When the chips are down and democracy's back is up against the wall, two radio veterans step up to the microphone to right the wrongs, standing for truth, justice and just because.
Hey, are they ready to go yet?
It's John and Gordy on 92.7 WMDX.
That's where it's happening as usual.
Johnny Gordy.
What?
It's the mad pad.
It is the mad pad.
Johnny Gordy in the morning and we're over in State Street in glorious Madison, Wisconsin, if you're tuning in for the very first time.
I am.
And we encourage you to listen to the Civic Media app.
Check it out.
You can get us anywhere in the world.
That's
right.
Global.
That's what I
hear.
Unbelievable.
Yeah.
Yeah, the civic media is free to download and free to use.
Yes, yes.
Just check us out there.
And then, of course, you can text us or give us a voice note.
Voice note.
You
can
get a
voice
note.
Yeah.
And we haven't gotten a lot of voice notes, just one that you guys seem to overplay.
What's a brand new
dramatically?
Yeah, let's play it again.
Why?
Troy from Mount Horam.
Tell that
bittersing guy to shut his yeah.
I think Troy was just testing it to see if it worked.
Yeah, I think he really meant that.
No, no.
But we
like to play.
No, we love everybody out in Mount Horam, you know, the grumpy troll.
Yeah, the trolls.
And of
course, the apple cider.
Brewer out there as well.
Right next door.
It's kind of overcast this morning.
Eight minutes past the hour.
It's cloudy.
It's feeling a little humid.
I think the dew point is pretty high.
I would assume it is.
Yes.
Very uncomfortable.
We could have some showers and thunderstorms at times today.
We'll check in with Brittany Merleau a little bit later on.
Find out the weather for this week.
Do you have a good weekend?
Well, uh, yeah, I was okay.
I
went to the, I went to the protests on Saturday.
It's good for you.
Huge crowd.
Huge crowd.
And it was all very peaceful.
No problems there, but it was, uh, started at the library mall with the women's march at noon and then, uh, or get together there.
And they marched up State Street, up to the Capitol.
Massive crowd.
Yeah.
The Liberator Mall, did you see that event?
I did, yes.
And did
they dress like
clowns?
They did.
There were lots of clown-like, you know, costumes and all kinds of signs.
I mean, yeah, a huge collection of clown-like gear.
And, yeah, no, it was really good.
Really good.
I really wanted to make it, you know, but hurting my two sons
not
easy, not easy, and we eventually gave up.
Well, it went on until about about five o'clock.
Yeah,
and
that's what I hear.
Yeah, and then of course traffic was crazy.
I know that everybody wanted to get home to see the military parade.
Thank goodness they had a lot of television coverage of that.
Yes, yes.
You know, it wasn't as jam-packed as I thought they would.
No, it was very... I was expecting
huge crowds.
It was very comfortable, wasn't it?
I mean, you know, people had a lot of room, elbow room.
Apparently, there was plenty of additional seating in the bleachers there.
And that
was nice, you know, people could find a seat right away.
looked like the president fell asleep a couple of times during the march that's what it looked like to me wasn't all that uh
i personally think he was actually just dreaming about you could see him kind of maneuvering and you know grouchy scowl on his face
going in and out of consciousness yeah
kind of like you know move his head back
quickly.
I was like, Oh,
yeah, I
am busy.
He was tired.
Yeah, he was trying to
Well, barely keeping consciousness out there in the stands.
That was really an embarrassment.
And I enjoy that, you know?
I was just on the way here.
I was looking at pictures of it.
And they had a back shot of where Chuck sat.
And he was standing up, I guess, you know, that he was giving his speech or something like that.
But he was standing up in front of him across the street, empty.
Empty
seats.
Really?
Oh, that's too
bad.
Well, there was loud.
There was rain and thunderstorms in the forecast.
Yeah, that was it.
Sure, that kept a lot of people away.
Oh, I'm sure that was
it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, that was too bad.
I don't think he's gonna live that down.
I won't
let him forget.
That's for sure.
A little bit later on, we're gonna talk to Tiffany Hobbs.
She's from Los Angeles radio station KFI AM, big station in LA.
Yeah.
And she's gonna give us, you know, the lowdown on what's been happening in Los Angeles for the last week or so.
Right.
And of course we'll be talking to Pam Yonkey here in about 10 minutes or so.
Get the food and farm report from the Midwest.
Lots of things coming up.
Over the weekend, last couple of weeks, we had our Scotty Summer Text-to-Win Contest.
And I was able to get ahold of one of our grand prize winners.
Do you have that queued up there, Dom?
Yes, we do.
Yes, we do.
Let's play it.
All right, let's listen
to this.
All right, let's listen.
Here we go.
All right.
Hello.
Hello.
My name is Gordy.
I'm calling for Trace.
This is he.
Wait,
is this Gordy of John and Gordy?
This is.
How you doing?
Cool.
Hey, man.
What's up?
Well, let me tell you, you have been selected as one of our grand prize winners in our Scotty Summer Text-to-Win Contest.
Are you kidding me?
No.
I'm not kidding at all.
Oh, my God.
I told my wife.
I was like, I'm going to manifest this.
We're winning it.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Oh, my God.
I love you guys.
I listen every day on the way
to work.
Well, Trace, you have won a two night stay in the White Lace Inn in Sturgeon Bay in Door County.
Congratulations.
Oh, that's great.
I can't believe it.
I would just told my wife that I'm going to win this contest because I never win anything.
So this is great.
Fantastic.
Well, congratulations from everybody at Civic Media and at WMDX.
We appreciate you listening.
Thank you all.
I love you guys this show.
I listen every morning.
Terrific.
Thanks, Tony.
I appreciate you.
Beautiful.
OK,
so Trace is a happy camper there.
Very
wholesome, very wholesome.
Yeah, that's
a
great place to go, too.
Oh,
yeah.
So lucky.
That'll be a good time.
And we had another grand prize winner.
I don't have that one with me today, but another grand prize winner who won a bed and breakfast at Baraboo at the Ringling House.
Big fan of who?
Actually, listen on a different station.
I got W HMS.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
Okay.
Yeah, I don't have it in front of me.
So
we had so many stations in the civic media group
25.
I think yeah 25 and counting.
Yes
So, let's see.
I stopped counting at 20.
Did you?
I don't know why I said
that.
Well, let's check the history books here.
Dom has been working all weekend long to gather the information up.
And what do you got for us this
morning?
I'm very excited for this.
I'm very excited for this.
I love this segment.
I love every day whenever we do the segment.
All right.
Well, should we interrupt him?
Because we have the National Day Calendar.
No, no,
no.
We don't really do
the National Day Calendar.
We don't do the National Day Calendar.
Well, no, we
don't do the National Day calendar, but we do want to know what we're missing.
Yeah, I guess you're right.
Let's go check it.
All right.
Hang on a second now.
You caught me unprepared here.
I know that.
It's National Fudge Day.
That's the only thing on the calendar.
What?
That's it.
That's it.
One thing.
National Fudge Day.
It's like we're skipping this day then.
So go up to the Dells and have some fudge.
Okay, back to you, Dom.
All right, let's go history here.
We got in 1884, the first purpose-built roller coaster, the Switchback Railway was made and actually used.
1884.
1884.
First roller coaster.
I would have been very scared if I went on that roller coaster.
Yeah.
I wouldn't
trust it.
Well, I know, you know, how would the guy introduce it, right?
I don't
know.
This is the very
first roller coaster.
Anybody want to volunteer?
That's the way they talked back then.
They did talk
like that.
Do I
have
some
volunteers?
It may look dangerous,
but it's exciting.
Hold on to your hats.
Okay, what else?
Alright, and then in 1903...
The Pepsi Cola Company forms.
Oh, there we go.
What a moment that was.
Very, very, very nice there.
Yes, yeah.
OK.
And then in 1933, the FDIC is created.
