John & Gordy · Mon Oct 20, 2025

John Peterson

In a world filled with chaos and confusion, in an echo chamber filled with lies and deception, comes a ray of light.

Live from Madison, Wisconsin, it's John and Gordy in the morning on 92.7 WMDX.

Gordy Young

WMDX.

Happy Monday.

I need 2.7.

It's a big, big first Monday after the No Kings rallies in March.

This is just, I mean, it was something else.

It really was something to see.

And a lot of great speakers at the Capitol on Saturday.

And one of the most surprising speakers was, I think, a pastor.

and now judge who got up there and gave a incredibly, incredibly inspiring speech.

Just unbelievable.

You know, I was checking out the newscasts and, you know, there were some TV stations there recording some of this stuff.

Now, one had a clip of this guy.

And I'm thinking, wow, this is like, you know, this is like the ML King Junior thing, you know.

Yeah, you don't want to miss this.

But, uh, and then of course I had the big idea, well, why don't I just walk over to that guy and say, you want to say what you said right here on our radio airwaves, right?

Did you do that?

Did you walk up to him?

No, I was embarrassed.

I didn't want to bother

John Peterson

him.

So you.

I know.

Why are you afraid to approach people like that?

Gordy Young

What what's what holds you back?

I you know, I did that with Paul Sogner.

I know I did that with John Nichols not John Nichols Me you've

John Peterson

known

Gordy Young

him

John Peterson

forever.

Gordy Young

I know I mean he was there He was there at the No Kings thing and I didn't say anything to him.

I didn't want to bother, you know, I didn't make

John Peterson

it I was still busy packing and moving stuff

So I couldn't make the rally.

Gordy Young

Well, I know it's not important to you.

I went to the first one.

I was there in spirit.

I know you were.

But I just know you.

My back is killing me.

So, you know.

Yeah, sure.

Yeah, every little excuse.

Oh, well,

John Peterson

you didn't go to the first one, right?

Gordy Young

I don't remember.

I don't remember giving you a bunch

John Peterson

of crap about missing the first one.

I'm

Gordy Young

not giving you

John Peterson

crap.

Gordy Young

It's fine.

You have a lot of stuff to unpack.

I get it.

You don't have to show up for this real wide protest.

John Peterson

Moving from the east side of Madison to the west side of Madison when there's tons of traffic

Gordy Young

and

John Peterson

protests going on.

It's

Gordy Young

not the easiest thing in the world.

No, it isn't.

You got caught in that.

Um, yeah, it's something else.

It was really, uh, just really inspiring, a great, great look.

And, uh, we're, you know, featuring that obviously today.

So we've, we've got cut after cut after cut.

We've

John Peterson

got

Gordy Young

point after point after point.

Uh, there are a lot of, um,

bad things on the right that they would like to present to the American public and deceive everybody.

We'll get into that as well.

You know, I don't know.

It seems to me that we're kind of treading water here.

You know, we do all these protests.

You know, I had Matt fill an interview one day and I asked Matt, I said, don't you think all these protests are a little...

Eh, not a big deal anymore.

I mean, isn't it gotten old?

It's like, you know, same shame, shame, shame.

You know, I hear that.

I just want to crawl into a wholesome place and say, God, just end this, please.

You know, we

John Peterson

can't come up

Gordy Young

with

Troy (caller)

a better

Gordy Young

word than shame.

We've been saying that for the last 50 or 60 years.

Stop it.

At least.

Oh my God.

No wonder people are tired of the Democrats.

Look, I

John Peterson

heard you discussing all this with Matt Rothschild, and I thought he had a good comeback for it.

I mean, didn't it give you a sense of bonding with your fellow human beings out there while you were protesting and, you know, seeing the crowd there?

Wasn't that inspiring and the speakers that you talked about there?

Well, I'm glad you brought that

Gordy Young

up.

Yes, of course, I was in tears after he explained to me.

No, actually, it wasn't so much the bonding with protesters.

John Peterson

It

Gordy Young

was the different ways people do protest in other countries that really inspired me.

Like in France, that really impressed me where he shut down the entire economy.

John Peterson

Well, that's what they're saying maybe should happen here, but it's really hard to do that, apparently.

Yeah.

For unions and some other, I mean, they

I'm not exactly sure, but why they

We'd have a problem just shutting everything down for a couple of days

Gordy Young

to

John Peterson

get their attention.

I mean,

Gordy Young

Trump has done a damn good job of that already.

I mean, you know, personally, you know, why do it again?

Yeah.

I mean, prices are just outrageous at this point.

I don't know why, you know, the needle hasn't moved on inflation very much.

It's just or the needle hasn't moved on unemployment very much.

I don't know what is going on.

You know, you remove 350,000 federal workers and.

700 more and then 700,000 more and then you're sitting here, but the needle hasn't moved for unemployment.

I don't know maybe Those numbers really not anymore.

I don't I mean well, of course, you know, he's fired everybody that delivers those numbers now We don't even get the numbers anymore right and inflation is way up as far as I'm concerned You go to this grocery store prices are right through the roof right gas prices are down a little bit.

Yeah gas prices have really

Hold their own.

Yeah, although I noticed because I have a V yeah, I have an EV folks so You know it's still pinch me I must be dreaming I have an EV Get your electric bill Then we'll talk well the electricians bill first.

Dom Lee

Yeah,

Gordy Young

that that's gonna

Dom Lee

be still no issues with the charging station Everything's still good.

Oh, it turns beautifully the first

Gordy Young

time.

Yeah, that's good.

Dom Lee

Yeah

Dom, how was your weekend?

It was good.

I have a crazy story to tell.

Oh, uh-oh.

Stand by.

Do we have

John Peterson

music for this?

We

Dom Lee

have some crazy story music.

There we go.

Bring me out of flashback.

But I'd say on Friday, I went to a concert.

I went to Cage the Elfin concert right here in Madison at the Sylvie.

Oh, OK.

Yeah.

Into the Sylvie.

That's a good group.

Beautiful, beautiful.

Yeah, standing room, right?

Yeah, standing room.

And I got front row.

I was standing right in the front row.

Wow.

And 10 minutes go by.

Next thing you know, I'm on the floor.

I passed out.

Oh, what?

Yeah,

John Peterson

I passed out.

Dom Lee

I woke up.

Everyone was looking at me,

John Peterson

and I was like, what

Dom Lee

is going on?

John Peterson

This is a

Dom Lee

true story.

And I got some water.

They took some vitals.

I got out of the Sylvie.

And then next thing you know, I went right back in, and I finished the concert.

Gordy Young

Well, what

Dom Lee

were you drinking?

What was the cause of it?

I don't think I was dehydrated.

I didn't have enough water beforehand.

And it was just too many crowds of people.

It was too hot.

So

Gordy Young

everybody's looking over you.

You're on the floor.

You wake up.

Suddenly you're there and you're thinking, oh my god.

Yeah.

Did you tell everybody right away that you're from WMDX?

No, that

Dom Lee

was not on my mind.

I just know where I was.

Gordy Young

Hey, I'm from WMDX.

I'll talk about this Sunday.

Dom Lee

Check it out if you dare.

Yes, that's what I should have said, but oh man.

So you really just fainted?

I just fainted.

I just fainted.

And you know, people were like, my girlfriend was looking over me like she was scared to death.

Yeah.

Wow.

Yeah.

Yeah.

They

John Peterson

bring out the smelling salts and

Dom Lee

everything.

They bring out no-selling.

They do those anymore.

Does that ever work?

I

John Peterson

don't

Dom Lee

know.

Do they used to do that?

Is that

Gordy Young

a real

Dom Lee

thing?

I think so.

Gordy Young

I'd say yes.

It's a real thing.

I think they smell something else out there now, you know?

Dom Lee

That's not salt, that's for sure.

But it was so embarrassing.

It was just embarrassing for me.

I thought it was just, you know, everyone was watching me.

Did they carry you out or were you able to walk out on your own?

I was able to walk out on my own, but I was just in a date.

I didn't know really where I was.

How long were you out?

I was out probably for 30 seconds, 20, 30 seconds.

Why do you assume dehydration?

I just didn't drink any water the entire day.

Wow.

And so I think that kind of answered the question.

That works

Gordy Young

for me.

Dom Lee

Was it stuffy in there?

It was really hot in there.

And really, it was just... That'll relish.

That'll relish.

John Peterson

And I'm not

Dom Lee

the biggest of guys.

I'm not the tallest of guys, so I can barely see over people.

