And here are your hosts, John Minow and Jim Schmidt.

John Maino

Happy Thursday, greatest day of the week.

One of the greatest weeks of the year because you're anticipating things.

I'm a big fan of the anticipation versus the participation.

That is true just as long as you don't like, what's it called?

John Maino

It's like Christmas.

What's the best part of Christmas?

Two weeks before Christmas.

Leading up to it.

Then you open the gifts and the gifts are done.

It's a let's burn the wrappers in the fireplace and have a drink You know what I mean?

I think you have I thought you didn't have a fireplace

John Maino

years ago.

Oh

John Maino

Which is something I never should have done burning Christmas wrappings.

Oh, yeah That is like number one thing don't do nobody ever told us that though.

Why?

Um, I think it's because of the poisonous

Ink or something?

There's like chemicals in that stuff.

And I also think because of the way it's made, it's very easy to kind of fly away.

Oh, that is true.

You

gotta throw something on top of it.

Yeah, that's true.

But we did that.

John Maino

I had somebody, you know them both well, two brothers.

I'm not going to mention their names.

It begins with an O, begins with a V, ends with an O. They were trying to clean up for their mom after Christmas, and they had to get rid of the Christmas tree.

And they put it in the fireplace.

Oh,

John Maino

God.

They said it was like a flamethrower coming out.

Wow.

John Maino

The Mitrano brothers.

I can top that.

John Maino

Go

ahead.

My sister, Ellen, my oldest sister, the one that passed away, was a teacher, second grade, for 40 years or something she taught.

And in their room, they had a hamster.

You know, not guinea pig.

Okay, a guinea pig then kids could learn that feed it and all stuff and she brought home and Was in a box and she brought it home and then you know, my dad's like, okay boys clean up this room You know put the stuff in the fireplace.

So threw everything in there and then get this so then No,

John Maino

I'm a little bit worried where this is going

the next morning Where's Benji?

Oh, so my dad's like Where's Benji?

Oh boys, where's Benji?

Good honor to stick.

John Maino

No.

Yeah.

No.

Yes.

No.

Yeah.

The Christmas we cremated.

The Christmas we

cremated.

That's terrible.

John Maino

That

was, John, I bet you I was, I was young and we, we, we just don't, we didn't forget that one.

That's terrible.

It was, wasn't it?

But you get, right, first of all,

in our defense, in our

defense, in our defense.

There is no defense.

Ten

John Maino

kids.

You can't kill the guinea pig and have a defense.

Was he dead already?

No.

It was in a box.

Just wait.

I didn't set

John Maino

the

stage.

Oh, wait.

And he said, 10 kids, tons of gifts and boxes.

And my dad said, boys, go clean up that room.

And so I blame my sister a little bit.

She shouldn't have had the guinea pig Benji in the box in that room, right in the family room.

So he said, clean that

John Maino

up.

It's just chilling.

It's like, man, this has been stressful.

20 people running around, patting me, scratching me behind the ear.

I'm just going to chill.

I'm going to take a nice nap.

I can relax.

It's getting a little warm in

here.

But one brother took it really

John Maino

hard.

Turn down the heat.

My one brother took it really, really hard.

But how did you take it?

Look.

Bleep happens,

John Maino

you know

That's how

I would take

it my brother Bill, you know put it like in a shoebox and took it to the priest and had it blessed he did a little late for that But I don't know or fourth or fifth sixth grade maybe that's

John Maino

I know he took it on

his bike.

John Maino

Okay.

I will say this anyway that is worse

Then my story of my dog Jet, when my friends came and said, hey, get your knife.

We're going to skin a raccoon.

Make a hat out of it.

And I grabbed my knife, and we run out there in the ditch, and it was my dog Jet.

It wasn't a raccoon that was dead hit by a car.

Ooh, I don't know.

That's close.

Yeah, but.

He didn't do it.

He didn't do it.

Right, right, right.

None of them actually killed the dog.

And we didn't skin him.

He didn't skin him.

Well, that's good.

Thanks, John.

I

John Maino

told you though we buried him and then a couple years later tried to dig him up to see what the skeleton Yeah, and varnish him.

I think kids would do that kids do that.

Yeah, that's what you're with all the time

Did you

John Maino

find him?

No, we couldn't find him.

It reminded me of remember the Stand by me movie Yeah, once you bury something someplace, you're never gonna find that again.

Isn't that crazy?

Do you put cross over him?

John Maino

We actually had it.

Oh, I told you that story.

We actually had a funeral procession

And we built a cross out of barnwood and we're walking and the girls were like what they used to have to wear in church veils Yeah, the girls all were the finola girls that there's a gig girls and Rappasini girls They all wore the veil.

