All right.
Good
morning.
How are you doing?
Top of the morning to your rise and shine shake a leg up and out.
There you go.
How you doing?
Just just great
man.
Thanks
for being so happy.
Happy
Thursday.
It's so nice to
be here.
Ladies and
gentlemen, another great
show is other way.
It's cloudy out there this morning.
We had a few sprinkles, a couple of showers.
Looks like that's moving.
We had showers, huh?
Yeah.
Didn't you notice the pavement was wet near your house?
No.
You did not.
I did not notice that.
Wow.
You know, a lot of times it's wet just from the moisture.
Yeah,
from the
dew.
If you checked your radar, you'd
see if you
should have checked the
radar.
I don't
know
why.
You wear your watch 24-7.
I think it would alert you to radar.
Oh, you know what?
Detection.
You're right.
It probably
has a few
alerts on there.
Usually it tells me if there's lightning nearby.
That's cool.
So here it is Thursday before Labor Day weekend.
We're off tomorrow.
We're off on Monday.
We've prerecorded some shows for you.
Some really good stuff.
Anyway,
we needed a four day weekend.
We did.
Every once in a while.
We don't take too many vacations,
but in
this case, we're taking advantage
of the holiday weekend.
Exactly.
It's 59 degrees currently, highs today in the low to mid 70s.
Of course,
Badgers host a game tonight against Miami of Ohio at Camp Randall Stadium, a rare Thursday night game.
Well, this is going to
be a night of vandalism in that neighborhood.
What are you talking about?
I tuned into Channel 15 this morning to watch Charlie Shortino.
He was not dressed in one of his $700 suits.
He was dressed in a badger, a faded badger.
Sweater I guess and blue jeans he was live at camp Randall's big money on that
He was he was a camp Randall stayed in there along with an anchor anchor boy Tim.
Is that the dumbest thing, you
know sending these weathermen out to be these ridiculous remote broadcasters.
We're here at camp Randall and the weather is
just fine.
I
can't see
anybody.
I'm standing in the dark.
Don't
hit me.
They were actually inside the state.
Oh, they were.
Okay.
Yeah.
The game is only 15 hours away.
Boy, they talk about pregame coverage.
Yeah.
I heard that they actually put new lights in Camp Randall, too.
They're
showing them off tonight,
actually.
They did some remodeling.
We were there for some event a couple of months ago.
What was that for?
I can't remember.
I have no idea.
But it had
free food, and that's why we went.
That's why we went.
The whole thing here is this.
They may have put lower temperature lights in, you know, wouldn't
that be
nice?
Kind of a more yellowish light, give it that classic feel.
I'm hoping that's what they've done.
If they didn't do it, I'd be highly disappointed.
And that'll be the last night game I'd ever go to.
Maybe they can dim the
lights
now, too.
Maybe they can't dim or switch on it.
Or make them flash, you know, like when a big play happens, just like at the baseball stadiums, they do that now.
They have those new lights.
You know, when there's a home run, all the lights go crazy.
Yeah, it said it was an LED, new LED lighting system.
So
there's going to be, I mean, the colors are going to be more vibrant, everything like that.
So that's going to be pretty cool.
RGB.
Yeah, they have access to all the different colors.
Yep, yep.
Sunset.
You know, I have something like that on my phone here.
Let
me
see.
Do you
really?
Well, yeah, it controls the lights in my kitchen.
I have no kidding above the cabinet lighting on the ceiling.
So we have indirect lighting at all times, even at night.
You know, we can shuffle around the kitchen, looking for food in the middle of the night.
But we have lights.
That's and and it's called a Govee.
Govee is really a great LED light company.
And here, I'll show you what that looks like, folks.
Okay.
No, I know you can't get it.
But there are choices like forest, sunset, sunrise, universe, meteor, aurora, lightning B, lightning A, starry sky, snowflake, spring, summer, fire.
Fire fire a b and c because people love the idea of fire
fire in the kitchen
Ripple Desert deep sea wave and
a lot of
these
things to try them all out
I have tried almost all of them up and you can speed up the light show if you'd like or slow it down or dim it Or make it bright.
What is this app called gov?
Gov is the company
that makes these really nice LED lights for your home.
Interesting.
Yeah.
Well, I found out the kids love these lights.
I actually
accidentally bought a box of it for my kids office, apartment, and I said, oh, these are really good lights.
Well, of course, I knew that.
Yes,
of course.
Why research these?
Did you install the lights or did you have an electrician?
I helped
them.
Well, no, it's just tacky on one side and you just stick it to the wall.
I see.
Yeah.
Or you can also use clips and come with it, but you don't usually need that.
are they battery powered or no plug
it in
wow yeah and you've got well mostly you can control the the lights through remote control an app that you put on your phone I see they do have a box that you can use but it's very inflexible
Doesn't
have
all these features on it.
Wow.
Yeah, it's grilling really really cool.
I
wish I could show you are you
representing this
company
now?
Yeah, what's on you're getting commission for
their secret advertiser that we have Only I'm getting the commission
on this one.
Okay.
Well good for you.
There you go And just a few minutes a little while from now.
We'll talk to Tim Slecker from busted pencils find out the latest in education
Whatever, whatever's happening here.
Educators talking about education.
That's what it's all about.
And then former US Attorney Jim Santel will join us in our seven o'clock hour and also Brandy Grayson from Urban Triage.
Well, he's still an attorney.
Well, I know he's still an attorney, but he's a former US attorney.
Okay, there you go.
I think now he's just a private attorney.
Yes, I think so.
I don't know.
We don't know what he's going to talk about today, but he's keeping track of everything that's headed to court.
Well, something changes every day at the Supreme Court.
So, you know, we'll keep up to date on that.
OK, let me give you a little update here on this video before I continue to move on through X.
What
video?
But
there is a posted X video of a guy climbing our new painted wall at the border.
At the Mexican border?
Yes.
Look at that.
Oh, I see him.
He's going
right up.
No, no problem whatsoever.
Wow, he's fast.
The
slats are so close together that you can wedge your foot between the slats, which gives you some push.
Subtraction.
Yeah, so he's up there.
He would, it only took like 10 seconds.
Yeah.
And I
don't know, maybe the paint
isn't really, isn't really glossy.
It says here a powder coating.
I don't know what that means, but it might be, you know, somewhat tacky or the ability to, you know, climb up.
without sliding.
Look at that.
There he goes.
See, I know.
We all knew when we were watching this and timing this.
It's 15 seconds and he's at the top.
And you know, it's funny too.
We talked about how they painted the one side, the U.S.
side, but the
other
side isn't painted.
I don't know why that would be because we are owners of the other side too.
The fence isn't right on this border where the other side is Mexico.
They would have a problem with that.
Right?
You can't build
right on the line.
I know that as a homeowner.
Is there a painted line?
Yeah, the exact line right there.
That's the thing.
Don't cross that line.
It's just crazy ridiculous stuff.
We've also got another pair of Brewer's tickets to give away.
Thanks to Dowdren's Distilling.
We'll do that in our seven o'clock hour.
Yeah.
Yeah, we'll be going to the game with John and Gordy.
We'll meet you there and have some fun.
That's a game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
What are we watching here on your video screen?
What are you looking down?
What was that?
Some little
toddler.
What's he doing?
Epic times.
They have...
They posted this little baby carrying old man's cane
bent over
like the baby is having a hard time walking.