And I'm just feeling congested.

The next thing you know, I just...

Gordy Young

Very compact

Dom Lee

in there.

Yeah, yeah.

Luckily, someone helped me up as I was falling.

But you're okay.

Gordy Young

Yeah.

That's tiring.

You

Dom Lee

know,

Gordy Young

you stand there for a long period of time waiting for the group to come out, right?

Dom Lee

It's

Gordy Young

really tight in there.

You don't want to lose your place.

Yeah.

And, you know, and...

I don't know what it is, but I also had a problem drinking water.

I never, I rarely drank any water growing up.

I really didn't.

I just didn't.

It was like, oh, I didn't see a need to.

And that's really a dumb dumb reason the best thing to do is drink a lot of water almost of the time not a tremendous amount just Just enough you know Dom if you feel like passing out, you

John Peterson

know, give us a give us the high sign.

Gordy Young

Yes.

Be

John Peterson

sure to leave our microphones on so we can describe what's happening Let's go to the phones.

We've got an early morning call here from Troy.

Hey Troy.

Good morning.

How's it going?

Troy (caller)

Hey, how's it going?

John Peterson

Good

Troy (caller)

What's happening to me at a packer game?

John Peterson

Hmm

Troy (caller)

Wow.

And for me, it was blood pressure.

Oh, that'll do.

Yeah, when I went up to the, uh, uh, the booth, uh, the medical booth and my blood pressure was 200 over something.

John Peterson

So it's dangerous.

Troy (caller)

From, from cheering, I guess.

Yeah.

Gordy Young

Yeah.

Wow.

Well, maybe you

Troy (caller)

just had too many brats.

No, no, I try not to either drink at the stadium because.

I'm not that rich.

Oh.

Rices are outrageous.

Yeah.

Yeah.

It's crazy.

Yeah.

So, but yeah, I remember thinking, don't fall forward because I could feel myself.

John Peterson

Yeah.

Troy (caller)

Yeah.

Right.

Kind of.

And I remember thinking, don't fall forward, don't fall forward.

And I fell forward anyway.

Oh, no.

You could just like, yeah.

Dom Lee

You just know what's going to happen.

That's what it was for me.

I just

Troy (caller)

knew it

Dom Lee

was

Troy (caller)

going to happen.

Exactly.

Yeah.

So did

Gordy Young

you injure your face or anything like that when you fell

Troy (caller)

forward?

No, I fell on the guy in front of me and they're all mad.

They thought I was drunk.

Of course they did.

I haven't been drinking.

I've got my 14-year-old kid with me.

Gordy Young

Well, I never stopped a lot of people.

Troy (caller)

Well, that's true.

Gordy Young

Boy.

Very true.

Well, that's a that's a good story Troy.

I mean at least at the Packers, you know, you got something to brag about but this guy right here just goes to a concert and falls

Dom Lee

over.

There was nothing.

Yeah.

All right, Troy.

It was the band again.

Yeah.

Gordy Young

It was called Cage the L. Cage the L. Thanks.

Thanks Troy.

That

John Peterson

was a fantastic

Gordy Young

story.

John Peterson

I appreciate that.

So you may be you may be having trouble with your computer.

Are you having any trouble with your computer this morning?

I am not.

No, because the Amazon cloud.

based computing services had some sort of problem after midnight and there were a lot of things affected but apparently everything is coming back online now.

Gordy Young

It's kind of weird because you never thought that Prime would have their tentacles out so far and wide.

You know, Amazon is everywhere apparently, AT&T, Canva, Delta Airlines, Disney Plus, Fortnite, Hulu, McDonald's, Pokemon, Roblox, Snapchat and United.

Airlines and all of them affected by the server outage.

I would assume from Amazon.

So, uh, yeah.

Yeah, something else coming back

John Peterson

online.

Yeah.

Coinbase and something else for Plexity.

Those are somehow connected with crypto

Gordy Young

currency.

So they think this may be

John Peterson

a

some sort of a cyber attack,

but

he, but everything seems to be getting back online.

All right, it's 19 minutes past the hour.

We're just getting going on a Monday morning.

John Peterson, Gordy Young, along with Dom Lee, our producer.

Pam Yocke's right around the corner.

We'll talk to her next.

Stay with us.

Gordy

I am traveling up deep to the land of the under 21 bars.

I'm going to cheese land, cheese land.

The Dales and Door County, I'm going to cheese land.

The grill of our cheese here.

John

Yeah, you bet.

John and Gordy in the morning, WMDX 92.7.

Mm-hmm.

It's a it's a chilly start this morning

Weather Reporter

36 degrees There were maybe some areas of frost a little bit farther to the north 67 are expected high for today mostly sunny skies and maybe rain on the way for tonight Let's check in with Pam Yaki the fabulous farm babe from the Midwest food and farm report.

Good morning, Pam

Pam Yaki

Yeah, good morning guys.

I say a little frost on the punk in this morning I you guys I haven't been outside for a little while, but I think we hit Probably hit our coolest since I went into the office this morning like I think about an hour ago probably about as cold as we're gonna get overnight but

John

a

Pam Yaki

lot of folks this morning checking in with me that they got a little frost

John

Yikes, I know we've got our basil outside yet.

We're worried

We hope that that has survived this morning anyway, because it's going to warm up again in the next couple of days here.

So well today, but

Pam Yaki

the wind is going to wind is going to be noticeable.

That's one thing we're going to.

I think the wind is going to take a little of that temp down, you know, as far as what it feels like.

John

Yeah.

Hey, look, you know, I want to get into the pumpkin thing, but we got to talk at least a little bit about the Packers and how about.

the kicker oh my god a record with all the great kickers that the Packers have had throughout the entire you know expanse of the team this one guy comes in his second time starting and he kicks the record what a field goal

Yeah.

Pam Yaki

Come

John

on.

Pam Yaki

He's got an interesting.

Did anybody else notice his gesture?

He does something with his right hand.

Like, it must just be, you know, they all got their quirks.

Gordy

Yeah.

And

Pam Yaki

he uses something with his right hand.

He makes a gesture every time he's going to kick, but I don't care.

Whatever he's got to do.

Yeah, I'm glad that we've got him.

I was not real confident.

When you put the game on the line with a guy, like you said, that's only been out there twice.

It's like, uh, okay.

But he's holding on.

Good.

John

I think he's probably become a member of the team at this point, you know?

I mean, sometimes you come in and you just replace the person who's there and Brett Farve did that and, you know, Mikowski did that.

Pam Yaki

I'm surprised.

Realistically, they could have grabbed baggage claim.

Did you hear what happened?

They got held up in Green Bay at Austin Strable because the plane that carried the floor and the players had a mechanical.

So they had to fly another plane in from Detroit.

Now, what I would love to see, and I hope somebody gets it, I would love to see the cameras from inside Austin Strable airfield because the floor decided to do a walkthrough with the whole team.

at the airport while they waited for the plane to come in because they couldn't leave

Gordy

really

Pam Yaki

and get back.

So they did a walkthrough because they weren't going to be able to get to Arizona in time to do it.

And if you've ever been in Austin Strable airfield, I mean, Dane County looks like a palatial

John

space

Pam Yaki

compared to Austin.

I've been to Austin Strable.

I don't know where in the world they found enough space for that many people to be spread out.

I don't know if they had to do calls around the carousel or what

Gordy

the world

Pam Yaki

they did, because it was just not that

John

big.

Well, I didn't hear about that.

That's, uh, wow.

A nail biter, pretty much.

All right,

Pam Yaki

well, three hours late, I think.

John

Well, why don't we get to, I think, really an important issue for farmers is the Affordable Care Act.

And what's going on with that?

You know, the Democrats are trying to get the tax credits passed by the Republicans.

They want to hold off for a while and maybe pass it, maybe not, probably not.

But it's really important for the farmers to get something like this, including Medicaid, by the way.

Pam Yaki

Right.

Yeah.

And this affordable care act is kind of something that came in in 2010.

And really, it has cast a lifeline for a lot of Wisconsin farms to be able to afford health insurance.

Remember, farmers help to self-insure, unlike you and I who may have a company that's kind of, even if it's not a great.

health care policy at least it's something farmers have got to try to do that themselves.

And what I know from growing up on the farm and being in the farm arena is usually they have to buy what they can afford, which means an incredibly high deductible.

Basically, you're only going to the doctor if your limb is hanging off.

And that's not much of a health care package, if you know what I mean.

So the Affordable Care Act gave them some options in the marketplace.

