was one of those nights when the the telephone what it rains and then it freezes right away.

So and then the wind was like 60 or 70 miles an hour.

So then you hear all you hear is the ice breaking on the wires all night long.

It's cool.

It was one of those kind of things.

So but yeah, they dropped 50 degrees overnight.

But I went for a walk yesterday, Todd.

That was a nice nice job.

I was

John Maino

going to do I was going to do 20 minutes.

That's like, no, I'm doing a half an hour.

And I got half, I got half out.

It's like, it's too nice.

It's,

it's- And you were gonna go, we talked about the yesterday morning after the show, you were gonna go to a movie and I'm like, dude, you can't do that today.

You're right, convince me to not do it.

Yeah, today you can

John Maino

go, but- Well, not now, it's full price.

Well, that's

right, it's full price.

But like somebody said yesterday, senior citizen.

That's right.

Discount.

John Maino

Is that every day?

I don't know.

John Maino

I thought maybe that was just the Tuesday too,

no?

No, Tuesday's for

John Maino

everybody.

Oh, it is?

Yeah, Tuesday, it's discounted for everyone, but they've got a senior citizen, that's such a huge market.

Yeah, they've got to do something.

John Maino

You know what?

They wouldn't take that the green and gold because

it wasn't national.

They

John Maino

had a big sign

right on the door.

Hey,

John Maino

senior citizens.

So, you know,

not that any senior citizen would complain or demand or anything.

They're discount.

No, I don't know.

I'm going to be one of those that does.

I'm just going to take advantage of everything.

I think most of them actually up for some of it now.

John Maino

Oh, it's only 50.

It's unbelievable.

They're just their kids.

But I'll never forget the first.

I think it was in Chicago.

First time.

They said, um, are you AARP?

I go, what?

I go, uh, I'm feeling fine.

I said, why?

She said, well, you'd have whatever percent.

And it was like 30 bucks.

Oh, I. And I'm like, yes, I am.

I am not too proud to take advantage of a good deal.

John Maino

Hotels are the best to get those kind of deals.

Oh, no, you won't do it.

Wow.

I got discounts other places though,

right?

I mean, I, there's other discounts you can get.

You know what

John Maino

they say when you walk away from the desk?

Hey, that old guy

doesn't want his discount.

That

John Maino

guy, why wouldn't he take it?

I

don't know.

It's

John Maino

like 90, isn't it?

Told you I had to go get counseling over a drive turned 60.

I just could not believe that.

But anyway, still can.

But anyway, I'm getting around it.

But no, even those breakfasts and things, when you see that little menu, like now, it's only a couple of bucks.

I'll pay it.

I'll take it.

In a heartbeat.

In a

John Maino

heartbeat.

Absolutely.

But especially if it's a girl thinks, she'd be like, she thinks you're younger.

Yeah.

You know what I mean?

And I'm not going to say, well, look, you know what, she'd be like, what?

Yeah.

So that's what I think.

That's what my ego's telling me.

Maybe she would say, well, of course you are.

John Maino

Well, I will say one thing, though.

It's a little shocking.

Well, actually, I mean, this shouldn't be whatever, but it's a little offending when they go the other way.

Cause like the dinos stop down here.

It's right by my beverages and stuff.

And it's right by those wonderful, the nicest group of young women.

They're all from Nepal.

And they always have a smile on their face and they're always a good, you know what I mean?

Just the most polite people.

And, but they got that real, everybody must show an ID.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

And the girl they just, it's okay, sir.

You don't have to.

I

John Maino

was

offended by that.

Yeah.

We went, we went some place.

What was the epics?

I don't know.

We're at some place and the guys like the guy in front of me They said you know IDs and the guy goes really you're gonna card me guy goes we card everybody do there.

I'm next he goes, okay I

John Maino

went through the most humiliating experience humanly possible in regards to something like that that time, so I'm tainted

I'm scarred at

that.

What happened at

John Maino

the gas station, that other gas station, the shell station?

Yeah, what about Sunday morning?

This is a couple of years going to let you gas shell station leg

view.

OK, Sunday.

OK, this underscores Sunday morning.

It's going to buy some wine, sir.

It's not nine o'clock yet.

Yes, it is.

It's nine o'clock somewhere.

Late packer game, three o'clock packer

John Maino

game.

All

John Maino

right.

Good to have an Italian dinner.

OK, going by a bottle of wine from the gas station.

All right.

Yeah barefoot ladies.

I like barefoot ladies.

You were by that.

Oh Oh, yeah,

it's not barefoot way a ladies though.

It's um It's really

John Maino

bad for something something.

Yeah.

No,

John Maino

okay.

Um Do you drink communion wine?

It's about the same thing.

I just bless it Say it sounds that way.

Yeah.

So anyway, so you

John Maino

went there the girls

went

John Maino

there.

Yeah girl asked me for ID and I laugh

I'm like, okay, first time since 1979.

No, we have a new policy.

Everybody has his car.

I said, okay, I don't have my wallet.

I said, I live five minute walk away from here.

I can run and grab it if you want, but just what you're gonna have to.

I said, are you serious?

I can't buy this wine.

