Announcer

In a world filled with chaos and confusion, in an echo chamber filled with lies and deceptions, comes a ray of light.

Live from Madison, Wisconsin, it's John and Gordy in the morning on 92.7 WMDX.

John (host)

Welcome again to another great day.

Beautiful day in the neighborhood.

John and Gordy with you on WMDX 92.7 on the old radio dial as you're driving into work this morning or just hanging out, sipping a cup of coffee, wondering what is going to happen today that may change your life forever.

Hey, hey.

Hey, hey

Oh wait, I don't know.

It's Monday.

Just trying to, you know, get the energy level up.

Isn't it Bob and Tom that used to do that all the time?

They just laugh forever.

Yeah, and they have five or six or ten people in the studio.

Everybody laughs at everything.

That's all zoo radio at you.

Yeah.

I think they're still on the air.

I think they are.

It never ends.

They're older than we.

Actually, Bob retired years ago, like five or six years ago.

Well, he's

John (host)

an AI voice now.

Gordy (host)

So.

Okay.

That's how that works.

Actually, I don't know.

Then they must

John (host)

not be on the air anymore if you retire.

Gordy (host)

No, I think they are.

They're on, but he retired.

They still called the Bob and Tom show even though Bob has nothing to do with the show.

It hasn't for years, but.

John (host)

Well,

Gordy (host)

if I

John (host)

ever leave, you know, just keep calling it

Gordy (host)

the

John (host)

John and Gordy show.

Oh, OK.

Are you

Gordy (host)

planning on leaving soon?

No.

OK.

John (host)

He scared me there.

Yeah.

No, I'm just thinking, you know, maybe, you know, someday they'll come in here, you know, and say, you know, you guys are pretty old.

Gordy (host)

Ageism, they can't do that.

John (host)

Yeah, we can't we can't discriminate on an age, but

Gordy (host)

We're just you suck just giving you

John (host)

you're gone giving you a warning, you know Yeah, you sound any older you're

Gordy (host)

out

John (host)

of here

Gordy (host)

By the way, I saw the Spinal Tap 2 over the weekend.

Oh, you did?

It's hilarious.

I just gotta say.

I thought it was even funnier than the first one, but now I'm starting.

Eh, maybe not.

But it's really good.

It's just all about old aging rock stars.

So people our age will enjoy it because we get all the references and all the funny stuff that they say all the way through.

Really

John (host)

good.

So there were any radio announcers so old that they...

No, they didn't have

Gordy (host)

any radio announcer.

It was all about them sort of getting back together for a reunion one more time to do one more big concert.

And that was that was the theme, basically.

That's pretty cool.

But a couple of cameos in there from some rock stars.

And I think we've mentioned who shows up in that.

John (host)

Was

Gordy (host)

Greg Marcus in there as well?

I did not see Greg Marcus.

I went to actually see this at the

at the Flix Brewhouse.

Oh, okay.

Have you ever been there?

No, I, it's really interesting.

I really want to

John (host)

go there.

Gordy (host)

But there were no lead-up commercials, no previews.

at

John (host)

all.

Gordy (host)

I was going

John (host)

to say Greg had one more bit.

They did two

Gordy (host)

bits to

John (host)

promote SpinalTab.

Gordy (host)

Oh yeah?

John (host)

Yeah.

And I never saw the second one that he did.

I'm sure they ripped into him.

You know, they ripped him to him on the first one.

Gordy (host)

It was really good.

You know, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest and Michael McKean and, you know, Rob Reiner.

and they flashed back a few times to previous stuff from the first movie.

Just very little of that.

Announcer

I

Gordy (host)

thought there would actually be more

Announcer

of that,

Gordy (host)

but they did it.

It was very

Announcer

good,

Gordy (host)

I thought.

A lot of laughs in there, and it's only 90 minutes.

Wow, I was gonna say, was it two or three hours?

No, no, they moved it right along.

I think they did a lot of, I mean, they did a lot of editing, made it.

made it really tight.

And yeah,

John (host)

it was

Gordy (host)

good.

John (host)

Well,

Gordy (host)

I can't wait to see

John (host)

it.

Yeah, I really can't

Gordy (host)

wait.

You'll enjoy it.

John (host)

So it has officially been released

Gordy (host)

at this point.

Yes.

All right.

They did have it at the Marcus in Sun Prairie, but they only had one late show.

It was like one show, 9.30 or something, like white.

And then I found it at the flicks.

What night did you see it?

Thursday night?

Friday night?

Maybe Saturday night?

I can't remember.

It's all a blur.

Wow, that is

John (host)

a blur.

Weekend.

Right?

Well, you know, you're taking some kind of special thing on the weekend that I'm not aware of.

That's okay.

Don't

Gordy (host)

share.

John (host)

Don't share.

I think it was Saturday, I think.

Gordy (host)

I don't know.

It was Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Well, these are quite wide open.

Pretty certain it was

John (host)

Saturday.

No

Gordy (host)

way.

Don't try to fix this.

It's all over.

It's all over.

Weather today.

It's 58 degrees currently, nice and cool, but we could be in for some showers, maybe a couple of thunderstorms late afternoon, highs in the upper 70s.

John (host)

You know, we're so old that they even could tell us that we're done, we're finished, you know, you're too old for being on the radio and we'd forget the next half

Gordy (host)

hour.

That's right.

We wouldn't know.

We would come back

John (host)

again.

Gordy (host)

We've got our go for the green and gold text to win contest starting in a little later on in the show after 7 a.m.

We've got an early morning call here.

Should

John (host)

we go to that?

A lot of people don't know that we can't say the sports team's names.

Is that correct?

Yes,

Gordy (host)

we just have to say Green Bay versus

John (host)

Minnesota.

There you

Gordy (host)

go.

There's a lot of legalities involved here.

Boy, they

John (host)

really hold onto those copyrighted names.

It's just silly.

All right, let's go to Matt in Middleton.

Good morning, Matt.

Matt from Middleton (caller)

Good morning, guys.

Happy Monday.

Yeah.

I'm just wondering, if you look at global news, I can't think of any time in history that a government or an administration has failed so miserably.

Bigly.

Rather bigly.

Bigly.

John (host)

Bigly.

Matt from Middleton (caller)

Yes.

With his big, magnificent orange brain it is.

Unidentified Contributor

Yeah,

Matt from Middleton (caller)

it turns out that China is making inroads with their Silk Road initiative and Afghanistan with China's help under the Taliban Will be investing billions in building a new green city complete with trees Urban landscapes so on and so forth and their trillions upon trillions worth of rare earth minerals and goods Will be available to China and the global south

While America falls to fascism with its tail tucked between its legs.

John (host)

Yeah trying to

Matt from Middleton (caller)

bring business here

John (host)

We can't we can't bring all those minerals to this country.

We can't do anything like that So we're disconnecting all our relationships Simply because we want to bring business to this country even though we don't have a lot of the resources that are required

Matt from Middleton (caller)

No, and then George camp of Georgia

Is about to go on an apology tour to South Korea because The racism there under ice lost them 8,000 jobs and billions of dollars Yeah, and the South Koreans are all laughing at us going well.

They're obviously afraid of China That's why they're picking fights with their allies instead of China the supposed real foe, you know

John (host)

Yeah,

Matt from Middleton (caller)

it's just laughable if it wasn't so sad

But have a good week.

Yeah, thanks for bringing us down.

John (host)

Thank you, Matt.

Making us aware of all the things

Gordy (host)

we're losing.

Yeah, if you'd like to chime in, 608-879-8255.

OK.

All right.

So a little bit later on, we're going to find out about Vegan Fest.

And we'll have a couple of guests in the studio talking about that.

That's coming up soon.

WMDX radio is involved with that that get together and Did you notice we have a new poll question out there?

My laptop is not working correctly.

It says that it's on but I've got no Blank screen here.

John (host)

Well, I I actually I actually helped with that I

Gordy (host)

had

John (host)

texted Catherine over the weekend.

Oh, yeah, does it occur to me?

Well, this would be a really hot question to ask what question

And that is that, should we disconnect?

Gordy (host)

What do you mean?

John (host)

Should we disconnect our cable so that we get back and we get even with the networks?

That's not the question exactly.

I have the question exactly.

I

Gordy (host)

know

John (host)

you're looking straight at it.

I'm looking right at it.

It'd be great if you interrupted me.

Let us twist in the wind over here.

Jump

Catherine (producer)

in.

All right, all right, all right.

So the poll question is, are you planning to cut the cable cord, like you said, to protest the networks bowing to the Trump administration?

