Now live from the civic media studios in Madison, Wisconsin, where the political party is just
beginning, welcome to the devil's advocates radio show.
Friends proving it's never personal, only politics.
Now here's your host, Dom and Crute.
Welcome to the devil's advocates radio show.
I am your singular host today, Dom.
Crute is still out hanging out on the left as coast, you know, probably getting more socialist
communist Marxist, you know, how it goes over in California, Nate working the board and
the sound.
Thank you very much, Nate.
Of course, our fair audience.
Thank you for tuning in.
Joining the devil's advocates, it is a political party.
That's what we do.
I have some fun here.
You can always join in the fun at 844-967-2789.
Lots and lots and lots of breaking in port news today, not only here in the state of Wisconsin,
certainly across the country, but let's start in the back yard.
It's voting day today, folks.
Did you know that here in the state of Wisconsin, about 300 municipalities, you can go vote.
And I got to tell you, I was a little bummed out today.
As some of you may have known, my kids off to college, empty nesters, definitely decided
to sell the house, move into a condo and, you know, live the good life.
No lawn care, working about the maintenance on the house, all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, so we closed and we moved and it's been very hectic.
And one of the things I failed to do was re-write the story of vote.
I mean, I can literally, I am in the city of Milwaukee today, in the city of Milwaukee.
Here's a primary for the mayoral, mayoral contest, Cavalier Johnson, I believe my guys
who I would vote for, but unfortunately yours truly, I failed to do my civic duty and my
part and register to vote in the new crib.
I thought, well, how last minute, I mean, this is easy, right?
This is living a computer age, how hard can it possibly be?
Well, I'll head, dig up my license and put my license number in, punch the numbers,
put my address in, and oh, yeah, then I had to get something on paper that says my address,
my new address and bring it to go register.
Unfortunately, I don't have that.
Everything's online, like the wee energies in this particular case, my wife, Stephanie set
it up.
She was out walking my nephew dog this morning, so she couldn't be there to help me
log in to the new WWE Wisconsin energies website to, you know, what print out a form that
would probably what have my wife's name on it anyway.
So unfortunately, I yours truly, as much as we complain and prod and promote and say,
get out there and do your duty, go for, I gotta be honest with you folks, I didn't do
it.
So please make up for me, get out and vote, polls are open, make it happen.
It's a primary, about 300 municipalities in the state of Wisconsin, out of over 1800.
So not everyone, a minority out there voting, but make it happen, be involved, do your part.
I'm doing my part to remind you, and oh, yeah, if you moved, it might be too late, but
you can still go through the process, show up with utility bill, your license, and you
should be good to go.
So sorry about that folks, you know how it goes, do as I say, not as I do, as I tell my kids
anyway.
I am not a role model, eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine.
Ah, somebody, someone's going to run against Tammy Baldwin, it is official, Eric Houghdie,
the man who lost one time before two senator, Tammy Baldwin has decided, and we knew this
was coming, he's decided to jump into it again.
And we have lots of reporting on this, I believe, and we have some from locally, the Milwaukee
General Sentinel, our pals, over there, who we got here.
It is, just to your point, Lawrence, Andrea, they report on this as well, but I was digging
around.
I'm like, well, national review, the conservative publication, I figured, well, I haven't
used up all my clicks on the free articles yet.
What are they saying?
What's the right saying about this candidacy, Audrey Baulberg reporting, National Republicans
have insisted for months that they have a top tier Senate candidate on deck to take
on two term democratic incumbent Tammy Baldwin in November, as of this afternoon, he is finally,
finally in the race.
So Crudy will tell you, he's seen a billboard up for this guy for a month.
So this is not anything new, but we do have a little sound, we got the announcement,
the big announcement from Houghdie announcing he's going to take on Wisconsin's Tammy Baldwin.
But Nate, as you notice in here, he doesn't say the word was Wisconsin at all.
I mean, it seems a little strange, maybe because he lives in California.
Let's hear what Houghdie had to say, please.
Do you feel like America is slipping away?
Our country is facing enormous challenges, our economy, our healthcare, crime, and open
borders.
Everything is going in the wrong direction.
All Washington does is divide us and talk about who's to blame, and nothing gets done.
That's not the country I know and love.
I'm Eric Houghdie.
I'm running for the US Senate, and I approved this message because I believe we need to
come together and find common sense solutions to restore America.
What about Wisconsin, man?
As you're running in Wisconsin, and you know, listen, the health care and some of the items
you listed, well, what would you do about healthcare?
How do you feel about Medicare for all of you?
Don't want that.