They tried to be funny.

Were they serious

right?

Okay, that's what

John Maino

I thought So we're going with the big cross.

Yeah, am I Nona eighty eight nine-year-old Nona grandma.

So, you know, she lived across it

Because we're doing the thing she said somebody in the family died.

So we're doing a physician for jet my dog

Yeah,

John Maino

I'm sorry Jim.

I you taught me

that that is

John Maino

that you tell you

what if you would call my mom who's listening right now She would call it like yesterday, and I'll bet you Johnny that was hold on my

John Maino

60 years, right?

My people quick Paul who's

Incident was more traumatic.

Me going to skin my dog, Jack, because we thought it was a raccoon.

It was hit by a car.

Or Jim's sister.

Benji was the

John Maino

cremating their pet.

Well, we didn't really cremate him, John.

We killed him.

We murdered

John Maino

him.

We murdered him at the stake.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, that was murder.

That was beyond.

Yeah, you were great.

It was not.

I

John Maino

hit him.

That was like a Joan of

Arcade.

What Todd said was, yeah.

No, he wasn't cremated.

John Maino

That was Joan of Arc.

He was not dead before he went into the...

John Maino

What was

he thinking?

I know, right?

John Maino

Christmas.

How

can you do this to me at Christmas?

John Maino

I know.

You know?

For

John Maino

life!

God, turn the heat down!

I'm sweating in here.

What have I done to you?

John Maino

What did I do to deserve this?

Wow.

John Maino

Jim says 100 per...

Oh, okay.

What's that, Todd?

Whose incident was more traumatic?

Jim's or John's?

Yes.

100% Jim.

Yeah.

I would think so.

Wasn't

that something?

Wow.

That's amazing.

And I told you about my dog's incident.

That wasn't as bad, but that was, um... Nope.

What?

You didn't tell me.

I think I told you.

Todd, I don't remember it.

Okay, so we had a dog, a Bajon.

Baker a great dog.

He was he was a great

John Maino

dog.

Can you say something a little bit funny?

I mean a little bit a little bit coincidental I'm right last night actually at three o'clock three thirty this morning when I was writing because that's when I like to write, you know Okay, so quiet.

You don't have anything to do and I'm writing this story about this guy who was in the Navy in the early 60s and one of his thing was at Pensacola Air Force Base and He was into medical and that's when they're doing lots and lots of experiments for the space program with monkeys

and their favorite monkey, their chimp, was named Baker.

And when guys would harass him, he would throw his excrement in their faces.

But it's just funny that the chimps, I was just writing this a couple of hours ago, our favorite chimp was named Baker.

And here you come up with, your dog's name is

Baker.

Our dog's name was Baker, yes.

John Maino

Okay, so go

ahead.

A bachon.

Bachon.

Which

John Maino

I

hate.

Why?

Those are great dogs, John.

Oh, God.

Oh, no, man, Baker was

John Maino

awesome.

I had a bachon.

We had a bachon.

I told you that story.

You had a bachon?

I'm a

little bit surprised because you guys were a little,

John Maino

you know, we only had hunting dogs.

We didn't have dogs.

Yeah, but Bajans don't hunt and

John Maino

they're all super expensive.

No, no, no, no.

This is like not that long ago.

I got up.

I wanted my daughter to go to leave the school she was in and go to a different school.

I wanted to go to resurrection, which was right at the end of our street.

It was right there at the university.

Okay.

So I promised I'd get her a dog.

So I got her a dog.

Bishan

Bishan, that's

John Maino

thing Did his thing all over the kitchen all over you know what I mean?

It wasn't trained.

Okay.

So

John Maino

I

bought the dog's fault

John Maino

I bought a VHS and a book on how to train your Bishan and said Earl first thing in the morning You must take him outside let him under.

Okay.

I get it was the middle after Christmas Coldest winter we've ever had 42 below zero windshield and I'm out there at this dog walking around Yep, and I'm taking them six in the morning

Okay, you know, I worked till late at night.

I was doing TV.

Okay.

Take him in.

He would hold it, hold it, hold it.

As soon as we got to the house, he'd run to his favorite corner and do his thing in the kitchen.

He'd already learned that.

He would hold it and that was his

John Maino

place to do it.

That's what he said.

So we couldn't like break him off that.

So we had to give him away or sell him.

Well, and my daughter resented that like forever.

Yeah.

John Maino

Yeah.

So Bichon's.

This just stuff you could have done put him in a cage and just make it

really

small.

No make it really really small So if he's gonna go he's gonna go on himself.

They won't do that and then you take

him

outside There's a lot

of listen what you can do is put him in a box and then a Christmas

John Maino

I should have treated him the way we treated our dogs our hunting dogs build a pen outside Let him do his thing right in his thing

You know what I mean?