There you go.

I came

John (host)

up with that and I gave three answers.

I had to come up with a fourth.

Catherine was very insistent on that.

Gordy (host)

You can always lean on none of the above.

I mean, you know, throw that in.

Never.

Okay.

These are push questions.

John (host)

We're really

Catherine (producer)

trying to get an answer.

Yes.

So the first question is yes, temporarily.

And that has no votes.

Yes, but I am still using streaming services, which has 50% of the votes.

And then no, it hurts too many people working at the networks who had nothing to do with company decisions.

That also has 50% of the votes.

And then the last one is no, I support Donald Trump's efforts to clean up late night television.

30%

John (host)

of the votes.

Cleaning up late night television was always just top of my list.

What is wrong?

You know, the thing is, you know, the Megas, please, you know, CJ, my Milwaukee friend in Milwaukee, you know, I really have to ask them, do you not see this as something wrong with Trump?

Every, every comedian is not funny.

They're a disaster.

They're a loser.

Every comedian is like that.

Except the Fox comedians.

Gordy (host)

Well, there aren't any.

Well, they do that Greg Guttfoil show late at night.

John (host)

That's just talk show hosts.

Gordy (host)

Those aren't comedians.

It's supposed to

John (host)

be funny.

Well, yeah.

I guess.

It's not.

No.

It's depressing.

Right.

So I guess that's their form of humor, is it?

Depressing humor.

But again, no comedian to Trump who criticizes Trump

is a funny person, so you gotta wonder about the personality, the person, this trait that Trump has about hating people, not liking people, rejecting people who don't like him.

He should just be able to accept that, but he cannot do that.

He's got thin skin.

Malignant narcissism is what they call it, and I also have stated before, I think it's paranoia.

This guy is so paranoid.

He thinks everybody's out to get him.

Always looking over his shoulder.

And he's got a real serious problem with that.

Another guy that has that serious problem is RFK Jr.

And that's a bad combination.

It comes to public health.

You can't have somebody who's paranoid.

Well, you know, those drug companies have purchased all the politicians.

Really?

Well, that seems unlikely, but go ahead.

Make public policy on

Gordy (host)

that.

It's a sad state of affairs.

That's for

John (host)

sure.

It is.

We've got a malignant narcissist and paranoia rampant in this administration.

That's it.

Yeah.

OK.

Well, anyway, that's a happy thought.

Gordy (host)

It's 19 minutes past the hour.

You know, the Packers and Badgers both lost this weekend.

Yes, they did.

But the Brewers clinched the North, the National League Central Division.

They lost, too.

But they still clinched the division.

Yes, they did.

So that was the, you know, that was the good thing.

We're just getting going on this Monday morning.

Again, a little later on, it's our go for the green and gold text to win contest in our seven o'clock hour.

And also we'll find out about vegan fest.

It's all coming up on John and Gordy for a Monday morning right here on WMDX.

Dominic (producer)

Tell me why.

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why.

I don't like Mondays.

Tell

Gordy (co-host)

us why.

Dominic (producer)

I want to

John (host)

shoot.

The whole day down.

Gordy (co-host)

Shoot the whole day

down.

Wow.

You know, they're starting to shoot at ABC affiliate stations.

Are they?

Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Yes, that's our that's our trending news.

That's awful.

Yeah, you got to know that whatever agenda you have and you're pushing as the administration, it ain't working if people starting to shoot TV stations.

OK, it's not working.

You're not bringing people together.

You're not calming people's nerves.

You're not getting out there trying to put an end to this before it gets worse.

Nope, you're just kind of letting things

Get out of hand, and that's what's happening out in Sacramento, California.

A man was arrested after shooting at ABC affiliate stations.

That's awful.

What the heck, you know?

Wow.

Well, I hope the building didn't

die.

Well, and there are people from all sides of the aisle working in that building, you know, it's not I mean you think oh, I'm gonna go after the liberal reporters or you know, there are people behind the scenes there right people from all political Stripes in that building.

Yeah

Yeah, it's a terrible thing and you don't know whether they're shooting at the building because you know ABC played Kimmel

Right.

Or that ABC is bowing to Trump, therefore somebody's shooting at it because of that.

Right.

We don't know, and we'll probably find out soon.

Unless they start, unless they start blaming liberals in the left right away, which I assume they will, get a little traction, get some mileage out of it before it's corrected later.

Perhaps.

Hey, it's

the

first day of

fall, by the way.

Oh, yes, that's

John (host)

right.

Congratulations.

Yes.

Gordy (co-host)

We made it this far.

Wow.

Do we have a would you rather lined up there, Dominic?

Oh.

John (host)

Sounds like we do.

Gordy (co-host)

You know, I'm surprised Trump hasn't changed the first day of fall.

Could he do that?

John (host)

OK.

All right.

Yeah, baby.

Take it away.

First question, would you rather

People know all the details of your finances, or all the details of your love life.

Sorry guys, this was an early morning question.

What is the matter with that?

I don't want them to know anything.

You gotta choose.

You

Gordy (co-host)

gotta choose.

I need...

I don't know.

What do you like to draw?

Well, you know, I've got a checkered pass, so I'll go with the... Finance

with

John (host)

stuff like

Gordy (co-host)

that.

It's more above

John (host)

the board.

Yeah.

I'll do finances, too.

Yeah, I'll go with that, too.

I'll go with that, yeah.

People want to see that, they can.

Alright, second question.

Would you rather have to hunt and gather all of your food or eat McDonald's for every single meal?

Hunt and gather.

Hunt and gather?

Yeah.

Yeah, I think so.

I think I'm gonna do McDonald's.

Really?

Yeah, I love McDonald's.

Every

Gordy (co-host)

single meal?

So, well, you're gonna die early.

But, you know, I hunt and gather every day, every hour of the day in my kitchen, so it's nothing new.

It's what I do.

Do you do the grocery shopping or does Anne?

I do all, well, most of the grocery shopping.

Yeah, mostly

John (host)

grocery

Gordy (co-host)

shopping.

Yeah, every once in a while she goes out and she has a few recipes in mind, things that we haven't had in a while, so she goes out and gets the ingredients for that, and that's cool.

Okay.

But yeah, I usually get the stuff.

You've got a lot of cupboards, though, in your house.

We do.

So that's why you're having to hunt and get them.

Well, the cool, and they're jammed, you know?

Yeah.

But the cool thing was the house was built by a guy who

Had a business building cabinetry.

Oh that explains

it.

Yeah, yeah

Cabinets everywhere pretty good cabinets.

Yeah, you know pullout drawers the whole whole shooting magic pantry Yeah, I love that stuff.

That's that's yeah, really good.

Well, that's one of

the reasons why we got the kitchen

the way we did you know we you know we went to a whole bunch of houses but when that kitchen just presented itself we thought oh my gosh we're buying the house just for the kitchen don't people look at the kitchen and say you know it's got to have a great kitchen or we're not we're not buying this house right yeah right

well I remember when you got the house and it was it was kind of out in the country there I mean it wasn't I mean it's in Middleton so it's not

Totally it was all really but it wasn't built up around Middleton yet.

Yeah, right all the big big buildings on the other side of the belt line We're not there.

I don't even know if the beer garden was there might have been but I don't think so

but yeah, it's really It's really built up and it's fantastic that house You know the thing about our kitchen is we can do our cooking and watch TV at the same time

and

that was a must have when we were looking for houses

That's pretty nice, you know.

By the way, are your new speakers all hooked up?

Yeah, I got my new speakers.

They sound the same as your old speakers.

It does sound the same.

That's too bad.

Damn, I was really hoping for a little crisper sound, but they do sound the same.

They're all set up for Atmos now.

Nice.

Yes, Atmos speakers.

But at least, you know, that's the one thing it has.

You can't hear it, but it has that.

Okay.

Um, did you close the books on Would You Rather?

Did you close that out?

We have to close it out still.

I feel like you guys are talking.

Seems

like we could go back in

John (host)

if we don't close it.

Dominic (producer)

We always end up with it.

No idea what he says.

It's getting worse.

What he says.

That was terrible.

Okay.

John (host)

Well, he might want to change that.

I'm gonna start changing it now.

Yeah, I'm gonna add more reverb See

Gordy (co-host)

if people can notice the change.

John (host)

Yeah, so I'll be the next poll question,

Gordy (co-host)

you know, we got so much coming up later on I mean truly, you know the the Kirk Memorial a lot of people showed up for that and one of the standout speeches of course was Steven Miller.

Oh

gosh,

we've got that

coming

up man.

Oh That is something else.