And now last week, Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin had a virtual roundtable, one of the

folks or one of the group it was the Wisconsin Farmers says that she's been getting family farms and a lot of say they're expecting the double next year.

If t don't stay in place.

B Wisconsin residents, she figure will at least see the probably another 30,000 so that

if the affordable care act goes away.

So

Gordy

it

Pam Yaki

is a big deal.

And like I said, I know from personal experience, that is one of the biggest expenses on the farm.

And you know, if you're young, you got to have it for the kids and that type of thing.

But oh, everybody, every farm, almost every farm you talk to is one major health incident away from bankruptcy.

I

John

mean,

Pam Yaki

it's just that precarious.

This is something that a lot of farm families are watching.

John

When I was doing the census, I talked to a lot of farmers and sometimes, you know, their bottom line would be

will almost nothing or they'd have a loss that year because they have a net income that they have to adjust for and then they get Medicaid and then of course Medicaid is going away after the next election conveniently of course and that'll be a big problem for them as well so we'll have to keep our eye on their healthcare needs.

Weather Reporter

Pam we got less than a minute left but can you tell us a little bit about the Wisconsin Giant Pumpkin Growers Club?

What's this all about?

Pam Yaki

Yeah, it's something that I bet a lot of people didn't know about.

We found out about it.

Oh, probably a few years back and these people are stone cold serious about giant pumpkins.

They they covet their own recipes on how they grow their pumpkins.

Let's just leave it at this fellas until we can talk again this year.

The giant pumpkin was weighed in up in El Tuna and that would have been about a couple of weeks ago.

This year's winner 2,491 pounds and that's not even a

Oh

Weather Reporter

my god.

Pam Yaki

That's not even a record.

I

Weather Reporter

know.

That's

Pam Yaki

amazing.

That's not

Weather Reporter

even a

Pam Yaki

record.

Pam, we gotta run.

Thank

John

you.

We'll talk

Pam Yaki

more about that later.

John

Say hello to Ben for us as well.

Talk to you Friday.

Pam Yaki

Okay.

John

Coming

Pam Yaki

back

Gordy

with Inauguracy next.

John

Human evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence with no natural predators within the herd.

Oh my god!

There is a place without boundaries.

A place without limits.

Welcome to Costco.

I love you.

A place that is about to be... violated.

Idiocracy.

For the smartest guy in the world, you're pretty dumb sometimes.

Gordy

Oh yeah.

Good morning.

92.7 WMDX.

It's John and Gordy in the morning.

6.36 now and mainly clear skies this morning but chilly temperatures.

We're in the mid 30s across

John

southern

Gordy

Wisconsin.

We'll get into the upper 60s and then it gets windy late in the day.

Maybe some rain tonight and then it's going to cool down for the rest of the week.

It is.

Yeah.

I thought we had at least a couple of days.

Nope.

Just one warm day today.

All right, then we're back in like upper 40s or low 50s tomorrow.

John Peterson

Yeah.

Well, you know, I've got John Peterson's feel like weather forecast.

Did you check

Gordy

out?

I just make

John Peterson

stuff up.

What about the sunrise and the sunset?

Gordy

We didn't check that.

I can always

John Peterson

provide accurate information when it comes to that from the WMDX Samsung watch.

Right.

You know, my maker friend in Milwaukee said, are you getting paid for?

Plugging the Samsung watch.

No, no, no money.

No, no George Soros money either Sunrise 717 this morning and sunset about six minutes past six o'clock.

Okay.

Yeah Earlier and earlier one of these days will have daylight same-in-time and And we'll have to fall

Gordy

forward.

I think it happens in a couple of weeks

In our next hour, Paul Soglin will join us, former Madison mayor.

He'll be here in about an hour.

All right.

Well, that sounds exciting, doesn't it?

It's always great to have Paul.

You know, we're going to ask him about his book he's been working on for years and years.

He had it up to 900 pages at one point, but

I think they've been editing it.

Look, that

John Peterson

guy hosted so many protests here in Madison.

Right?

We got to ask him about the No Kings protests.

Gordy

Exactly.

John Peterson

So we'll definitely check that out, okay?

Get his thoughts.

All right.

I want to get to something before we get to all of that and we'll start talking about the No Kings protest at about, oh, I don't know, about 56.

I know 52, right?

Gordy

Yeah, 52.

John Peterson

Yeah.

652.

Okay,

Gordy

I'll write that down.

I didn't know that.

Okay.

John Peterson

I'm not quite sure how to promote that, but I just did it that way.

All right, that's our clock here in the morning.

So anyway, we'll get to all of that stuff and more.

And by the way, I want to thank Larry out in Deerfield for the recording.

Uh, that, uh, it, it is, uh,

Gordy

the person you, you were talking about a speaker that was exceptional.

John Peterson

Yeah.

Gordy

And his name, he

John Peterson

just knocked everybody out.

It was Everett Mitchell.

Gordy

He's a judge

John Peterson

now.

In fact, this was a day before his judgeship and he was just something else.

And Larry's provided the audio for that.

We'll go through that maybe today, but probably tomorrow.

All right.

Okay, we'll go through it.

It was a longer speed, so I don't necessarily think we should take up almost all of the program, but we'll get to some of the highlights, and I appreciate that, Larry, very much.

Now let's get to something that really is a...

just a very scary thing for me.

It's this turning point USA chapters and in our grade schools and middle schools and high schools.

I'm not happy about this at all.

I saw a video of a little girl in her classes.

I would assume this is elementary and she was talking about people she admired and that was Charlie Kirk.

and had a little video presentation in the classroom, which just scared the daylights out.

I mean, she is unaware of what Charlie Kirk really stood for, sadly, anyway.

Radio mega Dan O'Donnell, oh, I love that name, isn't it cool?

Trumpeted the news about Turning Point USA.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering.

wanted Turning Point USA in their school and they approved it.

Yes.

Now, they took a long time to come to that decision because they were insisting that Turning Point USA denounce their professor watch list before they even allowed Turning Point USA at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

And they never did.

They never got rid of the professor watch list.

that did was, it smeared professors, it doxxed them, and it created death threats to their families, harassment, and it resulted in a lot of these instructors quitting, going someplace else, or just basically getting fired.

This was devastating.

This Professor Watchlist was a devastating thing that Turning Point USA put in place.

And I guess, you know, we should honor Charlie Kirk for that?

No.

Gee, what a nice thing

Gordy

for him

John Peterson

to do, you know?

We're not supposed to dox people with masks abducting people off the street and pulling them out of their homes into unmarked vehicles.

Right.

But we certainly want to dox all of those professors out there educating our kids.

Which school?

Which school was this, eh?

This is the Milwaukee School of Engineering, MSOE.

And they finally acquiesced without getting rid of the Professor Watch List.

Gordy

Oh,

John Peterson

what?

And Dan O'Donnell morning radio guy, I think he's on the road nine o'clock in Milwaukee in the morning.

And he is very, very happy with this.

He's very, very confident that this will.

Change that school around a little bit.

Yeah Why why engineers care?

Gordy

I

John Peterson

don't know and why why they would want something like this.

I don't get it either

Gordy

Yeah, that's crazy.

John Peterson

This is you know for me You know putting these chapters up is like putting up a Confederate general statue

Gordy

somewhere on their on their campus, right?

John Peterson

Yeah, I mean who wants

Gordy

this stuff,

John Peterson

right?

Yeah

Why would you do that?

I don't know.

I don't know.

And Dan O'Donnell's honest thing, like glue, he thought this was a big gotcha.

This is a quote from him, every single Democrat in both the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, except one voted against a resolution condemning the assassination and honoring of the life of Charlie Kirk on what would have been his 32nd birthday.

Oh my gosh.

Nothing worse than this.

You worship who you want to worship.

Okay, Dan O'Donnell, please Someone divisive bigoted racist except for the colored people that liked them sexist and and you know Most can say about him Tom Tiffany is also on this by the way.

He's running for governor

It's getting a lot of press from me.

Really?

Well, yes.

I'm talking about him an awful lot.

Right?

I'm not getting to the Democratic candidates at all.

Come on, guys.

Start doing something controversial, okay?

Say something outrageous.

Let me, let me put it on the program here anyway.

Tom Tiffany is also circling around the drain with this comment.

This follows Gwen Moore voting no and Mark Buchan voting president in Congress.

Wisconsin deserves leaders who condemn political assassinations.

No, it's not the assassination.

They don't want to honor his life work.

OK, that's Tom Tiffany.

