Like a fine wine aged to perfection, until the bottle shatters against the rocks of history, two ancient warriors of radio broadcasting take to the airwaves of Madison for anyone brave enough to listen to the unvarnished truth, or something like that.
It's John and Gordy in the morning on 92.7 WMDX.
Happy Monday.
Yeah, happy Monday to you.
I know you were out there shopping for Maxwell Street days.
How did that go for you?
Did you pick up a lot of items for the house?
No.
No,
I didn't.
Yeah.
You did.
Did you go?
I did go.
I walked up and down.
I greeted some of the people along the way and it was a
good time.
Okay.
Good weather.
You welcome them to Madison.
Welcome them to
Beautiful State Street,
which is
looking very calm this morning and very clean.
Yeah, they do a good job of cleaning State Street
over
there over again.
Yeah, every day.
But there's a piece of paper around the right at the bus stop.
Oh, I see it in a bottle by that
bed.
Yeah, see what there's
something over
there.
They had to take care of that.
They didn't they missed that.
Well, yeah, we'll see them clean it up this morning.
We always do.
Each and every morning we watch the leaf blower guy, the sidewalk buffer.
Yeah.
Last week,
last Friday, they had three leaf blower guys.
I've never seen a triple like that.
Well, they had to get ready for
Maxwell Street Days.
Well, that's it.
Yeah.
Clear out the dust off the sidewalk.
But it worked.
You know, so many people came down here to see it.
And I think that that.
was a big plus, right, Dom?
Yeah, I actually got a shirt from Maxwell Street Days.
I also went out there.
What day did you go out, Gordy?
I don't know.
No.
Wow.
OK.
It all kind of blurs together.
Friday, Saturday.
I don't
know.
What did you get?
I got a long sleeve shirt, which doesn't make any sense, because it's really hot out there.
But yeah, I got a long magenta, just plain shirt.
Genta.
Yeah.
And it was only five bucks.
A button down shirt?
Such a deal.
No, it was just no button down.
The most plain shirt you'll ever think of.
I'll bring it in tomorrow and you guys can see it.
All right, well, we'll be
the judge, you know.
It's looking nice and clear this morning, although there's a little bit of haze.
Again, we're gonna get a little bit of smoke from Canada
or
something.
Really?
Yeah.
That's back
again.
Yeah.
But otherwise, we'll see hazy sunshine today and high close to 80.
Right now it's 59 degrees nice and cool and low dew points.
Two points are back in the 50s.
Yeah.
So that's pretty good.
You know, you mentioned Hazy Sunshine.
Yeah.
That was a garage band in Milwaukee.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Hazy Sunshine.
We had a garage band called Liquid Sunshine.
Oh, see?
In the suburbs of
Chicago.
Isn't that something
how all of that worked
out in
those
old days?
Ah, yes.
All
those
funny names.
And we had so many hopes, wishes, and dreams.
And here we are with Trump as president, kind of dashing every, every one of those dreams, smashing them and stepping them until they're just unrecognizable.
But that's OK.
It's just
another day in America.
We can just basically start all over again.
You can go through the 60s and all the women's movement and the sexual revolution and everything else.
Just do it all
over again.
Good
God.
Do you have a good weekend?
It seemed like you're in an upbeat chipper mood this morning.
Um, yeah, I had a pretty good... I had a pretty good... He made you
start barking orders at everybody.
Why do
we do that?
We need to do this.
I want final say and everything.
And then I
took
out my judge's mallet
instead of
putting on the desk.
What'd you do this week?
I wanted to hear, you know, Spotlighting, right?
That's what it's called.
Is that
Spotlighting?
Best of yeah, it's best of us two separate.
They're separate spotlighters like the Actually, no, they are the same Yeah, so
anyway,
you know, I
heard this segment
and
I wasn't yeah, I want something more
Crazy, you know, okay stuff that we had we have we talk crazy stuff on this program only because you know, we're presented with crazy stuff shiny objects that we like to present everybody each
and every morning well for people that don't know we're talking about the spotlight
airs on the weekends,
and it's
sort
of the
best
of every program on Civic
Media.
Everybody contributes a little something
that
they've done during the week, and they put it all together, and it's on a
spotlight.
It's great
stuff.
Anyway.
Okay,
no, no, never mind.
What did you want to say?
Get to your point.
I'm done with it.
Oh, are you?
Yeah.
Sorry.
All right.
Choked up now.
All
right.
I
did want to mention that the, you know, the big deal over the weekend was the Coldplay concert.
It was.
So that was, I guess it was just, it was a perfect night for this thing.
I mean, I saw
some
pictures and some video and it was all just beautiful.
And people loved it.
Do we have any Coldplay music going to throw something on?
The stars under the sky or the sky's under the star or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sky full of stars, right?
We got that
right.
Sky full of stars, yeah.
Yeah, this is when they're big hits.
That's
great.
Anyway, yeah, I guess it all went off very well.
They only had two arrests.
So, you know, very calm crowd.
Yeah.
You know, and it was a good time.
Two arrests,
that's great.
Of
course, traffic and parking around my area and my neighborhood.
Uh-oh.
Forget about it.
It's crazy.
You sound angry, kind of bottled up a little bit.
I just wanted to let loose.
I was...
It's ready to offer parking to anybody that wanted to park.
You know really
far away.
You know
you didn't get a
hundred bucks Just parking my lawn.
I don't care.
You didn't get any money.
That's why you're angry.
That's what the
That's what the price was around around
really
hundred
dollar
parking I saw signs all over the place on
Regent Street
a hundred dollars to park.
I heard the tickets were
way, way too expensive as well.
But it was crazy.
Sometimes I tune into CNN on serious radio.
So you just get audio.
But they did play a clip from Coldplay at Madison at Camp Rendle.
And apparently the Jumbo Tron showed a couple.
Well, I don't know what they showed.
I could not see it because it's on CNN.
But on on serious
radio.
No, Chris Miller.
Chris Miller?
So what did they
show?
What's Chris's last name?
It's not Miller, is it?
I
don't remember.
Anyway.
No, but he did make reference to that video and just said, just so you know, we're turning on the cameras now.
So put on your makeup and, you know, get ready.
Yeah, it was an astroma.
Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was placed on, well, actually was placed on leave after he got caught.
He's resigned now.
Oh,
he
resigned.
Yeah, I
heard that overnight.
Yeah.
What?
This was the guy, you know, that was caught on camera with the,
uh, with the human resources.
That was on
Wednesday night.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The thing at
Camperando
was Saturday night, their first show since the Wednesday
night incident.
So now everybody's wondering what Coldplay's gonna show next.
who's gonna get fired next, who's gonna be embarrassed next.
Yeah, well.
Well, that's one way to go to a concert.
Yeah, but anyway, I guess the concert, it all went just fine
Saturday
night.
That's
right.
Yeah, no big deal.
And yeah, I think they should have more concerts there.
I mean, everything, you know, they had that Morgan Wallen concert, that's Friday, Saturday night concert, two nights, about three weeks or so ago.
That went well.
So more, more concerts at Camp Randall,
I say.
Bring them on.
The John and
Gordy EV shuttle bus.
Yeah.
Could certainly take people to Camp Randall for the next big concert.
You know, and that could cost a hundred dollars.
Yeah, we could roundtrip though.
We could make a little.
Yeah, we can make a little pocket change there.
Why not?
Well, it's not a truck, necessarily.
It's a very slick car you got there.
Did you go out and drive around all weekend?
I did.
I took a little walk.
I drove it down to the charging station about a block away from me.
We still don't have a charger in the house, which turned out to be pretty much a surprise nightmare for me.
Now let me ask you when you, because I don't have, you know, I don't have an
EB.
So when you go to the charging station, what do you, how does that work?
Do you have to pay for the charge?
Yes.
Okay.
And how much, how much typically is it
when
you charge up there?
