Wisconsin Lawmakers Introduce Right to Repair Bill for Farmers

MADISON, Wis. – (Civic Media) — Right to Repair legislation was introduced Thursday, aimed at supporting Wisconsin farmers.

The bill requires manufacturers to make repair documentation, data, parts, and tools available to owners and independent mechanics at fair costs, without compromising trade secrets. It specifically targets agricultural equipment and protects manufacturers from liability for repairs conducted.

The legislation was introduced by State Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) and Rep. Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon). “Wisconsin farmers deserve the right to repair their own equipment or do business with the mechanic of their choosing,” Pfaff said. He emphasized the legislation’s potential to support farmers facing rising costs, increase competition among service providers, and create local jobs.

The Wisconsin Farmers Union backs the proposal. President Darin Von Ruden stated, “We need to address the monopoly crisis in agriculture and promote fair and competitive markets”. ABATE of Wisconsin Inc. has also expressed support for the bill.

Right to Repair is already law in five other states.
