the

week.

Good evening, everyone, and welcome to Alumni Field in beautiful Houghton, Michigan.

Tonight, the Calumet Copper Kings are visiting from about 15 miles up north, coming here to take on the Houghton Gremlins in a week six MHSAA matchup.

Jake Kahn did welcome you back here to Alumni Field.

Two weeks ago, we came here to see the Houghton Gremlins take on the Ishmeng Westwood Patriots.

Gremlins fell in that match by a final score of 36 to 23.

currently sitting at one and four this season looking to keep their playoff hopes alive in a very competitive division five.

Meanwhile, the Calumet Copper Kings in the last two weeks have dropped their first and second games of the year to fantastic squads in Menomedy and Kingsford in that order, but still sitting at a three and two record.

A bit of an uncomfortable spot for the moment for the Copper Kings as they look to get back on the right foot and continue their push towards the Division 6 playoffs.

Looking forward to a close game for both teams here today.

These teams have actually already faced off this season in Week 1.

The Gremlins traveled up to Calumet and took on the Copper Kings at Agassi Field.

Calumet won that game by a score of 14-7.

But the Gremlins able to hang with a very solid Calumet roster in that match and we'll have to see if they can replicate that feat and possibly

go for an upset victory here against the Copper Kings today.

Coach's interviews coming up in just a moment here on our Houghton Building Supply pre-game show.

We're gonna have coach Josh Franti first, then coach Eli Loma for the Houghton Gremlins coming up right after that, and we'll head to those after some messages for our sponsors here on the Uper.

Pre-game show on WMPL, our first Superior Service Coaches interview with Calumet Copper Kings head coach Josh Franti.

Coach, thanks again for your time.

Yep, no problem.

Alright, so to start, last week we were here, we were able to watch the game.

It was a 19-37 loss against the Kingsford Flivers.

Were there any particular aspects of the game on either side of the ball that you think you need sharpening up for coming up into this week's game against Houghton?

Yeah, I mean, it was pretty clear, right?

We got to work on our pass coverage.

I thought our run defense played really, really well, told our quarterback to what we did.

It is a tall task, and I thought the guys up front did a good job.

And our guys on the back end did good, too, through the game, but just a couple of breakdowns here and there.

And we worked on it this week, and hopefully it's set to go.

And you mentioned the passing game in particular on the defensive side of the ball, but players like Trent Anderson, Sawyer,

All had double digit tackles last week.

They were very solid on that defensive line, like you mentioned, and in the linebacking position.

But what are some other players that you're hoping are able to step up and make a larger impact in the last few weeks of your regular season here?

You know, you're always looking to especially defensively.

It just says as a unit rate Those guys on the back end have been putting in a lot of work and doing a good job for us all year and ray a couple of breakdowns here There doesn't necessarily mean that they're they're the weak link But they've been working hard on it but guys like Andrew Eskwa or Andrew Gentula and Owen Peterson have been there all year and working hard and there's other guys That are rotating and like Brendan Locas and we got we got a good crew of guys back there that have been been working hard this week

and shifting back

over to the offensive side of the ball.

It was mostly Tyler Hallenin on the offensive side.

He had about 160 rushing yards, a touchdown on the ground, a passing touchdown as well, and no turnovers for him in last week's game.

So are you expecting to keep the offense largely running through Hallenin or trying to shift more back into the running back position against the Grand Ones this week?

Yeah, you know, it kind of depends on what they want to take away, right?

We got a bunch of good backs back there and you got to make a decision on who you want to try and shut down.

And if they want a key on the quarterback, that should open some lanes for some other guys.

But Tyler does a great job reading defenses and understanding our offense and what we want to do.

So I imagine he's a tough one to stop to.

He's a hardworking kid that understands the game and it showed.

Last Friday night, obviously we didn't get the win, but I thought he played really well back there, kind of controlling the offense.

And finally, you've already played the Houghton Gremlins this season.

You beat them 7-14 right here in Calumet.

But this week, you're heading back down to Houghton.

You're going to be playing at Alumni Field.

What are you expecting from Coach Loma as they've had a bit more time to get the rest of the team settled in in his first year as head coach?

Yeah, you can see their offense is

is explosive.

They like to throw the ball around and they got some good athletes that you got to shut down and I expect them to play hard, right?

It's a rivalry game and it's one of those games that the kids look forward to every year so we know they're going to be ready to go and it should be a great battle.

All right.

Copper Kings head coach Josh Franti.

Thank you so much for your time.

Good luck this week against the Gremlins.

Appreciate it.

Thank you.

Welcome back everybody pregame show continuing here on WMPL for our second superior service coaches interview I'm joined here by Houghton gremlins head coach Eli Loma coach.

Thank you so much for your time and my pleasure All right, so to start off last week you went up against Menominee you headed down to the maroon So the 45 to 16 loss for you guys Obviously, they're a fantastic roster and that was a really big test for your gremlins team So what did you see the out of your players that you liked in that game and what are you hoping you can?

try to improve going into this next matchup.

Well, yeah, you said, uh, they're a good team.

They would have a 15 or no, 19 or 20 game win streak, something like that.

So obviously they're, they're good.

Um, but the positives are it's positive and a negative.

We were in the red zone three times and we didn't come up with points.

If we can put the ball in the end zone, that changes that game.

quite a bit.

So we got to get the ball in the end zone is what that comes down to.

All right.

And just taking a look around the locker room.

Obviously, this is your first season as the head coach for the Gremlins.

You're coming off of a couple of rough seasons in recent memory trying to get back to your winning ways here.

Looking around the locker room, have there been any players that have impressed you either as players breaking out this season or that have stepped up in more of a leadership role that you're hoping can carry on through the rest of the season?

And if they're not a senior potentially in the future seasons after this?

Oh, yeah, there's been a couple of seniors that came out to play who didn't play last year in Michael Salina and Mason Joelle.

And the one thing that those two are great at is playing really hard.

And I've also seen some great leadership out of a group of juniors that is just really impressive.

So Dan Suh, Keaton Roberts, Chad Halonen, Everett Madison, like that's just to name four on the line.

Those guys have really stepped up.

Those guys are leaders, either vocal leaders or their leaders with action.

And the action is always they're going hard.

So I've been really impressed with all of those.

And this is a bit of a rare occurrence for you.

You're actually playing a team that you've already faced this season.

You've played against the Copper Kings week one up at Agassi Field.

You kept pretty close with Calumet in that one.

It was a seven to 14 final score.

Looking at this from with a few more weeks under your belt this season, obviously coach Franti in a similar situation.

What are you aware of that you need to do better to

keep close and win this game against the Copper Kings.

And if you're are you expecting any pivots from Coach Franti and changes of game plan that you need to be ready for?

Oh, I'm definitely expecting difference, pivot from them.

I'm sure that they're going to have something up their sleeve that we haven't prepared for.

And then we're going to have to call 10 out, say, hey, we got to regroup.

And when they do this, we got to do that.

Well, there's some things that

We are going to be able to do different too.

That first week, while I was happy with our offense, what we can do, we weren't able to put in, do it like I'd like to do it.

We're more dynamic now.

We can move the ball.

I mean, we moved the ball against Menominee.

It's just we weren't able to put it in.

I think we'll be able to move the ball a little bit with some of the different things we do.

But I think that they're going to be able to move the ball too.

They're going to come out different than they were that first week.

It's going to be quite a bit different.

I think the thing that won't be different from either team is the effort and that little bit of needle that both

sets of kids brought that game.

There was a lot of hitting and there will be a lot more on Friday.

Sounds like it should be a pretty exciting match.

Houghton Gremlins head coach Eli Loma.

Thank you so much for your time.

Good luck in this match up this

week.

Thank you.

Welcome back everybody.

Pre-game show continuing here on WNPL and it's time for our featured players of the game brought to you by Q&A Automotive starting first with the visiting Calumet Copper Kings.

This offense, we've come to know it pretty well over the past few weeks of the season.

They are a very rush-reliant team and a large bulk of that rushing yard, rushing yardage, excuse me, comes from their quarterback number 16 Tyler Halonen.

He recorded about 160 yards in last week's game, had a rushing touchdown to his name, a passing touchdown as well.

I believe it was Andrew Johnsella who made that catch against the Kingsford Flivers, part of the offensive push continuing for that Copper Kings team, but...

He is going to need to stand out and make a big impact today along with his partners in the backfield.

The players I want to highlight today are number 36 Trent Anderson and number 22 Sawyer Berg, who's slowly but surely been further introduced into the Copper King offense over the past few weeks.

He wasn't.

getting a ton of carries I don't believe he got any carries at all in the game we covered against the Gawney a few weeks ago but in the past couple weeks he's been appearing on the stat sheet getting a few carries for the Copper Kings so we'll see if Coach Franti wants to continue trying to implement him into the Copper Kings offense and if they have a fourth running back in that backfield ready to take some bolt carries and gain a bunch of yards for this team having another fresh pair of legs back there ready to help in what would then be a five player rushing attack would be a pretty dangerous

situation for anybody facing off against Calumet in the rest of the season.

Switching over to the Gremlins, the player I want to highlight here is number 14, the senior quarterback Brodie Donnelly.

Last week against Kingsford, we saw the Calumet pass defense was really the...

the unit on the team that gave up the most yards on the defensive side.

It's a big reason why the Kingsford Flivers got to that 37-point margin by the end of the game, despite them also being a pretty run-reliant team in most situations.

Their quarterback had a fantastic game last week.

I believe he had multiple passing touchdowns.

So, if the Copper Kings are not able to shore up their defensive backfield and try to prevent the Gremlins from airing out, which we did see the Gremlins do quite a bit a couple weeks ago against the Westwood Patriots,

Then all of a sudden the gremlins may be able to try to push themselves into this game that on paper doesn't seem like it should be a very competitive matchup But the gremlins are used to playing as the underdog and with a proper game plan They can absolutely keep themselves in this one on the defensive side of the ball Daniel saw and the rest of this defensive line is going to need to do everything in their power to slow down that copper king rushing attack We've seen some make some big impact plays over the past couple weeks.

We know the rest of the line has it in them

And we heard Coach Eli Loma talking about the leadership qualities that he's seeing build from a lot of the juniors on this line for the Houghton gremlins.

They played both offensive and defensive line most of the time here in Houghton.

So if those players can have a big impact today, they can slow down the rushing attack, especially if they can contain Tyler Halonen.

That gets rid of a lot of the options available to the Copper Kings on the offensive side of the ball.

View from the press box brought to you by Uncle's Restaurant in Hancock.

It's an absolutely beautiful one here as the fall colors reach...

either at or near their peak here at alumni field.

Most of the trees on the opposite side of the field from the press box have evolved into this beautiful pink-orange red mix with some pine trees in there giving some splashes of green as well.

It's a wonderful scene here for some high school football in early October and it ought to be frankly a beautiful game for the pretty nice crowd that's filling into the stands today despite the Michigan Tech Huskies having their home opener over at the McKinnis Student Ice Arena.

taking on the Minnesota Golden Gophers tonight.

Congrats to Dirk and thanks to him for keeping us all entertained over the past two and a half decades now as the voice of the Huskies Hockey team.

Additionally, we have our Game Day forecast brought to you by Bucco's party store.

53 degrees right now in Houghton feels like it's about 50, and we're expecting that it's going to get pretty significantly colder over the course of this game, maybe down to about 44 degrees by the time this one's wrapping up at, we would guess, around 9.30 p.m.

Also, for those who have not heard already, there is a freeze warning that will be in effect at about 10 o'clock tonight, and it will end

by by the looks of it at about 10 a.m.

tomorrow morning so those cold winter temperatures starting to creep in already make sure you have your windows closed heaters at your side just in case it's getting pretty cold for you tonight but we have about eight minutes left on our kickoff timer here we'll be back with the national anthem and kickoff coming up in just a moment here on the uber

Welcome back

everybody pregame show continuing here on WMPL The Houghton high school band has taken the field ready to greet the Gremlins as they approach from their locker room getting ready for this big week six matchup

facing off against the three and two Calumet Copper Kings, Calumet looking to continue their winning tradition over the past few years, looking to secure a playoff spot once again this year.

In a bit of murky water after back-to-back losses, but the quality of team they lost to in Menominee and Kingsford, the number one and number two teams in the UP, according to the most recent UPSSA rankings, is by no means a indication of the quality of this roster.

They are going to put up a big fight against the Hometown Gremlins tonight.

Gremlins are one and four.

There's technically still a route for them to qualify for the Division 5 playoffs, but at this point it would essentially require them to win out against teams like Calumet and the Galani Miners in a couple of weeks.

So a tall task ahead for the Gremlins to keep their postseason hopes alive.

But a very exciting match getting ready to get going here.

The Copper Kings have taken to their sidelines and we're expecting the Houghton gremlins to take the field here at any moment at alumni field in Houghton.

I also do have a post game result for you all.

Michigan Tech volleyball wrapped up their game earlier today on mix 93 sweeping the Lake Superior State Lakers by a final score of three to nothing.

and that will bring the Huskies volleyball record to eight and seven overall, four and three in the GLIAC conference that ties them for fourth overall in the conference with the Parkside Rangers.

Ferris State and Grand Valley State are undefeated while Saginaw Valley State is sitting at five and one.

So nice work there by the Huskies volleyball team, a big win for them at home.

They're playing it tomorrow night as well against the Purdue Northwest pride.

Pre-game show will be 11-15 right here on WMPL.

Additionally, I do want to mention that the Michigan Tech football team currently ranked number 20 in the AFCA division two coaches poll is going to be heading down to Chicago to take on the Roosevelt Lakers.

There are now three Lakers teams in the GLIAC in some of these sports.

So a pretty crazy matchup that you have to worry about might be seeing three different Lakers teams in sports like basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

But the Roosevelt Lakers.

Despite only coming up to Division 2, I believe three years ago, are currently 4-0, including a win against the FCS team, Chicago State, right there in town with them.

So the Lakers looking like they're shaping up and getting used to Division 2 scheduling quickly after finishing near the bottom of the rankings within the GLIAC in their first couple of years in the conference.

maybe a big game ahead for the Michigan Tech Huskies, their lone loss this season to the currently ranked number 10 Emporia State Hornets, who I don't really think were on anybody's radar pre-season, but they've come out, I believe they beat a ranked team in all three of their first weeks.

So the Huskies, that looked like a tough loss on paper if you were just looking at pre-season rankings, but...

It turns out that Hornets team down in Kansas is quite good.

So keep them on your radar.

Additionally, in about 12 minutes time here, the Michigan Tech hockey team is going to be dropping the puck at the Mac for their home opener and season opener against the Minnesota Golden Govers.

So if you want to hear Dirk Hembroff call that game over on mix 93, you can do that in the next few minutes here.

But the Gremlins ban still getting ready.

I don't believe the team has quite left the locker room yet.

Maybe running a little bit behind schedule here, but taking a look at the rankings for both teams right now.

I mentioned it earlier, but I can pull it up real quick to make sure that we have accurate results for where these teams are standing in the midst of their divisions.

Currently, the Calumet Copper Kings, with their 3-2 record, averaging 33.4 playoff points, are ranked tied for 15th in Division 5 in the MHSAA standing.

Remember, the top 32 teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.

So the Copper Kings have some room to work there, as now the Hoping Drums will take the field.

excited and we should have our national anthem in pre-game here beginning any moment.

repositioning to midfield to begin the national anthem.

That'll be starting in just a moment here.

And a very big matchup for both of these teams, Copper Kings.

If they're able to win out, would finish with a seven and two overall record, that would allow them a likely home playoff game in the division six postseason.

Gremlins essentially need to win out to qualify for a postseason spot.

So quite a bit riding on this game for both of these teams.

and again we saw them match up in week one the gremlins kept it to seven points 14 to 7 the final score there and the big key in this game for the gremlins can they slow down the copper kings rushing attack that will be the big thing to keep your eye on on offense we've seen them

Show a good bit of variety in their play calling.

We've seen Michael Salima get quite a few carries for them.

Brodie Donnelly's run out of back field a few times.

But I think more than any other local team that we've seen here on MIX 93 or on the

U-Burk.

The Gremlins seem like they're quite a bit more willing to air out the ball.

So we'll see if that continues

in these next few

games.

Ladies and gentlemen, we recognize that the putting of the good game was made possible by those who have fought and continue to fight for the freedom we enjoy.

Let us now honor and respect their efforts and our country, as with the Hope High School Merchant Band, under the direction of Miss Kelly Fontaine, by Lisa Fowling, our national anthem.

The colors this evening are presented by the Hilton High School Junior ROTC Color Guard.

Upon the conclusion of the anthem, please remain standing until the colors have left the field.

that the color guard begins to leave the field and the two teams here at alumni field have nothing to do but stare each other down getting ready for a close game between two teams who both need a win big time here in these next few weeks during an earlier break

The coin toss took place at midfield.

The Calumet Copper Kings won the toss and elected to defer, so the Gremlins will start by receiving the opening kickoff.

Meanwhile, the Houghton Gremlins selected the choice to play from west to east here at Alumni Field.

Looks like they'll be trying to avoid a sunset probably expected in around the second quarter being in the eyes of the offense.

With that, the Color Guard leaves the field.

The fans applaud.

12 minutes are on the clock.

Apologies for the audio issues there, folks.

12

minutes on the clock.

First quarter coming up next.

And the kickoff will be here in just a moment on 107-3, The Uper.

And

number 14, Brodie Donnelly, the quarterback of this roster.

We'll have to see how much he gets to air it out today against this Copper Kings defense.

We know how well the front seven's been playing.

Able will contain the Kingsford Flitters run game for the most part last week.

One of the best rushing attacks in all of UP football.

And it's gonna be Brodie Donnelly with four receivers out wide.

Michael Salina, the running back behind him.

Donnelly in the shotgun.

Takes the snap, hands it off to Selena who go up the middle and be brought down for a gain of about a yard.

Only three players on the defensive line for the Copper Kings in that defensive formation regardless.

Able to quickly tackle the running back as he gets back to the line of scrimmage.

Second down and nine coming up.

Ball at the Houghton 46.

Coach Eli Loma picked up his first career win as head coach a few weeks ago against Lance.

54 to 6, the final score in that one.

Same formation, Donnelly takes the snap and he will hand it off to Selena again.

Selena has a bit more room to the outside this time.

He'll gain about six, third down and short coming up and he crosses into Calumet territory.

It'll be third down and three looking to get to the 45 for a fresh

set of downs.

First quarter in today's game brought to you by Ryla kitchens and cabinetry And gremlins have an early test here third and three ball on the copper king 48 Oh 54 to 8 the final score miss read my notes folks apologies Against the lots game for hoping a few weeks ago.

Donnelly shotgun takes a snap

Hands it off once again.

Selena cuts to his left again and breaks three.

He'll get the first down and a bit more.

He'll be forced out of bounds around the Copper King 40 yard line.

Nice pick up there for the Houghton Gremlins.

Three running plays start the game.

Oh, there's a hold behind the line of scrimmage and it's going against the Gremlins.

It'll be third down backing that play up 10 yards.

Fans in the stands hadn't noticed it either.

It's going to be third in about 13 yards.

And now we get to see a likely passing situation here for Brodie Donnelly.

Penalties in today's game brought to you by Kiwanaw Automotive.

Don't be penalized for bad service.

See Kiwanaw Automotive celebrating their 40th year of service.

Third down three receivers out to Donnelly's right Donnelly in the shotgun takes the snap and All that ball is stopped in the backfield that may have been punched out waiting for a ruling from the officials Calumet sideline signaling it's their ball and they do recover the fumble The ball got punched out by a Copper King defensive lineman Believe it's number 62 Liam DeVobe in with the punch out

And a turnover early here for the Copper Kings.

They'll start well within Houghton territory after that holding call on third down.

And the Gremlins don't even get the chance to punt.

Copper Kings start at the Gremlin 39.

I believe it was a Donnelly keeper after faking a handoff to Selena and he got the ball punched out by one of the defensive line.

Tyler Hallinan now in shotgun.

He's got number 36 Trent Anderson lined up behind him.

Hallinan takes the snap.

Hands off Trent, Trent with the head of steam.

Oh!

Howlin' and pulled it back at the last moment, and he was brought down in the backfield for a loss of a couple yards.

Nice heads-up play there by the defensive

line.

Got number 62, Abbott Alcock with the tackle for loss there.

Second down at 12.

Three receivers out wide, now Anderson still in the backfield, Tyler Hallinan in shotgun.

Takes the snap, rolling to his left, pitches it out, it's Keith Coyvisto in the backfield who cuts up field, and he'll be brought down after gaining about four yards past the original first down marker, but third and long still coming up for the Copper Kings.

Nice work there by the Gremlin defense.

Read the pitch play well, Keith Coyvisto tapping in for Trent Anderson on that second down play.