Like grandpa.
He's imitating his grandfather apparently.
Yeah, the
grandfather has a cane and he walks
like
that, but the baby is walking like that too.
So boy, you know that baby is ending up on Saturday night live
someday, right?
Yeah, that's gonna go
viral if it hasn't already.
Probably has.
But
it seems
cruel, and I think that the epic times would be perfect for posting a video like that.
Pretty good.
Yeah.
All right, Tom.
Take it away.
Yep.
You know what time
it is.
I know what time it is.
All right.
Let's hit the music.
All right, Tom.
Tell me what you're going to pull.
I thought you said Tom.
Did I say Tom?
Yeah, I did.
I think you started with the T there.
I think you said Tom.
But it's OK.
I get that all the time.
All
right.
You don't care what we call you.
I called you
Boris for the first three weeks.
I
couldn't remember your name.
Boris Tom.
Yeah.
All right.
First question.
Would you rather be trapped in a small room with 10,000 tarantulas for just 10 minutes or eat or eat 10 tarantulas over the course of your lifetime?
Sorry, guys.
Well,
sometimes, you
know, when you're eating and you're not really watching what you're eating, sometimes you think you ate a bug or something like that.
So, you know, it's possible to have eaten at least a number of tarantulas
in
my lifetime.
So,
what do you think, Gordy?
Have you eaten any tarantulas?
No, not lately.
No, I would just stay in the room.
I would run around the room like a scared kid.
That's true.
It's only 10 minutes.
10 minutes, I think I can handle
that.
I don't know if I told you
guys.
How big
is the room?
It's in like a four by four.
We had a In our bedroom when I was a little kid We had a cabinet with these doors on it, you know, and I always dreamt that I'd go through the cabinet into another room very similar to my room and I dreamt that I did that once and it was filled with tarantulas.
Are you kidding?
Wow.
No, I was on the bed and the tarantulas were covering me.
So that's why
you said you would eat them.
That's why you
said you would eat them.
Yeah, I don't want to be in that room again.
You have a very
scary childhood.
I had tarantulas.
You had ghosts.
I had
ghosts.
You know, you pull the covers over your head.
I did that and I'm looking and there's an eye, a green eye where the cover and the bed met.
And apparently, I didn't
Make it a seal.
So the ghost could still see me under
the
blankets.
Yeah, that was a scary moment too.
I screamed.
My traumatized.
I traumatized my parents.
Okay.
We got a minute left.
You got another question for us.
Would you rather what?
Come on.
All right.
All right.
Let's do it.
One more
question.
Would you rather know all the secrets of space or know all the secrets of the ocean?
All right.
It's a quick one.
I
want to know all the secrets of space.
I think I would too.
I
agree.
I agree.
I don't know.
I'll go with the ocean.
The ocean's too scary for me.
I wouldn't
even want
to try to try and find out.
Well, there's a
volcano on the bottom of the ocean ready
to go off.
Space takes up a lot of... I mean, that's... How would you know everything in the universe, really?
Well, yeah, I want to be galactus.
The
villain out of the Fantastic Four
movie.
Right.
It is, we're coming up on 19 past the hour.
We're gonna check and see what's trending.
Coming up next on John and Gordy in the morning right here on WMDX, downtown Madison, Wisconsin.
You can ask me what's trending.
What's trending?
WMDX.
It's John and Gordy in the morning.
We always talk about what's trending on this program.
I was describing a man climbing the border fence with the new paint job and everything, not having any trouble whatsoever.
And Catherine texted.
So we're listening to you watch videos.
Fascinating, isn't it?
You know what, Catherine?
It's a little tip.
If you want to go to X and check out that video of somebody climbing the fence, that's why I'm doing this.
You're doing
it to
help
others.
Just to let everybody know that, you know, this is an easy thing to do.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
So, you know, now if you're driving and you're watching us, you can kind of maybe tune around a little bit and check that video out.
Okay.
Search it out.
Thank
you.
Thank you for taking care of that for us.
It's cloudy this morning, 59 degrees.
Oh, I have to explain everything here.
My God.
It's
a cool start.
Highs in the 70s today.
Low to mid 70s.
The John and Gordy show.
Hey, that's us.
Yes.
We were nominated for Best of Madison.
We don't know the results
yet.
Yeah,
we don't know why either.
But so is one of our favorite dinner spots, Sugar River Pizza.
Oh, yeah.
To celebrate,
WMDX is giving you a shot at winning your dinner with a $50 gift card from Sugar River Pizza.
We do this every week.
Get a winner once a week.
Head to wmdxradio.com, enter online, then we'll reset the contest every Friday.
So make sure you come back for more chances to win.
That's wmdxradio.com.
for your next pizza pie on us.
Let's check the poll question here.
Yeah, let's find out what's going on.
We
forgot to do that and I want to see what it is.
Do you support legalizing recreational marijuana in Wisconsin?
Right now it's at 60% for yes.
Yes, but I forgot.
So what's the question?
B is absolutely not unless the price is low enough.
That's 20%.
And only if Trump lowers the price by 200%, that's also a 20%.
Now, Dom, we sent you out yesterday going up and down State Street.
How did you do on your quest to count how many dispensaries
are on State Street?
I really did not, but you didn't make it the whole way.
I didn't make it the whole way.
I went half way.
I counted half of it because it was a lot.
State Street's long.
You know, I'm walking.
Well, we didn't tell you to go in and sample things.
It isn't long.
You went in and started sampling.
Well, let me tell you that.
Eight blocks But no, yeah, I did go halfway to the halfway point and I counted six so far I will do more today.
All right, so it's gonna be a two-day thing You stretch this out into an unbelievable assignment I
don't know I like
to enjoy it
So we know there's at least six
And
that's
halfway down State Street?
You
didn't make it to campus, in other words.
I didn't make it to campus.
God.
What's the matter with you?
I'm too lazy, OK?
Are you still saying your leg is
hurting?
Is your leg still hurting from when you
fell out of bed or whatever it
was?
That was first week when I got here.
But now, when I did soccer, I hurt my ankle again.
But it's now, it's a little better now.
It's a little better now.
But not enough to go State Street down the whole State Street, I tell
you.
All
right,
well, keep us posted.
Yes.
Yes, keep
us posted.
If you need an extra day.
I might need some help, right?
You know, I might
need some help.
Yeah, that's right.
OK.
Well, now you're going to the Dells this weekend with your.
Correct
with your family.
Yes.
Yes.
Yeah, I'm leaving tonight.
So I have to leave before, you know, Badgers, you know, the stadium starts getting really busy to be traffic, but it's going to be very fun.
You know, I'm going to go Friday, Saturday.
Noah's Ark.
Noah's Ark.
And hopefully not drowned.
We should be good.
Give us a
report.
That was the that was the place we always went.
Noah's Ark.
And we started going across the street where they have the large, large horse.
Oh, the Trojan Horse Campus.
The Trojan Horse, yeah.
Mount Olympus?
Mount Olympus, yes.
I understand it's very crowded there.
Well, it can be, yeah.
And the hotel.
Yes.
There's a water park inside the hotel, which is really crowded.
It's a huge complex.
It's a massive complex.
A lot of kids go in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, and they have the go-karts, yeah.
They have some really good...
Have you tried the go-karts
track
there?
Yes.
Yes.
It's great.
That's nice, huh?
It's really fun, yeah.