Well, we were there about four hours, you know, I dropped the car off there.
I started charging it and walked back home.
And about four and a half hours later cost about 450 for charging up.
I guess we got about
125 miles added okay to the tank supposedly okay tank so we can get up to 335 we're yeah
pretty close I wanted to I forgot that when you were showing it to me and you know thanks for letting me drive it that was fun
I didn't hit anything.
With all the cameras.
My God.
It's like a spaceship in there.
But I never looked under the hood.
I wanted
to take a
look at the engine.
And I forgot to do that.
I wouldn't know how to open the engine.
Really?
You don't know how to open
the hood?
I have no idea.
Seriously?
I haven't gotten to that point.
But I will.
Let's do that right after the show.
No, I don't have it with me.
I have the Prius with.
But.
You drove the Prius to there?
Yeah.
Why?
You know the thing here about the charging stations you have to now I'm in the Mg&E area.
Okay, right, so You sign up with Mg&E and you get a special deal for charging your EV yeah, and they have charging stations where Mg&E teams up with What is it called PowerPoint or something like that?
That's where you get your PowerPoint.
That's where you
Plug in your car.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
So anyway So you do that and and this is a huge company by the way So MG&E is working through them.
You get a discount for plugging in your VP.
That's it and it's wonderful But for some reason I I have charged the car twice now with this power station Yeah, and this time it didn't have any of my information except me and you know my where I lived and all that stuff I didn't have the credit card that I was using and it was just weird because I was like
I've done this twice.
All you have to do is, you know, tap the screen and that's it.
You should be ready to go.
Any card.
But they wanted it on file.
They wanted me to enter it into the software, which I have an app on my phone, because you can check your app and see how your car is doing at the charging station, wherever it is.
That sounds
very convoluted and involved.
It's
too complicated.
You see the thing here is I wish somebody had told me this.
They didn't explain that to me.
I'm learning the hard way and the thing is some of these EVs come with a charging cord, the plug-in, and this car did not.
Oh, this even knew it doesn't come with it.
So I'm like scrambling to come up with just even a home charger right out of the AC outlets in your in your home.
It takes about four days to charge that way.
But I'm ready to go that route right now.
I'm just like, how do you do this?
Because I have an 100 amp panel right in my home.
And I didn't realize you have to have a 200 in order to get the
L2 level two chargers you didn't really research
this very well
Well, no, I could have I did research it only I didn't know I had a hundred amp panel I we just got new panels in the house And I didn't realize that they just replaced the old ones with the with the new ones But but they didn't up the amps they didn't up the amps because yeah, I mean that may involve even more work more time more money Well, you're in trouble now.
I am in trouble
I'm on the run, man.
I'm an outlaw.
Okay.
Thanks for the
update.
I
was hoping you'd bring the car in.
You asked me, so I told you, okay.
I was actually going to try and explain this on the radio, like I am right now, but in a more coherent way.
There's nothing coherent about EV charging, believe me.
You'll have another chance to explain everything.
Well, thank you.
Yes, maybe with Pat Crichtlow.
He'll just sit through his eyes, glazed over.
That's right.
We're going to be on his show later today.
And then make you gone on Wednesday afternoon.
Yes.
I'll go through this again.
Great.
And by that time, we'll have a
fine tune.
OK.
OK.
Hey, coming up next, we're going to check in with Pam Yonkey and find out how things went at the Dane County
Fair
over the weekend.
And later, Paul Soglin, former Madison mayor,
and Abby Abramovich from Dowdurn's Distilling all coming up.
You need the room, you need the space You gotta find yourself a swinging place You gotta fly, you gotta soar You gotta live, a little more Don't try and break it

Yeah, you just get on the civic media app and get on the WM DX part of that app and push the button that says voice note and you can send us a voicemail It's 23 minutes past the hour beautiful weather for today and two points are low and so humidity is also low and high this afternoon about 80 degrees Right now it's 59 here
And let's check in with Pam Yonkey, the fabulous farm babe.
Good morning Pam, how are you?
Morning guys, morning, yeah, not too bad.
This is pretty comfortable compared to what I think we're gonna be living with later this week.
I know, it's supposed to heat up by Wednesday, so we'll
take it
for today, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, for today.
The it's always like this.
There's certain events.
You know how we always talk about when it's boys basketball state finals, there's always a nice storm or some kind of nasty weather.
Every time the Rock County fair happens, there's this kind of heat.
Those poor folks, I could just
If you, if you want to lay down money in Las Vegas bet on 90 for the Rock County fair, you are, you are going to see a return on your investment.
I'd love to know if they could handicap that.
So
that's happening this week, right?
They
should change the time they hold
it, you know?
Yeah, right.
Yeah, you're right.
They are going to be bringing everything in starting today.
And some of the judging on some of the projects that go home will also start today.
But like I said, for the most part, the real action gets started closer on Wednesday.
And now there's another county fair going on, the Columbia County Fair up near Portage.
Yeah, that'll get started again later this week with a lot of activities.
That's pretty easy fairgrounds to find right off the main drag up in Portage.
So yeah, I'm trying to figure out exactly what my staff and I are going to
to have the time to do.
We've got a FFA foundation goal folding today and I'm glad that the weather is going to cooperate and be halfway decent today because like I said later this week it could get challenging again.
Farmers are going to have to do their best job trying to take care of their livestock themselves of course and just mitigate anything they can for the heat.
Isn't there a fair out there someplace, the World's Fair?
What is it, the Lodi World's Fair?
They call it the World's Fair.
They don't settle for a county.
I don't
think so.
I thought there's one out there someplace.
It's
called Lodi Agricultural
Fair.
That's not
it.
Maybe I just have the wrong time.
Richland Center World Fair.
I think you're making
stuff
up.
Okay, well,
okay, I'm gonna stop trying.
I know there are a lot of other cities I could just put in that place, but I'm not gonna do it.
All right, well, that's good to know.
How did the Dean County Fair go?
You know, I think it turned out really well.
Like I said, I had some real concerns about weather on Saturday morning for our Farm Babe Boogie tractor parade,
but that
all ended up to be not an issue because my tractor drivers figured after the rain moved through in the morning, they loaded up and showed up.
And I really want to say thank
you again
to all of them that made the extra effort.
You know, I don't, and for people that saw us at the fair, just stop and think that.
that cost those people money to load those tractors.
Diesel is not cheap these days.
Just finding somebody that's got a CDL to drive some of those rigs in is a stretch and they receive nothing from me except a free pork sandwich, a 4H potato from the potato stand and cheese curds or cream puffs from the Storten FFA alumni.
So there are no high stakes game if you know what I'm saying.
And I just really appreciate them making the time and the effort to
to come and join us for that quick pray.
But boy, the kids sure love it.
I'll tell you.
One of my guys, Bill Mitchell, from by McFarland was busy, busy, busy.
He lets kids climb on his tractor and, you know, get a feel for it.
And every little, every little kid, boy or girl, seemed to want to all of a sudden be a tractor
driver.
Well, glad it went well.
It was raining earlier in the morning.
We were going to come out and see you, but,
you know,
checked in with you, but oh well.
John and Gordy melt in the rain, so we could not
be
there.
Hey, you know, you mentioned... I was sold tickets for that.
You mentioned that there's a, you know, sweet corn is like on the horizon for all of us.
How's the sweet corn crop looking this year?
Well, I think we'll know a little bit more, maybe as soon as midweek, everybody knows that we made, we pretty much made knee high fight by 4th of July.
But here's a couple little things that you may not realize.
The fields that you drive past, I think we might have talked about this before, the fields that you drive past, when you see corn in a field, chances are that is corn only for cows.
There's a distinct difference between the type of corn that we grow for cows, for livestock feed, and the sweet corn that you and I consume.
That will generally have a finer stock.
It will generally
be a little bit shorter on the top of the plant will be a very, very light in color.
thing.