You just want to keep sticking it to everybody.
Washington review goes on to say his announcement comes more than a decade after he ran unsuccessfully
for his party's nomination in 2012.
I guess former Republican governor Tommy Thompson, who then lost the Tammy ball, Tammy ball
went in the general.
All right.
So he didn't lose the Tammy initial lost to Tommy, who then lost to Tammy, but he's this
time around.
He has a number of experienced Republican operatives at the ready as national review noted earlier
this month.
And it's prepared to dip deep into his pockets to fund his campaign.
Oh, yeah.
That's what we Republicans really, really love about their candidates is when they come
with a checkbook showed hubby secured the GOP nomination.
He will face an uphill battle against Baldwin Democrats working to reelect her have
spent several months preparing for hubby's launch and plan to spend the entire cycle characterizing
him as an out of touch business man who owns a bank in multimillion dollar home in Southern
California.
And even though Baldwin votes with Biden more than 95% of the time Republicans will
readily admit she's a talented fundraiser who has learned how to portray herself to
voters as a moderate.
She's well attuned to the quirks of her state working with Republicans to urge the FDI FDA
to enforce stricter labeling requirements for imitation dairy products and remove the
gray wolf from the endangered species list in a number of states like Wisconsin where wolves
often kill farmers livestock.
She works hard.
She's got a big war chest former Wisconsin governor, Scott Walker, president of the conservative
youth organization, young America's foundation.
Pretty always gets that wrong.
Walker told the dispatch over the summer, Walker, even though she's liberal, even though
she's liberal, she's got a persona in the state of Wisconsin that's either neutral or
kind of positive.
Not that that matches her voting record, but as we all know, perception is reality often
times in these races.
Wow.
Well, what's the persona of governor, former governor, Scott Walker these days, you think?
Is it neutral or kind of positive?
I don't think so.
Still, a national review goes on Republicans insist that Baldwin's poor approval rating
in Wisconsin will drag her down in the past week alone or Republican sources have separately
referenced the new market law school poll of registered voters conducted in late January.
Charles was on the show after that, showing Biden and his likely 2024 arrival, Donald Trump
tied and head to head in Wisconsin.
They stayed Biden narrowly carried in 2020, the same survey shows Baldwin favorability
rating at 42%.
Wisconsin's UP chairman, Brian Shimming, radio dogs, Brian believes Baldwin is in worse
shape than former Democratic Senator Russ Feingold was ahead of his surprising 2010 loss
against Republican Ron Johnson, then a little known plastic company executive from Oshkosh
, Wisconsin.
She can raise money at will.
I don't have any illusions about that.
Shimming said in an interview, a Baldwin's roughly $8 million on hand as of January
1, he goes on to say, but I think there's been a misnomer for a long time that this race
is unwinnable supposedly because of her incumbent strengths.
That is not born out in the market poll number one, he continued number two, she's a 95%
vote with Joe Biden in a state where Joe Biden, not unlike other states, is in a lot of trouble.
National Republicans are hoping that hope these deep pockets will put Wisconsin on the map
while allowing them to keep their main focus on must win Democratic health backgrounds
that Trump carried handily in 2020.
Now that West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin's retirement has put the mountain
state firmly in the red column outside Republican spending groups are expected to follow
most of their resources into sending Democratic incumbents packing in Ohio and Montana.
Their job just got easier this week when Republican representative Matt Rosendale,
Senate Republicans unsuccessful Montana Senate nominee in 2018, and I'll see what suspend
his bid for US Senate after just one week in the race, almost like the Republicans are
disarray.
Complicating Rosendale's path to the nomination was the decision by Trump just hours after
Rosendale's Senate announcement to publicly endorse his then primary opponent, Tim Sheehee.
Now back to hubby's hoping he can coast to victory in his state's August primary as other
Republicans, namely Franklin businessman Scott Mayer and former Milwaukee County Sheriff
David Eklary Jr., continue to float perspective runs. Mayor told N.R., that's the national review,
that's the source of this article, he told National Review last week that the N.R.S. C's decision
to rally beyond hubby will have no bearing on whether he whether or not he jumps into the primary,
but he also walked back comments he made earlier in the week in an annual Milwaukee General
Sentinel in which he suggested he's already hired staff or assumed the launch campaign.
I have people lined up ready to go and the event that I run, I wouldn't hire anyone
until I have an actual campaign. Forces in hubby's orbit have begun to send signals that Mayor ought
to think twice before throwing his hat in the ring, a quote from a national Republicans strategist.