He doesn't get it, right?

Yeah, we support assassinations.

What is he talking about?

Anyway, that's Tom Tiffany is really a strange character.

Yes, he is.

He is.

Gordy

You've tracked him for a long time.

I have.

If you go to your website, demokermudgeon.blogspot.com, you have a you have a wealth of information about his historic career.

John Peterson

I do.

You just plug in his name.

Just put it in there.

And the first thing comes up is a summary of his life in the legislature.

I just sent Dan Schaefer a whole list of that,

John

and he really

John Peterson

appreciated that.

Go good.

All right.

Well, I did that with everybody.

You know, I have quite the history of almost everybody since the beginning of Scott Walker and on.

It's just all there.

Gordy

What's

John Peterson

that website again?

Oh, well, let me see.

It's demokermudgeon.org.

Well,

Gordy

that's why nobody ever visits it because they can't remember the name of it and then they can't spell it.

That's why

John Peterson

Kermitian was available.

Gordy

Real cheap.

Real cheap.

Yeah, it's a free website is what it is.

Hey, we want to mention there's something special going on at the Dane County Humane Society.

Let me just jump

John

in.

Oh, sure.

Because

Gordy

this is currently, I mean, this has just been happening the last few days or so.

There's a puppy that needs heart surgery.

Oh, get this.

And of course, now I lost the page.

Here we go.

And if you go onto their website, you can find out about it.

It's a really an adorable pup.

His name, see him here?

Yeah, he's got really.

perky ears.

They stand straight up there.

Now he needs a specialized surgery that costs thousands of dollars.

Now they're hoping to raise $7,850 in donations and I know they've started something.

The dog's name is Ricky and he was born with a serious heart defect.

So they've

John

already started a

Gordy

GoFundMe fund and you can go to Dane County Humane Society's website and find out more about it.

We wanted to mention it because we talked to Lisa Bernard every couple of weeks and we'll have her.

She's not here.

Is she here tomorrow?

No, it's next Tuesday.

Okay.

All right.

Anyway, you can...

John Peterson

Yeah, that's a great cause.

Gordy

Find out

John Peterson

more

Gordy

at their website.

John Peterson

All right.

Let's get to kind of good news.

I'm not quite sure how to take this.

There's a...

clear way to end Citizens United, apparently, by changing state incorporation laws.

Oh, really?

Yeah, this is a little in the weeds, but it's good news for anybody who wants to end Citizens United.

And I think that's just about everybody, including Magus.

Rolling Stone had the article, the measures proponents note that Citizens United is predicated

on state laws, giving corporations the same power as actual human beings, including the power to spend on politics.

But they pointed out that in past eras, state laws granted corporations more limited powers, and states never relinquished their authority to redefine what corporations can and cannot do.

Now, Montana is experimenting with this with an initiative, and it's a proposal to simply use that authority, the state's authority, that they've never relinquished to change the law.

In

Gordy

this

John Peterson

case, to no longer grant corporations the power to spend on elections.

Wow.

That's a huge thing.

Gordy

It is.

Right.

It is.

That's really good news.

Now, who knew, right?

Citizens union.

How long has it been since they...

since Citizens United was a thing.

I mean, it's been years, right?

Yeah,

John Peterson

yeah,

Gordy

yeah.

And they're finally finding some way to get rid of it.

That's

John Peterson

right.

I mean, it really has gummed up the works.

I remember when they decided Citizens United was like, you know, the justices came out with this crazy, crazy concept of saying,

Money does not corrupt.

You know, when you

John

try to

John Peterson

change an old saying that is so true, everybody agrees with it.

And you you you contradict it totally by saying money doesn't corrupt.

Come on, it doesn't.

OK, you know, then you know that there's something wrong with the Supreme Court.

And from that day on, I knew the Supreme Court was definitely gunning for everything.

They were going through their checklist, the conservative checklist that these judges and justices have wanted to do.

for years for the Republican Party and they are doing it now.

In fact, uh, Coney Barrett, uh, uh, Coney Barrett basically said that, uh, Trump can do almost anything he wants.

He doesn't have to listen to the Supreme Court decisions that they have no way of enforcing them.

Wow.

Okay.

Well, we'll give him a little roadmap there because he isn't a smart man and say, you know, you really don't have to do

Gordy

anything to stop you.

You're good to go.

John Peterson

Yeah.

Okay.

We like our jobs.

You don't have to follow anything we say.

Gordy

No, no, no biggie.

Okay, it is a 648.

We'll be back with more of idiocracy and much more coming up in our seven o'clock hour with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin on WMDX.

Courtney (Co-Host)

Against disorder from the sirens night and day From the fires of the homeless From the ashes of the gay Democracy is coming to the USA

Oh boy, are we keeping our fingers crossed on that one!

John and Courtney in the morning WMDX 92.7, check us out on the Civic Media Epic WMDX and then text us, voice notice, or just damn well give us a call and be a part of the program.

John (Co-Host)

That's right.

You can call us at 608-879-8255.

That's 608-879-8255.

I

Courtney (Co-Host)

think John Minner has a great, great point here.

He texted us.

How could we have the largest protest in America in history and not take advantage of destroying the Capitol?

We have to find out who's in the planning committee.

Yeah.

Caller or Generic Speaker

Okay.

How come

Courtney (Co-Host)

we didn't destroy the Capitol?

Man, I don't know.

I mean, some other people have.

Yeah, they've done it in the past.

Yeah.

Yeah.

John (Co-Host)

All right.

It didn't happen this

Courtney (Co-Host)

time.

Or how?

Or, you know, why didn't we just put out a video, an AI video of a fighter jet?

Oh.

Bombing bombing the crowds no king protest crowds with poop Yeah, dropping poop on everybody.

John (Co-Host)

What was

Courtney (Co-Host)

that about that?

That was oh, well,

John (Co-Host)

I know

Courtney (Co-Host)

that's that's what our commander-in-chief.

Yeah, that was retweeted Yeah, he had to do that right.

Oh my god.

I mean, it's an AI version of him in a fighter jet dropping poop

dressed up on

the crowds.

Yeah, unbelievable

He's

Caller or Generic Speaker

a

Courtney (Co-Host)

class act,

Caller or Generic Speaker

man.

Courtney (Co-Host)

He sure is.

Yeah, a lot of world leaders

Caller or Generic Speaker

are

Courtney (Co-Host)

looking at him thinking, hmm.

He's in a class by himself.

Yes.

He stays there.

Close the door.

Oh, man.

OK.

All right.

Well, anyway.

Let's talk about what happened, okay?

John (Co-Host)

Over the

Courtney (Co-Host)

over the weekend.

Let's

John (Co-Host)

talk about protests all over the country.

Courtney (Co-Host)

Yes, more than 2600 something like that.

Well, I knew it as the hate America rallies.

Oh, I just this is one of the most unbelievable comments from anybody with any kind of responsibility at all.

That's Speaker Mike Johnson.

I'm still I can't believe he even

said this but anyway let's listen to cut 160 it's unbelievable

Speaker Mike Johnson

I encourage you to watch we call it the hate America rally that will happen Saturday let's see who shows up for that I bet you see pro Hamas supporters I bet you see antifa types I bet you see the Marxist in full display the people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic and we do

And that's what we're here doing every single day.

These guys are

John (Co-Host)

playing to the most radical, small, and violent base in the country.

You'll see them on Saturday on the mall.

They just do not love this country.

And these guys are afraid of them.

We call it the Hate America rally because you'll see the hate for America all over this thing when they show up.

Courtney (Co-Host)

Oh, yeah.

Hate America

John (Co-Host)

Rowley.

Is that what you saw on Saturday?

Courtney (Co-Host)

I can't wait to see proof of payment when all these protesters start cashing their checks at the local bank or credit unions.

From

John (Co-Host)

George Soros?

Yeah, it's kind of like

Courtney (Co-Host)

a stimulus check.

Thank you, George Soros for that.

Hey, this is, okay, this is what I wanted to do.

A lot of people dressed up in costumes, right?

Yeah.

And I think that's the best way to protest.

Besides shutting down the economy, I think dress up in costumes because dragging a dinosaur away or giant bee or frog doesn't work.

You know, it's not it's not so

John (Co-Host)

intimidating.

It's not a good

Courtney (Co-Host)

look.

No, but I thought this is the thing.

But I thought, you know, maybe people wouldn't take it the right way.

I wanted to dress up as a George Soros check cashing ATM.

No, really.

