Local high school teams start the season strong

Local High School teams finding success. Brewers drop first series of the season. Badgers in Frozen Four. Outdoors seasons renew.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – Local high school spring sports teams are having strong starts to the season as the Assumption Baseball team and Wisconsin Rapids Girls Soccer teams are undefeated.

Assumption Baseball earned a no-hit victory over Abbotsford/Colby by a 12-0 decision in five innings.

Ron Bord got the complete-game no-hit victory. He struck out 11 and walked two to held the Royals move to 2-0.

The Raiders earned a 3-1 victory over Tomah.

Brewers struggle in Bean-town

For the first time this season, the Milwaukee Brewers dropped a series to their opposition as they dropped two of three games to the Boston Red Sox.

Milwaukee still resides in a tie for first place in the National League Central Division with the Cincinnati Reds with a record of 8-4.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates have 7-5 records, while the Chicago Cubs sit at 6-6.

The Brewers are off on Thursday, April 9 before hosting the Washington Nationals over April 10-12.

Badgers to compete in frozen four

For the first time since 2010 the Wisconsin Men’s Hockey team will be competing in the semifinals of the National Tournament, commonly known as the “Frozen Four.”

The Badgers will take on North Dakota at 4:00p.m. on Thursday, April 9. The winner faces the victor of Michigan vs Denver University in a game played at approximately 7:30p.m..

New licenses needed for outdoor recreation

All annual outdoors licenses expired at midnight on April 1, 2026. They must now be renewed with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Licenses affected include, but are not limited to: Fishing License, Inland Trout Stamp, Great Lakes Salmon and Trout Stamp, small game, archery and firearm deer licenses, trapping, and spring turkey licenses.