Republicans have lined up tens of millions of dollars to destroy Scott Mayer if he continues
down this path. Audrey Faulberg reporting. So there we go folks, consider it on. It is on.
Eric hubby coming with his own bank, coming with the N.R.S. C's bank, coming for your bank.
Oh, he has the bank. This guy's got banks in California. He's got a lot of money. He's got lots of
resources behind him. Tammy Baldwin. He's got a lot of love from the devil's advocates.
You don't need a lot of your help as well. You know, these topics, what is he going to bring?
When you talk about health care, what does that mean about, you know, abortion? Where do you think
he's at? Well, you know where he's at. He's just another Republican pushing the Republican talking
points. Uh, it is going to be going to be a fight. I think it's going to be a battle with those
kinds of resources. Uh, Joe Biden's, you know, Donald Trump had to head. We'll see what happens.
Obviously, Trump has his own headwinds. Not that that could maintain the 50-50 split on a real
challenge between Trump and Biden here. But hubby versus Baldwin, it's odd. Come back. Your thoughts,
844-967-2789.
I don't know if you know the devil's advocates, but the show is kind of a big deal.
I'm a radio. I was trained. I'm live. I'm a radio. I'm a radio. I was trained. I live.
Oh, yeah. Come on. I'm telling you about it. Oh, yeah.
You're here. Come on, 24-20. Great. Thank you for listening to the devil inscrevekiv radio show.
You can join us on the lines of the 444-967-2789B patient. We'll get you shortly. As mentioned in the
first segment, Republican Eric Hubby. He is running or Senate in the Great State of Wisconsin. Although
he doesn't mention the state of Wisconsin, at least in the clip that we played,
but I got to tell you, I got a text from Tammy. Tammy's got my number. Here's what she said.
Hi, folks. Tammy Baldwin with some bad news. Republican mega-millionaire, like how she does that
mega. That's MEGA, but it should be M-AGA. Republican mega-millionaire, Eric Hubby,
just launched his campaign to defeat me. He's a major threat to Wisconsinites and our Senate
majority. Here's why a couple of bullet points, where folks, Eric Hubby is an out-of-state,
out-of-touch mega-millionaire, California bank owner with far-right views. Hubby is an anti-abortion
extremist who would enable Senate Republicans to pass a nationwide abortion ban. And Hubby
supports raising taxes on working families. An absolutely quote-unquote wants to cut seniors
hard earned benefits like social security. What concerns our team right now is that Hubby has a
virtually unlimited campaign war chest pledging to spend at least 20 million of his fortune
to flip this seat red and secure the Senate majority for Republicans. We're counting on a massive
response from grassroots teams to fight back. Will you rush your donation today? And pardon me,
and sends a link to the act blue. So we got the fundraising email from Tammy. We got the announcement
from Hubby, although he doesn't mention the great state of Wisconsin, the clip that we have.
And so it is on, what do you think? 844-967-2789-20 million dollars. I mean, what they say,
Tammy has like 8 million on hand and he's ready to bring in of 20 of his own plus the NRSC's money.
That's going to state of Wisconsin. Here we go again. Steven, from Green Bay, you are up. Welcome.
Happy Tuesday. Steven, what do you got for us?
Hello, Steve. Here you go.
Hello. First thing for our first order of business, I have to take care of before I do anything else.
Is what the heck are you doing, Dom? Not voting? One of the people that are on here constantly saying
you've got to go out and do your civic duty and vote. And you dropped the vote.
I know. I'm sorry, man. It's terrible. I listen. I made the effort.
I would, I tried and I just couldn't get it done, man. So you got to go vote for me and do your part
and bring someone else. I'm doing my part now by encouraging other people to don't make the same
mistake I did. See? Well, I got some good news for you, Dom. I was out this morning at 10 o'clock
this morning voting. Excellent. I'm a little bit of an overachiever when it comes to voting.
I was already two weeks ago on my vote, Wisconsin.gov, making sure I registered and that they didn't
try to throw me off the roll because you know I'm a dumb and those Republicans, they like throwing
us dumbs off the rolls. But anyways, with a hair, air cuff, D thing. Really, Republicans,
this is the best you can do is a guy from California. Come on. I mean, Tammy Baldwin,
this should be an easy win for her if he is the only one that ends up running because this is
just another 10 Michaels all over again is what it feels like to me. Yeah, it really does. And
you know, the Michael thing, I mean, what a terrible candidate. I mean, it's one thing and I get it,
you know, people have different political beliefs on healthcare and abortion and all those kinds of
things. Okay, we can absolutely disagree on that regard, which I mean, the guy came out and literally
called Wisconsin citizens lazy because what? Because some people cast a COVID check and then he had
a quick qualify. Well, I know that it's over now, but what? The laziness continues like a cold.