I mean, you know

Visions of Hitler in my head.

Yes, okay.

We've got idiocracy right around the corner for stuff the Midwest food and farm report and In our next hour the go for the gold green and gold text-to-win contest It's all coming up on John and Gordy in the morning on WM DX radio right here right now

Unnamed speaker

Thank you.

John (co-host)

As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point, a dumbing down, until humanity was incapable of solving even its most basic problems.

Gordy (co-host)

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you

John (co-host)

go and do something like this.

Unnamed speaker

We can duck and cover.

There's no way to survive this, you

John (co-host)

idiot!

Idiocracy!

For the smartest guy in the world, you're pretty dumb sometimes.

Well, I know that the country's not going to survive it.

We're, what, seven months in?

And it's all over.

I

Unnamed speaker

don't

John (co-host)

know if I sound depressed or anything, but I called this, you know, it's an authoritarian government.

The dictatorship immediately.

I could see that happening, but, uh, you know, once you started in motion, you're there.

You know, it's, you don't have to wait until it's fully put in place.

Gordy (co-host)

Yeah.

Pete Buttigieg had something to say about this.

A different cut from the one we used

Unnamed speaker

the other

Gordy (co-host)

one last week.

I believe we have that.

All right.

Yeah.

Uh, which cut is it?

Do you have that?

It's labeled Buddha judge on NPR.

Yep.

I think Dom has it.

All right.

Yeah.

Well, let's check that out.

John (co-host)

This is perfect cut.

Unnamed speaker

Yeah.

I presume you don't think Trump is a good president.

Do you see him as a bad president who's wrong about a lot of things or as an existential threat to democracy in this country?

Pete Buttigieg (interviewee)

I would.

Go well beyond bad president.

There are presidents who you disagree with and presidents you agree with this is I think categorically different We have not had a president left right or center who has tried to destroy companies Universities and broadcasters who criticize his government There's been rough and tumble politics

all through US history.

But that is not just different.

It's different in a way that offends every fiber of American civic values left, right, and center.

We have had disagreements over court rulings, but never had an administration that has been so ready to just say no.

when a court says you have to do this.

That is threatening at a different and much deeper level than the regular kind of push-pull of the separation of powers between the executive and the courts.

We have a president who really is attempting to become an autocrat and in some ways has succeeded.

John (co-host)

Yes, Pete Buddha judge in so many ways yeah, I mean it for him to come out and say that is He's not one to exaggerate right

Gordy (co-host)

right.

Yeah It's very thoughtful.

I mean, but that's quite an observation.

Yeah, it's not just a bad president I mean this is something we've never

John (co-host)

seen before that's right It's micro management at the presidential level and I want to also read a text here and this is from our our

unofficial program director.

He used to give us input all the time.

Doug?

No, no.

Gordy (co-host)

There

John (co-host)

is no name

Gordy (co-host)

to

John (co-host)

it.

It was 1701.

Oh,

Gordy (co-host)

yeah.

Whatever happened to 1701?

Well, I'm

John (co-host)

going to tell you.

He texted us.

uh, last Friday happened to go through the old text to see if we missed anything.

Yeah.

And he texted this hat tip to John Peterson.

That's what I'm reading.

Hat tip to John Peterson for predicting this rise of authoritarianism last year.

Yeah.

Those who thought he was cranky need to wake up.

Wow.

There was an F word in there, but I'm not.

Exactly

Gordy (co-host)

going to

John (co-host)

read that yet.

Pete Buttigieg (interviewee)

All

John (co-host)

right.

And then Matt, of course, we just heard from Matt, but Matt, I thought your text was pretty well stated.

Civic media will be needed more than ever in the coming months and years as we need our local accurate news.

Gordy (co-host)

How

John (co-host)

can we, the people, support you guys?

Thanks for what you do.

Wow, that's great.

Yeah.

We'll give him our bank accounts in just a few moments.

Okay.

Oh, oh, the stations bank account.

Oh, yeah.

All right.

Gordy (co-host)

Wow.

Didn't we?

Did we?

You predicted it.

You predicted all of this, John.

John (co-host)

Well, thank you.

Gordy (co-host)

You predicted the chaos and confusion and fear and the uncertainty, the hatred.

You

John (co-host)

predicted

Gordy (co-host)

it

John (co-host)

all.

I wish we had a Sir Topham hat clip that we could play, you know, as you two guys have created.

Anybody remember Sir Topham hat?

You've

Gordy (co-host)

told me who this guy.

I can't remember.

From

John (co-host)

Thomas the Tank

Gordy (co-host)

Engine.

Oh, Thomas the Tank Engine.

Yeah, he's

John (co-host)

the guy in charge, and he's never happy with the engines.

Never.

That's the thing.

That's why he's known for this particular line.

Do you have that for him?

You two guys?

Yeah.

I'm trying to look for it right now.

In a second.

All right.

Gordy (co-host)

OK.

So top him hat.

Yeah.

OK.

OK.

Dom is continuing to look here.

There's only about

John (co-host)

seven cuts.

You can pick any one.

But it's OK.

All right.

Gordy (co-host)

Anyway, I

John (co-host)

want to go to the first story here in idiocracy.

And that is FCC chair Brendan Carr.

We're going to kind of review some of the things that happened last week because they're very, very important in what they say.

Brendan Carr said Sinclair Broadcasting has every right to demand that Jimmy Kimmel donate.

to Turning Point USA.

This is the FCC chair telling Kimmel that it wouldn't be bad if he donated a little money, a little scratch.

Really?

I'm just like, what?

This is... Extortion?

Unnamed speaker

Extortion?

John (co-host)

Yeah.

Let's listen to cut 133.

Okay.

Unnamed speaker

According to the New York Times, late Wednesday, I'm just quoting here, Sinclair, another owner of many local TV stations, said that it would also suspend Mr. Kimmel's program and call on Mr. Kimmel to apologize and make a meaningful, personal donation to Mr. Kirk's family, the activist political group, Turning Point USA.

Do you think that's an appropriate remedy of the situation?

John (co-host)

Yeah, what do you think?

Unnamed speaker

I think Sinclair has every right

to call for that again.

What?

Sinclair affiliates with Disney.

They take Disney contract.

They have a contractual relationship with Disney and that's between the two of them to figure out, you know, what's going to make sense to make both of them comfortable with the relationship going forward.

But again, over the years, it would be unthinkable for Sinclair, for Nextstar, for local TV stations to actually say, you know what?

You know, we're not going to take this particular programming that's coming out of New York and Hollywood

Gordy (co-host)

and send this

Unnamed speaker

to Pennsylvania and Utah.

And so the idea that local broadcasters feel like they can push back, I think it's a much, much healthier dynamic for the country right now.

John (co-host)

Anything in that makes sense.

Nothing.

That is, yes, you know, if we just had a little more extortion from the TV stations around the country, maybe those networks would tow the line a little bit.

Can you imagine them trying to please, you know, all the network affiliates in the country?

Well, I don't like this program.

Could you pay us a little money and then we'll put it on.

We're okay with it.

This is the FCC chair and this is the guy this is Brendan Carr right who wrote that section on broadcasting in project 2025 This is the guy and this is their plan and they're rolling it out folks

Unstoppable all right now everybody's talking about how you know they were celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk actually the celebrations weren't really celebrations there were people who disagreed with Charlie Kirk and said so and even quoted some of the lines that Charlie Kirk is given over the years that's not a celebration but that's the way they're describing it okay but wait a minute let's look in the mirror let's look back at the

at the Megas.

I say Benny Johnson lied about Kirk's killer.

Made the whole thing up.

But he's on cable saying what he wants to say about the killer, that he's laughed, that it's a liberal.

This is their agenda.

They're killers.

They're murderers.

That left is a murder party.

Well, no one's saying, hey, you're lying.

You're exaggerating.

But they're calling us the liars.

All right, let's listen to this as cut 134.

This

Robin (caller)

is just a monumental shake up to the media landscape.

And on Monday, after all the questions we've gotten from the audience about Charlie Kirk and what happens now, where do we go from here?

Clearly, things are changing and it's going to start with the media where a reckoning is happening right now, isn't it?

Unnamed speaker

Yes, absolutely Robin.

Thank you for having me on any John.

I want to establish what Jimmy Kimmel did here because the left much like how they are trying to hide the fact that Charlie was politically assassinated by a Tran Tifa far left-wing No, see a path

Gordy (co-host)

who

Unnamed speaker

hated Charlie and hated concern none of that's true And so with hate in his heart he inscribed Antifa and far left-wing LGBT messaging on bullets and sent them downrange to murder

Charlie Kirk, they have tried to cover that up and part of the cover-up was using Jimmy Kimmel's platform to say that Charlie was killed by a MAGA conservative.