You get closer, take a when you buy your sweet corn on a corn cob, always have a corn cob always have an even num
Take a look at your corn cob when you pick it this year as you're mowing around it with your teeth.
Try to keep count and you'll find that it's always an even number.
Also, Sweet Corn has about 800 kernels.
in 16 rows.
That's an average, just an average.
You might see some more, some less, but that's kind of an average.
And like I said, remember that corn is pretty much grown everywhere in the world, not necessarily sweet corn, but corn is grown everywhere in the world except Antarctica.
That is courtesy of my friends from the corn growers telling me all that kind of fun stuff this morning.
But it could be coming a week, boys.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
It's a little bit later than usual, but we should be getting it.
All right,
excellent.
Well, great, great news about
Corn.
Sweet corn.
I had
no idea.
Corn trivia.
Here you
go.
I'm going to be testing my corn cobs now.
Pam, you have a
great day and a great week.
We'll talk
to you on Friday.
All right.
That's Pam
Yocke.
Thanks, fellas.
Pam Yocke,
the fabulous farm babe.
Great stuff.
With the Midwest Farm Report, which is actually right around the corner, and then we'll be back with the idiocracy on John and Gordy in the morning.
Human evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence with no natural predators to thin the herd.
Oh my God!
There was a place without boundaries, a place without limits.
Welcome to Costco.
I love you.
A place that is about to be...
I love you too.
...violated.
Let's go.
Diocracy.
You're the smartest guy in the world.
You're pretty dumb sometimes.
Oh, thank you.
Boy, oh
boy, oh
boy.
Yeah, idiocracy time again.
And I gotta tell you though, I have, you know, I live at Costco most of the time.
Yeah.
Okay.
Sometimes I stay at home and I sleep there.
But you're Costco pretty much every
day.
Almost every day except when the sale ends and it ended on Sunday.
So now, you know, I'm going to be at home, you know, watching the kids.
Play their games
as they
sit on the sofa.
Healthy, healthy men, not working.
No, actually they do work.
They do.
Oh, good.
They got summer jobs.
I can't want to bring this up because... Well, let me
just mention.
Oh, yeah.
We've got
sunshine today and highs near 80.
It's going to be beautiful all day long.
Right now, 59 degrees.
This portion of the show brought to you by our friends at Virlo Mattress.
Hey, their sale continues.
Their
Fourth of July sale is still happening.
Wow.
They still have some great deals on accessories and some adjustable bases are still left.
Some of those are 30 to 50 percent off.
You can check them out on Madison's east side or west side or go to burlow.com and check out their lifetime comfort guarantee.
That's burlow.com.
Okay, John.
Yeah, I'm watching the
sparrow bang up against our window.
Oh, no.
Apparently it could hurt.
Really craves air conditioning and it can't get in.
So I feel sorry for it.
I get it.
We're talking about the surprise about.
charging your EV at home.
It's not easy.
It's not something that you think about because you think you have the ability to do that and yet I have a hundred amp in my house.
I thought I had a 200 amp because we just replaced the panels.
Unfortunately, here I am, you know, now I can get a plug-in, just a regular outlet plug-in and charge that way.
It takes three or four days to do that.
We have the Lynn, out in Golden Valley, giving us a few tips on here.
She writes, we put in a 50 amp outlet, and it was about $750, but she does have a 200 amp panel.
Newer homes
have the
200 amp, the older homes do not.
Unless you upgrade somehow and it costs a lot of money to do that sometimes Then she writes maybe the utility will put in a special charger which bypasses your panel.
Okay, that sounds like an idea I don't know if they have that and then she wrote then they'd control when it charges at a lower rate Which
is
true.
Yeah, you do it overnight,
but
here's the thing about doing something like that they could put
or allow you to get that charger, but they can't guarantee that you're going to charge it just at night.
So you could do it during the day, then you might overload your panel and cause a house fire, which is not something that's a big problem.
Yeah.
Now there, there is a bypass and I looked it up.
Yeah.
There are some YouTube videos explaining this, but it's called the Emporia Pro.
Level two EV charger.
That sounds fancy.
It is very fancy and what it does is it gauges how much amperage you're using in your home and It will lower the amount of charge going to your vehicle When you're using too much amperage in your home You have a stove on air conditioning kicks on the furnace kicks on whatever you're using electricity for it lowers the amount of electricity going to your EV
It's fascinating.
I think I dozed off for a second.
Hang on.
Okay, here.
I do want to bring this up, too, because... Please
continue.
This happens every once in a while.
I do this research.
I come up with these new products, and then I call the electrician or whoever else it is that I'm going to harass.
And I say, look, I got this product.
It should work.
Right.
Do you guys know about this?
No, we don't know.
So
I sent a blink and they're they're looking into it.
And I haven't heard back from them, but I'm hoping that happens soon.
Well, we all are.
OK, I'll keep you updated.
Thank you.
We appreciate the update.
Hey, let's go to the phone.
608-879-8255.
That's 879.
You had
to ask me
this morning.
Don't blame
me.
It's your
fault.
Nothing to do with it.
Mark.
Good morning.
What's on your mind this morning, Mark?
Good morning, guys.
How long is it going to be before Donald Trump adds a special charge for your charge?
Yeah.
And I see this over the weekend that Donald Trump is having a meltdown over the commander's name and
the Cleveland commanders.
Yeah.
And Washington's name.
And he's deeply offended that they no longer have the offensive of Native American
name attached to them, but they're so proud to have these names.
Indian tribes across the country are calling us to restore those names.
They're the ones who, for generations now, have asked us to change those names to something that they don't find deeply offensive.
It's a small thing, but Donald Trump is getting more and more petty.
You wouldn't have thought he couldn't get any more petty.
But I mean, the man is just having a complete meltdown, I think.
I think it has come out now.
It's been documented that he's the one who has ordered the editing of the files.
So make sure there's no mention of Donald Trump's name on any of the files here.
Well, he's just doing this to divert attention again, changing the names back from the Washington football team and the Cleveland baseball
team.
I didn't hear about the Cleveland team at all, but I heard about...
Washington, yeah, going back to the Redskins.
Yeah,
it's not going to happen.
Well, you don't know, there's going to be pressure somehow they're going to I think the Redskins.
I mean, Washington, do they want to change states?
Are they being sold to somebody else?
No,
no,
no, no, not at all.
No, they didn't want to change the name in the first place, but they eventually changed it a couple of years ago.
And now Trump just is saying out of the blue sky, you know, change it back.
Okay, here it is.
They're threatening to restrict the Trump is threatening to restrict the NFL team stadium deal if they don't change the name back.
Yep.
Okay.
It has a president ever interfered in this crazy.
No, well just.
Just think about it.
I mean, you know, I talk about it all the time.
This guy is micromanaging the U.S.
Yeah.
He's getting into, he's getting into naming football teams at this point.
This
is
like some kind of surreal nightmare, Mark.
I mean, I'll paraphrase, you know, from the Declaration of Independence, every act of tyranny shows that the man is unfit to be the leader of a free people.
I mean, he is just, he's batched.
I
know.
There you go.
He is.
That crazy.
He is that.
Okay.
All
right, Mark.
Thank you for your call.
Yeah.
You have a good day.
All
right.
Yeah.
I know it's nuts.
Uh, 608-879-8255.
Well, it's
getting crazy and we're talking about the Epstein thing and I've got a little cut here from Chris Hayes.
We're going to talk about that.
But do we have, uh, there's another message there, but I don't know.
Check it out what it is here.
You don't know.
Bob.
Oh, I have the Emporia charger.
Love it.
You charge off peak hours, and you should be okay with a 100 amp service.
It will give you the cost of each charge after you program the unit with your utility.
And there you go.
Well, see the utility I've already noticed
about it, Bob.
Well, thank you, man.