Here's your choice.

You can have this or you can have that.

But you started it a little bit late too.

What do you mean?

You had the dog and then you started training him later.

John Maino

Well, as soon as we got

him.

I thought you said that he was doing that in the house and then you...

John Maino

Oh, well, yeah, yeah, yeah.

We just assumed he would... I never had a house stuck before.

I didn't know the routine of having a house.

That's a lot of work having a house

stuck.

Totally.

It is.

John Maino

Oh,

man.

So what happened with your dog though?

You're

fishing.

Okay, here we go.

Christmas Eve.

Okay.

All right.

He's also like put him in the freezer or

John Maino

something.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

John Maino

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

And their house is like a ranch house and you open the door to the living rooms right there.

There's no foyer or anything.

So Laura, my youngest daughter, put Baker outside on the leash.

you know, to just like play, go to the bathroom.

So, and I had set up to have Santa come at seven o'clock, bring the gifts and everything.

And I had this guy for years, paid him, tipped him well.

I could pick the time.

It's not like, you know, some of those guys.

So anyway, seven o'clock, we're waiting and we're all sitting there, Donna's parents and her sister and their family.

And of course, my family and my kids, seven o'clock.

The door, I'm like, who is that?

Who's going to answer the door?

And who's going to get it to open the door?

Guy's standing there.

You guys have a white dog?

I'm like, yeah.

Well, I just ran him over.

He got off the leash in the backyard because the chain leash lured and hooked it because of the ice.

And he ran the dog over.

So I go out there.

Oh my god.

So tire marks.

And this was on Christmas too?

This is Christmas Eve.

Seven o'clock, the knock at the door, it's that guy.

I'm out there looking at Baker, he's laying on the ground with a tire mark on him.

Santa pulls up.

I'm like, Santa, this ain't gonna work.

I said, tonight's not the night.

John Maino

You

win.

You

win.

I'll

tell you the rest of the story when we come back,

but we'll be

right back.

Wow.

Cracker box, Jimmy, but I ain't never cracked up yet.

The more I try to make a buck in this beat up truck, the more semi-crazy I get.

Yeah, I'm semi-crazy.

I gotta be half nuts.

They keep running up and down the road in these semi-trucks.

John Maino

Trucker Thursday Get out out there keep the shiny side up keep the bugs off the windshield all the respect to the world for our truckers doing their thing Every day of the year.

Do they take any days off?

I mean truckers, you know what I mean?

They're just like they're always on the road.

I was doing something

Yeah, and early.

John Maino

Yep.

No, I like they said last weekend I've been

how what do I need to do to become a trucker Todd?

Gotta get your license right okay through some training, but I don't

I think they really need truck drivers now, so I

John Maino

think they pay for that.

Every truck you get behind says, hey, look, hiring drivers, the whole thing.

But I don't want to drive an 18-wheeler.

I want something smaller.

I wouldn't be good at backing up with an 18-wheeler.

I wouldn't be good at turning with an 18-wheeler.

Don't think

you're going to get that, because I think I would assume that you're not the only one.

So I think there's probably some seniority.

And don't you think even a guy with an 18-wheeler would like to drive something smaller?

I guess.

John Maino

But once you can drive an 18-wheeler, you'd think anything else is kind of old but not a trap I'm gonna talk about something tragic here about something we were talking about the other day Remember we're actually only had Sean here from for Marinette.

They're talking about the bolt races speedboat races which could be awesome But remember we were also talking about some of these fishing tournaments the way these guys take off.

It's crazy man That's nuts three people killed in Alabama at a fishing tournament

Could they hit each other yeah, yeah

That is

John Maino

they're going wide open spot or something and they hit something and one of the guys was killed right away the other two drowned because again, of course, you're not going to have life preservers.

Yeah, they should

John Maino

hear the man.

I know.

Do you see that?

Well, three people killed at a fishing tournament in Alabama.

And it's exactly what Sean was talking about.

And we were talking about with with these fishing tournaments.

Sometimes these people just go nuts trying to get to their spot and they collided.

Three killed he's not

too bad.

That's two guys drowned because

John Maino

you

don't have to be wearing I know those aren't comfortable

John Maino

nobody wears them at those tournaments I almost think it's a little bit of a macho thing

Unless you know, I mean that's not the law you have to wear them, but you have to have you know, and we've got that guy coming on my show and it

I don't know that's

John Maino

when that's what we're talking about.

There's even what do we have on here the other day?

