Former Glenwood City School District Superintendent Timothy Johnson entered a no contest plea to six felony charges this week.

The 53-year-old Johnson was accused of taking a total of $290,792 of funds from the school district during his time as superintendent. A forensic audit of the district’s finances found that Johnson had received $125,000 in educational stipends and over $75,000 in reimbursements for continuing education classes at Viterbo University that he never actually took.

He was also accused of mishandling nearly $350,000 for school district investments with a former district accountant. The forensic audit alleged the two had negligently placed the district funds into investments that did not comply with state statutes.

Johnson joined the Glenwood City School District as a principal in 2003, becoming superintendent in 2014. He left the district in 2023 to become the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District Human Resources Executive. He resigned from that position in January of 2024 after the theft charges were filed.

Following his resignation, the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District conducted an internal audit of their finances. That audit found no evidence of any inappropriate expenditures or misused funds.

Johnson was originally charged with 17 felonies relating to the theft in October of 2024. The case was set to go to trial in January, but on Tuesday he entered a no contest plea to six felony charges, three for uttering a forgery and three for misconduct in office by producing fraudulent records. He is currently scheduled to be sentenced in March.
