It has been a very dark time in our country’s history. Every time we turn on the news or scroll through social media, we are reading more stories of acts of violence against one another, many of those acts fueled by political differences. The governor of Utah just gave a speech today where he discussed political violence, and how this will likely be seen as a turning point in our history. The question remains, will we escalate the situation or find an off-ramp?

It is OK for us to have differences. It is OK for some of us to believe in something that other people do not. There’s an old saying, “Variety is the spice of life.” This is true in so many ways. Whether you are talking about race, religion, family values, politics, or even what type of car you drive! Imagine how boring this world would be if every single one of us was exactly the same. At the end of the day, almost every one of us wants the same thing. We want good health, happiness, great relationships with friends and family, and comfort in our lives. We can get there. But it takes every single one of us to put aside our differences, respect one another, and work together to create the world we want to leave to our children and future generations.
Let’s not escalate any further. Let’s take the off-ramp and find peace and understanding.
