As the new year hit forty years ago, I was busy as the lowly chore boy during the day and late at night Aubrey Corners best mobile d.j. (I was the only one that lived there). My portion of the milk check would be deposited at the Music Shop in Richland Center for the newest music. Someday I may write a book about the things that I witnessed during those late nights at the bars, ball parks and high school gyms. It was an education for a country boy. Timing is everything and one night I ducked to look for a record as a snowmobile helmet whizzed past and hit the beer cooler breaking the glass doors. The helmet was intended for someone else, but the thrower was a poor shot. I made shock absorbers for my turntables so the records would not skip when dancing fools got to close to the d.j. stand. I earned my forty dollars per night (on New Years eve I could double that but had to play all night)! Some of the hot records I played on those cold January nights in 1985 include, I Would Die 4 U-Prince, Hello Again-Cars, Neutron Dance-Pointer Sisters, Jungle Love-The Time, You’re the Inspiration-Chicago, I Feel for You-Chaka Khan, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go-Wham, I Want to Know What Love Is-Foreigner, Knocking at Your Back Door-Deep Purple, and The Heat is On-Glenn Frey.

This Saturday night I will be playing some hot hits from those frosty January nights of 1985 and the request/text line will be open for song suggestions. The trivia bell will be ringing whenever there is another question and your chance to win prizes happens all night. Between six and midnight on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com or the Civic Media app. Thanks for all of the teams and listeners that were a part of the New Years Eve Triviathon. It was a real blast. Congratulations to the winning team, Not a Clue! They obviously had a clue or two.
