Local students participate in Skills USA Wisconsin State Leadership and Skills Conference

The 53rd Annual Skills USA Wisconsin State Leadership and Skills Conference was held last week (April 7 and 8) in Madison. Awards were presented during closing ceremonies held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Area students who placed in the top three of the categories they competed in were:

Tyler Sasse and Alex Williams of Platteville High School won gold for the Commercial Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) Drones team competition. They will be advancing on to the 2026 National Skills USA Championships, June 1 through June 5, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Area students who won silver were Tatum McCoy of Richland Center for Baking & Pastry Arts – High School and Anniken Jacobson of River Valley for 3D Printing and Design – Middle School.  

The only bronze winner from the area was Kim Cooke from Richland Center for Baking & Pastry Arts – High School. 

The annual event featured more than 1,750 middle, high school, and college/post-secondary students participating in 65 skilled and technical trades competitions.

Adam Hess has been involved in radio broadcasting since 1990, with many of those years spent on the air at WRCO FM in Richland Center. Currently, Adam hosts the Weekend Wake-up and Prime Mover Saturdays on WRCO FM, jumps in and helps out with news duties, handles Social Media duties for WRCO and WRCE, and is the Director of Technology at a Southwest Wisconsin School District.