So there we go.
All right, that's
really
exciting.
Absolutely fascinating
in there.
Were you, way back when, you know, Gordy and I go back, were you a big Pepsi fan or a Coke fan?
You know,
there were the groups.
Always Coca-Cola for me because my grandfather.
drank Coca-Cola and it worked at a bottling plant for a while.
Coca-Cola, bottling plant.
Good
reason, yeah.
Well, how about the flavor?
Were you a hip
to the flavor?
Pepsi's too sweet for me.
That's what I was thinking
too.
Yeah.
But Coca-Cola, it's got a little kick to it.
See, I always go with the underdog and I really wanted to back Pepsi.
Yeah.
Because, you know, everybody like Coke.
Yeah.
And everybody still loves Coke, man.
Sure.
Okay.
I don't
know.
All right.
Go ahead.
Anywho, all right.
Yeah, I'm done with that one.
Let's go to not condoning any use of any illegal products.
Okay.
All right.
And then we'll, we'll go to birthdays here.
All right.
Tupac, 1971, birthday was today.
Okay.
Catherine Graham, who I didn't know I had to search that up, 1917.
She was.
Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah, she made the Washington Post.
She
transformed
into the one of the most leading newspapers in the U.S.
today.
That's true.
And then Bob Ryland.
I have no idea who this is.
1920.
He was the first African-American to play professional tennis.
Oh, really?
I should have known that.
Bob Ryland,
okay.
All right.
Well, that's did you have a good
weekend by the way you went camping, right?
Yes, unfortunately, I went camping I went to what do you mean?
Unfortunately, what happened?
I went to Governor Thompson about an hour north of Green Bay and it rained the entire time it down poured every every second I mean we try to make a fire it went out after five minutes.
Yeah
Do you have a tent?
We made a tent.
It was kind of janky, but we ended up making it.
And we only spent like half a night there.
And then we left early in the morning.
What?
Just half a night?
Yeah.
We gave up.
We gave up.
I realized I'm not good outside, so I just, I tend to just stay inside.
Any mosquitoes out there?
Where do you
stay inside?
Well, I just went into my car, we ended up sleeping in my car.
That's what I was thinking.
But in terms of mosquitoes, yeah, I have a couple on my foot, I have one on my butt cheek, so I mean, I've got quite a few right
now.
Yeah, they find different places to go.
Wow.
Wow.
Yeah, that should be a lesson.
Dumb, never go camping again.
I learned my lesson back then as well.
So golden age, you know, you'll learn never go camping.
Well, I mean, when it's raining, yeah, that's miserable.
No, it's miserable no matter what.
Really?
You got to sleep on the ground.
That's not.
Spiders on our tent and everything.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
You
get a mattress.
Bugs.
Bugs.
Snakes and spiders.
And
horseflies.
Yeah.
Bad
stuff.
Bad stuff.
Well, we're glad you survived.
You know, with hotels and all that stuff and all these resorts, why would you ever sleep outside and attend?
What is
wrong with you people?
How about a cabin?
Would you go for a cabin?
Yeah, or definitely a cabin.
Sure.
I like a cabin too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Good enough.
So that was your weekend, huh?
Yeah, it was pretty easy.
And then I have my birthday tomorrow.
So I'm expecting big things tomorrow.
How old are you going to be?
I'm going to be 22 with the right baby 22.
That's really sad.
All right.
What?
What's sad about
that?
So much to learn.
So many
things to do.
OK.
All right.
Well, that sounds good.
All right, coming up right around the corner, we've got Pam Yonkey.
What's she going to be talking
about?
Big tip, do not deal pot, OK?
Do not deal
pot.
What did that come from?
What are you talking about?
John's giving me life lessons out here.
Yes, that's right.
Life lessons.
Don't do it.
Well, tomorrow we're going to talk to Jesse Christensen.
He's with Cannabis DNP.
Now
you can learn a little bit more about
it.
He's going to be telling us about cannabinoid therapeutics.
There's a whole new, I don't know, product line of taffy or something.
It's like, not gummies, but taffy.
Wow.
Cannabis taffy.
Okay.
19 past the hour.
Pam Yonkey is right around the corner on John and Gordy in the morning.
Don't you go anywhere.
92.7, John and Gordy in the morning.
Kind of a rainy morning after all.
Yeah, I got to say this.
This is really scary and ghostly.
What are
you talking about?
I turned my car on this morning and my windshield wipers are going.
Yeah.
And the back windshield wiper was on.
I didn't do that.
That wasn't something I switched off.
I don't know how my car knew it was raining.
and put the wiper blades on.
It's a smart car.
But it completely freaked me out.
No, it's not a smart car.
So I don't know what happened.
Okay.
All right.
Just a little note.
Thank you for that report.
Thank you.
Yeah, we've got some drizzle, some light rain right now and temperatures in the mid sixties.
We'll get up to about 80 today.
It's going to be warm and humid this afternoon.
Pam Yankee joins us now from the Midwest Food and Farm report.
Good morning, Pam.
Yeah, morning, guys.
You know what?
Mine does the same thing.
automatically turns on my back windshield weathers don't my front one will all of a sudden just randomly start if it feels any moisture on my windshield it did it yesterday afternoon I was coming from bearable and all of a sudden I didn't notice I didn't even notice the raindrops or you know the speckles on my windshield but it did so
yeah
But you know, but the thing is the back window.
Yeah, that one would have that doesn't do that.
Yeah.
Mine doesn't mean freak you out.
It was weird.
I'm still kind of freaked out about that.
So give us a recap of your weekend.
How about breakfast on the farm?
Yeah.
How'd that go?
You talk about freaked out.
That's the way a lot of little people were feeling on Saturday when they got up close to some of the dairy cows at the Hinchley dairy down by Cambridge.
First of all,
Thanks to all the volunteers.
Thanks to everybody that showed up.
They were guessing north of 5,000 people that were there starting at 7 a.m.
The line.
I got a chance to have a pancake.
I looked down to eat my pancake.
I look back up and all of a sudden there was a swarm of humanity waiting to stream into the machine shed for breakfast.
So it really happened fast, but it was a well-coordinated effort.
I thought it was really interesting to see what people are gravitating towards.
I
mean, obviously the cows, the cows are the big attraction.
Everybody wants to see them and kind of get a little perspective on how big they are.
But it was also cute to see they had three barn kitties, three barn kitties, and kids could line up to hold the barn kitties.
Now, I mean, kitties, babies of any kind are cute.
But when you put barn kitties with little kids, it was just...
If you want to see the pictures, I've got some up at Midwest Farm Report and Fabulous Farm Babe on Facebook.
The moms and the parents would be with the little kids so they didn't hurt the kitties or do anything like that.
But I thought to myself, holy man, are those kitties going to sleep well tonight?
They've been passed through hundreds of homes
through the
course of the morning, but no, it was really well done.
Third time that the Hinchleys had hosted it.
So again, like we said, really, really well done for sure.
All right.
That's excellent.
You know, Cambridge is quite a nice little town.
It is.
Been through there a
number of times.
Yeah.
Great little shops over there.
Love them.
Now, we did talk about the artisan butter last week.
Well, now let's talk about the food and beverage innovation camp that's going on.
Kekelman is putting this in.
Well, it's their part of it.
So I didn't even, I didn't know that this was going on.
If you live or drive through the Jefferson area.
So what they're calling this is a food and beverage innovation campus.
And what they're doing, Jefferson County, I don't know if you're aware is home to
quite a few different food companies.
Nestle Food is down there.
There's a lot of different food related companies.
And
now they've decided to try to bring them all together in this food and beverage innovation campus.
Kekelman is the first to financially commit to building their factory there and that's already underway.
According to the economic development people that are connected with it, they said they've already invested about $563 million to create this
welcoming area and one of the reasons why Jefferson is so well suited for this is the workforce.