Yeah, because they soup up these go-karts.
It's not your average go-kart.
They
go a little
faster, and they're a little more sturdy.
It's a long
track.
It
is.
They have several long tracks, and they're wooden tracks.
The one that goes through the Trojan horse is wooden, so it's kind of bumpy.
So you're getting your bones shaked.
Shookin'.
Shookin'?
No, that's not a
word.
Shakes you
up.
What am I trying to say?
Yeah.
Well, yeah, I'm trying to create a visual of this, but I think Katherine will probably complain that we're describing things that create a visual that we have to look at in our minds, and it's a distraction from our show.
Well,
I think everybody knows what a go-kart
looks like.
You know, Doug in St.
Francis, is there any verification that Sugar River actually pulls that pork?
And I've seen them.
They have it there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But he says...
What he said is, is there any verification?
Sugar Rubber actually pulls that pork for 12
hours.
How far is that?
Wow.
You know, I did not expect
that.
It's, it's really good.
Really great pork.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Well, everything is really good.
Plates, everything's just fantastic.
Come into the table, seating, everything.
Yes.
Lots of room.
By the way, we should mention that Sugar River Pizza, that gift card that you can enter for wmdxradio.com, that is for the Sugar River location in Sun Prairie.
That's their main location.
They do have other locations, but that's the
one
that's good.
Yeah, we are going to location
Verona
and
nuclear.
And again, we're riding their coattails.
They have been best of Madison winners and John and Gordy are hoping that, you know, a little bit of that rubs off.
Well, we're hoping we get in the
top three because then we get to go to the party.
Yes.
That's what it's all about.
At the party, you know, we're trying to plan on how we're going to dress for the party because the theme is prom night.
You can believe this.
Are you kidding me?
No, I'm not kidding you.
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The theme is prom night.
Yeah, I think, unless they have changed that, Gen Z, have they changed that?
I think they have.
I
hope so, because then I can't wear my beanie.
I mean, I... Okay.
Well, we would see the cartoon
show, Beanie and Cecil.
Do you remember that?
Yeah.
You do remember?
I think I do.
Little propeller on the
top.
Yes, yes, yes.
All right.
When we come back from the Midwest Food and Farm Report, it's Tim Slecker with Talk About Education.
I'm John and Gordy in the morning, WMDX.
you
Remember those days when we had kind of a free world.
Yeah.
WMDX, John and Gordy in the morning, beautiful day so far, starting off nice.
Yeah, got a few clouds, 59 degrees, highs in the low to mid 70s, a little bit later on today.
And we want to remind you WMDX is hosting the ultimate listener appreciation party and you are invited.
It's free.
It's open to the public.
We're gathering everybody together on September 6th.
It's coming up.
Dondren's Distilling in Cottage Grove is where we'll be, and we're gonna socialize and build community over some good drinks, and we're even, you know, inviting you to bring some friends.
Again, it's open to the public, and we'll be having some fun there, and I think Todd Alba's gonna be there, I believe Maggie Dawn will be there, and a few other WMDX folks, and of course, John and Gordy, Dom will be there.
We've invited Tim Slacker, but it's kind of a long drive from Pennsylvania.
Well, he said he might be able to make
it.
Is that what he said?
I got to I got to check in, though, because my my trap, my traveling buddy, Ryan Walters, I want to see if he can come.
OK, Dr. Tim Slacker joins us
from busted
pencils.
Ryan Walters is the topic today.
Well, what's he
as always?
What's the deal?
Yeah.
well I mean you know he's like the like the cousin that you know shows up and you're like oh man here he is again you know oh god you know
Didn't he know that we were trying to have this event without him?
You know, the thing is, you sent a link to Channel 5 ABC, KOCO, and there's an interview with Ryan Walters on there, and I love the chiron on the bottom of the screen.
It says, America, America first assessment.
What in God's name is
that?
If you haven't been following this, this is, you know, again, one more, um, audition.
You know, that, uh, he keeps screaming, you know, Master, Master Trump, please, please look this way.
Yeah, he wants to replace the London McMahon as soon as he get rid of the Department
of
Education.
Because they don't like to
work, you know.
Yeah, don't you see what I'm capable of?
Um, the America first assessment.
So, um, wait, wait, I have a
clip.
Why don't we play that?
Oh yeah, let's
get the clip.
Let's listen to this.
Okay.
He announced the state's new partnership with the right wing media organization.
Prager you now despite the you in Prager you Prager you is not an accredited educational institution It churns out videos and lesson plans to attack what it calls the dominant left-wing ideology in culture media and education
This is the taste of the content you can find amongst its student-friendly resources.
Most gender stereotypes exist because they reflect the way that men and women are naturally different.
One of the most beautiful things God has created is a woman's smile.
They can fill a room with energy and joy.
Just try smiling and see how it affects the people around you.
They're not trees, they're wind turbines.
The government pays many farmers to have them on their land, but we decided not to get them.
Sadly, ever since our neighbor put them up, we don't see many birds because they get hit by the blades.
Last month, Oklahoma school chief Walters announced that Prager U would have an even larger hand in the education of the state's children.
Walters announced the teachers from two blue states, New York and California, who applied to teach in Oklahoma.
will now have to pass an exam meant to screen out, quote, woke indoctrinators, end quote.
The state has been facing a major teacher shortage.
What Walter's new ideology test shows once again is that MAGA figures like him aren't actually concerned about strengthening the education system for students.
What's important is getting the indoctrination right.
Yeah,
there it is.
And that's the America first assessment.
Unbelievable.
That's frightening stuff.
Yeah.
Well, I, you know, having been,
a teacher educator for, what, almost 30 years.
It just, I'm amazed that I never thought of such a wonderful way to kind of find your best teachers.
Figure out whether or not they have the ability.
Yeah, think about this, those two, right?
So blue states, so you're a teacher.
You're in your senior year at one of the state universities of New York schools, right?
And you're about to finish and you're thinking, OK, where should I get a job?
You're sending out all your job applications.
You get a hit from Oklahoma.
Oklahoma says, you know, you're like, oh my God, you know, Oklahoma.
And then the next thing you know, you're like, okay, before this application can proceed any further, we need to assess your America first inclinations because we know that those New York.
Training institutes prepare teachers the number one issue on the curriculum there is making sure that teachers go in with a full left-wing Marxist ideology woke indoctrination framework Wow Not not teaching reading and math
and
things because we know that those teacher education institutions across California and New York They are just breeding
indoctrinators and so he's gonna he's gonna screen them out um and Again, this is not the onion I know
You know this this by the way has not been very successful for the liberal states You know we haven't been winning with this propaganda network
Well, I mean it's it's it's obviously quite Evident you know creating again
you know so is this legitimate is it real um i i like the clip there the that you played because i you know you could tell that the um news organization there was like okay wait a minute let's bring this like yeah prager you no
not, not an accredited university, a right wing indoctrination ideology machine.
Um, you know, let's call it what it is, um, preparing, you know, to screen out.
Um, but, you know, peel back and go, this is like an allegiance test that is, it's.
If it wasn't so silly and weird and you peel back it's it's frightening It is it literally is frightening is saying like you cannot teach here unless you prove to us that your number one Again, your number one issue is is that you will promote America first ideology and you think about going teachers main
function are to prepare children to function in the world.
Your first and primary concern is to do what's best for kids.