And asking people to give me their George Soros checks, I'll give you the cash.

But I didn't know how to give people the cash.

So I could have bought a lot of phony money.

But then they thought, they might think that I'm for the other side.

Oh, well, oh,

Caller or Generic Speaker

so is that stuff.

Courtney (Co-Host)

Yeah, he's making fun of us getting the George Soros check.

Yeah, but I thought it would have been kind of fun to do that.

Um, a group with almost no, well, this is just another comical mega name, the Americans for public trust, which it ain't.

And it's executive director, Caitlin Sutherland warned of dark money going to millions of democratic protesters.

And she warned everyone on the Laura Ingram angle.

Notice how Ingram never conclusively says any of this is true.

So let's listen to this cut 153.

And this is again, Caitlin Sutherland from the incredibly nicely named Americans for public trust.

Unknown Speaker, Possibly a News Segment

Now, most of you know that George and Alex Soros are causing real damage to the country.

Courtney (Co-Host)

No, they're not.

What is

Unknown Speaker, Possibly a News Segment

what they're doing illegal?

Well, Donald Trump thinks so.

Today, he urged that both be prosecuted.

under federal racketeering statutes known as RICO.

Their organization Open Society Foundations has funneled millions into the groups behind the protests that we've seen over the last few years.

Got to stop that.

Indivisible.

That's the group behind the National Tesla protests.

Then there are the protests here in Washington being put on by a group called Free DC.

It also gets money from nonprofits like Community Change and Community Change Action.

But where do they get money from?

Well, again, you have to do this diagramming, but millions from that can be traced to left-wing dark money mega donors, which include George Soros and his foundation.

Caller or Generic Speaker

Oh, of course.

So

Unknown Speaker, Possibly a News Segment

whether it's protesting Tesla or backing progressive DAs, his money has touched a lot, and not much of it is good, including illegal immigration.

Caller or Generic Speaker

We are going to need all of that fuel to continue to combat this administration.

that continues to bring political terror to our black, brown, working families and immigrant communities.

Unknown Speaker, Possibly a News Segment

The group is called CASA, which is fighting to keep alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar-Abrego Garcia here in the United States.

That's also got money.

In 2023, the Open Society Foundation's awarded CASA 1.6 million.

Courtney (Co-Host)

All right.

There you go.

Wow.

All right.

You're in money.

Oh my God.

Yeah.

You know, Elon Musk contributed a whole lot of money.

Oh, yeah.

Merriam Adelson contributed a whole bunch.

How about the Richard and Euline fundraising campaign?

They, uh, they contributed a lot.

Moms for Liberty got their money.

Peter Thiel.

I don't know.

You

John (Co-Host)

know, maybe they've got a lot of

Courtney (Co-Host)

money on their side.

John (Co-Host)

Yeah, that's

Courtney (Co-Host)

okay somehow.

Yeah, they keep

John (Co-Host)

forgetting about that.

It is 6.59 straight heads, news and updates on the weather.

And in our next hour, former Madison Mayor, Hal Suck.

John and Gordy

Good morning, Madison.

Dominic Lee

You're listening to 92.7.

WMDX.

It's time for the John and Gordy morning show.

John Peterson

That's right.

This is one where you're going to play jazz music, remember?

John

Dominic Lee

Gordy radio show

John Peterson

on

Dominic Lee

WM.

And

John Peterson

we decided to go talk political.

Why waste a jingle when you have it?

That's

Gordy Young

right.

John Peterson

That's what I think.

Gordy Young

That's John Peterson.

I'm Gordie Young.

Dominic Lee is our producer.

It is seven minutes past the hour.

A nice clear start, but it's chilly out there.

A little bit of frost here and there.

So look out for that this morning.

and temperatures climbing into the mid to upper sixties later on today right now 37 degrees hey you can win your dinner from wmdx and sugar river pizza you know sugar river pizza they are award-winning they won the best of madison pizza award and

John Peterson

All right, sounds great.

John Mentor out there in Edgerton.

He says the top five donators of the election were all Republicans and George didn't even crack the top 10.

And that's true.

That's true.

I remember when Scott Walker went out to see Adelson.

in Las Vegas to get his stamp of approval and in a big bag of money.

Really,

Gordy Young

that's how he got it.

He didn't make a

John Peterson

big

John and Gordy

deal about it.

John Peterson

Yeah,

Mehdi Hasan

it

John and Gordy

was this whole

John Peterson

thing.

John and Gordy

Well,

John Peterson

I'm planning on going out there soon because, you know, Mr. Adelson wants to see me.

I definitely want to check it out.

Yeah, it's like, like casual.

Yeah, I'm going to get a lot

Dominic Lee

of

John Peterson

money.

Whatever he wants, he gets.

Come on.

It's just ridiculous.

And then a complaint about George Soros.

Oh my God.

You know, with that dangerous

a site, a group that he has, you know, it, I mean, just the name alone scares the deal.

I'd say the open society foundation.

No.

Anyway, well, you know, Ted Cruz is on this thing.

He saw the alarm on possible ties between George Soros.

Yeah.

And the No Kings protest.

Oh, really?

Oh my God.

Ted Cruz's ties to this.

What could could we listen to this?

He's got.

You know, he's pretty smart.

He's well connected.

Ted Cruz

Now, I will say one of the most important things President Trump has done recently is he has pledged that he's going to go after Antifa.

And what I've been urging is follow the money, cut off the money.

And you look at this, no King's rally.

And there's considerable evidence that George Soros and his network is behind funding these rallies, which may well be riots all across the country.

Soros is writing the check could

John Peterson

be

Ted Cruz

right.

And so I would introduce legislation called the stop.

Act that would add rioting.

to the list of predicate offenses for RICO.

Why is that?

Because it would let the Department of Justice use RICO, racketeering to prosecute the money that is funding the anti-Semitic protests on campuses, the pro-open border protest in L.A.

and other cities, and these no-king protests.

Anyone that is supporting rioting and violence, it lets you go after the money.

And I'll tell you, there are more than 200 left-wing groups behind these no-kings rallies.

weekend.

They deliberately are blind to what each of the others are doing.

That's part of how they avoid accountability.

Rico is designed for precisely that sort of criminal enterprise.

Both Pam Bondi at DOJ and Cash Patel at FBI.

Follow the money and prosecute those who are writing checks funding acts of violence political violence or otherwise across the country

John Peterson

if it happens Okay, so let me see here time Ted Cruz basically said that these independent groups There's no ties between them, right?

Right.

So it kind of flies in the face of this giant network left-wing

John and Gordy

network

John Peterson

that Cash Patel is going after and Pam

Bonnie is certainly going to search out.

I don't know.

These guys are constantly contradicting themselves and they're almost funny to a certain degree.

Let's go to the phones right now.

We've got Mark on the line.

Mark, what do you got for us?

Yeah, he's been waiting a

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

long time.

I was at No Kings on Saturday here at the Bridge of Prairie to Sack over at Wisconsin Rivers over the Sock City Bridge over at

Dominic Lee

Sack.

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

That's right.

One estimate was over 600 people were on the bridge.

I thought it was over 400, but

You know, the bridge was covered and there was just a couple, you know, most of the traffic going by was beeping and affirmative, you know, in support.

A few people were flipping us off going by.

There was a couple of trolls there in military garb, holding the Trump 2024 sign up, but they were wearing...

like military fatigue simply their mask so they don't want their faces to be seen.

What is wrong with

John Peterson

those people?

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

I just thought incredible courage.

And there's a talking to one woman who's a fan of the program.

I think she's going to be in Pat Kretl's program on Thursday with advocating for her daughter who has disabilities, but that she's another fan of this program.

She even, even a fan of me should mark from the sack.

She was

Dominic Lee

just,

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

uh, I can't, I can't find a hard to believe that I actually have a fan club.

John and Gordy

Yes, you do.

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

Because all I say is just, you know, what pops into my head some mornings and look it up and, but you just need to follow the fall history and plan O'Donnell and, uh, Laura Ingram.

Laura Ingram is a cancer survivor.

You think she have a little bit more humanity and a little bit more.

John and Gordy

Yeah,

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

sympathy in her soul, but apparently these people sold their souls for their millions and she's talking about all this stuff and that here she's you know, she's a multi-millionaire and She just wants to you know, rub it in and complain about yeah, and during the whole what gets me is that I'm surprised these people aren't Hawking Henry Ford's old book from back

Um, in the 1930s, the international Jew, the world's biggest problem or something like that, because these guys are just the anti-Semitism just, they're all for Israel, but the anti-Semitism that they display is just,

John Peterson

um, I know, I know.