That's something that Jefferson pouted for a long time and they want to continue to bank on that.
So this looks like it is very well supported not only in Jefferson County as far as public money but also as far as the agribusinesses and food companies that are interested in coming there.
The next phase after they get started with the actual brick and mortar
of the food manufacturing side of things will be focusing in on creating the residential element for all the employees that these companies are going to be needing.
They
said
they know that they're out there but they want to make sure they're close to where they're going to have to work.
So that'll be the next phase.
That's great.
All right.
Let's talk about border college because I have one.
I have a two year old that can't stop working in the yards.
Yeah, I used to have one too.
Yeah.
They're great dogs.
Yeah.
Oh, they, so long as you'd like to, to your point, so long as you've got something for them to do.
And that is exactly what Cooper, the six year old border colleague, a 15 year old, four age girl named Addison Connelly up in Galesville in Treplo County has been fascinated and partnered up with her dogs really since she was a little kid.
And through 4-H, the clover kid, she got started with this dog, Cooper, who's now sick.
They are on their way to Portugal in a couple of weeks for the 4-H Team USA Junior Open Agility World Championship.
The dog's going along right now.
He's going through his shots and making sure he's got papers.
He has seven different commands just to get him through the jump obstacle.
Think
about that.
Wow.
Now don't
they
usually use like signals, but she uses
her voice now.
Yep.
She did use she did use hand signals and now Cooper's so good.
She can use her voice.
So this is happening in Portugal.
Why?
Why Portugal?
Why?
Because it's an international.
International.
It's like it's like the 4-H team Olympics.
So this
will be 4-H kids from around the world in Portugal doing this.
They've got the Border Collie competitions right here in Wisconsin.
Do they?
Well, they've got Border
Collie competitions all over
the world.
All over, huh?
Go to Ireland and watch how they work those Border Collies.
Oh, yeah.
Well, gotta give them something to do and give them a lot of competitions is one way of
doing it.
Gotta keep them busy.
They want to work.
Oh, man.
I'm on a tough schedule.
Mine keeps me on a schedule.
Pam Yonkey, the fabulous farm babe.
Thank you so much, Pam.
All
right, buddies, we'll talk on Friday.
All right, that's good.
OK, 29 minutes past the hour, right around the corner.
Idiocracy, we've got a lot to get to today.
It's all coming up on John and Gordy in the morning.
Can't
wait.
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point, a dumbing down, until humanity was incapable of solving even its most basic problems.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered
a rational thought.
Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber.
You go and do something like this.
We can duck and cover.
There's a fall each other right there.
There's no way to survive this, you idiot.
Idiocracy.
For the smartest guy in the world, you're pretty dumb sometimes.
They're always dumb.
And finally, we caught another dumb one.
Yeah.
Vance Bolter.
Yeah.
Captured in a woods.
Major manhunt there and they managed to have him crawl to them on the ground to just make sure he was somewhat safe still armed though Yeah, they have the killer in custody at this point in Minnesota
We got to all of this in just a moment.
It is 6 36 cloudy and rainy this morning Maybe some showers and storms later today highs near 80 right now 65 this portion of the show brought to you by burlow mattress.
You can wake up and sleep better
On a Verlo mattress, plenty has changed since 1958, but some things remain constant through Verlo's history.
They're still direct to consumer providing superior products at unbeatable prices.
Verlo mattress, two Madison locations, east and west, go to Verlo.com.
Yes, they captured that suspect, Vance Bolter.
Yes.
The shooting of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.
He was arrested late last night and overnight.
Largest man hunt in Minnesota's history.
He's charged with two counts of murder and second in the second degree and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree Shooting allegedly state representative Melissa Hortman and killing her and her husband They were shot on Saturday same gunman shot Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife who survived this attack and
That's where things stand this morning.
So he's been captured.
Hey, why don't you queue up cut 145 for us?
So this is a TV reporter talking about who Vance like most Listen
We even asked about Mr. Bolter's political affiliations and David Carlson once again his roommate and best friend known him since fourth grade did say Bolter voted for Trump and that he was a strong supporter
Yes, okay.
Yes, and it kind of clears that up.
I mean the right wing of course is saying that he he's a liberal
because he had worked for a while for with governor
for a while But yeah, and and the previous governor was also a Democrat.
So it was a volunteer thing.
It's a Kind of a citizen panel and they ask people to be on it and he's been on that a few times.
So yeah
Yeah, supposedly.
Oh yeah, big, big Trump fan.
And he's a Christian nationalist as well.
I have another cut here, cut 146.
And this is an example of him dancing and preaching on stage for Jesus.
Let's listen.
And I'm just as excited about Jesus.
Right
here,
right now.
And when I get excited, I want to dance.
And what Jesus did for me!
Oh!
Jesus
is God!
Oh my God!
He saved my life!
I'm
excited about God!
And I want to worship him!
Oh my God!
Because he's coming again!
And he's got plans.
He's got plans
and purposes for each one of you.
And for me.
There
you go.
So that's Vance
Bolter.
So that was God's, I guess, plans for Bolter, and that is to kill people.
And he's pro-life, by the way, just to let you know as well.
Wow.
Yeah, that says a lot.
Well, good news is he's been captured.
Yeah, and Now we'll face those charges.
Well, you know, I mean this is kind of gonna catch on I think as well members of a several fry right mega affiliated groups are now urging members to carry out acts of violence against protesters and The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that members of the proud boys were making violent threats on their app telegram
One proud boy organizer reportedly said, you just have to impale a few of them while another declared it was a riot season again.
Shoot a couple, the rest will go home.
And that's what they're talking about.
Yeah, that's awful.
Yep.
Well, it's not a funny idiocracy today.
No,
not a lot of tragedy.
Yeah.
But you know what?
I got a web wisdom for you here.
Yeah.
Yeah, this is this is somebody who's saying, you know, they hear as well as we have been hearing that a lot of people are saying, this is what you voted for.
This is what you voted for.
Well,
and they're saying, no, this isn't what we voted for.
No.
You know what?
No, you did vote for this.
Let's listen.
No, come back to the front.
Come back to the front.
Y'all was all loud and bold and proud.
of everything.
No, no, no, this is exactly what you voted for.
Don't sit up here talking about something you were lied to.
No, baby, you believed the lie you told yourself.
You were trying to rationalize the thoughts of an irrational person and now you sit up here acting like you're in confusion.
Now, baby, this is exactly what you voted for.
Now that me, mom and papa don't have the Medicare coverage they need to take care of dialysis, now you talking about something that's not what you voted for.
Now that he took away research funding for cancer treatment and HIV vaccine, oh, now this ain't what you voted for.
Now that you and your
kids can't eat no more because he took away snap benefits because you're disabled and can't get medicated for you your kids no more now that ain't what you voted for oh no baby you voted for it all you voted for it all but because you thought it was gonna affect people who look like me and other marginalized communities you was more than willing to vote for him because you thought it was not gonna affect you I'll say it once I'll say it twice I'll say it 3,000 times unless you are a millionaire billionaire or a dictator you are a minority as well to that man
And now the rest of us got to find out because you decided to f&m.
Yep.
There you go.
It's a web
wisdom.
Yeah, exactly.
All right.
Telling it like it is.
I love those.
Phone lines are open, by the way.
608-879-8255-608-879 Talk.
Matt, if you want to give us a call back, we had your call, but we lost your call.
You can chime in.

You can chime in.
Again, 608-879-8255-608-879 Talk.

five, five.
We have a golden valley suggesting that maybe the AI on my phone turned the wipers on.
Hmm.
Yeah, your wipers just automatically came on, especially the back wiper
this morning.
Yes, freak you out.
The back wiper really freaked me out because you got to kind of turn a little knob at the end of the arm to get that to work.
I don't know.
I don't just like.
It blew my mind.
The car, again, it's haunted.
You know, this is another Christine.