And what Oklahoma is now trying to say, well, Ryan Walters, because we want to make sure there are really great people in Oklahoma actually that are as, as, as embarrassed
by him as anything.
Yeah.
And appalled, but.
What they're saying is that children don't come first in Oklahoma.
Your ideology and giving forward, bowing your head and being totally submissive to indoctrination.
on the right.
You know, it's amazing how they kind of sold this too.
You know, they're selling you on the on the idea that liberal indoctrination is really bad.
But then they sell you at the very same time, right wing indoctrination.
And that's very good somehow.
It's really bizarre.
And by the way, we talked about this earlier.
You know, can't universities also think the same way?
You know, receiving applications from students from red states.
Do you want to accept students from red states who are part of this indoctrination plan like in Oklahoma with Ryan Walters?
Do you want
to
take their students?
John,
you're brilliant.
Uh-oh.
We need to get, you know, we need to get you into some state position and, you know, maybe the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction needs a, you know, we're going to screen out, you know, people from those right wing indoctrination states before they can come to our state.
And yeah, you know, take it forward like that.
And you said, go, it's like, what is going
on
here?
You know, what is really going on and again, it's a show.
We know that that's what it is.
It's a show.
It's an audition You know, again, there are really great people in Oklahoma.
There are great teachers There are great colleges that are really focused on preparing teachers.
Well, and here's the other part of teacher education at the university the standards for preparing
teachers are nationally accredited standards and Oklahoma teachers, New York students becoming teachers across the country all have the same national standards about how to prepare
For teaching reading for teaching math, you know there and none of it I can tell you this because I've gone through multiple accreditations.
I've served on accreditation boards None of the standards to become a teacher that we assess institutions on Have anything dealing with
How good are you at right-wing or left-wing indoctrination?
It's just
not a standard.
So, you know, this idea that, hey, we know that New York and California, boy, those institutions, I mean, they're out there just preparing, you know, little Marxist, little commies.
No, that's not what's happening.
But again, he's to me, this is just him again, continuing to audition for, you know, look at me, look at me, look at me is what this says.
You know, I come on.
He wants some visibility.
Come on.
He's screaming to the way.
Well, he's, you know, he's kind of using the the Trump playbook, which is stay in the news.
Yeah, you know, stay in the news.
I mean, that's the tactic here.
Does he really want to install this type of a test and things like that?
No, what he really wants to do is continue to stay in the news.
He wants to continue to, you know, be relevant, even if that relevancy causes, you know, some form of like, you know,
This weird morning shows in the Midwest to pick on him.
Talk to Dr. Tim Slecker from Busted Pencils.
It's a podcast you can listen to on the Civic Media Radio Network.
And while it's back to school time, I need a last minute back to school advice for teachers, students, administrators.
What
do you think, Tim?
You know, go to bed early.
Get a good night's sleep.
Make sure you have your outfit picked out the night before.
Make sure that you've got really nice shoes.
Well, you
know, because that first impression on the first day of school is going to set up how you are going to be seeing the rest of the school year.
You know what, though, the other thing, I'm talking about back to school.
Yeah.
Next, this Saturday show.
Yes.
Great show coming up.
Maybe we can talk about that when we come back.
Yes,
let's talk about that
show.
All
right.
We'll be right back with Dr. Tim Slecker from Busted Pencils.
It's John and Gordy in the morning, WMDX Madison coming right back.
Living in the USA.
WMDX.
It's John and Gordy in the morning.
We're talking to Tim Slecker from Busted Pencils and we have been, you know, mentioning the name Brian.
Ryan Walters every once in a while in this discussion.
Here, you know,
we
the one thing we didn't bring up with Ryan Walters is that the video that popped up on a screen behind him as he was giving a presentation to a board.
And that was what, old porn movies from the 60s.
That's a weird story that kind of been kind of in the back.
I don't know.
You know, maybe he thought he was streaming PragerU videos.
The early ones.
Yes, instructional video.
Or, you know, somebody got in there and hijacked his presentation and, you know, set it up.
Yeah.
That's a whole other kind of.
Did they did they
talk about that on the eight minute?
I don't, you know, I.
I'm not sure because he knows how
to avoid that
subject, though.
Well, in eight minutes is a long time for me to pay attention.
You and me both.
Okay, I've already
lost interest
in this story.
What are you
guys coming up this weekend?
Yeah.
Well, I mean, Saturday show, I mean, everybody out there across the civic media network and everything tune in.
We have a great interview, a guest to just a pit.
is everything we think about what we try to bring on busted pencils.
You know, we talk about public schools being the foundation of democracy in this country and the preparation that goes into it.
And talking about, like, if you want to really value and fight for your public schools, get active, become, you know, engage, become political, and we've got
an interview with Representative Angelina Cruz from the Racine area.
She was a fifth grade teacher.
She became a vocal activist.
advocate for public education, particularly, guess what, Act 10 got her going, got her going.
And, you know, I met her about 10 years ago when she was a teacher, you know, she got active in her union, then became president and, hey, redistricting.
worked out really well because she got to run for office in what used to be a really red area in Racine.
She is now the elected representative, fully functioning activist.
Well, let's just say she's an advocate for democracy and we wanted to point out that she's a role model She's an inspiration to say this is what it means to live out civic values to me This is she has passed the America first test because she has done and put forward to say I'm going to serve I'm going to serve to protect
democracy that's an America first person and what a great person to really be there she's advocating for public schools guess what she was a school teacher and here she is now you know a local a representative taking on you know the task stepping up and saying you know democracy is in as she said we're gonna put this she goes you know it's a contact sport and that's what she's there for
and really advocating for public education.
So great role model, great, you know, just conversation.
And, you know, to the point where we're saying, working with her staff that, you know, we think we're going to have a regular appearance by representative Cruz on busted pencils.
And I would recommend anybody across civic media, you guys, you know, you want a great guest to feature on with Wisconsin, who's been there, been there, done that.
Angelina Cruz, Representative Cruz from Racine.
Well, that'd be a great idea.
Yeah.
We will finally
try to schedule her on the show and
talk about
education as well.
You know, somebody that knows what's going on and what, you know, we can do to kind of fight back this America first agenda.
Although I like the way you flipped it.
She's actually the one teaching America first,
you know.
Well, you know, because they're, you know, she's the example.
What does it mean to be, you know, when we say what, what is the purpose of America, you know, of public schooling and it's a boy, yes, it's reading and writing, but it really is preparation to be a citizen citizen in a democracy and a citizen in a democracy means that you have a voice and that there are times when you that voice requires you then to actually step up and get active.
And in fact, in this country, the freedom to go and insert yourself into democracy, she shows what it means to have freedom.
Freedom doesn't mean you get necessarily what you want, but you have the ability to step into the ring to be a part of the conversation and to move that conversation.
And so, you know, we just said anytime educators
can get active in that way.
It's going to be, you know, those are role models.
So, you know, I can't find a stupid silly joke to come up with on this one.
For many years, we've been trying to make history more accurate, teaching that in our schools, teaching more history in our schools because there just isn't enough of that.
And I think, you know, that's where we should be moving not to this America first sideline.
attraction, just more showmanship.
And by the way, I saw a list of all the lawsuits that the Trump administration has put in place of all the schools they're suing.
And that list is dependent on
uh, investigating why DEI is being used in the schools and they're investigating anti-semitism.
That's what they're looking at in the schools.