And it's gonna be third down and nine coming up ball at the Kremlin 38 yard line trying to get to the 29 Snap breaks for the Copper Kings Keith Boivisto remains in it running back Receivers lined up close to the line on the right hand side Halon and shotgun takes the snap rolls out to his right and he'll keep it be brought down the backfield

Chad Hallinan with a big tackle for loss and two tackles for loss in the backfield for the Copper Kings Fourth and long coming up And I would expect the Copper Kings are going to elect to punt here

Special teams unit

looks like they're coming on for Calumet And it will be Tyler Hallinan number 16, I'm expecting to punt here for the Copper Kings

Both teams trading three and outs to open this game.

Gremlins a holding call stopped them after Selena broke free would have had a first down.

It's number three, Sam Roth in the backfield to return the punt.

Allen takes the snap, kicked his off cleanly and that ball is going to bounce back towards the end zone and the Gremlins will let it roll back and it will be a touchback to begin their second drive of the game.

Gremlin's

defense was put in a tough spot and that situation had to start on their own 39 yard line.

And they weren't able to successfully stifle the Copper King rushing attack.

Nice work there by the line.

Again, Chad Howlin' it with a big tackle for loss on that third down.

And the second drive begins now for the Houghton Gremlin's Brodie Donnelly and Shotgun.

Three receivers out wide.

Selena behind him in the backfield.

Takes a screen pass and Brodie Donnelly is going to keep this ball right off the middle.

He'll gain a few yards before being brought down in a pile of players in the defensive line.

Trent Anderson involved in the tackle.

And it will be second down and six coming up.

Ball now at the Gremlin 24.

Gremlins assessing what they need to do next neither team has picked up a first down trading three and outs to open this game Well, not quite a three and out for the Gremlins.

It was a fumble actually in the backfield Donnelly in the shotgun takes the snap and hands it off to Selena who's immediately met behind the defensive line and brought down number 62 for the Copper Kings Liam Duboby and once again making an impact there Looks like Selena

Just barely got back to short of the line of scrimmage Third down and six and a half coming up for the gremlins Bottle breaks Brody Donnelly three receipt for receivers out wide Selena in the backfield Donnelly rolls back looking right looking to pass

Brody Donnelly being forced to a sideline, airs it up, and that ball is deflected in complete.

Keith Coyvisto with a big pass break up.

Fans calling for a pass interference flag.

They're not going to get it.

Fourth down coming up for the Gremlins and backed up far into their own territory, likely going to have to punt here.

It'll be fourth down and seven.

Ball in between the 23 and 24 yard line for the Gremlins.

And it looks like they will elect to punt.

It's number 29 for the Copper Kings.

That's Tanner Hendrickson back to return.

Snap is good.

Kick is off cleanly.

It's Emery de Rocher with the punt.

And that ball will bounce it about the Copper King 45 and take a friendly bounce for the Gremlins.

That ball's still rolling back.

And the Copper King goes back to recover it and quickly tackled at the 22 yard line.

So a net punt of, what is that, about 56 yards for the Houghton Gremlins there after a very friendly bounce.

Nice work by the Special Teams unit.

And the Copper Kings will retake the field with 5.53 to go in this first quarter.

Still scoreless here at Alumni Field.

Tyler Hallen.

A receiver out on each side.

One of his running backs behind him.

Takes the snap, hands it off, up the middle and brought down for a tackle for loss once again.

Trent Anderson met in the backfield and brought down by number 68 for the Gremlins, Mason Joyle.

And so far, both teams defensive lines making big impact plays.

Multiple tackles for loss on both sides.

And the Gremlins at least for the moment seem to have the answer to the Copper Kings rushing attack.

Second down at 11 coming up, ball to Gremlins, or ball to Copper King, 39 yard line.

Allen it.

takes the snap, and he'll keep himself and be brought down in the backfield by number 74, Everett Madison.

Multiple players getting involved for the Gremlins, all of them making an impact.

And this defensive line looks untouchable right now.

Third down and 14 coming up.

Back-to-back tackles for loss on 1st and 2nd down and the Copper Kings are going to call timeout.

Timeouts brought to you by Harder's Party Store.

We're going to take a quick 30-second break.

We'll be right back to see what the Copper Kings do with 3rd down here on the uber.

Welcome

back everybody.

4 minutes 40 to go in this first quarter.

Still scoreless.

And so far, the Copper Kings and Gremlins have been able to stifle each other's rushing attacks.

Both teams defensive lines already recording multiple tackles for loss.

Brodie Donnelly fumbled on the first drive of the game for the Gremlins.

Set the Copper Kings up in great field position.

But the Gremlin defense showed up and forced the three and out.

Gremlins go three and out once again, and now a third down and 14 coming up for the Copper Kings on their second try.

Four receivers out for Tyler Halonen.

Halonen takes the snap, steps back, rolling right, looking to throw.

Tyler Halonen, pressure comes.

Halonen tries to escape pocket, he's dropped down!

A third straight tackle for loss.

78 and 74, that's Bryson Nettle and Everett Madison combining for the sack on Halonen.

Fourth at a mile coming up for the Copper Kings, they're gonna have to punt.

What a day for defensive football here at Alumni Field.

Halonen back to punt, takes the snap, kick is off cleanly and Sam Roth was gonna

Let this one bounce near the boundary marker and the gremlins will start their drive right at their own 40 yard line.

Neither team has recorded a first down yet in this game.

Over eight minutes in.

We are still scoreless.

And that Calumet front seven living up to their hype.

Gremlins doing everything they've had to so far and more to slow down the Copper Kings offense And it's gonna be four receivers out wide two on each side Brody Donnelly in the shotgun Selena to his right Donnelly takes the snap hands it off to Michael Selena he'll be met at the defensive line again and stopped after a gain of two Second down and eight coming

up

Ball

at the Gremlin 42 325 to go in the first quarter.

The Copper Kings have negative total yards.

Gremlins are probably pretty close.

The defense is showing up for both teams in a massive way.

Two receivers to Donnelly's right in the shotgun.

Donnelly takes the snap.

He's gonna run out to his left and he'll be met and brought down near the line of scrimmage once again.

Number 29 for the Copper Kings, that's Tanner Hendrickson.

And

Donnelly will be stopped at the line of scrimmage third down and eight coming up.

What a start for the Houghton Gremlins on defense.

Copperkins doing their part trying to stop the offense.

We'll see how long this scoreless tie holds.

Three receivers out.

Donnelly shotgun takes the snap and he's gonna hand it off to Selena.

Selena breaks the tackle, cuts up field.

Michael Selena will have enough for the first down.

Michael Selena crosses midfield.

Oh, is there a flag on the other side of the field?

No, it doesn't look like it play is good Selena crosses midfield and moves the chains for the first time for either team today Ten minutes

into the game

Four receivers out wide once again

Donnelly shotgun Selena lined up to his right Donnelly takes the snap fakes the handoff to Selena cuts up the middle and he'll gain about four yards Sawyer Bergen in on the tackle for the Copper King second down and eight coming up And still

The defense continues holding strong.

We haven't seen a pass attempt from the Gremlins yet in this game.

Tyler Hallen had a pass play on third down but wasn't able to get the ball off.

He was sacked in the backfield.

Donnelly shotgun takes the snap.

Flag on the play early.

Donnelly rolls out to his right.

He'll be out of bounds around the line of scrimmage.

Let's see what this penalty is.

It was right as the ball was snapped, so I would expect either a full start or off sides.

It was on that far opposite side of the field, so I can't tell you for sure which team committed the penalty.

And I believe it's going to be off sides on the offense.

Or sorry, full start on the offense, and that will back the Gremlins up five yards, second down and 13 coming up.

Donnelly in shock and once again, three receivers now lined up to his right.

Selena, a couple yards further behind in the backfield.

Donnelly takes the snap, pitches it out.

That's Sam Roth who gets to the outside and he'll gain a few yards, get back to around the original first down marker with third and long on the horizon for the Gremlins with 40 seconds to go in this first quarter.

And it will be third and nine.

He didn't get out of bounds, the clock is stopped.

And this week the week one matchup between these two teams 14 to 7 was the final score Quite a bit lower scoring than we've seen otherwise this season And now we can begin to understand why Third at long Donnelly shotgun Take the snap rolls out to his right looking to throw Donnelly over the middle of the field that ball is high and incomplete

Intended target was number 13, Isaac Neva.

And it will be fourth and nine just barely inside Copper King territory.

Gremlins will likely punt in this situation.

35 seconds to go in the first quarter.

And the punting unit does take the field.

I believe it's number 11, Emory DeRosher.

Out there a shea out there to punt for the gremlins And it's number 29 Hendrickson in the backfield to return the punt for the copper King's kick is off cleanly It's a good kick once again Hendrickson's gonna let it bounce and that ball is gonna be piled out of the round the 15 yard line Gremlins bounced on that like they saw a copper King touch the ball waiting for an official ruling from the officials Black ball and it is copper King ball

Sam Roth saw an opportunity to jump on that ball.

One of the nearby return team players for Calumet had a brush up against him, but Hendrickson able to dive on the ball and prevent catastrophe.

Calumet retains possession with 25 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Ball is at the Calumet 15.

Another very good punt.

Halliman, in shotgun, Keith Coyvisto lined up behind him, three receivers out wide.

Halliman, takes the snap, rolls out to his left, keeps it himself.

Tyler Halliman cuts back a field.

Tyler Halliman breaks free.

Out to the 30, the 40, and he's loose.

Tyler Halliman, last man finally brings him down after crossing midfield.

Alex Abert able to save the touchdown run.

It would have been an 85-yard touchdown.

for Ty Halonen.

And the first true explosive play of the game for either team comes from the Copper Kings.

It'll be a game of 42 yards.

15 seconds left on the clock and it's taking down.

That will take us to the end of the first quarter.

We are still scoreless here in Houghton.

Copper Kings just had their first big play of the game though.

We'll see if they can continue with this momentum after this break and a message from our sponsors here on the uber.

Let's see what they can do with this newfound momentum.

Halonen, shotgun.

Anderson behind him in the backfield, takes the snap, hands it off to Trent Anderson, who will be tackled after gaining about five yards.

Just full head of steam there for Anderson just kept running straightforward at full speed as long as he could Finally a gremlin defensive lineman able to get their legs or hands around his legs and bring him down second down at five coming up Now at the gremlin 39

Extra point coming up.

It's going to be number 12.

That's Oscar Locas in to kick the PAT.

Kick is up, and it is good.

They get 7-0 Calumet.

First score of the game, Calumet Copper Kings.

It's Keith Coy-Visco from 39 yards out.

We'll see how the Gremlins respond after these messages on the uber.

The third drive of the game for the Copper Kings.

Halonen gets ready to kick it off.

And it's a squid kick to the left hand side.

Brodie Donnelly recovers, he spins around to the defender and he'll be brought down.

Gremlins.

Able to start moving a bit more on offense.

We haven't seen much in the passing game from them yet.

Only one attempt for Brodie Donnelly.

Now when the shotgun steps back looking to pass, Donnelly rolls out to his left.

Donnelly cuts up field and a flag on the play behind the cornerback.

Donnelly, he's forced out of bounds near the first down marker.

But this is likely a hold on the gremlins.

I think this one's coming back.

And it will be.

just that the nine yard rush it raced and it will be first in 20 instead for the gremlins at their own 30 yard line copper king's bench a little bit more lively now after that touchdown play tyler howlin and broke off a 42 yard run just before it so those two plays combining for 81 yards

Donnelly in shotgun, three receivers to his right, they're running back Michael Salina behind him.

Donnelly takes the snap, bubble screen out to his left, and that's number seven for the Gremlins, Alex Abert, who will make the catch and be forced out of bounds after gaining about five yards.

Second down and 14 coming up, made it up to the 36 yard line.

Gremlins looking to get back to midfield for a first down.

Nice skating there on the screen pass to the weaker side Hey, they're able to get up field cleanly there for a gain of a few yards trying to get a third and manageable here Donnelly shotgun takes the snap And he's gonna pull it back and keep it himself cuts up field he'll gain a yard or two before being brought down Number 56 for the Copper Kings Dylan Hurkis in on the tackle third and long coming up for Houghton

It'll officially be a third down and 13 again of a single yard.

Ball in between the 37 and 38 yard line.

Again, Gremlins need to get to midfield.

10 minutes 20 left in the first half.

Copper Kings lead 7-0.

Brody Donnelly in shotgun three receivers out to his right Selena behind him in the in the backfield Donnelly steps back looking to throw airs it out deep looking for a bear and that ball is dropped Alex a bear had his man beat No hands in on the play But a bear couldn't slow down in time and get his hands on the ball fourth down of 13 coming up for the gremlins

Ball was slightly under thrown by Donnelly.

Abair had to slow down, but his stoppage, when he noticed where the ball was coming in, actually shook the defensive back off of him for a moment.

It's gonna be number 13, Isaac Neva on the punt.

I believe it's Coy Visto in the backfield for the return.

Another solid kick for the Gremlins.

That ball's gonna land around the Copper King 35 and take another friendly bounce for the Gremlins and stop at just about the 30 yard line.

Copper Kings will start once again decently far back in their own territory with 9.51 to go in this second

quarter.

First and 10 for Calumet ball is spotted right at the 30-yard line.

Ty Hallinan in shotgun Trent Anderson lined up behind them a receiver out to each side.

Hallinan takes the snap he'll take the handoff to Anderson and he'll cut up to the left himself and Tyler Hallinan is gonna gain about seven yards before being brought down by one of the Gremlin linebackers.

Number

56 for the Gremlins.

Or excuse me, 58 price and nettle in on the tackle.

And it

will be listed

as a gain of nine yards.

So, Hallen stretching out at the bottom of that pile.

Ball at the Houghton 39 yard line.

Anderson gonna be in the backfield once again for Ty Hallen and Keith Coyfisto also lined up near

The tackle box.

Allen takes the snap looking to throw once again.

It's out to Coy Vesto who makes the catch, cuts around to the defender, and he's brought down but not before getting the first down.

Number nine, Terry Nolan in on the play assisting on the tackle.

First and 10 coming up for the Copper Kings at their own 42 yard line.

See

what coach Franti has cooking up now.

They've seen some momentum out of his offense.

Halinon in the shotgun.

Keith Coifisto lined up behind it.

Halinon.

takes the snap, runs out to his left, Koyvisto follows, looking for the pitch.

Hallinan

will keep it himself,

cuts up field once again, and Ty Hallinan shakes off multiple tackles, Juki around another, and he'll finally be brought down after a gain of about 17.

Able to easily get past midfield, and it will be spotted at the Gremlin 39 yard line.

Another big gain for Tyler Hallinan.

And the timeout called by the Gremlins.

8 minutes 21 to go on this second quarter.

We'll be back in 30 seconds to see what the Calper Kings do to continue this drive on the U-Pur.

Got a third quarter here, hoping Gremlins try to slow down the Calumet Copper Kings.

Currently, Calumet in front, 7-0.

The first couple drives.

Nothing on offense for either team.

A fumble on third and long for the Gremlins start of this game.

Copper Kings went three and out.

Gremlins went three and out.

Copper Kings went three and out.

And then finally a touchdown.

by the Copper Kings on their third drive of the game.

Tyler Howlin and then Shotgun.

Takes the snap himself.

He's going to run to his right.

Cuts back up the middle.

Tyler Howlin invades the tackle.

Howlin and finally brought down.

And he'll gain about eight yards on that play.

Tackled by number 20, Kailol and Keddo.

A couple weeks ago, he had that electric.

Kick return touchdown against the Westwood Patriots.

I believe that tied the game up at 14 each when he did make that incredible kick return.

He probably ran 170 yards on that return with the zigzag he did around the field.

I think I said it reminded me of Dante Hall when I watched it.

Halonen in the backfield Trent Anderson behind it.

Boy, there's no motions behind the line.

Allen will take the snap and hands off to Anderson.

Trent Anderson breaks up the middle using that speed to get inside the 20-yard line.

And for the first time, this game in offense is inside the opposing team's red zone.

Red zones in today's game brought to you by Gino's Restaurant in Hancock.

And it'll all be spotted at the Gremlin 19-yard line.

A nice game there for Trent Anderson.

He's had a lot of speed out of the backfield.

Just quickly getting up to full speed as soon as he takes the ball.

Just trying to punch through the defensive line before anybody can get a hand on him and there it finally works.

About seven minutes to go in the second quarter.

Copper Kings looking to take a two-square lead.

Howlin' and shotgun Keith Coyvisto behind him.

Takes the snap rolls out to his left.

Coyvisto follows for the pitch and he will pitch out to Coyvisto.

Coyvisto gets around to the fender and he'll be brought down after getting a first down now inside the 10.

for the Copper Kings.

We'll see the spot here may have been tackled just before getting the first down actually.

I thought he'd gotten to about the 7 yard line but looks like he stepped out of bounds and around somewhere in between the 9 and 10 second down in inches coming

up.

Second down at the gremlin ten yard line allen and shotgun Takes the snap hands it off the Trent Anderson Anderson will get up the middle and he will clearly have the first down Stopped around the five yard line first and goal coming up for the copper King's The copper King offense has found its rhythm

These runs that were getting stifled in the backfield on their first couple possessions All now breaking off for a few yards just chipping away at the gremlin defense This is just what Calumet does folks Every once in a while they'll break one loose on you Halin it shotgun takes the snap and he'll hand it off

to Trent Anderson, Anderson up the middle, and he'll be just barely held out of the end zone.

Second down and goal at the one coming up.

When Trent Anderson gets going and has that full head of steam, taking multiple defenders to slow him down and keep him out of the end zone.

Five minutes, 20 to go in the first half.

Copper King's knocking on the

door.

Fans getting loud in the student section here at Alumni Field.

Hallinan, shotgun, Anderson behind him.

Oh, ball is over Hallinan's head.

Tyler Hallinan rolls back, we'll get a pass.

Emergency pass, it's caught for a touchdown.

It's number 20 for the Copper Kings, Andrew Juntala.

On the emergency pass from Tyler Hallinan.

And disaster turns into a miracle for the Calumet Copper Kings, 13-nothing Calumet.

P.A.T.

Pende from Oscar Locusts.

P.A.T.

Oscar Locusts out there.

Kick is up and it is good.

14-0 Calumet Copper Kings.

Gremlins have five minutes to respond.

We'll see what they can do.

Coming up next here on the U-Pur.

Crafty worked there by Tyler Howlinen.

Snap was about a foot over his head on that second down and goal.

The two yard line had to run about ten yards behind where he was originally set up just to pick up the ball that went over his head.

And after all the commotion, a bunch of Gremlin defenders closing in on him, Howlinen aired it out to a wide open Andrew Juntala in the end zone.

making 14-nothing Copper Kings.

Swim kick bounces off a Gremlin defender and that's going to be clearly recovered by the Copper Kings.

And it's number 16, Tyler Halinan.

The ball bounced off a Houghton Gremlin on the front line of the hands team.

Bounced behind the kickoff lineup.

for Calumet.

And the kicker, Halonen, who had just sent the onside, able to waltz right over and pick it up.

Copper Kings will get a free possession off of that play.

And with 4.52 to go, Calumet all of a sudden firmly in the driver's seat.

Halonen, shotgun.

Boy, this go behind him.

Tyler Howanen takes the snap and he'll keep it himself this time cutting up the field Tyler Howanen breaks free gets around the defender Tyler Howanen sending himself down the end zone one man to beat can he get there?

He's forced out of bounds at the five yard line and a late hit gonna be called here as Howanen is down on the running track around alumni field Pushed out of bounds by Kail all and Kato Another defender in the vicinity hit him after he was out of bounds

And Halonen, able to stay on his feet, not just face plant on the sideline there, eventually rolling over on the sideline, looks like he's okay.

But two Gremlin defenders in the area, both thinking they're the last man who can make a play on

it.

And the second, I'm not entirely sure who it was.

Got there just a second or so late.

Halonen was already clearly out of bounds, this penalty's gonna go against the Gremlins.

and half the distance to the goal will make it first in goal with about two and a half yards to go.

Four minutes thirty-nine left in the second quarter.

An onside kick recovery and a massive run by Tyler Hallonen.

Will make the Copper Kings hunt for a three possession lead.

Hallonen, shotgun, play this behind him.

Allen takes the snap rolls out to his right.

He's going to keep it himself once again and he'll be brought down by a crew of Gremlin defensive linemen and linebackers.

Number 58 for the Gremlins.

Bryson Nettle once again involved in the play.

We'll see the official spot here and there's a player down on the field for the Gremlins.

Not entirely sure who it is.

The Gremlins defensive unit out there.

Checking in on their teammate.

Still not entirely sure who the player is.

We're hoping he's okay.

Gremlin coaching staff and one of the athletic trainers out there And the rest of the Gremlin defense is now out of the sidelines giving the training staff some space here

I believe it's the athletic trainer Maria Normand out there, assisting the injured Gremlin.

And the player's going to get up now.

And it looks like it's something on his right leg.

I believe it's number 68, Mason Schoil.

