RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- The Ripon Common Council held its reorganization meeting Tuesday night swearing in Mayor Ted Grant to a fourth term, as well as alderpersons Ellen Sorensen, Jonathan Gatzke, Steve Riemer, and new alderperson Luke Dretske.
Alderman Mark Denkert was elected council president receiving 5 votes to Alderman John Splitt’s 3 votes.
Mayor Ted Grant gave a brief address saying during his six years in office the city has made “meaningful progress.” He says that progress has included improving infrastructure, replacing water and sewer infrastructure, improving parks, and constructing a new Senior Activities Center and public works and water utilities facility.
But Grant says that is only the beginning. He noted for decades necessary maintenance was deferred. He says the result of that are higher expenses, inflation and the need for full reconstruction instead of routine upkeep.
He says the city needs to continue to invest in improvements, provide new housing, and attract new business.