Well, do you think
maybe one of the boys took your car out last night when you were asleep?
Maybe they were out driving around.
It was raining.
Did you let him borrow the
car?
That's a really good explanation.
Are they
trustworthy?
Well, I only have one son that drives, but he doesn't like to drive my car at all.
Oh, he doesn't.
Why not?
It's a problem.
It's too small.
And I had the windows, I had the windows tinted because as I was driving around while I was doing the senses, that sun really, really baked the inside of the car.
So I
had the windows tinted, but they aren't real dark tints.
But just enough where he is uncomfortable driving at night because of the tinted windows, something I didn't think about.
But anyway, yeah, that's one possibility, but I don't know.
Maybe, maybe not.
You don't
know.
But I do have something, I have something else here, and this is David Glosser, you know who he is?
David Glosser?
He's the uncle of Stephen Miller.
Oh.
Crazy man, Stephen Miller of the administration.
He calls Stephen an immigration hypocrite.
And this was his interview with Anderson Cooper.
Listen.
Okay.
PC wrote, you describe your nephew Stephen Miller as an immigration hypocrite.
What do you mean by that?
It's an important question.
And I have to preface my response by saying that I wrote this article more in sadness than an anger or resentment.
Our family history is entirely dependent upon the fact that our family was able to escape from a terrible situation in what is now the country of Belarus.
Had we not been able to enter America when we did, Stephen Miller would never exist.
And so this notion of chain migration, which is something the administration calls the opportunity for somebody who's come to the United States to apply to get their parents to come, their cousins, brothers or sisters to come, that has been part of your family history, of Stephen
Miller's family history.
That is the classic story of virtually everybody in America who isn't a Native American or who was brought over unwillingly as a slave.
That's
everybody's story.
You referred to your nephew, Stephen, as an immigration hypocrite.
Do you see this administration itself as hypocritical?
The first lady, her parents, just got citizenship based on what the administration would call chain migration.
Well, let's think of it for a second.
As far as I understand, Mr. Trump's grandfather came over, or either his father or his grandfather came over as an immigrant from Germany.
trying to avoid drafting to the German Army.
He's trying to find a new life here in the United States.
And he is married, what's the count now?
Three immigrant women in the United States and has just, through chain migration, her parents have been made citizens of the United States and I welcome them.
Do you see a racial component in
this administration, how they view this issue?
You know, all those epithets are the sorts of things which were said about Jews, Irish, Poles, Hungarians, and virtually Italians, Sicilians, Sardinians.
Everybody from southern Europe, eastern Europe, from the Balkan countries were all condemned and vilified by the so-called America firsters of their day.
These people were described frequently as slime pumped out of the mud tanks of Europe, rapists, murderers, thieves, gangsters.
It is hard to escape the conclusion based on the administration's actions and policies rather than their rhetoric.
It's hard to escape the conclusion that they want to disadvantage people coming from
countries based on their religion, based on their ethnicity, and based on their countries and regions of origin.
Did it surprise you
that Stephen was involved in this, that you see him as a leading voice in this, in the administration?
Sadly, it's no surprise.
It appears that much of his professional identity and his personal identity has been wrapped up in this particular issue, though I do not know why.
Wow.
And his name again, that's David Glosser.
And he's Stephen Miller's uncle?
Yes.
Wow.
Yep.
I think I've heard him speak before about Stephen Miller.
Well, he's trying to explain, give people some insight into the crazy man.
But anyway, that's a little background on him.
So you kind of kind of understand what's going on.
Why don't we go to the phones?
We got Joe on the line.
Joe, what do you got for us this morning?
Oh, so much to do.
You know, I wanted to comment on the fabulous parade, of course, with the squeaky tanks
and
the empty stands.
One person described it as a triumph of the will designed by Bart Simpson.
And I thought
that was
nice.
I did want to come in on the immigration hypocrisy and just to add another layer to it because, you know, Trump had a very bad weekend as we know and came out with
this incredibly aggressive message that he's going to be directing ICE to be upping their game and going to Blue City, New York, Los Angeles again, and Chicago.
But at the same time, he said, gee, you know, we're having an effect here in terms of a bad effect on ag and hospitality industries.
And so he's asking ICE to halt raids on people working in hotels, farms,
and
restaurants.
OK, so what are we getting down to, like the home health care aids and roofers?
I mean, well, if you go and you seek an exemption, every industry is going to go seek an exemption.
Of course.
And so it'll be interesting who gets to see the wrath of Donald after this poor showing on the weekend.
That's
right.
It's
a big layer cake.
It is a layer cake.
Joe,
thank you
for your
call.
Appreciate it.
It's a good point.
Back with more of John and Gordy after this.
Stephanie Miller here.
Listen up, my pals John and Gordy are up for best radio team in Madison Magazine's best of Madison poll.
I know, I was surprised too.
Just kidding, please vote for them because they lead into my show and when they do well, it helps me out too.
Me, me, me.
Love you, John and Gordy.
Thank you.
We love you too, Cesar.
We do.
She follows our show.
A little after eight o'clock right
here.
Right here on WMDX 92.7.
Rain showers this morning and we could be in for some thunderstorms along the way high near 80.
This portion of the show brought to you by Madison Hearing Aid Center at 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison.
They offer fast and flexible appointments, passion over profit, their family owned and they help people change their lives.
Their number one goal.
isn't just selling hearing aids, it's improving the quality of life through better hearing.
Got an excellent website, MadisonHearingAidCenter.com, that's MadisonHearingAidCenter.com, 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison.
Sounds good to me, you know, we're gonna talk about the parade, shall we?
The big parade in Washington, DC.
You know, it's raining a little today.
Maybe everybody should just stay home just like they did for the parade.
Well, here in Madison,
we've got showers right now and the leaf blower guys are out there.
The rain.
Well, you never know.
Trying to find leaves, apparently, but pushing water around on the sidewalk.
I guess it helps clean
things up.
I think he knows something we don't.
So what about the parade in Washington, DC?
They had showers.
Well, Trump
is saying that it was a major success.
And a lot of people were worried that it would be downpours of rain.
So maybe some people stayed at home, but certainly a lot of people, the entire stands.
Well,
they were predicting 250,000 people might show
up for this thing.
I don't think it was, I don't think it quite made that.
No, I don't think so.
Maybe a couple thousand at the most.
You know, I saw a picture this morning of him standing up in the stands.
This was a back shot of Trump in his stands.
Yeah.
And he was facing the street and the stands across the street were completely empty.
And you would think those would be the most high in demand stance, but, you know, no one was there.
No one was there.
It was laughably bad.
And certainly something that he is never going to live down, not on this side of the aisle anyway.
You know, and I'm not, you know, we're not political in that way, but, you know, we do at least recognize there are two sides of the aisle.
And one side, the left side is going to be remembering this for a long time.
I noticed
some of them, you know, I saw some of the video and there were, you know, a few tanks rolling through the streets and then
they have some
squeaky tanks.
They were squeaky rusty old tanks.
And then they have some guys that were, they were just walking.
Some
of the
army guys dressed in fatigues, they weren't marching.
They were just walking.
They weren't marching, you know, uniformly.
There
was
like no cadence to it at
all.
I've got a post here on X and it explains it.
Former army here, it takes about a week of drill and basics to learn how to march.
Once you do, it's ingrained in you for life.
You know how to self-correct if you fall out of step.
And if there isn't a commanding officer leading the march, there's a designated point person within the ranks to call out left, right, left, right.
If they notice there's disorder in cadence, right?
So this...
cluster thing of a parade leaves me with only one conclusion.
This was a silent protest, a Foxtrot Delta Tango, if you will.
A Foxtrot
Delta Tango.
Yeah, of course.
Great name for a band.
Don't give
anybody an idea.
Yeah, rockers should take care of that one.
Of course, you know, there were a few signs out there as well.
There were lots of signs.