We're talking about that where it's like there are no like minor accidents on the water if you're collision on the one now somebody's going pretty fast and then somebody you know what I mean

and two things right I mean you'd be you can have the the injuries but then you got the water

John Maino

there right absolutely

yeah

John Maino

Yeah.

Unbelievable.

Got another thing here.

Whose incident was more traumatic?

Mino going to skin his dog or Jim's sister burning their guinea pig on Christmas?

My sister didn't do it.

I thought it was your sister.

She was a teacher.

She brought the guinea pig home because it was

John Maino

winter break.

It was a classroom?

Yes.

So she had to go back and explain what happened to her kids?

She did.

Just keeps getting what yeah, I was explaining a lot of things you peel back the layer of the owner the

the the gang that killed the Benji the guinea pig was

My brothers and I, because my dad said boys go down there.

John Maino

I understand that.

Okay, so she didn't do it.

I don't

wanna say she didn't

John Maino

do it.

No, but she had to go to class.

And explain where Benji

John Maino

was.

Mrs. Schmidt, where's Baker?

That's not Baker, it's Benji was his name.

Baker was the one that got run over by

John Maino

the car.

I could just see these guys, oh, it's so sad about Benji, but at least we still have Baker.

Well, it's probably 20 years apart.

Next day on that one, kids.

There's two stories for 20 years

John Maino

apart.

Yeah, I'm just saying.

Wow.

Whoo, so

John Maino

so Paul whose story was more traumatic of the three stories, which is the most traumatic me going to skin my dog Jim sister burning up Benji or burning Baker or Santa Claus running over Baker

No, no don't that wasn't Santa Claus showed up right like because they're supposed to be there at seven so

John Maino

the guy ran over Okay, I said mentally there will always be this connection

between

John Maino

Santa Claus and thinking of I'll

say that that's not the worst story

So then we took, so then kill grandma.

No, no, no.

So then the grandma in the fireplace, he was.

So then I had to take him and put him in the back seat of the car and the only 24 hour emergency center for dogs is an Appleton and it

John Maino

was a snowy night.

From two rivers.

No, no, I was.

John Maino

It

was.

Yeah.

But the one opened up.

on Ornita Street next to Heavenly Ham.

There's a 20, there's a, it opened

John Maino

up at seven

o'clock.

But I want to tell you, the reason I remember that, this is how nice people are.

So I went there and they opened at like, no, eight o'clock or nine o'clock at night.

So I went and I sat in the parking lot waiting for them to open.

And they, somebody came over from Heavenly Ham and said, can I help you?

And I said, you know what, I'm waiting for that clinic to open.

I

John Maino

got a dead dog in the back seat.

No, I

said my dog got run over by a car and she came and brought me a bag of ice.

For what?

John Maino

to

put

John Maino

up a dog.

Oh,

I thought you're having drinks.

I thought you said that.

I thought that was, I remember that.

Okay.

Isn't that nice?

Yeah.

So they took X-rays of the dog, put him on an IV.

Um, he was there all night and I brought the kids over there.

They're all crying, but then they had to serve master at the cathedral.

I made him do that.

So they had to do that.

Happy Christmas.

When they come in, ask them about that.

Yeah.

John Maino

Oh, I'm

putting that down

John Maino

in the log.

Absolutely.

Captain's vlog.

So he lived.

He lived, but he

lived.

He lived, but he had just really super bruised and he slept.

But

John Maino

did he recover, recover?

You know, was he ever the same?

You know, yeah.

You know, if he was run over by a car, John Detracks were on him.

Wow.

The guy that hit him, though,

John Maino

I just want to say

this.

It was a Bajon.

A little thing like that and he survived.

Yeah, that's amazing.

I know Wow and the guy the guy offered me money who hit my dog.

I'm like, no, you've done enough.

John Maino

Oh, I would have taken it.

No, I said look that's I did really bad I wish I would have got his phone number to call him and say look it because he felt really bad I said not everything's fine.

I wish I would have called him.

So maybe he's listening Wow Wow, and these all happen at Christmas.

I know well those those two things.

Well, yeah Yeah,

John Maino

three things.

We had a

great Christmas is

Other

John Maino

like whoever

sent this text and we did this too.

We would sit around the bonfire burn the Christmas tree in single town and bomb.

We did that too.

Okay.

So I just want to say we had good Christmas.

It's not like someone died every Christmas at our house or were maimed.

John Maino

Wow.

Anyway, whoo strangest start to any show.

I know that was ever anybody out there got some This is our day for all

John Maino

you truckers out there.

What do you got?

Got a text here from Brian.

I'm afraid to make fun of Jim anymore No more linen or Milton text Brian Brian whatever it takes

Wow Anyway, yes,

John Maino

I just I'm just gonna open up the poll just open up your just comments.