Mark from Prairie du Sac (caller)

It's just shocking.

It's over the top.

John Peterson

Yeah.

All right, Mark.

Well,

Gordy Young

thank you for their

John Peterson

call this morning.

608-879-8255.

I want to play, uh, uh,

Mike Johnson again.

Well, not the one the cut after that, but just, you know, we'll stop it right after Mike Johnson makes his little comment about the, uh, no Kings protest.

John and Gordy

I encourage you to watch.

We call it the hate America rally that'll happen Saturday.

Let's see who shows up for that.

I bet you see pro Hamas supporters.

I bet you see antifa types.

Mehdi Hasan

I

John and Gordy

bet you see the Marxist in full display, the people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic.

And we do.

And that's what we're here doing every single day.

John Peterson

All right.

So, uh, you know, nearly 7 million demonstrators in small towns and cities across the country showed up for

John and Gordy

the

John Peterson

Kings protest and get this Trump declared that he was not a king.

Fox News on Friday just to kind of make sure that everybody knew that maybe and just diffuse the whole whole protest Call

Mehdi Hasan

it

John Peterson

off His paranoid rack brain imagines con artists enemies conspiracies to justify his kingly military invasions of cities and he doesn't even know what fascism is so I don't know

Maybe he shouldn't say anything, right?

And get this, the protests were overwhelmingly peaceful.

More than 350,000 people protested in New York City with New York City police making zero arrests connected to the protests.

Rallies from Charlotte, North Carolina to San Diego, California also did not see any arrests according to the police.

Get this though.

The Badger game, there are about 17 people arrested.

John and Gordy

Well, the game was a good one.

Just to give you a little comparison.

John Peterson

Oh, God.

All right, I've got a clipper of many a son.

He spoke in Washington, D.C.

in the nation's capital.

Let's listen to part of what he had to say here.

Let's go.

Mehdi Hasan

Even King Charles has more respect for democratic norms and traditions than the whiny authoritarian man-child trying to send troops into as many blue cities as he can.

This is a president who says he wants to be a dictator, but only for a day.

Well, we are now 271 days into his wannabe dictatorship.

He just went to see the Egyptian president, Sisi, who is a military dictator, runs one of the most repressive regimes on Earth.

And he went there and he said,

I want to praise your fantastic leadership and your low crime rates.

This is who he loves.

This is the autocratic leader he aspires to be.

And of course, he was in Egypt hailing his Gaza peace plan, which is a ceasefire, yes, but not a peace plan.

Israel for the past week has violated the ceasefire again and again, killing Palestinians with impunity.

Yesterday they killed seven Palestinian children during a ceasefire.

There is no peace in the Middle East because as dr. King said peace is not just the absence of violence.

It is the presence of justice So these are dark times genocide abroad fascism at home Which is why it's so crucial that we gather we organize we rally like this We mobilize we pluralize we bring people into the tent we register voters we defend voters we become voters if we're not already and you know

They say we don't reach out to the other side.

We don't reach out to conservatives or Republicans that we're in an echo chamber.

Well, let me say to every Republican and conservative watching, aren't you the ones who said no more big government, no tyranny in America?

So if you believe that, what are you doing defending masked federal agents in unmarked cars, bundling people off of the streets, including American citizens and disappearing them?

How are you okay with that?

And if you're not okay with it then come over to our side The side of the Democrats The small D Democrats not the big D Democrats not the Democratic Party those of us who are from all parties and none But those of us who care about saving America so that we can get to our 250th birthday and still be free when we reach 250 years Come over to our side

the side of no crowns, no thrones, no kings, the side of freedom, of liberty, of the Constitution.

We here today are not spectators.

We are citizens.

We are not bystanders.

We are proud and patriotic Americans.

And we Americans, we the people, will not allow our country to be taken over by demagogues and dictators.

We will not stand for it.

Answer this, are you willing to sit back and let Trump shred our freedoms?

Are you willing to sit back and bend the knee to fascists and white supremacists?

Are you willing to be the Americans on whose watch democracy died?

Good, because people power is our last line of defense.

Remember this, Donald Trump has never, ever, not in three elections, won a majority of the votes.

Never.

I'll say this to you.

Here's the math that they are scared of.

There are more of us than there are of them.

And we have no intention of losing our country, our democracy, our freedoms to that twice impeached convicted criminal and his gang of grifters.

No way.

We will out-organize them.

We will out-vote them.

We will outlast them.

When I see you all out here today in your thousands, in millions across the country, I have hope.

I have faith.

that America can defeat this fascist threat, this authoritarian mania, this MAGA cult, and save our freedoms.

And I also have faith and hope that one day, one day soon, the Palestinians will be free.

Thank you very much for

John Peterson

your time.

There you go.

That's many a sign.

Boy, that's

Gordy Young

quite the speech.

That is.

That is great

John Peterson

speech.

Gordy Young

Yeah, excellent.

19 minutes past the hour.

Coming up in about 15 minutes, we'll be talking to former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.

John Peterson

We've got Dick on the line.

We'll get to his phone call in just a few moments.

We've got a few more cuts here about the No Kings protest.

Mehdi Hasan

Stay with us.

Weather Reporter

It is 723

temperatures today should climb into the mid to upper sixties.

It's going to get windy at times and right now still chilly in the upper thirties.

So you might be even in for a little bit of frost this morning.

John (host)

Susanna Satex from McFarland.

No Kings was amazing here in Madison.

No violin, lots of unicorns, children, dogs, music.

Good times.

No violins at all.

I have to say one of the amazing things was how many people created their own costume.

You know, and I don't mind, you know, the cartoon character costumes were fantastic.

The animal costumes were great.

Not when you had to buy them, but this is a way to celebrate a protest.

You know, go out there and really, you know, say what you think

Gordy (co-host)

and

John (host)

wear a goofy costume on top of it all.

You know, and it was great.

You know, I ran into Merlin, the wizard.

Oh, really?

Weather Reporter

Oh, wow.

John (host)

And and Gandalf the wizard with a special sign.

I mean the wizard showed up and

Gordy (co-host)

when they do

John (host)

that that means something to me

Dick (caller)

anyway

John (host)

Let's go to dick dick's on the line for us.

What do you got first

Dick (caller)

dick?

Yeah I'm gonna go local being that you're having the former mirror on I mentioned this a week or so to you ago about the causeway project.

Yes in the box 75% of it

is federally funded in the second phase from what I understand in the red.

I could easily see this clown pulling the plug on it.

Yeah.

And then we'd sit with the thing kind of like that big hole downtown in West Wash where I made DC sat.

John (host)

That's right.

Right.

Yeah.

Yeah, that's not

Dick (caller)

going to be

John (host)

nice.

Yeah.

Dick (caller)

And I could really see that happening with him.

John (host)

Well,

Dick (caller)

we

John (host)

pointed that out right away.

Gordy and I were just like, wait a minute.

This isn't going to work out for us.

Yeah.

Seemed to think those federal funds are secure.

Yeah.

Well, I know.

Just pull the funding.

Yeah.

Just to get even because it's a blue sitting.

Right.

All right, Dick.

Thanks a lot for that.

Let's go to Joe right away.

Joe, what do you got for us?

Joe (caller)

Hi guys great show as always and just a reminder that your your collars are you know the spice that makes you stew the most wonderful thing ever I did want to say you know thanks to dick and and and all the textures and all and I did want to also add a hat salute to Mark Yes, you have a big fan club and one of the things that I've gotten from Mark is His emphasis on the Federalist papers and the idea that we our country has a history It's based on something not just you know

thin air and in that regard I just wanted to say that think about the courage that those people had who signed the Declaration of Independence they could have been killed by the king and they just went ahead and did it and I did want to say that speaking of courage we do need to look at Speaker Mike Johnson and the fact that we're heading into another week refusing to go forward he's just sitting on his tail feathers doing nothing while people are going through a lot of hurt and it's a

He does not want to see that first woman who was elected out of Arizona at Lita, I believe is the way to pronounce her name.

He just won't see her.

And he says, this is the most amazing thing ever.

The guy is the speaker of the house.

He is in charge of the house.

And he told this candidate who has not been seated yet.

She's been elected, but she hasn't been seated yet.

Just go ahead and do your job.

You didn't need to be sworn in.

Oh my God.

Just go ahead and do your job.

I did not know that.

How does she get to the office?

How does she get security?