Just know I'm sorry.

Wow.

I had steam coming out of every.

I mean, that's part of my human body.

Like you're not 21 or what is it?

But

again,

I

have to tell you, having worked in that industry, if that's the rule,

I understand.

And, you know, they have a secret shopper come in and they don't check.

John Maino

I understand.

You lose your job.

I understand it.

I almost pulled out the don't, you know who I am, but I didn't.

I'm sure.

No, sir, I don't.

John Maino

Who?

I listen to Y100.

Yeah.

So anyway, all right.

Okay.

Well, so I go back later that day.

To buy some and different girl and I go, um She goes, okay, that's you know six dollars ever I go.

Um you forgetting something She's oh, I'm sorry.

What I go.

You're not gonna card me She's no okay the girl here earlier Said she cards everybody and I wasn't even able to buy my six dollar bottle of wine She says well that is true We do have a new station policy about that but to be honest with it anybody that has a lot of gray hair and looks older than my dad I let it slide

That's what I would think.

Wow.

And I had four people standing in line behind me.

And when I, they know who I was, cause they're from ledger and I turned and each one had their head down with their shoulders going up like this.

You want

to

John Maino

know what a walk of shame is?

That was a walk of

John Maino

shame.

I bet.

John Maino

That my friends was a walk of shame.

Yeah.

Pretty small bottle of wine, $6.

I was

John Maino

going to say those big ones.

Okay, whatever

John Maino

all right good morning fellas Chris Vinnie.

What's up Vinnie Vincent Joe?

Vicki good morning Vicki always says good

morning.

Hello Vicki,

John Maino

right?

I got another one here Terry says seniors get everyday matinee prices of seven dollars before four o'clock

now that There's a lot in that but that's that makes sense right before four because nobody goes till we go to movies at night, right?

Yeah, or maybe you guys go earlier

John Maino

There's something weird about going to a movie during the day

I know.

That's what I'm

saying.

I think that's a good.

So $7 every day.

That's a really good deal.

John Maino

Actually, a great deal.

I never knew that.

Neither.

John Maino

Is that Marcus?

I guess,

huh?

Yeah.

Well, they want to

John Maino

know.

Wow.

Boy, that's a business that certainly got monopolized or whatever you want to call it, huh?

But and everybody just threw in the towel on those guys because, oh, your big screen TVs and stuff.

There's nothing like the big screen, you know?

I mean, it's just.

It worked.

They made some changes.

They served beer.

They got better seating, but they survived.

I met that Marcus guy.

He was in my office one time.

Really?

The guy?

The guy.

Because they have obviously some people there.

But he wasn't like he came to see me.

He was in Green Bay for opening a new theater or something.

And then they just stopped in for 10 minutes.

Brian

John Maino

is setting us up.

Brian is setting us

up.

I was just going to say.

John Maino

He's setting us up.

He's setting us up.

Hope you guys have a spectacular day Brian

hashtag positive tax,

John Maino

right?

Yeah, we'll see watch watch all that one goes

14

John Maino

keep an

eye on that guy

John Maino

Terry says yes, it's Marcus cinemas Actually, you know where I'd love to go sometime to watch and he's had a couple But I think it was like Star Wars or I think is it going on right now Tarleton.

What's

John Maino

that hearing Star Wars?

Does that serious?

I don't know what's going on.

I don't

John Maino

see much advertising in him, except on like his marquees when I go by.

But I think that'd be fun to watch one of the kind of classic movies that you would have seen the first time like in that theater.

Yeah.

Like I said, I remember watching Hoosiers in the Meyer Theater.

Yeah.

John Maino

You know, 86, 87.

That was like the place to go.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah.

Like I said, I'm just not a movie guy, but yeah, that's seven dollars.

We'll do that, not this summer, but maybe in the winter we'll go after her.

Matt and I, we'll turn to the first movie start, like 10 in the morning.

I have

John Maino

no idea.

Matt and I, it'll be like after this, get some breakfast, then go to the movie, because I fall

John Maino

asleep.

I fall asleep.

Can you

John Maino

think of anything that would put you to sleep more?

The only other thing in the world, and Julie's gonna be mad when she hears this, she's, it's fine.

Take a woman.

And boy, this is sexist already.

Take a mom with their child and their spouse to a planetarium.

And have them sit through a whole planetary thing without toes enough.

No, the colossus star is aligned with the solier

yada yadas.

Planetary, when they start giving the talks, it's fun to walk around.

But when it's dark.

John Maino

And they got those little things.

That is such a comfortable

setting.

So I had to go to a lot of stuff.

John Maino

I'm thinking about something else.

Go ahead and then I'll

tell this story.

I went to the Wildlife Sanctuary Hazard fundraiser.

You know, I'm here.

You got to come here.

And one thing, I love my job, but you always sat in the front so you kind of can't leave.

This guy, they brought in some expert about birds.

And it just went on and it was like, it was almost Saturday night live.

It was, and then he would name these birds with the name was funny.

Kathryn Lake

That was the only

one that was, I'm telling you, you know, you've given plenty of speeches, but you know, 20 minutes, 25, maybe 10 minutes of Q and A, two hours, two hours of just another picture.

