Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, guest hosts on what marks a dark day for our democracy. Indeed, this is a dark day for all those who believe in the right of We the People to self governance. Because on this day, our President demonstrated his alignment not with the will of the People but with the oligarchs and autocracy of Russia. President Zelensky of Ukraine met with our nation's President and Vice President to negotiate and sign a deal today exchanging Ukraine's natural resources for our support in Ukraine's existential struggle against Russia. Instead, our chief executives berated, belittled, and bullied the leader of a sovereign democratic nation. And the groups parted without committing to a deal. A dark day indeed.

Still, we end the day with something good. As difficult as it is to summon up anything good to share, that itself marks the importance of doing so. On dark days like today, we must- MUST- resist the temptation to fall into despair. For celebrating love, light, and human connection is itself a form of resistance to the darkest intentions of authoritarianism.