Well, do they know about it?
Well, I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know.
I
don't think
MG&E is out there on a kind of walk, but thanks Bob.
All right.
You know, I'll refer MG&E to the utility.
Why don't you give MG&E
Bob's number?
He can discuss it with him.
What
do you think?
Why aren't you?
This is a curb your enthusiasm moment again as I try to fix the country myself.
I'm like we're managing it now.
Well, somebody asked.
Somebody will.
All
right.
Well, anyway, Mike,
thank
you.
Appreciate it.
Yeah.
Oh, boy.
All
right.
You can check things out at wmdxradio.com, you know.
We've got a lot of things going on.
We're going to be taking more entries.
In fact, we are taking more entries for our Sugar River pizza parties.
We've got our next one almost lined up here.
I have to contact the winner.
In fact, I'll be doing that a little bit later on today, but you can enter.
We're doing this all summer long.
You'll win a pizza party from Sugar River Pizza.
Just go to wmdxradio.com and click on the banner.
about Sugar River Pizza and John and Gordy being in the best of Madison, and we're celebrating our nominations by doing pizza parties all around Madison.
All right.
Okay.
Well, I can't wait.
All right, let's get to Chris Hayes kind of summed up the whole mess around Epstein and, you know, the grand jury.
They don't have enough details in grand jury decisions to make any difference whatsoever.
There are no names.
is nothing to look at really if we get the grand jury's report.
It's not going to mean anything to anybody.
So anyway, let's get to this.
Chris Hayes dealing with the whole Epstein episode so far as we know it.
Let's check it out.
I don't think I've spoken to him for 15 years.
I wasn't a fan.
I do not think it is right and fair for this administration's labor department to have Epstein as the focus.
Not only is the department going to redact identifying information about the victims, which they very well should, they are also going to redact identifying information about anyone else whose name might come up with the documents in question.
The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which of course oversees the FBI and the Department of Justice, now says the Bureau agents.
were instructed to flag to DOJ about any Epstein records that mentioned Donald Trump.
And all this comes just a day after that shocking story in the Wall Street Journal about what the paper described as a, quote, body birthday letter bearing Trump's signature.
It contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand drawn with a heavy marker.
A pair of small marks denotes the woman's breasts.
And the future president's signature is a squiggly Donald below her waist mimicking pubic hair.
Trump denies having anything to do with the letter.
He is suing the Wall Street Journal over this reporting after having threatened to do so.
I never wrote a picture in my life.
I don't draw pictures of women.
He said, it's not my language.
It's not my words.
Of course, Donald Trump has written many pictures in his life, like the ones you are seeing on your screen right now.
The DOJ may be releasing the list of Jeffrey Epstein's clients.
Well, that really happened.
It's sitting on my desk right now to review.
That's been a directive by President Trump.
I think tomorrow, Jesse, breaking news right now, you're going to see some Epstein information being released.
There are tens of thousands of videos.
The
writer, Michael Wolf, has a recording of Epstein himself saying he was Trump's closest friend for a decade.
Back in 2002, he told the New York Magazine that he'd known him for 15 years.
Fun guy.
BFD, I think Chris is the official term for it.
A thousand of them and the belief somehow.
I mean, this is.
exercise in hubris unlike anything I've ever seen the idea that you're gonna have a thousand agents working under the explicit order to weed out the Trump stuff and that's not somehow gonna leak but also Trump's strategy from the beginning right this is a person who in 2015 at CPAC is trying to impugn the reputation of Bill Clinton by mentioning Clinton's activities on Epstein Island yeah it is
in the self-sabotage to make these choices over the course of a decade, knowing that if he won, the chickens were gonna come home to roost.
And what does he do now?
I mean, it is truly, it boggles the mind.
It is the most hubristic thing I've seen from a man
who has pushed
the
balance
of hubris to the outer reaches of the universe.
But this is
a problem.
completely of his own creating.
He brought these people in, they are asking for results, he built a movement on it, and now he sits atop it, potentially indicted in the crime that he has made everybody obsessed with.
Unbelievable.
It
is unbelievable
because it's happening.
And we're living through this damn nightmare.
Absolutely.
It just goes on and on.
It really does.
He's caught.
He's caught.
This was a really bad strategy all along.
as we're finding out.
Yes.
Yeah, we're
all
stuck
in
it now.
It is 648.
Coming up in our next hour, former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will join us and later in the hour, Abby Abramovich from Downdrens Distilling.
Got some things to talk to her about and that's a fabulous place.
I haven't been out there yet, but I'm hearing great things about it.
She'll tell us about it.
It's all coming up on John and Gordy.
On himself.
WMDX, it's Johnny
Gordy in the morning.
We're talking Epstein and...
It's just a big mess.
It is.
It's 653.
Look at the beautiful sunshine this morning.
Skies are fairly clear, although they could get a little hazy at times, but dew point is low.
It feels great out there this morning.
Highs near 80 this afternoon, right now, 60 degrees here.
What is your WMDX Samsung watch?
Why haven't asked the watch lately, have we?
No.
Well, 78 degree.
No, 65 currently.
Oh,
really?
Temperatures jumped up
apparently.
Yeah,
and
high of 82, low of 66 this evening.
What time is the sunset?
And he
always asks about the sunset time.
So I want to know.
And I'm ready.
830.
830.
Getting
shorter
days or getting shorter and
shorter.
Oh my gosh.
You know, Dom, we didn't ask you what you do this weekend.
Did you
do anything exciting?
Maxwell
Street, and that was it.
Maxwell Street, and then that is it.
I went to the terrace, and other than that, I did absolutely nothing.
Yesterday I did nothing, and I loved it.
Just go down to the
train
tracks and watch the trains go by, maybe hop on a few, you know, join the hobo crowd.
Well, I already did that once on the Fourth of July, so, you know, second time.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
That's where I heard it before.
Good enough.
All right.
Got this short story here.
It's Christopher Rufo.
Do you remember Christopher Rufo?
No.
He's the guy who planned the campaigns against critical race theory, which was not being taught in K through 12.
DEI, he said he was going to expand on that and make everybody get rid of DEI.
He actually explained it in a post and not one superintendent in any state in the union noticed it.
Because then they could have said, screw you Christopher Rufo, but they didn't.
They never read it.
So they thought, well, we'd better get rid of DEI.
And Chris Rufo won that one.
Wow.
Anyway, so Rufo is now suggesting, I like this, in a sub-stack post last month that Trump should push the limits to a militarized occupation of the US.
Wow.
OK.
Well,
that's.
Usually gets what he wants, you know, he said hey go after the elite universities.
Well, they're doing that now.
He's saying hey militarize the US get this immigration agencies like ice should dispatch unmarked vans to follow agitators Yeah, and snatch them from the streets while the media are not looking what what these are just agitate
Agitator, you mean protesters, right?
This is this is a quote now the most effective riot control is to take movement leaders off the field infiltrate their networks disrupt the flow of funding and roll them up in federal investigations denying the left trained protest leaders now will create a strong precedent for the rest of the president's term
Wow
Okay,
that's well, that's
a
credible.
Yeah.
Well, there we are the that's where we're
at tatership, right?
Fully talk engaged
talker
see apparently
Wow, yeah, I got a complaint though.
I want to get to something this I heard this on the way and it was a radio report about kids eating a lot of protein now a lot of the teenagers and Gen Zers are using protein in their diet an awful lot and they get maybe more
more or less too much protein from all of their snacks, the protein mixes and the powders.
Really?
Yeah, the protein
bars that are out there
now.
And I mentioned on a program a while back where all these bars, it used to be just sugary bars, they're adding protein to those bars now.
I thought that was a good
thing for kids,
right?
And then they complained during this report that these
Men, these boys now are trying to look ripped.
You
know, they're trying to look really, really muscular.
Really young one.
And I'm thinking to myself, what's the problem with that?