I wasn't quite clear on on that. So, you know, and the guy Steven didn't even mention
Wisconsin, at least on the clip that we have access to that he says that I'm running for a
Senate not like I'm a running for Senate in the badger state. You know what I mean? It was so
general you don't really know where he's running Steven. So do you think he's going to have the same
well, you know, working problems as as Michaels did. You know, now this is what I have to say,
Republicans have have shown us a pattern. And I've learned in my life, when someone does something
over and over again, I have no reason to think they're going to do anything different. And the
Republicans are real good about smooth talking and making themselves sound real good. And then they
get into office and they do things like gavelin and gavel out and don't do a darn thing for the
people of the state. And so I'm I'm really sick and tired of that really as a voter. And I'm not
going to vote somebody ends that's going to do absolutely nothing for me. That's a pointless vote
at that point. So I think more people need to think that way voting for Republicans you're basically
throwing your ballot in the trash at this point because you're not going to do anything for you.
Yes, Steven. Thanks for the call, man. They will do something. I mean, what do they always do?
You know, tax cuts, baby. It's I mean, the Republicans one answer for everything is tax cuts.
You have irritable bowel syndrome. Well, Republicans will offer you tax cuts.
Got a compound fracture. Don't worry. Republicans will give you tax cuts. How those
potholes of the scottles they call them when governor Walker was here, right? Oh, what are you
going to do? What are you going to do? Tax cuts. That's what they do. Tax cuts. And they're
literally like today, proposed like $2.1 billion in tax cuts. We get to that in a moment, 844,
967, 2789. I mentioned the article from Jesse Point Lawrence, Andrea, just a couple of paragraphs
here from the reporting of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Baldwin continued to fit. Let's see here.
Baldwin continued to campaign and fundraise as she waited for a big name Republican to enter the race.
She reported raising more than $3 million in the last quarter of 2023, more than $2.8 million
as she raised in the same period ahead of her successful 2018 campaign and began the year with
just over $8 million cash on hand. As they say, Baldwin is the rarity in Wisconsin current
political climate in a battleground state where most statewide contests are decided by a
razor thin margin. She doubled her victory margin from 2012 to 2018, defeating her GOP challenger
former state senator Leah Bootmer, Alia, by about 11 points. Hobby, a resident of Madison,
is a CEO of Madison based commercial and residential real estate company started by his grandfather.
He also leads two California based businesses, HBank Corp and his primary subsidiary, Sun West Bank.
Democrats have attacked him for his 2018 purchase of a $7 million hillside state Laguna Beach,
California, W.M. Eric Hubby, Republican Laguna Beach. Here is what Eric Wolk said from the
Democratic Party of Wisconsin. California bank owner, Eric Hubby is running for Senate to impose
his self-serving agenda, putting ultra rich people like himself ahead of middle class Wisconsin
ites. Hubby would vote to pass a national abortion ban, race taxes on working families and seniors
while cutting social security Medicare and repeal the Affordable Air Act. In a statement,
Senate, my majority packed spokeswoman, Hannah McClendon, referred to Hubby as an out of touch
hedge fund manager, who's built his career catering to millionaires and billionaires,
whose campaign does nothing but kickstart, will inevitably be another brutal battle to the mega
extreme. The race is rated lean Democrat by both the Cook political report with Amy Walter and
Sabatoza, Crystal Ball. When you see that kind of money though, it's going to be expensive and
it's going to be all over but there are very clear choices. Once again, you got mega or you got
normal dams. Tammy Baldwin's a normal dam. He works hard. She really does. She works hard for the state
to bring home the money. The great senator will look forward to her continuing in her seat. I'll
come back with some of your phone calls again, 844-967-2789. What do the Republicans do?
They like tax cuts and they set the $2.1 billion tax cut aimed at low and middle income earners
to Tony Evers. I resemble that remark. Let's get into it plus your calls, 844-967 party.
I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling devils advocates.
Yeah, thank you for listening to the meddling that devils advocates join us on the lines at 844-967-2789,
Republicans and the state of Wisconsin. Going to their favorite plan,
tax cuts, but apparently we do have some breaking news out there, Nate bringing it to us.
Nate, what do you got for us? Alexander, sure, over at the state journal here,
a new Republican prosecutor has asked the liberal controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court to weigh in
on the state's 1849 law that was widely interpreted as a near complete abortion ban.
