WAUTOMA, Wis (WAUH)- Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputies Monday responded to U.S. Highway 10 for a report of a driver that was swerving in the roadway, had significant varying speeds, and almost struck a guard rail.
Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Deputies could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the 41-year-old driver and observed other signs of intoxication. He was arrested for OWI second offense, failure to install an ignition interlock device, and operating after revocation.
Due to his high level of intoxication, he was admitted to a hospital for medical care. A preliminary breath test showed the driver to have an alcohol concentration of .427. Due to his previous OWI arrest that is 21 times the legal limit he was allowed to drive at.