The Copper Kings will retake the field.

And

it is number 68, Joel.

We're gonna hope he's okay.

We'll try to update you on his condition, but being helped off the field, there'll be second and goal for the Copper Kings at the one yard line.

Halonen, under center, three running backs behind

it.

Halonen takes the snap, hands it off to Keith Coyvisto.

Coyvisto to the left, to the outside.

Can he get to the end zone?

Yes, he can.

Touchdown, Copper Kings.

One of three running backs in on the play was Coyvisto Anderson and Sawyer Berg.

Coyvisto gets the carry and make it 20-0 Calumet.

Extra point coming Oscar Locas had a big game as a running back Against the gawney a few weeks ago.

We haven't seen him much on offense since but still out there kicking extra points for the copper kinks kick is up and it is With so it's good.

I thought it was wide left from my initial perspective, but it seems he's okay And there's a flag on the play.

I believe a gremlin was just shoved to the ground after the play

Number 74 Everett Madison got up later than the rest of the pack and I think that's gonna be a personal foul being called against the Copper Kings if I had to guess.

And it's a penalty against the offense.

I'm not entirely sure what the signal was.

They may have been on sportsman-like conduct, but a 15-yard penalty.

Which I believe will be assessed on the kickoff against the Copper Kings As the Gremlins try to get on the board on offense for the first time this game Again the Copper Kings won the coin toss and chose to defer so they will get the Possession to begin the second half And now with the three possession lead the Gremlins need to scramble for some points before the first half of play is wrapped up 402 to go

21 to nothing Copperkins.

It'll be Tyler Hallen and kicking it off.

Number three, Sam Roth in the backfield getting ready for the return.

And this kickoff from the 25 yard line following the unsportsmanlike conduct

penalty.

Skip kick once again further back behind the gremlins this time It's actually gonna get all the way back to Roth at the 25 yard line Sam Roth cutting around a defender shakes off one trying to shake off a second But has hands around his ways till he brought down at the gremlin 32 yard line Three minutes 55 to go in this second quarter Gremlins need to find something on offense only a single first down for them so far in this game

Looking for score updates from the Huskies hockey home opener.

I'm not seeing

anything yet.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with the live

stats platform or if the game remains scoreless over at the Mac.

Brodie Donnelly shot gun.

Michael Selina behind him.

Three receivers to his right.

Donnelly takes the snap.

Stepping back looking to pass.

Rolls out to his left.

He's going to keep it.

Brodie Donnelly cuts up field.

He'll get out of bounds after gaining about nine yards.

Nice heads up decision there by Brody didn't see anybody open downfield elected to take the free yards here Probably not gonna have time for two possessions on offense regardless, so If you're able to run downfield pick up a few you still have two timeouts left if you're the Kremlin's Coach Loma, I'm sure would be happy to take as much time off the clock as possible To avoid the Copper Kings getting a chance to end the first half with an offensive drive and begin the second half of one as well

Four receivers out two on each side Donnelly and Selena in the backfield Donnelly takes the snap rolls out to his left around one of the offensive linemen that ball is caught and brought in Tiptoe catch for number nine of the gremlins.

That's Kerry Nolan and That will move the chains for the gremlins now in Copper King territory Balls gonna be spotted around the Calumet 45

And it will be first and 10 at the Calumet 46 yard mark.

Three minutes 42 to go.

Clock is stopped after the completion and the

player getting out of bounds.

Passing game starting to come the life now for the Houghton Gremlins.

Three receivers to Donnelly's right.

Selena still in the backfield.

Brodie Donnelly, shotgun.

Takes the snap.

Snap is low.

Screen out.

Two.

Nolan once again, he'll gain about three or four yards before being brought down, tackled in bounds this time.

Clock continues to run about 3.30 to go, second down and eight at the Copper King 34 yard

line.

Brody Donnelly in the shotgun same formation for receiver set Selena in the back view Donnelly takes the snap hands it off to Selena who was met and brought down near the line of scrimmage Number 22 for the Copper Kings that Sawyer Berg in on the tackle 72 Joe

Hallen and also involved

and it will be third down

No gain on that run, so third down and a long seven coming up.

240

to go in the first half.

Donnelly, shotgun.

Takes the snap, hands it off to Sam Ross, who rounded... Oh, Donnelly faked the handoff, pulled it back, and he'll be brought down here the first down marker, but hasn't quite made it.

Looks like Donnelly fell on his back there, but he appears to be all right for the moment.

Injury updates in today's

game brought to you by Sarah's and dental number 68, Mason Joyle, still on

the sidelines

talking with the training staff.

He's not standing with the rest of the team on the sideline at the moment.

They're still assessing him to make sure he's okay, but he's currently standing up.

And seems to be talking without too much issue too.

The staff for the Houghton Gremlins, so we're going to hope that he's okay.

Three up, we got five seconds.

Donnelly, shotgun for receiver sec.

Fourth down and two.

And a timeout called by the Houghton Gremlins.

One timeout left for them.

A minute 34 to go.

Gremlins trail 21-nothing.

We'll be back to see if they can get the ball into the end zone here on 107-3 of the Uper.

Go Huskies!

Welcome back everybody Calumet Copper Kings here at alumni field in Houghton Currently leading 21-0 over the Gremlins Houghton with the ball a minute 34 to go in the first half trying to find pay dirt for the first time this game As the Copper Kings will be receiving the second half kickoff Brody Donnelly Getting to air the ball out a little bit more on this drive than he had previously

And so far the Gremlins have been moving pretty successfully downfield but now a test on fourth and two at the Copper King 38.

Huddle breaks.

Line gets set.

A tighter formation now.

Donnelly and shotgun Michael Salina behind him.

Donnelly takes the snap and he hands it off to Salina who has the first down.

Wait for the official

spot to see exactly

where the drive will continue for the gremlins.

And it will be right at the 35 yard line.

A minute 31 to go.

Clock is ticking.

Gremlins trail by three scores need a touchdown.

One time out left for Koji Lailoma.

Four receiver set once again Donnelly shotgun takes a snap Keeper faked the handoff to Selena Brody Donnelly will be brought down near the boundary marker at about the 27 yard line So another nice gain on the ground the clock continues to tick 55 seconds and counting as Donnelly was tackled in bounds Gremlins need to hurry up

45

seconds to go one time out they need to hurry

40 seconds left to go here.

Three receivers out to Donnelly's right now.

Donnelly in the shot yard.

Takes the snap, steps back looking to pass.

Rolls out to his right.

Donnelly,

playing it

right, throws it over the middle of the field.

The ball's caught wide open and brought down at about the six yard line.

Gremlins need to spike the ball.

It was number seven.

That's Alex A. Bear who made the catch.

24 seconds left.

The ball will get set.

Gremlins need to get to the line of scrimmage and spike the ball.

Donnelly under center and a flag on the play before Donnelly can snap it Let's see what the call is here and it's a false start against the gremlins that'll back them up five yards It is first and goal at the seven yard line now backed up to the 12 21 seconds to go in the first half Still a timeout left for coach Loma

And the Gremlins team.

Copper Kings have two, no chance they're gonna use them.

First and goal, Houghton Gremlins in the red zone for the first time this game.

And the Gremlins gonna use their final time out now.

Instead of keeping it in their pocket.

With 21 seconds to go If that tells you anything folks, I think they're taking three end zone shots here and maybe we'll see a field goal attempt It would be from about 27 28 yards as the ball currently sits No timeouts remaining for the Gremlins trailing by 21

First and goal of the 12.

Student section on their feet.

Fans are still packed in here at Alumni Field.

A healthy crowd, especially considering the Huskies home opener occurring at the back just a few blocks down the road.

Red one's offense heads back out.

Copper King's defense

already in position.

Right here, right here,

right here.

Three receivers lined up to Brody Donnelly's right, Michael Salinas still in the backfield.

Donnelly, shotgun, motion across.

Steps back looking to pass, Brody Donnelly, rolling out of the pocket escapes to his right, throws it under little field bubbles, caught, and a receiver tackled and brought down out of bounds.

That's number three, Sam Roth.

Oh, excuse me, number seven, Alex Abair.

Abel complete the pass.

Clock is stopped at 14 seconds.

Second down and goal coming up, a game of 10 on that play.

Gremlins knocking on the door.

If you run the ball, you have no time out.

It's going to be the last play of the half, more than likely.

I would expect a pass looking for the end zone.

And they're showing just that.

Four receivers out, two to each side.

Donnelly shotgun takes the step.

Quarterback keeper out the middle, and he's brought down.

He does not have the touchdown and the clock is going to continue to run.

Gremlins scramble back to the line.

Third and goal coming up.

Can they get the ball off?

Donnelly, one second.

Takes the snap.

Play is off.

Donnelly, end zone.

The ball is caught.

A miracle for the Gremlins to end the first half.

Brodie Donnelly getting the snap off one second to go.

And a touchdown for the Gremlins.

It's number seven, Alex Abert, his helmet came off during the tackle, but he kept his hand on the ball.

Oh, there's a flag behind the play, and it's... Oh, no.

There was a holding call against the offense.

It's gonna back them up 10 yards.

The band had already been playing.

Nobody in the stands.

Myself in the press box included.

Didn't notice the flag on the play.

And there will be no untimed down.

The

first half ends.

Gremlins kept out of the end zone.

Going into the half.

Copper Kings lead 21-0.

Welcome back everybody, halftime show here on WMPL brought to you by A1 toilets Calumet Copper Kings here at alumni field in Houghton leading the hometown Gremlins by a score of 21 to nothing.

We take a look at what's happened over the course of this game.

First drive of the game on third down among Brodie Donnelly fumbled in the backfield for the Gremlins giving the Copper Kings possession in fantastic field position where they promptly

went pre and out

being stifled by the Gremlins defensive line.

After that three and out, sent it back to the Gremlins, they went three and out, sent it back to the Copper

Kings, they went three and

out again, sent it back to the Gremlins, went three and out, and then finally, a 42-yard run by Tyler Hallenin, sets up the Copper Kings in great field position, and Keith Coipisto is credited with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Hallenin on a quick little curl route from about five yards down the field, able to cut up field, shake a couple defenders to make it seven to nothing Calumet.

Gretlins able to pick up a first down, but not able to get very far down from the next drive.

Wind up giving it back to

the

Copper

Kings, a

breakaway run by Hallon and sets them up on the goal line,

where after a high

snap

over the head of Tyler Hallon and he

finds Andrew Juntala in the end zone wide open for a two yard passing touchdown to make it 14 to nothing.

Immediately after that on the kickoff, Tyler Howlinen, on an onside kick, hit a ball off of a Houghton Gremlin return team player's leg.

It bounced perfectly off the Gremlin defender, all the way back behind the Copper King line.

So Howlinen was able to just run over and recover the ball for Calumet, giving them possession on what wound up being an onside kick.

I don't even know if it was intentionally an onside attempt.

He's been quick kicking for the past few weeks, and that's the routine we've come to expect from the Copper Kings, but given that bounce...

The Copper Kings easily able to pounce on it for a quick change of possession.

And after all of that, another breakaway run by Halinin, another solid, a big run by Trent Anderson for about 20 yards, winds up getting the Copper Kings.

down to another goal to go situation, and on second and goal, Keith Coivisto punched in for the Copper Kings on a one yard touchdown run.

Andrew Locas, sorry, Oscar Locas is three for three on PAT so far this game, so the Copper Kings leave 21 to nothing over the Houghton Gremlins.

Gremlins on that last drive made it all the way down field, but Koji Lyloma used his last time out.

After a penalty back, the gremlins had to scramble to get the ball off of the single second left on the clock.

The snap was off, and Alex Avercourt, the pass in the end zone, but a holding call, brought the play back.

The clock was at zero, and there was no untimed down.

So the Gremlins, despite a touchdown pass, we all fought here, alumni feel, to end the first half, go into the locker room, scoreless.

So, currently the score, 21-0, the Copper Kings.

They're also doing a receive the second half kickoff, so a tall pass ahead.

Before the gremlins get back into this game, we're going to take a quick break and then be back with this week in high school football and Pepsi trivia in just a moment here on 107.3 of the year.

Folding a fitted sheet, programming the thermostat, matching your socks.

Why are simple things sometimes so complicated?

Thankfully, with an auto owner's insurance independent agent, getting the right coverage for your home doesn't have to be one of them.

So you can get back to more important things like finding that missing sock.

That's simple human sense.

Do you have questions?

Ask the CHOP-Calio agency in Lake Linden if auto owners make sense for you.

Welcome back everybody.

It's time for this week in high school football brought to you by CHOP-Calio Insurance and we'll start as always with the Westpac.

This week we have Manit Sneak picking up a forfeit win.

Their scheduled match was against the West Iron County Wycons, who elected to end their season as of last week, so Manistique will improve to 3-3 by default.

Manistique coming off an 8-25 loss to Iron Mountain.

Meanwhile, Iron Mountain is going to be playing a home game against Gwyn this week.

Gwyn is coming off a 14-53 loss against Lotz.

Lotz is going to be heading on the road.

They're currently 3-2, and they're going to be facing off against 4-1 Barker for Harris in their homecoming game.

down in Harris, Michigan.

Barker for Harris lost the game against Paloma Westphalia 14-59 last week, a team visiting from all the way down in the Lansing area.

So a long commute for that team, but able to come up here and play an impressive game to remain undefeated, defeating what was at the time, 4-0 Barker for Harris.

Menominee is 5-0.

They're going to be taking on Gladstone, who's 1-4 in Gladstone.

Gladstone coming off a 0-20 loss to Ishmeng Westwood.

Nice win there for the Patriots.

Well, Menominee is coming off a 45-16 victory against the Houghton Gremlins that we're seeing here tonight to remain 5-0.

And I believe extend their winning streak to about 20 games.

Nagani is 3-2.

They're heading to Ishmeng to face off against the Westwood Patriots.

Nagani coming off a 40-0 win against the Hancock Bulldogs.

So a nice bounce back game there for the Miners.

Now back up to 3-2.

And the Hancock Bulldogs have a tough game ahead of them once again.

They're going to be playing the Kingsford Flivers at home at Conded Field.

Kingsford, of course, coming off with a 37-19 win that we saw last week on Mix 93 against the Calumet Copper Kings.

Taking a look at the 8 versus 8 divisions now.

In the Great Lakes 8 West, we have 4-1 Norway taking on 4-1 Crystal Falls Forest Park.

Norway coming off of a 40 to 16 win against Antonagin, bouncing back from their low loss of the year so far to the Lake Lindenhubble lakes two weeks ago, while Crystal Falls Forest Park won a 59 to 52 shootout against Felch North Dickinson last week to improve to a 4-1 record.

Antonagin is going to be heading to Ishmeng.

Antonagin currently 1-4 while the Hematites are 4-1.

They have not lost a game since that opening week loss to the lakes.

Municing.

Er, sorry.

Ishmeng won 46-0 against Bessemer last week.

That was their first win.

Oh, excuse me, I got lost in my, uh, score sheet here.

Antonagin lost the end of the way last week while Ishmeng won 46-0 against Bessemer.

Then, Munising, who's won in four, is gonna be heading to Bessemer, who's also won in four at the moment.

Munising coming off their first win of the season, beating Ironwood by a final score of 50-32.

And then Powers North Central is at 4-1 after losing to the Lakes last week, and they'll be taking on that 1-4 Ironwood squad.

Of course, the Jets lost to Lake Lindenhubble by a score of 27-44.

Again, the Lake Lindenhubble Lakes, who remain undefeated at 5-0, and they'll be heading to Rapid River to take on the Rockets who are currently 3-2.

Rapid River coming off of a 4-fit win against Mid-Rock Peninsula in last week's matchups.

So, the Lakes currently the consensus number one 8 on 8 team in UP 8 on 8 football according to the UPSSA.

Meanwhile, in the 11 on 11 rankings, Menominee is the consensus number one with Kingsford ranked as the number two team.

The Calumet Copper Kings, despite losses to those teams in the past couple of weeks, remain that number three so the UPSSA voters remain confident in this Copper King lineup and so far tonight we've seen exactly what.

Zooming out and taking a look at college, we have Michigan Tech Huskies football, who's currently 3-1, heading down to Chicago to take on the 4-0 Roosevelt Lakers at Morris Field.

The pre-game show will be at 12.30.

Kickoff is at 1 o'clock on Mixed 93.

Joshi Latelo will be calling the game for the Gremlins in that matchup.

Gonna make sure we have our volume here, low enough for the ambient mic that you can hear as the band is crowding up pretty close near the press box now.

I mentioned it briefly in the pre-game show.

The Roosevelt Lakers have been putting on quite the show this season 4-0 after finishing near the bottom of the Gliac standings in their first couple of seasons of Division 2.

So a tough game ahead for the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Huskies hockey is playing their home opener tonight against the Minnesota Golden Gophers that game was delayed by an hour So puck drop is going to be at 8 or was supposed to be at 8 o'clock We'll see if we can get any score updates in the near future.

Hopefully that game's going off now without a hitch and Michigan Tech volleyball played a game earlier today They swept the Lake Superior State Lakers by a score of 3-0 and they have a game tomorrow home versus the Purdue Northwest Pride Free game will begin at 1115 on WMPL

We're going to take a quick break and be back with Pepsi Trivia to end our halftime show in just a moment here on 1073 at the Uber.

You hear that?

That's the sound of Pepsi Zero Sugar, the better tasting, more refreshing Zero Sugar Cola.

Pepsi Zero Sugar.

Let your taste decide.

Welcome back everybody, halftime show continuing here on 107-3 The Hooper and it's time for Pepsi Trivia brought to you by Pepsi Cola of Houghton.

Our question tonight focuses on the matchup between the Copper Kings and the Gremlins last season.

In that game, the Copper Kings defeated the Houghton Gremlins by a score of 46-0 at Agassi Field.

And the question tonight revolves around quarterback Tyler Halonen.

The question, how many total touchdowns did Halonen record in that game?

So we're counting passing and rushing touchdowns for Halonen.

If you think you know the number of touchdowns he recorded in that matchup last season, go ahead and call into our WMPL Studio line at 906-483-1330.

That's 906-483-1330.

If you know the answer and you call it into us, we'll announce your name on air if you're the first person with the correct answer and you can pick up a 12 pack of Pepsi at our WMPL Studios in Hancock.

The Calumet Copper Kings have retaken the field and they're stretching out to begin the second half.

They're getting ready to receive the opening kickoff in just a moment.

We'll be back with second half coverage in just 30 seconds here on WMPL.

Go Huskies!

Welcome back everybody high school football game of the week here on WMPL and our third quarter of action is brought to you by Saiyans auto sales and Zebar Houghton gremlins are going to be kicking the ball off the Calumet Copper Kings Calumet now leading 21 to nothing after a scoreless first quarter So back to back to back touchdowns for the Copper Kings on three straight drives including one off of an onside kick Copper Kings have a lot of things going right Houghton

A tough break at the end of the first half, got the snap off with one second on the clock.

Brody Donnelly found Alex Abert in the end zone, but a holding penalty brought it back out.

And the clock had hit zero, so an untimed down did not count.

And the half ended for the Gremlins scoreless.

Defense is gonna have to show up like they did in that first quarter now to get the offense back into this game.

Gremlins are now on the sidelines getting set up.

while the Copper Kings continue stretching out at midfield.

And a tough situation now for both of these squads.

A couple extra minutes have been added to the kickoff clock here at Alumni Field.

Gremlins just got out of the locker room recently, running some sprints on the sidelines, getting warmed up for the second half.

So as they do that, we're going to take one last 30-second break and we'll be back with the third quarter starting in just a moment here on 107-3 of the U-Pur.

Hey,

this is Clayton from Sayin's Auto and I have some exciting news for the Copper Country.

Sayin's Auto Z-Bart, your preventative maintenance protection center.

Everybody third quarter will hopefully be starting soon now Somebody with a horn down on the track near the students section The gremlins all on their feet wearing pink tonight, I believe it's a breast cancer awareness event And the copper kings still out on the field stretching out using that extra time To make sure they are ready for the final 24 minutes of regulation

And they are loving that horn down in the student section.

45 seconds left in our countdown timer.

The coaching staff for the Gremlins trying to height the players up.

They're saying, hey, we're not out of this one.

We just saw them put up 21 in the quarter.

We've got two.

We could slow them down.

We've already seen, we've already done it.

We'll see if the gremlins can heed that message and turn it into some positive play here in this second half Most the Copper Kings head to the sideline return team staying out on the field getting one last quick talk from head coach Josh Franti as they get ready to begin this one again Again the gremlins are going to be starting

By kicking the ball away to open the second half ball be placed at the 40 yard line for that kickoff Return team heads out for the Copper Kings Trying to spot who the returner will be it looks like it's gonna be Number 20

Number 29, Tanner Hendrickson back there as the kick returner.

Kickoff ready.

And the kickoff is sent by the Gremlins second half underway.

It's a squib kick into the Copper King hands team.

