Marty Richard is back for the Pine River report.
What do you know this week?
It's wet
It's really really wet.
That's it for the Pine River report.
That's it seal air folks drive safely Yeah, it's it's soggy.
So and the riverbanks are they're up.
So really honestly, you know, this is Thursday And we're still looking at Friday Saturday where the the water levels would be high the flow will be high Honestly, unless you're a white water
kayak or I would probably stay out of the pine.
The good news, it does help us out a little bit because when we get flooding, even minor flooding, sometimes it can erode some of those blockages we've been fighting against.
So that's not all completely bad news.
I would
probably tell most folks and trout fishermen are going to know this too.
The pine is probably not a friendly place to be.
It's going to be muddy.
It's going to take a little while for the riverbanks to come down.
Still raining as of today on Thursday.
So I really think with all of the events we have going on with Center Color Fest weekend, this weekend, and the colors on the trees are starting to really pop.
I think
We're probably going to advise that everybody stay off the river at this point.
Now, we did have before this rain and before the river banks went up, we did have some real adventurous kayakers who were very experienced that had gone down through from Rockbridge down to Bowens Mill.
And they said there were probably two or three blockages.
They had to portage around, but they were warned ahead of time.
They knew it was going to be difficult and they enjoyed it.
So really.
Unless you are very experienced and you know that you're in for a bit of an adventure, I would stay off the pine this weekend.
Well, plenty of things to do.
Where do you start this weekend?
Well, yeah.
Where do you start?
There's a lot happening.
Now on Friday, we had questioned this when I was on earlier on the morning show with you.
But yes, the 80 German warehouse, they do have live music on October 2nd, Friday, kind of kicking things off with Tim Eddy.
And so he'll be playing at the lounge in the 80 German warehouse from five o'clock to eight o'clock this Friday.
So I'd say, go ahead, enjoy that music.
And then also wheels of time.
The truck contractor show at the Richland County Fairground starts on Friday and I've all you know I was out there yesterday
on Wednesday, and the Alice Chalmers are already showing up.
They're representing.
They will represent.
And I met the Durst boys driving more there yesterday after I had been out there.
So I think you'll have an impressive Alice Chalmers display.
So that runs.
The Wheels of Time Truck and Tractor show runs at the Fairgrounds Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
So you'll get a chance.
They also have a tractor ride that you'll be able to get a good look at.
I believe that Saturday morning.
if I remember correctly.
Again, everything I'm telling you you can find at greater richlandtourism.com Just go to our calendar of events then again on Saturday during the day the friendship quilters guild their quilt show is at Schmidt Woodland Hills from 10 to 4 and then they do that again on Sunday 10 to 3 Then awkward fruit farm has their customer appreciation days.
I was just up with Judy yesterday She said we've had at least 40 of these so for 40
40 years.
It started in the 80s, she said.
And I said, I don't remember that.
I was too young then.
But yeah, anyway.
So you can go up to Oakwood Fruit Farm this weekend for specials.
And I know they're doing a buy one, get one on a specific variety of their apples that I cannot remember.
But they have lots of apples.
It's been a good growing season.
The UW Richland Alumni Association has their fall brunch, and they'll be honoring five outstanding alumni, and they do ask for pre-registration.
Again, go to our calendar of events for that information.
Wild Hills Winery has their grape stomp and their festival.
They've got live music.
They'll have their wood-fired pizzas and some vendor displays.
That runs from 12 to 7, but then the really big show kicks off.
On Saturday night, there's two big activities.
The one that's kind of big is the Richland Center Canyon of Lights Parade.
That steps off at seven o'clock.
I know we have a lot of entries for that.
There's still time for those to register that would like to register.
But it's well registered.
There are gonna be a lot of entries.
But the truly big show, those were the days, the live radio show at the City Auditorium.
Phil, you're going to appear on the same stage as Houdini.
I know it.
And
Liberace and
maybe not dressed as fine as Liberace, but that's a challenge for you.
Who knew who were better, Liberace or
Phil?
You
know, I don't
know.
He had a brother, George.
Yeah, that's my brother, George.
Right.
Exactly.
Yeah.
And that's from six to nine.
And so there's I know you've got some surprises and some really cool stuff happening there.
And then on Sunday, there's kind of
wrap up with a lot of the events that are happening on Sunday, but also don't forget on Sunday, the 80 German warehouse has their tours on Sunday.
And I challenge locals to check that out, because it is very interesting.
And I know there's a lot of folks that have not been in the 80 German warehouse that are locals.
And just a reminder, a greater Richmond tourism, of course, is helping bring a lot of those events in the parade, but also neighborhood housing services and South
cap.
They are big sponsors helping to bring all of the events and the parade and everything to you.
So a lot going on this weekend.
I'd stay out of the river, stay dry.
The weather's supposed to be great.
Yes.
Actually, the weather will be good.
It's just going to take a while for the river to settle down.
No doubt about it.
And it's going to be a good weekend in Lyme Ridge as well, I think, isn't it?
It's
always a great weekend in Lyme Ridge.
So yeah, Lyme Ridge, at the branding iron, I encourage you to get up there for the fish fry on Friday night, regular menu all the other times.
I believe they still have the special Scortino sausage.
sandwich.
Last night they still had them.
So I expect they'll still have that available.
That's really good.
But also then their own farm raised beef burgers and the regular menu on Saturday and Thursday night.
Just a just a great fish fry.
I have gotten a lot of feedback from that that they're like, you know, you were right on one thing in your life and their fish fry is very good.
And how about a shout out to John Saltweedle 80 years at Saltweedle store and
Yep, that's they're doing.
Thank you for the reminder on that.
Jeffrey even won't have to come to my house and straighten me out.
You don't want that.
I don't.
That's that's a rough, rough thing.
John Saltweedle and his family, they have owned the store for 80 years.
And there are only been two owners of that store in its existence.
And it was the Saltweedle stores it's known now was originally started by
Everett Lee, who is the namesake for Lee Lake.
So that store has been there since almost like about 1920, I believe was when it was originally started.
And then the Salt Weedle family bought it and has operated for 80 years.
So they're having a really nice block party on Saturday afternoon.
You can head up, they're providing the pork.
They ask you just a goodwill offering to cover that.
And then they'll have beverages for sale.
They ask you bring a potluck item, just a side meal or a side food of some sort of salad or potatoes or something to share.
So it sounds like a really good time in CAS and the weather for all of the events sounds like it'll be great.
Wonderful.
Good to see you, Marty.
You bet, Phil.
Thank you.
