Baldwin, Wied announce $5M for new Green Bay fire headquarters
Bipartisan duo puts "people ahead of politics" to fund combined fire station and housing complex.
GREEN BAY, Wis. – (WGBW) In a rare show of bipartisan agreement, two Wisconsin lawmakers from opposite sides of the aisle came together in Green Bay Friday morning to prioritize community safety over political differences.
U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) and Rep. Tony Wied (R-8th District) held a joint news conference at a local fire station to announce $5 million in federal funding. The investment is earmarked for Green Bay’s new fire station and administration headquarters.

“It’s no secret that Congressman Wied and I don’t always agree on everything, but this kind of project is what happens when we put the people that we represent ahead of politics and we work together to get something done for the community.” – U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin
Baldwin emphasized that emergency response transcends party lines. “Our firefighters do not think about a political party when they are heading into harm’s way to the rescue, and backing our firefighters should never be a partisan issue either.”
Streamlining City Services
The new facility is designed to modernize the city’s emergency infrastructure by:
- Consolidating Operations: Combining resources from the now-closed Station 1 and the outdated Station 3.
- Centralizing Leadership: Housing the department’s administrative offices within the new complex.
- Public Housing: In a unique twist, the plans include integrated apartments that will be available for the public to rent.

Next Steps
City officials are currently finalizing project plans and funding arrangements. If the timeline holds, the city aims to break ground this summer.