Now left-wingers are trying now to rewrite history and say that Jimmy Kimmel was fired for a joke that he told.

This is not a joke.

Jimmy Kimmel

said that Charlie Kirk deserved his assassination.

Jimmy Kimmel said that Charlie Kirk shares in the blame for his own assassination.

This is the commentary that Jimmy Kimmel made.

It is utterly and completely indefensible.

Jimmy Kimmel went on to then make fun of Charlie Kirk and make fun of President Trump, saying that he did not care about or love his friend.

And so I want to establish that this is not a joke, this is a lie.

Now ABC has a lavish broadcast license that is granted to them by the American taxpayer.

The American taxpayer pays money so that ABC News can be broadcast freely into millions of American

John (co-host)

homes.

Unnamed speaker

They have a responsibility.

To broadcast true information in the public interest.

It is a legally binding contract And so a Jimmy Kimmel misinforming his audience not only does he victim-blame Charlie Kirk and say that Charlie Kirk deserved to get a politically assassinated No, he never so lying to his audience thus creating wasn't safe environment for other conservatives other turning point activists exactly for you or me he's saying that we deserved it and more importantly that if you go and kill a Trump supporter that he will cover for you

that the left can go murder Trump supporters and Jimmy Kimmel will go and whitewash it for you so that you don't get any blame and his side doesn't get any blame.

That's what Kimmel did.

All right, all right, all

John (co-host)

right.

Okay, enough.

I've had so much of that guy.

I mean, that is all

Gordy (co-host)

crap.

John (co-host)

It's just ridiculous stuff, right?

Yeah.

It's just the thing here is that obviously he's lying about the killer He's lying about what Kimmel was doing and putting a target at all talk show right wing talk show host You know not happening and of course he can go over the top He can say anything he wants and he's on cable and therefore there is no public intrudes that he has to serve It's not like over the air

TV stations, right?

Yeah.

And the thing is with TV stations, they have a public service.

They have to have a public service, a public, you know, some, I can't remember.

Anyway, it's a public service.

You're from TV.

Yes.

You know what?

There's a requirement from the FCC for over-the-air broadcasters that they have to serve the public

Gordy (co-host)

interest.

Community.

John (co-host)

Yes.

Community.

Gordy (co-host)

Um, I struggling to come up with the phrase too,

John (co-host)

but it is a public interest and here's the point of that They take care of that usually during the week they

Gordy (co-host)

give away

John (co-host)

hours.

They put hosts on they cover community Yeah Events right that is their public service they get rid of all of that on the weekends and during the week It's network programming that does not have that particular agenda.

You can't required

24 seven every second of the day of these broadcasters to do that.

Right.

And by the way, who was that, uh, that we were, that was Benny Johnson, Benny Johnson.

He's a podcaster.

Okay.

Very good.

He's the guy who got this whole thing started with the FCC Brendan Carr.

Believe it or not.

The administration has taken advice from

Gordy (co-host)

podcasters.

We're in good hands.

It's 648.

We're coming back with more of John and Gordy for a Monday after this.

SPEAKER_03

WMDX 92.7.

It's John and Gordy in the morning.

652.

SPEAKER_02

We've got cloudy skies to start things out.

A little bit of patchy fog during the early going and temperatures in the upper fifties.

We'll get into the upper seventies by this afternoon and maybe a couple of showers or thunderstorms along the way.

Got a text in here from Doug.

We haven't heard from Doug very

SPEAKER_00

much

SPEAKER_02

lately in St.

Francis.

We were talking.

I can't remember.

what the subject matter was, but we mentioned that.

We thought he quit.

Well, he thought he quit and then we'd mentioned some other unofficial program director.

Oh yeah.

But Doug says, wait, you have more than one unofficial program director?

I thought I was not only the only one, but also the most unofficial.

Wow.

So Doug's got a little, he's got a problem with that.

A little insecure in

SPEAKER_03

there.

Yeah.

Actually, those who text us are the program directors.

SPEAKER_02

They're

SPEAKER_03

guiding this

SPEAKER_02

whole program.

You can text us on the Civic Media app.

You can also call us 608-879-8255.

I

SPEAKER_03

want to get to something that I promised I would get to it only because I have two Gen C's at home and they're both gamers.

One little more into gaming, but I thought I'd ask them

Who is this Tyler Robinson guy, you know now we heard Oh We

SPEAKER_02

heard Benny shooter

SPEAKER_03

Benny Johnson say who he was, but it was all absolutely inaccurate.

He's not on the left The thing here is Tyler Robinson is like other Gen Zers who game

It's confusing, it can be confusing.

I want to read a statement from Michael Centers.

He's a PhD candidate at Virginia Tech.

He has the aspect program out there and he focuses on the translation of online culture in real world politics, who by the way reflects my own son's interpretation by the way, so that's why I'm reading it.

He said of 22 year old Tyler Robinson's political stance,

What he was doing here with this act was very performative.

He was performing internet culture, a specifically mass shooting culture in general, with the etchings on the shell casings being memes, with the joking about having a manifesto.

It's all very performative in that regard.

And he also says he worries that the duration

of discussion about Robinson might tell someone who is looking to make their name on this online shooter space, then maybe a target, a political target, is now better than a mass shooting situation because it gets more attention and people talk about it for a longer period of time and it seems to make major social commentary.

So that's his interpretation that is actually my older son's interpretation So they're really you know again is no specific agenda.

It is more a gaming culture

SPEAKER_02

Well, you know and don't you think these I mean this kid is 22 years old.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah,

SPEAKER_02

and he's Mentally or emotionally troubled.

I'm not sure how attached they are to any political

Exactly.

Exactly.

You know, you're right.

It's a gaming culture kind of thing.

And they're not, I mean, they could change day to day what their political affiliation is.

It seems to me, you know, just looking from the

SPEAKER_03

outside.

And specifically, of course, you know, he had a relationship with a person in transition.

Yeah.

So he felt sympathetic to that individual.

And maybe that's what prompted him to do what he did.

We don't

SPEAKER_00

know.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

Benny Johnson doesn't know.

But this is all speculation, but again, it's the gaming culture that may be at the root of all of this not that we're gonna get rid of gaming Okay, just to let you know let's go to the phones right now.

We've got Charles from Milwaukee.

Good morning Charles.

What do you got for us?

SPEAKER_01

Hey, good morning guys.

I'm not sure what show Benny Johnson was watching I I was baffled by the things that he said that

Kimmo supposedly said like wow maybe maybe that was a pre-recorded show that he was able to view and then they scrapped that one and had Jimmy come out and say I'm like wow like I hear him say all of that crazy stuff about Charlie Kirk even say anything really about Charlie Kirk.

His main thing was that this guy was brought up as a conservative.

And like Donald Trump does, Donald Trump cares about nobody.

That's why when they ask him that question about, you know, how do you feel about your friend?

And he gave a quick answer and then you start talking about this massive ballroom.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

And I still say it's weird guys that we have not seen anything from this young man, nothing from his social media space, nothing.

And everything is really hearsay.

We haven't heard them

Find usually reporters are always trying to find family members or whatever We haven't seen them put the microphone in anybody's face about this young man This is all what but they're telling us they could they could get on TV right now and say Russia is bombing us Yeah, I wouldn't believe it unless I saw planes dropping bombs I don't trust anything this administration says everything that we're getting is

what they're telling us.

And we know that all they do is lie every time their, their mouths open.

SPEAKER_03

It's gaslighting

SPEAKER_01

constantly.

Yeah.

I mean, we haven't seen anything from this young man's social media footprint yet.

Right.

That's why I don't, I don't believe anything that they say.

Um, I believe there's more to this story.

I'll ask you guys, this, if you guys know where this event took place that where Charlie Kirk was shot and killed, that they always had events there.

Because my question, I asked them because they say that this young man supposedly organized this shooting that far away within a week's time.

So that's why I asked, did they always have events at the same location?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Or how did he know it was going to be at this location?

And David has said that within a week's time.

That's

SPEAKER_03

probably a designated area, Charles.

We've got to go run up against the break here, but thanks for the call.

SPEAKER_02

After we check in with news and weather, we'll be back and reveal today's very first, go for the green and gold text to win word.

The key word is coming up.

SPEAKER_03

We'll talk about the Memorial tooth to Charlie Kern.

SPEAKER_02

Stay with us.