I jotted down a few of them here.
Our expectations for you were low, but holy f. Or you know it's bad when a straight white guy makes a sign.
which I thought was one of the better ones.
I think you texted one, no parking anytime.
Right.
They took the park off, so it's just no king anytime.
Yeah, I saw a few of those.
Yeah, five times draft judges don't get military parades.
I'd like to do that taco.
Oh, oh.
Tacos to go, that was one of them.
But did you see the videos on X?
People dressed up as tacos?
Yes, tacos and they had taco tanks.
Oh man.
Oh, those were gorgeous.
Yes, real patriots don't join the Gestapo.
They stop them.
J.D.
Vance puts his cast iron skillet in the dishwasher.
Stop
pretending.
What?
What is
that
about?
Well, people had some issues.
He's not in the Midwestern, everybody thinks.
Stop pretending your racism is patriotism.
Yes, your red hat does make your...
D, you look smaller.
Why do I protest?
It's easier than hiding in my family in an attic.
Twinkle, twinkle, little czar, Putin put you where you are.
I fought fascism in 1945 at 102.
I'm doing it again.
Cleanup on aisle 47.
Imagine being afraid of diversity, but not dictators.
You know, it's bad when an introvert shows up.
If the column were president we'd be at brunch right now You're eating the checks.
They're eating the balances elect a clown expect a circus if Melania doesn't have to live with him.
Why do we have to?
Really
yes Yeah, and how about does it does this ass make my country look fat?
Mmm.
That's
Very creative sign making
why do like that one.
Yeah
a dog war this, nobody's eating the dogs.
Yeah, I did see that one too.
Those are excellent
signs.
Oh yeah, so this is kind of a take off on some of these super callous, fragile, bigot, sexist, he's atrocious.
Yes, yes.
Yeah.
Very creative signs.
There you go.
Okay.
Hey, coming up in our next hour, we are going to check in with Tiffany Hobbs.
She works at KFI AM in Los Angeles, California.
Yeah, she's been covering the protests out
there in LA.
And we'll have her live from LA coming up in about a half hour
or so.
Yes,
yes.
And a whole lot more coming up right around the corner.
We will keep you posted.
We'll also check in with Brittany Merleau, find out what is going on with the weather for today and this week all coming up on John Gordy.
We got a new act.
It's phenomenal.
It's sensational.
It's terrific.
It's either mediocre.
No, it's disgusting.
It's a ploy.
What a ass.
You have a pretty fun show.
I listen to it most of the time, you know.
Keep up
the good work.
God, I love you.
Get the hell off the stage.
Nice work,
everyone.
Sharp broadcast.
Really good.
Good morning, Jan and Gordy.
Good morning, Jan and Gordy.
Good morning, John and Gordy.
Good morning.

I feel so bad for him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's got a
raincoat on.
I mean, he's doing his job.
He's getting paid.
You know, the big hard.
You know, he's hard.
It's the heart of the show.
Blushing.
Seven minutes past the hour.

We're up for best radio team for
Madison
magazine.
Yeah, we don't know how that happened.
Yeah, we have no idea.
But I noticed the poll.
The pressure.
The poll at wmdxradio.com.
You know, we have a poll.
We put up
questions every once in a while.
And the question this time around is, will you vote?
John and Gordy best radio team in Madison Magazine's Best of Madison Bowl.
How did that get
on there?
So shameless.
Four choices here.
You bet.
Love those guys.
That's getting 71% right now.
Shocker.
The second possibility.
Maybe they're OK, I guess.
That's 14.3%.
And then the third choice is probably, but I really don't like John Peterson.
That's
also at 14.3%.
And then the fourth choice is, who is this Gordy person you speak of?
And that got zero percent.
So you can vote.
Just go to wmdxradio.com.
And then if you want to vote for us for Best of Madison.
You know, for Madison Magazine, you just click on the banner when that pops up there.
Yeah, and Doug was also talking on the text line saying, is there any way I can just vote for Dominic?
So, hey, Doug, I appreciate
you.
I
appreciate you, Doug.
I want to put the kibosh on that right away now.
No,
there's no way
to vote for Dominic.
Sorry.
Maybe next year, Dominic.
Yeah, maybe.
Best radio producer.
Right.
Remember the...
They're eating the dogs.
They're eating the cows.
Oh, sure.
Remember that?
Yeah, we've got that.
That was quite the incident.
Oh, yes.
And of
course it proved not to be true, obviously.
Yeah.
But here's the thing.
The promise was to get rid of the criminal elements, the undocumented immigrants in this country who are criminals, who have committed murder, robberies, you know, just illegal activity.
Right.
That was the whole thing.
They were going to clear them up because Biden had let all these criminals in, remember the prisons and other countries were emptied out.
Yes.
And all those people were sent into the U.S.
to immigrate here, all the criminals, right?
Yep.
Well, that's not happening.
It's not.
That isn't happening.
They're going after everybody now.
They're even going after legal.
documented immigrants in this country.
And it's hitting a lot of people now that this is not what they voted for.
But it was very surprising to hear that Joe Rogan is also on our side of this issue.
So why don't we play cut 138.
This is Joe Rogan talking about it.
see a lot of people online talking about this immigrant issue and they either don't have kids or they don't think it could happen to their kids their idea is hey shouldn't come over here you
get those kind of
people broke the law shouldn't come over here if
you
didn't want to get your kids separated if you were in the presence of a woman who came over here from Guatemala and she's poor and she's starving and they're taking her baby away and she's wailing
and
screaming
from a primal place in her DNA that the one thing she loves more than anything is being taken away.
A baby!
If that doesn't freak you the fuck out, you're not a part of the team, man.
You're
missing it.
You're missing it.
What are we here for?
We're here for 100 years of whatever.
That's what we're here for.
If you want to spend 100 years saying, hey, should have the fucking broke the law, I don't want you on the team.
You're
an
asshole.
And I don't give a f*** your right or left.
I don't care if you're religious or I don't care if you're an atheist.
If that's what you support, you're an asshole.
And we don't want you on our team.
I don't give a fuck if they broke the law.
You don't take parents and kids and separate them.
You just fucking don't it's disgusting if you're saying well, they shouldn't have broke the law Maybe they shouldn't have broke the law you don't get to do something That's a thousand times worse than crossing a line the dirt that fucking imaginary line of the dirt crossing that is Nothing in comparison to your crime of stealing a baby from its mother.
That's fucking insane.
That's
right Wow
Okay, I know Joe Rogan.
I don't know if he wanted everybody to replay that someplace.
The way he swore like that.
What's a podcast?
Well, it gave me a whole afternoon of work.
That's all, you know, kept me busy.
But here's the thing about all of that.
And it's finally, you know, settling into a lot of individuals, even magas at this point, that this is all wrong.
Now, I sent that to my mega friend in Milwaukee, and he thought that
Joe Rogan was wrong.
Really?
That it's okay to do these things.
They knew the risks.
They took the risk and this is what happens.
No heart, no feelings, no nothing.
Just total allegiance to the Trump administration.
Now, of course, Trump is finding out that taking these immigrants out of the fields, supplying us with food or
you know the immigrants that are working in hotels hotels and yeah from from major donors who own those hotels
big resource
that's a big uh it's a big issue now and he has called them off he said he is not going to be deporting any of those individuals in the fields in the hotels
the janitors
housekeeping how that works out yeah
suddenly
he's had that realization yeah i gotta ask are we gonna ever
get your Milwaukee friend on the show?
I feel like we need your Milwaukee friend on the show for a little bit.
Well,
we've
done them on a couple of times.
Yeah, they're afraid to come on, though, like CJ's afraid to come on and tell us the rest of the story.
But
they don't
get up early enough because they don't work.
But we do have Mark on the line.
You can call us to 608-879-8255.
Let's go to Mark.
Let's go to Mark.
Good morning, Mark.