How does she get a staff?

How does she get the cleaning crew?

I mean, she has no office with a key.

And I guess she's supposed to run her congressional career with a cell phone at Starbucks or something.

So this is where we are.

And all you can think is, a lot of courage, Mike.

There must be some release.

stinky stuff in that Epstein files.

Oh, I know.

You can't go forward and cheat this person who was duly elected and for God's sakes, you know, just go ahead and do your job.

It's amazing.

What doesn't he do his job, you know?

Right?

John (host)

Yeah.

Joe (caller)

So anyway,

John (host)

that's,

Joe (caller)

yeah.

John (host)

It's one of the biggest cover-ups that we've ever seen in history, this human trafficking problem with Epstein, and they're just covering it up.

They're not going to put it out there.

This is just...

astonishing.

It is.

Joe (caller)

How long will we be without this person?

How long will it be in lockdown, basically, until it gets released?

Thanks a lot, you guys.

All

John (host)

right,

Gordy (co-host)

Joe.

Thank you.

John (host)

Yes.

I got it.

I got it.

This is a radio announcer.

He does a weekend show, I guess, in New York, which is pretty still pretty good.

Anyway, he was out there.

And you know what they were doing?

It was they were going to weird corners and saying, Oh, not a lot of people are here.

Well, this is him.

This is him talking about this.

Check it out.

Radio Commentator

And just like a fart in a white suburban wind, they're gone.

They're all gone.

The No Kings protest is over just like that.

They've all cleared out.

They go home after.

An hour and a half they were here.

Conviction apparently has to be scheduled.

You see, and an allyship is on a deadline, especially when Kaylee has to get ready for her ballet recital a little later.

It's absolutely hilarious.

No, it isn't.

Timed advocacy.

I am not surprised that these weekend warriors were in and out so that they could go and do all of their own stuff.

That's how you can tell all of this is empty.

The only ones who are calling Donald Trump a king are liberals The only ones who are referring to yes him as some type of monarch or whatever Are them?

Well, it's from the very beginning.

It's empty, but apparently they're gonna keep doing it There's all right.

You got it.

John (host)

You got the idea.

You know, I mean, yeah, we went over after the

rallies.

Where else are we supposed to go out and party?

I don't know.

It's a great observation.

We have lives.

We don't camp out at Trump rallies for weeks on end just to wait for him to show up.

Weather Reporter

My God.

We will be back with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin up next on John and Gordy WMDX.

John (host)

WMDX 92.7.

It's John and Gordy in the morning.

It gets wrapped up in that song.

I love it.

Gordy (host)

The American dream is killing us all.

We've got sunshine today, highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Time for us to talk with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.

Good morning, Paul.

Morning, guys.

Pretty good weekend, though.

John (host)

Boy, it really was.

I mean, what a...

great get together out at the Capitol on Saturday, just fantastic.

I was out there and Gordy missed it because he was in the process of moving, but so many people turned out, so many costumed characters turned out for this protest.

I want to get your input on that.

What do you think of turning up in costumes for these protests?

I mean, I'm trying to figure out a better way to protest.

Really?

costumes is the way to at least, you know, present a different kind of image, right?

I mean, instead of the smoke bombs and the flash bombs and everything else, you know, when you have a costume character, it lessens the impact of those.

Well, when the

Gordy (host)

cops are hauling off a unicorn, you

John (host)

know, that's what the sign... Yeah, you know there's something wrong with them, right?

There's something weird going on.

It's not the unicorn.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_??

Anyway.

Paul Soglin

Yes, and especially if it's...

Shall we say some something or someone that we treat with affection?

Yeah Like a princess

John (host)

right or

Paul Soglin

a

John (host)

giant bee.

I like the giant bee

Paul Soglin

Yeah, yeah

John (host)

dinosaur.

Yeah, we're getting off the wizard.

Yeah Well, okay

It was a great protest.

You've been through a lot of protests yourself here in Madison.

I mean, we are the protest city.

What are some of the things that you remember way back when that seemed to work and things that didn't work exactly?

Paul Soglin

Well, I think the important thing to remember is this, that protests generally are important to invigorate the base.

They give us energy.

They give us

the momentum to go on to do other things.

Protests don't necessarily expand the base.

They do energize it.

And so what you do, you don't hop from protest to protest.

What you do is you have protests, then you do the work of expanding the base, more protests expand the base.

There's almost a rhythm to it.

And as it progresses, you see political change.

You do see end to wars.

You do see legislation pass that produces social and economic justice.

And so, yeah, now it's time to double down and

Go out there and expand the base.

John (host)

You know, it

Paul Soglin

was a great weekend across the country.

John (host)

You know what they're

Paul Soglin

doing now internationally.

John (host)

Oh, yeah internationally too.

Yes, but what they're doing now is they're creating more of a of a show, you know with some of the weaponry with some of the smoke bombs

All of that stuff creates a show for the administration, you know, and it creates confusion among the protesters and no one knows what's really going on and they can present it any way they want.

They can spin the images in the way that they want to because of those show busy type of situations they want to create and put out on social media.

Paul Soglin

Well, I think one of the things

especially as long as the protests stay peaceful, and including in peaceful, I include disruption.

Disruption has its role.

I draw the line at tractions.

But one of the things that, going back particularly to the Nixon administration,

And now we see it with the Trump administration, is you have repressive governments that do not know how to democratically respond to those protests.

And that works our advantage because that does highlight the fact that they are emperors, they are kings.

that they have no regard for the other branches of government, the legislative body, and particularly the courts.

Now, the big challenge for us as Americans now is will the courts stand by the Constitution?

The packing of the Supreme Court with Trump appointees, obviously, I think the most

terrifying thing we've seen in the history of this nation.

The combination of a president who believes that his will is more important, more powerful than the other two branches of government.

John (host)

Well, Amy Comney Barrett, she did an interview and she mentioned that President Trump can do almost anything he wants.

She can

He can defy the court, the Supreme Court, if he wants, because they have no way to stop him.

They don't have police powers to stop him.

So that's an amazing thing to say.

Well,

Paul Soglin

it's the reality.

And it goes back to one of the very first Supreme Court rulings.

May very recently, Madison, we talked about that where after after the Supreme Court decision,

Uh, the president said, in effect, they, uh, they made that ruling, let them enforce it.

Sort of, you know, jokingly mocking the fact that the Supreme court has no other way of enforcing its decisions other than the, basically the will of the president and the Congress to abide by the rulings.

Gordy (host)

That's right.

We're talking with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.

Paul, before we went on the air, you mentioned a New York Times article

Paul Soglin

that

Gordy (host)

caught your eye, basically talking about how there's maybe a lane for more moderate candidates in our near future.

Tell us more

Paul Soglin

about that.

It's an interesting article this morning, which discusses the fact that while there's not a lot of competitive races,

It's it's an opinion piece.

It's entitled America still has a political center and it's the key to winning and While there aren't that many competitive congressional districts or even Senate districts there are some and the key to winning and they uses some Wisconsin examples here the elections of Tony Evers and and reelection in the last time of Tammy Baldwin the point is

You don't have to be as left-wing and progressive in these more moderate congressional districts as say an AOC or a Mark Polkant that if your party wants to build a majority, speaking in this case of the Democrats, let's elect one moderate people who will be there, maybe not on every issue, but certainly

in enough to control a House of Congress.

And you see it in two different ways, first in terms of more moderate people in these swing districts.

But also, I'll use the example of Tammy Baldwin, who's got a plethora of physicians on issues.

Uh, in certain parts of Wisconsin, for example, maybe she ought to talk about some of the efforts that she's made in terms of combating unnecessary government regulation rather than speaking about some of her more militant positions in regards to social and economic justice.

John (host)

That's

Gordy (host)

a pretty good idea.

Yeah.

So that middle lane is pretty much wide open.

For candidates

John (host)

like,

Gordy (host)

yeah, like,

John (host)

yes, they can drive

Gordy (host)

through there.

Yeah.

Yeah,

John (host)

go

Gordy (host)

ahead.

Paul Soglin

Read a portion of the article.

Um, and it, the author of this piece suggests the strategy and then writes left wing Democrats and right wing Republicans have spent years trying to tell a different story.

They claim that reaching out to swing voters is overrated and then they are wrong.

But they do have an element of truth in what they're saying.

And their point, their office point is this.

They are not, there's not as many swing districts in this country that are left to be competitive.

But there's still enough swing districts for either party to create a majority.

So good luck to all of us.

John (host)

Yeah.