That's why they want to put all these schools out of business and sue them out of existence.
So
I just
thought to bring it up where
we run
out of time here.
We have to leave it there.
Dr. Tim Slecker, thanks for joining us.
Listen to Busted Pencils on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Good show this Saturday.
Yes, sounds good.
Coming up, we're
rocking in the free world.
Yes, indeed.
Thank you, Tim.
In our next hour, we'll talk to Jim Santel, attorney at law.
Also, Brandi Grayson from Urban Triage will join us.
It's John and Gordy on WMDX for a Thursday morning.
Coming right back.
Get up.
Get up.
Get up.
Get up.
John and Gordy.
A fantastic looking morning so far.
And by the way, the sunset is at 738.
Oh, thank you.
In case you needed to mark that down on the calendar for today.
We have to know that.
Yes.
It's bright and sunny now.
We had some clouds earlier.
We had some sprinkles overnight.
Some scattered showers.
Those are out of here now and we'll see a lot of sun.
Some clouds at times high near 73 today.
Dom, how are you doing so far today?
I'm doing pretty good.
I've been having some stomach problems.
What's the problem?
Ever since I woke up 4 a.m.
today, it's always
an
early rise.
Yeah?
It's been hurting.
Yeah.
It's probably from the pound of mac and cheese I had last night, though, maybe.
Potentially.
That was your dinner of mac and cheese.
That's it?
Nothing else?
I gotta be a better
cook.
Okay.
My,
my,
my Jen's here, my younger Jen's here at 23 years old, takes these little boxes of instant, uh, pudding and he mixes it up and he eats the whole thing in one sitting.
They're like forced serving.
I told them they're forced servings.
Oh, I know.
I didn't have a very good night.
Yeah.
Well, no kidding.
Rather.
Uh, yeah.
Coming up in a little while, we're going to talk
to Jim Santel.
Yeah, I guess you got to learn the hard way.
Jim Santel will join us, attorney-at-law.
Also, Brandy Grayson a little bit later on from Urban Triage.
They
have a harvest festival going on.
And she's going to tell us that's happening September 6th.
We'll find out more about that.
And let's see.
What else?
Oh, we've got some brewer tickets to give away.
Yeah.
We're going to do that right now, Dom?
What do you think?
What's your call?
It's my call.
Yeah.
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
I mean, who doesn't want Brewer's tickets?
Come on.
Do we have any Brewer music?
Do we have any organ music?
Do we have some organ music?
Do you dig
that?
Yeah.
Let me dig it out.
Do we have
take me out to the ball game with?
That would be nice.
Oh,
that would be even better.
We had that.
I know I'm throwing a curveball at you to see what I did there.
OK.
Wow.
Yeah.
Brewer's tickets.
You could
win a
swing and a miss for me.
We're going to the Brewer's game.
It's against Philadelphia.
It is on September 4th.
Yes.
And it's an afternoon game.
If you would like to be going to that game, give us a call right now, 608-879-8255.
It is an afternoon game, starts about three o'clock.
And you'll be sitting next to John and Gordy, thanks to Downerans Distilling in Cottage Grove.
Downerans Distilling, helping you to go to the Brewers game with John and Gordy.
Again, give us a call.
at 608-879-8255.
Yeah.
Okay.
And if you are selected, you'll be going to that game.
Alright.
Came across an interesting post on X. This is a post about Justice Roberts.
Chief Justice Roberts says that the rule of law is eroding, like we've never seen before.
Really?
Maybe, you know, he should have thought about that when he gave the king all his power.
Perhaps?
Yeah,
giving him total immunity.
Yeah.
Yeah, that is just an amazing.
That's from Justice Rao.
Yeah, he came out and said that.
Say it again.
I'll just quote the thing.
It says, the rule of law is eroding like we've rarely seen.
Maybe he should have thought of that before ruling the president above the law.
You don't get to burn the house down and act shocked.
It's on fire.
So anyway, that's a reaction to his latest comments on that and then the other story that I have here is this is one of the big stories There is US espionage on Greenland At least three men close to Trump have been exposed while infiltrating Greenland eight independent sources reveal major US foreign influence campaigns on Greenland most likely
directed from the White House.
Wow.
So that is the big story.
What?
Commentator Brian Krestenstein, he wrote this, after Trump allies were exposed running covert operations in Greenland, the US is a threat to Europe.
I say this as an American who loves America.
Denmark is an ally with the US and a NATO member.
This is a violation of numerous international laws.
Trump is out of control.
Now, Megas
are
so frightened, so frightened.
by what could happen if Russia had access to Greenland, Russia had access to Alaska, Russia had access...
I don't know.
Do they know that Trump is working with Putin on all of this?
It's just wake up guys, you know What one guy wrote this about Brian's comments about you know Trump allies exposed as Colvert operations in Greenland.
He writes cry harder Brian You're quick to call the US as a threat but ignore how Greenland strategic values protect the free world from China and Russia Trump's allies are exposing
Denmark's weak grip on a critical ally.
Your anti-Trump obsession blinds you from real geopolitics.
Wow, okay.
Well,
thanks for opening
our eyes.
I don't think so.
Okay.
All right, that's
one
of the big stories we had this morning.
Hey, let's jump back onto the phones here.
I think Bob is on the phone, calling from McConnell walk.
Bob, good morning.
How you doing?
Good morning.
You ready to go to a brewer game next to I think that's Thursday, right?
The 4th of September.
It's a three o'clock game.
You want to go with us?
You bet.
We'll
meet you there.
Excellent.
Well,
you are our winner this time.
I get round and as I mentioned before, John and Gordy will be there and it's all thanks to Doundren's Distilling in Cottage Grove.
Bob, hang on the line.
We're going to get a little bit more information from you and congratulations from Doundren's
Distilling.
Thanks again, you guys.
Yeah.
All right.
Appreciate it.
Thanks
for listening.
Yep.
Okonomica walk.
Okonomica walk.
Yes.
I love it.
Have you ever been to Okonomica?
It's
a beautiful little town.
Yeah, it's fantastic.
Yeah.
So, well, the big lake there.
Yes.
Is it
Lake Nashota?
It might
be.
I don't know.
Look up
Okonomica
Lake.
There's a couple of them there.
It's so hard to, it's such a long name.
Silver Lake.
That's the big, that's the big
one.
Yeah, that's the big one.
Okay.
All right, let's see here.
The other story, I love this one.
Now we get to listen to Stephen Miller.
Oh boy, do we have to?
It's a rant.
As you listen to this cut from Stephen Miller, he's talking about domestic extremist organizations, okay?
Once you listen to this, this is cut 202.
I want you to think about the gun problem that we have in this country, the shootings in Minnesota.
We can't ignore it anymore.
We have to do something about it.
One guy from Doge gets beat up in DC, right?
He got beat up in DC, so what do we do?
We occupy DC.
And here we have a shooting, two kids shot and killed, and there's no call to occupy all Christian schools.
Maybe they should do that, right?
But anyway, think about the gun problem.
When Miller talks about what's happening in this country,
He's really exposing the problem we have with guns.
That's what occurs to me as I'm listening
to
this rant.
Let's listen to it right now.
Here we go.
Democrat Party does not fight for, care about, or represent American citizens.
It is an entity devoted exclusively to the defense of hardened criminals, gang bangers, and illegal alien...
Killers and terrorists.
Yeah, the Democrat Party is not a political party.