Just hope just your comments on

What just transpired over the last half an hour just just your

comments.

Everybody's got their stories and okay,

John Maino

but your sister

I

John Maino

know I mean that had to be kind of traumatic

God.

Yeah, that was yeah,

John Maino

I mean But it but okay.

Can I just say one thing was it like a cardboard box?

Yes, you didn't think of shaking it

John

I'm going to tell you with 10 kids, there's boxes all over and you just take the wrapping paper and you just throw it into the boxes and my dad said, just burn this stuff.

I want that room cleaned up.

And yo, he's a little bit of a stop.

We just like, okay, dad.

You didn't hear the

John Maino

screaming coming from the box.

Just ask

him.

Hey,

John Maino

welcome back.

Todd.

Sir, we're never, there's no chance that during the break

thing.

Trust me, I always try to double check everything.

Thank you.

Yeah, I see you guys going off in there.

I'm like, well, not

that we're gonna ever talk about people, but oh my God.

But yes, there's.

John Maino

We got some texts here.

Why, this is a three-way tie.

We got that in regards to the most traumatic Christmas ever or the most traumatic things.

Me going to skin my dog Jim sister.

What's the word immobilize not immobilize it immolating when you set something on fire emulsion emulsion.

No, no, it's close though setting something on fire was just Like

her dog her Benji or her her guinea pig engulfed.

John Maino

Yeah engulfed.

But yeah, there's another word something but it's the word that they used to use when the monks the Buddhist monks in Vietnam would set themselves on fire.

There's a term for that Remember that to death

Yeah, I know I'm

just saying

John Maino

though.

There's a word for it.

We'll get to it So people say it's a three-way tie somebody else says this is the most shocking thing I've ever heard Jim turned down money

Now that is funny

That is really funny.

I tell these great, these traumatic stories and that's the one thing they got out of it.

That

John Maino

the guy

offered you money and you didn't take it.

That's true.

John Maino

Okay, what do you got?

So the dog lived and Jim chose to sit around in a parking lot instead of taking the drive to Appleton to get immediate care.

Okay, I knew somebody may say that.

If you listen to the details, it was a snowy night.

And by the time I think I would have got to Appleton to their emergency pet center, I think it may have, it was kind of a tie.

Okay.

All right.

So that's why I thought I would take the one.

And then after masks, because the kids had a serve, like 10, 30, 11, we went back there.

To see them?

Okay.

All right,

John Maino

but he survived and he was fine.

We're not fine.

He had been here.

We'd never leave the house again,

right?

And he would sleep under the table.

He didn't want a car driving over him.

Yeah.

You know,

John Maino

just stay out of cardboard boxes there, Baker.

I'm just saying.

Wait a minute.

I know he's.

Wait a minute.

What was that?

What was the hamster's name or the guinea pig?

was it big Benji Benji Benji was the hamster okay because Baker is funny

John Maino

I know oh

no

that oh my god

John Maino

see sometimes I feel bad

yeah twisted twist yes

John Maino

that he would normally not go places yeah

And then we bring them into those places.

All right, we gotta lift this up a little bit.

We're gonna reboot here.

Yeah.

Happy Trucker Thursday to you, coming in on 97.9 FM WGBW, 98.3, 96.5 FM WISS, and of course the Civic Media app along with the 1100 AM and 1590 AM, where your Milwaukee Brewers got themselves the win on WISS yesterday, knocking off the Tigers.

That was a nice win for them.

Forecast today.

Uh, cloudy with showers, high in the mid to upper fifties.

Take it.

Oh, yeah.

Absolutely.

Um, what's going on today?

National, there's, there's the term.

Immolation.

Right, Todd?

Yeah, I believe so.

Immolation.

Wow.

John Maino

Self-immolation.

That's what the monks used to do in Vietnam.

Thanks, TJ and Oshkosh.

Okay.

Thank you, TJ.

John Maino

Okay, but I don't

think that's appropriate for this because

it, that,

John Maino

I think self-immolation is like suicide.

Benji didn't do it himself.

Right.

Yes.

Your sister.

Encouraged it.

No, no, no.

Nothing.

She's sleeping.

She facilitated it.

She had nothing to do with it.

She

John Maino

was sleeping

by

John Maino

brothers.

Who put the box

in the fireplace?

I don't think it was me.

I'm sure it was one of my other four guys.

Which was?

It wasn't me.

That's all I know.

And I think it was... Okay,

this is what I think.

Sounds like shaggy.

It wasn't

me.

No, this is what I think.

Okay.

So the next morning, we're having breakfast.

John Maino

Where's the energy?

Christmas morning?

Yes.

Christmas morning.

Where's Benji?

Who asked that?