I know.

kind of play

Gordy (host)

what that exactly could mean.

Well, I just wonder if moderate and mid, I guess we wouldn't know until they try, but moderate and middle candidates do,

Paul Soglin

you know,

Gordy (host)

how do they do in fundraising?

Cause things are so divided now.

And it seems like big money is driving the train still.

Yeah, that's for sure.

John (host)

But isn't there a move, a youth movement as well that we're looking at?

you know, getting the fresh new faces in new blood in the

Paul Soglin

democratic

John (host)

party.

Paul Soglin

I think that's critical as well.

And we've seen that in some of these instances where we've got challenges.

We have challenges to some well entrenched incumbents.

Republicans have absolutely no problem throwing some of their older

Shall we say more moderate leaders under the bus?

Democrats are a bit resembling a bit reluctant to do that But I think the key is is understanding the nature of the constituency and finding the candidate who can win that election

And then with time, and this is critical.

It was the key to my success in hearing Madison, and the first time I was elected mayor in the 70s, prove that you're going to represent the people, prove that you're going to look out for their agenda, and then prove you can govern and take them with you to a more progressive position.

Organized labor in Madison in the 1970s was horrendous.

Public employees unions were not looking out for women.

And one of the greatest battles we had was the city's efforts that were successful to hire women firefighters.

The women, the firefighters union adamantly was opposed to it.

And if you look at the list of some of the alders,

particularly so-called downtown progressives.

They voted against the appointment at that time of Judith Pedersen to the police and fire commission, and I had nominated her as an appointee of somebody who was going to work diligently to change the hiring standards for the department and make it more inclusive to include women.

Now,

There was a bad battle itself, but not only was there that battle, but then we had to move forward With the firefighters union and keep them in effect on the progressive side Because in terms of elections, they've been key to my first victory

Gordy (host)

Well, we need to leave it there.

We appreciate you joining us always good to talk to you and we'll talk to you again next month

Well, hopefully it'll be as warm as it is now.

Yeah.

Paul Soglin

We

Gordy (host)

appreciate it.

Yes.

Thank you, Paul.

Thank you.

We appreciate your

Paul Soglin

point of view on that.

Gordy (host)

Paul Simon, former Madison mayor.

We're coming right back after this.

Various Unidentified Speakers/Soundbites

It's very clear you're being unpacking and we're going to run it all away with no more kings.

We're going to elect a president.

No more kings.

He's going to do what the people want.

Tim Burchett

No

Various Unidentified Speakers/Soundbites

more kings.

We're going to run things our way.

No more kings.

Nobody's going to tell us what to do.

To put it kindly king, we really don't agree.

They knew our time had

John (co-host)

come for them to take this.

92.7.

It's John and Gordy in the morning.

We're all holding hands.

trying to make it through the next three and a half year.

That's right.

There will

Gordy (co-host)

be here for you.

752.

We've got a few more minutes to go here before Stephanie Miller.

John (co-host)

I mentioned earlier that they were flooding social media with old mass protests trying to discredit the major protests and no Kings protest around the nation.

The right wing was very busy putting videos out there of protests that don't

actually happen, you know, now.

They happened many years ago.

And one of the big ones, and this is, this is what the post read countless leftist mouthpieces on X, including Elizabeth Warren.

have been caught sharing a 2017 MSNBC video from a Boston counter protest to make it appear as footage of the 2025 No Kings rally after lower than expected turnout.

No, the turnout was rather large.

You know, I don't know.

We saw a lot of homemade signs, a lot of costume characters out there.

I think this is a fantastic

turnout.

Even in Middleton, one of the corners in Middleton

Gordy (co-host)

was

John (co-host)

jam-packed with people holding signs and protesting.

What a great site that was.

And tomorrow, thanks to a listener who sent us the audio, Judge Everett Mitchell's opening speech, which was very difficult to follow.

John Nichols did a good job right afterwards, but it was a great speech.

We'll get a little

piece of that tomorrow so uh... uh... it it was uh... just a fantastic speech right uh... let's get to uh... we have uh... cg and a lot

Gordy (co-host)

of a bunch of

John (co-host)

calls for those of you to get to all of what do you got cj

CJ (caller)

morning gentlemen

John (co-host)

i

CJ (caller)

don't think i'm gonna call i'd like uh... i thought some uh... videos were

newscasters were rocking around to these protests.

And I love where they asked them why why they were protesting.

And they didn't have any idea.

So what is he doing as a king?

They didn't have any idea.

And Mr. Soglin talked about getting the youth vote.

Turning Point USA.

Charlie Kirk blowing up

Gentlemen,

Various Unidentified Speakers/Soundbites

yeah,

CJ (caller)

the churches are packed.

The youth are looking for positive messages and they're finding it on the Republicans

John (co-host)

But you know the the the message that Charlie Kirk had wasn't a positive one It was a horribly negative one.

It was masked in in Christianity.

It was masked in Christianity It pretended to be a religious point of view and it poisons the poisons

CJ (caller)

religion

country that's just a terrible message isn't it guys well that's why I

John (co-host)

think it's more detailed than that

CJ (caller)

millions of you are

Headed towards the conservative side as you guys well, you can

John (co-host)

say that

CJ (caller)

crazy people like mendani.

John (co-host)

Yeah,

CJ (caller)

a communist Marxist

John (co-host)

well, you know He'll look it will see we'll see how successful he is.

We'll see how successful he is on that Okay, we're gonna take a next next caller here.

It's Charles.

What do you got for us Charles?

Charles got a couple of minutes

Charles (caller)

Good morning guys, man.

I hate I had to

He had to come before me.

What he does is he really shows his racism.

He does.

My dummy hasn't done anything to anyone except for talking about trying to help everyday normal citizens.

One thing you don't hear coming from the right anymore is helping people.

It was all about, oh, the grocery prices.

We got to bring prices down, housing.

Donald Trump has not said one thing about helping everyday normal citizens.

Exactly.

CJ (caller)

Good point.

Charles (caller)

I was calling about the protest.

My wife and I went down to Cathedral Park in Milwaukee, and it was amazing.

Earl was the emcee, did a great job.

Maggie Dawn had a speaking part.

She did great.

It was terrific to see all humans out there, different shades, just enjoying themselves and

trying to save the democracy of this country.

There was no hate speech.

There was no, we hate America.

None of that.

And I think Republicans are but hurt because there were no issues and they thought they were going to be.

I was glad of the time limit thing from 11 to 2 o'clock you dispersed because if you let it linger on, that gives the opportunity for the hooligans.

that they want to come in and disrupt things and then have broadcast it all over the news.

Oh, look at the riots.

They're tearing up stuff.

We thought it was fantastic.

Couldn't ask for a better day.

Exactly.

John (co-host)

All right, Charles, thank you very much.

Appreciate it.

Yeah, great point of view.

And that's what happened during the, you know, King's rallies.

Now let's go to Tim Burchett.

He's a Republican and he was out at Burger King.

Let's listen

Tim Burchett

to him.

your friendly neighborhood Burger King and join my No Kings Day.

It's some traditional flame, broiled goodness in my hand right now.

Could you imagine the Democrat Party calling about No Kings?

And they literally elected their candidate for president, Mala Harris, with no election.

John (co-host)

Imagine

Tim Burchett

that.

Man.

We are irony of it all.

We don't have a king in this country.

All

John (co-host)

right, now he also wrote celebrating the fact that I don't have a British accent with a charbroil Whopper in my hand.

Okay, wait a minute.

You know that voice on the familiar Could you play 165 for me here?

Let's listen to this because I think

Various Unidentified Speakers/Soundbites

this

John (co-host)

is with the British accent though.

Okay, this is Tim Bershady.

I

Various Unidentified Speakers/Soundbites

think

Cappies is the point where the best hamburgers ought to be found for only 15 cents.

All right.

I think you're right.

Sounds like the same guy.

John (co-host)

I know it does sound like the same guy.

And he tipped his hand.

He said, I

Gordy (co-host)

don't

John (co-host)

have a British accent this time.

Okay.

Gordy (co-host)

Fabulous.

Hey, Grouchy captain.

That is going to do it for a Monday tomorrow.

Tom and Christy Madness will join us talking about some fall trip ideas this time of year with the leaves changing and all that kind of thing.

Stephanie Miller is next.

John, have a great day.

Yeah, well, I certainly will.

And

John (co-host)

we'll be talking more about No Kings tomorrow as

Gordy (co-host)

well.

Yes, sir.
