Phyl Ida was born on April 12th, 1933 to Rev. Joseph Mason and Susanna (Thomas) Mason in
Taylor Pennsylvania. After the unexpected death of her mother Susanna, Phyl would help raise her
younger sister Mary Lou. Later the family would move to Wisconsin where Phyl would eventually
meet her future husband John while in High School in Augusta WI. Upon graduation Phyl and John
would marry and later move to Milwaukee WI, where they would raise their three children.
Phyl lived a full and faithful life. Phyl was a devoted wife and a loving mom who enjoyed staying
home to raise her three children. She was also a foster mother to many infants’ awaiting adoption in
Milwaukee County and provided childcare for children whose parents were working. Later in life Phyl
took a part-time job at Penny’s where she enjoyed interacting with shoppers and her fellow workers.
During her years in Milwaukee Phyl, and her husband John, were active in two church families,
Brookfield Assembly of God and Word is God Worship Center, attending worship at each church
every Sunday. As members of these two congregations Phyl and her husband led many bible
studies and fellowship gatherings in their home for church members.
In retirement, Phyl and her husband John were able to do some traveling in the United States but
unfortunately their hope of traveling was cut short when her husband John was diagnosed with
cancer. Phyl was a compassionate and attentive care giver for her husband John and was by his
side when he died.
Phyl lived in Milwaukee for over 50 years but eventually would move to Country Terrace Assisted
Living in Woodruff WI to be closer to her son Michael. At Country Terrace Phyl received excellent
care and enjoyed the wonderful fellowship that she formed with the other residents and staff. Phyl
died peacefully at Country Terrace with her son Michael by her side.
Besides her faith and love for God and family Phyl will be remembered for her sense of humor, her
fun and active lifestyle, her love of music and dogs, gardening and baking homemade bread,
gathering with friends and family and her devotion for the Green Bay Packers.
Phyl was proceeded in death by her parents Rev. Joesph and Susanne Mason, her husband John
Ida, her brothers Joe and Tom Mason, a sister-in-law Phyl Mason, a son in law Kim Weigelt and a
brother- in- law Richard Gillgren.
She is survived by her sons Rev. Michael and his wife Bonnie Ida, Kurt and his wife Heidi Ida, and
her daughter Sherry Weigelt. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul, Kyle, Marie, Tyler,
Josh, Heather, Samantha, Michele and Rob, her sister Mary Lou Gillgren, 8 great grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews and friends.