What do you got for us today?
Yeah, good morning.
I was there on the Wisconsin River Bridge, there on Highway 12 on Saturday with my fellows from Sock Prairie there.
And there was well over 200 people there.
And I see a video clip out there on their Facebook page right now.
My sign, I did a little more complicated one.
It was kind of a schoolhouse rock.
And I go rocking and rolling, marching and chatting.
on the horizon what can it be looks like it's going to be a trump free country so
all
right for
you mark yeah that's good
yeah there was a lot of thumbs up of people going by um very few people you know flipping us off or or there's one just one truck went by with flying a trump flag and and an american flag on its bed rubbing its engine and belching out diesel smoke at us beautiful
One little bit went walking by, walking down on our side of the bridge there, you know, cursing at us, and nobody, it was tempted to toss his ass in the river.
So that
was on the
Highway 12 bridge
across?
Highway 12 bridge in Sock City.
On the South Goinside, it was full of people on the northbound side.
There was one low-end Trump supporter, and there was a few of
a few people from our side of the political stream talking to the guy.
There was just one guy there, you know, supporting Trump.
So, I mean, over 200 people were on that bridge.
I mean, that was just really nice vibe.
There's one police officer there standing there.
I talked to that young man for a bit.
Nobody was getting out of hand.
There was just some motorcyclists who were giving up.
You know the truck behind them they were kind of going they were kind of beeping I want to the gun we guys laying on the horn to bought it and those guys in the motorcycles were being Being decks I guess so they um, you know, but he didn't need to feel the need to even go over there and then take care of that I mean that That's why it it um
And
then it was a really nice vibe really nice friendly really nice friendly vibe
you guys made it over to the vintage and I had a couple beers after that
Yeah, I don't know.
I had to get home for the dog because he's probably wondering, well, why?
Yeah, we're, yeah.
Well, it's good to
see you got there, man.
Beautiful, beautiful day.
I mean, well, it's a mile away, so it's easy for me to get there.
And there you go.
And so it was a lot of fun and I talked to some nice people and it was just, it was great.
Good deal, Mark.
All right.
Well, thanks for calling in with that
report.
Thanks for throwing that mega guy over the bridge and into the dam.
No, no.
Yeah, I know here in Madison.
I went to the protest on Saturday.
It was almost a festive atmosphere
It
was it was very peaceful and no I didn't see any trouble.
I didn't hear any reports of big problems here and a huge crowd about 15,000 they say
you know it wasn't just a bad showing for the big parade for Trump in Washington and the anniversary of the army right but it was also a flag day and they had a big problem the Department of Defense put a post for
on Flag Day, displaying a white, blue, and red striped flag.
And that is the same flag that Russia flies overhead.
That is the Russian flag.
So they actually... The Department of Defense did this?
Yes, they posted this big poster saying, hey, it's Flag Day.
And they had a U.S.
flag there, of course.
But at the bottom, there were two Russian flags posted.
How
convenient.
What
the hell?
Okay, how did that
happen?
I don't know how that happened there.
We get hacked.
They're not very smart, right?
Shoot they thought they'd put the white blue and red in that order Unfortunately at the bottom and it is it is the wrong place So all those people who are angry about the Mexican flag, you know and those people holding those make Mexican flags They should be deported to well.
I don't know how about the Russian flag.
Are you still as angry?
Yeah Yeah
Okay, wow.
That's something, isn't
it?
Says anyone who thinks the obvious Russian flags in the State Department's flag day post are accidental, clearly forgot when edgy little fascists work in the DeSantis camp, they snuck a son-in-rad
into a campaign ad and what people making this content know exactly what they're doing.
Oh, a son in red is a Sunwheel symbol originating in Nazi Germany and later employed by neo-Nazis and other
far
right individual groups.
The symbol design consists of six radial SS logos.
That's hey, and that's uh, and they incorporated that into DeSantis had Yikes So the Department of Defense Russian flags DeSantis, you know, the Nazi symbols sweet amazing.
Okay.
It's all happening.
Yeah, it sure is Coming up.
We're gonna talk to Brittany Merlot get the latest on the wet weather that we have on the way forward looks like much of the rest of the

Do we have, do we have that song, the John and Gordy song by?
Oh, by Art Paul?
Art Paul.
Yeah.
We're gonna have to dig for that.
Let me dig for that.
We definitely have it.
We definitely have it.
Okay.
Yeah, we'll just throw that at you and see what happens.
But we've got Brittany here.
Yes.
And we got to find out what's going on with the weather.
Brittany, my windshield wipers were on automatically when I turned my car on this morning.
We don't know why that happened.
No idea.
It's just, it's really strange.
And the weirdest thing, the windshield wiper on the back window was turned on.
And that takes an extra effort.
You got to turn a little knob at the end of the.
handle in order to turn that windshield wiper on.
I'm like stunned.
It wasn't me.
I didn't do any of this stuff.
Sure.
No.
Okay.
You ever had something
like that happen?
Yeah, it's haunted.
Yeah.
You know, my little Prius.
I love it when it works, though.
Yeah.
When it doesn't work and you need it.
Yeah.
No, that's good stuff.
But yeah, you guys have some light rain just as blob of dreariness hanging over the city there, Yuck.
Yes.
Kind of tracking in.
I think it should be out of there by nine, ten o'clock this morning.
More spots of sun as you go through the afternoon and of course hot and humid.
I, you know, I just need to vent.
Sorry.
Yeah, go ahead.
Temperatures are at 64 degrees right now.
That is warmer than I got all weekend long.
We had highs on the fifties here.
I felt like fall.
Wow.
That's
crazy.
Look at it.
You guys, upper seventies, eighties, summer.
It was really hot yesterday.
So what did you do this week?
Did you get out and enjoy the
cool weather?
I did.
So I pretended it was fall and I went for a mountain bike ride and hurt my back a little bit.
I rode way too hard.
So this morning I
was just
rolled out of bed.
Doing flips on your bike, man, I tell you,
you are
risky.
You know
how to take
those chances, I guess.
So what can we expect for the rest of this week?
Yeah, so a lot of heat and humidity still building in on the muggy nest still stuck there today highs in the mid 80s both today and tomorrow We're looking at chances of some storms moving in overnight.
Some of those could be on the stronger side Maybe some gusty winds smaller hail and then of course more tomorrow afternoon Probably from one to five o'clock or so.
Some of those could be strong to severe again Those will clear out pretty quick.
So we'll have a dry evening
Fortunately, another low pressure system heads our way Wednesday, so another wet day Wednesday.
That could be a potential soaker.
Highs at about 80 now, so we'll fall to the low 80s Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Thursday Friday looks mainly dry, but then the heat and humidity build even more.
I'm talking 90 degree temperatures.
Wait, John, it's so gross Friday to upper 70 dew points.
Oh, the dew points in the 70s.
Oh,
my God.
You're going to have to stay in
the 60s was bad.
I
know.
I want to warn everybody, you know, the
two points, that's the important number.
That is the most important number.
Yeah, it is.
I agree with you.
See, I know my weather.
Wetness in the air and it's just sweat.
It's gross.
It won't evaporate.
I hate it.
That's why I'm rocking the curly hair because you can't be straight
hair.
Looks good.
Good stuff, yeah.
The humidity's up.
You can't.
Thank you guys.
Thank you, Brittany.
We appreciate that report.
Well,
I've got something here for Brittany.
Oh, you
do?
Yeah.
For the past four years, a fleet of drone vessels has
purposefully steered into the heart of hurricanes to gather information on the storm's wind speeds, wave height, and critically the complex transfer of heat and moisture between the ocean and the air above it.
But the company's sail drone was unable to bid on its contract this time around and prevented sail drone from actually having these these sail drones back in the water again off of Florida in order to help
predict those hurricanes.
It's another example of the way the Trump administration has fumbled storm preparedness at NOAA because they delayed it too long.