I don't
think we were specimens of, you know, that anybody could point at in the fifties and sixties or seventies for that matter.
Right.
You see some of the older movies and these guys with no shirts, they're not ripped.
No, they're not.
Nope.
So.
Is
there
something wrong with people looking fit and, you know,
muscular?
No.
I don't think so.
I was going to say, because I use protein powder, like you said, every single day.
It's really good.
But I use it every single day.
And at first, when you were talking about that, I thought it was a bad thing.
But it's
actually a good
thing.
But they're vilifying it.
They're saying maybe we're getting too much.
And I get the isolate to cut down on the lactose.
It's not lactose free, but it's pretty good.
You know, I do take a couple like those tablets just to make sure.
But yeah, I take the powder and powder every morning.
Yeah.
Well, who's saying that this is a
bad thing for kids?
Well, they didn't
sound like it was a bad thing.
They're getting too much protein.
You
know,
the kids normally have like a bowl of cereal with milk or something like that.
And they have a lot of milk, maybe chocolate milk.
They get a lot of a lot of calcium that way.
They get a
lot of protein.
And now they're maybe overloading on it because they can get the bars a snack.
protein snack bars, but looking ripped was the thing that bothered me most.
There's nothing wrong with that.
I think it looked very healthy and ripped and muscular.
And by the way, building muscles.
I mean,
that's a great way to support your joints.
So you don't have joint problems
later on in
life.
Yeah.
So,
yeah.
Wow.
They should, they should be working out.
Yeah.
What's the problem?
They're
shaming
people who want
to look good and women are their bodybuilding as well.
So there's nothing wrong with it, but now they're making it seem like a bad thing.
Should have a balanced diet, and it should include protein and lots of fruits and veggies.
Yeah.
So kids.
Everybody should look like
they're heroes in the Marvel Universe movies.
Exactly.
That's what I'm thinking.
Yeah.
By the way, I'm going to go see Superman either today or tomorrow.
Okay, great.
I can't wait to see it now.
I guess it's top at the box office too.
That's what I'm hearing.
And
we're gonna talk to Pete Schwab on Wednesday afternoon
when we fill in for Maggie Dawn and we'll ask him about the movie.
Exactly.
It's all coming up and we'll be back with more.
In fact, former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin joins us in around 7.35.
Stay tuned for that.
Back with more after this.
And it's
a
beautiful, beautiful day in the capital city of Madison.
A
little overlooking State Street.
What a great place to be.
That's John Peterson.
I'm Gordy Young.
Dominic Lee is in the producer's hot box there, pushing the buttons and flipping the switches willy-nilly.
We
should put some ventilation in there one of these
days.
I know.
I feel sorry for the kids.
I'll bring my own personal little fan.
That's a good idea.
Sunny skies, today's high near 80 degrees.
Right now it's 65.
Okay.
All right.
It should be nice all day long.
This portion of the show brought to you by Madison HearingAidCenter.com.
They're at 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison.
They are helping people change their lives.
Their number one goal isn't just selling hearing aids.
It's improving the quality life through better hearing.
Talk to Jim or Sarah.
You can give them a call.
608-249-4077.
That's 608-249-4077.
Or just go to their excellent website, madisonhearingaidscenter.com.
Take an initial hearing test there.
And then you're often running there.
That's Madison Hearing Aid Center, 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison.
Well, we should mention too that you can hear the secret messages we broadcast in silence here.
That only those with these hearing aids can hear.
Just a
little tip
though.
A little extra something.
All right, and we were talking about Christopher Rufo.
His idea, you know, he's the guy who came up with critical race theory as a bad thing
in
our school.
Christopher
Rufo.
Yeah, Christopher Rufo.
And they weren't teaching it in K through 12, but they did have it as an elective, I believe, in college.
But anyway.
He's got a new plan and that is to take out the movement leaders, the liberal movement leaders.
And that's
the
formula for success for the Trump administration.
And we have Mark here who says that's what the fascists did in Germany, Spain, Italy.
Russia.
Thank
you, Mark.
Yeah.
Add
the
U.S.
to that list.
Oh, my gosh.
Okay.
Hey, this hit the fan and we're going to play a whole bunch of cuts from this.
Everybody is probably familiar with Mediason, who was a MSNBC host for quite a while.
Right.
And he filled in for everybody incredibly.
Yeah,
and he had a weekend
show.
Brilliant.
Really good.
And now
he is, he is
debating 20 fascists on the YouTube channel Jubilee.
Really?
Yeah.
And I just thought I'd play the compilation that's available on X.
kind of is a broad view of all of the people that he, he was there for like an hour and 40 minutes.
This is a long version of it.
But
that's what they do with this format, right?
Yeah.
It's usually about an
hour.
Yeah.
Charlie Kirk does it sometimes too as well.
He
kind of does it
around.
Which is hilarious.
The guy is a dummy.
All right.
Let's listen to this, uh, this sample of what it was like for that hour and 40 minutes.
Okay.
Mediason.
I'm in a room full of, I don't know what to call you anymore, conservatives, Republicans, fascists, I don't know.
Are your parents Americans or immigrants?
No, my parents are United States citizens.
But
they're immigrants, you said.
No, they came here as immigrants.
However, but I want to make the claim that we cannot even- So they are immigrants.
I came
here as an immigrant, I'm
an immigrant.
But at this point, when they came, you know, can I
see some condoms?
First, fourth, fifth, 14th,
22nd amendments.
Those
are my amendments that I came
with today.
I'm
trying.
If you don't want to debate them, just say so.
Are you supporting like raping innocent women, nons, dude?
Killing priests?
I mean, priests still brandish guns and kill people.
You just refused to
condemn the Nazi Holocaust, my friend.
I don't think you're in a position to ask anyone any questions.
I
said
that one pardon against somebody.
It was 1600 pardons.
600 of those were
people charged with.
Yes, one example that you just gave me.
I can give you more.
Okay, fine, fine.
And I'll say the exact same thing every single time.
Then your
argument will fall apart.
When was the Islamic Republic of Iran founded?
1979.
When was Gaza occupied by Israel?
Uh, 19...
Well, they're
very first time.
67, yeah.
So can we do the math together?
12 years before the Islamic Republic of Iran existed, Israel was oppressing, occupying, dispossessing the people of Gaza.
So your argument makes
no
sense.
Neither of us are economists.
It's the economists'
studies.
Don't
assume who I am.
Are you an economist?
I could be.
But are
you?
I could be.
Are you?
I'm not going to tell
you.
Are
you?
I'm
going to major
in
economics, right?
Are you
an economist?
No, not right
now.
Okay, so
when I said neither was an economist, I was correct.
Everyone here uses an iPhone designed by an immigrant, is on Gmail.
Fair point.
Designed by
an immigrant.
But
what is on a YouTube show?
If that all
came to a YouTube show, founded by an immigrant, you wouldn't
be here.
Fair point, but that's a tiny minority.
So
you all love immigrants,
whether you like it or not.
We're not going to use your common
ground because
you said
I'm
not
American.
Please try.
Please try.
I don't think
you're
American.
I'm saying you're not American.
I'm saying you're not American due to values.
How do you think you're not American on values, either?
I think you're a little fascist-y, little racist-y.
I'm an American citizen.
I went through lots of vetting.
I took my test.
And that's how
it should
be.
But he wants
us to leave.
But he wants us to leave.
Some
people don't really care about vetting, do they?
It's not really about vetting, is
it, my
friend?
But people should not have
the right.
You're
in denial.
You got rid of an American citizen from the country without process.
That's the
Fifth Amendment violation.
Since I'm not up to date on that specific basis, I'm sure you can.
We
weren't aware that American citizens are being deported.
It's pretty big story.
Maybe if you read the fake
news you might
know.
If this is how you
get rounds of applause, you sit in a room with 20 people who agree with you.
