This weekend on Those Were The Days

RICHALND CENTER, Wis (WRCO) – The music theme for our Those Were the Days music show this Saturday night will be songs about smiles, laughs, and having fun.

When I was researching the subject, I was amazed at how many songs about laughing were actually sad songs. The Guess Who song, Laughing, has somber lyrics, Time goes slowly, but carries on
And now the best years have come and gone
You took me by surprise, I didn’t realize that you were laughing…..to make sure that the show does not bring you down, we will also play some smile songs. Tunes like Make Me Smile-Chicago, Keep on Smiling-Wet Willie, Sara Smile-Hall & Oates, and Smile a Little Smile-Flying Machine. You can hear these songs and others during our Saturday night show.

Perhaps you can come up with an idea? Laughter and music are two of my favorite things from way back. My big goal was always to get my dad to laugh. He was a great audience for me. When he would react favorably to some of my shenanigans, my mother would often say, ‘Jim, now don’t get that kid going’. My dad was a great lover of music and radio. It was his love of those that greatly impacted my life.

When I started at WRCO, he would often comment on some goofy thing I said or did on the air. My mother was more critical as she was worried that I would get fired! I have been very lucky, and I have been employed since 1986 here in Richland Center. Unlike Dr. Johnny Fever on tv, who told the story of being fired before he arrived at WKRP for saying ‘booger’ on the air.

Make sure that you look for us Saturday night. We will be on the air after the Green and Gold postgame show. Those Were the Days will be on at least by 9 pm or potentially at 8 pm.

Fortunately, this is the last preseason game, and we will not have a conflict with the Pack until late December. I will take your requests, and you can play along with our hot trivia games on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and the Civic Media app. We might even make you laugh or smile.