John (host)

I believe in rainbows and puppy dogs and fairy tales.

And I believe in the family.

Mom, dad, grandma.

And I believe in eight of the ten commandments.

And I believe in going to church every Sunday, unless there's a game on.

And I believe in equality.

Equality for everyone.

No matter how stupid they are, or how much better I am than they are.

People say I'm crazy for believing this.

But I believe that robots are stealing my luggage.

Lastly, I believe that of all the evils on this earth, there is nothing worse than the music you're listening

to right now.

I agree, that's true.

Big crescendo.

WMDX 92.7.

It's John and Gordy in the morning.

Gordy (host)

Happy Monday to you.

We have clouds and some patchy fog during the early going.

We'll see a little sunshine along the way.

Maybe a shower storm later highs in the upper 70s.

And a little bit later on, we'll be talking about Vegan Fest, which is coming up soon.

We'll have a couple of guests in studio.

So we said goodbye to summer, didn't we?

Yeah, today's the first day of fall.

That's right.

Days are getting shorter and shorter.

And the Packers lost over the weekend, so did the Badgers, but the Brewers, they clinched the National League Division title for the Central Division.

So good for them.

John (host)

Why,

Gordy (host)

I broke up over the weekend.

I got very emotional this time of year.

My dream

John (host)

has come true.

Gordy (host)

Okay.

Okay.

John (host)

All right.

All right.

Let's go right to the Charlie Kirk Memorial gathering.

Quite a few people showed up.

Amazing, wasn't

Gordy (host)

it?

John (host)

Just a spectacle.

Yeah.

And at this spectacle, we saw Trump steal away the spotlight.

Gordy (host)

Well, he was there.

You know,

John (host)

it really wasn't about Kirk.

It was about Trump showing up for it and talking about what he has done.

So why don't we listen to a little cut here.

This is kind of 152.

And this is a little bit of Trump.

Donald Trump (recording)

Okay.

Charlie Kirk truly was.

He was a missionary with a noble spirit and a great, great purpose.

He did not hate his opponents.

He wanted the best for them.

That's where I disagreed with Charlie.

I hate my opponent.

It's about

John (host)

you,

Donald Trump (recording)

isn't it?

And I don't want the best of them.

I'm sorry.

I am sorry, Erika.

But now Erika can talk to me and the whole group, and maybe they can convince me that that's not right, but I can't stand my opponent.

John (host)

Good to know.

Good to

Donald Trump (recording)

know.

Jolly's angry.

Look at daddy.

He's angry at me now.

John (host)

OK.

Face in the sky, I guess.

That's weird.

This is so strange.

Oh, yes.

All right, so Trump made the big announcement about RFK Jr.'

's announcement today, so let's listen to that.

It's cut 151.

All right, this is at the memorial

Donald Trump (recording)

for Kirk.

It was Charlie who helped unite MAGA, and you know what MAHA is?

That's right, make America healthy again, and tomorrow we're gonna have one of the biggest...

Announcement have really medically I think in the

John (host)

ever

Donald Trump (recording)

history of our country Bobby and Oz and all of the professionals.

I think you're gonna find it To be amazing.

John (host)

Yeah,

Donald Trump (recording)

I think we found an answer

John (host)

you do

Donald Trump (recording)

autism.

How about that autism tomorrow?

We're gonna be talking in the Oval Office in the White House About autism

How it happens so we won't let it happen anymore

John (host)

Do you know what you're saying at this

Donald Trump (recording)

point how to get at least somewhat

John (host)

what

Donald Trump (recording)

better when you have it so that parents can help their child a beautiful child That's a big one.

I've been bugging

John (host)

Bugging

Donald Trump (recording)

somebody over there.

Get the answer to that.

Bugging them to get

John (host)

the answer to that.

We'll do it.

Yeah.

Gordy (host)

No one's done anything

John (host)

for autism

Gordy (host)

since.

John (host)

I'm so glad finally somebody's focusing on autism.

In

Gordy (host)

fact, Trump is having a press conference at three o'clock this afternoon to announce whatever he's going to announce about

John (host)

autism.

We already know.

And here's an interview with Dr. Vin Gupta about what is going to be announced.

The big surprise.

Dr. Vin Gupta

This

John (host)

is 151.

Oh, no, 159.

I'm sorry.

I just added this this morning.

Let's listen.

Dr. Vin Gupta

What do you make of this?

Good morning.

You know, this is one in the long line of what Kennedy does really well.

He reprises this playbook of taking half trutes.

or low quality data claiming that others are hiding information and then committing precious resources in this faux attempt at transparency.

He's done it with fluoride.

He's done it with a measles vaccine.

He's done with the COVID vaccine.

Now he's doing it with Tylenol in the prenatal period, which, by the way, is important for women dealing with pain, pregnancy-related pain.

This is not a small issue.

And so let's get to the data here for all your viewers.

Is there a link between Tylenol use in the prenatal period and the rise of autism that we're seeing across the country?

The answer is, but 20 years ago, there were some studies that were not well designed that

It did show a link between Tylenol use in the prenatal period and a very small risk of the development of, say, ADHD in children in mothers that use Tylenol.

or autism.

So there was a link, a small link that was detected.

What's happened over the last 20 years?

We've gotten smarter.

Science has changed.

We have better research.

And so Mika, the new research has done something very different.

What we know about autism is that what are true risk factors for autism are environmental risk factors like exposure to air pollution, genetic risk factors, maternal health, age of the parents at

pregnancy.

We know these are all very familial genetic risk factors drive these increases in autism.

That is for sure.

So what did this new research do?

This new research took that into account.

And there was a large study published just a few years ago, looked at 25 years worth of data in Sweden.

And what did it specifically do?

It looked at siblings.

And it looked at a sibling, say a brother that was exposed to Tylenol in the prenatal period.

And it compared it to, say, a sibling.

Same family, not exposed to Tylenol was a so-called sibling controlled analysis.

Hundreds of thousands of data points, ultimately 2.5 million children were studied over 25 years.

What did that show, Mika?

No link between autism and prenatal exposure to Tylenol.

So the best quality data shows no link.

He's looking at poor data and he's making a mountain out of a mole.

John (host)

Yeah.

So no need to catch that.

the press conference press conference yeah okay so that's it final word on that yeah and he does RFK junior uses a lot of the old studies and he keeps constantly trying to prove them correct and they aren't they haven't been and technology has changed since you know

20, 30 years ago, uh, when, uh, when RFK junior was putting all this stuff together, remember he was on air America for a while.

Gordy (host)

He was talking about

John (host)

his sad noise.

And now,

Gordy (host)

you

John (host)

know, he's still beating that same drum.

And, uh, you know, times have changed, uh, medical, uh, testing has changed.

Dr. Vin Gupta

The

John (host)

whole thing is, is completely different.

Now let's get to something so wild and wacky that I just have to play this for you.

This is Steven Miller.

Uh, this is a rant that if.

You know we've been accused of being the murder party You know we keep saying things that make people want to go out and shoot the left the right, right?

I mean we are we are constantly trying to get people shot killed like Charlie Kirk because of our language what we say has an effect it has an outcome and

That outcome is, you know, the right wing getting killed.

So Stephen Miller, he was at the

Gordy (host)

memorial service.

He

John (host)

was at the memorial.

This is a speech that he gave at the memorial, you know, and all a dangerous speech coming from the left.

Well, let's listen to Stephen Miller.

Stephen Miller

We will defeat the dark.

We will prevail over the forces of wickedness and evil.

They cannot imagine what they have awakened.

They cannot conceive.

of the army that they have arisen in all of us.

Because we stand for what is good, what is virtuous, what is noble.

And to those trying to incite violence against us, those trying to foment hatred against us, what do you have?

You have nothing.

You are nothing.

You are wickedness.

You are jealousy.

You are envy.

You are hatred.

You are nothing.

Thank you.

You can build nothing.

You can produce nothing.

You can create nothing.

We are the ones who build.

We are the ones who create.

We are the ones who lift up humanity.

You thought you could kill Charlie Kirk?

You have made him immortal.

You have immortalized Charlie Kirk.

And now millions will carry on his legacy.

And we will devote the rest of our lives to finishing the causes for which Charlie gave his last measure of devotion.

You cannot defeat us.

You cannot slow us.

You cannot stop us.

You cannot deter us.

We will carry Charlie and Erika in our heart every single day and fight that much harder because of what you did to us.

You have no idea victims the dragon you have awakened you have no idea How determined we will be to save this civilization to save the West to save this Republic

John (host)

Wow, okay.