I think one of my sisters is, you know, we're just, where's Benji?

John Maino

I'm not trying to interrogate.

No, no.

I was trying to get some information.

Benji, where's Benji?

Who asked that first question?

Who's in the

living room?

Where's Benji?

Where's Benji?

And then my dad looks over at us.

I'm like, oh.

So, but I think my brother, my younger brother, felt the worst.

He's the one who took, got the shoebox and took the carcass.

to the priest.

John Maino

So I would think it was him.

Was there even a carcass left at that point?

Yeah.

Or was it just

John Maino

bones?

Well, that is a carcass.

But

John Maino

yeah, I

think it was, but it was, you could, you know, that's what it was.

Wow.

John Maino

What did the priest do?

I didn't go.

You didn't go.

No, I go to the funeral.

Okay.

Wait

John Maino

a, I sure got that one.

It's made a donation.

Okay.

That's a nice light of candle.

Okay.

Recorder it.

And somebody take it out because you don't deserve.

Yeah.

All right.

So national high five day.

You know, it's funny.

I was watching a thing on from like the 70s of football, college football thing.

And you want to know guys that look dorky and at the time thought looked really cool was when, yeah, I don't know.

I can think of it.

Well, I'm going to say, white guys trying to back us up when they were trying to do the because it was the slap of the hand.

Oh, yeah,

John Maino

yeah,

yeah,

John Maino

yeah.

Right.

And two white.

But that wasn't always a thing high-five no not at all.

I mean that was

But thank God the high five came around so it didn't have that stupid two-hand put your hands out type thing.

National kickball day, love kickball.

I remember they started up some leagues around here.

Didn't really last too

long.

No, they tried

John Maino

though.

I know.

I give them credit.

Because you know what's kind of fun?

I went to one one night.

They said, hey, come on up.

And they had like a bonfire.

And people would sit around the bonfire and then go play and stuff.

But like 30 people.

Yeah.

You know?

John Maino

Yeah.

That was that was a fun.

That was a fun

John Maino

sport.

I wish I do kick bone dodgeball are still two greatest things.

This guy's like a gym class when

they were first, but when they tried to do a league, right?

John Maino

Yeah.

Yeah.

And this guy's like, oh, he came to my office and you come and promote

this

thing.

And I'm like, yeah, I'll come to that thing because, OK, you know, we're really looking to get this thing going.

And so I went there and I walked in there and I thought, am I that early?

Because I'm never early for stuff.

And you know, there was

I'm

telling you, maybe.

Eight people there, guys, come over here.

Would you mind keeping

score?

I'll tell you, there are some leagues coming to Titletown this fall.

Oh, really?

That is great.

There's nothing better than the sound.

We need to get

John Maino

a

team.

Well,

John Maino

I actually did a tournament one

time.

I

John Maino

hosted a tournament at Joannys.

It was a big tournament at

Joannys.

That is where they started, but it caught on.

I think it was the first game it did, but it did catch on, but it didn't.

John Maino

I know, it didn't keep getting traction.

Yeah, I agree.

I would play in that, Todd.

I think we need to put together a team.

That is not that hard to play.

No,

John Maino

I'm in.

Todd, you in?

I would try that.

The running thing with my knee.

I don't know if I could do

John Maino

that.

Well, I

John Maino

might I might get a you could get a designated runner, I think.

OK, but you can there's like bunting in there and there's like,

John Maino

oh, don't

know.

John Maino

Come on.

You would not bunt in kickball, Jim.

Todd.

You know what I don't want to we're having a nice day, so I don't want to

go you know, whatever

John Maino

It's the attitude aspect of it people give me a comment to say to Jim in response to him saying yes I want to play on your kickball team because I'm gonna but

I just that

John Maino

was a

I'm just

John Maino

saying what's the

goal, John?

What's the goal?

John Maino

To be athletic.

No, the goal is to get on first.

Wow.

John Maino

You know who you would not be able to play for you the bananas Have you see ever since that story on 60 minutes the other day I bet it they've gone insane forget about getting them up here.

Yeah, I bet they are

The reason I thought maybe we would have a long shot is cuz lamblefield because that's

John Maino

an iconic and you know what before that thing on 60 minutes We may have we would have probably had them now Wow, they're like the hottest thing going ins I mean ESPN is all over them now.

Oh

And now if you guys saw this or just look it up, the Savannah Bananas, it was a minor league baseball team and they decided just going a different direction.

That was like bankrupt.

And nobody was going to the games and they were like, there's boring and

yeah.

That is such a great business story.

John Maino

I just

love it.

He should write a book and that is really, really a good story.