And this is the, oh no.

Have you ever had to stop

John Maino

anybody?

I had to stop a guy.

A speaker that I hate because it was that it was in Appleton.

It was at our big fundraiser We do our dining out thing.

Yeah, okay, and Jarts was gonna be our auctioneer Or was our oxygen but it was during the week.

So we told the guy hey 20 minutes max the speaker 20 minutes at 46 minutes Tim Cote who's come on this show.

Oh, yeah, he's just Johnny We got a wrap and cuz Jarts was like John.

Can you do the auction?

I gotta go cuz I gotta leave so we'd rep and the guy was so offended.

Yeah

I bet this guy would have been it just and I think some people are looking around thinking is everybody but You really when you set those times you almost got to stand in the back with a yellow or something of red I know because they lose track and they look they're excited.

They've worked a lot on the look and

John Maino

it's not an easy thing No to get up and speak like that.

It's not an easy

thing, but you get the other crowd You think the crowds is engaged, but yeah, that's those.

Yeah.

Yeah.

John Maino

Okay.

I'm gonna tell

you another Yeah, we were there

John Maino

together

Some guy who's really popular here in Green Bay had a 70th birthday party.

Were you there?

He had that comedian up?

John Maino

I was just thinking about this.

I was at his 50th.

And it's like that seems like you know the

old guy's ass seemed like it was fun.

John Maino

I was at his 50th anniversary.

Some people were wearing those shirts at his 70th.

From his 50th, okay.

the comedian that he and everybody was like, it was like uncomfortable.

You know what I mean?

Like sometimes it's kind of funny and it's like, okay, come on.

But they went up on the stage.

They got him off.

Wow.

Really?

I swear to God.

It's like, well, okay, thanks for coming and stuff like that.

Wow.

Yeah.

So I think the 80th is gonna be better, but that was funny.

I mean, it was just, but boy, just, I don't know where you got to be found this guy.

But can you be

John Maino

so uncomfortable when you're sitting there?

Right.

And that's just, yeah.

But anyway,

I want to hear your story when

John Maino

we get back.

Oh, yeah.

Sarah says, follow the Tarleton on Facebook.

Sarah.

OK.

Yeah, we

John Maino

should.

I want to hire Sarah on something.

We're not going to pay her.

Because we don't have any money.

She is more attuned to everything going on.

I know.

In this area than any person I know.

She is.

I've offered to hire her.

Yeah, she's plugged

John Maino

in.

Sarah, do you have a home or do you just wander around from event to event

to event?

Because I

John Maino

see you at every event.

Yeah, she's great.

We're hiring you.

We need people like that to get the world off.

That's one of the problems.

Anyway, we're helpless.

Forecast mostly sunny high in the low 60s today That's about the way it is today kind of a strong wind coming directly from the north that one is right the flag is still half masked on the Courthouse, but no one else would that still be for the Pope No, no, okay

Um, it's just Oh,

government brought it up hard

John Maino

enough.

I'm

good.

John Maino

It's like, oh, wait, you're supposed to do that last week.

Oh, hey, break time.

Let's go.

Yeah.

No, I don't think so.

Got a couple of things here.

Apparently the Malva shows movies in deep here.

Says Brian.

The Malva

shows movies in deep.

John Maino

All right.

Okay.

Did not know that.

I'm going there.

I still haven't

John Maino

been

there.

Yeah, there's a party I got invited to over there.

I'm sure you got it too.

All right.

John Maino

Um,

Got this one from cowboy Dave.

I'm still waiting to see and glorious bastards at the Depear theater I've never been in the Depear theater.

Oh, that's and I'd like to I'd like to go in there sometime Yeah, you know there was a thing that the guy try started up.

Oh man.

This has to be for a

piece of their The Depear theater,

John Maino

okay that cuz a

guy

John Maino

one time I'm sorry try doing that at the Tarleton Because I remember it was back when me and Vinnie were doing a show.

I remember

John Maino

that's how far back that guy goes

And it just didn't

quite beer and pizza.

That was like the

John Maino

first one in the area.

What do you mean it didn't?

I thought I liked that.

You didn't like it?

No, no.

No, it's

John Maino

fine.

It didn't succeed.

It may have been.

It may have been the movies he was choosing.

I don't know if they were

top notch.

I wouldn't.

I don't remember that.

To see that jazz thing and your salads.

The price is a little.

More because of course say the entertainment was free.

Were you talking music theater or movies?

No, I'm talking Tarleton, right?

Yeah, I like the seating there.

We we I don't know what your point was.

We so we ordered food and it was great.

I don't enjoy

John Maino

you there to watch

jazz

John Maino

a movie Nope, that's what I mean.

You were there to watch live performance Okay, and that's more of the dinner theater type thing right which people do all

right So you're saying going

John Maino

to a movie it didn't didn't quite seem to get that same thing Hmm.

Yeah

good guy to us really pulling for him.

We did shows over there and, you know, that dinner theater shtick.

Those people make a lot of money.

I mean, like these former actors who, you know, I'll tell you a funny story.