Well, I can't wait for him to save it from themselves Yeah, that is one of the most shocking unsettling speeches

I've heard in a long time Stephen Miller and that's kind of his specialty unsettling and bizarre and but the thing is this truly is the thought process from the mayors this is how they think and this is the stuff that they take away from these events and now we have to deal with that and I think this is a declaration of war essentially I mean

You

Gordy (host)

know,

John (host)

they have to do away with us.

You know, I grew up in Wisconsin all my life.

You know, I knew this country as, you know, what it was and what it could be.

And all of a sudden I'm finding out that I'm just on the wrong track, I guess, somewhere along the way.

That's just.

It's unsettling to hear somebody make these kinds of declarations in public, especially at a memorial where Charlie Kirk basically wanted to have a discussion.

You know, he didn't really have a lot of respect for his opponents, but he did have, he did want to have that discussion.

Dr. Vin Gupta

I

John (host)

understand that.

And these guys don't want any discussion.

They want to bulldoze over the rest of the country because they are the good ones.

Gordy (host)

It's coming up on 20 past the hour.

And we're going to get a check of what's happening weather-wise this week with Brittany Merleau right around the corner.

And we'll remind you about our Go For The Green and Gold text-to-win contest.

And then we'll have a couple of guests in the studio talking about Vegan Fest coming up on WMDX.

Gordy (co-host)

Well,

John (co-host)

don't take your time.

WMDX 92.7, it's John and Gordy in the morning to get a look at Kirkfest, the memorial yesterday, big.

Huge, gathering for it as well.

We'll get to one more comment that's from Trump as he talks about a civil war in this country.

Gordy (co-host)

Get to that in just a moment, 23 past the hours, some sunshine trying to break through the clouds, still some patchy fog in a few places and highs today, getting into the upper 70s.

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

We

Gordy (co-host)

see a shower or a passing thunderstorm.

later on today.

Want to remind you we're in a contest hour here for our green go for the green and gold text to win contest on WMDX.

This hour's keyword is new.

That's N-E-W.

Just download the Civic Media app.

Find our station WMDX.

Use the text button at the bottom of that screen to send the keyword new in for your chance to win in this multi-state

contest every day we've got a piece of gold jewelry and $200 cash up for grabs and then that gets you into the grand prize drawing for a pair of indoor club level tickets to the Green Bay versus Minnesota game coming up in November so again the keyword is new get that in before 8 a.m.

there'll be other chances to win 9 o'clock 11 o'clock 1 o'clock 3 o'clock 5 o'clock 7 o'clock

plenty of chances okay all right we got enough okay okay um you can go to the wmdxradio.com website also to find out more and get complete rules at civicmedia.us checking our poll numbers here you're planning to cut the cable cord to protest the networks bowing to the trump administration

25% say yes temporarily, 50% say still using streaming services, but yes.

And 25% say no, it cuts too many people working at the networks who had nothing to do with the company decisions.

And 0% for no, I support Donald Trump's efforts to clean up late night talks.

That's surprising.

John (co-host)

All right, let's go to Brittany Merleau with

Gordy (co-host)

the

John (co-host)

weather.

Gordy (co-host)

Good morning, Brittany.

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

Good morning guys.

How's going?

John (co-host)

It's going pretty good.

Gordy (co-host)

Doing all right.

Doing okay.

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

How are you?

Good, doing good.

I'm doing pretty good.

It's dark cloudy.

It was downpouring here earlier.

We picked up a good half an inch of rainfall really pretty rapidly.

Some places in the state getting near to two inches.

And now it looks like you've got a little storm north to you.

Severe thunderstorm.

The only one in the state right now.

Really?

It headed towards Motson and Reedsburg area.

Heavy rain, maybe some gusty winds with that.

Hopefully it'll die out before it heads towards the Madison area, but expect rain today.

All right.

Coming in waves.

John (co-host)

Oh,

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

thanks

John (co-host)

so much, Brittany.

Thank you.

Go away.

Wait a minute.

No, I'm

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

just kidding.

Happy fall, y'all.

Happy fall.

I know.

That's right.

It's a happy fall.

First day of fall.

John (co-host)

Are you wearing a fall outfit there?

I can't tell.

I

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

almost feel like it's more spring.

It's okay here.

It's not

John (co-host)

too bad.

I think the dew points up.

That's

Gordy (co-host)

what I'm thinking.

John (co-host)

Yeah.

Feels

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

a little humid.

Yeah.

Gordy (co-host)

So what can we

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

expect for the rest of the week?

You're going to see those showers and storms probably again early this evening continuing through tonight probably tomorrow morning and maybe a few scattered showers on and off tomorrow before you dry things out and then those temperatures moderate out so high today still hitting about 80 then we'll fall to the mid 70s for tomorrow and into the week and it's rather dry actually all the way into like October it looks like so

Gordy (co-host)

okay

John (co-host)

I'll go with that

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

all right harvest

John (co-host)

time

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

yes

John (co-host)

Brittany,

Brittany Merlot (weather reporter)

thank you so much.

Perfect for fall colors.

Yeah.

You're welcome.

You guys have a good day.

All

Gordy (co-host)

right.

You too.

Thank you.

It's Brittany Merlot or WMDX media.

All right.

John (co-host)

One cut here.

We got to get to it's a Trump threatening everybody of Americans and a media takeover and this is cut 157.

So let's listen to the memorial for Kirk.

Donald Trump (audio clip)

The Department of Justice is also investigating networks of radical left maniacs who fund organized fuel and perpetrate political violence and

We think we know who many of them are.

But law enforcement can only be the beginning of our response to Charlie's murder.

Over the last 11 days, we have heard stories of commentators, influencers, and others in our society who greeted his assassination with sick approval, excuses, or even jubilation.

You've heard that, so have I. Couldn't believe it.

Some of the

John (co-host)

very same

Donald Trump (audio clip)

people who spent the last eight years trying to sit in moral judgment of anyone who disagreed with them

John (co-host)

about politics

Donald Trump (audio clip)

suddenly started cheering for a murder.

John (co-host)

No.

Incredible.

No, that's not true.

You know the

Donald Trump (audio clip)

names.

They're major losers, by the way.

That will be proven out in a short period of time.

Where is he

Gordy (co-host)

going?

Some of

Donald Trump (audio clip)

the very people

Gordy (co-host)

who call

Donald Trump (audio clip)

you a hater for using

No.

John (co-host)

No

Donald Trump (audio clip)

side in American politics as a monopoly undisturbed or misguided people But there's one part of our political community which believes they have a monopoly on truth goodness and virtue and concludes they have also projection a monopoly on power thought and speech well Well anymore we've turned that corner

John (co-host)

very no you

Donald Trump (audio clip)

tragically atrocities of this kind and Kind that we saw in Utah of all places are the

eventual consequence of that kind of thinking.

If speech is violence, then some are bound to conclude that violence is justified to stop speech.

And we're not going to let that be justified.

John (co-host)

OK.

All right.

You know, it's just it really is

Gordy (co-host)

amazing.

So

John (co-host)

much there.

They're the virtuous party rambling.

And we're just we're just terrible.

You just can't like us.

And again, who's saying this stuff?

They are.

Yeah.

It's their

Gordy (co-host)

words

John (co-host)

that might be promoting a lot of the unrest in this country,

Gordy (co-host)

but... Coming up next, we've got the Midwest Food and Farm Report, 29 past the hour.

When we come back, we'll be talking about the Vegan Fest coming up in Madison.

All that and more on John and Gordy for a Monday morning WMDX.

Unidentified

Swing it swing it swing

John (host)

it right here on the John and Gordy morning show

It is 735, seeing a little bit of sunshine in between the clouds out there, a little bit of patchy fog, highs today in the upper 70s, maybe a couple of showers along the way.

SPEAKER_13

Right

John (host)

now 60 degrees.

Time for us to welcome in Libby and Kristen from the Vegan Fest that's coming up in Madison.

Good morning to both of you.

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

Good morning.

Thanks for having us.

John (host)

Good to

Gordy (host)

have you with us.

We've heard so much about it over the many years.

I mean, this is Madison, Vegan Fest, you know, everybody goes out to it.

So what's on the calendar for Vegan Fest this year?

And that's by the way, going on October 4th from 11 a.m.

till 5 p.m.

at Lonnie Lake Park.

Okay, where is Lundy Lake

John (host)

Park?

I don't know that one

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

Okay, okay,

John (host)

all right,

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

it's beautiful.

John (host)

So tell us what's happening this year What are some of the highlights that people can expect to see?