Sawyer Berg able to recover.

Berg trying to evade defenders.

He'll be brought down to about the 32 yard line.

Copper Kings will start their first drive of the second half there.

Calumet touchdowns on their last three drives.

After being stymied by the Gremlin defense for the entirety of the first quarter.

And the ball will be placed precisely at the 33.

11.55 on the clock in this third quarter.

And it's going to be Tyler Howlinen in the shotgun.

Keith Coyvisto lined up behind him.

A receiver out to each side.

Halonen takes the snap, rolls out to his left, and he's going to be met in the backfield, and he forces himself back to the line to scrimmage, maybe a yard or two past it before finally being brought down.

One of the Gremlin defenders was there and able to stop him from completing his designed pitch run.

Keith Coyvisto was following him out to the left side of the field, but that play blown up in the backfield.

Halonen forced to settle for a gain of what looks like about three yards.

Second down at seven coming up.

at the Copper King 36 yard line.

Tyler Howlinen relaying the play to the rest of the Copper Kings on offense.

Gremlins already in their defensive set.

And it will remain Keith Coythisto in the backfield for now.

Has two touchdowns to his name, one on the ground, one through the air so far in this one.

and a timeout called by Coach Franti on the Copper King's sideline.

We're going to take a quick break and see what the Copper Kings do on 2nd and 8th after these messages here on WMPL.

Configuring the Bluetooth.

Deciding who controls the music.

Remembering where you parked.

Why are simple things sometimes so complicated?

Thankfully, with an auto owner's insurance independent agent, getting the right coverage for your vehicle doesn't have to be one of them.

So you can get back to more important things.

Like remembering if you're on the third or fourth level of the parking garage.

That's simple human

sense.

Welcome back, everybody.

Before we continue play here, we're going to say that Tundra Lodge and Resort and Green Bay, just blocks from Lambeau Field, is now running their autumn adventure special, featuring 20% off your stay Thursday through Sunday, excluding Packers home weekends until the end of October.

The indoor water park operates Thursday through Sunday, and water park walk-in passes are available.

10.58 to go in the third quarter.

Copper Kings facing down a second down an eight.

Ball at the 36 yard line.

Tyler Howlinen in the shotgun.

A receiver out to each side.

Howlinen takes the snap.

He's going to hand it off to Trent Anderson who will be stopped near the line of scrimmage.

And a third and long coming up here for the Copper Kings.

Another Gremlin defender slow to get up.

Holding his knee.

And we're looking to see who this is.

The players holding his left knee.

And the training staff will head back out.

A rough night for the Gremlins in more way than one so far.

There's someone in street clothes on the sidelines of the gremlins now I'm not entirely sure if that is Mason Joil who was hurt about halfway through the second quarter They are on crutches and now another player down on the field for the hometown Houghton team And this time it's number 58 That's Bryson nettle

who is going to be helped off by the training staff once again.

The Copper Kings offense will now retake the field, third down, and seven yards coming up.

A tough night for injuries.

For the Houghton Gremlins Two different players going down Number 58 nettle and number 68 Mason Joel We're gonna hope they're both okay.

I Don't see number 68 Joel on the field or on the sidelines, so I believe that is him In street clothes on the sideline looks like he'll be out for the rest of the game

Hallinan shotgun on third down and six takes the snap rolls out to his right He's gonna pitch it off the Keith Coyvisto Coyvisto cuts the sideline.

He'll get up feel but not enough for the first down before being pushed out of bounds Fourth and short coming up here for the Copper Kings Gremlins need this stop And nettles sitting next to Joel now on the sidelines

Seems to be talkative with them.

They're both sitting on the bench for the gremlins Again we hope they're both okay Fourth down and three coming up at the 40-yard line Halonen in shotgun has a running back behind him two receivers out to his left Halonen takes the snap stepping back looking to pass stays in the pocket pass complete to Keith Coivisto out wide who is brought down but

after picking up enough yardage for the first down.

Gain of about five, enough to clear the fourth and three, and the Copper Kings will move the chains.

Coyvisto has been lining up in the slot quite a bit.

Four Calumet.

He had that little curl route earlier in the game.

The ball was only about five, caught about five yards past the line, but Coyvisto made a couple defenders miss, turned it into a touchdown.

There was a 39 yard passing touchdown when it was said and done.

Halonen, shotgun, takes the snap, gonna hand it off to Trent Anderson who was lined up to his right and he'll be brought down after a gain of about four.

Near midfield now, ball be spotted somewhere between the 48 and 49 yard line and it's gonna be a second down at six coming up.

Copper Kings lead 21 to nothing.

Looking to bounce back after losing back-to-back games against the top two ranked teams in the UP and Menominee in Kingsford.

Halonen in the shotgun.

Takes the snap steps back looking to his right to pass.

Halonen, a flag on the play near the tackle box and the pass is in complete downfield.

Believe the intended target was Sawyer Berg.

And we'll wait to see what this penalty is.

It's going to be a hold going against the offense that'll back up the Copper Kings 10 yards, second at about 15 coming up.

Howlin' him was already well out of the tackle box by then.

A hold on the offensive line when the flag went up.

I can't imagine it would have made much of an impact on that play.

So a needless 10 yard penalty there.

And second down and long coming up for Calumet.

Gremlins need a stop.

Howlin' it in shotgun.

Trent Anderson lined up behind him.

Howlin' it.

Takes the snap, hands it off the Trent.

Trent with a head of steam will gain about six yards and get back to near the original first down marker, third and about 10 coming up.

Again, the acceleration out of the backfield for Trent Anderson so far has been more than noticeable.

It's the reason he's gaining all these yards on these running plays.

So far, he's largely just been charging right at the middle, but with that burst of speed, the second he gets his hand on the ball, just bolting up the middle, getting past the defensive line.

He's used it to his advantage a few times now.

Third down, an 11.

A ball at the Copper King, 43-yard line looking to get to the Gremlin, 46.

Howlin' it.

Cuivisto motions to the back field, a hand off to Trent Anderson once again, and he's stopped at the line of scrimmage.

Number 62 for the Gremlins Abbott Alcock in on the tackle there.

A gain of about two yards.

Fourth and nine coming up.

Copper Kings will likely punt.

Nice work by the Gremlin defense.

Gave up a first down to start this drive.

But after a holding call, set the Copper Kings back.

They do what they need to do on second down and third down and third down.

And for the moment, the Copper Kings are showing they're going to go for this.

Fourth and nine, ball at their own 45.

Howlin' it, shotgun.

Motion from left to right across the line.

Takes the snap.

Howlin' and rolls back to his right looking to throw.

Howlin' and looking deep, a rocket down field, and that ball is... Incomplete!

Gremlin ball!

Oh, was that ball intercepted?

Oh, it was.

And I believe it's number three Sam Roth who got the pick.

Wait, what?

It will be first and 10 gremlins that are at the 21 yard line.

Roth on that fourth down.

intercepts the ball about 50 yards downfield.

If he had just battled the ball away, Gremlins would be starting in Copper King territory, but they do have the ball.

Brody Donnelly, shotgun takes the snap, hands it off to Michael Salina.

Or Noah Paul back and keeping himself.

Brody Donnelly gets out of the pocket and he'll escape and gain about 10 yards on this play.

We'll see if it's enough to move the chains.

It will be gain of about 10 and a half for Brody Donnelly.

Nice job on the run there.

Gremlins defense holds strong.

A pass break up probably would have been more beneficial than the interception in that situation on fourth and long.

But Gremlins happy to get the ball back and now they're trekking back downfield.

Donnelly, shotgun takes the snap and he'll keep it himself once again and met near the line.

Looks like he'll gain about three yards before being brought down.

Seven minutes 30 to go.

in this third quarter.

Second down and seven.

Ball is right at the Gremlin 35 yard line.

Brodie Donnelly in shotgun once again.

Motion across the field, Donnelly keeps it.

He's met and brought down near the line of scrimmage.

Faked an end-around handoff and he will keep it himself, run up the middle, met quickly by the Copper King defensive line, getting wise to his antics.

Third down and seven coming up.

Looks like he got about half a yard by the line judge's spot.

Third and long coming up for the Gremlin.

Seven yards to go.

Looking to get to the Gremlin 42 yard line to reset the down counter.

Four receivers out wide for Brody Donnelly, Selena in the backfield.

Donnelly takes the snap, screens out to his right, that's Sam Roth.

Roth has room, cuts a field.

Sam Roth breaks a tackle.

Sam goes down the field.

20, 15, 10, finally brought down at about the seven yard line.

A huge game for Sam Roth on the screenplay on third and long.

And I'll tell you one thing, the fan in the stands that has that horn is absolutely loving that play.

First in goal coming up for the Gremlins.

Update for you from the McKinnis Student Ice Arena, the hockey game has been cancelled.

The provisional plan is to start at 4.07 p.m.

tomorrow with another game on Sunday.

Donnelly first and goal takes the snap hands it off and that's a fullback.

I didn't catch the number Who will gain a few yards second and goal about the five yard line coming up Apparently ice conditions where the cause

So Huskies hockey delayed one more day I'm sure both teams will be ready to go tomorrow though Second and goal ball the five-yard line Donnelly shotgun Michael Selena behind him four receivers out wide Donnelly takes the snap keeps it himself cuts the middle and he'll gain about a yard before being brought down third and goal coming up Five minutes to go in the third quarter

Copper Kings lead 21-0, but Houghton knocking on the door, looking for their first points in this game.

Able to stop the Copper Kings on the first drive of the second half.

Copper Kings won the coin toss earlier and deferred as they started with the ball.

Gremlins did a good job making a defensive stand, but now the offense needs to come to work.

Third and goal.

Donnelly and shotgun.

Takes the snap steps back will get a pass Brody Donnelly escapes the pocket airs it out to the end zone and that ball is over the head of Sam Roth incomplete fourth and goal coming up Again trailing by 21 you're right on the goal line balls at the four I would expect coach Loma is going to choose to go for it here

But a field goal gets some points on the board and trust in your offense in the fourth quarter may be on the table as well.

Donnelly heads out to the huddle and relays the play to the offense.

I think they're gonna stay out there.

Copper King spread defense across the line.

It's gonna be four receivers once again on fourth and goal.

Michael Salina lines up next to Brodie Donnelly.

Donnelly, shotgun takes the snap, takes the handoff.

Donnelly, center end zone, and that ball's caught.

Touchdown, Houghton Gremlins.

And it's number three, Sam Rahm.

He's been a big factor in the receiving game so far for the Gremlins.

And he continues just that on a crucial touchdown play.

Four minutes 21 to go in the third quarter PAT pending It's number one For the grip.

Oh, sorry.

No, it's Sam Roth for the PAT kick is up and it is good make it seven nothing Houghton Gremlins on the board trailing by two touchdowns copper Kings due to receive the ball back We'll be back to see what they do with it in 30 seconds here on 107 three the uber

Welcome

back everybody Sam Roth with a four yard touchdown completion on fourth and goal to keep the Houghton Gremlins alive in this game.

They're trailing the Calumet Copper Kings by a score of seven to 21.

It's gonna be number three Sam Roth who just caught that touchdown pass.

Pass, excuse me, getting ready to send the ball back to the Copper Kings returners.

Keith Coyvisto one of the two in the backfield for the Copper Kings And it's a skip kick here from Roth that'll bounce to around the 20 yard line Keith Coyvisto will pick it up Coyvisto up the middle of the field and he's evading a tackle gets brought down Finally at about the 28 yard line Copper Kings Had scored on back to back to back drives after being stymied in the first quarter

And now they need to get back on the scoreboard trying to keep Houghton away from this game.

16 minutes and about 15 seconds left in regulation.

4-13 to go in the third quarter.

Tyler Howlinen takes the snap on the quarterback keeper cuts up field.

Tyler Howlinen breaks free.

Tyler Howlinen finally brought down after getting across midfield.

One of the Gremlin defensive backs in on the tackle.

It actually may have been number 74, Everett Madison, who brought him down.

The lineman showing off his speed to catch up to Howlinen on that play.

First in 10, ball is at the Gremlin 47 yard line after that run.

The gain of about 25 for Tyler Howlinen on the first play this drive for the Copper Kings.

Three receivers out to Howlinen's right.

A running back in the backfield behind him takes the snap, rolls out, quarterback keeper once again cuts up field and he'll be brought down this time after a gain of about seven.

Copper Kings rolling once again in their rushing attack.

Howlinen comes back from his sideline, relays the play to the rest of the Calumet Copper Kings.

Now in shotgun, Trent Anderson lined up behind.

Howlinen takes the snap, keeps it himself once again, now cutting up to his left.

He'll have the first down and a bit more after being brought down.

Believe number 62 Abbott Alcock will be credited with the tackle on that play.

A first and 10 now, sitting at the Gremlin 36 yard line, Copper Kings once again rolling.

Keith Coy-Visto now the running back behind Tyler Halonen.

a receiver wide out to each side.

Hallinan takes the snap, another quarterback keeper cuts up the middle now fades out to the left as a holding call coming that'll bring this play back ten yards.

Hallinan gains about 15 but I would expect this to be reversed in short order.

Two minutes 28 to go in this third quarter and it will be a hold against the Copper Kings make it first in 20.

Gonna get backed up to their the 46 yard line of the Houghton gremlins Again after this first quarter after how the first quarter went you would not expect the copper Kings to get touchdowns on three straight drives Both teams recording multiple tackles for loss

The Gremlins recorded tackles for loss or sacks on all three plays of a Copper King drive earlier.

They punted with, I believe, a fourth and 20.

But now, Howlin' and Shotgun takes the snap.

Another quarterback keeper cuts out to his right.

Tyler Howlin' and will get back to the original first down marker and get more.

Cuts up field.

Tyler Howlin' and still on his feet, evading tacklers and finally brought down at around the Gremlin 20 yard line.

A gain of 26 on the play.

And the Gremlins just cannot seem to tackle Tyler Howlinen at the moment.

Cutting outside, back in, cutting up field.

Finding open space wherever he goes, shaking tacklers off.

And now under two minutes to go in the third quarter, Copper Kings at the 21 yard line, nearly back in the Gremlin Red Zone.

Howlinen in the shotgun.

Koyvisto behind it.

Halonen takes the snap.

He's gonna keep it himself once again.

Tyler Halonen breaks up field, shakes another tackle.

Tyler Halonen finally brought down at the 11-yard line, a game of nine.

Second down and short coming up.

I think that's five straight quarterback runs for the Calumet Copper Kings.

If they find something that works, they're going to stick with it until it doesn't.

Second down and about half a yard.

Keith Coyvisto lined up behind Tyler Halonen.

Trent Anderson lined up on the right hand side of the line and the ball is bobbled by Trent Anderson on an end around and he will fall on it in the backfield.

Maybe no gain.

We'll see if it's a loss of a yard or two, but definitely did not have the first down He is backed up about a yard and a half So third and two coming up ball on the gremlin 13 yard line looking to get to the 11 for a first down

Gremlin's students section getting loud trying to cheer their team on.

They need to find something to keep the Copper Kings out of the end zone here, third and two.

Donnelly takes the snap, hands it off to Keith Coyvisto.

Coyvisto has room up the middle.

He'll get a first down, first at goal coming up around the six yard line.

And the Copper Kings, just when you think they're out of it.

They're able to charge up field and now a Copper King is down on the field holding his leg.

He'll get up after a moment.

I believe that is 25 Coivisto.

And he'll walk back to the line.

The sideline, excuse me.

Looks like he's gonna take a rest for a few plays.

Make sure he's okay.

He is walking of his own accord.

I believe it's probably just a cramp.

And a timeout called...

I believe by the Copper Kings.

Oh, excuse me.

The end of the third quarter is upon us.

Calumet Copper Kings lead 21-7 over the Houghton Gremlins.

Copper Kings gonna have a first in goal coming up to start the fourth quarter when we return here on 107.3 to Uber.

Welcome

back everybody.

Fourth quarter of today's game brought to you by Dave's BP Super Service.

12 minutes left in regulation.

Copper Kings lead 21-7 with the ball in the Houghton Gremlin Red Zone.

Tyler Hallen and lined up in shotgun.

Number 36 Trent Anderson, the running back behind him, a receiver out wide on each side.

Halonen takes the snap, hands it off to Anderson.

Trent Anderson cuts up the middle and he will burst through the Gremlin defensive line for a touchdown.

Anderson from five yards out makes it 27-nothing Copper Kings.

PAT coming up, we'd expect Oscar Locust to kick this one through.

And it will be Oscar Locas out there kicking the extra point.

Snap is good, hold is good, and the kick is low.

PAT no good, the score remains 27-7.

Apologies folks trying to keep up with what's turning into a rather busy night involving local athletic events.

For those of you who have not heard, the Michigan Tech Huskies home opener canceled.

Apparently it's an issue to do with the ice at the McKinney Student Ice Arena.

The current plan is to start the game at 4.07 p.m.

tomorrow.

We're not entirely sure if that's going to change or not.

The schedule for various Michigan Tech Huskies events that I announced earlier today definitely in question due to these changes.

We'll keep you updated as best we can if we have any official word.

But the Houghton Gremlins due to get the ball back trailing by 20 with most of the fourth quarter on the clock and this offense is going to need to come out hot to keep the Gremlins in this game.

Houghton Gremlins are currently one and four on the season.

Their lone win in week three against Lantz, 54-8 the final score.

Kick off coming.

It's gonna be Tyler Allen and a squib kick once again hits another Gremlin lineman and the Copper Kings might have this ball back again and they do another Ball that bounces off a Gremlin return player And it was Sam Roth I I believe Excuse me number two Thomas Ned Zwicky

Howlin' and just kicks that ball full force on a squib kick attempt.

And now twice in this game, it's hit one of the players on the gremlin front line.

They can't get their hands around it in time.

And the Copper Kings are going to get another free possession.

And now, leading by three scores, Copper Kings will likely keep it on the ground as long as they can.

She was much clocked as they are able.

Hallenden in the shotgun takes the snap hands it off to Sawyer Berg getting one of his first carries the game Sawyer Berg breaks free cutting to his right side and Sam Roth gets his hands on him finally bringing him down at the 26 yard line a Nice breakaway run there for Sawyer Berg Again, we've seen him come into the rushing game a bit more these past few weeks Looks like he's stepping up now with a pretty comfortable lead for the Copper Kings

And on his first carry of the game, he gets a nice game.

For now, the Copper Kings will keep riding with him and running back.

A game of about 25 on that run.

Hallon and Shotgun hands it off to Berg.

Berg runs up the middle, cuts through another defender, he'll gain about six.

And a late flag on this play, let's see what this is.

But if the ball position holds, it'll be a second down and three at the Gremlin 19 yard line.

And no hand signal for the penalty, but it is against the offense, it'll back them up.

And waiting to see exactly where the spot is.

And it's gonna be a first down in 25 by the looks of it, so a personal foul being assessed on that play.

Backed all the way up to the Copper King 41.

Not entirely sure what penalty was assessed there.

There's no bike on the head referee.

So we're not able to get the exact call or the player that it was assessed on, but a big penalty makes it first down in 25 for the Copper Kings.

Howlinen in shotgun, Sawyer Berg in the backfield.

Howlinen takes the snap, pulls it back from Berg, keeps it himself.

Tyler Howlinen stumbles over his own two feet, stays on his feet though, and he'll gain about nine yards on the run to his right on the outside.

Second down and long coming up.

Copper King's just looking to ice this game away, 10 minutes 40 and ticking, left in regulation, leading 27-7 over the hometown Houghton Gremlins.

Halonen, Berg in the backfield.

Takes the snap, hands it off the Berg.

Sawyer Berg will go right up the middle.

He'll gain about four.

It'll be third and about 12 yards now coming up for the Copper Kings.

Another impressive game for Tyler Halonen.

Well over 100 yards rushing.

No rushing touchdowns for him yet, but two passing touchdowns.

One of them a fantastic play after a high snap flew over his head He had to run back about ten yards to pick it up found Andrew Junschela wide open in the end zone That was the second touchdown of the day for Calumet But now third and 11 coming up Halonen Koyvisto behind him takes the snap pitches it out to Keith Koyvisto Koyvisto has room cuts up field and he is stopped and brought down and I believe

It's Thomas Netswicky with a big time tackle there for the Gremlins fourth and about eight for the Copper Kings now Balls of the 24 yard line for Calumet no use in punting here It'd be quite the test for Oscar Locas for a long field goal So I would expect the Copper Kings are gonna choose to go for it And they will do just that

Keith Corvisto lined up as they're running back behind Tyler Halonen in shotgun a receiver out to each side Halonen Pauses a snap count and a timeout called by the Calumet Copper Kings before the snap can go 846 to go in the fourth quarter Calumet leads 27 to 7 over Houghton will be back in 30 seconds to see what happens on 4th and 8 here on 107 3 the uber

Welcome back everybody.

The Gremlins student section on their feet, hoping for a big fourth down stop here from the Gremlin defense.