When I was living in Scottsdale and still going to school at ASU and Bob Crane.

Was in that was a weird

Bob

John Maino

Crane who was Hogan from Hogan's heroes right

how he died

John Maino

town for Scottsdale theater really, okay?

In fact, you know that I'm okay.

Okay.

I I told them that something you guys have in common, but I don't think we should talk

John Maino

about it No, no, I'm mentioned in a review in the Scottsdale newspaper for one of my performances I'm

sure you will you got everything.

John Maino

So anyway, what was Hogan doing down there dinner theater?

And

what did he

John Maino

do?

Because he's a comedian?

John Maino

Oh.

I don't know what the play was.

OK, I didn't know much about him.

I just know he was a very creepy

John Maino

guy.

But

I knew one of the

John Maino

guys from our theater department, OK, had a small role in the thing.

And they said he was a creepy guy.

OK, Drake from the beginning, they said he was a creepy guy.

He said he always walked around in a bathrobe that was a little.

Too much undone thing behind stage.

A

lot.

I think a lot of

John Maino

performers back then did because that was their way of something, something.

But that's what I remember about him saying.

Yeah.

And

then he was shorter than

John Maino

he was.

Then he thought he was.

Yeah.

But any body walked on a white bathrobe all the time between shows running danger.

Yes.

Right.

Oh, did he?

Oh, yeah.

I could see

John Maino

that.

He did.

Oh, I could totally see that.

He did.

Anyway, that's when's the last time you ever wore a bathrobe?

Doing time I've ever you

know what the last time

John Maino

what

the last time I did minus I was even embroidered It's a pack of wine.

I guess those are good robes over there

John Maino

actually somebody might have thought I was a little freaky because this it was that time we're in New York and just by Unbelievable we got off the subway at 42nd and like 5th Avenue

that's happening

John Maino

and it's like while we're here right and there's a Howard Johnson a holiday in right in the course like you wouldn't think a holiday would be downtown

Manhattan and we walked in it's like hey out of the blue there.

You don't have anything right as well We just had a cancellation.

It was a Saturday afternoon and they said we'll give it to you for their lowest rate Wow, but it's a penthouse suite Wow,

yeah, I did jump in that

John Maino

so they had robes.

Yeah, they're ropes Yeah, so not only that I see these guys coming with these big carts of food and they got like a almost like a Banquet room just for the people in there you could go back you get food and bring to you so I put on the bathrobe

So I'm just walking around in that place getting so much for I think I went back like seven

you went to the concierge lounge in your bathrobe.

I Hate when people do that.

I don't know if that's what it was called.

Well, if they had all the food there Yeah, it was for that's that that was those top counts concierge lounge you were in that's for you

Food that's something to get free drinks.

I have to sign it.

Okay, free drinks.

You went in there with your bathrobe.

When people do that, I'm like, okay.

It was a high-class bathroom, Jim.

You poor guy.

Yeah.

Okay.

I've seen you before.

John Maino

It was a New York City.

Yeah.

Staying on

John Maino

Fifth

Avenue bathrobe.

Yeah.

Quick, somebody take a picture of me.

I wish

John Maino

I could have fit it in my suitcase.

It's just too fluffy.

Couldn't get the suitcase

close.

But that is cool when I had the bathrobes.

Oh my God.

That's the greatest thing ever.

And those are really nice.

Yes.

John Maino

Oh,

but when I get back to my store, I'm

John Maino

great.

Yeah.

But yeah.

They made huge money.

I mean even that guy cuz it was Union.

Oh, yeah, were they're doing just at this bit part?

He said Bob Crane was making like $2,000 a week and that was 1978 or something like that.

Yeah, he was making I mean so I mean, you know people say oh the poor guy used to be such a star and now he's doing dinner theater It's kind of like the Branson thing.

Oh, he used to be at the Grand Ole

Opry like you said poor guys at Branson.

You're gonna get on the road again.

Why would I

John Maino

never?

No, there's some money to be made in those kind of things.

Especially those older guys.

Like, we like to see that.

You know, I absolutely think there's there's an audience out there.

No

John Maino

question

about it.

It's not.

John Maino

I mean, tell me your daughter once she's done with her medical career, if she wanted to follow her true passion, you could she could do that year

round.

And that's something that you can do.

You're right.

There's no doubt she's going to do that.

John Maino

Yep.

I think it's cool.

Got a couple of things here.

Brian, Kate and House,

we're getting into it.

Hey,

John Maino

Johnny, you should have just worn the robe when you left.

Brian?

Another one.

Hey, that's the Hugh

John Maino

Heffner influence.

Yes, that's what they think they are.

That's who they think they are.

Terry

John Maino

says he appeared in the first movie.

I said there was a kid who was Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston.

That

John Maino

was a land-breaking movie, wasn't it?

Oh that get your hands off me you damn sticking ape

That makeup

John Maino

yes

for that time phenomenal.

John Maino

Yeah,

but to

John Maino

see these monkeys talking.

That was so cool I guess that are quick break breakfast

When the mayor is streaming weekday mornings on Facebook live search for minow in the mayor or WSS or WGBW Jump in leave a comment and be a part of the conversation now back to minow in the mayor Here's John minow and Jim Schmidt.