Wow, amazing.
Amazing.
That must make you feel good.
We should be nicer to you, otherwise you'll deport us.
What a great argument.
This is a free speech to make.
It's not your country, my friend.
It's our country, whether you like it or not.
There you go.
Wow, okay.
Nice sample of an hour and 40 minutes worth of debating.
20 fascists.
surrounding America and jubilee
jubilee is the channel yeah
okay yeah youtube and uh you can check it out there if you'd like uh i have another uh uh clip here it is uh a guy arguing that we're gonna lose uh our demographic the white people in this country so let's listen to 101 here
okay but it is a taboo subject should we be concerned about the demographics so no anglo-saxon european american zero percent of america it doesn't matter
Are they 0% of America?
Well, let's say if it becomes 0%, it should not work.
They're not going.
Why are you bringing weird hypotheticals?
Well, but there has to be, I mean, they're still part of our country.
There's culture.
There's, I mean, even Britain, like,
I mean, it concerns me, but it
concerns me when Britain is changing and it's, you know, it's like, they're losing their culture, but it's losing their culture.
Are they?
Are they going to try to?
I'm from the
UK.
I'm telling you, no one's losing their culture.
London is going to be very little British in one day.
What's the plan?
That's what we want to know.
What's the plan?
You just made that up.
Have you been to London?
How do we know?
Cyrus, have
you been to London?
No.
So then maybe you shouldn't come in places you don't know anything about.
But what's the plan?
I grew
up in London.
What's the general plan?
London is a very British city.
I was
in London a few
weeks ago.
OK.
It's a very British city.
I hope not.
It's a very British city.
It's a very British city.
Yeah,
London.
And this is a woman who was talking about her parents who were immigrants, but now they're Americans.
So let's listen to cut 102.
I'm an immigrant and an American, and I employ many
American citizens,
both naturalized and the ones born here.
I employ Americans.
My parents, no, my parents came as... Americans
is defined
by you.
My parents came as immigrants to become naturalized, so I'm not necessarily opposed to immigrants.
Oh, wow.
So you're the child of immigrants?
Correct.
I'm a child of immigrants.
I was born here.
But
you don't accept immigrants or Americans?
Not at this moment.
So your parents
are not Americans?
Not at this moment.
No, they're citizens.
They became naturalized.
You just said you can't be citizens by being naturalized.
No, I was born here, and I'm not opposed to naturalization.
But are your parents...
Are you against naturalization?
No, I never said...
You did.
You
began.
Everyone was here.
They could play it back on YouTube.
You said Americans or immigrants?
Are your parents Americans or immigrants?
No, my parents are United States citizens.
But they're immigrants, you said.
No, they came here as immigrants.
However, but I want to make the claim that we can't I came
here as an immigrant.
I'm
an immigrant.
At this point when they came,
the
United States economy was not at
it's better now.
The American economy is better than it's
been for many years.
And I can say that as somebody like Donald Trump.
We're giving millions of billions of dollars to people of minority of minorities as well as the reason the
economy is doing badly
now is Donald Trump's tariff policy.
Nothing to do with migrants.
In fact, the congressional businesses.
I'm an immigrant.
I started a business.
No, I understand because the SBA is giving people billions of loans.
They're giving them billions.
I
didn't take
any loans for the SBA.
I'm not saying you did, but I'm saying that statistically speaking, they're giving billions of loans to these people.
So should we do
statistics?
According to statistics, immigrants are 80% more likely to be entrepreneurs than native-born Americans.
They're more likely to start businesses and
hire Americans.
No, I'm aware of that.
Immigrants are more likely
to pay in taxes
than take
out in benefits.
They're more
likely to add to innovation and jobs
and wages.
That's right.
This is what
the statistics show.
The
Congressional Budget Office, let me just finish by going back in.
The
Congressional Budget Office, which is bipartisan.
and Republicans and Democrats both use it.
They have said that the immigration surge that you mentioned will lead to an extra $9 trillion of GDP over the next 10 years.
That amounts to $65,000 per American household.
That's $65,000 for each and every one of you holding up a red flag.
All right, pause.
You've been voted out by the majority.
Please
return to your
seat.
And
they fact check all of these figures.
When they do mention some of them,
then
they fact check a little bar comes across and tells you whether they're lying or not.
Minnie was right on.
Factual as heck.
So now here is one last cut and this is the autocrat This is the guy.
This is just right off the chart.
So let's go to 103
bits that you disagree with.
Can I just be clear?
Yeah, absolutely.
Okay, I'm more than willing to I'm more than willing to amend it and whenever it's in your favor Yeah, absolutely.
Can Democrats do the same when they're in office?
No, absolutely not.
No, I don't absolutely not.
What do you believe in autocracy by who?
Honestly, quite frankly, anyone who is in line with Catholic teaching.
Donald Trump is not Catholic.
Oh, of course.
He's not.
I completely agree, and that's part of the problem.
So you support
Trump?
You don't support Trump?
No, I don't.
I didn't even vote for him.
I wrote in, like, John Pork or someone.
Why did you?
I
can't
even remember.
Why did you vote if you don't believe in democracy and you want autocracy?
Well, because quite frankly, I voted... This is fascinating.
I kind of voted just to... I came with this argument, but I'm more to my own argument.
I'm much more interested in this.
Yeah, absolutely.
So how do we get to an autocracy?
I think, quite frankly, that...
If we are able to enact local leaders, I think quite frankly, these far right conservative sitting right around people.
Yeah, absolutely.
So well actually I have quite some of the people don't make the cut from what I can see visually actually hold on for a moment I do think that there are people who happen to not be white who do actually have history in this country and have roots in this country for instance from the Mexican-American war we subsumed a lot of territory of people who have far stakes in this country who happen to be Hispanic or what have you okay I am for defending the traditional demographics of this country which is majority white
should stay that is the United States
I mean, we've gone so off topic, but how does the United States look like under you?
Sorry, what's your name?
My name is, well, my name's Connor.
It's a pleasure to meet
you.
Nice meeting you, Connor.
Well, that's Mehdi Hassan.
Mehdi Hassan and he was on the program Jubilee and he was surrounded by 20 fascists and each one raising the red flag because they, you know, they object or, you know, they want some attention, they want to make it out to the table and debate with Mehdi.
Yeah.
It's, it's interesting, but you know, this rapid fire back and forth, it's hard to keep track of who's
just
saying what.
I feel like it's got to be so draining too.
I
mean, like an hour and a half of pure talking.
For
some reason, I think, uh, many is energized by that.
Yeah.
That's
the
whole thing.
But yeah, I think it energizes him to hear these contradictory statements being made and then finally being able to kind of make some sense out of it, or at least at least.
you know, respond to the ridiculous nature of them all.
But here, this is a response I thought was really a good observation.
It
said
here, many of Sun Jubilee episode just shows that these aren't your average boomer maga, white trash, sunglasses, truckers anymore.
These kids are educated and understand the ins and outs of their ideology and go further than Trump.
Democrats and the left have no idea
what's coming after Trump.
And it's a
good point.
I mentioned
here, you know, my sons are Gen
Zers and
they're very, very firm.
They're very progressive, but they're, they don't compromise.
Yeah.
But there's another side to it that's not compromising either.
And I
wasn't aware of how strongly these individuals feel about their particular fascism.
Yeah.
Wow,
scary.
I know.
I know.
But this really hit the fan.
Watch
the whole thing if you can.
All right.
19 minutes past the hour coming up in about 15 minutes.
We'll talk with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.
Brittany Merlowe's up next with a look at the weather on John and Gordy in the morning.
WMDX.
722, 92.7 WMDX.

That's right, you can raise your feet up in the bed.
You have an adjustable bedroom,
right?
Yeah, great.
I tried that last night.
It's just fantastic.
Yeah.
Can you hang, you know, can you go to a 45 degree angle just all the way like that with your
feet like sleeping a slant?