It is a domestic extremist organization Look at Chicago.
They've shut down the police department They've handcuffed law enforcement and as President Trump says they have turned the streets of Chicago into a bloody killing field here in Washington, DC before President Trump
launched the federal law enforcement Liberation in DC gun problem murder on the streets of this town every other day body after body after body gun problem gun problem Washington DC Residents were afraid to go to restaurants.
They were afraid to go into entire neighborhoods gun problem getting car jacked right and left Robbed and beaten.
Yes, that was Washington DC
Now, we're two weeks home beside free.
The safest the city has ever been in its entire history.
Oh, wow.
And the Democrats, instead of jumping up and down and saying, thank you, President Trump.
We're occupying the city.
Thank you for saving our lives.
Thank you for saving our cities.
Thank you for scrubbing away all the graffiti, the trash,
the
homeless encampments, the drugies.
Instead of cleaning up the city, instead of thanking him for that,
They're saying, President Trump, how dare you save our lives?
How dare you save our children?
How dare you save our city?
The Democrat Party, Sean, that exists today, it disgusts me.
I do not recognize that party,
Sean.
Settle down.
He's got
that
well
rehearsed.
He's been
talking about that for years now.
He is just the
same
person.
Really, truly
calm down.
But truly, I mean, he's talking about the gun problem we have in this country.
They're not doing anything about it.
Nothing at all.
You know, I heard a little segment from Tom Hartman just caught the end comment that he made about guns and the problem in this country and why other countries don't have it because they have rules and regulations in place.
But the last thing I heard was that they need to get insurance to have a gun.
Okay.
And I think that was a great way to block.
the crazy people from getting guns, because if you have insurance, you're on the line for it.
You pay, and the insurance company pays, and they're gonna make sure that they're giving that insurance policy to a responsible person.
So I think that might be that one final regulation that prevents the crazy people from getting these guns.
All right, let's go to the phone lines.
Yeah, Dick is on the line with a call here with a comment or a question.
Good morning, Dick.
Good
morning.
Well to this latest tragedy.
How about this Steven Miller instead of thoughts and prayers all the time?
How about action and laws?
And yes, I'm gonna tell you something here's something else I thought of and that doesn't make no sense to anybody but me but if these Legislature people in the Republican side of the aisle for the most part both in the House and the Senate If they were doctors, they'd all be sued for malpractice all of them.
Yeah
Good point that
it is
it really is nothing.
Well, the only what they're doing something now flying flags at half staff now Yeah, nationwide globally by the way because of the shooting, but that's it, right?
That's that's the reaction That's what they're going to do.
Take the take the focus off our gun problem and fly the flags at half staff.
That's it
Nothing wrong with the country that has as you said
twice as many guns as we do people.
There's nothing wrong there.
No, no
problem whatsoever.
I
think the solution
obviously is more guns and an occupation by a army.
I think that's the real solution to all of this.
Remember in the old days when they were arguing for having guns, carrying guns, they said, well, you never know who's going to have a gun, so it's going to cut down on crime.
Anybody remember those arguments that they made?
I don't think so.
It seems like we're fighting guns with guns at this point.
It's like the Wild West anymore.
All right, let's move on to Bob.
No, Bob is from a kind of work.
He won the tickets.
We have another
call.
I believe we have Kurt.
Kurt is on the line.
Good morning, Kurt.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
I keep brainstorming how we could screw with ISIS head and Trump's head.
I've thought of another one.
Kurt just needs to hire every band out of Louisiana, the street bands.
Oh, yeah.
And bring them up to the streets in Chicago.
I just tons of bands and parades and silly string and stuff just.
Yes.
Screw with their heads.
Yes.
Yeah, I love this silly string idea.
I do love
that.
Yeah.
All
right, Kurt.
Thank you for that call.
When we come back, we'll get an update on the weekend weather for Labor Day holiday with
Brittany Merlot coming up on WMDX.
He really knows how to tell it like it is.
And I love what he has to say.
I like his fighting spirit.
And you know, he's got the billions of dollars to fight Trump in courts if he wants to.
He's
been out there pushing.
Yeah.
It is time for us to check in with Brittany Burlow.
Find out what's happening weather wise around our area and looking ahead to the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Good morning, Brittany.
Good morning guys.
You've got nothing but good news.
How's that?
I like that great.
Yeah Fantastic because we've had all good news this morning on the program.
Let's keep the record going.
No, it's not true
Well, the weather is gonna be fantastic.
Yeah, it's
gonna be partly sunny today Downright comfortable mid 70s.
This is what people sing about, right?
perfect California weather
in
Wisconsin today.
But tonight, just so you know, way up north, just in case people are leaving early for the holiday weekend, it is going to be frigid.
We're talking about a frost advisory already out
in
Echelon, Iron County, way up north, where they're dropping down to the mid to low 30s tonight.
Now here for us now, upper 40s, so it's still cold.
But yeah, we're getting a pretty chilly
up north.
Otherwise.
Hanging on to those low 70s into tomorrow, Saturday.
We'll get a little boost to the mid 70s on Sunday and into Labor Day.
It turns a little bit more muggy.
I think crazy.
And then we'll be in the upper 70s as we push into next week.
And we hold off on all rain until Wednesday of next week.
Wow.
Great.
Perfect.
Fantastic.
Couldn't be better.
No, it really couldn't and you know the Sun is still warm enough and nice enough to where you still want to dip in the water when it's mid to upper 70s So I don't think any plans are going to be ruined for Labor Day.
Well, are you talking to Don because he's going to Noah's Ark at the Wisconsin Dells?
He wants good weather.
Yeah, he wants warm weather.
It's true.
It's going to work out for you.
It's relieving.
It's relieving.
Thank
you, Brittany.
Catherine Lake has joined us now.
Catherine, you have a question for Brittany.
I have an
official question for our meteorologist.
Hi, Brittany.
Hi, Catherine.
I'm questioning whether or not our seasons are shifting.
Did you do a story about that this week?
Did I see?
Yeah.
So I was talking about the fact that La Nina is kind of heading in.
There's a La Nina watch that has been issued.
So we're going from an Enzo neutral phase.
Into a La Nina which would change the jet stream a little bit send us a little bit more water weather and cooler temperatures as well Now it's not totally in full force But we are ceiling seeing the cooling of the ocean in the area that it matters So those changes are coming and you can already feel it a little bit.
It's already
fall for sure.
It's not supposed to be what to the 22nd or 20th of
Well,
it seemed like we had an early summer and a hot early summer.
Did we?
I think so.
So things
are
shifting a little bit, maybe not permanently, but
maybe we'll have an early
spring too.
So way up north, their leaves are already changing.
They are, okay,
they're just getting
longer.
Now does this have something to do with what might happen for hurricane season?
Yes, actually.
If we've shipped into a La Nina before, so if we really do this, it is going to
increase and enhance that hurricane activity for fall down south.
So that is not a good thing if we switch into that.
Well, I think gosh, we have the NOAA satellites to keep us updated.
Wait,
wait, John,
did you know how
to get the memo?
Oh, wait.
Sorry.
Oh, OK.
Well, anyway, we'll...
It's not
funny to
Brittany.
You notice that?
That's not funny.
They are taking
apart
so many things, and that's Brittany's world.
Right there.
It's devastating.
Those are my friends.
Those are my colleagues, you know,
doing
their jobs.
