March Madness continues for college teams. Spring sports are underway. Major League Baseball opens the season.

Badgers continue March Madness

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – Big wins and upset losses greeted the Wisconsin Badgers Mens and Womens athletic teams in their end-of-the-year tournaments.

The Women’s teams have done well as the Women’s Hockey team won back-to-back NCAA Division I titles as they knocked off Ohio State 3-2, while the Women’s Basketball team has moved to the WBIT Quarterfinals where they will host No. 3 seeded Harvard at 6:30 p.m. at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Men’s Hockey has advanced to the NCAA Division I National Tournament and will take on Dartmouth in the Worcester Regional Semifinal at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26.

The Men’s Basketball team saw its season end in the opening round of the NCAA Division 1 Tournament when the No. 5-seed Badgers were edged by 12-seeded High Point by a score of 83-82.

It marked the earliest elimination from the tournament for the Badgers since 2024 when it lost to another 12-seeded team, James Madison.

Spring Sports begin

Less than a week removed from the conclusion of winter sports competitions, the spring sports season begins with Indoor Track.

Nekoosa competed at its’ first Indoor Track and Field Meet at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse on Saturday, March 21.

The Papermakers had five top-ten finishes on the Boys side of things to lead the day.

Major League Baseball opening day hits

America’s pass-time returns for the summer on Thursday, March 26 when the majority of Major League Baseball teams take to their respective home diamonds to begin the 2026-2027 season.

Locally, the Brewers open the season at home when they host the Chicago White Sox at 1:10 p.m.

The rest of the National League Central Division begins play as well with St. Louis hosting Tampa Bay, Chicago hosting Washington, Cincinnati hosting Boston, and Pittsburgh playing at the New York Mets.