Lower court said that the ban applied to feed aside not abortions.
So it looks like that the abortion case is heading to the Supreme Court.
Good luck with that Republican conservative. Is that the guy from Shaboygan?
Does it articulate who specifically brought it up, Nate?
Yes, it looks like that was a Shaboygan district attorney, Joel Irmansky filed the petition
earlier today. All right, there we go folks. Republicans keep and add it. Women, you don't get
your rights. They want their religion above your rights. So they're going to go to the liberal
Supreme Court and we'll see how that goes. 844-967-2789 as mentioned. Wisconsin Senate sends a 2.1 billion
dollars and tax cuts aimed at low-middle income earners to Tony Evers or bills if signed into law
would significantly expand the state's second lowest tax bracket to include more than 1 million
Wisconsin residents earning between 19,000 and 150,000 a year exempt up to $75,000 of retirees
income and expand tax credits for married filers and filers with children. All Democratic members of
the state Senate voted against the tax bracket adjustment and the credit expansion for married
filers. One Democrat joined Republicans in passing the retirement income exemption, the credit
expansion for filers with children passed with seven Democrats joining Republicans to pass it.
It's unclear whether Evers will sign the bill and that recent appearance on Wisconsin,
a W.I. sends up front. Evers indicated he might be willing to sign some of the bills in the law
but has not answered whether he supports specific proposals within the package. His quote,
I've been through all of them. I'm going to go through them again. I'm sure there's some we'd agree on.
The proposals Republicans authors have said the bills are designed to make Wisconsin
a more attractive place to live for families while when middle income earners and retirees.
Democratic lawmakers are questioned whether the bills are the best way to accomplish those goals.
Again, it's the Republicans. Tax cuts for everything. It doesn't matter what the goal is,
the solution, tax cuts. The reporting goes on altogether. The measures would cost $2.1 billion
in the 2425 fiscal year and 1.4 billion every year forward according to a nonpartisan analysis
from the LFB. The measures would reduce the state's total income tax revenue by $2 billion per year
for fiscal 2425 and 1.4 billion after that, according to the LFB, Wisconsin is projected to end the
2325 budget with a $4 billion surplus and $2 billion in its rainy day fund. Evers in 21 signed a
$2 billion tax cut in the state budget, but he and Republican lawmakers have largely failed to
find consensus on how to cut income taxes in the state since. Twice last year, Evers be
owed a GOP proposal to cut the income tax rate for the state's third tax bracket, which applies
to joint filers earning up to $405,000 a year. Evers said at the time he would not sign a law,
a sign into law, a tax cut for wealthy earners. Republicans have said that the new proposals were
crafted with Evers previous veto of messages in consideration. So some tax bracket changes,
some additional parts, some most of the dams voting against it, but if you go along on some of
the issues, I'll listen. The state as a general rule has more money than it needs. It should go back
to taxpayers, but generally, I think it should help lower the middle and income tax earners.
844-967-2789, what say you? Let's get back to the lines. Cam from Adina, Wisconsin. Welcome,
Cam. You're next. What do you got for us? Hey, I guess like it is constantly bears
that need to be said, that when you are looking at the Republican tool, are constantly just trying
to rattle up their bases for any conservative that is listening and also the media is not your
flavor. But ask yourself, have they talked about literally anything else except some very specific
issues, whether it's Hunter Biden or Trump or abortion? At this state's roads, I like Wisconsin.
I'm not from Wisconsin, but I like Wisconsin. But this state's roads need help. They are garbage.
I can't see it night. I have pretty decent vision. I can't see. It's a political issue in this
state for some reason. When your neighbor is like Minnesota, have fantastic roads. Michigan is
getting a little bit better as well. If you want tax cuts, then replace what tax income the state
is pulling in with other things like legalized marijuana and stop giving these big expensive
corporations the slaps on the wrist. They should be paying their fair share.
Yeah, no doubt, Cam. And of course, a lot of the revenue that we're lacking in the state of
Wisconsin across the country are from the corporate taxes, right? As a percentage of revenue corporate
income tax to the treasury has gone way, way down and rose. I mean, we need rose and it's one thing
to have expansion of the interstate and the highways. And that becomes a social issue given how
racist some of the highways were originally put in. So I can understand that part. But at the end
of the day, when you have the roads, they've got to be surfaced. You don't want to be blasted
tires out when you go on 60 miles an hour down a road. And certainly there are state roads and
city roads and all that that can be broken down. But listen, it's all in pre-structure and it all
needs to be maintained. And the winter is here, generally speaking, the fluctuations of the weather,
the freezing, the thawing and all that, especially even in this kind of weather. Hell, it's almost 50
degrees on February 20th, 2024 here in the state of Wisconsin. You kidding me? This is crazy.