My world just crumbling.
It's been tough.
Well, well, great.
Make it down to our big celebration if you can.
Yeah, that's right.
You're coming to our listener appreciation party, you think?
I am.
Excellent.
September 6th.
Oh, yes.
Yeah.
Okay.
I need a place to stay.
I
got to spare a bedroom for you,
girl.
Well, that's not going to entice her.
All right.
Thank
you,
Brittany.
You have a good day.
Thank you, Brittany.
Mark me when
I'm in the studio with
you.
You're here early today.
What's happening?
You're angry?
I've been laying into you a little bit this morning.
That's it.
It's about you, and I wanted to make sure I caught you before
you left the building.
Here we go.
It's about me.
It's
all
about you, always.
Oh, man.
All right.
Got a couple of minutes.
I just want to kind of set the record straight with this Albrego Garcia situation.
Okay, a lot of people don't know he's been
alleged to have done such and such and such, right?
Alleged.
I just want to set the record straight here.
I looked this up last night.
A judge said this about the accusations against him.
Poor attempts to tie a brago to MS-13, saying the court would have to make so many inferences that the conclusion would border on fanciful.
Including
the photograph that was doctored
to
put a tattoo on his hand.
Right.
It was just a numbering system to, you know,
reference what they meant.
It was
also just a doctored photo.
They
put it on.
It was a doctored photo.
That's why they did it, yeah.
And then a Bregel Garcia's wife, Jennifer, a US citizen, filed protective orders against him in 20 and 2021.
This is what she said about that.
She said, I acted out of caution following a disagreement with Kilmer by seeking a civil protective order in case things escalated.
Things did not escalate and I decided not to follow through with the civil.
court process we are working through the situation privately as a family including going to counseling so none of this is true all these allegations that Pam Bonnie is out there making against Garcia is is false not proven and and they wanted to port them anyway he's a poster boy based on the poster
boy yes for fear
yeah coming up next we've got the Midwest food and farm report and then we'll check in with Jim Santel attorney at law
Coming up on Johnny Gordy on WMDX.
WMDX, it's John and Courtney in the morning.
Sounds like legal music to
me.
Beautiful sunshine across the area and highs today in the low to mid 70s.
Of course, that big Badger game tonight at Camp Randall Stadium as they take on Miami of Ohio, a rare Thursday night game, right not too far away from
this really at
Camp Randall.
It looks like perfect
weather for that.
So late night at Camp Randall.
That's really, I mean, this is late.
It's eight o'clock start time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And they have all kinds of traffic restrictions around the stadium
for too dark to even see around.
No, they've got lights, John.
That's why they have lights.
By the way, we want to thank Tom Mountain Hartford for the great comment.
He says, Brittany is best.
Brittany is the good news.
everything goes better with Brittany.
Thank you, Tom.
Wow.
That's great stuff.
We're going to ascend that, by the way, to her.
Yes.
That's great news.
And by the way, I was thinking of the other lake in Economa Walk.
It was Lake LaBelle.
LaBelle.
Yeah.
I attended an overnight camp on Lake LaBelle.
Oh, is that right?
Yeah.
That's a two-week nightmare that I...
When you were a kid?
Yes.
Oh boy.
Wow.
It was a cold lake.
First thing in the morning, swim lessons.
That was not a good time for swim lessons.
I hated that.
All right, well, let's get to our guest this morning, Jim Santel from Amicus, a law review.
You can hear that every Saturday between 9 and 11 o'clock.
And there are so many things that I guess we really have to get to this time around.
I mean, it never ends, does it, Jim?
As we're saying with such increased frequency on all the broadcasts of civic media, it's a lot.
It's a lot.
That's the bumpers for these days.
Even after going through and explaining and describing and entertaining questions, those kinds of things, I always pause after I've gone through four or five sentences and suddenly realize,
convoluted, overwhelming, it's a lot.
And so if you are overwhelmed, you're not alone.
I join you in that sentiment here.
There is just so much going on and very little of it is good.
I
went through the whole a break of Garcia situation, you know, where Pam Bonnie's out there just laying in them all the time and we're going to deport them.
And none of it has been proven to be true at all.
And the judges are saying, no, no, you can't do this.
This is fanciful stuff.
What are you doing?
And
she's out there.
constantly doing this.
They had a press conference yesterday that just went way overboard from Trump and then he asked Pam Boddy and then she went off the rails again.
It's crazy stuff.
Exactly.
And at core, it's once again this huge contempt that our president, that our attorney general has for the rule of law and the authority of federal judges to make decisions.
Remember, once again, we've got two cases pending with respect to Abrago Garcia.
There's the criminal case in this indictment that, again, has been reviewed by one of the judges who'll preside over it.
And he has decided to release, he did decide to release Abrago Garcia.
Why?
In part, he's not a risk of flight.
That's important.
Number two,
found pursuant to what you just said in your previous segment, that there just isn't compelling evidence to support the allegations in this indictment.
So no risk of flight, no danger of the community here, and the allegations not sufficiently compelling.
They release him.
And of course, then you've got the other case.
This involves Paula Zinnis.
She's back in the news again.
She's the other federal judge.
She's in Maryland, where Abrigo Garcia's spouse has brought this challenging the immigration status.
Justice has said in a number of different orders, don't you dare now deport him until we get all this adjudicated.
She's now scheduled a hearing down the road.
He's back in custody.
It is just so convoluted, as you say.
And it fundamentally comes from this notion that the administration, the Department of Justice, doesn't care what judges are saying.
As the judges have said, you need to follow the rule of law.
these folks, our elected and appointed representatives, have simply decided that they're not going to do that, that the judges are powerless.
We engage in name calling, which of course my president does on a regular basis, and dismiss all of this as just contrary to our policies.
No, no, there's a process here.
It is afforded every person in the United States.
I mean, if there was ever an argument against weaponizing government, this would be it.
They have picked one person, and they're just going after them.
Right.
Absolutely.
And again, in and out of custody.
Yes.
And again, all in the wake of plainly machinations.
And we forget, we don't forget actually, we always remember that the initial representation by the government was that this was, remember this administrative era, he was deported initially among the 238 to El Salvador by mistake.
And we had an assistant United States attorney appears in front of Paul Zinnis and confirms that and she says, okay, right?
You know, get him back here.
And that's the frustration of months of things.
What happens to that assistant United States attorney?
He is suspended.
And then our deputy attorney general fires him for not being a good advocate on behalf of the United States of America.
That's the United States of America in 2025.
Wow.
Thanks for reminding us exactly how that all happened.
That's something else.
Let's get to the federal judge who dismissed these lawsuits against the judges in Maryland, right?
Right, right.
What is that
all about?
What is that?
Yeah, I begin with laughter only because it is just frivolous.
It is ridiculous, but it's also serious.
So what happens is Paula Zinnis and other judges, the same district,
are entering orders to basically say that before you can go ahead and deport people.
If there are immigration cases pending, gotta give us some time to figure all this out because there's so many of these cases.
So the judges enter a kind of administrative order saying, do not deport until we can decide whether or not do a process been afforded.
What happens is Pam Bondi decides she doesn't like that by these judges.
And so, and I think it's unprecedented, I'm gonna be able to find any precedent for it.
She sues all
of the judges.
Every judges turns around, sues them and says, knock it off.
Don't do this anymore.
