RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- History is being made in Green Lake as a long-awaited vision for the Thrasher Opera House officially breaks ground.

Local officials and community members gathered Thursday for the ceremonial start of a $3 million project. The work focuses on redesigning the gallery space directly adjacent to the historic 1910 structure.
Brian Blatz, project manager with Capelle Bros. and Diedrich Construction, says this expansion is about more than just square footage. He says the renovation provides the Opera House with new and additional support spaces that is long deserved. That will include an enlarged lobby, accessible restooms, a new bar, and gift shop.
For current Executive Director Rachael Avery, the ceremony was a moment of reflection and gratitude. She said, “Today is totally about gratitude in so many ways.” The project is being funded entirely through private donations a feat Avery says is a direct reflection of the community’s investment in the arts.

The project also brings back a familiar face. Roby Irvin, the restorationist who led the original efforts to save the opera house years ago, is serving as the renovation consultant. He says while the original building holds history, this new space is about the future.
Crews got a head start on the work this past Monday. The project is slated for completion in the Spring of 2027. You can track the progress or donate to the cause at Thrasher-Opera-House-dot-com.
