Our theme on this Saturday nights Those Were the Days radio program will be ‘train songs’. There have been many songs over the years written with a theme of riding the rails, leaving someone at the station, or leaving on a midnight train. Examples include Peace Train, Crazy Train, Train in Vain, Love Train, Last Train to Clarksville, Long Train Running, C’mon Ride the Train, and Train, Train. When I was just a ‘wee Nee’ I would dream about riding through the country. We could hear the train whistle as the steel horse rattled down the line through Twin Bluffs headed to Richland Center. My dad would tell the story of his experiences of riding from Lone Rock all the way to Washinton D.C. to visit his sister (my aunt) back in the early 1950’s. That mode of transportation is not as common, but the songs and memories remain. We will play a few of those tunes on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app.

I hope you will join for this week’s edition of Those Were the Days featuring all of you favorites from the fifties through the early nineties. Song dedications, trivia, and overall fun await your visit on Saturday night between six and midnight.
