A legal organization focused on defending democratic institutions is preparing to take on Project 2025 in Wisconsin. Democracy Forward is ramping up its use of the law as new or additional federal actions are expected to impact voting rights, environmental protections, and access to health care for residents in the state.

Skye Perryman is the president and CEO of Democracy Forward. She discusses the sharp increase in requests for legal intervention with Dr. Kristin Lyerly, host of the Dr. Kristin Lyerly Show, and explains how federal agencies and the courts consider the policies with direct consequences for states like Wisconsin.

“We are responding in real time to decisions that will shape people’s daily lives,” Perryman says. “Wisconsin is often at the center of these legal battles.”

Watch the entire discussion here:

Democracy Forward has been involved in lawsuits and legal advocacy related to election administration, reproductive health access, climate regulations, and protections for vulnerable communities. Several of those cases involve federal rulings or policies that directly impact residents, particularly in areas where state and federal authority overlap.

Perryman says the organization’s strategy combines courtroom action with public education. And it aims to clarify how federal decisions translate into local consequences.

“Our work is about accountability,” she explains. “When government actions stray from the law, we are ready to step in.”

Democracy Forward expects legal challenges involving Wisconsin to continue through the coming year as federal courts weigh cases with state and nation-wide implications.