John Maino

Hey, thank you very much.

Welcome back minow the mayor here a good-looking Wednesday morning a little chillier as we mentioned in yesterday 54 out there right now and that wind coming from the north at 10 to 12 miles an hour a little blustery Appleton 54 Oshkosh 55

Forecast mostly sunny and high in the low 60s, pretty much a week.

It looks like, but I did see some eights popping up for next week.

Eights, but 70s this week.

This is going to be a good week.

I'll take that.

Yeah.

Yeah.

No

John Maino

question.

Today is National Tourism Day.

Hi.

You going anywhere?

Sheboygan.

Got lunch today.

Got some double

John Maino

broth.

There's a great Italian restaurant.

You would love it in downtown Sheboy.

John Maino

Somebody else.

You know, it's funny you would say that,

John Maino

Jim.

When I was in real estate, I was showing a guy a place down there, whatever.

And he'd come up from Milwaukee.

And he said, hey, do you have time for lunch?

Because he's a really nice guy and everything.

His kids had gone to St.

Norbert and everything.

And he was a dentist.

And I said, I can't.

I got to go back and show another thing.

Because there's a phenomenal Italian restaurant here we're going to.

It's good.

And that was the first time I'd heard about it.

And then I mentioned to somebody else.

They said, oh, you don't know about that place.

No, that's anyway.

John Maino

Yeah.

I'd like to talk when Dennis comes in, he was all he Dennis was more excited about going to dinner on Sunday down in Waukesha or West Alice than he was about the Whammy's.

He said there's his favorite Italian restaurant.

Where?

Maja.

Majano's in

in West Alice.

Yeah.

John Maino

Or either one of the W West Alice, Waukesha.

The event was the

John Maino

event.

One of the W towns down there.

But he was all excited about that.

When you find

John Maino

a good Italian

restaurant,

John Maino

a really

good one.

And that's this thing that anybody can throw

John Maino

tomato sauce

on pasta.

Oh, look at

John Maino

this.

It's Italian.

These guys, this place, you walk in, I mean, of course, a little garlic, but their appetizers, unbelievable.

Their waiters and waitresses, they hired the right ones.

It's that this place is it's great man.

I'll look up the names next break, but I

John Maino

have all the different types of foods wouldn't you say that?

Real Italian really good Italian food really slick about 90% of the Italian food you find is all pretty much you could do a blind taste test and be the same and then when it's that 10% different it really stands out

but that that that 10% different is one of its old recipes and secondly it's been

Cook, it's not fast.

They've been cooking that for a while in the back.

Absolutely.

Yeah, that's just, yeah, they're such good food.

Love it.

Anyway, so that's what I'm doing.

John Maino

I mean, even to my family, when they'd have a guitar, well, hold on a second.

I mean, it was almost an all day.

I mean, my dad would go to 5.30 mass Sunday morning and buy.

Quarter to seven he was starting with the polenta and the veal and the that was an all-day thing awesome Yeah, I got a texture of a vision of Jim wearing a robe with an ascot slippers and a pipe Michael

that Michael that's Howard Hughes, man No, what's the name the playboy guy?

John Maino

Yeah, yeah, no

Hugh

John Maino

Heffner.

Yeah,

I can see

John Maino

Howard Hughes doing that

too

John Maino

movie about him.

What's his name played him Leonardo DiCaprio.

It's a good movie.

Okay, yeah

Um, thank

you, Michael.

John Maino

Yes.

Today is Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.

Very important.

You bet.

Tremendously important.

Tremendously.

Um, Skilled Trades Day.

Good.

Love it.

If I could go back in time, I would be 19 years old and I'd be getting, uh, plumbing, electric.

Something, right?

I wouldn't do that.

And you would be sitting here now.

No.

You'd be sitting at one of your cottages.

John Maino

Yep.

I'd be sitting in my cottage with your homeless people.

We're wearing a robe and an ascot.

John Maino

People have to know my reference to that.

Yeah, I know.

All right,

we'll tell the story one more time.

One more time.

One more time.

John was not picking on the homeless, but he said that.

John Maino

Because this is something when it pops into my head, I burst out laughing

and I

John Maino

can't help it.

There are certain

John Maino

things that just, it just

reaction.

This is where we worry about, you know.

Kathryn Lake

Our

youth.

Well, we just worry about stratification

Kathryn Lake

where

it's like that.

people live in different bubbles.

And we really have to have an understanding of there's, sure there's people who fly in private jet, but there's also people that don't know where they're going to eat tomorrow.

And we have to have that understanding.

Well, we went into a group of kids, great kids that were helping

Kathryn Lake

out from a high

school in one of the wealthier suburbs in Green Bay.

And we, they came to serve on, was it Labor Day?

I thought it was Memorial Day.

It was Memorial Day weekend.

So they came and Johnny was serving too.

All right, I'll just tell you the story.

Okay, so we're serving and we usually served like last night, we had like 138.

people came.

It's always over a hundred.

Well, in this Memorial Day, it was, so we had these kids coming from this wealthy high school and they're standing there.

