When an artist records a song that was a previous success for another artist, it is called a cover song. In most cases, it is hard to top the original, but in a few instances, the newer version is better. During Those Were the Days on WRCO Saturday night, I will take a look at a few of the famous remakes. In the case of You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling by Daryl Hall and John Oates, I feel that version is better than the Righteous Brothers original. Hooked On a Feeling was originally recorded by B.J. Thomas. The Blue Suede version is catchy, but I feel not as good as the earlier rendition. I will debate a few of those during a segment of this Saturday nights show.

1973 is still one of my favorite music years. It was a great year to fully embrace my music collecting habit. During this Saturday night’s show, I will remember some my favorite songs from that year that still take me back to my former self. Music was so much fun with country, hard rock, soft rock, and r & b sharing the airwaves on the same stations.

We will not be taking your requests on Saturday night. I will be taking part in a Civic Media engagement. Next Saturday night the regular features of WRCO’s Those Were the Days will return with trivia, requests, and nonsense. There will be lots of fun stuff on the air on this weekend’s show. I hope you will tune in.

Phil