Calumet Copper Kings have a fourth and eight coming up on the Gremlin 24 yard line.

They currently lead by 20.

A second recovered onside kick by the Copper Kings in this game gave them this drive, helping them shoe more precious time off the clock that the Gremlins need to get themselves back into this one.

A stop on fourth down, creaks the door back open for the Gremlins.

A touchdown on this drive would essentially wrap it up.

Tyler Howanen in shotgun, takes the snap, Keith Coyvisto behind him, steps back looking to pass.

Howanen over the middle of the field looking for Trent Anderson and that ball's batted away.

Sam Roth with a big pass break up this time and the Gremlins will turn the ball over giving it back to the home team's offense.

Excellent work there.

Sam Roth had an interception earlier in this game.

It's looking like a likely candidate for our turnover of the game.

Brought to you by Portage Tire and Auto Repair.

And with 8.41 to go in the fourth quarter, the Gremlins get the ball back on offense.

Trailing by three scores.

They need a touchdown.

They need it fast.

Copper Kings have already used two

of their three-second half-time outs.

Gremlins still have all three in their pocket.

Brody Donnelly in shotgun, four receivers out, two on each side.

Motion across in the backfield, and the handoff will be pitched off finally to the receiver, Sam Roth.

Roth will get upfield for a nice game.

And that play looked like it had been blown up in the backfield.

Excuse me, number 15, that's J. Samuelson, winds up getting the pitch.

Donnelly took the snap, faked the handoff to the running back, Michael Salina, and he stumbled out of the tackle box, must have had a player around his ankles.

And in a moment of desperation, he pitches it out to Samuelson, who cuts up for a gain of 10 yards.

Donnelly screen pass to Sam Roth this time.

He'll get out of bounds after gaining about six.

And the Gremlins on two plays have gotten themselves to within a few yards of midfield, second down and four coming up at the Gremlin 46.

Roth gets out of bounds the clock will stop at 822 Donnelly in the shotgun Selena in the backfield behind him motion across by Sam Roth Take the handoff to Roth and Donnelly will go up the middle quickly met and shut down by the Copper Kings defense

It's number 72 for the Copper Kings.

That's Joe Halonen in on the tackle.

It'll be a loss of about a yard for Donnelly and third down and five coming up.

Gremlins firmly in for down territory now.

Let's see what Coach Eli Loma cooks up for the Gremlins here on offense.

Donnelly in shotgun.

Takes the snap, looks for a screen pass, likes to keep it.

Quarterback keeper, he'll gain about four yards.

He's close to the first down marker, but I don't think he quite got it.

We'll see if the spot's generous for Donnelly here, but I think it's gonna be fourth, about half a yard.

And they'll put him right at the 49, so fourth and one coming up.

Donnelly tackled in bounds, so the clock is running, 720 to go and ticking.

Huddle breaks.

A crucial fourth down.

Gremlins need a yard.

Donnelly in shotgun.

Four receivers out wide.

Selena in the backfield.

Takes a snap.

It's fumbled in the backfield and a Copper King falls on it regardless of the turnover on downs.

Calliomet will retain possession.

I'm not sure.

If Donnelly got back to the ball or if a Copper King fell on it, either way, Copper Kings get the ball back around midfield.

And disaster on fourth down for the Gremlins.

Calumet gets the ball back with seven minutes to go, leading by 20.

And they will say that a Copper King fell on the ball.

They're going to give the Copper Kings the ball back at the Houghton Gremlin 48 yard line.

A fumble recovered in the backfield for a loss of a yard.

And we'll call that our portage tire and auto repair turnover of the game.

Ty Hallinan in the backfield takes the snap, hands it off to Keith Coyvisto.

Coyvisto will be met at the line of scrimmage and still on his feet but finally brought down behind the line.

And it's number 73 Chad Halonen in on the tackle for the Gremlins They'll say forward progress stopped at the line of scrimmage second and ten coming up Gremlins a turnover really the only way they can get back into this game Clock continues to run down

6-20 to go.

Three running backs set in the backfield for the Copper Kings.

It's Coyfisto, Anderson and Berg.

A pitch out to Keith Coyfisto.

The extra running backs are blockers.

Coyfisto cuts up on the left-hand side of the field.

He'll gain about seven, third and short coming up.

Officially halfway through the fourth quarter now.

Copper Kings more than happy to just let the time keep taking away.

Calumet, Copper Kings, and they're visiting white and blue jerseys.

Gremlins in their home black and orange.

Same three running back set, Howlin' and under center.

Tyler Howlin' takes the shot, takes the snap, and he hands it off to Keith Coyvesto.

Coyvesto cuts up the middle of the field.

Keith Coyvesto breaks back to the outside of the left.

Keith Coyvesto still on his feet.

Breaks free touchdown.

Calumet, Copper Kings.

Coivisto's third of the game from a flat 40 yards out.

And Keith Coivisto having a signature game today here at Alumni Field.

Extra point coming up.

Oscar Locust getting ready for it.

The holder is number 15 Owen Peterson.

Extra points in today's game brought to you by Range Vega the Copper Country.

Locus.

Snap and hold are good.

Kick is up and it is good.

Oscar Locus converts his third PAT of the game, or fourth PAT of the game.

They get 34 to seven.

Copper Kings lead by 27 points.

Gremlins do to get the ball back in 30 seconds here on WMPL.

Welcome back everybody.

High school football game of the week here on WMPL Calumet, Copper Kings.

Firmly in front now of the Houghton Gremlins leading 34 to 7 with 5 minutes and 17 seconds to go in regulation.

Tyler Hallen getting ready to kick the ball off.

After another touchdown for his team, he has two passing touchdowns today, a rare occurrence for him that he has not gotten a rushing touchdown so far.

It's been touchdowns for Keith Coyvisto.

so far and it's a squib kick that will be fielded and returned by the gremlins getting to about midfield on that far sideline it's Sam Roth once again

And Brody Donnelly and the Gremlins offense heads back out once again.

They found a touchdown earlier in this game near the end of the third quarter.

Thought they had a touchdown to end the first half.

It was brought back due to a holding penalty.

Donnelly, shotgun, Michael Salina behind him, four receivers out wide, two on each side.

Donnelly takes the snap.

And he'll keep it himself, Brody Donnelly.

Rolling out to his left cuts up field, he'll gain about five yards.

This is another fumble.

And the Copper Kings saying they have it.

But it's actually number three Sam Roth who gets there and once again saves a turnover.

Second down and nine coming up.

Donnelly had gained about three.

When the ball was punched out, it fell about a yard behind him.

And under five minutes to go in the game.

Gremlins tried to get creative with a fake handoff and eventually a read option on pitch play.

Donnelly elected to keep it, looked like the right read.

But the ball was punched out by the first defender he ran into.

Donnelly takes the snap, hands it off to Michael Salina, who is quickly brought down near the line of scrimmage.

Tyler Howen and involved in the tackle.

As is number 42 for the Copper Kings, who I unfortunately do not have on my roster, so likely a fifth quarter player.

A JV player getting some time on the varsity squad.

Third down and nine coming up.

Four minutes to go in regulation.

Brodie Donnelly, shotgun takes the snap and he'll keep it himself pitching it out now to Sam Roth Roth cuts at the field Sam Roth has room he'll get a first down and a bit more standing in bounds finally tackled at the Copper Kings 37 yard line Nice work there by Sam Roth

And

the chains will move once again

Gremlins offense starting to get down field Donnelly takes the snap screen out to Sam Roth Roth has room cuts up field He'll get to about the 30 and brought down at the 28 yard line make it a gain of seven Three minutes 20 to go in the game second down and five coming up

Ball is spotted at the 28 yard line.

Gremlins need to get to the 23 for a first down.

Three minutes to go.

Three receivers, bunch set on the right side.

Donnelly.

Oh, the snap is low.

He picks it up.

Brody Donnelly had his man over the middle of the field and complete.

He was looking for Jay Samuelson, who couldn't keep his hands on the ball a little bit too far in front of him.

Third and five coming up.

Clock is stopped after the incomplete pass, 2.54 to go in this game.

Michael Selina lined up behind Brody Donnelly, three receivers and a bunch set once again.

Donnelly rolls out to his right looking to pass, throws it over the middle of the field and Roth had his hands on it but couldn't bring the ball in.

Incomplete, a beautifully placed ball there by Brody Donnelly.

Oh, it was number seven, Alex Abair.

Getting difficult to see the numbers here.

4,000 and 5 coming up.

No reason to do anything but go for it here.

Get the offense of extra reps and the final three minutes of this game look for one more score.

Same formation as the past two plays.

Donnelly takes the snap, fakes the handoff, rolls out to his right, Brody Donnelly passes over the middle of the field.

That pass is caught and complete and it's number 10 for the Gremlins Russell Trawertha who will have enough for the first down.

Kremlin's moved the chains and this first down will be at the 21-yard line of Calumet It's the first time we've seen for Wertha out on the field today Donnelly and Shaka takes the snap steps back looking to pass once again, and he's brought down in the backfield

It's number 45, number 44, Jax Carlson in on the play.

No excuse me, it's a number 45.

Another fifth quarter player for the Copper Kings.

I'll need to ask for a copy of their junior varsity roster.

But the fifth quarter player is going to get a chance to shine on defense.

A loss of 10 yards on the sack.

Donnelly tried to escape, but couldn't get out of the pocket.

A minute 45 and counting.

Donnelly, shotgun takes the snap, fakes the handoff, keeps it himself, pitches it out, and a gain of about eight yards there for J. Samuel, so he fumbles with the ball, rolls out of bounds.

Third down and about 12 coming up.

3rd and 14 the official call.

Gremlins at the Calumet 24 need to get to the 10 yard line for a first down.

Clock is stopped at a minute 35 as the ball ran out of bounds.

There's the ball bounced out of bounds, I should say.

Four receivers set for Brody Donnelly.

Roth motions across the field, and Sam Roth will take the handoff.

Needs to get around a defender coming in on the blitz.

Sam Roth cuts off the field.

Sam Roth gets inside.

Touchdown!

Houghton gremlins.

And the end-around play for Sam Roth results in a second touchdown for the Houghton gremlins.

Make it 34-13, pending the extra point.

Nice work on the 24-yard rushing touchdown.

As the fight song erupts for the Gremlins, extra point coming.

Snap is good, hold is good, and Sam Roth will kick the extra point wide right on his point after try.

34 to 13.

Make the score 34-13 Both teams head back to the sidelines getting ready

For what we would expect to be the final drive of the game, Houghton and Gremlins still trail by 21 points.

So I would expect the Copper Kings can just head out and take a few knees and end this game once they get the ball back.

Gremlins may try to go for an onside kick just to get a couple more plays out there for the offense, but the result of this game and the win-loss column is essentially set.

It'll be Sam Roth out there to kick off for the gremlins.

Kickoff team is ready.

Roth is ready.

Return team is ready.

And here comes the kick.

It is an onside attempt.

It's not going to have the distance to be recoverable by the Gremlins, only got about 5 yards downfield.

And that means the Copper Kings will start with possession.

A minute 27 to go.

Again, Gremlins have all three timeouts, not much of a point in using them.

Quick injury update for you all.

Bryson, Nettle.

and Mason Joyle on the sideline, both now with a pair of crutches.

Remaining on the sideline, supporting the team.

Joyle in playing close, his injury happened right before the end of the first half, so when they headed back to the locker room, they got him out of pads.

Nettles still out there in his full uniform, the bar of the helmet.

And first and 10 coming up for the Copper Kings at the Gremlin 45-yard line.

Should just be a couple quarterback kneels away from wrapping this one up And it's gonna be number 12 Oscar Locas who takes the snap under center And oh they're gonna hand it off a penalty on the play Apologies number 42 out there in quarterback again I do not have his number on my roster a fifth quarter player getting some reps in at quarterback by the looks of it so interesting to see And it's gonna be a delay of game penalty backing up the Copper Kings by five yards

First and 15 coming up right at midfield Copper Kings head back out and it will be that same number 42 again likely a junior varsity player just getting some snaps in at the end of the game Take the snap hands it off

and after a gain of about five yards, so getting back to the original first down marker, we have number 63 for the Copper Kings, another fifth quarter player, not on my roster.

Coach Josh Franti deciding that some of the JV players who make the trek down here to Houghton will get some playing time today, leading by 21 with the ball, with a minute to play, may as well give them a few snaps, and they'll do just that.

That cow that copper King three running back set the number 42 under center He'll take the snap handed off the number 45 who goes up the middle who gains about five yards Again not on my roster but seeing some variety and who's getting the ball here and that's with 29 seconds left in the game and counting

Copper Kings do not need to run another play and they'll head back to the sidelines.

And this will be the end of regulation.

Your final score, Calumet Copper Kings.

Come to Alumni Field and defeat the Houghton Grounds by a score of 34 to 13.

Everybody, post game show here on WMPL brought to you by Kiwanaw Oberhead Dory, your final

score of the Calumet Copper Kings.

Defeat the hometown Houghton Gremlins by a score of 34 to 13.

Taking a look at our scoring recap.

Not much in the first quarter.

We were scoreless all the way through.

The last play of the first quarter was a 42 yard run by quarterback for the Copper Kings, Tyler Halonen.

Immediately after that, Keith Coyvisto has a 39 yard touchdown pass from Halonen for the first score of the game.

Oscar Locke kicks a PAT, which is good.

Make it 7-0 Copper Kings.

Houghton goes 3-0.

And afterwards, Andrew Juntula had a 2 yard touchdown pass on a botched snap to Tyler Halonen.

He was able to recover the ball and throw it to a wide open Juntula in the end zone after the Gremlins defense collapsed around him trying to get a big sack.

Gremlins go three and out once again, and then Keith Quavisto on the next drive able to cash in a one-yard touchdown run.

Locust goes three for three on PATs in the first half.

Copper Kings taking a 21-nothing lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Copper Kings received the second half kickoff.

They were actually forced to punt after one first down, and Sam Roth was able to catch a four-yard touchdown pass from Brody Donnelly.

And his PAT immediately afterwards was good, so the Gremlins got on the board near the end of the third quarter, making it 21-7.

Afterwards, we had Trent Anderson, number 36, cash in a five-yard rushing touchdown with a no-good PAT, making it 27-7.

Then there was a 40-yard touchdown run from Keith Coyvisto, making that his third touchdown of the game.

And then there was one final touchdown for the Copper Kings pick at 34-13 after Sam Roth cashed in a 24-yard rushing touchdown on an end-round play where the PAT was no good.

So your final score in today's matchup 34-13, we have a couple other segments we need to address, our pivotal play of the game.

I would say with that first recovered onside kick near the end of the first half, Tyler Howlinen

He's been going for squib kicks as the kickoff specialist for the Copper Kings all season long.

But today, twice, he just drilled one of the front hands team members of the Gremlins with a squib kick that bounced so perfectly off them that the ball came all the way back to the Calumet line after going 10 yards.

So the Copper Kings just fell on it and successfully recovered an onside kick.

So Hallinan made a huge impact on special teams for the Copper Kings today.

Additionally, I want to mention our collision of the game brought to you by your

I've got to give it to the SAC on the second drive of the game for Copper Kings.

It was a SAC, I believe, by Mason Joyle.

who got in the backfield and a pretty crucial sack that forced the Copper Kings to punt on their second drive of the game, keeping the game scoreless for a little while.

Again, the Gremlin defense came out fantastic in the first quarter.

They seemed to have all the answers to shut down the Copper Kings run game.

But once they got going after that first breakaway run by Tyler Howlinen, the floodgates opened and the Gremlins were not able to contain, especially Keith Coyvisto out of the backfield for Calumet for really the remainder of the game.

We're going to have our unsung hero coming up after these quick messages here in our post game show on 107.3 of the Uber.

Welcome back everybody, it's time for our unsung hero of the game brought to you by Martin Custom and Collision and again in back-to-back weeks I'm going to give it to a player from the losing team because frankly number three Sam Roth for the Houghton Gremlins had an incredible game.

multiple receptions that kept Houghton drives alive.

He was the kickoff specialist and extra point kicker for the gremlins today, so added the point through PATs, was very solid in the kickoff game as well, never gave the Copper Kings an easy kick return from the kickoff specialist position, and frankly,

At least the Gremlins fans thought he had three touchdowns today.

Only two of them going to show up officially on a scoreboard, a four-yard passing touchdown from the quarterback Brodie Donnelly, and a 24-yard rushing touchdown on an end-around that put the game, that was the final score for the Gremlins in this one.

So Sam Roth...

Had a fantastic performance tonight.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep the Houghton Gremlins in the game against the Copper Kings, who now improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Gremlins drop to 1-5.

We're gonna have our Coca-Cola of Hancock Player of the Game coming up after this quick intermission here on 107.3 The Uper.

Is Coke Zero Sugar the best Coke ever?

Try and decide.

Welcome back everybody, high school post-game show, wrapping up here on 107.3 The Hooper and it's time for our Coca-Cola of Hancock player of the game.

Today, despite another fantastic performance from Copper King's quarterback Tyler Halonen, I'm gonna have to give it to number 25, the running back...

Excuse me, the senior running back, Keith Coyvisto.

He recorded three total touchdowns today, one passing touchdown, two rushing touchdowns.

I believe he either got very close or cleared 100 total yards on offense, and along with Tyler Hallenan, was a pivotal force in keeping this game away from the Houghton Grubwinds after a very competitive first quarter.

That 21 point run

in the second.

Really just let the Copper Kings run away with this game and the Gremlins were not able to catch back up.

So Keith Coivisto is your Coca-Cola of Hancock Player of the Game.

four Michigan Tech Huskies.

Michigan Tech comes into this afternoon seven and seven overall in three and three in conference play.

And Huskies are back after splitting a pair of matches on the road last week.

That road trip started with a tough five set loss against rival Northern Michigan, but the Huskies bounce back in a big way on Friday.

going down to Detroit and sweeping Wayne State in three sets.

A big part of that success was number 18, Rachel Zurich, who put together a huge week offensively.

She averaged better than five kills per set over those two matches and hit 362.

And that performance earned her GLIAC offensive player of the week honors.

Zurich now has tallied 244 kills on the season and is averaging 4.28 kills per set.

which put her second in the Gliac and among the top 10 in Division 2 nationally.

And she isn't the only Hosski putting up some impressive numbers.

Setter, Madeline, Criter is averaging over 10 assists per set, third best in the Gliac, and Keely Nellis is seventh in the conference at 3.95 digs per set.

On the other side, Lake Superior State comes into hold in looking for its first Gliac victory of the season.

The Lakers are 3-11 overall and

0-6 in conference play.

This is also a program that's in its first season under a new head coach, Chelsea Cooktrip.

Lake State was picked 10th in the GLIAC preseason poll after winning just one match last season.

So Cooktrip is in the early stages of trying to rebuild this program.

Offensively, the player to watch for Lake State is Eliza Rosoli.

She leads the Lakers with 2.6 kills per set and she's also one of their biggest defensive contributors.

with 3.5 digs per set.

Azra, Bilalashir, has handled a large part of the setting duties in averages 4.5 assists per set.

Historically, this has been a series heavily controlled by the Huskies, and they lead the all-time series 38-4 and swept late state 3-0 in their last meeting.

We have plenty more on this matchup coming up, but first let's hear from Michigan Tech head coach Cindy Pindrell on Bix 93 WKMJ.

Michigan Tech taking on Lake Superior State this evening on a Friday.

Earlier this week, had coach Cindy Pindrow at her press conference and talked about the tough loss to Northern.

Another five-set, 3-2 nail-biter of a loss for the Huskies and then a bounce back to beat Wayne State at Wayne State on Friday by shutting them out 3-0.

I'm not really sure what happened there.

I feel like we tensed up kind of in some moments where we maybe shouldn't have.

I'm not really sure what happened in that match there.

We had a lot of chances and then it just kind of slipped away from us.

So a big theme going into Wednesday's practice was taking control of your situations.

We had a good chat with every single person on the team collectively and talking about like, all right, what are some ways that we can improve our mental toughness?

And the biggest theme was practicing more like how you play with injuries, a large group of freshmen.

and quite a few factors that I feel like our practices haven't been super competitive, but the girls have expressed like, all right, our practices need to be much more heated, much more competitive so that we can flex that muscle or at least practice that muscle when the time matters.

So I'm proud of them for taking a little bit of tough love from the coaching staff on Wednesday and a little bit of Thursday, and then responding really well over the

weekend.

Coach Cindy Pendrell went on to talk about Kayla Haydenin and the unusual situation she is in in every set.

every match being a strong hitter as a freshman and being a six rotation player on the court, which often leads to targeting from the other side.

Yeah, she is in a...

Interesting spot where she's a six rotation player who's passing in almost every single formation.

I think there's only like one rotation where we could pull her out, but we still keep her in by default.

She has a really great platform and it's kind of trial by fire this year.