It was slow in like 70 people like, man, it's really slow today.

Memorial Day weekend, the guy's like, you know what?

They're probably all up at the cottages.

We're like, no.

The homeless are at their cottages.

Anyway, sorry, we're done with that.

But you would be at your cottage if you took the, and I think that's great that we honor trades.

And they don't brag like they should about their wealth.

Like, you know, like sometimes- Well, I wanted to say this.

You ever

John Maino

see

their trucks?

Yeah, I'm saying that the trucks, the cottage, the next to no

John Maino

debt.

I think it's great, man.

But

John Maino

if we have to

talk about that more, I think, I think we grew up thinking, you know, the white collar was gonna make more money than the blue collar.

John Maino

Absolutely.

And I'll tell you what, it is not

John Maino

that way.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Totally agree.

Uh, roast leg of lamb

day.

Love

John Maino

it.

I can't think of anything worse.

Yeah, I don't want to

John Maino

celebrate that

either.

I'm celebrating this.

I didn't know

John Maino

we had our own day.

I'm sorry.

Lamb is like the only animal I feel bad for.

It's like, why do you have to eat them?

Can't

let just let them be.

John Maino

It tastes damn good.

That's what we eat.

Shave them or whatever it is

they call.

I know, I know.

John Maino

Shucking them or whatever.

What's that called?

No, shucking you.

Shucking oysters.

Well, yes, it's corn.

It's oysters too.

John Maino

What's it called?

Shearing.

Shearing.

John Maino

Shearing.

Today is also the great American grump out day.

So try not to be grumpy today is basically what it is.

John Maino

Okay.

I'm not gonna breathe.

How about this?

Don't breathe today, John.

I was thinking the same thing for me.

Wow.

John Maino

Great American grump out day.

I like it.

Eagle Eye Cherry is 57.

Remember him?

I do.

Saved tonight.

John Maino

Yes.

Yep.

His sister Nina Cherry, Buffalo stance.

John Maino

Didn't know that, but there you go.

I'm going to say that was about 1990.

Which one?

John Maino

Buffalo stands.

Possibly 80s, 90s.

Yeah.

About that.

John Maino

Tracy Lords.

57.

Yeah.

Started her career young.

She did.

And then became

legit.

Legit.

Correct.

Yeah.

Jim, do you know who Tracy?

No.

I

don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

Talked about that a year ago.

I just don't that's not my thing.

Yeah.

Anyway, that's great.

I'm glad you guys enjoy this part.

John Maino

Um Astros at Brewers 1135 to NWISS and Gateway Day had the roof open last night.

Absolutely.

Today.

Oh, absolutely.

Yeah.

Hey, the kid from Pittsburgh is walking the kid who fell out

of the

John Maino

leeches.

Oh, good, good, good.

How many I was so

John Maino

he was paralyzed from the

neck

John Maino

down.

Yeah.

Okay, I'm gonna say one thing

John Maino

and that's poor and I've always

I told you guys

John Maino

young yeah with 22 Okay, okay.

Let me just say this so I've always had a fear of that and I'm not joking Even at the old County Stadium I remember an opening day sitting up along that right field line and how low

the railings that

John Maino

railing was That's

not cooked to code anymore

John Maino

Wow, that could, I mean, somebody could be walking, especially if it was a taller guy, higher center of gravity.

I mean, you could literally

push a

John Maino

guy right over those things.

Well, good.

I'm glad to hear that.

Why did he fall over?

John Maino

Well, they said he was just excited.

And, you know, it's, he was a taller guy, I guess, and just kind of, you know, whatever.

Okay.

All right.

More things are coming out as they always do.

At first it was alcohol was not involved.

Then it went I'm not making accusations.

I'm just telling you everything that just things kind of come out piecemeal sometimes alcohol is not involved.

Okay Then it was like, oh, they believe he had two beers.

Okay, then it was well He had just doused himself with beer after a guy hit a home run Do you kind of start seeing me?

Maybe he was a little

if you had two beers there, you don't have any before yeah, yeah

John Maino

doused himself in beer.

Yeah, I see again

Shouldn't lead to a guy breaking his neck or whatever, but all I'm saying is

I saw that that Oh, that was good.

I'm glad he's alright or if I see that I'm almost

John Maino

surprised they keep showing that video because it's so gruesome The way he falls.

I know.

John Maino

Oh I know Jim Google Tracy lords at work to find out who she is

Okay, Brian.

I will

John Maino

in fact do it.

Well Donna's looking over your shoulder

I didn't throw that one up.

Throw

John Maino

on that one.

The

newly divorced former

John Maino

mayor at Green Bay.

Who gets the

dog?

I get a call from corporate because Jim's on the corporate Wi-Fi.

John Maino

Todd told me to look at this.

Is she

John Maino

looking at

Tracy Lords online?

John Maino

It's show prep.

Free Ticket Friday and WISS and WGBD starts this Friday.

Let's talk about that.

So

baseball.

Baseball.

We got tickets for the Brewers in every Friday during the summer months during the season.

We are going to all day long on WISS, WGBW and across the Civic Media Network.

You got a chance to win Free Ticket Friday.