But that is constantly moving. And some of the paddles you can almost see them breathing and growing
as time goes on. So yeah, some using some of the money that we have. Again, we don't,
I'm not down for a state just overtaxing this population and put money into a bank account. I mean,
if we're going to do that, then we should use that money for infrastructure for the general welfare
of the citizenry, right? That's what they say in the some important historical document I read
somewhere. And then to, and then to, if you're going to have tax cuts, have them targeted to where
it will do the most good, you know, folks on the blower and middle end of the income
statuses, I mean, they spend the money. The money comes in and it goes right out. Circulates
through the economy. If you got someone, I'm not saying that if you're a millionaire, you don't deserve
to keep some of your money, but most of those folks aren't going to have that money float through
the economy over and over again. It's going to go into an investment. It's going to go on top.
A trust who knows, right? It's not going to be spent from that checking account to buying goods
and services that people need to live as a general rule. So they should be targeted towards the
lower. And if the Republicans are trying to do that, Tony Evers evaluates that, then I think it
should be, it should be something that we should all aspire to. A little concern, some of the
Democrats weren't down for at least some of those issues. Perhaps the tax bracket change was too
broad for them. But then the day there is a surplus and it needs to be given back to the people
eight, four, four, nine, six, seven, two, seven, eight, nine. It just happens to be that this town,
the Republicans answer for the question might be right. What do we do for XYZ tax cuts? Cindy
from Appleton, you're next. Welcome, Cindy. What do you got for us? Well, I would just like to say
that I'm thinking this whole abortion thing that the Republicans are bringing forward now is
probably some kind of rules to take attention away from the lawsuit they're about to bring
against the Fairman. So you think it's still coming? I mean, I was talking to Nate before
they're showing me, hey, man, did we'll drop a lawsuit yet? Not yet. We haven't heard yet. So
you're still concerned about that, huh? Oh my God. You know, the Republicans are up to something.
And now that this abortion thing, they're going to bring to the liberal court. Really? It's just
sideline to get us all distracted so they can sneak in the $11 and file their lawsuit. You
mark my words. Oh, you know what? I'm going to prepare for the worst and hope for the best Cindy.
I'm with you. I'm literally waiting almost every day to see if we're right on this. And I hope
wrong. You know, I don't always want to be right because sometimes when we're right, that has
terrible consequences. So hopefully, hopefully we're wrong. We'll actually get some
a fair shot, some good maps that will be in place. Again, this governor Evers said he will ask
the Wisconsin Supreme Court to clarify that these maps can be used for any sort of special election
between now and when they're supposed to be implemented in the fall. But we will wait and see.
And I'm with you. I mean, what's what's the point here? I can't imagine that the quote-unquote
liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court is going to say, oh, you know, now that you've said it, you're right.
This is totally, this is absolutely about abortion, not a fantasy side. And we're going to rule with
you. I just don't see that happening. So yeah, obviously, when you hear the sound, don't look towards
the sound. Look the other way. See what's going on. Thank you for your call 844-967-27-89. Mark
from the sack. You're next. Welcome, sir. What do you got for us?
You know, thanks for taking my call. That I see Howard Markley is winding up on one of the districts
that stretches from Rickton Center to Madison. That I was kind of kind of rich,
considered Howard Markley. This is a few years ago, but as an accountant, you know, I never got my
CPA certificate. It hasn't, but I did take, you know, the courses in college on the whole ethics
thing. And Howard Markley routinely violated the ethics code by misstating the, you know, the
financial positions and financial state, you know, financial things, you know, further is it
relates to the state of Wisconsin. And in my opinion, you should have got a CPA certification
yanked back years ago because of his, you know, what I considered unethical behavior.
Well, I guess, you know, if we're talking about like the CAF report, the state of Wisconsin produces
their own reports, right? And you kind of can, especially when Scott Walker was in, I was,
we were looking at those things all the time because the guy said, well, I fixed a $3.6
billion budget deficit. Well, he never did that. It wasn't the thing. It was an aspirational
asset, includes some health care for public workers. Yeah, it's a long twisted story, but the end
of the day, no, Governor Scott Walker did not fix a $3.6 billion budget deficit.