Yeah, I guess you could.
You could raise your feet up.
It raises your knees up.
Raise your feet and your head up.
It raises your knees up.
Can I do a U-shaped thing?
Okay.
You actually can, yeah.
Can you really?
You don't wanna do
that.
Doesn't seem right.
723, let's go to Brittany Merlot.
She is, she's
at the EAA this morning.
Look at that, look at that right there.
I
forgot that's half, oh yes.
Well this is quite the visual.
But
where are you Brittany?
Where are you located there at
Oshka?
I am.
Right at the front gate right now.
So the place where you have to enter to get into the grounds, I am right there.
Come say hi if you're here.
Are you checking people's tickets and their papers?
They might work.
Wow, so it looks like it's
already bustling with activity in back of you there.
Absolutely.
I mean, the campsite is packed.
There's about 40,000 people that I believe are camping.
There are approximating numbers right now.
There's been 6,000 volunteers here for over a month trying to get this event ready to roll.
About 10,000 planes fly in here and about 700,000 people come here.
So this is the place to be in Wisconsin this week for sure.
If you've never been, you don't have to be into aviation.
It's going to suck you in.
You're going to fall for it.
You're going to fall for it.
You did.
You did.
Now you're flying
airplanes.
I know.
Yes.
And it's all because of this event.
So I come here every year.
I camp the whole time.
I cover it and of course forecast the weather because we're out here in the middle of it with no power, no luxury bed that retracts.
I was thinking, man, they need to make one for camping.
I think they make
a portable that you can carry out into a tent somewhere.
Perfect.
Next year, I'm investing into that.
How
many
times have
you been there, Brittany?
This is gonna be my sixth year in a row.
Once I've been here, I covered it for work, for media, and once I saw what it was all about, I hands down, I'm here every year, whether it's vacation or working.
A little tip next time, don't wear the ice t-shirt that you have on.
I'm
just kidding.
I'm just kidding.
You certainly don't want to wear
that.
No.
The thing is, I went out to DC with the kids, and we bought FBI t-shirts and a hat.
Really, seriously, it looks just like the stuff they wear when they go out.
And I'm thinking, jeez, what if they did the same thing with ICE t-shirts?
That
would be really scary,
wouldn't it?
That is scary.
Well, what what can we expect weather wise for today?
It's looking beautiful here We have a lot of sunshine and nice mild temperatures today.
Yeah
Not too bad.
Enjoy it now because the heat is going to crank up as we go into the middle of the week So right now 60 degrees or so a little bit of wildfire smoke does want to sneak into the area So a sunny hazy kind of day highs at about 82 degrees still refreshing comfortable
Tonight, we get a little partly cloudy.
Tomorrow morning, a chance of showers and storms early in the morning.
I think there's a wind down by midday for you there.
And then it's going to be hot and humid into those mid to upper eighties, the dew point starting to rise.
And by Wednesday, I'm going to stay.
Oh, I wish I had the AC here.
But if you could, I would stay in the AC 90s.
Oh, no.
It's
bad.
Are we expecting that the smoke to be a factor this week?
It should only stick around today.
I think it should come out of here tomorrow.
All
right.
Great.
All right.
Okay.
Well, very good, Brittany.
Well, keep us posted.
Yeah.
You know.
We'll do.
You have a good week up there.
And have fun.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you.
I hope to get a ride in the blimp.
So I'll have stories.
Wow.
All right.
All
right.
Wow.
Yeah.
Sounds like a lot of
fun.
All right.
Thank you, Brittany.
Yep.
Take care.
Have
a good day.
Thanks, guys.

Well, I got some bad news for everybody.
Health care is going through the roof.
It's going to happen.
I've been mentioning it a few times here.
The Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, they'll be losing some of their subsidies, the COVID subsidies, and that will raise rates quite a bit.
That's going to make things
jump up.
Yeah, this is a story out of the lever.
You might want to check that out.
A great place to go, the lever.
This is the story.
Some corporate media reports framed the suit.
There is a United Health Group investor lost
against the company because of the higher denial rates.
Now, you won't get this, but I mean, this is crazy stuff.
The investors are taking on UnitedHealth for its aggressive anti-consumer tactics, but in reality,
Court documents reveal some of the United Group's investors are concerned that the company's changing corporate practices have been too consumer friendly.
United, United Health Group has one of the highest denial rates of any major insurer, which can force patients to forego critical treatments until the doctor's orders.
Now, what they're doing is they want to sue them to prevent them from not denying people coverage.
They want.
the insurer to deny coverage so they can make more money as investors.
All right.
Wow.
Head is spinning.
Okay.
All right.
729.
When we return, former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will join us on Johnny Gordy in the morning.
WMGX 92.7.
It's John and Gordy in the morning in the capital city, Madison.
A few blocks from the capital.
And you know, the legislators, I'm so glad that we don't have to see them anymore.
Not at all?
Not at all.
What do you mean?
What
are you talking about?
Well, I think we're gone now for the summer.
Well, we've got a we've got a beautiful day ahead of us here.
Bright, beautiful sunshine on State Street and highs in the low 80s.
Time now for us to check in with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.
Good morning, Paul.
Morning, guys.
How you doing today?
Good fun.
All right.
We've got a lot to talk about.
We're going to get into the Epstein files here.
We were talking about it earlier here in the program.
Well, wait a
minute.
It was a bad strategy, wasn't it?
I mean, you know, to run on this, they wanted to vilify Hillary and Bill, and they really nailed them for it being on their flight logs.
So then they just kept that line of thinking going.
and
they ran on it years and years
and then they decided there's nothing to see here and then they just tried to drop it no one well no one wanted that to happen so well what's your impression of this whole Epstein episode
well I think like most most people you know I'm curious I'd really like to know what's going on especially what accounts
For the reversal of a position on this thing What what did the Trump think was there when he used it as a campaign technique or strategy?
And why is it now that he is standing up to the core?
Mega base Yeah And say no this is of no interest and forget about it and then accusing
basically accusing them
of
being wacko liberal Democrats.
Well that's
not
a good thing to do either and then of course that just energizes the megabase to really really seek this information out and demand that they see the documentation.
And you know, I think he I thought you know, he's had an easy ride All he has to do is tell these people something and they believe it and let him get away with it And he thought he could get away with this particular item.
Yeah, it didn't happen
It brings to mind.
I just finished stolen pride by early Russell hot child.
She wrote another book I'm blinking out on the name right now
that covered the same ground as Kramer's book about here in Wisconsin.
I can't remember the name of that book now.
But in any case, the point that she makes is you can take all these issues.
Trump's inappropriate language, his abuse of people, the fact that he's
The fact that he's got, and this is important, the support of folks who he's crushing in terms of their environment, their water, their air they breathe,
he's
crushing them in terms of his tax policy, hurting them and helping the rich and everything.
We know about Trump, but the point she makes is that
You've got a significant part of the American people who feel that they've been standing in line all their lives.
And that under the leadership of Democrats, and this is where the attack on diversity, inclusion, and equity comes in and becomes so important in the discussion, that they've been standing in line all their lives to get a fair shake.
And that Democrats have been bullies and moved other people, women, immigrants, people of color, move them to cut in line.
And that the appeal of Donald Trump said, I'm going to put an end to this.
I'm going to stop people from cutting line ahead of you.
I'm going to look out for your interest and that that view of Trump is more important in terms of how they decide to vote than any rational decision about Trump's economic policies, Trump's environmental policies, and whatever.
And I think when we talk about the Epstein case,
That also is going to be the case.
They're not going to be effective.
I mean, Trump can end up being on a list of his best partners in crime, and it's not going to impact their votes for him.
And for some other folks, maybe just enough to tip it to Democratic support in the next election.
for the vast, vast support, vast part of his base.
They're not looking at that stuff.
Right.