Now they don't have these drones in the water to help predict the hurricanes.
Wow, I didn't know
they
had drones out there.
Yeah, there's a little sailboat drones that go out.
That sounds pretty cool.
I want to see one now.
Wow, that's important.
That is important, important data because we don't want to be out there in the middle of the ocean gathering it.
We don't want to send the people to the middle of the ocean.
So, oh no.
And they had actually a new feature.
The observations were set to be piped directly into forecast models through newer, faster processes this year with the goal of boosting accuracy.
So we can forget about
that.
Thank
you, Noah, for being late on this one because
they
laid everybody off, right?
I know.
I just love going backwards.
You know, we have all the science and data and, you know, growth so we can actually know what's happening for forecasts and then gone.
I know.
I know.
It's dangerous
stuff.
We'll see what happens.
All
right, Brittany, thank you so much.
We will check in with you again tomorrow morning.
Appreciate it.
That's our WMDX chief meteorologist, Brittany Merleau.
This portion of John and Gordy in the morning brought to you by our friends at Verlo mattress.
You can wake up and sleep better on a Verlo mattress.
A lot has changed a lot, John, since they opened their doors.
I know they've got the adjustable bed frames
in 1958.
Yes, that's a fairly recent development.
The adjustable bed frames that you are so.
They're
not just hospital beds anymore.
They're very comfortable.
I'm telling you, you will never regret.
I get on my damn soapbox every time I get
into this.
Well, at Virlo Mattress, they're still direct to consumer and provide superior products at unbeatable prices.
Virlo Mattress, two Madison locations, east and west.
Just go to Verlo.com.
Yes, we love those adjustable bit frames, don't we?
Coming up next, after the news and after the Midwest Farm Report, it's Tiffany Hobbs from K-F-I-A-M in Los Angeles, California, live.
We will check with her and find out what's going on
in LA.
In the
broadcast, yeah.
Coming up on Johnny
Gordy.
John and Gordy in the morning from Capital City, Madison.
We hope you're having a great morning despite the light drizzle outside.
Yeah,
we've got some showers and currently in the mid 60s we'll get up to a high near 80 this afternoon.
Maybe some thunderstorms on the way later on today.
Time to welcome in our guest from Los Angeles, California.
live on the phone right now.
We have Tiffany Hobbs from KFI AM in LA.
Good morning, Tiffany.
Good morning, John and Gordy.
And what an interesting forecast you are looking forward to today.
It sounds similar to LA minus the rain,
but
happy summer.
Yes.
Well, you don't have a smog out there anymore, right?
I mean, it's just overcast.
Yeah, there's no smog in LA whatsoever.
That's what
I
heard.
Yeah.
So you're a talk show host at KFI in
LA.
I am.
I am.
We are one of the biggest talk stations in the country.
Definitely the biggest in LA.
And we're carried by iHeartMedia and live on the radio as well.
Well, that's fantastic.
You've been covering the LA protests out there.
And, you know, it just seems to me that there's a difficult
time now for a lot of people to figure out what's really going on in these protests.
Now you've had actual people out there who are participants, or at least walking along with a lot of the protesters.
I can't remember.
Is it Chris Alter who reports with you as well?
Chris Attler is an independent journalist, but we've had our own reporter, Michael Monks out there, our news reporter.
I know a number of people who have participated and or covered the protests.
And they're still ongoing.
They're kind of indefinite at this point, but a lot of real-time information.
I've been in the middle of the protest as an observer, as media as well, so seeing it from all angles.
Well, you know, the difference, I think, this time around is that...
Now the Megas don't want people to protest at all.
In the old days, we were allowed to protest, but nowadays they don't want anybody to protest.
And I'm trying to figure this out because, you know, we see the peace will protest.
And then all of a sudden, the police are there and they're pushing them back.
And I don't know why they're pushing them back.
I mean, there are very few protesters to begin with at most of these protests.
And then they push them off to the side and then they.
They arrest them, and I'm not quite sure why all of this is happening.
Do you have an explanation?
I know a lot of this stuff takes place in the afternoon after the peaceful protest, but suddenly the police come in and they start pushing people around.
Is it because of the curfew, or what is it that makes them want to be aggressive toward these peaceful protesters in the first place?
Well, there's quite a lot going on at once or simultaneously.
So this all started a little over a week ago, two Thursdays ago now.
where the ICE immigration raids were happening here in LA.
Seemingly, spontaneously, others may have had an idea that this was coming, but for the general public, it was practically out of nowhere.
And people began responding to those immigration raids that Thursday evening, Friday afternoon, Friday morning, and then into that weekend.
We
immediately saw an increase
police presence in that zone.
And those of you around the country, you know, outside of LA may be wondering what that zone actually consists of.
It's really practically a little over one square mile in our downtown district.
Every big city has a downtown that's bustling with its cultural events, with its sporting events, with its housing, whatever it may be.
And we certainly have one as well.
And within that downtown district are also our federal buildings, our law enforcement headquarters.
And so everything happened right there in front of our main federal building where it was reported that some of these detainees by ICE were being held.
And so people went down there, exercised their constitutional right with their bull horns, with their signs, with their marching, and they were doing so peacefully.
But that increased
law enforcement presence, excuse me, presence with LAPD, with our sheriff's department, really did inflame an otherwise peaceful situation.
And the lines kind of those...
skirmish lines appeared and the increased police presence already is intimidating.
The optics of police in more militarized gear definitely is off-putting for the most peaceful of protesters because people were saying, we don't need you here.
Why are you here?
And as police became more aggressive in their enforcement, you did have people, of course, continuing to exercise their right and demanding that they were to stay where they were.
But police became physically agitating and started to, you know, actually physically push people back.
The
mounted police came out.
You had the flashbang.
You had the
here gas deployed.
This was all before the curfew ever took effect.
This is within the first couple of days where I was actually situated.
I don't live far from this area and I was able to access it easily.
And so while watching what was initially peaceful turn into something a lot more volatile, it could really be
pinpointed the the the center of it or at least the origin of it could be pinpointed as these flashbangs as the deployment of this tear gas because then you have crowds running so people stamp heating you have people trying to get over each other and running into things and yes all of that completely inflamed the situation yes there are
agitators on the protest side who are not at all affiliated with the protesters.
Let me just be clear.
We've seen this in previous situations back to Trayvon Martin in the early 2010s, all the way up till now, these alternative fringe groups that come out, and that do want to rabble-route.
They use these opportunities, these protests that are peaceful, to
you know, exercise the right to their own cause, but their display becomes a lot more violent.
That's where you see on the news, I'm sure covered right there in Madison as well.
People throwing things over the freeway overpass at police squad cars below.
People graffitiing the buildings, people throwing things at the skirmish line.
So those are not
the original protesters who are angry and incensed about these ICE immigration raids.
These are people who use the opportunity to continue to inflame situations to their own benefits.
And then when they leave, the peaceful protesters are essentially left to pick up the pieces.
And those pieces that they're picking up resulted in this
curfew being implemented by our mayor, Karen Bass, who is doing so to protect the businesses down there because, of course, there has been destruction, there has been vandalism by these friends' groups as well, and that curfew is in...
place indefinitely as of this morning it is 8 p.m.
to 6 a.m.
so it's about to wind down in about 15 minutes our time but it is being said to be in place according to our mayor Karen Bass in
Definitely.
Talking with Tiffany Hobbs from KFI AM Radio in Los Angeles, California.
So let's talk a little bit more about the curfews and review for us again how this works.
What time are the protesters supposed to be out of that area?
8.
8 p.m.
8 p.m.
to 6 a.m.
Pacific Standard Time.
However...
as 8 p.m.
starts to approach, and we're still in, you know, twilight around 8 p.m.
It's dusk.
It's still, you know, pretty lit up, which is the opposite of twilight.