And if he would have, if any human being could walk into a company or a governor's office,
and by the force of their will and their management, cure a $3.6 billion deficit,
that person would be the most sought after consultant in the history of consultants that didn't
happen. It did not happen, Scott Walker. Anyway, thanks, look all market 44, 967, 279. I never
want to look at another CAF report in my life. That amount of day from Duluth, you're up, welcome,
what are you got for us? Okay, Governor Dom, thank you for taking my call.
You've got a little, I don't have an answer to it, but here's a little for you. Why is it that
these policing and back these Republican candidates, but they don't, those Republican candidates
don't do anything about the weapons that these people have. You know, we have to treasure
here in Bernsville, Minnesota this past weekend. We're too obsolete. And if I don't get it,
why is it that they always support, you know, Republican, their unions, and not the ones that,
the party that would try to take, or at least, you know, kind of restrict the fact that
weaponry people can buy, etc. If you have a dress and violence, you know, that's a tough one,
Dave. I don't have an answer for you. Obviously, a couple of things. You think
traditionally, I'm talking because these are not traditional times, Dave, Republicans would
consider themselves the law and order party, right? And those Democrats, they want to go too easy
on the perpetrators of crime. Well, I don't buy that. I think it's not so cut and dry.
And to your point that Bernsville, I had a buddy that grew up in Bernsville, Maneson, as I heard
that, you know, a domestic incident, a guy enough killing two cops and an EMT to my understanding,
three people dead. And I believe the gunmen also dead. Oh, a terrible circumstance. So you
kid me. This is the, here we go, mass shootings. It was like America's favorite pastime. It's not
the NFL. It's mass shootings. And here we go again, you would think just based on wanting their
officers to be safe, to not have weapons of war on the streets. And I'm a gun owner, Dave.
You know, but I'm not, I'm not an AR 15 owner. You know, I got, I got some guns, but I'm not that.
Now, those are legal. You can get them. You can get them right now. And those things are not
for defenseless or offensive weapons. And they lay stuff down down range.
One of defensive weapon gets yourself a shotgun. But Dave, there's lots of dynamics in that,
but I don't, I don't see that the Republican Party can claim the mantle of law and order,
given who their mega leader is. I just don't buy it. And we see the National Lifeful
Association, the NRA. I mean, what a disaster. Wayne Loppier results, spilling the beans on
other, it was just a grift, you know, it's just terrible. And the foreign money that apparently
went into the NRA. I mean, man, I don't know how it gets Dave. Everything gets a little twisted
up, but I would love to see a law enforcement, you know, back some gun safety laws in this country.
Thanks for all folks. Really double-static. It's coming back for your calls 844-96 party.
Thank you, you know, politics. Thank you again. Welcome to the Devil's Advocates.
Thank you for listening to the Devil's Advocates Radio Show. Love it when you join 844-967-2789. That is
the political party. You can join it any time. I want to get this one out there before we move
on to the national topics and there's plenty of those today as well. Isaiah Holmes writing in the
Wisconsin Examiner, voting rights advocates gathered at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society
in Milwaukee and Monday night calling for the resignation of Robert Spindell. Remember that name,
Robert Spindell. A conservative member of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, controversy
has lingered around Spindell who, after the 2022 election, celebrated. He celebrated a decline
in turnout in the city's black and Latino neighborhoods as a benefit to Republican candidates.
Earlier this month, Spindell attempted to brush back criticisms from members of all voting
as local and the Wisconsin democracy campaign saying, there is no white Republican who has done more
for the black community than me. I mean, anytime you got a white guy saying something like that,
you know it's just terrible. Just don't do that. You know what I mean? Anyway, Wisconsin's
number goes on. Spindell's comments and his association as one of the 10 Wisconsin Republicans
who submitted false electoral ballots for formal president Donald Trump after he lost Wisconsin,
led voting rights groups in Wisconsin to call for Spindell's resignation on Monday evening,
a crowd. Several dozen joined organizers from souls of the polls, black leaders organizing
communities, black, post-acela frontera, and African-American roundtable and others to repeat
the demands. A quote from Reverend Greg Lewis, executive director of souls of the polls.
We are here today because we believe that a guy who goes around bragging about keeping you
from expressing yourself in our politics should be gone if he works for the state elections commission.
What kind of warm would work for the state elections commission and then come to my community
and tell my folks not to vote? What kind of warm would do something like that? It's dirty,
it's underhanded, and we're not going to put up with that anymore.
In an election cycle where activists warn that Trump threatens to install a dictatorship,
if he's returned to the White House, Lewis feels the vote is the most powerful tool for minority
communities, another quote. I have a vote, and the vote is the most democratic weapon we have.
It is the most neutralizing weapon we have for folks who really have powerful resources.