Right.
You know, I never understood the DEI thing at all because, you know, through the many decades that I looked for work and, and may have been turned down for jobs, I never thought that maybe somebody else was getting in.
before me because of their race, because of something else, some other reason.
I never questioned it.
It was just part of job seeking.
You know, that's what happens, you know?
Well, you know, I'm very few of us ever get the, you know, the first job or the second job we wanted.
And I suppose it's the
It's the belief, not the reality, that's the driving force in all of this, the belief that that is in fact happening.
When in fact, when we look at the impact of most programs, DEI or affirmative action, all that's really happening is people who have been prejudiciously excluded in the past.
Let's take a very common one, which is applications for home loans.
I mean, we just know that that was government policy, as well as that of the financial institutions for years, to simply say, if you're in a certain neighborhood or if you're a person of color, you're not getting the loan or you're not getting it at a reasonable rate.
And what these programs did,
was attempt to exclude or end that kind of prejudicial, that invidious discrimination.
So, yeah, there is a shake-up in the line, but the shake-up is basically people are going to the right place in line in our society.
And that's how I always look at it.
It was one of those situations where
the employer is looking for a specific person for that particular job.
And maybe I didn't fit all the criteria that they had exactly for that job.
So, you know, they chose somebody else.
I don't know.
I always accepted that.
I just went on to the next job.
Market and you know essentially that's what you have to kind of deal with it's part of life and now they're making it They're vilifying it obviously and they're trying to make it it I guess it's a DEI for conservatives, you know The biggest part was when they revealed that they want more conservatives in the universities and more conservatives hired which is DEI
You know, blatantly DAI, right?
Exactly.
And, you know, when you're speaking about that in terms of, say, universities, where there's, this is something that indirectly affected me, there was a push to get more
conservative professors in the areas of political science and government and history.
And there was a position that certain people wanted filled and they thought this former conservative politician would be just great at it.
Well, the point was, I can say this since I'm not gonna slander anyone, the guy was an idiot.
Yeah, totally unqualified to teach had nothing to do with his politics But yet it was thought that He was discriminated against because of his ideological views.
Yeah, now maybe Fate is facetiously Maybe he had his idea like ideological views because he was an idiot
He certainly couldn't express them.
That's for sure.
Talking with former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.
Paul, let's turn the discussion toward the Democrats and what's happening right now.
The Epstein files have come out and there's still ISIS still in Los Angeles, although I guess they've pulled some of those...
ICE agents out of there, but hearing calls now from people like, well, Gavin Newsom is one and Beta O'Rourke is another one about, you know, the Democrats need to be more forceful about maybe looking at redistricting, give some of this, you know, that's what the GOP did, do a lot of redistricting and kind of voter, you know, get the voters in line.
Where do you think things stand right now?
Is there a...
Is there a direction?
There's been some areas where the Democrats have been lax, which have led to some of the disasters.
I mean, one example is redistricting.
I mean, it's very clear that the Republican playbook going back 15, 20 years ago, precisely with the 2010 census, was to gerrymander congressional districts around.
the country as well as state legislative districts.
And Democrats did not effectively go after that.
There's no question about that.
But if we want the Democrats to stop trying to hang on by their fingernails in every election and work on bringing out the base, we've got to shift the base.
And the very discussion we just had now about Epstein and people thinking about how they're cutting in line.
I mean, there's this myth, whether you're in rural Wisconsin or you're in rural Kentucky or rural Louisiana, there is this myth out there that in terms of redistribution of wealth, i.e.
tax dollars, that their tax dollars
in these poor rural communities are going to the cities, going to fund urbanites, people of color, immigrants, their tax dollars are going for welfare, for cheats.
Well, that's not true, and it's the exact opposite that's the case.
There's actually no question that urban blue cities, blue states,
are paying the vast majority of taxes that are subsidizing everything from free lunch programs to health clinics in rural communities that are voting red, voting for Trump.
And the Democrats have to go out there in an FDR style and get a new political realignment in this country.
Absolutely.
Bring in some youth, Gen Zers.
Definitely get something going.
Why don't we talk more after this break, Paul?
We've got a few more questions.
Maybe we can get into the Steve Miller band.
Yeah, we want to talk about that too.
All right.
Paul Soglin will continue the conversation with him right after this.
Johnny!
Good morning, WMDX, 92.7, Steve Miller-Ban.
We're going to talk about Steve
Miller-Ban in just a moment.

or go to their website, MadisonHearingAidCenter.com.
Yeah, playing some Steve Miller, some great stuff, his early stuff.
I really love like Brave New World and living in the USA.
Quicksilver Girl.
Yeah.
Paulie, when you were here, you know, in the late 60s, you saw the Steve Miller band before they were the Steve Miller band, right?
They were the imitations.
Yeah.
It was Miller, Boss Gags, Ben Chidrin.
And I think their most popular venues were fraternity parties, which some of us would wait until about 11 o'clock at night and crash those and then get to hear them.
That
was like what mid 60s 66 67 62 60 oh really early
62 63 because I think by the end of 63 Miller had left Madison.
Yeah moved either San Francisco or Texas or somewhere out west.
Yeah Yeah, those were some some fun times
and I think that's around I hid what the saving grace album.
I think
was sailor.
Oh, yeah
And I remember one song, Dear Mary, off the sailor album was always one of my favorites.
And I
heard those on, you know, the old underground
station.
Progressive.
That's
right.
Yeah.
Oh, yes.
Those were fun times.
Did you?
Yeah, go ahead.
I before when we were discussing, I forgot the names of those authors of those books, or the names of the books.
Kramer's book is the Politics of Resentment.
Oh,
yes.
And Arlie Haaschild's first book is Strangers in Their Own Land.
And in that case, she tells one story about a guy working for a chemical company who is a trunk supporter.
And one of his jobs was to take the chemicals and dump them in the swamp, thus poisoning.
The Bayou is the very place where he lived, where his family and friends were dependent upon recreation and food.
And yet he was a Donald Trump supporter.
And that's logical, but you read her books and you start to get an understanding of
sort of what's going wrong here in terms of the political realignment and In terms of this business is standing in line You get the political realignment or FDR brings together Working people with a new deal which holds pretty much holds up until 68 when Richard Nixon
adopts his Southern strategy, which is to exploit in the South the resentment towards the civil rights movement that creates a new realignment.
And while he's not as great as Trump is going to be, Nixon does the same thing.
And he speaks to a strange white male Americans.
And, you know, basically says, I'm going to stop these people from getting in line ahead of you.
Yeah.
Ronald Reagan did the same thing.
And so this is a problem for the Democratic Party, excuse me, because it really needs to bring together working people of all races in a common movement to bring greater equity to our society for everybody.
Right.
And they frame it in a way that the Democrats are always giving handouts to these people and that's the problem.
They want freebies.
So they kind of turned it.
you know, against the Democrats in a way that is kind of convoluted and bizarre.
And I want to throw something in.
This came over the weekend.
Trump exempts more than 100 polluters from environmental standards, exempting dozens of chemical manufacturers, oil refineries, coal plants, medical device sterilizers, and other polluters from Clean Air Act rules, believe it or not.
One rule exempts about 50 polluters from reducing cancer risks of people living within six miles of a chemical.
plant by 96%.
So Trump's actions will cause more cancer, birth defects, and more children to suffer asthma.
These exemptions only last, by the way, two years.
And I guess, geographically, where that's happening is most likely in areas where people voted for him.
Yeah,
first
state comes to mind Texas, of course.
But you know, there are chemical alleys, you know, there are cities that are, you know, just built on that and they're trying to clean up the cities where, you know, minority areas are included and they're very near these chemical plants.
So they're trying to clean it up and they can't do it.
Unfortunately, we have to leave it there.
Paul Soglin, thank you for joining us.
We'll talk to you again soon.
We appreciate it.