It's a text to win contest.

So coming up Friday morning.

We will have a word for them to text in for a chance to win.

John Maino

Love it.

Yeah.

It's fun.

Love

John Maino

it.

Love it.

Love it.

And

that is

such a fun

time down there.

The stadium's

John Maino

great.

No

John Maino

question.

I mean, I'll tell you what, all the people, I remember in County Stadium there, it's like, ah, it's the last where Hank Aaron played him.

You're right.

It's all great, but.

You could talk to any media person in the United States from back in the air in the 70s or 80s or whatever They will tell you Milwaukee County stadium was the worst facility

in

John Maino

professional sports

locker rooms were awful.

I mean the players

John Maino

didn't like it Horrific you would have terrible for the

fans.

Oh worst

John Maino

place ever to watch

a football game.

Structed views.

Yeah, I was just It was terrible.

That was terrible.

This stadium they have and I've never been there but that is I love it.

It's services great.

Yeah, food's good.

Yeah, but I remember they

John Maino

don't take cash

Oh, they don't hear

John Maino

that?

No.

You know what I was surprised?

Okay, the whole time we were driving up to the draft, through those side streets where people were renting out their yards.

Okay, kept seeing the signs.

We accept Venmo.

Yeah.

Is it Venmo?

Vemo?

Venmo.

Venmo.

John Maino

What exactly

is

John Maino

that?

Don't tell you're talking to the wrong guy.

So basically, it's just an app that's attached to your

bank

accounts, right?

And

your phone.

And from there, you can send that to anybody else who has that app.

So if you had Venmo right now and said, Todd, I need you to spot me at 20.

If I had that in my account, I could send it to you.

Do you have to get charged like $21 for doing that?

Where's the money in that?

Where do they get

their cut?

Well, sometimes when people send you large amounts of money and you want to transfer it to your bank account, sometimes there's a fee for

John Maino

that.

But generally, like if you use Cash App and stuff like that, there's no fee to send that money.

It just goes.

That

John Maino

sounds cool.

Boy, cash is like just disappearing sort of, isn't it?

Yeah,

John Maino

I

don't know.

I mean, you wait.

I don't think that's good.

I don't.

I don't think that's

John Maino

good.

No, I agree.

But I'm just saying, it's like there's so many people.

When they don't take cash, it's like, are you, and I told you that there were some, that was challenged in a couple of places that wait, you're discriminating if you don't take cash because it's almost people who don't have credit cards.

Yeah, that's true.

Uh, there might be people who have money that don't like credit cards.

They're just a cash person, you know, under the mattress type people.

And I don't like that.

That happens.

There's a lot of places in national that that's don't take cash.

And it's weird when you're like, oh, it's like, but you

John Maino

and I experienced that twice.

Yep.

And

John Maino

yes, it's inconsistent.

One place only credit

John Maino

card.

Couldn't get.

Well, the one place had the ATM, which was good.

We went for breakfast and the lady wouldn't accept.

Credit cards, right?

Then we went to have a beer and he wouldn't accept

right credit cards that that lady who wouldn't take um That lady wouldn't take credit cards, right?

And then I went and I dug through my car under the seat and I found one of those old checkbooks.

Yeah, that's right And I wrote her a check and I'm like this is a lot riskier than my credit card I don't even know if the count was good.

You know, you knew how old it was just from the the uh the

John Maino

checkbook holder

here the nice

John Maino

fancy little

holder thing

John Maino

they always used to get you on yeah, you know

I

just want the picture of Jim rummaging around under his seats

in his car.

I had a lot of quarters, and I'm like, okay, I got enough.

Which

John Maino

vision would you want, Les?

That or me trying to climb in over the back?

There you go.

To the inside of my car, and I got hung up on the top of the seat.

Or either of you in a bathrobe.

John Maino

No, let's dispense with that.

Which would you rather not see, people?

Back after this.

Kathryn Lake

You're listening to Civic Media.

John Maino

For now 1055 an Oshkosh high and the low 60s today mostly sunny It looks like it's gonna be kind of like this and inching up towards the weekend then it looks like it's gonna get even nicer We'll take it that got a text to remember when you went on vacation had to get travelers checks American Express traveler check I do I remember the first time I was traveling Arizona driving from Michigan to Arizona and Boy, there are two things that my because I hadn't done anything like that

Number one and not to try to sound weird here.

I'm maybe shouldn't even throw so but number one My brother made sure I had a gun and then number two.

I mean when you're traveling cross-country back this I mean, you know And number two was that my sister was a banker said you forget the cash don't take lots cash Travelers checks trap.

I didn't even know what a traveler's check was right

as good as casual.

Wasn't

John Maino

that a

tagline?

No, don't leave home without it.

Oh,

that's right.

That

is

one

American Express

Maybe you're right, Jim.

I think they had their own travels checks, but yeah, America Express, I've had that

John Maino

for a while.

I'm watching this TV show on Netflix or whatever it is.

And really interesting.

It's funny.

It's a comedy.

And it's called Detroit Boys, I think of the name of it.

It's about this guy who was gonna hit Chrysler as his contacts or as his clients.