Like, yeah, she's getting a lot of volume, but I'm not going to pull her out because she's doing well.

And she needs to like she's part of our future.

I would imagine that she's going to be a starter or a heavy contributor for her entire career here.

So I want her to feel that exposure and feel.

getting picked on for a lack of better term.

But she's holding her own.

She's doing.

great.

And she's definitely improved from the first couple weeks or first couple matches of season.

But yeah, I mean, if you look at any of the stats, usually one of the outside hitters on pick any team, they're the ones getting the most balls.

So because Rachel only plays three rotations, she only passes for maybe one or two of those rotations.

If any coach is doing their homework, they're going to serve the person who also has to go hit.

So yeah, Kayla's just going to get continue to get served out.

And that was that's every outside hitter.

Usually you try to avoid the libero or tried

to avoid a defensive specialist because that's their whole job.

So yeah, she's doing a really good job.

She's sticking in there.

I know there's a couple of things that she wants to continue to work on.

She's kind of hard on herself.

But she's doing a really good job this season.

The Huskies taking on Lake Superior State here this evening.

Yeah, very important.

This is our opportunity to get a spread in our league.

Again, I'm happy that we're staying alive at the 500.

Wins are hard to come by in this league against any opponent.

And we had a tough preseason schedule as well.

happy.

Of course, we had one or two that we wanted back and we could be a little bit better at the moment.

But we're learning, we're growing, we continue to rebound when they're set back.

So like that's all good things that we're training.

So yeah, we have a really big opportunity this weekend to kind of pull ahead and you know, give ourselves an advantage in the standings.

That was head coach Cindy Pendrell as we continue on in our pregame here on Mix 93 WKMJ brought to you by Kirkish Furniture.

The Huskies taking on Lake Superior State here this evening.

And we're back with our volleyball pregame here sponsored by Kirkish Furniture.

We're just about ready for this volleyball matchup against the Lake Spear State Lakers and your Michigan Tech Huskies.

For Michigan Tech, one big thing to watch early is whether the Huskies can establish their offense quickly.

Their offense is warming up right now and they look good.

Rachel Zurich has obviously been a huge part of that offense.

She's coming off Gliak player of the year.

player of the week honors after 24 kills against Northern Michigan and 18 against Wayne State.

And when Tech has been successful offensively, Madeline Kreider is setting that offense.

She's done an amazing job distributing the ball to all of her hitters.

Another big hitter up there is Kayla Hanodin.

She's taken on a huge load as we heard in Pindrell's interview, playing six rotations as just a freshman on this volleyball team.

For Lake State,

Rosoli is someone that tech will have to keep track of in every rotation.

She takes majority of these Lakers swings and she is going to bring the power for these Lakers.

She's averaging 2.6 kills per set and she leads defensively.

So not only are the Huskies going to have to defend her, but they're going to have to keep their balls away from her as she is their defender.

Lake State is still searching for that first conference victory.

at 0-6 in the Goliath play.

While Tech is looking to move above 500, there's 7-7 in overall and 3-3 in conference.

They'd really like to take over here.

Players are taking on their final warm-up and we will have the national anthem here and then we will be back after these messages on MIX 93 WKMJ.

Lake Superior State Lakers taking on your Michigan Tech Huskies.

We are about to have a special announcement here on the court.

We've got two players that hit some great milestones for the Huskies.

We've got number 18 Rachel Zurich who hit 1,000 career kills in her match against Northern Michigan.

Her first kill in that match was her 1,000th kill in her career.

And then on the following Friday in the Wayne State match, sweep Amelia Albers, DS Libero, hit 1,000 career digs, two seniors that hitting huge milestones in their career.

As we get ready for these starting lineups, we'll let you know what else is going on tonight.

We've got Husky Hockey back in the Mac.

We'll tune in to Dirk later on.

Dirk Kemberoff later on for that game.

Puck Drop is 7-0-7 as the Huskies will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a top 20 matchup.

The Husky Hockey...

will also play tomorrow at 607 puck drop.

Michigan Tech football will play Roosevelt tomorrow at 2 p.m.

at Roosevelt, and Michigan Tech soccer will renew their rivalry with Northern Michigan on Sunday at noon.

But for now, we're here with Michigan Tech volleyball as they take on the Lakers.

In this matchup, the Michigan Tech Huskies are 38 and 4.

And we are ready to see if we can add another one to that list.

Lakers are looking for their first GLIAC win of the season.

They are 0-6 in conference play.

And they are looking to tally a win over these Huskies.

But the Huskies are going to come out hot.

Rachel Zurich hit that 1,000 mark, and now she's in the top 10 for Michigan Tech total kills.

and she will look to increase that as we are only in the first half of the season.

Michigan Tech volleyball will also take on Purdue Northwest tomorrow at noon.

It's an earlier game because we have hockey and football tomorrow.

So that game will be at noon first serve.

We are really excited for this matchup against Lake Superior State.

As the players are looking to take the floor, we've got Michigan Tech on our right, if you're listening, and the Lakers are on our left.

Lakers are wearing Laker blue, and the Huskies are wearing their white sleeveless jerseys, and both teams are getting ready to take this set.

Coach Cindy Pendrell in her second year as head coach.

and Lake Superior State is led by Chelsea Cook Tripp in just her first season with the Lakers.

She joined them this spring and has been working hard with this team and they're hoping to get their first conference win tonight.

And the Huskies are looking to pull over 500.

They're looking to get their wins to outrank their losses.

As Keely Nellis checks in for the Huskies, Libero, and Mia Garcia checks in.

for the Lakers Libero.

Kayla Hanonen will have the first serve in this first set for the Huskies number four.

Her serve is good.

It's handled by the Lakers, a little out of system.

Set the right side attack and that's a kill for number 14, Rachel Steele.

She will rotate back to serve.

Rachel Steele is from Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

She's six foot one, and she's a fourth year.

Her serve is good.

Cale Hanuman takes the pass, outside a criter, outside a Zurich, dug out by the Lakers, outside, tipped over, and it's just not being able to be handled by the Huskies.

That's Alisa Rosoli.

Lakers will go up to nothing in this first set.

Serve is good.

Amelia Albers with the pass.

It's on a system.

Criter pushes out to Zurich.

Roll shot over, dug out by the Lakers.

Middle attack blocked, but it's picked up by the Huskies.

Goes out to Zurich again.

She'll take a swing, dug out again.

Set up, tipped over, Albers will pick it up.

Criter to Zurich again.

She gets dug out again.

Will go to the middle, dug out by the Huskies.

Rachel Zurich will take another swing.

Dug out by the Lakers, outside again.

And that will be a kill for Alisa Rizzoli.

Lakers take an early lead, 3-0 here in this first set.

We still have Rachel Steele back at the service line.

Huskies got a side out on this one.

That ball will be out of bounds.

That'll be a free point for the Huskies.

And Paige Wagner will go back to serve as Trisha Kennedy checks in for the Huskies.

She checks in with a little dab as she passes Keely Nellis there.

Page Wagner to serve it's 3-1 Huskies trailing Page Wagner serve is good right side to number six dugout by Kayla Hanon in Little scramble on the tech side Zurich will have to tap it over Outside to number 19 and Alisa Rosoli will get another kill for the Lakers She's off to a good start and we will get a serving sub in here for the Lakers number one Amelia Ashkoff

Ashcroft.

She'll go back to serve as the Lakers lead four to one in this first set.

Her serve is good.

Albers handles it though.

Outside to Rachel Zurich.

She puts it down and off the block and out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Huskies.

That was a big point for the Huskies.

They needed to side out quick in that rotation.

And Jacqueline Yancey will check in for the Huskies.

She will play her right side across that front line and we will have

Morgan Deming, check back in for the Lakers, but she will check out immediately for the Libero.

Mia Garcia.

And we will have Madeline Kreider back at the line.

Huskies trailing 4-2 in this first set.

Madeline Kreider with her jump serve.

It's good.

Dug out.

To the right side.

Lefty, out of bounds.

Yes, out of bounds.

Point Huskies.

That swing was taken by Shave Berixoff.

And Madeline Kryder will go back to the line again.

We've got 4-3.

Husky is still trailed by 1.

Madeline Kryder's serve is good, but it's a great pass for the Lakers outside.

Number 19, dug out by Madeline Kryder.

Kryder will set Zurich again to the outside.

She's dug out by the Lakers.

Great defense on both sides of this ball right now.

We'll go middle to Tricia Kennedy.

She's dug out by the Lakers.

Garcia will set that ball to the right side, and that will score.

Shay Beresoff will score for the Lakers there with that left-handed swing.

And she will check off here.

We will have number 17, Azra Biric.

Big catch.

Check in for the Lakers.

She is from Aden, Turkey, I believe, and Lakers will lead five to three here in this first set.

There's some confusion going on at the refing table checking rotations here Husky's really got to take over in this match.

They're making good plays, but the Lakers defense is eating them up Got to find a way to take over and get some kills in this set Lakers lead 5-3 in this first set.

We have some confusion going on down at the table looks like they're checking the Lakers rotations

Making sure they have the right server back at the service line.

The Huskies pet band here is in here.

Doesn't look like they're full force tonight, but I'm sure most of them are getting ready for that Husky-Hockey matchup against the Golden Gophers.

That's a top 20 matchup as Michigan Tech is ranked number 19, and the Golden Gophers are ranked number 14.

If I remember correctly, that'll be a great matchup.

All right, they're still checking these lineups.

I'm not sure what's there what the issue is if the book is wrong or if the Lakers misplace their steps here But we will see if this ref comes back and tells us what's going on The pet band is running their sieve cheer Trying to ice the server at this back line, but she is laughing.

She thinks it's funny

And we got Blizzard dancing here with Kate Locke's picture.

Looks like he's getting recorded for a nice video.

They've got those senior fathead waving around with Blizzard down there.

We'll see if they can figure out what the issue is here, why we're delaying this game.

It's five to three here Lakers lead if you're just joining us.

We're trying to figure out lineups here Someone got out of rotation whether it was actually the players on the court or the book Keepers at the table there got confused, but we're waiting to see if this will still be Lakers point or if they are out of rotation Michigan Tech is trailing five three in this set

Let's take a quick break on mix 93.

We'll be back after these messages

They finally figured out the rotations We had a little bit of a delay, but this is Michigan Tech volleyball the Huskies trail 3-5 in the first set We're back and The Lakers will serve this one leading 5-3 Serve is good.

Oh service in the net.

That'll be a free point for the Huskies She was back at that service line for a long time as we waited for that

Call but the Huskies will take cut the lead to one They're still down by one five four as Madeleine Elson will go back to serve Her serve is good dug out by the libero to the right side off the block Madeleine Elson makes a great dig Trisha Kennedy off the block dug out by the Lakers Outside lefty here Madeleine Elson with another great dig to Jacqueline Yancey.

She's got to tip it over

And the Lakers will be in the net.

That will be a free point for the Huskies.

They will tie it back up at 5-5.

Elson back to serve again.

The Huskies needed that one.

They now need to take over this set.

Assert some dominance over these Lakers.

Great serve by Elson.

They'll go outside.

Lefty roll.

Kreider will pick that up off the floor.

That was not down.

That is a free ball.

Push to the corner, but that one will be down.

That was a smart move by the setter.

Elson was kind of stuck in her boots and she pushed that out to the right corner and scored.

And we will have a 6-5 lead for the Lakers here as Alisa Rosoli goes back to serve.

Nellis handles it outside Hanon in.

She's off the block.

Doug!

Oh, there's some messiness going on on the Huskies side, and that'll be a point for the Lakers.

A lot of bobbling going on on the Huskies side.

Lakers will go up by 2 here, 7-5 in this first set.

Alisa Rosoli to serve again.

Great pass by Kayla Hanuman.

Kreider will set.

Yancey, she's off the block, but she's dug out.

Tricia Kennedy will put it back over.

To the outside for the Lakers and that'll go off the block and out of bounds.

That'll be point for the Lakers Lakers will take this lead five to eight eight to five here up by three Serve is good.

Oh, and it's an ace for the Lakers

They will take this lead up to four and Cindy Pindrell will call a timeout.

She's not happy with the performance of her team right now, so we will take a quick break and we'll be back after these messages on MIX 93

WKMJ.

We're back with Husky volleyball as the Huskies trail 9-5 in this first set.

Cindy Pendrell just coming off a timeout was not happy with the start of this set.

Huskies will have to bounce back here and see if they can terminate the rest of this set.

Lakers lead 9-5 in this first set.

Alisa Rosoli is back at the service line.

Her serve is good.

Great pass by Hanon in.

Right side to Yancey.

She puts it down, but she is blocked straight down.

That is another point for the Lakers as they increase their lead to five.

They are now up 10-5.

Huskies need to figure out some offense here.

Find a way to score.

Rosoli's serve is good.

Hanonin with a great pass.

Right side to Yancey.

She has no block, but she's dug out.

Garcia will set right side.

Dug out by Kreider.

Nellis will set Hanonin.

She's dug out again by these Lakers.

Non-stop defense on both sides here.

Great dig by Elson for the Huskies outside of Hanuman.

She tips it over off the block.

It's dug out.

Battle at the net, and Hanuman wins the battle at the net, and that'll be Point Huskies.

Huskies needed that one.

It is now 10-6.

Huskies still down by 4.

Keely Nellis at the service line.

First serve is good.

Handled by the Lakers outside, and that will be in bounds.

That'll be paint the corner right there.

That'll be another point for the Lakers.

This Husky defense just cannot win in this set.

They got to find a way to turn it on.

Libero Mia Garcia will serve for the Lakers 11-6.

We'll see if the Huskies can find a way to side out quickly in this rotation.

Now let's with the great pass outside of Hanon in.

She's dug out by the Lakers.

This Lakers defense can't say enough about it, but Huskies will get a free ball here.

They got to capitalize on this situation to Yancey.

She tips it over.

She's blocked straight down another block for the Lakers and the Huskies are now down by six as the Lakers lead 12-6 in this first set.

Mia Garcia back at the service line again for the Lakers.

Huskies need a side out.

Serve is in the net.

That'll be a free point for the Huskies.

Huskies have gotten quite a few service errors by these Lakers and yet they still can't put some points together.

Gotta figure out how to take over this set.

Amelia Albers checks in and she will serve for the Huskies.

Her serve is handled by the Lakers, but it's an overpass and Page Wagner puts it down to the floor.

Page Wagner said, I'm taking this game and I am putting you guys on my back.

Let's go.

Huskies cut the lead to four.

It is 12-8.

They're still trailing.

Amelia Albers to serve.

Great serve by Albers, and that'll be a service ace.

Just off the tip of the platform there by the Lakers.

Amelia Albers to serve again as the Huskies cut this lead down to three.

12-9.

Amelia Albers serve is good.

Tight pass.

It's handled and it scores.

Paige Wagner went up with the setter there even though she was back row and then she missed her blocking assignment there with the middle and she was able to score.

You won't see that error very much by Paige Wagner.

She always knows where her blocker is but just a misstep there.

Lakers go up 13-9.

in this first set.

Deep serve, passed by Albers outside the Hanon in.

She takes a big rip and she's handled by the Lakers.

They bobble that one over, but Madeline Kriter takes it with a two-handed dump and puts it away.

Calling her own number there, very smart situation.

Those blockers were ready for a hitter to come up and Madeline Kriter just tapped that one over.

Big kill there.

Huskies got the lead of 3-13-10 here.

They're trailing.

Kayla Hanon in to serve.

Handled by the Lakers.

Little miscommunication and they got to send a free ball.

Will it make it over?

Just barely.

Rachel Zurich handles it.

She'll...Cryder will set to Wagner and she finds the end line and that'll be a great kill point for Paige Wagner.

13-11.

Huskies trail by 2.

Kayla Hanon in to serve again.

Her serve is...

Good.

It's Autosystem for the Lakers.

A roll shot.

Nellis is all over it.

Middle of the Wagner and she puts it away down that line.

Just over the right back defender's head.

And that's a great kill for Wagner.

She's fired up.

Huskies only trail by one now.

13-12.

He don't need to serve again.

Great serve.

Autosystem for the Lakers.

They'll have to tip it over the net, but it's blocked by the Huskies.

They'll reset on the Lakers side.

Left-handed swing, handled by Hanronan.

Middle of the Page Wagner, she puts it away again.

Page Wagner is looking unstoppable here in this first set.

And the Lakers will take a time out, and we will also take a time out, and we will be back after these messages on Mix 93 WKMJ.

We're back with Husky Volleyball.

The Huskies have found a way to tie it back up.

13-13 here in this first set.

We got to give some credit to Paige Wagner here.

She has taken three swings and she has gotten a kill on all three swings.

She's taken over for this match for the Huskies as they have fought back to tie it up.

We'll get back on the court here and Kayla Hanonen will serve again for the Huskies.

Number four, Kayla Hanonen.

from Delano, Minnesota.

Long line of Hanonans that have played not only volleyball but hockey here for the Huskies.

Her serve is good and another ace for the Huskies off the platform.

That ball might have been going out, but she was able to make that passer play that ball.

Huskies will take the lead now 14-13 as Kayla Hanonan will take the serve again.

She drops it in a little shorter this time.

And that'll go off the block, and Keely Nellis is under it, but the block goes into the stands.

And that'll be a point for the Lakers, tying it back up at 14.

Speaking of 14, number 14, Rachel Steele for the Lakers will go back to serve.

Her serve is, oh, great pass by Elbers.

Paige Wagner on the slide, and she gets another one.

She is 4 for 4.

Four kills on four swings as she goes back to serve.

That's Paige Wagner.

Four for four.

And she will serve as the Huskies lead.

15-14 in the first set.

Great serve by Paige Wagner out of system for the Lakers.

Tipped over, Albers digs that up.

Criter with a battle at the net.

Outside to the Lakers.

Dug out by Kayla Hanonen.

Outside to Zurich, she puts it.

She's dug out too.

Outside again, dug out by Hanuman, cried her to Zurich.

She tips it over, and she finds that corner, and she finds a way to score.

That was a great IQ play for Rachel Zurich, pushing it over her blockers in the right back defender, and finds a way to score in the corner.

Huskies will increase the lead to 2-16-14 here in this first set.

Page Wagner to serve again for the Huskies.

Great serve by Page Wagner, and it's an ace!

She's got four kills on four swings, and she's now tallied an ace to her points.

That's five points accredited to Paige Wagner.

She'll serve again as the Huskies lead, 17-14.

That's a great serve again for Paige Wagner.

Gets him on a system.

They'll go outside, take this big swing in.

Paige Wagner tallies a dig, but it hits the ceiling, and it's unable to be dug out for the Huskies.

But that was a great dig for...

Paige Wagner, as she will now check out in the LaBarre O'Keeley Nellis, will check back in.

We will now have Amelia Ashcroft back to serve for the Lakers.

Huskies lead by two, 17-15 in this first set.

Amelia Ashcroft stands at just 5-4.

Her serve is passed by Nellis to Trisha Kennedy, and it's off the block and straight down.

That's a great kill for Trisha Kennedy.

As the Huskies increase their lead 2-3 here, 18-15 in his first set.

Madeleine Kreider will go back to serve and Jaclyn Yancey will check in for the Huskies to play across that front row.

Huskies leading 18-15 here and Madeleine Kreider to serve.

Kreider's serve is good, out of system for the Lakers, they got to go

sideline to sideline there and then up sending a free ball handled by Hanon and right side to Jacqueline Yancey.

She's blocked straight down.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

That was a tough ball there for Jacqueline Yancey.

She had two players clamped on her and the set was a little tight, so she didn't have much choice.

Huskies will trail or will lead by two here, 18-16 in this first set.

Lakers will serve.

And the serve is good.

Nellis will pass it.

It's got to be bump set to Yancey, dug out by Garcia.

Right side, blocked by the Huskies.

Outside, tipped over, blocked by the Huskies again.

And that'll be a straight down block for Rachel Zurich.

And she will get the Huskies up by three here.

And she will check out of the game, 19-16, as Madeline Elson checks back in to play her back row.

And she will take the serve.

for the Huskies here.

Madeleine Elson's jump serve is good.

Nice floater.

Overpass, Kayla Hanon ends up, but it doesn't quite make it over the net.

That'll be a point for the Huskies as they make it to the red zone.

Point twenty first here in this volleyball match.

Geo Waters will check back in as a DS for the Lakers.

Madeleine Elson to serve again.

Twenty sixteen here in favor of the Huskies.

Madeleine Ellison will serve into the net.

That will be a service error for the Huskies and the Lakers will go back to serve here.

We've got Alisa Rosoli back to serve for the Lakers as they trail 20 to 17.

Good serve, but it's handled by Nellis outside of Hanon and she takes a rip down the line dug out by the Lakers.

They're able to send a free ball.

Will we go back to Hanon and she will?

And she'll, oh, just out of bounds for Hanon in there, but that was a great swing.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Kayla Hanon in is heating up here in this set.

That was a great swing by her, just barely out of bounds there.

