RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- Wednesday morning’s icy weather caught many motorists off guard, creating hazardous driving conditions throughout Fond du Lac County.

Sheriff’s officials say over the course of four hours deputies responded to 14 crashes and 9 vehicles that slid off the runway. Among the incidents were a jackknifed semi-truck on northbound I-41 at Main Street and an overturned straight truck in the median of southbound I-41 near U.S. Highway 151.

One crash involved a passenger vehicle that was unable to stop and struck a school bus carrying 22 occupants, including 18 students, 3 staff members, and the driver. Fortunately, that crash was minor and no significant injuries were reported.

Deputies also responded to multi-vehicle crash near U.S. Highway 45 and County Highway K. While a deputy was on scene investigating, another vehicle lost control and struck the patrol vehicle.

With additional winter weather expected through Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office is urging motorists to use extra caution on area roadways.