And then he died suddenly.

So his son was taken over the company would just kind of a screw up.

You know, they're trying to get Chrysler

Kathryn Lake

and they're not going to

John Maino

get crazy.

You know what I mean?

It's like got some got runs a hot tub thing late at night.

And but it's just funny when they're talking about different things and this like somebody will say something out of the blue.

And it's like, that's the slogan.

That's the hook.

Oh,

yeah.

John Maino

That's the hook.

It's not from sitting in a room.

And I've experienced this too.

It's not for sitting in a room with a bunch of people.

So you got your notebook, write down some really creative ideas.

They don't happen that way.

No, they don't.

companies pay a lot of money to people like that.

My McDonald's and, you know, I don't know how much they got paid for that.

That didn't last very long.

But, you know, you just better off with just listen to your customers.

What do they say?

Because that's, that's who you're, that's who's paying the bill.

So anyway, yeah, there's a lot of things that come up, not from the corporate world.

They just come up through happenstance or sitting in a hot tub, sitting in a bar.

It's like, that's awesome.

Yeah.

I wonder how many businesses tagline would be?

Let's just say Mino and the Mayor is a brand.

Mino and the Mayor, we suck.

Because how many times, you know, all the... That wouldn't be bad.

We're

John Maino

at number two.

We suck and we got people that still listen.

There's a difference.

True.

Got a quick text here.

Went to a supper club near Kelly Lake last week and found out they only took cash.

Glad I had $75.

It says

cans.

I'm not sure.

John Maino

Okay.

Hey, Misty.

$75 cans in my wallet usually wouldn't.

They did have an ATM menu had nothing about cash listed.

Yeah.

John Maino

That does happen.

I

wonder what happens when the people are like, I don't have any cash.

Do they just say, okay, we'll take your credit card?

I'm always interested in their tax return.

When they take only cash?

Yeah.

I'm sure they claim

John Maino

everything.

I would.

I'd climb every day because I don't want to screw over the government.

But I mean that,

John Maino

yeah,

that's see, I'm OK with that.

Some bar up in Kelly Lake and cash only.

That'd be fun.

That's kind of throwback.

John Maino

Let's let's see something we've got for a price package.

We've got

we've got I can do a twenty five dollar gift card this morning.

John Maino

All right.

One.

All right.

We're putting.

Let's see.

What are we doing?

OK.

Like what we were talking about.

Because I'll be honest, I I got pulled off into a in Arizona.

Into a at a mall and they say would you like to watch a couple of videos for us and just write down your opinions?

We'll ask you some questions So it's one of those focus group type things and I forget what it was about something I never heard of ever again So it didn't make it and I remember this one lady throw it a couple of things and the guy was like Could you stick around oh, and it's like oh

She's creative.

John Maino

Yes, and she was just a person shopping at the mall

awesome,

John Maino

okay?

I tell you that so can you imagine when

John Maino

that guy went back to the corporate

took all the credit for it?

John Maino

Absolutely, and you know what I mean?

It's like here's what I came up with and it was some lady with her kids at the mall came up with some great slogan Yeah, and you knew it at the time everybody else in the room was just kind of like wow.

Yeah, that's perfect I think I

John Maino

was like yes, so $25 gift card to us our tagline might on the mayor

Finish okay

And it's gotta be this slogan.

Yeah, it's gonna be like seven words or something Yes, you'll grow to love them for first entry go ahead you'll grow to love them mine

John Maino

on the

mare if you be

John Maino

mine on the mare

you'll grow to love them if you become a centurion Sorry, okay, let me look

John Maino

at that.

Okay,

John Maino

you'll grow to love them

Trust us.

Trust us.

As a TJ, thank you.

All right,

John Maino

thank you, TJ.

All right.

TJ is in the lead for the $25 gift card courtesy of Nicollet National Bank.

Thank you very much, TJ.

Appreciate that.

John Maino

We'll ask them.

Yeah, exactly.

Let's ask them.

All right, but Saturday, 6 to 10, what an important thing this is.

Oh, yeah.

Mental Health America of Wisconsin, Kristen Waite, Labot.

This could be fantastic.

Got some other entries here.

Mino in the Mare.

Okay.

Oh, this is me.

Yeah.

Okay, like bold on cheese.

Cultured and necessary.

Now, isn't that nice?

All right.

The mold on cheese, cultured and necessary.

Why is the mold on cheese necessary?

John Maino

I don't know.

I don't know.

Okay.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I like it.

We'll take it.

We'll take it.

John Maino

We'll take it.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay.

Okay.

What?

Let me do the,

John Maino

I want to do the first part.

No, no, no.

You got the second one.

Who's this last one from Todd?

Which

John Maino

one?

The very last one.

Michael?

Oh, Michael last one is there.

Okay.

Ready?

Mine or the beer?

Mine or talks?

The mayor pretends to listen.

There's that regular.

One more.

Mine

John Maino

on the mayor!

Like an annoying foot, they just don't go away.

What?

I don't

know what

that means.

That might be the

winner, just

because you

don't

understand it.

Wow, okay.

They're just talking about how you complain about your foot all the time.