And because, of course, it's in Maryland, can't be tried by a judge in Maryland.
You've got another judge, Tom Cullen.
And he says that the lawsuit is novel, which is giving it a lot and potentially calamitous.
And it basically says this is frivolous.
He dismisses it against all 15 judges along the way.
He takes some important shots and he follows up.
what we're talking about right now.
He says, you know, when you're talking about federal judges, he lists them all being left wing, liberal, activist, radical, politically minded, rogue, unhinged, outrageous, oversellous,
crooked and worse, he said.
None of this.
None of this is helpful.
And then goes on to say, and here's the language again.
So much about his order that should be written on in every textbook these days.
He says, although some tension between the coordinate branches of government is a hallmark of our constitutional system, this concerted effort, and yes, he's talking about your attorney general and your president by the executive to smear and impugn individual judges
who rule against it is both unprecedented and unfortunate, goes on basically to say, case dismissed, knock it off, don't do this, no basis for doing it, you're done.
And again, not only does he do resolve this, again...
plainly to the dismay of the administration, but tells them along the way, says, you know, you've got all the alternatives.
If you don't like what the judges are doing, you can appeal.
Gosh, there's a novel idea, Pam Bondi, right?
That I think they taught you, maybe in law school, but says, also his brother thinks they're out there.
He says, but instead you chose a different and more confrontational path.
The executive decided to sue and in a big way.
case dismissed.
And again, it is a decisive statement by a federal district court judge.
Again, his name is Thomas Cullen.
We should identify and recognize the significant work of federal judges who are the bastions pushing back on some of this.
Cullen, C-U-L-L-E-N.
And he is today, again, my hero, if you will, in terms of trying to put an end to some of this abject.
craziness coming out of the department.
I just love his comment.
I do want
to
get that.
We'll try and find that.
And it seems like these judges are good for them for pushing back, but they're the only ones that are pushing back in the government.
The Congress is completely
out to lunch.
And
it's
not Democrats.
We're
talking about Republicans.
They
have control.
There's no oversight on any of these violations of the Constitution.
That's not going on in Congress.
You've got a Supreme Court that, again, as we've talked before, shadow docket, giving the president authority to do all kinds of things without any description.
Simply go ahead and do it.
Again, you've got some other heroes on the Supreme Court.
Their names are Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan and Katanji Brown Jackson.
But they're losing.
They're in the minority.
They're speaking out against this.
That's going on.
There's a little bit of another hint out there that maybe there's some federal
grand juries out there.
We don't know about what they're doing.
We shouldn't.
But there's some grand juries out there that apparently in Los Angeles, maybe in the District of Columbia, that are refusing to indict people.
Here's a report coming out of, again, New York Times.
Remember this fellow we talked about, his name is Sean Dunn.
He's the sandwich thrower.
Yes, yeah.
He's the one.
He's right.
And apparently their point is that the grand jury refused to indict him.
Good for them.
These are the people of the United States of America saying, what are we doing?
We're not going to bring criminal charges for someone who throws a turkey with mayonnaise and lettuce at a government official.
That's an abusive process.
The grand jury's maybe out there also pushing back.
I know, you know, the administration saying that it was a big sandwich.
And I'm
not
kidding.
That was a subway.
It was
a one footer.
It
was a foot longer.
Well, OK.
How devastating that was.
I mean, just watching the video, it's almost hilarious that they all went after this guy, and he was running like hell.
After throwing the
sandwich.
And the other pop culture part of it, of course, is I think you know this.
that that image of him with the sandwich in his hand, his arm cocked back about to throw it, that has become a major feature of Washington, D.C.
It's being posted all around Adams Morgan, other places, and you can get t-shirts, you can get bumper stickers, you can get hoodies with that image of him doing that.
Again, he's been fired, of course, by this administration used for the Department of Justice, but he's become a pop star icon for doing this, and thankfully the grand jury now, along with that,
So it's no, no, no, no, no.
I have to get that.
Sure.
I have
to get that.
That's fantastic.
Hey, by the way, I have a post here on X and this is just laughable.
Chief Justice Robert says the rule of law is eroding like we've rarely seen.
How do you like that, huh?
Yeah.
Chief
Justice.
Yes.
Right.
John, let's talk about what you did on July 1 of last year when you basically said that the president is immune from prosecution for crimes committed in office.
And oh, by the way, you also gave him the express authority to undermine the rule of law by saying, a president's got to be strong and muscular and virile and got to be able to respond quickly to these things.
And so go ahead and do that.
John, that's what you wrote.
That's what you wrote 14 months ago.
Yeah.
And now you're bemoaning the fact that the rule of law is falling apart.
No kidding.
Yeah, it's that amazing.
Right?
Yeah.
The book end to that, of course, is just a couple of months ago, you also said, president can't be stopped by going into one federal district court who might say that, oh, by the way, the 14th amendment has meaning.
Can't do that either.
So the book end of those, John, of those two opinions, you are responsible for precisely the thing you're complaining about.
Wow.
I know, it doesn't even understand the implications.
I mean, the ramifications of the decisions coming out of our Supreme Court.
It's destroying this country.
They've done it with the Second Amendment.
They've done it all over the damn place, you know?
Money is free speech, everything.
Supreme Court has been destroying this country.
It's not so much the Congress.
Jim, we need to leave it there.
We appreciate you being with
us.
Talk to you
again
next
week.
Always a pleasure, gentlemen.
All right.

And also, we're off on Monday, Labor Day Monday.
So it'll be a long four-day weekend for John and Gordy and Dom.
Yeah, I'm excited.

It's the Dells.
It's the Dells.
You've never been to the Dells.
No, I'm an Illinois baby.
You know, I was born in... Born in...
Okay.
Well, keep an open mind when you go
up there.
Oh,
no.
What's that
supposed
to be?
I heard there's a
lot of mini-golf, you know?
You're focused on the
mini-golf.
I
mean, yes, there are a number of mini-golf places up there, at least a half a dozen of them.
I would go to some of the other odd attractions
if I were you.
There's like 30 water parks, too.
You have to be able to talk about the delts and other people.
Go-karts.
Agreed, but there's one mini-golf place.
Yeah.
that has 90 holes.
And I want to go there.
That's insane.
That's going to take four hours.
I'm so excited.
I'm going to burst.
Why go to Noah's
Ark?
Yes.
Be sure to go downtown too.
Check out all the shops there.
Oh, yes.
Definitely.
There's some real shops there.
Go down the strip there.
You'll find a lot of fun.
All right.
Anyway, hey, we talked about socialism and fascism yesterday.
I looked this up.
I just wanted to kind of clarify.
The socialism often involves widespread
state or collective ownership of the means of production.
While
fascism, and this is what we're doing right now, fascism features a mixed system where the state directs private businesses toward national goals with state ownership usually limited to essential services or strategic industries rather than the wholesale nationalization seen in some other socialist models.
So we are...
Going into a fascist system of government whether you like it or not It's there
by
the way I looked up these t-shirts that Jim Santel was telling us about
the
sandwich throwing t-shirts Freedom it is really truly incredible.
I got a
sandwich protest shirt.
I'm ordering one and it snack big resist big Lee.
Yeah
All good stuff.
That's gonna do it for us for today and for this week, but we will talk to you with a brand new show next Tuesday.
We hope you have a great Labor Day holiday weekend.
Yeah.
Stephanie Miller is next.
Have a great day so long.