Good call by the line judges.

Lakers trailing still here.

Huskies lead 2018.

We'll go to Hanon in again, because why not?

She'll put it away cross court.

She is heating up here for the Huskies.

She's taking big rips.

Huskies will

increase their lead.

21-18 here as Keely Nellis will go back to serve.

Huskies are looking to close this set out as quickly as possible.

Right side here for the Lakers.

It's tapped over.

Nellis is giving a free ball there.

Yancy will take a big swing and it'll go off the defender and out of bounds.

That'll be a kill for Jacqueline.

Yancy.

Huskies are up by four now.

22-18 in this first set.

Nellis to serve again for the Huskies.

The Libero.

Great serve.

Outside for the Lakers.

Oh, and it's a little miscommunication on the defense there.

Criter went in front of Elson there and weren't able to recover it.

That was a great swing by Geo Waters there.

Outside hitter standing only at 5-7.

I thought she came in as a DS, but she has taken swings out there and she looks like she can jump from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Geo Waters.

Sorry.

Libero will serve and that will be a point for the Huskies.

Miss serve there by our Libero.

Mia Garcia, Mia and Gia.

Okay, Huskies will lead 23-19 here in this first set as Amelia Albers checks in for Jacqueline Yancey and she will serve number 15 Amelia Albers.

Her serve is tight and that'll be a point for the Huskies as that will be called as a setter back row attack.

I'm not quite sure if that was a back row attacker if Paige Wagner was over the net.

That's what the Lakers are calling for but in any way it'll be set point for the Huskies 24-19.

They look to close this out.

Amelia Albers will get the ace to close out the first set.

That was a great serve by Amelia Albers to close out that first set and the Huskies will take a 1-0 lead 25-19 here in this first set.

We will take

a break here and we'll be back after these messages on MIX 93 WKMJ.

We're back in the Wood Gym here with Husky Volleyball as the Huskies just took that first set 25-19 against the Lake Superior State Lakers.

We got to talk about Paige Wagner in that first set.

Paige Wagner took four swings.

She got four kills and she tallied in ace.

She's hitting 100 for the Huskies.

Sorry, 1,000 for the Huskies and she has really taken over this match.

We also got to give a shout out to Trisha Kennedy and Rachel Zurich both hitting over 200 here for the Huskies.

And we got to give the Huskies DS Libero, Amelia Auber, some credit as she has tallied three aces on this Lakers team.

We've got six aces total for the Huskies as Paige Wagner, Kayla Hanon, and Madeline Elson have also tallied aces for the Huskies.

Huskies took that first set 25-19.

They lead one set to none in this game against the Lake Superior State Lakers.

We do have to give some shout out to the Lakers here though.

They've got some big swing.

Big offensive power.

They've got Rachel Steele.

She's hitting 571.

She also has four kills and has only taken seven swings.

And we've also got number 13 Morgan Deming who is also hitting

400 for the Lakers.

All right, as we get ready to start set two here, Keely Nellis will check in as the libero for the Huskies.

And it looks like the Lake Superior State Lakers have switched their libero here in this second set.

The first set, it was Mia Garcia, and now Ava Wells will be the libero for the Lakers in this set.

It'll be 0-0 here in this second set as we get ready to start us off.

The Huskies lead 1-0 in this match.

Number two, Ava Tarsi will serve for the Lakers.

We're ready to go here.

Big serve for the Lakers here.

Can they start strong?

And it'll be out of bounds.

Free point for the Huskies.

Huskies will start off this second set 1-0.

Trisha Kennedy will check back in with her signature dab.

And Paige Wagner will go back to serve number 10 for the Huskies.

Got to talk about Paige Wagner and her performance tonight.

Lakers will get that lefty kill on the outside.

That is a hard ball to defend.

That is Shay Beresoff.

She take that lefty swing on the outside.

That is hard to defend.

You're not used to seeing that left arm on the left side.

You're used to seeing it on the right side.

tied up 1-1 here in the second set.

Kreider will take the dump, but she's dug out right side.

Barris off, and she is blocked, and that'll be a point for the Huskies.

Rachel Zurich and Tricia Kennedy together on that one for a nice block for the Huskies.

Jacqueline Yancey will check in, and Madeline Kreider will go back to serve as the Huskies lead 2-1 in this second set.

Criter serve is pass outside.

Oh Kayla, he don't even get to hand on it and the Huskies will be able to send a free ball.

They'll reset on their side, but the Lakers will go outside again.

Doug out and it's over pass.

The Lakers will send a free ball.

Keeley Nellis will slow it down for the Huskies.

Trisha Kennedy takes the swing and she gets the kill.

That was great defense on both sides of that ball.

Running balls down past the end line on both sides, but the Huskies come out on top 3-1 here.

as they take the lead.

Madeline Kreider to serve again.

Kreider serve is good.

Oh, and it's off the shoulder of Rachel Steele, and that will be an ace for Madeline Kreider.

That was a great serve off the shoulder of Rachel Steele.

Huskies take a great lead here for one in this second set.

Kreider serve is good, but it's handled this time to the middle.

Rolled over, Kreider will get the dig.

Yancy, Yancy will just punch it over there.

We'll go outside again.

Oh, and that's a great swing there by a Lisa Rosoli.

She put that one down the line and Huskies just weren't able to dig it out.

Amelia Ashcroft will check in for the Lakers as they trail by two.

Huskies lead 4-2 in the second set.

Ashcroft will serve here from Milford, Michigan, Milford High School.

That is around where I am from.

She's majoring in nursing Got a lot of a lot of nursing majors on this Lakers team a new major that the Michigan Tech Huskies now have Huskies lead 4-2 Passed by Hanuman right side to Zurich.

She's blocked but it's dug out by Nellis outside to Yancey She tips it over and she gets it off the platform of the defender and that'll be a point for Jacqueline Yancey

Huskies go up five to two.

Madeleine Elson will check in for the Huskies and she'll go back to serve and Amelia Ashcroft will check out for the Lakers.

Huskies lead five to in the second set as Elson goes back to serve number one for the Huskies.

Good serve by Elson set outside off the block of the Huskies outside right side.

to Barry, Barry Soft.

Right side to Yancey, she has got to tip it over a little out of placement there.

Dumped by the Lakers, set her and outside to Hanuman, but that'll be... That's a point for the Huskies, I guess.

That's a free ball by Yancey.

She kind of just, she was trying to set Hanuman in, but it went over the net.

And that'll be a point for the Huskies.

A weird one at that.

Jacqueline Yancey's apologizing, but...

She scored the point there for the Huskies.

They'll take the lead to 6-2.

Elson will serve again.

Gets the Lakers out of system.

Will go to Rosoli again.

She's dug out by Kreider.

Outside of Hanonen she's going to take a rip and it's off the block and the defender gets a touch but it is all Huskies there.

I could tell by the way Kayla Hanonen was getting to the ball.

She was going to take a rip on that and she sure did.

Huskies lead 7-2 here in this second set.

Elson's serve is good.

Handled though.

Right side dug out by Kreider.

Nellis will set Yancey.

She'll take a swing at it.

She's blocked.

Dug out by Kennedy.

Tipped over by Yancey.

Dug out by the Lakers.

Outside again.

Tipped right over the block and that'll be a great kill for Rosoli there.

She got that right over the Michigan Tech block and there wasn't a defender in sight to pick that up.

Lakers will cut the lead to four as the Huskies still lead seven to three.

We'll get a double sub here for the Lakers.

And we will see number nine, Avery Headworth in the match for the first time.

Avery Headworth will serve as the Huskies lead 7-3.

Her serve is good, but Elson with a better pass outside of Hanonan and she is taking rips.

That goes off the defender and into the stands.

Kayla Hanonan came to play today.

She has taken some big swings on that outside.

Huskies will increase their lead 8-3 here as Nellis will go back to serve.

That's a great serve for Nellis.

Great pass by the Lakers.

Little tight there and they tip it right over the block.

That is working today for Alisa Rezoli.

She tips that right over the block and gets that point for the Lakers.

Cuts the lead to 4.

It is now 8-4 and Rezoli will serve for the Lakers.

Rezoli's serve is good.

Elson has to barely pick it up.

Nellis, Huskies have to give a free ball.

We'll go outside.

They'll have to roll shot it.

Criter digs it up.

Page Wagner says, let me set that.

Ain't no name, we'll get it off the touch and out of bounds.

The Lakers are trying to say that it hit the antenna, but I don't think so.

That was a very smart play by Kayla Hannon and that ball was really tight set by Paige Wagner and Kayla Hannon went off and she just found that blockers hands and hit it back out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Huskies.

9-4.

Amelia Albers checks in to serve.

Great serve by Albers.

It's overpass and that was Madeline Crider's biggest dream.

She got that overpass and she got to take a swing.

Setters dream right there.

Overpass kill for Madeline Krider.

Huskies take the lead 10-4.

Albers to serve.

Another overpass and Paige Wagner says my turn.

Big overpass kill for Paige Wagner there.

Huskies go up 11-4.

Two overpass kills for the Huskies as the Lakers will take a timeout and we will take a quick timeout as the Huskies lead 11-4.

And they lead 11-4.

And they also lead 1-0 in sets.

We'll get back on the court here as Amelia albers will take the serve for the Huskies We got to talk about Kayla Hanon and she Started a little slow as all the Huskies did but she has turned it on here in this second set.

She's now hitting 308 Albers to serve for the Huskies serve is good passed by the Lakers lefty.

Oh, and it goes right between the two defenders there for the Huskies and

Elson gets a touch on it, but she's not able to get a good dig on it.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Libero for the Lakers will serve as they trail by six.

It is 11-2-5 here in this second set.

That'll be Ava Wells.

Outside of Hanon and she takes a rip, but she's dug out outside and that is out of bounds.

That'll be out of bounds for Rachel Steele.

That'll be a quick point for the Huskies there as they side out.

Speaking of Rachel's, Rachel Zurich will check back in for the Huskies as Kayla Hanonen goes back to serve.

12-5 in this second set.

Good serve by Hanonen.

It's handled by the Lakers and they'll tip it over but it's bottled out by the Huskies.

They'll have to send a free ball and it'll score.

Little miscommunication on the Lakers side but Keely Nellis will tally a kill there as she put that ball right to no man's land on the Lakers side.

Katelyn will serve again 13-5 for the Huskies and That'll be bobbled around on the Lakers side, but ultimately a Husky point They will go up again 14-5 here in the second set Geo waters will check in for the Lakers as they sub out number 14 Rachel Steele Will set the middle here for the Lakers and that'll be on the line just past Nellis there

Lakers will take that point and they will have their double sub We will have Shea Beresoff check back in and also Eva Tarsi Eva Tarsi will go back to serve for the Lakers.

She will set in these rotations Huskies still lead 14-6 here.

They've got a good lead.

They got to keep it Good pass by Albers outside of Zurich.

She's blocked, but it's recovered by Albers

Kryder will take a dump, but she's picked up very easily.

Dug out by Albers.

Middle of the page Wagner tipped over.

Will set outside Geo Waters.

Oh, just over the block and in bounds.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Geo Waters taking that swing.

She is only 5'7", but she's taking swings out there.

14-7 in favor of the Huskies still.

Tarsie to serve.

We'll go slide attack for Paige Wagner, and she's blocked straight down.

That'll be Paige Wagner's first error of the game.

As the Lakers cut the lead to six here, Huskies still lead 14-8.

Tarsie to serve again for the Lakers.

Her serve is good, but Albers will make a beautiful pass.

We'll go slide attack for Wagner.

She's dug out.

We'll go back row.

Roll shot dug out by Hanon in.

Outside of Zurich, she'll try to put it away and she will.

That'll be a nice cross-court attack by Rachel Zurich and she'll get the kill.

Huskies will tally another point.

Trisha Kennedy checks back in.

Paige Wagner back to serve.

It's 15-8 in favor of the Huskies now.

Paige Wagner will serve here.

Great serve by Paige Wagner.

Will go outside to Barisoff.

She's dug out by Wagner.

Kaila Hanon and we'll take a back row attack here.

She's dug out by the Lakers.

We'll go Barisoff again.

She's dug out.

Zurich will take a swing here for the Huskies.

She's dug out.

Great defense on both sides of this ball.

Barisoff will take another swing and it'll be out of bounds.

That'll be a free point for the Huskies.

Great defense on both sides of this arena, both sides of this gym.

And we will get a new Husky in.

We've got...

Number 11 for the Huskies, Laney Kanak.

She checks in as a freshman middle blocker for the Huskies as they lead 16-8.

Page Wagner will serve as she's dug out.

And a middle, Page Wagner digs the middle.

Outside to Zurich, she'll roll shot it to the four zone.

Will go right side to Geo Waters.

She's dug out by Hanon in middle to Laney Kanak and she's blocked straight down.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Credit to Lainey Kanak for going and taking that swing.

She went up hard and she took a swing.

She was blocked.

Happens in volleyball.

Huskies still lead 16-9 as Geo Waters will serve for the Lakers.

Her serve will be in the net.

That'll be a free point for the Huskies.

Their lead will go up to 8 as they lead 17-9 here in this second set.

Madeleine Crider will go back to serve as Jekyll and Yancey will check in to play right side across that front row.

Criter will serve for the Huskies.

It's good.

Good pass by the Lakers.

They'll set their middle tip over the block.

Yancey handles it.

Woo!

That'll be a miscommunication between Lady Kanok there and Madeline Criter who wants to set the ball.

The Huskies middles are really into setting the ball, but Madeline Criter was there.

And that'll be a big kill for the Lakers.

They'll get to 10 here as we will cut the lead to 7.

17-10 in favor of the Huskies.

Amelia Ashcroft checks in to serve for the Lakers.

Lakers serve is good.

Great pass by Hanon in outside to Yancey.

She goes off the block.

It's dug out.

We'll go outside again for the Lakers and tipped and it is out of bounds.

That'll be a tip out of bounds for Alisa Rezoli.

And the point will go to the Huskies as they will increase the lead 18 to 10 here in the second set.

Madeleine Elson just checked in for the Huskies and she will go back to the service line.

Her jump serve will be good.

Good pass for the Lakers.

They'll go right side to Barracroft.

She'll be dug out.

Kryder will set Hanon in and tipped over by blocked again by the Huskies outside the Rosoli again off the block dugout by Kryder.

Keeley Nellis will go outside to Kayla Henneman and Kayla Henneman and we'll find the net there and that'll be another point for the Lakers.

Lakers will cut the lead of 7 again.

18-11 here still in favor of the Huskies as the Lakers take that double sub.

Katelyn Metelski will come into the front row and we've got number nine Avery Headworth in the back row.

Every headworth serve is handled by Nellis right-sided Yancey.

She finds the tip off the block and the overpass will go out of bounds.

That'll be a point on the Husky for the Huskies.

That was a good dig for the Lakers, but it just went over the net and out of bounds there.

Three point for the Huskies.

Nellis will serve for the Huskies as they lead 19-11 in the second set.

Oh, that was a...

Out of bounds for the Lakers.

That was a double set by the setter there for the Lakers, but those don't count anymore as long as they stay on their side.

That was pushed to the corner and just out of bounds.

Huskies will get to 21st here as it's 2011.

Now, it's to serve.

We'll go outside.

Lefty Bearcroft.

That hits the ceiling on the Huskies side.

Kayla Hanon and we'll have to just roll shot it over.

Sorry, that was Matelsky.

Matelsky will take another swing.

Criter will set Yancey.

She'll tip it over.

She's dug out outside.

We'll go back row to Geo Water.

She's blocked, touched by Paige Wagner and she's dug out.

Paige Wagner takes the swing.

Paige Wagner at the net and Paige Wagner will handle it at the net.

That'll be a point for the Huskies.

A lot of back and forth, a lot of overpasses in this game that net play is very important.

Paige Wagner is taking care of business there.

Huskies lead by 10, 21-11 in the second set.

Keely Nellis to serve.

Her serve is good and that will be an ace for the Huskies.

I guess not quite sure if that counts as an ace with three touches, but the second touch wasn't very quality and the third touch was to the ground.

So that'll be a point for the Huskies.

22-11 they lead.

Great serve for Keely Nellis and that'll be an ace serve.

Huskies will lead 23-11.

and the Lakers will take a timeout as the Huskies lead 23-11 in this second set and they lead one to nothing in sets and we will take a quick break and we'll be back after these messages on MIX 93 WKMJ.

Roger that.

Alright, we're back as we come off this Laker timeout as the Huskies lead 23-11 in this second set and they lead one to nothing in sets here in this game.

We'll get back on the court as Nellis will serve for the Huskies and the Lakers will get back on a little bit of a delay here.

Huskies are looking to close out this set quickly 23-11.

They're looking to get two more points here and go into this third set with all the momentum.

It is looking all Huskies at this point.

Now it's to serve.

It's handled by the Lakers and that'll be out of bounds.

Point for the Huskies.

Lakers will think that's in bounds but it is not.

At least from my angle.

Huskies are looking at set point here 24-11.

They're looking to take this second set.

and get ready to close it out, but Healy Nellis will serve that into the net.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Set point number two, 24-12 here in this second set.

We'll have Rachel Steele, nope, number 19, Alyssa Rosoli, Alyssa Rosoli, and Jacqueline Yancey will take that final kill as the Huskies take the second set.

25-12, much more dominant take by the Huskies.

25-12 as they lead two sets to none in this Husky volleyball match versus the Lake Superior State Lakers.

We will take a break and we'll be back after these messages on MIX 93 WKM.

And we're back with Husky volleyball here as we were between the second and third set here.

Huskies have taken over this match incredibly well.

They lead two sets to none against the Lake Superior State Lakers as they look forward to closing out this set.

This match in three sets and the Lakers are looking to extend this match as much as possible if they can pull off this third set win.

Looking to some statistics here.

Paige Wagner.

I said it again.

She is hitting 500.

She's got two assists in ace, three digs.

She is doing it all here for the Huskies.

We also got to give a shout out to Madeline Krider, who has not only set the offense with 16 assists, she also has Tally to kill of her own.

Trisha Kennedy and Rachel Zurich both tell no errors for their swings.

and Kayla Hanronan is rallying too with six kills.

Lake Superior State is struggling a little bit here, but they still have two big hitters that I feel they are underutilizing here.

Morgan Deming and Rachel Steele are both hitting 3-33 and I don't think they're getting enough balls.

Rosoli is hanging on, she's hitting 2-73, but the Lakers defense is just falling apart against this Huskies offense.

And credit to the Huskies offense because they are taking over this match.

They're ready to go in this third set.

They came out of the locker room a little earlier than the Lakers.

Lakers probably have a little bit more to talk over, but Huskies are looking to bring their lead.

Bring this lead to 3-0 and take this match home and take care of business.

Cindy Pendrell will be hoping to take this match in 3 to take care of business here.

Lakers.

need to win this set if they want any chance of winning this match.

As they have no conference wins and they would like to tally one here tonight.

It's going to be a uphill battle for the Lakers to tally a conference win here tonight because the Huskies are on fire and all the momentum is on the Huskies side as we get ready for set three here.

with Michigan Tech volleyball against the Lake Superior State Lakers.

If you're just joining us, the Huskies are leading two to nothing in sets.

They won the first set, started off a little slow, 25-19, but came back in the second set and won handedly, 25-12, as all momentum was on the Huskies side.

We'll see if the Lakers can come back and find some fight here in this third set to extend this game on.

Or if the Huskies will continue their dominance and take this one in a sweep.

Teams are getting set on the floor here.

Lakers will keep Ava Wells as their libero.

They started the game with Nia Garcia as their libero, but they switched to Ava Wells in that second set.

And Kayla, hey, no, no, we'll serve here.

Wells will pass outside of Barry Soft.

Douga by Elbers will go outside to Zurich.

I'm Husky's side and she's blocked straight down.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Not how the Huskies wanted to start this first set with their biggest hitter getting blocked straight down.

That's a momentum point for the Lakers.

They go up 1-0 in this third set.

Geowaters will serve for the Lakers.

Her serve is good, but it's a tight pass by Elbers, but

Overpass swing is blocked by Crider.

She'll run a slide to Paige Wagner, and she'll call that out of bounds.

The line judge will call that out of bounds.

Sorry, he'll call that out of bounds.

That was very close.

I thought it was in, but no one's arguing.

Lakers go up 2-0.

Geowaters to serve for the Lakers.

And the ball is out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Huskies.

They'll cut the lead to 1.

It'll be 2-1.

in favor of the Lakers.

Paige Wagner back to serve for the Huskies.

Nola Bear on the floor for the Huskies.

Paige Wagner's serve is good, but the Lakers will dump that ball.

Kreider will set Rachel Zurich, and Rachel Zurich will get the kill off of the dig from Paige Wagner's.

Paige Wagner back to serve again.

Tied up at 2-2 here in this third set.

Huskies are looking to dominate and take this in a quick sweep here.

Paige Wagner's serve is good.