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yeah, we're really excited.

We'll have around 15 vegan food vendors some local Names you might recognize Salvatore's Mishki and they'll and then some

People will be welcoming in from Milwaukee and Chicago.

And they'll all be offering vegan options.

And all savory comfort foods, all the way to sweet treats.

So that's pretty exciting.

We'll also have approximately 35 exhibitors ranging from animal sanctuaries and other nonprofit organizations, all the way to shops and businesses who will be selling vegan goods.

We'll also have some live music and three inspiring speakers talking about very different topics with Q&As after to answer any questions you might have.

So it's just a really fun welcoming environment.

Whether you're vegan or not, there's something for everybody to enjoy.

Yeah, it's just a really fun day.

We definitely want to thank...

some sponsors.

Yeah.

Oh, sure.

You can do that.

Yes.

You know, we have amazing sponsors, specifically WMDX.

Oh.

Thank you for your support.

Sure.

Gordy (host)

You're

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

welcome.

And the quirky dove, two of our top sponsors who we just really wanted to thank for the support.

Gordy (host)

Well, it's fun because I'm looking at your website here.

It's MadisonVeganFest.org.

And you've got a little video and then splash screen.

And it's great.

You have all these tents and lines of people.

at these tents, what are they in line for?

What are some of the things that they can get at Beacon Fest?

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

I'd have to say the lines are probably majority for the food.

I mean, as Kristen mentioned, there's a lot of other things there, like exhibitors, crafts, animal sanctuary, stuff like that, but the food is a really big attraction for people.

Gordy (host)

Is it fried?

vegetables I mean that's the only way you know when you do these events like the taste of Madison everything has to be almost fried because it's the easiest way to cook things

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

very quickly

Gordy (host)

for a lot of people

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

right yeah yeah and I think funny that you mentioned fried vegetables I would say majority of it is not

vegetables.

You know, it's all plant-based.

Plant-based.

Oh, okay.

Gordy (host)

So we're seeing a lot of plant-based

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

replacement foods, right?

Yeah, exactly.

A lot of the comfort foods are going to be like tofu, seitan, other meat alternatives, stuff like that.

But yeah, I would say...

Honestly, as far as being fried or not, you might find some fried, some not.

Okay.

Pizza, Peruvian food.

John (host)

Sure.

Baked.

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yeah, nachos, stuff like that.

Alright, and I stand corrected.

John (host)

And some music too, right?

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yeah, correct, yes.

We have two musical acts who will be, I think...

plant a variety of different music.

So little something for everyone there.

Gordy (host)

The sixties way the group called the vegetables.

So that would have been very appropriate this time

John (host)

around.

And tell us about these speakers.

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yeah.

So Michelle Stam is a plant based health coach and physical therapist.

So she'll be sharing how eating more plants, a plant based diet can be doable, delicious and fun and just making it realistic.

Madeline Krasno, used to work in a primate lab.

So she'll be talking about her experience there and how that sort of shaped her professional life and personal life.

And Erin Yermel is a philosopher and educator.

He'll be talking about how to have better conversations about veganism and having those conversations when people disagree.

John (host)

We're talking with Libby and Kristen about the vegan fest coming up on October 4th.

Correct.

Is that right?

And so, is there any admission on this?

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

No, free.

John (host)

Free.

Free, open to the public, bring the kids.

Libby (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yes, family friendly.

Yeah.

John (host)

Yes.

Very good.

And it starts at what

Gordy (host)

time?

Yeah.

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

11

Gordy (host)

a.m.

Okay, anything for the kids like veggie tails or anything like

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

that?

We are going to have kind of a kids corner.

So there'll be bubbles, some coloring sheets.

I think we've got some temporary tattoos, maybe.

Things to keep them busy while you enjoy some good food and walk around and take a

John (host)

look.

All right.

All right.

Well, thanks for coming in and telling us all about it.

And again, if people want to find out more, what's the website?

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

MadisonVeganFest.org.

John (host)

Very good.

Thank you, Libby.

Thank you, Kristen.

And it's October 4th.

Again, WMDX Radio is a sponsor.

And so hoping for a good day there.

And it all takes place at Lundy Park.

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yep.

Lundy Lake Farm Park.

John (host)

OK.

Very good.

Gordy (host)

Thanks.

You know, one of the things about, you know,

vegan food is that it influences a lot of people who still eat some meat.

You know, I mean, then you add more vegetables just, you know, from hearing about, you know, how positive it is to have a vegan diet.

So that's part of it,

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

right?

Yeah.

And I think we try to attract a lot of non vegans because I think there are perceptions out there about what

a vegan diet is, but you might be surprised.

Gordy (host)

All right.

If you try some

John (host)

of the

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

food,

John (host)

see if you'll like it.

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

Yeah.

Check it out.

John (host)

All right.

Well, thank you both for coming in.

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

Thank you.

We appreciate it.

John (host)

Again,

Kristen (Vegan Fest organizer)

go

John (host)

to MadisonVeganFest.org and get all the information you need.

We appreciate it.

Very good.

All right.

Okay.

Let's see, it is 741.

Want to remind you, you can go to wmdxradio.com and get more information about Vegan Fest there as well.

Okay.

All right.

Gordy (host)

Well, you know, I thought, you know, Kimmel's been in the news recently, of course, and he has done a number of

Features where he's put clips together historical clips that make a major point Yes, all right, and this is a major point about immigration.

I thought we'd play this I thought this was exceptional what it does is it features presidents from like 1950 and on and They're positive talk about immigration except for our current president

So let's listen to something Kim will put together a while back, all right?

John (host)

Well, we'll stand by for that as Dominic apparently has left the studio for just a moment.

As soon as he gets back into the studio, he will push a button and we will be able to listen.

To cut 145.

145.

That's okay.

Take a break whenever you feel like it.

Sorry, I decided to go to the bathroom or something.

Just walk away.

Gordy (host)

Yeah, 155, right?

You even got 155?

Got it.

145.

145 is the gut I'm looking for.

All right.

Okay, here we go.

This is Kimmel.

Unidentified, possibly audio clip

I thought the idea was to make America great.

This is not great.

Try to act like a president for once.

And in case you don't know,

What that looks like maybe this will help because it looks like this.

Past US Presidents (audio clip)

We are one and all immigrants for the sons and daughters.

The

descendants of 40 million people who left other countries to make a new opportunity for themselves and their children.

Past US Presidents or audio clip

The lamp of this grand old lady is brighter today and the golden door that she guards gleams more brilliantly in the light.

of an increased liberty for the people from all

Past US Presidents (audio clip)

countries.

I'm convinced that the vast majority of Americans today want these people to have another opportunity.

I was in the party to welcome generations of immigrants.

If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.

Immigration is not just a link.

to America's past.

It's also a bridge to America's future.

Unidentified

This is one country.

We life our diversity.

We are proud of it.

Amid all the complications of policy, may we never forget that immigration is a blessing and a strength.

These people, our neighbors, our classmates, our friends, they did not come here in search of a free ride or an easy life.

It came to work.

Unidentified, possibly audio clip

We don't demonize immigrants.

We don't single them out for attacks.

We don't believe they're poisoning the blood of the country.

We're a nation of immigrants and that's why we're so damn strong.

They're eating the

dogs, the people that you met.

They're eating the cats.

They're eating, they're eating the pets.

Gordy (host)

It seems, it seems to me like Trump stands out out of all of those

John (host)

presidents that we

Gordy (host)

heard.

John (host)

Yeah, not for a good reason either.

Gordy (host)

And I oftentimes wonder why the news networks don't put collages like

John (host)

that

Gordy (host)

together, back-to-back audio of history and the perspective at those times about immigration in this country.

I know it may sound like they're trying to push an agenda, right?

Unidentified

But

Gordy (host)

no, they're really not because those were the opinions of presidents in the past.

It has nothing to do with the networks themselves.

They can put these clips together, but they're not lying by putting the actual audio of these presidents together.

But, you know, that's immigration.

That was immigration before.

Immigration is a little bit different today.

Now, President Trump is rolling out the welcome mat for Russian oligarchs, according to Dick Durbin.

Right and cartel bosses with their own immigration gold card.

See now immigration has changed And Trump has put his own little spin on this today.

We are proud to announce this is Trump now the Trump gold card the card will be available for one million dollars But individuals do we have the clip there the one one million dollar clip?

Dr. Evil

Okay.

Let's play the Dr. Evil clip here.

It's perfect.

Past US Presidents or audio clip

One million dollars.