And I just love.

is the research he did, you know, when do people leave, when do they look at their watch and, you know, what makes

John Maino

absolutely

and that just

John Maino

our first one here.

Thank you.

Whoever did this, Todd.

Brian.

Brian, thank you for this.

OK, well, it's interviewing prospective players for our kickball team that we're putting together for this fall.

Right.

Hi, Jim.

First question.

Have you ever in any way, shape, or form been involved in burning an animal alive?

Brian, come on.

OK, that's the answer.

No

John Maino

question.

I

would just.

Yes or no question?

I don't recall.

John Maino

Yes or no question?

Get the tape.

John Maino

Check

the

John Maino

tape.

Help me out here, folks, with more questions I should ask as I vet people for our kickball team.

But

going out, like the Packer baseball, what do they call that?

Aren't you hosting something like that?

Like what?

The NFL, aren't you doing a game after the NFL draft?

No.

Football, I thought you were doing something

John Maino

about that.

Oh, the flag football.

Yeah.

Oh, OK.

John Maino

Yeah.

OK.

What I'm saying is that and that that Donald Driver baseball.

Yeah.

That softball.

That OK, that Savannah banana.

Yeah.

I hope more leagues start up because that is family entertainment.

It's

entertainment.

And it's two hours, which is cool.

It's not like you're there all day.

Sometimes baseball can go too long.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I just hope if we can't get them here, which you're probably right, if a league starts up, that could be a whole lot of fun because.

They're still athletic.

It's

John Maino

still they got to be great baseball players.

I mean most of those guys had played professional baseball,

right?

John Maino

I mean like minor league or college They're all really great baseball players first

on that guy.

It's still set.

Yeah,

John Maino

it's amazing.

I got next one This is from Nancy as far as my vetting process for the kickball team.

Okay, Jim.

Okay.

Hi Jim great having you here first question Jim have you ever purposefully and ruthlessly demolished?

mall these are just the people I'm just I'm just you know

okay

John Maino

have you ever demolished a national landmark in your old hometown okay please help me out here folks for the the vetting process for our kickball team and let us know if you're interested it is auctioneers day

Force Mustang day great dare day D. A. R. E. I've spoken a lot of those banquets I told you about that one time.

I'm not gonna say where I

Shopped I

John Maino

shop to speak of the dare program and Now this hey John.

I we're so sorry.

We should have gotten a hold of you this morning We're canceling it for today.

Oh, I'm sorry some run Don't say anything The dare officer got DUI last night True story not gonna say where

You're

Kathryn Lake

listening to Civic Media.

John Maino

Love way than Jennings.

Love way than Jennings.

Love way than Jennings.

The bananas are the globetrotters.

Do they need another team?

Yeah, I don't know who, you know, because they had the Washington Nationals, you know, that would always play them against them.

Right.

I don't know exactly who they played.

Yeah.

Well, didn't you say Chicago's gonna be like firefighters or something?

But they bring their.

I don't

John Maino

know if they bring another team.

I

don't know.

No, no, but that's the majority of the majority of their opponents are their team, but I'm sure they bring in some other people, right?

I don't know.

I really, I honestly don't know.

Oh, cause they, they couldn't do all those.

John Maino

Well, the other people wouldn't be able to do all those things.

Right.

So I'm saying that.

That's what I mean.

Do they have a Washington nationals type of thing?

I would

John Maino

say yes.

Or general, was it then general, Washington generals?

I think was it?

John Maino

I would

say yes.

But what I'm thinking is maybe there's two or three of.

Real people a real firefighters are real yeah, but no the majority of them are gonna be there part of the act I would think yeah those guys the way they throw the way they oh god.

That's yeah some funny stuff

John Maino

Yeah, uh prize package for the best question somebody gives me today in regards to when I interview people in regards to being on my kickball team Yep, it's here give us give a top thing when you get a name.

It would Todd's got Todd's got the names Oh name for our team.

Do we have a name to get a name for our team

Todd?

Hmm

How many people are on a kickball team?

I don't even know.

Is it nine?

John Maino

Well, I've got one position for everybody.

Maybe 10.

You know, it's like slow pitch softball.

We have that rover.

I would think nine.

Minimum, obviously, nine.

We'll talk about that later.

But a name, though.

We do need a

name.

We need a name for our team and uniforms.

Got it.

This says typically 10.

Minimum eight.

Okay.

Outstanding.

All right.

We're doing

John Maino

this.

We're doing this.

Is it

like a parks?

League thing or as you know, do you know it?

It's gonna be on their football field title town.

That's all I know that's doing it.

John Maino

That'd be cool.

That's gonna be fun.

John Maino

I'd be very fun Yeah, all right, cool.

All right.

We'll put

John Maino

the name for a kickball help us out on this people.