The vote is the greatest of all equalizers. Protecting the integrity of the vote was at the
forefront of conversation Monday evening. In December, as part of a settlement agreement, Spindell,
remember this, we talked about this briefly yesterday. In December, as part of a settlement agreement,
Robert Spindell and the other nine Trump fake electors think Andrew hit who was on the 60 minutes.
Didn't see that. Listen to that. Listen to yesterday's podcast. Spindell hit and the other eight
Trump fake electors were required to acknowledge Biden won the 2020 election,
retract all their filings and not take part in the 2024 election cycle as the electors,
nor any other election where Trump is on the ballot, despite facing dozens of criminal charges as
well as losing civil lawsuits, totaling hundreds of millions of dollars,
Trump remains the front runner in a contest for the Republican presidential nomination later this
year. Our friend, Christine Newman Ortiz, executive director of the state of LaFrontera said this,
we know that one press conference isn't going to do it, but we know that a sustained effort does.
Newman Ortiz painted Spindell as antithetical to any spirit of election integrity,
fairness or inclusiveness due to the statements he's made and to his proximity to a wider
effort to disenfranchise black and Hispanic voters. The fact that he has openly acknowledged through
his settlement that he was involved in part of the legal strategy to steal the elections as a fake
elector. This guy has no place on the elections commission said Newman Ortiz. Each of the speakers
Monday evenings shared the same settlement. Yeah, we share it same settlement here in the devil's
advocates. Karine Rosen, state director of Wisconsin working families party, so that Wisconsin
is deserved to know that their votes count, they quote from Rosen. We have the right to make sure
that our elections are fair, that they are free from harassment, and they are honest. Commissioner
Spindell needs to be removed from the Wisconsin elections commission now. His support for fake
electors was an attack on all of our democratic rights, and he cannot be trusted to run our elections
fairly. Another friend of ours, Angela Lang, executive director of black, recalled calling
for Spindell's removal over a year ago. His role is to uphold democracy and the integrity of our
elections, his actions say otherwise. And if these two things aren't enough, this man keeps playing
in our face. Lang questioned what Spindell has done for the black community to justify
anointing himself as a white Republican who's done more for the black community than any other.
Lang said that community organizers will match Spindell's boldness. Our communities deserve better
and we won't stop until he's gone. Former lieutenant governor Mandela Barnes, who's a president
of power to the polls also appeared at the Monday night event, his quote, the right to vote,
the right to organize the right to make our voices heard, our perhaps our most fundamental rights,
the right to have free and fair elections, where whether we win or lose, we accept the will of
the voters and we uphold our democracy. Over the last couple of years, Barnes said he's worked
with people who struggled towards that vision and witnessed the result of the efforts to thwart it.
He brought up a short documentary that aired Sunday at 60 minutes, focusing on the fake
elector plot in Wisconsin. Hey, we talked about that yesterday, Nate. One of the fake electors
attorney and former chair of the state Republican Party, Andrew Hitt said he feared for his life.
Feared for his family safety, pardon me, from Trump supporters if he did not take part in the plan.
Here's what Barnes said. Well, if you are supporting a person who's putting your family in
jeopardy, that means you have lost all sense of respect, all sense of who you are. I would never
campaign if somebody's putting my family's life in jeopardy. These people will stop at nothing
to maintain power, to keep people down, to keep up his voter suppression and keep fighting
against working families and working people. And that's why we got to show up together, like we've
never shown up before. They are homes writing out there Wisconsin examiner, 40 and lots of
our friends and people that we respect. Spendel, the brass of this guy, the savior, no one's done
anything more for the black community than Robert Spendel. When you ever hear someone talk like that
automatically, you tune them up, because that's a bunch of fun. But not only that, not only is he up,
but I would consider it as a racist, ignorant statement to make. The guy also tried to overturn
the election. They signed a separate agreement saying they did. That's what they did. And he remains
on the Wisconsin's election commission. How is that even possible?
Oh, so we need to do better. Guess what? Help if I actually got my ducks in a row and got registered
to vote. Go there and vote. Don't listen to me when I don't do it. Tell you when I do do it.
Thank you for listening. We're the devil's average advocates. We're going to come back in the next
hour. Got some money getting spent around infrastructure week. It's a infrastructure week.
Price President Kamala Harris talking on that. Got a Washington Post opinion piece.
I'm funny Willis. Got to support the women in this world. And more of your calls.
Lots to talk about. The Nashville Nazis. How hard is it to say Nazis are bad? We'll say it next
statement. Come back 844-967-2789.
