
Week 6 High School Football Roundup: Wausau West upsets SPASH, Wausau East returns to winning ways with win vs. Medford and DC Everest stays perfect in the WVC.
The weather would make most people think otherwise but the 2025 high school football regular season is now 2/3rds complete. It was a good week for the Wausau area schools as teams such as Wausau West, Wausau East, D.C. Everest, Marathon, and Mosinee were all victorious.
In the Wisconsin Valley Conference, Wausau West moves into second place by outlasting SPASH 28-21 at Thom Field on Saturday afternoon in a game broadcast on 98.9 WXCO. A 79 yard touchdown pass from Joe Graveen to Shea Jones with 2:00 left in the game proved to be the difference for West. SPASH would drive to the Warriors’ 15 in the final seconds but be stopped on downs. Jones caught four passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns while Teigan Rasmus was huge defensively with 9 tackles and 3 quarterback sacks as West improves to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the WVC. SPASH is now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the WVC despite a big day from QB Trent Breitbach. Breitbach ran 24 times for 182 yards and three TD’s while completing 17 of 28 passes for 172 yards.
D.C. Everest is still atop the WVC after winning at Eau Claire North 39-7 on Friday night. Corbin Enzenroth made it four straight 100 yard rushing games in conference with 133 yards on 18 carries and 3 touchdowns. Xavier Edwards caught 5 passes, including a touchdown, for Everest (4-2 overall and 4-0 WVC).
Also in the Valley, Marshfield rallied from a 13-0 first half deficit and beat Wisconsin Rapids 24-13. Haiden Carlson rushed for 124 yards and 2 TD’s as the Tigers improved to 2-4 and 2-1 in conference. Rapids drops to 0-5 and 0-3 in the league despite 105 yards passing and 2 touchdowns from Owen Richardson.
In the Great Northern Conference the Wausau East Lumberjacks earned their first conference win in emphatic fashion with a 31-8 win over Medford at Thom Field Friday night in a game broadcast on 98.9 WXCO. Iain Stahel ran for 163 yards on 19 carries with 2 touchdowns and sophomore QB Cam Rye hit on 6/11 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown in his first varsity start for East (2-4, 1-3 GNC). Medford ran the ball up and down the field but were stopped by East more than a half dozen times on fourth down. The Raiders (2-4, 2-2 GNC) ran for 326 yards as a team including 141 yards from Will Wojcik and 127 from Sawyer Elsner but could only score one touchdown.
There are no undefeated teams remaining in the GNC after Mosinee went to Tomahawk and defeated the Hatchets 21-14. Treve Stoffel had a big night throwing the football with 13 completions in 17 attempts for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mitchell Michlig was the top target with 4 catches for 116 yards and a TD for Mosinee (4-2 overall, 3-1 GNC). Rex Reilly rushed for 79 yards and had 8.5 tackles but Tomahawk falls to 5-1 and 3-1 in the GNC.
Merrill joins Mosinee and Tomahawk atop the GNC at 3-1 and are 4-2 overall after winning at Lakeland 34-14. After trailing 14-7 in the second quarter, the Bluejays would score the final 27 points of the game. Running back Kanin Jahnke ran the ball 19 times for 155 yards while QB Cole Rudie was 3 of 5 passing for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns and added 61 yards rushing and a TD. After starting the season 4-0, Lakeland has now lost two straight to fall to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the GNC.
Rhinelander is one of three teams at 2-2 in the GNC after beating Antigo 54-8.
In the CWC-Large Marathon makes it two wins in a row with a 50-27 win over Weyauwega-Fremont. A huge night for Raider QB True Thurs as he hit on 16 of 21 passes for 248 yards and 5 TD’s while adding 99 yards rushing on just five attempts and another touchdown. Also a monster night for WR Garrett Bracewell as the junior caught 11 passes for 205 yards and 5 TD’s. Marathon is now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the CWC-Large while W-F falls to 3-3 and 1-3 in the league.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood gets back on the winning track after beating Loyal/Greenwood 19-16 to snap a two game losing streak. Kaden Yaeger ran for 99 yards and a score for the Chargers (3-3, 2-2 CWC-Large). Loyal/Greenwood drops to 4-2 and 2-2 in the league.
Amherst and Stratford remain tied for first in the CWC-Large after wins this weekend. Amherst is now 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference after rolling past Spencer/Columbus 35-22 and Stratford is 4-0 in the league and 4-2 overall after beating Colby 57-0.
In the Marawood/CWC, Edgar continues to pace the league after shutting down Assumption 35-0. Tucker Streit threw for 66 yards and Maverick Butt ran for 57 more but it continues to be the defense that has led the Wildcats. Lucas Stahnke had 9.5 tackles for Edgar, who has allowed just 12 points total this season. Edgar is 4-0 in league and 6-0 overall while Assumption drops to 2-2 in the conference and 2-4 overall.
It was a wild one in Abbotsford Friday as Pittsville looked to pull off the upset, leading 36-28 heading into the 4th quarter. However, the Falcons scored 22 points in the final stanza to rally for a 50-42 win that extends their win streak to five and keeps them tied with Edgar at 4-0 in the conference. Despite the loss, it was an incredible night for Pittsville’s Dawson Luther. Luther ran for 389 yards on 29 attempts and five touchdowns. Abbotsford’s Chase Boller ran 10 times for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Auburndale is 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Marawood/CWC after winning at Pacelli 49-0. Nathan Van Wyhe had 11 carries for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Eagles. Pacelli falls to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
In 8-Player football, Newman Catholic received a forfeit win over Menominee Nation and will carry a 4-2 record into their Homecoming Game this Friday vs. Port Edwards (6:40 pm broadcast time on the Sports 2 Stream of wxco.fm and Civic Media app). Also Athens improves to 5-1 on the season after beating Chequamegon/Butternut/Mercer 50-20. Evin Passehl ran for 105 yards on just 8 carries and a touchdown for the Bluejays.