Will go outside to steal, I believe.

Part of me that is Deming.

Sorry, Rosoli.

Anyway, Huskies point there.

They'll go up 3-2.

We've got Rosoli on the outside for the Lakers.

They've been switching their lineups up a lot here in this game, so getting a little mixed up with the players.

But Paige Wagner will serve 3-2 in favor of the Huskies.

Great serve.

We'll go to the middle here, and that'll be straight down.

That'll be a kill for Morgan Deming, one of the players.

I said they were not utilizing well enough, but she'll take a swing and she'll get a kill.

That's a great swing for Deming as she will go back to serve for the Lakers here as it's all tied up 3-3 in this third set.

3-3-3.

Albers pass will be a little bit off there.

Hanuman will have to take a down ball.

Dug out by the Lakers.

We'll go lefty on that right side.

That is number six, Shay Beresoff.

She took a big rip there.

Blockers are a little bit late.

That'll be a quick kill for the Lakers as they go up 4-3 here in this third set.

Deming to serve again for the Lakers.

Kayla Hanonan makes the pass will go slide to Trisha Kennedy a little off speed there a little misconnect on the ball But she gets the kill ultimately and that's all that matters Huskies will tie it back up at 4-4 Jekyll and Yancey will check in for the Huskies Jackie's been taken on the load of the right side there with Madeleine Torla injured out for the Huskies Criter will serve Passes handled

Little out of system for the Lakers, but a big swing comes out of it.

Hano and then we'll dig it out.

Criter will go outside to Zurich.

She'll take a swing dug out by the Lakers.

We'll go right side to Barasov.

She'll take a cross court shot, but it's dug out by Criter.

Nellis will set Rachel Zurich and she finds the court that's just barely in and that's a great kill for Rachel Zurich as she finds that end line.

Side line, pardon me.

And the Huskies will take the lead.

5-4 here in this third set.

Madeleine Criter.

to serve again for the Huskies.

Her serve is handled by the Libero on the Lakers side.

We'll go to Bears off again.

She'll tip it over.

She's a lefty and had to play that with her right hand.

Back row attack for Geo Waters and that's out of bounds.

Geo Waters took that big swing out of the back row but it'll be just out of bounds for her.

Huskies will increase that lead 6-4.

Madeleine Crider to serve again.

Critters serve is oh good deep to the back corner A little out of system bearstaff will have to take a little off that swing will go middle to Trisha Kennedy.

That's dug out But the Lakers will get called in the net number four Giselle Whitman will get called in the net there And the Huskies will increase the lead of three.

They're up seven four here in this third set Madeline Critters to serve again She drops that one in a little short, but it's

passed really well by the Lakers and that will be blocked but it'll come down on the Huskies side so that will be a point for the Lakers.

That just came down on Tricia Kennedy there in Jacqueline Yancey.

Lakers will cut the lead to two.

Huskies still leading seven to five here in this third set.

We'll have the double sub made for the Lakers and Tarsi will go back to serve.

Five-six center from Boine City, Michigan.

Yancy with a great pass off that will go to Kennedy, but she has to just tip it over a little misconnection there.

But Lakers will have to send a free ball.

Ken the Huskies capitalize on this.

We'll run the second tempo ball for Jacqueline Yancy and she gets the kill off the platform of the little barrel for the Lakers.

That's a great swing for Jacqueline Yancy.

She comes in with that second tempo through the middle.

They jump with Trisha Kennedy and Jackie has the whole court to take care of business.

Rachel Zurich will check out as Madeline Elson will check back in as she serves 8-5 here in favor of the Huskies.

Elson's serve is float and deep.

Will go right side here, take a big rip and Elson gets a touch on it, but that will ultimately be a kill for Alisa Rezoli as she took a big swing on that ball there and she will go back to serve.

Huskies leading 8-6 here with Laker serving.

Rosoli's serve will be deep, but Elson will handle it.

We'll go right side to Yancey.

She takes a big swing.

She's dug out by Rosoli.

We'll go back row to Rosoli.

She'll have to roll shot that.

Criter will pick it up.

Nellis will set Hanonan.

Hanonan comes in for a big rip.

It'll be off the block, but Lakers pick it up off the block.

We'll go outside to Geo Waters and dug out by Criter.

And we'll get a little roll shot here by Kayla Hanonan.

Lakers will reset.

Roll shot by the Lakers.

Nellis will take a set.

Shield set, Yancey.

Roll shot by Yancey.

Outside of Geo Waters.

Geo Waters tips it over.

Tricia Kennedy gets a block there, but it's back on the Huskies side.

We'll go outside of Hanon and she takes a big rip.

She's dug out defense on both sides going crazy.

Waters will take a swing.

Nellis handles it.

We'll go right side of Yancey and she'll put it away off the blocking out of bounds.

Great kill there for Jacqueline Yancey as a battle of the defenses happened and big cuts were being made, but Yancey decides to put it away on that one.

Huskies will go up nine to six and Keely Nellis will serve.

Nellis serve is good outside for water.

She'll hit it down the line.

We'll go to Yancey again.

She'll tip it down the line and then we'll go to Waters again.

She'll hit it.

Nellis will dig it out.

Little tight there.

Criter saves it.

Paige Wagner will put it over.

Will go outside of water.

She tips it over.

Criter picks it up.

Wagner will set Hanon in.

Hanon in will go in for a swing and she'll take care of business.

That ball was inside and Kayla Hanon in took some big steps to get to it and she still found a way to take a big swing on that ball.

Huskies will go up 10-6 here in this third set looking to take over the match.

Nellis's serve is deep, but it's handled.

We'll go outside to Waters.

Nellis gets a touch on it, but it's off her platform and out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Husky's still up by three here, 10-7 in this third set, as we will have Ava Wells back to serve the Libero for the Lakers.

Her serve is handled by Elson.

We'll go right side of Yancey.

She'll take the swing and she'll get a kill.

Yancey is heating up here in this third set.

She's looking to take over this match as well.

She'll check out of the game as Amelia Albers will check in.

Huskies will take the lead up to 11-7 here in this third set.

Amelia Albers serving for the Huskies.

Her serve is good, but it's passed by the...

Geo Waters will take a swing off of it.

Crider will set.

Page Wagner on the slide and she goes off the block and down.

Another kill for Page Wagner.

Huskies go up 12-7.

Albers still at the service line.

Albers is one of the strongest servers here for the Huskies.

As she gets a, oh, she hits a girl in the face, but it's dug out.

Waters will take a swing and that's a big swing for Waters.

She stands at only five seven, but she came in and she took a big rip on that ball and it's down point for the Lakers.

They'll double sub here.

And they will trail by four only.

12 to eight here.

As we've got Azra back to serve.

Her serve is.

Good.

Elson will get a great pass off that serve.

We'll go to Hanonan on the outside.

She's blocked, but it's recovered by Kryder.

Kryder will, Paige Wagner will set Kryder for the swing.

And she'll get blocked, but it's recovered by the Huskies.

Kailah Hanonan will just have to tap that over.

That's dug out.

Kryder will set Hanonan.

Hanonan has to free ball that little out of system set there.

and we'll get a little miscommunication on the Lakers side.

That'll be a free point.

I got to bring up that play there by Kryder.

She took that first ball and Paige Wagner said, I'm going to set my setter.

Madeline Kryder, she transitioned.

She was ready to take that swing.

They've practiced that.

Huskies lead 13-8.

Hanon in to serve.

Her serve is out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Lakers.

Madeline Kryder is having fun here tonight.

She has gotten to get that over.

Overpass kill and got set there by Bage Wagner.

Huskies lead 13-9 here as Geo Waters will serve for the Lakers.

Handled by Nellis will go outside to Zurich.

She's a little tight and that'll be a win for the Lakers on that tight pass or tight set.

Lakers will cut the lead to three.

It'll be 13-10 still in favor of the Huskies.

Geo Waters to serve again for the Lakers.

Amelia Albers handles that.

We'll go slide attack to Paige Wagner off the block when she's dug out.

We'll go outside again, blocked by the Huskies.

We'll see if they'll set Rosoli again.

Nope, they'll go to Bearcroft.

Bearcroft's dug out by Albers.

We'll go outside to Zurich on the Huskies side off the block.

We'll go right side to Bearcroft again.

She finds the line and that'll be a kill for Shea Beresoff.

Beresoff, pardon me.

And that'll be another point for the Lakers.

Huskies cut the...

They'll lead 13 to 11.

Laker serve Geowaters.

Good serve by Geowaters, but Kayla Hanlonen says no big deal.

Rachel Zurich will take the swing.

She's dug out by Waters.

That'll be into the net and Lakers are not able to recover that pass.

Huskies will increase the lead by three here.

14-11.

Third set.

Paige Wagner to serve for the Huskies.

She's looking to add another ace.

to her repertoire in this game.

Her serve is good.

Great pass though for the Lakers.

They'll go outside and off the block.

That'll be Lisa Rosoli on the outside for the Lakers.

She gets that point.

They'll cut the lead to two.

Huskies lead 14-12.

As Morgan Deming goes back to serve for the Lakers, Huskies got to capitalize here with no libero on the court for the Lakers.

Good pass by Hanonen.

We'll go outside to Zurich.

Zurich will put it away.

That's what they needed.

First ball side out for the Huskies.

Very important.

Jacqueline Yancey will check back in as Madeline Kreider goes back to the service line.

Huskies lead 15-12 in this third set.

Looking to take over and end this match.

Good pass for the Lakers as we'll go outside and that'll be a great kill for Rosoli.

She found the court.

Those are the ones you kind of give up.

That was a great swing.

She found empty court little undefendable there Lakers will cut the lead to two again.

It'll be 15-13 still in favor of the Huskies as Tarsi goes back to serve Setter one of the setters for the Lakers Her serve is good, but Hanon in with the perfect pass will go outside of Yankee.

She'll take a big swing She's dug out by waters there dump

But Kayla Hayden is all over it will go to Yancy again.

She gets a good swing off that waters digs her out again will go outside and that is a husky block straight down Rachel Zurich.

She's getting pushed around by her teammates because I was a great block in the clutch moment.

She'll check out as Elson checks back in and the Huskies lead 1613 here in this.

There's that.

Huskies are looking to take this one and keep running.

Hold the serve here with metal and Elson at the line.

Madeline Elson's serve is super deep, but the passer takes it.

Waters will take a swing out of the back row.

Crider will set.

Hanonin, she takes a big rip, but it's dug out by the libero on the Lakers side.

Waters will take another back row attack.

It's dug out by Elson.

Crider will have to save it off the ceiling.

Kayla Hanonin will tip it off the block and recover.

Then we'll go back to Yancey off the blockers head and out of bounds.

That'll be a point for the Huskies.

Not sure if that hit her head or her shoulder, but that was a great swing by Yancey.

Great set by Madeline Crider, reversing the flow there and getting that ball out to Yancey.

Elson will serve again, 17-13.

Great serve by Elson, we'll go right side and that'll be a great kill there for Eliza Rosoli.

Alisa Rosoli, pardon me.

That was a great swing by her.

And that'll be a Laker point, 17-14.

Resoli will go back to serve.

Good serve by Resoli.

Will go to Jacqueline Yancey.

She had one blocker that was way out.

She hit a cross court shot there.

Easy point for Jacqueline Yancey.

That's her bread and butter, those cross court shots.

That's a good swing.

Huskies will go up 18-14.

Nellis to serve for the Huskies.

That's a drop serve.

Will go right side for the Lakers and that'll be a great swing.

That's Rachel Steele.

She is looking to get her name back in this game.

That was a great swing by Rachel Steele for the Lakers.

They'll cut the lead back to three.

It'll be 18-15.

We'll have number 22 Geo Waters to serve for the Lakers.

She's handled by Elson, but the Huskies will have to send a free ball.

We'll go outside to Waters.

She takes a big swing.

Elson will dig it out.

But it's overpassed and it's put down by the Lakers.

I'll be number 13.

Morgan Deming puts that down.

Madeleine Elson got a good dig off of that, but it went over the net and Deming was able to put it straight down.

Lakers will cut the lead to two.

Huskies still lead 18-16 here.

Ava Wells to serve.

And her serve is out of bounds.

That'll be a nice needed point for the Huskies there.

They're looking to take control and get to the red zone first here.

Amelia Albers will check back in and she will serve as Huskies lead 1916 third set.

Amelia Albers, senior DS Libero.

Her serve is good and she'll get an ace.

She paints that back line.

She will add to her tally of aces on the season and she will cause a Laker timeout as the Huskies lead.

20 to 16 here in this third set, and we will take a quick break with them as well.

After these messages, and we'll be back after these messages on MIX 93 WKMJ.

Huskies lead in this third set 20 to 16 and they lead two sets to none We'll get back on the court here and Amelia Albers will serve for the Huskies Amelia Albers serving has just been impeccable for the Huskies this year Can't say enough of not only getting aces, but just putting the other teams out of system She's a great person you want to keep back at that line

Another great serve, but it's a beautiful pass for the Lakers, but they'll hit will just their hit will just be out of bounds It'll be another point for the Huskies.

I Saw what Morgan Deming was trying to do there, but she just missed that out of bounds Amelia albers will serve again 21-16 favor of the Huskies That's a great serve for albers.

We'll find it in the middle for the Lakers and Paige Wagner says not today Paige Wagner with the solo shutdown block

That was huge for Paige Wagner, and it looks like we'll get another sub for the Huskies.

We'll get Reagan Leslie in this game.

She'll check in for Kayla Hayden and she'll get a little breather as we look to close this set out.

22-16 in favor of the Huskies.

Amelia Albers drops in a short serve.

We'll go outside to Geo Waters, but that'll be a free point for the Huskies as the Lakers crossed the center line on that point.

Huskies will go up 23-16.

Oh, yeah, the center for the Lakers there.

So I watched the replay put that foot under the line.

That's a new rule.

I believe this year or last year Huskies lead 23-16 Tight middle dug out by Albers.

Criter will go to Paige Wagner.

She'll have to tip it over.

Little miscommunication there will go right side.

Keely Nellis gets the touch, but that will go into the stands.

That'll be a kill for number 14 Rachel Steele.

And she will check out of the game with another double sub.

Husky's still leading in this set 23-17.

They're looking to get two points here to close this match out and add another win in their win column.

Get them to go above 500.

Lakers will serve here.

Serve is good.

Albers will get a perfect pass.

We'll go slide to Paige Wagner.

She's dug out.

It's tight.

Criter will dig that out.

It goes over the net.

We'll go to Leslie.

She'll take a big swing coming in cold here and taking a big rip.

Oh, that was saved by Amelia Albersfoot, but it will ultimately be four contacts there for the Huskies.

It went off of Criter's hand and then hit Albersfoot as they both went, or Page Wagner's hand, and then Albersfoot, but it ended up being four contacts.

Huskies still lead 23-18 here.

Lakers to serve again.

Good serve for the Lakers hits Amelia albers in the chest Leslie will have to recover at free ball from crater Lakers will go outside of waters.

She goes off the hands of metal and crater That's a skill you got to have when you're an undersized outside as Geo water stands at only five seven She's got to find a way to tool off that block and she is doing it quite efficiently for these Lakers Lakers will cut the lead to four it is 23 19

Huskies got a side out so that we can take care of this match, but we'll get it overpass and we'll go out of bounds That is a free point usually for the team, but the Lakers hit that one out of bounds So the Huskies will take this set set and match point 24 19 Reagan Leslie will stay in the game and she'll go back to serve on game point here Lakers handle it will go right side of waters.

She gets a great swing, but it's handled by the Huskies Rachel Zerk will tip it over

Still on the Lakers side, off the block, pushed over by Waters.

We'll go to Rachel Zurich and she'll go out of bounds.

That'll be another point for the Lakers as they tally to 20 in this third set.

Another match point here for the Huskies as they lead 24-20.

We will have Gia Waters back to serve for the Lakers.

Albers handles that.

Paige Wagner on the slide, she puts it away.

And that'll be it.

Huskies take the third set 25 to 20 and three sets to none in a quick sweep against the Lake Superior State Lakers.

Lakers put up a fight, but Huskies ultimately took over and were able to get it done.

First set was 25-19, second set 25-12, third set 25-20.

We'll be back after this with our superior player of the game.

As the Huskies take this sweep three to nothing, we'll be back with a superior player of the game after these messages on Mix93 WKMJ.

With the cooling nights fast approaching, my thoughts go to the sauna and all of the great sauna supplies we just got in its Swift hardware.

I also think about the weather stripping and those furnace filters.

Swift's has a great selection of both.

Thinking about putting my gardens to bed and putting that winterizer on the lawn too.

and I still have to fill those cracks in the driveway before I get the driveway sealer on.

Swift Hardware has all the fun to get all these fall projects finished.

Alright, now we'll do it for Michigan Tech volleyball here.

We're back with the Superior Player of the Game, sponsored by Superior National Bank.

As Michigan Tech picks up a victory over Lake State, moving the Huskies above 500 here in the overall GLIAC conference play.

This was an overall dominant match for the Huskies.

They led up a little bit in that third set, but they took over in that second set.

and our superior player of the game, sponsored by Superior National Bank, has to go to Paige Wagner.

I said it a couple times throughout the match, but Paige Wagner tallied eight kills on 17 swings.

She hit 353, but not only that, Paige Wagner also tallied three assists, an ace, a solo block, and four digs.

As a middle, getting all those stats is incredible.

Paige Wagner has shown

in her junior season that she is a dominating player and she can put a team on her back for only playing three rotations and take over a match.

All credit to Paige Wagner on that.

She gets our superior player of the game.

We also have to give some other credit to some other Huskies on the team.

Jacqueline Yancey on that right side.

She led the Huskies with 11 kills.

She hit 333 and she also tallyed two digs.

And not only that, but she took on a great passing, passing role in this set, in this match.

Jacqueline Yancey, if there's one thing you can count on from Jacqueline Yancey, it is a solid platform.

She is always going to pass well.

And if she doesn't, she bounces back from it really well.

So I got to give a shout out to her.

Shout out to Laney Knack.

She came in and took a big swing there in that second set.

And Reagan Leslie came in and took a swing there as well.

Rachel Zurich, of course.

A lower night for Rachel Zurich, but she still got 8 kills and hit 231.

So a great night overall for the Huskies.

I mean, total dominance there.

But I gotta give some shoutouts to some Lake Superior State players here.

Rachel Steele, she hit 417 for the Lakers.

That was incredible and Resoli tallied 12 kills.

So these Lakers put up a good fight, but ultimately the Huskies take the victory three sets to none against the Lake Superior State Lakers.

And we will take a quick break and we'll be back with Cindy Pindrell, head coach of the Michigan Tech Huskies.

We'll be back in about a minute with Cindy Pindrell on Mix 93 WKMJ.

Dylan a little bit iffy sometimes about her play and knowing that she can do better This whole season and you know by the casual observer you're like, what are you talking about?

But you know from her perspective She knows that she can do way better and she wants to do way better So I'm sure she's happy or at least with this with this little win here So hopefully we can build in that momentum.

But yeah, she had a great match tonight

Yeah, great thing about Paige is if she's not doing it in one category she's gonna do it in the next absolutely

One more thing, how important is first ball side out in matches like these, keeping them out of.

getting on runs.

Yeah, so important.

We want to be putting the ball away as fast as possible, try to save our bodies a little bit and try to just be as efficient as you can.

And that goes for any team regardless of the record of the team that you're playing.

So yeah, that's one thing that we work on all the time in practice.

We play plenty of drills where there's bonus points or incentives for finishing on the first ball, like putting it away the first time you have it and trying not to get so much into the transition stage.

Ironically, we are way more efficient in transition.

We're just trying to up our side out percentage in that first ball phase of the game, but I think we're doing a good job so far of doing that.

All right, Cindy, looking forward to tomorrow.

What do you got to do tomorrow to pull off that one?

Yeah, Purdue's record, I don't think reflects the tenacity of that team.

They played Parkside on Tuesday at home in a very, very tight match and they lost 13-15 in the fifth and Parkside is a quality team as well.

So I know Purdue doesn't have a win yet in Gliac play, but they are a dangerous team.

They beat us once last year on their home court.

So that's a dangerous team.

When they're on, they can be on.

So we have to be

way more diligent tomorrow.

We have to come with our A-game, absolutely.

That's a team that plays with super high energy.

They are really, really, really scrappy and they can go off on runs with attacking too.

They have some talented attackers.

So yeah, we're just going to have to bring our A-game tomorrow.

All right.

Thank you, Cindy.

Great.

Congratulations on the big win.

Thank you.

Huskies won this one three sets to none in this matchup against the Lakers.

They'll look forward to playing Purdue Northwest tomorrow at noon first serve and you guys can check back in in a little bit here for our Husky hockey pregame as puck trap is 707 for that game.

Again Husky volleyball takes the win three sets to none first set 25 19 second set 25 12 third set 25 20 Huskies take this win and add it to the tally sheet.