Unidentified, possibly audio clip

Well, don't you think we should maybe ask for more than a million

Past US Presidents (audio clip)

dollars?

A million dollars isn't exactly a lot of money

these days.

Okay then.

One hundred billion dollars.

Gordy (host)

Okay, 100 billion okay from 1 million to 100 billion dollars.

Okay, so again, this is from truth social This is Trump today.

We are proud to announce the trump gold card the card will be available for 1 million dollars for individuals and 2 million dollars for corporations

For far too long we have had millions of illegal aliens pouring into our country and our immigration system has been broken.

It is beyond time that the American people and American taxpayers are benefiting from our legal immigration system.

We anticipate the Trump gold card will generate well over $100 billion.

There's the number that Dr. Evil came up with finally.

This money will be used for reducing taxes,

pro-growth projects and pained on our debt.

Buy the Trump gold card now.

So if you just happen to have a million dollars or if your corporation two million dollars, not a bad deal after all.

John (host)

Why not?

Gordy (host)

When you think about it, you know?

John (host)

It's a

Gordy (host)

good deal.

The Trump gold card.

Nice way to, uh, oh, I don't know, uh...

Laundrom... money?

Laundrom... laundrom... I can't say it.

Can I

John (host)

say it?

Laundrom... the process of transferring money in not a good way.

748.

I want to say laundry, but... Catherine Lake has joined us in the studio.

We will find out why after this brief time out for lovely words from our beautiful sponsors.

What did we say this time?

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

All right, well... WMDX92.7,

SPEAKER_04

you

SPEAKER_03

know, just...

Just that theme alone makes me not want to do this anymore.

Well, come on.

What are you talking about?

We've got happy news for you.

We've got Catherine Lake in the studio, too.

Good morning, Catherine.

SPEAKER_01

But

SPEAKER_03

before we get to the happy news, Catherine seems really depressed about something.

So

SPEAKER_01

let's get to that.

No, I'm not depressed.

I'm disappointed.

You know, vegan, veganism.

It's, it's tricky, but your, your handling of them reminded me when I first went to my mother-in-law's house, but I went to my mother-in-law's house and I'm just dating, just dating the guy, right?

My ex-husband.

And they hear I'm a vegetarian because I was a vegetarian when I met him.

Not a vegan, but a vegetarian.

And what they did was they offered me iceberg lettuce and carrots because they did not know

what a vegetarian was.

So they had vegetables in their fridge.

We get some peppers for you, too.

Sure.

But you asked, is it all fried?

Because that's the only way you can quickly cook vegetable.

Did you forget?

What eating vegetables?

SPEAKER_03

Fresh?

You mean fresh

SPEAKER_01

vegetables?

Oh my god!

Tofu!

Meat substitutes!

It's a whole thing that's happened in the last 25 years since I left you behind here.

You gotta cook the meat

SPEAKER_03

substitutes.

You gotta.

You gotta.

Cook the meat substitute.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes, you do.

But it's not just iceberg lettuce and carrots and vegetables and a stir fry for God's sake.

Well, you

SPEAKER_03

gotta bread

SPEAKER_01

it.

Oh, my God.

SPEAKER_??

No, you don't.

SPEAKER_01

Help me.

Somebody else is a vegan in this city and knows that is a whole delightful.

Go to Vegan Fest, please.

Go to Vegan Fest and taste the world.

SPEAKER_04

OK.

Oh, it's October 4th at Lone Lake State.

Lone Lake Park.

SPEAKER_01

You let those women get out of you without making the argument for vegetarianism.

You didn't even push back.

You're like, I mean, you should have asked them.

The health benefits of it?

Yes.

Make the case.

Why should I care?

Because clearly I don't.

That's what I wanted to hear out of your mouth.

Wow.

OK.

Well, we felt

SPEAKER_03

down on the job.

I apologize.

SPEAKER_02

We're our

SPEAKER_03

guests.

Sorry about

SPEAKER_01

that.

No, you've got other things on your agenda because the world is.

SPEAKER_04

collapsing around

SPEAKER_01

collapsing around us.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

I want to remind everybody before we get out of time here that it is our go for the green and gold text to win contest on WMDX.

Still have like less than five minutes to get in the keyword for the $200 cash and a piece of golden jewelry.

You'll have other chances to win later in the day.

during the nine o'clock hour, the 11 o'clock hour, one, three, five, seven p.m.

hours, more keywords all day long and it all gets you into the contest, the contest grand prize, pair of indoor club level tickets to the Green Bay versus Minnesota game in November.

Again, the contest, the keyword this hour is new, N-E-W, N-E-W, new.

You got a couple of more minutes to get that into us.

SPEAKER_00

Just go to

SPEAKER_04

this.

Civic Media app and download that app.

If you don't have it, just go to the WMDX site on there and text to win.

Okay.

All

SPEAKER_03

right.

All

SPEAKER_04

right.

Okay.

Tomorrow on the show, by the way, Jim and Sarah from Madison Hearing Aid Center will join us.

Okay.

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Do

SPEAKER_04

you have something you want to add?

SPEAKER_03

Well, I thought we were, like, doing good news.

Well, that's right.

That is good news.

It is good news.

We're going to come tomorrow.

It's great news.

We're going to start happy music again.

Yeah, we got it.

Okay, yeah.

Well, no, I mean, that's great news.

You got a happy story.

But, you

SPEAKER_04

know, we want to get to the stories.

Well, there's one that's unbelievable here from the Denver Zoo.

Unlikely, animals snuggling together at the Denver Zoo have melted the internet with their cuteness.

And it's got a

SPEAKER_03

picture there, bro.

Could we do that too?

Could we have that cuteness here in the studio?

You think so?

I don't know what you're talking about.

As we gather together.

All right, hey, this is a feel-good story.

Olympic boxer gives his gold medal to American who rightfully beat him decades ago.

Is that right?

Yes.

Isn't that something?

That's amazingly good news.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

This is so out of character for you.

You can't even pull it off.

Well, we want

SPEAKER_04

to end it.

Somebody told us we had to end on a happy note,

SPEAKER_03

a good

SPEAKER_04

note, instead of

SPEAKER_01

depressing horrible news.

You're blaming me for this segment.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think this segment is starting to depress

SPEAKER_04

people.

Okay.

You got another good news item there, John?

We got time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, a nine-year-old goes to college to be brain surgeon for kids his age.

SPEAKER_02

Oh,

SPEAKER_03

no!

And wait, do you hear him talk?

SPEAKER_02

We're not going to hear him talk.

SPEAKER_03

Diligent barber may have saved boys life after spotting cancerous lump on his neck.

See, that's a good news item right there.

You know, that's an alert barber.

Boston opened a series of affordable housing developments to top city's public libraries.

How about that?

Interesting.

Yeah.

Anymore or trail cams leave park officials elated as rare Gower.

I don't know what that is.

Seen thriving and forest world's largest bovine.

I. Fascinating.

SPEAKER_04

Uh, Dom, do you have any good news to share with us?

SPEAKER_00

I can do over the weekend.

I was just gonna say, yeah, that's what I was gonna talk about.

How was that soccer game?

It was great.

We won.

I was in enemy territory because I am from Chicago.

I was in enemy territory, but we won.

My brother and I were freaking out and everyone around us hated us, but it was a great weekend.

It was a great weekend.

It was good news.

Well, that's great.

Good news.

I've

SPEAKER_04

got some good news.

We're gonna be on the air for another half hour at Pat Crichtlow

SPEAKER_03

right after we wrap up here.

So, you know, some of you can go to the Civic Media Network.

Yes.

And we'll be on there.

Yeah.

Is that about it?

Catherine,

SPEAKER_04

what's your good news item?

You got any good

SPEAKER_03

news happening?

Good news for us.

SPEAKER_04

Hey,

SPEAKER_03

that's leaving.

Wow.

Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

Thanks.

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Teen rescues baby beaver from River Rapids.

Such a Canadian thing to do.

Aboriginal elders lead prescribed burn and rare orchids.

What?

And groundbreaking NASA discovery.

closest we've ever come to finding life on Mars.

That's fascinating.

If you come close to finding life on Mars, does that mean anything?

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

Nine year old boy saves parents when tornado sends car flying into the trees.

Wow.

That story is out there, but we don't have time for it.

Stephanie Miller is coming up next.

We'll be back bright and early tomorrow morning.

We hope you have a good day.

So the good news is

SPEAKER_03

we won't be doing that feature again.

SPEAKER_04

We're out of time.

SPEAKER_02

we were saying.

Is the

SPEAKER_00

John and

SPEAKER_02

Courtney show?

0:00