It's a little bit brighter, but for all of our science people out there, but around 7 p.m.
is when you start to see the police presence increase, even as early as maybe 6 p.m.
They're stationed downtown law enforcement, now also,
You have the Marines that have been circulating.
You do have this increased militarized force
here.
They're
circulating anyway, but around 6 p.m., 7 p.m., they really start to ramp up their presence.
So even though the curfew goes into effect in 8 p.m., it is highly encouraged that people start to disperse and
leave the
area well before that.
Hundreds of thousands of residents that live in this downtown area, I would say tens of thousands who are directly impacted by the curfew zone, including businesses.
The Disney Concert Hall is there.
We
have the Grammy Museum there.
There are the place where the Lakers play, crypto.com.
That's right there as well, right on the outside of the zone.
And again, all of these businesses, all of these residents are impacted.
They have to show proof of residency if they are to come out after the curfew.
Again, highly discouraged because there are residents who are saying that they are being jostled.
They're being questioned and intimidated by law enforcement because they're out walking their dog and, you know, it's being suggested that they don't.
after 8 p.m.
People who are patrons at these restaurants, many of which have closed because they cannot pivot to different hours or it's just too much to maintain their workforce.
If they have not already furloughed their workforce or have closed completely, then they have adjusted their times and people have to show proof of receipts to law enforcement and be out before 8 p.m.
There's a lot of moving parts.
Yeah, all of it really translates could just It's really disruptive and it for people who are in this Zone people who can access it like I can right on the outside.
I'm less than a mile away This really does feel like an You know a really heavy-handed response.
Yes, that is unnecessary LAPD could have handled this on their own
Yeah, but do you think they're doing a good job?
It seems like you mentioned a few times that they're rather aggressive and I thought maybe Mayor Bass would have at least tempered the reaction that they have as opposed to being as aggressive as they have seemed to be at this point.
Yeah, you know, I definitely want to give accolades to LAP to me because many of them
are sympathizers they're right there from the community as well and they're not the ones who are are inflaming the situation in most
cases.
In most cases it's the law enforcement that's been placed in downtown LA to mitigate the you know crowds to provide this crowd control or to assist with ICE as they do these immigration raids.
LAPD has been
But they do what they always do.
They're just doing their jobs and they have a very difficult one.
I don't want to vilify
them in any
way.
They're just doing what's asked of them.
And Mayor Bass absolutely has spoken to what was initially a very heavy-handed response.
Excellent.
Tiffany, can you stay with us for a couple more minutes?
We have two other questions to ask you on this, OK?
I'd
love to.
All right.
We will continue talking with Tiffany Hobbs from KFI AM in Los Angeles about the situation out there.
We're going to talk to her about the National Guard troops and also the Marines and see if they've been involved in anything there as well over the weekend.
Coming back.
with more of John and Gordy in the morning in just a moment.
Right here on WMDX.
This is where the action is.
It's where it's at.
WMDX 92.7, John and Gordy
in the morning.
It's what's happening.
That's right.
We have rain showers this morning, thunderstorms on the way this afternoon.
This portion of John and Gordy in the morning brought to you by Madison HearingAidCenter.com.
They're at 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison, offering fast and flexible appointments, their family owned, community focused.

Their number one goal isn't just selling hearing aids, it's improving the quality of life through better hearing.
Check out their excellent website, MadisonHearingAidCenter.com.
You can take an initial hearing test right on their website, then set up an appointment with Jim or Sarah.
And again, MadisonHearingAidCenter.com, 4706 Cottage Grove Road in Madison.
Continuing our conversation here.
with Tiffany Hobbs from KFI AM in Los Angeles.
That's right.
I want to get to one thing.
You know, there are a lot of protesters out there, you know, just a few or 20, but some of these people are very confrontational.
You know, and they keep challenging the police or the National Guard or some of the, you know, the Marines that are wandering around in LA.
And I was just wondering, I have a cut here of one individual and then a protester trying to control this individual.
Let's cut 141.
Let's play that four.
Okay, here we go.
What we're
doing is working.
So all we
have to do is stay calm.
They want you to get out of body.
They want you to, they want a reaction.
Because what we're doing is working.
They want an excuse to get violent
because what we're doing
is
working.
So there you go.
This guy is trying to calm.
One of these people just challenging the police.
You know, shoot me.
Go on.
Shoot me.
I don't know why they react like that.
That is just ridiculous.
But then here is that same activist who's trying to control the crowd.
This is cut 140.
Let's play him.
This is just a very short 30 second
cut.
The National Guard has been sent back home.
The National Guard has been set back home.
What we're doing is working.
What we're doing is working.
The National Guard has been set back home.
You see this?
This is why the police are in front now.
They've also given the last warning.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Hold
on.
There you go.
So there are a few of those protest activists out there that are actually trying to control the crowd.
And I think sometimes, you know, I didn't think about it, but these individuals really do the hard work.
And that is they need a spokesperson in front of these crowds sometimes who can get their voice out there and give people direction in some way, shape, or form, because it is a little chaotic out in the streets.
You know, John and Gordy, there are many people like those or that gentleman you played who are there to do crowd control, who are there to offer directives and to keep people calm.
But of course, the media, of which I am also a part, but try not to, you know, imitate in this way, show what gets the most clicks, show what gets the most views.
And
peace.
is not profitable, unfortunately.
What is profitable, what does draw attention is the chaos.
And there are pockets of chaos, John and Gordy.
There's not an influx by any means.
And anyone living in this city will tell you, not only do they feel safe to go anywhere in this city, regardless of these protests and demonstrations, but
Again, the places in which there are these pockets of chaos are a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny portion of a much larger city.
The city is massive.
And there are people who have been out there for days or weeks now at this point.
And as these things go, as we've seen with riots in the past historically from Rodney King up until now,
As I mentioned in the first segment, the agitators use these opportunities to advance their own interests, and their interest is often to be chaotic.
That's not the whole by any means.
And a lot of people find it off-putting when they see these flash bombs and the tear gas, they see this, they think, oh, there's complete chaos and the cities are being burned down to the ground.
And you know, the cars, I forgot the name of the...
The way most now, you know, I heard that they cut they were burning those simply because they had 360 cameras in them.
So it's an easy way to surveil the crowd with those vehicles.
Have you heard something like
that?
Yeah, I haven't heard that.
That's not completely.
you know nonsensical they do these these cars which are everywhere in la started in san francisco and became a program here running about six months ago regularly i've written in one they're strange uh but uh you know they do have these 360 camera views and sure if you're trying to
obscure your identity.
You don't want to be surveilled.
There's cameras everywhere downtown, however.
So I wonder if that actually was the case or was just, again, a victim of this high emotion and of these agitators.
But I drove right past the Waymo's as they were burning.
Yeah, sure.
Waymo has suspended service in downtown LA.
Makes sense.
Businesses are closing.
Waymo's a business.
So that's not completely unheard
of.
Well, Tiffany, we have to leave it there, but we appreciate you reporting live from Los Angeles, from KFI.
Yeah, you really clarified, you know, at least our impressions of what's going on out there.
We appreciate that.
Can we stay
in touch with you
in the future?
Absolutely.
I'll be your LA correspondent.
You can call me anytime.
We would love that, yes.
Well, thank you so much for spending some time with us this morning, Tiffany.
Yeah.
Thank you.
And if anyone would like to listen to my program on Saturdays and you can hear me via the I heart radio app unless you're in LA as in which you can hear me live, but I heart radio app K F I AM 640 and my show is called Saturdays with Tiffany from five PM, which is a seven PM your time to nine PM your time.
I'd love to hear you.
Thank you, Tiffany.
We appreciate that.
We'll talk to you again soon.
Yep.
That's Tiffany Hobbs from KFI
in Los Angeles.
That's it for us.
Coming up tomorrow, we'll talk to Jesse Christensen.
He's from Cannabis, the Therapeutics.
