There are only a few weeks before the Nov. 5 election and I’m asking for a favor.
Remember that all political polls are not created equal. There are no requirements to start a polling firm or any specific licensing. Reputable polling companies have been in business for years as opposed to “Stan and Dan’s Integrity Polling America,” which just popped up last week and then got picked up by some podcaster with tons of clicks but zero expertise.
There’s so much white noise. Background distractions. Squirrels. (Watch the movie “Up.” You’ll love it. If you don’t, please share your argument and email me at janesays@civicmedia.us)
This isn’t the time to despair or stop swimming at lap 10 of a 500-meter freestyle intramural meet as a high school freshman and consider sinking to the bottom of the pool because it might be more comfortable. I say this from experience.
Here’s the favor.
Share what you know with family and friends and neighbors. The consequences of the Constitutional amendment on the Nov. 5 ballot and the right to vote in Wisconsin, Trump tariffs and who actually pays for them and the fact that women are suffering and dying because of sending abortion back to the states. (Trump says it’s “a beautiful thing.”)
Now is the time to focus, stay positive and continue breathing and moving through the water no matter the outcome of the race.
Yes, I came in last, but I survived because of friends and teammates who cheered me on and encouraged me and gave me hope.
Hope is stronger than fear and despair.
We can do this.