We need some help Ford Mustang day.

I was never I'm a classic car enthusiast never got into the Mustangs until the later years like the more the fastbacks the mocked fours or whatever was really

classic ones.

That's

John Maino

I think of that as a chick car

Like the 65 Mustang I think is a I shouldn't say the word check it Oh, that's I'm sorry, but that's just the generic term of you know the cool No, I don't think so young ladies back then used to drive them.

I don't think so really I

Don't see that.

No, I think that's

John Maino

see I see guys because that was the in-between muscle car sort of thing right because then the GTO Yeah, those things came out.

I'll give you the Ford Mustang in the early days were kind of like a cute muscle car.

I always thought

no

When I let you say it I never it's the first time I'm hearing that that's a cute one.

I like I like the old Mustangs.

I think

John Maino

those are Okay, Jill that's not funny John are you willing to put a basket on your bike there you go?

Okay, I think that's a great question.

I think that's a

John Maino

great

Joe, you know what I would say?

I would say you're on the team because that shows you're an athlete.

Because that shows you're an athlete that you'll carry your glove, your basketball, your football, your kicking team, your fishing tackle, your knife.

On the basket.

John Maino

In the basket.

Your rock hammer, your metal detector, all the cool things that guys did in my era.

That would be what they would carry them in.

So, Joe, you're on the team.

OK.

You're on the team.

Cool.

John Maino

Love it.

I got this one.

I had a 73 Z 28 Camaro when I was 16 Gail.

Okay, Gail, you were the coolest girl in town.

How did you have a Z when you were 16 years old, Gail?

Yeah, what'd you dad do?

John Maino

Yeah.

Wow.

It's your last name, Bergstrom?

Yeah, I don't even know.

Steve McQueen there called Mustang in the movie Bullet, says Chuck, which was a great movie, by the way.

Great, great movie.

You know, I saw Steve McQueen in person one time, but he wouldn't do interviews.

I wrote America.

Yep,

John Maino

wrote

America.

John Maino

Yeah, I gotta tell you something.

You know, we talked about wrote America, it's just kind of, you would have, if you found a way to get into the infield of wrote America and you walk around there, you will see people.

It's like, oh my God, you know what that is?

That is a sport of the superstars.

Yeah.

I mean, what it was that horse race, the sport of kings or whatever.

That formula racing and everything man.

Wow.

Is that the that is who

yeah, they're advertising that again build confidence in your Kid, you know I would that driving a

John Maino

buddy mind He wants you to come to his school.

I know that is Pete Stoltz, but they I thought that was more like he's right He wants you his text to me.

Yeah, please tell Jim.

We want him to come to our and I'd

like

John Maino

to

I thought it was more like, you know

Bucket list thing, but they're they've kind of shifted their their marketing a little bit to get used confidence in driving that Road America track.

John Maino

Isn't that cool?

Yeah, I drove it one time for a Corvette convention.

They had me really and that'd be fun But you know what I had never driven a Corvette before okay, and it was kind of a

Drizzly sort of day a little bit.

Holy cow.

I mean, we couldn't open them up at all because you go around those hairpin turns and it's a little bit wet at Road America And I'd never driven a Corvette before I didn't know that where the power comes from or just wants to throw you out like that way

Yeah,

John Maino

so but it was so fun.

Just driving around that guy.

We're gonna get a hold of my buddy.

Yeah, who runs the racing school at Road America

I just

saw an

John Maino

ad

for that.

I remember

John Maino

Lindy and Fonte went through it

back in the

John Maino

day.

Yeah.

And we talked to the guy.

I thought, Jim, you were going to do that.

I was.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I booked a room and everything, but something came up.

But I would like to do that.

That is a bucket list thing for me.

Donna said she gave me the green light.

So yeah,

I'm going

to do it.

I'm going to do it.

Yeah, go ahead Jim.

Just making sure the life insurance policy.

John Maino

Just be careful.

We clean up on Christmas morning.

Bad appreciation.

Are you talking like the flying bats?

That's what I thought.

I hate them so much.

I knew you would.

I hate bats so much.

I would eradicate bats.

No, no, no.

We need them.

We need them.

There's a big, everybody says that.

Then when you learn about me, I'm like, oh my gosh, boy, do we need those things in the circle of life.

John Maino

Don't need them.

Hmm.

It's illegal to kill bats, so I'm not encouraging people to do that, but if you do I'm not turning Victoria Beckham Jennifer Gardner 53 boomerous science in 64 look

at that great name for a

John Maino

flying fossil says Kyle Kyle you're in the lead Kyle Kyle you're in the lead give us a little name for art Well, you know the fossil what we'll talk okay?
